Assaidi looks a good player ,we need this type of player fast tricky and gutsey ,if only we hadnt of wasted all that money on kennys signings last summer ,only thing is for 3 million at 24 years old i think i wouldnt be expecting a Ronaldo but even a new luis garcia and id be happy ,suppose we shifted kuyt bellamy and maxi so there wages alone for a couple of months will pay for the 3 million transfer of Assaidi and add another young player to the ranks with much needed pace that we seem to haved lacked in recent seasons,
jeff:)

Yeah watch a youtube clip and read his wikipedia page and you know everything about him.

What I like most re. The Assaidi signing. We went for Tello, he dragged his feet, we signed someone out of left field. We have serious back up options, and are not going to be held ransom by players or clubs. Restoring our negotiating reputation a tad. What a difference a year makes. I am so amped for this coming season...bring it on

hi ed i think with the winger from heerenven close to signing and 1 0r 2 possible loan signings arriving i think that is our mid field and attacking options covered and maybe dempsey coming in if a deal can be sorted with fulham. i also think that we will only bring in a centre back if one was is sold, but i really think we need to buy a goal keeper have there been any interst in any . cheers tom {Ed001's Note - yes, De Vries.}

Hi Ed's
Have we ever looked at Oussama Assaidi or MBark Boussoufa?
Cheers {Ed002's Note - Assaidi looks to be Fulham bound. Boussoufa will not be for sale and his wages would not be matched by Liverpool. Historically I don't know if there was interest.}

Only post I could find regarding our new player assaidi.

Unsigned.

Alright, logically speaking I think I understand how things are going at lfc. The owners clearly haven't lied about our budget when they quoted we would have £30 mill budget. If you add the transfer fees of the players we have brought in it is equivalent to £29 mill. We are getting sahin on loan so obviously it's just wages we would be paying for.

Once that has all been completed, we would have to sell to buy. The players we are considering selling are Carroll, Adam, spearing and Pacheco. Only then will we go in for one other player. Probably Walcott or Dempsey or maybe even another suprise but he will be a player that can play any 3 positions up front, including striker.

Finally agger signs a new contract whilst all this is happening. Everything will be done from now right down to the wire.

This is just logical thinking. So it might not turn out this way.

Gotta luv this! Cunning signing, bargain price, looks to be a skilled winger who cuts inside. Ramirez anyone, but at 20% of Ramirez price...

And best of all: no other club sniffing around skyrocketing the price!

Well I hope its a bargain and not a waste of 3m ..The boy come carrying an attitude similar to that of his international team mate Taarabt, and can be just as skilful.
I doubt he will be ahead of Downing.
Roy

Ramirez is more of a kaka type player.
Assadi is more of a ronaldo type player.

20%? he cost 2.4m

X that by 5 and you get £12m

i'd say around 18% Heheehe

Hi guys/gals/eds,Like most of us on here was taken by surprise by the assaidi signing a player I had never heard of so I contacted a friend in holland who knows his football(hes from l,pool) he told me this guy is very good & would have been better known if hed been playing in a better team,he likened him to a Liverpool winger named Alan Acourt who played for Liverpool & england many years ago when they were not so good he says that hes fast and two footed,lets hope hes as good as alan was if so were in for some exciting times(godin),

16 Aug 2012 20:53:14
I think we should send Bijev, Eccleston, Ngoo and Sama on loan to teams in the Eredivisie.

leave these Northamptons, Rochdales and co behind

16 Aug 2012 20:49:59
Should we rule out Tello now that we've signed Assaidi?

16 Aug 2012 20:49:56
So while everyone was lead to believe that Ian Ayre was helping himself to some more tapas, he was actually in a dutch coffee shop! Legendary!

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Let's hope he wasn't smoking something funny before buying this latest player

But im sure he did go to Spain to enquire about sahin and tello. One being successful and another not.

16 Aug 2012 20:41:41
The Tello deal is by no means dead. Although a permanent signing is out of the question, a loan deal isn't. Barca may still be keen to allow him to go out on loan to gain experience.
If anything a loan is now more likely.

That would only happen if Carroll is sold

16 Aug 2012 20:41:35
Ossauma Assaidi - Right footed, plays LW for club, RW for country in a front 3 but can also play CAM. Reports show that he has improved alot over last season and can provide assists and goals. Any more info folks?

LFC Brazil

Bargain at 3 mil, wonder what he would have cost if he wasn't in the last year of his contract ? Hmmmm ...

16 Aug 2012 20:41:03
I'm just thinking a Benayoun in his prime
(under raffa) would have been PERFECT for BR's team.

Not much difference between Benny in his prime and our Luis except one is exceptionally better and is still with us

16 Aug 2012 20:40:08
Ramires seems to be a better option than walcott as he has more flair, better feet, intellegent and great dribbling. Although i'd love to see walcott at anfield, he's more of a AF/ Poacher than a winger. The width and creativity is what we need. The final product will be there this year as i do believe carroll will be used as he shows he can adapt and bring in strength and ariel presence.

Borrini top scorer for lfc 12/13

More Flair??

has Walcott not got flair? and dribbling you remember when he ripped our WHOLE team up right? when he was a teen. He ran through like 7 players.

I'd prefer walcott than ramirez tbh.

16 Aug 2012 20:39:51
this site is so addictive!

Assaidi had his 24th birthday only yesterday ! Hes definitely an experienced player for his tender years
Well done LFC for keeping this one under the radar, otherwise Im sure spurs would have bid for him !

a really exciting young prospect for us and sounds like Brendans learning how to handle the rumour machine maybe?

tel 1949

Ha good dig about spuds, I was starting to think our scouts were sending there reports to levy as well as Brendan ha.

What a birthday present!

16 Aug 2012 20:37:25
Aissaidi is a very technically gifted player, young and pacy. I personally am very impressed with the astute purchases BR has made so far. I can see why he paid 15M for Allen as he keeps possession of the ball and will not give it away cheaply, he will also help BR implement his football philosophy amongst the team quicker than if BR had to work with players he hadn't worked with previously. This in itself is worth 15M to the club. Going back to Aissaidi, he is a much better purchase than Walcott would have been as he is technically better and a fraction of the cost (his wage is £21k a week). Well done BR.
YNWA
Frodo

I think we could still get Walcott. I would love Walcott here, I think he'd do well for us.

And cost £2.4m

16 Aug 2012 20:34:59
First time poster long time follower, loving the site guys, been a regular reader for a long time now!
Quick question...if we are seemingly close to gaining another player in the form of Assaidi does this close the door on any potential approach for Theo Walcott? Would love to see him in the red of Liverpool but i just cant see it happening....especially with Arsene losing RVP to a rival premier league team.
Cheers guys.

16 Aug 2012 20:29:20
my god where did tht signing come from , any body knw anything about him , isnt it class how the club is doing their business now all behind closed doors i thinkits brilliant !!!

That's because people thought it was a joke when they heard i.

Ridiculously impressive how no one saw this coming...the media have sources everywhere and people make up rumours, etc...yet no info until it was done...wow

16 Aug 2012 20:28:30
Assaidi so good! I, like most people I presume, didn't know a lot about this fella until 15 minutes ago and youtube makes them all look great yeah....but he's fast, tricky and has an eye for goal and for 3 million we've snapped up some talent before he went to Ajax and his value soared. So all this is good, a calculated risk on a skilful young player and a reasonable price tag. But none of this is the main reason Assaidi makes me so happy - its the fact that NOBODY KNEW!! We've gone and identified a target and completed a deal with no leaks, no creating competition or inflating prices. well done to BR and his team - they have managed to change the culture at Anfield especially wiith regard to transfer dealings. Also its nice to gain more and more understanding of the style BR wants from the players he targets - I can see exactly how this pacy winger/forward fits into the 3 pronged attack; if he settles quick (and thats a big if) Suarez, Borinin and him could do some real damage. Speed, speed and lovely lovely pace - for sooooo long lacking at Anfield - Br is really beginning to impress me. Also, I gotta say, where will this leave Joe Cole as this Assaidi looks like he can do everything that Cole can just a lot faster! Nice one Brendan!

As prevoiusly posted, we don't have a lot of money to spare at LFC (unfortunately). Let me just refresh what is happening......If Agger was sold we had money to spend....Alas(and thank god he is staying) we have less 'kitty' money to flash about.

If we sold adam (5.5m) and carroll (17) we'd have plenty to spend. £22.5m can go along way we'd have enough to get a Class addition in the price range of 14-17m and another to strengthen the squad.

Sahin loan
Kevin Gameiro £15m

Assaidi (2.4m) was essentially bought with kuyt and bellamy fee's. 2m for bellamy and 500k for kuyt.

Borini, Allen, Assaidi, Sahin, Gameiro

reina, jones, gulacsi
johnson, enrique, kelly, robinson, flanagan
skrtel, agger, carragher, coates, wilson, sama
gerrard, lucas, allen, sahin, shelvey, henderson, spearing
suarez, gameiro, dempsey, borini, downing, assaidi

reina
johnson, skrtel, agger, enrique
allen lucas, sahin
gameiro, borini, suarez,

jones, kelly, coates, gerrard, henderson/shelvey/spearing, downing, assaidi.

Yes, we dont have money to spend.
We have only spend 29 mil this year.

16 Aug 2012 20:22:18
So glad we have signed this guy for 3 million, have never seen him play, however looks pretty good and is not a rip off for once! BR you know how to do business!

16 Aug 2012 20:21:37
I remember seeing Assaidi being linked with Ajax and thought this is the sort of player we will be linked with in 2 years tme and will have to pay 20million.

Nice to see BR widening his net and getting this guy before he becmes a household name. I know we shouldn't take youtube as reference but great technically with pace is just what we need. And all for 3million!With Sahin to join the squad is taking shape. Just need to ship out Carroll, Adam and Spering.

so on the same day the sign R.V.P we sign an absolute nobody from the dutch league ...... not getting on rodgers back (fully support him) but it just shows how far we have fallen.

You're an person. He is meant to become a replacement for Belles or Maxi and damn he is one good replacement

Or shows JH and TW are learning quickly and are very shrewd. RVPs wages alone are almost 10 times what Assaidi will be on.

RvP was once a nobody from the Dutch league

Joe

Hoe much did Arsenal pay for RVP. or Newcastle for Cabaye or Tiote?

Was R.V.P a household name when Arsenal signed him for 2.75m. As we have learned(or hoped we had) paying big bucks doesn't guarantee anything....

16 Aug 2012 20:06:57
Hey, I hope this guy is better than El Zarr!! lol

16 Aug 2012 20:06:15
It is getting better day by day. Borini and Allen will definitely improve us on last year ! We are told Sahin is imminent and HE will definitely improve us ! We have now signed this off-the-radar winger who I have never heard off, but I am certain the powers that be think he can do a job for us (and haven't we been wanting wingers?)
Now just make sure that we get Dempsey sorted quickly. Quality, aggressive goal-scorer is what we have been crying out for.
After that anyone else is a bonus for me ! Very, very confident about the new season (and I am not easily excited)

Puzzled

16 Aug 2012 20:06:10
West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce appears to have given up the pursuit of signing Andy Carroll after claiming a deal was never agreed with Liverpool for the striker.

curtusy of a website

16 Aug 2012 20:04:54
Personally really happy that the Assaidi signing has caught everyone by surprise!

It shows that LFC are still conducting their business in private like the 'good old days'.

I do think however that no one should use this to take a sneaky dig at the Eds. Information can come from loads of sources like player agents for example. just seems that Assaidi's agent does things properly too!

Admittedly never seen Assaidi play and like to take Youtube clips with a pinch of salt (I could be made to look like Messi if I had a decent editor). But the guy looks tricky and quick which is exactly what we need!

Happy Days all round! Dempsey, Sahin and possibly Tello and ill be a very happy Boy!

AGGER to stay!! Get in!

16 Aug 2012 20:03:09
Hopefully Assaidi works out, I doubt any of us have seen too much of him. His stats look good but it is the Dutch League. It's hard to say, it can go either way. Either the step up in league will be too much for him to handle or having more talented players around him will unlock even more of his potential. For 3 million, its worth it to find out.

It doesn't matter that he's come from the Dutch league, that's where Suarez came from remember? And every Dutch player ever! The question is: will be any good? We'll just have to wait and see.

Square Red

Suarez is from the dutch league :)

16 Aug 2012 20:02:58
My two cents is that it was between Tello and Assaidi. makes sense because assaidi is better than our current academy wingers (Sterling & Pacheco)

Sahin deal has nothing to do with it.

Must admit 100% didn't see that one

16 Aug 2012 20:01:41
This is what I like. From what I've seen, Assaidi looks a decent player with a lot of skill and pace. And for 3 million even if he doesn't work out atleast we won't have to hear people moaning about how much money we lost... wonderful signing. Imagine him cooming on with 30 minutes to go and trying too go past tiring defenders.

PakiRed.

16 Aug 2012 20:00:26
hya just wondering is dempsey still on his way

16 Aug 2012 20:08:04
It is an embarrassment some of the comments on the official Liverpool website under the news that we have agreed a fee for the young lad Assaidi. I am ashamed to support the same club as some of these people.

It is obvious that Rodgers has been attempting to convince Tello to move to Liverpool but have failed so this kid was our plan B. From looking at the video he looks very tricky but it is hard to draw any conclusions from it. But just because he is not a household name some of the comments about him, the club and manager are disgusting.

Just for the record I can think of two players who cost under £3m from the Dutch league who went on to do well, RVP and our very own Hyypia.

This is the type of player that if Newcastle were about to sign him, everyone would be asking why can't we find these hidden gems. For the amount of money we're paying it looks a no-brainer.

As I said, from the video he looks a good player, whether he is the new John Barnes or the new Mark Gonzales remians to be seen.

HI you captured my thoughts spot on (godin)

I wouldn't call them supporters JRG mate, fans is a more appropriate term.

Who is Oussama Assaidi? Haha hope he's good. Is it a Nunez? Or a Hypia? Time will tell. Maybe this means dempsey is off?hoping that Sahin is as a definite as people keep saying. He will be magic. Lucas, Allen, Sahin will be the classiest midfield in the prem. Suarez, borini, gerrard will be equally feared for its pace, movement, tenaciousness and creativity. Wowsers I'm excited for the start now.
CQ
Ps thanks again to all the Canadian reds for helping with tv queries regarding games.
{Ed008's Note - Can't really compare him to Hyypia different types of players but he looks exciting! Liverpool have got a player in him.

Hey ed yeah I was meaning more value than anything to do with positions etc

16 Aug 2012 19:56:07
Hi Eds, This is NOT just t say we've signed Assaidi, so please don't delete!

It is however about him, because I wanted to share my thoughts having seen him play many times. I watched a great deal of Heerenveen last year because I had my eye on Narsingh and Bost, but by the end of the season I was starting to think that Assaidi was actually the better player. I don't know if he can play on both wings but whenever I saw him he was playing on the left, and was very effective. He's direct, got bags of pace, and whereas I felt that Narsingh (who is still a decent player) sometime ran out of ideas, would slow down and lost the ball or put in a port cross (think Aaron Lennon), Assaidi's delivery and decision making were much quicker and of a better quality.

I'm not going to make any predictions about how he is going to do in England but at the price I feel it is a very good move and hope that just because nobody has heard of him they are not going to slag off the player or the manger before he has even had a chance. When you look at the almost total failure of the club to bring in decent out and out wingers over the past decade, this move can only be a step in the right direction. One other thing, don't let the fact that he's Moroccan put you off - I can guarantee you this kid is not another El Zhar!

Finally, how good to see the club managing to do a deal in complete secrecy. As far as I know nobody saw Rogers pulling this one out the hat. If I didn't like football rumours and want to try to get little snippets of information I wouldn't go on this site, but I think it says something good about the club that they can still go about their business with a degree of privacy.
-SH-

16 Aug 2012 19:55:18
I have to be honest, I like the left field nature of the signing of assaidi , let's face it, who had heard of Hyypia? there are bargains out there , the lad was in the last year of his contract and we beat Ajax, Spartak and Galatasary to him. Welcome to Anfield La.

16 Aug 2012 19:54:54
I will be the first to admit I don't have a clue who Assaidi is but I just love the way no one saw this one coming at all. I think links with Tello and Walcott must be a tad far fetched. It is the way it should be now at Melwood, the media don't have a clue what players we want and are after. I love it. Well done Rodgers.
The Gooch.

16 Aug 2012 19:54:02
If Rodgers is saying he doesn't have much money left after buying Allen and Boirini, we need to look at the bigger picture here folks,to me it is looking like Hicks and Gilette all over again,realistically they did not pump that much money in to OUR club bar buying it if you consider players bought and players sold wage bill reduced etc...the only thing the didn't say was a spade in the ground like the two clowns,so where is all the money that the club generate going...surely the club is making more than 8-9 mill that the put in to the club to buy players(bar paying for the club) hope they are not bringing it back to America to buy a few star baseball players!!!!

Red Dave

No, the club is not making £8-9M. It's making more like -£50M a year. Maybe a little less of a loss now that some are off the wage bill, but likely still a loss even moving forward.

you should be supporting the club not slagging them off!

The club makes a loss every week mate,,search the facts first

16 Aug 2012 19:35:40
Hi eds, brilliant site have been following for quite some time but never posted as of yet.
Completely surprised with the signing of this morrocan winger - is anyone with more knowledge of the player convinced he is of a good enough standard?
Good to hear from BR himself that the Agger situation seems finally resolved but would personally love to see Carroll staying - was impressed with his performances towards the end of the season for both us and England. Would be silly to let him go just as he's finding his feet in my opinion.
Concerning other signings I can't help feel that Sahin would be the only other new player coming in due to the lack of funds. Although I think the centre of the field is already more or less complete, unless we can shift a player on eg Adam.
Would like to see a late spree with perhaps Dempsey coming in but after BR's comments today I'm struggling to believe any more transfers will go through this summer after Sahin.
Keep up the good work eds

16 Aug 2012 19:45:29
Anyone got a view on this new boy? Cannot see him being a bit part player due to the fact we need to improve what we've already got having already got rid of bit part players in the form of Maxi, Kuyt etc so he must have some ability that can better us? Views anyone?

Looks a decent buy, fee around 3m i think!

fast, skillfull, versitile and good with both feet.

would link with suarez very well!
excited for the new season! you?

Just heard that Tottenham have just bid for Assaidi, AVB has reportedly been a huge fan of the Winger since hearing the agreement in place between Liverpool and Heerenveen.

Haha love this, seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if AVB has contacted Heerenveen about Assaidi since the agreement was made public.

16 Aug 2012 19:44:32
Been watching videos on you tube of Oussama Assaidi from Heerenveen. he looks very pacy with good skills , very mobile and looks quite long legged, watched him giving ajax players the runaround, if he can reproduce that for us he could be a very good signing.

he seems to be a winger/striker, walcott esque but with an end product.

cheers

I'd say its a good bet Suarez identified this guy for Rodgers,Rodgers took a look,liked what he saw,butta bing butta bang,looks good,young and cheap,happy days !! B

Rodgers has been scouting the Dutch league for a number of years. I bet he could tell Suarez about players at Ajax he hasnt even heard of.

watched his you tube clips i know they say this dosent tell the whole story but from the clips he shows some good dribbling maybe for 3 million he s worth a try

Lay off the lad he will very soon be a liverpool player , bet you had never heard of him till now so dont judge him negatively just yet , why dont you sign your name to your post so we can all laugh at you when you are raving about him in january . i have a good feeling about him , we need some silky skills !!..........andy.

Theo Walcott is one of the most over-rated players in world football... This lad i'll be honest i've never heard of him, but he must have somethin about him if Rodgers is getting him in, he scored 22 goals i 68 games, we need goals so welcome aboard i say, we struggled for goals last season so i'm sure this lad will chip in with the odd 1 or 2.

Rocky

That depends if you trust the judgmant of a bunch of football jounalists or our manager?
You ever given any thought to why succesful current champions league sides like City, Barca, Arsenal etc are letting these players leave?

Or being very purposeful and intelligent in the transfer window. Time will tell.

Assaidi looks a decent player, good to have some more options on the wings and more pace in the side, it was badly needed last year. Just read that it was his birthday yesterday, not a bad present! ha

having signed Assaidi from Heerenveen, I'm wondering where on earth this has come from? There has been no rumours in the papers, and none on here? I'm baffled.

Looked him up on YouTube and yes I know it can give a wrong idea about player but some of the goals he scored we're outrageous. He looks very exciting pacey and a bag of tricks. His goal record was 10 in 19 last season plus his finishing is quality. I think we may have found a hidden gem here.

Babel scored some pretty good goals in Holland too.

Hi -Whats the latest on Adam Johnson?? are everton fron runners surely not - why are our board so slow to react!sigurdsson first now johnson, wel be left with scraps yet again (hendo,carroll,downing)

We've just signed assaidi for 3m opposed to the minimum 12m it would cost for johnson, plus johnson is too lazy and has a bad attitude, hence his lack of action for city calm down an have a banana
antaintree

Do not worry about losing out on johnson to the blue sh**e if he goes there mate. I have it on very good authority that he thinks he is messi and never gets tired of telling everyone how great he is. when mancini decides to put him in the first team he invaribley lets down his teamates, never tracks back, forwards make half a dozen runs before he releases the ball and is an awful influence to younger players and a bit of a bad apple in the dressing room. but other than those little flaws ..... !

Ask ourself why are the Bluenoses the front runners on Kevin and Adam?.......Reason is they are both Average players! Would Kevin get in our squad?...if our targets come to fruition (Dempsey, Tello, Assaidi

Hi,

I'm just wondering does anyone think that all this Agger talk is now just posturing over a new deal?

a)Agent asks for too much money
b) Brendan Rogers goes on press conference and says every player has their price
c) Agger gets tattoo and says he doesn't want to leave
d) Agent asks for a bit less money
e) Club agree new deal?

Just a thought...

Thomas

Thomas,be cynical of the Agger "situation" if you wish but look at the facts. If his agent is ramping up his value by postulating on potential suitors, thereby securing his client the best possible contract available, is he not merely doing the job he's paid handsomely to do? I don't doubt for one minute a fair percentage of "Agent-Speak,"is economical with the truth. But top class footballers, of which Agger most definitely is, are precious commodities thesedays, thereby affording agents and other representatives colossal bargaining powers. I would, however, ask you Thomas if you'd would garner a permanent tatoo showing affiliation to any organisation you either didn't believe in or had deep seated affection for? That act in itself purveys in my opinion the stance of the player himself, and if you wish to promote underhand reasoning behind any transfer speculation regarding Agger then that's your entitlement. I see it completely differently. I believe Daniel respects andloves our club and supporters as much as we love having him. I don't care if this chain of events sees Aggers salary dramatically increased, I only hope for two things. One, he lines up against West Brom this weekend and two, he's fit and available for selection beyond the end of the transfer window.

Paul, Staffs.

Man U Have signed Van Persie and Kagawa, Arsenal have signed Podolski, giroud and Cazorla. Chelsea have signed Hazard and Marin. Liverpool have signed Borini, Allen and Oussama Assaidi (pending a medical).

If you think we are getting top for with these budget players, you can think again.
Teams get stronger and we have to keep up. I dont mean spend £35m on unproven British players, but spend money wisely on players that have already proven that they can play at the highest level.
We may not have CL but if the money is right we can still attract top players.

Lets hope we get a world class forward before the window closes because if Suarez gets injured can you really see Carroll and Borini filling his boots?

As for players we are looking to loan such as Tello and Sahin....Since when did we become a team looking to loan unproven players. Yes they have a lot of potential to be quality in the future, but we should be looking to buy quality, world class players.

Looks to me like these American owners are no better than their Predecessors.

Sorry for the rant guys, just don't fancy another season of being dissapointed every other week.

Your thoughts??

Red Lee

I agree. The problem is always going to be not having champions league to offer. I can't see us getting top 4. Chelsea have improved greatly - so have aresnal - then Manchester clubs. I can't see how we can get top 4 with the players we have.pretty football is one thing, winning games is another. I'm not convinced at all by what's gone on this summer.

I pray I'm wrong. Rafa by christmas with these signings.

Gazman

We could have signed the Brazilian National Team and you'd be comparing them to:-
Kagawa ( is he any good in the EPL )
Nick Powell ( never played higher than 3rd tier of English football )
Giroud - French League
Podolski - no top German team wanted him.
Cazorla- looks a good player.
We have signed:-
Borini - played in English football - looks a good player
Allen - proven PL player
Assaidi - haven't a clue, but who knows.

John B

I for one am really looking forward to the new season. It's easy to be negative and expect little but I for ne have had a good feeling about BR from the first day.
All our new signings have massive potential and I expect big things this year. Hopefully Agger stays and Lucas stays fit and I can see us pushing for a top 4 this season.
By the way there is nothing wrong with loaning players like Tello or Sahin just gives them a chance to shine here and hopefully during the course of the season persuade them this is the place to be.

Good tmes ahead.

88Red

We seem to be beaten regularly by teams with tiny budgets mate. The amount you spend doesn't dictate how much you improve (it does help though) l hope the signings we have made turn out to be gems as BR has done that before
TSB

Think we will get 5th. You're right but a bit too exaggerated. The American owners want to be successful, but they no little about football in all honesty. It's not just a business. We will have a good season, just give the team a bit of time to gel

Shut up and get a grip ! Man Utd just paid 24 million quid for a player in his late 20's and who is injury prone big time , and there gonna pair him with Shrek ! Chelsea paid 50 million for Torres he scored how many goals ? look back at history mate we play to win trophys not buy them like Chelsea ,Man City and the likes of ! we will have a lot more enjoyment watching our team of brilliant nobodys led by our very tactical new manager( who we should all back ) kick the ass of the teams of megabuck stars who just play for a pay check once they have signed on mega deals where our deals are for players who play for the fun in the game and the pride of wearing the shirt ,
As for the Americans remember these guys saved us from the mess the other pair left us in , they have saved us from a Rangers scenario, Kenny spent (wasted) shed loads of money on the wrong players ie Carroll and Adam , trust in BR the improvement in the teams play already is very clear for all to see , support our club as a whole or dont bother at all

For the love of Christ, we bought proven players last season and look what happened. Everybody wanted these changes (new manager, get rid of the useless players KK brought in E.g Carroll Adam and start buying foreign talent and finally spend money wisely) but when they happen we wonder why and blame the owners.

PUCK YOU!!!

Mate, lpool had to write off a 50 million loss this year, plus when we finish offloading joe cole, aquaman, big andy, put a 50 million loss on top of that , start to take in our club was run badly for years , the new owners are sorting out this mess , so its living within our means- younger players , lower wages, unless we get taken over like city or cheski , thats the world we live in, at least we look to have a very smart and shrewd manager in br to take us forward..............lfc

Red Lee,

You need to pay attention, mate. Rodgers has said that when everyone else has spending power that is superior to yours, you have to find another way to be competitive. If you get a your team to have an identity, style and effectiveness who cares about how much the players cost? Last year, we finished eight after having been one of the big spenders. This year, a new manager has come in with a different philosophy. He buys players that will fit a style he wants to play. The players who came in are all eager and willing to prove themselves. Most fans are excited and looking forward to the new season. Agger, Carroll, Spearing and Adam are desperate to stay on. The question is: are you on board with us?

Canadian Fan

If anyone can't see that BR has very quietly gone and built a young and exciting squad here, they are blind. There will be so much movement it will be scary. And Sahin, loan or not will be quality. And, there may be 1 or 2 more. I am delighted with the way our team will shape up! Well done Liverpool, and fingers still crossed regards Sahin, still hopeful about Tello too. Can't wait!

Nick

Who was arguably the best striker from January? Cisse! Had u heard of him? No! Did Newcastle pay big money? No! Michel Vorn - Awesome keeper, cost little. Think Rodgers knows a little more than u. Wombat

Hows about we watch us play a few games with our full squad in place and then make judgements on how we are going? Maybe you are just setting your expectations low so you dont get disappointed. The other option is, just get excited about the fact that a new season is about to start and you will get to watch our beloved Reds playing every week and see what happens. You never know.

Andy K

It's an interesting point you make, so instead of every one jumping on here and having a go at you, would you like to explain further? imagine your the manager today, you have very little and money and have to sell some players to raise some cash. You need to reduce the average wage bill and you have no champions league to offer. The team has been finishing lower in the league for the last few consecutive seasons and there is still no news on a new stadium.
Now who is it you have in mind to sign to improve the team? and what tactics do you preffer?
RNred

Sahin.....unproven? Former German footballer of the year. Are you mad?

Liverpool signed Kevin Keegan, Emlyn Hughes, Roger Hunt, Steve Heighway and many other 'budget' players. Let's have a look at the new crop before writing them off. We could have signed another for five million pounds but chickened out - name 'Christiano Ronaldo". It's not individual players we want - it is a TEAM. Another point is that you have mentioned THREE teams as having signed 'big names'. I would like to point out that not all three are going to be Champions which for me (and most other LFC fans) is the main target.
Dutchmal

Couldn't disagree more! Half of the players you mentioned having signed for the other teams are unproven and financially a bigger gamble... personally I don't think you have a clue!

Shall we see how they play first before we right them off hey..!

My thoughts red Lee? Stick to playing championship manager on your computer mate.

I'm not so sure this managing a football team is as easy as picking the best players and firing in a stupid bid of 50million. The fact is there are certain players we can't attract at present due to the lure of champions league football and also as BR suggested we are no longer prepared to pay silly money on players, crippling the club in the process. We are being run professionally, end of.

In summary, support the team and keep your negative opinions to your championship manager forums.

Andy

You clearly talk crap and live in dream land, Im over the moon, same as most true fans tngt that BR has pulled out a transfer we werent expecting with maybe sahin to follow tmrw. What are you upset about pal any chance you can explain to me where you think our rivals are more better of than Us.

We have signed up Suarez on a long deal and Agger must have bought into BR dream cause that boy sure doesnt want to go, what does that tell you. RVP bales on the Gunners cause there not matching his ambitions but our boys are dying to commit to the cause, so get behind the team dry your eyes out and stop the buzz up ma man. Go find out what YNWA means Players like Dagger get it, and the true Koppiets out there. Get in the BR and the eds keep up the cracking work. Well buzzing tngt and for Sat to come got 30 quid on at 40 to 1 for us to win the league, stealing money.com

Scottybhoy1888 YNWA

My thoughts?

we have gerrard, agger, skrtel, johnson, lucas, SUAREZ ! they can sign who they like, we have some really class players in this team who we have to believe are going to shine playing such an attractive style of football in, borini looks a player, everyone knows allen can control a mid field, oussama asaidi could be a great winger, sahin is coming in, if dempsey comes in lots of goals,

not sure you should worry to much about arsenal after selling the one man who carried the can last season, and now selling alex song, we will be knocking on the door next season and thats about what we should be looking for after 3 pathetic seasons in the league,

Great job judging players based on their price tag. Assaidi is the person who ousted Taarabt in the morroco team. This tells you how good he is.

It is what you describe it as...A rant!
Dempsey will sign this week! We have a new winger, We have Suarez and Borini,Carroll..and i'll assume you know our whole squad, but Morgan is quality! This tension runs for all teams, If MCY get Aguero, Tevez and Dzeko injured they will get relegated?...Please be patient...BR regime is a work in progress, and I think at least 80% of us are willing to take the gamble with him, I am 1 of them.

Also, Trust me dude!...With FSG we are in good hands!...try to remember these guys saved us from a 'rangers'esk' situation! we were really close to bankrupt until these guys stepped up!! /salute FSG!!

Van Persie - one good season, injury prone, Kagawa - unproven to some extent, Podolski - is known for being wayward when things aren't going his way, when he went to a bigger club he failed, Giroud - probably more unproven than Borini and older, Cazorla - don't know much about him but hasnt set the world alight the few times Ive seen him, Marin - lightweight and cant get in the german squad, doubt he will make the step up, Hazard - a lot of money due to his ego really, I think is grossly over-rated and I think will struggle to adapt to the Prem, one kick and he'll fanny out, will be in Spain within 2 years Imo.
Just lets see how our team goes and lets reserve judgement until next summer. I've actually got a lot of confidence in the manager and the team that he's building and that's the key, building a TEAM! It's not just about throwing a load of egomaniacs together for high prices and high wages and hoping that they will play together and get on.

......except if it was not for these American owners, Liverpool FC would be bankrupt.

You need to face up to facts - only clubs with sugar daddy owners are splashing the cash (i.e Chelsea). Another club has committed £78.8m to RVP over 4 years when they are £432m in debt. Amazing.

Red Machine

Did we not loan Anelka and Mascha. As for unknown Sahin is anything but unknown.

Here is my honest thought to you SUPPORT YOUR CLUB AND THE PLAYERS JACKASS!!!!!!

The season has not even started and you have already starting showing negative attitude towards the team.

Let me tell you one thing. Buying expensive players does not mean that the club will succeed. you need a team that is well balanced.

And you also mentioned something about unproven players. Look at other team which players from your list is proven in Premier League besides Van Persie? Joe Allen has proved more in premier league more than any other players in your list combined.

I think we have a solid team with a good manager this season. With a winger (maybe) and possibly Sahin coming in we are definitely top 4 contender this season (2nd behind City). We are definitely gonna answer all the critics and useless rants from other fans.

Live-On-Pool

I'd rather have the 3 new players and hopefully the rm player on loan than the four we signed last year and for the price of carrolls leg

Talk about negativity! One thing in football, individuals don't make a team, a fancy £200mill squad thats cant play together doesn't make a team! Even messi needs xavi & iniesta so chill out. Give the lads a chance to play! Your blasting them down before the first kick of the season wow!

MoMo

How ill-though. We're using a new system this season and are buying young players that fit in with that. Assaidi only cost £3m! A steal for a player of his age and ability.

I think you should wait to see how we play this season.
we've looked pretty good so far and the new additions can only improve us, lets just get behind them for now!

x

Yes, because top teams only sign expensive foreign players already playing at the top level! Look at Dortmund, for example. Oh, wait, maybe don't look at Dortmund. How about Newcastle? Oh, don't look at them either (and don't say they're not a top team- finished over us and widely acknowledged for some fine recruiting last couple of windows).

I'll wait to see the new kid play a game or two before I pass judgement on his fate, thanks.

Did you see / hear / read what Rodgers said in his press conference earlier??

He basically stated that the money to go out and buy established world class players simply isn't there.

So in order for us to be successful in the short term, we DO need to buy unproven young players with potential.
And why not take advantage of the loan system? Other teams do.
Nuri Sahin is a fantastic young player, and if we don't loan him then Arsenal will.

in short, a lot has happened in the last few seasons and we're no longer in a position to compete financially with the teams you've mentioned.

FSG are nothing like H&G.
They tried throwing money into new transfers and it didn't work.
Now they're trying a different method, one that maybe doesn't offer immediate results but one that has stabilised our present and can shape our future.

We won't win the league this year, but we've got a decent shout of top 4.

Rather than worry and whine about who other teams have signed, and criticising Liverpool players who are yet to kick a ball, why not just concentrate on supporting your club?

I'm so excited about Saturday, and literally can't wait until kick off. But I'm like this every game, every season.

Joe

But we should be looking to buy quality, world class players.

Thoughts? Whos going to pay the £30m fee and £200,000 a week wage? You?

I can see your concerns for sure...assaidi is a gamble, perhaps one that just might pay off though. You tube footage of him is appealing, but it also displays some shocking defending by his opponents, itll be a diff ball game against the big guns of the EPL. On saying that the lad is very gifted so lets give him a fair chance.

...and yes it'd be very reassuring to see us sign a proven player at prem level....its also arguable that Dempsey is just that. A big name striker is a must tho if we are serious about re-entering the CL.

....the transfer window isnt closed tho so its wiser not to judge just yet, and I couldnt fault the owners too much so far personally as we were in dire straits before they dug us out.

....patience is the key

Dwood

This boy is a special player , i have watched him play for Morocco when Tarebt was quit the national team as Gerrets preferred Assiadi to start.He went on to dominate the game and scored the 4th against Algeria.Everytime i watch him play he improves.

what makes me laugh is our fans critise when we buy 20m players and ignore the Cabaye, Ba, Ben arfa of this world,I am personally excited as he is a fast tricky player who will hopefully go on to be a great signing.I take my hat off to BR and the scouting team as they have made some decent signings and we look like a more rounded team

16 Aug 2012 19:09:15
Apparently this guy (Assaidi), together with Narsigh, was a target of Martin Jol back in May - it says they considered them as replacements for Dempsey. Jol should know who the good wingers in the Netherlands are, and he was wanted by Ajax very recently - so, he's apparently one of the best wingers in the Netherlands. Whether he can cut it in England is a different question.

And a big HA-HA to all those moaning that BR only signs Swansea players!
Welcome to the new boy, and let us hope he will set the Prem on fire!

Drigan

Swansea wanted him when BR was in charge. They were planning on getting him if they couldn't get giovani dos santos and they probably would have got him. So he is still going for his targets. Weather it will work for Liverpool, next season will tell. I just hope he knows he's at Liverpool. Good luck rogers.

16 Aug 2012 19:08:45
Oussama Assaidi was wanted by fulham after his deal to ajax stalled.

he was dempseys replacement (haha)

he is dual nationality and turned down holland to play for morocco.

not sure what this means for dempsey i would have assumed that we had enough cash for one more signing abd dempsey was it, just lost patience with fulham and bought there target to annoy them lol.

looks a bag of tricks and his stats are fantastic for a winger.

gingerviking

But we wanted Dempsey on top off tello and sahin on loan. Tello looks out of the question sahin deal is still on so I'm pretty sure were still in for someone else. I'm so disillusioned right now.

I think his value would have been higher if he had chosen to play for Holland and could have had more clubs chasing him. Similarly, Sahin's value would have been, or still could be higher than it is if he chose to play for Germany instead of Turkey...

Ed's a few questions here...
How much do you rate Assaidi... Do you think he'll be able to cope with the premier league and be as good as babel?

Do you think we could be subject to many more surprise bids such as Assaidi?

Will he be able to fight for a first team start or will he be a flop? {Ed052's Note - I have just finished a profile on him}

He will likely be a squad player and cover for the wings .

Give the Ed a break! how can he possibly know any of that? An hour ago nobody had any idea the lad was even coming. Go and have a break and a dink Ed, I have a feeling your in for a long night mate.

Who is this Assaidi? I've never heard of him, any good? I trust Rodgers but 3 million! {Ed052's Note - Look at other Rodgers gems, Vorm etc. Never heard of him. He finds gems, he really does. He'll be a star.}

He likes players with brains and technical ability. Assaidi looks like he can take on players or play a killer pass when he has the option.

He can play at LWF, RWF or AM I trust that he will do his part in the team.

Rodgers said we lack Squad depth and a player like Assaidi helps fill in some gaps.

He was in the last year of his contract thats why its £3m. Ajax, Galatasary and Spartak Moscow all wanted him so he can't be that bad. Just trust that we may have got a bargain and a gem, the point about Vorm is a good one.

Oussama Assaidi has put pen to paper and signed from Heerenveen! Can safely say that that was a well kept secret! Haven't seen any one of these "in the know" people on here posting any rumours about him signing for us! Just goes to show! Looks like a decent player, tricky and pacey, plays on the wing and by the looks of it can use both feet, also a young lad! Got to say, im impressed with what Rodgers is doing so far in the transfer market. He's not over-spending on the "brand names" of football players and he seems to have a good eye for footballers that will do a job for him and fit well into his system. Here's to a promising season ahead, and hopefully we can build on that get back into the top 4 in the next couple of season.

He looks to me alot like ronaldo the way he moves, his gait, touch, speed and ball skills. the clips of him on the lfc website lookin really good just keeping fingers crossed he turns out to be a star. BR can do this, pick up a good young player who fits into his style of play, we ain't seen nuthin yet boys we're off and runnin so excited and lookin forward to the season

Noway.

City
Chelsea
LFC
Man Utd
Arsenal
Newcastle
Spurs ( They can't replace modric even if they sign moutinho he isnt as good as modric)
Everton

Is this a list of who you've supported over the years?

Posted by an Evertonian obviously.

Worth a quid in the bookies, then you can sail off into the sunset with your wnnings and leave all us sensible fans behind!

You misplaced 8 when it's supposed to be 4!
Redmanluka

Swap 8 for 5 then maybe.

Liverpool-1

Newcastle had an above average season last season and were punching way above their weight but I honestly like to see them do well. Can't see spurs doing much, really can't see everton doing anything either but the top four apart from liverpool featuring somewhere between 4th and 5th I'd say you're about right.

Apart from if we don't win it I'd rather see city lift it just to run it in united face :o)

Pegleg

If you won't be at least a little bit optimistic then please use another forum!! You put them BLUENOSE above us on a lfc forum?? Either Troll or a softlad! Either way, you are not needed here.!

Toffees wet dream here?

A bold prediction, both Manchester clubs equal on points, goals for and against. Interesting wind up attempt. While we are at a bit of banter then, did you know the word "Ipanema" comes from the Tupi language and means "stinky lake", from upaba ("lake") and nem ("stinky")? Did we think that one out?

Genuinly really excited about this season (we say this every year) but Rodgers seems to be the perfect man for Liverpool FC. His additions this season are looking very threatening; the addition of Sahin and Tello (if we get them) will be perfect. Not forgetting we have the best defence in the league and Stevie G in the middle with Lucas with a proven striker in Suarez! COME ON YOU REDS!

16 Aug 2012 19:01:32
We have signed Oussama Assaidi from Heerenveen subject to a medical.

Totally from out of the blue

Did any single person on then site predict this Eds?

He's a good player too.

Brooksey1973

Spurs r cracking up there tout within liverpool didnt tell them about this target

I totally saw that one coming :) Just kept it quiet. I wish!

Let's hope there is a few more to come,

I'm getting concerned about the lack of money Rodgers has been given. I'm not sure why FSG say they have the resources to compete in world football when we can barely afford "good" players never mind decent ones. Not sure why they bought us frankly.

Hessle Red

They've spent close to 30 million already this Summer... What more do you want?

You got good and decent the wrong way round..

Are you joking?

When will people learn FSG are trying to run a business and still compete in EPL they have given him some money where he has brought in some decent players plus more to come. They have already put a lot of money into the club and it failed so they are being more careful this term. They are going the right way about it, trying to run a business and not use a football club as a toy such as the likes of MCFC!

LFC is a club that became great by buying players that became great within a great team. Since when did we 'buy' in our success? Not sure why you're supporting LFC frankly.

dd

They bought us to steady the ship...
and mate they did showed the dollars last season..wen KK bought some rubbishs..which we are not able to offload at its half price after one seaosn....

Is it because top players either want cl football or 200 g per week which we cant offer neither br has bought good players and hopefully get us back into the top 4 and then we can compete with other teams except the teams that offer stupid wages
rob

A great team will beat a team of great players.

16 Aug 2012 19:00:32
So go on then. Who predicted that one? I'll be honest, I've never heard of Oussama Assaidi
AD

No one did..same here never heard of him..
haha, saw a post on the official liverpool site saying the news must be fake a smokescreen for tello..
even after it was officially declared people cant believe it..gotta love the way BR and the club is handling things..

I always buy Assaidi on the master league in PES

16 Aug 2012 18:58:32
what the hell ? where did this come from ?
Oussama Assaidi after all this sahin, tello, dempsey talks..
looks like a typical Brendan rodgers signing though..vorm 1.5 million,sinclair 0.5 million haha..
for 3million this guy looks pretty good to me..

£3million was that the cost? If so then it's a shrewd signing without too much risk involved. I've heard the name but not seen him play so excited by the deal more so as no one knew about it. Who else could there be?
TSB

16 Aug 2012 18:55:59
Oussama Assaidi??? Who is this guy? any idea of what kind of strenghts he has eds? is he more of a wide mid fielder or will he play on the out side of the attacking front three?

Ed how much have we paid for this winger from the Dutch league. Is he good? {Ed049's Note - 3million, I haven't seen much of him.}

What I've seen, 3 mill is a bargain

Tricky, with some audacity, eye for toal, very exciting. Just needs to learn when to pass the ball as he's one of them players who looks for the crazy solo runs and wants to cut up the entire opposition himself... With BR cracking the whip i'm sure this can be a top aquisition.
YNWA The Pirate.

He's got some of pace, and can beat a player too. Quiet a good price for £3 million. Guess we are not getting Walcott then...

Hello Eds, you've probably got loads of questions about the kid, but:
1, Do you no if he's any good?
2, Which teams did attract, any of the top Europe teams?
3, And does this spell the end of all the Tello rumours?(Sadly)
Cheers! {Ed052's Note - patience mate - I will cover it all soon}

16 Aug 2012 18:50:40
Hey Eds,first time posting does anybody know this Oussama Assaidi we have just signed thank's. {Ed052's Note - I will P-P him soon}

16 Aug 2012 18:49:46
Assaidi has signed. Winger. 24. 20 goals in 68 apps. Plays on left or right. Brilliant.

16 Aug 2012 18:44:57
Apparently Liverpool have signed SC Heerenveen winger Oussama Assaidi for 3 million. I haven't seen him at all so I can't make any judgements. Can anyone shed some light on this player? Eds what does this mean for Dempsey/Tell deals - although I'd heard Tello was off anyway.

Thanks
Dan.

hey eds: there is currentlhy rumours in denmark saying BR has decided all agger deals are off, apearentlhy from what gossip i have heard, its surposed to have broken down as a result of tello not wanting a liverpool loan, and barcalona not being willing to raise the price for agger, do you have info in this.

jasper. {Ed052's Note - He has said that he will try to keep Agger}

16 Aug 2012 18:43:50
Hello eds

You heard anything about us agreeing a free for assaidi

Nick from birmingham {Ed052's Note - Not sure how much he has cost. I will find out later. At the minute I have a player profile on him to do, and 300+ posts to delete haha}

16 Aug 2012 18:43:42
I posted a couple of weeks ago saying about a winger coming in from La Liga on loan. Although I didnt have a name at the time, its become clear its Tello. People starting to say the deal is off, according to the information I've recieved, we're hopeful a deal can be struck out really soon.

Sahin is a certainty if the terms between Real and ourselves are suitable for both parties. Could be signed as early as tomorrow, but looking more likely to be early next week.

No news on Walcott besides the fact he is definite target.

I also posted on Dempsey saying he would be done before the Leverkusen game, but things keep changing according to my information.

Thanks, Tom.

Stop signing off with me name.

Tom.

Welcome to Anfield bud

NextGenRed

16 Aug 2012 18:40:35
Well, that was a leftfield shock! Who knew? Assaidi!

Oussama assaidi very fast and tricky left winger, will do well for Liverpool and will chipin with at least 10 to 14 goals a season, I wanted Liverpool to sign him last year, I for one happy with his appointment if it does happened, he will do a good job and will not cost too much, borini, allen assaidi these players will make their own name, between the three Liverpool will pay less than what they have paid for carroll.

16 Aug 2012 18:40:35
A winger is currently having a medical. Can not say his name but he is a 24yr Moroccan

I cant say his name either mate... Its a strange one tbf

Liverpool have agreed terms with Dutch side Heerenveen for Oousama Assaidi after undergoing a medical .

16 Aug 2012 18:39:04
Well Liverpool have added a winger, Oussama Assaidi, a Morrocon whoplays for SC Heereveen in Holland. I don't know much about this guy, but he is 24 so its not a move for the future. Ive seen him listed as a winger but also seen his position listed as a striker, so he is versatile it seems which fits into what Rodgers seems to like.

16 Aug 2012 18:34:41
This is why I love the Liverpool way, Never even heard of Oussama Assaidi but there you go, Eds, Anyone got any info on this guy. What a Lovely Suprise

16 Aug 2012 18:14:43
Expect Dempsey to come in on a very humble 3 yr contract with very high bonuses, somewhat like Suarez's first contract was. With him being used as the face of LFC in the USA he's practically paying for himself. And once he's gone in 2 or 3 years the LFC brand would be substantially bigger than it is now in the states. Bringing in better revenue so that we can buy the kind of players the doom mongerers whine that we should be getting... His value to LFC is only half on the pitch. Thats the only reason we're buying a 29 year old.
YNWA The Pirate

Doubt it's the only reason.
Raising our profile in the states is just a little bonus signing Dempsey provides.

MIKEY

Total rubbish, were after Dempsey for what he can do for us on the pitch, and whatever he brings off the pitch is a bonus.

STEVE

RED4LIFE

I admit I do not know that much about the US footbal scene, but how big exactly is a 29 year old Fulham player over there?

16 Aug 2012 17:59:29
If we can just finalize Sahin and Dempsey I think we'd be good. Another forward/winger would be nice but I think we'd be in good shape without it.

Up front we'd have: Suarez, Borini, Dempsey, Carroll, Downing. That's 5 guys for 3 spots, which isn't bad. Plus additional depth potentially from Sterling and don't forget Cole.

In the midfield we'd have: Gerrard, Allen, Lucas, Sahin, Shelvey, Henderson. Thats six guys for 3 spots.

Plus there is additional depth due to players being versatile, Gerrard can play in attack (and in fact I expect him to often, playing very advanced so that Lucas, Sahin and Allen can form the midfield triangle) and in a pinch Cole can even play midfield.

Basically Sahin and Dempsey would be great, if we can add one more player on top of that, great. If not I think we still would be in good shape.

16 Aug 2012 17:56:01
We tried to buy 4th place last season, I'm pleased we showing caution and looking to loan players, if they are good we can try to buy them next year if they work out. Once they've experienced our fan support they'll find it hard to move on!

If only I could agree more. Great post, some1 who gets it.

Huxleypig

Surely the idea is to get experienced personnel in (assuming we do actually get some loan signings) to help the 1st team, whilest the youngsters are given another season to mature in the reserves with occassional appearances from the bench for 1st team. This doesn't load expensive personnel onto the wage bill at the risk of hindering youth development.

Jim K

Yeah i agree a good post. Not sure Kenny thought of it that way but a good post anyhow and i hope also we buy with caution

16 Aug 2012 17:08:32
John w henry says he din't know anything about liverpool or football before buying it and now thinks the challenge is bigger then red sox. He continued there is big difference compare to America and thinks some rule needs to change in premier league.
Ed what do you think about our owners who wants rules to change in premier league and thinks its not right for other clubs to lose money and still spend don't you think he just needs to concetrate in liverpool and forget about other clubs mate

Personally think that's part of his job. He's one of 20 owners in the PL and it's his responsibility to advocate on behalf of the club. Doesn't hurt that he's also not wrong- sustained losses by clubs in the PL are simply not sustainable (few multi-billionaire owned clubs aside where it may be). Unless the PL would like to look like La Liga with 2 big teams and everyone else fighting for distant third.

It is in our interest that ffp moves into the prem because then chelski and city fall away

You need to look at who has won the Prem. It is completely wrong to think it is any different to Spain or Scotland only a very small amount of the very richest clubs have won it.
Remember Rafa won it in Spain with Valancia not to long back.
The rules on home grown players have done nothing to help the English teams, it has just meant that English internationals are stuck on the bench at a few select clubs now.

I doubt John Henry (and co) would be that naive as to buy/invest in something as big as Liverpool FC and not know anything about it, highly questionable? althought that said, the next comment may indicate some truth if he and others actually thought the "challenge" they faced in turning Liverpool around was lesser then that with which they faced with the Red Sox.

I recall when another American Billionaire Robert Kraft (Kraft Group), was linked with possible investment, he stated that the economics of football made no business sense, he couldn't believe there weren't salary caps in place, nor could he fathom how the transfer system "worked" (he listed a scenario very similar to that of the Albeto Aquilani saga which could eventuate and would see the "buying" club losing millions - high risk), and that other clubs' could run up significant levels of debt ensuring that there was not a level playing field.

Interestingly he said re his decision not to invest/buy Liverpool - "The only way I would go into a sports business is to win. And, I don't think I can compete on an equal footing so I choose not to do it. "

In short American sports "franchises" are completely different "beasts" when compared to those like English Football Clubs, yes Fair Play rules should be employed and enforced, but until they are the "Big Boys" will continue to remain big ...do I consider Liverpool as one of the Big Boys, loyally I would say yes, in reality I can't deny we have definitely slipped in terms of finance, with John Henry's call for "reform" or rule changes adding support to my thoughts.

If we can't beat them financially then we will have to beat them mentally (be more clever and shrewd).

Looks like he always planned on comming to LFC.
DR {Ed023's Note - I don't think he was planning - but maybe it was destiny?}

Super snippit from the story of LFC that we tell our great grand kids. Of how the liverbird rose from the ashes without much cash, punching above our weightl odds all against us etc etc..

16 Aug 2012 17:33:13
Agger going nowhere. Barca do not pay over the odds for players and any bid would not match our valuation. Furthermore, Agger doesn't want to leave and BR sees him as an important player for his system of passing football. He will still be a Red next season.

Sidney Jones

16 Aug 2012 17:27:24
Ed do you think if Newcastle wait until the last day of the window and offer 13m for Carroll, would liverpool accept or stand firm on his value?

Frog. {Ed023's Note - I cannot be making such predictions Frog, sorry}

No-one pushes Rodgers around ...........

I think we could do what they did to us...Keep on rejecting their deadline day offers so that they end up paying 3-5million extra...That would be great...A taste of their own medicine...

Red PG

Rodger that..

Live-On-Pool

Maybe I'm a little bit old and keep missing things - but I still haven't read anywhere that Carroll is not in BR's plans, I have read and heard BR say he likes him and that he could do a job for him.
Read lots in the media from lazy journalists who make up stories and things from twitter - but nothing from LFC that Carroll is for sale.

16 Aug 2012 17:31:39
The 2 deals to be finalised in next 48 hours are loan moves for Tello and Sahin. No major shocks there but rumours of Dempsey, Walcott and the rest won't materialise over the next few days. Possibly in future, but the 2 BR was referring too at the press conference earlier were Sahin and Tello.

Andy

16 Aug 2012 16:42:49
Hi Eds. What is the situation with Tello? It seems as though he doesn't want to leave Barca but Barca don't want him and now there is a talk of a new deal for ? Seems very confusing. Could you clarify this situation? {Ed023's Note - Macca thinks the Tello deal is close so that's all of the situation I know now. If you want me to give my take on what could happen here it goes; Tello signs new deal then joins Liverpool on loan.}

16 Aug 2012 17:14:37
Eds is there any chance Kenny will be back working at the club in any way? {Ed019's Note - Maybe later on}

BR - The reality is we just don't have money this year. We shipped one or two out to bring one or two in.

Why come on this site if you don't read it then post stupid statements. If you have read this site it's quite clear we still are yet to get a few players in. I'd also like to the point out that the players we have sold are not worth no where near as much as the players we bought.

Think before you post mate

The poster is quoting the manager of LFC, who might know a bit more about things than anyone posting on this site "mate"

The truth hurts for some people i see

16 Aug 2012 16:48:28
Surin, Callejohn, Dempsey will sign.

Walcott, Johnson, Ramierez are out of the equation now.

Tello not interested in coming to Anfield and refused to used as makeweight in a possible Agger deal. Agger stays at Liverpool.

Carroll, Adam are to be sold, Spearing a good possibility too.

16 Aug 2012 16:36:06
Hey Eds, great job with the site!

With Brendan Rodgers confirming today he has a highly limited budget and it is unlikely that any more players will be leaving the club, is it unrealistic to expect any transfers beyond Sahin and Dempsey (with Tello looking to be staying at Barca?)

If so do you not feel us a little light in the winger department?

Cheers guys {Ed002's Note - I would still not be surprised to see one or two leaving.}

He would have to say he has a limited budget to avoid being quoted stupid prices by one all (Fulham for example). I wouldnt be surprised if he has access to funds for a bigger splash before the deadline. No sense in bragging that though.

Red G

16 Aug 2012 16:34:27

16 Aug 2012 16:33:57
As the premiership has become more and more difficult, with the influx of more and more quality players, more and more money, and the big four now practically a big 8 or even ten. There will be one truth that would be highlighted come the end of the season.... Its not how much money you have, its not how good you look on paper, its not how many stars you have on the bench. But what those 11 players do on that football pitch that would make the major difference, along with a wee bit of luck. Blood sweat tears, now extended to blood sweat tears, paychecks and bonuses.... That extra bit of soul that LFC has gives us a unique edge.... O and dont forget...we got BR...

16 Aug 2012 16:31:37
but Suarez and Borini can play in centre to replace Carroll we need Dempsy and Walcott and sell Carroll and Adam , today we sign with Sahin then if we are sign with Dempsey and Walcott I think we are in 3rd position :)

If those signing's do materialise then we would have a very attack minded side!

Just been on Arsenal rumours just to see there reaction towards RVP and they're talking about Liverpool beating them for Sahin and saying he must have no ambition and we are nowhere near competing for fourth and a mid table team, they make me laugh, we've had 2 bad seasons with all that going on with the other two yankers an we're mid table an wrote off, can't wait till BR and Liverpool prove evey1 wrong and be back in the big European places where we belong, we've been through are bad spell it's out the way an now like a Phoenix we will rise from the ashes, come on red men for 2013 YNWA JF96

Muller

We'll win CL and the Premiership before Arsenal are runners-up in either.

Typical arrogant Gooners - because winning nothing for years is where it's at! We havent exactly done well over the last few seasons but we have had a really bad time of it with owners and managers etc - what excuse do they have? Selling all their best players to rivals is hardly ambitious on their part. They may make CL consistently, but they don't win anything! I'm not saying were better than them, i'm just saying their arrogance is unbelievable, Sahin coming to us does not show lack of ambition on his part, we're a top team still, just like they are.

Liverpool 5 london1 Paisley's genius

What you could do is focus more on supporting your own team and less on winding up the supporters of others.

i would not be surprised if we get affelay from barca he can play on both wings and behind the striker.
with allen borini and 2/3 players coming i think we could make top 4.
no need to fear arsenal newc tott.
my only surprise is that we are not getting a center back to replace carra,he is past it and in rodgers system he would have trouble even if he was 10 years younger.

Martin Kelly will be a top centre back and Wilson is their to cover too

Kelly or Coates will replace carra. Both are probably better than him now anyway.
They will probably play better under Rodgers than carra at least.
His lack of pace will be his downfall this year.

MIKEY

Carragher is a bench player now, and we have Kelly and Coates who can easily take up his position.

Carra likes to play longball

ed,019 reports confirming pablo hernandez of valencia is going to swansea city..is that true?
IMO very good player lots of pace,skill,creativity & experience..
surprised he is chosing swansea over CL qualifying valencia and only available for 6 million but no other teams pursuing him ?
any chance of us getting him ? {Ed019's Note - Looks like Swansea are getting him. I don't know of interest from us}

Its a harsh reality check. We dont have the money this year thing that worrys me big time is if we domt have momey a year and a half after the owners are in what happens three years down the line.

Fair enough dalglish spent 100m but surely bringing in new players is something u have to give rodgers its not giving him much of a chance. Find it hard to believe that after a year anf a half our owners are skint and another point is ffp comes into play next year so how much are we going to have if we dont reach champions league this year? Surely splash the cash when u can to ensure we dont fall further behind, not that spending gurantees success but certainly wont see us worse than 8th.

Grave concerns!

U got a funny name mate.

Well the owners will have fixed the hopeless financial structure the club had under previous regimes by that stage.
derryred

Im sure there is money there and why tell everyone there is money so they can put the price up on players.
RB

Don't think the owners are skint just being cautious . They spent £100m last season with no return . Last season other teams knew we had loads of money to spend this season no one knows it's called being clever .

Thats exactly why we wanna get back into the Champions League!!
We've basically spent the money (£25m)we got from Warrior sports sponsorship... We still have money from Standard Chartered there if we need it at least, the owners are right in fairness, why spend huge amounts of money and then end up putting the club in the same position as Hicks and Gillet did. The bubble will eventually burst for clubs like Man-City & Chelsea, they are spending stupid amounts of money for quick success, we want long term success not just a once off.

Rocky

FSG are not skint.
They run the red sox who are worth twice what LFC are and are competitive.
If LFC are not spending millions in the transfer window it's because LFC don't make enough money.
We are still running at a loss so deserve no transfer pot at all really.
The fact we are still spending is down to having great owners.

MIKEY

We do have money of course, although i have to say i'm not convinced that we have as much as some have suggested. Its impossible for someone like me to know if there was figure agreed but i would be surprised if it was over £50 million...and if that was the case...fair play to owners

gareth

Last time I checked, we've spent ~£26M this transfer window. Oh, and the window is still open.

Hi guys great site btw. Just want to say it's an exciting time with Allen, Sahin, Borini & whatever other wingers/forwards we get in. I like Carroll & think he deserves his chance this season & I hope Agger stays. But I understand the whole moneyball thing & have faith Brendan will do well with what he's got come September.

Anyway my question is this: Is there any update on the movement of Goalkeepers? Doni & Jones out? Butland & de Vries in? {Ed002's Note - Offers for de Vries have been rejected. I don't know of interest in Butland.}

It's rumoured in Madrid sahins agent is finalising his loan move to liverpool right now.mourniho has told him he rather he go to liverpool than arsenal as his relationship with BR and one he has/hasn't with arsene, now they've got modric the Madrid board are sanctioning the talks between club and player. His agent is at bernabae now..

sahin will sign in the next 24-48 hours depending on when modric makes madrid move.
adam will be used as a makeweight for dempsey or could be sold to everton for 6m pounds and then we buy dempsey. dempsey should come within the next week.
tello wont be coming as he says he will be staying at barca until at least january.
i highly doubt walcott will be coming as we dont hav the money for him and if we sell carroll i think it would be smarter to bid for callejon.

i realise this isn't liverpool banter but why on earth are a web site putting it as ALL DAY that RVP could start for man u on monday,

if he's a man u player it's hardly a shocker he will play on monday, if he's not injured why would he not, boring boring a web site running that as all afternoon,

maybe they should catch up and tell us that sahin is basically a done deal to liverpool,

I take it my post has been torn up and edited by you guys because the words breaking and news are copyrighted and not allowed to be used by any other person or company on earth except for S. S. N ??

16 Aug 2012 15:57:18
i personally dont want dempsey as he is too old and id rather bring in a different attacking player like walcott or callejon.

huxleypig

No, why on earth would we want a player who's capable of getting 20+ goals a season !

Dempsey is still 3-4 years younger than Steven Gerrard I definitely don't think he's
too old rogers isn't stupid and wouldn't spend money on someone who wasn't worth it.

Well i can see what you mean but you buya player for talent and not a birth certificate. i think we already have enough potential stars in out squad and the signing of dempsey will do us no harm. he has great ability on the ball and knows where the net is. he can also alternate to anywhere in the forward line or attacking midfielder. for 10 million we can do alot worse.

Reading BRs latest comments regarding Agger and Carroll it is looking more likely Agger is staying he seemed pretty clear on this. Regarding Carroll however he said 'he would always look to make plan A work better before using plan B, hence he dosent think hes needs a back up plan of a big target man, read rest of quotes and i think you will agree hes willing to let the big fella go.

Rob

I totally agree, it's almost as if BR has persuaded the owners to change their mind! Although I do wonder if BR plays a bit of the mind games too! It does now seem Carroll will be the likely one to leave. I think Newcastle will leave it to the last minute in the hope they can lower the fee but I think Liverpool will hold firm and pick up 17-20 million. I still expect Sahin, Dempsey and Tello, altough alot think the Tello move has fallen trhough...I dont!

The top four is certainly not something we'll shy away from. It's where a club of this status wants to be, but it's always easier said than done. The reality over the past three seasons or so hasn't been that.

"It's important that if you don't have the money, you have got to be different. That's the idea of trying to find a style. One of the ways in which we can hopefully gain an edge is in how we play and control and dominate games.

"I've got some wonderful players here, some world-class players, and I'm excited about the young players that are coming through. There are always ways in which you are trying to make the difference.

"Everyone wants the money but you can't always have the money. But it won't stop our hunger and desire to improve and be better, and one of the ways in which we'll look to do that is to define our model of play."

I love this guy

Sounds like just David Moyes, I am worried!

I think we have a decent chance of getting top 4 with Arsenal losing RvP and spurs losing Modric! People Will argue that Arsenal have giourd, podolski and caralzo but they are not premier league proven and Tottenham have no good stickers, only Harry Kane and Jermaine defeo so I think we have a decent chance!
Redmanluka

We do have a good chance perhaps but still very difficult IMHO.
Spurs still have several very good players who can dominate most teams on their day and they have made a couple of very good signings. Arsenal have signed well enough also but i think we should finish above them. Spurs though will be difficult but i agree we could end on top of them. Newcastle also look very good but think this year we will hopefully get 4th, spurs 5th and arsenal i think come below newcastle

gareth

gareth

Bale

Bale to be fair is not there only good player and personally i think Modric is being blown out of proportion completely!

He is good..very good infact..but not sure he is even world class? Certainly not last season

Sahin & Dempsey will be the 2 players joining the Reds.
Please don't get your hopes up about Tello ..he is nowhere near ready to play for Liverpool. It's sounds like he could be another Aqualoani not enjoying & wanting to play in the EPL homesick kids are luxuries we cannot afford.

I don't think we would bother about bringing in tello if he wasn't interested.
He might come in with something to prove after "failing" at barca. He wants a place in their first team, if he proves his worth playing at Liverpool then I will be happy.

MIKEY

Its only on loan anyway. i think sahin on loan is a great piece of business.

Barcelona planning Bid For Goalkeeper Pepe Reina for £15million

Id take that all day long

Just because his release clause is 20 doesn't mean he won't go for 15.

Joe Cole in LFC's front 3, will he or won't he?

"wont he" - not up to standard, skilful yes but he hasnt got a football brain - thats why Chelsea let him go!

I hate to talk negatively about any Liverpool player. They represent our club and they deserve our support, but I'm afraid Joe Cole needs to go.

He is on big wages and simply cannot justify it. Every time he plays now it really winds me up to see him with his hands on his knee's and out of breath after 10-minutes.

JRG

I agree with JRG. His hearts in it but his fitness is as bad as mine. His wages do not justify what he does for the team. An old blanket will warm a bench just as well for a lot cheaper than 100k a week.

16 Aug 2012 15:19:32
hey Ed's keep up the great work. I just want to give my updated assessment of the current squad and my opinion on who we should sell/buy and where to play players in what positions etc. Obviously, BR will be going with a 4-3-3 formation, and I suspect that the starting lineup against WBA will be virtually the same as the starting line up vs. Gomel at Anfield, with Allen possibly replacing Shelvey, which would look like;

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Lucas

Gerrard Allen

Downing Suarez

Borini

This would also for me be our strongest lienup, if all three forward players swap roles. Having looked at it I believe it's clear that we really need to strenghten the wide positions.

Going Out;

Joe Cole, Adam, Spearing, Doni (not sure if he's left), and if they need the money Agger.

Joe Cole for me could come good, as he impressed at Lille, but that was in the French league. His big wages doesn't merrit for what I would assume to be a bench role for most games so sell him, probably between 3-6m. Adam - can't tackle, too slow, always looking for the killer pass that never comes, sell for around 5m. Spearing could stay for me, but only as a last resort. he seems a nice enough lad but he is far from being what is required to play for the first team so sell him for around 2m. Again dunno if Doni has left or not.

Now I only include Agger on the list for 3 reasons.

1. If we really do need the money then selling a player coming into the twilight of his career who is prone to injuries to the highest bidder would be ideal.

2. I would rather sell Carroll to fund the transfer kitty before I went anywhere near Agger, but I can't see anyone wanting to pay what we want for him Also I think we'll see a more determined Carroll this season, as I feel it is a tactic by BR in letting him think he is surplus to requirements in order to get more of a response out of him .

3. We have the likes of Coates and Kelly who are ready to step up as well as Carra's experience.

Otherwise I wouldn't conceive breaking up one of the best defensive partnerships in the league last season.

If we can get 25m for Agger, as well as what we already have + the money we get from selling the others I would say we would have around the 40m mark to spend. Again I don't know how much we have to spend but I think to fund anymore big deals we will have to sell Carroll or Agger, with Agger being the much more likely of the two. These would be my opinions on who to bring in;

Nuri Sahin - loan
Either - Christian Tello - loan
OR - Clint Dempsey - 8m
Stefan Jovetic - 22m

Sahin would be a good signing on loan, I would imagine he would be in rotation. Tello on loan for me would be a better option than signing Dempsey. Afterall, Dempsey is 29, and has just had his best season. Can he really do it again? And at a higher level? And for how much? Frankly, 10m plus for someone who's contract is running out and who is of that age is laughable. I imagine Tello signing a new contract at Barca is to prevent him from joining us on a bosman at the end of the loan deal. I do believe we want him perminantly but I imagine the loan maybe similar to the one including Bojan and Roma, with Barca having the option to sign him back after 2-3 years. For me the real problem is the left wing now that Bellamy is gone (which I'm gutted over but can understand why he left).

That only leaves Downing and Sterling, who for me isn't quite ready to start EPL games. If we sell Agger we really need to go after a top winger, which for me isn't a Walcott, Strurridge, Dempsey or a Tello. It needs to be a young, top class player, who is ready to make the step up to a bigger stage. For me, the best player available who fits this description in realistic terms would be Fiorentina's Stefan Jovetic.

He came back last season from a career threatening injury to score 14 goals from the wing, despite Fiorentina finishing a measly 15th in Seria A. No one else seems to be interested in him (at this moment), and the sale of Montolivo indicates they are reluctantly prepared to sell their best players.

Apparently Babel is set to join Fiore, which could indicate they would be prepared to let him go if the price is right. This is the best chance to sign him, as after this window, I feel Juve, Real Madrid or even Barca could come calling so we won't have a better chance to capture a player of that quality. Certainly realistic being Liverpool and having Europe to offer. I wouldn't think he wouldn't want ridiculous wages either as he's on around 40-50k a week, and is more eager to prove himself on a bigger stage. However, if a Madrid or Barca offer him silly money he isn't going to say no is he?

This would be my strongest lineup;

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Coates Enrique

Lucas

Gerrard Allen

Borini Jovetic

Suarez

Subs; Jones, Kelly, Carra, Sahin, Hendo/Shelvey, Dempsey/Tello/Sterling, Carroll.

Playing Suarez as the lone striker would allow him to swap positions with Borini and Jovetic, both who can play up front and can both score goals. Having Lucas as the holding midfielder allows Gerrad and Allen to break forward, looking for wide passes, through balls, or for scoring opportunities.

I think you can also see that the defence still looks pretty strong without Agger.

IN CONCLUSION, considering what BR has said and spent so far, I can't see there being a lot of money left to spend. Personally I would not want to sell someone who is totally committed to the club. However, We have a two, young quality centre backs in Kelly and Coates who are ready to establish themselves as first team regulars. Even though Agger had his best season last injury wise, He is 27, and is only getting older. If he had so many problems with injuries so early in his career they will more than likely follow him throughout his career.

25m for a good player with injury problems is a pretty good offer, especially as it would allow BR to strengthen were we are really lacking the quality; the wing positions, mostly the left hand side, as Downing is the only option bar Sterling (for me is not there just yet) after the sale of Craig Bellamy. One top quality winger could make all the difference this season, and I trully believe we need to be aiming higher than the likes of Walcott, Dempsey, and a young Barca winger on loan, IF we end up selling Agger i.e. Jovetic (or Ramirez).

Thanks for reading my post,

LFC1992

Hey eds since tello signed a new contract is he still likely to come. i heard he'd rather stay in Spain. if he does who are our other targets. is it Ramirez and gaitan or rubbish like walcott and Johnson. i would much rather the first two than the latter. {Ed052's Note - Im not sure who the other player is. Maybe Tello, maybe Dempsey, maybe Callejon, but maybe non of them. The other signing is Sahin.}

16 Aug 2012 15:08:02
people calling sahin the ''left footed'' alonso let me just remind you,being the biggest alonso fan i know,that there is and forever will be only one xabi! Not being negative because i'm super excited by the signing, if it goes through of course because nuri sahin is a super player! I'm really excited for the coming season. Good luck to brendan and the rest of the boys. Make us proud! Can't wait for the season to start. Thumping wba 4-0 on opening day will do just fine. Really believe we'll be challenging that feeder club for 4th place at the very least. Cheers guys and eds.
Capetownred

I referred to him previously as a 'left footed Alonso' simply because people don't seem to know where or how he plays, and it seems a pretty good description. Is he as good as Alonso? Well, considering its Alonso that is keeping him out of the RM side, I think that answers your question, but he is a similar type of player, and he is also far too good a player to be getting only a handfull of games each season. My point was not so much that he is as good as Xabi, but that he is the same type of player, but left footed.

I agree, there is only 1 Alonso, but not just for footballing reasons, but as much because of the character of the man. Let's hope Sahin can measure up to him in 10 months time.

Why do people seem to think by tello getting an extension that he will not come on loan? If anything that means the opposite? No way are people literally that stupid. By the way I'm not saying he is defo comming to us but of doesn't it's not because he signed an extension.

Is there an unliterally way to be stupid? Confused much!

I would love Liverpool to get Sahin.
to also loan callejon option to buy and push the boat out and get Walcott. I actually think BR could get the best out of Walcott. He could be a great bit of Business.On form he is unstoppable .
What you think Eds ?
There all possible I guess? {Ed052's Note - Callejon probably low chance, but possible I guess}

Callejon will be Next Suarez for Liverpool. he is fast and some of his finish last year make me think he is a copy of C.Ronaldo {Ed052's Note - Well he wont be the next Surez then :P}

RVP, club captain moves to Utd. Agger basically refuses to go to another EPL club inc. the champions and openly states he will only go to Barca if forced. Sell him??...in this day and age we should be making him Vice Captain with that sort of loyalty and attitude...and rewarding him with a totally personalised training program to protect his fitness!!

have to laugh at the united fans celebrating spending 24m on a player who has had one good season in the 8 that he has played in england , saying they have the best strike force in the league which may be true or not but look at the midfield with two players nearly forty or their defence with two dodgy fullbacks and only one decent centre back in vidic not to mention their flapjack keeper if i was them id be more worried about keeping the goals out than scoring them !!

Have to laugh at Liverpool spending £35m on Carroll and £20m on Downing.

Lets not worry about the red mancs. I mean its a surprise for them to land a target or a desperate resort. Schneider and moura and co.

Mighty reds

Have to laugh at you giving Wellbeck 65K to sit on the bench with Chicarita so you can try to fit RVP into a team lineup. Bet the Chilean and 2 Div player you lot signed this summer are wondering why they did it now too. Can't wait to see Rooney trying his hand at CM.

Add up the salary plus the transfer fees and you'll find RVP cost more.

28m on veron, 30m on ferdinand got biggest laugh of all

30M on Ferdinand, a joke? Are you serious mate? He's played a huge role in winning us trophies pretty much every single season since he's been at OT! He paid off his transfer fee within 3years!

You lot make me laugh. Stop talkign about United - you're no longer a rival. If you finish above 6th this season, then we'll talk rivalry again/

For now, you're a mid-table team who couldnt even tempt Sigurdsson to Anfield and have signed an admittedly talented young Swansea midfielder to date.

WHo's struggling?!

Please remember for the same figure you paid for Carroll, we added 4m and got both the Bundesliga 2011/12 player of the season and the EPL equivalent.

Laughable indeed......easily THE most deluded crop of fans in the league. Everton will embarass you again in the league standings!

Here's to another season of rivalry - United/Chelsea/City/Arsenal. And that's all.

16 Aug 2012 14:41:13
Hey Eds

Is it tru that Ramirez's agent is at anfield? {Ed052's Note - Yes, he has been for some hours, just agreeing terms now.}

Are you being sarcastic Ed? {Ed052's Note - never}

Not funny ed
TT

Sorry this may sound stupid but are you being sarcastic eds?

Thanks {Ed052's Note - yes, yes I was}

Well that's a lie eds... {Ed052's Note - Sarcasm, never mind}

Surely he's in Southampton?

JRG {Ed052's Note - Or maybe just Italy?]

This will be his sixth liverpool contact

Sarcasm is wasted Ed, you know we hang on every word you print!Ha

Ok, so I'm gonna have my guess at the 2 players that will very likely be coming in the next 48 hours.

I think we're all agree that one of them is Nuri Sahin.

The other.....I think is Walcott! I just think this bad week of Arsenal players leaving is going to continue!

I also think, Adam will be gone by the end of this weekend and Dempsey will sign shortly after.

Just my guesses on the senario. In all honesty, if its just Sahin that signs in the 48 hours I will be a very happy man!

By the way Ed052, I see your putting yourself up for the winger that LFC need.....if you need an agent call me ;)

K.Bennett {Ed052's Note - haha, thanks mate.}

16 Aug 2012 14:48:03
i would consider it a successful transfer window if we manage to get the following

Sahin on loan
Callejon for the reported 17-18m euros (around £14m)
Dempsey for £8m
and Walcott for £15m

but to do that we would have to sell
Carroll £17m
Adam £6m
and Agger for around £23m (which up to £10m of that would be used to fund a replacement)

I only think we're getting 3 players from now till the end of August. Sahin on loan, Dempsey and if not tello on loan it looks like its out of Walcott, AJ, Ramirez and now callejon.

Carroll, Adam, spearing, Pacheco and if we purchase one of the latter from above then I see agger going as well.

16 Aug 2012 14:32:21
Seems Tello has decided to stay and sign a new contract at Barca so that one is out the window.. I hope the Sahin deal is tied up now! Would like to see Dempsey join but hear he is going elsewhere. Maybe time to bid for Walcott, also I think Defoe would be a decent buy.

Hi
Is there anywhere I can watch brendon Rodgers interview I don't pay for the lfc thing so I can't watch it on there :|

Cheers

16 Aug 2012 14:38:16
Like to start by saying great site Eds.
I know alot of rumours are generally made up that is why this site is very interesting. You can take what I am about to say or just ignore it, but its the truth
I live opposite John Lennon International Airport and just driven back home and noticed alot of press including representatives from Liverpool congragating outside the main arrivals entrance at the airport. Just looked on teletext and there are 2 flights to arrive around 15.30 coming in from spain.
This could mean either Sahin or Tello or both arriving.
Could this mean liverpool have been successful in getting both players. It has been reported today that BR is about to confirm 2 new arrivals
What do you think Eds is it both or has liverpool been touting somebody else that the reporting of has been quiet lately i.e Dempsey

16 Aug 2012 14:22:13
So what's happening lads?

Sahin within the next 24 hours?

What about Adam, Carroll, Callejon, and Dempsey?

I'd be very happy with these transfers if they were to happen, but what are the chances of all of them going through? {Ed052's Note - Its all very exciting}

Sahin, callejon and muniain

^ That would be good!

16 Aug 2012 14:22:25
For those who are doubting Sahin's ability, he was Bundesliga player of the year at the age of 21 before he moved to Madrid, which is why they bought him in the first place. No doubt he'll be a fantastic addition.

16 Aug 2012 14:16:45
Hey Eds, have Spurs shown any interest in Andy Carroll recently? They are a couple of strikers short of a full squad and surely will have the funds following Modric's departure. {Ed052's Note - nah}

16 Aug 2012 14:13:25
Ed with Arsenal now getting some cash, do you see them trying to sign Tello and Sahin as I believe they were also interested in them?
Also with RVP's destination now known, do you see interest in Suarez again from a few clubs? {Ed052's Note - nah, I would say Sahin is in the bag.}

16 Aug 2012 14:12:51
Ed's, What are the chances of some of the younger lads getting some games this season?
Not just Flano, Robinson, & Kelly, I'm thinking:
Suso
Raheem
Wisdom
coady
dani pacheco(is he even still here?) {Ed052's Note - High}

16 Aug 2012 14:11:29
Borini - £10.5m
Allen - £15m
Sahin - loan
Walcott - £15m
Dempsey - £8m
Lovren - £7.5m
= £55.5m

Agger - £20m
Carroll - £17m
Adam - £6m
Bellamy - £2m
= £45m

Only signing that really cost us would be Borini for £10.5m

16 Aug 2012 14:11:11
Do we need to sell both Carroll and Agger - or is it one or the other? {Ed052's Note - We dont NEED to sell either}

16 Aug 2012 14:07:51
: Manchester United have signed Bwin on a 3 year deal. He supposedly plays CM.

RedsMatt {Ed052's Note - Hes injury prone}

Ah well, there's another firm to boycott.

16 Aug 2012 13:55:58
as br has showed in the friendlies, we will be playing a 4 1 2 2 1 formation that by maybe our second match will look like this
----------------reina
glenjo------skrtel----agger------enrique
----------------lucas
-----allen-----------------sahin
-------gerrard-----------suarez
-----------------borini
or suarez up front, borini on the bench and tello or walcott in the suarez position
hope tis helps

16 Aug 2012 13:50:21
With brendon Rodgers saying he hopes to sign 1-2 players in the 48 hours eds do you have any idea who they might be thanks {Ed052's Note - Sahin and someone else}

Wat club does S. Else play for...never heard of him

:P

16 Aug 2012 13:49:14
Hey Eds or anyone reliable, just to clarify things, on a scale of 10 - 1, 10 being the highest, how likely would you say the following players are to leaving or joining
- Dempsey
- Sahin
- Tello
- Walcott
- Adam Johnson
- Callejon
- Ramirez
- Carroll
- Adam
- Spearing
- Agger
Thanks
Dan {Ed052's Note - we dont normally do a scale of 1-10, but its your lucky day. 6, 9, 7, 5, 4, 3, 0, 5, 7, 7, 7.}

To get the top three and lose the bottom three would be fine by me

Steve mclaren has a brazilian??

16 Aug 2012 13:45:18
Not in relation to transfers, just a point for discussion. Why are Arsenal so immune to the press? They haven't won anything for years, they are more of a feeder club than we are, losing their best players to other clubs. We only sold Torres and Meireles! They consistently reach the CL, yet do nothing, they seem to get decent money for their players yet don't seem to reinvest, ie last summer where they sold Cesc, Nasri and Clichy.

I don't have a problem with Arsenal, I actually have a huge amount of respect for the club, but have heard many comments from their supporters over the last few days regarding the loaning of Sahin, saying why would he choose us, and being annoyed about him going to a 'rival' (implying that LFC are no longer Arsenal's rivals because they are by far superior). The press do seem to lay off Arsenal, same as they seem to have over JT's trial.

Does the fact that AFC get top 4 every season really make them that superior and create this immunity? Surely clubs want to be in the CL to win it, and for the cash, but AFC don't seem to take advantage of either. I'm not saying they're rubbish at all, theyre a good team, but how do their supporters have the right to be so high and mighty?

Every teams has supporters with strange ideas. We even have quite a few on here

Gav

Arsenal always get ripped on, especially Wenger who is the 2nd best manager in the league. It's just United and Spurs who get favourable press, and for Spurs it was just cause 'Arry told them everything and ass licked them clean.

16 Aug 2012 13:41:15
We could potentially play 60+ games this season so people need to stop thinking that a new signing pushes a certain player out the starting line up, there cant and wont be a set starting line up

RedPJ

16 Aug 2012 13:40:14
Hi eds
People are saying callejon will sign but I haven't heard any rumours.Do you think any chance of him? {Ed052's Note - I've heard the rumours, loud and clear.}

Ed do you think they hold any value? {Ed052's Note - As I have said, we will find out soon}

16 Aug 2012 13:39:46
ok its just come from the horses mouth we dont have any funds for players.........we have to sell before we buy.....so once again top 8 finish

At long last Shergar has been found

Lol, funniest response of the day.

Ginger Rodgers

So we haven't just forked out £25mn with about £6mn coming in from sales - my mistake. Scouser Tommy

Hmm, I think you're right with your prediction of a top 8 finish. Fourth is definately between 1st and 8th.

16 Aug 2012 13:38:12
Hi eds just a quick question, if Agger was to play for us against WBA would that means he would be cup tied and wont be able to play for city in the premier league this season?

More reason for him to go to barcalona. {Ed052's Note - No}

Does his inclusion in he Europa League game against Gomel, exclude him from any Champs League games too Eds??

CoolhandLFC

He can play CL and EL with other team as qualification not count in uefa

16 Aug 2012 13:32:50
If we do endim. As for Dempsey up selling Agger we need to spend that money on getting a top class winger instead of signing a replacement. We already have Coates who looks ready to step up. Kelly can revert back to centre back and we can use Flanagan as backup for Johnson. I hope when people think of a top class winger they don't think of Walcott or Dempsey. Walcott is one of the biggest let downs of the last 5 years, and is a perfect example of an English media that overhypes everything. Oxdale-Chamberlain for me is already at his level and is what 5 years younger? Dempsey should only be a plan B if we can't get who we want in. Surely Ramirez would be better for 12-15m than Dempsey for 10m or Walcott for 15m? Jovetic, Callejon would also be great targets.

If you think Ramirez would be far better than Dempsey then either
A. You have only watched one or the other play
Or
B. you have watched neither play

Ramirez would be better than Dempsey, im pretty sure no one would argue with that. Likeliness of getting him is slim. Dempsey is a more likely to be purchased.

16 Aug 2012 13:29:47
Please give me some good news eds just found out my a-level results so i need cheering up! who are the two or one player rodgers hopes to sign in next 48 hours

Mate A levels are important but i done pretty crap and now i get paid loads its hard work that really gets you to where you need to go.

Disagree with red raj because I cocked up my a levels and now get paid a lot of money for a p**s easy job and getting that job was pretty easy too! Don't mislead our youth and tell them they need to work harder because they just need to work smarter!

16 Aug 2012 13:29:00
I've hear'd a rumour that Stoke have put an offer in to loan Carroll for the season, it could be a good move for AC, but I suspect wages would be an issue. Is there any truth in this Stoke bid??

He'd suit them

16 Aug 2012 13:27:14
LFC Boss wants to bring in 2 new players with in the next 48 hours .

Possible Signings :

Sahin (Real Madrid)

Callejon (Real Madrid)

Tello (Barcelona)

Walcott (Arsenal)

Ashley Williams (Swansea)

Dempsey (Fulham)

Zaha (Crystal Palace)

Kaka (Real Madrid)

16 Aug 2012 13:27:14
There are going to be 2 new signings made before or just after kick off on Saturday.
Sahin been one of them, you guys can make up your minds on the 2nd one.
Any thought?

FowlerGod.

Tello of course

I can't see Tello wanting to come to LFC due to his comments saying "going to LFC would be a step down"
Rumours saying Dempsey going Arsenal, i can see that happening really, depending about that Adam deal with Dempsey.
I can't see Arsenal letting go of Walcott. I still don't really rate the lad.
Exciting times at LFC.

FowlerGod.

What club isn't a step down from barca... I think tello is a bit dim

Hi Eds

Can i ask what the point is signing to loan players (sahin and Tello) we need to have stability in the squad and sure they may get us top 4 but after that what happens when they leave back to their parent clubs? {Ed052's Note - Dunno really, why get loan players. Silly Brendan getting two world class players on loan. Silly silly.}

Not really world class, sahin maybe

I wish their was an agree buttons for the eds comments I keep pressing agree after reading the eds comment then realised I just agreed with another idiotic post

I sayed that yesterday.Tommy irish Red

16 Aug 2012 13:20:06
More from Brendan Rodgers ahead of his first Premier League match in charge of Liverpool at West Brom on Saturday: "I am hopeful we can bring in one or two more to help the group here.

"I'll find out later. We hope in the next couple of days we'll have one or two coming in. Hopefully in the next 48 hours we will find out."

Liverpool have been strongly linked with loan deals for Barcelona winger Cristian Tello, 21, and Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, 23.

16 Aug 2012 13:18:45
okay this is the person that wrote the post the other day on 'football as a business'. This might be a long one. To those asking why I didn't sign off, I usually prefer to do so. On such a controversial topic, it's probably better anyway to come from a neutral poster. I used to have a pseudonym, if you will, and also a regular user but it got to the point where my posts were just being disagreed with for the fun of it. Literally, I would post two posts, both the same message but phrased differently. Unsurprisingly, everyone agreed with the anonymous one rather than the signed one. Strange that.

Anyway. Addressing the feedback to the post it is clear that some of you have completely got the wrong end of the stick and others haven't even read it. Many of you did agree, and that was nice.

If you read it carefully, I never actually suggested we mimic the reckless methods city (and other teams of their ilk) have to acquire their success. They have set an ugly benchmark on world football that every other team suffers the repercussions of. This inflates the price of every other player based on their mindless purchase. I would never advocate we spend £30m on this player and £40m on that player.

There are certain traits of ours that do not have to compromised to rival these teams. We can still bring players through the academy and use them, IF they are up to standard and let's be honest, those who cut truly cut it at the top level are few and far between. Not every player in our current youth system or reserve team will be in the future liverpool squad, many will fall short and end up in lower leagues, others will be a Bolton-esque standard, and a lucky few will be good enough to be in the first team. Football is a harsh and unforgiving line of business, (that many fans are naive to), wherein rejection must be accepted. We have our ethos of creating talent, which I treasure and respect like all of you. But we must not, and cannot, be ignorant and tolerate an under-par player (or manager!) because of sentiments, because as I have said, business is no place for such thing. They are a liability, they cause compromises, and if we want to be successful, then you must be cruel to be kind. No exceptions.

Yes that is extremely cold hearted, Mr Keyboard Warrior, but it is a cold hearted business whether you chose to accept it or not. Applying this into a scenario, if a player (not naming names) doesn't have the fundamental talent, then it is the logical decision to cut the ties. If a bid comes in, in substantial excess of their valuation, and it could be used to better level the team, then that is also logical. The replacements must be shrewd and sound investments that are value for money. I don't know how people got the insinuation to buy players for extortionate amounts like city... Liverpool have become a mocking stock in the transfer market, the opposite of our tradition of buying wisely and letting them climb the ladder. That is all well and fine, if they are potentially good enough. Over spending on average players and expecting us to become Barcelona is asking for ridicule.

The question I am trying to pose is; how do you combat a relentless shopping spree of world class talent whilst maintaining a confined budget? That is the basic challenge here, so what is the solution? The more they spend, the more pressure we are under to keep up as they drift further and further on. We all want the same thing, how else do you see it possible? Since we are not in a position to buy players of that valuation and offer them the ridiculously lucrative salaries they earn, that suggestion is an obsolete one. We must use what investment we can sensibly, to little by little strengthen the weakest parts of our team, without being biased by sentiments. That was the core of my argument. If you are swayed by sentiments, it collapses your whole effort. You defeat yourself, what then?

Picking up on other points, the community doesn't necessarily have to be compromised, but the community aspect mustn't stand in the way of the better judgement.

As correctly said, Torres is testament to what I'm saying.

As for buying a replacement for Agger at this moment in time, my only response is what replacement did Newcastle have when they sold Carroll? They had no major back-up but survived until the next window and look who did better in the long run. Godin would be my shout, if he is sold, although as you say the adaptive period is long.

sorry its a long winded one, hope that makes sense. Was a long day yesterday and am not entirely all here.

Why i repect your opinion on such matters you were completely wrong in your first sentence, the current ugly benchmark in football transfers was not set by city but from their manchester rivals and im not talking £30 million Rooney, Ferdinand and Berbatov im talking about their stance in making sure Madrid payed the extortionate about of money for Ronaldo every transfer since then has been based on this, but thats just my opinion

Read it, read it again, then read it again just to make sure I wasn't missing something - now decided I haven't and I came to the conclusion - what was the point of the post?
Lots of words, that actually said nothing pertinent to a banter/rumour site, could have been said in far less words - something like:-
We haven't got the money to compete with the big spending clubs at the moment.
There you go.

John B

John B, you do appear to be a little obsessed with Citys spending while not mentioning Uniteds or Chelseas are you sure your Liverpool red?

Congratulations on the most long winded boring text to ever appear here, stick to banter and crap rumours and not inane self opinionated garbage

Whilst it is true that the original; poster got carried away with his prose I must say that in essence I agree with him

16 Aug 2012 13:17:49
a website reporting that brenden Rodgers had said that he expects 'one or two' more signings in the next 48 hours! {Ed052's Note - he did say that}

Actually, I think he said he expects to hear about 1 or 2 signings shortly- bit different I think to the paperwork being done and dusted in that time frame. But guess we'll see...

16 Aug 2012 13:17:17
why are we looking at sahin?? We need another striker! {Ed052's Note - No we need both}

16 Aug 2012 13:12:31
isit just me that thinks we have too many midfileder and looks possible another 2 may come in with ramirez and sahin strongly linked

so stevie lucas allen hendo spearing adam jonjo ramirez and sahin all vieing for what will probonly be a 3 man midfield ??? {Ed052's Note - Ramirez wont sign and we need Sahin}

16 Aug 2012 13:09:08
I'm assuming that Sahin is coming in as direct competition for Gerrards spot, which is good management from Brendan.

I also believe Agger will stay.

We look to be setting up along the lines of:

-----------Reina------------
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
----------Lucas------------
---Gerrard(Sahin) -- Allen---
??------Borini------Suarez

?? = Dempsey? Downing? Walcott? A Johnson? Tello?

Subs: Gulasci. Jones. Sterling. Coates. Carra. Robinson. Flanna. Shelvey. Spearing. Carroll? Morgan?

Looks Like Adam is out.

I've noticed which part you removed from my last post ed052. It was just an expression of my exact thinking at that moment. Sorry ed, won't happen again!

K.Bennett {Ed052's Note - No, my bad. I'm just a very careful Ed mate. I just want to make sure there's no trouble.Im sure you understand. Thanks mate.}

Of course I understand Ed052 mate, no worries. :)

Does anyone else feel a little under-whelmed by the potential signing of Sahin? I feel he's too cumbersome to become a hit at Anfield. {Ed052's Note - hell no.}

My only worry with sahin is does he have the work ethic to do well? if he doesn't I don't care how good a player is I don't want him. If he works hard for the team then i'd be delighted. cheers

Danny {Ed052's Note - he does have a good work ethic}

Underwhelmed? No, no, no! The fellow is sublime. Just think of a left footed Alonso. He is real quality. I have to say I am amazed that he finds himself unable to get enough games at RM, and if we do sign him, even for a year, it is a great deal.

Nick

Well then I am happy ed :)

Danny

Sahin will be a better version of Alonos IMO.

16 Aug 2012 13:00:32
Hi Eds. Just a point about the Walcott interest. If he has supposedly been offered £80k a week by Arsenal but is holding out for more, how could he be a realistic signing for us? I'm assuming he'd only move for more than Arsenal would pay him. Any thoughts?

JimK {Ed052's Note - Well, he supports LFC, thus a lower wage, and we could afford 80k too.}

16 Aug 2012 13:00:32
Ed is there a deadline for Stadia decision from Liverpool Council or banks? {Ed052's Note - There's no rush. The owners will do best for the club.}

16 Aug 2012 12:58:40
Charlie Adam has his pick of clubs, with West Ham, Sunderland, Fulham, and QPR all interested in either a loan or permanent deal.

16 Aug 2012 12:56:40
Buck Rogers has confirmed in todays press conference that he expects "1 or 2 more signings within 48 hours"! {Ed052's Note - YES}

Sahin and Dempsey apparently, not looking good for Charlie Adam, Sahin will be his replacement for the season at least. Sahin is very similar to Xabi Alonso, 40 yard passes with ease and precision... The squad is looking very good at the moment i must say. We could get another striker if Carroll decides to return to Newcastle

Rocky

16 Aug 2012 12:54:35
Just wondering what you guys think about the most likely starters if we were to sign both Sahin and Dempsey, would Borini be benched with Lucas-Allen-Sahin + Gerrard - Suarez - Dempsey?

Why wud gerrard be played with dempsey and Suarez?!? Gerrard is a midfielder not a forward

Could be or Sahin as a pretty decent sub for Gerrard and have Borini on at the start. If we get a couple of other players, this year could be looking good. Having the possibility to swop and change around the squad a formation a bit is a huge advantage due to the extra games from the Europa league. Don't forget we can use players like Sterling and Suso aswell.

FowlerGod.

That would be my attacking line up too... SUarez taking a false 9 role..

Now thats an excellent attacking line up on the paper if gets on the track on the pitch.. watch out its good enough to challenge for title

Bosco

-------------Reina-------------
.Johnson--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique.
----------Lucas---Allen---------
--------------Sahin-------------
-------------Gerrard------------

Spare a thought to the arsenal fans. No matter what club you support you are never safe from the money grabbing judas

Rvp was right toleave , torres was right to leave us too,they both had ambitions greater than their club so moved to a club that matched them, if anything arsenal have let rvp down

I have no sympathy for them. They have just sold a 29-year old for £24m that they bought for £2.75m 8-years ago and who has scored the same number of goals since January 2011 as he did in the period August 2004 - December 2010!

What a great piece of business. I would be laughing all the way to the bank manager!

JRG

I'd rather laugh at them. Top 4 here we come!

16 Aug 2012 12:46:22
Hi eds i wrote a post the other day stating that dempsey would be signing and is almost sorted out sahin will be coming on loan. There is interest in walcott but only if we sell agger or carrol will a serious bid go in and then relacement cb. there is no other money available other that what comes in from sales. though some funds to finance a loan deal will be made available. Arsenal i feel will play hardball with walcot as they look resigned to losing RVP and will not want to upset fans by seling two stars in one window

Cumbrian Red, all you are telling us is stuff we already knew. In fact your information seems to actually come from the rumour page. I don't think you actually have any insider knowledge.

Nuri Sahin - loan
Jose Callejon - £14m
Dempsey - £8m
CB replacement for Agger - (£10m highest we want to go)
Quaresma - £6.3m
= £38.3m + £25m (Joe and Fabio) = £63.3m

£48.5m - £63.3 = £14.8m net spending

Bekkamy went on a free so mark him of your list

Cannot believe people think we'd let Carroll go for such a low amount.

Eds, with RVP going to ManU, is there any chance of us getting Hernandez from ManU? Id prefer him to walcot. Or is the answer another predictable, "not a chance Im afraid?" {Ed052's Note - Heck no}

It's a "there is no chance we'd waste our money"

Adam to Norwich
Reina to PSG!

Agger to City?! Whoa, I haven't read that here before. {Ed019's Note - Hahahaha}

When does the transfer window officially close? Am I right in thinking it will be monday 3rd september as it would be unusual for it to close on a friday night with fixtures on the saturday?

Those who have been slagging off FSG need to think again, not only did they back us last year, and see us squander over a hundred million of their money, but they could very well back us with around £50m this summer too:
Borini £11m
Allen £15m
Sahin Loan
Dempsey £8m
De Vries £1m
Walcott £15m

Gunna put this out there and put myself in the firing line.

Last season in the mayority of games Liverpool played as near to "pure football" as any club in the prem. Not only were the likes of Norwich, Sunderland and Everton outplayed we also out shone City, United and Chelsea in games against them.

We had 3 major problems.

1. We couldn't score- we put teams to the sword but for some reason couldn't finish them off. 2 games stand out above others. Norwich were we totally dominated and managed just 1 goal allowing holt to put them back level and United in October. We were more dominant than the 4-1 victory at old Trafford but again struggled to finish.

2. We conceded silly goals- like the 2 games mentioned above we let tight leads or even draws slip away with careless moments.

3. We were simply unlucky a lot of the time.

I know people will pick out 3 or 4 games where we were poor but all teams have a few odd games.

I don't see it like BR has a terrible difficult task. The signings Kenny made all started looking strong toward the end of the season (with the exception of Adam who was injured).

I look at the likes of Downing, Henderson and Carroll with great joy. Even if they don't prove to become first team regulars there much better option to have on the bench than what we have had for a lot of years now.

I used to look at our bench for options and shudder when seeing the likes of Djokvic (or whatever his name was) kyriakos, El Zhar, Pulson, veronin, Ngog etc etc.

None of these were capable of doing anything to change a game the way players we have now are. And were also on vast wages. Which effect a clubs finances a lot more than transfer fees.

Let's stop worrying about how much we are paying for players and look at the players we have and what they offer.

Young players like Suso, Sterling, Shelvey, Coates are gambles but surely cheaper gambles than what you are all demanding.

Those demanding signings like RVP and Canivi, need to look at the bigger picture. All signings carry an element of risk look at Berbatov to United or Shevchenko to Chelsea. Neither really worked out.

Then there are the likes of Lucas, Bale, Alex Song etc who joined clubs young and took a long time to settle. Maybe those quick to condem Hendo and Carroll should bear this in mind.

Not much was needed to turn Liverpool around maybe we now have the elements needed already. Only the coming season will prove me right or wrong but in looking forward too it.

Optimistic Red

No mate, I totally agree with you. We were VERY unlucky in alot of games last season. People always say the league never lies - absolutely cr*p! Apart from anything else, mathematically, 1 home game and 1 away game against 19 other teams is not enough data to satisfy a statistician. They would tell you in a heartbeat that that is not a big enough information pool. My point is that there is no doubt in my mind that our league position was a hell of a lot worse than the quality of football played. A person can see that. This season, it is looking like we will have a better squad. I will keep my fingers crossed that we have a bit more luck, as unfortunately, a bit of luck is also a requirement.

I can't wait till tomorrow - is like I'm 10 again!

Nick

Agree with most of it except the bit about Berbatov. In his case he was forced in to being a write-off.

Berbatov was top goalscorer in 2010/11, not exactly the biggest flop going.

Out of left field. One signing that will get me super excited is striker falcao....wishful thinking?!? {Ed052's Note - Yes}

16 Aug 2012 12:06:54
I cannot believ RVP has signed for UTD

Kagawa
Rooney
RVP
Hernandez
Berbatov
Welbeck

This has to be the best strike force i have ever seen and it sickens me that it is our main rivals.

We need another striker (Proven) IMO to be able to rotate effectively and compete.

Dempsey is a good option and as well all know there is interest.

I feel currently we do have a good squad and although ATM only two players have came in, we have got rid of some big earners and also the youth team seems to be full of potential world class.

However i still feel we need to sign a descent winger, proven striker and hopefully poach Sahin which looks to be a done deal.

I think we will challenge for top four this season on current team however i think if we where to sign a descent winger, a proven goalscoring striker happy days.

Borini looks to be a great player however the amount of pressure currently on his head is overwhelming, he is automatically a starter in everyones team but he may struggle to cope with the EPL, i hope we nurse him properly into the system and dont just throw him in and rely on him.

This is what we done wrong with Henderson.
All be it for 20million i would be able to deal with any pressure.

I really hope we do well this season and i really hope we get behind the team even when the going gets tough. We were so unlucky last season.

LTP The Red

(21 today) woop {Ed052's Note - Happy B'Day mate, but what you say about UTD's strike force is utter rubbish, Im sorry. RVP isn't that good, look at the Euros. Also, he will get injured this season. Anyway, him and Rooney wont be able to play together. Welbeck hardly scores, and little Pea doesn't klnow where the net is anymore. Berbatov is going, and Kagawa doesn't score that many, and is unproven. If I were UTD, I would be worrying still.}

Haha, listen I'm a LFC fan as well ED but to say RVP isn't that good is a bit ridiculous. I agree he has to stay away from injuries. But that forward lineup is stout

LTP THE RED are u for real? Best strike force uv ever seen? WOW, berbatov? Wellbeck? Hernandez? U are obviously a united fan and coming on here making believe ur a Liverpool fan, nugget!

Most definitely not a City fan - but I'd prefer there strike force than Utd's - Aguero, Tevez, Balotelli, Dzeko - and they still have Adebayor at the moment, David Silva isn't too shabby in front of goal.

Which brings me on to our own forward line -
Carroll - can't have another bad season
Saurez
Borini

and hopefully at least one more to come.

It's not uncommon for two world class strikers to struggle to play together. Look at Torres & Drogba.

Lewis the Red

Calm down lad, lets look at the facts on UTD'S strikers,

Kagawa, unproven in EPL
Rooney, fair enough
RVP, 1 good season, 3 seasons injured
Hernandez, decent opening season, then sufferd second season syndrome
Berbatov, lazy, utd cant get rid quick enough
Welbeck, not yet proven and hardly prolific.

Im the biggest liverpool fan on the planet, but it scares me too see the heavy investments being well spent on the utd front.
I do fear there attack. i pray to god they dont work together.
Thanks for the happy bday aswell ed52 appreciate it very much mate

Eds, if Agger were to be sold, do you think kyriakos papadopoulos would be a realistic option? {Ed052's Note - No}

16 Aug 2012 11:58:13
Anyone else think we should put in a bid for Javier Hernandez from Man U? Exactly the type of player we need, a fox in the box with a proven premiership goalscoring record. Hes 24 now and his first team chances will be very limited behind Rooney, RVP and Welbeck, so could be up for a change.

IMO a front 3 of Suarez, Hernandez and Borini would be a good quality mix.

Mark C {Ed052's Note - Erm, no}

I said earlier about Liverpool unvailing sahin and you said you doubt it ! So does this mean we have actually signed him then ? {Ed052's Note - G'Day mate. No we haven't signed him yet, but I meant the conformation of him signing wouldn't be at a press confectioner, its not the Liverpool way.}

Just read the interview with John Henry on the LFC website and makes a good read. When they took over a few on this site, editors included, said it was going to be a long job turning things round, staff wise, financially and on the field, which I agreed with. The signs are there slowly, young manager, clearing the dead wood high earners, albeit taking a hit short term, and bringing in good young, hungry players. He does seem to pin his hopes on the Financial Fair Play rules coming in, which will hopefully bring us more into the mix, as we cant compete financially with the clubs that are getting bankrolled at the mo. I think that we'll be ok this season, fighting for fourth at how things look. Utd, with RVP have probably taken the favourites tag for now, city will be stronger for having a settled team, and chelsea will be stronger due to their new attacking players although i think they look short at the back. I think it will be between us,arsenal and spurs next, although everton and newcastle will give teams hard games. hers hoping for a good season Reds.

Morning all i am daily visitor to the site.
I recently have seen alot of people saying that we have no funds etc. This is a lie as a mate of mine spoke to mr.rush and hes said the funds are there but the owners want to make sure whoever they buy wether it be 1 million or 30 million will benefit the club and the squad. So that there isnt another carroll incident.
Dont rule out anything with liverpool football club.
Looking forward to the season ahead with the new style of football!
Redman12

If that's the case why didn't we bid for Van Persie, I think your up your own what's it.

Hey Blondie

For what reason would you want to bid for RVP ?? 24 million for a 29 year old with a poor injury record? Would it be just to show we had cash?

Mike S

Um! this being the 29 year old who has just had his best season and managed to stay injury free. he will be in the treatment room by september.

That's because van persie is a massive risk! 70 million over his contract. He scored 130 odd goals over 8 or 9 seasons, he's almost 30, and injury prone. There's no doubt that on his day he is quality, but how many of them will you get for your 70 million?

Nick

You do know van persie could cost close to 70m

16 Aug 2012 11:27:09
BR's team this year will be a carbon copy formation of Barca. Vefy high line. With the two center backs playing wider apart and lucas dropping in between them. Allen will then sit in front of lucas and the wingback will push up the pick playing more on the same line as Gerrard. The inside forwards will cut in allowing the wingbacks to run down the line. The striker will sit on the last man though the front four will rotate and switch positions with each other during the course of the 90min so to prevent being man marked and to pull the defence out of position. This will be the set formation. Where luca/sergio, allen/xavi, Gerrard/iniesta, suarez/villa, and an inside forward on either saide in the messi and other inside forward position....
There will be no 4-4-2. BR's formation is much more fluid. There is no other wqy to play the tiki taka successfully other than 2-1-3-1-2-1
YnWA The Pirate

4-3-3 will be first.
Zonally / offensively they will look 2-1-3-1-2-1.
Once mastered and confident we can then go Barca esque, and remember Barca formation suits a much slower league.

I've seen ed019 mention that Van Persie is gonna cost Man Utd over 70 mil over the course of the transfer!

And some people on here were moaning about the fact that we were not attempting get him and/or United are getting stronger.

Would you really want FSG to spend 70 mil on him? Like seriously?

As for Man U buying him......can anyone say BIG GAMBLE?

Ps, got my fingers crossed for Sahin us to join asap!

Yeh I Would Agree 100%. He is a bit like Agger, class but Injury prone.

I am not English but couldn't believe I was watching a Roy Hodgson team last night. They kept possession played a 4231 formation and played a very European style of football with Adam Johnson and young regularly coming across the park using the full backs to give width. I was very impressed and were very good to watch.

All I could see was long balls and crosses to nobody.

MIKEY

Not sure if any of the "non-local" Ed's will put this up but as far as i'm concerned, Liverpool FC come first and the reserves second and I don't really care about how england do so long as our players aquite themselves reasonably OK but more imprortant do not get injured. I'm not really that patriotic although I did find the London olympics were much better than expected - but they were the LONDON Games - not the GB games - perception is reality and thats how I see it.

16 Aug 2012 10:53:42
I am really looking forward to this season and with the signing of sahin we have got one of the best young midfielders in the world. After that if we could add 1 or 2 of tello affellay Walcott callejon Adam Johnson we won't be far away.

I was looking forward to the new season until I saw Reina's performance for Spain last night .

Does anyone know what is the matter with him , apart from dog troubles .

Yes, but who's going to be putting the ball in the net for us?

16 Aug 2012 10:48:32
Hi eds quick question, and please don't just ask me to use the search function, but in your opinion will we sign another wide player if we don't snap up Tello?
Cheers, Irishdom15 {Ed052's Note - Yes}

We will sign two wide men as Rodgers wants three natural wide men and we only have downing.

And sterling, I still believe walcott will be signed aswell.

So where will joe cole fit in? CAM?

I wouldn't call Downing a natural

Callejon for me :0)
Piddy.

Rodgers doesn't play like that. The three forwards and the CAM are expected to rotate with each other frequently during the game. That confuses defenders and makes them unsure as to whether to track their man or hold their position.

Use the search function.

Not a rumour as I have no sources, not even of the hp or ketchup variety!! On the Dagger situation IF he does stay fantastic, but if he moves to Barca of course I'll be gutted but at least I'll still have he upmost respect in that he didn't and doesn't want to move to a rival club in the Premiership!! Unlike the judas that is RVP, Dagger will always be welcome at Anfield whereas The Gooners are gonna forever hate RVP now! Dagger is a True Red.......

2 days to go till the start of the season, a few more signings to come as reiterated by BR, hopefully Sahin, Tello, Dempsey and lastly Walcott which will greatly improve our chances of a top 4 finish, and weaken the Gooners even further!

Excited for his season.........I'm ever the optimist!

CoolhandLFC JFT96

Rvp is the same as torres disloyal n all about the money ! {Ed052's Note - So true}

I'm gonna be so frustrated if we let Ramirez go to Spuds and sign Theo Wontcross instead.

16 Aug 2012 10:43:56
Eds / Reds,
BR started Stewart Downing on the left on Sunday, and that's his better wing.
We had young Sterling start on the right. Now he's gonna be a corker, but that's the first good long look I've seen of him in the flesh so to speak. He is very slight, whippet-like and the German no.2 was trying to bully him about. The match confirmed to me, Sterling's too young to be regularly starting. Cameos ok, but otherwise he'd get mashed up.

If Liverpool do get Sahin, a wide man and / or Dempsey, thats the squad sown up for this year. Hendo & Shelvey as back-up mids, options out wide and up front.
Adam will go, and i think the club will recoup funds by selling Carroll too. Thats where I think we're going. And it would leave us pretty well off too.
Icky

Didnt Sterling start on the left, therefore Enrique the LEFT back put him in to score his goal after two minutes?

Cobra

Lol, meant to say Downing on the right & Sterling were on the left. Doh !
You know what i meant anyway.
Icky

Don't know what match you were watching, but Sterling started on the left. If you saw his goal, he runs down the left wing, out-paces and then out-muscles the first defender then cuts towards the edge of the 18-yard box. Skips between the 2 defenders and curls a shot past the keeper inside the far post.

They must have switched pretty sharpish then because Sterlnig cut in from the right on the second minute and curled in an excellent shot.. How did you get 5 agrees? does anyone on here watch the games?

YNWA! (Adam)

..................REINA.......................

........................ALLEN...................
Dempsey..........Gerrard.........borini.
.....................suarez

Thats the formation.
The front 4 will rotate. Allen will sit behind.
YnWA the Pirate

Where does sahin go

Suarez should be converted into a winger as he can get past players with ease, however his shot to goal ratio is dreadful, the boy cant finish, he has very poor composure in front of goal, id have borini in the middle, a natural poacher always in the best positions, and can put the ball in the net.

Your forgetting about the fact that ager may be going and we are probably getting sahin

If you swap Suarez and Borini then it looks about right.What a team !! B

Im personally going for.......

....................REINA.......................
............skrtel.........Agger..............
Johnson............................VARGAS
.............SAHIN........Lucas..............
......................ALLEN......................

Maybe Dempsey, Tello and/or Callejon to come from the bench. Dont think we are going to get Walcott as well as Dempsey.

Great site! Ive heard rumours about interest in Callejon from Liverpool have you heard anything? Y.N.W.A

16 Aug 2012 10:40:27
Morning Ed's - I am keen to know where Sahin would play provided we sign him. My understanding is we will line up with a flat back four and play two holding midfielders, which I would expect to be Lucas and Allen with Gerrard sitting in the hole and three forwards Downing, Suarez and Borini. I guess Gerrard could play on the right too freeing up a free role for Shain in the hole? I also realise we may bring in Dempsey and Tello too who will rotate. Is this roughly the idea of how Liverpool will line up? YNWA {Ed052's Note - He will just be rotated. The CM will continuously change.}

Sahin won't start. He will either come on for gerrard or allen and fill their positions.
YNWA The Pirate

Sahin is too good to sit on the bench.
A front 3 of gerrard, suarez and borini, and a midfield of lucas, sahin and allen looks more likely.
Indian Buzzer

16 Aug 2012 10:35:50
Ed, do you think it is actually likely that we will sign walcott, will he be played as a main striker or a winger, personally I think we are in need of a back up striker!
Cheers
Brad {Ed052's Note - A striker come winger I would have thought.}

Tello is a striker come winger.

16 Aug 2012 10:33:44
can't see newcastle and spurs having good seasons so i recon the league will go
1. city
2. united
3. chelsea
4.lfc
5.arsenal
6.spurs
7.everton

i think that is a reasonable top 4 and the other 3 will have average seasons by the players they've lost and brought

City
Chelsea
United
Liverpool

Just out of interest, why do you think Newcastle will not have a good season? I'm a NUFC fan, (so a little biased) however we have basically the same team as last year with the added bonus of having Cisse from the start. Add to that the players that came in last season now have experience of the prem (Cabaye/Ben Arfa/Santon/Cisse/Krul), and so should get better. We also have a fully fit squad for a change, and long term injuries coming back (Taylor/Marveaux/Gosling). Add the batch of youngsters we have coming through (Vukic/Sammy Ameobi/Ferguson/Tav etc) Plus new signings coming in that may challenge the first team. Not sure why you judge us to have a poor season? Maybe a bit of wishful thinking.

Also, i would suggest that Chelsea may slip out of the top 4, and spurs to be nowhere near the top 4 this year.
My guess (on current signings etc would be)
City
Utd
Arsenal
NUFC
LFC
Chelsea
Spurs

Chelsea are far from steady at the back,they will score goals but i think we can beat them twice so move us up a place !! B

United
City
Chelsea
Arsenal/liverpool
Arsenal/Liverpool
Spurs
Newcastle

I can't decide if we are going to finish 4th or 5th.
It's going to be close. Arsenal will be worse off after losing RvP but we will be stronger. Could only be a point or 2 in it.
United will win the league I think, city close behind.
With Chelsea a good few points behind.
3rd, 4th, and 5th will be very close.

MIKEY

I think NUFC will struggle because you've got a smallish squad that has to compete in the Europa league too this season therefore it will be hard for your squad to manage that amount of games resulting in poorer results. Also, it appears that only 1 of Ba and Cisse can succeed at once and Ba's knee is a big worry. Also, Cisse won't necessarily be a big hit this season (a la Arshavin 2nd season at Arsenal) so your strikers aren't guaranteed to be a hit. Despite that you've got a solid defence and a good midfield so I couldn't rule you out at all. I think you'll challenge for 4th again but I think it may fall away towards Xmas due to the number of games and a possible striker crisis. My prediction for NUFC is 7th behind Spurs (5th) and us (6th), although that could change if Spurs don't sign anyone.
Joe

I get where you are coming from with the strikers, (we are supposed to be after another one), and the extra games is a problem. I would say that LFC are in the same boat. Squad is approx the same size, with a limited amount of goalscorers + extra games. An injury to Suarez, would leave you exposed in the same way.
I would laugh my arse off if Spurs and/or Chelsea finish below either/both of us (NUFC/LFC).

Why do NUFC fans think because they have cisse they are world beater as much as i hate EFC they dont go on like Jelavic is messi, shut up and face thet you will have too many games to keep up with the top 5

I cant believe Liverpool fans think they are world beaters either. Same squad minus a couple of important players (Kuyt, Maxi), with a disgruntled CF, and 2 new players (one a gamble, and the other another Adam situation).

More likely is:
City
Pool
Spurs
Ncu
Chelcsea
Man utd

16 Aug 2012 10:26:39
Hi Eds surely we have to be looking at a top centre forward is it a case we can not buy one until we sell carroll .dont get me wrong louis is world class i just worry if he got injured that the goals would dry up like last year.? {Ed052's Note - Theres no need to worry. A striker may come in, but plenty of attacking players will also be signed, e.g. Wingers etc.}

16 Aug 2012 10:24:05
................25 Reina
.....37 Skrtel ........ 5 Agger
2 Johnson ................ 3 Enrique
...............21 Lucas
.....24 Allen .......... 6 Sahin
...............8 Gerrard
.....18 Walcott ..... 7 Suarez

1 Butland/Jones, 34 Kelly, 14 Henderson, 9 Dempsey, 31 Sterling, 11 Tello, 29 Borini.

Coates, Shelvey, Downing, Suso, Morgan.

This is what our first team matchday squad could generally be picked from this season. Pretty strong aswell I think.

As much as I like the look of that, I assume we wouldnt see Walcott and Tello and I think we will need to loose one for some cash, maybe Agger. This is not what I want, but what I can see happening. Hopefully not, maybe Andy Carrol. Good looking line up and squad, Especially when you look at the ages overall. I dont think you will be too far off. I am excited.

Andy K

Borini will start- everything else possible.

It depends on how you define 'young' I guess. He is 27 years old, is not a starter at Valencia, and hence the possibility of a move.

Official LFC site say there is a press conference on tomorrow (thursday) at 12, is it just simply a talk about the season starting or will there be any transfers revealed tomorrow? Thanks eds {Ed002's Note - It'll deal with the season start and any other general matter that need clarifying.}

Alan shearer on Twitter about possible sahin deal:

What a signing for Liverpool, Nuri Sahin on loan. Arsenal losing out shows why cups and ambitions matter to players, Liverpool look strong.

TIMO THE RED

Alan shearer isn't on twitter

Who would want to impersonate Alan Shearer? Sad world.

Theres a press conference today for our game on saturday do you think we could here a transfer announcement
cheers laylow {Ed002's Note - I don't know.}

Newcastle fan coming in peace. How do you see this season going for you? Looking on as an outsider, i would be a little worried. On the surface LFC have let Bellamy, Kuyt, Maxi leave, who were all important last season (as well as Aquillani, Aurelio who can both do a job), and replaced with 2 relative gambles. Allen looks a good player, but so did Adam in his first premier league season. I honestly don't know about Borini, so can't really comment.
Do you think that you will be higher in the league this year? I think most NUFC fans see is slightly lower due to Europa extra games, so i can see us both being around 6th-8th place this season.

I lost you at Aquillani, Aurelio what job mate they haven't really played for us in two seasons.
Red Branch

Last season was one of our poorest and yet we got two cup finals! Obviously we are looking to improve so to be honest we won't even look at you as we climb that table

I have to agree with a lot of what you said. Borini and Allen are gambles and last season we got Adam and Downing and we were delighted and full of optimism. Of course you have to be as a fan. I think its a bit of a make or break season. Any improvement on last season would be good and a top 4 would be gret. If I am honest I would say 5th!! Although we may win the league!

Kenny didn't get the best out of some players, that's Rodgers job. I hope Suarez will achieve a goal scoring tally similar to that when he was at Ajax and playing for Uruguay

You forgot that we have another new signing- lucas leiva

16 Aug 2012 09:21:39
Had a look at some youtube footage of Sahin and as much as you can be? was really impressed, he's got a great left foot.
Does anyone else think he plays like and has the makings of a certain Graeme Souness.
Just read that Xabi Alonso has told him to come to Liverpool, after all didn't do Xabi's career any harm playing for us.
Certainly hope we get him.
kidmillions

Another assist for Alonso...

Eds what do u think about Charlie Adam could be off to the muppets across the park? Is there any substance to it? {Ed052's Note - Possible.}

He seemed like one unhappy camper on sunday. If ever a player looked pi55ed off, it was Charlie Adam. He's on his way out for certain.

League predictions for next season.
1. Man united
2. Man city
3. Liverpool
4. Arsenal
5. Newcastle
6. Chelsea
7. Totenham

I'd say that will surprise a lot of people though.

1. Man City
2. Man United
3. Chelsea
4. Liverpool
5. Tottenham
6. Arsenal
7. Newcastle

I very much doubt we will finish above chelsea. No way will they finish outside the top4. Love ur optimism, but it simply is not gonna happen.
Indian Buzzer

I'm not so sure where this confidence is coming from. 2 new unproven signings, at least 3 players moved out that provided valuable service last season.

Man City
Man U
Chelsea
Liverpool
Arsenal
Spurs

I think we would be fighting for 4th with spurs and arsenal.

Red raj

Cos it's wrong. Van Persie has had 1 season injury free. At 29 they have acquired a expensive Owen. Expect another expensive mistake ala Berbatov!!

United 3rd behind Chelsea and City. Liverpool to fight it out with arsenal and spurs.

We can definitely finish above arsenal. They lost RVP and looks like song is headed to the nou camp. No wonder sahin ditched them, whilst our 2 best players last season signed new contracts. so much for cocky goners calling liverpool a 'small club.'
Indian Buzzer

I think Chelsea have spent a lot but I think they are buying a lot of individual players who will struggle to fit into a team. Who plays 10 spot for example: Oscar hazard mata de Byrne.

I'm going to make a crazy prediction.
1. Man City
2. Arsenal
3. Chelsea
4. Liverpool
5. Man Utd
6. Spurs

This season I predict the major decline of Man Utd!! Look at Man City - unreal players that have now bonded. Arsenal will be a bit of a surprise as they have made some great signings. Chelsea have also signed some good players and Torres is coming back into form. Spurs have lost Harry and I reckon Modric as well plus King, any injuries could seriously weaken them. United - A team in decline who made one signing. If Liverpool get 1 or 2 more signings they would have the strength to challenge for top4 plying under the Rodgers system. I knew a friend of a Blackburn player who told him that while playing under Kenny that he had no real clue about tatics and was unapproachable. Rodgers is very different. We are over the worst and on our way back.

I think the surprise will be than united will not do that well. They spent a lot of money on RVP but scoring goals was not their problem. Carrack and Schoals in midfield, is Giggs still playing for them? Poor defense. Very poor at left back. Rooney,s form is up and down, at the Euros he ran around the pitch like a fat tart. Dodgy goal keeper. I cannot see united finishing above city at present.

Can't see it to be honest, but utd and decline in the same sentence sounds sweet though.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

United, chelsea and arsenal will hurt.

The top four will be (in no particular order):
Liverpool
City
Newcastle
Spurs

16 Aug 2012 08:12:23
ed002 do u reckon sahin will sign before saturday most appreciated thanks lfc-ullah {Ed002's Note - There is every chance he will sign, as to when I don't know. Given the efforts being made it may well be very soon.}

Before the WBA game?

16 Aug 2012 07:49:17
Like most people on these pages I have been full of optimism for the new season , I am delighted with our new manager and with the signings so far .

Unfortunately , I have just seen the goal conceded last night by Pepe Reina against Puerto Rica , yet again he has chosen not to bother attempting a save , carrying on the theme from last season .

Does anyone know what is the matter with him ? {Ed002's Note - Aside from the falling out with Sparky?}

I'm very happy if we get sahin and tello but I think we overpaid for joe Allen.

You can judge Allen until the end of the season. Give the guy a chance he has bags of abilty.

Red raj

We didn't over pay for Allen we paid what his contract stated we would have to pay, dont forget that he had four years left so there was no room for bargaining.

Who's Sparky?

16 Aug 2012 07:47:14
Ed's you claim you're 'itk' first of all you l say Tello is not in the manager's immediate plans without fully explaining it, and now everyone's caught wind that he might be signing a new deal you change your tune. {Ed002's Note - Firstly no such claims are made, secondly he is not in the new manager's immediate plans as evidenced by him not being included in the first team squad, and nothing has changed regarding him signing a new contract.}

Boom goes the dynamite! You just got served: Oh Oh Two style! You will need to get a to-go plate and take that home with you because you ain't gonna finish that off in one sitting.

Man, spanked right in front of God and everyone, good times!

Hi eds and readers.
Just wondering how we're likely to line up this season with everyone fit. We all know BR favours 4-3-3 so will be same back 5 which is good cos thy know eachothers game inside out. But the 3 midfield players confuse me. Lucas and Gerrard are no brainers. So that's 1 position for £15m Joe Allen and Nuri Sahin who, no doubt will be expecting a lot of game time hence his decision to go on loan. This is a good headache for the boss and we all welcome rotation, just wondering who you think will be 1st choice.
Also regarding Jordan Henderson. I think he will blossom under BR, but likely to be a bit part player which is a shame considering Shelvey seems his preferred option in Pre Season.
Up front I'd be happy with Borini, Suarez, Dempsey, Downing and Carroll. Every big club needs at least 5 good forwards. At least 6 if playing our formation. I think Tello will be a good exciting player too.
Suarez is an obvious starter and I imagine Dempsey will be favoured too if signed so good competition for the last place. As for Carroll, I hope he's given a chance to adapt to our new style of play. He played well against Bayer Leverkusen and was unplayable towards the end of last season. If he finds himself constantly on the bench, then he has next season to leave. At least we'll have a plan B. we seen with Barca last season against Chelsea when they played fluid Rodgers-esque football, but sometimes can't pass your way through every defence. Carroll will be a decent striker if he's given the ball. He has a cracking left foot, so not only about placing the ball on his head.

I can see this being a good season for us if the signings of Sahin, Dempsey and Tello (or another winger) come off. We've lacked exciting width since McManaman.
I'd love to see us get in top 4 but it's still wok in progress, so hope fans' expectations aren't too high. I'd be content with top 6 as long as we're writhin contention for champions league by end of season.

Cheers for any input chaps

Spasmith

Sahin is better than lucus and gerrard.

Throw in Walcott too.

As long as we can see progress(and hopefully good football) I will be happy. If we can get a bit of consistancy, I can see us challenging for 4th, we just need to stay in touch initially!
John Wigan

Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique - Allen, Lucas, Sahin - Gerrard - Walcott, Suarez.
Jones/Butland, Kelly, Henderson, Shelvey, Sterling, Tello, Borini. {Ed052's Note - Thats a title winning team!!}

Not convinced Walcott will join. Can't see them selling him after selling RVP and possibly Song.

Hi to all the Ed's,

Just thought I would let you know what's going on in my life thanks to being on this site all the time.

1) the wife has left me for another man
2)She taken the kids too.
3)I've lost my job
4)I'm losing the house
5)I've not eaten for 4 days
6)I drink a bottle of Vodka a day

But the footie season starts in 2 days and I can't bloody wait, c'mon the red men I've got a good feeling about this season I feel really positive. YNWA

Danny

Could have been worse. She could have left you for two men.

Your my hero.

Hello,
man get a life its hard supporting a team wid an empty stomach. redh0t

You should consider yourself a very lucky man my friend....MY WIFE IS STAYING PUT!!
Bobby.

At least she took the kids - good girl

You should add red bull to the vodka it will go down better.

Red raj

You lucky man. Imagine if she'd left at the start of the summer. This season u have full remote control.

16 Aug 2012 07:34:10
Brendon Rodgers has built a Machine Team!
Rodgers wants to attack from the front, wich I love.
Suarez: is Suarez
Borini: strong gets stuck in an can score
Dempsey: if he signs, top quality player, an he's not afraid of getting stuck in.
Midfield
Lucas: is awesome he's grown into twice the player he was huge player for us now, an future captain.
Allan:great passing an possession ability. He gets stuck in an closes down real fast!
Gerard is Gerard

If these selected players stay fit all season with maby Sahin, Walcott or tello comming in to add quality strength in depth we will be top contenders.

Thoughts please.

YNWA

Yup would maake a very good squad suited to brendan s football

What is the likelihood of Everton buying adam? 5m? Apparently David moyles being a scot aswell is very interested? {Ed002's Note - Possible.}

Seem to remember Adams agent is Moys brother, and Everton were interested last year?

David Moyes' brother is Adam's agent too.

JRG

I think he'll do well at the Bitters. They play a slower game. Good luck to Charlie.

16 Aug 2012 07:14:21
Lets put this RVP to united into perspective, The guy is 29 the same age as dempsey, RVP will cost 24 m Dempsey 8m, RVP is mostly injury prone Dempsey is not. As for the difference in wages i would say RVP would be on about 4 times as much. As good a finisher RVP is i would say Dempsey works much harder for the team. All in all i would say Dempsey would be a very shrewd buy if we can add him to our squad. Ps How many times on here have we had utd fans saying dempsey is to old and a waste of money hmmmm hypocrites i would say.

Actually I think you'll find alot of Utd fans rate Dempsey

I think you have quite accurately proved that Dempsey is a better overall buy than RVP. Add to your argument that RVP had better players around him to assist. I'd be stoked if we got Big Clint

cozinoz

Aren't the ones on here saying Dempsey is too old etc, fellow Reds fans?

Your spot on; given the choice I would choose Dempsey as there's no guarantee that RVP will settle in quickly at manutd.
Dempsey for the money definitely less of a gamble.
kidmillions

Agree mate. Dempsey would be a fantastic addition to the squad. Most importantly he gets goals, and would bring out the best in stevie and luis.
Indian Buzzer

This is not criticism or being a bad red but if you had a choice of Van Persie or Dempsey before known interest from either of the 2 clubs then everyone would pick RVP, I think you are very delusional if you believe Dempsey will be a better buy than RVP

Mullet

I think before United signed RVP they'd rather have Dempsey and buy a midfielder with the rest of the money

16 Aug 2012 07:11:44
i think we all need to chill out. myself included as i have had my fair share of moaning about the owners,signings and wait and see who lfc bring in and who they let go before we kick off.

Does Sahin's loan deal has an option to buy him at the end of the season ?

Srinath
Reds Till Death {Ed002's Note - There is no deal just yet.}

16 Aug 2012 05:33:32
Telio will stay at barca till atleast January before being put on loan. We will also buy Dempsey for 3m+Adam but may not go through that way if Adam doesint agree with personal terms with fulham. Sahin will come to Liverpool on loan Even though he preferred to join arsenal but was persuaded to join Liverpool by xabi and Jose. If Adam decides not to be part of the deal with Dempsey he will be sold to the highest bidder and the two clubs with interest in him are everyone and west ham. Spearing will be loaned out. Liverpool have interest in Walcott and are probably going to bid around 10-12m for him.city will improve there offer for agger now estimated at 25m if he is sold we will most likely try and buy Vargas for 10m.

16 Aug 2012 03:28:35
has tello signed a new contract or is he expected to sign a new contract?

Kaizer {Ed002's Note - Yes he is expected to sign a new contract.}

16 Aug 2012 06:23:45
Hi eds , is it true that Ian Ayre is in Spain to finalize the deal for Sahin? Please reply . {Ed049's Note - Yes}

Is the tello deal off.

The metro reporting this morning that if Agger goes, Liverpool are looking at micheal Dawson from spurs? Thoughts eds?

WE all know the metro's full of lies.

16 Aug 2012 06:26:43
Man Utd with the purchase of Van Pursie will be tough to beat. Where do they get the money from to Spend 24 million? they are in debt up there armpits. If we get Sahin on loan, it will give us a huge boost for the season, my fear is, he could have a huge season with us and increase his value immensly. For us to be competetive, where do you think we need to strenghten Ed?

Relphy { Ed019's Note - I think that we need a striker and a winger or two}

16 Aug 2012 03:11:09
First of all Eds, great job keeping us all informed and patiently putting up with some stick,
Sahin deal is all but done, just minor details need to be ironed out with Real. Interestingly, from what my mate says it seems as though in both Spain and Turkey it's being touted as a loan+option to buy? This will signal the end for Charlie Adam and he will be sold to the highest bidder. Expect the deal to be confirmed in the next 36hours. Dempsey will also come in, one way or another. De Vries will come in too. Also, with RvP off to United, Walcott will hand in a transfer request and expect us to step in with a £12+ bid late in the window. Spearing, Shelvey, Pacheco, Wilson and Doni are the other players off.

YNWA Lads, really looking forward to the new season!

Soo close till you said shelvey! He will not be sold? Have you seen him play?

Redjay

16 Aug 2012 03:04:54
Herd that Liverpool are going in for a 10mill bid for sessegon!
Rogers sees him as some1 to operate in all 3 attacking positions!
He also brings some welcome pace!

Rodgers plays FIFA 12 too.....I was gonna bid on Sessegnon as well but I lost it at the last 15 seconds....you know his gamertag m8?

Would be a great addition to the squad if it happens

He would cost a lot more than 10 million.

You never got one agree that says it all.

16 Aug 2012 02:57:23
Looking back, I believe this will be a geat season for us. Not only that we have a great style of play under Rodgers but now, our 'deadwoods' are better in the sense that they still can contribute. Remeber our alternative to Aguero? Robbie Keane. Degen, EL ZHAR, Ngog, poulsen. Well, the futures looking bright for us as we have strenghth in depth and in quality. So please, especially those doubting Rodger's handling of the club affairs, Have faith in him.

Robbie keane scored consistently in the prem for years. I think it is a little harsh to put him in with that crowd.

I wouldn't call Robbie Keane deadwood in fairness. The lad scores goals everywhere he goes. He wasn't given a fair crack of the whip when he was with us. He got 6 months and was shipped out then.

16 Aug 2012 02:42:46
Everton are preparing a move for Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam, 26, who will be allowed to leave Anfield for £5m.

Please, please let this be true

Great deal if it goes through. paves the way for sahin's arrival, and everton will become weaker by playing a pub player week in week out.

Ed019 seen you're dm'ing on twitter...now I know how you answer all of these questions. 'walcott stalling over his contract' 'not sure if he wants to stay or go' classic it's like is tweeting, just banter mate. {Ed019's Note - Haha I was just trying to find out different people's views on Walcott haha.}

A great source ;-)

16 Aug 2012 02:20:10
Positive about this season, seems like everything clicking into place gerrard 100%, lucas back, suarez staying, borini a finisher and looking promising, as is sterling.
The way we press off the ball is great and we look so much more creative and fluid in possesion with rodger's style. A couple more signings and top 4 for us.
A lot of people writing us off just look at newcastle they fought for top 4 last season, we had a bad season in the league where we were also unlucky and have learnt from it. Come on you reds!! johndog

16 Aug 2012 02:14:16
You're are all right Maybe i was abit hasty! I do really like the site and i assure you that the information i receive is very credible I'd say 100% but things change.

You're not sexist I'm just moody (Painters are in)

Oh and i do work just for the poster who said get a job I'm a PA (That's were the info comes from)

I'd love to keep posting if I'm Welcome?

Thanks,

Moody Maisey :) xx {Ed019's Note - You're welcome}

Moody or Attention seeking?

Fair enough Maisey, you are more than welcome to post.

Ur input is valuable....keep em coming.

we all take a bit of a lighthearted abuse on this site, you couldnt read half the crap on here without the benefit of the odd chuckle.

....besides, after the racist accusations and a dodgy shirt sponsor the last tag LFC needs is that it's sexist.

Now I like you Maisie! And yes, you do talk more sense than most on here, and I like your info. Just wished you were a bit more chilled out. Keep the posts coming girl!

16 Aug 2012 01:58:50
Are you effing kidding me? Utd sign RvP for what we paid for Aqua, Downing, Henderson and Half what we paid for our town drunk.
Everyone at Liverpool should be fired. Burn it down, change the name and re-open with a new name that suggests we're not a bunch of chumps. {Ed019's Note - Mate he will cost over £70M to Man Utd over his contract and fee. This is an injury prone player}

I would rather have an injury prone player of the year than any 2 of the lads above that can't crack the first team on the 8th place team.

Plus the initial fee is 22.5 mil rising to 24mil. Thats more than Hendo downing and the like cost. Plus I don't know who taught you math but that is not half of 35mil, which is what we paid for Andy Carroll.
KiwiRed

Does this fool think we had a chance of signing RVP? - 23m and 200k a week, total of about 65m over 4 years. Does he not know that footballers nowadays have clauses in their contracts about other peoples wages, and that they can re-negotiate when others are paid significantly more.

John B

Or Utd could have even waited til Januray with 6 months left and got him much cheaper. Panic buying to appease the fans since other targets turned them down?

16 Aug 2012 01:57:38
Eds, will the sahin deal include an option to buy at the end, if so would you know in what range the figure could be ? {Ed019's Note - I don't think it would}

16 Aug 2012 01:25:21
daily mail currentlhy has a post up about Agger, i just wanted to tell people that the post is, a very poorly translated story from Denmark, the real story goes, that Daniel was asked about transfer rumours, and he replied that when you see someone like barca being linked whit you, then as a player you look twice because they are the best in the world, then he says he also aware that all this is just a media frenzy, wich basicly means he never said anything about playing for barca, and btw im having a hard time figuring out wich english news paper sites i can trust any hints would be apreciated.

None of them. Maybe the BBC, the LFC website and this website are probably your best bets. And if you're really gettin your nackers in a twist you can check out twitter too...

Yep none of them, they spout literally anything no matter how obscure untrue or even just pure fantasy, when it's on club website is normally good source but even that these days can be wrong!

The Guardian is pretty good and reasonably reliable as is the The Independent. Don't go near the mail, sun.....uggh had to type that last word sorry!

Iggypop

The Liverpool Echo is still Liverpool FC's preferred independent news outlet. They share more with them.

Also Chris Bascombe has good sources again from his time served as a journo for the Liverpool Echo.

Eds where do u think we will finish in the league.
{Ed019's Note - Top 4, pretty confident}

I think that we might even surprise ourselves.

Your confident Eds...i like it!
I think top 4 is something we should aim for obviously, and think we can acheive it but i would also be over the moon as i think its going to be very tight

Surely Wenger will hold Onto Walcott with Van Persie off to Man U? {Ed019's Note - This is Wenger we're talking about}

My educated opinion of the situation is that Theo wants to play in a central attacking position...preferring ST. I think with Podolski and Giroud coming in even though RVP is gone it limits his opportunity to play in those positions, especially with Wenger preferring him to play out wide. I think its in the best interest of Theo to leave and find greener pastures.

Xavi Alonso is on his way to Man City after Real have bid accepted for Modric.... {Ed019's Note - Nopety No}

Yes, xabi would do that to the club that he loves..... There's only one Xabi Alonso, and like Dagger he's red through and through......

Of course he'd go to City if they want him and RM are willing to sell. 200k a week and a pretty good chance of winning trophies. The love of any club means nothing when bank balances are involved.

Xabi alonso wont play for another premier league team,if he comes back it will be to liverpool

Everyone needs to get a grip about mirallas, a top draw player. At times it's like school on this site with posters wanting every player linked with other clubs & ed's having to bat away tantrums.

We have borini, it hardly caused a ripple on here, he has pace, movement & a natural goalscorer with a great future....I could go on. Then we r linked with sahin & tello both, both superb additions (if we get them) particularly the former with bags of guile.

But still we here about bloody mirallas & cavani & Owen & Torres etc etc. Put your keyboard down & pick your controllers up & play
FIFA. Leave the posting to lfc fans who have actually seen the players enough to form a decent opinion of them.

Sorry but at times so much carp get in the way of a decent read.

Hey Eds, about Tello, I know he is very good but I am sure it will only be loan and then lose him later next season, also many people say he is a bit of a ball hog on the wing....I just think we could do a lot better with Ramirez! is he off anywhere yet or could Rodgers still snatch ramirez. {Ed019's Note - Interest in Ramirez has waned}

15 Aug 2012 22:59:50
Hi Ed's
Walcott said a while back he would leave arsenal if they sold RVP. Now he's off to the Manks any chance he might push for Liverpool? {Ed019's Note - Maybe}

RVP has officially signed for man utd, wenger debating carroll as he believes he would flourish at the emirates, you heard it here first

Hello Eds,
Now That Van Perise Has Signed For The Mancs Do You Thin it is less liklely arsenal will sell Walcott to us or anyone becauase they wont want to lose all there best players.

Thank You

Liverpool need to start looking towards players like Pato, Muniain, Butland, etc, all are young and have amazing talent! Would shine in a Liverpool shirt and undoubtedly make a huge impact

Someone said that last year about, carrol and hendo

Pato and Muniain would command a combined fee of 80 million pounds. Money not well spent.
KiwiRed

Kiwired it will probably be about half that sum now or possibly 50m.

You trust Americans ?
Ha ! Just wait until we get left behind.
The naivety of the posters here doesn't bear thinking about.
We are still light years behind: Man U, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Tottenham and Newcastle will be hard to keep up with too.

Oh well, dream on.

Sapato

You basing the business skills of the americans on H&G is like the USA basing our soccer talent (to them) on emile heskey.
as well as this totenham have sacked their manager in place of one who choked at chelsea and have lost modric. they are spending too much money to sustain it for a long period of time.
newcastle have a list of players with terrible injury records and are a bad spell away from the supporters once again calling for mike ashley to leave.
chelsea have just signed players with lots of hype around them. they have too many ego's for a starting 11 and sooner or later a few of them will start huffing after they were dropped. as well abramovic (spelling) clearly didn't want to give RDM the job so he is a bad spell away from the sack.
i do concede that both manchester clubs will need catching but manchester city's spending will catch up with them aeventually and hopefully manchester united's dominance will end with alex fergusons tenure.
however lets focus on us and a few bad seasons doesn't diminish our status as a top club. we have a young squad and an ambitious manager with good owners who are trying to make us sustainable so cut the negative siht mate.

I guess we are light years behind, must explain us beating chelsea 3 time last season, knocking man city out of the carling cup knocking Manu out of the fa cup and beating arsenal at the emirates...silly me!

We're far stronger than u believe.

Kaizer

As an American who has been a Liverpool fan for 30 years, I find your post utterly classless... You have a right to your opinion, but judging someone based on their nationality only demonstrates how close-minded & juvenile you truly are...
YNWA USA

Agree with derryred and USA red Making assumptions based on nationality alone makes you look an ignorant roger hunt! CQ

He just pulled out the nationality card and I'm about to trump him with the clueless card!

Sincerely,
An American

Sounds like someone is taking a piss or is a secret manu fan posting on this site. Times are hard but real men stick with real teams sugar

Man Utd are owned by Americans too, so they can't all be bad.

Red Raw

The difference with our American owners and the Glazers is a proven track record of investing in sports teams. They also bought the club outright and did not place debt on the club. Only criticism that I think can be levelled at them is they didn't go with their instincts over KD and they put too much faith in Comolli to be able to manage him.

Man Utd are not owned by Americans, they are owned by debt. Too much debt. Their supporters are right to be wary.

how long would it take for paperwork to go through if we sign sahin/tello? if we signed them friday could they play saturday? {Ed019's Note - Depends how hard they work}

I heard the fax machine at Anfield was recently broken by Daniel Agger so he could stay.....so it could be January until they get a new one....so no new signing until then!

The players that have not been good enough in the last few seasons Rodgers is now getting shut of e.g Kuyt, Rodriguez imo, they where not good enough to push us for the title. BR is still going to get rid of deadwood with likes of Adam and Spearing but there is real good signs of us buying real quality players who can defo get us into top 4 and who knows maybe push us close to the title....Been watching the reds since the Heighway days so ive seen a team or two but i really think we can have a good go this season. Kirkby red

Don't claim to be a red fan and refer to liverpool players as deadwood. both have a purpose to offer the club. its arrogance like that that defines mancs. also dirk kuyt scored a hat-trick against united (for which we love him for) and has scored 50+ goals for us playing in the wing. where is your respect man.
derryred

We just got rid of a player that most people would have as first on the team sheet for the last 5 years - Dirk Kuyt, if only he was given his chance as an out and out striker, the position he was originally bought for.

eds, exactly how confident are u of dempsey being a liverpool player by september? {Ed019's Note - Reasonably}

I think Spurs will struggle without Modric. However I think Arsenal could cope without Van Persie.

If we can challenge for a top 4 spot this season Arsenal will be much more of a threat to us than Spurs, but I'd be ecstatic if we could finish above Spurs.

Just my opinion.

What does everyone else think?

Can I just add I'm gutted about Muamba having to retire and all the best to him.

Rob

Nice touch about Fabrice Muamba. Only 24.

You'll never walk alone Fabrice.

Tello loan deal still on even with his new contract at Barca. Only stumbling block is his doubts about going abroad. Atletico were only keen on a permanent deal.

Delighted to see united wasting money, 24m for an injury prone player and will prob get a 4 year deal worth up to 200k a week....happy days

Do u think he's worth it eds?

The big Nolo {Ed019's Note - No}

I concur, he plays when he wants!

One tackle in the first game- or even in training and he is out for 6 months. hope that happens he is a traitor.
derryred

Man u lost the league with the last goal of the season by city, rvp has put them in a great position , he has cost too much but look at his goal threat the money wont matter if he gives them the goals.

Ah Manchester the mecca city of money chasing footballers

Just wanted to say fair play Ed19, you've got things running rapidly tonight.

I love this site and have used both it and the original site almost since the start. It's becoming an institution and my wife bloody hates it.

The Liverpool site really has grown massively and that's meant the banter has been lost a bit to moaning in recent times. But a bit of effort from yourself, Ed02's webcam banter and both old and new posters can lift it back up.

LFC fans have suffered in recent times, but we're still a top club with exciting times ahead. We can be a giant again and that stems from support on all fronts, including minor things like a little positivity or light hearted banter.

Papa G {Ed019's Note - Thank You Papa G, the ed's all appreciate it}

Well said Papa G. I agree the Eds on our page are outstanding. A special to Ed02 with her level headed responses on our team even though she supports Chelski.We are less than 2 years removed from the cowboys and have come on leaps and bounds. Love the BR direction we heading in and if we as fans get behind the team and squad we will also be doing our part. Just one note for this page, it would be great if Ed01 popped in for a bit of banter when the season starts like the old days.

Chi-Paul

Hey my mrs hates this site aswell so it must be doing something right-ho ho! Ive been on it now for the best part of 3years now and think its fantastic! My boys love it to and are always asking 'what's on pool rumours dad'? The negativity seems to be on the wane also with a positive and humouros vibe returning(eds included) long may this renaissance continue!! Much love to you all and keep rocking in the free world.

I dont mean to be negative but everyone saying that the sahin deal is done but just look back a month or so ago as everyone was saying that gylfi sigurdssons move was certain, but look what happened their.
Please Post, thanks
Lfckid

Let's hope your reasoning isn't as bad as your spelling and grammar.

To be fair...I only believe it when I read it on Liverpool's website so I don't think your being negative...makes good sense.
