Liverpool Fc. The club with history.

But no present and future. The only history ammo your kids will have in 20 years is how your a mid table club.

''No present and no future'' lol

We won the last available cup and are in the final of the next available cup. Not bad eh?

What about your team? LOL

MR EM

Are you some sort of idiot? Even in 20 years time, we will have had the same history, plus an extra 20 years worth! History is everything that has already happened, and cannot be changed. And what a beautiful history it is! And once again - are you some kind of idiot? Nick.

At the present we are in a cup final and in the future we will win the Fa Cup

Isn't the cup final in the future.

Ignore the bitter Evertonians. Who knows might even be Rooney. I wish could've seen his reaction after the match though!

got myself now to write after all the excitement, everything was fantastic except for a couple of individual play which was not up to par, but let us not spoil the mood now, it is insiginificant.
We won that is all that counts long live the king !
KK should stay on he has made millions happy and that to me is enough! Finally carroll seems to be doing something, and suarez was very good as well I don't think we should sell him, but build on the team and not take players away that have his skill. My opinion previously was to sell him, but he has quitened down and is banging in the goals.
Can someone who starts the songs and makes the tunes for the kop sing next time Tina Turner's The best, because to me and all of us our king and pool are the best, and better than all the rest. Can someone please sing it in the next match and always when we score.
ed001 how were you feeling today? thankyou
hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - my throat is still really sore from the shouting and screaming and cheering etc. I forget I am not at the game sometimes! My neighbours think I am insane.}

I'm exactly the same I am constantly shouting and screaming things that is why I do prefer not to go to the game ssometimes and stay home to watch, I literally scream at the players as if they can hear me, but anyway that's what fans do. It's always worth it for my beloved liverpool!
hibsylfc

Haha, ed whereabouts you live mate? {Ed001's Note - unfortunately down south these days, not the same as when I used to be able to just walk to the match!}

I will give it to carrol this time. Good performance, work rate much better. But he really needs to find the target from downing's crosses. Downing probably has created the most number of unconverted chances this season.

Boss to see liverpool get the win today id rather win everton than manu u tbh i hate blue noses there so bitter beat them 3 times this season were just better simple as even with andy carroll on the pitch and henderson basically playing with 9 men on the pitch

..what?

controversy

Look unnamed poster, even i dont like carrol one bit, but he had a good game n got us in the final. Hendo never gets the credit he deserves. Workrate is second to none.

With Macca saying there was something more sinister about Commoli been sacked I'm wondering would it possibly be that Kenny will be moved to DOF and a new manager been lined up? just a thought. I think Kenny has done a great job in the cups and obviously needs to improve our league form big time but I'd like to see him given another season to improve the team more and see how it goes. Just my opinion but I think he deserves the chance after everything he has done for the club.

I might have missed you comment on this already but have you read this piece eds? And any thoughts?

http://tomkinstimes.com/2012/04/moneyball-statistics-and-damien-comolli/

Ultra red {Ed001's Note - yes, I was posting up the link yesterday, it is an excellent article, with some interesting theories. It does explain how the players were chosen, if it is correct, and also suggests Comolli was interfering.}

Good article.

Unfortunately whichever way you look at it whether through stats or watching with your own eye it all boils down to the same thing...missed chances!

dmedly

Well, this is a very interesting article to say the least. I'm a football coach myself at a Sunday league club an it's again, very interesting to see some of the tactics and theories used by big teams. It is intriguing to see what some of Damien Comolli's tactics were and this "money ball" theory is rather fascinating with some of the data the article produced.
I now see why Henderson, Downing and co. are picked most games instead of making the assumption that they are "needing time to be imbedded into the team" or "they put the effort into the match, such as tracking back and having great positional play to prevent the other team to attack us".
Also the article shows maybe why the likes of Henderson, Downing and Adam were bought, simply due to the fact that they crossed the ball into the box a high amount of times per game. If Andrew Beasley made a similar article for other teams in the league, it would be interesting to see if the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City used this money ball tactic with their players.
All in all, the article is a very good read! I appreciate you, Ultra red, as well as the editor for posting the link!

When your morning starts with a bacon sarnie and a bottle of Corona, shared and talking footy with your blue nose of a brother, you know it's gonna be a good day !
Top banter on the tube up to the match, and somebody pulled the emergency brake at Neasden station.
Lol, great days boys.
The Real KB
:-D

Nice one KB, extra special day. I went with my brother-in-law, my brother and 6 year old son (his Wembley debut). We'll never forget it, stayed in Denham last night then fresh for the 15 minute rail journey in this morning.
Knackered now, I've been home since 8pm but still buzzin, my little lad didn't give in til 10:30, too excited telling his family all about it.
Fair play to Everton who did well for 45 but we really took the game by the scruff in the 2nd half.
Night, night if there's anyone still awake!
A very happy ALB.

I would just like to highlight a point to IndianBuzzar, Ash, Davey90 and all the other Kenny-haters out there:
There was one man who changed the course of the Everton game. First half we were lacklustre, poor on the ball and looking odds on to concede a second goal. After half time the same team came out and looked like a hungry beast, battling and not giving Everton a second on the ball.
The team wasn't changed, the formation was the same but the mentality and the motivation of the team was 100% better. It was no Istanbul but I'd have loved to hear what Kenny had said to the players at half-time - whatever it was, it speaks volumes to me that Dalglish has not 'lost the dressing room' (as was suggested after the Newcastle game) and is currently the best manager to carry Liverpool FC forward.
We're going back to Wembley. Again.

cozinoz

If Kenny gets the nod for the improvement, should he not also get the nod for the terrible first half? The real reason things changed was the wing swap. And having skill on the bench (Bellars).

I'm not a 'Kenny hater' as you put it. I just don't think he's the right man to take us forward. Cup runs are all well and good, but a man far greater than you or I once said 'the league is your bread and butter'. And being closer to the Wolves than Utd is just not good enough. Had any other manager performed like this, would there still be fans who think he deserves more time? I think not.

It was a great win, no question, but don't let it cloud over everything else.

Ash

I'd take an fa cup and leageu cup double for the season i just think people got carried away with last years form i think reallistically it will take 2 more years before we are back up in the top 4 just we must support our coach. we are liverpool supporters not plastic fans.

Ash

We are currently 23-points ahead of Wolves and in 2009 (Benitez's last season) we finished 25-points ahead of them so by using your argument that Dalglish is not the right man to lead us forward, do you accept that Benitez should not return and you will stop raising his name every time talk of a new manager comes up?

JRG

It doesnt cloud anything....but it does suggest that Dalglish has the ability to win games. At the moment we're succeeding against teams who have to attack (ie in the cups) but we find it trickier against the bus-parkers and the teams who are happy with a 0-0.
A goal-poacher and a player capable of unlocking defences needs to be bought in the summer to continue Dalglish's good work. Replacing him with another manager would be self-defeating imo and set us back a year.

cozinoz

Look cozinoz, im 20 years old. I was not even born when kenny led our club to glory. So u can excuse me if im not sentimental on that front. 'Kenny hater' is a bit strong, but i continue to believe that the team wud do better with another manager, someone young like laudrup or AVB. We need a manager for the next 20-30 years. I want us to kick the mancheaters a** for many years to come, n i dont think kenny is the man for the job. League form is more important for the club right now since we need the money and champs league football to attract better players.
Indian Buzzer

Happy to go back to wembley though, AGAIN. mancs cant say that even once this season. I hope the times r changing.
Indian Buzzer

I don't remember Benitez spending £110 million in one year, JRG? Hardly the same considering Benitez turned in a net profit in his last 3 seasons! And it is not about how close we are to Wolves, it is how near we are to the top and to the bottom. Stop trying to warp facts!

Ash {Ed001's Note - he did no such thing as turn in a net profit, if you are going to talk net, then you need to include paying off contracts, signing on fees and all the other costs associated with a transfer deal. He broke even but there was no profit made on transfers.}

Ash - you were the one who used Wolves as a comparison so how am I warping the facts?

And the reason we needed to spend £110m this season was because of the terrible state Benitez left the squad in after 5-years of building. So after 5-years and spending around £230m on transfers he was closer to the bottom of the league than the top yet you recommend him for the managers job?

JRG

If you say so Ed. Either way, comparing the spending of Benitez in his last 3 years to what Kenny has had is a nonsense. Kenny has had the luxury of fantastic owners who are not afraid to spend. Rafa did not. Where would we be now had Rafa had these owners a few years back. A team with Villa, Silva, maybe Alves and a host of other quality names? Comparing the two is completely unfair.

Ash

Ash {Ed001's Note - nothing to do with the owners, Rafa was backed by them, it was Rick Parry that messed up the deals early days. It was Rafa's overspending on wages that put the club in such trouble that the Villa and Silva deals had to be pulled out of. You really need to grow out of this infatuation you have, teenage crushes are not good for unbiased examination of someone's pros and cons.}

A bit like the teenage crush you have of Kenny eh Ed? Even though he has spent more money in a 12 month period than any other manager in the history of Liverpool and lead us to a run that is the worst in the league in almost 60 years? Do they still need time to gel?

However you look at it, Rafa did a lot of good for the club with an absolutely shocking heirarchy above him. Were you bored with Champions League finals, being feared all throughout Europe and scoring over 100 goals in a season or something. He wasn't perfect but the abuse you and other posters give him is utterly ridiculous. A teenage crush? Do leave off!.

Ash {Ed001's Note - you really are a fool. I have no crush on Dalglish, you are just too wrapped up in your infatuation of Rafa to notice. Yes I was bored under Rafa, the football was terrible. You need to leave off, you really have no idea, you don't do anything but whine like a teenage girl asked to clean her room.}

The thing is Ash no-one is giving Rafa any abuse. All I have said is that he isn't the man to win us the Premier League. He had 5-years at the club and at the end of his reign we finished 7th with a massive squad desperately short on quality.

You ate far more critical of Kenny than anyone is of Rafa - what's the matter are you bored of getting to domestic cup finals and winning trophies or did you prefer getting knocked out by the likes of Burnley? And if your comeback is Champions League games don't forget who failed to qualify in his last season.

JRG

Maybe I was 'whining' Ed, as I saw this situation coming a mile off. But you would never give any credit to someone who was right all along would you Ed?

Ash {Ed001's Note - you were right about what? That you would continue to whine for your lost love? Give it a rest, you have never been right about anything. All you do is slag off players and the manager, you never show any balance just bitch.}

Yes of course Ed, I was right about nothing. Just like Carroll has been a roaring success, and Adam, and the invaluable assists Downing has provided and how Henderson has been superb, all fully justifying the £78m (plus VAT, agent fees and signing on fees). Was I not right about that? Comolli lost his job in part due to the players signed and fees spent.

But give yourself some credit too Ed, you never wanted Carroll either. In fact, you were probably far more against him than I was. But just because it was Kenny who signed him, you dare not question him!

Any other manager Ed other than Kenny would not have been afforded the same time and surely you must see that. You simply cannot spend such a fortune and come up so short and get away with it. And who knows, in the end, maybe Kenny won't.

Ash {Ed001's Note - you are talking crap, it is nothing to do with who is in charge, you are such a bitter little brat. You have no idea, you really don't. You are so infatuated with Rafa that you slag off anything to do with the club since he has left. You assume that anyone who doesn't is purely doing it because they have the same infatuation you have but with Kenny instead of Rafa. It is pathetic.}

Your sweeping generalising of anything I have said is pathetic. I merely think that Rafa would be a better choice than Kenny. Your petulant insults are quite frankly pathetic also.

You simply cannot hear anything that is against Kenny which shows how blinkered you are. I have admitted Rafa isn't perfect, but you seem to take much joy in allowing him to be slagged off on here. I never here you defend him or his reign, ever! Why is that, you jump to the defence of Kenny all the time and say that I can't be balanced?

There are only two managers I believe we could attract that are good enough right now. One is Rafa, the other is Bielsa. I would be happy with either(which I have said before by the way.)

Anyway, no doubt you'll have a non-football related insult to throw at me like a kid in the playground, but hey, no offence.

Ash {Ed001's Note - you constantly lie about what I have said. That is the issue I have with you. I have no issue with people criticising Dalglish, what I have an issue with is no marks showing him a lack of respect. So again you are completely and utterly wrong, as always. Now give it a rest lad.}

Fair enough, although I have never slagged Kenny off as some have, I just don't think he's the man for us. Your opinion of me is very near my opinion of you so we'll have to agree to disagree.

Ash {Ed001's Note - that's fine with me.}

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly has tweeted: "Big Andy Carroll has used Jordan Henderson's hair gel for the last two games and scored both wining goals. Fact.

Jordan's hair gel = 2 late headed goals. Andy, rub it on your boots as well lad.

Nobody's going to moan when there's nothing to moan about are they? No offence but given the sh**e Liverpool have dished up in a few games this season people have had a right to be pi**ed off so lets all enjoy it when it's gone well.

i think its nailed on for a liverpool v chelski final,and maybe with us having no chance of the top four,the chavs having barca and flogging themselves for the top four,we could be fresher for the final,what is your opionion eds? {Ed001's Note - I don't know Spurs are always a team that can raise themselves for a cup game, even when they are having a bad run.}

Chelsea are an average team riding their luck at the moment. LFC v Spurs final.

Maybe, Chelsea and the distractions of the Champs League is a better option, its common knowledge were their priorities (or at least Raoman's) are!.
Honestly, I don't fancy a Spurs final.
Food for thought.

I can't believe there don't appear to be any highlights anywhere tonight or am I missing something? {Ed001's Note - they were on ITV earlier, probably more prior to the Chelsea-Spurs game.}

Very unfair for people involved in football all day. Typical of the disregard ITV has for football supporters.

Well done today to kenny and all the boys, one game away from doing the double..

14 Apr 2012 21:26:56
Regarding Carrol. One of my problems, was I never saw much of him when he was at Newcastle. When I heard tottenham had a bid of 30 million rejected, I found it funny on all sorts of levels. When I heard our 35 million was accepted, I almost crapped myself! Anyway, when he first played for us, I have to say, I couldn't see why on earth we paid that much money for him. Couldn't stay on his feet, had some woeful touches, was overweight and apparently had an attitude problem. He didn't even seem that good at heading the ball. Although I always backed him, and willed him to do well, at times I felt we had been robbed blind by Newcastle.

In the last month, I've seen a new Andy Carrol. He's stronger, fitter, his touch has improved 10 fold, his awareness is better, and he seems to be growing and improving in every aspect of his game.

What if, in a years time, we have someone with the strength of Shearer, the strike of Gerrard of old, and the touch of Ibrahimovic? As I said, I didn't watch him much at Newcastle, so I don't know if this is improvement, or just a return to form. Would appreciate other posters views on it. I'm certainly alot more optimistic about how big his potential is - and maybe Kenny was just telling the truth when he said he was one for the future. Nick.

He could be a superstar should he work for it and should he be managed well. Looking forward to the future!

Yea mate totally agree and as for your question he was awsome for newcastle one goal stays in my mind his header last season against arsenal also his ground game like dragging defenders outta position has also improve go look at videos from last season also around march of 2011 to now you will see how much he has progressed

Carroll's got bundles of potential, but his attitude has been rubbish since he came to LFC. He needs to work out what he wants from football, if he wants to make a name for himself and finish with league titles, european titles and international honours, then he has to get his head down and put the graft in.
If he wants to p*** his career up the wall then he doesn't need any help with that.
The Quaggar

So now he is a 'hero', be honest think about what you are saying.
He is very average, need I say more.
How easily some people are swayed!.

Sorry eds its virgin bloody medias fault lol anyway mate i as i was sayin basically i want your opinion on what you want to see happen in the summer ie. players/management thanks mate {Ed001's Note - what I want is to keep the changes down to as little as possible. 'the irony of it!'

suarez & carroll both score to put us in another cup final.

comolli's 1st and 2nd signings.

it's a funny old game aye, don't suppose he(comolli) sees the funny side though. was thinking earlier that club's have only seen any results from his work once he left. maybe it's our time....

happen to totally miss the game today so cannot comment but all i do know now the dust has settled is we win much more often with andy carroll in the team.
and that my bickering lfc fanatics is all i truly care about!

and on the subject of big AC, brad jones said after the game that the big man deserved the goal for all the extra training ground work he's been putting in after training. great to here how much he wants to succeed at lfc despite the press rumours. i remember a certain lucas putting himself through the extra work and has reaped the rewards as well.

A quote from King Kenny today epitomises everything this guy is all about, if he can instill this throughout the club, as before then the future will look bright

Winning gives you a good feeling,' he said.
'If you can't enjoy winning, you might as well put the lid on the box because it is time up.
'Whether it helps or hinders lies with the individual.

'You can get a taste of it, think it is great for us to go forward and try and win something else because you enjoyed that so much or you can go complacent and say that is great we have won a trophy, that is all I wanted to do.
'The most important thing is that the players want to be more successful

A couple of disadvanteges today.
On the motorway services back north all the pies had been eaten by the Everton supporters before we got there. Remember they left the stadium a good 20 minutes before us and had a head start.
Also, all the toilets were clogged up with losing betting slips.

I won't get on your case, mate. Just wanted to say that I was afraid of this game but in the end was surprised at how little Everton did today. I thought Jones would have a test today and it was quiet the opposite. Fair play to Everton who are far better than what they showed today.

Canadian Fan

Well, it takes a man to step up and admit his mistakes, so credit for that, im not the type to give out stick anyway or gloat about things i just appreciate an honest football fan when i see one.

Maybe next time you need to learn some class, but respect for having the guts to not run and hide like most do.

You deserve respect for taking the loss like a man, now lets remember this is just a game, 96 people died at hillsbourough and with the awful memories of that day being relived tomorrow that should put this all in prespective, ynwa, and thats true for evertonians as well we are all one in the city of liverpool tomorrow. Justice for the 96

Liverpool vs Everton Review:

Jones - To be honest he had very little to do except pick the ball out of his net (which he was entirely blameless for), difficult to rate a player who had such a small impact.

Agger - never looked comfortable at left-back. Distribution was poor through out although did improve as the game went on. As cukpable as Carragher for Evertons goal as he didn't want to clear the ball with his weaker foot.

Carragher - poor game. Looks slower and more inept at reading the game with each match that goes by, very unimpressed. Was at fault as equally as Agger as he did not want to use his weaker foot - when he did it lead directly to the goal.

Skrtel - was solid, committed and by far the best defensive prescence we had on the pitch. Had a good game.

Johnson - had a few forrays going forward without axctually producing much. Never did anything calamitous at the back but by the same virtue never did anything really good either.

Henderson - I admit I like Henderson and hope he is given time. However, I hope he is not given time in the right midfield spot as he is appalling when he plays there. Was out of position countless times today, lost too many 50/50 balls and failed to contribute meaningfully - he should either play in the centre of the park of be on the bench. He was substituted today and rightly so.

Spearing - in my opinion nowhere near good enough. Had an early chance that he blazed over the bar that should of at least tested the goalkeeper. Seems to be dominated a lot of the time, has poor distribution and is not really aware positionally.

Gerrard - was a very patchy game for Gerrard, didn't do a lot in the first half. Distribution improved slightly in the second half and seemed to drive the team on a little more. Won the freekick that lead to the winning goal but despite that a sub-par performance.

Downing - had 2 decent moments early in the second half but not a lot else. Drifts out of games too easily and too frequently - I don't think he is our answer to the problem on the wings although, in his defence today, did seem to of been asked to play deeper on the wing a susual (possibly on account of Agger playing as a left back?).

Suarez - ran tirelessly from start to finish. Was subdued and handled well by the Everton team in the first half but became more of a menace and caused more problems in the second. Pressured Distin into making a mistake that leasd to a crisp finish. Set up countless Liverpool attacks and was probably our man of the match.

Carroll - was queit (who wasn't?) in the first half and although was willing seemed unable to make much in terms of a contribution with the exception of his early lay off to Spearing. Much improved in the second half and despite missing a gilt edged chance + two other good chances kept on going an working hard for the team - the winning goal was just desserts for a good overall performance, I hope he starts more games as he is slowly improving.

Bellamy - caused problems as soon as he came on. Bags of energy, full of running, pressured Everton and thus kept them pegged back in there half. Delivered a fine free kick in for the winner.

Maxi - didn't do much and in fairness didn't have a lot of time to make a meaningful contribution. Should of scored to make it 3-1 when he hit the post from yards out. Didn't make much of an impact.

Dalglish - whilst we got the result we wanted there are still more questions than answers over Dalglishs stewardship over the club. The team were a mess in the first half and, before Distins mistake, seemed unlikely to equalise. Tactically Dalglish is difficult to fathom and does sometimes leave certain players really looking out of there depth. Agger at left back was not successful and neither was henderson at right midfield (which has not been for the entire season). Not sure if Dalglish will be given any more time after summer but personally (and my views are well documented) I feel we need to move on from Dalglish and find a better manager to take the club forward. Massive respect to the man he is Liverpool through and through, a legend now and forever - unfortunately I think his time might be up. Personally I thought Everton were poor, unthreatening and lacked ambition and that Liverpools own weaknesses made them look better than what they were today - we deserved to win, but not by virtue of a great performance.

Conclusions - still a lot of issues to address at Anfield not least the personnel. Dalglish still has a cloud over him and remains to be seen as to how the owners will proceed. Some players don't look good enough and some simply don't seem to have the heart - hopefully summer transfer business will go someway into ammending that. On a personal note I thought the minute's silence was impeccably observed and was a credit to everyone associated with Everton.

Good post mate.
enjoyed the read.
seems fair.

LTP the red

The team won, everyone of our players had a part to play, the TEAM won a cup and in the final of another and may bring the second one home...lets leave out all these individual grilling's of our players leave that to the tabloids yeah?...

Apart from agreeing with you about the 1 minute silence, why such negativity about the way liverpool played, we won, we won for the 96 victims and for brad jones late son, stop putting the team down and remember what matters in life slagging your winning team shouldnt be one of them. aH

Why slag Jamie of when you don't need to!

Lyndon

It drives me crazy that Spearing doesn't get the credit he deserves. He had a good game today...he usually always does. He does the same job as Mascherano did, and pretty much at the same standard, but yet he doesn't get any of the credit. No, Spearing isn't the captain of Argentina, but he is one best success' of the youth system for quite some time and he should be celebrated for that.

-Shane.

I think your summary is absolutely spot on. RedTurk

To the unnamed poster: it is not about grilling players it is about giving an honest assessment of there performance without getting caught up in the fact that we won. Carroll played well today and I said that. When he has played porrly before I have said that too. Fans opinions seem to change like the ind based on results; I am trying to maintain a sense of realism.

To AH - As I say about it isn't negativity it is realism and to be honest I am not sure what my post has got to do with the 96 who died or Brad Jones' son - both incidents are tragic and all those affected have my deepest sympathies and I do hope that one day soon the families of all those affected will finally get the justice they deserve.... however, my post was relating entirely to the performance and nothing else. Yes we won but no we didn't play well - I am as happy as any other fan we are in the final but I am not going to sugar coat it and start saying everyone is amazing - I thought my assessment was accurate - if you disagree you are entitled to your opinion but you cannot criticize my opinion because it wasn't overhwelmingly positive - our performance wasn't overwhelmingly positive.

To Shane - he's like Mascherano!? Your having a laugh he never puts in the amount of tackles Masch did or breaks up play like he did or bosses midfield like he did or even distributes the ball as well. The reason why people say he is good is because he is a scouser and a product of the academy... everyone is dreaming of the next big talent i.e. gerrard/Fowler/Carragher ilk - sorry lad but Spearing is a long way off and is probably behind charlie Adam in the pecking order (which is horrific given how bad Adam has been) - if he is the future of Liverpool then we have a lot to worry about.

Just got back from the game, and I would like to share my congratulations with the team and my fellow supporters. We completely deserved our win, after a excellent second half.I thought Suarez was unplayable at times,Martin Skrtle was a monster at the back and Carroll worked really hard.It was a great team performance.I think a few words would have been said at half time, because we played with a lot of passion after the break.I have said all season, that we haven't played that badly, and especially at home,we should of got more points from our premiership games.Anyway let's stay behind Kenny and the boys, and hopefully we can cheer another trophy come May.

Hi Reds, Eds........

Call me crazy but I have an urge that Barcelona will NOT beat Levante tonight! I get these urges a few times a season and are usually right lol. So if anyone feels like a punt, there's a tip for you (not sure what the odds are though, sorry)

I will be back on here later to eat humble pie or to find out if someone got lucky off my tip

Otherwise, I hope you are all well and merry this evening fellow reds and eds

K. Bennett

Hey I'll chuck a fiver on it I'm in a good mood lol but if your wrong!...........ed002 gets it!

Square tomato {Ed001's Note - why does Ed002 get the fiver if the tip's wrong?}

Wow. What guts you have, you think a team fighting for a champions league spot and who led la liga for the first quarter of the season may have a chance of getting something at their home ground?! You maverick! (I'm not saying Barcelona will slip up tonight, but if they do it certainly wouldn't be a "crazy" prospect.)

Becuase if it comes in, you get the winnings ed001 ofcourse! ;)

Square tomato {Ed001's Note - good plan, I like that one!}

Barca just conceded as I was reading this post. 1-0 Levante.

Looks like a good punt thus far

Oops perhaps not

Lucky I didn't bet, I think Messi must of read your thread

HAHA {Ed001's Note - my daughter turned over at 1-0 with me thinking I was getting the winnings! Now I find Ed002 is the lucky one *sighs*}

Would you like it with Ice-cream or fresh cream haha....close shout though I thought Levante would snatch at least a draw

GuvTOB

Well..... As promised I am here to eat humble pie! The tip looked good for a bit but came unstuck in the end!

My prediction/urge was wrong....I have no problem admitting that

Sorry to Square Tomato and anyone else who took the tip. For what its worth, I think Man U and Villa will draw tomorrow (but what do I I know eh lol)

Goodnight all

just watching the game today and cant understand how spearing was on the pitch for the whole game so so bad aside from that we played very well never gave up but spearing should not be on the first 11 {Ed001's Note - because he did the work you don't see on a camera. Just like Makalele did and no one at Madrid could understand why he was on the pitch, until they lost him.}

You didn't watch the game very closely then, i was at the game and Spearing was one of the better players today. Hardly put a foot wrong in the role he was given.
He done alot of the work you would have expected from our skipper.

Now ed you mean to tell me you think he is the future of liverpool {Ed001's Note - nope, but he did play well today.}

Spearing had a good game. How many times did Everton trouble our defence?

I've had my say on Jay - but he never, ever, lets LFC down.

Lee YNWA

Sorry editor but comparing Spearing with Makelele is a joke. Spearings positioning was questionable, his distribution poor and never seems to make much of an impact on the game. I suspect the only reason he is defended is because he is a scouser who came up through the academy - not because he is good enough.

SMc {Ed001's Note - hardly a joke, he had a good game today, nothing to do with where he came from. His distribution was very good, perhaps you might want to watch what he does rather than just slate him because you don't like him.}

Agree with ed here, the spearings and lucases protect the back four break up attacks and do the dog work so others can play with freedom

I am sorry Ed,but please don't compare Spearing with Makele.I have seen Jay live in every game he's played this season and I for one don't miss his huffing and puffing,when he's not on the pitch.Please stop hyping him up Ed.He did a job for the team today,but to compare him with Makele is way over the top. {Ed001's Note - give it a rest, I never said he was Makalele. Hardly hyping him up to say he had a good game just because you couldn't see it.}

Spot-on Ed although I believe Spearing needs to learn his limitations. Players like Makalele knew how to win the ball back then pass it to the better passers in the team to create something.

Spearing tries to play pin-point through balls or 50-yard cross-field passes that he is not capable of. He needs to get the ball and pass it quickly and simply. I love his eagerness, work-rate and tough tackling and think he will be a great understudy to Lucas next season.

JRG

So your trying to say spearing and makalele are alike a million miles apart ed your having a laugh {Ed001's Note - can you not read? I said that he does things that don't get seen. Then I said no one saw what Makalele did either. That is not saying he is Makalele. Why can no one understand simple English??}

Well said Edd

Now your compare him to lucas o my god lol

Ed u cant compare spearing to makalele!
;)
jg {Ed001's Note - hahaha. I am now going to cry like I have just realised I really do remember Dr Snuggles despite what I told Ed007.}

Spearing is a spot on player!!
You'd probably more at ease if we paid someone else 120,000 a week to do the same job if it was a "BIG" name.
Don't pick your Chickens!!

Lyndon

Lyndon

He does the same job as Mascherano did, and to pretty much the same standard. He's an easy target but we always look more secure with Jay than Adam or Henderson in that position because Spearing knows what he can and can't do...and he does the stuff he can do very well. He doesn't try hit Hollywood balls, and he'll probably never score for Liverpool, but he will break up play and set the tempo with the right passes every time he's called upon.

-Shane.

Whats the likelihood of Maxi signing a new contract? I want him to stay! And dont understand why Kenny leaves him out! If he played more games we would prob have more points! Most underated player in our squad!

Charlee

I don't think he is consistent enough to do it week in, week out.
Good in small doses though isn't he.
I remember being very excited when he joined, it's a shame it never really worked out as it should because the quality is there.

Ed...you keep saying there's still a chance Luis Suarez could leave Anfield. Now I understand that Suarez/Evra issue was mishandled and Luis apologised for not shaking his hand with Evra, bit surely it'll be extremely difficult to find a replacement of his quality especially with no Champions League. Also, with Carroll and Suarez now beginning to form some sort of partnership, it simply doesn't make sense to destabilise the team yet again. What's your take on this Ed. Thanks {Ed001's Note - same as I have always said, he will only be sold if a bid matches our valuation and a replacement can be brought in. He is a bit like Bumblebee, a huge part of things but he is not irreplaceable. We just have to find out own Optimus Prime to replace him with.}

For our Player of the Season:

(for those who haven't seen this)

•Fool me once, shame on you. Fool Martin Skrtel once and he will punch you in the face.
•The opening scene of the movie "Saving Private Ryan" is loosely based on games of dodgeball Martin Skrtel played in year 2.
•Martin Skrtel once shot down a German fighter plane with his finger, by yelling, "Bang!"
•Martin Skrtel once bet NASA he could survive re-entry without a spacesuit. On July 19th, 1999, a naked Martin Skrtel re-entered the earth's atmosphere, streaking over 4 different countries and reaching a temperature of 3000 degrees. An embarrassed NASA publically claimed it was a meteor, and still owes him a beer.
•If you spell Martin Skrtel in Scrabble, you win. Forever.
•Martin Skrtel doesn't churn butter. He kicks the cows and the butter comes straight out.
•Martin Skrtel doesn't wash his clothes, he disembowels them.
•A Handicapped parking sign does not signify that this spot is for handicapped people. It is actually in fact a warning, that the spot belongs to Martin Skrtel and that you will be handicapped if you park there.
•Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based on a true story: Martin Skrtel once swallowed a turtle whole, and when he pooped it out, the turtle was six feet tall and had learned karate.
•Martin Skrtel is not hung like a horse… horses are hung like Martin Skrtel.
•Faster than a speeding bullet … more powerful than a locomotive … able to leap tall buildings in a single bound… yes, these are some of Martin Skrtel's warm-up exercises.
•When Martin Skrtel goes to donate blood, he declines the syringe, and instead requests a hand gun and a bucket.
•Martin Skrtel invented Kentucky Fried Chicken's famous secret recipe, with eleven herbs and spices. But nobody ever mentions the twelfth ingredient: Fear
•Martin Skrtel can win a game of Connect Four in only three moves.
•There is no theory of evolution, just a list of creatures Martin Skrtel allows to live.
•Martin Skrtel once ate three 72 oz. steaks in one hour. He spent the first 45 minutes having sex with his waitress.
•Martin Skrtel is the only man to ever defeat a brick wall in a game of tennis.
•Martin Skrtel has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 2003 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoloy card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game UNO.
•Archeologists unearthed an old english dictionary dating back to the year 1236. It defined "victim" as "one who has encountered Martin Skrtel"
•Martin Skrtel ordered a Big Mac at Burger King, and got one.
•Martin Skrte and Mr. T walked into a bar. The bar was instantly destroyed, as that level of awesome cannot be contained in one building.
•Martin Skrtel once ate an entire bottle of sleeping pills. They made him blink.
•Martin Skrtel can touch MC Hammer.

Now Blue 24-7 said he loved this site and talked all week.....anyone heard a squeak?

On the game, I do not mean to be disrespectful but Everton bottled it second half. They had huge foothold in game but simply froze second half and offered little. Jelavic was so isolated.

Saying that there were some positive performances, notably Carroll who never gave up. Suarez woke upsecond half. Bellamy and Maxi link up very well.

Dirks Engine Room
{Ed001's Note - to be fair Blues Clues was on earlier to say well done to Liverpool and the better team won.}

I saw the comment he left and he was very humble, he said we deserved it and even said he wanted us to win the cup. So he has been a decent loser.

Ollieston

Totally agree we did bottle it!!
Dalglish substitutions were spot on!
So we brought on Coleman & Anichebe for gods sake :(

He spouted his gob off all week so his comment didn't wash with me. He was a mouthy smart arse who was so cock sure of himself and his bottling bitters and if he's got half a brain he'll learn to shut it

Was watching it in Standard in West Derby at atmosphere was fantastic and the majority of Blues were frustrated that Moyes let them sit. Carrolls early miss was a warning.

To be fair I think, and not for the first time Liverpool has shown itself in its true colours today. Excellent travelling support, excellent atmosphere in ground, and then there's the National.

Appreciate the Blues that have commented positively and if the first alf performance had continued then very few reds could have complained.

Very proud Merseysider today.

Hi all
I just want to say I was shocked & disgusted with a few people at the pub I watched the game today. I never knew how many sick people leaveed in Ashford Kent ( and yes they were English & in their 30s) this woman said "so what 96 scousers died, there's plenty more where they came from" I can't repeat the rest, just wished she was a guy or I was a
female because s**t would have gone down big time. I told a guy behind the bar but nothing happened.

Theba300

Relax mate Ashford, Kent is known for it's low life

Ashford kent is that the tarts name or what ? {Ed001's Note - no, it was Ash Ford is a kent, I believe.}

I can picture the ugly fat cow now. 2 glasses of babycham and she turns into the village bike. Seriously what a horrible pathetic excuse for a human being she and the other pricks really are. PS the first part was serious aswell

What's the deal with John Achterberg? I thought he'd left the club, but he was definitely celebrating on the pitch today (quite clear on the ITV highlights)

Is he leaving at the end of the season, or were the rumours the other day just hopeful thinking to get Reina out of his recent funk?

he scored today and i get told to come back on (to eat my words i assume) but im not .. did nobody see the chances he missed today and other million chances since he signed .. yes he played well today and has a few times but our problem all season has been finding the net and is gonna take more than a goal today and midweek to justify a 35MILLION player and the 100 spent ..... hopefully its the beginning of many goals and hope it continues for many years with more silverware ( ie premier league ) ,, GOOD LUCK andy and all the new lads prove to us yous are worthy of represnting liverpool fc ...

LFC FOR LIFE

LFC89

Mate.
Hey is crap, the fact that he scored is irrelevent, he missed a couple of 'sitters', for £35m he should have a far better conversion rate.
Fact is, he is:
Slow.
Often 'out jumped in the air'.
Poor finishing.
Slow to react.
Petulent.
Moody and sulky!.

I will not be swayed by sentiment (in that he scored), look at his stats (they don't lie).
For what LFC spent we have got a very poor return.

I am not 'anti' the lad, but he is just not good enough!!.

Totally agree - one swallow doesn't make a summer {Ed001's Note - no, but it can make my night! ;o)}

Ha ha - show off!

You can see he wants to do well for us and i for one hope he does
molbys spare tyre

Give it a rest, yous are the exact type of "fans" that probably slagged off Lucas when he first join and now cry when he's not in the team.

Why is it always andy Carroll getting the s**t when im sure he isnt the only player to make mistakes. for one day, the day he scored to put us in the final can we just all support the lad and be happy. Anyone would think he missed chances and we lost. Well done andy

Aside from missing the sitter, Andy had a stormer!! He was involved in everything good about Liverpool today. He didnt hide, he didnt drop his head, he kept going and got his reward. A wonderful performance from him and Im seriously beginning to wonder if that Newcastle match was indeed the turning point for him, because it certainly looks like it!!
KiwiRed

How can someone say the fact he scored is irrelevant, it was that goal that got us to the final! ggod grief, the brains on some people.

Def would prefer Chelski. We have their number this year. Spuds have too much pace out wide for us too handle.

From an arsenal fan, spurs are done mate. They wont cause you a problem, and they wont finish in the top 4.

tim cahill writes off liverpool's chances of winning the final.....hmmm, true or just bitter?

Bitter...he plays for the bitters so its rubbed off on him.

I write off tim and everton chances of making to the final, Oh i was right.

Didn't see Tim punching the corner flag today did anyone else... Time must be catching up with the bitter

Cahill has been written off for a long time - even by true blues

They are Crap!!
Get as many players on loan as you can.
We will play well for for 20 minutes and still spank your Arse!!

Rest in peace Piermario Morosini. Horrible day for football.

14 Apr 2012 18:19:31
If we sell Suarez we will be mad,for all his faults he is by far the best player we have and if we want to make any impression on catching the teams ahead of us next year surely Suarez must be kept and a little more quality help added, but for today well done the reds and more of the same in the final.

Would be a tragedy!.
The best we have had in a long time.
Everything possible should be done to provide him with a 'quality' strike partner.

He was brilliant today.

Great performance by the team. My question is, what did Gerrard do? I know it Contradicts itself, but you know what I mean!

Oh for fu**s sake!!!!!!!!

I for one am a bit tired of seeing him 'shooting' all the time. He needs to be more aware of the players around him.

any idea why my criticism of downing not been posted please Edd. would like others opinions on it please. cheers.
taffytel {Ed002's Note - None at all. I have just checked in myself.}

Perhaps because the guy deserves praise, i was at the game and Downing was not at all bad!
Not a criticism but feel for Hendo as its clear he is no wide man. Perhaps he deserves a go in the middle.

As always Downing looks much better when he drives at his opponent, gets to the byline and puts in crosses, whichever flank he is on. Did it on 2 or 3 occasions and looked threatening. However he doesn't do it often enough for me, spends far too much time clogging up the centre of the pitch without looking dangerous.

RedSG

Is this really the day for criticism? Come on guys at least give the moaning and slagging a day of for once!

I've slated Downing all season so far, but he was very good today.

Luis Suarez -
2011-2012 season -
35 games played, 15 goals, 7 assists.
Amazing player.

And how many MOM awards has he had? More than a few, that's for sure! Nick.

He was a different class in the 2nd half, but would prefer he just took players on instead of trying to nutmeg them at every opportunity!

Showed a clinical streak with his goal which he has lacked this season, I hope it continues

RedSG

Our most exciting player in a long time.

Dont want to sound negative but... lot of praise coming after the win i mean its great we won but lets not go over the top carrol was poor even if his goal was good i felt the team line up and formation was wrong agger at left back? 3 at the back? not starting with bellamy or maxi or enrique surprising.

Still feel KK is not a suitable Long term choice rather have rafa back but aside from that good result boys well done
JoshS
(P.S if you disagree dont be abusive we are all entitled to our opinion)

Carrol was excellent again today but agree with your point on kenny

Carroll did very well in his role today, held the ball up well and his touch and pass has come along way. He does need to take his chances on goal i would say as he could have easily had a hat trick.

I agree he wasnt unbelievable, but slowly hes getting better. His desire is there, and hes bossing defenders a bit more. He missed a sitter yes but he scored the vital goal to put us into the FA cup final!
Hopefully with hard work, bit of luck and used in the correct system he could become a great player. Good things come to those who wait...

YNWA

Derry Dan

Agree and disagree....

I agree that the formation initially didn't look right but disagree about your comments on Carroll.

I felt Carroll did reasonably well. He fought and tried hard and I thought he was unlucky not to score earlier. I like the fact that he is clearly trying very hard to address the negative comments in the press and in these kind of forums.

I for one will continue to give him my full support as long as he continues to apply himself as best as he can.

YNWA.

ConnorsLFC

Enrique has been poor for months now, he hasn't been selected for last couple of games which I think is right. Agger may not be the best replacement, but the dropping of Enrique was correct.

Bellamy and Maxi played a game on Tuesday, and aren't the youngest, so could understand that decision.

Think you've been a little harsh on Carroll, he played the target man role well, but clearly needs to work on his finishing. Linked the play fairly well and got into goalscoring positions, he missed a sitter, but got the winner.

It's been a great day for us Liverpool fans but I'd just like to say R.I.P to Serie B Livorno player Piermario Morosini who collapsed and passed away on the field today.

YNWA

Whoever disagreed you really are a sad excuse of a human being.

Carroll my friend is only beginning to rediscover his form after a confidence sapping period.he doesn't need fickle fans like you on his back and giving him grief even when he plays well. Give the lad some credit and support because that will do him more good than slagging him off all the time.would you rather have the sulking he/she back

14 Apr 2012 17:16:28
Can i just say R.I.P Piermario Morosini a Udinese player on loan to Livorono
The player fell to the ground half an hour into the match after suffering a heart attack. Italian media report that the 25-year-old tried to get up at first but failed.
Medical staff attended to him on the pitch, before he was stretchered off and taken to the nearest hospital.
He arrived at the hospital in a pharmacological coma and doctors fitted him with a provisional pacemaker but he could not be resuscitated. All matches in Italy have been suspended

another great game from Carroll, at the moment Carroll looks like a player that no defender wants to get near to because they are afraid of the beast and he's not yet living up to his full potential but he's getting there and 35 mil or what he put in a great performance out there today he kept getting into those areas and best of all he didn't need to be substituted because he was the best man on the pitch

congrats Andy if there was one man who deserved a goal it was you

Carroll plays well when he stays on his feet and uses his strength... He plays poor when hes rolling round on the floor at the slightest contact.... he's been watching Suarez too much and that's not his game. Recently he seems to be getting his old game back.

Slightly over praised

To the bloke who said that Andy was bad with the ball at his feet I think he was great he did tricks that you expect from a striker seem to have little problem getting away from his opponent and his touch has improved he had his pops at goal wich he didn't have a while ago back then he was always trying to get past defenders for a certain goal not like today at all he kept believing in him
self

14 Apr 2012 17:10:20
Well done kopites, you deserved it today, no excuses from me, kenny made the right substitutions at the right time and only one team looked like scoring in the 2nd half, I thought the minutes silence was impeccably observed and good luck reds in the final

14 Apr 2012 17:10:07
Great Result! Its always special to come from behind.
Have to appreciate & congratulate everyone for our win today. Special mentions include, Luis, Andy & Brad!

Everton have always been behind our shadow & will continue to do so.

Though not the best time to tell this but Carra was again very sloppy. Wonder why Enrique didn't start. But we won so no problemo. What ever team talk Kenny gave to the lads at half-time should have been special.

Carroll & Suarez rocking, thats a good sight to see.
I have been telling on here play the big man upfront he will come good and he is proving it. The stats when he started, our win percentage is better compared when he has not. Lets hope Kenny understand this and play him every match if no injury or fatigue concerns are there.

You can say a lot of things about Carroll but one thing you cant say is that his head drops. Even when getting stick and missing sitters he's always head up. Thats the same attitude which helped lucas become a key man at this club.

Great result today. Thought KK had got it wrong with starting Carrager and moving Agger to left back and not stating Bellamy but Kenny got it right in the end. Carraghers a legend but feel the partnership of Agger and Skrtel is are strongest. Glad to see Andy Carroll get on the score sheet again and hope he gets a run of games. I know he's not everyones cup of tea and we paid over the odds but his general play is getting better.

14 Apr 2012 16:36:40
Why there is no mention of Bellamy. The whole team played so much better as soon as he came on. Well done to Kenny, it takes a brave manager to make attacking changes in the last 15 minutes of a semi final against a side in form.
And well done to Carroll, not great performance but super clever goal, hope this brings his confidence up.

Roy

Is it really well done kenny? I thought he got the selection wrong from the start and it was only when he brought on maxi and Bellamy (who I thought should have started, as well as Enrique) that we looked the better side. I'm not one of the haters but kk got his selection wrong today. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool won so there is a strong argument to say he got it spot on.}

Not a great performance from Andy? What does the man have to do? Earlier in the season, his touch was poor, simple as. The most pleasing thing for me about Andy, is in the last few games his touch and awareness has improved greatly. He's never going to be Messi, but I hope in years to come, we can say that Messi could never play like Andy Carrol! It might sound like a bit much, but if he can keep improving like he has done over this season, the lad could be unstoppable. Although I must confess that at points I had my doubts about him, now I am much more optimistic about where his top level can be. He is ours for at least 4 more years, and I can honestly say that he could, just could, be a world beater. Nick.

Nick,

Andy have played better in the last couple of games, and his performance today was better than he displayed a couple of months ago,but come on be honest with your self, apart from his very good goal and another couple of runs (and I mean a couple as in 2) he did little else, for a Liverpool player, if we want to class him with the better players then this is not good enough, I think Bellamy did more in his 10 minutes than Carroll did in 90 (apart from the goal -- the very good goal)

Roy

Roy, I sort of know what you're saying, but he did alot more today than make 2 runs. He was pulling defenders all over the place, won almost everything in the air, and had a few sublime knock down headers. But you're right in the fact that he was still not up for MOM. However, my point is that a few months ago, despite my red tinted optimistic goggles, I thought we might have had the worst buy in PL history - but his recent performances (including today's), I think if he is kept fit, and keeps improving like he has done, we could have the best player of that type around. Maybe it is a bit of relief mixed with optimism and it's gone to my head, but I think there's 20 goals in the lad next season. Nick.

Europsport is reporting that Piermario Morosini, playing for Serie B side, Livorno, has died after suffering a heart attack during today's game against Pescara.

Terrible news. Condolences to all his family, friends and colleagues.

YNWA

Indeed terrible news! Love and blessings to his family!

Just because we won doesn't mean he got it spot on. Carragher gave away a soft goal and Henderson and downing were ineffective. If Enrique started (with agger and skrtl at cb) with Bellamy and maxi on the wings it would have been much more comfortable.

14 Apr 2012 16:25:41
First of all,i want to start by saying welldone to the lads;though it was not an eye catching performance but overall,a win is a win.I must admit i have been a critic of the altogether most especially the manager and andy caroll. After today,s performance,i have decided to lay down my criticism for the time being and have decided to join the wagon of those fans calling for the manager to atleast be given another season to prove his worth. As for the finals,i dont care who we face but win or loose,i will still support the team.

Question for Macca and Ed001 (not that I don't like the other ed's lol) I have heard that there a LOT of changes this summer planned and that the club are looking to invest again quite heavily. This may be through fresh funds or re-investing the funds from sales but they are definitely determined to do well! My question is with the recent personell are the targets likely to change, and realistically (and I know it's a bit pie in the sky) what sort of movement are we likely to see in out, not necessarily names coming in but numbers and positions we are looking at. Also Carroll and Suarez, are we seriously considering letting both go?
Chees Jim {Ed001's Note - it is difficult to know what will happen for sure now, the method behind choosing which players to take a look at has changed. It might mean absolutely no change or it could lead to a complete reassessment of the squad and targets.}

He is a great manager who i personally respect and has done alot with a club who hasnt exactly giving him alot of money to spend.. he will get silverware soon

He'll get silverware if he leaves the bitters

Ye - i think we all know what he`s done but has he got to ram it down everyone`s throat like he did in the papers this mornin

Moyes is just another mini-Ferguson. According to him Liverpool only won because of two mistakes by the Everton defence. He forgot to mention that Everton only scored thanks to a mistake by the Liverpool defence assisted by Carragher (there's no way he can be considered as defence).

As i have said before, fans are so fickle.

Before the game all you armchair managers/fans sitting on your Xbox FIFA Manager slating KK for the team selection and after all praising the team.

I am sure KK knows better than us hence him being a legend and us watching from the side lines.

Just be patient and we will be back where we belong, keep the faith, and believe in the only man at the moment who can lead us forward, he has done it before and he will do it again, In Kenny We Trust.

2 goals in 2 games from the big man Carroll.

Suarez looks to have found his shooting boots getting 4 in 5, so it's good to see Carroll get a couple of goals and putting in two very strong performances back to back.

He is improving and Liverpool look set to reap the rewards, let's hope he keeps the form up, as he has much improved in the last few months and is starting to show the same level of performance that he did at Newcastle in the begin half of last season, still some way to go, but what a turn around.

Maybe losing to Newcastle with all the abuse directed at him, on a personal level from his home team (Newcastle) fans woke him up to the reality he's a Liverpool player now, and needs to prove himself all over and get back to his best, because there is no going back. Who knows?

Kenny Dalglish, the Manager must take the credit, if he's the fall guy when we lose and all the fair weather fans slagging him off, then he's the hero when we win, so getting singing his name.

He's under pressure, vote of confidence or no vote of confidence, he doesn't need to be told where Liverpool should be in the League he truly knows what is expected of this Club by millions of Liverpool fans and hundreds and thousands of Liverpudlians who have supported this club through generations, no two Americans are more important to Kenny than those people are or ever will be.

Two finals in one season is excellent, it's something special, but the League position does tarnish some of the glory. But there is no way you get to two Cup finals with a poor squad, or a poor manager in English football, massive confidence should be taken out of the Cup runs and it proves on our day we are very very good.

Minor tweaking in the Summer is all that is needed. I may be on the happy gas after the win today, but how do you get to two cup finals in one season with a poor squad or a poor manager!?

Ollieston.

Well said mate. My clueless Spuds, Man U mates have been banging that 'average' door for too long. They're pretty quiet of late tho ;)

What you guys think?

Ps-kenny please play players in right position..I don't want opposition to get 1 goal headstarts..all the best guys..reds for life..

I'm in two minds about who i want to face in the Final.

Tottenham have got a 4-0 win against us this season, the match died with the first red card for Adam and then Skertl got sent walking, so 9 men against 11. It was a bad day at the office. Where better for revenge than at Wembley in the F.A Cup final.

Then Chelsea, since Roman took over, we've had to push well above ourselves in terms of over coming that Corporate club and we have put them to the sword more times than anyone else and we've hurt them more than anyone else, it's safe to say they are the dirt in London (Sorry Ed002, nout persy ;).

I think Chelsea in the final would be a massive game. Especially if they have missed out on Champions League football, they'll be out for blood and we won't disappoint them in being just as hungry.

You can tell the Carling cup win made a difference, I can't say anyone on our entire team looked nervous, unlike the bitters who bottled it in the second half.

Andy Carroll, who missed an easy chance but bounced back to score Liverpool's late winner: "It's the best feeling ever. We worked hard and getting a goal at the end was great. I had a few chances and I probably should have scored earlier but I kept going. I've had some criticism but I have kept going. I believe in myself every day."

Andy you beauty.

Have not been here for a while

Anyone who is a true Liverpool FC fan will know why.

If you don't like to support the team and its manager in the bad times - you have no right to glory in the good ones.

Fans? Supporters? You'll Never Walk Alone?

Yeah right.. you can throw yourself out.

How many people who pour scorn and criticism on Kenny Dalglish, his team, his selections, his tactics - will be man enough, big enough, honourable enough to come back on here now - and apologise? Or even better, actually hand in their right to call themselves fans of Liverpool FC - and socialise over the next few weeks about the fact your team is in the FA Cup Final?

You don't deserve to...

Kenny arrived at a club in huge turmoil, had to get rid of Torres, recruit half of a new first team, a new coaching staff, reinstill the LFC way on and off the pitch - and try to blend a lot of new, young players.

In the Premiership - its been too hard this year because the team has not been settled and we've been without our three best players for large parts of the season; Lucas, Gerrard and Suarez. And most Premiership teams are so much more settled and established than LFC in 2011. Thats it. It was too hard to do it in the Premiership this year.

But through sheer grit, teamwork, hard work - Dalglish has now got LFC in to a second Cup Final of the year. How many will Arsenal and Man City be in? Oh. None. And along the way, LFC have knocked out Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd - and Everton.

Nobody in 15 years will sit in a pub and say 'ah yes, but they hit the woodwork a lot in the Premiership in 2012 eh?'. They will say ' Oh yeah, 2012, that was the year Dalglish came back to Liverpool and Steven Gerrard lifted two cups at Wembley'.

Our team is more recognised, more respected, more honoured, more historic, more dramatic - and more loved than any other. Because of history. The defeat by Wimbledon in the Cup Final is as much part of our incredible history as Istanbul. I cried on both days for different reasons. We are the biggest Club because of dramatic history. And true fans stays loyal to our Club and its Legends - in bad days and good days.

And yes, today - was a very good day.

So tonight - I send my love and respect to all my fellow Liverpool fans. You deserve your smile. Here's to Steven Gerrard, Louis and Big Andy - and the rest of the Red Men. And tonight, lets raise a full glass high and toast our own Legend, as player and manager, Kenny Dalglish...

YNWA

Drew

These "supporters" want the team to win, to look at the league table should not give everyone the illusion we've had a great seasons 'cos we haven't. However the domestic cups have been a great distraction from mediocrity.

Hessle Red

Nice post Drew, totally agree. Nick.

Drew i agree with SOME of what u say yes true keeny walked into a sinking ship but the fact of the matter is this he spent a hundred million on basically suarez n enrique. Also he was told at the start of the season the goal was top four finish he aint achived that so i ask you this would you rather win 1 cup atm maybe two or finish top 4 and attract big name players or average players i know what id prefer. well done redmen today motm for me was carroll DavidLFC

Best post in a long time

Welcome back Drew.

There are still some positive people that come on here regardless, you wouldn't be alone.

Matt S - YNWA

Sorry Drew disagree this has not been a good season dont get me wrong two cup finals fantastic. But league performance is where the money is and long term stability for the club has been poor signings have been poor i mean if you compare some of the transfer values to other players carrol same price as villa nad fabregas not saying we could actually get them but in quality theres a HUGE diff

You are going a little overboard in patting yourself on the back as a "true supporter".

Supporters of all clubs - great and small - criticize tactics and players. That is simply what supporters do. It doesn't mean they need to step down as supporter. Silly.

Step down from your high horse.

Well done to the boys, and great to see Carroll starting to score for us. Have to say some of KK's decisions this year have been questionable but his handling of Carroll since the Newcastle game has been excellent.
Will shut up some of the media "pundits" too as the knives were being sharpened today.

Excellent win for us , we could have made it comfortable if we had taken the chances we had but, another winner from caroll, I had problem with kenny's team selection but we got away with it, win is a win now on to the final good luck to us!!

Andy Carroll need to focus a bit more and he could be a legend. He just doesn't give up and if he read all the s**te that's been thrown at him, he'd have thrown in the towel a long time ago. You've got to hand it to him...he doesn't hide. As Bellars, his freekick was outstanding. And if we sell Suarez this summer we'd be fools. Long Live the King!

Well said and massive respect for having the balls to say so.

Your team really played well in the first half. we couldn't even pass the ball properly in the first. But liverpool came out all guns blazing in the second and everton choked. excellent match best of luck for the rest of the season

amar

Fair play for appearing and being honest. To be fair, the first half wa a typical small team raising their game against a bigger club . Happens all the time. Second half was better for the reds with the smaller team, having put so much into the first half, running out of steam. You are right though in the fact that the best team won. Ah well, take the stick that,s coming your way.

Fair play, Blue247. About the same as my thoughts, really. Not sure what happened to your side 2nd half- looked pretty anemic really and I know they're capable of more honestly.

What's up with Drenthe? Is he injured or some such? Thought he might have played as you always seem much more dangerous when he's on the pitch.

Well done for having the balls to come on here Blue247, and for admitting it was Liverpool's semi final. Your banter's always seemed good natured and light hearted, so don't be a stranger, this page today would be half as busy if it wasn't for posts looking to slag you off, yi must be doing something right!

Oh, and on a different note, YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Get in Liverpool, top notch 2nd half performance, can't wait for the final.

Underwhelming first half. Everton then choked. We should have won more comfortably. But well done Kenny.

Why try put a sour note on the win?
Liverpool came out fighting in the 2nd half, they didn't choke they were outplayed.

A very good performance in the 2nd half by us...Putting pressure on Everton after doing nothing in the 1st...could have been more...BUT this is the reason we bought Carroll...he influenced the game more than anyone...and Suarez also was different class...If these two carry on like this we can become a major force again..the defending in the first half may not have been good but they were at least better in the second..Maxi and Bellers also played really well and we looked threatening with those two on the pitch.hope they are here to stay for a year or two atleast..Anyway..UP LIVERPOOL..YNWA...

14 Apr 2012 14:46:37
I have noticed that in the last 3 games, More crosses have been going in to the box, and there is actually more than one person in there. This is why Andy Carroll is playing really well. There are also many other options if Carroll doesn't make it, where he can lay it off to Suarez, Bellamy, Gerrard or Maxi.

14 Apr 2012 14:46:17
Carroll scores the header with his back to the goal.thats what he should do from now on. Zaydan123

Great carrol scores n stil gets stick...

14 Apr 2012 14:46:11
Must say a big well done to the lads, great second half performance!
But for future games i would like to see carra and jay dropped to the bench. We play far too deep with carra at cb which just invites pressure. Jay meanwhile does give his all but he just does not cut it for me, maybe get jonjo/hendo in the middle and gerrard must be playing further forward (either on the right or off the strikers).
For now lets enjoy this win and sit back to see which of the londoners awaits us in the final.

Spearing was vital today and had a very good game. Without him someone else would have to stay back.

Awesome display by Suarez and Carroll and a special mention to Brad Jones for a rock solid display. We finally looked the part 2nd half. Good work lads.

Bad luck Blue 247

Gotta love these derbies ;)

cozinoz

In a strange way it was good to see Carroll miss so many chances today. I think in the past he has lacked the confidence to get into the box or shoot but he now looks like he wants to score.

As Shankly said "Roger Hunt misses a few, but at least he gets In the right place to miss them". Hopefully the last two goals and performances will give him the confidence to get in the right places more often.

JRG

Actually think Hendo had a good game. Looked less nervous and was more positive.

SACK KENNY NOW!!....I DONT THINK SO...DOUBTERS...SHAME ON YOU!

As souness said in the commentary i was watching the league table doesnt lie and the league table is the only way of measuring the season, therefore it hasnt been a good one. And i think even kenny must realise this, we have been poor for most of the season and i would be surprised if he survives for another giving the amount of money he has spent and the total lack of performance in the league , we were never challenging for fourth place this season and i dont think that a cup and a final even two cups is enough to paper over the cracks just my
thoughts though

And Souness can judge Kenny because?

Hii Ed001 I would really like to dictate this to Ed025
Telllll ya ma ya ma to wipe away those tears no trophies for 17 years

also what do you make of the performance today?
I thought everyone was good except carra he really looked a liability
{Ed001's Note - I didn't think Carra was so bad apart from that one error, he is much better when we have to push forward, as he stops dropping so deep and tries to play the ball. He is far better on the ball than he is given credit for and that he allows himself to be. If he stopped punting it upfield and looked to play the ball more, he would be much better.}

I agree with the ed, in the first half he wasnt looking to play a ball forward at all. when we came on in the second there was a few times carra was actually takin the ball for a run in evertons half. a sight i think we havent seen in awhile. when he did push forward he looked much more solid

You beauty, one way traffic. Everton better than us?? You've got to be kidding, to all the blue nose's gobbing off before the game that's what happens when you get over confident. I had a feeling that if we played how we can play they couldn't live with us and when we got our act together after a poor first half it proved to be the case. Very annoying though when you see how well we can play and where we are in the league, it begs the question why?

Andy has been poor but I reckon that one Goal is worth 35 million ;-) lol...

Andy hasnt been poor in the last couple of appearances. He's shown an eagerness to close down players and attempt to retain the ball. His touch has improved and is linking up better with those around him. He still needs to work on timing his runs and improving his finish, but he is improving and contributing much more.

KennyD JFT96

Agree that he is contributing much more, but his touch is still way off the mark. Has had numerous chances of taking good goals and has fluffed them all...still a lot of practice in front of goal required.

HMMMM... Take off Downing. Put on Bellamy who gets match winning assist.

Really Kenny

YoungRed

I think Downing played a pretty decent game today and put some decent crosses in. He wasn't reluctant to take his man on and ran at Baines a fair few times. But I think Kenny did right in substituting Bellamy for Downing, as it introduced a bit more pace on the left wing and eventually led to the goal with Bellamy getting the assist.

14 Apr 2012 13:43:31
Angry that Carragher started, he might be a legend but winning should take priority and the best XI should start. Skrtel & Agger are clearly our best central pairing and Enrique has been one of our best players this season yet he's on the bench. Kenny has lost the plot.

14 Apr 2012 13:39:36
Anybody know where i can get streaming from the game in Australia. They just cut it of due to "contractual issues" Arghhhhhh

Every fan on here was shocked to see Carragher start. However kenny starts him ?
WHY.
Shelvey the best player in previous games, dropped ?
Maxi scores 2 midweek. Dropped ?

SHOCKING Tactical awareness.
Its almost a stubborn approach to allow Carragher to play in such a big game, when we have Skrtel,Agger,Johnson and Enrique availible.

I love Carragher and i love Liverpool fc.
But this love is making us loose to often.
we are not feared !

andy lfc,
I thought liverpool were going to win the fa cup this season?
being 1 nil down to everton at half time doesn't seem like a team thats going to win the fa cup
From a happy gooner

What have you won again?????!!!!!!!?????????

Champions league qualification

What does a champions league qualification trophy look like? does it take up a lot of room in the trophy cabinet? of course there'll be plenty of room in the cabinet for it since nothings gone in it for the last 5 or 6 years

Happy gooner.... Enjoy your open top bus parade with a 4th place certificate. Haha muppet.

Just sums the Arse up. Making money for their shareholders is deemed more important than winning silverware. PS. didn't Cesc cry when you lost to Birmingham in the Carling Cup final?Clearly he preferred to win trophies but that's not the Arsenal philosophy apparently

Well we have a another final and a carling cup, what about you!!!??

14 Apr 2012 13:33:08
Hope Kenny changes it? at the very least move Carra to right back, Johnson to left back, Agger and Skyrtel in the middle. Still leaving the option to bring on Kuyt,Maxi and Bellamy for the last 30mins if were still 1-0 down. We need to go forward and Bellamy, Maxi and Kuyt are 10 times more likely to put the ball in the net than Downing,Spearing who are both awful and Henderson who's not having a bad game but would he ever score No!

We have just gave them a head start no need to worry we will win.

Come on redmen

mighty reds

14 Apr 2012 13:32:42
These commentators are driving me mad. The way they are talking you'd think everton were playing us off the park. The way i see it its 2 teams playing scrappy edgy football with no little or no quality. But havent we created more chances than them. We gave them a goal headstart but they haven't mad anything else. Surely its a very even game so far (and not a good one). and i think the balls spent more time in and around their box than ours. This happens with pundits every game. Maybe the media just have higher standards of liverpool than other teams...but why should they? theyve spent the last week telling us everton are the better/in form team. If this is how well everton can play then im glad im a red.

anyone agree? its been a bug bear if mine for a while. We will dominate teams for 90 minutes and if they get a smash and grab the media make out that they played great and deserved the victory. Fine if we're playing a lesser club, but everton are above us in the table.

rant over. Jonjo, jose and bellers for the second half!come on the reds.

Redpotato

14 Apr 2012 13:32:28
Carragher is quality, he's been unfortunate this season and is second guessing and triple guessing everything he does, because he knows he is struggling for pace.

Love the guy, he's been a true servant to the club and it's hard to see a true champ look like a bit of a chump because he has been so good for so long.

He's his own worst critic and will take full responsibility for his mistakes because he's a top bloke and a true professional.

The goal was offside, in Carra's defence, but sadly it stands and separates the two teams. Fight together, as a team; or die like individuals.

To all those ''fans'' taking to the boards to slag of Carragher, what happened to YNWA?

Why not wheel out Hansen, Rush, Lawrenson and any other legends whilst we're at it. Sentimental crap as per usual.

Ash

It became you'll never win again with the local brigade: Gerrard, Carra, Spearing, Kenny and co. Why is Maxi not playing? Why is Shelvey not playing? Why is Enrique not playing? FFS

Weren't you clows saying Jelavic was too expensive in the summer oops BOOM!

14 Apr 2012 13:31:36
I'm sure we had the best defensive record up until jan with Johnson agger skrtel Enrique playing and I'm sure today is the first day they've all been fit at the same time again so I can understand why there not all staring :s I know enriques been poor last few games it has to more of a stronger line up with him!

Jman

14 Apr 2012 13:30:55
I can only assume that Tom 'Heads will Roll' Werner wasn't privvy to KDs team selection. Shocking.

I think this is gonna be a 5 pint San Miguel second half.

Its quite franky embarassing.

He chose the best line up to win the game. Hence the result.
Fans like you are embarassing to the club.

14 Apr 2012 13:29:42
Half time analysis:
Pretty even match in all honesty, the only difference being we are sitting slightly too deep and playing too slow. This to me is due to Carragher being in the team, pulls us back and doesnt get the ball out of his feet early to play forward. Andy Carroll looking genuinely good up front, Suarez losing his cool towards the end of the first half. Downing not playing too badly really, looks a bit of a handful. All in all bar a defensive mix up, we deserve to be level. Carragher however, shouldnt have started in my opinion. He looks well off the pace.
What are your thoughts ed?
KiwiRed

14 Apr 2012 13:28:05
For the good of the liverpool fc carra has to be dropped and not play again for us.

its like were playing with 3 cb's and no left back. and downings been poor. cant believe shelvey didnt earn a place and henderson did. so many other problems but i give up.

do you agree ed that when kenny first took over, he was playing people who deserved a chance but now it his signings gettin the nod even if they have been in poor form and why the are we playin 3 cb's?

14 Apr 2012 13:27:09
Hendo on right..
Steve g at CM looking out of breath..
Carra playing at CB next to jones..
Suarez crying like baby..
Kenny shouting penalty every time..

I have decided to blame the sun for first half..could not find anything else..

14 Apr 2012 13:27:05
Lots of good players out there, but no shape and structure. Definitely don't have the wide players for 4-4-2 either.
Carra off for Enrique, and Downing off for either Bellamy/Maxi and get back to the shape we had mid-week with an extra man in midfield.

Jones
Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique
Henderson - Spearing
Bellamy - Gerrard - Suarez
Carroll

- Shane.

14 Apr 2012 13:27:00
Kenny will have to take the wrap for this if it doesn't work out. Appalling team selection as a result of not wanting to tell Carra he's starting on the bench. As a result, the team has no shape or balance. He must realise this and sort it out.

Sir Masher

14 Apr 2012 13:26:41

Dalglish has proved again that he does not have the balls to make tough decisions. Even if we win today he has shown that he is not the man for us next season. Picking carra is just so wrong, we could all see that it is wrong. Why couldn't he. Maybe he knows they will both be gone at the end of the season and went with his heart andvnot his head.

FOR F**K SAKE KENNY. WHY DO YOU INSIST ON PLAYING CARRA? WHY DO YOU INSIST ON PLAYING HENDERSON ON THE RIGHT? THERE IS NO BALANCE IN THE TEAM AT ALL.....WHY CANT YOU SEE THIS?

Please can someone tell me why Kenny just doesn't see this?

Eds/Macca, do you have any ideas?

PJRED

14 Apr 2012 13:25:52
why carragher, spearing and henderson started is beyond me. if we don't win this match, then hopefully the owners will make changes straight away. i got to say that kenny will get so much stick and i don't like to see it. carragher causes another error which is embarrassing.

14 Apr 2012 13:25:33
Idk why enrique is not starting..Skrtle and agger worked at cb. Maxi and bellamy should have started too. But w.e we have to win with who we have on the pitch!

14 Apr 2012 13:24:33
Carragher, why why why must he start he has no pace a circle of 30yards max which he runs around in
Either hoofs the ball or passes back to the keeper
Great servant and true living legend but it's time to stop, well he spdoesnt need to start
Why not play Enrique or Kelly rb and jonno lb
Anything but carra

14 Apr 2012 13:23:35
Kenny has played right into Evertons hands instead of picking our strongest 11 he has tried to protect Jones and play a more defensive line up.

Get fookn Carra off at half time bring Enrique on switch Agger to CD get spearing off switch Henderson to centre and bring on Bellamy.... FFS

Not a rumour.....everton winning 1-0, jelavic the scorer.

14 Apr 2012 13:10:38
Told you when carra plays we lose

Wasn't Carra's fault, Agger should have got rid of it. If you're going to blame anyone blame Kenny. Why is he playing 4-4-2? He should've played 4-5-1. All the 2nd balls are dropping to Everton players because we are being over run in midfield.

Kenny imo has got it wrong again, i'm so f*cking angry its unbelievable.

14 Apr 2012 13:08:19
carragher out of breath after 25 minutes, messed up with the goal, he is constantly 5 yards behind our defence, he has cost us about 15 points this season, he needs to retire immediately, he's too much of a liabilty now

14 Apr 2012 13:07:04
Well done Kenny.

You're the only LFC fan I know who would start Carra.....

Unfortunately he is our manager though.

I wonder why we think playing Carra is a bad idea.... What do we know eh?

hmmmm.

BJH YNWA. (I see no end to this inept crap. It'll be the same next season w/Kenny. When Carra can't even do the basics anymore - it's really time to worry. Hope we scrape a win - even if we do, we can't paper over this insanity forever - it'll cost us more and more points. What the hell goes on in Kenny's brain?)

I really don't see this 'pass and move' football. Only passing is back passing to keeper then long ball to Carroll. We have no style or game plan. Pathetic. Not just this match, all season.

Just listening to the lads on Sky Soccer Saturday,,
have to say Im shocked to here that after our Owners flew into liverpool this week and after sacking Comolli etc,, they flew straight back to the US to watch their Boton Red Sox first game of the season instead of our Semi-final today which is essentially kennys biggest game of the season!!
I know its not that big a deal but it just doesnt sit right to me.

14 Apr 2012 12:22:03
If we lose today, Kenny will once again have to answer for his selections. Maxi scores two goals and is benched again? Why do we need Carra and Agger? Is Enrique hurt or something? He is on the bench. I understand he has had poor form, but Carra's has been woeful for 3 years!!!

I would not have started Jay. I think Kenny is playing to sentiment again with the local lads. Love wee Jay, but he offers nothing going forward, inevitably will make a horrrible pass at some point that could cost a goal, and the way he tackles will leave him open to cards.

I feel sick.

14 Apr 2012 12:21:56
Whoever osted about cruyff not coming. Just stop talking nonsense coz he didn't live in Mexico when he sorted that club out.

14 Apr 2012 12:19:47
Carra starts again. Kenny is too sentimental. Probably thinks Carra will bring leadership or something. What he will bring is a defender who is too slow, poor passing and long past his prime. Also starting Spearing. So we have 3 CBs. Or is Agger playing LB? I think Kenny is using the same tactic that worked against chelsea last year. Very defensive, and hope for something on the counter?

Henderson, Spearing, Carragher in our starting 11. I can't help but be worried.

Canada red.

14 Apr 2012 12:13:25
Agger LB ? Gerrard on right wing ? Henderson and spreaing as our midfield ? Downing over Maxi ? What is kenny up 2 ? We have no chance today, Kenny is a fool, Comoli was used as a scapegoat. 3-0 everton. Kenny out

I agree mate. Gerrard should be in the middle to battle. Henderson wont want to know after 15 mins. Shelvey should be in place of Henderson in such a big game. Shelvey is up for the fight.
Maxi should also be on as he is our best assett for goal scoring along with suarez.##Suarez and maxi upfront for me would solve goal scoring issues.

Dangerous putting Agger at LB
And carragher CB
i have a feeling we might bottle it today

Is everyone else nervous as hell? And that was before i saw the line up, i know Enrique isn't in the best of form but id still rather him play instead of Carra. I know that's harsh on Carra after years of great service to the club but Skrtel and Agger have been arguably the best CB partnership in the Prem so why split them up, unless Kenny has tricked us all and Carra's on the right and Johnson's at LB. Anyway i'm rambling so come on the reds, i think this is Carroll's game to shine.

always a red

14 Apr 2012 12:07:53
Wonder how we are setting up today.

4-2-3-1

Jones
Johnson Carra Skrtel Agger
Spearing Henderson
Suarez Gerrard Downing
Carroll

4-4-2

Jones
Johnson Carra Skrtel Agger
Henderson Spearing Gerrard Downing
Carroll Suarez

4-3-3

Jones
Johnson Carra Skrtel Agger
Henderson Spearing Gerrard
Suarez Carroll Downing

id go for the 4-2-3-1 as i think we are more solid that way, Carra should of been on the bench and Enrique starting at left back with Agger at center back, also Maxi should of started instead of Downing.

Hi Ed, all this talk about KK's being safe, have the owners actually come out and stated he will be the manager next season? Or have they just stated they have full confidence in KK? The reason I ask, is because I am wondering whether he will be moved into a different position within the club. What do you think? {Ed001's Note - I think he will change role in the summer.}

14 Apr 2012 11:57:14
Why does everyone want Rafa back? Sure he won an EC and i'll be slated for saying it, but that had a tinge of luck to it. people talk about the changes he made at half time but i believe every supporter around thought that didi should have started the game and kewell was a gamble. Then the year we "should" have won the league it was rafa who lost it by frequently changing the team against so called weaker opposition and subsequently dropping to many points. His last season was a farce as not only were we not winning games but we were brutal to watch as well with his scared tactics. Robbie Keane will not go down in folklore as a legend but he still shouldn't have sold him when there was no replacement brought in and Torres injuries started to mount up. keane took a while to get going but correct me if i'm wrong but nearly everytime he scored he was subsequently dropped for the next game which didn't do his confidence the world of good. yes he bought Torres, Alonso, pepe, skrtel, agger and mascherano but he bought some dudes too and team with that spine should have really challenged more than once for the league.. ok rant over, here's hoping for a great result and performance this afternoon..

14 Apr 2012 11:56:13
Why oh why is carra starting, why is maxi not playing and why is agger playing left back?

14 Apr 2012 11:54:09
I think all the sackings relate to the Suarez affair

We will see

Pistol Pete

Johnson, Carra, Skrtel, Agger... How do you get 3 at the back?

14 Apr 2012 11:50:16
We finally win (at Blackburn ) without Carra and now he's back? Unbelievable, really hope it doesn't backfire on us, even if we get through Carra would be a disaster waiting to happen in the final. Just hope I'm wrong.

14 Apr 2012 11:49:09
hope aggers not playing at leftback..or could it be carra at rb and glen on the left..cant understand y we r not playing enrique ...enrique ..skirts ..agger ..johnson would be better

14 Apr 2012 11:47:56
hey lfc fans..............

i am positive..........dont get me wrong.........

however..........

just watch carragher drop our defensive line so deep today.......and placing agger left back..is just stupid as hes a centre back..why do managers do that all the time!!

wembley is a massive pitch..and enrique would be a much better player to use the space with his pace etc.......

when managers do things like that, its very hard to be positive

red lobster

14 Apr 2012 11:37:06
lfc team, no enrique, no maxi, no kuyt. carragher starts.
billy

Agger is not a left back

same thing all over again

placing players in the wrong positions!!

No enriqe ? oh kenny may be your last match in charge

Johnson will be left back and carra at right back or vise visa.

I think he has lost the plot were is enrique???

14 Apr 2012 11:36:40
C'Mon Andy......

Seems he's starting today upfront with Luis. He is playing against a team that he has already broken his duck against for us so let's hope he smashes a brace and finally catapults himself and shuts up all the non-believers.

Good luck to all the boys today!

Get In!!!

Not been on for a while but team is:
Jones
Johnson Carra Skrtel Agger
Hendo Spearing Gerrard Downing
Carroll Suarez,

I'd have liked to see Bellers in and I think Henderson is miles better in centre mid but we'll back what Kennys put out!
Also I don't know if its true but I hope the sacking of Mr. Comolli is making space for Kenny upstairs and we can bring a young manager in, just my opinion

Totally agree mate, Henderson plays outstanding for England in the cm role, Enrique should of started at lb with Agger at cb instead of Carra, and Maxi instead of Downing

I hope Kenny resists the urge to put in wee Jay Spearing. I don't think we need a defensive mid if Johnson/skrtel/agger/enrique start. I would put Gerrard and Henderson at center, with Gerrard slightly forward. Wing support with Bellamy or Downing on right and Maxi on left. Suarez and Carroll should be no-brainer, but Kuyt does score alot of goals against the Toffees so I can see Kenny using him. Infact, I bet he will start with Carragher again (which is why I feel stomach sick) and Spearing in midfield, with Gerrard, Henderson, and then Kuyt/Suarez/Downing up top. 4321.

Got a feeling that carra will start today, and it's fair to say I will be disappointed. If he plays instead of agger then kenny has something wrong with him. The signs point to it though, he missed the Blackburn game as did Stevie Suarez and downing.
Come on REDMEN, do it for the 96

Hi eds

Cruyff has just stepped down from the board of Ajax and is apparently going to sign up for an advisory role within the new structure of the club.

What does this mean for his chances of coming to Liverpool? Do these advisory roles in general require the advisor to remain at the club? The specific question being, can he come to Liverpool and still fulfill his commitments as an advisor to Ajax?

Any clarifications on this would be welcome.

Cheers
Rohan {Ed001's Note - like I said all along, it is unlikely he would leave his beloved Ajax.}

Well here we all are, Saturday morning and full of expectation, before the big game. I just hope that regardless of the result there are not too many people on here at teatime slaughtering some of our players for a misplaced pass or missed shot on goal.

Anyway, I find it amazing that people are supporting Rafa to come back.

Yes he won us a couple of cups, the biggest of them all, but have you never heard of the expression "Never go back!".

Some of you criticise the decision to appoint Kenny, as a backward step, and then ask for Rafa??

I personally would like to see Kenny get a bit longer, but in the event of him going, I think we should appoint a young manager and give him a long term contract to rebuild.

Thanks,

Hi Eds & Reds,

T minus 2 hrs 33 minutes, cant wait for match.

I'd just like to make the following points:

1) All this talk about Cruyff been next Director of Football, i am not buying it for one minute, correct me if i am wrong but wasnt there a big race row involving him and Edgard Davids recently, something to do with the KNVB, just in light of whole Suarez affair, if this is true, wouldnt exactly be good for the image concious owners.

2)Most importantly, tomorrow marks the 23rd anniversary of Hillsborough, 96 fans didnt come that day, i ve no doubt the minute silence will be impecably respected by both fans, 23 years ago tomorrow a city united was united in grief, colours were put aside, as the city grieved together.

I was 9 years old watching it on ITV, not really knowing what was going on, the next day I saw a picture on the front of the Irish Independent, showing fans be crushed against the leppings road end fencing, an image i ll never forget.

My first time in Anfield was when we beat United 3-1 in march 2011, as i stood outside the ground I went to the Hillsborough memorial and say a prayer or two,i just thought, 96 fans like me went to a match but they never came home, i just prayed that they would get their justice.

The 96 will get their justice, that i am sure of, lets win it for the fans lads.

Hello there I think in my own humble opinion that the Liverpool team that we are watching have some very promising points if ONLY we had a striker that could put the ball in the back of the net we would be way up the table.Maybe I am watching from rose tinted glasses but it seems that we,at times are playing very good football. On the Henderson issue I do believe he will become a real gem [REMEMBER WHAT A LOT OF FANS SAID ABOUT LUCAS]Now I am going to Carrol if that person who without doubt is a good player will actually put his whole heart into the game(where if any one who has played football would tell you that they would loose a nut rather than loose a game)So what I am saying if the players we have would play the game with half the love us fans have for the team we would never lose a game.Oh and move the posts so we stop hitting them

14 Apr 2012 09:33:16
Think Kenny might surprise everyone, our problem position is defensive CM so with 3 centre backs starting to offer maximum protection to Jones from corners and free kicks and good options going forward with 3 big centre backs to send into Evertons box if we
need to. I think it's a better option for us at the moment with Lucas unavailable.

.......................Jones...........................
..........Skyrtel...Coates..Agger................
Johnson....Henderson..Gerrard...Enrique.....

Just heard a throw away comment from someone with no connection to the club, that Kenny will move into the vacant DoF seat at the end of this season and a young manager will be brought in, the likes of AVB or Martinez.
One of Kenny's roles will be to re-produce a boot room from the likes of Carra and SG.
Thoughts.
Its not from an ex player or the mate of a tea lady in the canteen, just summat I over heard.

Heaven help us if we perpetuate the boot room mentality

Onr thing is for sure don't expect any balance today in the pre match reporting on Sky, BBC and Talk**te about the semi final. According to yesterdays reporting, Everton are going to comfortably win. Then you realise the presenter/reporter are Chavski fans (Matterface, Cundy etc on Talks**te).

Cundy is a T''T and thats that. Oh well it doesn't matter what they say cause its all in hope and they'll be very upset this afternoon and more so when barca destroy the pastic banner club !

14 Apr 2012 07:30:15
If John Henry has gone home to watch the Red Sox, what was the rush to come over to Liverpool and sack Commoli on Wednesday night/Thursday morning just a couple of days before the semi final? It could have waited til next week. There is something strange about this. Something we don't know. Something to break in the Sunday newspapers perhaps

It was a scare tactic to show how ruthless they can be. This might get a few players to buck up their ideas. I think it's good what they have done, things weren't going right and they have acted upon it. It was never going to be daglish due to the backlash they would get from the fans

More conspiracy? Perhaps we've signed Neymar as our new player/coach?

14 Apr 2012 07:25:11
dalglish should b sacked im sick of people saying give him another year why give him more time hodgson didnt get more time.just remember no 1 person is bigger than the club so start putting the club 1st instead of love for its wats rite for the club the hawk

Mr Dalglish is a true liverpool legend and has been for many many years where as Hodgson wasn't is that so hard to underdstand

Yawn, yawn

Mr Hawk, fly away and go support chelski.

1. Dalglish deserves more time as past achievements show that he can win titles. Hodgson never won anything of note, not even a league cup!

2. If we change manager every season we dont do as well as expected, we'll be wasting a lot of money on paying off the manager, playing staff etc and will never achieve our ambitions as the side won't be settled.

3. Patience is required to build a winning team. I't doesn't happen overnight.
Kenny's side have only shown glimpses of what they are capable of but when they have, they have taken some of the best clubs in the league apart.

Billfaethetoun

FA semi today lad. Not the time to start slagging Kenny again. Lets get behind the team.

The hawk..one question...are you stupid? your are comparing hodgson with king kenny..what actualy hodgson did to liverpool when he was incharge? he slated his own player, condemned the supporters, n we constantly played one of the worst football in our history..n what daglish did?? changed the style of game, brought unity together...remember what agger said about hodgson?so shut the gap n support the team n the manager..if not piss off! sick n tired of ppl telling tht they supporting lfc but slating the guy who is trying to bring the club up!! So it looks like the Cruyff rumour was well off the mark according to reports this morning. This could turn into a shambles. Firstly big well known names are leaked. But finally we end up with someone ridiculous. Someone unacceptable chosen by people who know little about European football. Someone like a Christian Gross.

LIVERPOOL FC has submitted plans to the city council to display two video screens inside Anfield stadium.

Great Idea.

The screens, which would be positioned at either ends of the upper Centenary stand, will provide live coverage of Liverpool matches as they happen. They will provide half-time entertainment, show advertisements and also provide information about the teams to attending spectators. Make the stadium more American

I hope they introduce cheer leaders, fireworks and maybe a monster truck at half-time show.lol

Why the sly dig at the end?

screens are useful.

Would be sweet to see some hot cheerleaders dancing around on the sidelines in red skirts and gerrard half-jerseys...

Cheer leaders would be fantastic

Ed,
I would like your opinion on this.

Gerrard has always wanted to play in Central Midfield.

But he has rarely been supported by his managers at Liverpool and England since 2004-05. Even McLaren played him at right. Capello shifted him to left.

The only exceptions have been Hodgson and Dalglish. Hodgson had to pay with his job. Dalglish, when without him from March to December last year did well. But once back he slotted him back in CM, all hell broke loose.

If we can see it, how come Kenny cant? Or does he love him too much?

As I have said earlier, he would be in my team but never in CM.

LiverBird {Ed001's Note - I don't know, for me he is better on the right with his crossing, height to get on the end of crosses from the left and ability to belt it in from the edge of the box.}

Rafa got the best out of him.

He isnt as effective centrally

Rafa had him in his prime years, of course he was going to get the best out of him! Before that he was still maturing and since Kenny took over he's been injured most of the time.
Ludicrous statement!
KiwiRed

I think Gerrard plays best behind a striker, not on the wing (where his lack of speed makes him less effective) or in central midfield, where he has to do too much defending. Alonso was made for central midfield......people forget that Alonso's ability let Gerrard roam and exploit defenses.

Pleas Please post this , its from theanfieldwrap.com

LIVERPOOL'S TWO WORST ENEMIES “ CONTEXT AND EXPECTATION

The apparent disintegration of Liverpool's 2011/12 season and the club's seemingly rapid and dramatic shift from ˜top four contender' to ˜just a cup team' has been vociferously and bathetically debated in pubs, TV studios and internet forums for the past three months.
With just 2 wins in 10 league games, the lowest goals to shots ratio in the division and with a midfielder in Lucas having made more tackles than any of his team mates “ despite being out injured since November “ the reasoning behind such arguments are both obvious and varied.
Bad luck in front of goal “ the Reds have hit the woodwork an amazing 27 times this season, Dalglish/Comolli's (*delete as appropriate depending on your understanding of the club's scouting procedure) poor buys in the transfer market and bizarre refereeing decisions have all been cited as evidence of why Liverpool's form hit such a sudden and season-altering reversal in January (the side had only two defeats by Christmas 2011 and had actually performed well up until that point), but what every argument, angle or personal pub-perspective has lacked so far is the one thing that sport in general, and football in particular, due to its immediacy and dynamic nature (a game altering goal can be scored in a split-second), rarely recognises; historical context.
As a sports historian I am often bemused by the lack of appreciation that underlying, prolonged and inveterate factors have when influencing pundits' and fan's views of a team's current situation.
When Liverpool last won the league title in 1990, the thought that Manchester United would win 12 in the next 21 years would have sounded preposterous to most Kopites. United had a young, inexperienced manager who, although he had broken the Old Firm monopoly in Scotland, was relatively unproven in the English top flight. Indeed, urban myth has us believe that he came within one FA cup tie of getting sacked in 1990. Slowly however, and then with a gathering pace, Alex Ferguson built one of the best sides the game had ever seen. Then he built another. And then another.
Whilst he was doing this, the ground United played in was expanded. And expanded. And expanded again. All the while mocking Liverpool fans asked similar questions “ ˜55,000 fans wont go to see United as they have hardly won anything,' they said in 1996. This was then revised to 60,000, then 70,000 as further ground developments took hold. Old Trafford's capacity now? 75,000
With Arsenal moving to a new purpose built stadium in 2006 “ capacity 60,000 “ Liverpool's lack of action on moving to a bigger ground “ just as the Premier League was starting and money flowed into the game like never before “ appears to be an omission of astonishing and monumental incompetence. Almost unbelievably the same issue continues to dog the club even now.
All this is of course is without comparisons on the playing side. Whilst United were building sides around Schmeichal, Giggs, Scholes and Roy Keane, and a strange, Professor-like Frenchman in North London was building his own dynasty around Seaman, Adams, Viera and Bergkamp, Graeme Souness was busy knocking down the boot-room in a vain attempt to drag Liverpool into the modern game “ whilst getting rid of players such as Peter Beardsley and buying ones of the calibre of Paul Stewart, Julian Dicks and Torben Piechnick.
The seeds of Liverpool's modern-day problems had been sown. The gap between the sides on and off the pitch “ which had seen Liverpool win 6 of the previous 11 league titles before the start of the Premier League “ was, in just a few seasons, not only narrowed, it was obliterated. By the start of the new millennium it was clear, Liverpool were the third best side in the division “ at best.
Context? Historical perspective? Supporters seldom think of these “ all they want is to win, even when their clearly inferior side is passing around a pound coin during games so that the player holding it last gets to buy a round of drinks after the 90 minutes are up.
In 2005 Roman Abramovich and Jose Mourinho pulled Chelsea up from the second place they had finished under Claudio Ranieri, into league champions and perennial Champions League semi-finalists via the not very small matter of spending hundreds of millions of pounds on transfers that made most eyes boggle “ and Kopites' weep. Overnight Liverpool's problems had been compounded further “ they were now the fourth best side in the league, at best.
Without the stability and vision offered by Wenger or Ferguson, and without the money on offer to United and Chelsea, the message to any Reds' manager was clear “ you cannot afford to make ANY errors in the transfer market, your signings “ cheaper and more obscure than the other ˜contenders' “ MUST work. Unfortunately for Gerard Houllier “ who had somehow managed to narrow the gap between Liverpool and the others courtesy of the treble winning season of 2000/01 “ his chance to do this came, and then went. The signings of Bruno Cheyrou, El Hadji Diouf and Salif Diao in the summer of 2002 effectively signalling the end to his Anfield career.
This then was the scenario Rafa Benitez inherited; the fourth best side in England, with less money than their main rivals, far less vision in terms of owners, and a playing side in desperate need of new personnel. It would have to take a tactical genius to win anything with this side? Wouldn't it?
Compounded by this refusal to acknowledge that acts, or just as important “ omissions, from months, years or even decades ago, can have a bearing on the functioning of the modern-day club, is another element, as equally difficult to explain or justify, that often blinds groups of supporters “ particularly former players working in the media“ from analysing any such scenario with logic; expectation.
Most of the criticism of Liverpool in general, and Dalglish in particular, has been the side's inability, despite spending millions of pounds on the likes of Andy Carroll, Stuart Downing, Jose Enrique and Charlie Adam, to finish in the top four this season “ thus missing out on the Champions League and the euromillions jackpot that goes with it.
For a lot of fans “ and presumably the owners “ it is qualification for this, more than the winning of trophies, that grates the most, as they see Liverpool's rightful place as being in a group of elite European sides that includes Real Madrid, AC Milan and Barcelona. That the Reds have defeated all of these sides at major stages of the premier European club competition in the past seven seasons “ culminating in not only the glory that was Istanbul in 2005 and their losing final appearance in Athens two years later but also being ranked the No. 1 side in the continent by UEFA's co-efficient ratings for three seasons running “ merely underlines their frustration.
Yet something is missing here. Analyse the facts again and we see that, apart from the three seasons that Benitez “ a La Liga and UEFA Cup winning manager before taking up the managerial post at Anfield “ dragged the Reds back to the halcyon days they had last enjoyed some 20 years earlier, and Houllier's treble winning side, Liverpool had performed pretty much as faded champions always do; a few top six finishes, sometimes lower “ much lower as was the case under Souness “ interspersed with the odd cup win here and there.
Indeed, in the two seasons before this one, Liverpool finished sixth and seventh, as disastrous decisions to fire Benitez (just a year after he had took the club to second place with just two defeats all season and unbeaten at home) and hire Roy Hodgson “ just one win in his first eight league games “ respectively, took their toll.
Immediately we can see a discrepancy between what fans expect “ and the evidence of recent history. Why should Liverpool finish in the top four when they hadn't done so for two seasons?
In that time “ while the Reds were almost imploding under the ownership circus that was Hicks and Gillett “ stability and sound spending in the transfer market by Tottenham Hotspur propelled them to fourth place (2009/10). A season later “ with Liverpool jumping from the circus to the courtroom “ Manchester City became the second English team, after Chelsea, to change the financial face of the sport “ finishing third in the process.
Can you see a pattern here?
What is important to remember “ and this is often where football fans display the contradistinction of being just that “ a supporter “ is that it is just as much factors outside a clubs control that ultimately influence their situations as any signings or managerial changes their own side makes.
To put this into perspective? No matter how much any English club spends on players, none can compete with the financial pulling power of Manchester City.
Of course, having the ability to lure the best players in the world to the blue half of a wet and windy English provincial city doesn't necessarily mean that league titles are suddenly lining up to be won outside the City of Manchester Stadium, but look at the evidence available to us.
In the five seasons before they became ˜the richest club in the Premier League' (August 2008), Manchester City's league positions were 9th, 16th, 8th, 15th and 14th “ and they came within a few points of being relegated a number of times. Since the 2008/09 season however, they have finished 9th, 10th, 5th, 3rd and “ as is looking likely this season “ either runners-up or Champions.
Together with the best Premier League performers from the past 20 years “ Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal “ Manchester City, on current financial and playing levels, are streets ahead of Liverpool. Including Tottenham “ or Newcastle (who are at last experiencing the sort of stability off the pitch that they haven't enjoyed for almost four decades) “ Liverpool's attempt to make the top four this season depended on finishing above at least three of these sides. Likely? Or not?
And this in Dalglish's first full season at the helm, after he had to offload deadwood such as Paul Konchesty, Christian Poulsen and Joe Cole and after the club had been just hours away from folding as the ownership debacle descended to new depths. Context? Perspective? Expectations? Lets get real.
Whilst we all want to see Liverpool back on top of the league, to experience the famous European nights we have enjoyed in the past, and to play with a flowing, passing style that was once the envy of the world, to do so requires some abstract thought and some quantitative analysis.
Until the stadium issue is sorted and until the finances of the club are altered so that its net spend far outstrips the barely £40million they have spent in a season and a half under Dalglish, Liverpool will continue to struggle. To do otherwise or, as equally damaging, to do nothing, will only ensure that next season will look very similar to this one.
In one respect however, Liverpool can at least afford to not make a decision that would offer something like the stability currently enjoyed by our SIX other main rivals;- sacking a manager at this moment in time will, in my view, be as detrimental to the future well-being of the club as the indecision over a ground move or expansion was almost 25 years ago.
Realistically Dalglish and the new owners should be given time to narrow the gap between us and the other four or five sides that are above us. With more time, more money, and a bit more luck in front of goal “ and in transfer policy (always a gamble) “ I am confident we can make the top four again. After that, we need to rebuild again “ as City did from last season “ to mount a serious title challenge.

Im not even going to begin to read all that!

Can someone sum it up for me.

He's trying to say, Keep Kenny.

We are not so much distressed by the failure to finish in the top 4 - a failure that may well have historic roots - but by the way we have uniquely failed, shamed, embarrassed, defrauded and devalued the name and reputation of Liverpool FC with players who can't, won't or just don't understand -

The Secret Footballer: Moneyball works better at Stoke than Liverpool

The Moneyball philosophy first used by the Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane is the study of a set of underestimated statistics that are then used to find undervalued baseball players in the transfer market. Soccernomics, the football equivalent, is the analysis of a similar set of numbers used to give teams a competitive edge.

Damien Comolli, Liverpool's now departed director of football, was apparently first turned on to soccernomics by Arsène Wenger during their time together at Arsenal, and Comolli has used it with varying degrees of success (depending on whether you believe him or the managers he has worked for) ever since.

In an interview with France Football last year, Comolli said of Luis Suárez: "We turn enormously toward players who don't get injured. We also took into account the number of assists, his performances against the big teams, against the smaller clubs, in the European Cup and the difference between goals scored at home and away."

For most of us, those stats would be pretty obvious when signing a player. Perhaps a better example of soccernomics at work would be the recruitment of Liverpool's left-back José Enrique, another Comolli signing underpinned by impressive data.

When Liverpool failed in a bid for Gaël Clichy, it was reported that Comolli turned to José Enrique after discovering that his statistical figures were far more impressive than Liverpool's scouting report suggested. He was also much cheaper than Clichy in terms of the transfer fee and salary. What stood out about José Enrique, supposedly, was that he had one of the highest pass completions and entries into the final third; he could also be credited with having a direct hand in many of Newcastle's goals.

Personally, I have always found it difficult to get past the basic assumption that if a team have the best players then they will invariably win more often than not. But the stampede of elephants in the room today is that of a dozen Premier League teams who are so evenly matched that many of their games are settled on set pieces or carefully choreographed training-ground routines in which meticulous preparation and statistical analysis can be the difference.

In open play, a huge amount of study, from my own experience at clubs, is devoted to the calculation of what are described as final third entries, penalty box entries and regains of the ball in the final third (see the pressing game of Barcelona and, to an extent, Manchester United).

Stoke City's style is the most rudimentary example of soccernomics on a football pitch. Each full-back generally looks for Peter Crouch on an angle (final third entry) and, in turn, the striker will attempt to cushion the ball down into the penalty area (penalty box entry) for his partner or a midfield runner. It goes almost without saying that the higher these two statistics are over a season, the more likely Stoke are to end up with a shot on goal.

Add to that Rory Delap's long throws and the team's height, which they seek to exploit on set plays, and it is no surprise that Stoke score many of their goals in and around the six-yard box, where they have a succession of players making individually tailored runs, as was the case at Villa Park on Monday night, when Robert Huth headed home Jermaine Pennant's free-kick.

Where the success of soccernomics is concerned, Stoke are a great example of the match-up that is required between a set of tactics and the players who have the attributes to execute them to the fullest.

A friend in the game told me that at Bolton, Sam Allardyce studied hundreds of Premier League corners to see where the clearing header, on average, would land. Once he identified a pattern (it's usually a front-post header that is cleared towards the dugout), he placed a man on the exact spot where the ball generally made its first contact with the pitch; thus, the odds of Bolton conceding a goal from the second phase of play were severely reduced.

Years ago, at my first club, the manager would spend hours coming up with set plays that he would go through with us on the training pitch. One role that is nearly always taken up at every level of the game is the "position of maximum opportunity", or pomo. The pomo is the space inhabited by a striker, usually after pulling away from the goalkeeper after a corner is taken. It is the space in between the six-yard line and the back post and is important because a high percentage of headers won by the attacking team are flicked towards this area. God forbid if one of our forwards weren't there. "That is the difference between you becoming a millionaire and spending the rest of your career at the Dog and Duck!" he used to scream if someone went awol.

As for Comolli, the transfers of Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam will probably tarnish his reputation for a little while yet, although it is easy to overlook some very important variables (notwithstanding the fact that all four may yet come good for Liverpool).

First, football is not a matter of one pitcher trying to outfox one batter. It is a team game and no amount of statistics can legislate for two players that can't stand to be in the same room as each other, no matter how many final third entries they've made in the past two seasons. Second, while we have transfer windows, "value" will always be a subjective term. Carroll could have had amazing statistics but, with Liverpool's bank balance swollen from the sale of Fernando Torres, their being in desperate need of a striker and the transfer window ticking down, his price was always going to be skewed.

It is a shame for Liverpool because soccernomics certainly has a role to play. But facts are facts and, for a man seemingly obsessed with numbers, the uncomfortable stats are there for everyone to see: Liverpool are 33 points behind Manchester United, £120m worse off and eighth in the Premier League. But using his system, I bet Comolli could disprove all of that.

Great post, shame there was no name... {Ed001's Note - it's an article from the Guardian.}

I just thought it was a great article in the guardian. But the question of soccernomics can only be applied to a football team once you know how you want them to play. If it is result based, functional play. Then stoke do it very well.

It seems to me that Kenny D must know how he wants his players to perform. So the transfer season coming up will become more important as scouts now have to find the kind of player to make the tactics work. So how you want corners to come in. The right winger players that are able to get crosses in, pllay for free-kick fouls or get free kicks from around the box.

We can't expect to win games from open play. So we should be looking to stack the deck in our benefit when it comes to free-kicks, corners, pens,

Man utd buy a lot of wingers, they like good wingers at the club because its the difference between winning and losing a game. They'll bombard the box with crosses until they get a result towards the end of games.

Numbers must play a bigger part of player recruitment than scouts opinions. Esp if where looking to get young players in.

United dont press high they drop off and let you have athletic Bilbao are the best pressing team in the world in my opinion barca close second

I love when Liverpool press high and think Munian would be brilliant at that plus that is Suarez must underrated attribute his ability to steal the ball off defenders in their own half
