no im none of them i forgot to sign off last time its JG here and i responded to one of your posts not so long go about you making fun of the new lad suarez mocking his teeth its just a little taste of your own medicene and a bit of banter as you see it, peace out blair.JG
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
That puts my mind at rest JG. I was worried that it was one of the above. Because they've all had it in for me for some reason.

Now that you've seen Luis and his teeth, what do you think mate. Scared or Impressed?

Blair Mayne YNWA

i think its a bit nasty mate. you'd expect that sort of carry on from toffee or manure fans, i wonder why so many have it in for you?hmm goodnight blair nothing more to say. mocking is catching, good luck mate. JG

Cracking result from the youngsters tonight with sterling netting five times, i think a big hand has to go to Rodolfo Borrell, seems to be doing a fantastic thing with the young lads, and i'm sure he used to train, messi, bojan, fabreglass, arteta to name a few. liverpool certainly have some canny staff these days!

Squad numbers: 1 2 4 5 6 8 10 12 14 16 17 18 21 22 23 24 25 26 28 33 34 37 38 41 49
So, once and for all, there is no Luis Suarez and also no Andy Carroll

you'd think that if you went to all that trouble to list the europa squad them you'd see that carroll is named in the squad, just check uefa's site ya plonker! !

Just because I as wrong it doesn't make me a bad person! I apologise for my error regarding Carroll - I merely wanted to point out that Suarez wasn't eligible. By the way, the first word of a sentence and a Christian name both begin with capital letters -as does UEFA and there is no word ya in the English language - perhaps you meant You - Plonker! !

Ed if liverpool win the europa and the super cup do they get a spot in the CL i don't know where this is cummin from but im sure iv heard it before you heard out? {ed's note - as far as I can find out it is just wishful thinking, winning the Europa qualifies you for the Europa League the following season. Winning the Super Cup gives you a pretty trophy for the cabinet and a nice day out.}

What is this rubbish about Glen Johnson, were is he going to play when we get a good left back? I'll tell you were at right back were he plays for England. Kelly is a fabulous young star in the making but Glen is an experience international getting back to form under the tutor ledge of king Kenny.

Suppot our quality young players

Hodgson has already said he doesn't believe west broms squad is not good enough?? Has he learnt nothing? Next he will criticise the fans. . The guy may be a nice man, but he desperately needs a better publicist to filter his poor comments. Soo glad the King is back, eventhough Roys gone his comments still echo his time on merseyside. . Terrifying reminder of a dark time.

Can't believe we're being linked with Kevin Prince Boatang.
Don't like the look of the lad, especially for the £12 - 13m being mentioned. Surely Turan would be worth a punt instead for around the same amount. He has much more to his game than Boatang imo.
Have seen Boatang numerous times now & never seen him take a game by the scruff of the neck.
Fingers crossed its newspaper B.S.

Torres only had a formidable scoring rate at anfield. His away record is poor. Good luck to chelsea with cause without anfield to play at torres is just an average striker. Raheem sterling is boss and i hope to see him at anfield in the europa league next week (this week is too soon) especially to rest some players for west ham.

Does anybody know by what kind of amounts the TV rights deals are going to affect club coffers when it comes to renegotiating and when do these negotiations start? And does this pave the way for a massaging of club finances by the likes of City and the Chavs with mega money tenders being tabled by 'newly formed' broadcasting companies?

{Editor's Note: Not just yet but there are other expoitation issues that will kick in over the next three to four years and Liverpool, and to be fair Arsenal, are well placed to make the most of them.}

Oh dear!
Torres has another mare!
Ah well!
He really seems to have lost something for now!
He's lost a half yard of pace for definite over the first few yards. Not nearly as explosive as he used to be.
Michael Owen mark 2 perhaps?!
Injuries are probably taking their toll now.
He'll find his feet eventually i'm sure but certainly not worth the £50m anymore :)
Nice one KK.

If qatar billionare take over Manchester United. Reina will be Fergie first target.

He will do everything to payback on Dalglish for what happen during Shearer transfer.

Shearer refused to play for United and choose Magpies coz Daglish was there.

What a load of rubbish Shearer chose Newcastle because it is his home town club

the rift between King Kenny and ferguson goes back to Glenn Hys ns transfer from Fiorentina.

Hysen had shaken hands with united on a £300,000 deal, but it went a bit wobbly

so martin edwards and ferguson flew out to italy to sort the deal out, only to

be told by hysens agent that he had signed for Liverpool, and as for Kenny or the club

getting bullied by anbody ( especially man utd ) you can forget that,

Deano95

I think he is mixed up with the Roy Keane saga between Dalglish, Keane, and Fergie, remember Keane had agreed a switch to Blackburn, Fergie brought him to his house, Keane then turned his back on Blackburn and Kenny and joined the Mancs. .

Sterling is potentially our next big thing but Coady has played superb tonight also, as has Morgan who has some set of lungs on him - runs his heart out!
Sterling just needs to develop a little physically perhaps & we can see him down the wings for us straight away.
Wonder is that why Kenny didn't break his back in January to sign a winger?! If we stabilize in 6th place i think we'll see Sterling before the end of the season.
Ed, are Southend youths a lower division youth side like their senior team or just in a different youth league section. Just trying to gauge Sterling & Coady's performances tonight.

Ya i take nothing for granted believe me but Sterling has something natural & special about him.
Potentially he could be a top top player as we all have seen countless times now. Really hope he is given a game or 2 before the season ends.
Like maybe 20 mins in one game & maybe an hour or so in a second game then next season he gets a good pre-season hopefully & becomes a regular sub with the odd start depending on opposition.
Any idea who scouted him from QPR?
I assume it was the Spanish head scout?
His name eludes me right now. Whoever did deserves a pay rise lol.
Cheers,

So what if Reina leaves, as Kenny said previously, the club is the biggest thing, players come and go, so everyone stop this rumour mungoring.

Even if he did leave for 20-30 million then there's enough fine British goalkeepers to fill his boots.

Scott Loach at Watford, Wayne Hennessey at Wolves and even Ben Foster are capable consistant Goalkeepers, probably all available at 10-12 million.

Admittadly Reina has been our most consistant player but everyone does have there price, look at Torres.

So stop worrying and trust in Kenny, two months ago we were 3 points off relegation.

Walk on

I'm just watching the kids like most of you and am very, very impressed with them. But i think now that we are 6-0 up that maybe we should back off a bit. This result could be really, really demoralising for the kids from Southend. This is just what i think, i know some of you will disagree. So be nice, no names please.

I know its too early to start spitting out names of summer targets, but in my mind (not claiming to be an expert by the way) I think we need 5 players coming in.

What I think we need is as follows:

Left back - Straight in to 1st 11
Centre back - For cover
Centre midfield - For cover
Left wing - Straight in to 1st 11
Right wing - Straight in to 1st 11

This would also allow Mr. Dalglish to remove some overpaid players that are just not quite up to the Liverpool standard.

Please feel free to suggest names for the above, and values, but for me its going to cost around £50million plus what we get from player sales!

Anyone agree?

I agree that we need players in these positions and my picks (for what it's worth) would be as follows (most would be in my first 11)
LB. Santon
CB. Lovren
CM. Pjanic
LM. Turan
RM. Sanchez
Would also like to see Honda and Lucas Barrios Its a big wish list but if we got half of them I would be delighted! Opinions please

Youth team already 3-0 up the future really is bright.

Sterling already has two great goals in front of the Kop within 20 minutes in the FA Youth Cup match vs Southend. He really is a fantastic talent.

Coady also just scored a penalty in the 24th minute.

and he gets his hat trick in the 34th

Don't like the situation with Reina. I am sure he is basically saying he will leave if we do not make top 4, which we wont. Players shouldnt hold us to ransom. Start lining up a replacement now. These unloyal spanish s**tes! !

I still fancy Stekelenburg or Neuer. No more spanish plz.

Yes, cause like the other spanish player who left, he would save his best performance for the club he was trying to impress and move to! ! He will leave, start looking for replacement now. Neuer for me. He is outstanding.

im all for anfield being redeveloped but lets go the whole hog we must have a 70-80,000 seater stadium because we can fill it easily also while the work is being done im in favor of us moving out and playing our home games at goodison park so what its the bluenoses ground we will still get 40,000 plus each game and they could do with some much needed cash lets look at the long term here we can have the stadium done in under 2years if we vacate while work is being done what do you lot think

I don't see why there is an assumption that a new left back would mean Johnson leaving. We need to build a strong squad to compete with the other top sides and that means strength in depth, not just about a first eleven. your thoughts ed?

I'm confused then Ed. Because NESV have a lawyer representing them, so that H&G will not be able to sue them in the states. But now if the decision goes RBS, Broughton and NESV's way then the only place H&G can sue them would be in Britain. If i've got it wrong mate could you correct me please?

Blair Mayne YNWA

{Editor's Note: The case falls in to three parts. Firstly, H&G are looking for agreement of the courts for claims to be made against (a) RBS, (b) Broughton, (c) Purslow, (d) Ayres. Secondly, Broughton, Puslow and Ayres are each seeking protection from being liable financially for any of the matters related to the sale of the club and therefore from any claim from the previous owners. Finally, NESV are seeking protection from being subject to any claim - although there is currently no claim against them and if there were it would not be anything to do with the club itself. In the first instance, H&G may well have a very good claim against RBS. However, their claims against the three directors could well be set aside. I would expect NESV to be excluded from any proceedings except as witnesses. But there is no claim against the club or for which the club could end up paying for.}

Whats is their main stadium exit thing. Ive not heard of a train or underground thing.

I think if we don't fininsh fourth Pepe will want to leave and if he puts a transfer request we should offer him to Barcelona rather than take a bid from another English team as its probably the only area of Barca's team that needs improving as he is light years ahead of Victor Valdes. We should ask for either straight cash or a p/ x with Bojan Krkic

Red Dan

Pepe Reina has played for Barcelona before. He was sent to Villareal to make way for Victor Valdes and others including the Turkish national keeper. Very rarely do Barcelona buy back players who have had some time playing for the Barcelona first team.
I would hate him to leave Liverpool. But what about United signing Julio Cesar from Inter Milan in the summer and then Inter offer £20m+ for Reina? Out of the country and out of my view.

Hey eds! Was watching the wigan game during the weekend, and the commentators started talking about the qualification for the europa league and said that Liverpool have a good shout too reach one of the spots for Europa! he said that 5th and 6th would get us a Europa spot, but as I recall you get Europa from 5th to 8th spot! Has the rules changed this season? Would appreciate an answer! Cheers!

{Editor's Note: Only 5th in the league gets a space, the other two places go to the Carling Cup and FA Cup winners. But, if Arsenal win the Carling cup and end up top four, then 6th gets in and equally, if one of the top 6 wins the FA cup, 7th gets in as well.}

If and I stress IF we lose reina in the summer we should get Neuer and then it will not be such a loss after all.
On another note, the interview held with Phil neville about his possible departure in January, and why did he not just hand in a transfer request, he answered by saying LOYALTY is a the most important thing for him and that everton said no straight away he respects the club and manager. There is a lot for torres to learn from someone I thought was spam but still has more principles than torres.

thanks

hibsylfc {Editors note: your right, loyalty is rare these days}

People work for money, if you want loyalty buy a dog. {ed's note - I hope you remember that the next time Torres or Mash play against us and give them a big cheer for choosing the money over loyalty. And Owen, MacManaman and all the other mercenaries that have ripped the club apart in recent years.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

But Ed I have noticed that out of all the players that have left us in the last decade, none has gone on to win bigger things. . . . .

Alonso
Mascherano
Riera
Arbeloa
Owen

People might say that Owen or Macherano have won things but then they do not play week in week out. . . They just warm the bench. . . .

Same for Alonso. . . .he won't win anything (league or UCL) as long as Guardiola manages Barca. . . .

14 Feb 2011 16:48:15
When it comes to anfield's expansion people are talking about adding 15-20,000 seats. that's like adding a bloomfield road on top of of the ground. could the foundations take it i doubt it. mind i hope im wrong because making anfield bigger would be fantastic, to keep the tradition, the passion and the atmosphere would be ideal. plus it would be loads cheaper and a hell of alot quicker.
to built a new ground would take what? about 3-4 years. so stevie probably would'nt be playing there, maybe that's more symbolic than anything else, new capitan, new ground, new era.
if there is a new ground hopefully its more of Amsterdam Arena or The Emirates in terms of looks rather than just big like St James or Old Toilet.

ed do you think staying at Anfield is possible or do you think the club should move on?

He only has 18mths left on his contract as well. So forget this £15mill price knocking about we should be able to get him for 7/ 8Mill and at the price he's a good option. Gives us more money to spend on a couple of wingers. But if we do buy a left back then where is Glen Johnson going to play? Kellys not going to be dropped at the moment is he

"The Madness of King Roy XXVI"

Saturday was soemthing of a revelation: Suarez looked very sharp and his aggressive movement off the ball and his willingness to 'get stuck in' vilifed the exhortations of the Ajax management who suggested we were buying a 'street fighter.' This can only be good for us in 2011-12.

Less impressive was the continuing ability we seem to have lost to 'kill off' a game in the second half. This was never really our strong point in the 80s - we invariably pounced in the last quarter of the game to kill off the opposition. We seem to have stumbled badly in this area over the past three years.

Before I move on to other areas, I must say I was impressed with the performance of Christoper Samba for Blackburn the other day: I wonder if he is a better option for us than Ryan Shawcross?

I listened to Keys & Gray on talkSPORT this morning. I was not impressed. Dull - and I mean monotonously dull in tone and presentation - it was furher dragged down by the addition of special guest, Ray Wilkins. I abhor the 'my old pal, ' 'he's a good mate of mine, ' sh*ep these people come out with. Wilins kept referring to Keys as Keysie - a good old mate and he wanted us to know it. Embarrassing and trite drivel. I would prefer to listen to Alan Hansen (another no-no normally for me) and his endless "sensational" and "utterly amazing" drivel. I have said this before - we do not need pundits. They add virtually nothing to what we know about the game. They can only add views and there are enough of them from people in the supermarket, train and wine bar.

Ed - Seeing how Luis Suarez cannot feature in the Europa League, can he feature for the reserves to keep up his match fitness? Ed - What are chances of Cole being fit for Thursday? As an aside I hope Pacheco gets to start the match and play in the hole.

{Editor's Note: Suarez can play for the reserves but I would be most surprised if he does - the risk of injury would be too high. Cole will not be fit for a couple of weeks or so.}

Hodgson: "I can keep Baggies up"
If you get your new team to start playing negative, defensive, long ball dross that you made us suffer with under your tenure you haven't a hope in hell keeping them up Roy. NOT A HOPE!
Then I suppose you can always put your possible impending relegation down to it "not being your team"!

Hey Ed, I am interested to know if there were any other Liverpool targets in the recent transfer window that weren't completed or have gone under the radar?

Also regarding the buyout of Man United, I heave heard from a source that some of the directors and upper management of ManU have all recently have had contracts renewed but under the stipulation that they are no longer directly employed by the club but to the Glazers in order that when and not if a buyout comes then the top boys continue to work on the Glazers sporting empire. Have you heard any news along these lines, or are you able to shed any light on this?

the only thing wrong with gettin a new stadium i think is re-creatin the atmosphere, i mite get slated for sayin this but it isn't anfield itself that has the atmosphere its the fans an if we could still have the passion an the songs an the general match day buzz but on a larger scale then why not in a new stadium, if we did build new then it'd hav to be spectacular, like nothin else totally new an original

I think Liverpool & Everton should groundshare.
This way both clubs can grow bigger.
LFC can help one of their main rivals out of a jam,
LFC can help to make EFC a bigger better club,
LFC can stop EFC from getting relegated
Don't worry that the pitch would be dug to pieces after EFC play their rugby matches on it.
The anti LFC media would be happy with this arrangement. The stadium could probably be painted blue to help with this matter. Actually LFC could start wearing blue and join up with Everton, yes I think the pro-spam media would have that.

Red Dan

we shud offer him to city in a straight swap for joe hart if he wants to leave

So 2 of your 3 points we haven't yet suceeded in. So I've got a point then? According to your words anyway? I'd love 60 thou stadium as it gives me more oppertunity to go. I even got to the derby this season as it was on general sale. Can't ever remember that happening before for me to be able to even go.

Spriggo,
It won't always be dark at 6 mate. Strange things have happened recently. The bad economy, X-Factor, Andy Gray, Hicks & Gillette, Jonathan Ross & Russel Brand, Spice Girls, Jordan, Hodgson as LFC manager, Repo's, Torres trying to bit**slap us, Fat Dunc, The S** rag, Tory government, I'm a celeb, pop music, stabbings, Scum winning things, Bluenoses taking 4 points from us. . . and on and on and on. Based on the last 6 months when we nearly went into administration, ousted the dopes with a precise inside coup, replaces RH with the KING and added 2 top class strikers.

The fans have been fed up all season. Considering KK was made interim manager, flew in the morning of the Scum FA cup game, had 3 days to prepare for Blackpool and followed up with Bluenoses I'm not surprised you got tickets on general sale. You won't get tickets for Scum, Citeh or Spudz on general sale i suspect.

Redevelopment means jobs and a boost for Anfield area. A new or re-developed stadium means more money will be generated by the club. The economy will turn around in a year or two. Believe me we will fill a 65000 stadium. Have Faith Spriggo.

Hey Ed, was hoping you could enlighten me on Andy Carroll's injury.

Could you describe what exactly the injury is and around about how long it will take for him to get back to full match fitness. I don't seem to find any detailed information on his injury and recovery period.

We played really well against Wigan and Suarez has shown what amazing qualities he has. He is certainly a street fighter! I'm just dying to see Carroll up front with Suarez, as I feel had he been there against Wigan, we'd certainly have put in a few more.

Reddie Sixx {ed's note - I am not entirely sure how long it will take him to regain match fitness, it was an injury that failed to respond to initial treatment and had to be operated on. It will really depend on the lad himself as to how long until he is back playing, if he has taken care of himself, and worked hard on basic fitness, it will not take him long at all. But if he has let himself go a bit it could take weeks before he regains fitness. The problem is that the injury happened very near to the knee apparently, there is not much blood flow in that area (according to the medical experts I have been reading anyway) which slows recovery time down.}

LFC could easily fill a 60-65K stadium regularly. You have to have just 3 ingredients for that to happen. 1 is a big fan base. Check. The 2nd is a good product on the field. nearly there for a 2nd check. Finally you need a team that competes for silverware. when box 2 get checked this will happen. A new or redeveloped Anfield would become a center of curiosity for all. it would bring back the days of the 70's and 80's. More locals would go if they had the surety of seasons tickets. More OOT would come knowing they could get match day tickets. The ability to travel and get accommodation is much more a reality than it was 20 years ago. 20 thousand extra would mean millions of pounds extra for the city of Liverpool and a Million pounds extra for LFC for every home game. Scums new capacity coincided with them being successful, The Gooners too. "Build it and they will come". As a club with one of the biggest fan bases through out the world, it won't be an issue. the only key is to keep the KOP end and all that is great and unique about it.

Well Said Chi-Paul. We would definitely be filling the stadium week in week out. There is no doubt about it. We are the REDS.

Is anyone sick of these Reina stories, just as much as me? I read a post on here yesterday saying we should show Pepe how much he means to us. Why should we? If Pepe already dosn't know that, then he's thicker than i thought. IF Pepe dosn't want to play for us then that's his problem not ours. So why should we show him how much we want him to stay, IF he dosn't want to. Should we go to his house or Melwood and get on our knees and beg him to stay?

We are not Man'ure nor Man'ure fans , so we will not be begging any player to stay (just like they did with Shrek). Shrek brought Fergie, Man'ure and their fickle fans to their knees. Would you like to see that happen at LFC? Even if Messi was at our club, then decided he didn't want to play for us then so be it.

I used to think Liverpool would also fill a 60,000 seater venue fortnightly easily. Then I saw the Bolton attendance, 35,000. I read Dalglish: My Liverpool Home in which he says you need a good level of success to sustain such an idea. It is fine having a huge waiting list but asking people to part with their money when it comes to it and that number will be reduced significantly. We need 60,000 filled every other week to bring in revenue that's for deffo but I don't think its a foregone conclusion that it would be sold out every other week. Obviously we are all hoping the side is on the up now but I'm just making a point.

I have a question for ed?
how many people are on the waiting list for a season ticket?
if we get a new ground/ anfield how full could it be? {ed's note - the last I heard there were a ridiculous number of people on the waiting list, I think it was 100k. Though how many of those would be people using family members to get extra tickets or would be unable to take up a ticket due to changes in circumstances I have no idea. I certainly see no reason to look at building a new ground if it is not at least 60k capacity with the possibility of extending that in the future.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I have been on the waiting list for the last 8 years and I have mates that have been on there for at least 15 years. The waiting list is pretty much never going to reduce untill the new ground is built or Anfield extended. One things for certain Liverpool would fill a 60,000 seater quite easily.

henry has almost said that there won't be a new stadium, in no arcitect but it does look like anfield cud grow any bigger, i hope im wrong because we'd fill an 80,000 seater

It is precisely for this reason that I believe our best option is to move to a new stadium on Stanley Park. We need a stadium that is 75,000 all seater with the room to expand that if needs be, complete with open areas outside for coaches etc. Anfield can conceivably be expanded to 60,000 but no more than that. In addition it's inside a fairly tightly built area and to make it much bigger will be a nightmare on match days in the surrounding roads as all those extra people are milling about.

It's a wrench, but we have to be realistic about future revenue especially now we are owned by a company that intend to run us as a profitable business rather than a rich man's toy. The extra size we can get on Stanley Park is the equivalenmt of buying an extra world class player a year for cash and paying his wages.

Personally I don't want Everton to get relegated, I love the Derby matches, I know the hatered for each others club is off the scale but all of us have mates who are bitter blues and the night out after a derby game is one of the best youll have, Its why liverpool is a great city the two sets of fans are mates and there is no better banter than at a Deby game.

After watching the Wigan game, I was so impressed at Suarez. . his movement, his dedication and ability, something Wigan couldn't really handle.

Now introducing another striker that worries defenses, with a physical presence and touch that puncture through the opposition I think the 2 players that will really benefit from their introduction will be Gerrard and Meireles, benefit in the same way Lampard benefited from a redhot Drogba. I think next season will see Gerrard and Meireles have the seasons of their careers.

I really enjoyed the game at the weekend, I havent watched Wigan much this year but if they normally perform like that they should not be in the bottom 4.

My reading of the UEFA eligibility rule is that Suarez is currently not eligible for the Europa League but if and when Ajax get knocked out then he will be eligible for subsequent rounds.

Does anyone KNOW whether this is the case?

If it is, then come on Anderlecht!

Bob

{Editor's Note: No it is not the case. You cannot simply switch players in and out. A squad is named for the first batch of games; and then at the end of the transfer window and prior to the next batch, the squad can be tweaked. Ajax are in the Europa league; ergo Suarez is not.}
