Ive just watched Iron Man 3 and there is a scene where a guy is watching football. It shows the goal from Daniel Agger against Chelsea when we beat em 4-1.

Was quite strange to see that in a Marvel film, but awesome.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The guy is sir ben kingsley I saw that in imax shoulda seen the looks I got when I jumped up and screamed GOAALLL.mortified gf.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's quite fitting for Dagger to be in a marvel movie, As he's most definitely been a super hero to many Liverpool supporters., Me included lol

I'm pretty sure it's the scene with Ben Kingsley and if I'm not mistaken, he himself is a 'Pool fan so I'm sure he wanted that in there on purpose haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

There should just be a like button to like comments. I just 'like' this. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I saw it at the cinema and found myself watching the football in the background for a moment rather than the movie.

Eds anew reds,
I really don't think we need anymore CM players when we have agger. He can easily play CDM and let hendo, Coutinho, stevie, and many more attacking mid players we have to push forward and make passes or runs with their mind at ease knowing the great dane is holding the fort! another LB to challenge Enrique and a poaching striker for all the tap ins and were all set. Skrtel should stay as I think he would relish a chance to prove his worth. If this is how it ends up, I'll be way more than happy. We don't need to sign big, we got a great team now. I'll say, BRING IT ON to all EPL teams!

Daniel Agger has been at Liverpool since 2006 and hasn't played as a defensive midfielder even once. As a matter of fact, Carragaher, Hyypia and Arbeloa (the latter two as subs) were all picked ahead of him as DMs when there were injury crises.

There's more to being a defensive midfielder than raw tackling or passing ability. It's about instincts, positioning, reading the game and using the ball efficiently. That's why Lucas is better than players who are stronger, quicker and more technically gifted than him. Because he has the head for it.

There is no evidence that Agger has the head for it, and trying to convert our best centre-half to a DM at this stage of his career so he can more than likely just be backup to Lucas is a waste of time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your idea of Agger at CDM has some merit, but I don't see him being utilized there better than CB for us. Yes he's a physical presence and that is required there, but he isn't technical enough imo. Don't get me wrong, I'm not slating his ability because I think he's a top player and definitely above-average technically for a defender. What's wrong with Lucas honestly that you are thinking of replacing him with Agger? Lucas gets stuck in physically despite his size and he reads the game really well. Intercepting and cutting out a lot of attacks. Also very technical and his distribution is solid. I don't think replacing Lucas is the answer personally, contrary to some opinions here.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Agger is mobile enough don't think he could cover enough yards closing down so much, etc without risking braking him. I'd like to see someone come in who could provide competition and backup for Lucas but at the same time if we don't then we'll make do with what we have

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not buy a quality defensive midfielder and keep Agger as a CB? Why move him to a position where he is untried?

Agree0 Disagree0

Something Red summed up everything I wanted to say about Agger.

if arsenal buy suarez it could do 2 things, give us the money to get fabregas, 2) clear arsenals money out so they could not afford him, he is one of the best attacking midfielders about and I think we should go in for him imagine him and stevie g linking up with couthino that would get us 4th spot easy, sturridge as proved himself and couthino is a great player with the speed merchants down the wings then we will have a very good team, I think fabregas is worth 30 mil

mickey b {Ed019's Note - Liverpool are not going to sign Fabregas}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's not as simple as having the money, yes we could afford him but no he wouldn't come. I honestly believe he'd turn down Manchester United just because of his Arsenal history so he's not going to leave Barcelona for us. It's different looking to players like Tello who won't get much game time.

The money to get Fabregas?

Hey eds great work. U know Eriksen has been done to death but is there actual interest. There are a lot of reports online saying we are in pole position but is t that what was said with Mkhitryan. Do you expect a bid or will this prove to be another situation where fans get their hopes up for no reason. {Ed019's Note - He's been scouted previously but I'm not sure if the interest is still there}

What if Liverpool used the money from Suarez to get ibrahimovic and didn't buy any other attackers so that we could afford his wages. Zlatan wins titles. {Ed019's Note - Old, high wages, no loyalty}

I have to say I would expect Coates, Spearing, Assaidi, Downing and Suarez to leave Liverpool and generate sales close to £60million. Now using that money if we bought players who are underrated and undervalued buy their current clubs i.e. Like we did with Coutinho and Sturrigde, then we’d have no problems at all. People here crave the big signings the glamour buys but the reality is if you arrive with a hefty price tag you will struggle to perform, this is generally the rule there is however exceptions (Ronaldo). The likes of Aspas and Luis Alberto will bed in fine to the squad, their fees are really nothing when held up against Man City’s signings, whereas Andy Carroll was doomed to failure by the expectation placed on his pricy head. Saying that I personally feel that signing players like Kevin Gamerio, Toby Alderweireld, Thiago Ilori, Xherdan Shaqiri and Christian Eriksen for reasonable fees (£6-20million price range per player) wouldn’t be a bad thing the average fee would be around £8.5m inflated by Eriksen who would have to suffer the most pressure from us fans. I suppose what I’m really getting at is if they play for us support them, forget about their costliness and get behind the lads, I’ve seen so many Lucas, Henderson, Allen, and Borini haters on here complaining about their fee yet you forget it when one of them improves, support them regardless of cost or performance, through good times and bad times, that is what being a supporter is all about and some are letting the team down.
(N.B no problems at all with constructive criticism just the abuse that gets given out is generally unwarranted)
Rant Over.
Kieran

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ok, honestly, I did not read your post after the £60million comment. How's that again? Coates, Spearing, Assaidi and Downing are selling for £20m?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said, the players do not choose the price they are bought for. Once they are here, support them 100 percent regardless if they cost 1 pound or 100 million pounds.

Agree0 Disagree0

Coates is valued at £5m
Assaidi is valued at £4m
Downing is valued at £7m
Spearing is valued at £2.5m
Plus all other players already released that figure does work out to be around £20m not to far off with the finances £60m overall sounds about right

Palermo Tancredi (Quite well respected) claiming that we will receive a bid for Higuain plus cash for suarez {Ed019's Note - Even if this were true the cash would be minimal and Higuain may not want to join}

One thing I can say though if we sell suarez

There is no excuse for us not to be prepared in terms of getting in players to replace suarez.

Suarez made clear hints from the first interview he had in Uruguay that he wants out.

The situation is much different from that of torres, so if we sell him and don't manage to get replacements in then its not suarez fault.

if he stays great if he leaves great but only if BR signs the right players.

Hi eds. According to some sources, we are ready to accept a bid of 25 mill plus shaqiri for suarez, I think this would be a amazing deal for us and bayern since we could use that money to land eriksen and alderwerild. We have sturidge, borini and aspas for the striker position we won't need to worry. What is your opinion on this eds? Is there any truth in this rumour? Thanks in advance eds. {Ed019's Note - I doubt this}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

O my god I would be O SO happy if we got Shaqiri, Eriksen & Alderwerild in exchange for Suarez. Pleeeeeeease let this come true. Shhh, don't say anything Eds, let me dream a moment, let me dream.

This is what I wanted to hear:

Ayre came out and said that it is up to us to convince Suarez that we will achieve CL football and that the fans will accept him back despite all his nonsense.

Let's get some facts straight. No player is bigger than the club. But if we lose Suarez we won't achieve CL for at least the next 3 years. If we lose Suarez it is all from the start again. Our team is not complete without a player of his caliber who can score 20+ goals a season. And let's face it even if we sell him for 50m we won't be getting any player who will be even close to Suarez' ability.

Reality check people. If you want CL back to Liverpool we should sustain any progress we make. That means keeping our star players at any cost, no matter what they do and what they say. When it will be time we will get rid of them. But this year it is not the smart move to ship Suarez. It is up to Liverpool to keep the player, it is not up to Suarez to leave the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You say no player is bigger than the club, then you say we should keep Suarez whatever the cost. Is that not a contradiction?

MUSHROOM

Agree0 Disagree0

Finally some one with common sense who like I can see that if suarez leaves you can forget about cl, like rooney you take away from them what makes them tick and you may as well sign up one of the ed, s not disrespect tended lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said, totally agree!Uglygeordiegenius

Agree0 Disagree0

How about he stops getting banned for a quarter of the season and helps us get top four.

Agree0 Disagree0

No keeping him doesn't mean he is bigger than the club. It just means it is in our interest to keep him this year. Thus it is for the benefit of the club not Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dunno if you're aware but Suarez didn't get us in top 4 last year, maybe if he didn't keep getting banned we might find it easier.

Nevada

Agree0 Disagree0

He got banned last season for the last 4 games - games which did not mean anything anymore.

However he never got injured, never was taken out of play "to rest", and only missed one game for yellow cards.

Not so bad, comparing to some others, who spent more, due to injuries and stuff.

Sturridge has been here for short time, and he already spent a few games due to injury. He can not replace Suarez, simply because he is too injury prone. Not even talking about Borini.

It's not their fault of course, but it's a fact - games missed due to injury are no different to games missed due to ban - except you also have to recover after injury, and some are unable to.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Suarez' bans have anything to do with not being able to get top 4 spot.
With the teams we had the last two years we were far from 5th position not 4th.
It is another matter if we can cope without him for couple of games from not having such a player at all. Wake up and stop comforting yourselves, without Suarez we will go years back.

Agree0 Disagree0

What an irritating original post, goes against everything this club has stood for.
There has only ever been one one-man team and his name was Diego Maradona. Luis Suarez is a long long way from being able to lace his boots on or off the ball.
The interests of the team are greater than the interests of the individuals. Luis is not a team player anymore, we don't need him in his present state.

Has anyone else noticed that on the media is really stupid and that first what they do is say that we are linked with a player (for example Shaqiri) and then the next day its a part deal for suarez. literally its linked then swap deal the day after. I just want to no if i'm the only one who has realized this?

ElRobbeNino

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not stupid at all I can't wait for him to be gone.
I think Arsenal's improved bid can only help us. Mardid are already going to have to up their offer or offer a player or two into the deal.

If minuich are interested even better again as they have a player we would be interested in, and is possibly surplus at the club.

For me (if possible) Suarez to Madrid for Higuain & Rodriguez plus 10 million.

Or
Suarez to Bayern for Shaqiri plus 20 million.

Or
Take Arsenal's 35 million offer.

Of it comes to it I would take the Arsenal offer as we are better off finding a less controversially ed in the team. There's so much quality available he's not irreplaceable.

I don't think it should a be a matter of Suarez's ability the reason staying here. Fact is he doesn't deserve fans like us, the entire footballing world in England was against him, the media hounding him down like a dog. We stood up for him, the team freaking wore Suarez shirts to support for goodness sake! Take 40 million for him, then get rid of him. Suarez once said that he understood the meaning of You Never Walk Alone, if he leaves, especially since now he is "open" to the possibility of staying in the premier league, then surely he will always, always, walk alone.

Rant done. Good day to all!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont take it personally mate - Suarez has said he loves the LFC fans and that he is leaving for ambition. I know that translates to money, but loyalty and playing for the shirt are qualities that are not common these days. Knowing the loose cannon that Suarez is, is anyone actually shocked that he is angling his way out of LFC in the way he is? We need to calm down and concentrate on the players that want to be here and support them, not attack the ones that dont.

Hi Ed, s great site. Do you think our replacement for suarez (If he goes) will be a "moneyball" type ( coutinho/ sturridge - can't get a game at club, personality clash, doesn't fit star player template etc) signing who has had problems at other clubs or a truly well known name? I only ask as we seem to have a talent for cherry picking the moneyball type.

Hi Eds, I am wondering for a long time - why don't you make something like a sheet, containing list of players that Liverpool is interested at? I think this will seriously reduce the dumb questions like "Eds please help is LFC interested at Njongo Priso tnx". The sheet may contain latest information about any player and thus you will decrease the number of all these irritating stupid or repeating questions than make the life of the average reader difficult.

Have to admit I'm glad Arsenal are showing interest in Suarez as now at least Madrid have to up their offer instead of the joke offer they have put on the table originally.

Would be more than happy with Higuain plus cash for him, but how about Higuain, Rodriguez and a cash sum of say 10 million?

Great business if we can pull that off, but would still be made up if we get Higuain and cash.

Me to my m8 we as a club have have took a lot of stick backing Suarez up not once but twice and this is how we end up, let the press and pundits get on sum other clubs back for his actions, I'd be happy to c him go for good money b4 any says we won't make top 4 are talking 100% sense, we can we had Suarez last year and we did not make top 4 the year b4 he did not score all that many compare to this year if spent wisely we could do very well because of past years we got no faith in are transfer s and money we spend but think are owners are not daft not make same mistakes again 35 m for player with 6 months in prem is asking for trouble, have faith people as long as we do are best and give 100% then that's all we can ask

Just a quick question for everyone out there. If we were to place a valuation on Kelly, Wisdom, Ibe suso and sterling. What do we think they're worth or would sell for?

Is Shaqri, Alderweild or Erikson better than sterling/ibe, Kelly/wisdom or suso? This is a question to those with a little more European football knowledge than myself!

For me Kelly given an injury free season and a chance could become the first choice CB instead of spending 8mil on Alderweild. Since his debut I've never seen him play a bad game and he has all the attributes to be a great lfc CB. Same applies to Wisdom, Ibe (not many first team games to judge from I know) and Suso.

I don't mind us spending big on guarenteed first 11 players but splashing out on anymore youngsters with potential will only stunt the development of our own youngsters. For me a Suarez replacement (assuming he goes) a skytel replacement (hoping he goes) and utility type DM would in my opinion be a fantastic summer and would show a significant improvement in the squad, despite the loss of Suarez.

On a side note a front 4 of sturridge, aspas, ibe and coutiniho has potentially everything IMHO

Thanks
CQ (haven't posted in a long time because of the general dross on here so very happy to see a more positive rumours site) {Ed052's Note - Don't mind if I answer CQ! For valuations, you are looking at 10m for Kelly, 6m for Wisdom, 5m for Ibe, Suso and Sterling. Although they are 'worth that' to us/what we would sell/to buy a player of equal quality and potential, would be a lot more, like 20m each! And at this point, I don't think that Alderweireld is better than Kelly or Wisdom. Eriksen and Shaqri are better than the other 3. If signed, Eriksen would play CAM (so Coutinho goes left CAM) and Shaqri plays right. Does anyone know what wing S plays on??}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think I seen shaqri play left wing against United when he ripped them apart for basel the game with put him on the map only game I seen him start rest was as a substitute but I'm sure he could easily play either though

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, he's left footed and a quality player so I imagine he'd be able to play right inside forward for us no problem. Him and Aspas could hold down that spot.

SpudRed

Agree0 Disagree0

I've seen Shaqiri play all across the 3 behind the striker ED. But he's most effective from the right when I've seen him, cutting onto his left foot as he has a great shot. He's also very good with his right foot and can beat a man on the outside and deliver a good cross. He's very strong and fast with great acceleration and he's very direct. He can also play an intricate through ball aswell. I think if he signed he would be perfect for the right forward position and he's the type of player that fits the way Liverpool are trying to play. Hope that helps ED.
St. Helens Red {Ed052's Note - Cheers bud. Then he'd fit in nicely on the right}

Agree0 Disagree0

So Coutinho goes left CAM
=================

what do you mean left CAM, I am not taking the mick, its serious question; not the first time I heard/read 'left CAM' but never understood what they mean by it, I thought the C was for central through the middle?

Roy {Ed052's Note - Well, how I see us, is one CDM (Lucas), one normal CM (Gerrard), then, a Left Centre Attacking Mid - so sort of left wing - which is Coutinho. I see it as CAM however, because the cut in so much, and have freedom. So We have a CAM (that 3rd midfielder) a Left CAM, Right CAM, and a striker. I hope you get that, I haven't explained well.}

Agree0 Disagree0

£5mill for sterling?
c'mon ed052 we just sold shelvey for more than that and raheems 5x the player!
MikeyD {Ed052's Note - At this point, Raheem isn't better, probably, but will be (hence the 20m). Its always trickey to value players who just won't be leaving}

Hi Ed052, been reading about the Eriksen and Alderweireld rumours and I chanced upon one where you said that for 22 million for both that it would be great business for us. But further down, you also said that LFC will most likely not table a bid even though there is interest from us. Is there a reason behind that? Many thanks.

YNWA
Redken {Ed052's Note - I just don't think that Eriksen is a very likely target, e.g. because he speak a lot, demands (wage) and the fact he may not even want to come. And Alderweireld: we have previously walked away from him due to a 'high' valuation from Ajax, but perhaps we will ask again, as a deal at 7m seems possible}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed, I still reckon we will finally go for eriksen. He seems the most achievable target right now.
More importantly I just hope Ayre is capable of completing a number of deals quickly as I have a feeling most of our INS will be after the Suarez sale.
And we genuinely still need a CAM, CB, LB, RW atleast if not another attacker.

Ed052's Note - I've explained why I'd like LS at Arsenal}

Ed, I've used the search function but I can't find your explanation for why you'd like LS at Arsenal
I'd love to hear it {Ed052's Note - Hi Chris. Basically, this: 1) He'd be very expensive and blow the majority of someones budget, e.g. Arsenal, so meaning that they won't be able to improve everything they need too. 2) It means that everybody will understand what a lying DF (I don't know what it means either) he is. 3) He will get more press here, than if he goes to e.g. Spain, so it means we can laugh at everything he says, which, isn't particularly funny now when he is saying he wants to leave, but would be if he was at another rival. 4) Last, I want to see a whole set of rival fans get excited - like the Arsenal fans are now - and then get instantly disappointed when they realise he cannot play until the end of September.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

While I agree with your points Ed you are choosing to ignore the other things he would bring to Arsenal namely goals. They will buy other players anyway no matter what Suarez costs ( I can see them spending near 100 million this summer) and with a decent CB and a decent CM with Suarez I would make them favourites for the title. let's face it they'll finish top 4 at least without Suarez so I hope he goes abroad and quickly.
By the way I'd still like to see us target another main striker who would you like to see us target in that position?

Agree0 Disagree0

If he does go to arsenal then we can laugh at them when Suarez does something stupid for them and gets another lengthy ban

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder could we get ox chamberlain and 30 million . that would maybe be a good deal if suarez is defo going .

Agree0 Disagree0

I guess I look at it like other strikers (e.g. Higuain) are just as capable of scoring goals for Arsenal as Suarez is. I'd say played centrally they're pretty much equal in that regards with Higuain probably requiring less chances to score, although Suarez is the more creative of the two generally. Compare that against the negatives Suarez would bring to Arsenal (the booing, press attention, being a bit greedy on the ball, etc.) and overall my personal opinion is Arsenal + Suarez is a worse team then Arsenal + Higuain. Obviously if neither were there, even better. Again, just my opinion but why I, like some others, aren't too concerned if Suarez goes to Arsenal so long as we get decent money.

Agree0 Disagree0

But ed honestly do you not fear he will improve them making it harder to break in to the top 4? Hole person but has quality {Ed052's Note - Nope, I don't. Because he will limit what he teammates can do - because he wont pass. It means they will score less, play worse, and Suarez won't impact as much as people think. E.g. If Arsenal sign him, they won't suddenly score 30 more goals, because Suarez scored that many last year. Maybe 10/15}

I think DF means dumb f**k, Ed052. Just a guess. LOL!

Re: Christian Eriksen
This time last year, and the year before, Eriksen was the one signing almost all fans wanted to happen, including myself. A young Danish playmaker from Ajax to buddy up with countryman Agger, sitting alongside Stevie and dominating midfields for years to come.

Problem now is the boy Eriksen isn't the target, he has been but is no longer 'the future'. It's nothing to do with LFC, it's the player. He burst onto the scene 2 years ago, maybe too early. From me learning from Dutch supporters, journalists and well opinionated people, he hasn't progressed as much as everyone thought he would. The obvious argument is at Ajax his development has stalled, but it doesn't excuse natural development in his game which hasn't taken place.

Coupled with a bit of a snobbish attitude towards clubs, he has gone from ultimate target to afterthought. I hope folks wake up and realise this isn't the same boy from a few years ago, and I would actually be disappointed if we signed him now. Not that we would though, he wants a 'big time' move, and I don't think its agent influence, its on him. At the end of the season, almost every football writer who followed the dutch leagues put De Jong over Eriksen as the Ajax midfielder that is the stand out player, even Jan Molby has seen this and commented, and his stock has fallen.

I hope people who are STILL saying he would be a wonder signing etc, realise that this isn't the case now, he won't be good enough. Now the lad Bernard from Brazil, he IS the future, and hopefully all attention is turned onto this boy. That's my opinion, but it's not opinion on Eriksen, its pretty factual that he won't be a LFC star. Aged 21, he has time to get there, but now is not the time. I hope he goes to Roma or somewhere credible, but LFC can do better.

Coutinho was considered the next big thing before he went to inter and he wasn't great there, people expected a lot more. We took a risk and look how that turned out, he's quality. Eriksen may be a risk but it's one we have got to take, he's an exciting player who has to some degree proved himself in Europe. This Bernard lad may be the next big thing, from what I've seen of him in the Brazilian league he looks good, however the premier league is by far superior to the Brazilian league, as has been proved over the years. You can't really say he's the next big thing when I can guarantee you haven't seen him play 3 full games. So Bernard too is a risk. Why are you willing to say that someone who would cost more and has only just become a big prospect is better than eriksen? Chances are we will get neither

Agree0 Disagree0

A bit like how Coutinho and Sturridge were forgotten. Forgotten players who are young do the best. Players with a point to prove! {Ed052's Note - Has anybody else noticed something with half or so of Rodgers singnings. They're players who have something to prove, i.e. DS, Coutinho, Toure etc}

Agree0 Disagree0

You were doing fine until you said thta de jong is better than eriksen.i watch ajax because I use to life in holland for a few years. eriksen is young and young players they have dips, but take my word eriksen is the real deal. he will kick on next season, and we could have a world class player for little money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would you stop one bad season means nothing coutinho said he didn't want to leave inter couldn't get a game now look at him Rogers would bring out the best in Eriksen so seriously give him a break he is a bit mouthy but is young and will learn how would welcome him

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen not that good player? for 12m it would be a steal compare that to henderson 22m or downing 20m you take henderson over eriksen?

Chris

Agree0 Disagree0

The 'boy' gives you away, have the mancs not got their own page for you to look at.

Agree0 Disagree0

No matter how eriksen is playing he is an immence talent and his value will never be lower than 12 million(if accurate)so would be a good buy a change of scenery could be great for him and if he's sold he will make us a profit so he is probably what fsg would like

Ed's

My sympathy to you! Can people not realise the following.

1. The club will make a bid for a player if and when they a)want the player and b)think they can get the player for price that they are prepared to pay

2. When "someone" links us with a player it doesn't mean we want to buy them.

3. If point 1 is true then a bid will be made.

4. We do not lose out on player that haven't bid for either becasue we do not want them or their price is to high.

5. We do have to be realistic in what we can afford right now and who we can attract because of no CL etc.

6. We will not be able to bid in some cases either because of price or the player has said no to joining us from the outset.

7. Please stop when we do buy someone that he's useless and overpriced until we have seen them.

8. Yes we are all entitled to out opinions but plase let's keep them sensible.

Ed's you do a great job and hopefully if only a small percentage of people on here take note your lives may be easier and the readers.

IrishRedDog

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If the club are to go places at some point they may need to pay over the odds for a player if he's the one that might make the difference.

We only got/bought Sturridge and Coutinio because they were cheap, they had bad history's (injury or attitude) and weren't getting game time. I take it that we are still looking for those types as we can't afford anymore.

By the end of the summer FSG will show what there ambitions are by what money if any they give to BR. Personally I don't see have incoming players without sales.

My bet is by the end of the summer window out net spend will be £0 but with a reduced wage bill and a striker short as usual :-) {Ed052's Note - paying 'over the odds' is a silly thing to do, look at Carroll. You can pay fair fees and get gems; DS, Coutinho etc. To have a go at FSG is stupid, they pump money into this club in massive amounts, millions each month. Meanwhile, what is wrong with a net spend of 0? If we improve surely that's pats on the back alround? It means we've played the market very well. And a net spend of 0 (I expect we will get more transfer money in than goes out even) doesn't means we spend nothing. There are millions of other fees to think of - all the teabags for new signings, par example}

Agree0 Disagree0

No 0 net means nothing of that. In fact all these years of FSG the only smart buys were Sturridge, Coutinho and Suarez. Apart from that we paid over the odds for mediocre players who are just "team players".
FSG needs to spend at least for a star player if they want to get into the CL otherwise mediocrity will remain for years to come. so please stop excusing them because they give money into the club each month. They bought Liverpool, not Yeovil.

Not a rumour but would like to hear what the Eds and LFC supporters think.
With regards to Suarez, first LFC bigger than Suarez and the club will survive with or without him. He has let the club and supporters down with his comments on wanting out of the club. I would urge the club to learn from man u and Spurs. Do you remember when we wanted to sign Heinze from Utd. He wanted to come but Alex put a stop to it. We should take a leaf out of that book. He is under a long contract so if he goes he goes abroad and there is no chance of joining another PL team regardless of the amount on offer. Also look at modrige(spelling). He put in transfer requests and spoke out about a move but Spurs said no and made him stay for another year. Again we can learn from this and keep him for one more year to push for a CL spot.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is absolutely no comparison. Heinze was for sale by MU but would not sell to LFC. I'm pretty certain that if MU bid for Suarez they would get a firm sod off.
Modric never gave umpteen press interviews were he said he wanted out. Also Spuds didn't want to sell him.
Suarez wants to leave and LFC want rid. If a deal can be sorted with RM, so be it. If a deal can be sorted with Arsenal, so be it.
Let's just get rid of someone who doesn't want to be here and move on. Let Suarez cause someone else problems.

MUSHROOM

Agree0 Disagree0

Mushroom
Of course these are similar cases. Suarez might want the move but the club can pick what offer they want and don't want. One thing for sure you would not want him playing for a team that we are trying to knock out of the CL spots.
And Modric made plenty of press comments and handed in a transfer request that was refused. He moved on a year later but it was when spurs were ready and at the price they set.
My point is this. The club holds all the aces and we should not let him dictate to us. 50m at least and only to other leagues. If suarez does not like it then tough for him. He made his bed so let him lie in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Modric got the move he wanted, do you think saurez will move to any club lfc want him to go to? get real mate, at the end of the day saurez will go to a club that he wants to go to, and if lfc try to mess him about he might just stay at lfc and stand and scratch his ba$$s most of the 90min, s or get another long ban, I don't care what anyone says, any marqee signings will mostly be paid for with the saurez transfer money

Agree0 Disagree0

MUSHROOM - Think you have been eating too many of them wild ones! LFC ARE AND WILL ALWAYS BE BIGGER THAN ANY PLAYER - ALWAYS!!! get a grip boy. let's hope BR can persuade Suarez to stay and fight the cause. The rumour about xherdan shaqiri is false, this is a player that Bayern Munich payed less then €15 for him, do why would Liverpool pay almost €25 if we haven't really seen much of him while at Bayern therefore he's value should go down not go high.

Another thing Liverpool are going to keep losing out on players if we do not gamble and make a bid on certain players. Take a look at HM, we were certainly interested but we lost out because we never put a bid in for him, another example is clint Dempsey. With the Editors suggesting Skrtel might stay and Agger could leave this has made it clear to me, why we are being linked to Alderweireld.

The best combination for a centre back pair, is a beast who can handle the tough strikers, and a ball playing centre half who can bring it out of defence. At least one of these defenders should be tall (or good in the air) to nullify aerial threats and at least one of them must possess organisational skills. This is why Carragher and Hyypia worked so well. Carragher was the beast, Hyypia was the ball player. Hyypia was good in the air, and Carragher was the leader. With Brendans new style (which requires the defence to hold a high line) we must now factor in the need for pace. Agger is quite fast for a centre back. Skrtel is pretty average. Toure is reasonably quick, Carragher (in his 30's) and Coates were slugs.

It looked likely to begin with that we would sell Skrtel, Coates and Carragher (retire). We replaced Carragher with Toure for the leadership side of things, we are looking to bring in Ilori to replace Coates as the young centre back. Papadopoulos was looking likely to repace Skrtel as the new (and hopefully better) beast of the backline. With Skrtel now more likely to stay, this suggests Rodgers has faith in him to re-discover his form and start to dominate strikers again like he did the season before last. If Agger is the one to go, we no longer need a beast, but a ball playing centre back. Step up, Alderweireld. A player who is fast, good with the ball and good in one on one situations. Partnering him with Agger would be a catastophe as they are too similar. Replacing Agger with him, is essentially just cutting the average age and wage bill for a player of only slightly less quality, more potential, and a better injury record.

If Skrtel is the one to go, expect a Papadopoulos type defender. If Agger is the one to go, expect an Alderweireld type defender. If both stay, we will probably sign just Ilori to replace Coates.

In all seriousness though, could you imagine Lukaku or Benteke vs Alderweireld and Agger!? The highlights would be ages 18+. You need some grit back there.

Alderweireld/Agger, Skrtel/Papa, Toure and Ilori (+ Kelly & Wisdom) is more than enough cover for 2 positions. Sama and L.Jones may even be used sparingly next year.

Hope this makes sense to people. I'm just being logical, and thiking about the balance in defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

OP tries to paint a picture of a Beast/Style partnership more like Vidic/Ferdinand as a good example. Carragher/Hyypia was a Beast/Beast partnership and Henchoz wasn't a ball player before Carragher either and Henchoz/Hyypia was a better partnership unreal for a few seasons.

Made me laugh as Hyypia was a way too tough to be remembered as a silky ball player kind of defender. Alright with the ball at his feet but definitely wasn't one of these modern day ball playing centre halves.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sean mate, won't have a bad word about 'our' Sami. What a great player, he scored some big goals for us too!

Agree0 Disagree0

Loved Sami, a great balance as a centre back, hard as nails, commanding in the air and good on the ball, plus he cost peanuts so was a result of good scouting. My view is that you don't need a beast and a ball player, just remember that Hansen and Lawrenson were both ball playing cb's!

Lets play hardball on with the ungrateful Uruguayan! No matter what we 'll only negotiate with clubs that match our valuation. At least 45m pounds even to start negotiations.if the clubs bidding are not matching our valuation then no matter whether he hands a transfer request or not we should not let him leave on easy. let's make like difficult for this fella. If Cavani is worth 53m than Suarez with all his bad attributes guess 45m isn't high. Furthermore with the fact Bale is valued by spurs and media around 70m. Suarez was better than Bale last season though he didn't win the PFA AWARDS.

I don't care where he goes as long as we get enough cash for him. For me he has been acting worse than Torres and Mascherano. At least they kept their mouth quiet.

And this talk about wanting to win EPL! Ya go to Arsenal you will surely win it. Lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thank god your not a diamond broker, your valuation techniques are awful.

Agree0 Disagree0

A player is only worth what a club is prepared to pay.

example: Cavani was only worth perhaps £40/£45m to Chelsea but obviously £53m to PSG. PSG's motivation, having seen Monaco spend £50m plus on Falcao was not to be left behind. A simple case of anything you can do

Agree0 Disagree0

So u say if Arsenal offer 35m then its Suarez price. Let him leave for 35m. Lmao
45m or no deal with anyone! If we sell him on cheap we lost a lots of punt there which can do lot of good to the club

Agree0 Disagree0

If Arsenal are only prepared to offer £35m (and allegedly they have a war chest of £70m plus) then that is their valuation of Suarez.

Napoli may offer £42m and that may be their valuation.

Madrid may then step in with £42m knowing that Saurez prefers a move to them. They certainly wouldn't offer more.

Simple really

Agree0 Disagree0

Simple really? wow what insight.

christian eriksen seems like there may be some firm interest or might be another Liverpool will hugely miss out on. suarez out. eriksen in. x

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Based on what?

Eriksen is a selfish and lazy player who only cares for money and has been pimping himself across Europe.

He disappointed many scouts who watched him last year as he drifts out of games and doesn't help the team when defending.

If you had ever watched the Eredivisie, like I actually do, you would not want Eriksen but Wijnaldum or Vilhena.

Just because Eriksen was linked with Barca etc he has been incredibly overrated on this site.

Not good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

You may be right but it may also be the case that for the price BR thinks he can get an extra 25% from Eriksen and reinvigorate him like he has done with Coutinho. No one disagrees that Eriksen has great talent, balance and skills. They do doubt whether he's developed as he should in the last couple of yrs. still only 21 remember - that's a lot of top class experience for the money. Ability wise he's streets ahead of Allen & Henderson (different types of player obviously) so the valuation is in our favour on this one. Only the scouting team knows if we're really in for him.

Hello fellow kopites,
after reading the Guardian report on Stevie's new deal really feeling a little relaxed as the article mentions we have quite a decent money still left to buy players. Adding to that Suarez (40m), Coates (3-4m), Spearing (2m), Pacheco, Flanagan, Assaidi (1m) and possibly Downing (7m) we should have atleast 60-70m to spend on transfers.
Its just about identifying the players necessary and going all out on them that is the hard part.
Really hope we this time spend the cash well and on players with a better attitude than Suarez. The squad with those outs will need a couple of attackers, a CM, a CB and a LB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What a load of crap. Pacheco, flanno are not worth a millon as for the same as assaidi they have done nothing as of yet to prove there even worth that. stop reading all the crap in the press they know nothing. they don't have a clue what's going on at the club. its all bullsh*t.

Oh you do, how much were you thinking of now . hang on Ivan, I just dropped the phone . Did you say thirty five?
And what sort of money were you thinking of for his other leg?

I mean come on people . this so called story is a joke right?
Serious question, since it seems this is what's really going on - exactly who is it that's planting these "Arsenal" bid rumours to the papers, and do they really think it will prompt the bigwigs at Real to sell 'em Higuain?
And do Real actually want Suarez anyway . i'm begining to have my doubts .
What will be will be - I only ask one thing of my club and one thing only & that is they finally take a lesson from Mr Levy and grow a pair when and "if" they actually get a serious "offer".

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We already have the replacement for Suarez so will not be left short.
If Eriksen wants to go to another club, let him. Eriksen, HM, Suarez these players are not the be all and end all of LFC. There are thousands and thousands of players world wide who would be suitable alternatives. This is why you have a scouting team.

I honestly can't wait til the transfer window is over. Jeeez.
We are linked with 10 new players each day.

And no doubting the knob-heads & the trolls will come complaining that we "missed out" on players linked to us by the all trust worthy media.

I can't wait until Christian Eriksen signs for someone already, because I'm sick of reading his name every hour of every single day.

How Liverpool miss out on a player:

1.Liverpool submit a FORMAL offer to the player's club.
2.The offer is accepted & matched by other clubs.
3.The club submits a wage package for the player & his representatives.
4.If the player chooses to accept one of the others clubs offers then we have literally missed out.
I can't recall one player the following happened with.

We "missed out" on Mkhitaryan because we failed to agree a fee with his club. So the deal was obviously facing obstacles from stage 1.
And in the meantime Dortmund agreed a fee etc.

A better way to put it is that Liverpool & Shaktar couldn't agree on a fee.
Missed out is actually a very uneducated term with no basis in facts or reality.

We refused to meet his price and Dortmund moved in and used some of the Goetze or Champions League money to seal the deal.

Without elite European football we kinda need to offer more than those with such to get our targets over other teams. Which is why Rodgers has gone for unheard of players or inexperienced youth players who have been ear marked for their ability and/or their potential ability besides getting Toure on a free, so far.

To tell you the truth, it is depressing the way people have been trolling this site asking the same question over and over.

I wonder:

Is the average LFC 'fan' like this?

Is a large portion of the club's fan-base 'not really bright'?

And by corollary, are we LFC fans because we are not as bright as the average soccer fan?

If a player is looking for CL football then Liverpool will always miss out

It wasn't the fee that was the problem it was the so called super agent he hired who was the problem.

Do you believe Lpool should pay this agent nearly 8m euro's as a fee?

No they shouldn't, agents do virtually nothing and are demanding transfer fee size payments, he was the problem.

Just scanned an "article" saying RM won't be held to Liverpool demands!

Maybe we should try and sign baines for £7m, ronaldo for£10m, messi for £2m and Torres for £5m. oh no we can't as other clubs can name their price!!

Feck sake

Perez has said '' some players aren't right for us even if they are good players'' since then Madrid have signed two players under the age of 22 for £30 million each according to reports, so I don't even think he's top of El Presidente's list.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good for RM.

they can enjoy another season not winning anything

Agree0 Disagree0

They just bought out Illaramendi's contract at 32m Euros so if they don't want to pay a fair fee for Luis then they don't get him simples.

They are playing their usually cards and tbh a great club like Madrid should be ashamed of how they act, but he needs to spend big as it is re-election time again, this happens every time.

Isco and thiago playing for top teams in Europe imagine the fight to make the Spain squad for the world cup

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aspas and Alberto too ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't surprise me if Aspas will be in the mix too

Agree0 Disagree0

So who does isco play for then? {Ed002's Note - Real Madrid.}

Just out of interest would you guys prefer Bernard or Eriksen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bernard. Both possibly if Suarez is leaving- although that would require us also buying another back up striker.

Id rather gerrard play AMC this year then suso next year tbh.

Rather we spent on full backs and 1 CD

Bernard

Bernard!

no contest

Agree0 Disagree0

Both players have desired destinations, none being Liverpool

Agree0 Disagree0

You want to replace suarez with Bernard, eriksen and another striker?

Wait, what?

Hey eds. Any news on Gerrard's testimonial and what players LFC will bring? I tried the search function, but only thing I found was that you wasn't sure what players he'd bring yet. Thanks. YNWA {Ed002's Note - Try searching on "humongous".}

with thiago going to bayern do you thing it is possible we ignite an interest in gustavo
because bayern now have
martinez, schweinsteiger, thiago, gustavo gotze, kroos, muller and none of them will want to sit on bench {Ed002's Note - Gustavo is leaving regardless, but this is nothing to do with LFC.}

Thought Pacheco was really good yesterday think with suso going out on loan and shelvey leaving I think he would be great back up for couthinio

Think Lfc are undecided over Danny who has great ability, there's also the thought that he's quite immature and will not be a complete player until he's a bit older.
So for me, I wouldn't sell, I would fix another loan.
