To anyone who'd care to indulge, and eds if available. Just wanted to ask for your opinion about the salary cap Liverpool want to impose on young Academy players. I admire the stance the club is taking, after all we are talking about young lads who are still studying at school in the main. We need create players who have character and hunger, having to work hard to make a decent career for themselves much like the rest of us mortals, not getting paid obscene amounts for being potentially good in a few years. Notice it is causing some debate with Robbie Savage among others applauding the idea, but on the other hand saying he sees us losing the next Gerrard, Carra, Fowler etc before they reach u23 level. A notion I dismissed myself, as I'd make all the sacrifices needed to make it at my club, but I haven't got an agent telling me well Liverpool are offering you £770pw first professional contract, but Man City want you to join their Academy team and are willing to offer £5000pw, remember that there is no guarantee that you'll reach premier league level so I think you should take City's offer. Like I say, I think we are doing the right thing by promoting strong core values as humans as well as footballers. What would you do if you were 16 again?

If you were 16 then tbh it would all depend on your parents or agent. If they are wispering in your ear that moving for a better contract is best for you, then as 16 yr old you would listen. It all depends on the situation.

Think it could produce a much better atmosphere for players to develop and putting a cap should hopefully help develop a team, rather than in individual. Plus without the distractions of money and ego they can focus on developmening themselves as players. as long as the club repays this and gives them a chance to prove themselves.

Alternatively, it is a players career and can't fault them for wanting to secure their financial securities as soon as possible. End of the day you can be the most talented 16 year old in the world then blow your knee or suffer a double leg break and career is over. Think it is a great idea
And should make a better place for development but fair enough if players worry about their financial future.

I understood it to be a cap on basic salary, will the club offer much much hire incentives than other clubs perhaps some of which would be very obtainable for those the club really want. I'm not sure it'll be as straight forward as it sounds, which is a pity as it seems the right idea to me. Without every club throughout the world doing it, of course it would be problematic in player recruitment. Let's not forget English clubs, and very much Liverpool, have taken huge advantage of young Spanish players who can't sign pro deals. The world has gone mad unfortunately, would be great if this helped. I'd love to hear from the eds as these things are often so complicated.

I think it's a really good idea and that it'll keep some kids feet on the ground. But I think it would be an even better idea if all the clubs did it, like a salary cap for for u21 or something along those lines.

If a youngster moves for money then there's a good chance they won't make it anyway. And if they do make it - it won't be to their full potential. So I wouldn't worry about it. It's a Good idea and with Spurs and other clubs on board hopefully all clubs will join as for the whole it's bound to improve development and attitude throughout England.

I'd like to see every player in the academy signed up to college/ university programs that they must complete in order to remain as part of the academy. Not because I believe all players should be smart - but because it provides a safety net, and an alternative future career/ means of living, if they don't make it or if they suffer serious injury. I've heard stories eminating from America were certain college and university American football teams require players to fulfil educational commitments in order to be on the team/ squad. I think that is something that would make our academy attractive to parents - they're ultimately the ones who'll have their kids ear the most: if you can convince them you have their childs best interests at heart (which, as a club nurturing young players, we should) then it makes our academy, our club, that much more appealing.

i don't thing we will lose out i think what the club are saying is if your good you will be playing first team football dosent mater what age you are.

15 Oct 2016 08:23:38
Maybe it will determine who really wants to play for the Club / badge? Even at a young age.

15 Oct 2016 08:58:45
Definately a good thing, that's a big problem in my eyes these days is overpaid youngsters who's done bugger all. As some have said above, atleast this way we can recognise who the loyal younger ones are, and these are the type of youngsters we want.

15 Oct 2016 16:50:35
I believe Spurs and Southampton are putting similar measures in place. Hopefully this will help us bring through players with the right mentality.

15 Oct 2016 23:44:23
I'd like young players (up to 23) to earn as much as they are capable, BUT I think they should only be allowed access to a set amount and the rest is saved for them for when they retire.

Stops them spending like millionaires when they're 20 and being bankrupt by 40. Controversial? Even mad? But I think these lads can't be trusted to be responsible with their money.

{Ed007's Note - I'd have every player under 23 who hasn't made 100 appearances have a nice sensible haircut, no tattoos, their car had to have no more than a 1600 engine in it and they MUST wear mostly black boots, the 3 stripes or Swoosh are allowed on a black boot. If you step out of line you get fines two weeks wages and your team-mates all get a punch into your arm.
If they aren't training get them tidying up the stadium or out doing work in the community if they don't want to study for qualifications. Breathalysed and piss tested every morning and working in one way or another full-time hours for the club - none of this finishing at 1 pm and swanning off to the races or your latest ad campaign. Sorted :-D

I no its not Liverpool topic but does anyone no were everton are planning on building there new stadium. Word going round there getting the docks which would be huge for them.

{Ed002's Note - You need the Everton page but there is no decision just yet but the likely canditates are Bramley Moore dock and Stonebridge Cross in Croxteth. The docks are preferred but there are challenges there that could impact the schedule.}

Fantastic to read this news yesterday, really happy for the lad, no doubt it'll take him some time to get himself 100% but I really hope we see more of him this season. If anybody can et the best out of the lad it's Klopp.

14 Oct 2016 12:15:43
It's good to read that Joe Gomez has returned to training, and it would be nice for lad if he can remain injury free now as he seems a very promising young player.

Chelsea Premier League season so far

14 Oct 2016 07:16:26
{Ed's Note - We have posted a new article entitled, Chelsea Premier League season so far

Believable2 Unbelievable2

14 Oct 2016 10:01:53
Yes very accurate regarding Chelsea and Conte, Somethings telling me once he has his team sorted out they'll do pretty well, I can see them making top4 this season even over Spurs (aslong as they're behind us its ok) . but we'll see, far to early to say this I suppose but certainly can't rule them out.

15 Oct 2016 05:30:26
I think he is using the team poorly. Their defence isn't very good (as the article says) so playing tight, defensive football makes little sense. They have a number of quality attacking outlets - why not play a more attacking brand of football, they'd certainly blow many teams out of the water. I think Conte's approach is limited and that, the more time goes on, the more frustrated Chelsea fans will get. Playing two defensive midfielders every game just isn't tactically astute. Fair enough against top, attacking opposition but Hull City? It's so rigid, Conte needs to reevaluate his tactics if Chelsea want success.
