Eds do ye see us signing Marco Reus?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nope.}

Limerick red I retain hope the clubs just keeping the deal under tabs until it is certain we've got top 4, along with the proposed transfers of Vidal, Moreno and Lallana.
But don't go shout about it, or by Tomorrow Spurs will have declared interest!

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually Tim Sherwood apparently intends to go British this summer with such exciting names as James Milner and Stewart Downing on his list.

Just a thought I've been having recently.
With our worldwide support numbering at least in the tens of millions, if we all donated £2 towards a fans transfer kitty to give to the club to help purchase better players for our team.
Now not everyone will donate of course but others will give a lot more than £2
I know I wouldn't mind doing this twice a year if it went on strengthening the team.
We all pay to support our club in other ways such as media, fashion or going to the match, often lining the pockets of others not even involved with football.
Our global support could be enough to help purchase a top quality player every season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought this at one point mate, but I'm fairly sure it would never happen! And it would be wrong in my opinion for millions to give £2 to a cause that has no need whatsoever for the money other than for us, as fans, personal enjoyment in signing maybe one more player, when there's thousands of charities that could do more with the money! I mean I love Liverpool football club as much as anyone but it would be a worrying state of culture to see people giving £2 towards something like this instead of a charity! Just my thoughts anyway haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha I think that would be a great idea, obviously various rules are preventing such things but it would be pretty cool, I think people have the right to spend their money on whatever they want though, I.e we shouldn't go for a meal tonight because it will cost us 40 quid that are neighbours could use. If any of the edds wouldn't mind pointing out what rules prevent this kind of thing?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - If you want to go for a meal tonight you go there are no rules to stopyou I'm sure your neighboours wont mind in the slightest.}

Or instead of donating money to this cause you can just support the club via. The normal channels e.g. Buy Merchandise.

Also the club isn't a registered charity so you can't donate per se, you could form a consortium with the rest of the people, all chipping in £2, and invest in Liverpool.

It would be pretty cool if we could get a fan group together and invest in Liverpool, that way we would get a vote at shareholder meetings; thus giving us more control as to the way the club operates. Sadly I don't think this will ever happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

How about you all have a whip round and buy me a new car. :) I will use it on match days to drive up to 3 fans to the game.

Just been watching scully on YouTube :-) if you're old enough you'll remember it. Anyone remember?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I loved that as a kid!}

Check out a song in the early 60's, released when the Merseybeat was trendy, called "You know what I mean" by The Vernon Girls.
It'll crack you up ed001. I heard it on Radio 2 Golden Hour or something when I was driving one day.

Hi eds.
just wondering if anyone has shown interest in Noone of cardiff?
cheers lads

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes, there was a lot of interest in him from the Championship, prior to the season kicking off. It looked early on like he would not get a game this season, there was an expectation of him being moved on.}

I was at the Cardiff game at home and thought he looked quite bright in the first half

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I believe we are interested in no one from Cardiff

Hi Eds,

Do you know anything about Liverpool's Bosina youngetsr Armin Hodžić on loan at Željezničar. He has scored 10 goals in 15 games so far this season. Are we keeping close tabs on him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - all loan players are monitored, the club receives a regular report from the club they are loaned to. We also send scouts to watch them fairly often.}

14 Mar 2014 19:05:40
Hopefully at some point in the closing of the season we will see McLaughlin make his senior debut and some more minutes for Smith and Teixeira.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Did mclaughlins loan finish? Did Barnsley not want him back?

Good post mate nice to see a Manchester United fan on the site.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha never going to happen mate ;) the tables have turned! How's your family? Hope everything is still going well!

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris,,
Lots of people appear to be making us favorites to win tommorow and that adds more pressure on our boys to secure the victory, ( in pursuit of the title ) us fans have been craving for since Kylie started dating Jason. However, with the way your season has gone under your new "seriously under pressure manager", the significance of the result for your club has more bearing on the route your owners may take than ever before.
i'm hoping we sneak a lucky win which will allow Moysie more time in the hotseat . a convincingly win for us and we may well be doing the rest of the prem a disservice in bringing forward his p45.
One thing is for certain,, the atmosphere will be as hot as an SAF reflection after a glenfiddich session .
Good luck trying to stop the most prolific strikeforce in the premier league.

P.s Hope all is going well with your little boy.

Well done Daniel Sturridge, Barclays Premier League Player of the Month, February 2014.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Twice so far this season for Danny. I hope he gets a hat-trick of them come May.

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard Sturridge was in the running for ''young player of the year'' which at age 24, he would still qualify for, I found that quite surprising myself but then it might have been a wind up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Young player of the year goes to 23 year olds and younger. Sturridge was 23 at the start of the season so he is eligible.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fully deserved imo, it was between him and Hazard and Liverpools results may have just swung it for him.

On another note, what are all u Liverpool fans opinions on BR and his transfer policy? Its strange to me, his 'big' buys dnt seem to work out (aspas, borini) yet his lower range buy (coutinho) seem to, do any of u see this as a long term problem? Would u trust him with say the funds to go out and buy a £30m player?
Just wondering if its luck with these lower range buys or is he actually really clever at spotting the 'right' player. For me its luck. Opinions?

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool can't afford £30 million footballers, unless Suarez goes. The other players, value wise isn't much in it. So, as you say its a bit of luck I guess but when dabbling in the cheaper end of themarket you only need to get one out of 3 right and you won't lose too much on the other 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Mar 2014 20:43:30
i personally believe every manager has hits and misses in the transfer market but if you are in aplace where there seems to be a bottomless pit of money utd, city, chelski, psg, monaco, real madrid.it dosent seem to get the same focus, as we have to be right most of the time as a bad buy sticks out in r wafer thin squad imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

CTR,

It is a bit unfair to deem Aspas and Borini as flops especially when you have 2 world class strikers in Suarez and Sturridge to compete with. Even your very own Rooney and RVP wouldn't get in our starting line up ahead of them (on current form anyway).

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Mar 2014 08:36:05
Aspas was around £7 million and Borini around £10. I wouldn't really say they were big buys.
I suppose the only big buy would be Kirikou, at around £18 million, then possibly Sturridge at around 12, I think these are BRs 2 most expensive signings but I could be wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

Allen = 15million Dave, 2nd biggest outlay. Whether he can be an asset to the team who knows? But he has looked better, we'll need him in the squad if we make CL next season.

14 Mar 2014 11:54:55
Just want to say well done to Sturridge for winning player of the month for feb after scoring 5 goals and getting 2 assists.

Have you heard any news on borini, assaidi and suso as to whether they will remain at Liverpool next season. I know suso has stated he wants to stay at Liverpool

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new.}

Suso gave a short interview on the radio yesterday, good to hear his thoughts on the team and what his plans for the future are.

He's working hard, talking with Rodgers over the phone, wishing the lads at Liverpool all the best for their match against United on Sunday, saying he believes Liverpool have the ''quality'' with Sturridge and Suarez to win the League ''which they will do sooner or later'' when asked about Liverpool's continental style of keep ball''. The lad is golden to us Liverpool fans, he also explained why he went to Almeria and that he wanted to play every game, in a small team. Says a lot about his character in my opinion. It was a good interview with a great lad.

hi edd02 this is a question that is not directly football related.
with the trouble in the Ukraine and the strong hinting of sanctions against Russia which has been brought up on question time, mps suggested russian oligarchs who have bank accounts in the west which would be frozen, would that impact Chelsea and any other Russian who has a football in the west?cheers franky.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No Franky, that is not going to happen.}

Cheers edd.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed in no way am I trying to wind you up or be disrespectful but there is serious talk of pulling passports seizing property business etc of the ogliarchs that support Putin. There is actually a push here in the US to go down this route. The belief is they prop up Putin, if they find themselves in that situation they would turn against him, so the theory goes. I'm not saying it's going to happen but it could. That being said would Ambrovivch(?) be on that list, who knows. But he is friendly with Putin.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Jolly good.}

Rumour has it that we are interested in bringing both Lallana and Shaw as they are seen to have the quality to come in and hit the ground running, and Brendan is keen to bring in more British talent to the squad. We will face stiff competition from Chavski, Citeh and Arsenal, and not-so-stiff competition from Man Utd.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Quite a naive view you got there. Players will still want to go to UTD, they will also pay way over the value for players so it will be a more attractive prospect to go them than our club who won't pay any more than a player is worth.

I wouldn't pin your hopes on those 2 coming in. We are more likely to spend on a wider range of relatively unknown players of which 50% won't make it.

Sturridge, Sakho, Coutinho, Allen, Toure

Aspas, Borini, Assaidi, Cissokho, Moses

We don't have a glorious financial empire like UTD and Arsenal or sugar daddy owners like Chelsea and City. We have to rely on smart investments and hard work.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be great to bring in more British talent. However, the transfer premium would be prohibitive for both I would imagine

Hello everyone, I saw many posts about Lazar markovic, but I think he is Chelsea player already, but I think we should look at Fejsa, great DM, also Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderleht, young striker with great potential.Also we may look at Partizan Belgrade young talents, as they have great football school and every year some of them go for litlle money .for example Markovic is paid only 6 milion, Mitrovic 5 milion, Jovetic 8 milion .

Lets hope that we qualify for a European competition and win it next year (Or at least go far). Its been rather embarassing watching the other UK based clubs.
Wigan, Swansea, Stoke, Newcastle, Tottenham, United, Arsenal and Man City have all failed to do anything noteworthy in years. Even Liverpool in the couple of Europa league runs were quite shambolic, although at least we only went out on the ridiculous away goals rule!

Chelsea are the only English team who haven't let the country down on the big stage recently. Hopefully we qualify and change that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bit harsh on little wigan that ain't it? Not even a prem club but beat the richest club in the world 2 seasons in a row. What more is expected of them?

Agree0 Disagree0

There's only one English team I want to succeed in Europe and that's Liverpool. Otherwise I'd like to see a team from Luxembourg win it or maybe one that plays in green or one with an exotic name like Munchengladbach.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Mar 2014 18:51:09
Good point Ashy. I should add that Wigan produced a miracle to even qualify for the competition and were not expected to do well. However everyone who qualifies for a European Competition is essentially an Ambassador for English Football and apart from Chelsea, every club has dropped out hopelessly early for the last 3-5 years. Even United under Fergie went a bit dodgy after winning the Champions League for the last time.

I get what you mean regarding who you want to win, but I do miss the days where 2 or 3 of the Semi finalists were based in the Premier League. It is going to start hurting English clubs if it doesn't improve. As Ed02 has frequently said we are falling down the rankings as a league. Maybe its not an urgent danger, but it'll hit us like a tonne of bricks one day.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

I know the Ed has said that, but what other leagues will overtake the Premiership for it to drop out of the top 3. Fair enough (already counting Spain ahead) maybe Germany could have a chance, but other than that only Italy really comes to mind.

Eds and reds,

Correct me if I am wrong, but it appears that Liverpool will be looking to buy a left back, a left winger and a midfielder.
This left back is replacing Aly Cissokho and the left winger is replacing Victor Moses.
So only the midfielder is making the squad bigger, is this right?
Do you have a list of potential targets for these positions?

Also, it has been mentioned that if players leave we will find replacements.
Do you know who is currently being considered to leave and who we could replace them with?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Read the posts please.}

You are wrong. replacing a non starter/dead wood is as good as a new player. Moses and Cissoko aren't really starters anyway so if they left the team and no one was brought in we would more or less be in the same situation. Bringing in viable replacements is adding depth but only if they're better.

With interest in players like Willian and Diego Costa last summer and Konoplyanka in January, could that have been attempts by Liverpool to hike up potential transfer fees should a premier league rival try to buy them? I understand there was what seemed to be genuine interest from Liverpool, especially with bid(s) being rejected, but were there ulterior motives?

I hope we are able to snatch up Maxime Lopez as he looks to be a big player for the future. Hopefully the reported interest does not spark increased interest from other clubs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hey Eds,
Do you see any of Konoplyanka, Markovic and Gaitan moving to LFC in the summer? Also which would you prefer out of the three and why? Cheers would be really grateful for a reply.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can't say hat will happen but the interest in Konoplyanka is coming from elsewhere right now; Markovic seems very unlikely; Gaitan is financially well beyond Liverpool's means right now.}

£16m Gaitan is out of Liverpool's financial means?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed02,

Do you think that the criticism of Mignolet is too harsh? I think he's performed well this year, and he's still young for a GK.

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I think that the Liverpool supporters are too critical of many of the players including Mignolet.}

Let's get behind Simon he's a very good keeper right now not top class but hopefully (I think he will) he will be excellent for us he will make more mistakes but that's the hard thing being a goalie mistakes usually mean goals let in so let's get behind him and all the players as ed2 as previously said for some reason Liverpool fans are pretty quick to slag our own players off.

Agree0 Disagree0

For his first season he's done well. Yes he's made a couple of clangers, but at other times he's not been helped by his defenders. However, he's also pulled off some key saves that have won games.
As much as I liked Pepe, it was a shame to see him on the box the other day stating the boss doesn't want him in his plans. It was Reina that more or less came out stating he's off to Barca last summer, what did he expect. Good ruthless management from BR, that episode made BR go up massively in my book
