if sterling was to leave eds wht sort of money do u think we would ask for?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't want to discuss money. It just confuses people.}

Ed

If sterling was to leave, would that make benzema or lacazette a realistic option?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I have dealt with them - please try the search engine.}

15 Mar 2015 01:11:38
Forget money we need quality a signing to follow straight in. I won't lose sleep over Sterling is because Ibe is ready to take over right now (when he's fit). Plus Origi, Ojo, Canos & Wilson.

Bayern - Robben & Dante
Madrid - Isco & £10m
PSG - Lucas + £10m or Cavani
Juve - Morata + £20m
Barcelona - Pedro, Montoya & £10m
City - I'd rather take money from City £45m

I'd personally want either of the PSG deals, the Madrid deal or the Juve deal(that are all in my mind).

Vietto and Cech are the two realistic signings i hope the club push for if Sterling leaves. Both will be expensive but hopefully the Sterling sale would cover the costs apart from wages of course. Benzema is wanted by Man Utd and PSG so no point in wasting time chasing him. Ed002 has repeated many times Lacazette will either stay at Lyon or go elsewhere so u can cross him off the list as well.

I would hope that if the club intends to sell that they get the players in first then sell Sterling, rather than be left in the situation we had with Suarez where we sold him and didn't have a replacement lined up.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I would not be so sure - there is a financial complication to overcome first. I suspect the club will look to strike deals for at least some of the loan players that the club can complete by the end of June - the likes of Aspas, Alberto and possibly Ilori. That money could then be used to ease a separate issue. I also think it likely that Sterling will agree a new deal with Liverpool.}

15 Mar 2015 10:44:27
Don't know about any of you, (Eds included) but for me Cavani is one of the most overrated players in the world.
As I don't watch the French league regularly, (although right now I am sitting in a bedroom in the centre of Tours!) I only ever see him play big matches, i.e. vs. Chelsea last week, and although his work-rate is very high which would suit our system, I don't see what other credentials he has to make him worthy of £50million; he misses lots of good chances, is not particularly fast or skilful. The only good game I've seen him have was against England last summer, but even then he wasn't in the same league as Luis that day.

Agree9 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - No need to worry Toddy, he won't be moving to Liverpool.}

Cheers Ed. Much appreciated.

Hi eds just wondering if you knew when Lucas and Ibe will be fit

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - One week and two weeks according to the club}

15 Mar 2015 17:49:10
Will be great to have them both available.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Mar 2015 21:47:57
will be great to have the options esp in central midfield again. Always a massive game against the mancs but next week is huge for me, a win would be monstrous for us, but first off we need a win at Swansea and haven't got a great record down there. Boticelli shouldn't be near the 1st team rest of season, we lose all pace and momentum when he is out on the pitch. cut your losses on him and bomb him out.

Anyone else think sturridge has been greedy and keeps trying the spectacular goals rather than playing team mates in? Or is it because he's up top on his own? I don't want to slate him as he's a great player but I feel he needs to step up his game now he's fit again

Believable17 Unbelievable7

14 Mar 2015 10:50:04
I don't think he trusts those around him just yet, he had an almost telepathic understanding with Suarez.
He's not had the chance to develop his understanding of his new teammates games yet.

14 Mar 2015 11:43:44
If we get him scoring again we will fly into the top four

14 Mar 2015 11:43:51
Strikers are always greedy. In his early days, Ian Rush was ordered to be more greedy by Bob Paisley. Strikers score lots of goals by having lots and lots and lots of attempts.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Mar 2015 12:13:52
Sturridge is greedy in and around the box but he's entitled to be. He's the striker. It's not as if he gets the ball and launches it into the stands from 35 yards like one of our strikers. He just needs a strike partner who he can link up with as he did with Suarez last season.

Sturridge & Sterling

Agree2 Disagree1

14 Mar 2015 14:13:23
We're setup much more defensively lately then in the past with 3 CB's, both Henderson plus one laying deep and two occasional wide players attacking which leaves only three real attacking threats.

It's enabled us to keep the goals against column looking better at the cost of having little attacking threat and therefore less goals. Hopefully Lucas will be back soon as Henderson seems to feel more comfortable going forward more often with him on the pitch which helps a bit and seems to balance the team a bit better.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Mar 2015 15:38:46
I agree with him being greedy honestly, but with him being the best finisher on the team, I'd rather he the shots than others.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Mar 2015 16:43:26
No such thing as telepathic understanding. Suarez waas just a cut above everyone else. Sturridge is a good prem striker, but he is not, and never will be world class. i'm not knocking him, very few players become world class. The term is thrown around far to frequently these days

IMO, there is a diff between being greedy and being smart. Studge looks to be greedy but is not very smart at it. As a striker, yes you have to be greedy BUT to a certain degree because that just turns fans and teammates off. Many great strikers are greedy BUT knew when to be team players. The great Ronaldo de Lima is a prime example. He had a very good assist rate for his career and his partnership with Romario was stuff of legends. Studge trying to score from an impossible angle while other players are wide open for the cut back or when a pass is on to a teammate during a counter attack and you start looking for players to take on is what I mean by not being smart a t being greedy.a Studge does this a times and I thought he grew out of it BUT it seems to have returned. That is the part of his game that he needs to learn.

15 Mar 2015 01:15:24
Sturridge don't trust those around him? who's been the leagues best performers of this calendar year. That's no excuse, he needs to fit into the way the team is and has been playing not the other way around.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Paisley would fit the system and tactics around the players he had available to him, as much as the players into the system he was playing. Both have to adjust alightly.}

15 Mar 2015 19:52:25
Exactly! Studge doesn`t pick the team nor the tactics hence, has to play within the system because his teammates need him as much as he needs them to provide chances for him. No striker ever flourished w/o the help of his teammates so Studge should be no different.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Mar 2015 08:07:56
Strikers think of goal first if they want to be top scorers. If you don't automatically look, see if you can go for goal and if you can take the shot then you'll never score 20+ a season, because you're opportunities will dissapear in front of you whilst you consider your other options.

By the same token that Sturridge has made the wrong decisions a few times since coming back, I haven't noticed other players screaming for the ball in space - they are just sort of waiting. If you want the ball from a striker, you have to make the effort and let them know you are available because they aren't looking for you. If you don't, don't moan that they aren't waiting for you

I thought Sturridge and Coutinho had a great partnership last season. They seemed to feed off of each other pretty well and it looked like it was going to be Gerrard/Torres combo. Hopefully these two click again.

If he cannot contribute then he should be a sub BUT we'll see what happens. We have to win this game because based on today's results, we have a very good chance at second if we win. This is not a time for sentiment. This is the time for hard decisions to be made and if SG cannot play at the same level as those around him then he should be on the bench, IMO.

14 Mar 2015 21:32:05
Thank god some agrees phooey.

I don't want him starting as we have been much improved without him. I would use him as an impact sub as redohio says.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Mar 2015 00:29:31
Gerrard should not be starting unless it is for Coutinho. The CAM position is the only midfield position that doesn't have to worry too much about defending and tracking back. There's no way is he capable of filling Henderson's boots, as Henderson's role demands a lot physically getting up and down the pitch. He also doesn't have it in him to be running around defending either, therefore, Allen should start alongside Henderson since Lucas is still out. Of course I hope Coutinho starts anyway.

Hey ed's hope u all doing great.
Avid Reader but posting for the first time.
Question for ed01 as u hold deep knowledge and passion about LFC
We are recently playing good football and are in good form specially players like coutinhio, Hendo, sterling and all other players standing up, my question is specifically about coutinhio and sterling, though they are playing well and scoring goals but what I have observed about them they both have stopped playing those killer balls in the box for other players or the through balls for our strikers or any player who make runs, specially with sturridge back. Now instead they take the ball and start making runs from deep or go for the shoot from distance, we are scoring from distance, but we can't in every game, which some times I feel break our play down, last year we were so threatening because of those killer through balls, this season I haven't seen any specially from coutinhio and that too in the middle of the park, now our most of the plays goes down the wings and then we try to cut in, which will become predictable, but our middle of the park play was deadly last year, and m not seeing that currently, may be m wrong but just sharing what I felt and would like your useful opinion.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I agree, but that is as much because of the lack of options in the box to play the ball to as anything. Last season we had two players in there most of the time, this season we are lucky if anyone is actually in there.}

14 Mar 2015 15:29:45

{Ed001's Note - he should do as we lack strikers and he is certainly good enough to be another option.}

True Ed. I saw a few of his goals on YouTube and I know the levels are much higher in the PL but Sinclair is a beast made of strength, pace and can shoot with both feet. I think he could help if not this season but certainly the next.

Eds and Reds,

Had a look through the page and couldn't see this question asked. What positions are Liverpool looking to strengthen in the summer?

{Ed001's Note - it was clearly answered on the rumours page a couple of days ago.}
