I see people repeatedly mentioned Sterlings stats better then Ronaldos at there age ect does anyone think he will be as good as Ronaldo in the future genuinely now . personal I don't think he will at that level although will have a great career be lucky to reach hazard quality for me

Believable4 Unbelievable3

15 Feb 2015 23:06:12
Ronaldo's drive and need to be the best was exceptional. The physio at man utd said he was the most driven footballer he'd ever met. And he worked with utd in their prime so worked with a lot of 'winners'. English footballers tend not to have this drive, so no I doubt he will be.

Agree5 Disagree4

15 Feb 2015 23:26:05
Personally - and I know I'm going to get shouted down, I don't think he's that special. He's good - but he flatters to deceive a lot of the time. I think Ibe will prove to be the better player.

Agree8 Disagree3

Not so sure on stats tbh. Mignolet is the best keeper in the prem on recent stats, not suggesting he hasn't done really well, but.

Ronaldo would drive through teams, just had/has this huge arrogant self belief and has proven himself. I remember him being the fake Ronaldo, all step overs with little end product and hardly a threat. Then I think he went to the gym throughout a summer and listen to Fergie about ending the flair with some product. Bang.

I do see some bits with Sterling, the endless step overs with little end product. But I don't see the driving through teams and taking a game by the scruff of the neck. I don't see Sterling as strong or dangerous. Also Ronaldo is 6ft+ and has a good jump and powerful header. His free kicks, his tricks other then stepovers. I could see Ibe more like Ronaldo, size shape and footwork, he has that drive at defences and huge self belief.

For me Ibe, not sterling, will be closer to Ronaldo in the future

Agree3 Disagree2

16 Feb 2015 00:02:51
when Jese first signed for RM he turned up two hours early for training to impress coaches etc only to find Ronaldo was already there training

Agree4 Disagree0

16 Feb 2015 00:49:14
Little harsh to categorise it through nationality in this respect. You'll struggle to find many people regardless of nationality that have the drive and passion that Ronaldo had/has.

Just look at his physique, from the skinny little lad at sporting/united to what he is now, that is no mean feat in itself, absolute strict diet and training regime whilst his usual training and match days. Pure dedication.

Sterling certainly has a high ceiling, maybe not to the point he'll reach Ronaldo's level, but certainly Hazards. Who in my opinion still has a long way to go to reach (my definition of) world class.

Agree0 Disagree0

He wont, he is already into the money game, whereas he should concentrate on his football. and be least bothered about money. he isn't the most sincerest lad either. he is 20 and he gets burned out, needs holidays and has tantrums.
i am sure he will move to a big club only to spoil his career in the future. Although what i am pretty certain about is he is going to have one blistering season for us (not this one though :P ) and probably that's it. anyways best of luck to the lad on his future

Agree5 Disagree1

Comparisons of that kind are always tricky. For one thing unlike Messi or Rooney who were unbelievable players from an early age, Ronaldo was a good but not sensational player until 2006-2007 when he dramatically raised the level of his game - a lot thanks to one on one coaching by Rene Meulensteen, according to some accounts.

It also depends where you play and what is your role. Sterling's statistics benefited a lot from the magic year of Luis Suarez last year and this year by the fact that for large part of the season he was our main and many time only man upfront. Don't get me wrong the statics is all his and he earned it due to his performances but I wouldn't read to much into it in terms of comparisons to other players as a prediction of the future.

Agree2 Disagree0

All those who are now praising Ibe more than Sterling will eventually turn their head once Ibe refuse to sign the contract in future.

Raheem Sterling 3 years ago was the best here for everyone including the other fans.

Had Sterling signed that contract things would have been different.

😊😊

Agree4 Disagree2

Akshith

Mate your disappointment should be towards BR labeling him as the next Messi and Ronaldo, the savior of the club.
What else you need to turn your heads.

Agree0 Disagree1

Sterling will never be as good as Ronaldo because to be as good, he will have to be way better. His size gives his strength, pure physical strength, which he can call on when necessary to give him time and space that Sterling will never be able to do. Even is Sterling becomes as able, he won't be as good

Agree0 Disagree0

As a winger at the comparable ages, I would say Raheem is better. I never liked Ronaldo rigidly stuck on the right. His constant diving and poor crosses were a problem. In terms of a free role, Raheem I don't think will come close to Ronaldo. It was about 2006 I think Ronaldo was given more room to express himself and get in between the lines, so I'll wait another 2 years for Raheem to develop. I just don't think he's got the same ability as Ronaldo though.

Raheem, talented sure, world class.No, not for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

To whoever it was who said "2 years ago we all thought Sterling was the best" I think you better check the archives. I've always maintained that Ibe would be the better player, as did a few others.

He's always had better technique, pace, power and intelligence. Sterling is just more fancy to watch and slightly older.

Agree1 Disagree6

Spot on EMS about that, i'm very sure I've seen people saying that Ibe is going to be better than Sterling few years back.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I know I certainly thought Ibe had more potential. I do think we are very lucky to have both at once and should do our best to ensure we hold onto the pair. Sterling is a very good player, he just lacks the physicality of Ibe, who is a powerhouse.}

First time I saw Ibe other than in the odd clip here and there is when they played in melbourne pre-season. I know it was just a friendly but it was 18 months ago. Both started and Ibe looked by far the better player.

Ed 001
Correctly states that football is about opinions, and if we all agreed it would be a bit boring.
What I can't understand from my straw pole of Liverpool supporters, not one is get Rogers out come the end of the season and general criticism of him.
At the start of any season there is just 4 titles that can be won and 4 places for champions league.
I'm not sure about DoF, Commoli gets a lot of stick both here and spurs but lays claim to saurez and Bale. I think a Dof and coach should be a pair brought in at the same time.
As for 1st half and second half of a season, hasn't the first half been bedding in a new squad. That won't be needed next season as the squad will just need additions.
Great football with good results, I want to win cups and titles too, I see progression but maybe I'm a half full guy and Ed 001 is half empty . No abuse just opinion

Believable6 Unbelievable2

15 Feb 2015 23:32:04
Has nothing to do with half full/half empty. You are overlooking the fact that Rodgers made promises to the owners and in return they have funded him to the tune of in excess of a quarter of a billion pounds. These are hard-headed professional businessmen. They have hearts of black granite that pump purple p**s. They aren't interested in a good effort - you make them a promise, you deliver or they dispose of you. He promised this season a major challenge for the Prem and a good run in the Champions League. They expect that and if they don't get it they will act accordingly. At their level of business emotion and sympathy is a major weakness and they will give Rodgers neither. Come May he will deliver them what they have paid for - not try, deliver. If he doesn't, they'll get someone who can.

Agree4 Disagree6

I want Rodgers to go for all the reasons I hear on this site. Lack of youth squad, poorly worded press speeches, loaning players with no plans and lying to players. His stubbornness with style.
Yet I am easily torn when I see how well we are doing at the moment, I can start to forgive the beginning as the loss of Sturridge was huge. The summer signings, if Lovren and Mario continue as well as their recent cameos then where are the bad signings? Where was the money wasted? Cause Can, Markovic, Lallana and Moreno look alright to me.

Thing is for me, I totally agree with Ed001. Rodgers will revert back to his system which doesn't work, he will continue to mouth off and he will spend over our youth. He alienates players like Lucas and Ilori, plus others.

Problem is who else, realisticly? It means another transition, no guarantee it'll be better? I thought LVG was classed as a top manager but I'd hate to have him now. Klopp? Bottom of his league, why would he smash the prem?

And our current squad. Only 2-3 players not good enough IMO. Only 1-2 need bringing in. But a new coach could want half gone, might not fancy Can, Hendeson, Lucas, Moreno etc etc.

Better the devil you know??

Agree8 Disagree5

Any manager that makes such a promise and more especially any owner that accepts such a promise, considering the history of the premier league, are quite frankly delusional.

Agree2 Disagree1

Morning eds and reds
Day 1 of freedom!!
Only had two pizzas and only watched 3 dvd's so far!!!

Liverpool used to give any incoming manager 5 years to get things right.
Evans, Houllier, Benitez all given 5 years. Hodgson would have had the same time if he wasn, t shabbite.
Daglish was always a short term solution.
I would like to go back to the days when we give any incumbent manager 5 years to get it right.
We live in a "must have now" society but Footballing dynasties are built over time unless you have obscene wealth.
We are building towards success at our club and I think we are getting closer rather than getting further away.
So give the manager time is what I say.

Great response Omega Man. I am in total agreement with you. It seem's every season for us is about transition. A complete overhaul is not what is needed. Fine tuning will do

Agree2 Disagree0

The problem is the summer market with Rogers to sign a top quality players 3 and returning of loan signings would be great
Alienated is harsh any player who was alienated has returned better mignolet Henderson all improved alienated or clever ???

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - those two were not alienated, Henderson was asked to go out on loan and rejected the move, Mignolet was dropped after a lot of errors.

Alienated are players like Suso, promised game time then not given it, sent out on loan then return to find more promises broken. That is alienating.}

It's funny because I would have thought that Suso would have been right up Brendan's street in terms of a footballer.

Eds quick question for you, sorry if it’s been asked before. A few years ago we seemed to have settled on a policy of looking for the best 14 or 15 year olds English players at smaller clubs and amongst others that led us to sign Sterling, Ibe, Wisdom, Sinclair and Ojo within the space of three years. To me that is a pretty damn good return compared to the days of signing Brouwer, simon and vita flora
It feels like we are going away from that now, is that the case and if so is it down to Mcparland leaving?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is more down to the prices being asked for them. Now we are being quoted millions for those players, rather than hundreds of thousands. Though I am sure a part of it is down to him leaving. He won't have left his contacts behind for us to use.}

We have recently signed herbie Kane and yan dahanda who are both highly thought of at to that all the Spanish kids we've been buying like there's a shortage of them and the cast offs of Utd (Nicholas & hart) spring to mind ejaria from arsenal and a few others I've missed no doubt somewhere amongst this we must have a few of our own from age 9ish

Agree0 Disagree0

Yan Dhanda was signed when Mcparland was still at the club in 2013. I'm sure I read Herbie Kane joined us around the same time in 2013 a few months before Mcparland was asked to leave. I don't think either are recent signed only recently promoted to the u18's.

Bobbythered could be right I haven't seen our youth recruitment go down that road as frequently. I thought Dele Alli might have been the next one last summer before he went to Spurs.

Agree1 Disagree0

Well if a year and 3 or 4 months isn't reacently signed when talking about kiddies I don't know what is. Maybe ask again in 3 or 4 years time to see if the policy has changed or if we just can't buy everybody

Eds, A question to you.

Where you think Milner would end up? And what's going on at City. He has proved me enough of his ability and quality.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not sure, he looks certain to stay in the Prem, but I don't know where he will go. It will probably be a while before that becomes clear.}

15 Feb 2015 20:03:08
Thanks Ed01. Do you think Liverpool would try their luck?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is entirely possible that he will be approached, yes. Especially with Lucas likely to leave.}

Be strange as milner is completely different player if you ask me

Agree0 Disagree0

Milner was a cm before being moved to the wings in city no?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - other way round mate, he started off playing wide, though he always wanted to play central. I think, if I remember rightly, that he did play a lot of youth football in the centre, but he just got given his shot at Leeds on the wing as that was what they needed. I might be wrong though, it was a long time ago now.}

Doesn't have the discipline to be like Lucas and if anything he's too similar to Henderson and at 29, I think he's the wrong age. I do seem to remember another England international midfielder coming in on a free from an Oil team who wanted to play centrally working out quite badly in the recent past, so I'd rather dodge this one as it has bullet written all over it.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Feb 2015 18:15:36
The one time Milner has been given a consistent run in the middle of the park was for Aston villa, with that form prompting city to pay the price they did for him. A good player who has improved in his time, on a free I would take him in a heartbeat as a box to box midfielder. His form got Aston villa as a cm was excellent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Always wondered what happened to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha maybe I don't trust the FA and the other men behind the draw on monday, but we won't be getting any handy tie, at home,
they ha, made sure we got a tough one at Palace, and I am sure they will give us an even tougher one tommorow,
I am going to say Bradford away, for us, and easier games for the two faves, who they want in the cup final .

Had to "volunteer" to be ref this morning for my sons U10 "friendly" game.

The last time I go so abused I was sitting in front of my ex-wife's lawyer!

Seriously what gives "us" supporters the right to treat refs so disrespectfully?

Believable10 Unbelievable0

Parents are awful at games. I've coached youth sides here in the US as well as refed several games. It was so bad I decided never to do either ever again, which is a bit sad. Guess some things are the same everywhere.

Agree5 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 16:32:34
I totally can relate to you. I had to speak to parents ATLEAST 10 times last season because of the crap being spewed out their mouths against the refs.

Agree3 Disagree0

When I ref my u10's side and get a bit of abuse, I stop the game for a moment and offer the whistle out loud to who ever is giving the abuse. That seems to shut them up and any potential hecklers

Agree2 Disagree0

There is a great book about it called You'll win nothing with kids, Fathers sons and football by Jim White, probably the best book I have ever read about football.

Agree1 Disagree0

RDL is on the money. Here in the U.S, the parents are THE worst.

Ha Fano. Book looks like a good read. I will buy it. If nothing else than to look to see which character resonates with me the most!

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Feb 2015 08:10:30
What gives parents the right at that level? Nothing, unless you're so bad you're actually putting the kids in danger (at which point it's better to withdraw the kids). At the professional level? Utter incompetence from a well paid professional who will never suffer for their incompetence ruining a very expensive day

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 16:10:10
I haven't wrote a post in a while, With the current situation with Sterling, with the media turning it into a circus, and the "Big Guns" preparing to give Sterling the pay cheque he deserves. Majority of young players that take that leap into a world beater team, normally fail to establish themselves.

What previous players did you think would be world beaters then joined a team without being a finished product and they turned out to be nothing more?

Abit of banter for this Sunday evening.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Can't see what all the fuss is about he can't finish, can't cross the ball, gets de possessed too easily. Only ever scores tap ins. Oh and we clearly haven't missed him last 2 games. Ibe is twice the player already. Just my opinion. I'd take the money on him and let him rot somewhere else, clearly thinks he is better than he is.

Agree4 Disagree15

15 Feb 2015 20:12:19
@Supermario. He's 20. At 20, Cristiano Ronaldo, now among the 2 or 3 best in the world, was considered by many, including me, to be an over-elabourate, cheating show pony, who would never be world class because he couldn't deliver against top teams. Sterling scored more goals in the PL last season at 18/19 years old than Ronaldo did the season he turned 20.

Sterling has all the raw attributes to develop into a top player, as long as he's managed and coached properly (and preferably not played as a lone striker any more). And if we want to "leave him rot" because he's asking for stupid money for a 20 year old, then we might as well stop watching top level football altogether, because this is the unfortunate reality of it now. And us playing hard ball with Sterling on his contract, possibly to the point of losing him, isn't going to change that.

Sure we have Ibe waiting in the wings. But how do we know he won't get drawn into the media hype and be the one asking for a King's Ransom in a couple of years time, whilst all the time people are sniping at him and saying he's not worth it because he's not the finished article at 21?

And how you can say Ibe is better when he's played about 1/30th as many Premier League games as Sterling, and hasn't had the responsibility of being our team's main attacking threat for half a season, is mind-boggling anyway. Yeah he looked good at Derby, but Sterling probably would've been amazing in the Championship too. Let's say in a year's time if Ibe's been regular in the team hits some bad form because Sturridge is injured and Sterling is being managed correctly somewhere else (sorry, rotting) as you desire, so he's our only pacey outlet and he hits some bad form. And then he's out when Sturridge comes back and naturally makes the team look better in attack? Will he be all hype and no substance too?

Agree7 Disagree1

15 Feb 2015 20:54:20
Most his goals are put on a plate for him! And we scored bucket loads last year. All this vomparing to what other players did at certain points in there career is nonsense, it's doesn't work like that! I bet he stays at the same level.

Agree0 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - I must have dreamt that one he scored against Chelsea then. You know where he ran from deep and slotted it in the back of the net.}

Disagree w/ Supermario on this one. You cannot simpy say Sterling is this or that just by reading the media (who like to stir things up to begin with). He is a very good player who IMO, is still learning the game hence, still a bit rough around the edges just like Ibe is still raw yet has a high ceiling. The contract issue is not yet a distraction BUT could be if it lingers on anymore than it should be. Let the process play out and all will be fine. I will say that Sterling has to understand that if money is the issue, he is only worth what LFC is willing to pay him. Also if he wants be here (which he is) then he should tell the agent to get it done because the agent works for him and not the other way around.

Agree1 Disagree0

To bring this a little back on track.

I thought Ravel Morrison would make it once he went to West Ham got games and away from his mates. I was very wrong.

Pacheco came to Liverpool with a lot of fanfare, but never got close to those heights, same with Babel.

Franco Di Santo for chelsea

Agree5 Disagree1

Fran Merida thought he was too good for Arsenal.
Pato was supposed to be the next big thing at Milan.
Jack Rodwell moved to City much too soon.
A certain Mohamed Salah hasn't had the best time of it since his move to Chelsea.
Jovetic and Lamela had the world at their feet before their big moves.
Wright-Phillips was immense at one point.
One might even argue Mangala wasnt ready for the EPL.

And that's just off the top of my head, the list is endless

16 Feb 2015 08:12:46
Sorry but anyone who can't see how good Sterling is is either an idiot, or just one of those contrarian people who just wants to be on the other side of the coin to everyone else because if makes them feel smart and self important because they can see something no-one else can

Let's get everything straight so that we can all move on
In each of the three seasons Brendan Rogers has been in charge The first half has been with the exception of one or two matches poor starts.
In the second of each season we have played some brilliant football but this deludes owners and certain fans that next season will be the year.
But there are fans out there that know that whilst it is a roller coaster ride, in the end certain decisions still need to improved upon.
For example Rodgers should not have not opened his mouth to the press about sterling (This being one example).
Also the ed's are NOt stating that BR should be sacked because they believe he has got some good qualities, it is that he should be more open minded and realise that in the modern world of football one man is no longer enough.
Everyone knows that mourinho is always on the TVs or in the press this is because he has the setup correct behind the scenes
Ok I will except that he likes the adulation as well.
But honestly hand on heart who can stand up now and say that we will have a better first half of season next season than the last three.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

Agree. how many times does this have to happen before someone makes a change?! Personally I believe that the only reason we are not challenging this season or at least have top 4 secured is BR. I really like the guy as a coach and I wish he could be our coach for many years, but its obvious he can't do it on his own

Agree2 Disagree3

15 Feb 2015 16:45:05
We were so poor in the first half of the 2013/2014 season that we were top of the league on Christmas Day

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - performances were not good early on in the season though. Similar to Man Utd this season, playing poorly but picking up results.}

Why do people insist on saying we had a poor start to last season?

We had lost only three games by Christmas including a tough one at the emirates.

In this time we also thrashed Norwich 5-1, West Ham 4-1, Fulham 4-0, and completely rolled over spurs away, admittedly these weren't all top sides but its still hardly the behavior of a team you would say is playing poorly and scraping results.

Agree8 Disagree0

BR is guilty of so many things. One being constant bashing of Mario every time he opens his mouth.

Agree1 Disagree5

I really can't get my head around it when people say we were poor or played poorly first half of last season. We played some of the best football that we've played in the last 15 years

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but we didn't in the first half, that was the second half when we were brilliant. The first half was very mixed.}

Nobody plays amazing every game of the season winning and packing bad for certain parts of the season is a good thing

Agree1 Disagree0

Agree with the OP. We cannot wait for BR to always sleepwalk though the first half of every season. dithering and wasing our time as a club by being stubborn and playing that dreadful tiki taka system that gets us nowhere every time we employ it. We will NEVER win the PL (which the owners crave to get their ROI) nor the CL. That is a fact. BR needs to focus on coaching (he is damn good at it) and cut out the other useless BE and blunders as well as get help w/ transfers (DOF) and fix the defence (defensive coach or whatever). If he can do that s well as use our academy, I will gladly plead w/ the owners to keep him because he has proven that he can get the best out of players under him. Afterall, he built the Suarez that was the best srtiker in the PL and one of the most feared in the world for two yrs, made Studge the beast he is today and gave Couts and Raheem the careers they have now.

Agree1 Disagree0

How can you finish level on goal difference with the Champions and have a bad first half of the season?

Impossible.

The best indicator of whether Brendan Rodgers is doing a good job is not this website(sorry Eds) but the travelling away support.
That's a fact.
And to a man they all back our manager.
Honestly, everyone is entitled to their opinion but I'll keep repeating it.
If we are stupid enough to sack this manager then we will be making a massive mistake.

Lets look at his record for every game he has been manager for LFC: 157 games: 86 WINS 33 DRAWS 38 LOSSES.
Scored 302 goals Conceded 180 goals.
That is a win ratio of 54.49%.
Yes let's sack that manager and get a better one!!!!
So we win over half the time we play with this manager in charge.
When you see how young he is as well you can only think this ratio is going to go up and not down if he learns as he goes along.
Alex Ferguson finished his career at United with a 58% win ratio.
He was nowhere near that level in his first 3 seasons as manager yet Brendan Rodgers is.
But yes let's sack him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - how are the away support the best indicator? Ridiculous thing to say, they were still behind Dalglish too, but he was not doing a good job the second time round (much as I hate to say that!).}

We will have to disagree again Ed001.
I have worked out your identity now.
Are you my wife??
We never agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we will have to as the fans are the last people to adjudicate on this matter. Especially the away fans, who are very unlikely to turn, they supported Ged right until the end, as that is what they do. It just shows how entirely and utterly useless Hodgson was in the role that he managed to turn against him the staunchest fans.

As for your wife, no, she just wishes she was as young and beautiful as me ;o)..... wait she doesn't read this site does she? In which case I meant I just wish I was as young and beautiful as her!}

Ha ha ha ed001. Brilliant.
I think they are a good barometer Ed for the very reason you mentioned.
Loyalty.
They are not fly by night fans. they pay their hard earned wages to travel all over supporting the team.
They do not put up with dross for too long either.
I do agree that they are more loyal than most and that's what I mean by using them as an indicator of whether or not Rodgers has their backing. They are not fickle like me. ( I wanted him gone earlier in the year)
The way they constantly sang the managers name at the weekend says everything for me.
They were singing it when we were behind as well because they knew like I knew that we were going to score eventually.
I've not met one yet who wants the manager out.
I was not dissing this website by the way. This website is my mistress!!
And the cougar website above!!
Just to add. She is 39 yrs young and very beautiful (just in case she does read the site)!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they sing Dalglish's name regularly too, I don't see that as an indicator at all. They never wanted him out. It is not a good barometer at all, they are blind loyalty, great in that respect, but not in terms of judging most fans, nor a good way of telling whether a manager should stay or go.}

16 Feb 2015 15:50:05
Actually we were doing well at the beginning of last season, was the awful scheduling of the City anf Chelsea games and some pretty shocking refereeing in those games that slightly threw us. Then we went on that run.

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on Ed they sing Daglish's name for obvious reasons. .
Fact is if they did not support the manager then they would not be singing his name constantly during a match would they?

I once had a dream that Jovetic was playing up front for Liverpool. I had never watched him play at that time and in my dream he was celebrating his goal and the crowd were singing his name, that was it. Then shortly after he moved to City, so it clearly wasn't a premonition. Anyway, after reading his latest comments on his future it appears that maybe he will be available in the summer, and in my opinion he would really fit into our system.

Red Rum

I suspect Villa v Leicester will not be their typical super Sunday game. Liverpool Suprs is a more typical one and usually well worth watching.

Afternoon Ed!

If he is rated so highly as a coach, why is the general consensus, especially before this recent run, to get rid of him, if not now then at the end of the season?

Yes I am one of the few that have always backed him, but I have always agreed that he has many flaws that definitely need addressing.

However, if we have someone who, in his position is young and is clearly a very good coach, let's as a club help him learn and improve as he has done with some of our players.

I can't believe for one moment anyone thought he was the finished article when we signed him and bar the 2/3 World Class ones, how many managers could we realistically get that would be any better?

It was nice to hear his name sang loudly at the game yesterday.

Keep the Faith guys!

In Brendan We Trust.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - because he is a woeful manager and he is not appointed to coach the team, but to manage it.}

15 Feb 2015 14:31:14
But can't we help improve on that side?

He is young enough to learn from his mistakes surely?

Like I said I don't deny he has many flaws and they do annoy me as well.

Are there many managers out there that are quality at both aspects of managing/coaching that would come to us?

Or, maybe keep Brendan, help him improve as a manager to add to his quality coaching and stick by him like Utd did after a rocky start with Fergie and Arsenal did with a not very well known Wenger.

Keep the faith guys!

Cheers for the response ED!

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - or appoint a DoF over him and allow him to just be a coach?}

15 Feb 2015 14:41:03
Yeah, that could be a possibility Ed.

As long as it isn't Comolli.

In terms of bringing in a new manager, for me it would be the case of a new start again. Rightly so, he would probably want time, want his staff and want players to fit his style.

I'm happy with the majority of our style of play and I think the possession game, if used wisely can be brilliant, as it was in the last 10 minutes against Palace yesterday instead of trying it from the start of games.

If he doesn't go, I hope the fans show the level of support they did yesterday for him. I hope he learns from his mistakes and brings back the glory days.

Cheers again for the response Ed.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't want a new manager, I think the pressure is too big for one man to bear. You need one man out of the limelight directing the long term strategy, so his head is not in the noose if it doesn't pay off straight away. That is what a DoF should be doing. I agree though, please not Comolli!}

15 Feb 2015 14:54:08
Is that unless we signed a world class manager who had experience of being able to handle a big club I assume? (Although I agree this won't happen)

So do you have anyone in mind should that happen?

Would you keep Rodgers and get a DOF?

Or get both a new head coach and DOF?

Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - what managers are there? It is only really in the UK that clubs are not run as a DoF and head coach combo. The likes of Bielsa, Ancelotti, Mourinho, Guardiola, they are all head coaches.

If Rodgers would agree to work under a DoF, then that would be my choice. If he won't, which is the issue as he refused initially, then I would prefer us to look to make that change.}

15 Feb 2015 15:21:30
Fair point Ed.

Say if that was the case and he was moved on, would you rather a tried and tested partnership?

Or would you be happy for a DOF and a Head Coach, that although both very good at their jobs, have not worked together before, which could obviously cause potential problems?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - in that case I would let the DoF pick the head coach, that way there is a very good chance they will be able to work together.}

15 Feb 2015 15:44:04
I know you don't normally like to name people, but is there any you would prefer that we may be able to get?

Cheers!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would like us to try again for Cruyff. He might take a lot of persuading, but it would be worth it.}

15 Feb 2015 16:47:26
Who would you expect would be brought in as the head coach if we got him?

De Boer prehaps?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - probably De Boer, he is well versed in Cruyff's ways.}

15 Feb 2015 17:07:36
Cheers for the responses Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome mate.}

I don't know if Cruyff could be convinced or not, but perhaps having Van Gaal over at United could help persuade him.

Agreed that Rodgers with a DoF could work very well if Rodgers would just be open to it. No idea why he is so dead set against it, honestly, given that in either of his dream jobs in Spain he most certainly would have to deal with one.

Rodgers is a good coach, not so much a good manager although in fairness given how hands on he is on the training pitch I don't think it's physically possible for him to do both sorts of jobs.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed1 surely mourinho is a msnager, he calls all the shots at Chelsea !?
Thsnks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no he doesn't. He suggests players, but he doesn't make the decision on who is bought, they could reject his suggestions.}

Who is the dof of Chelsea or running the show if Mr.M isn't

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they have a technical director.}

Emenalo is the Technical Director at Chelsea. Mourinho obviously has input, but he's not solely responsible either.

16 Feb 2015 10:34:21
Chelsea have a DOF (according to Ed002) and a damn good one too based on the deals they strike and the way the club is now being run. A clear sign that the owners like BR is that they did not fire him when even he himself, thught he would be and IMO, wanted to see how all will play out hence, the internal review. He has been offerred the help but due to arrogance, stubborness and foolish pride, he has refused repeatedly (as the Eds have said) so if he refuses the help and can`t bring the type of success the owners want and have invested large sums in, why should they keep him? BR is very hands on as you say and as a result, cannot focus on the background stuff fully. He should be paired w/ a DOF he can work with that way, they are both joined at the hip.

15 Feb 2015 12:55:36
Ed001, where would you rank Rodgers in the premier league as a coach only (Not a manager)?

Thanks in advance

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - as a coach he is top 3. He is clearly an excellent coach, the players show signs of technical improvement over the period of time they are with the club.}

As a coach, he is awesome and if he would just focus on that and get help in other areas as well as play the youth players (who will excell under his astute coaching), I will defo keep him.

15 Feb 2015 12:10:15
Ed 1 how's life chief? Great insight as always. Just a quick question.I get the feeling you are not Rodgers biggest fan and I respect your opinion, but I like the style of football we are playing now and second half of last year. its so much better than Rafa let's worry about the opposition even if its the dog and duck benitez. Anyway my point is can he redeem himself or what would you and people in the club like to see him do. because I for one would love to see him be a success at the club.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - I like the current style of play, I enjoyed the style of play we employed at the end of last season too, what I don't enjoy is his preferred style of play. I rate him as a coach, but he is out of his depth as a manager.

Of course he can redeem himself, I want him to prove me wrong by winning trophies. If he does that then it would be crazy to sack him. However, he needs to learn to close his trap and keep his foot out of it. He also needs to accept help with those things that he struggles with, such as defending. On the whole though, challenging each season, rather than being out of touch by Christmas, and being in the running in Europe and the cups is all I ask for. Most of all, he has to stop reverting to pass, pass, pass at the beginning of the season. If he does make that mistake again then it should be immediate dismissal, as you can't have a young learner in a role when he refuses to learn.}

He has to get us top-4. If He succeeds then he has done a remarkable job considering how poor we were earlier.
BR has more chance of winning a trophy next year than a new manager to the club.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - what happens if the new manager were Ancelotti or Mourinho (not that either of them will be coming) would Rodgers have more chance than either of those? If not, what is saying that the next guy chosen couldn't be the next man to be rated amongst the great managers?}

15 Feb 2015 12:44:40
Ed01. I agree with your points, But Like the Eds previously stated, Owners need assurances over Trophies.
BR's biggest mistake was this promise ( 3 Year time scale ).
Owners would also be aware the new man to come in would come with a shopping list.
I still think He would keep his job if We get inside top-4 by hook or crook.
There are a lot of managers outside better than BR, But they all would need time to succeed.
LVG is the biggest living example.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would dispute LVG being any better, he has always worked to someone else's plan when he was successful. It was a terrible decision to appoint him by United and they are already regretting it within the club.}

15 Feb 2015 12:58:24
Ed01, That's the point. LVG was the best possible and big name they could have bought.
Jose at Chelsea
Carlo at Real
Pep at Bayern

We must be very careful with regards to manager.

Agree1 Disagree1

I liked when the media said he presented a 'dossier' when it was clearly just 5 pages with pictures stapled together. :D

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they do like to stir things up to make a mountain out of a molehill. Mind it was embarrassing that he felt the need to reply to Sam Allardyce! Most people would have just laughed at the idiot.}

Which shows how insecure he is and I for one, did not want him here when he was being touted to replace KK and FSG was right to appoint BR over him. Ed01 is right. If BR can focus on coaching, play the system our players love playing in, get help where he is clearly wanting in, swallow his pride and do away with "his" system and cut out the other BS, he will b brilliant here and like Ed said, if we`re challenging (which we are doing now) and not wasting half a season dithering, I would not want another manager.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 14:29:11
Big Sam is funny. He sickened Mourinho last season, and he always tries to annoy Rodgers and Pellegrini with comments .

Agree2 Disagree0

Edd001, Rodgers may get us into the top 4 but we will have skrtl in the heart of defence next season, and goalkeeper purchased that probably still won't be good enough and the same problems with the wrong players and youngsters not getting chances. It's just a recurring circle every season. He has to make way imo but probably won't because he will have a few decent results behind him by the end of the season but he isn't the man for me.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - what if a DoF was above him that got rid of Skrtel and brought in a keeper who was good enough, would you then be happy with Rodgers staying?}

Would the DOF or the coach have the say in Substitutions during a match.
I must agree Rodger's substitutions are terrible.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - no.}

I know Mignolet was terrible at the start of the season but of recent he has been brilliant each and every game, as for me has Skrtel in the new formation. De Gea was poor for United but turned it around Mignolet if he continues this way shouldn't be replaced just be given competition

Agree2 Disagree0

Edd001, if he was coaching the team and that is all I would be happy for him to be in charge but do you really expect him to be here if we get a doF? Definitely not he is far too stubborn and egoegotistical. He is like Rafa in that it can never see Rodgers accepting to work under a DOF that gets rid of skrtl and recruits the players. His media chat is atrocious and he has regressed in that area which creates it's own.problems.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sadly it does seem he would refuse to accept a DoF with us.}

Then we might as well have another manager in place by then. I will be sad to see him go because he has had us playing fluid footie (when he is not forcing "his" system down everyone`s throat). But if he refuses the recommendations then, he must go.

Dont you just love divided opinions in football??
Clearly a lot of people have an opinion on BR future at lfc come the end of the season. I can see both sides of the coin tbh we were fantastic last season & if it true that he promised the owners a title challenge & get very far in the champs league then let's be honest he has failed misserably?? Some of his signings have been questionable & his ability to put his foot in his mouth with press conferences come around is something that annoys the life out of me. let's try put some of this is context tho? He did loose the most prolific strike force I've seen for a long time & the basis of his blue print last year. I think anybody who suggests that we would not be closer to top 4 or even top 2 if we had studge fit all season must be mad because this lad is a goalscorer & one of the best in the prem tbh. He deserves credit for turning a corner too, we looked woeful in the beginning of the season & it looked like a one season wonder, & hey who knows it might still prove to be we might crumble & revert back to we were at the beginning of the season but we may not. it looks more likely we going to keep up this great run & challenge the top 4 till the end. I get the feeling ed001 is leaning more towards a different head coach cone next season(i appologise if that not the case) i think i read a comment somewhere that a top coach would have us top 4 or even top 2 now if we had one. I fully understand people wanting BR out he has failed to deliver his promises this season but sometimes it better the devil you know, i keep hearing how klopp is best around & he who we should go for?? i'm not sure if many people have seen were Dortmund are in the bundesliga but if the commenf regarding a top manager would have us top 2 if he world class then surely this makes klopp a no-goer??
As i said football all about opinions & its great everyone has different ones too otherwise these forums sites would be no-where near as fun as they are. Me personaly will wait till end of the season & see what we end up with before i say we need a different manager

Well let's be frank for the 100th time. Suarez is a player who cannot be replaced so easily and on top of that we lost Sturridge at the beginning. We got a lot of new faces in and needed time to slot in. For that, Rodgers, despite his huge mistakes at the beginning of the season had big excuses and needed to time to show what this team can do. I disagree with people saying we have a title challenging team. Without Suarez and Sturridge we are at best a 4th place challenging team.
So let's see his transfers this year. All of whom showed brilliance in the second half of the season apart from Lambert, Lovren and Manquillo. I will disagree again about Balotelli because if used correctly he is a top team player. Can, Moreno, Can, Markovic are all starting to show their worth, we got Ibe back and all is showing towards a bright future. It didn't look that way when we lost Suarez despite what everyone was saying.
For me Rodgers turned that pretty quickly(loss of Suarez) and we are entering a new exciting phase. All we need is patience. I have no doubt in my mind that Rodgers is the man to lead us in the next years.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - 4th placed challenger? Surely you mean we should be 3rd?}

15 Feb 2015 12:36:27
Balotelli as a player is fantastic and is one better than all the other strikers we have got excluding Sturridge and that includes summer arrival Origi and Ings.
Balotelli is physical and robust. If he gets some decent crosses inside the 6 yard box he would shrugs of the defenders with ease.
Unfortunate We don't play this way

Agree3 Disagree1

15 Feb 2015 14:01:20
No Ed with the current team par Sturridge Arsenal and United have better units than us. So for me Rodgers does an excellent job with what he has.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - seriously? United have a couple of good players and a bunch of not good enoughs, injury prone or past it players. Some are all 3. They are simply not as strong as us right now and in a desperate rebuild process. Arsenal maybe, but once you get past their first 11, actually once you get past the attacking players, they are weak. They have no strength in depth, especially in defence and no clinical striker. Sorry but overall we have a stronger squad, especially after the summer spending.}

BR is a brilliant coach, that is a proven fact. It is his other BS and his inablility to change and learn from his numerous mistakes, force a failed system and certain players down our throats, his abhorent handling of the media and managerial methods (in the TW and certain players) that could be his undoing. If he accepts help in his weak areas and focus on coaching alone (cos we have excelled under his tutelage and players improve massively under him), I will be happy to keep him. If he doesn`t, then he could be gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 14:13:46
So Mata, Di Maria, Van Persie, Falcao, Rooney, De Gea all world class players. Who do you have? Strurridge, Sterling and probably Coutinho both of whom are still kids? I said units not team!
It is not their fault if Van Gaal is a bad manager. They have great units and with Red Nose they would have been challengers easily.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Mata? Hardly world class, that is why he was punted from Chelsea and can't get a game for United now. Di Maria is not world class, he is a hard working headless chicken with great technical ability but no football brain. Van Persie is past it as well as injury prone. Falcao is recovering from a horrible injury. Rooney is one of the worst midfielders I have ever seen and far from a world class forward. De Gea is top class. So tell me again why you are talking so much crap? United are a weak side left in a complete mess by Fergie.}

Agree with Ed01 on this.
An overrated winger,
A flop loan
A poor full back
A massive rip off
That's all UTD have now.

Agree3 Disagree0

Its all about opinions i guess! Just because one person beleives something doesn't make it so.

Agree1 Disagree0

United are aweful. Why? The manager feels the need to defend his hapless tactics and many of their fans and ex players (Scholes, in particular) CANNOT bear to watch them. They won games by being clinical, DDG standing on his head and the other team being unlucky. They get outplayed almost everytime even against us, many thought we were the better team but did not finish our chances. They might be ahead of us which is mostly due to our dithering and unforced blunders earlier in the season (even against them, we made them look good by playing to our weaknesses) than anything else, IMO. The only player I would want from their starting 11 is DDG. That`s it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Utd are shocking, they have been very lucky to gain as many points as they have. Whilst top 4 is still a stretch I would put money on us finishing above them( more worried by arsenal, spurs and Southampton) they are by far the worst team in the top 8.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 10:43:48
Rogers out
Yes it took time to get his shape and players to settle, and mistakes were made Stevie shouldn't have been DM, legs gone, but now he has a young team that from now on needs 1 good player per year rather than trying to buy 2-3 worldies.
We can't compete with City and Chelsea financially, and but for a striker would have beaten chelsea in the cup.
So you lot want a new manager who will have his style and his back room team who will need to settle. That's other clubs not ours.
Enjoy the football let the manager learn he's still a pup and mistakes will be made

Believable9 Unbelievable0

I've said it all along Pete.

He's made mistakes yet he's still learning, and hopefully he will continue at our club.

Not many on here will agree with us lad as they want blood.

There's been venomous hatred directed at our manager to the point of personal insults.

Disgusting armchair supporters.

Anyway, them away fans don't stop singing his name and in my opinion, there opinion means so much more than a Sky Sports Fan.

Agree7 Disagree6

Easy to highlight a problem, but it might be difficult to find a solution to it.

Fair assessment, but who could come in and promise us the title? Another question is, would they be interested in joining us?

If you can´t answer these questions, then there´s no point in stating "Rodgers out".

Agree2 Disagree0

I like Rodgers and he deserves a lot of credit for turning our season around.

Agree4 Disagree0

Points that need addressing under his tenure.

-We are courting FFP sanctions due to his high spending on player he wanted but never played, or couldn't cut the mustard once they arrived in his opinion.
Examples, Aspas, Ilori, alberto, Lovren, Balotelli, assaidi, Borini.

Sold some good youth brought in some poor replacements.
Examples.Sold Kelly brought in Mnaquillo on loan, loaned out wisdom, now playing markovic wing back.

Has a tendency to piss a lot of players off. Sakho, Ilori, Suso, Reina, Sahin

I don't really watch his interviews, but almost every week he seems to open his mouth too quickly.

He promised a title challenge after we spent £100 mil+ this summer, we're in 7th position. I expected us to try and solidify 4th with a strong showing personally. Not clawing back points with 13 games to go.

The insistence of playing Gerrard DM without Suarez and Sturridge for his passes. When lucas and can were there. Playing sterling as a false 9 when you have 3 strikers on the bench.

Agree6 Disagree2

He screwed up big time in the first half of the season, being stubborn in his ways as well spending £50m on Lambert Lovren and Lallana etc. He's done well to improve things recently - but make no mistake about it - no champions league footie next season would class this season as a failure. We've improved in the 2nd half of seasons under him, but the league is 38 games, not 19. I'd be happy with him next season as long as he has no say in player recruitment and he stops coming out with his nonsense in press conferences.

Agree3 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 11:37:43
Kelly good kid, how many injuries ?
Transfers. No one gets then right
Mark, Moreno Cam Sakho goods buys and getting better, Loren will get there.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - last warning, if I have to keep removing imbecilic petty insults in your comments aimed at everyone who has a different opinion from you, I will ban you. Same for you too Davey - armchair supporters? That just makes you sound a prick! Plenty of people working for the club would happily see the back of Rodgers, so you might want to wind your necks in the pair of you, as you are not some kind of gurus, you are just fans with a different opinion.}

Bobatron, surely if the board were concerned about spending and FFP, they would just reduce Brendan's budget. I do agree that he needs coaching on his media relations.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 12:14:28
The owners will decide whether Rodgers stays or goes - not the fans. The owners will have expectations - largely based on what Rodgers has promised and how much he has spent. He either achieves those expectations and delivers or they will discard him like yesterday's rubbish and rightly so. The most ironic thing is that Rodgers is in the position he is because of his own stubborness about refusing to work under a DoF. If he's accepted a DoF being over him, the faults with the squad would be getting thrown at the DoF instead because there is no doubting that he is an efficient coach.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 12:22:36
Well Ed, there are people who work for a government doesn't mean they make good assessments for the country just because they work their socks off for the government.
It seems to me that opinions in this matter is about not accepting you were wrong all along. What you were saying about Rodgers? Stubborn? Well before people calling other people names they should take a good look of themselves. We have no better players than Chelsea or City or United or Arsenal altogether yet we have better consistency right now. Isn't this because of Rodgers? Just like last year we overachieved because of Rodgers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - what is your point in the first instance? You are just making my point for me! What is it with people trying to dispute a point because they haven't the intelligence to follow what you say?}

15 Feb 2015 12:41:01
I have no problem in moving out Rodgers, But am skeptical on the options outside.
No new comer would come and deliver us a trophy straight away.
Top 4 would be the deciding call in this matter
My opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and you think Rodgers will bring trophies? Just a question.}

15 Feb 2015 12:51:47
Ed01, TBH mate apart from Chelsea and possibly City None would win the title for the next 3-4 years.
Its plain and simple. We are talking about players like Pogba and Vidal ( Quality ) to be brought by Chelsea.
LVG when arrived had the best resume as a manager ( One better than all of the PL managers combined )
He has also spend close to 150 mill and where are they now?

My take is simple, We had the chance to win last season and BR screwed it up.

If FSG are adamant with the trophy, Then they will have to get in World class manager and some special players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry but LVG's resume is not good, nowhere near Mourinho's nor Pellegrini's. When you actually look at it closely, it is a resume of having a blueprint to follow, doing well following it, getting too big for his boots and deciding to move away from the blueprint, followed by falling out with everyone and miserable failure.}

15 Feb 2015 13:04:58
I believe Rodgers can bring trophies, the FA cup has to be a real possibility now, and honestly I see no reason that the Europa league is out of our grasp, I know it's not as weak as some will try to tell you, but I think a proper challenge for that is on the cards too.

Now, he may not win them both or even either, but providing we get top 4, I still think we should stick by him. Mainly because I'm not a fan of changing management every 3-4 years, as it isn't just the manager that changes it's a whole rebuilding process including playing philosophy amongst other things. And secondly, what real options do people think are out there?

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Feb 2015 13:27:37
Agree with Big E on the rebuilding issue. A change of manager would see many players coming in and moving out. We simply cannot afford another 3 years of transition.

{Ed001's Note - that is why you appoint a head coach, rather than manager. They have to make do with what they are given.}

15 Feb 2015 14:09:06
To be frank Ed, it is not solely in Rodgers hand to win us trophies(CL and PL). Chelsea and City are well ahead of us, both have great managers.
For me I will be relaxed with Rodgers if he just keeps on playing the beautiful football without the mistake of the first half. If we get 4th place and we are in CL next year I expect from him to make some clever transfers so that United and Arsenal will not topple us and go near the other 2 strong teams. Also since he got his lesson from CL, I expect him achieve much much more there.
In terms of PL I would expect 3rd place next year with a possibility of a challenge. Nothing else.
For these things I said, I challenge you to name a manager(who we can get) that will achieve more than him next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you expect him to make clever transfers on what basis? You mean now he is not in sole charge of transfers? That would be the transfer committee you are saying will make clever transfers then....
Why are you challenging me to name a better manager? How many times do I have to waste my time saying that we shouldn't have a manager before anyone bothers to take notice?}

15 Feb 2015 14:16:34
And my point is in reference to your comment stating that people who work for the club would happily see the back of Rodgers. So? Does this make it more reasonable to sack him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you still don't understand then? Repeating a stupid comment doesn't make it any more intelligent you know. Just proves that you still don't understand.}

Thank you Ed for setting the other "armchair supporters' straight who because people disagree with them, call us names and such because they have no way of proving you wrong or having a consistent debate on the issues. BR is in a world of trouble with the owners REGARDLESS of how people wanna spin it. He promised them stuff he may not be able to fulfill and if it ends up that way, he might be gone. Whether he will bring trophies or not is another story and remains to b seen. However, we have no time for his stubborness, dithering in the TW, and his other BS and if refuses to get help nor change and learn from his mistakes, then let him go because we will NEVER win the PL by sleep-walking thru half a season due to the stuborness of a manager and in the name of "transition". We need results and the PL ASAP and so do the owners. If he can`t do that then why should we keep him in a position where your job is to WIN?

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 14:32:53
Ok so your problem is that he doesn't have a DoF next to him(or he doesn't accept one).
First of all name me a better coach then that we could appoint. This is the first step. Because I don't think a DoF solves the problems.
Just have a look at Tottenham. Rodgers bad manager. because what did he do as bad manager?
You sound like a broken record with him opening his mouth in the press etc etc or the defense etc etc. Then I tell you that our defense is far far better today than any of the last years in his tenure. Then I tell you Mignolet is a changed man after he was made to sit on the bench. Balotelli? Rodgers will be probably the only manager that made Balotelli chase the ball and time will show that he will be the only manager that changed Balotelli
Sterling? Sterling needs spanking.
Press? Who cares about what he says to the press?
All i see right is unity in the team. A manager who talks before he thinks loses this. He is a great coach, excellent at man management and good(not extraordinary) with transfer dealings. It is not his fault if we didn't get Costa, Willian, Sanchez. So what more could I ask for a manager? Yes he is still learning and despite people saying that he is not learning I will disagree.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - why are you asking me to name a better option? Is your only reason for keeping him that you can't think of a better manager? Does that mean you will accept mediocrity just because your knowledge of the game is so lacking that no one gives you the name of a better manager? Either you think he is the right man, or you don't.

What the hell has Tottenham to do with it?

I sound like a broken record? Have you read the comments you are banging the drum to over and over? Please don't address any more comments to me, you have no interest in a discussion, you just want to shout about how you are right, and shout over anyone who disagrees. Everything that isn't to your liking you just don't seem to care about, even though it is part of his role to deal with the media, apparently you think you know better. Well I am not wasting any more time on you, you are not having a conversation or a discussion, you are just telling me I am wrong. Pointless. You just ignore everything that doesn't suit your view point.

By the way, please don't make disgusting personal comments from your own ignorance about one of our own players. You have no idea what is going on with Sterling and his contract discussions, so give it a rest! This is why the manager should keep his mouth shut and not make comments, because fan boys like you lap it up and jump on a young lad's back with no idea what is going on!}

Rodgers will not work under a DOF unless you impose this on him.

Agree0 Disagree1

Then he should either get the success the owners want on his own or be shown the door.

BTW Ed01, way to go! Some on here are ready to give BR a pass for all his blunders just because we have turned it around a bit and now act like BR`s blunders never happened by making pathetic excuses for his behavior, as a result. As Lenin said, the owners will decide BR`s fate and if he walks, he would have earned it based on his behavior and failure to meet THEIR expectations based on their investment. Nothing more, IMO!

First of all the FFp is the issue of the owners. They sanction the buying of players. So if we get sanctions blame them.

Next, where were all the critics last season? Did Rodgers not do interviews or is it, as i see it, Ed002 makes a quip towards the start of the season and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. A use of the search function would come in handy to see if anyone commented on Rodgers "foot in mouth" syndrome last season.

My opinion? He needs top 4 to survive, if not then it curtains for him. Although i wouldn't be surprised to see him get the chop if he did get top 4. Just then put it down to another FSG cock up. The long list!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - both Ed002 and myself have said from the moment he came under consideration that his mouth was a source of concern. So to suggest it is only this season is quite simply wrong. The reason why it is not getting mentioned by others is because they now have the evidence to see it during his time at Liverpool. It is simply a mass of evidence of his idiotic comments stacking up that have caused the criticism, nothing to do with Ed002.

It is typical of those with no ability to dispute his idiotic comments to try and deflect by suggesting no one would have noticed if it wasn't for Ed002. It is quite simply ridiculous and irritating that you think people are so stupid they can't see what is self evident for themselves, just because you are blinded by your bias.}

16 Feb 2015 10:34:01
I don't get the Kelly injuries thing. He was ok to go last season, BR admitted as much, but said he wanted to ease Kelly into it. he got him to sign a new contract just the season before, then he sold him having never played him. Kelly is now playing well at palace and injury free for about 1.5 years.

I know people make mistakes in the transfer market. But BR's have cost us upwards of 70 million. With the promise of a title challenge.

We've loaned in player like Moses, Chissoko, Sahin, Manquillo and barely played them.

Pile Driver. I would go into finances with finishing places, sponsorship deals with champions league etc etc, but Ed002 might have a fit. They sanctioned the purchases based on assurances given.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe he tried to sort his mouth out by getting them new gnashers?
Maybe he misunderstood what you meant by "his mouth being a source of concern".

Is it a coincidence that the team looks "happier" the same time Gerrard's presence seems to be waning?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I love Gerrard and always will.

I'm convinced though that his presence on the pitch hindered Lucas' development.

I remember seeing Lucas running around like a naive schoolboy when partnered with Stevie as he was snarled at and bullied at times on the pitch.

It's happened to a few others also.

Some would argue that the leaving of Carragher and Gerrard may benefit the club. I don't necessarily agree, but I can respectively see their point.

Stevie has changed now and the relationship now seems a contrast to that of the one then.

Boss player, boss lad and a great servant.

Or maybe their just happy because they are winning games and ONLY that can bring a group together.

Does Mignolets form reflect that of the form of a consistent established back-three partnership, or does the form of the defensive line reflect in a resurgent form of a keeper doomed for the bench?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Imo it should reflect both in this situation. both the back three and mignolet himself has shown improvements in the past few games so credit the backline as a whole.

Agree9 Disagree0

Ooh, chicken and the egg question. I'd say both. Something has happened to Migs, he says he's stopped over thinking, a quote not often associated with a footballer. I think any team benefits from a regular consistent defence, constantly good of course.

Two things have defiantly changed in his game, which must have originally been put in by our staff. The kicking towards the dugout/wing, which 90% resulted in a throw to the opposition. Gone. Having to always play the ball with feet. Gone. He will roll out the ball close and we play out from the back. He was never brought in for his kicking, so I'm glad they've stopped forcing him. His confidence has returned due to this, as the crowds as less on his back from the kicking errors.

IMO Mignolet has turned it around, just like Lucas or Henderson or anyother poor performer that suddenly gets his head down works hard and changes fortune. He should stay and continue. We should bring in another GK for competition and a quality one like the usual top 4 teams already have. Only to improve our team not to instantly replace.

Agree6 Disagree1

I alays thought he was over-coached or poorly-coached. He was asked to do things that he was not good at. Now, they have focused on his strengths and put a defence that does not expose him as much anymore. But credit should firstly go to him for not folding and working hard. Shows he has the temprament to hack it at a big club. If a new GK is brought in to challenge him, so be it. LFC is a big club hence, players should never be too comfortable because someone should b ready to take your job.

I liked the fact BR brought in Mario after HT and didn't wait for the 'traditional' 60 min mark. Among other things that I am impressed with BR recently is how he has been able to keep Baloteli useful for us after he seemed a lost cause for so long. It is true that some people here said that with Sturridge fit it may be easier to integrate Mario, but it does seem as if he can contribute now even when replacing Sturridge. Few more goals from the Italian can be helpful though. I don't know if we can ever have them all on the pitch at the same time but as a defender, having Sterling, Sturridge, Mario, Lallana and Coutinho all coming at you must not be a nice feeling.

Btw Sturrdge's goal yesterday exact copy of Sterling's goal against Bolton (also equaliser to 1:1). Lalana scored similar goal agaisnt leicester. He has very quick feet Adam, it wasn't an easy finish.

Beyond what happen on the pitch, the destiny of this season can very much be determined on the cups draw. So let's hope for a good day tomorrow.

And finally, personal request if I may - winning tight games and coming from behind to win are very nice and a sign of a mature team with good character and form like that team no need to mention its name under that manager that also no need to mention after a happy weekend. Still would be nice occasionaly to kill games early. I honestly cannot remember one game this season when we went to HT leading, let alone leading by more than one. We did it so often last year. Com'on guys think about our heart health.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Sorry mate, I didn't see anything much different yesterday from The Italian.

He has proved he can't be relied on.

He's not a good footballer.

He smiled for a change, that was about that.

Agree1 Disagree10

I'm one of his biggest critics but even I can tell ballotelli has improved his attitude and game lately.
It's like he actually wants to play football.
He still has a long way to go though.

Agree7 Disagree0

It was Ballo's flick, 1-2 and subsequent free kick that made our second goal.

He harried Palace's defence, passed well and really opened up space for Studge too.

Agree5 Disagree0

Davey what is the difference between you slating people for getting on Brendans back. But its ok to get on Marios?

Both have showed improvement recently.

Agree10 Disagree0

Was going to post the same thing, MarcO. Balo`s mentality and attitude seems to have changed and the players seem to enjoy being around eachother as well (winning always helps too). Interstingly, Davey has no prob trashing him BUT supports no matter what, the manager who has contributed a great deal IMO, to his failures. #Interesting!

One for the Ed's, I love the site, I enjoy reading the various opinions and agree with some and disagree with others. I do not add my own opinions very often as more often than not it has been covered by another poster.
What I do enjoy doing is using the Agree or Disagree buttons.
This brings me to my point, most of the contensious issues that are posted draw an opinion from one of the Ed's.This is, more often than not, in conflict with the original poster.
This is fine until I want to either agree or disagree. If I hit the Agree button am I agreeing with the original post or the Eds opinion. Is there any way we can have buttons for both opinions so that we can see who people are agreeing or disagreeing with?
Thanks for the time and keep up the good work

Kevin Kilbane blamed Can for the goal Palace scored yesterday.
I blame Skittles for that one personally.
Not having a go because he has improved a lot for me but you should not be getting eased off the ball by Dwight Gayle who is about 8 stone ringing wet!!
On that note what do people make of Gayle??
I think he is a good player, dives a bit but he has something about him and I can see him playing at a top 6 side in the future.
Liverpool do have history with the Gayle surname:)

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, both were at fault. Can was caught out of position and Skrtel then allowed himself to be outmuscled by Gayle.}

Ed001, what do you reckon is going to happen with Skrtel?

I believe his contract is up end of next season and with FSG not bowing down to Johnson's demands then they will surely also offer Skrtel a small contract extension on reduced wages which he will unlikely accept.

I believe we need to cash in on Skrtel while we still can.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - depends on who is in charge by then.}

What do you make of Gayle Ed001?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - quick, hard working, but lacks intelligence and flops to the ground when brushed past. Not good enough for the Prem in my opinion, if he wasn't quick he would be in the lower leagues.}

15 Feb 2015 08:31:16
Emre looks over at gayle seconds before the pass comes, and markovic clearly has him . I guess that's part of the reason he doesn't hold he's posision. Skrtl is unussually soft in the duel, but i also think that the midfield is doing a very bad job putting pressure on the ball, he should not have been able to hit that pass so easy IMO. Peace

Agree1 Disagree0

Agree with that Ed.

He's a lively player and that's all I see.

Agree1 Disagree1

I don't think the blame should be layed only one on player for that goal, it was a combination of mistakes from both Skrtel and Can.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed1 you said depends who is in charge by then, surely if Liverpool keep this form up til may Rodgers will be there next season!!??
Thabks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - why?}

Yes agree Kaizer, fault lies a little with both, however I do think it could have been given as a foul against Skrtel as Gayle made a back for him, probably anywhere outfield and the ref may have given it, i don't think it was a case of Skrtel being out muscled as he was in the air and strength really has nothing to do with that but I do think Skrtel could have anticipated and dropped a bit quicker to get a full head on the ball but also Can was at fault and you could argue that Skrtel was actually trying to cover Can. How many times this year has Skrtel been blamed for causing someone else to be out of position and therefore at fault. Can is flavour of the month at the moment so not much criticism has come his way. I think we all have to be un-biased and judge each incident on its own.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 11:25:57
I think we've seen BR trying to reintroduce Lovren which will make sense seeing as he is actually a centre back. Can is still very much learning that position (he seems to learn from his mistakes very quickly, to give him credit)

Agree1 Disagree0

Dont get me wrong essex, Can has been very good, just highlighting that we all have our favourites which a lot of times clouds our judgement in the blame game. I heared Niel Mellor give Sakho MOM, I disagree as once again for me he is too prone to mistakes. Actually when thinking about it it was quite hard to pick a MOM, maybe Mingolet or Can for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh i bash skrtel the most and even i can see that it was Cans fault.

Agree0 Disagree1

Mingo for me. He made a point blank save vs Gayle that IMO, changed the game because at 2-0, we DON`t come back and get the win. At best we lose or get an unwanted replay.

Ibe, Sterling, Sturridge and Balotelli for Thursday???
I hope so.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I would leave Sturridge out on Thursday. Keep him fresh for Southampton and better not to over play him after such a long time on the sidelines. Balo, Ibe and Sterling up front with Marko at RWB against Besiktas as lallana and Sturridge need a bit of rest after their injuries.

Agree4 Disagree0

Barnes is on the money. I would sub out Studge after 50-60mins and play Lambo in a perfect world.

15 Feb 2015 03:24:10
Good solid comeback from the Reds. Pleased with the collective team effort and Balo starting to play well.

I kinda feel that some of our players are starting to look a little jaded. Moreno, Markovic, Can, Coutinho etc. They've been playing well but their form seems to have dropped a little.

The squad is light due to injuries and I think that Rodgers should rotate as much as possible. I doubt our first team players can play 2-3 games a week until the end of the season without suffering a dip in form. Maybe the fringe players should be given a chance in the EL and FA Cup games. Players such as Lovren, Toure, Enrique, Lambert etc.

On a side note, can't wait to see who we've drawn in the quarterfinal. Preston North End and Middlesborough will be pretty challenging ties!

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Most of those players have made around 25 appearances ( including as subs) in 7 months, that is not a vast amount. If anything keeping consistency is helping the team.

Agree2 Disagree1

The problem is these fringe players are a world apart from the 12-13 players who start. As we seen yesterday we win games very tightly and these changes can be costly both defensively and going forward (which see to be the case not only with us, this is why City and Chelsea lost their FA cup campaign). Players of a team like Liverpool should be able to play 2 games a week, week in week out. We will have Sterling and Gerrad soon and Baloteli can start games I think so this will give you some flexibility but Enrique, Johnson, Toure, Lambert and Borini and at the moment also Lovern, I would leave on the bench as long as I can, no disrespect to nay of them but at the moment they are not good enough.

Agree1 Disagree0

Fanobip. I agree with you on all except Lovren.
His two cameo appearances have been just as good as Balotelli's.
He deserves a start soon in my opinion.
I would start him on Thursday but rest him against Southampton.
I could see him having a mare against his former club. But that is just me being superstitious!!

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Feb 2015 02:47:27
the weird thing is, when lfc where in their hay day other supporters didn't mind . apart from the mancs. but when mufc where ruling the roost everyone hated them, strangely nobody minds the mancs at present . but other supporters seem to dislike LFC, why is this?.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Because of the reputation associated with the club. As Liverpool fans still celebrate their past successes, they hate this, as they think it's delusional, and because they can't boast about the same achievements themselves. Plus, we are the so called best fans in the world, so we have made a name for ourselves throughout the world as the best fans in England, other fans would be bias and think they have the best fanbase and start to reject us. The fact that most pundits and media, and pro Liverpool rather than anti Liverpool, other fans would hate this. Finally, we achieved our success in the proper manner, and we remind the money teams that they will never be able to achieve this feat. Kind of like a women with natural beauty compared to a women with make up beauty.

I would call a majority of them haters, but a lot of them just dislike us because we sometimes think we have a divine right to be involved in certain conversations like winning the title Etc. However, the ridiculous notion that we are no longer a big club is nonsense. Whenever I go to a foreign country, they know Liverpool and UTD, that's about it, unless they are avid football fans. That is saying something.

Agree1 Disagree0

The word.
That simply is not true.
Any team with success for a sustained period starts to become disliked because it becomes a bit of a monopoly.
And because Liverpool's successful period lasted two decades (same with United) they become disliked more than most.
I started supporting Liverpool in the late 1980's and believe me, we were definitely hated due to our success by other clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Word, how did your boys do last week? ;)

Agree1 Disagree0

What can I say, boys? I guess, "They Hate Us because They AIN`T Us". Look, LFC will always be a big club REGARDLESS of our standing, held in the same breathe as Barca, Bayern, Ajax, Juventus, Milan, Utd, RM, Marseilles, PSG, BVB, Inter, and Arsenal.

I backed the gaffer in November when it was all doom and gloom and said wait until he gets his best 11 then judge. Well he has now and we are playing well does anyone of the "brendaned Brigade" hold their hands up and say they were wrong? Or am I going to get the usual tripe that I read from so called fans/eds saying it was all his fault he was to stubborn to change his tactics! He done what he thought was best for the team he lost his strike force and tried to build from the back which by the way looks better than it has done in a few years.I'm not looking for agrees or disagrees I'm just saying Brendan is a good manager and deserves our loyalty at the end of the day we are playing good attacking football and other teams are looking over there shoulders! No disrespect to fans or eds but that's the way I see it! Everyones in titled to their views this is mine. YNWA

Believable11 Unbelievable6

I'm not one of those who want Rodgers out and I actually think he's a good manager but, best 11 or not, there's no excuse for how rubbish we were for the first 3 months of the season. What cost us was the transfer business. If you let Suarez go and don't replace him even though you knew he was going, you can't complain when suddenly the team isn't playing as well as it was last season

Agree3 Disagree4

It does not matter how well we play from till the end of the season. If Brendan cannot get a UCL place and a trophy in the end, then he is as good as gone. Try looking at the bigger picture from the owners POV, business is not as simple as "just enjoy the team's performances."
There are targets to be achieved and promises that need to be kept. If Brendan cannot fulfill those promises then he has failed the owners and the club. A club that wants to be in the list of elite should start their season from August, not from January every year.

Agree9 Disagree4

15 Feb 2015 04:21:36
He shouldn't have taken so long to get us to this stage though. We always had a quality team and yes maybe it took time for players to settle in, but I garentee if he had played the more fast attacking football he played last season we would be 2/3rd easily.

It's not like Tottenham where players are learning a new style of football most of our team played that football the whole of last season and were extremely good at it. We was not a one man team last season we made Suarez that good not the other way round.

Agree4 Disagree2

Let's face it, everyone wants the manager to do well because that would mean the team does well. What annoyed everyone is that it took him 4 months to realize that playing similar tactics to last season was the way to go instead of using his arrogant system that never worked.

Agree4 Disagree2

15 Feb 2015 06:05:08
I for one don't feel that he has done enough. Scraping results, although results non the less, against teams that we should be beating convincingly only goes to highlight that we, will not and do not cut it against the teams that we should competing with for the CL places and title. If, after last season, mediocrity is acceptable then he is doing a great job. His bizarre team selections, tactics and media outbursts with delicate situations show that he is currently NOT doing a great overall job. The players were always going to raise their game and perform because they are good players and nobody crosses that white line to lose every week.

Agree0 Disagree3

Your views are fine and opinions are all allowed. For me, I'd just say the manager is responsible for the whole season, not just the parts where we do well and he'll be judged at the end of the season on the final result, which is as it should be.

Agree2 Disagree1

Surely "looking at the bigger picture" would be not sacking Brendan Rodgers for a bad 3 months?
And how can anyone say there was no excuse for the bad start to the season?
Look at who left, how many arrived and who was injured.
I said I would not judge this team for the first 3 months because we basically had a new team.
I must admit I started to doubt the manager but even his harshest critic can't argue with 1 defeat in 17 games.
Everyone said we needed a defensive coach. Who is saying that now?
The manager solves problems. (some were of his own making granted)
We have belief, we have our fear factor back and we will get top 3 and hopefully a cup.
If the players keep doing the basics.
I have been posting a lot recently in support of the manager and that is basically because I can see a prolonged period of success coming if we keep a) the owners b) the manager and c) the core group of young players.
My question would be why sack a manager who is on the cusp of something great?
He puts together long periods of sustained form.
Last year 12 wins 1 loss and 1 draw in the last 14 games.
This year 1 defeat in 17 after an abysmal start when his neck was on the line.
People claim the transfer business was awful while at the same time are watching the very same players blossom in front of their eyes.
If we sack this manager then we will have made the biggest mistake since appointing Souness.
Even fans at other clubs I speak to are getting worried. That has not happened for years.
Patience is a virtue for a reason.
I would prefer to look at the long term rather than 3 months when judging Brendan Rodgers and that long term looks very promising.
The away support told you everything you needed to know.
They are a good judge of manager and they were singing his name to the rooftops.
Get on board lads. Its going to be fun.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - I still think we need a defensive coach, we still can't defend, our set up at set pieces is awful. Joe Allen man marking a centre back? What the hell is that about? How are we on the cusp of something great? We are not top 4, where we should be if we had a top manager. In fact a top manager would have us pushing City, maybe even Chelsea, this season. An average manager would have us outside the top 4 looking to blame losing Suarez and bringing in lots of players for us not being up there, even though the fault was totally his.}

I am one of those who thought earlier this season he should go because how poor we have been and not for one game or two but consistently. We were really awful.

I have changed my mind around Xmas as I said here several times and am quite impressed with how much we was able to change things around. I don't feel very guilty about the fact I wanted him gone, because it is very rare that a team play so awful consistently for 3-4 months and then change and play so well and consistently win as we did in recent months.

I agree with other here that if we don't win trophies and finish top4 the season will still be considered a failure though I am pretty sure if we are able to play like we play now until the end of the season BR's position is safe. Assuming we cannot bring a Mourinho or Guardiola, getting rid of BR when the team is playing so well and a very attractive football as well, and when he is very popular among the players, would be insane and the way I read the owners they are not keen to get rid of him unless they feel we hit rock bottom.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think we are zonally marking with our biggest defenders, so they are free to attack the ball and the smaller members of the team stand in front of the oppositions players to try and stop them from getting an easy run at the ball.
Not a bad theory but I am not sure it will work.
I would not be unhappy having a new voice and ideas in terms of defensive coaching its not an insult to receive help is it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes they are doing that, and it is idiotic and will cost us over extended periods of time. We always look like we are going to concede and it gives opponents hope. Fix the set pieces issue and we would find opponents concentrating entirely on trying to stop us, which would put us under even less defensive pressure.}

Sorry ed. We will have to disagree on that.
I think its obvious we are on the cusp of a prolonged period of success.

Agree3 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - how is it obvious? Every season he messes up the first few months, when has he shown any signs of learning a lesson from that? This is the 3rd season in a row now, there has been not one single sign of anything changing.}

Harsh because the 1st season is always going to take time to settle with a new coach and players who are not used to his methods.
And I know Koeman has hit the ground running but that is not always the case.
Last season we won the first 4 games in a row.
I am happy to go with you in your belief that we were not playing great football but we were picking up results early on last season.
And in my opinion there are lots of reasons why we had a slow start this year. 9 new players, manager being stubborn, Losing best player in Europe behind CR and LM and our other worldy striker being injured on England duty.
I can agree that he deserves a lot more criticism for this seasons poor start than the other two starts and that does give credence to your argument about not learning.
But you can't ignore the fact that he always finds solutions to the perceived problems.
That is surely the sign of a good manager.
For me the biggest reasons I think we are onto something big is the style of Football we play, the age of our squad and the academy we have. ( if he uses it)
Maybe I am overly optimistic Ed001 after a good result yesterday.
Or maybe its because the wife and kids are about to go to the mother in laws for about 3 days.
FREEDOM.
And sorry in advance for the increased post traffic headed your way.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate but as I see it Rodgers is like Mourinho, Bielsa, Redknapp, Allardyce and almost every manager every to have managed. They have their way of playing and will always revert to it as soon as they possibly can.

Allardyce is a really prime example, fighting for a top 3 place, playing good footie, after being forced to change his style or be sacked. So what does he do at that point, when he has made himself safe from the chop? He reverts back to 'his' style and they slide down the table. I know people are making excuses about injuries, but they had those injuries when they were flying. It is not injuries, it is poor management.

Rodgers made himself safe last season using a different style, so what does he do at the start of this season? That's right, he reverts to 'his' style. It was only when his situation was close to an immediate sacking that he made a change. As soon as he is safe, he will once again revert to 'his' style of boring pass, pass, pass, going nowhere football that has failed him miserably but he is too arrogant to accept defeat with.}

Jonnybarnes, so u are happy that that our season for the past 3 seasons has started from January? That is simply not good enough for a club like LFC. Fans like u have gotten so used to mediocrity that even the slightest improvement is seen a success by you. What excuse will u have if Brendan makes the same excuses next season repeatedly. How can us say this season is anything more than a pathetic failure if the club is not in the UCL next season after spending nearly 150 million GBP?
"A manager on the cusp of something great???" Did u say the same thing after last season? How did that turn out for u? This excuse about needing time and more time is just plain c**p. Managers just come up with this excuse to cover their own backsides and the fans just lap it up. Pellegrini won the BPL in his first season with a fractured Man City team. Saints are challenging for top4 after losing half their first team squad. I didn't see these two making lame excuses about needing time, instead opting to achieve the season's targets. Brendan should take a leaf out of their books, and admit his shortcomings.

Agree2 Disagree1

Jonnybarnes, put urself in the owners shoe. Think of all the money you have spent over his time as the manager. and not the performances of the past month alone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barnes, we are all positive because we want our team to win. It just seems like you are ready to give BR a pass for all his unforced blunders (LS is not one because he knew he would be sold) by making suppositions and excuses for his appalling conduct. "On the cusp of something big". Did you say that with a straight face because i`ll have whatever you`re having. You can be positive BUT please, be reasonable and logical and quit glossing over his recurrent failures that the owners (bless their hearts) will no longer tolerate IMO. I know this because we both know that if we were FSG, we would not tolerate this shambles from an employee so why should they tolerate it from BR? Top 4 was NOT the target he promised and like it or not, HE DID and it will be seen as failure so why should they keep him? because he has a good half a season every year or because he speaks 3 languages? His job is to win and get success that the owners have spent fortunes on and if he can`t do that over 3 years, then we both know what the verdict could be. Come this summer, he will have to explain himself and the verdict will fall.

Agree0 Disagree0

If our season started in January last year then we must have been doing something well before then because we were top in January.

Agree0 Disagree0

Redohio, not a pass but time.

{Ed002's Note - We can do nothing about penile issues given you are a Liverpool supporter. All I can say is, it is not the meat it's the motion.}

Great game by the whole team.
Im liking the new Mario. He is passing the ball a lot quicker, also not trying to do too much on the ball, just keeping things moving. I think he has finally bought in.
But the thing i'm liking the most is how he is aggravating his defenders. If he keeps it up and keeps his own cool, it will only benefit the team (red, yellow cards, free kicks pens). And some pay back for him on some of the low acts we'v seen on him by some defenders this season. Keep smiling Mario!

He has pace, strength, almost everything u need to be a good striker.

with application he could be a very good buy. so I do agree with you, but he needs to keep this up.

Agree1 Disagree0

Totally agree, ability never been his issue but he's getting himself in good areas and his decision making has improved ten fold. Like having a new strike force with him improving and Danny back.

I slagged him really badly (but i was angry)when he played crap, so i want to say well done Migs
the saves today if performed by Peter Schmeicel would still be being shown on the BBC!

Believable14 Unbelievable0

I thought most of the season he was in the bottom 5 keepers in the league. He's actually looking like a top 5 keeper in the league now. Even at corners and free kicks I no longer have to cover my eyes as he's so much more commanding. Still can't kick though lol

Great win today, but did anyone notice Sturridge ducking out of tackles? i can't say i blame him too much after the injuries, but it is still worrying.

Just like to say a massive WELL DONE TO MARIO.
I have stuck by this guy from day one and wanted him in as a dream move and totally was shocked and disgraced what he put in on arrival.
Brendan you are a genius if you can get this guy motivated.
Carry on working hard Mario, The Rewards are coming. YNWA
