Hey can any of you Canadian reds tell me what channel(s) the games are shown on? Having recently moved out here I have no idea and don't trust Telus or whoever to have any either. I live in BC if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.
CQ

If you are on Shaw i believe its 22 and 54 that either way its on Rodgers sports net and TSN if you get ESPN there are some games on there i believe . Failing that watch on the internet .

Buck Rodgers

Sportsnet Canada and TSN channels mate, should be broadcast on any of the major networks from Rodgers, Telus, Shaw, etc. Sportsnet Canada has gone up to about $20/month with Telus but not too sure. It's an additional pack you'll have to pay for on top of any package deal with any of the networks. I moved to Alberta a few years ago so not sure if it affects BC but I don't think it will at all, much the same really.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Rogers Sportsnet, Sportsnet One, Sportsnet World ( Used to be Setanta ) and TSN2. Gol TV shows Spanish games. None of them are with basic cable except Rogers Sportsnet!

You have to get cable called Rodgers.
Then order the sports pack make sure it has the sports net channels 401 up to 410 an sports net world is channel 429 get that it shows 3 live games every Saturday an Sunday an then it shows all the other EPL games on it after. Liverpool is one of these channels Saturday morning 10am my time. 7am your time. Hope this helps.
Welcome to Canada YNWA

EPL games are on TSN, Sportsnet, and Sportsnet World (formerly Setanta). Europa League are on TLN. League Cup and FA Cup are primarily on Sportsnet World, I believe some of the later rounds might be picked up on TSN and Sportsnet. TSN and Sportsnet are in most basic packages with satellite or cable providers, imo Sportsnet World is the best footy channel available in Canada but is considered a specialty channel and is fairly expensive. Some games won't be available on tv so be prepared to stream a couple. Hope that helps.

Ive just moved to Saskatchewan from Liverpool and I get TSN and RSO sports channels show live games early Saturday but not Sundays. Fox sports in America and Setanta also show the games but depends who youre hooked up with regards, Digsey

I live in Alberta and see most games shown on one of the Sportsnet channels, also TSN will show the odd game every now and then. Hope that helps a bit

Alberta red

I watch the games on Sportsnet World (used to be Setanta Sports Canada). TSN will also show a weekly game at about 7am* on Saturday (I watch only Liverpool games at that time). Coverage starts at about 10 on SNW. The other SN channels will also show games but these tend to be the least sexy teams *cough Stoke-Wigan-WBA-NUFC cough* There's also two games every Sunday at 7 and 11 as well as delayed coverage throughout the day and week on SNW. SNW is a channel you have to get seperately. It costs about $13 per month. You have to be really unlucky not to have a live Liverpool on a given weekend, but it happens more often since we have lost ground on the top 4 teams. The other channels are all part of packages. I'm with Bell by the way. Have a good season, mate.

Canadian Fan

P.S. times are all Eastern...so go to bed early or not until after the game

Good luck in canada , ynwa

Thanks to everyone for the responses! Very much appreciated.

Llorente, Van Persie, Yann M'Villa, Hazard, Moura, Hulk and our own Agger linked or gone to our competitors and we look at loans, Swansea players, and Arsenal caset-offs. Are our finances truly that bad that we can't compete with the teams above us. I don't go along with the Champions League excuse, if you pay them they will come.

Just because Chelsea buy X, Y & Z and Arsenal buy A B C doesn't mean it's the perfect formula. Look in depth Liverpool squad this season and style of play looks sharper and I am convinced we will prove critics wrong. Wombat

I keep saying it makes absolute perfect financial sense after what happened last year. The owners want to see us improve our position and I have no doubt at all that as we progress they will support the manager financially!

KD made big improvements when he took over and he got massive financial backing and they will do it again if (and when) BR does the same!

Stop worrying just enjoy the football we're gonna play this year!

Irish Al

''Llorente, Van Persie, Yann M'Villa, Hazard, Moura, Hulk and our own Agger linked or gone to our competitors''

Out of all these only Hazard has happened the rest is just speculation and rumour, so your entire post is just rediculous!

MR EM

Only one of the 7 players you list have gone to anybody and they have paid way over what he is worth. Pretty rubbish post really.
Red Derry

Funny, I've never seen any of those players go anywhere

You cant pay them huge wages if the club cannot generate the income to pay those wages. If we have champions league football we will get more money and can then pay higher wages but until then we need to run the club properly.

We dont want to end up like a rangers or a portsmouth. Be patience and our time will come, we have alot of promising youngsters and their time will come within the next few seasons. With BR at the helm there are exciting times ahead!
MO

Buh buh buh buh buh buh buh.
see what i did there.
i just typed something more constructive than you.
derryred

You have to have the money to pay them first. Why is that so difficult to understand?

Do you not realise that without funds from Champions League and the League position we lost 30+ million, the owners have already spent 100 million they are not a bottomless pitt but are now looking to spend more wisely with BR than they did with KK.

This is the best transfer window I can remember.

ed if we get this sahin lad that will be some deal in fairness, when dortmund won the lge 2 seasons ago he was their best player ,with allen and him it will free up gerard to just pick balls around the final 3rd n lessen the work rate for him, this guy could be the signing of the season, are we heading the race ?? how much is sahin on? plus agger must stay, best footballing cb in europe
5gold stars {Ed049's Note - It pretty much looks like we'll sign him on loan}

Agger is going 100% - Shelvey and Spearing not good enough and will be loaned out or sold if possible - Cole will also go if offers come in - Carroll not good enough and awiting any improved offers - Adam on way to Fulham in Dempsey deal - Sahin and Tello sorted by weekend and Godin in by the end of the transfer lockdown - Johnson possibility of part of Agger deal if figures fall in favour of LFC PLUS ONE OTHER SURPRISE PACKAGE OF WHICH I WILL REVEAL OVER THE WEEKEND - Scouse Pie

We will try to make sahin and tello permanent transfers which shouldn't be an issue.

14 Aug 2012 21:26:54
Just seen the Sahin clip on youtube. This guys left foot makes charlie adam look cripple. See alot of Xabi Alonso in his vision and passing ability. He may perhaps be cover for both Allen and Lucas' positions.... Makes on think what poor Henderson must be thinking, though if he improves his defensive game he can be long term cover for Lucas. Can't really see him playing elsewhere the way this team is being developed...
YNWA The Pirate

Im sure we'll see alot of henderson in the near future.

Henderson is going nowhere -and will be a part of Liverpool for the next decade - Scouse Pie

He is xabi alonso 2.0. He would be a massive coup and the most exciting signing since Suarez.

I think BR will play rotation, from my view i thnk he must really like our midfield, Sahin is coming and Adam might be going, Spearing too. that leaves

Gerrard, Shelvey, Henderson, Allen, Lucas, Sahin.

been years since we have this much quality in our midfield. everyone will get game time i believe.

Evening eds fellow reds, just heard standard chartered bank to pay £384 million fine because of Iran fiddle .that will give us a good name then NOT.cheers psv

And some people thought that Suarez would be moved on by the owners because the Evra affair was thought to have upset our main sponsor ... yes the one and same - Standard Charter!

How is any of that liverpool football clubs fault! Standard chartered look bad n i hear we are already in search of a new shirt sponsor already! Jd sports are leading the chase! Just thought i would share that info if anyone interested!
HARDY1892 YNWA

That is absolutely nothing to them, they made what £160 billion from Iran and only have to pay that, small change

And they had the neck to complain about Suarez.

The Squirrel

Not many Banks out there with a great name at present are their!!!

It's standard chartered paying the fine not Liverpool football club! They sponsor us we can't control everything they do!

New Agger Song (If he stays) - To "Do The Hokey Pokey"

Do The Danny Agger!

He wants to stay with us,
He left no doubt,
Tattoo on his knuckles,
That's what it's all about

Turned down Manchester City,
Cause he loves the club
And that's what it's all about!

Oh Danny Danny Agger,
Oh Danny Danny Agger,
Oh Danny Danny Agger,

Cause that's what it's all about - bout bout!

StrabaneRed

Good effort but im going to pass on this one

That's actually pretty good but we need anfield to be a fortress. Does a crowd singing the hockey pockey sound intimidating?

Hate to say it mate but i really cant see this one taking off,but ill pass it on to pete waterman.Ra Ra Ra.

Anfield would sound like a giant Primary school disco

cozinoz

Good point. It doesn't sound intimidating, but it sends out a message to City that we aren't pushovers, like Arsenal have been recently.

Also someone made a fantastic post earlier about football being a business and that loyalty doesn't get rewarded these days.

Well I just thought it would show Agger our appreciation and acknowledgement of his love and loyalty for the club. And with City early on at home.....

No biggie though. I enjoyed writing and reading it.

dont think agger will go till after we have played man city at home 26 august . the reason he may make liverpool players lose focus on the game same as fans . deal will be done after city game.

Some things to be changed in football:
(1) Deadline for Transfers should be before the start of season.
(2) No January window.
(3) No loan deals for players over 22. Either you play for us or you don,t.

Thanx

I Can Only Are With (1)

What a rubbish idea, what if you have horrific injuries in december and need to add more players to your squad

No, no and no. Just no

I love the January window plus who dosent love a good loan deal. Seasons start at different times so it would be ark ward to do deals if you can't replace.

Which season? Spain, UK, Russia, Sweden - all have different start and end dates so how you resolve that dilemma?

I think we should go back to how it was with incomming players inelible for cup games after March and last 8 matches of any season.

14 Aug 2012 19:59:48
hi eds is it true what Guillem Balague is saying about Tello and Sahin are close to signing for the club and do you think that they'll be on permanent deals or do you think that they'll be loan deals. I personal think that they would be the perfect players as they are both technical players and have both worked in similar and especially Tello coming from Barca {Ed049's Note - see the earlier answers mate}

Loyalty is a rare commodity in football, but how much is it worth?

Is it worth keeping a player for sentimental value? When there are, factually speaking, better players asking for better wages at better values.

There was no sentiment for Carroll when Newcastle sold him for £35m, and the money was shrewdly and sagaciously reinvested to better the team. Would Newcastle buy him back? Yes, but only for the right valuation just like any other player. Not because he is a Geordie, but because they are in a position to buy him for the correct price for a vacant position.

Taking the leaf out of their book, if a substantial offer comes in for ANY player, it must be considered regardless of who it is. It's truly unfortunate that football has come to this, as loyalty is not repaid as well as it ought to be. Loyalty is both rare and beautiful, but it has no place in any line of business, and football is no exception anymore. Case in point, Dalglish. Love the bloke, but he failed his objectives and he had to go. As a business decision, disregarding sentiments, it was the logical decision. Loyalty often clouds the better judgement. Hand on heart, just like a poster said earlier, if City offered £100m for Gerrard, I'd take it. How could you not? And I don't think Gerrard would blame me either. It's irrelevant since that scenario will never happen though. If they cough up £30m for Agger, then shake hands, take the cash and part ways. He loves the club, and I love him as a player, but that isn't the point in question.

Unfortunately, success in business is built on financial investment and not on affection or passion for a club. Did John Henry love the club when he bought it out? No, he saw a space in the market, business investment and business opportunity. Blind facts. And that is a fact, not necessarily my opinion. I am of the opinion that loyalty should make more of an impact, but it doesn't. Rarely does it count for much. Gerrard pulling us from the dirt against Olympiakos and West Ham are the few examples of raw passion I can think of, from ANY club (since we aren't the only club with sentiments), that made any substantial difference. But that is also down to a combination of composure, experience and world class talent. It will not transform Jay Spearing into Xavi, as much as we pray and as much as his heart beats for the club. It won't make Carra's legs any more mobile. It will not make Dalglish's second spell at the club any less sore for the eyes. It wont suck the ball into the kop end goal. If you wish to see Liverpool Football Club prosper and win trophies, then we do as every other club has done and accept the fact that it is now a greedy, money-minded business and we must set aside our sentiments as football is not the same as the glory days. Passion counts for little, and if anything, gives excuse to average performances - queue the "at least he plays for the badge" calls.

As I say, and will pressurise this point, I wish loyalty was more rewarding, I really really do. But it simply isn't. Case in point, Van Persie could have won a tonne of trophies elsewhere, but what has his loyalty towards Arsenal won him in recent times aside from an Emirates Cup Medal? Case in point, Jay Spearing's passion is second to none but he would never get a sight into any other top 10 club. Not being rude, and there is no need to hurl insults at the poor lad for the record, but that is the truth. Compare this to the contrast to the mercenaries of City. I am proud of our ethos as a club, but it is time to move with the times. This is the sad truth of football... {Ed049's Note - brilliant post}

Agree 100%, our supporters are like the last of the mohicans. A dying breed. Passionate and die hard beyond belief. Loyal... But sometimes one is blinded by loyalty. In this day and age parts are not repaired with a soldering iron, they are just replaced.. Our fans should always hold onto that old school loyalty. That is what makes us the greatest fans in the world. But our club needs to evolve, develop and move with the times. Lets support that..These are the days of HD and 3D. Those black and white days are over.
YNWA The Pirate

I might copy and paste this for my dissertation proposal! a two sided, well worded and well structured post! was a pleasure to read and I totally agree with what your saying.

Should have left your name or something mate, Amazing post!
Ruben

Yes - brilliant post - would concur with this 100% but not able to express my sentiments as well. I would like to see those who would not accept 30m for Agger articulate a reason why and do so based on the player's ability, age, injury record and exclude the sentiment.

I unfortunately agree with your post, and it's a sad, sad time. It is also ironic that the unloyal commercial business that is football, is 100% dependant on OUR loyalty. If the fans had no loyalty, they wouldn't have a business. I hoped that our great club, with massive ties into the community which it sits could retain some of its 'old fassioned values' and stand apart from all of the other commercially driven clubs, but I don't think they can, or will.

Realy solid post but I cannot agree however realistic it may be. We are constantly being told that money is everything we must buy.and consume and where's it got us ****in nowhere.if we have given up on our sense of community as liverpool supporters then we have truly missed the point its about hope family not money realistic or not if that goes then **** it why bother Liverpool is about people who have nothing building something world class yes we want to win but not at any. Cost
Kiss the badge YNWA

This post seemed to target Carragher more than Agger...

Kaizer

All good things end.

Exactly what I have been saying, well not exactly, you put it so much better
John Wigan

I agree to a point loyalty is not rewarded, Torres left and bagged the very trophy which he wanted so it seems people get what they want when they aren't loyal.

In agger case I argue that it doesn't benefit Liverpool enough to sell. Yes we will have 20 plus million, but who is available that's a good replacement that wants to wait at least 3 years before winning a title? Nobody. The reason city want agger is because he is the best available centreback in football. Neither godin nor amorebieta are good enough and both will take a full season to settle in English football. Foreign defenders are notoriously poor in their first year in English footy and given Reina form over last two years that means we will be the brand new pop tribute act ... goals allowed.

You sell players when you benefit the most from the sale, not a day sooner.

Nevada

Lol, where a top 10 club now. lol how fans have lowered their expectations.

Furthermore with Agger only playing half possible games per season on average his 90k salary actually becomes 180k per game.

If we dont sell we won't be able to buy the ikes of Cavani or pay his salary.

If Agger really is loyal to lfc he will accept a pay as you play of 120k per week max.

Great post, good read and absolutely bang on my freind, wish you had signed you're post though..

STEVE

RED4LIFE

I do agree with this post however i thought the football we played under Dalglish was pretty easy on the eye, but i'll not get into that.
i do think we should keep spearing though because who do we replace him with ? what footballer will be content to be a 6th choice midfielder without an enormous pay check ?
as soon as suso, coady or adorjan are ready then sure move him out but for now keep him.
i would also like to keep agger (not because of the knuckle thing) unless a ridiculous offer is made lets say 27+ million. he is quality and i don't know who we can replace him with who won't require huge wages and a huge transfer fee. i would love to give coates a chance but he will make mistakes causing people to slate him and rodgers.
i'm just giving my view.
your post is spot on.
derryred

Excellent post. Why didn't you leave a name mate?

AG

Cold hearted b******, the moral of the monologue is if city and chelsea are plastic lets be plastic too for the sake of success. There,s a big difference between creating a piece of art and buying a piece of art. Gerrard is our creation, so will be Suso, so will be Stirling - I,d tell city straight off to do one with their 100 million.

I agree that this is the trend ..but will you like our club to follow this trend and win trophies ?

If so, sad we got some american owner ..wish some russian or saudi owner should've bought our club.

who would've brought a top top manager and handed him kitty to buy any player he likes irrespective of 'necessity'

and if manager doesn't deliver in just 1 season lets sack that manager and get a new one

Why need an academy ? .. Stupid consumption of funds when we can buy top talent and win trophies..

Lets butter up to FA too so that we get referees who'll give decision in our favor and win titles ..

we may not have players who left the club but still has affection for our club in their heart ... what's the use of that in modern world?

We'll get more plastic fans and in such a huge number that we'll be very proud of our club

wait a sec ...we haven't been doing that .. we've been without title for 2 decades now..but I'm still proud of our club!

Is something wrong with me?

Tello has one year left on his contract and despite this according to many on here Barca will loan him out to us…. WTF! Reality Red

Barca are currently trying to agree a contract extension with Tello. He is not in their immediate plans but his talent is plain for all to see, and they want to keep him on their books and monitor his progression. If he agrees he will be loaned out. If not he will be sold.... its not that difficult to understand

I think theres an outside chance were actually going to sign him.
Sahin could be the loan, although with Lucas and Allen there I'm not sure where he will play. Maybe the Ed's have an idea on that one?

14 Aug 2012 19:34:24
what is it with lfc and owners. we need to get shot of the owners they nothing about football and they dont have a clue. i know what your going to say they saved are club and yes you are right. they did save us but so would of someone else. they have put money in but now they are going to try and get it back by starting to sell are best players. some of you may think the sun shines out of there a55 but already they have broke a promise and what you may ask well wheres the new ground that was part of selling the club to them. they treat people like sh*t and think the fans dont have a clue. how wrong are they. there true colours will show soon and once again the club and fans will suffer. {Ed049's Note - calm down mate}

Part of the deal did not include any agreements to build a new ground, they simply picked up where H&G left off and had a re-think.

Take the Ed`s advice, and calm down mate. FSG are doing better than a lot of people think.
Piddy.

Mate what you expect when we sold our club to another yanks let's be honest they are not russian or arabs they will never and I mean never throw money. Every single penny which they will use will be recouped you or I or fans like it or not. American people don't have passion for football and as far as I know people who buy football clubs are very very rich and want to make their name(famous) business in football is very very dangerous coz 80% of clubs in europe are losing money so I'm not sure how it works as business and maintain your position in higjest level
These are clubs who are playing in highest level and still losing money

Realmadrid
Barcelona
Chelsea
Man city
Man united
Bayern munich
Intermilan
Only arsenal are making profits but haven't won trophys for 7/8 years and that is coz of wenger or they wouldn't finish in top4

Are you for real mate , I think the owners are doing a great job backing br the players we look like signing wether buying or on loan are quality & this looks like being the best transfer window in a long time , also they are not selling our best players didn't suarez sign a new contract last week yes they may sell agger which would be sad to see but I think if we had an offer in the region of 20-25 mill with his injury record then that's good business & the owners are dealing with the stadium issue which will probably be a refurbished anfield which I & most fans would prefer rather than a new stadium but these things take time & from what I've heard they are dealing with a very awkward council .... Steve

These owners have more experience of building successful sports teams than you or I do mate!

I find it amazing that on the one hand people on here absolutely crucify the owners for wasting money last summer and then crucify them again this summer for being sensibly cautious!

These owners literally saved our club and are putting a long term viable strategy in place to make us successful again but dooming it on a financially sound basis.

The Chelsea's and Man City's of this world have blurred the reality of football as a business and it amazes me the amount of people who cannot see how ridiculous it is.

People want us buying hazard, hulk etc but cannot see that we have done massively well to sign up Suarez and with Lucas coming back and the fantastic progress that sterling is making at 17...these 3 things will prove more beneficial to our season than any new signing we make this summer.

Irish Al

Leave your name so we can check to see where you're offer was to save our club. they are more than qualified and i don't want them to spend for the sake of it.
derryred

Bayern and Barcelona both made profits last season and Real Madrid have done recently, get your facts right.

You guys don't have a clue! how much have FSG invested in Liverpool? from my understanding and I don't have the exact figures 150 million so far they may not have the passion of a Liverpool fan but they know how to build successful sporting businesses let them get on with it and get off their backs.....

rodgers tells agger he really wants him in his plans , agger tells him he wants to stay. he tells the fans he doesnt want to leave, so please fsg, keep hold of him. loyalty is very rare in football and he is loyal, he wants to stay and fight to get us back were we all want to be , champions league and challengeing for titles were has he could probably double his money, play champions league and more than likely win it in the coming seasons aswell as winning titles. the fans want players who want to put the red shirt on and agger is one of them. we no the money could help us improve the squad but without naming players we have at least half a dozen who need to be let go before we sell him. what do people think including you ed.

Very very right! We won't win anything without our best player's! And Danny is one of them! Why do you think that City are looking to pay nearly 30mil for him! Please don't sell him FSG!

Ed005 where are you from and what is your name? {Ed005's Note - I am from a place that begins with P and ends in E - with a V in the middle. My name begins with J and ends in N. My second name begins with E and ends in S. I have black hair. John Kelly you know who it is.}

Currently I expect the trio of Lucas, Allen and Gerrard to play as the three midfielders in the starting line up, however if we do get Sahin on loan which looks increasingly likely I do think he will want first team assurances, do you think we could change the formation to include a false no.9 in the shape of Gerrard with Suarez and Borini being the other two forwards hence allowing Sahin to play as the attacking role Gerrard would have.

Cheers,
Hassan

Sahin is not really an attacking mid, he cant get into reals side because of Alonso. Which also demonstrates how daft people are saying he is coming back.

That's what we're gonna do mate andyIrl

Fabio Borini - COST

On 31 August 2011, Borini signed for Italian club Roma on loan for €1.25m (£1.09m) , with an option to buy for €7m (£6.1m) AS Roma bought 50% of Borini for €2.3m (£1.92m) in January 2011. They bought the other 50% for €5.3m (£4.27m) in a blind auction on 23rd June 2012, which made the total cost of purchase to Roma as €7.6m (£6.19m) He made 26 appearances for Roma scoring 10 goals.

The fee agreed between Liverpool and AS Roma was €13.3m (£10.5m) with an additional €1m (£780k) related to potential add-ons. No detail has been provided relating to the add-ons. Based on the previous contract between Roma and Liverpool when Aquilani was purchased this most likely relates to number of appearances as well as win bonusus. However including the add-ons takes the maximum cost to €14.3m or £11.28m.

Its worth noting that Roma made a profit of €5.7m (£4.5m) without including any of the extra add-ons of €1m (£780k)

Contract Length and Wages

In terms of contract length I would imagine that the contract is for a period of five years. This is the maximum allowable contract length under FIFA regulations and makes the most sense from both Liverpool and the player's point of view. Also both of the contracts with Roma and Parma were five year contracts. People might worry that Liverpool might find themselves in a similar situation to Aquilani's (an Italian who wants to play in Italy). However the crucial difference is that Borini has already spent 4 years in England between the ages of 16 and 20 so he knows what the situation entails in terms of being away from home/living in the UK and I would have no real concerns on that front.

Roma disclosed in their financial reporting the details of the gross payments that were to be paid to Borini relating to the initial option. They were as follows

2011/2012 season - €1m
2012/2013 season - €2.3m
2013/2014 season - €2.7m
2014/2015 season - €3.1m
2015/2016 season - €3.4m

This is a total of €12.5m over the five years of the contract which works out as an average weekly wage of €48,077. This was a gross figure so any tax/pension contributions would have to be taken off this. At current exchange rates €48,077 works out at £37,932. As such I would imagine this is the effective floor in terms of what kind of salary. Given the structure of the deal with Roma I would imagine that his weekly wage would be somewhere in the region of £50k per week. It's pretty much impossible for it to be much lower and similarly hard to see it being all that much higher. This would work out to a total of £13m.

From a financial point of view it would be interesting to know if the deal is stepped in a similar manner to the way Roma had the deal structured (wages increasing over the course of the contract) i.e

2012/2013 - £45,000 p.w. ; annual total of £2.34m
2013/2014 - £47,500 p.w. ; annual total of £2.47m
2014/2015 - £50,000 p.w. ; annual total of £2.60m
2015/2016 - £52,500 p.w. ; annual total of £2.73m
2016/2017 - £55,000 p.w. ; annual total of £2.86m

This would total to an effective average wage of £50k per week or £13m over the five years of the contract.

The advantages of this is that the highest wage are only paid in the last two year's of the contract. In effective the club defers paying £260,000 from the first year to the last year and defers £130,000 from the second year to the fourth. Besides the financing costs saved, it means that the club will only have to pay the maximum levels if the player stays for the full term of the contract. If the player is sold in the summer of 2014/2015 for instance the club would have paid a total of £7.41m or an average wage of £47,500. This would amount to a saving of £390,000 compared to a situation where there was a straight sum of £50k per week. It also puts the club in a stronger position if the player comes to them looking for a wage increase. For instances if the player's agent approaches the club in the summer of 14/15 looking for a pay rise the club can point to the contract and state that they are already getting increases. Compare this to a situation where the player was on £50k pw from day one and approaches the club in three year's time looking for a pay rise.

Financial Summary

Player cost £10.5m with potential add-ons of £780k
Five year contract on wages in the vicinity of £50k per week.

10.5m + 780k
2m sign on fee
13million wages
= 26,289,000

= Cost of a new striker with no proven goal scoring track record.

Aquaman Cost us =

£17 million plus sporting bonus.
£2m sign on fee
£22,336,000
= £41.336,000

I think lfc should stay clear of Italians.

Joe Allen

£15million
£2m sign on fee
£7m
= £24million

Luis Suerez: they triple his salery to 120k a week
He only signed a contract extension less than ayear ago from increased his wages to £40k a week. Now he is on 120k a week.

Keeping Suerez at the club has cost us another £20,800,000

Im sure kenny could of done a better job this summer.

Borini= 26,289,000
Joe Allen= £24million
Luis Suerez= £20,800,000
= three players have cost the club lose to £70million

You really need to get a life mate.

Derek

Kenny should still be there but Henry never wanted Kenny

And the things Ian Ayre has said about Kenny since his departure shows what a man he is.

Sorry , what is your point ?

Also , any chance of you learning to spell S U A R E Z ?

And your point is?

Stevie.

And what exactly is the point of this post

Kenny dalglish is a legend but he is not a great manager in today's game, I am confident that rogers will make better choices than Kenny did. Its not your money going to these players so just support the team

Sorry mate but Get a life or go and support a bank. I follow football not accounts ...
Red Derry {Ed049's Note - haha}

Please get a life

What are you on about? You need a bird.

Siggle

Do people read these posts?
Tommy. {Ed049's Note - I did}

So hypothetically if over the next five yrs we qualify for the champions league each year, win a cup or 2, win the champions league or premiership as a direct result of these signings how much would they have made us, you know as well as the rest of us that you have to pay wages etc to players, maybe you feel that they should volunteer their time to play for nothing. We pay what we feel we can to get the right type of players we need to succeed imo. How do you expect us to compete with the rest of big boys otherwise, Simonpw

That 70 million is what cost chelsea, man city, manu for one player....... hazard, probabley cost over a 100 mil, big fee, big wages. lets not forget torres. man city, the same. not to sure with manu's signings..... i dont really see your point.

football is a big buisiness....

when you look at it in perspective, liverpool's costs isnt as bad as you think.

wonder how much downing costs us, sure hes on about 45k/w.

Please deduct the wages Maxi and Kuyt were on and then we might know something about how much we'll save...Yes we did increase Suarez's wages but Allen and Borini together must be having wages half the value of the Maxi and Kuyt wages..And obviously the wages would be spent over the duration of the contract so the owners don't have to pay £70 million right now...the £70 million over 5 years it is still fine i think as all 3 players are relatively young...

Red PG

Why bother with the finances of the club? Leave that to the owners and just support the team for f**ks sake!

MR EM

That's How Football Works Genius . Every Club Goes Through It. Check The Man C & Chelsea's you will be amazed

You just BShi**ED your way through that.
Waffle on my friend, waffle on.
jonnybarnes89-90

Doesn't any business operate with profits and losses? You also add cost and salary over length of contract into one figure which you claim is a direct hit on the current budget. Also, Aquilani was already at the club collecting huge wages and not playing for us. So the 70 million figure is simply inaccurate in my opinion. Wait until the results are in before you draw a conclusion. If you do that, I won't mention Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Adam who are all likely to start on the bench this year. How much did they cost combined? What are their salaries going to be worth for the duration of their contracts and how much did their respective clubs profit from their sales? Kenny is a good man, a legend at the club and I respect him for it. What has Rodgers done to you? Or did I simply misunderstand your post?

Canadian Fan

And the end of the day, we needed to increase Suarez's wages to these levels otherwise he would have gone to Juventus, and would have almost certainly signalled the end of Agger, Skrtel, and possibly Reina at Liverpool. Allen was signed because if we didn't sign him, he would have gone to United, where he would become the next Paul Scholes I believe. As for Borini, well give him a chance, he may turn out to be a great bit of business. Imagine if he stayed at Roma and scored 20 goals this season- how much would Roma and Borini demand then?

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Like the others, I don't really understand your point either. I would hate to sit there and add up the lifetime (contractural) costs of Downing, Carroll, Henderson, and the others purchased under Kenny, but I can only imagine it would be a huge amount of money.

I dont even count my own money the way u do..

Kaizer

Wasn't suarez on 80k pw?

Allen's salary is 45k pw over 5 years which works out as £10,800,00m costing us £27,800,00m (which is more than Borini)

U may like kenny ok he is a great player. he is a good manager yes on his 1st trems no to his 2nd trems. he use big amount to buy few unproven player and that suffer Liverpool so much.

80k x 4 = £320k a month
320 x 12 = £3.84m a year
3.84 x 5 = £19.2m extra (you added £1.6m)

If you look at it, you'll see that liverpool are in a weaker financial position this season than they where last season. We have less player in a already small squad.

It doesn't take a genius to see the Luis has financial damaged the club this summer. If we going to be a in a position to pay 140k a week. Why wouldn't we get Sergio Aguero instead of Carroll.

The owners have truly damaged the club for years to come. We are going to turn into Southampton of the 1990's. matt le tissier syndrome, eg one flashy player to get the crowds in on huge wages, and the rest of the squad suffers.

If we spend the next few season like this, we will become a true mid-table team with a flashy player, that we end up leaving and then we will be nothing.

NOT a rumour but reading in the papers today that arsenal have invited Mo Farrer to their opening game, I do hope LFC invite WIGGO to a game after all the bloke was over the moon to get a text from Robbie Fowler. Come on LFC show supporters that you can do the right thing

I'm sure they have, but he does have other commitments, just because the Olympics are over it doesn't mean the cycling is over

Our marketing people should be all over this..... Get him on the pitch for a real ovation from the kop....
We could do with some good pr.....
And somebody please make sure Luis shakes his hand!

14 Aug 2012 18:54:13
regarding Ramirez (yes him again - will he ever go away?) the sticking point is not the price that Bologna are looking for - its his wages and signing on fee. If Spurs wont match what his agent is looking for then I really cant see us doing so given what happened with Sigurdson and maybe that's no bad thing.

Ramirez would be a big middle finger to spurs face. You got sigurdsoon, we got Ramirez. PUCK YOU

14 Aug 2012 18:52:05
Daniel Agger has a contract with Liverpool for the next 2 years. Surely he is entitled to refuse any transfer with which he is not happy. He says he wants to stay and I hope he does, refusing all attempts to cash in on him. His partnership with Skrtel is second to none.

14 Aug 2012 18:51:10
Dempsey £3m Plus Adam
Tello - Loan (he is going to sign a year extension with Barca) then decide if he wants a permanent move, Barco also doesn't want to loose him for nothing.
if not Tello then Nolito on loan
Sahin loan
Walcott £16m
= £19m

Funded by the sale of Carroll, Bellamy & Kuyt also Adam being part of Dempsey deal.

we currently have 3 for the front line and BR wants 3 more to add depth and to use for rotation.

and in the middle we would have 7

gerrard, lucas, allen, sahin, shelvey, henderson, spearing. All can play CM and BR would trust just Gerrard and Sahin to play AM.

RVP 20 million in the last year of his contract Walcott 12 million in the last year of his contract.

14 Aug 2012 18:40:25
On the 1st September 2011 I had this feeling that since the previous January we had spent a lot of money with little of it wisely (Suarez and Enrique excepted and Bellamy free). I didnt want to admit it to myself as I didnt want to believe that KK could get it so wrong.

I have a feeling that come the 1st September 2012 I won't be feeling like that. BR seems to be targeting the right type of player and is brave enough to say no if price/wages is too high (Sigurdson). Whether we like it or not you also have to admire his bravery in willing to sell the likes of Agger if a silly bid is made.

I think we will be much closer to 4th this season if we get the likes of Tello, Sahin and Dempsey.

14 Aug 2012 18:48:20
Sahin on loan. Then tello is first choice winger, on loan or permenant transfer. Adam Johnson 2nd choice winger and Walcott 3rd choice. Then if we shift Adam then it is likely Dempsey will sign., may take a while.

Gaston Ramirez = Juan Mata last season. As much as you want him he isn't coming

I really don't care if we get Ramirez or not and I honestly don't think Mata is all that great either. {Ed049's Note - Juan Mata is quality}

Mata is definitely quality

Kaizer

Juan mata would walk into our first team. Soo would gaston Ramirez. Allen and borini only made it because of BR. there is no denying this.

Silva is quality, Mata is just good. Different levels, in my opinion. Mata was pretty underwhelming the second half of last year.

14 Aug 2012 18:08:30
It's a hard call on Agger's situation. A potential 20M+ move, or the retention of one of the better CB's in Europe when fit. Each has their own argument, and ultimately, only hindsight will tell which decision was right. Personally, I would love Agger to stay. Our immediate aim must be CL qualification, apart from the kudos for attracting players, the extra revenue is essential to take LFC forward. Therefore, regardless of age and previous injuries, we must retain the players who give us the best chance to reach our goals....

Agger - stay Red, keep well.

JJ

I believe the personal wishes of the player who has 2 years left on his contract should be of paramount importance. Agger wants to stay and he deserves to stay. We paid six million for him and got a bargain. We should not now be trying to sell him for profit.
Arsenal want to keep their best player, but he wants to leave. We should attempt to keep our best players, especially when they don't want to leave.

According to Ramirez's agent, Gaston rejected a move to Tottenham because Spurs and Ramirez couldn't agree to wages. Ramirez's agent also said Liverpool and Ramirez have talked but nothing more.

Hi Ed's and fellow Reds. I have again today been speaking with my friend who plays for Fulham. Clint Dempsey has been told he has to train by himself in the afternoons by Jol. Clint has been told he will not be playing this week and may not even make the bench. Clint is desperate for the move to Liverpool and has asked Fulham to accept any bid Liverpool may offer. No bid, as of yet. Agents have been in dialogue. He has told Jol to accept a bid now as he will be worth less in Jan window. Fulham are really digging there heels in. Jol alienated Andrew Jonson and Bobby Zamora and they got their moves. He has now done the same to Clint. My friend does not expect Clint to play for Fulham again. Clints agent has told my friends agent that Clint WILL move this window. Expect it to be Liverpool, as long as Liverpool don't move onto another target. There are a few senior Fulham players with only 1 year left on their contracts and they will be looking for moves in Jan. Expect Fulham to struggle. I for one expect Clint to sign for Liverpool after my conversation today. Lee YNWA.

Hi Eds, I'm new here and I'm not sure if you only talks about transfer news? Actually I would like to know the situation of Pacheco and Suso... these 2 guys have quality and should fit Rodgers' system, why they are not being selected under Rodgers? (honestly i personally think that Pacheco is not worse than Tello...)

I thought Pacheco might get a look in after his performances in pre-season, but based on the Europa squads, he seems to be below both Cole and Sterling in the pecking order. And we potentially have more forwards (Tello, Dempsey, Walcott) coming in. Given that this season was supposed to be his last possible chance here, I suspect he may be moved on.

Suso will either be played in the reserves or better still loaned out. I'd like to have given him game time here, but there'll probably be 6 or 7 other centre mids here, so it might be best to let him get some game-time elsewhere. Definitely someone we should be hanging to long-term though.

evening ed's.. just wondered if Theo Walcott pulling out of the England squad had anything to do with a possible transfer, hopefully to us? I mean maybe whoever is trying to sign him wants him to sign before the first game of the premier league season as most players on international duty aren't back until I think Friday.. just a thought. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, cheers eds.

I've read a few posts on here b speaking about should we shouldn't we keep him our sell him. The reasons why some folk would get shut are well documented. John from Wigan. wrote a god post for why we should cut pour losses. For all the facts and figures about games missed by Agger in John's post and others.
They leave out what is the biggest commodity from a top player ,and I mean a top top echelon, cause that's exactly what Agger is. That's loyalty....In this day and age were most players want to earn as much as they can as quick as they can, Daniel Agger is a rare breed of a man we should be celebrating that he doesn't want all City's millions and doubtless trophys and success, but rather stay and fight and fight somemore for the team he loves, the City he adores. But most of all the fans who worship him like a God of Norse legend and we fan's know the feeling is mutual.
Jonson

We need agger come on owners say yes

Great post Jonson, mate.

Curtiss

Spearing is as loyal as they come and most people want rid of him.
Tommy.

This is the last I will say on this, because it has been done to death and obviously people have different views.
Firstly let me say I think he is a great player and if he could stay fit there would be no way I would say sell, but he cant as the stats show, and the money being offered could do more good than paying for his treatment when injured.
The point I would make is that even Agger has stated he would do what is best for the club, so by that I feel even he thinks the deal is too good to refuse.
I think only Citeh have bid for him and he has said he doesnt want to go, so he hasnt actually refused Barca yet! so if Barca did come in and he agrees to go, does this mean evryone who says he is loyal will change their minds?
I agree this is a better situation for us if he went there.
Last point honest, If he stays and gets a new bumper contract for say 5 years, and plays as much as he has in the last 5 years, will evryone agree that is value for money?
Last last point the Spearing thing I said, please to all you who responded , have a think about it, if you still feel the same about your comments I really do worry!!
John (over and out) Wigan

Tommy, its because Spearing isnt good enough.

I have not been having the greatest day today....until I came on here and saw this post~

14 Aug 2012 16:27:27
Eds is this true?
Agger in talks over new deal
Skrtel close to new deal
Ian Ayre in Spain regarding Tello and Sahin? If so how close are the deals?
And is there still interset in Dempsey? {Ed019's Note - Yes to all}

Best thing I've heard all day! Fantastic news!

K.Bennett

Owners please keep agger

If all that comes to fruition I will dance a jig. That would show some real initiative and put the wind up everyone else. It's going to be a good season

I think Agger has been in new contract talks for quite some time now and I don't think this a new development.

14 Aug 2012 17:30:35
Come on Reds, get Dempsey boxed off

14 Aug 2012 17:28:39
Hi eds and all,
My question is why dont we just bid for Kevin Mirrallas, the Belgin that plays for Olympiakos who is available and cheap is well at 8m Euros (£6m) rather than paying over the odds for Walcot who would likely be on a higher wage and is inconsistent.
Stevenge {Ed001's Note - because he is no longer available that cheap, his contract clause expired.}

Well that is just plain stupidity if a team goes for him now utter stupidity.

14 Aug 2012 17:25:44
Bring on the new season. What positions I think we need to strengthen in lb backup cb if agger goes cam if gerrard gets injured or since gerrard is getting older we could save him for the big games and play the cam in gerrards position a rw or lw not sure which and then I think we could seriously challenge for a top 4 place.

14 Aug 2012 17:17:34
If Sahin joins do you believe that will spell the end for Adam and his time will be up?

RedsMatt

God I hope so.

I think his time is up anyway... If he doesn't go to fulham as part of the dempsey deal I think we will sell him anyway.

G BOX

How many times has this been asked?!

I think charlie adam `s end is nigh regardless of whether we sign sahin or not

signing charlie adam was the first time i ever questioned the king, letting a good ball player in meireles go to accomodate him was the first really big error of his reign andhe basically lost alot of myfaith in him after that

tom1975

KK made more errors in that 1 full season as rafa did his whole time at lfc. Roy hodgson...well let's just say he had rafa saying I told you so and kenny on his case ever since he walked through the doors. Hicks and Gillette worst thing to happen to lfc. Thank god their old.

14 Aug 2012 17:16:15
Ok so agger is injury prone, alot of it unlucky ie broken ribs, but it may be all behind him now. Also their is a lots of players who are injury prone but are still class and play big parts for their team, you only have to look at Rio from united or Ledley King. My point is I'd rather have Daniel Agger for half a season then not at all

Marc {Ed001's Note - he has healing issues and that is never going to change.}

RVP is also injury prone....

Adam Johnson is going to the friggin blues ffs

No he is not, Everton cant afford his wages

Who cares, he ain't that much better than Downing and Sterling is a better prospect!

NS

Good he's just another Downing and has a bad attitude.

Scouser Tommy

He will fit in nicely there, wooden player playing in a wooden stadium

lolo

Look at the bright side well keep agger, city's way of getting back at us

About his level I think.
Never really rated him.

MIKEY

Grow up you child, so the Daily Fail have post a story saying Everton have first refusal maybe they do but that's no need to throw your toys out of the pram. Adam Johnson is a good player there's no doubting that but he desperately needs someone to slap him round the back of the head and tell him to concentrate more on the game rather than going out on the lash. And that's taking a huge leap of faith assuming what the Fail have said is true, i suppose if you talk enough rubbish some of it will be true sooner or later.

always a red

They're welcome to him overrated show pony with a lazy attitude

So what? Over-rated, poor attitude and lazy. Not remotely what BR would be looking for at this time.

Flagg

Good! We're better off without him! Bad attitude! Why do you think city are getting rid of him?

He s overated anyway

So the plus is agger will stay then.

No hes not hes comin to us

Doesn't that tell you all you need to know?

14 Aug 2012 16:57:52
Jay Spearing doesnt want to leave but we are trying to sell him! Doesnt loyalty mean anything these days!
I think we should start a protest, Yonks out Jay stays! Do you think it will catch on? Of course it will, evryone keeps harping on about how loyalty should be rewarded!
Hope everyone sees where I am coming from!
John Wigan

Doesnt ability come into it too,John?

I think a move away will benefit jay, hey what can I say! I don't think he should stay.

Square tomato

If I was on his wages playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world I'd want to stay too...sentiment should not get in the way of progress and Jay Spearing unfortunately does not offer an awful lot IMO.

Emlyn

So if he's not good enough keep him on the payroll?? Get real man seriously, think before you post... I'm sure Rodgers wants the best squad possible

Rocky

He doesn't want to leave the club because he will never play at this level again!

No coz a lot of Liverpool fans want spearing out coz hes crap...... Just not good enough pal

Craig

He isn't good enough. That's all that matters.

Wavertree red

It seems u have never seen spearing play. he is championship material at best. The sooner we get rid of him, the better.
Indian Buzzer

Unfortunately Jay isn't up to the standard of play that the club requires, its cruel on the lad but showing loyalty to a below standard player just for loyalties sakes will be detrimental on field.

Ned

What even if the player isn't good enough? Just because he is local and loyal doesn't mean he fits into the managers plans, last season is testament he is not quite up to the standard.....lovely lad tho!

CoolhandLFC

Bugger off lad, we'll never get back into the top 4 with players like spearing. I adore LFC as well, doesnt mean i should play for them.
Zeus Katz

Never mind jay spearing that wouldn bother me as he is not the level player that we need,we need better. but agger is a different story, one of the best cb in the pl and loves the club and yet were still willing to listen to offers.sad really.and he just got that tattoo on his knuckles.

eire red

Mr Henry ;), after reading this and other of your messages - it's nice that you've moved closer to the area but please stop trying to justify selling the icon that is Agger! If you'd moved a bit closer than Wigan maybe you would see that we (the fans) do not want to lose Danny to one of our main rivals for any ammount of money. We want to be strengthening our squad not theirs. Using your head you can always justify numbercrunching but we follow our heart and the effect of losing an iconic player has a terrible effect on our club (especially the relationship between the manager and fans). Please stop with all the messages trying to justify selling Danny so that we can buy lesser players. The board and manager has repeatedly told us that we have the funds and that we don't need to sell to buy and if we did why not sell a few of the lesser players to make the money rather than someone who 'gets' playing for Liverpool Football Club.

Yorkshire born, Scouse bred (with butter)

I have been to every single home and away premier league, fa cup, league cup, uefa cup/europa league, champions league, charity shield and even the bloody world club championships game for the last 27 years ... Does that mean I should play for Liverpool as I would class myself as rather loyal

I do get where you are coming from. spearing will not be sold.

Give me a contract and I wouldn't budge, doesn't mean I'm good enough

No he's crap! Get rid and be thankful! Since when has it been ok to keep a poor player because they "play for the shirt" given the right money I'm sure he'll play for any other shirt that's thrown at him.

Jay spearing is.....Rubbish, don't care if he's scouse or whatever, if your not good enough then tara !

we want agger to stay because he's quality, simple as, if charlie adam refused to leave none of you would be applauding him you'd be offering to pack his bags because he's rubbish !

spearing doesn't get speacial treatment for being scouse because i'm afriad he's rubbish ! will NEVER fit into the style of play rodgers wants to play, and only fitted into kenny's plans becuase it seemed he was happy to watch liverpool play utterly woeful football !

Jay Spearing isn't good enough. He's never been good enough and he never will be.I understand that he loves the club, but if I was in his shoes I would look at the big picture and would find a club where I could play week in, week out.If he believes he's good enough to play for us then he's delusional.

Loyalty is all well and good when ya good enough. being scouse and wanting to wear the red shirt isnt enough mate.. Jay is lacking in too many areas to warrant a space in a squad that will challenge for a championship and europe..
ItsNotRocketScience

And why would we want to keep Spearing ? Not good enough by miles, worst MF in the squad

Will he play for 10k per week??..
if yes..then let him stay......

John, you are mixing feelings with football matters. Jay Spearing as likeable as he is, is at an age when a footballer should be pushing for a spot in the first 11. Shelvey, Henderson, Allen are all younger and ahead of him. This is a business and Jay, just like Adam has no future at the club. As for your protest; ... come on, man.

Canadian Fan

Yes.Wigan.

Jiminy Cricket

Your name suggests you might be coming from wigan :p
Only joking mate, I get what you mean but Agger and Spearing are like the distance between the skies and the earth!
I dont believe in this protesting carp but Agger is a little too special to lose at the moment, might destabilize the defense mate..

I would love to play for liverpool too, would be loyal as well, but sadly just not good enough, same as jay. reason we were disaster last season along with not scoring enough was jay and carra in spine of the team. carra was class in his day, not anymore. jay not up to it.

B O H

Loyalty does mean something so does talent if your lucky you get a player with both jay does have 1 and a half

cheers mal

Awful player. Loyalty and 'giving 100%' is mandatory; it's not an alternative to playing well.

I guess most people haven't read carefully enough

Difference between Agger and Spearing, which is what you assume you're getting at , is that Agger is a world class defender who would be a great loss and spearing is ultimately a limited footballer who was found out at the top level and cost us games last year, so the fact that a WORLD CLASS footballer wants to stay unlike a certain SeΓ±or Torres should be backed and supported.

Loyalty means plenty, but it means a damn sight more if you are actually a good player, which unfortunately for him jay spearing isn't and never will be, so id take any offers over 1.5m.

Get rid,not good enough

Agger shouldnt be sold because he is very good atwhat he does, Both have liverpool heart , its just that Jay isnt good enough.no matter how devoted and loved a player may be he has to be Liverpool good and Spearing is poor.

Im sure there was lots of players that just werent good enough didnt want to leave but in the end it will be better for jay and better for liverpool to part ways now he is a championship player imo.tommy Irish Red

Loyalty is being rewarded. Why should we keep a player that will only ever be in the bench and let his career stall. Never be apart of what the club achieve. Why would we want to break his heart like tht. Same cannot be said about agger. As simple as that. The best thing for everyone is if spearing departs to a level were he deserves to be.

Not a lfc supporter, but i have noticed over the last few years a lot of lfc fans talk about loyalty and how they dont sack or get rid of managers or players and YNWA is constantly mentioned.but its all words with no substance lfc fans are just like any other fans its what suits the club that counts, the only differance is other fans arnt hypocrites about it.in my opinion there are 3 clubs in the prem with fans that voice their opinion to the board and players if they arnt happy.manu, arsenal and newcastle fans.

He is a good local lad, but sadly, not up to the standard lfc needs to progress. If you want a team of mediocre players just because they are locals we're not going to get very far are we. With players like Jay we'll be a mid table team for years to come. I'm sure you would prefer it if we challenge for every trophy with at least a fair chance of winning. To do this, we need better quality players.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not here...

Would you rather a loyal player who isn't good enough or a new signing who is both loyal and good enough?

Jay spearing is ok but not good anuf from Liverpool every 1 said he's local he's a Scouser he's a birknheader weres your loyalty mate u should support wigan shouldn't u cumin from there

Let's say jay was a world beater and an absolute gem of a player and the like of citeh, barca and real Madrid wear after him, do you think he would still be loyal?

Your not the same John from Wigan that on the one hand your saying Yonks out for the shabby (in your mind anyhow) treatment of wee Jay Spearing. Then on take other go into quite a bit of detail into why it's time to cut our losses with the warrior footballer that goes the name of Daniel Agger. Why it is the same chap,John of Wigan happily munching pies and contradicting himself till your hearts content. You wanna start practicing what you preach fella. As well meaning and likable Speaking seems,I envisage that buy the time all this summer transfer dealings as put to bed,Way will have Caroline well to be playing for a new team, with the players were looking to bring in he ain't gonna get near the first team. Sad but true!
Jonson

I see your point but with Agger, loyalty is not the only reason why people want to keep him here. There is also the issue that if he does go, there is no available player with the ability of Agger's. In fact, there probably isn't a player as good as or better than Agger that would come to Liverpool right now because there are other who are in the Champions League and/or who can offer vastly higher wages that we can. I do however agree that if we were to receive an offer of £25M+ then I'd accept it because that is a lot of money for a injury prone defender (he misses around 55% of matches if I remember correctly). I would personally not accept an offer including Adam Johnson because I don't rate him at all. If there wasn't an offer of £25M+ for him then I'd keep him and offer a new contract.

If Liverpool offer to pay me a couple of grand every week I will get YNWA tattooed on my forehead and be the most committed person ever... Still doesn't mean I should play for LFC

G BOX

I know where your coming from mate .

Jamesy

Oh my God! There is only a few who got it, give your heads a wobble will you!
John Wigan

If Jay read half of this he'd probably top himself. Watch your language regarding a loyal LFC player

cozinoz

It was a sarcastic post!
Everyone on here is stating that loyalty should be rewarded; so why not spearing? Yes, he isn't a quality player and Agger is, but why should loyalty be considered for Agger and not Spearing? Loyalty will always lose to the fact of £, lots of, especially a player that is not available for half the season and doesn't recover quick enough in his prime years. So, loyalty will 100% lose to lack of ability and I guesstimate that Spearing will go for this reason. Agger should and will go if a bid acceptable to the club is placed. Harsh but true, except for the guesstimated.
Baz

Amazing how loyalty can get a player a start in the FA Cup final rather than skill or even potential

Eds, Am I right in thinking Tello only has one year left on his contract? That being the case what is all this nonsense about a Barca loan deal, just because Barca don't see him as part of their immediate plans surely they would not let him run his contract down?

Reelum {Ed002's Note - Yes - this has been dealt with all day - please read the posts.}

Hi Ed002. I have been reading the posts which is why I don't understand why there are so many posts still coming through certain of a loan.

Reelum {Ed002's Note - I cannot be expected to justify what posters say. }

Haha I feel your pain ed. About 50% of the posts are about him and if he read even 5 he would know it all :D

just my two cents on the agger speculation. everyone seems to be quoting a bid of 23 million. we signed suarez for 22.8 million. i love agger with all my heart, his name is on the back of my LFC shirt, but when you think we could sell an aging, injury-prone centre back with many long recovery times, and use that money to buy someone of real class that could have a suarez-esque impact, it makes sense to make the deal.

just my thoughts

JSR YNWA JFT96

This years transfer targets are definite, with one or two of Tello, Dempsey, Walcott, Adam Johnson coming in along with Sahin possibly. If Agger leaves, Amorebieta or Godin are the favourites to sign. We will NOT be investing on ANOTHER player apart from this. So, unless Amorebieta or Godin can be deemed as 'class', I dont think any one lese is coming in. If you are expecting LFC to re-invest money into a big name for example, say for the sake of argument, Higuian, its not happening. Hence, I would rather keep hold of Agger.

AG

All maybe and hopefully, bar Johnson il'd say

What wedding vows you would make... i love you with all my heart but... your injury prone, take a long time to recover, im getting a good deal on you and basically all said and done I think i can probably do better!

OK AG, if you are correct about the definate targets(as you say), for the sake of argument, if the club said they would invest in a 'star' player would you sell then?

Considering Xabi Alonso looks likely to leave Madrid soon, wouldn't it make more sense to try sign him on with view to buy rather than loan in Sahin. I know Madrid probably won't want to let him go this season but Sahin would be the replacement for Alonso already there. Also with Shelvey, Suso ready to step up it makes more sense in getting Alonso as he will retire in a few years.

Also in my opinion it makes more sense to loan Afellay rather than Tello and pursue Walcott increasingly.

Cheers,
Hassan

Xabi wont leave until next year when his contract expires and hopefully then we can finally have him back where he belongs {Ed002's Note - Alonso's contract does not expire next year.}

Alonso will not move this year !! maybe next year

When does it expire ed? {Ed002's Note - 2014.}

I think we will loan sahin then take alonso back next year as sahin will not play whilst xabi is there so he will need game time if he is going to play next year
kopcastle

I can see us loaning Sahin this season then when he goes back having had playing time, they will let Alonso move on.

Xavi alonso will not come back, he will most likely move back to his beloved real sociedad to end his career.

Guillem Ballague is reporting on SSN that Xabi Alonso has convinced Nuri Sahin to move to Liverpool, and all that's left if for us and Real Madrid to agree terms.

Dunno how reliable Ballague is or whether he is just chatting rubbish, but if this is true it's simply one more reason to love Xabi Alonso!

Know one knows whats happening with Ramirez.. We may be keeping our cards close to our chests but i know for a fact there is interest.

I really wanted him but now I really don't care. Let's move on he is not signing.

I just wish he would sign for someone, sick of hearing about him

Spurs will probably sign him once Modric leaves. He may have had a poor Olympics but so did Cavani and I think Ramirez is definitely worth the £12.6m fee mentioned. Probably not worth the wage he's demanding though

14 Aug 2012 15:31:36
Hi Eds, I don't really understand why if BR wants to keep Agger that, now the player has stated he wants to stay we cant sort out a new contract with him instead of this ongoing situation? I'm confused as to the stance we are taking? What's your take on the situ? Thanks {Ed019's Note - We want to keep him unless a massive offer comes in (£25M+)}

I totally agree, lets offer him a new contract, then put this to bed, class player

Reading between the lines with what BR and Agger have been saying, he doesn't want to lose Agger but there is pressure from within the club to sell him. i.e. The owners.

This was confirmed by Gerrard's post Gomel match comments when he said they'd want to keep him but the owners have a say in the matter also.

This all points to the owners wanting to recoup their money from the Carroll debacle. Yes a lot of people will point out that £50m was received from Torres but IMMEDIATELY £35 was wasted. I don't blame Kenny for it, he didn't decide the transfer fees. That was that useless p***k Cammolli (thank god he got the boot). Because of that crazy transfer, there is a lot less money available than there should have been. Agger is a highly liquid asset. I don't want to lose him, BR doesn't want to lose him but the owners view him as a person that can be sold for good money and be replaced for half of it. And it is a position in which we have options. But he is the best CB we have and possibly the best in Europe at what he does.

Owners shouldn't decide transfer but to be fair, they're the ones that give the money to bring IN players, so they should have a say on who goes out and for how much.

Tricky situation, hope Agger stays but doubt that he will if City come back with a bigger bid.

Probably a bit of bluff and double bluff in my opinion as in agger asking for too much money on New contract and the club are saying we will not be held to ransom
Steve L

For what its worth my understanding of the situation is,lfc want agger to stay and have offered him a new contract, agger loves lfc and wants to stay but hes not satisfied with the contract on offer and is holding out for more, both are negotiating to find a solution but lfc dont want a rvp scenario or indeed a mcmanaman or owen scenario so are putting it out there to generate interest in agger which points me to think that lfc want this sorted very quickly or agger is away in this transfer window, someone has to blink first and it is looking like agger or else!

I love these sort of websites, lots of fan fuelled rumours and lots of peoples wish lists.
How about some information that is genuine..
Agger stays, - Rodgers doesn't want to sell, Agger doesn't want to go.
Carroll stays - Newcastle may opt to sign him in January, depends on how their season goes, that is the only place Carroll will depart to this year.
Walcott (Boyhood Liverpool Fan) Will sign in the region of £16m-£20m
Tello loan from Barcelona
Dempsey - £6m rising to £9m
Ramirez - Still work to be done on this deal but an offer from Liverpool in the region of £17/£18m has been tentatively accepted

No name left, say no more.

Being reported that Christian Tello is on the verge of signing a loan deal with Liverpool. But with no option to buy.

That is pretty disappointing from a liverpool perspective, he has some talent, but i'm not sure i would really wan't him if it is only for one season. Surely he couldn't be that much better than Sterling? who will actually be a Liverpool star of the future.
Thoughts Eds?

Isn't that kind of impossible for tello to sign on loan without a 'to buy' cluase included?

His contracts up next year so it'll be loan to free transfer with compensation if we did loan

And do you expect sterling to play 38 league games along with possibly 17 europa and 6 or 7 fa and league cup games as well, its about having a strong squad not a strong starting 11, i for 1 would love tello even if it is for a season

14 Aug 2012 16:06:18
Agger should not be sold, in this day and age it is hard to come by players who want to stay at their club. Most players nowadays will jump for a slightly more expensive car, ... Just look at players like Adebayor, Toure, Nasri and now RVP at Arsenal or at Hazard, Eto'o, ...

Agger on the other had has come out and said that he loves this club and he doesn't want to leave unless the club forced him out. He is one of the best CB in the PL, Agger, Gerrard, Suarez will be an example in the dressing room for all the younger players. They're all players who'd rather stay at LFC than go to another club where they'd earn more and play CL-football, players who want to remain at the club they love, simply admirable.

Sorry for the long post eds, but I'm an Arsenal fan and I would love RVP to have the same attitude as Agger. I can't believe some fans want him to leave.

There has been a lot wrote about Agger on this site, me included but consider this,
If you were the owner of a company and you had an employee who was off sick for over half of the year, and another firm came in for him offering loads of money to you, which enabled you to get 2 more staff, which you couldn't otherwise. What would you do?
I think Agger is a superb player, but what is the point if he only plays 45% of the time. I dont get what the big issue is, it is surely common sense to cash in and get at least 2 more players that we need who hopefully can stay fit for more than 1/2 a season! Bearing in mind he played more last season than any season before , in fact in 2 seasons he played less than 5 Prem league games. So you would rather keep someone who potentially could only play 5 games than get 23 million or whatever it is!
Last point Agger played 27 games in Prem last season the last time he did that(2006/2007, the season after you guessed it he could only manage 5 games.
Does this make it any easier to see how it could be beneficial to sell?
John Wigan

Spot on mate.
Passion and skills count for nothing when your on the treatment table.
I'm trying to think with my head on this one. The money's too much to turn down.
My heart wants him to stay.
My head tells me to cash in while were up.
Were never getting £20m+ for him again.
If we can sell agger and Carroll for 40m then that will bring in 3 decent players. Or 2 very good ones.
We have too many holes in our squad to ignore.

MIKEY

The thing is mate odds that in this day and of 0 league

Persons you dont all say this about robin van persie who only had a full season last year witch via five weeks so did agger who would u replace him with there aint no one ors city would get them why cant people seee that agger is a must to how we play and i belive his injurys are behind as last year he got a bust rib in a game thats it in agger we trust

mike

To carry on with this scenario, you must all so factor in the time it will take to implement these 2 new staff. The lack of experience for these 2 staff. The disruption caused to other emplayees and the whole office.

Just some of the points you happened to leave out!

Red-Keys
JFT96 YNWA

So what if he plays all the game this season...he is the best defender in the PL..and thats the reason the best current team want him desperate knowing of his injury..
his carrying of the ball, distribution is excellent..
if lescot is worth 25 mill...for me agger is worth 40 mill

Regardless of whether Agger leaves or not, LFC will buy players. From what I understand, one of Tello, Walcott or Adam Johnson along with Dempsey and Sahin are targeted. If Agger leaves, I dont expect BR and the managemnet to go, " Right, we have got 25 million sitting around, should we go and buy Ramirez?" This seems to be what most of the fans are thinking. It's not going to happen. So why sell him?

AG

New manager, new playing style, squad overhaul.
No better time to bring in new players. Get them all singing off the same hymn sheet from day 1.

MIKEY

True Red Keys, but what you are assuming is that they are not experienced, they may have come from somebody who does the same job, as for disruption, what if these 2 staff made it better for the rest than the outgoing 1 did! Do you see? Plus Mike What has RVP got to do with this, he plays for Arsenal?
John Wigan

In 7 years he has not been close to playing a full season! the best is 27 out of 40, the worst 5 out of 40, so do you really think he will? I could easily say in response say if he plays no games, which is more likely!
Plus AG how do you know how it is to be invested, you are just guessing!
John Wigan

Exactly John i'm assuming they won't be experienced, as you are assuming they will be experienced, as you are assuming they will be of the same calibre as Agger. They are no guarantees of any of our assumptions. My point regarding experience was specifically Barclays Premier League experience, at the moment we are linked with potential replacements from outside of the BPL (with the exception of Ashley Williams) hence my point about lack of experience. I appreciate your point but see the sale of Agger as potentially hazardous to our strong defence.

Red-Keys
JFT96 YNWA

Red-Keys What is more hazardous to our defence is relying so heavily on somebody who is injury prone. It may seem like I have something against Agger, I think he is quality but going on his previous percentage of games played do you really think it would destablise our defence?

Hey Eds,
Do you personally feel Sahin (loan) and Tello (loan/perm) could happen ?
also is it true our transfer team is currently in Spain to negotiaite the deal ?
If we can get those two + possibly dempsey while moving on 5-6 of our unwanted players (Adam, Spearing, Danny Wilson, Carroll, Pacheco, Cole, possibly Doni/Brad jones) it would be an exceptional summer. {Ed002's Note - Please see earlier answers.}

Stuff the money, listen to yourselves.
Age-wise he's probably just about to enter his peak and has years in him. He's a top fella with a passion for the club, just like Alonso was and we let him go with a nice big handshake from Madrid. You can't let these types of players leave and then not regret it later.

Guys,

Not so sure Tello will be coming on loan because:

1. Their regular left winger Cuenca has been injured most of last season with something like a broken knee and is still not 100%
2. David Villa who also played in that position, is still not 100%.
3. Iniesta can fill in there and maybe Affelay but they are really short in the left wing department.

Accoding to my Barca mate, Tello plays either flank, but due to these problems Barca have told Liverpool maybe in January for a loan but not now. There were some rumours about Tello being out of contract and us moving in for the kill but this will not happen. Unfortunately.....

Unless this week Barca have a change of heart. Sorry for the bad take on things because Tello is a signing, loan or otherwise, I would have been made up about

The reality is however slim. Sahin looks like it is going to happen though. Sahin though I do not understand why we need him.

YNWA!
Andy W

Tello will not be a loan in now or in Jan as he only has one year on his contract. Why would Barca loan him out only for him to be on a free at the end of it.

Your 'Barca Mate' ha ha ha!
There not short on left wingers,Villa,Affelay, Iniesta and Cuenca so they have plenty of depth!
Redmanluka

Only Argument against this and its a pretty big one.

By all acounts Tello has not be given a squad number by Barca, which pretty much says he will not play for Barca this season.

Sorry but they have: villa, messi, iniesta, Sanchez, pedro, Cuenca affealy and possibly more LW. Trust me they have plenty of capable wingers.

14 Aug 2012 15:49:10
Ian Ayre is currently in Spain, this suggests to me that a Tello / Sahin announcement is still a way off (unlikely before WBA game). Its just an opinion but I believe Agger's fete will be sealed depending on which 1 of these are successful. If its Tello we wont need Adam Johnson and therefore Agger will most likely stay with Man City already falling short of our cash valuation. If its Sahin then maybe BR will be tempted by the cash + winger option and Agger will most likely leave, with half of the cash being used to get a new CB (Amorebieta or Godin) the rest of the cash on Dempsey. Seems to me the whole Liverpool transfer saga is linked. Expect double signings / departure announcements. And for the love of god, please please no more Ramirez rabble.....Its not a deal, never was and never will be! (he will sign for Spurs this week)

We are in Spain for both tello or affealy and sahin. The transfers for these players have nothing to do with agger. If sahin comes in spearing and Adam will most likely go. If tello comes in he is a replacement for maxi. If Dempsey comes in he is a replacement for kuyt. None of it has anything to do with agger.

Names to look out for: in: tello, sahin, Dempsey, Walcott

Out: agger, (as much as I would hate that) Carroll, spearing, Adam, Pacheco.

14 Aug 2012 15:48:36
Eds, assuming Agger is sold in the next few weeks do you think it'd be out of the question for the club to not make any CB purchases at all? With Coates and Kelly ready to play with the first team, and players like Wisdom and Sama behind them with the reserves, couldn't the money from the alleged Agger sale be reinvested in a different way?

~Fresh {Ed002's Note - Of course that is possible.}

If Liverpool want to do it the hard way then yes we would rely on Coates, carra and Kelly for that position. We always seem
To do it the hard way anyway.

I would guess that if BR was going to look at someone like Phillips then Sinclair would be the more obvious choice. With him being in the last year of his contract ought to be decent value and good sell on value in the future.

Reelum

Remember Charlie Adam once belonged to Blackpool...

In my opinion Phillips had a lot more potential compared to Sinclair. Sinclair has pretty much found his level, I maybe see him somewhere like Sunderland if Swansea go downhill.

Adam was never going to be a

Tello? Is this the same Tello that was quoted as saying something to the effect of he knows virtually bugger all about LFC and feels it would a step down to join us... all the while lavishing acclaim on Juve and some other club I don't remember?

If reports that he's "close" are to be believed, what's changed now? All in a few days he's gone from a complete ignoramus about our club to being well briefed and sold on? All of a sudden he's interested? Don't buy it.

The matters as I understand them and as they are as such to be accepted as fact is that Barca want Song and the package to be offered to Arsenal will include Tello, who the gooner's interested in. It should be quite straightforward.
Even Ed002 would support this.

So I'd urge folks to curb their enthusiasm on this one. Nothing's "close". All sorts of wild claims are being made.
Yet we've seen nothing conclusive of a bid being made and accepted, or indeed indications that the player is interested.

Finally, the Ramirez saga appears to be drawing to a close. Brilliant. We should be spared of the nuissance. Personally think he'll be a decent buy for Spurs, though I'm not sure if he could be deemed priority.

WILLIE

Can you give us a source where Tello has made these comments Willie?

Red G

Having a bad day?

Maybe he was misquoted! or misunderstood! But think about about it, is not evrywhere a step down from Barca? Doesnt mean he was disrespecting us really!
The link to Arsenal is feasible I agree, would this mean no room for Theo! I think they are pretty similar, lots of pace end product suspect!
John Wigan

He would rather join us than arsenal so he clearly didn't say that.

Quoted as saying something to the effect of that comment really makes me wonna believe you...

Makes sense to me sure didnt you lot phone barca a few months back to speak to pep-g and he had never heard of lfc,so how do you expect a young lad like tello to know anything about lfc seeing as he has never come across lfc in the UCL makes sense then that he thinks lfc are a smaller club than juve, which incidentally youse are lol...

A person that is a fan of football, doesn't matter what part of the world you are in. You have heard off several football clubs in your life and probably seen their jersey hanging from a store or market. Liverpool is among one of those clubs. Real Madrid, barca, AC Milan, juventus, bayern Munich, manchester united are clubs in the same bracket. I've been to Iran and Liverpool and Manchester united are the most popular clubs there. That's saying something. Tello has been playing football from a very early age, his life is pretty much football so believe me he knows Liverpool.

Would Defoe be a viable option Eds? Obviously he's 29 but with 17 goals from limited game time last season, and probably available for upto £10M i'd love him. Maybe an alternative to Dempsey if Fulham are playing hard ball?

Dave D {Ed002's Note - I would not think so.}

14 Aug 2012 15:18:11
ed with a few more of the right signings i really think we could make a real go for top 4 this season,

Tottenham have no real striker, best player in modric wanting to leave, avb unproven in the prem and a chairman not willing to pay the big wages needed to sign quality players.

Arsenal not the team they once was an certianly beatable to the 4th spot, even though they have made some quality signings life without rvp will be tough.

4days to go an every day na felling more confident come on you reds YNWA

Mustafi

Anyone agree?

I'm not worried about Spurs either. Their defence is disrupted (mind you, ours might be as well if we sell Agger) with a new player coming in, Dawson returning from long term injury, and I don't think Gallas, Kaboul or Bassong are particularly good, and as you say, lacking a little in the striker department. If Modric goes, I don't think Sig will be able to replace him.

But, one out of Man U, Man C, Chelsea and Arsenal have to miss the top 4 for us to get in, and I'm not sure that's going to happen.

Man U and Man C are definitely going to be in the top 4, imo.

Chelsea have bought two very good players in Hazard and Marin, and they didn't exactly have a bad squad to begin with. Two question marks are their defence and Torres' ability to replace Drogba in their side. If one of those doesn't work out then maybe they'll drop out of the top 4. Maybe.

On paper Arsenal look to be in trouble with RVP probably leaving, but they survived the departures of Henry, Fabregas and Nasri without dropping out of the top 4. RVP might the be the straw, but I just have a gut feeling that it'll be Deja-vu. Someone will step up for them. And then they'll sell him in a couple of years and someone else will step up...

That all being said, we should be at least 5th and get in the top 4 if one of those teams drops out of it. Newcastle are probably the biggest threat to our ability to do that.

- Something Red -

I think its better that we focus on the strengths of our team and our club than worry about what others may or may not do .

Buck Rodgers

I'm guessing we will leap frog both of them.
Arsenal where shocking most of last season apart from RvP.
I'm not in any way convinced with their new signings either.
Spurs will be very hit and miss.
Especially when modric goes. They are right to want so much for him, he's what makes the team tick.
He's probably as important to them as gerrard is to us.
The big name players that could leave us are Carroll and agger. Although agger will be a loss it won't have the same impact as modric or RVP leaving. Carroll will just be replaced with another striker, were hardly going to miss all his goals are we?

MIKEY

Spot on Buck Rodgers. Tottenham and Arsenal only have the chance to affect our season in two games each... where as Liverpool's players have the chance to affect it every day so im going to concentrate on my team not others...

Exactly are squad is looking stronger by the day
imagine lucas sahin allen in a 3, with suarez gerrard boroni up top
thats as good i not better then the teams batteling for 4th

Mikey, lmao, keep taking the pills.thats why arsenal where 7 points behind lfc by the end of sept and where 15 points ahead of lfc come the end of the season,oh and by the way arsenal finished 3rd and are in the CL,along the way they beat lfc, chelsea, city and if my memory serves me right they beat stoke lol you remember them lol, arsenal were in turmoil at the start of the season with fabregas, nasri and cliche leaving and for a few weeks with dreadfull injuries could barely put a team out,yes rvp done the business, thats what he is there for, what was carroll and saurez excuss,i noted at the olympics and in your pre season the same old prob with saurez is still there,6 attempts 1 goal, arsenal have bought real quality this season, more than enough to cover for rvp when he goes.the differance between the gooners and the scousers is youse are dreaming of 4th the gooners are now daring to think of the title.and in any case it has never been a problem scoring goals without rvp,the problem has always been letting to many in but now we have steve bould to sort that out yippee, carry on being deluded chum because arsenal are going to rip up a few trees this season im convinced of that

Not going to happen I know but who would be happy in doing a direct swap of Agger for Carlos Tevez? Yes Tevez has his problems, but Tevez and Suarez upfront...

As I said, I'm not trying to start some ridiculous rumour, I'm just asking who would accept this deal if it was to happen.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Tough one. But for me Agger. Tevez has no loyalty and Agger has plenty of it!

AG

I love Tevez when he's on the field...he plays hard, but his wages would just be way way to high.

On pure footballing ability, I'd have Tevez in a heartbeat.

But I suspect he'd become a disruptive influence before the end of next season.

So no. Even if it was possible.

- Something Red -

How can you even compare a defender to a striker? Footballing ability, they play completely different positions!

One would assume that after the transaction, we'd replace Agger rather than playing Tevez at centre-half.

I'm saying that, judged solely on his ability as a footballer, Tevez would be worth more than the transfer fee we'd get for Agger. So it'd be worth it, just on footballing ability. But the reality is he'd be too much trouble off the pitch, so I don't actually want him.

This is hardly rocket science.

- Something Red -

I was not comparing a defender to a striker. I was only asking the question because we need a forward like tevez. I am undecided about the answer to my own question. Agger is class, yet can't get through a season uninjured. Tevez again is fantastic, however I don't want another saga like he had at City last season, and his wages are silly. However, if he was willing to take a pay-cut, I think I would just about go for the Tevez option.

would be very interested to know how many people screaming for Ramirez have actually watched him play regularly? and now that spuds are in for him then lfc need to "pull their finger out" Ramirez will flop at spuds! he won't be suited to the pl and by Christmas we'll all live happily ever after!

I dont want another slow winger....
I watched him in a game at the Olympics and he was not quick at all.
Sanchez was the last decent winger to come out of Italy and he went for 40 million so if Ramirez is only half the price then he must be crap.
It's only my opinion...

Hi eds, and other fans

I don't understand why we would not make a bid for Kevin Mirallas, he looks like a great player, skillful and can score. Apparently he has an €8million buy out clause, he would fit nicely into BR's system, he's also five years younger than Dempsey and would be cheaper than him,

His buy out clause which was 6.3 mill has expired since the end of July and now Olympiakos can charge what they want meaning probably a ridiculous fee. Arsenal more keen then us but not at the 15 million euros being quoted. Very good player.

Hi Edds, Great Site. Just wondering, who would dempsey prefer to join Liverpool or Everton as they are showing interest due to the money from the rodwell deal? {Ed002's Note - I could only guess.}

14 Aug 2012 14:39:24
Tello on his way for around 6 million. This should put an end to all the silly walcott rumours.
Also the sahin loan deal should be finalised by the weekend.

Finally a real post.

Maisey.

No-one is going to disagree with YOU Maisey

Walcott and tello will sign

Though very talented Dagger is 27 and very injury prone. The club has two choices (i) it either offers Dagger a new 4-5 year contract on about £80K a week, acknowledging that he will have little sell on value at the end of the contracts and we all keep our fingers crossed that he is over his injury problems; or (ii) the club sells Dagger for £23m+ and reinvests the money. Both Kelly and Coates are bursting to become regular first teamers. They are at the age when they need to earn their stripes or be moved on. Most on here would agree that they are both very capable and what they need is regular game time to make the step up. IF BR agrees with this analysis then as much as we all want Dagger to stay the right financial decision for the club is to sell Dagger and use the money to reinvest in other areas of the team. Reality Red

Unfortunately that is the stark choice. Sign him long term and watch his value diminish to nothg/next to nothing whilst also running the risk he will spend half the time injured, or cash in on him while he is worth a substantial amount of money.

says he's 100% confident that agger is here to stay end of story so that good enough 4 me

Good assessment mate. Take the emotion out of it and it does make sense to cash in on Agger.... unfortunately!

Just hope we sell to Barca, Real or PSG.

Red G

I agree in some ways. He is a true Danish Scouser. He's a quality player and what fans love the most he loves the club but in a business point of view, he turns 28 in next few month and he probably will have a good couple of years left in him. As he has been very injury prone over his LFC career the club has a trickey situation. Sell him on for £25mill plus (which IMO is great bit of business) or keep him and offer him a new contract. Next year his price will decrease by half due to the age. I'd love to keep him, he's a massive legend but to put business 1st (that id what FSG are) sell him to Barca. Bring in the youth and re-invest into the red revolution. Or keep him for another year, see how his year goes and sell him for half?
Opinions please?

FowlerGod.

All above has valid points but...lets put in on a scale of things where it may effect top 4 as any defensive partnership takes its own time developing. So we could lose now 10-12m if no sale but effectively lose out 20mil on champions league...must say though that i am a businessman myself and i would scale those options and further more check his Physical Assessment... If his Assessment shows that he probably will miss half of this season then i will SELL as i'd rather want my new staff to bed quickly with current or for a young fella to blossom.

The Legend Carra is better served as a substitute or Euro games as he is getting a bit elder now and we should bred more youngsters in

Eds, is it entirely out of the question we could sign adebayor on loan? Proved wherever he's played he knows where the net is!

Thanks

Chris {Ed002's Note - It seems unlikely.}

His wage bill is 175k a week

Why would we want him??

Liverpool beat Gomel - easy ?

Liverpool will beat Hearts - easy ?

Liverpool are likely to beat West Brom.

Bayer Leverkuesen was a friendly.

No real test yet.

26th August - Liverpool vs Man City.

The real test.

Red Boot

Playing an unknown european team is always a tough test, you really should know this, its basic stuff

So if we lost that match, BR has instantly failed? Any match were we are playing mainly first team is a test.

Even if we lose all our matches against the other 5 teams we can still get 84 points if we win against all the easy oppositions?

There is the problem of liverpool football club. we dont take the lesser teams serious but get up for the big games. i wonder if we lost twice to man u asenal man city spurs and chelsea but beat every other team where would we end up. 84 points often enough to win the league

We easily knocked city out the CC, we battered them at Anfield last season but as was normal we did not get the deserved win. Liverpool will beat city. Liverpool won't have such a freakish bad home run again.

Paris

Looking at it this way, we need to win every game (especially against the lower teams), if we dont win we need to draw the game to stand any chance of making the top 4... We need to beat the lower table teams, we beat most the top teams last season, our downfall was losing or drawing to teams like Blackburn, QPR etc! We have a chance to get back into the top 4, and if we get Tello and Sahin in i'm convinced we can do it.

Rocky

I remember last seasons pre-season we got spanked by Hull. Things looking better.

14 Aug 2012 13:55:38
Walcott has pulled out of England squad with a nasty "bruised thigh"!

He'll be a Liverpool player by the end of the week.

Andy

What a whimp! We dont need him.

Its standard practise to make up an injury with a friendly like this so I really wouldnt let it mean anything to you.

Kopping a feel

The Euros werent that long ago, so he probably remembers vividly how they Italians played us off the park, and thought stuff that!
John Wigan

14 Aug 2012 13:49:44
Hi EDs, if we beat Arsenal in the race for Tello and Sahin, do you think they won't let us buy Walcott or put a very high price tag? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

14 Aug 2012 13:43:10
Barcelona waiting for city to make a final offer for agger, they will then offer a slightly reduced price knowing agger would prefer a move away from prem if Liverpool wish to cash in.

14 Aug 2012 13:36:42
little question for everyone who is want to cash in on agger [our best defender-bar none]
why not sell gerrard, he is permanantly injured and has not played well for at least three seasons.
did you all feel that cashing in on alonso was the right thing at the time?
sell jamie while we are on it, he is slower than the economy.
that way we clear the two biggest earners off the books

If someone offered 70m for Gerrard, you'd have to consider it. 23m for a CB who plays half a season should be considered.

cozinoz

Well if that is right that Stevie is always injured and has played badly for the past 3 seasons then surely he's not going to be worth much is he? who would buy someone whos as bad as your making out? Gerrard will shine again this season u just watch!! and Carra is good back up and good for the young cb's to learn from..

It's an emotive issue and you're not wrong with you're arguement for keeping Agger, but let me ask you this Carrol has said he doesn't want to leave either so do we turn down offers for him as well?

Sell Gerrard? You're a muppet - the man has shown loyalty - show him some back. The best player weve ever had isn't finished yet.

Gazman

To be fair the man makes a fair point Gazman and i do not think he is actually saying we should sell Gerrard etc, but rather the idea of selling our best players is maybe not a good idea and if Agger, why not Gerrard who would free up loads of cash and give us extra money to buy others

gareth

70m for Gerrard, you need to lay off the Orange Sunshine mate!

Kaleidoscope

It does make sense to sell Agger We all love him here, he the kind of player I would like to play for us forever but frankly 25 mil is a lot .we can buy a good Cb for part of that money and reinvest in youth. Its not like we are a selling club but sometimes you have to lose the small war to win the big battle and what FSG or we all fans want for our club is to be self sufficient and that is done by losing one of our biggest and most loved assets to ensure the flow of cash. If Agger is sold its not a calamity for us and we fans will repay the trust and love showed by Agger toward LFC by giving him the same kind of reception that we gave Sami.
For me Agger will never walk alone

The most successful Liverpool sides ever(The Paisley era) were succesful because he wasnt afraid to sell players, even before their sell by date. Think of a player that was there in that era that had gone past their best years?not many, he used to ship them out and replace them, natural progression! Everybody keeps referring to old red nose and how he wouldnt sell Vidic. Do you really think that he was offered 23million he wouldnt sell, youre dreaming if you disagree. Look at the past, Beckham,Van Nistlerooy,Stam,Ince, unpopular sales but he moved on and replaced them.
John Wigan

I think Gerrard is a legend ,but if someone was to make an offer that was above his worth then it has to be considered for the good of the club .Ant

Gazman, the same gerrad that almost joined Chelsea..?

Can't believe anyone would consider selling Gerrard...Trust me Liverpool never will for any price !! There is no1 better and more loyal he commands Anfield and who else would you want lifting the silverware..

14 Aug 2012 13:34:58
Everton coming in for Dempsey with the Roswell cash and will also get Adam johnson on loan. There has been interest from 2 clubs for downing and possible Adam will go to fulham (as part of Dempsey deal) or wigan

Think you meant Rodwell? Roswell is that place in the US with all the UFOs. Hmm. Maybe that is what you meant?

Everton signing ufo's from the roswell crash... shouldn't this be on the conspiracy page Eds?

Cuchulainn's Hounds

A couple of aliens would be great signings for everton.....with Baines heading the other way to roswell and eventually to space.... i also heard Chevorlet are sponsoring all of everton's spaceships.

Did,nt Everton sell an alien to man city a couple of years back?

Daniel Agger and martin skrtel will sign new contracts, tello Dempsey and sahin in, more news maybe even a signing by Thursday.

Ikin the Viking
YNWA

Tello sahin plus one or two of walcott dempsey and adam johnson. I know its alot but BR feels our club lack natural wide men and want 2 3 or 4.

Its just sahin on loan, tello buy or loan and
Dempsey or Walcott. Only 3 players are coming in.

Sahin on loan. Then tello is first choice winger, on loan or permenant transfer. Adam Johnson 2nd choice winger and Walcott 3rd choice. Then if we shift Adam then it is likely Dempsey will sign., may take a while.

ed whats the situation with Isco at Malaga? is it true he could leave for penneys this summer and do we ave any intrest in him? cheers ed {Ed002's Note - Penny's no. He may well leave but Liverpool are not showing any interest we are aware of at this time.}

14 Aug 2012 13:29:19
selling agger is the wrong move,we want to win prices and need the best players to stay.
and all this nonsense that agger has a history with injuries needs to stop.
vidic has them aswell, lets see if man u will sell him.
selling agger is only for money reasons we are trying to build a team not selling the players we are all sure abt.
milan sold ibra and silva at least they were honest abt it they needed the money.
fsg should make a statement that we need to sell agger and carroll and collect 40+ mil so we can buy borini allen 25mil and the other 2 we would like to bring in.
carroll done more than downing and henderson why is carrol treathed this way.
he came in injuried got better towards the end and always gave his best.
if rodgers wants another striker he should buy 1 and keep carroll for 1 more season.
barca last season with tika taka could not brake the chelsea and madrid wall, they looked at the bench and they had no player like carroll.

Hha...what a stuppid post mate...
liverpool FC is not an expiremental place to experiment players...
one more season..one more seaon..
what nonsese...caroll played over 30 matches with under 10 goals..he should go..simple...
barca never ever want a player like caroll plsssssssss..
gyfi cost 6 mil and hendo 16 mill
hendo is crap..
cant understand people saying he will come good under BR...
he should also go....

^^^^^ most critical fan i have ever heard. surely not a true liverpool fan based on his total downing of the players at the club. only reason we paid so much is because were liverpool and they know they can get thius money because we are a top club. go back to supporting city or chelsea your a plastic fan.

from a true liverpool fan.

Well said mate - henderson downing and adam should all go. no talent whatsoever. downing didtn even score a goal all season!even tim howard managed tht- get adam johnson in! skillfull player

Sir to be honest what has Carroll done he has missed sitters and when a person wont suit our system or by selling him we can have a better option for the club then why not? please tell me wasn't he a panic buy?. please tell me where will we fit a tall lanky guy in a 4-3-3 system and how long it takes for Carroll to lay the ball to a midfielder and get back in the box?
I admire your sentiment but I want to win title's I just don't care with Carroll or without him. Its been 20 odd years since the title was won by us and the scums are leading us in that department it hurts me everyday ,so I want to win it, win ugly or win by playing pretty that the least of my concern just win
Red 316

I am not a critical fan,i am a real fan i am from malta and try to go once a year to see a match and pay over the odds for a ticket.
carroll was not the problem last year spearing downing and henderson were.i am not saying henderson wont get better, but spearing and downing dont have the quality to wear the lfc shirt.

eds I know this isnt really Liverpool related but I was just wondering why QPR didnt keep Taiwo I know he was available but he is a class act. Shame Really.

Rays Of Red {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Because he cant defend which is a rather important aspect for a Left-Back

14 Aug 2012 13:18:43
After speaking with a spurs fan in work it seems that Jermaine Defoe is surplus to requirements at spurs, I for one would take a punt on him, he seems to score goals wherever he plays! He would get us 35-40 goals over two seasons (if fit), if we had someone like that it would relieve suarez/gerrard/carroll of goalscoring pressure...say 6m probably snaps him up! I would rather have him than dempsey...what do ya reckon ed's?

Neilos { Ed019's Note - no}

Cant see spurs sell the last striker they have lol.

Every transfer window we always end up getting linked to Defoe why? How does it happen?

Every window we get linked with everyone
(which by definition includes Defoe)it's not going to change anytime soon

Puzzled

Morelikely spurs willcome in for carroll before the window closes

14 Aug 2012 13:18:02
Some exciting names being mentioned this week. I wonder if the eds would be willing to indulge us fans and give us their percentage chance of the following transfers?

Sahin (loan)
Tello (loan)
Tello (permanent)
Agger-City
Adam Johnson
Dempsey
Walcott
Ramirez
Amorebieta
Godin
Ashley Williams
Kaka

I know it's conjecture but would be interesting to get your thoughts! { Ed019's Note - Sorry we don't do percentages}

14 Aug 2012 13:17:42
Theo Walcott pulls out he England squad, with a 'bruised thigh'..I wonder..

Wonder what? if it hurts him! can't think of anything else.

14 Aug 2012 13:17:15
Hate to say it in some ways, but if Dagger is still at LFC by August 1st I'd be amazed.

Guy has been a loyal and effective player (would be classed as amazing without all the injuries) but £20 mil + is just too good to turn down. He won't try and force a move as of couse he doesn't want to loose his transfer %age (and why should he?).

Trust that we'll have someone already signed before he goes though - would hate to get #icked around towards the end of the transfer window.

If Carroll does go with Dempsey coming in I'd be disappointed for 2 reasons: he offers a potentially game-changing threat from the bench (assuming he doesn't start of course)and NUFC will probably pay top dollar for him in Jan if they don't secure replacements for Ba and Cisse who will probably miss at least 4 weeks in African Cup of Nations. Lets see how much they feel they need him then - £35mil sounds a fair price I reckon:-)

JimK

I think you got your months mixed up because August 1 has passed ;D

Prepared to be amazed as it's now Aug 14th and he is still here.

Well it is August the 14th now so we have done very well.

BthekingB

Ha ha! It's August the 14th today you chump! Genius.....

U must be amazed then mate cos its august 14th

The only way Newcastle will miss Ba and Cisse is IF they qualify for ACON .senegal have to play Ivory coast to qualify. Ivory coast are the better team which means they are only likely to miss Tiote for ACON not BA and Cisse. I also thought it was reported last night that Newcastle had ended their interest in Carroll ,Eds can you comfirm if this is true?thanks. {Ed002's Note - I can't.}

14 Aug 2012 13:15:00
Walcott pulls out of England squad, being eager I know but think there is anything behind this regarding Liverpool eds ? { Ed019's Note - No idea sorry}

How about

Cause he knows just how to pass..and he knows just how to shoot...and the name of our right winger is.....Tello,

Eds - what are your opinions on Theo Walcott joining? I would much rather see Scott Sinclair a liverpool player - half the price - less wages - more potential - he could be for us what ashley young is now for united {Ed019's Note - I think that Walcott would be a great addition, pacey and can finish, and also provide many assists. Sinclair looks set for City}

An ed that fancies Walcott would be good for us! Im surprised! But happy and agree
Only kidding to eds who do not rate him and i can see the problems he has too but think he would fit in really well and give us the pace and unselfish pass we need in the box for someone like boroni

Do you think Alonso wants LFC return now?Dat might just be the reason for rejecting the contact.. Your thoughts friends..

14 Aug 2012 13:03:34
If Agger's injuries had been related to each other, eg a dodgy knee, or prone to be hamstrung, on balance I might just about consider selling him for a good price to strengthen the rest of the squad. However, his injuries have been all random and unrelated, which would make me think we should keep him, on top of which he is fiercely loyal to LFC. It is undoubtedly a bit of a gamble either way, only time will tell. IF BR has identified targets that he knows he can get in, but needs the Agger money to do it, then maybe he should. I will, however, be severely pi**ed if he is sold, and the squad isn't improved quite substantially. I have to say, it's a tough call!

Nick

I'd be angry if he went to City, sad if he went to Barca.

He gets random, regular injuries so you never know when the next one will strike! sooner or later all of these small injuries will cause long term damage to a particular body part and then we'll end up with ledley king the 2nd! 25m is a lot of money for any player, especially one who is as unfortunate as agger with injuries. let him go to barca and wish him well because in a less physical league he would be perfect!

If liverpool are intrested then spurs aint never to far behind.

Good day Eds! Just read that City are probably ready to offload John Guidetty this summer. Do you know if there is any interest from LFC and do you think he would be a good buy for us?

ian ayre arrived in barcelona to try and lure tello in, evn the barca manager is trying to pust this move through which could be for a deal of just 4million pounds!

huxleypig

Buy of the summer if that happens

As I go over to "AyreCam" the 2 men in suits arrive at Subways at 12.27pm the meeting is sheduled for 12.30pm. Ian Ayre is at the counter ordering 3 footlong meatball's all with no lettuce but with extra cucumber. The meeting goes well even though Arye eats with his mouth open and copious amounts of sauce run onto his shirt that he got from the Asda. Talks are ongoing, fingers crossed all should go well.

hi eds, what is all this talk of ramirez now looking at tottenham because they have offered more wages than we have and it says that his agent has spoken to us but nothing more whilst tottenham have offered 12.6m, why are tootenham roobing all the players we want! also wouldnt he want to join us more because we have suarez and coates?
Thanks {Ed019's Note - It seems interest in Ramirez from Liverpool has waned}

I think the fans want him more than BR does.

14 Aug 2012 12:46:56
We have signed two good signings all ready this summer in borini and allen. We now look good to add tello and sahin to that which are also two excellent signings although tello is loan but will probably be made permanent. This is starting to look like a great summer with a huge reduction in the wage bill and we have signed quality unlike last year. After those two id say it will be walcott. If agger leaves we will probably get adam johnson and godin with a few million left.

This is potentially looking like the best transfer window i remember so i think we should all thank FSG who are giving us money but also looking after our finances responsibly.

A very happy fan.

14 Aug 2012 12:43:19
Agger concedes it may not be up to him- 18mil plus johnson?

14 Aug 2012 12:38:41
Macca saying we're interested in Tello, Dempsey & Walcott, whilst City could offer Johnson as part of a deal for Agger, do you reckon Liverpool could sign all 4 or will us taking Johnson depend on other deals?

In my opinion we are after one of Tello, Johnson or Walcott probably in that order.

JRG

If we are signing tello and walcott then why do we need johnson as part of the agger deal.
in my opinion a straight cash deal would be best or even cash plus adebayor would be better for us.

It wouldn't make sense to get Walcott tello Dempsey and Johnson on top of who we already have, Suarez downing borini sterling (Carroll and Pacheco most likely to leave). All of these players is almost to much depth. I expect tello and maybe Walcott on top of sahin on loan. That's all we would need.

Tello and johnson for the wing, walcott being versatile up front or wing.

hi eds reds reading about the possible transfers. would i be right in thinking tello would be a permenant deal and sahin a loan deal? is dempsey still close? everton seem to have joined in the race to sign him, with howard maybe donavon back there too, would that help in convincing dempsey? my own opinion is its dempsey or walcott.i really hope danny agger stays andy carroll to. i still think we need another goal scorer though. if we are going to play 433 , we have 8 midfielders with sahin, if he joins, but with gerrards injury history , maybe only one will be sold. if tello arrives, with stirling being involved, that maybe enough. as ive said in other posts, i cant help thinking two more mature international players, honda etc, wouldve pushed us towards 4th spot, but its looking like those signings wont happen. still confident about the season though. godblees96 steviep62. {Ed002's Note - Your assumptions seem correct to me.}

14 Aug 2012 02:51:19
Ed1 mate do you think forcing agger out is good for our club coz I was suprise when Macca says they want to sell agger to cover losess i have always supported FSG but now I am confused mate

Kopite {Ed001's Note - if he was just injury prone, I would wonder if it was the right choice, but he is both injury prone and a slow healer. It is the same situation Spurs were in with Ledley King for years, he was their best player, but they could never count on him to be fit when they needed him. I think it is too disruptive to the team to keep him, they just get used to him being back in the team and he is out again. Sometimes you just can't accept the disruption, it can affect the team for weeks when he first gets injured, then it takes a couple of more weeks when he returns for him to get back to his best. I love Agger, but I think it is time to have more reliable centre backs now.}

But I still have agger on the team, no matter what we shouldn't be selling our best players. I beleive their will be a huge backlash against FSG if they do sell.

I am not going to worry about Agger leaving until someone posts that they tried to buy the new shirt in the club shop and were told they are not allowed to put Agger on the back.

JRG

I think ed01 maker it spot on I love agger but getting that much money may be to good to refuse :/

What do people not get, he doesnt play for less than 50% of the season , so if he went how would it be a massive loss. Great player when he plays but not so great if he is on the treatment table.
John Wigan

Ed,001 if we get 18-20 million + Micah Richards for Dagger to cover Johnson/Enrique , would u expect us to go out and buy someone like Hummels for that money + Wilson maybe..he recently signed an extension with Dortmund but for a player exchange and that sort of money Dortmund may sell and we could get the best possible replacement for dagger..with kelly coming to CB thats our defense sorted for years even if carra retires next season..
and if we sell Carroll any chance of us getting Gaitan?better than ramirez and obviously better than walcott IMO..
net spending would remain decent and we get two world class players.. {Ed001's Note - no chance of getting Hummels, but I am sure we will replace him if he goes.}

Ibrahim Afellay is heading for the exit door at Barcelona. Tito Vilanova has spoken to the attacking midfielder and explained to him that the club can't guarantee him the minutes that he deserves. There are no offers at the moment and Barcelona will wait until the market's final moment to find him a club

Morning eds and reds. Not a liverpool rumour as such but a few months ago while pep was still at barca i was led to believe that tello was almost garaunteed a new contract and assumed hed signed one. Was just wonderin what happend and why he hasnt signed one? as i thought they rated him very highly for the future cheers CRAIG {Ed002's Note - The new manager does not see a place for him in the first team.}

14 Aug 2012 11:07:09
right eds and fellow readers the agger situation this is how i see it, last year was agger best he played thhe majority of games ecept for broken rib thats it. robin van persie had his best year other that that has been blighted by injury just like agger but how many people would want us to buy him and the answer is yes so to all the people who say cash in are stupid he is one af the best in the world we would not be able to replace him he wants to play for us, this is all i need to no in agger we trust cheers

mike

If you could look into the future and could see he would only play 5 games, would you keep him or sell him?

Who are our second options should the moves for Dempsey, Sahin, Tello fall through?

Who are the likely two ed.

It seems like the sahin deal is close to being completed, with tello due to sign shortly after. Agger and Carroll will be going nowhere Rodgers doing a great job in keeping our best players and is really strengthening in depth. I heard a whisper from a guy that has been reliable in the past that sahin and tello will sign before the WBA game.

R4L

If Tello signs before WBA then I'll be making change to my fantasy football team :D

14 Aug 2012 11:00:19
Hi Eds i don't see Rodgers being contented with only suarez and borini as options for the central striker in the forward 3. If carroll is moved out, who do you believe we will go for that we currently have interest in? Cheers South Aussie Red {Ed002's Note - Dempsey.}

Carroll is better than dempsey seriously hope he stays.

Carroll sadly does not have the ability that demsey has and demsey has a better potential for a benificial contribution to the team.red mick tag

Carroll gives a different kind of option - not one that Brendan Rodgers appears to want if a suitable offer comes in from NUFC (or possibly Spuds - reckon Redknapp would've definitely had him if he was still there) JimK

EDS is a deal for Sahin going to be a loan or a permanent deal? {Ed002's Note - I would expect that a loan is much more likely.}

14 Aug 2012 10:28:11
Just a comment on the owners and how some on here seem to think they've put no money in, They have put money into the club they have bought Carroll, Suarez, Downing, Henderson, Adam, Enrique, Doni, Coates, Borini and Allen plus youngsters like Ibe and Texiera to mention a couple i make it at around £150 million since they arrived. Yes we have sold too Torres, Babel, Aquilani, Kuyt, Maxi but we wont have recouped half of our spend in my opinion, plus the reported money that had to be spent in order to clear up the mess from the 2 cowboys and stadium plans and all that, they have probably put in over 100 million net spend since they came under 2 yrs ago. Now the players we bought may have been overpriced and not all as successful as we had hoped, but can't level that at the owners. Lets all pull together I believe the owners have the interest of our club at heart. We need to realise we haven't the resources of Chelsea and City.

P.s Dont have a go at me if I missed out a few players or i am out with my Maths, I'm just making the point the owners are investing and have done pretty heavily.

Andy The Red

Yep all of this sell to buy is sheer nonsense if you ask me, just made up by some supporter angered that they didn't re-appoint rafa.
derryred

Are you joking? There was a net spend of £40m before this summer with a wage reduction of £30m a year. That leaves £15m that is covered by money the club generates. Let's not forget we earn £45m a year from wearing a kit £20m standard chartard

14 Aug 2012 10:27:33
Just seen on the bbc website that Steven Warnock has been told by villa he can find another club. What do you recon have him as back up to jose? He knows the club and he's still only 30 and he'd jump at the chance to come back. Robinson is a great prospect but not sure if he's ready for the 1st team just yet.
JFT96 YNWA

So you want to effectively block his passage to the first team and pay unnecessary wages to a player whi gives nothing to our team- yes i concede he (warnock) is a good player and in hindsite shouldn't have been sold but it is a waste of money looking for a backup LB when we already have a good young prospect to fill that role.

People don't learn. FSG are beginning to act like Statler and Waldorf. Selling Agger and Carroll !
Good grief, what next ?

Red boot

As good a player Agger is, he is injury prone, a slow healer and most importantly, contract negotiations have stalled and he only has 2 years left on his contract. If the contract can't be sorted, the owners would be negligent if they didn't ship him out - just as previous owners were when McManaman was allowed to go on a free and Owen was allowed to go down to 1 year left on his contract.

Signing Sahin, Tello, Dempsey and Walcott?

Tello and sahin are on the verge on signing, both could be loans or maybe a permanent deal could be reached for both.
Dempsey is also on the verge of signing with Adam part of the deal. Walcott would be good but we would over pay as normal

Hello to all the greatest supporters in the world (and some not so good ones)

Back from Italy and pleased to see the movements that we have made, and a good friendly result to boot!

Hope rumours on at least one of the possible new loan signings are true.

Do not want Agger to go but hear from BBC (if i remember correctly) that £27 million offer now been thrown at us. For me i would rather he stayed as he has become a LFC player and is committed, which is rare...not to mention he is a great player and will get better.

Can't help thinking though for £27 million maybe Rodgers has a big player in mind that he knows we can get for that price after inquiring about them at earlier stage?

Anyway, loved Italy but missed this site lots

Also Ian ayer is reportedly out in Spain to negotiate deals forthe both of them......

Ian Ayre part of the negotiations? Cross Tello and Sahin off the list then.

Hi ed,

Is Ian ayre currently in spain rumours true?

Hopes for this window :

In : Sahin

Out : adam
Spearing
Carroll
Suso (loan in championship)

I can help with the whereabouts of Ian Ayre. Checking on the newly installed "AyreCam" I can tell you that he is in a Madrid pawn shop pawning his Rolex watch due to his wallet being stolen by pickpockets. He now has enough money to take 2 men in suits for a subway(footlong meatballs)the meeting is scheduled for 12.30. I will let you know how it goes.

14 Aug 2012 09:40:55
Come on people.....lets be realists

Its clear to everyone that we need more strength in depth in attacking midfield/strikers, hence the chases for Walcott, Tello, Affalay, Dempsey etc. I for one would not accuse FSG of a lack of ambition or investment after shelling out nearly £100M last year...which is why i think Carroll or Agger need to be sold to generate some funds. Already spent around £26M with little back the other way.
What are people's thoughts?

Dave D

14 Aug 2012 09:40:23
if any of the eds can answer.......i dont know how contracts work and stuff so maybe you guys can shed some light, lets just say liverpool and man city agree a fee for agger, is it possible for him to refuse to agree personal terms with man city???i know this probably wont happen but what would happen in this situation

BADGER {Ed002's Note - He cannot be forced to sign a contract and move. If he moves somewhere it is of his own free will.}

Thanks for reply ed2.........so he basically does have the option to run down his contract at liverpool and leave on a free if hes not offered another contracy?? {Ed002's Note - Sure, it has happened in the past with players. But I would doubt it would happen with Agger.}

Slyvain Marveaux, ya'll remember him? The poor French wrech who was wheelbarrowed into Melwood but was promptly turned away on account of being raher too crocked?
Well, I wanna know, did the bandages come off and did he set the Prem alight at Newcastle (I think)?

Seriously tho, we dodged there not a bullet but friggin rocket shell.
At least theres one thing Comoli and Kenny didn't **** up.

WILLIE {Ed002's Note - Sylvain Marveaux rejected Liverpool - not the other way around.}

To be fair, ed, he rejected us because we wouldn't bulge under his wage demands - or at least this is how I remember it. We had put an evaluation on him, and refused to overpay him - something similar happened with Gulfy, or at least BR claims so.

Drigan {Ed002's Note - No. Liverpool reduced their offer to Sylvain and he turned it down.}

That's a bit harsh on the lad isn't it? As I understand it, we reduced the package we were willing to offer late in the day. He subsequently went to Newcastle who were willing to meet his demands (which we had previously agreed to). Got to feel sorry for the lad, he clearly thought he was getting his big move to Liverpool, that falls through and he ends up being out injured all season.

JF

He rejected Liverpool because Liverpool wanted to re-vise his contract agreement due to what his medical exposed?

are we surely not interested any more in Ramirez?
he rejected spurs, and I think he'd be a good signing, young, ''only'' 13m pounds, 70k a week.. Its worth considering

cheers, Luka {Ed002's Note - Ramirez did not reject Spurs, Bolgna turned down their offer. Ramirez rejected Wolfsburg, although (at the time) Bologna accepted their offer. He is not available for £13M.}

According to reports in the mirrior he turned down the wages that spurs were offering, i for 1 would be very dissapointed if this lad joins somebody else in the premiership because he looks a steal for 13m.Tommy irish Red {Ed002's Note - You need to consider what Betancourt says as only part of the story. It is only his club that can accept or rejecty an offer - and an offer was indeed rejected by Bologna. Putting aside the wages, you need to also know that they are asking a 7M euro signing on fee. None of this concerns Liverpool at this time.}

Anyone looking a 7m sign on fee can jog on.

Very angry fan..selling one our best players just for profit is what mid-table teams do I think it would be a terrible decision to sell agger..usually we are afraid of losing our best player..agger has said he does not want to leave an they are tryin to push him out? Without champions league football we will never tempt a good enough replacement to join us..things were lookin up untill I seen agger sayin it's out of his hands hope your reading mr. Henry ynwa

Eh? man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs do it all the time

I doubt he is reading to be honest :)

Yes but arsenal and man utd have the funds and champions league to replace them..spurs have no choice they are losing their top players not wanting to get rid of them I'm sure they would keep modric if they could..your reply jus proved my post right thanks :)

The reply to your post doesn't prove yours right at all. There's a time when all players move on and replacements are found, live with it!

Red Raw

Arsenal and Man Utd have the funds to replace them? That's what we would have if we sell him

Did all of those who want us to cash in on agger feel the same when we sold alonso?

Yes if we sell him we will have the funds but still no cl..we will end up payin too much for a player at europa league level and agger is clearly cl material with the best teams in the two best leagues lookin to buy him? there isnt many players like agger left in the world, sayin no to cl football an mega wages simply because he loves the club, city and most importantly the fans..thank you daniel agger ynwa

One question for the Eds regarding possible loan for Tello:

Why would Barca lend out a player with only 12 months left on his contract? To me this does not make sense as after the loan he would be free. Wouldn't they want to sell him instead?

Erik_Oslo {Ed002's Note - They would not unless there was an iron-clad agreement for a sale at the end. It may be viable for him to sign a new contract. If not a sale.}

Just heard we are paying 23million for a great player that evryone will love, only problem is that he only can play in under half of the games! and will stop us buying other players we need!
Would anyone like this to happen?
I think there would be uproar!
I love Agger and if you could gaurantee he plays in more than he has done, i would say keep him, but as he ages he will only get worse, he already admits to playing in pain.
Come on sometimes we need to think with our heads not heart! Its a great deal, nothing to do with the owners 'cashing in' its a great deal whichever way you look at it!

Liverpool Brendan Rodgers has decided that the shortest path to victory is passing through many countries. The Chelsea B exentrenador, Reading, Watford and Swansea came to Liverpool with a clear philosophy and inexperienced, but has been released into the ring without shyness. What the ring is not a cheap imitation: the mirror is Barcelona, the national team, the Spanish. Pepe Reina is playing ball this season more than in all the Dalglish era. If you want more tracks look around, the center of the field that aims Rodgers: Joe Allen (Swansea's new signing), Lucas Leiva and Nuri Sahin, all shorter and stumps.

Sahin said no to the opportunity to be part of the transfer of Modric and now take weeks hearing from Xabi Alonso mouth of the benefits of a special club where he could play regularly. Apparently, Xabi work is paying off and Sahin seems convinced. A year at Anfield will give you the confidence (and rhythm) of scarce. Ian Ayre, executive director of the English club, is in Spain because he and Rodgers believes it Sahin (and perhaps Tello) is more than possible.

Thanks.

You so have to love alonso. Pure legend. I hope to god he comes back one day. Pure pure legend.

Hello ed, is the tello rumours legit? Because if anyone hasn't noticed we have a young lad called Raheem Sterling, the exact type of player. Rumours around L4 is afellay is almost a done deal for the loan.

Thanks mate
Lenny {Ed002's Note - There is certainly interest in Tello but I cannot see a loan being viable. I would think Sahin a much more likely option. Sterling will get his chances regardless.}

Ed tello is a loan but sahin is permanent {Ed002's Note - Seems unlikely to me, sorry.}

That was a really creative and innovative joke and it made me laugh.

Ed,who is more likely to sign Dempsey or Walcott,and anyone before Saturday? Cheers YNWA94 {Ed002's Note - There is no point asking questions about which player is "more likely" and we cdo not want to be drawn in attempting to state the timings of transfers.}

I wouldnt care if we only signed one more player as long as we got rid of that donkey charlie adam and s##t jay spearing!

'Donkey'?? 'Sh#t'?? The only person who needs to get rid is you. Go and follow another team, loser

Hi eds, i'm abit confused. Rodgers said that we were gonna make 3-4 new signings. we have made 2 already. If we sell carrol which it looks like we ae going to then we wont have any good cover for borini. We are getting a winger because we only have downing and he is not very good and we are getting a loan signing all possible targets not being a striker. If we sell carrol are we gettin another striker to replace him or as rodgers said are we only getting 3-4 players? cheers {Ed002's Note - There is a good chance that Dempsey will arrive.}

14 Aug 2012 08:57:27
we have to voice our support for agger ....the lad wants to stay ....let the owners hear us ....if they do this its the same old yonks to me ...

I too would hate Agger to go, for whatever reason. But not as much as I hate the word 'yonks'. Whoever thought that one up is a complete person.

Is that you Bosco?

14 Aug 2012 08:45:39
Possible and realistic ins and outs:
ins: walcott, johnson, sahin, ramirez, tello, afellay, dempsey. (we wont buy anyone else thats not on this list!)
outs: adam, agger, carroll

ps: xabi alonso rumours are rubbish, as per usual us liverpool fans getting our hopes up.

Ramirez might be off the list. Add Amorebrieta, Godin and Vargas, and you've pretty much summed up the targets..

Drigan {Ed029's Note - I think the key to this is potential targets eg we won't get all of them and us getting one from the two CBs rely on someone leaving first. I think our interest in Vargas has waned}

So we wont sign any defenders to replace Agger, If he leaves.

14 Aug 2012 08:44:11
City promise Everton first dibs on winger Johnson with Liverpool set to miss out

Thank goodness for that -

City can offer Everton the option, but the player still needs to agree to the move. If he rejects the move, the arrangement is worthless.

Everton and Johnson deserver each other.

Everton has just sold them a player without hesitation and we're playing 'hardball' and rejecting their offers for one of our players that they want, so what do you expect?!
I'd prefer to have Walcott than Johnson anyway.

14 Aug 2012 08:44:03
Hi Eds and Liverpudlians

Why on earth are we looking to sell Agger!?

Okay, we can get a whole lot of money, but there is no way we can get someone equally good for less money than were selling him for! And with our "new" style of play we will get even more out of him.

We can get a good CB, no doubt. But we can't get someone thats Liverpool by heart for £23 with the same ability.

Concerned...

Thanks

Norwegian Blob

If I said to you that we are to sign a player for 23million but he will only play 45% of games would you sign him? Lets get real!
John Wigan

That is a completely invalid point as if we signed Agger then we would lose 23m, but we're not so its that we're not gaining 23m!

If Newcastle are only paying 6.7mil for anita why aren't we going in for him he's quality! Him an Lucas in the centre would bring back CL football I'm sure!

We cant buy every player thats signed by every club in europe!

Because, Rodgers plays with one DM.

hi eds
what is the situation with all the rumours for dempsey ramirez tello sahib and walcott we are strongly linked with them then it just fades away.Liverpool are very sloppy in this transfer window.Last summer we made loads of signings. we bought Downing Henderson Bellamy Adam Doni. We bought loads and this summer we have bought 2 people in 2 months. They are really sloppy this summer {Ed002's Note - Nothing has faded away. Efforts are being made.}

WHAT ARE YOU AN person! Buying quantity doesnt guarantee success! It's QUALITY that matter we rushed out to buy Adam, Carroll, Downing and Henderson! An what is happening now? We are looking to sell 2 maybe 3 of the 4! Give it time! BR knows what he is doing and we are being linked with some quality with the potential to be great players! Relax...it will come!

I think they are going to negotiate for better prices unlike last year, or would you prefer we pay 20 m for borini and 25 m for allen and so on. things do move along quicker when you overbid straight away. don't worry everything is in hand as the eds have been saying.

Morning Eds,

I honestly think that spearing and Adam will leave, spearing will be sold so to Adam if we can't negotiate a deal with fulham over Dempsey. I think both Sahin and Tello are realistic loans and I honestly see a future for Carroll at the club. I really hope Brendan doesn't sell Agger, regardless to how much he's worth he's a top defender and loves this club. But the more I read into it I think think it's a possibility that he will be moved on.
What are your thoughts on all the players mentioned? Is there any other players you guys think we may be in for?

Keep the good work up {Ed002's Note - I find it difficult to see how Tello can be a "realistic loan" unless he signs a new contract at Barcelona.}

14 Aug 2012 07:55:17
Agger and Carroll going no-where - Agger does not want to leave and BR has stressed to the board how important he feels he is to the club and his 'new' way of playing.
Carroll will be given until Xmas to prove his worth - BR likes what he has seen to date.

Going - Adam to Fulham / Spearing to West Ham or Southampton / Downing to Spurs or Villa.

In - Walcott (£15m) - Dempsey (£7.5m) - Tello (Loan with option to buy)

14 Aug 2012 07:44:41
Radio city claiming Agger wants to stay and can't imagine playing anywhere else. Still all depends if FSG want to cash in £23+million

They cannot force him to go can they. He has a contract. Club can agree a fee with whoever but if Dagger says no then could stay and run down his contract, leave on a free and we get nothing for him. He did say that he would not want to be at a club that did not want him though!

I see Agger has said he wants to stay at Anfield. That should be an end to the matter then. As Liverpool has said, every player has a valuation and that is fair enough. Obviously if the valuation is met that allows the other club to speak to the player but if the player doesn't want to leave he can price himself out of a move by asking for ridiculous wages. Same thing happened in Scotland with a rangers striker a few years back. Valuation was met but deal broke down down to players demands.

Sounds like the club just need to tell him he is in their plans. Which I'm sure he is. He is our best defender by miles.

14 Aug 2012 07:21:24
I've just seen on SSN that Adam Johnson has has a 'bust up' with Mancini and will not play for City again. Do you think this will prompt us into moving for him? I personally think it'd be a great signing for us, in my opinion he's a much better player then Downing.
Thanks in advance.

He has attitude problems and does not work hard enough for his talent to really make the difference it could. Hence Mancini's stance on him and not starting him regulalry. Would be the same with us....no thanks.
Iggypop

Pretty sure Tevez was never going to play for them again. I really don't like Mancini, seems a total plonker.

14 Aug 2012 07:14:01
Eds, in your opinion who is most likely to sign before the season starts? I'm not getting my hopes up, maybe Dempsey and tello at a push? Also, everything seems to have gone quite on Adam Johnson? Is this because it was purely a made up rumour or did we actually enquire about him as part of a deal involving Daniel Agger?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - We cannot sensibly answer questions about the timing of transfers. The targets are clear but the timings are not.}

14 Aug 2012 07:08:31
ed's, why are the owners trying to force Agger out? I thought Rodgers would have had final say in the matter and apparently he wants Agger to stay

Dempsey speaks out about Liverpool move:

Clint Dempsey is hoping Liverpool finally make a bid for him after the Anfield club snapped up Joe Allen.

Fulham's American international Dempsey is a target for new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, after scoring 23 goals last season.

He did not go on Fulham's pre-season tour to Switzerland, has been training with the youth team.

He has also reportedly clashed with manager Martin Jol and won't be picked for Saturday's opening game of the new season against Norwich .

Now, after seeing Liverpool shell out £15million on Swansea midfielder Allen at the weekend, goal-scoring midfielder Dempsey believes they will move for him.

The 29-year-old has rejected a new deal at Craven Cottage and has his heart set on a move to Anfield.

13 Aug 2012 23:59:24
Eds, any truth that Everton have joined the race to sign Dempsey? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know, sorry.}

14 Aug 2012 07:54:14
I think the situation with Agger, is a very good opportunity for FSG & the Club to make a point to the rest of the premier league, europe etc.
refuse offers which would reinforce the point that they're trying to build a team to compete for titles and trophies, and keeping the top players is part of the way of acheiving this.
I'd hate to see Agger go!

El Diablo!

Would just like to say this about Agger, When playing he is fantastic, but he hasnt played in even half of the games since he signed, this is not going to improve with age, it will get worse. Ask yourself this , What if we keep him then he gets injured in the first game and is out for 4-5 months(which is his average time out a season),we lose out on 2 quality signing we would have made with the money received, will you still think it a good deal to keep him.
In any walk of life to get £20million plus for a player who doesnt play 50% of games per season is a great deal. If you owned the club would you wnat to pay wages on that return. I think not!
John Wigan

14 Aug 2012 07:43:44
The key to our season is keeping Gerrard fit and back playing behind the front players. That's by far his best position. He can dictate play, late runs into the box and be first on the ball when it comes out of defence for his superb striking of the ball. If Suarez and him get close to how he and Torres played together there could be plenty of goals. Not got the defensive responsibility with 2 midfielders behind him so a free reign to totally control the forward play.

Gazza

I agree with what you have said El Diablo, but Gerrard is alot older now so maybe playing him as a box to box midfielder isnt the best idea if we want to keep him fit all season.

14 Aug 2012 03:30:40
With sterling showing so much promise over pre-season, what are the chances of Rodgers not actually signing any of the wingers we are reportedly interested in and showing some faith in sterling? Would surely mean there's funds for maybe a high quality loan deal (tello, sahin, villa etc as some backup incase sterling fails to deliver) as we'd have more money for wages rather than buying someone like Dempsey for 8 or so million and giving him 70 odd grand a week, what are the eds opinions on this?

I think buying dempsey gives time to sterling, so he gets game time, but not that much. dempsey is not that young, 2-3 seasons maybe, enough time for sterling to shine.

Kaizer

Sterling wont be playing 40 games this year

Liverpool are in good spirits right now u can see Rodgers is gettin thru to the players.
If Agger is sold I think it will seriously dampen spirits.

Players are more realistic than Fans, they understand how Football works, after all most transfers are player driven. Aggers different but he knows a good offer needs to be assessed!

i think if we let go of agger i think its a disgrace, we need to strengthen the squad and not sell our best players to our rivals. we dont need the money we can wait until next summer. honestly we dont make enough money selling players e.g bellamy (free) aqualani (5.5 mil) not good enough to be honest

hey ed's great site. Anyway just wondering if we do happen to get Sahin will it be a loan or permanent? {Ed049's Note - most likely loan.}

14 Aug 2012 00:53:13
, twitter account.

Has had a lot too say for himself, I'm not sure of his sources, but will be interesting too see if he is reliable.

He is claiming!

Tello deal is close.

Demsey fee is agreed, and includes Adam (waiting for Charlie to agree to the move).

Great chance of Sahin, with the player considering his options in these coming days.

Both Agger and Skrtel will sign new contracts.

Adam Johnson is 2nd choice after Tello, and Walcott is 3rd choice.

Ramirez intrest was not followed up with a bid.

he also believes we are keeping tabs on Butland and De Vries.

He seems to be posting every half an hour, and answers a lot of questions.

I am intriqued to find out if he comes up with the goods.

If what he is saying comes true, we will potentially have a very strong squad.

Cant wait for the season to kick-off, looking promising.

Pug.

right?

Ed why do we keep having sarcastic reposts by nameless people to posts like this.

Kopping a feel {Ed002's Note - I agree it is all nonsense pulled from a Twitter account - some of it correct and some wrong. But it is neither sarcastic nor anonymous. At least the Ed put it in banter}

Sorry it cut off the top bit.

This is from . on twitter.

I read a lot of rumours on twitter and generally think it is all BS, but this guy has a lot to say for himself.

And it all kind of makes sense.

So how on earth is it sarcastic.

14 Aug 2012 00:36:37
So it appears that spurs have made a bid for G. Ramirez though is that reliable information? I'm hoping its not true, I'd love to get Ramirez here and I always thought that getting Sahin would be very difficult and unlikely though you guys are saying that we are actually in the running for it? Hopefully we can also let charlie adam go with dempsey coming this way which I am guessing will happen later on in the window. I'm hoping we will get Ramirez by submitting the required money and the possibly of Sahin here on loan would be fantastic with Adam and Spearing perhaps leaving and Dempsey coming here. I think that would be three great additions along clearing out those two along with keeping Carrol and Agger! Hopefully this can happen. Great site.

14 Aug 2012 00:30:55
M Suarez and G Ramirez would get us at least to 3rd place this season for sure!

Well neither are coming...

Dempsey, Tello more likely.

Is that just because they've got fancy names or have you seen a lot of them playing? Personal opinion is that RamirezIs a good player but has been hyped up too much on this site and if we signed him I don't believe he would live up to the hype

14 Aug 2012 00:16:55
Mattias Suarez would be a far better option than Walcott or AJ, He has it all, only thing would be lack of premier league experience.

And his ability to work in the country.

I have to admit I am delighted with summer so far and I feel next week most our ins and departures will be completed. Borini and allen are top signings, and going by the ever consistant Macca more quality players to follow like Tello, Sahin and Dempsey. Based on my analaysis of the site I think Sahin will be signed before our game against West Brom on Sunday. ProbBLY in england thursday have medical and shown to the public Friday? However a major problem I see is with the Dempsey deal.

I have a funny feeling Everton are going to snatch him from under our noses since they have just sold Rodwell and have the cash. I personally see this as a 50-50 decision as he is old and the price Fulham are looking from him is crazy for 29years. 15mil as quoted wud be better spent on Ramierez or AJ. One last point I dont think we will sell Big Andy. i Fell he has so much to offer and is really making an effort becoming leaner and fitter for the new season.

We need to give the lad a break he still is only 23. and finally agger wont go. especially since e coming out in public saying he dosent want to leave, we really need him as there is not much better out there that will come cheap. Please post eds as I want to hear your thoughts and the thoughts of fellow fans as I feel we are all thinking along the same path.
Cheers eds and Macca as ever

Everton snatch Dempsey?? Are you having a laugh, he is looking to progress in his career, not go backwards.

There is no more ramirez hes joining inter milan next week, clint dempsey is joining lfc in the next 2days, sahin might be joining in the next 2 days, if we lose out on adam johnson by tomorrow to sunderland because he wants playing time and lfc cant offer him that i can confirm that theo walcott will be joining for 14million he will be travelling with lfc to watch the west brom match we hope to get him in for the manchester city game, and daniel first game for manchester city will be against lfc we might swap lescott for agger plus money thats only happening if we lose out on johnson, andy carrol will be leaving in january BR wants to give him a chance to prove his self and it will be to ac milan because big andy wants CL football and it might be a swap deal plus money, BR have said today that we are having a major loan deal or it might be a premant deal and this player have not hit it off i. The last 4years one of the beat ST in the world but he been off the boil in the last couple of seasons and he might be the part of the deal for CARROL name is ALEXANDRO PATO. ACMILAN been trying to get rid of him the last 2 seasons because of the lack of goaland BR have said he be happy to work and get him back to his best if it helps he offer PATO a contract. Hi Ed's inside sources inform me brendan rodgers is very close to signing christian tello on a season long loan as barca are reluctant to sell and tello is open to a loan move to get more playing time, what a signing that would be and our front 3 os suarez, borini and tello, what do you think ed's have you heard anything?

Inside sources or the daily mirror mate?

Why would they loan a player with one year left on his contract ?? so he can walk away for nothing at the end of the year , i can see why you didnt sign your name on this post , you should call yourself 'dippy'...........andy.

you heard it here RedMount

13 Aug 2012 23:20:30
I don't like all this talk of Agger leaving.
Here's 3 reasons why he should stay.

1. He loves the club.
2. He want to play for the club.
3. He's one of the best defenders in Europe.

It's refreshing to see a player showing so much loyalty towards a football club, especially when there has been interest from 'Barcelona' and 'man city'.

If I understand correctly, Aggers future lays in the hands of the owners. I hope they send out the right message and show some loyalty to him. He has to stay at Liverpool.

Surely he can dig his heels in a reject a contract from the other said club?

If the manager wants to keep him & he wants to stay anyone else at the club should keep out of it, the manager should be the one with the final word on players

13 Aug 2012 23:19:28
Skrtel has been offered a contract, fully expecting him to accept it and pen a new four year deal.

Negotiations with Agger's agent have commenced today, again, it's looking certain that he will stay.

Rodgers pushing for Walcott, is a big fan of him, Theo is interested in the move, but we won't be paying over the odds because he's on the last year of his contract and wants a fair amount of wages.

Adam is going to Fulham as part of a deal which sees Dempsey come here, that will free up space in the squad for Sahin to join who is very close. Is impressed with Rodgers plans for the club despite no CL. Alonso, Arbeloa and Mourinho have put in good words about Rodgers and the Club.

Horan

Got to say we've sold/got rid of a lot of players that were on a lot of wages and not necessarily playing week in week out that were also on high weekly wages.

In all sorry to see Bellamy go and personally would prefer for him to stay and Joe Cole go.

Like most of you I'd be sorry to see Agger go but huge money given his injury problems and its something i'd be prepared for especially if it brings in a forward and replacement for Agger.

When u look at the team we have a lot of young quality players both 1st teamers and subs and reserve players.

Must say I hope we play well and that we get off to a good start in the league so the negative bunch dont jump on the owners, manager and team.

Can't wait for WBA although results against them haven't been great in recent years.

Hoping for Sahin and a couple of players capable of playing in the top 3 of the team (wide or lone striker), we might surprise some people this year.. heres hoping :o)

Hey eds how great would it be to see Ramirez dempsey and Tello sign with Sahin on loan with an option to buy. If we made these 4 crucial sigmings i believe we could break into the top 4

Bearing in mind LFC are not City or Chelsea and have to balance the books do LFC fans agree with the concept that 'every player has his price'? Following on from that is there a figure that fans would accept is a good price to receive for Agger?

Personally I agree with the concept and suggest a figure of £30m.

If you disagree with the concept would £50m change your mind?

30m no, 50m yh. Agger is unique, a 1 of a kind player. Plus he is loyal, something which is hard to find in players these days.

Yes they do but why sell one of the most loyal to a club in the same league. Sorry but I dont want to improving City's defence either. The thing is you want to keep players like Agger and not give them away as the club obviously means a lot to him.

wolcott will not joining liverpool.... he is due to sign new contract. great news in my eyes... with rio ferdinand he could be one of the most over rated players in the prem... why spend 15 million on someone with no end product or give sterrling a proper go... rant over...also heard agger will only leave if city offer 15 million and johnson on permanent deal.. keep up great work

Agree that Rio is overrated. Disagree to the rest.

Don't need Johnson thanks, you all say Aggers injured a lot well Johnson is the same and has a terrible attitude. Walcott is a much better player and sorry call him what you like but 8 goals 11 assists and a lot of pace more assist than any of our squad last year.

Agger must stay, period.

Yeah what is it with us - we seem to pay more for players than other teams. 15m for Allen - really?! Thats a tad inflated isn't it?

What I enjoy about Rodgers is that he is taking none of us for mugs he talks well and I enjoy his honesty, his interview from a few weeks back were he basicaly said he wants Agger to stay but Money will always talk and if the offer comes in they have to look at whats best for the club.

I know this late but i bring it up because of Arsene Wenger and the RVP he keeps going on about how he an Arsenal player and will stay such until and offer comes in and that he wants him to stay, like he did with Fabergas and Nasri. He never comes out and says that a player will go the moment the money comes in. Or nor is he a Fergie everything is not his fault man. He is honest and I appreiciate that. - McMenemy

Yeah and what if the money or offers dont come in for carroll or agger, rodgers will look a bit silly wont he,2 players by opening his mouth has let them know he doesnt want them, that will add a great atmosphere to the dressing room wont it,and furthermore they might then dig their heels in and run down their contracts and leave on a free, that would be good aswell wouldnt it,they dont call arsene wenger the proffessor for nothing, the little said the easier mended

Actually he said every player has their price!

He was only talking about Agger and Carroll because they were the ones with offers coming in at the time.
Juventus were sniffing around Suarez but we all know they like to try to unsettle players and put in terrible bids and try to get them on the cheap.

Every player has their price and that is a fact so how does that make the man look silly.

Kopping a feel

I keep reading posts about Adam Johnsons bad attitude and partying but I have never read anything about it in any papers. Last year there were complaints about Carroll which were unfounded so where is the Johnson info coming from ?
McB

Seen Carroll out loads, just because it's not in the papers doesn't mean it's not happening

People inside City I think not heard about partying but attitude and one to cause arguments in the dressing room is what I have heard tbh, I'd avoid him hes injury prone and hasn't played a full season in how long.

If we get rid of agger it could effect us badly. For the first time in quite a few years we have a solid partnership at the back which is a valuable thing! please somebody speak to the owners about this!

I'll get on the phone now see what I can do;-)

Heard of us finalizing a deal for sahin and medical on Wednesday. However Ramirez leaving to Inter Milan not LFC.
Also i hear we have had a respectable bid for Dempsey accepted and deal to go through in the next week.
Can u confirm or deny either of these?
