I enjoyed reading the posts regarding Irish Kev and the ed and hearing about the ed saying he cried for the first time when Michael Thomas scored that winner.

I started supporting LFC in 1973 and i can remeber the situation quite clearly. My Dad was watching World of Sport and i think, not sure so don't kill me, it was the first season they introduced the vidiprinter. It was 4.45pm and my dad asked me to come to the tv and said i should support the next team who comes up. I'm not too sure but the next team up was Liverpool 1 Middlesboro 0.

When my Ma came into the room, my Dad said 'Look at that, picked the club round the corner, what are the chances of that?'. 'Funny that' my ma says.

I suspected my Dad set me up, how i cannot tell. He's never let on. I often asked what would have happened had i picked another team. My Ma always smiles.

Thank God for my dad.

Very good Bob!
I suspect it was a set up!
But whatever it takes i guess mate.
If any of my kids ever try to support another club i'll put them in the wheelie bin, same thing goes if they are ginger lol (only joking ginger folk - i'm bald so i can't comment on hair really lol).
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

Hey Irish Kev get off your high horse.We all appreciate the ed's thoughts and inside information but my point was that the answer was below the previous the question, which brown nose already noted but 'claimed' to be a joke. Don't bark up the wrong tree my friend cause bitchs like you will get bitten.

Irish RED
******************************
Well bite me Irish RED! !
ha! Lol!
Get a grip young lady!
Now go to bed as you've school in the morning & don't be too brave behind your keyboard pal!
Don't give it if ya can't take it missy!
Irish Kev.
*******
No school for me mate. I work unlike you my little friend who has the ability to sit up till 2 in the morning flirting with the ed. I think Blair is rubbing off on you.No false bravery here either mate, I meant what i said about getting bitten son!
So pipe down and watch your manners. My original post was directed at Blair so keep your big nose out of my questions.

Irish RED (ED im at work so my IP address is different than last night thanks)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Ed, please post this & i'll leave it at this i promise!
I'm sorry Irish RED but i won't get into a war of words with you because clearly you have the better of me intellect wise lol. I have the ability to sit up till 4 or 5am in the morning (maybe i'm the milkman Blair lol) if i like & still go to work the next day & be 100% tuned in due to the fact that i work for myself - lucky me eh?!
Do you want to go down the Ronaldo route & ask me how much i earn by comparison to you? Very mature!
Judging by other peoples reactions to your posts including the ed's reaction maybe you should just "pipe down yourself" & less of the threats as you cannot ever scare me with your keyboard lol, i guarantee you i have seen a lot more than you in life & i'm still here in full health so internet threats aren't gonna worry me mate!
Now if you want to talk, lets talk football not talk $hite mate!
But understand one thing - i do not like when someone tries to be smart / smug as you tried the other night with Blair in regards his asking the ed something. If i'm not mistaken, it is something you should have minded your own business about & kept your "big nose" out of initially before i added my bit to defend his entitlement.
I am sorry if you don't agree but i ask you to look back over the posts from last night & hopefully you'll see.
The funniest thing of all is Blair was clearly only joking in the first place but you got all serious so it's all been about nothing.
Cheers, sorry & thanks in advance ed,
Irish Kev.

I just read a fantastic article on the mirror football by david maddock about why torres left lfc , I must say it is a very well written artcle that brings all lfc fans justice and lfc club. To all lfc fans read it it will make you feel great and at peace.

Ed, will ALSONO! ever return to LFC?

{Editor's Note: I doubt it.}

15 Feb 2011 23:30:39
Cannot believe for the life of me why people are slagging off John Henry & co!

As John Henry said, he couldn't understand how the day they published £70 million in losses, Chelsea went out and spent £70 million on two players. The day Abramovich and Mansiour walk away, Chelsea and City will be crippled with ridiculous wage bills. Isn't the idea of business to operate based on your expected income, then you invest the profits?

{Editor's Note: Chelsea's wage bill was reduced significantly in the summer.}

15 Feb 2011 23:14:05
Ed what makes you think hazard or sanchez would not come to anfield? For the right price I think they would. {ed's note - they have their pick of Champions League clubs and neither support Liverpool. What makes you think they would come?}

It depends on whether these clubs would stump up the cash asked for them which I doubt most will and I wouldn't rule us out there based on the fees we have just paid in an effort to move forward. The owners also said they are willing to invest heavily on young potential stars. Ed, I also had your perspective before but Suarez has changed that who was in a similar position to the said players. I remember Suarez saying before the world cup that in England he was only interested in united and spurs and that clubs like barcelona were also watching him, but he is here. This is why I believe it is possible.

15 Feb 2011 23:17:31
The signing of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez reminds me of John Charles and Omar Sivori signing for Juventus in 1957 .

I think Kenny Dalglish will soon line up :

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Reina. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . .Kelly. . . .Carragher. . . .Agger. . . . .

Johnson. . . .Gerrard. . . . .Meireles. . . . Aurelio

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Cole. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . Suarez. . . . . Carroll. . . . . . . . . .

Seen a few bad tackles tonight in the Milan game and it made me remember the tackle that made my blood boil. . . . the one of which essien done to hamann. Remember this ed? {ed's note - and the Lampard one on Alonso was a nasty one too, no attempt to play the ball whatsoever.}

Ed, Shelvy, Lucas, Merieles, Gerrard, Adam, young, kuyt,
Marveuax, could POSSIBLY' be our midfield players and what I am saying is that yes gerrard is a WORLD CLASS PLAYER on his day but i belive his days are behind him and would YOU put him in the first team yourself?

So is Ed left or right footed, a holding or an attacking midfielder, or is he the long awaited solution to the Alonso problem?

15 Feb 2011 22:42:30
Ed i'm at the end of my tether now! !

Why the hell are we so cheap, meaning why does our own official site want to charge us to watch to watch reserve team highlights?! !. . And why do we want to charge our own fans to watch Under 18 fa cup highlights?! !. .This is totally disgraceful! . . all the other top teams websites show these type of games for free, yet we want to charge?? . .

Please shed some light as to why we are so petty?

Surely FSG must change this?. LOL, we've even forced youtube to take down the highlights of the Under 18's thrashing Southend cos it was 3 minutes long! . . What is going on?

YNWA

SI

{Editor's Note: I am afraid I have heard nothing about this. I suggest you right to the marketing deparatment explaining that making these games available for free spreads the word and brings in new supporters, and allows existing supports a taste of what is to come.}

15 Feb 2011 22:37:57
Ed, Ino LFC atm aren't near as good as the 70 and 80 teams but why are we not showing an interest in world class players than just good to very good players or even producing a sanchez or pedro. Is money a factor or city. Ed, your thoughts?

{Editor's Note: The club have their targets just as any other. They cannot go after every player and have to look for those who will give value and will improve the squad.}

15 Feb 2011 22:40:20
Ed, one to put put there. Who do you think will field the strongest 11' next season. And also do you think we will have a good a team as arsenal or chelsea next season?

{Editor's Note: I have no way of answering this sensibly.}

To all those who said Suarez wasn't eligable for europa. He set to be named in the squad. yes what a lot of people are saying about the rules are correct but the fact that Suarez played Champions league for Ajax and not Europa and they are two completely different competitions and that Ajax have not yet named a squad for Europa. So do the math and read the rules correctly.

{Editor's Note: You clearly don't understand the rules. Suarez is not eligible and he is not in the Liverpool squad which has already been named. The naming of the Ajax squad is of no relevance to this at all. Suarez will not be appearing again this season in European competition.}
---------------------------------

Because Suarez has already played for Ajax in CL he CAN NOT play for us in the Europa League because Ajax are ALSO in the Europa League.

If they were STILL in the CL or OUT of European competition altogether THEN there would be NO problem.

15 Feb 2011 22:21:43
Ok caldwell I agree with but james macarthy. We shud go 4 him.? Ed.?

{Editor's Note: I don't see that he would improve the squad.}

People can believe what they want about Torres put in a request at the last minute but that is naive. . Liverpool knew shortly after the transfer window opened that he wanted to go.

And nesv got away with it as well as broughton. .if h&g had sold Torres there would have been uproar, but slick pr from nesv and broughton and everyone thinks the sun shines out their proverbial backside.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Man there is a difference. Torres didn't put up a transfer request during h&g time, but he did during NESV's so they had no other option. So what are you trying to say? that NESV forced torres to submit a transfer request to gather money? Don't you think it'd be quite stupid.

The standard of football on the Continent seems to be pretty poor now. Apart from 2/ 3 Spanish, and 1/ 2 German the rest are very average.
I reckon at least 6 x English clubs could easily compete in CL at present. And quite probably qualify for the knockout phase.
I get why Platini is widening the number of countries who can enter the CL, but it is quantity over quality in my opinion.

Gotta say respect to Crouch for putting up with that horrible rat gattuso and scoring. That was one of the most disrespectful things I've ever seen in football, still put money on Jordan to batter him!

Can everyone top slating broughton for the dubai snub
personally i would prefer to have stable, passionate ownership who are in it for the long term, who won't seriously be affected by the new fair play rules, than become a soulless, arrogant team full of money grabbing t**kers, causing more controversy off it than success on it
not a bad deal mr broughton, thank you

Only trouble is mate that so far nesv have not put any money in transfers have they?. .

And don't for one second think that they would have been better than sheik Mohammed. . he at least knows the club and is a fan. . .
And I have it on good authority that he will be back in the future for us. .

Nesv. .as purslow said "their scrapping the barrel"

I know it's ages 'til the summer, but to be honest i'm so excited already! These are a few targets I think and hope Kenny and Comolli have lined up. (post in rumours page please!)

GK (I'm 80% sure that Reina will stay, but you never know)

David De Gea - £18.5m, The new Casillas, can't go wrong with him!

Hugo Lloris - £16m - French #1 keeper and has stated he wants out of France

Igor Akinfeev - £13.75m - Russia's #1 with 47 caps to his name at just age 24

Manuel Neuer - £23m - supposedly the new Oliver Khan, I don't think we will be able to land this one

Defenders

Simon Kjaer - £10m - absolute bargain at 21, just have to fight of major interest

Tayer Taiwo - Free - seems fairly unlikely he will be joining, but could be the answer to our LB woes

Aly Cissokho - £19m - one of the best fullbacks in the world at the moment and at just 23

Neven Subotić - £12m - top class CB, should be relatively cheap too

Midfielders

Charlie Adam - £6m - good squad player, not alot more in my opinion

Javi Martinez - £15m - suited to the prem, very good passer of the ball

Ever Benega - £11m - surplus to requirements at Valencia, top class player

Keisuke Honda - £13.5m - should have been bought in January, great player

Arda Turan - £12m - still don't how he hasn't joined, he loves Liverpool, Kenny loves him, he's a top player and cheap

Pablo Hern ndez - £15m - Valencia cash stapped and would solve our width issue

Juan Mata - £25m - personally my prefered choic out of everyone on this list

Ashley Young - £15m - really not sure about this guy, too pricey in my opinion

Strikers (I think only backup/ young players are necessary

Iker Munian - £18m - wonderkid, he will be class

Romelu Lukaku - £23m - dubbed the new Drogba, very very expensive though

Moussa Sow - £12m - would love him to join, not sure he would like to be 3rd best to Suarez and Carroll though

Any Comments?

"Ed personally i think the summer transfer targets will be more british than foriegn talent , we saw this in january with liverpool trying to buy micah richards on deadline day , also trying to buy charlie adam on deadline day and also we tryed for ashley young , 3 great players that i would much prefer to these forigners such as banega , kjaer , sanchez , elia etc"

I don't think you can talk in general terms like that, mate. I personally want someone who appreciates the red shirt and the history of our great club, and I think someone like Turan fits that profile very well. He is a Liverpool fan, and basically issued a "come and get me" plea to the club. Do you not buy him simply because he isn't British? He's the type of player that I go out of my way to buy, especially since I think he brings the type of game lacking in the squad right now, namely width. He would be an excellent buy this summer.

did you read what i wrote? i did say that i still think we should go for the likes of arda turan because i know he loves the club and he is what we need but i just don't want a bunch of random foriengners in our side its nice to have english players and players with premier league experience , for example i think we have a few gems for the english 1st team in the future in sterling , shelvey , martin kelly , coady. i prefer these players to the likes of jovanvoic maxi poulsen etc , DONT YOU>? ?

ED,
Was there any point in even loaning David Amoo if hes not even playing, same as Eccelstone. surely we should of had a 'must start clause' or something like that.

what are your views ed?

Harry5:)YNWA {ed's note - I agree, may as well have kept them in our reserves as send them to play in someone else's ressies.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
yeah agree.
typical Eccleston finally starts a match for Charlton tonight, and guess what he scores, lol.
but yeah its so so so fustrating, theyre both good enough to start in Championship or even EPL for god sakes!

{Editor's Note: I was told that Amoo was pretty desperate to go out on loan.}

I agree that we need more british talent in the squad, but why should we buy british players over foreign players who are better in that position, just because their british? Banega is far better than adam, better vision, younger, more skillful. A.Young is lazy and inconsistant in my view, sanchez extremely unlikley) and elia are again fast more skillful and are regualr memebers of their national team. It dosnt matter what conutry they are from, if they are going to add more to the team than the other option, then they are the better buy.

Coentrao
Turan/ A. Johnson

That las question was dairectd to you ed? {ed's note - sorry what question was that?}

15 Feb 2011 20:43:37
Chatting to a Chavski fan yesterday before the game I commented that I thought that over his 'career' with them (I expect 3 poss 4 years before he bunks off elsewhere again to cash in with Quatari team (31years old with nominal sell on value)) To$$£s could cost them £1/ 2m a goal; and that's assuming that he's fit enough to score 25 goals on average over each of four seasons!

Got silence, nothing but silence, I hope the Suarez Carroll partnership develops over the next few months and we invest some sound young tallent. Sterling looks a real prospect for us,

That's good business, YNWA - Suffolk'n Red

We would love to sign Coentrao this summer. His buy out is 25million steep? He is definitely a LFC fan and would like to play here. Raul meireles should put in a good word i think.
I would also love to see Turan on the left side together, these two players will add great width and a new dimension to our team.
Adams and a holding midfielder should be fine. Defensively we should look at our youngstars wilson and Ayala.

R Sterling has to be the best player i ever seen for his age, left wing right wing striker.

we want comitted players that want to wear the liverpool shirt and understand liverpool as a club , im not saying we should buy all british talent because players like suarez are world class and i still think we should go for arda turan but part from a few exceptions we should stick to mainly english.

what do you think ed? summer moves for british talent? oxlade chamberlain , connor whickham , ashley young , charlie adam , micah richards , leighton baines

who would you prefer fellow fans

belivable = ashley young , charlie adam , micah richards , connor whickham , baines
unbelivable = banega , elia , lavezzi/ wolfswinkel , kjaer , enrique etc

Suso did play for the U18s last night. He did his job well as did the rest of the team. He just wasn't in the same league as Sterling but who was?

15 Feb 2011 19:31:28
?

Kelly Coady Wilson Mavinga

Amoo Shelvey Suso Sterling

Suarez Carrol

Possible Subs: Pacheco, Ayala,

I know Kelly will probably ultimately be a CB, but I can't think of a good young RB we've got on our books (sorry Darby, just not good enough), who could make it, and I wanted to fit Coady and Wilson in as well.

All these could be around for a while including the front 2 who are only 22/ 23
What Are Your Thoughts on this team Ed? {ed's note - I am sorry but I just don't see a future for Coady in defence, but in midfield he is top top class. I also can't see Amoo making it now, he doesn't seem to be making any improvements.}

15 Feb 2011 19:23:19
Suso was not in action for the U18s last night and didn't play for the reserves today. Do you know of any injury or do you believe he could be involved on Thursday?

Ed thoughts?

{Editor's Note: I have no thoughts on the matter.}

So you don't know if he has an injury? {ed's note - none that I have heard of, but he did play for the U18s, was taken off for Banton around the 65minute mark.}

Seriously guys, many of you keep on mention Kj r. Have any of you seen him play, or do you rate him because of roumers and FM? ?
I'm from Denmark, have seen him play since he was 18. Doing ok i Denmark, only got into the tema so he could be sold.
Did okay in Italy, but Palermo is very defensiv, so he stood in his on half.

He is very slow, not that good in the air, often gets caught out of place.

Does that sound like a defender for the prem? ?

Caceres from Sevilla is the real deal. Or just start using our own youth.
I know the defence is the hardest place to start as a young player, 1 mistake 1 goal.

Luiz would have been exelent, but he chose the money too.

So, do not wish for Kj r!

Who said this on 21st January 2011

"I signed a new contract last summer and still have more than five years left to run on it.

"Obviously, I want to be part of a team that has the chance to win the title, win major trophies and to play with the best players - but I expect that to happen here at Liverpool, and for the club to return itself to that level. I plan to stick with my contract."

Here, don't go off on one, but even if Ajax are in the Europa league, none of their players have played in it yet. Just seems very strange that Europa players can play CL football, but CL players cannot play Europa. Unless UEFA are actually saying that the Europa and the CL are the same competition, which makes no sense whatsoever.

ferd

{Editor's Note: It has been explained ad nauseum already. Ajax and Suarez have both played in the Champions League and now Ajax are in the Europa League. If Ajax were in the Champions League or out of it all together Suarez could play. There is nothing odd about it at all. Go to the Liverpool Rumours Archive and look at 13 Feb 2011 16:55:48 which makes it all clear.}

Broughton shafted Liverpool mate. .and he done it in such a way he actually got applauded for it. .

His reputation was enhanced by the adoration that has been heaped upon him by fans of multitudes on various websites. .and this is the epic swindle.

We can call Torres a traitor etc but who do you think persuaded him to go to Chelsea whilst there?

Who do you think was in contact with roman when he persuaded Torres to go?

Can't you not remember the Charlotte Jackson article a while?

Broughton you are a genius or LFC fans are just simple but whichever way well done on the deceptive tactics you employed

Summer targets should be

S. Marvueax (because he's a free and adds width).
S. Kjaer Wolfsburg
R. Drenthe Madrid should be reasonably priced.
D. Santon Inter cover for left and right.
E. Banega Valencia
S. Defour Liege
And one of Turan as he's approaching last 12 months of deal or O. Toivonen PSV

All reasonably priced and young do you agree with any of these Ed?

{Editor's Note: It is the same old list that we have to comment on everyday. Marveaux has already been agreed subject to his injury clearing up; Kjaer may not be available - he will want Champions League football; Liverpool have not shown an interest in Drenthe recently - although I agree he would be a good buy; I don't see Santon making the move; Banega would be good as would Defour; Arda requires a battle over his signature with Atletico Madrid; Toivonen is less likely now.}

Spoke to a neighbour who works at lfc and he has spoken to pepe and he has confirmed he is going to be a 20million pound keeper for someone come the summer

****************************************
Seriousley? Why would Pepe Riena be telling your neighbour that he is going to play somewhere else next year? Unless of course your neighbour is Kenny Dalglish i cannot see how your neighbour would be of any importance to tell that news to. .
If Reina leaves then so be it, he will have given us great service, left with 3 medals and will be regarded as one of the greatest Goalkeepers LFC have had. . However, if that does happen I doubt very much that anyones neighbour will be the first to know, esp when the season hasnt even finished yet!
Reina has 5 more years left on his contract, he woudlnt have signed that had he not considered the idea that we might be on the up. I also recall he stated not so long ago that he was tired of all the constant rumours and that he wasnt leaving. . Of course Mr Torres said the same things however, I think Reina is a different class of player.
I think this season has to be written off and that Dalglish et al will speak with him and get at least one more season out of him. 20m or not, i don't see him leaving. he has prolly another 10 years at the top and can see that this is the beggining of a new dawn for LFC. Im pretty sure he would want to be a part of it.
lets quit all this Reina is leaving carp before we actually force the guy to think we don't want him. .

Jose mourinho is John Henry's preferred target to be liverpools full time manager, and is willing to bankroll any signings he wishes to make in the summer. Mourinhos record in England, Italy, Portugal (possibly Spain) speaks for itself. He has had instant sucsess at every top club he has managed.Kenny was told of this before he took the job, and he is happy that Jose can take liverpool back to the top in no time.

{Editor's Note: Mourinho will not be moving to Liverpool. The reasons for this have been explained before.}

I think you'll find that for a prominent businessman like Broughton, his reputation is far more important to him than the football team he follows, especially as he recently set up Sports Investment Partners (SIP), a new private equity vehicle, which includes the backing of Penta Capital, a financial investor and is looking to bid for the Tote when it's sold off.

Ed keep lookin at the wish lists on here, however the owners havs constantly said where as there is money to strengthen they won't be spending a fortune, as they want to remain solvent, hence their reaction to chelsea spending so much on torres when announcing a huge loss for the year.

I reckon we may see 3 new faces in the summer who we would expect to be challenging for the first team spots, and maybe one or two kids, no more than that as we don't have the funds.

what you reckon.

Ed, why are hazard and sanchez not remotely interested in a move to LFC. Ino about hazard and arsenal but i am now hearing whispers that CHELSEA who mite miss out on that 4th spot have sanchez as their main target and he is interested in the mover. Is it wages, city or a we not as BIG as them mate>?

{Editor's Note: Hazard will likely go to Arsenal or Italy as is his repeated preference. Chelsea maybe have an interest in him but I don't expect him to move there. Sanchez will likely go to Juventus or Milan - but options with Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona may re-appear. Liverpoool have never declared an interest in the player.}

Thanks ed for your comments.
As for Young is concern, I think it is waste of money. He may had good impact in priceless red shirt when Torres played for us. But now everything changed. We must really go after the likes of Turan and Mata for LW. Maybe King might have another ideas.

{Editor's Note: I never comment on teams. It just leads to a mass of posts and grief from those who don't agree. I don't see why you think Liverpool can't Liverpool have a squad like every other team.}

15 Feb 2011 16:36:24
Ezequiel Lavezzi?? Seriously, why would we want him? We just got Suarez and Carroll, we have Pacheco, Ngog and Kuyt as backup I don't see the point in wasting money or time on Lavezzi. . If you remember back Lavezzi and his agent tried to engineer a move away from Napoli saying Liverpool were interested when we actually weren't. .
I'd rather invest in a left and right winger and a creative midfielder. . Kenny said he wouldn't bring in players that weren't better than what he's already got so that rules out Lavezzi. I think Charlie Adam missed out on a good opportunity to join in January, we won't be going back for him in the summer, I think Jonjo Shelvey should be given more time to prove himself anyway.
I think Damien Comolli worked really hard in January not just setting up the Suarez and Carroll deals but laying the groundwork for possible deals in the summer, he stated during the January window that he was surprised by the amount of quality players that were interested in joining Liverpool despite being in 10th place in the league and the pulling power the club still has. .
There's no point really speculating who's gonna come in cos nobody really knows, I'm just looking forward to the summer at this stage. .
Oh and hopefully if we don't finish in the Champions League places we still finish above Chelsea just to sicken Torres :D

Hi ed, would you want to see Kjaer at Anfield next season and do you think there is a good chance it will happen? I've been saying for about a year now that we should sign him so I would love to see it come to fruition! {ed's note - not sure we need to buy a centre back myself.}

On the contrary, Ed. You can easily make a case against all four of our senior centre halves. Skrtel's not pushed on and become a top class centre half. Neither Carra or Kyrgiakos are not exactly getting any younger and Kyrgiakos has not been up to the standard he was last season and Agger's fine, when available. Lose Kyrgiakos and Skrtel and replace them with a top class, first choice centre half and let Carra and Agger (when fit to) fight it out to play alongside. Wilson or Ayala (whoever's the most ready) can then become the fourth centre half with the other going out on loan, preferably to a lower Premiership team, to gain experience and be ready to stake a place in the squad for the following season.

Of course the reality may prove to be somewhat different.

15 Feb 2011 16:17:46
Marveaux, Jose Enrique, Tiote, Bojan, Kjaer.
These player we would win the Prem.

Bojan is an unproven player. He doesn't get into the Barcelona squad. Jose Enrique has played well this season for a club style and a defensive partnership he is used to. I don't think either of these players will have the impact we want/ need,

I agree Tiote is class and Kjaer would be great for a Danish duo defensive centre. Another great centre back Demechelis who has been put on loan at Malaga because he's out of favour with Luis van Gaal after he requested to be omitted from he squad. Most likely be available at the end of the season for cheaps. 30 years old but always been a great centre back for Bayern and Argentina.
- - - - - - - - - - - -
I don't think Enrique is good enough and when it comes to centre half I would like to see us go for Dejan Lovren. Unfortunately I seem to be the only person posting about Lovren. I think he is quality and young what you reckon?

Ed mate.havent been on this in a while.
Regarding width in our team and for future investment, i still don;t know how maxi is still playing as he is useless but regarding ASHLEY YOUNG. Apparently we are going to bid for him an in the summer and be succesful. I personally don't rate him at all. He has pace and that is the only reason i can see us buying him. He plays in the whole for villa which doesn't suit us, hes not an out and out winger and hes right footed and would probably play left wing. He would be guarenteed first team and i have never seen him produce in the big games.Ed, why are we not going for turans and matas with turan coming in far cheaper than young.Ed, your thoughts, do you rate young?

Hey ed could you put a stop for these tit for tat insults its spoiling a good page

Back to the footy just watched the youth match on replay and thought there was some good talent on display and looks like the future is bright for the team thought the 2 fullbacks looked classy and sterling is a star in the making although don't think they will get a game this season but with a bit of building up sure it won't be long that's why i don't think would be a good idea to start flooding the team with young european starlets that could halt their progress and dissilludion them

Shearer refused to play for United and choose Magpies coz Daglish was there.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that Kenny signed Shearer for Blackburn and that it was Kevin Keegan who took him to Newcastle.

Also forgive me if i'm wrong but i was under the impression he signed for Newcastle because that's where he is from, nothing to do with Kevin Keegan been there.

Correct - Dalglish signed Shearer whilst at Blackburn from Southampton, Keegan took him to Newcastle.

Points of concern

GK- Reina, not going anywhere, respects liverpool fc, and has made recent comments about how liverpool are on the way up.

LB- need to find a left back, like the idea of baines as he is attacting and if we play 3 at the back he will fit in nicely.

CB-carra will be 34 next year so time to start looking, Gary Cahill from bolton seems to be a fit replacement and plus he is english.
personally skrtel isn't liverpool standard and i think as we have plenty of young centre backs on should be given a chance.
Also micah richards would be a great option as he is young, fast and attacking. can play all along the defence and is english

RB- Johnson will have trouble next year if he stays as i believe kelly should be our first choice RB. If johnson goes second choice cover will be needed, maybe bring a youth up or an older player.

CM- We need a playmaker and i think jonjo shelvey is the man, king kenny has put faith in him and i think he will explode onto the scene when he recovers from his injury.
Charlie adam- would have liked him in january but i think there are better players out there for the money blackool are asking.

LM- Joe cole should be sold, injury prone and i think at his age we can't afford to keep paying his wages when he is always injured, would have been nice if he would have worked was masterclass for chelsea.
Ashley young, Arda turan, Mata - any of these would be a great addition to the squad, my personal choice would be ashley young, wonderful for aston villa and i think he would improve with more ualty players round him and also another englis player.

RM- Kaka - feel silly writing about him but he has been rumoured alot lately, not a chance in my eyes, not the right sort of player for liverpool.

ST- with the recent additions of carrol and suarez not much would be needed but with the recent rumours of benzema and bojan mybe we could see more big names.
bojan- a great prospect for the future but not getting a chance at barcelona, would love to see him at liverpool
benzema- never hit it off at madrid but is a great player, would be a good addition in my eyes but would prefer bojan.

Youths- Pacheco- needs more game play and should be given a chance more in smaller games, a great prospect and was last year named "the next xavi"

suso- a wonderful prospect, very young but a great deal of talent, if pacheco doesn't get a chance soon he may not with suso only a couple of years behind.

sterling- wonderful striker, scored 5 in livepools 9-0 win midweek.

exciting things ahead for liverpool with the amount of talented youths coming through but have to be careful who we buy in meantime as not to block their oppertunity of coming into the squad.

my team woud be-

Reina
richards cahill agger
kelly baines
gerrard shelvey
bojan
carrol suarez

subs- Mersin, carragher, kuyt, meirales, pacheco, Wilson, Sterling

this team would probably cost us about 50mill to buy.

but with sales of waste such as jovanovic, aquilani, konchesky etc we may only have to pay about 30 mill for this team. (readers and ed anyone else you can thnk of or let me know if you disagree on anything?)

I think we should sell Joe cole in the summer as he's clearly always going to be injured. Personally i was glad that we signed him becuase i think he's a good player when fit. Trouble is he never is. Played about two games for Chavski in two years and now it looks like its gonna be the same story here. Hundred grand a week for a player that never plays, i think we can spend that money better elsewhere don't you?. Perhaps towards Aguero's wage bill? :)

"The Madness of King Roy XXVII"

It seems transfer thoughts have gone into overdrive today; the number of potential targets seem to rise and welcome they are!

Following an interesting Youth FA Cup game last night (9-0 and a smile from Raheem Stirling . ) we suddenly wake up to find we could be intrested in four players. The 'concern' - if we call it that - is that we will need to clear the decks for these future signings . . and that is not as clear cut to me as maybe to KK/ DC.

Simon Kjaer: the reports from the media are glowing, although he has not played as well as some people would have you believe for Wolfsburg. I saw him against Hoffenheim and was left with the impression of a good, but not outstanding player. But we all have off days. Potentially a superb signing (age, size and skill) and probably will bring a smile to Agger's face!
This signing would almost bring an end to Sotos' time at the club and would, in my mind, suggest that we will hold onto Skrtel and use Carragher a little less often. Maybe a lot will depend on whether we look at Ryan Shawcross as well. It still means we need to get rid of two defenders, as we need to give Wilson a chance to show why we chased him for £2 million!

Eljero Elia: we are still it seems interested. He is also interested in us and despite Armin Veh's (Hamburg manager) concerns over his attitude, I think he would make a fine addition to the squad. No match for Ada Turan or Ashley Young, but one that has come up on our radar before. But you have to ask where that would put Tom Ince and Nathan Eccleston in 18 months time if we buy him? Raheem Stirling is maybe 18 months away from the full squad and on last night's performance has the skill, although he needs to physcially develop (naturally, as he's only 16) and is still learning. My concern is that we are looking at new talent and maybe, just maybe, losing sight of one or two of our younger players.

Ezequiel Lavezzi: if it's true that DC is looking at this Napoli striker (and most of us have seen little of him) then where does that leave Ngog, Pacheco, Suso, Saric, Bruna and some of the other younger hopefuls? Not all are strikers, not all are polished, but we might end up losing people that will progress after they leave us. My concern here has always been Chris Mavinga and Nathan Eccleston - we need a balance.

Sylvain Marveaux: makes a lot of sense. His strong running and eye for a pass have signalled him out this season at Rennes and we need to bolster our midfield. SG will still be punching for the next two years at his current level (we hope) and we should hold onto both Lucas and Mierles, but after them, we have Maxi who has been dissapointing and little else. Spearing does little for me and I prefer Lucas to him everytime. Kuyt is not a midfielder and neither Joe Cole (sheer waste of time and money) nor Poulsen make the grade. Shelvey does and we must (AGAIN) not lose him through bench-warming!

Jose Enrique: looked powerful and crafty playing for the Cartoon Barmy the other day. A signing that would make a lot of sense and a chance to then offload Johnson, or move him to the righthand side of midfield. I would prefer the latter, but wouldn't be afraid to lose him for a few million.

I'm boring myself saying it, but we must not lose our younger players. We have spent a fortune on the Academy and it really does like paying off in the next 12 months.

He hasnt actually come out an said he wants to leave, if an only if he does then there is cause for concern. hes a liverpool player who gives 100% for his club an untill that changes lets stop with the keeper replacement lists

am i right ed? {ed's note - not necessarily, Torres never said he wanted to go either.}

But Torres didn't give 100% on the pitch.

ST YNWA:

I remember pep saying something to that effect. personally I can't understand why he would want to go all player thinking about their future, Fernando should have been included in this, should wait and see how things go in the summer.

We all know as fans the future looks bright so the player should know more than us and should be wetting themselves with excitement. Gerrard did an interview recently where he expressed his disappointment with Torres leaving and said that he hadn't warmed to the new owners straight away as he was naive when the last owners took over due to their promises and he said that he sees NESV as the right men for the job. If it's good enough for captain Fantastic its good enough for me.

In relation to the constant bickering on her people you all need a chill pill. If people don't know to take Blair with a pinch of salt then don't comment. Irish Kev and Irish Red we can arrange a counseling session in Dublin for you guys. No biting.LOL

P.S Why bring age into arguments or employment status. this is all irrelevant. We are here to chat about Liverpool. keep it clean lads.

Just a quick note regarding Raheem Stirling, the kid is on another level. What away to impress when you have Dalglish, Clarke & Comolli in the stands. I think he should have a run out against Prague in the Anfield fixture. Give more of the youngsters a chance in this fixture i.e Suso, Pacheco, Wilson ect. The future is very bright for Liverpool, everything is in place to be on the top again.

Interesting to see purslows comments about nesv. .in the coming days expect to hear a few more revelations as regards to some of the contents about rival bids.

The fact that Martin Broughton (a Chelsea fan) received an offer from a Dubai based individual believed to be in the region of around £575 million, but refused the offer.

Purslow actually informed h&g of the offer, and stated he believed that they would increase the offer to £600 million, but as the clock was running down hicks actually blamed purslow and broughton of "an epic swindle". .

That's when purslow jumped into bed with broughton 100% because shortly after they tried to sack purslow, but broughton informed purslow they couldn't without his consent. .and well the rest is history, but the sad truth is broughton DID veto the offer from Dubai. . .I wonder why?

I think Rafa Benitez deserves a lot of credit for our revamped youth team. He took some stick for dismissing Heighway but nobody had come through to the first team since Owen and Gerrard in the late 90's. Rafa appointed Rudolfo Borrell and after only two years it looks like we have 5 or 6 players who have an excellent chance of making it.
Last night's starting 11 included 8 English players of which 6 are local lads.
Don't lets get ahead of ourselves though and expect to see any of them in the first team this season unless we have a couple of meaningless games at the end. Kenny is still picking the likes of Jovanovic ahead of Pacheco remember.
Hopefully some of the young players after lifting the youth cup will have a full pre season with the 1st team squad and 1 or 2 will make the breakthrough next season.
I certainly hope we don't bring in average 5-7 million pound players or Bosmans like Jovanovic who will block their way.

Then i started learning the history - watched matches on video from the 50's, 60's, 70's & early 80's & just fell more & more in love with everything about the club the more i learned!
I even converted my wife into an LFC fan from telling her all i know about our club - she was a Manure fan ha! There is just something amazing about LFC & the fans that goes beyond words in my opinion!
Cheers,

Agreed.
I was only just after becoming a fan literally but i went straight out into my yard that night after the match & kicked the wall from utter frustration of the outcome (broke my toe which has never fully repaired lol). It was a total injustice with all the other goings on around the club but as i said seeing Liverpool fans' reactions to the situation just made me see that LFC's fans are easily the best around & i wanted in. Sometimes we show our true colours in defeat rather than in victory. The true spirit of the club came out that night i feel through the fans! Like Istanbul at half time! Amazing! No other club's fans would do it!
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

Then i started learning the history - watched matches on video from the 50's, 60's, 70's & early 80's & just fell more & more in love with everything about the club the more i learned!
I even converted my wife into an LFC fan from telling her all i know about our club - she was a Manure fan ha ! There is just something amazing about LFC & the fans that goes beyond words in my opinion!
Cheers,
Irish Kev. {ed's note - that moment when Michael Thomas scored was the first time I ever cried over a game of football. He broke my heart that night, that game meant so much more than just football.}

{ed's note - I remember one of the players from the King's first reign telling me that they only knew who was playing when the team sheet was pinned up in the dressing room.}

Well if it worked for KK before then he should stick with it! As they say "Don't fix whats not broken" i guess.
How long are you a fan now ed?
And who would be your favourite LFC player in that time? Sorry for being nosey, just love to hear others opinions on their own LFC life journeys.
For me it was Ray Houghton / John Barnes / Robbie Fowler - can't decide 100%, but i'm greedy :)
Cheers,
Irish Kev. {ed's note - I am 36 mate, so a fan for 36 years, I never had a choice in that! My favourite was Robbie Fowler, that lad was a genius.}

Would be funny if the toffees go down !
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I don't agree personally!
Think the season is much more interesting with our big rivals in the same division as us!
If Manure went down for example i'd laugh my buttocks off for a few weeks at Manure fans who are mates of mine but once the season starts i'd really miss the banter etc.
The idea of it is great but only for a short time in my eyes.
But maybe i'm wrong?!
Irish Kev.

Is this for real ed? {ed's note - no mate, it would never be confirmed in advance of the need to be confirmed, that is not Kenny's way.}

That puts my mind at rest JG. I was worried that it was one of the above. Because they've all had it in for me for some reason.

Now that you've seen Luis and his teeth, what do you think mate. Scared or Impressed?

Blair Mayne YNWA

i think its a bit nasty mate. you'd expect that sort of carry on from toffee or manure fans, i wonder why so many have it in for you?hmm goodnight blair nothing more to say. mocking is catching, good luck mate. JG
