Hi Eds,

Thinking back on old players what were your thoughts on Djimi Troares time at Liverpool? I always remember him never failing to amaze me with bizzare decisions.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

15 Mar 2016 22:41:45
Champions league medals
Djimi Traore - 1
Eric Cantona -0
I rest my case.

15 Mar 2016 22:46:33
His drag back into his own net in the FA Cup! Quality.

15 Mar 2016 23:02:29
He won a champions league medal šŸ˜„.

15 Mar 2016 23:51:13
He's part of our history for sure and will be remembered for playing a part in the champions league. I was watching a tribute video of him on youtube (i like to waste a lot of time) and the only clip they had was him scoring that own goal against Burnley haha.

16 Mar 2016 04:46:39
Not the most gifted player but always left everything out on the pitch when he played - he was excellent in the champions league final and is a part of our history - you can't help but admire players who give everything and Traore did that.

16 Mar 2016 07:49:07
Traore may be the worst ever player to start in a champions league final. The fact that we had lineups on that field such as Traore vs Nesta really goes to highlight how we shouldn't have won that game by any laws of nature.

16 Mar 2016 09:18:07
Traore's best game for us was the away game against Juventus in 05.

Rafa went with both Riise and Traore with Riise dropping back to LB and Traore pushing across to CB make a back 5 when defending in order to handle Zlatan, Nedved and Del Piero.

I just remember thinking after that game that he hadn't put a foot wrong, had covered huge amounts of ground and had managed to keep 3 of the best players on the planet quiet for 90minutes.

As people have said, not the most gifted player technically, but always gave his all in everything he did!

15 Mar 2016 21:50:58
Crappest player to win champions league.

15 Mar 2016 22:30:22
Djimi Troare own goal. Thoughts?

16 Mar 2016 18:05:35
a brilliant finish, shame his job was to clear it!

15 Mar 2016 17:45:40
Good to see allan called up to the u20 side. It should help him with a work permit. Hopefully we will be able to get that over the line before pre-season. Happy for him.

16 Mar 2016 20:08:41
You think the own goal was good. Check out his screamer for seattle a few years back. Shows his real talent

Crooky.

15 Mar 2016 17:36:59
Allan has got into the Brazil U20 squad! That's excellent news for him as it massively increases the chance of him getting a work permit.

Who's disagreeing with this. for the muppets out there its not joe allen!

15 Mar 2016 17:27:08
Just want to say I'm very sorry to see Ian Ayre leave. It must have been a absolute dream come true for him to be on the board of the club he supported for years. I know he got some stick for failing to make deals go through but sometimes no matter what you offer the player they just do not want to come. There is one thing for sure he always had the clubs best interest at heart every time.
Good luck Ian Ayre and thank you.

Believable19 Unbelievable8

15 Mar 2016 19:07:50
His task when appointed was to increase commercial revenue, this has gone up 85 per cent since. You can't have any qualms with that, wonder if he is taking his Harleys with him?

Or just ride into the sunset on one of them .

15 Mar 2016 09:11:07
Lads, Ian Ayre is a boyhood red. Do you not think if he could and the decision was his he would have secured all the players people blame him from missing out on. We all want Liverpool to sign the best players but at the end of the day money talks and he can only negotiate with what he is allowed to. No one knows why we didn't sign player x, y or z and are quick to jump on Ayres' back.
It's evident from every time he is interviewed regarding the club that he is a fan and deserves better than people getting on his back just for the sake of bashing someone.

Believable23 Unbelievable6

15 Mar 2016 19:40:47
It's more his lack of negotiating skills - paying Ā£10m too much per player and selling them for nothing.

15 Mar 2016 21:46:54
That "be careful what you wish for" comment he made after the fans walked out in protest of ticket prices seemed particularly ill-advised. Considering that Liverpool were number one in terms of payments to agents but not in fees paid for players you could argue that increased ticket prices were paying for his incompetence.

15 Mar 2016 15:44:25
Apparently the Derby has been rearranged for the Wednesday before the fa cup semi finals. I was confident of a victory before but I'm more confident now.

Nice one for jinxing us now šŸ˜‰.

15 Mar 2016 19:27:21
Does that not mean weakened Everton side or am I missing something?

15 Mar 2016 20:42:50
It doesn't matter what team Everton play it's weak anyway.

15 Mar 2016 13:19:54
Eds, I have a question regarding these LFC academies set up around the world. Two young lads from the Indian academy/ school have come to train with the first team this week.

Genuinely want to know what the purpose of these schools is? Will Liverpool look to sign some of these kids once they turn 18? Is it a marketing/ awareness advantage having these schools across the world? Do they make any money for the club? Would love a response.

Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - The idea is that the academies are self funding, keep the profile of the club high in other parts of the world and provide opportunities for some youngsters. If they produce a player or two that will be a bonus.}

15 Mar 2016 13:28:11
Hi Ed
Has a club ever had a successful graduate from these academies that went on to first team level?
Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - In terms of the academies based on other continents it is rare that any players make it through to the professional level with the club. There are exceptions, Abubakari comes to mind, but they are few and far between.}

15 Mar 2016 13:58:02
Thanks for the reply Ed, much appreciated.

15 Mar 2016 16:39:30
Thanks for the response ed.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

15 Mar 2016 16:58:42
The Indian kids are here only on a training stint for a week, and they are training with the U18s I think. Both of them have represented their country at a senior level though they are still playing kiddie football at club level in India.

15 Mar 2016 12:51:24
So with Ian Ayre stepping down, and as the season progresses and the players show more of what we as fans were hoping for when they were bought, I was wondering when we decide the signings made in the last few years were not that bad in terms of value for money. They lacked any sort of coherence when you look at the positions our team still lacks. But there is no denying the quality and potential of some these players, still in their youth.

Maybe Clyne and Moreno have not shown enough yet to say they have been great signings, but I believe what is lacking in their game can be taught i. e. when and how to defend or attack. Illori may not get the chance, but I still think he has the attributes to be the ball playing centre back we need with a bit of bulking up.

Coutinho - 8.5m
Sturridge - 12m
Clyne - 15m
Moreno - 12m
Illori - 7m (rumoured to be less)
Can - 9.75m
Gomez - 3.5m
Origi - 10m
Ings - Still to be agreed but seems good value

Firmino we paid considerably more for but his stats better Suarez in his first year so is a good signing. And a fan favourite Sakho - 18m could seem good value, if he gets those little errors out of his game. Is till think his passes fizzed in at pace to players through the opposition is underrated.

I'm not going to give credit for the players like Lallana, Lovren or Allen who are showing improvements recently but still don't seem value for money and wages, or for Milner who has not done enough for me.

We have made some shocking decisions, like Balotelli, Benteke, Aspas to name a few. And somehow after three years we still lack balance in the team, namely wingers.

But my point is I think the transfers made were on the main positive. I'd like the opinion of others on that.

As a note Emre Can is my favourite player currently and I would like to see him Captain one day. Still learning his positional sense but has the necessary desire, passion and leadership skills.

Believable15 Unbelievable8

15 Mar 2016 13:25:28
Agree with most of your post apart from the Lovren, Aspas part Lovren has been our best defender this year and has proven with the right coaching there is a very good good defender in there, with Aspas I guess you could say he was a waste of money but he was never really given a good run of games to get him to the level he was playing in Spain which is what he needed and being behind the pecking order of SOS.

15 Mar 2016 14:37:04
I agree, Lovren looks a much better player now than under Rodgers. But has he really been tested?

I think it is because of the manager's system and hard-working players in Can and Henderson in Midfield which has meant the defence for the first time in years has decent cover. Lovren is still pretty weak in the air, his distribution is average, he rarely scores from corners, which may not be the most important role for him, but I remember games where headers fell to him only for him to put it wide.

He doesn't look a bad player any more, but he doesn't look great or world class. We have come to accept poor defence in recent years so decent defending comes as a surprise. But he is not the level of quality a first team regular should be at Liverpool if we want to properly challenge. I don't want to sell him hopefully he improves, but not value for money for me.

Aspas was poor for Liverpool, he never came to be a starter but a backup striker.

15 Mar 2016 13:18:46
Ayre doesn't pick players for the amount of abuse he gets every Jan / July. He could only present an offer which is practical from the club point of view.

15 Mar 2016 16:08:18
Lovren is weak in the air? Maybe you need to watch him play and reevaluate that assertion. He's been fantastic in the air. Against Palace in particular he was excellent.

15 Mar 2016 17:17:50
Was Clyne 15 mill?

15 Mar 2016 17:33:47
Lovren was good at Palace, in more ways than his heading. He was aggressive and on the front foot, and I hope he has more games like that. He is getting better, it no longer worries you when he plays. But it will take more than a few games to have me fully convinced.

15 Mar 2016 22:23:08
I still think lallana is a good player. he's doing well for us under klopp as he is playing how he used to at southampton. We dnt have a bad squad it just needs tweeking. Benteke was never going to work for me so i wouldn't mind keeping the team we have just tweeking it up in summer šŸ‘ŒšŸ½.

16 Mar 2016 00:58:49
I think the bashing of IA for negotiating deals for players the manager picked is dishonest and downright disgraceful.

15 Mar 2016 10:44:33
Any truth about FSG looking to sell the club on Eds? read a few articles but it doesn't seem to add up. One item stated interest from an UAE family. I had to check the date of the article as it seemed to be groundhog day from a few years back!

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Nothing whatsoever has changed.}

15 Mar 2016 11:15:19
Thanks Eds,

15 Mar 2016 10:43:44
One player who has made a great transition into first team football is Chirivella. Great passer and great positional sense. For such a small lad he is not afraid to get stuck in.

Unfortunately for Jordan Rossiter his rise could spell the end of his time at Liverpool.

Believable7 Unbelievable7

15 Mar 2016 11:39:16
Same with Stewart to I love rossiter but they do look a step ahead in ways but also branno was brilliant when he played to.

15 Mar 2016 09:20:19
What's people's thoughts on Jordan Ibe, do you think he will fulfil his potential or do you think he will stagnate in his progress.
I think a loan to a premiership side would do him the world of good but do fear for him with the likes of Ojo and Kent coming through and also because it looks like Klopp sees the need for more wingers at the club (Markovic return)
Thanks guys.

Believable4 Unbelievable10

15 Mar 2016 09:28:39
I think it's more a case of support for him, my feeling is he is a player that feeds off positive feedback I wish him every bit of success at liverpool. come on ibe son .

15 Mar 2016 09:37:16
What would a loan do for him expect put his development in the hands of someone with no stake in his future?

15 Mar 2016 09:46:12
I just think playing in the premiership for a year would give him the chance to develope and mature his game.
I don't see him getting the required minutes next season to do this with us as I think Ojo will take this and we will see a lot of him.
Hope I'm proved wrong and he can really push on but this should of been the year for Jordan to nail down a place.

15 Mar 2016 10:12:07
Hjikle

A loan would guarantee him at least 20-30 games a season which would wonders to any kid. You just have to be careful in choosing the right club.
Klopp would be looking for title next season and would field the strongest team possible every week. Ibe would be left out due lack of games.

15 Mar 2016 10:29:31
Agree with that, you could see the benefits in Ibes loan to Derby his game progressed with regular minutes.
Like you say though it's got to be the right club!

15 Mar 2016 11:06:56
He will be a first team regular next season and beyond.

15 Mar 2016 11:21:02
what about canos. He is class and i think he could become a brilliant player. Markovic for me i think will be a fans favourite next year if we keep him. Fast direct tricky and he might actually get to play in his position wahoo.

15 Mar 2016 11:33:22
Klopp had been saying to keep the best youngster at the club, not loan out to others.

15 Mar 2016 11:43:22
I've been mulling over Ibe the last few days, for me his form has been one of the biggest disappointments of the season, not because I think he's no good but because I was so excited about him last summer and this has been a pretty awful year for him.

The lad has talent, pace and athleticism, last year in the lower standards of the Championship this allowed him to score a few goals but even then he wasn't creating much which, as a winger, I think is more important.

I expect he found youth football easy, he could do everything on his own and had little need to develop his movement, teamwork and interplay, that's no longer enough and he needs to develop that side of his game. If he can do that then he still has a brilliant future but it won't be easy. I'd keep him at Liverpool training with the first team but consider him a top youth prospect instead of as a squad player and give him game exposure accordingly. Give him all of next year to develop and then look at his progression next summer.

15 Mar 2016 11:58:53
Loan will guarentee him gametime will it? You mean like Ilori and Wisdom? Or like Bampford got with his Crystal Palace loan?

Loans guarentee nothing and past the point where players are really just getting their first professional minutes at any level under their belt, do not provide the value of being with the manager who actually knows how they want you to play. Ibe would only suffer long term from a season out on a fairly pointless loan.

15 Mar 2016 12:06:05
Notdeluded great shout on Canos, I should of mentioned him when included Ojo and Kent.
That's the problem I see with Ibe is that with these 3 prospects coming through and also Markovic who is around the same age as Ibe, I fear for Ibe as he should of pushed on more with being around the first team this year.
Like I said hope I'm wrong because like Muscatred mentioned I was excited to see Ibe this year and have been left disappointed.

15 Mar 2016 13:06:27
That's why it has to be the right loan move, for every Ilori there is a Harry Kane, who had 2 or 3 loans before making the grade.
Ibe won't learn anything in under 21s next year, needs to add maturity to his game and at the moment I think Ojo is catching up.

16 Mar 2016 07:52:56
You know that Kane struggled for gametime on his loans, failed to impress and the only reason Spurs didn't sell him before he starting making an impact in the Europa league was because they couldn't find a buyer right? The list of failed loan moves that do no justice to our players is endless vs the actual useful ones - and it's the same with most clubs. Look at Stewart as the most recent one - so anonymous on his loans that we barely even recognised the name when he played but boy what a player! Loans are not the answer for every young player having a few rough games.

15 Mar 2016 08:01:14
FSG need to stay.

They are one of the better owners.

Lets not be money grubbing b****** and ask for a Sheikh like owner.

We are in good hands and hopefully with Klopp things will get better.

YNWA.

Believable20 Unbelievable5

15 Mar 2016 09:16:27
Look what they have done to city! From a bang average club. Yes they struggled this year but so is everyone.

15 Mar 2016 09:29:10
we should get thai owners like leicester, look what they have done to leicester! from struggling relegation to title contenders and likely champion.

15 Mar 2016 10:09:04
it is a tough one if they back Klopp like they did with Rodgers and Klopp brings success then there will be no need to sell. if they can't bring success under klopp then they will look at selling to the highest bidder. i can see it now tho we sell to sheikh and Liverpool bought the league bla bla bla.

15 Mar 2016 10:48:41
Do good owners keep selling your best players to make it look like there puting in big money in the transfer window. They talk about winning trophy but they don't buy quality players. .

15 Mar 2016 10:56:13
Maybe we need to sign the monks that bless Leicester's ground at the start of the season. Ā£15 million and Joe Allen may do it.

15 Mar 2016 09:23:08
Hem, The club under FSG have spend an awful lot of money on players. BR himself bought close to 35 new players while Kenny had his hands on Ā£100 mill in the transfer window.
City bought the right players while we did not. If I am
Not wrong we have spend close to Ā£300 mill in past 3 years good enough to buy any success.
They have been generous and in my eyes one the best we ever had.

15 Mar 2016 00:24:25
Hi eds
Any idea of what's happened to jack Dunn?
He's not on loan and looked a great prospect last few years But got unjured.
Tks.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - you said it, he suffered injuries and it ruined his progress.}

14 Mar 2016 23:35:13
Ed 1 - what are your thoughts on ngolo kante? Would you rate him in the top 5 midfielders in the Prem?

What a player. I am more impressed each time I watch him play. Any idea if he will move in the summer and which sides have shown interest?

Believable2 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - I love him as a player, I was saying on one of the sites how he has been like having 3 in midfield on his own at times. The lad is incredible. On form alone he has been the best midfielder in the Prem this season. The only question is whether he can do this every season or if he is having a purple patch.}

15 Mar 2016 05:41:15
He is a fantastic player and one of the best in that position. When most other teams field 3 CM for stability, Leicester played with 2 CM home and away. Fantastic on the ball.

15 Mar 2016 12:09:17
In France, midfield players like Kante are called "Le Poumon de l`equipe" as in "The Team`s Lung". This is used to describe a midfielder capable of literally covering every blade of grass on the pitch. Some teams have one and it makes them really good like Spain had with Marcos Senna at Euro 2008. Leicester with Drinkwater and Kante, have two which makes them an unplayable midfield.

14 Mar 2016 23:15:25
Just pondering. We've had issues breaking down teams who sit back and let us have possession outside the area. Could it be that since Gerrard left, we have nobody, bar Coutinho at times, who is willing to have a crack from 25 yards out? Teams know this so don't come charging out when a midfielder has the ball in a bit of space. They expect us to try and work an opening so are in no hurry to open up a space for us. They don't seem too bothered when we get the ball out wide as we are little threat from crosses, particularly with the big money man being on the bench. Thoughts?

Believable2 Unbelievable6

15 Mar 2016 01:30:31
A dimension potentially given to us next year in Grujic.

15 Mar 2016 02:16:24
Before Firmino found his feet and Sturridge was back fully fit I would of agreed. Take the Man U game, 6 saves for De Gea that night? How many of them were from outside the box?
Coutinho, Firmino and Origi are all working hard to break defenders down.

15 Mar 2016 04:52:24
Arsenal rarely shoot from outside the box under Wenger yet they play attractive football an more often than not get results. It would be nice to have someone who can smack a pile driver every now and then but probably not essential for success.

15 Mar 2016 05:43:40
We have no real goal threat from our CM players. We haven't scored one from free kick since Gerrard left and our passing range has also been terrible. Gerrard as much as fault for his positional sense made up with his fine range of passing or brilliant set piece deliveries.

15 Mar 2016 08:34:50
Gerrard stopped shooting from range long before he left.

15 Mar 2016 10:20:17
Think you'll find Coutinho scored a free-kick against West Ham a few weeks back!

But yes we desperately need a set piece taker, we haven't been been a threat from corners or free-kicks since Suarez and Gerrard left.

Anyone know why we loft corners in instead of whipping them in with pace which tends to cause a lot more problems and panic from defenders?

15 Mar 2016 11:45:25
Simply scarface, we're crap at set pieces.

Set piece specialist is key this summer. They can turn matches on their head from nothing, regardless of the balance of play, and can ruin your own game if you concede from one out of the blue.

15 Mar 2016 12:00:48
Hendo and Can regularly shoot from range, and Frim does as well when he wants to. We take plenty of shots from outside the box, they just aren't often that good.

Someone does need to stay late and practise set plays though.

15 Mar 2016 12:13:05
We are indeed aweful at shooting from long range and at set piece deliveries so you shouldn`t be sgocked we don`t score from them. This comes down to coaching and hardwork on the training pitch. Grujic has a good shot on him as I`ve seen but I wouldn`t pressure on him as he`s just a kid although Klopp rates him highly.
