Reina wanting to leave in January could be true because they are going to have a new baby due March 2013. Settle back in Spain for the new arrival!

Suarez at his age and showing the form he is showing is worth 65 million if a team like city want him...

More like 80 million, i mean if Man Utd got that for ronaldo why can't we for suarez BTW ronaldo's the biggest diver in the game, i'm saying that before people start moaning that suarez dives alot.

Hi Eds, Just wondered what your thoughts are on that despite the creative talents of Gerrard, Sahin, Sterling, Suso etc. we just dont seem to be creating any clear cut chances and then the accuracy of our finishing is woeful, do you think pushing Gerrard further forward would give us more success in the latter 3rd as he seems to be restricted of late in his performances {Ed001's Note - I do think Gerrard was at his best for us when he played on the right, but he refused to play there any longer. Why would he now be willing to put himself out wide?}

Makes me laugh a little bit when I see posters saying he is a life long servant to the club ed001.
He does hat he wants and what's best for himself and not the club.
LFC is a servant of steven gerrard and that needs to change.
I agree he would be better on the right so that's where Rodgers should stick him without being undermined.
It's one of my few criticisms of Rodgers so far that he hasn't got the balls to drop gerrard.
Steven could be a very valuable player to us still if he would allow a manager to manage him but instead he just turns up when he wants and never pulls his weight and expects to be picked every time.
That's hardly doing the club any favours.

MIKEY

Mikey i will only believe what you say if you are mike marsh.

Mikey how would you know?

Hounsred

The reason I know he hasn't got the balls to drop him is because he hasn't dropped him despite his garbage form this year.
If he was getting properly managed and used only when he's at his best he would be a lot more useful to us.

MIKEY

I've had the same argument with my son. I said I'd drop Gerrard, he said you'd get hung for doing it. Does any player deserve to be picked on reputation alone?

Hang on a minute....
So the story is Citeh want Suarez and will offer Dzeko plus cash?
For me it depends on the cash. Dzeko plus 50 million and it's a deal.
With that money we could rebuild the team.
Options would be Zaha, Matt Phillips, Alexis Sanchez, Christian Erikson.
And if Pepe wants to go then get a good price for him and bring in the likes of Butland.
I like Luis, he's a class player and a winner, but he also has a lot of baggage and that means he has his price. These players won't hang around with no CL for long anyway so get some young hungry talent in and give them chance to shine.

Liverpool would be in serious danger without Suarez. We are not in a position to attract world class replacements.

Red Owl

Not for sale

Why would dzeko want to come to us , im sure he would go to a club in the champs league , this story is rubbish and just paper talk , believe it or not , the big news could be we have new investors with a lot of money

mickey b
JFT96

If the price is right, FSG will sell. However where the money goes will be another thing.
I think FSG will sell LFC sooner than later, as soon as planning permission for redevelopment goes through.
They just want to add more value.

Have you noticed Everton players sporting Moustache. What's going on? Over there on the other side of stanley park...
"Seems like there's a 70s porn star look going on." :):)
kidmillions {Ed001's Note - it's movember.}

It's called 'movember'. It's some silly thing rich people do for charity. RED LENIN

In Fairness RED LINEN it's not just rich people that do Movember, and I don't really think it's fair to call anything that's done for
charity sill, especially when it raises money for men's health, issues that will most likely effect more than a few of us readers of this website!

Gman82

It is a fund raiser so as to why you would call it a silly rich people thing is beyond me. It is a bit of fun to raise awareness and funding for men's health (or at least in Australia it is). Maybe something to support rather than critisize.

Andy K

It's origins are the City traders & bankers - that's why it's silly rich people. It's also why the Sky business reporters are doing it.

I've got just over 20 people doing it at work, and none of us are "rich", (can't comment on the silly). If we're in the business of ignoring "some silly thing rich people do", should any of us be following association football?

Lucas Lovechild

RED LENIN trolls again.

Movember gets people discussing and increasing public consciousness of prostate cancer which has the added effect that more men allow their doctor to perform an often life-saving physical inspection which many men still largely consider unappealing enough to shy away from alltogether.

Did Ed001 say he had a liver infection?

Get well soon mate! {Ed001's Note - thank you mate, second one this year, though at least this one isn't accompanied by glandular fever! Just my luck to get a drinker's infection when I am teetotal.}

Its not really a drinkers infection, its a I sit on my computer and eat and drink crap all day infection ;) get well soon

I earlier argued with the 'I watch sky and repeat what they say and therefore I understand football' brigade, that Ibra is a genius - and can you believe it - got disagrees.

I now demand that you your 'I watch sky and repeat what they say and therefore I understand football' brigade- and your arrogant overrated English footballers - collectively bow before Zlatan.

BOW BEFORE ZLATAN.

BOW!!!!!!!!

BJH YNWA

Bet Ibra (Who I do really rate, fabulous skill) would love to play against overated and typically brainless English centre backs everyweek? You could probably add overhyped "Best in the World" English goalkeepers to that.

14 Nov 2012 22:57:15
I have to say all the Suarez to City posts need to get real , it would be football suicide for the club to get rid of Suarez without an decent squad .

Suarez himself has stated that he dreams to play for Barca or Real Madrid at some point in career. He will go at some point but I cant see it anytime soon due to his extension making him ridiculously expensive.

That being said 40 mil ......50 mil as Ted Diabiasi used to say" everyone has their price."

I hope he stays otherwise we may have to recall
Titi Camara (the legend himself)

I hope we get an experienced finisher if I was a betting man I would guess Huntelaar due to him being an agent for hire and of all the teams after him we are the only one that can guarantee him a starting place .I do think the Champions league will decide where he goes to , and if the draw is kind he may not go anywhere .

kobi

Suarez wont be going to City. He plays for Liverpool and enjoys his football. He doesn't take kindly to not being selected, getting dragged off or God forbid warming the bench. City already have problems with the excellent Dzeko unhappy at warming the bench and no takers for the grossly overpaid Tevez. Aguero is much too good a player to be at such a Club and will not see out his contract there. City are a Club living on the edge of imploding.
kidmillions

It was football suicide to only have one proper striker to start the first half of the season but fsg let it happen.
with the chang situation , comolli , kk, carroll etc does any one expect fsg to be predictable in what they do cos i am confused by them . red mick tag

14 Nov 2012 22:53:48
The Welsh Daily Post, published in Liverpool and printed in Manchester are saying that City are going to put in a 40 million bid for Suarez! Front page in tweeted by someone on Twitter! Big wow! Who haven't City been linked with! Liverpool should tell them to double the figure and add another 50 million and then we will still reject that offer!

40 million plus Dzeko is a deal

Mancini benching Suarez? He thought Tevez was bad? Nah! wont work Suarez has to play every game.

Hey, if the Welsh Daily Post say it's true it must be, right?

14 Nov 2012 22:45:37
As good as Suarez is why would man city want him? They have 4 very good strikers as it is. It would be pointless as we wouldnt sell.

MIKEY

Dzeko wants first team football, Ballotelli is always acting up and wants to go back to Italy.
City will almost certainly get either Suarez or Falcao in my opinion

So why buy Suarez who would end up kicking off at being benched all the time as well?

MIKEY

14 Nov 2012 22:39:08
Alternatives with a better rate of scoring and for a fraction of the price to the following:-

theo walcott:- waris majeed, value £1.3m
games 31, goals 25, assists 9, n 21 years of age plays for fc hacken in sweden.

sturridge:-philipp hosiner, value £1mill
games 22 games, goals 20, assists 4, 23 years of age plays for fk austria vienna in austria

SORRY but after watchin that england match i got bored apologises again! lol

Could u have picked players from any worse leagues?

Cudge

Walcott and sturridge would have a lot more goals playing in those leagues as well

Waris majeed would be about £4-6m as he is at Moscow

philipp hosiner would cost a bit more just because its liverpool.

Evening all,

What's all this about Luis to city for 40 odd million? Sure everyone is going to want him but as they say, there is no smoke without fire! Any know anything about what the papers are going to reveal in the morning? Just wanna say also, what a bloody goal by zatlan

Any chance of Zlatan coming in on loan in January Ed's, he was talking about us the otherday, maybe he's sticking his toe in the water? XD

14 Nov 2012 22:34:34
What's this news about a big transfer regarding our beloved lfc? I was hoping for some good news, but it seems as though its Suarez to man city? Is this TRUE?

14 Nov 2012 22:31:02
The big transfer news is that Juan Mata's brother Stig will be joining Liverpool when he has recovered from injury. He will be available just after Easter and will be supplying the cutting edge we need!!
Ben Terug

I kind of laughed

Jesus! really...

I don't think he'll help. Too many holes in defence as it is.

Have to go with "The Miz" on this one Really!?

Question Eds,

When someone says player X makes 100K per week. Do the contracts run 52 weeks a year, 52x100K=5.2MM or do the players get paid 100K per week only for the length of the season? Hoping you could clear that up for me.

Thanks.

Lee {Ed001's Note - depends on the contract, some clubs (Blackpool being one that springs to mind) pay less during the close season.}

When i played senior football I was on a yearly wage that was broke up weekly.

and got a few extra quid for bonuses appearance money, goals ect

14 Nov 2012 21:58:31
Suarez to man city seems to be the story I always thought even if we sold Torres he wouldn't go to another English team and did also only signed a new contract 2 seasons b4 he went I no Suarez signed a new deal this season but doesn't mean anything

14 Nov 2012 21:51:31
Pepe Reina wants to leave the club in January.

Taxi for Pepe!

Pepe..Cabs Are Here!

for £16-20m why not

Get Mihaylov down here where he should have been all along wasn't it for work permit issue.

16-20m? hahha i laugh in your face

Ibras 4th goal was amazing skill.

MIKEY

Great goal but also a good amount of lucky punt

14 Nov 2012 21:47:59
Suarez to man city in January.
Just what I have heard from a few different places, and also the media is using the celebration against Chelsea as the reason that he is leaving, no one celebrated with him as he has supposedly ruined the dressing room and split the club in half over something, they decided to celebrate with carra instead
All bs if you ask me, but just passing on some info, it may be crap but it may not be
Jbplfc

How gullible are you!!

It's true Suarez wants out, but the club have tried to keep it quite to keep the fans onside.

14 Nov 2012 21:35:31
Earlier today I called Ibrahimovic overrated. I was wrong. He was absolutely sensational tonight and his last goal nearly made me mess myself. I was wrong and we'll leave it as that.

14 Nov 2012 21:21:03
Redspud put a comment on earlier about how overrated Ibrahimovic is - I pointed out the lad is class and has played for top clubs, for top coaches and won Championships in all of the leagues he has played - then someone pointed out his goals per game ratio was c**p, what would Rodgers do for a striker that scores every other game against top quality defenders.

Wow - just seen his 4th goal.

Now tell me he's overrated.

John B

Can you imagine the media if an England player scored 4 in a game? Even if they were all taps ins, they'd go wild.
Look at Joe Hart good young goalkeeper but severely over hyped for such a young player with so few games and now suddenly he doesn't look so good.

I really rate Ibra but he just demonstrated how bad your typical English centre back is.

The starting team completely dominated sweden

Sterling is Englands best player so happy he's at Liverpool

Talk all over twitter some transfer news concerning LFC will come out tomorrow. One journo Rory Smith apaprently saying not good news for Liverpool. Could Reina be on his way out? {Ed052's Note - that would be good not bad...}

It about Citeh readying a 40M bid for Saurez in Janurary.

Ooohhhh Ed,surely you dont mean that?

Same old F-----G story which has been going on for the last 15 years, international friendlies come along and guess what F-----G whisky nose pulls his star players OUT,no Rooney and just noticed no Van Persie, both of which I GUARANTEE will be fit for the weekend, fergie only lets his players play when it suits him

It's about time we as a club started pulling our own players out and giving them a rest, especially now as we don't have a big squad and cannot afford any injuries, but tonight we have Gerrard,Sterling,Johnson,Sahin, and Suarez all playing

alan50

What about Cleverley, Young, Wellbeck...

Guess who the first two subs are Cleverly and young, Whiskey nose must have been on the phone.

14 Nov 2012 21:00:47
you cant begrudge them man he is the master, although there is still 3 united players for england and rooney got a knock at the weekend

I try and look at it differently in that as long as they don't get injured or too tired, then the experience against good opposition esp players like Sterling, can only be a good thing for us! But yer, take your point, as soon as Fergie has left this world, football will breathe a sign of relief!

Keith

What about them? there all rubbishe. Wouldnt step near the England team if they played for anyone else.

Finally other fans see how rubbishe RH is as a manager. Every LFC fan knows it.

Lee73

Cleverly and young first to be subbed lol and welbeck isnt that important, when the strings for rvp and fat wazza already been pulled.

14 Nov 2012 19:48:51
There is one reason why Torres doesn't score as many goals as he did when he was with us, simple

STEVEN GERRARD

Gerrard made Torres and Torres knows it, he knows he will never play with someone like Gerrard again and thats why he was so appreciative in his comments towards Gerrard last week.

Gerrard was the same with Owen, always seeing his runs, and thats why if Torres really wanted to get his form back he should beg to come back to Liverpool. However he has taken a road which is nearly impossible to turn round!

A sad end to what could have been a glorious career, in which Liverpool were at fault as much as Torres

Evered

Stop posting about Torres he doesn;t play for us anymore and wont in the future so who cares.

Red1

Ah now mate, i love stevie as much as the next liverpool fan, but hazard, oscar, lampard, and mata are just as gud at supplying chances as he is

Jak

Of course Gerrard Made Torres
But Torrres is gone now and won't be back except in re-runs of old matches

He is simply a chump, sick of hearing about him!

Oooh Red1 Calm down dear

Evered

You'r having a laugh, all those chelski players you mentioned are more interested in their own performance than setting up torres for a chance on goal.Stevie used to set him up with plenty of chances in and around the box, thats the difference

Sorry, but have to disagree with you all here. Alonso made both Torres and Gerrard. Neither have been the same since he left. It was his pasing ability that found the(admittedly good) runs of Gerrard and Torres and his positional discipline that enabled Gerrard to charge forward without having to worry about getting back. Brian.

14 Nov 2012 19:48:19
Anyone any knowledge of what the major major transfer story is at LFC!?

NS

My thinking is Nicolas Anelka as the Chinese season has now closed and he wants a return to the premier league.

Baz

Yes is Joel Pohjanpalo will join in Jan.

I've heard 2 different things. Either that Reina is on his way out or that Man City will be trying their hardest to get Suarez (money no object type of bid - that FSG will not be able to turn down)

Pepe Reina wants to leave in January.

Word is they are thinking of bringing in a new tea lady

Man city are going to try and sign suarez.

Demand aguero plus cash for suarez just to kill off city's interest

14 Nov 2012 19:41:18
The way many of the fans have set themselves up, they will get very disappointed i fear, at the lack of a ''star striker''.

I think we will look for a lower league player or a cheap import from a lesser league abroad. I'm all on board with Charlie Austin becoming a red. If we are even looking at him that is.

But at this point i think we all need patience, Rodgers has just come in the door, he's playing the youth and we're battling for every point, as evidenced at Stamford Bridge. Hard work is the best work and the most likely to produce wins.

14 Nov 2012 19:32:11
eds, i've heard some rumours that we'll be announcing a new transfer tomorrow, personally i don't think there's any truth in it, but if you could shed any light on the information it would be much appreciated,
cheers,

If true it would have to be a player that is out of contract or out of season and wouldn't be able to sign until January unless out of contract.

Anyone care to remind me how much andy carrolls wages are per week when we bought him? I guess that arguement about high transfer fees low wages is out the window then?

Stop making lame excuses guys the minute u learn to accept dalglish's failings in the transfer market the sooner you'll learn to get behind BR 100% which is where i am right now. BR is doing his best to fix everything thats broken

BR doesn't set the wages, that is done by agents and the club representatives so don't try blame kenny for anyone and wages.

IF BR is doing his best to fix whats broken god help us

LFC is even more doomed than I thought

Br will not fix it pal. what the players get paid is not are problem. you need to see the light br is not the man to take this club foward.

What's broken mate, the team last year
got to 2 CUP FINALS winning 1,this team
that BR is building doesn't look like
winning 2 games on the bounce anytime
soon, the results at the moment are very
erratic to say the least...........

auntie annie...........

So you think wages is not an issue? what planet are you on? aquillani 60 grand per wk cole 90 grand per wk johnson 90 grand per wk enrique 60 grand per wk just those few players wages comes to 15 million per year

Why are the wages are problem. thats football. who cares what they are on.

Can I just make one point? I believe that when i saw Kenny's buys come in, i was very excited as a Liverpool fan. On their current form, most of those players had there values matched in a combination of wages and fees. We cant blame Kenny for those buys, I mean Downing was voted player of the season, Carroll scoring hat- tricks, Adam scoring amazing free kicks, etc. So can we please stop abusing a legend, and respect him for stepping in last year, when the club needed him.

Piledriver

Come on, Adam? Really? Henderson was a gamble in the hope he would push on and Carroll was a panic buy having took the cash for Torres. Let's not pretend we thout they were world beaters

I agree with not slagging Kenny of but that's it.

Reusch

The OP only sensible post here today

Just remember, the transfers of Torres and Carroll was linked, we got £50m for Torres and paid £35m for Carroll. net profit £15m if the transfer of Carroll to WH goes through for reported £17m total profit for the 2 playeers £32m, enough to buy a decent striker. Not a bad bit of buisness overall

Bobbinred

Anyone who says they were excited by the prospect of carroll and suarez up front together with adam and downing supplying crosses is a liar

Jak

If we hadnt got carroll though we would have had just had suarez because ngog and jovanovic werent good enough. the reason that buy was so bad was because torres left late in the window and everyone knew we needed a striker and could hold us to ranson

See Torres is crying over his nickname Elders Nino. He didn't like or and people who called or him at deep lazy to learn his name. Its a real shame he forgot to tell those who titled his bullshiography that. I could've swore that's what it was called ha ha. The difference in heart between Torres and Suarez is like night and day, if the chips are down Suarez will always want the ball and believe he could make something hapen. Torres is class when everything is goin for him, but has he got the same desire as Suarez? No where near, not even close. Now run along El Nino, go and write another biography and call it by a name you don't like, maybe El Cog to let us all know what a crucial part you played in your teams 2 finals season.
JohnBoy {Ed001's Note - his nickname in most of Spain is apparently 'El Nina' (I think that's how it is spelt anyway, only heard it spoken before), it is the feminine version of El Nino.}

14 Nov 2012 18:32:09
Ha ha, he's defo a little feminine and sensitive Ed. On a serious note I really can't believe he titled his autobiography by that name, I know I'm repeating myself but surely if he disliked it as much as he saying these days have he could've called it something else

Hi lads ,Toon fan here .Just wanna say Congrats to your man Stevie G on his 100th England cap ,GREAT servant to his Country.

Nice one mate. So good to see someone celebrating it for what it is. Been reading so much rubbish about whether or not Gerrard is better than this player or that player over the last couple of days. Any other country would just be celebrating a fantastic achievement by a fantastic player. Keep going Stevie G...

Sorry mate but I wish if Stevie Gerrard would concentrate on Liverpool and give up international football.

Question for ed 001 if i may, with all these names being mentioned as targets for jan, who in you`re opinion would/should be targets? For example, people keep talking about a poacher but would that not change our formation from a 433 to a 442 as such? Would we not be better looking for an attacking goal scoring midfielder or a more experienced front left or right striker/winger? Thanks for you`re efforts, the best site on net for football chat.
Edsred. {Ed001's Note - for me, it would be someone like Llorente, that would allow Suarez to move out wide or drop deep behind him. It would also mean we would have someone who can score goals if Suarez is out. Sterling, Suso and Assaidi will, I am sure, contribute regular goals in time, but right now, for me, our priority is to have someone who can score goals now.}

Is Llorente the Juve pretty much a done deal ED01? Can't be on huge wages at Bilbao and would certainly be worth the fee in Jan, if Athletic aren't stubborn.

Papa G {Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware, nothing has been done yet.}

Why would we buy llorente when we could recall carroll from loan. yes less clinical but they are both big target men(not the type of football rodgers wants).
if a striker is bought suarez will prob move out to the right wing and sterling on left and not the 442 formation the you spoke about.

14 Nov 2012 16:44:19
It will be Nathen Dyer and Shane Long. Both obtainable within our budget and up to premiership speed in the middle of the season.
Remember Borini was signed as our first choice striker, we are not going to spend huge money because he is currently injured. Just think on who he wanted ( Dempsey ) when you are thinking about who he might be after, common sence tells you he wont be much different, in style or budget.

There is no way Jeremy Peace will let Long leave the baggies anytime soon

I like dyer quick hard working & can finish
Paisley's genius

Agree with OP but the scary thing is we
will probably end up with SHANE LONG
and he is not going to get us TOP 4

Spot on OP.
Its bargain basement buys now, forget about big signings, as it is against FSG objectives.
It will be some lesser know lad, trumped up as the next big thing.

HI Eds

Wouldn't it be best for LFC if they looked for a striker that was on Suarez's understanding. For example Rodriguez and Kuyt had an understanding with Suarez and created a lot. The same way Gerrard and Torres had a great understanding. The names that are floating around like Sturridge, Walcott, Hooper ( if these are genuiene LFC targets) don't seem like strikers that would be the right partner for Suarez.

Much appreciated

Unfortunately interest appears to have waned, but the player I would have liked to see is Kevin Gameiro.

We need a younger Maxi!

All these persons saying SG is passed it and not playing well need to get a grip. He has altered his game, probably told to be the manager ( thats what happens in pro football ), when he was charging forward all guns blazing in the past he usually had a world class holding midfielder behind him, or even two ( Hamman, Alonso, Mascherano, Lucas ), Lucas has been out now for nearly a year in all honesty and the style we play has changed. Start to look at the game and see the whole picture.

I have just looked at a poll done on the 'whiniest' football fans in the Premiership. Man Utd came top with Liverpool second. This is probably true due to the fact that we rarely get behind our team and seem to moan ALOT. Lets get some atmosphere back to Anfield. {Ed002's Note - On the plus side being second means that the Liverpool fans will be able to compete in Europe next season for the EuroWhine Cup.}

Ed , that is a quality reply lol

That was awful ed002
NotInTheKnow

I have no faith that we could win the coveted EuroWhine cup, Ed002. BR out, FSG out, etc, etc.

Look at the weather wet & windy wife's ran off with the neighbours cat, nothing on the telly again, work isn't going well nothing in the fridge to eat why I have to cook anyway I just don't know!beer is too expensive,my slippers are on the wrong feet, don't see why I should change them & I've just found out that we are the 2nd whiniest fans why the 2nd I just don't know it's always like this on a Wednesday,(the rest of the week's not much better)I blame Brussels what with the e.u. & the euro & they give me wind...heard we are signing messi don't think it will work out though think he might be overrated..
Harold van dimblefart

Man u anf lfc have the most fans so the ratio of moaners will be higher than the less supported teams.

Has anyone whined about the fact that we are second behind Utd again?

Hello Ed002,
I know LFC and its fans deserve and await much more than being 10th or so in the league but with only one striker in play and all changes being made, it`s quite good. We know that the team needs to be stronger upfront and we hope that January will change that for better. For now, let`s just pray that Luis does not get injured or suspended as he`s doing fantastic job. Although I would like to see more wins than draws but we have to remember that Liverpool hasn`t been beaten in PL in recent weeks. I think it`s all going in the right direction, still feel that EL spot next season is definitely ours, I also think there`s still a good chance of CL next year. Carra was fantastic at Chelsea but SG is well below his and our expectations this season. Keep the faith all Liverpool supporters!

I think Henderson is a talented, young player who could have a good LFC future, but he really has his work cut out for him and right now it's difficult seeing him displacing any our midfielders. It's difficult seeing how he could fit in.

We have Lucas, Sahin, Allen, Shelvey and Suso, who each bring varying attributes to the table.
Lucas is our only DM and noone in this side comes remotely close to doing what he does just as well.

We have Sahin, a fantastic deep-lying playmaker terrific at receiving the ball from the back and initiating attacks.
Allen is the passmaster, our conductor who orchestrates and keep our play moving.

In Shelvey we have a powerful, athletic AM who's excellent in driving forward with the ball from midfield, distributes excellently, packs a good on either foot, makes well-timed runs into the box and scores.

Suso's our master technician in the final third. He receives and retains the ball superbly in tight spaces under pressure, dribbles well, has immaculate vision and incisive, defence-splitting passes and packs a mean shot on his left peg.

Now these players, Lucas, Allen, Sahin, Shelvey and Suso, all have one trait that, sadly, Henderson lacks: addiction to responsibility. They are constantly making themselves available for a pass and demand the ball. They never shy away. They want the ball, they demand the ball.

My problem with Henderson has always been his shirking responsibility, hiding and playing within himself. Keeping it 'simple' is sure not a bad thing, but too much of it is really tooooo much.

The kid actually can play, as I have said. He does have the ability to keep the ball well and distribute both long and short just as well. He's quick, agile, can skin a man or two over some two yards, he can handle himself well in tight spaces, has fairly good ball-winning skills, impressive engine, capable on either foot and he can shoot and score.
He just has to step it up and let it all come out.

He could've been a better version of Allen, with the added advantage of goalscoring ability and immense athleticism.
Now I'm thinking he should perhaps become somewhat of DM.
He's a hardworker with a top engine and never seems to tire. He is fairly good at winning the ball.
If he were to work and improve on this aspect like Lucas, we'd have ourselves a handy, handy player and alternative to Lucas.
The plus point with Henderson is that he's a much better passer than the Brazillian, and with his attacking background, transitioning from defence to attack would be much more seamless.

Other than this, the lad I think will mainly have to fight it out with Buck Darling Allen. He's more similar to the latter than he is to Suso, Sahin and Shelvey, who are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Good luck, kid, hope it works out for you.

Prospero

I agree with this. I think we are pretty well stocked in the central midfield area. Henderson looks OK but will be sold in my opinion as soon as we get a decent offer. We lack effective wide men that can score in a 4-3-3. I would kill for a Valencia, Rooney, Bale, Oscar, Hazard, Tevez - all can play out wide in a 433 and score. I know Suarez could play here too and I expect him to if we get a centre forward in January. Sterling is great but no goal scorer yet - l think he would also suit a more counter attacking team like Benitez used to play.

14 Nov 2012 16:13:48
I agree. He is a good footballer, just not a confident footballer. If you want to see the real Henderson, look at the Englad U21 where he comes out of his shell, he takes responsibility and is a brilliant captain.

Jolly Red

I agree, but sahin is not the midfielder we need.
with lucas coming back we will have to much off the same.
lucas allen good passers,we need a midfielder than can take on players,so 1 defender needs to step out.
busquets xavi great passers and needed, but iniesta can dribble.
we need a playmaker around allen lucas.
gerrard has a few years left if we are able to rest him when needed.
erikson/gotze would be on my wishlist in januari.

Agree 100% mate, theres people on here not giving th kid the same chance as the other youngsters just because of his transfer fee.
However that said and done, I do get a feeling that although BR might rate him, he might have to cash in to raise the funds to improve in other positions.
RNred

I agree Henderson is an absolute world star.He would walk into any team in the world. He just oozes class.Note the sarcism

Mufc 19

That post just demonstrated how much smoke has been blown up the average football fans arse in the "premiership" years.
Regardless of Era's. Most if these players wouldn't get a sniff of the ball if they played 30 years ago. Older men they may have been, but most could at least use both feet. Footballers get a contract on being a defensive midfielder. They were the rap players years ago.haha!!
Leftfieldy

The thing with Henderson is he's immensely talented, by all accounts works his socks off on the training ground, and has a good head on his shoulders for a kid. I know they're pretty silly, but he nearly always seems to win the goofy little keepy-uppy, kick the ball in the trash can type challenges on the LFC website. Just need to figure out how to translate all of that onto the pitch and I think he could be a very good player for us.

Jolly Red

He was playing against N.Ireland's u21's. I'd look okay there too. I've seen him be dreadful for England U21's on many occasions.

Not kicking the guy, because I do think he can contribute. But one decent game against a poor side does not a player make.

Don't try to make out that he is something he is not. Stating he's been great for the U21's is a fabrication. Simply not true.

BJH YNWA

I would much rather keep Henderson than buy Sahin permanently. Henderson's Englands Under 21 captain and a quality player, offers a lot more than Sahin. Would rather get a attacking midfielder like Holtby who is also on a free. My midfield for the start of next year would be Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Holtby, Shelvey and Suso.

PJ

14 Nov 2012 18:23:01
Whilst he has look dreadful for the U21, I'm not talking about the N.I. match which I didn't watch. There are countless other matches for the U21 where he has played very well and just like you say I shouldn't base my opinion on one match, neither should you on a few matches. Especially Pool matches where he has usually been out of position (on the right) and down low on the pecking order, neither of which help an already lacking in confidence player.

Jolly Red

Valencia has scored 0 goals in 11 games this season and scored 6 in 40 games in all competitions last season?
Walcott is the player that scores goals playing in a front 3.

To be fair if you see what zlatan actually said it was taken out of context...

He was talking about gerrard and saying that he never played outside England...

He was quoted as 'Liverpool are a big club but he should have tried an big international club...

I think he was just meaning outside England...

If any other team had 100 million to spend in 2 windows they'd be challenging for the title

You really need to start to understand. The Ed's must be sick and tired of trying to explain this by now, so for the last time.
Whilst we have matched the transfer fees of some of the big spending clubs, we can not and have not matched the wages. So on the whole although it looks like we have paid the same money for players as city, over the course of a 5 year contract, they have paid considerably more.
There is also the fact that the type of player you are expecting just will not come, be it for wages, CL, or the uncertainty of where the club is heading.
Now if you would like to list 6 players who we could have had for £100m transfer fee, and who would have taken the wages we can afford, that would have won the league I am sure we would all be gratefull.

Like QPR?
GOD

How much did qpr spend

So true and the fact is we spent £120m in two transfer windows

14 Nov 2012 14:31:50
Hi Eds, great site and thanks for all work and effort you put in, would you have any idea how much BR will have to spend in January. Rumours of alot of players out there but may not be in his budget to get whoever he may want and thus reduce us to bargain basement again. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

14 Nov 2012 12:35:08
Some of you people are deluded. We will not sign the likes of Pato or Huntelaar. What we need is a new CM to replace the aging Steven Gerrard. His performances have been below par. I would suggest signing Liam Trotter as he has been performing well for his current team. Brendan should make the team look like this

Jack Butland

Flanagan
Shawcross
Hangeland
Andre Santos

Joe Allen
Liam Trotter
Aaron Ramsey

Downing
Carroll
Etherington

The importance of a british core of the team cannot be expressed enough. Let this team gel and it will win the PL in 5 years

YNWA {Ed022's Note - Really? And you're criticising others for being deluded? Butland I agree with, he's a truly fantastic prospect, but lets look at this properly. Flanagan has potential, so there is a case to be made for him also, but there are no guarantees. Shawcross is a good defender, but to say he's inconsistent is an understatement. Hangeland is a defender I rate very highly, but how old will he be in 5 years exactly? Far too old to win the PL. Andre Santos? I don't even need to argue my case as to why he's not good enough to be in most starting 11's, let alone Liverpool's - especially with the likes of Kelly. Joe Allen, good player, so I agree with you on that much. Liam Trotter - once again, what are the guarantee's that he's going to fulfill any of his potential? None. Ramsey? Severely immature and seems to decide when he wants to play well - not worth even considering in my view. Downing? Jesus christ. For one, he'd be in his mid 30's and he sucks as it is, so I dread to think what he'd be like in 5 years. Carroll? An interesting choice and one worth considering I will admit. He'd be 27 then (peak age it's argued) so could be one to watch. Etherington? For me this seems like a choice for comedic affect, and isn't even worth discussing. Hope you've all missed my blunt answers though!}

14 Nov 2012 13:21:35
Is a joke post surely haha? If this is serious, I must say I disagree. A much better team for the future would be:

---------------------Kahn---------------------
--------Bramble----Richards----Elekobi---------
------------Wanyama----Haye-----------------
Downing------------Messi-----------------Bebe
------------Rush-----------Dalglish------------

With that brutal keeper and defence strikers would fear us. Wanyama and David Haye could batter any midfield, And Messi would bring out the best in Downing, Bebe, Rush and Dalglish (who have the experience at the highest level and know the club inside out).

Good shout anyone? Or should I have Andy Murray up top? He knows how to serve up a hell of a shot..

YNWA! (Adam)

Trying to decide whether this post is a wind up to get people to write back or if its actually for real.

I think somebody's taking the mickey.

Brede Hageland is 31 and slow, we have a much younger version in Seb Coates who is getting stronger with each game he plays and is learning from one of the best Carragher, yes they get caught for pace and have to play a tight game.

But surely these games with Carra will see Coates get pretty much the same education as Skrtel and Agger did and Carra learned much he can share with Coates about how Hyypia used his physicality and the like.

So, i don't think we need the Norway defender.

Cant we have a dummy award? We vote for the dumbest post each week and then put in on top of the side. That way we could have a lough before reading more serious posts.

The Rob

I swear to god 99% of you guys dont grt sarcasm.

What is Zlatan Ibrahimovic going on about. He is one of the worlds most over rated players who relys on an entire team to make him look better. Hope Gerrard puts him on his arse within the first minute! And well done to Gerrard on what will hopefully be his 100th cap tonight!

RedSpud

Overrated !! - Behave.

He is probably one of the most prolific trophy winners in Europe, 6 Serie A titles, I La Liga, 2 Dutch titles, not to mention numerous Cup Winners trophies and personal awards and also rated and bought by the most some of the most respected coaches in Europe.

I wish we had a winner like that in our side.

John B

Steven gerrard will be forever remembered as a legend for this club, he is loved by us supporters. Ibrahimovic will never have that status with any club he has played for and money cannot buy that respect like we have for stevie. Jdog

Ibra is rubbish, look at his goal to game retrun rate and even his assists.

Whatever the merits of Ibrahimovic as a player, to say Gerrard should leave Liverpool ( a big club) for a bigger international club is ridiculous.
Of the clubs Ibrahimovic has played for Liverpool are bigger than Inter, AC Milan, Ajax, PSG and probably Juventus. I also believe worldwide, Liverpool are as big as Barcelona, although obviously not quite as successful at the moment.

I would like to see Stephen go to Real Madrid for two years.
He has been an excellent servant but has carried the club for too long.
It would be nice to see him win something special at the end of his career.

Sangria

OP - Stop reading Sky. Ibra actually praised Gerrard's ability and his loyalty to LFC.

Reactionary nitwits everywhere.

14 Nov 2012 10:21:44
I think if we got frimpong & wimyama for our midfield (competition for Lucas & gerrard repectively) & Walcott to replace downing + hooper upfront, would b good business. Would send hendo out to EPL club on loan. Frimpong, Walcott & hooper could b cheap due to their contracts. AC would pay for wimyama.

Then next summer blow our 30m budget on world class striker & fight to keep Suarez.

Jimbob

Worst post ever n I mean ever..... Frimpong??? Are u mad??? Lol ....terrible

Ack17

With BR's tippy tappy style there is no place for a Wanyama type player... unfortunately.

14 Nov 2012 10:18:45
Joe Allen

He has had a bad couple of games particularly against Chelsea. However prior to that he had settled in well.

I think Lucas injury is having an effect on his form, he is having to play deeper & more conservative in possession. When at Swansea drove more with the ball, much more attacking.

I say we will see a different Allen when Lucas gets back & at that point judge him.

Jimbob

So allen can't play without Lucas

Jaysus

What next?

Allen needs a blue moon and the left foot of a witches cat (to play) and then only when it alligns with a harvest moon.

14 Nov 2012 12:17:00
Finally! Great post mate. It would be like trying to see the best of Suarez by putting him in defense.

Jolly Red

Really?..then what was gelnn johnson doing at left back..a rb by birth...did he played well ther?
just admit..allen has been awful in past 4-5 games..
this is the same way we continued to support, henderson, downing, adam and caroll the whole year..
and did they changed?

Since Lucas was out injured we have switched are standard formation from a 1-2 to a 2-1 triangle. This is solely due to not having a defensive midfielder.

It is not a problem playing 2-1 with 3 midfield passers (Allen, Gerrard, Sahin) however it means that we rely on defending the midfield by highy focusing on keeping the ball (without a ball winner - Lucas) and to do this all passing must be highly cohesive and accurate.

The fact is the midfield 3 is not cohesive at the moment as its 1/3 into the first season and Sahin is played out of postion most of the time, as the "1" ahead of the "2" (Gerrard and Allen). He should be deeper as he played for Dortmund the Alonso / Pirlo role.

Against Chelsea Rodgers switched his system 3 times (In the 28th minute he was caught by the TV camera instructing his players to tilt the midfield triangle to 1-2 with Sahin now joining Gerrard higher up the pitch). Then in the 60th minute, the team reverted to their usual 4-2-3-1 shape.

Obviously the players should be capable of adapting to the changes but with 3 passers in the midfield triangle it makes it even more really difficult for them to perform as a unit hence the poor showing against Chelsea.

It is obvious that Lucas (or another quality defensive midfielder) is key to our midfield (and any top midfield unit in any team) so am therefore very confident that you will see Allen and Sahin shine on a more consistent basis once Lucas is back. So please don't slag Allen off as you havn't seen anywhere near his potential just yet.

Cheers JK

In my opinion he has played very well for the last month for example against everton i though he was immense. But again Chelsea he was poor, i wouldn't take anything by it because he is a great confident, young, talented lad!

14 Nov 2012 16:09:06
Also, to the anonymous poster, it is not the same as Johnson because he is capable of playing with both feet in a position that generally requires the same skill set (at left or right back). All Johnson has to do is focus more - which he does well at LB - and work more with his opposite foot, which he is decent at anyway, to play there.

Allen, on the other hand, has to adapt his whole style of play to play as defensive midfielder. He is more cautious going forward because he is the holding player. He is required to mark, tackle and intercept more often and is generally more disciplined in his play (against Chelsea you could see he wanted to join attack, but held back for the team).

This is why Allen isn't playing his best game so far (although he has played very well in many matches).

Johnboy,
I wasn't throwing my toys out the pram my friend, i was simply completely disproving your point with logic. Marsh is an excellent coach, but Segura is just far superior. Rodgers should have left Marsh with the U18's, made Segura first team coach and reinstated Kenny to the accademy as director. That would have been better tactically, and kept everyone happy. Dalglish was excellent at the accademy, and Segura could have really helped Rodgers stamp tiki taka on the first team. Marsh was happy and okay as U18 coach.
Its simple mate. Rodgers promoted a guy with far less credentials, because he was scared Segura was a better coach than he was.
Mistakes are there to be learned from, and hopefully Rodgers won't try to please the fans by promoting Scousers because they "know the club".. i know the club a lot more than Pep Guardiola, so i'd be a better manager by that logic..

Im sorry if it cane across as a retaliation Johnboy, but quite simply, Segura was the better option.

YNWA! (Adam)

No problem Adam. You make anyone good points but still I really don't know of it all as simple ad you say.

After watching Tranmere play last night on the TV, do you think the likes of Cole Stockton, might be someone we look at? Young Striker, holds ball up well and not afraid to have a shot, he looks like he has bags of potential and would fit in with the style of play BR wants to play.

If we got offered £20m for Steven Gerrard.

1. Do you think he would move

2.Do you think the club would accept it.

Look forward to hearing various replies

BigD

The club wont get an offer of 20 million for Stevie G at this stage ..
Having said that IF we do get I think the owners would accept it.. I still think he is a class player and has plenty more to offer though not twice a week..he should be played one game a week and maybe he should retire from international football (captain,100th game reached)to prolong his club career..

I'm sure the club would seriously consider an offer of that amount.

Square tomato

The owers might consider but i dont think stevie would agree he is liverpool through and through.

20M for stevie is fantasy.

If he left LFC and at this stage of his career (thats highly unlikely) it would be on a free.

What does Stevie owe LFC answer nothing.

If gerrard was going to go it would have bin that time at chelski. He will c his career out with us now. Any medals elsewhere would b shallow for him, he is a red.

Jimbob

I think Zlatan Ibrahamovic should worry about his own performances and his team without worrying about other players in the game.

Zlatan came from a place without a great football team, so he's completely ignorant to the honour which goes in representing the club you grew up cheering from the stands, you local team that means everything to your local community.

Zlatan doesn't know why Steven Gerrard plays for Liverpool, anyone who read the book knows it's for cousin and the others who fell that day.

Ibra is running his mouth ahead of the International matcxh tonight, getting into Gerrard's mind and putting his head elsewhere, but it comes down to Zlatan being scared of Gerrard and what a fully focused and fit Gerrard can do, plus because it's Gerrard's 100th cap; Gerrard makes for a good talking point.

I think Hooper could be our Rooney (sorry to make a conparison with a united player but thats who he reminds me of in footballing terms) anyways he knows how to get in the box and get those tap ins

I also think walcott would be a great signing

Even though id love Lewandowski etc I wont get my hopes up if we pull off a major Signing then that will be a happy bonus

Fernando Torres just ate some Liver just before going for a swim in a Pool.

The Liver cost 18 pounds and the swim lasted for 45 minutes.

That means he must be coming back to Liverpool for 18 million pounds in 45 days, yippee!

Just thought I would join in and make up some Torres rumours.......lol.

Why would we pay 18m for a has-been?

I think some people just completely missed the point

14 Nov 2012 12:20:32
The Liver actually cost £1.80, and that is the exact price Torres will come back for, perhaps rising to £2.00 with good performances.

18m for Torres would be a steal and no way would Chelsea go for that.

By next season:
OUT:
Carroll 18mil
Downing 6mil
Cole 1mil

Enrique 7mil
Sahin loan

IN:
Frimpong - free
Holtby - free
Walcott - free
Bony - 10mil
Sturridge - free
A new lb - 10mil

+13mil gained

Frimpong? ur having a laugh aren't you? he's a red card waiting to happen id rather henderson than him

So we took Sahin in on a loan from madrid only to loan him out?

What type of Sh*te is this?

What the hell possessed the king to spend that money on Adam, Downing , Henderson and Enrique! Less so Enrique he's actually been of value! And Carroll was forced upon the club by the one who is getting mentioned alot recently! So much talent that could have been bought that would have improved the team not ruined it!

If we knew that we would be managers ourselves , all i think is we would have got away with it if we bought someone else for 20 mill instead of downing , that one buy ruined last season , henderson is young and has shown glimpses of his talent , adam was wanted by a few and nearly singed for spurs , carrol was leading scorer before he got injured and come to us plus he is young aswell , enrique showed at 1st what he was about and many thought he was a good buy , but downing has done nothing , what a waste of 20 mill plus wages ,look at the players who have done well at other clubs since we bought downing and look at their prices , we could have had denba ba and papis cisse for the money spent on downing ot a quality player for 20 mill , we all thought he was bought to provide crosses for andy carrol , so why did he have the most shot at goal in the prem without scoring , and how many chances has he created or how many assists has this 20 mill player had , the stats dont lie . if anyone got kenny the sack it was downing , how many 20 mill players on here have been linked with us for the last 2 that are better than downing , or put it another way who would you all rather have aguero or downing and henderson , if we could see it why couldny kenny

it doesn't take a proff manager to see that those players kenny was buying was not good enough and certainly no where near the prices he and commolli were paying for them?

if you had 100 million would you have bought them?

I certainly would not have

Suarez is the only shining light out of them and he was sought after before Kenny (i believe?) enrique is good on his day but still gives the ball away and gets dispossessed too much

The difference was wages...agueo is on a wage you cant even imagine..but nonethelsee..kk buy were horrible..
arda turan a lfc fan cost 12 mill for atl madrid...y on earth we never went for him is beyond my nkowldge..
keisuki honad..was almost costing 8 mill..instead we bought henderson for 16 mill..
Kk..needs to see a doctor immediatly..

What type of doctor does Kenny need to see?

A witch doctor

A 20/20 hindsight doctor

A doctor of p*ss taking

Dr. Spock

Dr. Who

Kenny did what he thought best for the club and Kenny was sacked without being given enough time for his vision of the team.

at the moment we have no vision just Rodgers and his dictates.
