Barclays Premier League 2011/12
Win Tournament

man u 9/5
chelsea 11/4
man city 4/1
arsenal 9/1
liverpool 11/1
tottenham 50/1

that is really amazing.Those odds show us to be with a chance. Tottenham finished above us, they where in the C/L. we have a 11/1 chance of winning it.

We need a attack minded, first touch, attacking midfielder footballer to play with Luis suarez

imagine what a Nasri , Fabregas., suarez attack could do. It would just be unstopable.

We need to find someone capable of playing Luis Suarez style of football.

Hate the Word "Marquee signing" it's So Real Madrid & look where it's got them

Here's a question for Eds and fellow Reds, the start if a new season is only weeks away, but which pundits do ye think are best? I highly recommend that Uk/ROW reds check out RTE's the premiership featuring Johnny Giles, Eammon Dunphy and Liam Brady, they call it as it is and are bloody hillarious to watch at time, check them
Out on YouTube

Perhaps someone can answer a question for, just in relation to scouting of Irish players, do the scouts primarily focus on Dublin based clubs?

What's everyone views?

Is it true we are no longer looking for another defender? I think we need one

15 Jul 2011 23:30:22
Watching Commolli on LFC Tv on the Downing signing, he does intimate that this could be our last signing, which would fit in with Maccas views. But he did also say that there will be outgoings so then this would be re assessed So it does seem like there will have to be outgoings before any more in comings

macca - how long ago was it that you heard we're now not in for a LB? Only reason I ask is for a long time now you have said that enrique was a priority and I have been happy to go along with that. Do you know what has changed?

Cheers

Seems odd that after the comolli interview where he said that the main signings that we wanted to, have been done and after the much argued macca statement, do you think that Insua may end up staying and challenge aurelio for first choice left back role ed? I personally think it's a huge priority to get an LB in. Aurelio is decent but never available and if Cissokho is available he would make a fantastic EPL player in my opinion.

To those whinging about how slow we have been in the transfer market - we have signed the most players of all the Top 6 (possibly barring United, I think we're on 6 (counting the 2 youths) and I'm not sure on United's status), secured 4 of our top targets and signed 2 today. By the middle of July. The team will have a whole month know to get to know each other before the season starts, and there could very well be more signings before the 31st August.

downing done and dusted great signing, cant wait to see big andy power one of his crosses into the back of the net

15 Jul 2011 22:54:38
If Liverpool were to go for Alonso they would need to sell poulsen, aqua, meireles and loan out spearing and jonjo. Would be great to see 3 in midfield of Gerradr Alonso and adam

Hamburger striker Son Heung-Min scores five goals in 12-0 thriller friendly

Son Heung-Min born 8 July 1992 is a South Korean footballer who plays for German Bundesliga side Hamburger SV.

In 2008, Son Heung-Min joined Hamburg's youth academy at the age of 16. He was impressive in the 2010-11 preseason, by leading the team with 9 goals and signed his first professional contract on his 18th birthday. After scoring against Chelsea F.C. in August 2010, he was injured for two months due to a foot injury. He came back on October 30, 2010 scoring his first league goal on F.C. K ln in the 24th minute. The goal made Son the youngest HSV player to have scored a goal in Bundesliga at 18 years, thus breaking the previous records

Son Heung-min has signed a new deal with Hamburg, which will keep him at the club until 2014. Due to his performances in the pre-season he is being affectionately nicknamed "Korean M ller" and received praise from Franz Beckenbauer who said that Son had what it takes to become the next Cha Bum Kun.

he looks like a goal scorer who is young and Asian. Both of which LFC need

Downing all done and dusted Now just waiting for a marquee signing and we should be good to challange for the title

15 Jul 2011 22:43:45
If Liverpool sign Baines and Cahill we are going to take some serious stopping. We're probably a quick, tricky winger and another backup goalscorer from having an outstanding squad. KK = legend

15 Jul 2011 22:43:38
I have a feeling that downing and suarez (combination) will link up very well together, than suarez and carroll.

what's ur opinion EDs or anyone?

Ed, I'm just wondering, are you fit to tell weather I'm a regular poster on the site by my IP address even though I don't sign my posts? {Ed009's Note - not really, we don't check the IP addresses unless there is something we believe suspicious. You should just sign your posts mate. I used to find it made people much more respectful of my views and you get to build up more or a rapport with the legend that is me... lol.}

Hi ed is it just me or are ssn trying to void mentioning the downing signing .they mentioned tevez three times .only once downing .anyway great season next year

15 Jul 2011 22:25:19
Ed, I was just wondering what do you make of our signings so far? Of course they improve the first team and IMO there's a good chance of 4th spot. The likes of city tho I'm sure have plenty more signings to make, I just think that although we've improved other teams have too, maybe more. {Ed009's Note - I am happy. I believe that so far they are up there with the best signings we could have made. Were we to sign Cissokho and Dann, for example, it would be the best transfer window I've ever lived in and we would be able to give every team in the league a good fight.}

15 Jul 2011 22:23:29
Ignore what people say Macca, i enjoy reading your posts mate Keep it up .

15 Jul 2011 22:18:54
would i be able to buy liverpool football club with £161million cash? just come into a winful {Ed009's Note - feel free to give it away as an angel investment. We could get a few nice players for that money.}

Hi Eds, just wondering if you could shed some light on the pool team coming over to ireland to play bray. Know its not the first but still tryin to think of a few names coming over. Sterling and morgan (or they still on leave after wc). Suso? Could stevie g, hendo and reina come over just as promo and not play? Cheers stew {Ed009's Note - I have to say I simply don't know, I'm sorry. I am sure that someone else will be able to help.}

15 Jul 2011 21:10:26
Hi Ed's, what a lovely site Now that we've been very active in the signing business, my intuition tells me that it is over for this window, with a little suspicion about Dann. Well, we've been linked with well over 50 players in this window. And, I am personally satisfied with KK & DC's decisions. Among those we were linked with, I have put my wish list as follows (not going against KK's decisions). Please tell me your honest opinion who you would've signed if you were in KK's boots.

1. Hazard (30 mill)
2. Arda Turan (25 mill)
3. Mata (20 mill)
4. Charlie Adam (8 mill)
5. Bastos (12 mill)
6. Honda (?)

I would keep the following:

1. Merieles
2. Ngog

Thanks {Ed009's Note - Mata, Cissokho, Honda, Adam, Downing. Perhaps Dann too.}

Cissokho could join Sorry for the copy and paste eds, but do you think this could happen?

'Liverpool FC are very close to making their next big signing with Aly Cissokho likely to be named as their new left-back next Monday.
Liverpool still require a new defender in that area and had considered Newcastle United's Jose Enrique however the Spaniard would prefer to join a side competing in this seasons Champions League competition. Arsenal were linked with Cissokho but Wenger confirmed that the left side of their defence was covered, leaving the route free for Dalglish to make his move for the strong 23 year old.
Figures of £10m have been quoted although his current club Lyon are looking to sell for at least £12m, having paid Porto 15m in 2009. There will be concerns on his medical however, with AC Milan pulling out at the last minute in 2009 after discovering could suffer from spinal injuries later on in his career.
Should a medical go through without any issues, Liverpool's defence will look complete with just another striker expected to join the squad this summer.'

From footybunker.com....Thanks eds great site and to all those slating Macca, just because he' got his own page and is reliable, you don't need to be jealous. Just accept he knows more about the going's on @ lfc more than you :P

YoungRed {Ed009's Note - I am not sure we have made a bid yet but we could well do soon, we are certainly interested.}

15 Jul 2011 21:31:20
Hey Ed's, I understand Downing is having a second medical, I don't suppose you know if anything happened to go wrong with his first medical?...

Pete {Ed009's Note - I imagine it was just to make doubly sure. The player appears to be fine and was last spotted clad in LFC training gear. The signing will happen.}

15 Jul 2011 21:28:50
People should stop worrying about Downings medical. Aquilani passed one of our medicals haha, there shouldn't be any problems. With any luck he will be announced this weekend.

Michael.

15 Jul 2011 21:28:35
just been watching the downing highlights against liverpool and against man u , downing is a player we have needed for years he always attacks the full backs trys to beat them can go inisde or out , also he is always bombing forward on the counter attacks and his delivery is excellent , for all thoughs doubting him , just wait n see he's class

15 Jul 2011 21:22:06
Macca makes agood point. We don't really need a LB, we have cover with Johnston, Flannagan and Kelly. Adam Johnson would be an excellent purchase and another CB would be good ( Cahill or Shawcross). Not saying any of this is fact, just opinion

15 Jul 2011 21:21:05
You know it's a pretty poor show when we start abusing one of our own fans in the manner some are doing with 'Macca'. It boils down to immaturity and jealousy, two traits that turn men into boys and boys into babies. It's very embarrassing to read fellow LFC fans having a go and very cringeworthy.

In fact it's pathetic. In his case, he is no prophet, he doesn't try or want to be. All he is, is a Liverpool fan like ourselves and just so happens to be in the 'lucky' position to have a source from within the club that he is related to. He didn't need to reveal his source and in fact a year or so ago, he was put under a lot of pressure to do exactly that to stop mountains of posters calling him a fraud.

I maintain he shouldn't have done that, but he did in an attempt to prove his integrity. The majority of the fans took this evidence and perhaps went further and started hanging on every word, creating more pressure on him.

He comes on here, like we all do, and posts what he has heard or been told. You have two choices, you read what he has to say, weigh up what other crumbs of info you've picked up and evaluate. You can either agree with what he has to say or not.You can disagree without being abusive.

Why you feel the need to actually verbally attack the lad is crude, baseless and reveals more about the low level of your IQ.

For him to come on here and ask the question whether people want to hear him or not is nothing short of disgraceful. Those of you that have verbally abused him. Shame on you. You should be ashamed of your actions.

The page, for the last bloody time, was set up by the Ed's to attempt to try and cut out the endless requests for info on what Macca said. This has been interpreted by some who think he has been turned into some kind of Liverpool know it all God.

I'm no Macca 'fan' as such. His posts give a little more insight and provide more interest than most. And if there's something this site needs/has is interest and variation.

But at the end of the day he doesn't have to do this. Unless he has thick skin he may well think it isn't really worth the hassle. If you could just treat him like anyone else on here and cut the abuse, it could be the lest we could expect from neanderthals.

And Macca, i think the majority overrules the minority but as with most things in life, the minority are always louder.

Some of the posters on here have hit an all time low. Congratulations. Bloody unbelievable. After everything the club has gone through in the last 3/4 years, the whingers and the moaners flock to this site like s**t to a blanket.

15 Jul 2011 20:57:34
I wish people would stop banging on about how much liverpool have spent O/K £100 mill is a lot but net spend after sales is £45 mill. And if we can sell more of the deadwood the amount will be a lot lower.well done DC and KK

15 Jul 2011 19:57:07
If our new signings get us back into the top 4 and maybe a decent cuP run or 2 then have we really overpaid for them? They will be bargains in my opinion if we manage this, the top 4 has never been so hard to break back into. It will take a lot of hard work but I think we will get there.
Mikey

LFC only need a top left-back and a Carroll style striker. They already hav cover for all other positions.

Ray Wilkins when questioned on talksport earlier was asked if he thought that Liverpool would be a threat for the title next season. Almost immediately, he answered that No, not in any way will they trouble Chelski or the mancs. He said that anyone finishing above those two would win the league. I was wondering does Ray have a problem with us ? Eddy ?? Blader. {Ed009's Note - perhaps it was simply his opinion.}

15 Jul 2011 20:59:14
I do not understand the animosity towards Macca. he is the only reason i visit the site as he and maybe a couple of the Editors are the only posters trying who provide reliable information. Hopefully the morans don't drive him away though god knows i wouldn't blame him.

15 Jul 2011 20:58:46
Doni deal done. It is a decent signing for free as well. We will be signing downing too just be patient lads. Cheers great site lads. I check it every 6 hours or so.

two more signings and the premiership is ours.

Eds, despite you guys saying that you are no longer giving ratings for predictions coming true, people are still asking.

What are the chances that people will still keep asking? (Out of 10 please) {Ed009's Note - they can ask all they like I have absolutely no problem with that, I will just answer with words instead.}

15 Jul 2011 20:50:32
Look in all fairness i did not ask for my own page..

In my defense how can you doubt some of the transfers i have mentioned..

I am pretty sure i have more right than wrong..

Also most of the other targets i mentioned, the club tried to sign..

How many have you posted that have been correct.

If people would prefer me not to post then please let me know and i will stop..

Look forward to your responses..

Cheers

Macca {Ed002's Note - I would rather we drew a line under this sniping at Macca and carried on as though it never happened.}

15 Jul 2011 20:34:28
Hi Ed & everybody,

I dont know if this sounds any good to you let me know what you think, I beleive the best signings for us if we could get them would be for experience and position wise and all round perfect players for us:

1. LB / L_Baines - Stats show he had most assists and most landed successful crosses into the box last season (Downing had the second highest stats for last year), I say Ashley Young who, Baines is a quality player and should be playing in red and not blue.
Price> 8 - 14 million? Not sure because Everton are struggling for cash so might get a good deal, probably not though with the blue sha*t hating us. lol

2. CB / Scott Dann - Quality player perfect for liverpool, would work hard for us and with him being a Liverpool supporter it would make his dreams come true to play for us (Just imagine how good he could be playing for his childhood dream team, if he plays like he does for Birmingham).
Price> 8 - 12 million?

3. ST / Jeffren Suarez - Another quality player I beleive he would suit our football better in the PL, quick skillful and knows where the net is for sure.
Plus his price tag wouldn't break the bank with an 8.3 milllion buy out clause excellent price and excellent player to put pressure on Suarez & Carroll to work hard to stay in the team.
Price> 8 - 9 million?

What do you think Ed buddy and what does everybody think?

Total_ 30 million more before transfer window closes.

15 Jul 2011 20:34:01
Really cant understand why people are wondering why the Downing transfer hasnt been confirmed. The results of a medical takes two days and as he had it on Thursday that means it will be sometime on saturday when its announced, scource Steve Buckner club doctor on lfctv

15 Jul 2011 20:30:55
Anybody ed's/macca, with the inside track on the downing saga?2nd medical?Has he signed?why he has'nt yet?
Any ideas?
Al {Ed002's Note - Just have a little patience and I am sure everything will become clear.}

15 Jul 2011 20:29:23
Ed i think that we need one more attacking player to give us that bit extra if we are going to challenge. Someone like mata, hulk, aguero, lavezzi, honda or pato. Do you think that if we ship the deadwood out then we might see another big attacking player like suarez coming in? it doesn't havae to be one of the players i mentioned they are just options

15 Jul 2011 20:27:29
Hey edd I'm sure I saw or heared somewhere that downing was going to have a medical at melding then two hostipals not totally sure though, just thought u would pass this on :) thanks. JD

15 Jul 2011 20:21:33
it has been mentioned on here a couple of times that the moaning about our signings has turned a little bit into optimism, but i want to quote j rgen klopp, the guy who turned an "average squad" into champions last year and made most of them wanted stars (sahin anyone? or hummels?). he said something about buying stars, that you don't have to buy them because the team has to be the star and players marked as stars bring most times trouble into the team with their diva-attitude and their high expectations. it reminded me of our precious kenny, the team he has in mind and how i trust him to rock next season, just like dortmund did last.
in the kind we trust

To prat's that keep slating Macca, give it a rest nobody but nobody can be right ALL the time. Personal message you mate, carry on, it interesting to get what is clearly a much closer view than we will ever get, thanks buddy....

Meantime, let the speculation from the jesters and imposters continue, some'll be right others wrong.

have a good weekend all and let's hope we get Dann, Cissoko and a decent back up striker possibly a big name over the next month...

The mancs should be nervous

I no we have an influx of midfielders but ever benaga 8.1m is a snip defo if you can offload other players and believe me give this lad 2 years and I bet you couls easily double his value he is class (emlyn)

15 Jul 2011 19:38:57
Ed is Phil Thompson and Ian Rush now part of the backroom staff. just seen video clip on youtube all the players , kenny , clarke on the plane also with Tommo and Rush in liverpool tracksuits..Cheers (irishred) {Ed002's Note - It was mentioned that they are "Ambassadors" for the club.}

15 Jul 2011 19:37:52
All this stuff about not buying a left back is good the simple option is to play agger on the left as we will be more solid I think we also have good back up in flanna I think the last buy should be a back up striker to cover up incase of any injurys maybe dirk could be the man I dunno are team if not far off now get rid of some dead wood and we can still have a good strong bench bring it on boys. Mick

15 Jul 2011 19:34:56
Could the hold up in completing the Downing transfer be the rumours of Joe Cole going the other way?

We will get Downing no matter what happens, but it could be straight cash for Downing, or cash+ Joe Cole?

15 Jul 2011 19:33:12
ed hi mate sky sports news have just said downing has had 2 meds ?ed latest news on this please. he must be are man now.doni is in so what is going on the price is no prob is it a done deal.jay essex red for life red till dead {Ed002's Note - I don't know why he has had two medicals - perhaps one for each leg. The Doni deal is done apparently.}

15 Jul 2011 19:31:01
Just a guess but a good one I think the reason we haven't bought a rw is kk planning on using johnson there and playing
Kelly as starting rb. Id be well happy with that as I think he's better suited to rw

It would be wise to remove the Macca rumours from this site.

It is clear he is way off the mark and the rising negative comments towards him have gone beyond acceptable.

Do the right thing a relieve him of his pedestal and return him to where he belongs amongst those who don't really know anything.

I agree its only a rumour site but Macca is no more accurate than most.

A blind squirrel will eventually find a nut. {Ed009's Note - it is something we will have to consider if people continue to vent their anger at him for seemingly no reason. The page was created because people consistently asked for what he had said.}

-----------------------------------------------------------

Look in all fairness i did not ask for my own page..

In my defense how can you doubt some of the transfers i have mentioned..

I am pretty sure i have more right than wrong..

Also most of the other targets i mentioned, the club tried to sign..

How many have you posted that have been correct.

If people would prefer me not to post then please let me know and i will stop..

Look forward to your responses..

Cheers

Macca {Ed002's Note - I would rather we drew a line under this sniping at Macca and carried on as though it never happened.}

any ideas who is gonna play right.....surely we must be looking, because kuyt even though he is a work horse is no winger, also raul m has been used there, but again not a winger, that leaves maxi who wants out, j cole who is also up 4 sale or henderson, but it has already been quoted that he is long term replacement for gerrard....was wondering if johnson might be tried on wing, we all know he is good going forward, and it seems we r after a another defender...any thoughts.......
Also signing that we would know is surely staunton and kk was just messing with media

Sorry everyone, longish time reader first time poster and made a right twerp of myself. Ment to go on Arsenal banter after having a flick thorough a few teams sites.Their trying to discredit our new signing's by putting bull kack stats and info on their sight. Might have to read a bit more carefully next time who that i'm posting to the correct site or give it a miss. Gutted to see it end up on here but i was doing my best to defend our new signing's from complete statistical and personal footballing lies. Lancashire Red. {Ed009's Note - no problem mate, always good to have a new poster on here, especially one who signs his posts!}

15 Jul 2011 18:59:14
ed if you can't buy out outside the transfer window can you sell to another team outside the transfer window if it was thier transfer window, p.s I could really use an answer?? {Ed009's Note - International transfers have to take place during the international transfer window, so no as far as I am aware.}

15 Jul 2011 17:59:21
Ed where is everybody getting this idea that Alonso is coming back this summer from ? {Ed009's Note - the bandwagon I imagine. I am not sure there is any concrete evidence to suggest we will make a move.}

15 Jul 2011 18:50:27
I think willian would be great for us he has got skill and trickery and he could play upfront.

15 Jul 2011 18:50:21
I'm happy that things are moving nicely along now. The other week we has people posting their concerns, but now the pessimism has turned to optimism. Just shows that patience really is a virtue.

Anyway, the real reason I wanted to post is to question a poster who seems to talk out of his rusty sherrifs badge on a regular basis. The lad starts his post with "this is the turdz speaking".

Every signing brings a post from turd whining that he should be given credit for posting months ago that we would get the player, and that we heard it from him first.

I'll bet my testicals and right eye that the lad does what most of us do, and look through rumour sites and papers etc. Fair enough it's a rumour site and the lad bring rumours. Fair play.

Mr Turd, whether we sign Downing, Dann or Ken Aguero, don't come on whining pal. Stick to your Joey Barton. Sorry Turd But you do my cap in.

Cheers.

By the way, Whats the latest on Ken? Not been many sightings since somebody seen him in the chippy buying a battered beef burger and a cone of scratchings. I'm pretty sure I spotted him at 100 penny citadel today. He was buying an LFC 08/09 team poster so I think it could be gathering some pace again. You heard it here first

This waz slightly musty Mr Pissy speaking.

Scott78 {Ed009's Note - I am not sure Ken will be signing anymore. He was denied a permanent work permit for crime reasons after he was found with his hand stuck inside the slot machine. TheTurdz will have his moment of glory when Barton makes his 80 million move.}

I don't mean to sound silly, but there us one thing that I keep reading on here and in LFC forums and it's doing my head in. I would just like to take this opportunity to say Glen Johnson is NOT A LEFT BACK He may play the position well, when asked to as cover for injury, but you can see he is not comfortable there. Does he make those rampaging runs when at LB-NO. Does he put in good crosses when he's on the left-NO. If he comes up against a quality RW will he be found wanting-YES. Will his concentration lapse if he's on the 'wrong' side-YES.
Ffs play the right players in their right positions or at the very least keep the on their right sides (excuse the pun). Those people saying 'we don't need a LB, we've got Glen' will be the first to slate him when he gets his ass served to him by a good right winger. We are sooo close to having a really good squad why do we want to cut corners?? I have no problem if we play Glen RM (I think he'd be amazing without the responsibility of having to defend but with his experience and energy could still track back and cover well) and use Kelly as RB. But having Glen full-time LB? For the love of god no......
Sorry if I bored you, but it needed to be said......

Lets stop getting carried away with who we will buy... We need to start getting rid of some of the dead wood... ... with a squad a lot bigger now We all know how destructive a couple of miserable players can be to team morale.. As good as Kenny is there is no way he can keep them all happy especially in midfield so I say trim it down and use some of the kids who are more than happy to warm the bench.. I know we lose a little depth but gain a lot more...... Would sooner have 1 happy player than 2 potentially morale sapping ones

i think that were signing doni perhaps suggests that reina wont be fit for the start of the season what do you make of it ed? {Ed009's Note - no. It is because we need a decent back up for Reina.}

15 Jul 2011 18:12:21
Eds,

It would be wise to remove the Macca rumours from this site.

It is clear he is way off the mark and the rising negative comments towards him have gone beyond acceptable.

Do the right thing a relieve him of his pedestal and return him to where he belongs amongst those who don't really know anything.

I agree its only a rumour site but Macca is no more accurate than most.

A blind squirrel will eventually find a nut. {Ed009's Note - it is something we will have to consider if people continue to vent their anger at him for seemingly no reason. The page was created because people consistently asked for what he had said.}

15 Jul 2011 18:24:59
Alberto Aquilani, Charlie Adam, Christian Poulsen, Jay Spearing, Joe Cole, Jonjo Shelvey, Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva, Maximiliano Rodriguez, Raul Meireles, Steven Gerrard thats are midfeild for next season

15 Jul 2011 18:23:48
So Reading this site today, and putting 2 + 2 together and getting 5. KK supposedly mentioning a familiar face during the xfer window and the recent rumours of Xabi coming back..... wishful thinking? probably.... and it means we will need a bus/plane just for the midfielders to travel to game. Would be great tho.

Breaking news: Liverpool have signed goalkeeper Alexander Doni
-----------------------------------------
Someone posted this in rumours after it was made offical, that we had signed Doni. But still it got 3 unbelievables? lol

15 Jul 2011 18:11:09
Why dont we buy ADAM HAMMILL for the right wing? he is a stewart downing but right footed.

15 Jul 2011 18:10:29
So doesn't the signing of Doni completely go back on the buying young policy? I've been saying to people for a while that they should take the buy young thing with a pinch of salt. If a player is going to improve the team they will be bought. I think it's more that they will not fork out big money on older players. {Ed009's Note - he is a keeper. Considering the usual retiring age for his position its the equivalent of buying an outfield player in his early 20's and it doesn't matter nearly as much.}

15 Jul 2011 17:58:52
eds, why do you think martin kelly has not been tried at centre half.i think we could save ourselves 10-15 mil in the market. {Ed009's Note - because he is such a good right back I suppose. Perhaps we will see him move there next season.}

15 Jul 2011 17:58:49
ED not a rumour but do you think g johnson will be used more as a rm next season {Ed009's Note - I think he may well provide cover for the whole right hand side. He will certainly be tried out on the wing as it was Kenny's intention to do so last season, before injury got in the way.}

15 Jul 2011 17:58:09
Hi Eds, is there anything in these Alonso coming back rumours? If there isI don't see why we bought Adam. {Ed009's Note - I doubt we will see him make a return this year.}

15 Jul 2011 17:54:50
on lfc website, "10 facts about doni" usual things like first cap for brazil, different clubs he played for, appearances etc but fact #2 is "he shares his birthday with music artist Shaggy" best bit of info ive heard all day lol :D :D

15 Jul 2011 17:45:56
Kenyan gooner i dont know where you're getting your stats from lad maybe your dreaming them Downing 7 assists 7 goals from open play last season, bare faced lie pal check opta stats not wikipedia that you've probably edited yourself, i'll go and check the other 2 seasons you mention but i know he's had at least 10 assists over them 2 seasons and i'm being conserveative, but i'll come back to ya on that, 9 assists in 3 seasons lol, want a few agrees do we, boo hoo.Chalie Adam Rangers reject never given a run of games or a real chance their.The same manager who sold him for 500k wanted to buy him back for 18 times the amount he sold him far. Alex Mcleish at Villa tried and was willing to swallow his pride and admit he was wrong about and made a bid for him but Adam only had eyes for us. Jack Wilshire cannot shoot, has no shooting technique fact, his long range passing is limited to the distance of a 15 year old, none, good at a one/two now and again and gets stuck in a bit. Jordan Henderson created the third most chances, playing out of position on the right hand side, then your over rated creative midfielder Wilshire. Your a stats man go check.Stewart Downing got an awful lot of you's excited when you were linked with him, i read the posts on here, all over the moon till he turned you down flat before ya even asked.Put more crosses in the Prem in the last 3 seasons then any other player from any club.When Big Andy goes up with your keeper again with a cross from Downing, beats him to it and score's, dont worry you haven't got de ja vu, it happened last season when playing for Newcastle.Your keeping 2 players at the club who clearly want to leave. While i dont agree with what Graham Hunter said about the situation.The fact of the matter is that he's given you 7 years of great service to you and for all your C.L apps, has one Fa cup medal to show for it.Samir Nasri, if A.W keeps him and lets him walk at the end of the season for free for as he put it technicial reasons, he'll make you an even bigger laughing stock that your once great club has turned into.Please stop with lie's Kenyan Gooner, i'll even tag agree to your post, boost you ego a bit.We're in talks about getting Aqualani off the books with Fiorentina, we'll be giving them him and 3 to 4 mil for Vargas if not we'll sell him to them anyhow and have even more in the kitty then we've already got.Your the only team to come 4th in a 2 horse race fact and you've opened a big door to the C.League that we're gonna step right into, slamming it firmly struck right in your faces, never to be opened for 10 to 15 years with the crop of youngesters coming through like Jack i'll keep up with Theo anyday Robinson and Martin Kelly. Who's fans and players are the happiest, think the answer to that should tell you all you need to know about whats going on. Enough said now suck it up and keep quiet unless your gonna stop telling lies mate. Lancashire Red

i do like flanagan but kelly is 10x better if he didnt get injured he would've got in the team of the year FACT

15 Jul 2011 17:20:42
Hi eds, quality site

Hearing a few rumours that gerrard isnt doing so well and that there is a possibility he may be used at full back or centre half, to reduce the amount of running he has to do, have you guys heard anything??

I personally would have thought hed be a better holding midfielder

Cheers

Ginger lee {Ed009's Note - I don't think that is the case at all. If he were to be struggling with a full 90 minutes, it would make far more sense to me to use him in an impact capacity, playing 45 minutes just off the striker at full intensity and then bringing him off. That is what subs are for after all.}

I was initially a bit underwhelmed about our transfer targets but having time to think about it I'm rather happy with how we've gone about our business so far. We've mad astute signings, gems of the league whose attributes and contributions are somewhat underestimated.

I agree there are better players out there for the money of course but we are getting somewhere no doubt about it, and thats without other possible new signings

Very excited

15 Jul 2011 16:59:13
Now then Ed , i kind of agree with Macca that we won't need a left back , we have Aurelio (when fit), Johnson, Flanagan Kelly and Robinson , i think Insua is goodnight and i believe we will get a top centre half and maybe a back up striker , Dont be surprised to see Johnno being pushed up to right wing and used as a wing back when Kenny changes formations, To all those plantpots slagging off Macca go and take a powder, He doesnt need to give info mate sometimes he's right other times he is wrong , targets change , give him A BREAK , also i am getting worried about the standard of Liverpool supporters on this site , slagging the team , then Kenny, then DC then the owners it makes me sad , i have supported LFC through thick and thin home and away, season ticket holder in the day , seen some amazing days in my life , mate burnt most of me owl fellahs house down last time we won the league i was that blitzed , he wouldnt speak to me for six months cos he thought i was trying to do him in ha ha , loads of highs some lows hillsboro obviously, when Kenny left i was gutted then on the footy side of things we have been nearly men for twenty years going oh so close but doing a Devon Loch at the final hurdle , but i believe that LFC will be fighting for titles and Champions League very soon KENNY and Clarkey, the back room team we have, the players , the youth all is looking good , so stop moaning slagging fellow reds off , Embrace whats going on and be thankful look where we were last year Hodgson, the parasites and nearly administration.
instead of saying we should be getting him or him or slagging the Eds or Macca lets unite we are Liverpool FC noone in this world can ever come close to what we have look at the fans all over the world fanatical about LFC , We are Special , Unique and a Family , we have arisen from the ashes , , and laughed in the face of adversity now let us press onwards and upwards and regain our rightful place amongst the greatest , sorry Macca for all the abuse , i respect you la and thankyou for your insight bless ya loads Liam

1st ever post.
a would just like to comment on the squad and the type of signings that have came in since kenny has came back. I believe there is 1 key factor in all our signings as a whole. young hungry keen to play for liverpool and all work hard for there team mates. that with a mix of skill technique n time to improve in all of them and grow together with an already decent squad creates a team that will be up there fighting for fourth. after this 1 or 2 signings n continued improvement in our new signings youngsters coming through n the team as a whole a think u will find by the end of the 2012/2013 season we might just be champions or very close the future is very bright. the new owners for me are to thank for this with the appointment of kenny n support they have given. great site eds thanks to u a never get any work done haha

15 Jul 2011 16:54:11
Ed009 i think you are right in sayin johnson will be used left back, although i believe flannagan is ahead of kelly for the rb position as kelly was originally offered to sunderland as part of the henderson deal, which was declined by sunderland. What do you think will be kennys starting 11 ed? {Ed009's Note - What?! There is no way that Kelly was offered as part of the Henderson deal. I believe he will start all of the games for which he is fit.}

15 Jul 2011 16:52:36
Hey eds, do you think we should move for dann, or have we already bid?
YoungRed {Ed009's Note - we have not bid at this time, but I think we should and there is a fair chance we will.}

15 Jul 2011 16:49:13
As a red I am very happy with our signings so far, my brother in law, a blue nose, has very begrudgingly admitted that our squad is going to be devastating, due to our british, and prem experienced squad. Another point he made is that we have signed our players early on, and therefore have chance to gel them before the start of the season, giving our team the best opportunity to hit the ground running.
If a Blue nose can see this then surely the rest of the league can, for me, Arsenal to fall out of top 4 with us replacing them.

Long Live The King

15 Jul 2011 16:48:42
Ed so many people chat so much crap on this site , i.e i seen hugiain (spelling) on a tour of anfield blah blah. So when someone tells the truth no one actually believes them

Ed 02 can i ask what you thik dir kuyt postion will be next season will he ber a regular and will he be prefered over henderson? {Ed002's Note - I think Kuyt will be used as a striker rather than on the right, but he is obviously able to provide cover for both positions.}

15 Jul 2011 16:46:28
I hear the reason we are no longer chasing a full back is due to the capture of downing. We were interested in Enrique and cissokho to play a wingback role but with downing in place the leftback only needs to concentrate on defending. Robinson or Aurelio (if fit) can do that well enough. I reckon We will be looking for a CB tho. Aggers injury record is not great and skrtel isn't consistent or quick enough. Can't see us spending big on a striker and nor do we need to Kuyt can back up S&C. I expect a push for a R winger an if the right one doesn't come off then we'll go with Hendo. What do you think Eds?

15 Jul 2011 16:46:22
ED who is our main two CB at the moment? I want to say Kelly and Agger but I feel if you have Kelly than you need Carra to play and for him to shout at Kelly and mentor him. Agger is our best CB but is there any point giving him a start if he is going to be injured. -Mc {Ed009's Note - Agger is definitely there, then Carra and Skrtel together I would say.}

15 Jul 2011 16:43:51

Now we have virtually signed Downing who would I assume play on the left, If we could tie up the LB position(Flanagan v Chinese Side) In my opinion Glen Johnson may be the best winger who doesn't play as a winger in the Premiership seeing as we have a lot of cover at RB. My opinion on Glen Johnson is he is great going forward, and awful at defending. But if he is placed in the right wing, rather than right back position, his poor tackling ability will no longer get in the way of him becoming a Kop hero.what you think?

15 Jul 2011 16:23:27
Ed's do you think that KK and DC will eventually come out and state that LFC is done in the transfer market this summer. Or will the club keep quiet and just let rumors and speculation fly till the last day?---Jester--- {Ed002's Note - If they did come out and say that, would you believe them?}

15 Jul 2011 16:18:35
great site Eds
Not a rumour but a question to the eds

how are the club funding the transfers?

I know we have received near 60 million (both jan and summer) in sales and spent around £100m (since dalglish arrived)which therefore gives us a net spend around 40m. We have not finished buying yet, how much more can FSG afford for transfers this summer.

thanks

j {Ed009's Note - I think they will be willing to fund enough for one or two more players who are affordable. At that point we will have to sell all the unwanted players if we wish to buy again.}

15 Jul 2011 16:17:26
Hi eds, if were looking for a cb im surprised no ones mentioned shawcross. hes young and will b a great a great cb. wot r your thoughts. {Ed009's Note - personally I don't think he is good enough. He is not a bad player but Dann is better and would be cheaper.}

15 Jul 2011 16:13:03
what was damien commoli doing on the asian tour, , hes a suit and tie suit and ties should sign the checks and let the football to the football men.. he should of stayed behind making sure we got players signed asap an observation.... also pool need a class left back another winger after downing...a centre back and a striker in my opinion.. and hopefuly koncesky is the start of the deadwood going out of the club..in the king we trust:)

15 Jul 2011 16:11:06
i thought john w henry was trying to cut wage bills now speculated 60-75k a week for downing whats goin on {Ed009's Note - if you think that 60,000 pounds a week is a lot for a top player you are living a long time ago.}

15 Jul 2011 16:10:41
Eds, why all the talk about us signing a quality cb, i don't see the need this summer because Carragher is obviously going to start and I also expect Agger to, but even if one of them is injured we have Skrtel to do a fine job there as well. {Ed009's Note - I am not sure Carra is in a position to start every game next season. It certainly isn't ideal for him to do so anymore.}

15 Jul 2011 16:09:38
Macca: We are not interested in Bastos

Eds: We made a bid for Bastos

Macca: We are not looking for a LB

Eds: We enquired about clichy and cissokho

Does anyone else see a pattern occuring here??

If this isnt damning evidence that Macca is clueless I dont know what is. {Ed009's Note - who said we had made an enquiry for Cissokho? I only said we were interested.}

15 Jul 2011 16:05:25
A left back is not being sought probably means one has been found and a deal has been thrashed out.

15 Jul 2011 15:56:27
Ed do u know any website that shows the salaries the players are currently on.

And also if u know the wages we ohhered for these players. Suarez, carroll, hendo, adam, downing. {Ed002's Note - No I don't and any such data would be misleading without understanding better how the salaries are paid and who they are paid to (e.g. limited companies) and this varies on a player-by-player basis. I can for example cite examples of one current EPL player who is paid via his home in Monaco, and I can think of many players who have set up companies abroad and are paid for services through those businesses. I also recall one player who was paid in tax free oil paintings at one time. Others have complex trusts - although these are frowned upon in the UK now. For the Liverpool players, a number (including Cole and Jovanovic) have their signing on fees paid through their salaries.}

15 Jul 2011 16:03:26
Christian Poulsen to sign for Praze FC in Cornwall. His wages will be discussed, but he will definitely get a pasty after the game

15 Jul 2011 16:02:59
Wasn't Honda a Hodgson target? I don't recall our interest being maintained once DC came on board, but I may be wrong. I've never been aware of any interest from KD. Happy to be proven wrong.

i wish people would stop giving Macca crap. he's only passing on what he knows, he has no control over deals falling through or players not agreeing terms etc. i feel its unfair all the sarky comments and flack he's getting, i personally don't know why he bothers, i'd have well given up posting to ungrateful people if i was him. Cut the man a bit of slack

15 Jul 2011 15:50:41
with regards to Hona, I would say that 1). Blackburn bidding 12mill will not be enough, 2). Honda would not fancy a move to Blackburn, and 3). This effort might kick start other clubs interest in the player.

15 Jul 2011 15:50:39
why has their been no news of stewart downing a fee was agreed 2 days ago yet of official website no medical or personal terms agreed yet wats goin on {Ed009's Note - it is all in hand I am sure. The medical was last night I believe.}

Stupid question but what is the issue with meireles? Probably ou best player last year and the club want shot of him? What's going on? Something to do with his wages? Please respond....... {Ed002's Note -He claims verbal agreements were made and that they have not been honored.}

15 Jul 2011 15:36:46
What i can't understand from the negs out there...as someone mentioned earlier we are buying other teams best players...not all the best players around play for foreign / top 4 clubs. Look at the squad we're buying if we can get a load of players who speak the same language (well if they can understand KK) they can blend better and work better together. This isn't football manager guys...it's common sense

Once we get downing I think a cb is all that is needed. I personally think with gerrard, Henderson, Lucas, meirieles, cole, Adam, downing and aquilani we have the strongest midfield in the division. Kuyt to support Carroll and Lucas up front means we are sorted there. A strong centre back to provide competition to agger, Carra and skrtel. I would prefer sakho or hummels for around 15m. Getting excited about this coming season. With the players we could adopt almost any formation and change to suit the opposition.

We're in the market for an asian, that's for sure. Whether we'll sign someone in Jan or now I don't know, but he will be young and asian. We need it to expand revenue and increase shirt sales, etc.

That's why Comolli is looking for chinese talent.

Whoever posted that the Aguero transfer is impossible due to his wage demands is wrong, the transfer is possible, and may happen as Juve had agreed wages of around 120k a week with Aguero, they just couldnt agree the fee with Atletico, I have taken this snippet from Aguero's agents statement:

"Juventus had convinced Sergio with an offer of 7.5m in wages, but they were not able to convince Atletico, " the source disclosed.

"Given that Atletico are not willing to give any discounts on the 45m clause, Juventus are now focused on Rossi."

I'm not 100% sure if Liverpool will look at Aguero this summer, but certain things are facts: We 'enquired' in January for Aguero, just like we did with Adam. Aguero is a fan of Liverpool and of England in general. Maxi is a close friend of Aguero, and Liverpool will be short of a pacey striker with trickery if Suarez gets injured....... so the likleyhood surely can't be too low....especially considering this revelation regarding wages? what do you think eds? surely all these things add up to make a case?

Andy R - 'Have Faith fellow Reds..' {Ed009's Note - I think it is quite simply unlikely. The flaw in your argument is that you say "if Suarez gets injured." There is no chance Aguero will want to be on the bench much at all, and we won't pay even 120,000 pounds a week (it will be more I still believe) for a squad player.}

Hi ed.
Samsaliva from KL, Malaysia. Wanted to share something that shows how much we Malaysian LFC fan love LFC and how much we hate Man Utd.
I hope ed will share this with all the LFC fans.

This happened yday when a stupid Man Utd fan came to the Bukit Jalil stadium wearing a Man Utd jersey, and it was a training session for LFC team.
The LFC fans forced this stupid fan to remove his stinking Man Utd jersey. Lol.
Here is the link to the news.

Thanks ed. Can't wait to see LFC play tmrw.

Eds/Macca/anyone, what is the situation with Aurelio? Could he have proved an improvement in his fitness to shelve any new left backs being purchased?.... I hope so personally... As I think he is a top quality player when fully match fit (I know we haven't seen it that many times). As far as I'm aware (could be wrong as haven't seen the first friendly) he hasn't travelled with the first team?

There's only one position in the team thet we have to fill that would make the biggest difference and that seperates us from a top 4 position and leafue champions. And that position is center back.
We need a sami hyppia like rock at the back. I feel yes we can improve in other positions but not by much. And we have plenty attacking options and can score loads of goals... The problem is the leak at the back. And its not caused by the lb position. Its a center back leak.
I'll be more than happy seeing liverpool sign just doni and a center back for the rest of the window...
Thats the key to the title.
Ed thoughts?

ed what are we going to do with all our midfielders? we have a huge list of varying qualities.
Gerrard
Aquaman
Henderson
Lucas
Poulson
Adam
Spearing
Shelvey
Maxi
Jovanivic (Spelling)
Kuyt
Cole
who would you start with and in what formation. {Ed009's Note - I would play a combination of a 4-4-2 and a 4-3-3. When playing 4-3-3 I'd use what I'd consider a dream combination of Gerrard, Adam and Lucas. In 4-4-2 I'd play Gerrard and Adam in easy games where we need to pass through those teams that are more than willing to park the bus, using predominantly Gerrard and Lucas for away games and tough fixtures. I think Henderson might play mainly as a right midfielder, as Kenny is a fan of playing with one out and out winger in a 4-4-2 and one more central player who tucks in during defence. Hi Eds,

With regards to getting rid of the deadwood, do Liverpool officially register these players as "available" or what ? or do we just wait for offers. What I mean is that are the club being proactive in selling players they do not want ? As these players are drawing big salaries but have no future at the club and shifting them wil save money and ake mean a extra player can be bought with the savings,

Which palyers would you Eds like to leave the club out of interest ?

Thanks {Ed009's Note - I am sure that the club are doing everything they can to get rid of the players, but it is hard when their agents are saying how they "will be playing for Liverpool next season." There is little more they can do other than make their availability plain. I think it is likely we will see most of Meireles, Aquilani, Poulsen, El Zhar, Degen, N'Gog and Jovanovic leave this window and I would have no complaints if they did, even though I have a soft spot for the first two. Cole could also leave, but only if a good offer is received as I feel he could be a good 4th striker, to play just off the other forward, and a useful player to have on the bench.}

imo i would love to see the pairing of cissokho and bastos as im sure many would join... and from what few sources i have i understand enrique qas originally number one target but the high price tag and sketchy preformances towards the end of the season we have switched are attention to cissokho as baines but baines remains very unlikely... and we know bastos wants moves to turin but if juventus are succesfull in landing teves their attention towards bastos will have died unless there a few sales of big players in the club which is unlikely...

so basically what im trying to say is that the bastos and cissokho duo isnt that unlikely to be lining up for Liverpool..

@eds...With all these midfielders we have and talk of wingers and forwards coming in. Where do u see Kuyt fitting in? Surely he will never play right midfield again with henderson/gerrard and even maxi will fill that spot ahead of him cos they can provide better crosses.. At the moment he has a place a bck up striker to carroll and suarez. But if another forward comes in. Regardless of his workrate i really can't see him featuring on a regular basis.. What are your thoughts?
Ynwa Yas {Ed009's Note - I believe he will be back up striker next season, and he will be used relatively sparingly as a squad player. I am not entirely sure we will see another striker come in, not a senior one anyway.}

We have a fantastic midfield and forward line but our problems are at the back as the game in china showed, Carragher and Kyriakos are too slow and Agger too lightweight We need 2 quality Centre halves the young full backs will be fine.

ST-Nolan Roux-8m

I'm sick of this ridiculous "paying over the odds" rhetoric:

We bought Newcastle's best player for £35m, Sunderland's best player for £16m, Villa's best player for a similar fee and Blackpool's main man for around £7m. Meanwhile, we sold what some considered to be our best player for £50m, and would be disgusted by a £35m, £16m or £7m bid for Luis Suarez this summer. Get real, we are buying other teams' best players for prices we would laugh at if offered for ours. It is all relative...

15 Jul 2011 13:31:34
Downing, Hendo, Adam interchangeable during a game, with the holding ability of Lucas and Spearing, we will have more than enough movement to trouble any team. Stop moaning about the prices, Hendo is a bargain at 16m if he plays for the next 5-10 years, Downings ability isn't based on pace, which you lose with age, so again 16m is reasonable for the best crosser of a ball since beckham.
And as stated before if you buy too many players how are the kids going to come through?

Why are people saying gerrard is going as part of us signing this player that player etc. why kenny is manager he will not be going anywhere. i think he will retire at liverpool and then go on coaching staff.

if hodgson was still the manager i think gerrard and many of others would of gone but not now because they can see how kenny wants to play football and can see the club is on the up. and with a few more signings. i think we can challenge for the premiership this season.

what do you think ed

15 Jul 2011 11:53:33
Carroll - 35m (worth 20m)
Suarez - 22m (worth 30m)
Henderson - 20m (worth 12m)
Adam - 8m
Downing - 20m (worth 14m)

Looks like a real marquee signing (in quality not price) will not be signed now that we have over spent on some of these average players. Our owners have spent alot already on what we have so I doubt they are going to want to spend more big money on other players. We have infact made Downing our marquee signing, which is a joke. So all you people saying "who cares what we pay, your not paying this money so why does it matter to you", well because now we are likley to be unable to buy some real quality players to add to this average looking starting line-up. yes it looks slightly better than what we had in May but still no where near being able to challenge for the title.
I love this club and just hope I am proved wrong by these players next year, but I just can't see us competing with Man city, Chelsea and Scum with the quality of players they are targeting (sneijder, falcao, Sanchez etc)

Please do not tell me to "go and support them then" because I just want the best for the club and it is my opinion.

Eds, I just think we should remember to be thankful that John Henry is as passionate about sport and about success as he is.

If he was only thinking about profit margins, we would probably have to wait several seasons and slowly build a squad to challenge for the top four.

But we've now spent nearly 50million this summer, and are still in the market for more players to improve the squad further.
He's really putting his faith in KK and the team, and putting his money- and an awful lot of it- where his mouth is. And you have to respect him for that.

This huge backing for these new players, and KK's team leadership, means we are straight back into the mix for the CL next season, and lots of people are taking us seriously as challengers for the top spot.

15 Jul 2011 12:40:15
So we are wasting yet more money.
I dont care what anyone says lfc are spending way over the odds on very average players and it will all back fire next season. wait & see.

Lfc fans that think we will be a force next season are deluded. we are being left behind by the teams around us

Ed, just to pick up on Dawson's earlier post, KK is assembling a squad of players who are technically excellent but at the same time are athletic and can play pass and move with a British high tempo game. Where possible preference is being given to suitable British payers even if it means paying £5m over the odds for them. Those youngsters who have already made the breakthrough such as Kelly, Flanagan and Robinson have these qualities in abundance. In contrast players such as Aquilani and Meireles are technically gifted but do not have the strength or high tempo game to consistently perform throughout a premiership season. Suarez on the other hand has this in abundance. Kenny is getting the basics right. Old whisky nose and company are looking nervously over their shoulder as they see a reinvigorated LFC tidal wave rushing towards them . And I just have to mention once again that we have a bucket load of youngsters. Few have yet grasped the magnitude of Rafa's real legacy which is being nurtured by Segura and Borrell. Happy days. "Tottenham are the latest side to express an interest in FC Basel midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri - who would cost about £5m."

If this is true (taken from BBC Sport), we should look at this fella, as hugh potential ?

I was impressed with Aqua during his first game, didnt put a pass wrong or lose the ball, i for one wouldnt sell him. Hoping he keeps in KK books.

Meireles could be sacrificed i feel if a bid comes in.

My opinion would be people with lack of pace need to be moved on now

Maxi, Poulsen, Aurelio, Kyrgiakos, Degen, El Zhar, Jovanovic, this lot are past it, MAXI id let return home now DOWNING looks imminent.

J.COLE/INSUA you'd have another look at in my opinion during pre-season unless offers come in.

Still need a good LB/CB/RW/ and STRIKER in my eyes.

I mentioned Downing was a target back in Jan, nothing has changed..

The reason i confirmed again today is not to receive a pat on the back but just a bit fed up reading the same questions to the eds, eg is he a smokescreen etc..

With regards Bastos, i have no idea.. Maybe if they do not get Downing and Enrique he may be a target but they remain first choice..

Cheers

Macca

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was never common knowledge in Jan when i first mentioned it..

Funnily enough do you know why it is common knowledge now, because that is who they want to sign..

Should not take a genius to work that out...

I can start making names up and that would not be common knowledge, do you know why? Because they would not be trying to sign them..

Hi Eds, I was just wondering who else you think we are likely to sign now we have Downing (great buy if you ask me) and the Doni deal nears completion. Do we need another striker as a lot of people are saying? Cheers {Ed002's Note - A left back, central defender and a striker. But players need to be sold or moved on as well.}

15 Jul 2011 12:02:16
i'm probably in a minority but i don.t think we need any more players apart from maybe a striker who is better than Dando Ngog. I think we have enough centre halves to cope with anything the premier league has to throw at us. Aurelio is class when fit and robinson and johnson can cover if needed. I know folk would like another winger for the right but i can't see KK being all too concerned as we have Downing. In our glory days kenny liked one out and out winger in barnes and hougton would took in slightly on the other side. I see this happening again this season. Likewise with the full backs-one bombs on while the other sits and covers centre halves being split. Anyone else agree or disagree? Eds thoughts also welcome

15 Jul 2011 11:39:08
Hi Ed,

Just wondered if you heard any rumours about us not looking at any left backs? Can't help but think that, after hearing Comolli talk about not recruiting players in positions that could block a good youngster's progress, signing a left back would be folly. Johnson performed admirably last term and we still have Aurelio who on the rare occasions he plays remains a class act. However the true boon is in Flanagan and Robinson who have been little stars for me each and every time they've played. Why would we want to block their progress to the first team? Especially when the quality available in the market is so poor? What options are there? Cissokho who by all accounts was absolutely crud last year and whose performances explain Lyon's willingness to sell, Enrique who is defensively liable? The only top option would be Baines but that can only be considered a pipe dream currently. Surely we should/or already are concentrating on recruiting the top quality centre half to partner Carra that we've lacked since Hyypia (I don't include Agger because of injuries). What do you think to this idea?

Great site by the way, thanks for your fantastic work {Ed002's Note - We know the club has been looking at l;eft backs though.}

Hi eds,
more of an observation rather than a rumour: I really feel that we do need an extra striker. Maybe not someone like Aguero or Higuain, but a backup with pace and creativity. Say if Suarez gets injured, a front two of carrol and kuyt lacks speed and flair. I feel we need a young, promising (preferably cheap) 4th striker who can offer these things. maybe that is why there has been more interest in jeffren, i know some of the eds are not too fond of him but i think he would be a good and quite cheap option.
As I said before, just a thought, but I don't have any proof to back it up, just what i have read in the papers.
YNWA {Ed002's Note - There may be interest but he appears to be moving to Sevilla. I don't see him wanting to sit on the bench at Anfield.}

15 Jul 2011 11:12:07
Has Degen moved on yet? I thought he was out of contract but his name still on the squad list.

On this spending £105m, in reality we've got a net spent of around £50m, when you take into account the money recouped from the Babel and Torres deals, the media seem to have forgotten about those transfers.

It's clear that we're not finished in the market yet, and I can see us bringing in another 4 players Probably a leftback - Cissokho or Enrique, centreback - Dann, central midfielder - Moussa Sissoko and an attacker - no idea.

When the players return from Asia, I think there clearout will really speed up with the likes of ElZhar, Soto, Poulsen, Aquilani, N'Gog and more being moved on.

when do you think we are going to put a bid in for Cissokho? i think he is the perfect player to fill the left back spot, he would be the best one since Riise left, no doubt. 15 Jul 2011 10:26:08
Ed's>>>> please post this in rumours

The one thing that keeps coming up on here is why we would buy him if we have him

Correct me if I'm wrong but one of the major factors in our lack of success has been depth in the squad. If we look at the top 3 in the league last season that was one thing they had in common. It's all well and good saying we have (FOR INSTANCE)
2CB or 3CM but if your 3rd choice CM isn't of the same quality as the first choice then consistency of winning games then becomes an issue.
Personally I say if KK can, then get as many proven players in the squad as you can, and back up the depth in the squad. I know some of you will bark at me for this post but it seems to me there's too much negativity over players being looked at if the position been covered by a recent signing.
Based on the fact that Aguero or his agent has had contact with Comolli then there's enough evidence to say there's a chance of him coming.

15 Jul 2011 10:14:38
Apparently Henderson and Adam where brought in because gerrard is finished.... He did his groin in again in training the other day and was given an injection and told not to move for 10 days. He's expected to play around 15 games this season if he's lucky. Kenny apparently wants to play a 433 attacking formation with a front three of downing Suarez Carroll. Unlike Benitez dalglish will insist we play attacking football and try to win every game by outscoring the opposing team

15 Jul 2011 09:38:04
i am reading all this negative reports of liverpool not making the top 4 and they dont have the quality to challenge for the title. roy evans the no. 1 culprit. kenny will surprise them.its how you get your team to play even with average players.MAKE THEM EAT THEIR WORDS KENNY. BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS.

15 Jul 2011 10:37:16
I am sick of people saying we paid over the top for Carroll. Is it not true that Liverpool told Chelsea that Torres would cost them Carroll's fee plus 15million?

Sure Carroll isnt worth 35mil but the fact remains that we got to offload Torres, get our replacement and pocket 15million. I would say good on Newcastle for sticking it to the Blues who ended up paying well to much for a broken Torres.

15 Jul 2011 10:19:06
I love the speculation but it seems clear to me that the only players we'll buy this summer are young but proven premiership players who know what its all about and can integrate quickly.

I think thats a pretty good policy as to where we are at the moment.

The January window is when we might see some of wilder names come through and we know where we are in the league. Exception might be the left back thats desperately needed if Clichy (already lost), Baines (unlikely), Enrique (who knows) or any other potential British-based targets - Izaquirre (?) don't come off.

15 Jul 2011 10:11:00
Just for a bit of fun, who do you think would win out of a team of British Liverpool players against a team of Foreigh Liverpool players, seem teams below:

British: Doni (British for the day)

Kelly Carra Wilson Johnson

Henderson Adam Gerrard Downing

Cole

Carrol

Foreign:

Reina

Agger Kyriagos Skrtel Aurelio

Kuyt Miereles Lucas Maxi

Pacceco Suarez

On a more serious note this does not even include:

Robinson
Flannagan
Wisdom
Shelvey
Spearing
Sterling
Coady

That is a lot of talent and a lot of British talent, the future certainly looks brighter

Re. Some of the Joe Cole banter.

Cole's exit is by no means cut and dried. He spent the vast majority of last season injured/carrying knocks/lacking fitness. Hence the very sporadic nature of his cameo apps under the King.

If the right offer comes in, we may well sell, but his fitness record means that he doesn't command the transfer fee that a player of his ability would usually do. Personally, I think he's be better off trying to engineer a move to France or Italy but I don't think he's that keen on going abroad.

What we are looking for are technically excellent players that can play a high tempo game, hence the current bias towards English-based players (technical coaching in the UK has improved greatly in recent years although it still has a long way to go).

yes i know this is by a united fan, and yes i realise that there are a few jabs at liverpool especially benitez:) but as a liverpool fan i believe that this article is very well written and worth a good read- it is definitely as relevant to us as it is for them

RustyNigel

Could fate really be such a cruel mistress as to allow United to finally overtake Liverpool in the number of titles won, only to see them catch up a mere season later?
Surely not I hear you cry almost incredulously in unison, yet as I ve learnt over the years as a United fan, its more often complacency that leads to our defeats, rather than lack of ability.
In 92 we were sure to beat Forest at home and West Ham away, in 1995 Blackburn werent good enough 1998, Arsenal would never catch us- just ask Fred Done, in 2003 we d put Arsenal back in their place and didn t need to worry about them again, Roman s billions? Pah Nothing to fear there.
You get my point. It s been too easy over the years to dismiss any sort of threat to United, with the disdain many of us believe they deserve, but let s face some facts as a certain Spanish waiter once said, United don t always have things our way, despite what we may sing.
This pre-season has almost been a gift from baby Jesus, United have bought three top class young players while our rivals have done very little and in some cases gone backwards. With Chelsea s best midfielder out for several months- sorry but it is a massive boost for us as much as it is a loss for them, Arsenal struggling to keep hold of their players when they also need to buy a goalkeeper, striker, defender and a midfielder it s easy to feel somewhat overjoyed at how the Summer has begun. Then there s our noisy neighbours facing the potential loss of a certain Argentinian, who somehow hasn t turned out to be as loyal as they thought, ooh the irony.
Only one team seems to be bothering to try and assemble the sort of squad that can really challenge United next season and unfortunately it happens to be our less educated friends from down the M62.
Liverpool have picked up where they left off in the January transfer window by spending big. They were fortunate in January in the fact that Chelsea were willing to pay over the odds for a player who looks like he d rather spend an evening having his nails pulled out than he would playing football.
This Summer though, Liverpool have dipped into their own pockets yeah, I know instead of the nearest bin - to spend money on the likes of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing.
Henderson I m not a big fan of to be perfectly honest and this isn t my Mancunian tinted spectacles working overtime, I ve said ever since we were linked to him, I felt he was a poor man s Michael Carrick. Adam is a player I did admire last season though, I even wrote a post advocating a United bid for him as I genuinely felt we could use his dead ball ability not just from free kicks and penalties but corners which have been a problem for us for some time now.
Given the choice of Downing or Ashley Young, I d pick Young but that doesn t mean Downing is a complete waste of space, in fact he may well rise to the occasion at a bigger club.
The point is Liverpool have three players who have shown they can perform in the Premier League to a high standard- albeit rarely in the case of Henderson, while all United s other rivals have done very little.
More importantly Kenny Daglish seems to have some form of plan for getting players who could benefit Andy Carroll the most. Carroll s aerial threat will be utilised nicely by Adam and Downing, while Luis Suarez could feed off the knockdowns, not an all too terrible attack if we re disgustingly honest.
Add to the mix the youngsters who were given a chance at the back end of last season and did a decent job, plus the experience of the barely comprehensible Jamie Carragher and title throwing Steven Gerrard, not to mention arguably the League s best keeper and you have the makings of a title challenging side.
It s easy for me to rant about how Downing wouldn t get in our side or Carroll will probably be in prison by the time the season starts but I ve been equally as flippant about our threats in the past and sometimes been left with an omelette on my face.
Don t forget in 1995 Jason Wilcox wasn t good enough for our bench, in 2002 the Arsenal defence was past it, in 2010 Chelsea were no longer a threat.
It s easy to dismiss Liverpool and would be very enjoyable but just for now I ll err on the side of caution and say while I still believe it s United s title to lose, the new arrivals at Anfield plus the galvanising effect a certain Scottish manager has had on the club, shouldn t be ignored just yet.
Am I worrying too much about a team that ll struggle to make the top four? Is it City and Chelsea we should be focusing on? Will Liverpool ever win the title again?
Feel free to comment suggest and abuse below.

Why don't we just pay the 15m for enrique? We pay what everyone else asks for.

Newcastle wanted 35m for carroll they got it.
Sunderland wanted 18m for henderson they got very close to it

Villa wanted 20m they got it.
Ajax wanted 23m they got within a million of it.

So why not pay the 15m? With the exception of suarez who seems to be worth his pricetag, we overpaid for the rest and like people keep saying, if that's the going rate.

Before you all get carried away thinking downing is the answer to all our wing woes let's not forget pennant, a player who (y far) completed most crosses in premiership before we bought him. Give stew adam carroll and dalglish some breathing space by not expecting them to storm the league next year.

We are at least another year away from winning prem as we are still work in progress. We should be aiming for a decent fa cup run and 4th place. Be realistic please guys.

BTW I see the people who doubted my info about hamsik will have to eat their words as he is linked with man u today.

Whilst we appear to be going in the right direction having made some cracking signings, if we intend to push for top 4/ title we have to provide cover in order to avoid the Greek/ Ngog selection. They are both useless, the Greeks got 20 mins in him then tiredness kicks in and his concentration diminishes resulting in some horror story mistakes. Ngog just doesn't cut it, no pace/ strength, can't hold up the ball, when his backs to goal and he recieves the ball he runs into a cul-de-sac, majority of moves break down when he gets the ball. Any title challenging team would not have players of this sort anywhere near the first team. They have to go.

What do you guys think of late bid for Yuri Zhirkov....the guy is a real attacker and is better than Enrique.

Keep Zhirkov, Insua and Robinson...I don't think we need any more backups. Aurielo could cover up left winger position as and when required.

We should definatly swap up Ngog for Striker....I still fancy a move for Ninis....very young and lots of experience could be an addition.

LFC forever....(and by the way fingers crossed for away game at Arsenal Downings cross and Carroll's header....but lately no dreams so far about any LFC games) {Ed009's Note - I'm not sure Zhirkov wants to be in England any more. He has not had a good time so far. What's more Chelsea will be looking for a lot of money for a player who didn't succeed too well when he did play.}

Dann in to replace Skrtel, who will be sold. Soto will stay for one more year until Coady and Wisdom are better prepared.

people moaning about how much players r costing, , , , stop moaning will yas, u were moaning were weren't spending enough only last year, , , , also value and price goes up and up all the time, remember when players cost 10k+ then 100k+ then couple of million now 10s of millions and thats for players like dowing who completed most crosses in the league for last 3 years, the sam player who made more assists than modric, bale, giggs, valencia, young, lennon, walcott, wilshire, malouda, , , , it will keep going up and up untill a cap is put on transfers or a system is made up to valuate players properly by their stats how they performed all season and so on....

Why is every one so quick to be selling Joe Cole when in 2006 world cup he was England best player and until his injury he was a regular at 3 times in recent years champions chelsea. He is easily one of Englands most naturally talented footballers on his day and with a run in the team would completely remove any need for a right winger to be bought in. I personally believe Joe should be kept and with kenny as boss he could easily be made into something like the player he can be with his talent, just look at meireles, poor before Kenny, amazing since Kenny. We should definatly keep hold of Cole and give him untill atleast January (fitness prevailing)
On the signing front, it seems ridiculous that everyone feels the need to go "my AMAZING source who is NEVER wrong claims were getting Enrique or Cissoko, Dann, Mata, Aguero, Park Chu Young and Bastos, these are names which have been mentioned atleast 100 times each on this site, so everyone must have the same source... This site. We will sign who we sign and they will fit into the squad Kenny thinks we need to progress. In Kenny We Trust.

AGENT: POULSEN STAYING PUT
‎Christian Poulsen's agent has ruled out a move to Copenhagen, saying his client will stay at Liverpool.

Uncertainty surrounds Poulsen's future after he failed to make an impact on his debut season with the Reds

The Denmark international is contracted until June 2013

However his agent, Jorn Bonnesen, has dismissed such rumours, insisting the 31-year-old is staying put on Merseyside.

Is Pollsen on alot of money here at anfield.Is he already in semi - retirement mode at liverpool. If he didn;t turn up to training would anyone notice?

15 Jul 2011 01:47:30
Newcastle LNK Jose Enrique, spainsh has 12 months left on his contract and doesn;t want to resign with Newcastle.

Arsenal, Liverpool and maybe few foreign teams may want him. But i can't see a bidding war for him. He was purchased in 2007 for 6.5million from villareal.

Arsenal want something special for the champsion league. Like Leyton Baines. Everton have to deal on one of their players and it is likely to be Baines. So he should be going to Arsenal.

That should leave us free to get Enrique for £8million. I can't see Mike Ashely raping lfc over a average player. Newcastle may make him play out his contract.

HI ED
Papers are saying that kenny has spent 105 million he may well have but he sold i wanted to leave for lots of money bags torres and babel so that was 57.5 million. so by my reconing he has actually spent 49. ish million

35m carrol
swarez 25 ish
adam 7 million
henderson 20
downing 20
so thats actually 107 milion

with meireles going for about 13-15
aqulani 10 million
poulson free or 2m
ngog 5 million
maxi 3-5million
jovancic free
konchesky gone for 1.5 million

so asuming we offload all of them that gives us close to 30-40 million so we would of actually only spent about 10 million net

i have been reading this site for years when there was no club rumor pages and you had to read for ages to find Liverpool rumors. My favorite website. great job guys. But i wish people would stop with these ridiculous rumors of us signing Higuian, Aguero, Nasri, Neymar, etc. We will not be spending 45 million on one player that we currently are not desperate for. We now have a great squad capable of competing with the top clubs next season. Look how well we did in the second half of the season. Now with Downing supplying Carol and Suarez up front and all the options we have in midfield we are going to be a real handful for any team in England. If we can sign a good left back ( hopefully cissoko), a young 3rd striker, my choice would be sturidge, ( him and Carol could be great for England in a few years as well ) and one more winger ( A Johnson or Jeffren would fit our criteria ) we would have an amazing squad of players who all want to play and die for our shirt. Guys forget about the transfer fees we are paying, its not coming out of our pockets and if kenny thinks this is who we need then lets believe in him and the team. For 10 years i have been saying this is going to be our season but this is the most optimistic i have ever been. Im not saying we are going to win the league but at least we have a realistic chance.

Yassine Benzia - Olympique Lyon - 16 is hot stuff.

Frenchman Yassine Benzia stars for France U-17's

French starlet Yassine Benzia (16) was the hero for France world cup

Benzia, who plays for Lyon's U-19 squad, has already scored five goals in the tournament and is the second best scorer of the championship, tied with Brazil's Ademilson.

The youngster had begun his career at US Quevilly and later signed with Lyon after an impressive performance in a national championship match against Lens.

Over the past season (his first at Lyon), Benzia had played at Under-17 level, storming the league and scoring 36 goals throughout the championship, which had obviously marked him as a strong candidate for a starting role in this World Cup held in Mexico.

Benzia is the only representative from Olympique Lyon in the French U17 squad, but he is certainly the most notable player on the squad this tournament, showing excellent promise for the years to come.

Benzia holds excellent positioning skills and a good eye for scoring goals, able to be in the right place in the right time in order to pass or shot the ball into the net.

liverpool should buy him {Ed001's Note - surely Yessil would have to be the target from the U17s? He was a bit special.}

Downing 20 million ? Really ? No disrespect to the lad, he's decent, but doesn't deserve to be a red.
There is far better players than downing for that price
I love kenny like we all do but i think he has a bit of a fascination with buying british. I know its all good and ive wanted more british players in the team for a while now but come on 35 million for carrol, 16 rising to 20 for henderson and now downing I can understand henderson with his age and time to develop but downing is 28 soon 20 million pffftttttt {Ed001's Note - Downing is not 27 until until the 22nd of July, it is quite a while before he turns 28.}

Just wondering if i'm the only one that wants ARG to beat URU in the Copa America quarters, My reasoning is that I want Suarez back ASAP.

Also I'm thinking about boycotting SKYSPORTNEWS, they put "Liverpool agree downing fee for 20 mill" as the headline then they just copy paste from the LFC website the announcement as the article, which doesn't mention anything about 20mill so how did they get 20. {Ed001's Note - surely the fact that Murdoch owns a big chunk of Sky should be enough to ensure we all boycott all its channels? Taken from Billy Bragg's official website:

"Billy Bragg's brand new song 'Never Buy The S**' takes aim at the whole sorry story of News International's systemic failure to understand that there are limits to legitimate news gathering. Billy concludes that neither press, police nor politicians come out of this scandal looking good. Only the people of Liverpool can hold their heads high.

Their refusal to buy The S** in the wake of that paper's unfounded accusation that Liverpool FC supporters robbed the dead victims of the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989 shows that not only do the scousers have principles, but they are also determined to hold onto them in an often cynical world."

It seems the rest of the world is waking up to what the Liverpool fans have known for a long time. Hopefully this growing consciousness will mean JTF96 will be forthcoming. Check out the free download if you haven't already.

On a lighter note, I would love to see Cissokho come in at leftback, I think he'd compliment Downing very well.

I dont think we should write off as Gerrard yet as an injury prone. Last season was the first one since 2003/4 that he'd not made at least 30 prem apps. Last season made 21 but that could easily be a one off. My opinion is is because he carried the team for so long on his own most of the time, when he was out for a week or 2 it seemed 2 or 3 times as long because we missed him so much. I think for the first time he's seeing real ambition at the club and i think he'll be motivated to show Charlie{who i'm over the moon)who the boss still is. They'll be driving each other on coming out with some very special performances. This talk of phasing him out slowly, coming off the bench that i've heard and read from a minority. Come on, if theirs any player that deserves the to be given the benefit of the doubt its him, like i said its a minorty but while everyone is on a stats buzz today Stevie G's stack up a lot better then the perception he seems to have with some fans. Last thing, i was keen on giving Aqualani a season to see if could hack in the Prem, but after his half in China were his body language made Torres look like he was on valium. If a player has made it that clear he doesn't want to be at a club by his actions on the pitch, that defo took the biscuit. Constantly talking and moaning to himself with his sour puss of a Didn't interact with any of the players, just get shut of this guy, he wants out and he's no good for us re of talent. Sorry to crush your hearts fellow reds, but Daniel Sturridge will NOT be signing. There may be an interest but Sturridge has clearly stated he will leave Chelsea if he isn't guaranteed a place in the first team and to my understanding Suarez and Carroll aren't budging. Top site Eds, well addictive.
Been reading a lot of nonsense on here recently, the only Sensible facts come from the Eds (apart from a few knowledgable Redmen).
I will now let you into a little secret of mine. My source is a neighbour and friend of a very senior player.
The agents of Raul, Aqua, Poulson are working overtime to get them new clubs, hence the mind games in the press. Expect KK to bring in the following:-
Cissokho- 13m
Dann - 10 rising to 12m
That will be all during this window. Quite a window for us i think. We have come a long way in under a year

Ed could liverpool look to buy lukaku as a back up striker? {Ed009's Note - why not eh? I'll have a whip round, see if we can get Neymar thrown in! I'm not so sure, joking aside, that it is likely at all.}

I believe Kenny Dalglish came back for bigger deals than just downing. Maybe he has another lined up? I don't believe the Higuain rumours.. we don't need another striker but maybe hes going to try sign a Left back because I believe that is the only place we need to fix. [Maybe another Right Mid but I believe we should play Hendo there].

T-Dog.

Marko Marin is available for under 10m. Worth a punt?

People wise up. We have not got £200m to spend on names plucked out of the trash media. Shrewd signings so far and may not be any more after Doni. We have come a long way since those swindlers ruined our club, so let's be realistic and not post any old crap.
Great site Eds, my mrs doesn't think so though

George Elokobi would be the best left back I think. Whats your opinion ed? {Ed009's Note - he's a hench man, but no thanks.}

ed who was the 2 trialists that scored a brace each for the under18's today? tanx {Ed001's Note - they wouldn't name them earlier for some reason, I am not sure why though)

One is called Nacho which would indicate that he is perhaps Spanish or South American. He scored to and laid on one which seems promising. The other one wasn't named

Footybunker saying we may turn to defoe instead of higuain. Who are footybunker ed they were saying yesterday we were preparing a bid for higuain {Ed009's Note - its hard to take much notice of many sites like those, these days.}

Completely unrelated but did anyone see how amazing dynamo was? Back to Liverpool, any idea what wages Henderson, Adam and downing will be on eds? {Ed009's Note - Henderson I imagine is quite low. Adam is on 30,000 a week and Downing will be on a bit more, I imagine roughly 50,000.}

ed do you think we are taking a risk by signing all these players without selling any? I mean the wage bill must be through the roof at the moment
thanks
Eoghan {Ed009's Note - we can't just sit around though - what if none of them got sold at all? It'd be a nightmare. Some will go on loan where wages are paid for, some will be released on a free and some will have a settlement package agreed for them.}
