Interesting comparison between Barkley and Suso earlier. Here are some stats for the record (from WhoScored).

Suso - Apps 24 Subs 6, Goals 2, Assists 7, Avg Rating 6.76
Barkley - Apps 22 Subs 9, Goals 5, Assists 0, Avg Rating 6.95

Now a quick comparison of teams, Almeria are 19th in La Liga, Everton are currently 5th. Almeria have scored 34 goals, Everton have 55. Almeria also have a lower rating as a team of 6.68 and Everton are rated at 7.01. Almeria have lost 19 games as well, Everton have won the same number.

Suso has contributed to 9/34 goals which is just over a quarter of all their goals, Barkley's contribution is 5/55, one in eleven; from a similar number of appearances. As one poster noted earlier "Suso is on the bench for a relegation team, Barkley is playing first team for a team aiming for champion's league" is simply not the case with Suso having started more games.

Now obviously Suso has been playing further forward on the right wing and Barkley is playing more centrally in midfield. However, for us Suso will either be a number 10 or play deeper in the midfield.

Suso leads the stats for most assists by an Almeria player by 4, while Barkley has yet to score one. Credit to Barkley for scoring more goals, but his team have also been scoring more.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Different league is a huge factor

Agree0 Disagree0

Dezy them stats are still very impressive. Although it's a different league they are still by far a worse team then Everton

True I mean in terms of space and time on the ball though like palace and stoke are to games that probably never watched spanish football lol but to be fair suso should be brought back and deservedly so

The Etihad stadium was only three quarters full today. Its like their fans don't care anymore and just expect city to win just by turning up. They've been spoilt too much.

Evening Reds,

Just saw Pellegrini's post match interview. He said he thought there was a lot missing from the team, and that they still had the Liverpool game on their mind. This is an example of what we can psychologically do to teams. That first half it's no exaggeration to say we absolutely blew them away. I don't think they ever faced that level of pressure before. Hope we can do the same to Norwich and Chelski.

The sun is shining on you boys.

Or should I say the Sunderland?, lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why am I not stoked about it? I understand if we win 3 games and draw w/ chelsea we win the league, but its no easy task.

Agree0 Disagree0

Palace brightend your spirits mate? Really is up to us not to lose to chelsea now

Agree0 Disagree0

First its up to us to beat Norwich, then we can think about the chelsea game. guess who chelsea are playing next?

Have some faith mate. Who said it was an easy task?
What was basically said is that it has been a task made easier!

Why are we still saying we want champions league? I don't get it.

Although I would be made up with champions league, I really feel we can go to the wire.
Why not start believing we can win the Premier league?

Everyone has their own tales to tell when it comes to supporting a football team, i'm a Nottinghamshire lad so really shouldn't have any connection with Liverpool FC, when I was a kid younguns followed who were winning as a rule if not your local club.for me. I was sat at Grandmas house on Leverton rd and she put the tv on, football was on and I asked who were the team in red. Liverpool she said, well that was it, it could have been Barnsley, Forest, anyone in red. but it wasnt, I've seen them through bad times and good, the Heysel and Hillsborough disasters, and the winning of European cups etc, but this year would be special if we could only win the damn thing again, just for the 96 so cruelly taken from us at nothing more than a standard football match, kids, fathers, grandads and mothers all cruelly taken from us at a place where anyone could have been on the day from any club given a different set of circumstances. This year of all years would be perfect

So Palace have rocked the Blue dream of Everton being Champions League hosts. I must admit even before tonight I was concerned that Palace would have a big bearing on the title what with facing City and hosting us as their final home game of the season you have to feel they will be well up for those games despite being safe from relegation. Does anyone else share my concerns that Palace pose more of a threat than Chelsea?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It will be a really tough game, it would make it all the sweeter though, on the other hand Chelsea and Mourinho now know that if they win all their remaining games the title is theirs so that game will also be a very difficult one.

Someone somewhere is smiling down on us. It's almost as if this is pure fate unravelling before our very eyes. Every week that passes, the dream slowly becomes a reality. What a stunning climax this could be to round off the fitting tributes that have been paid to the 96 over the last week. Keeping everything crossed now for the next four weeks. Ken, make sure you don't lose them pants any time soon!

Ok, I'm going to start this statement by saying I'm an optimist, but I'd like to follow up by saying I'm not crazy.
It's safe enough to say, nobody saw us winning the league this year at the beginning of the season, and many thought we hadn't got a hope of CL football again. But that's not the case.

We are genuine front runners for the title. We have CL football next year. We have one hell of a manager. So big name players aren't crazy targets.

In the January transfer window, if names like Reus, Hummels, Hulk, Cavani etc, came up, they'd be laughed at. But I think I'm not alone when I say we could sign one or two big names like these and make our team favourites for next years title, regardless of what happens in the last stage of this season.

Imagine players like Reus and Hulk in a red shirt. It's not crazy, so back to my first statement, be optimistic. YNWA

Its so tempting to phone the number to see what it is but ill refrain

Agree0 Disagree0

Reus wouldn't work unless Suarez was sold, Hulk wouldn't work for the same reason, Cavani just won't be coming (doesn't fit our style at all). Hummels isn't needed Skrtel has been amazing and Sakho has the other CB position on lock for next season.

That being said I understand what you mean but we aren't ready to sign players who need to be pampered, imo. I would still rather have hungry players like Kovacic (who could be an excellent heir to Gerrard's throne) and Muriel (who just needs the right environment to thrive in).

It brings me a lot of pleasure to hear people finally giving Skrtel the credit he really deserves. There has been a noticeable step up in his performances this season. Before this season, I always thought that he was a solid centre back, but there's no doubt he has improved during this current campaign. He is defensively sound and aerially dominant, he has pace, he's confident in possession, and now he's chipping in with goals. Quality player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to admit I wanted him to move on last summer, but he has really put a stint in this season and has played a crutial role defensively at times as well as offering a real threat at set pieces for us. He still frightens the she*p out of me though sometimes when he's climbing all over opposing attackers in the box, and like on sunday punching the ball, can't quite believe he's got away with it all season. Not sure about the pace thing btw.

Hey guys & ed's

Just wondering something that hasn't really been posted on here, in terms of what teams you think are going to be relegated this season?
My prediction with only a few games left is Cardiff, Sunderland & Norwich (due to their tough run in & fulham's improvement under Magath)

Also out of the relegated sides are there any players that you would like to see at Liverpool?
Again my personal choice would be Adam Johnson if Sunderland go down, assuming we could get him for roughly 7-9 million? He could be a very useful squad player to replace Moses/Assaidi in my opinion.

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't know that I would expect anyone coming in from any of the relegated sides, but for me I do think Marshall has been very good at Cardiff as has Medel. For some reason I like Snodgrass as well although I don't think he's near the level of player we need.

Hi everyone, long time reader but first time poster. Just wanted to ask the eds and reds their opinion and something.

If suarez can lead Liverpool to the premier league title and/or Diego Costa can win la liga/UCL and then have an impressive World Cup, do you think they could win the ballon dor ahead of the usual big 2?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I doubt it, wasn't it sneijder who won a lot and came 2nd in World Cup and still came third

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, but it could be said that suarez and costa have individually performed at the same level as messi and ronaldo this year and could potentially win more, whereas sneijder and Ribery, although winning lots, weren't as individually as impressive.

Ssn reports

"Liverpool are optimistic striker Daniel Sturridge will be fit for this weekend's game against Norwich."

vrcomp
Y.N.W.A.

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually think we should maybe take the chance to give Sturridge a break. He's not been at his outstanding best for the last few weeks, and he and Suarez both seem to be getting a little frustrated with each other. We simply can't afford to have a striker not 100% fit or trying to get through a match at the moment. On the other hand, Sterling is playing out of his skin and Coutinho was great against City. I would play a front three of Sterling and Coutinho either side of Suarez. I think this will also get Suarez firing again. Lucas and Allen come in to play alongside Gerrard in midfield.

Suarez and Sturridge have been sensational this season - it's largely down to them that we're in the position we are but we need to be ruthless now. Get Sturridge 100% fit and then go all out with our attacking front four against Chelsea.

But whether you were born in Anfield or in India, raised as a fan by your dad or converted by a feeling of kinship watching the club's years of struggle for premier league success -whether you watch the game on the Kop, or from London or New York, once you become an LFC supporter it never leaves you.

Let suso go?!
Suso is technicallly superior to ross barkley, the boy is excelling in la liga whilst some fans tout.for will hughes who has been decent in the championship. Suso will be a great great player IMO. For those disregarding him soo easily, you clearly do not watch the boy play or his performances in spain.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said. If we let Suso get away, we will regret it one day. The guy is like a young David Silva.

Agree0 Disagree0

One is on the bench for almeria. and the other playing premier league football for a team 5th in the league & is influencing games. Suso is older also & mardy like a lot of Spanish footballers when things aren't going their way. The good things aren't how you judge a young player you balance how often they do bad things (the risk) which is high with Suso against how often they make a defense splitting pass or score a goal which are again low.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suso on the bench? He's played almost every game hasn't he?

Agree0 Disagree0

Cleverley played for a title winning team last year

Agree0 Disagree0

Suso is going nowhere. the club really rate him. that's why they sent him on loan to get experience for next year, otherwise they would have just moved him on

Agree0 Disagree0

Technically suso maybe better, but Barkley is stronger, probably quicker and is far advanced in his development than suso! He also works harder, can tackle and head better than suso

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2014 17:42:00
Well said bobatron.

Agree0 Disagree0

Conbicks, what you have done is the same mistake the entire England coaching system makes. "Strong and quick for his age" are not always the best qualities, Barkley probably won't get bigger or quicker but Suso could. Suso is much better technically which is what we should be looking at.

Look at a lot of the recent great players - messi, iniesta, xavi, pirlo, even scholes (loved by pirlo and gaurdiola). How many of these were "strong and quick for their age"?

Agree0 Disagree0

Barkley has played roughly the same number of minutes as Sterling and Countiho, yet has 22 tackles to Sterling's 31 and Coutinho's 49. I'm pretty sure most would agree Sterling and Coutinho are both smaller than Barkley, yet they both have quite a few more tackles. Go figure.

Agree0 Disagree0

Coutinho small but tackled like a demon at the weekend, size and power means very little. Comments here reflect English football's typical preoccupation with big strong guys over technical ability. Diame anybody?!

Agree0 Disagree0

All great players to be honest.

Lets not get petty and talk about tackling statistics.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not petty, it's accurate. Barkley may be 'a big strong lad' or whatever but that doesn't necessarily translate to he can tackle better or he works harder, which is the point.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just seen sterlings stats for this season 12 goals an five assists that's really impressive, he's only really playing regularly in the second half of the season.

On a different note, how good was Milner when he came on against us, totally changed the game round for them, apparently available for 8/10m I'd take that in a heart beat!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think its more like 8 goals (7pl and 1 league cup) and 6 assists, which is pretty impressive in itself considering he had 1 goal and 0 assists uptill the start of December

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling has been immense. The composure he showed for his age was tremendous.

On a different note, milner would be an excellent addition.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2014 12:57:42
I honestly really wanted Roberto Martinez at Liverpool.

In the end we probably got the better manager of the two anyway, but Roberto is a worthy opponent to have across the park!

Great speach from him, I wish Everton the best of luck in their quest for 4th. I'm sick of Arsenal qualifying for the competition every year and consistently failing to do anything even close to winning it. It gets boring. I think they've been in one final in like the last 15 years and lost it. At least Liverpool, United and Chelsea go in it to win it. Wengers trophy is qualifying and getting out of the groups with a team of U21's. I really hope Arsenal sack the fool and get someone like Uwe Rosler in. Another young attacking coach with some desire to win.

Agree0 Disagree0

Come one man wenger isn't that bad, feel like I need to defend him here. I like arsenal and I'd prefer them to fourth place and fa cup too.

I also hope everton are in it till the end and get a result against man city

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2014 14:32:43
Wenger has managed Arsenal for just over 1000, games. His last trophy was won on his 497th. 500+ games without a trophy despite having players like Henry, Fabregas, Campbell, Van Persie etc is pathetic. He plays beautiful football and shows great faith in youth but for a decade now his big transfers have been pitiful. Ozil being the latest in line. He's become too focused on a philosophy and football has moved on leaving Arsenal behind. I love them as a club and fanbase. They deserve a better tactician than Arsene 'whats plan B?' Wenger.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's hard to find fault with Martinez. Positive, polite, professional and personable. The Merseyside clubs have two of the best young managers/coaches in world football. While the Bitters can wind me up sometimes when push come to shove i'd rather Everton do well (after us) than just about any other team. That sort of fair-minded ness is precisely what winds Evertonians up. They are the complete opposite having had it rammed down their throat for so many years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Couldn't agree more with the above sentiments and I'm not too pushed who gets fourth although I actually fancy Everton to knick it even after last night but I think the fact that neither the press or seemingly anyone om a Liverpool fan site has a bad word to say about Martinez as a man or manager is a credit to him

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Apr 2014 09:57:04
Reading about man city's problems with ffp rules, the losses they have made over the last couple of years and how uefa might disallow them from playing in cl makes me think we might not spend too big again in the summer.

Perhaps we'll spend big on just one players (lb or lw) and try to find low priced talented players

And I get it if we do that as it is much important to be sustainable in the long term

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We do not need to spend big on players this summer
As the extra 15 million from winning the league (smiles ) and the cl money will put us a lot closer to breaking even
A LB Coentrao/Schmelzer (he will be expensive)
CM Rakitic / Tadic (My choice an absolute assist machine)
LW Konoplyanka (the guy is genuine class) /Fischer (really talented for 19)
All three will cost no more than 55 million some useful sales and we can reduce the net spending to 30 million ish
What I don't get is why people keep throwing 30-40 million players
They got to realize is that we are not in a position to buy them unless everybody wants us to go broke

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There will not be any CL money in this Financial Year.}

No cl money means no to a cm it isn't a glaring need plus we got suso coming back
cost cutting lads

Hi Eds/reds

I think a quality summer would see us but Rakitic, Konoplyanka and Richards- probably for a total of £45m or so. I understand the concerns about Richards, but he's a classic Rodgers buy. A player who showed great potential a couple of years ago but hasn't had the chance to fulfil it at his club. We need competition for Glen, who is pretty inconsistent these days- hot and cold. If we let the likes of Suso, Assaidi, Coates and Reina go, that should bring in the better part of £20m and make it financially viable.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would take that.

PaulFlan,

My problem isn't Micah Richards, it's Martin Kelly, Jon Flanagan, Andre Wisdom and Ryan McLaughlin.
Buying Micah Richards means these players go down the pecking order and do not get the chance that I think they deserve.
I think if any defender comes it will be a left back to replace Aly Cissokho and compete with Jose Enrique.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Richards alot, but right back is probably our area of least concern. If we got rid of Toure, Skrtel or Agger and moved Kelly to CB then maybe maybe but that still leaves Ilori with no place at CB and Flano, Johnson, Wisdom and Mclaughlin competing with Richards. Doesn't make sense as much as I like Richards.

Left back will be addressed before we touch right back I would guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the replies

Do you think these players are at the required level though? I worry about Kelly with so many injuries at such a tender age, and Wisdom's poor positional awareness has concerned me when he has had chances. I'm not sure how he has performed at Derby but they're doing pretty well so maybe you're right on that account. I prefer Flan at left back as he's really made that position his own- I'd love to see a good tussle between him and Enrique next year with each one keeping the other on his toes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Richards will pick up around £70k- £80k a week to sit and watch each match from the comfort of his home after getting injured in his debut for the club. The guy cannot play a full season without picking up some sort of injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Flanagan is useful certainly, but he offers little attacking threat out wide especially when we play narrow he isn't one to provide width on his left foot. I am almost 100% certain we will see a senior left back come in (Robinson should be sold, just isn't good enough unfortunately)

I would probably be more in favour of selling Johnson and giving Flanagan the right back spot to compete with Kelly and potentially Wisdom. Richards is also very injury prone too, problem with both him and Kelly.

I think with Wisdom defensive positioning usually comes with age and and good leader in the back 4. Also he had played at CB I believe for the u21s and he was put in a right back to cover for Johnson and Kelly in the seniors may explain being caught in poor positions.

If we aren't going to use him this season maybe a loan to another premier league side would do him well see if he can make it through a full season and perform well in the prem, preferably a team who like to pass the ball (Swansea? Maybe a promoted team?)

Being a Liverpool fan from Australia, I did not truly understand the significance of this tragedy and the lies that followed until I was old enough to research and learn myself. I can only imagine what the city went through at the time of the tragedy.
Fans all over the globe are with you, keep on fighting the fight, and may the 96 rest in piece.

For a bit of fun can everyone tell me below what made them pick there usernames, maybe get some funny stories going. Me personally, I picked the name "Rookie" as it was the nickname of my favourite character from the video game Gears Of War :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No funny story I'm afraid. Simply cause I'm an archaeologist

Agree0 Disagree0

When I was little, I loved playing fantasy games, but since Dragon was always taken as a user name, I modified it to Drigan, and declared myself High King of the elves; it somehow stuck with me, and I still use it here and there.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was in Hong Kong for a day, when I saw a market stall with square fruit! Was so strange, so I picked square tomato as my name, plus they're red ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Literally have 99 problems but it would take forever to list them all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Took my username from the 1st pair of goalie gloves I bought when I was a nipper.

Agree0 Disagree0

I chose it simply so I could pipe up everytime a poster asked the Eds 'am I blocked?'

Agree0 Disagree0

There were 5 Robert's in my class at school and I inherited Bob as my nickname.
The tron bit came from the fact I have a dry sense of humour and little emotions, a character of the same name is scrubs is alikened to my personality and they take the mick by calling him the bobatron (like a robot, no emotions) It kind stuck and 10 years later it's my username for everything

Agree0 Disagree0

See now I KNEW each one of you where going to say that!

When travelling I was given the nickname Porno Seano by my Aussie mates in the Northern Territory.

I'm from Sydney and dreamed of getting to Liverpool as a kid. I always said I'd swim in the Mersey because I'd be so happy to be there.

In 2006, I did it. Cut my foot on the stone at the bottom as it wasn't as deep as I thought where I jumped in. So I was also a Merseybleeder.

I'm a Liverpool fan who lives in Northamptonshire. God dam my reason is boring. Not even going to ask why they call you Porno Seano!

Agree0 Disagree0

Self explanatory.

I'm a red from the deep south (of England ;))

Agree0 Disagree0

Real name is Lee, and was trying to think unsuccessfully of something cool and witty when creating a user name. Red Lee, nah, Anfield Lee boring, Lee. Lee. , and then a moment of inspiration hit me (not), haha!. (Even then I forgot to put the bloody space in).

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm an american & I am a red since 1983. The only name that makes sense.

Learpholl is the Irish (Gaelic) word for Liverpool. and I'm Irish!

My reasoning isn't too exciting either but as I'm the 2nd Kevin Bennett in my family and most people refer to the old man as just 'Bennett' so. I'm Bennett Jnr

My username used to be 'United Kolours Of Bennetton' {because at that particular time a series of relationships within my family got better and/or people got engaged/married etc and there are a few different races and cultures throughout my family} and I changed the 'C' to 'K' on colours to go with my name :)

I like to fish here in Florida when not watching the reds :) nothing too clever

I wanted choose South East but it was already taken by a Norwich fan so I decided to support Liverpool.

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure you'll find a woman one day who will let you drop the V.}

My family and friends know I am insane about the reds, when people ask me if I am a Liverpool fan, I always say no I am more, I am a LFC Fanatic, but the user name was taken so went for something else; Insane for the Reds; RedSanity. just put myself to sleep there:)

Celtic mythology mate, from the Ulster cycle. Cuchulainn was the hound of Culainn so it's realyly just a play off that. Love his story for the most part.

I've taken my name from the nickname given to John Barnes by his teammates when he played for Liverpool. A truly outstanding player.

I asked a tongue-in-cheek question on the conspiracy page (as you would have to if you read it) and called myself Puzzled (because I was)

My one is pretty easy to get. Luis Suarez joined in 2011 (when I was playing a war strategy game online) and people were talking about this guy whose nickname was El Pistolero; The gunslinger.

There was a manc on this game who I obviously hated with a passion and I finally beat him on the weekend that Suarez nutmegged all of their players to set up Kuyt for the goal so I added insult to injury by naming myself after Suarez. The username sort of stuck from then & I use it everywhere now.

By making reference to my most common alias, it serves as a reminder to myself that any escape or relief I find in football is temporary and the reality of the life I've chosen continues irrespective of the fact I choose to take a break and watch a match.

Mine comes from when I was the singer in a Rock/Metal band 3 years back called Long Day Fear, it was my nickname on the circuit, everyone wore the usual black stuff etc but I always had a shirt and tie and shoes. just to be controversial lol, its stuck ever since and is still in use in the 2 bands i'm in now The Filthy Rich and The Meeowmers. Happy days!

Haven't posted on my own site for a while, due to my own loss, but wanted to come on to yours today.

I know it's just one more post, but I hope all you Liverpool fans know that you aren't walking alone at this time every year.

Keep fighting the good fight.

Just got home. Drove up from Hampshire today. Had to be there this once. I am not from Liverpool but when Roberto said the authorities took on the wrong City I had to cheer as I felt like one of you. What it must have been like to be from Liverpool in those early years after the tragedy is hard to understand. I never believed the lies but it was hard to defend at times.
I think I really understood the respect for EFC today and will always refer to their manager by his first name in future, a man of true class and only in the job for 10 months.
I have to say to the present players, Please win the League, but if they don't, we are still the best and always will be.

Ed001 there is soo much hype around ross barkley, .wherever the boy ends up do you see him.becoming a worldclass' midfielder?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I don't know where Ed001 has gotten to today, but much is expected of Barkley - "world class" is an entirely subjective term.}

He has the potential to go very far however having potential and realising that potential are 2 different things. Remember Anthony "next Zidane" Le Tallec?
