all the best to him.

He was signed as a promising youngster, bale of Ireland .
Lots of top clubs including Real Madrid were interested in signing him, instead he chose Liverpool. He shone as no 10 when he was left back . , can anyone explain what happened to him? Why did he fall out?

Hi Eds

Just wondering.

Who in your opinion (s) is actually available, at a good price, that can actually improve the team during this window?

I'd guess none, due to the timing of the window. But, like the vast majority of the supporting public, I really have no idea and would like to know what you think. please?

As always, I doff my hat to all your work.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to any fantasy football stuff, sorry.}

15 Jan 2017 16:51:55
Oh ok. Get what you mean.

Didn't mean it as "fantasy football" - just it is always written that: *insert whoever* is available in January at a ridiculous price, therefore not worth it.

Or is it just not possible in football today that anyone can actually be "worth it".?

It's funny, coz right now an £89m Paul Pogba can't even follow a man at a corner.

14 Jan 2017 19:29:46
Some basic sports psyc for ya'll - how to deal with pressure? Just focus on what we can control. Only our own preparation and performance. Narrowing focus down to those things will help, all of which we have no control over!

Believable9 Unbelievable1

14 Jan 2017 20:20:59
Spot on, Faith. But you know many on here always wanna control the outcomes of everything, knowing fully well that outcomes can never be totally controlled not just in life but especially in football.

However, luck is often defined as "when preparation meets opportunity". Hence, focus 110% on your preparation and you`ll be ready to pounce as soon as the opportunity arrives.

14 Jan 2017 21:49:12
I think we can safely assume that the Manc players will be fired up tomorrow.
As long as we show the same passion, determination, aggression and desire to win. we should have enough to beat them.

Come on lads. YNWA

14 Jan 2017 18:57:12
Chelsea look impressive, they have that feel good factor about them this season. Top4 is realistic for us.

We still have fairly average players in our first team and not convinced that we will batter every team in the league as some people on here think.

So even if United beat us tomorrow it will not hurt our top 4 target, but it will hurt our pride.

Lallana is the only stand out player from the Rodgers days that seems to have evolved as a player under klopp.

The rest are still pretty much the same or if not worse than what I remember them to be so hoping Klopp breaks this box that he seems to have put himself in, let loose, be ruthless, make this team what he needs it to be even if it means getting rid of big names with small contribution to this team.

I think we have past the honeymoon period where he tried to work with those that were here. We clearly lack the correct players to fulfil the role that klopps style is calling for.

We have now come into the important part of the season, the part that really counts, and despite the way we started the season, when it matters, this team hasn't so far produced since Christmas fixtures.

14 Jan 2017 19:10:14
The excuse parade is here. It doesn't matter what they have got, what matter is how we play tomorrow. On what authority do you think UTD are certain to win against us?
Zeddius, Are you not reading this POSITIVE post mate?

14 Jan 2017 19:13:02
I think we will win 2 1, lallana and Bobby. come on u reds!

14 Jan 2017 19:14:37
Is this a wind up. He has improved nearly every player from the Rodgers era bar Moreno. Coutinho, Henderson, Lallana, Lovern, Origi have all improved. Please explain what box Klopp is in because if your implying Klopp is defensive minded it must be you that has been living in a box for the last 15 months.

14 Jan 2017 19:21:57
Harry, I understand your belief in if we play well, but what if we don't? What if we carry the recent form into tomorrow. Isn't it a bit short sighted basing your argument on what if rather than what is?
We can continue hiding in a corner praying 'please please please play well' while the teams around us are picking up momentum and winning games consistently.

14 Jan 2017 19:33:30
Where is this ruthless klopp we were told about, this klopp that unearths gems. Still havnt seen that. Last year he was pitch side almost biting the players ears off when they lost the ball or was not contributing to the game. Havnt seen that passionate side to him recently. That is the box I am talking about, him accepting some of the crap we have seen. I am saying that he should be who he is.

Because we were getting the results and the response from the players when he was the passionate klopp we know him to be.

14 Jan 2017 19:38:27
You talk like an Everton Fan :p

14 Jan 2017 19:50:27
Zal

If we play anything like previous games then we will loose and that's something Klopp and the boys are well aware. More than us they know what they would need to do tomorrow. There is no hiding tomorrow. Liverpool will play like Liverpool tomorrow. As I see there is no Messi or Suarez in that team that we are certain to loose.

I am usually a realistic poster and I know it won't be easy. But these are the games that make you the BEST from the REST.

14 Jan 2017 20:34:05
ZALF, so cos you don`t see him slating players on the touchline means he isn`t ruthless? Seriously? Are you in the DR at halftime? Are you with the players when they prepare for games? What makes you think he accepts poor perfs? Cos he you didn`t see it on the touchline? So cos we are in a sticky patch, now suddenly means that "Klopp lacks the players to play his style". Is that a joke? Mate, your post is a wind up and your "what is vs what if`s" scenarios as well as your baseless slating of Klopp (who is not perfect by the way) are nothing but dishonest, bearing no relation in reality.

Don`t know if you`re an LFC fan but Klopp ahs taken improved several of our players and the position we are in is down to his and the players hardwork. NOTHING was given to us the season and we earned the right to be where we are. Being negative is your choice but the rest of us don`t have to agree with you nor go down that rabbit hole with you.

14 Jan 2017 21:09:47
Hamilton if you feel this opinion is a rabbit hole, why did you reply to it if you weren't going down the rabbit hole?

You say I am slating klopp but then you criticise him directly after that (who is not perfect by the way)

Get a grip man and respect other people's opinions. Maybe a cold shower would help

14 Jan 2017 21:10:28
Klopp constantly bollocks players. You can hear it in the stadium and on the TV. Just listen for the ''Bobby! '' for Firmino, he absolutely Rollocked Can the other day and shot Clyne a death stare which a polar bear would have backed down from after a terrible cross.
Is Matip not a little gem. His ability to pick a pass to pipco and mane and firmino and bypass the midfield altogether is astounding and gets us at 3v2 on many occsions, as our widemen cut in automatically vs the centrebacks for the overload.
Did he not use the player at his disposal rather than get another left back? Many others (BR, Rafa cough cough) would have asked the board for more € to buy another LB.

14 Jan 2017 22:11:21
I'd call Matip a gem if there is such thing as a gem on a free.
One player of that quality every window would do me.

Klopp has had 2 windows and has improved the squad, our league position proves that.

The only worry is is the squad big enough to finish the season the season without fatigue causing injuries.

15 Jan 2017 00:07:08
My god. That is all.

15 Jan 2017 09:45:33
So you think the important part of the season starts now! I think you'll find the first half is just as important as the second. According to your logic we should play the youth for the first 18 games, allowing the first team squad to rest. Then we'll be fresher and fitter than the rest and win the league every year.

15 Jan 2017 13:40:14
Mag, did I say anything about youth players? Please read what is posted and not create your own story in between the lines

14 Jan 2017 18:29:15

Liverpools rivals win: "it is a must win game! We need to keep up"

Liverpools rivals lose/ draw: "it is a must win game! We need to take advantage"

Just for clarity, does this mean some people won't be happy until we win 38 games a season?

Believable11 Unbelievable5

14 Jan 2017 18:13:40
If it takes to win the title Yes, I would want my team to try winning every single game regardless of what ever is revolving around the Sun.

14 Jan 2017 19:26:01
When have we ever not gone out to win every game? don't confuse intent to win with execution of performance

14 Jan 2017 19:42:19
I am not saying that we shouldn't target to win and even believe we can win every game.

What u am saying is that in reality, no team has ever won every game in a Premier League season. Not even the invincibles of Arsenal were immune to dropping points. So I don't get all this all or nothing drama every weekend about how it is "critical to win".

The next game should always be the most important, but that doesn't mean we should cry and whine over a draw or defeat. They can and will happen multiple times over a season. People on here just set up the dominoes every weekend so they can knock them down in a tantrum if we drop points, or even win unconvincingly!

It is just a pet hate of mine when people are so dramatic and act as though we are out of the title race if we lose tomorrow!

{Ed025's Note - spot on there MK..

14 Jan 2017 20:43:10
MK, you have described the some of LFC fan base perfectly. The reaction after every result, even a win, is appalling at times as if we are the only ones who draw or lose games and the other teams never do.

We go out to win every game under Klopp, period. If not, how is Klopp the best manager vs the top 6 since he arrived? How is LFC top 3 in games won away from home since he arrived? Most goals scored in the PL since he arrived? Cos to him, it doesn`t matter where the game is taking place, he goes for the win and we should be elated to have a man with such a mentality and belief in himself and his players.

But you wouldn`t know it with the nonsense you read on here after a negative result. As for tmrw even if we draw, lose or win, NOTHING will be decided in the PL till May but you will still see this forum awash with doom-mongering posts.

14 Jan 2017 21:13:06
Could not have summed it up better MK

14 Jan 2017 21:18:49
No, but we shouldn't be throwing points away vs Sunderland through stuid penalties nor, throwing away games like the one vs Bournemouth. I get and appreciate you can't win every game, but you shouldn't just hand points out on a plate to teams which is what has happened at times and the reason we were found wanting in 13/ 14,throwing points away vs Villa, WBA, Hull in games that lookedlike we didn't even want to be there. Fergies teams even when losing battled till the final minute, I still think at times we lack that hunger.

This is not saying any one is out the title race. But no team has ever won the title having lost more than 6 matches. You need 80 points minimum to win the league. so you can only really afford to drop 34 points at best, every time you drop 2/ 3 points, is a movement closer to that total. It's something that certainly should just be brushed aside as insignificant especially from winning positions and when the team has looked poor.

14 Jan 2017 22:41:40
Hamilton

If you are not disappointed after a loss then you are going through the wrong hole my friend. If you are not happy with some of the posts skip it and move on yet reply each and every post. It's the diversities in opinions that keeps this page refreshing.

15 Jan 2017 13:13:33
Absolutely right Adam. As Harry said (Zed agrees with Harry, shock! ) everyone hurts after a loss, but we have to put things into perspective, if only for blood pressure reasons, lol!

Top4 is an absolute minimum, but I always want to win the league and will always think we can do it at the start of every season!

14 Jan 2017 16:36:42
Dropped to 4th place courtesy of emphatic wins by Spurs and Arsenal and with City playing Everton we got to win tomorrow.
2 big clubs are definitely dropping out from Top 4 this season. Time to hold our nerves and make a statement.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

14 Jan 2017 16:45:41
Harry, you know Arsenal and Utd play in red too?

In case kit colour is the only reason that you follow Liverpool.

14 Jan 2017 17:22:25
We play 19 games in a Non Red kit Zeddius.

14 Jan 2017 17:28:57
It's more like 10 league games Harry. We play away games in red as well unless the kits clash. Quick look down the league I'd say that is 10 games; 12 maximum. Anyway, I'm just splitting hairs. I have no idea what Zeddicus's point was!

14 Jan 2017 17:36:18
He was trying to wind me up MK. Thought he moved on from my posts due lack of valid footballing arguments and points. Oh what do I know mate 😎.
I can see us winning tomorrow MK ☺.

14 Jan 2017 17:44:13
Harry, I was making the point that you always look on the negative when it comes to Liverpool but the positives when it comes to other clubs.

You are the anti-Ron!

However, I am feeling a little Harry-ish at the moment. Every other result is going against us so far! We really need to win tomorrow!

Ron, give me some positive vibes, mate 😎

14 Jan 2017 17:56:52
Not sure how did you manage to claim this post as a negative. What do you expect from a fan a day before one of the most important game of the season other than ". let's go out and win. " which is clearly stated in the last line of my post.
Am I the only one to place money on liverpool win tomorrow and you still call me a negative. I give up!

{Ed025's Note - i will be putting a good few bob on liverpool tomorrow as well harry, then if they win at least ill be flushed mate.. :)

14 Jan 2017 19:05:52
Mourinho surpasses klopp as a tactician, shouldn't be expecting us to automatically win. Our players will need to pull off a master piece performance to get anything at old fartford based on United's current form.

{Ed025's Note - its a 50/50 game for me ZA..

14 Jan 2017 19:16:41
They have zlatan . He can win games on his own . He's neither man nor beast .

14 Jan 2017 19:15:38
Il be betting on Utd . Then if we lose il be flushed,

14 Jan 2017 20:48:12
ZALFC, it`s a rivalry and form is thrown out the window, as they say and it is true. Also if Mou surpasses Klopp as a tactician, how come he along with Pep have beaten Mou the most in their head to heads than any other manager? Care to answer that, sir?

14 Jan 2017 22:53:05
Hamilton

How come Jose have more Domestic league titles than any other managers in modern era? Have Klopp won a CL yet? Stop bringing stats which will bite your hands.

14 Jan 2017 14:26:29
Liverpool look unlikely to sign anyone this January but they will look to sign Sead Kolasinic on a pre contract agreement. Christian Pulisic was Liverpools top January target but Dortmund have told them there is no chance they will sell this month, Klopp has his heart set on the Dortmund youngster and will go after him this summer. Any updates on Sakho ed? I know we want at least £20m for him and Sevilla are not willing to pay anymore than £15m, heard Southampton are interested with Fonte looking to leave but not sure if there's any truth in it

Ed01 has said that they are looking to give the ex-Barca youngster Juanma chances at LB as the coaches at the U23 setup, think he`s the real deal.

14 Jan 2017 04:08:39
Hey ed001, the young American lad in the academy, Brooks Lennon. haven't heard much about him. Seems he's a decent talent but has a pretty big pecking order in front of him. Thoughts on him?

Also, American media is reporting that he will be rejoining the MLS for real salt lake. Any truth? Always wanted an American to play for Liverpool. Was gutted when we didn't get Dempsey.

Thanks in advance

{Ed001's Note - he is very highly regarded. It was meant to be a loan he was going on.}

14 Jan 2017 12:55:06
Zac Whitbread and Brad Friedel were 2 Americans that played for us.

14 Jan 2017 13:12:25
Thanks ed. I presume it's on then? . the loan of course. Think it would be a good move myself. The MLS is a good league to get minutes.

{Ed002's Note - Yes it will be a loan.}

Well between the papers and various sports media outlets every pundit is convinced we are going to lose easily tomorrow. I don't mind being the underdogs that is fine. I certainly do not think we will be as bad as Wednesday night. We certainly have not become a bad team over night. I hope we shove it back down these " PUNDITS " necks.

I have been watching all the previews and reading all the articles about the match and united are heavy favourites. it's almost surprising how we are being brushed aside as having next to no chance, I knew they where favourites due to momentum but united are being touted as 'the last wonder of the world'. Im not overly confident about the game but if I was a player and not a fan I'd see that as big motivation. I'd almost be so p***** off at being so undervalued compared to united that I wouldn't have nerves going into the game, I'd just want to get out there and put Herrera on his ass and just bully him and pogba. The problem is, we have a psychological issue with united similar to the one Everton have with us. Even though we should beat them we rarely do, especially at old Trafford. This is something that I've never quite understood, and has made me question the bottle that the players have sometimes. We talk about Klopp firing a rocket up their asses when it's needed but why does it have to be that way for a game against united, I hope we start sharp straight away, clinical passing and clinical shooting is the only way I see us beating united because possession will be up for grabs and united will constantly be hitting on the counter. Our pressure and intensity needs to be on point and if it's not I feel like united will get the early lead and see us out. I feel like the first half will determine the winner and we have been slow starters so it better not be the case this time.

I refrained from commenting about the game and just kept myself to myself with all things concerned so I'll continue to do so, but this is make or break. Are we title challengers or are be battling for top 4.

14 Jan 2017 12:19:45
I'm not surprised, we were defensive shambles agents Southampton.

14 Jan 2017 12:28:29
You "should beat us". Really? Whys that

14 Jan 2017 13:00:13
What do you want a Liverpool supporter to say stand utd, " we are going to beaten " get a grip. It's called supporting your team.

14 Jan 2017 13:04:38
United are at home, unbeaten in 11 and won their last 9, spent a fortune in the Summer while Liverpool are having a bit of a sticky patch. Why should United not win?

14 Jan 2017 13:12:27
Amazing how in October United were bemoaning the press were treating us as the 8th wonder if the world and now going into tomorrow we are outsiders.
Granted, we haven't looked as good of late but united, like Chelsea, have had a run where they have had some luck and either come up against weaker teams. Think united have only had Spurs as a team of note in their PL run of wins and, on the day, Spurs were massively disappointing.
I am torn over who I want starting tomorrow - I kind of want Origi as, with Mane out, he is the only other player with genuine pace meaning United can't just go out and play a high line. On the flip side, I want Firmino down the middle. Anyone else for Origi on the right side of the 3 up top?

14 Jan 2017 13:14:50
My only prediction for tomorrow is for Herrera to fall over in the box tomorrow, maybe more than once. Oh and to only get yellow carded with five mins to go despite having persistently fouled his way through the game. Do get the impression I dislike him, as a player? 😉

{Ed004's Note - Bit of a hypocritical comment since you've had Lucas doing it for years...}

14 Jan 2017 13:19:43
There is a good chance Klopp will field 4-3-3 to counter United's 3 men midfield. Coutinho - Firmino - Lallana up top.

14 Jan 2017 19:04:31
Ed004, not really mate - Lucas last got into the opponents box in 2011.

{Ed004's Note - More making reference to the dozens of fouls he can make each game}

14 Jan 2017 21:02:04
I'm confused as to why a shift in formation would be required just because Mane is at AFCON. Assuming Hendo is back, the midfield 3 of him, Adam and Gini has worked well all season. Lallana hasn't looked nearly as good playing in a front 3, and Bobby is much less effective on the wing, so why put him there so Origi or Sturridge can play in the middle? I'd sooner disrupt the 433 as little as possible and replace mane with Ojo or Origi. Sturridge should be kept on the bench and used for impact because his pressing just isn't up to scratch. Losing one player won't damage our chances too much, but p*ssing about with the formation may do.

Ander Hererra 3 yellow cards, Jordan Henderson 6 yellow cards. Yep, Hererra will foul his way through the game. Laughable

14 Jan 2017 23:53:34
Not sure how reliable they are but 'whoscored' have Henderson averaging 1.2 fouls per match this season, yet Herrera is averaging 1.5. With Henderson having double the yellow cards was my original, albeit flippant, comment that wide of the mark?

15 Jan 2017 14:50:19
Stand, we should beat you because we are better than you.

14 Jan 2017 09:47:42
Tend to err on the side of caution, but feel really confident of a solid win, particularly if hendo and couts play. I'm going for a 3-1 win.

{Ed025's Note - in my view peely they are just greedy sods, these guys are all multi millionaires anyway!, how much do they really need?...they cant spend what they have in a dozen lifetimes and to be honest in these days of austerity and cut backs it makes me sick, these are not footballers they are mercenaries mate..

In my humble opinion if someone's offering him 2-3 times his current wage it is a huge offer and he'd be mad not to consider it.
These are human beings, not robots. And yes they can be swayed. Many of them do a lot for their old neighbourhoods and families, the more they earn the more they give to charities. They haven't created the situation they are victims of it.
Coming from a poor background myself, if by magic tomorrow I could earn enough to make sure my brothers and sisters children nephews nieces would never have to go through the stresses of being poor (their are many) . Sometimes not having enough for bread and milk. then I'm sorry but call me what u want, I wouldn't think twice.

If an employer deems them worth it then why not. what I do disagree with is the manner in which certain players try to leave.

14 Jan 2017 09:18:26
Very true ed25, couldn't agree more with that mate.

{Ed025's Note - its a good job you and me are rich then harry.. :)

14 Jan 2017 13:15:25
I wouldn't fault a single one of them for leaving. We would probably all do the same. We only live once, and that is a LOT of money to provide for your family. I agree it's ridiculous, that anyone could be paid that much to play any sport, but it's the world we live in.

14 Jan 2017 14:35:04
Magic and TJ are spot on. "Don`t hate the player, hate the game" as they say in the States. If the money is there, get it while you can cos if you don`t another player will. It`s easy to judge from the outside looking in BUT it`s not that simple, as Magic has eloquently stated.

Many of these players especially from developing or third world countries, came from very difficult backgrounds (poverty, civil and military strife or destitution) so who can blame them? They have a lot of mouths to feed and many individuals depend on their income. Hey, get it while you can and forget the rest, me thinks.

14 Jan 2017 20:13:36
Sorry guys, China is just the next level in this crazy football world.

To me, the game sold its soul to the devil as soon as Rupert Murdoch got his horrible claws into the game, Sky TV.

Not forgetting the birth of the Premier League. All about money money money. It's no suprise football is where it's at now.

It won't be long before we have to set timers on our watches +8hrs in order to watch our teams.

14 Jan 2017 01:43:37
Hello fellow reds, first time poster, I've been an avid reader for the last couple of years and I thought I'd get involved in the debate. Just watched the Daniel Sturridge interview with Geoff shreeves, I feel like he's the epitome of what a modern day footballer should be.

granted the boy is very rich as a result of the madness and popularity of new age football. I think it can get lost in translation, people may watch a player and think "he should be working harder" or "he should do more for the team". the kid wants to the best he can for Liverpool that's clear.

I think Klopp appreciates that but understands his limitations. I've read the negativity towards him and think it's completely unjustified, I feel like a few fans on this site don't comprehend that these players are human and it just so happens they do the job we would all kill to do!
