we should'v accepted sturridge as part of the torres deal a year ago. shame! {Ed016's Note - They wouldn't do the deal}

I should'v stayed with that posh bird I was with in school whose da was a millionaire, hindsight is overrated!

Samson Rasher

I should of went home after my 10th pint but ended up legless hindsight is depressing

well said ed16. it takes time to build a team {Ed016's Note - When I say LFC for life, I mean it. In no rush, not going anywhere, so what if it takes years to get to the very top again. At least this way we will stay their unlike Chelsea and City, rebuilding and spending hundreds of millions every time their players crap out}

I'm with you Ed16, as when we were linked with DIC, I thought to myself it's not the Liverpool way and would never seem right, esp after slagging Chelsea, City and to an extent Utd off about the money they've spent!

Keith

Yea 20 years rebuilding

Won't take that long to rebuild, idiot.

How's this for a stat Steven Fletcher averages a goal every 3.19 shots 5th best in Europe (had to score 10 goals to qualify) though yet again Kuyt was in the top 20 the only other name I've heard on here is Soldado who was 13th.

All you people screaming for buying an attacker sounds like Happy Harry on deadline day. Calm down, let Kenny do his job in his own premissis.

16 Jan 2012 23:14:03
what a run of games we've got coming up...
City, Utd, Wolves, Tottenham, Utd again, Everton and then Arsenal.
Just as well we seem to bring it for the big games eh?
makes for a very exciting few weeks.

x

Because the bigger teams won't park the bus the way stoke and blackburn do, and with us having a better passing game than most clubs we can take the big boys apart...

Red7.

I agree with Red7, smaller teams know we lack the ability to finish after breaking them down, so they limit the amount we can do it by sacrificing a great deal of possesion and chances. They may get a lucky counter attack but it is unlikey. The bigger teams know they want to come out the three points so maybe they don't play 5 at the back with two DMs. This allows us alot more chances and eventually after about 20-25 we should get a goal. Although the other big teams can still score goals so we shouldn't ignore our defence either.

But this has been the problem for ages now.I dont fear big teams.Side and even crowd more motivated v big teams,your right about teams parking bus.But our rivals have craft and quality to get around that.I do feel a fair bits about about attitude/mentality in these games.

16 Jan 2012 23:05:03
Thats what I'm saying J there's players out that are good enough.And can wait a season maybe two for champions league football there's are some good ones.Not these youngsters they'll pay five million for and they're british.We should just go to are reserves where there's a lot of talent and just as good.MATTYLFC

Crucial period is now Bolton, City, Wolves, Spurs, Man U x2, Everton then Arsenal.
Our league and cup season is about to be decided in these 8 games. We just need to attacking signings to boost our push for glory in Feb.
ALB YNWA. {Ed016's Note - Kenny has always pushed harder after the winter, its about to step up}

Evening eds and fellow reds .just a quick thought and think about this before answering .inter offer tevez 20.7 million euros city want 25million pound .kenny should sign him for 25million on 6 month contract .if carlos still wants to go abroad then sell him at the end of the season ,but with luis and stevie playing along side i thing tevez would bag us 15 goals which would push for forth place.and if he plays well we sell for 30+million if not sell him for the 25million to carithians .they offered 30 last window win win situtation.thought please cheer psv {Ed016's Note - If you put him on a 6th month contract he would be worthless in the summer, he could walk to any club he wanted, so muted your entire idea in the first sentance, really this isn't fifa, I bought torres and sticked him in the reserves for the rest of his career, mucho satisfying}

Plus, Tevez is horrible person with no class and has no place at our proud club.

Tevez plays well for 2 years at any club he signs for then either him or his agent gets the "I want a new signin on fee bug" and all the trouble starts.They will eventually be cured of this as there's only so many times you can catch it.Its not his fault its an illness

Let's sign Balotelli while we're at it, he seems a lovely lad.

Pavlychenko from spurs 17mil
Arshavin from arsenal 13mil
30mil

This post, priceless.
Rigsby. {Ed016's Note - He can do math though, thats a good start}

I would kill myself!!!!

I see what your onto here, pay 30 mil for both, Then regain that in champions league revenue next season after they've guided us to the top four?

Stu.

Where are you getting these estimates from?..Pavlychenko for 17m, who on earth would pay that for a reserve?!

I think his russian

I'm an aussie but i'm not saying "Let's sign Shaun Cansdell-Sheriff from Shrewsbury"

What about 20m for heskey. He has already been here, so wouldn't need much time to settle in, and he is one class of a striker. lolz. :)

Ridiculous valuations, not worth 50% of those prices

16 Jan 2012 22:13:31
Tell ya what Carroll looks brilliant on youtube, when he gets his confidence back you will all see why we payed so much for him.. {Ed016's Note - Michael owen looks like maradonna on youtube}

16 Jan 2012 22:07:19
We should buy Jordan Rhodes, how many would Carroll have scored for Huddersfield if he was there instead of Rhodes? And how many would Rhodes have scored for Liverpool if he was here instead of Carroll.
Only thing is? Don't think Huddersfield would be too keen to swap.
kidmillions {Ed016's Note - Rhodes is years away from a prem regular starter}

So is Carroll

16 Jan 2012 21:56:08
If Suarez has so much influence in the Uruguay national team - like with Davy Texiera and Coates - surely he could encourage others like Cavani.

Or better yet, we cold sign the whole Uruguay squad and have something like Barca, but with Uruguayians.

Yes but I highly doubt that suarez could lower the prices for us. He would have to be a hell of a negotiator.

Danny

The price difference between the likes of Coates and the likes of Cavani are probably the real issue here, not their listening to Luis.

Red7.

I'd rather play like Liverpool than Barca.

16 Jan 2012 21:28:42
I am guessing, and with some knowledge from sources, the strikers we will be getting will be David Texeira and Jermain Defoe.

Cheers

KP

16 Jan 2012 21:48:16
Eds, Liverpool have to play arsenal and chelsea at home so 4thspotin my eyes could be decided in these games.. My hope is 1class striker preferably soldado and 4th would be cemented, along with carling cup success and a fa cup run is definitely a forward step for kk and the lads.

4th spot will be decided by ourselves, on if, we can beat weaker teams, we are quiet able to beat teams above us!
TheJazz

Get real you are playing for 5th,6th and 7th you wont get anything v spurs man u and newcastle will thump you at their place. {Ed016's Note - old trafford doesn't scare us, spurs probably will out play us again, lol newcastle, jog on}

Yeah, Spurs outplayed 9 men very well. At Anfield? We all know the influence our supporters there have and we can beat anyone (aslong as we can f**cking score!)

16 Jan 2012 21:45:59
Why do foreign signings seem to get everyone so excited? Is it FM fever? I know British players are overpriced but in the last few seasons our fans have been desperate for us to sign the likes of Quaresma, Zhirkov, Ben Arfa, Arshavin, Lukaku....

None have set the league on fire.

British, Foreign, whatever the passport says, what we need is PACE. We must be up there with the slowest teams in the league.

The Jackal

Lukaku just hasn't been played

I think it's about making the right signing for the team really. Someone who works hard, gives his all and has goals in him.

Realistic red

Only pace? like Mark Gonzalez? {Ed016's Note - lol that guy.}

Maybe we should sign Usain Bolt and just forget about turning him into a footballer.
Just get him out there and watch him race past the ball every time. Only PACE my ass.

Bruce Grobbelaar has said that Liverpool are on the verge of signing another south American striker and the move is basically done

Nr 1 target is Podolski.

Will be kept indoors until it is a done deal.

wait and see.

Source: - Close friend of Solbaken, the manager of Køln.

Hope so this kid is the real mccoy

Was Padolski kid-knapped by Damien Comolli or something? Locking him indoors seems a bit extreme

Rocky {Ed016's Note - Under house arrest.}

No it was a genuine kidnapping people, apparently the coaching staff has him tied up watching countless videos on the importance of scoring goals at club level.

3.Who, out of all the youths are you most excited about also how is alex o hanlon(spelling) progressing
4.How many players do you think will sign this window

Cheers Ed/Eds
Keep Up The Good Work

G-Man {Ed016's Note - 1) Yes, 2) Redevelopment, 3) Sterling 4) 2 more likely 1 though)

How do know we are redeveloping anfield, no official word has been said as of yet

Eds how does ed016 know we are redeveloping ???? {Ed016's Note - there is a post, you can search "ed016" will be there}

Ed016 are you Macca? {Ed016's Note - It says Ed016 when I post, but I am mainly just computer}

16 Jan 2012 20:55:31
Ed...isn't it disappointing that despite our obvious difficulties in scoring goals the club hasn't bought anyone of quality on the right wing and as a striker. Under Rafa we were always a couple of quality players short and it seems we're still facing the same problem. I appreciate that quality players cost millions but haven't we spent millions on Carroll and Downing? Ed, would you agree we need at least a couple of quality players to make Liverpool competitive?

We seem to be perfectly happy paying ridiculous sums for the home grown players with great 'potential' and see unwilling to pay any thing the big money to get some real qaulity in the side who are actully worth their price tag. Pretty confused at the moment.

RDR {Ed016's Note - It's alright mate, doesn't take much}

16 Jan 2012 21:19:16
Why are people talkn about players like dyer and Sinclair .Thats not good enough understanding it's January and we need a striker ASAP is a given.But we're Liverpool FC it's world class players we need not youngsters not prove'n.So if there's nothing out there lets wait til the summer.MATTYLFC

Stepping stones mate takes time. World class players want to comps like champs. Were not there yet. Just trust kk direction he knows. J canada

This "we are Liverpool" doesn't mix any more I'm sorry to say were not the Liverpool we all love we are a top 6-8 side and in transession and will have to do with overpriced English talent because the talent we need won't come until were in the champs league,to sum it up IMO were in a no win situation as big players won't come to get us in the top 4 and as we are we will never get in the top 4 cheers pk

Can't say the team has achieved anything of note, until we compete in the Champs League. Until then we are just another team fighting for 4th place, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle.
Its big fish in small pond syndrome. {Ed016's Note - We are a completely new team pretty much in the first year of a massive overhaul! ungrateful fans}

Top players do want to come. It's more that (at the moment) we don't want to pay the 150k-200k a week wages that they want. See Mata, Aguero, etc.
{Ed016's Note - the first two things you say contradict each other}

Sinclair is playing pretty well at the moment...

Hiya guys.

Just been flicking through the channels and came across Liverpool TV. Thought i'd leave it on because it said Liverpool v Manchester United reserves ad would have been worth a watch, anyway it wasn't. It was something to do with Kenny Dalglish and why he is considered a legend at Liverpool. As a rival fan i never really appreciated the full effect of Hillsborough and the full part in the 'aftermath' of it that Dalglish played. It was only 5 minutes long, but even that was enough time to realize just what he did and how heartbreaking it all was for everyone connected to the club. Anyway i don't know why i felt the need to come on here and comment, don't even know what i want to say really. I know i've come on here in the past and had a bit of banter, and i will again no doubt next time i feel compelled to wind you up and have a chat about football. But for now i just wanted to say that some things are far more important than football, and that the way your club dealt with the disaster is to be commended by everyone involved in football. Hope you do get full justice, and i agree with you, Dalglish is a legend.

OsgoodIsKing

His wife was ill also at that time, im sure.
JayB

Wish more football fans were like you. One of the most upsetting things in football is when people chant about disasters such as Hillsborough or Munich. As you say, some things are more important than football rivalry

Red Greco {Ed016's Note - Agreed, death and loss in no laughing matter, it is disgusting to use these horrific times as insults. Remember guys do not buy the s*n!}

Class. Great to see an opposition fan who understands instead of the usual flock of sheep getting spoon-fed their "facts" by Murdoch et al.

Martin

Thank you.

Most people get excited around the transfer window - this is the time I dread the most - since we last won th league we have spent the best part of half a BILLION pounds on transfer fees and only Alonso/Torres/Suarez/Reina have been world class. Our academy has only produced 4 world class players (Macca/Fowler/Owen/Gerrard) these guys were brought into the first team as 17 yr olds - since then only Kelly who will be 22 yrs old this year who has played 20 odd games and still referred to as teenager.

To be honest we have been woeful in the transfer Market an too conservative and risk averse when it comes to the youth players. If a player is not getting regular 1st team football from 17-22 you can forget any ideas of them coming good in the future as you have taken his most important years away an killed his confidence.

Can't think of many players who made their Mark on world football at the age of 22-25 ? The real world beaters are already on the world stage by their 21st birthday

Didier Drogba never played at a professional level until he was 25/6, I believe.

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

Great thought provoking post. Its sad but true. The problem is the media, also referring to players as "the new .....!", inflated hype.

That post about Drogba seems to be nonsense.

I just regurgitated what my cousin told me ages ago.

Should have researched that before posting.

Leon Best had a good game for Newcastle the other day maybe we could put in a cheeky 35mill in for him and see what happens!

Redkite

Pardew will ask for £50 mil though....

16 Jan 2012 20:49:13
Can we go and sign a right winger who can cross a decent ball in the box and also score goals. We should not have problems scoring really we have Bellamy Suarez Carroll and we should have kuyt as a striker he isn't a winger he's a centre forward it was rafas stupid idea to put him as a winger hes just not good enough out der he's an old fashioned centre forward in my eyes and he should be our goal hanger! Go sign a quality right winger and we will be fine. Who would you sign if u could one right winger realistic target?

Yep. Crossing the ball in for CBs and the goalies of the oppositions to eat up all day is a perfect guarantee for many goals. Fans overrate these crosses hugely.

The back 5 of most EPL teams are very adept at dealing with crosses no matter how good they are. What we need to do is get players who are adept at mixing our attacking play up relentlessly between wide plays and playing through the middle.

If liverpool dont finish in the top 4 this season do you think their will be another massive overhaul mabye including kk?

How about changing this to something positive and say what if we finish forth? What If we win the carling cup? What if we beat united in the next round of the fa cup and go on a nice little run? there's so much negativity on here, we should all be behind the team and definitely have more respect for Kenny Daliglish and what he's done for the club.

If "Negativity" offends you, then think of it as conservatism!. But keep it real. {Ed016's Note - where did conservatism get the world economy?}

Ed016 - It was not fiscal conservatism that destroyed the global economy. Quite the opposite in fact.

BJH YNWA. {Ed016's Note - look at the influencing social paradigm that the U.S government at the time followed, I know it was the deregulation of banks, ridiculous loaning and insane greed}

The factors you mention do not (either alone or together) represent or constitute fiscal conservatism. Quite the opposite - these forces contributed to the downfall of economic conservatism.

Your phrase 'Look at the influencing social paradigm that the US government at the time followed' doesn't make any sense either.

First - avoid using phrases like paradigm in future. It affects your legitimacy. Ten thousand economists and political analysts all rolled their eyes at once (if that many are on this site) when they saw the word.

The system is too varied to use phrases like paradigm - the word has become akin to saying 'I don't really know the components so i'll say paradigm'. It has become almost taboo in this respect. It means nothing.

Lets talk about the 'Andy Carroll paradigm' shall we? What about the 'Swansea play good football' paradigm?

The word has become defunct. As in de-functionary, as in - it doesn't mean anything anymore.

I don't make the rules, but using 'paradigm' is not wise. In academic/intellectual circles, you will be viewed as an 'outsider' immediately. You will have shown your colours without intending to (that you are not educated in politics/economics or looked at the issues in detail). It is almost equivalent to thinking that Wikipedia can be used as a viable 'source'. You would be laughed out of the room. This is harsh, but true.

There will be (as a result of using this term 'paradigm') scepticism towards any of your following views.

Is this crazy - maybe. Mad - perhaps. Arrogant, elitist and prickish - yes! I agree!

Does it work - I guess so.... Such marginalising terminology is impressive in a way (gotta admit it).

On this occasion certainly, it has served it's purpose/proved correct the assumption that as you use the word paradigm in your discussion - your view of what constitutes conservatism may be off or ill-informed.

Secondly - The Republican party may described elements of their party as 'conservative', they may also have said they were fiscal conservatives when electioneering. But oddly..... they may have lied.

Hard to believe it, but there you go. lol.

They didn't follow an influencing social 'anything' either.

The best example of them following any conventional ideology that I can think of in this respect, would be a recognition that they complied with the liberal internationalist ideology (to an extent).

On a rhetorical level that much is true - but that is not a 'social' anything, certainly not an 'influencing social paradigm', as in itself/themselves - internationalism/s are always subject to change and revision. Forms of liberalism in a social context are transitory - there is no one singularly dominant ideology.

Thirdly - Internationalist commitments were largely on a rhetorical level only.

Republicans may have used the language of internationalism to legitimise foreign policy interventions in this way - that much is true. (I know you didn't say that - I'm making an argument for you here!)

But this is just rhetoric - would anyone really call the Afghan election of 2004 'democratic?' for example.

An election with one candidate? Of course not. No rational person would, obviously. All that follows this pretence in terms of socio-political and economic intervention is clearly questionable - both in terms of legitimacy and/or authority.

They (the US govt) were drivers of such change. Not followers.

As is the Republican way - this foreign policy was backed by spurious, blank cheque spending that surely made Bill Clinton cry - as all his sound economic planning (which had the US budget running at a surplus in regard to public debt by the end of his second term, amongst other successes! hard to believe now isn't it!) was destroyed by the same cowboys who benefited personally and politically from the ensuing Federal windfall - such as well connected contractors and industry leaders, well placed investors and political contributors.

Last but not least - Presidential appointees to Federal Reserve and Treasury positions made by Republicans during this era, not only complimented and assisted this process, but with presidential backing (with the help of one of Bush II's last political actions) they conspired to apply political pressure in order to 'hammer' (get it - Henry 'Hank' Paulson! eh!) the nails in the coffin of conservatism, seemingly once and for all.

I just found it troubling that your statement suggests you think the opposite happened - and that conservatism got us here.

To surmise. In both economic terms - and in laymans terms.

They shat on the principles of economic conservatism.

Just saying.

BJH YNWA.

ps - Sorry ed, this is kinda my area, and I don't blame you for being misinformed on the nuts and bolts. I need to know this stuff in my line of work (it is dull to many people but I like it. Know your enemy and that sort of thing) - but fiscal conservatism is the opposite of what happened.

Just remember. It is one think to say you are fiscal conservative - it is quite another to enact fiscally conservative legislation.

Luckily for the Republican party at the time, the majority of Americans did not recognise the difference, hence voting for the party that was systematically impoverishing much of the nation whilst a minority benefitted.

Emphasis on avoiding deficits in the most important aspect/indicator when identifying genuine fiscal conservatism.

I'm writing a phD proposal on the structure of the global economic system atm btw. I should be doing it right now! This probably explains why I had stuck my nose in. NO! NO! I thought!

(January better end soon! I've got work to do, gotta get off this site!)

pps - keep up the good work. Is there a political economy site yet! I'm sure that the people are demanding it!

Liverpool heavily linked to signing Torres!
César David Texeira Torres!
Admittedly I know nothing about this guy, is he any good Eds?

16 Jan 2012 20:43:10
Personally I would go and sign Jordan Rhodes 25 goals so far doesn't seem to dwell on ball just gets it in the net that's what we need not some fanny who can't finish!! Come on kenny sign Rhodes

All rhodes lead to no where

What league is rhode playin in? League 2? There's a massive gulf in class between the 2 leagues, he probably wouldnt even get the same amount of time on the ball in prem league, this is the problem with most fans, they only want the people who are performin well atm, whatever league they are in, jus because they play a few good games or score a lot of goals in another league, doesnt mean they should be signed or its guna happen in the Prem

Carb {Ed016's Note - I call it Chelseacityitus, its a horrible disease, ruins lives}

Remember kevin keegan and where he came from.

John aldridge

Just because he is playing in a lower league does not mean that her cannot make the step up instantly. If the lad has the confident in his own ability and a very strong character, he can do it easily.

Swansea and Norwich aren't doing badly with their former lower league players in the epl, are they?

Official:Cahill to Chelsea for £7m.very good business.Let's buy Shawcros for £20m!
Marius

Cahill to chelsea is alright business, i wouldn't say it was a very good piece of business, bolton had no price to sell him or it was free in the summer, they wanted 20 million for him in the summer, is he the future john terry...? let's hope so because he is the biggest person to put on a football shirt !! Haha

Did we not get Coates, a very good, exciting young prospect 6 months ago for less?

I think it was a joke.

BJH YNWA.

And i don't care what anybody says, i really do rate Danny Wilson, it's very early days, but if he can improve his timing over the next season or 2, he could be anything.

I'm absolutely staggered by some posters on this site. Everyday they whine on about how we MUST buy a goalscorer and then all I read is
"I hope we aren't in for Bent" and today
"I hope we aren't in for Defoe"
Please feel free to suggest which goalscorers we should be buying instead of these two proven premiership finishers.

Some of the suggestions for LFC to buy are laughable, if Defoe was so good why is he not playing more games for Spurs, he is so inconsistent, do we really need another player like this, we need to buy players that will improve the team, and I am sure Kenny knows what we need better than most. Not a rumour nor am I associated with a friend of a friend etc. or a plumber... I think Liverpool should look at ciaran Clarke from Villa. Look at the last 6 results since was restored to the 1st team. Also mark noble from west ham would be a good edition in my opinion

hey lfc fans

just watching the wigan game......

and the pundits talk about the weekends game...

OMG...the stats for lfc are ABYSMAL...

2nd in the league on chances created....but BOTTOM of the league for conversion

and they talked about the game against stoke.....downing kuyt and henderson front 3.......none of them are scoring since august.......5 defenders on and kuyt never stayign upfront and floating around the wing areas.

so all those people who moan cos other lfc fans are not happy..........try looking at that..and you tell me why are these professional coaches so blind to see that we have a major attacking problem..and need new players, cos the tactics were wrong and who they played in the positions

How are the tactics wrong when were creating all those chances?

I think he means for that particular match.

If tactics don't bring the desired results, then they are pretty darn useless. Results are the measure. Don't tie it up in a pretty bow and call it something else, Results are the measure of success!!.

Everyones linking us with all these strikers and wingers but theres no mention of a creative influence who plays behind the strikers the raul meirelles role which was never filled when he left?

ACHILLES.

There is mention coutinho,oezil etc... in my opinion coutinho would be a brilliant signing

The Raul Meireles Role has been filled. By Suarez and Gerrard. Unfortuantely, the Torres role still has not. Suarez is more creative than he is clinical, Kuyt is too old, Bellamy isn't fit enough to play every game and Carroll only has potential right now. Hence why we are looking at strikers.
Although Macca has touted we may be in for Coutinho. You never know!

YNWA! (Adam)

So Raul Meireles was better than Suarez and Gerrard put together? Lol, c'mon man! He had a decent shot on him and scored a few goals, thats about it. More like Meireles x 4 = Gerrard alone.

AG {Ed016's Note - Meireles was just in the rite place at the rite time, still takes some skill to do that, he should never have left porto}

Eds, can you offer any insight as to why Carroll isn't playing well? Is it a confidence or fitness issue or lack of quality service?
I really hope he does a Lucas and becomes a top player in the next few years! {Ed019's Note - Lack of form, service, confidence...and this isn't helped by people slating him all the time. I hope so too..}

I have to agree. I have never known pool fans be this poor. I've supported pool for 30 plus yrs and for me this bad with exception to the hicks owners. We are building again. It will take time city took 250 mil and three yrs. Be patient it will happen. Lets get off theplayers backs, stop the player bashing carroll etc. These players need to know were behind them. Us fans are known for great support. Lose the negative rubbish and support your team. Rome wasn't built in a day be patient. I see the title coming in two yrs. J canada

Ok all hope lads a hit.But at this moment in time,you cannot rate him.His performanses inc overall contribution is carp

eds or Macca when is this young Inter prospect going to arrive at the club i know that it would've taken a few days to get an agreement with regards to contract negotiations etc. and will this south american, dutch league striker arrive this january or in the summer ?
cheers {Ed019's Note - let me get my crystal ball...}

And come to think about it, this Fernando fella hasn't resigned, and none of the other 100s of rumours have come true. What is wrong? We haven't signed 20 players yet! ;)

16 Jan 2012 19:31:42
Hi, just wondering out of all the strikers that we have been linked with this window, which are available and likely to beable to join in January? Because we're in desperate need of someone who can jump straight in and get the job done.

i believe the player macca was on about was indeed coutinho if bruce groblaars comments be true as i don't see us signing 2 cf's (coutinho can be used on the wing) cheers eds good site

who would u say be a better singing texeira or sow

Texeira

Teixeira looks like a great youngster. Don't know, how much, he can develop, as have seen him only a very few times. But must say he looks like a great talent. YNWA

16 Jan 2012 19:22:11
Macca give us your view on Sow and the young sout american David from Hollan.

Any truth behind all this?

And what are your thoughts of Carroll beside that he is for the future. what is he doing wrong and different from his time in Newcastle?

He's not a god make your own opinion

Carroll needs time. He just needs to learn a bit more. Remember this is only his second season in the prem. I think some people forget this point. The lad will come good. We all have to learn when we start new jobs and this is no different. New styles to adapt to etc. Plus our players are adapting to him. Please be patient we will start firing soon. J canada

if torres had stayed . lucas and gerrard not been injured all season . our front two would of been suarez , torres , behind them lucas , gerrard , behind them agger.
, skrtel , behind them reina . there is no better spine in the prem than that and that includes 500 million man city . hender son , adam would of been great squad members . were ever so close PLEASE GET BEHIND KK . he will get us there just give HIM SPACE .

I don't understand why you all think King Kenny is this amazing manager-yes he is a legend as a player but what has he achieved as a manager?

Marky Mark

Err... the premier league?

John 1892

I thought he had managed 2 teams to the Premiership title,how many managers have done that?

Derek

3 league titles and two fa cups with liverpool, took blackburn from 2nd division and won the premiership with them. quite a decent record to be honest

Hes won the premier league before . hes had one year back competing against a man whose been in the job for 25 years

I can't believe that last text. Er, the double in first season as manager etc etc assembled the most entertaining Liverpool team probably ever. Won the Prem with Blackburn. Would have won at least another Big Ears if we hadn't been banned. Back to your homework lad.
ND

I think you need too do a bit of research mate

So let me get this right =he won the league with Blackburn 17 years ago and with Liverpool 20 odd years ago and that makes him a great manager?You lot are either totally deluded or desperate.

Marky Mark

Will win the Premier League with
Liverpool again in 2-3 years time.
Legend player, Legend Manager
for Legend club.

Marky Mark, you speak as if he's been in management full time since leaving Blackburn, but he hadn't managed that long at newcastle or Celtic

In 1.5 years at Newcastle they finished second and got to an FA cup final and his short spell managing celtic they won the league cup, then out of management for 10 years.

We know what he did for Liverpool, but at Blackburn signing Shearer and Sutton led them to the league, he bought in Did Hamman to Newcastle, whose performances got Liverpool to pick him up.

I don't get where you are coming from, I can't think of anyone who would be better than who we have.

Problem is lack of patience, in the age of the internet we pounce on every decision instantly as the technology is available, therefore we knee jerk before contemplating anything - as we can. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture, look where the previous owners had almost run us into the ground, look at problems we had for years with sub standard players and negative tactics. Be glad football is coming back, and don't expect it overnight or in one season. If you are building a stable foundation for the future of the club then this takes time. Man City took 3 years and £400 million to be challenging but do they even have solid foundations, I'd say they have mercenary players who will leave at any opportunity.

He is a great manager, was an amazing player and is a great man. He has earnt respect from fans, and he has earnt our patience.

If you're one of the 'must have it now generation' then go support teams who change their manager as often as their kits. The rest of us -we're with Liverpool for life.

I have no idea why clubs sign player who go off to the African Cup thing... it's like having a player banned for 8 games ;-)

Just happened to have the telly on, and that Paul McKenna (the hypnotist) is on.
Has anyone been hypnotised ?
Does it work ?
If it does, can we get McKenna and ask him to tell Andy Carroll that he's really Pele.
It might be worth a punt lads..?

For comedic purposes, lol, we've all seen those Hitler videos on youtube, this one is his reaction to Andy Carroll being our lone striker.
Carb

Wat film is that clip from?

Oh no! I see Redturk is airing his thoughts on Youtube now aswell...
TheRedEye

Watch the link at the end of andy against wolves he actually looks a decent striker recently hes getting further and further away from form though...

Downfall

The original clip is from Der Untergang

, this is soo true but yet so funny!! hit the nail right on the head with this 1, its a shame some fans can't see it, only becos the guy is english otherwise if his name was voronin or ngog they would of all slated him.RedTurk

I stood by N'Gog, Voronin and Babel to the bitter end. I will stand by Andy too.

I even stood by Heskey.

Which reminds me of a story.

I admit that he (Heskey) really tried my patience towards the end of his stay.

I lost it once during a Utd match - when Heskey missed four (or more) sitters and was generally awful....

I was swearing and shouting, ranting and raving, gesticulating wildly...... people were moving slowly away from my vicinity.

I didn't even notice that there were kids present in the pub at the time (the disappointed looks from the parents still haunt me).

I was told to calm down or leave.

I was in the pub on my own too. I wasn't acting up to anyone or anything! It was just me - alone! He nearly gave me a tumour trying to shut up for the rest of the game.

A sad day.

This made me think of the story of the straw that broke the camels back -

Remember Benitez trying to bring Heskey back?

I think that was when my loyalty to Rafa just snapped. We all have our limits I guess.... even the most loyal amongst us.

Blind obedience is a necessary pre-condition for a thriving Fascist dictatorship. This applies to all walks of life.

I feel that we're okay at LFC though, it'll never happen at Liverpool, we'll never be destroyed..... but then we nearly were.

Even the most loyal fans turned on the club and hounded Hodgson out. The 'cowboys' weren't far behind him either.

Good work I say! Does anyone want them back - thought not!

Sometimes you've just gotta stick up two fingers at rules and theories of obedience and loyalty - especially when you feel you have been mistreated, or that the future of something you love is being destroyed.

For me - I've had a few 'final straw' moments over the years, such as:

Rafa trying to get Heskey back (you younger ones might not understand).

Hodgson's incompetence, excuses and misguided pandering to 'the Kop' and 'Carra and Stevie'. He also kept playing Kuyt on the right - and praising him when he was crap, just like Rafa.... okay, thats a lot of straws.

Hicks and Gillet running the club into the ground to the point that liquidation was a serious possibility! That got me too. I snapped.

Get the f*ck out!! lol.

I don't think Andy, Kenny or the current owners have done anything much on par with these to warrant such abuse just yet.

As for Kenny, he has the advantage of being Kenny, he has earned the good will he is afforded - he went beyond the call of duty for LFC in the past, at the expense of his health no less. I can forgive a few dud signings - ALL managers make dud signings at some point.

Hypothetically though, if Kenny offered Carra a bumper contract extension to 2017 - then paid £20m for Defoe and gave him 90k a week and a 5 year deal.

I would be here baying for blood.

"He'll destroy us" - I would be screaming from the rooftops!!!

lol. Football eh! Great stuff. Great.

BJH YNWA. (Its a funny old game....)

I forgot. Stick by Big Andy. I mean't to say that. He can come good yet!!!

If he doesn't, we will move on. But back the big man.

If we love him, he will love us back perhaps. Then (maybe, just maybe) he will run through brick walls for us - he's clearly trying harder the last few games. Lets hope he keeps improving.

Lucas got better little by little - It didn't happen overnight.

Too slow, can't pass, not fit enough, not stong enough, not good enough going forward, poor movement, not a Liverpool player.

Does any of that sound familiar? It could be what they said about Lucas, or what they say now about Andy.

Yet, when Lucas got injured, the transformation was such that people were massed to this site wishing him well and mourning a major blow to our hopes for the top 4.

If Lucas can do it. So can Andy.

I know btw, before you start that one major difference is the price tag.

But if he is as good as Lucas by his age, (as a 'striking equivalent' obviously - Lucas is just turned 25 I think?) - we would have a World class striker on our hands.

He can repay a big chunk of that cash yet.

Give the boy a chance. Lots of players peak in their 20's. Players like Owen and Fowler are the exception, not the norm - and you can make a good case that they were burnt out by their mid-late 20's.

Thierry Henry took time to improve, even Bergkamp did. Fat Frank, Carra, Gerrard, Terry, Drogba, Berbatov (and before you call him 'Berbaflop' - is it so easy to score against 'smaller teams'? - he kicked our ass too. He was also the leagues top scorer, without even trying apparently. lol) ..... I could go on, but you get the point.

United fans gave C. Ronaldo all kinds of grief (but they are idiots after all) - he's not bad now either.

Was it Phil Thompson who saw Ronaldo and said 'he's not a Liverpool player' - now he says the same about Andy.

Don't listen to such lazy garbage.

Come on Big man. I want 15 goals league goals this season!! I still believe in you!

BJH YNWA (Eye of the tiger Rock, eye of the tiger......)

ps - For the record I said that C. Ronaldo would be the greatest winger in the world after watching him just once. It was so obvious really. I continued with this stance whilst my Utd supporting friends gave him all sorts of abuse for the next few years. Until he hit form that is. Fickle bunch Utd fans (sounds like some fans here. lol.).

The moral of this story is not 'trust my opinion'. But rather, that when it comes to opinions - I may be wrong in my judgements.

But in my defence.

It wasn't really my fault that I hadn't seen Messi by then........... was it.

hehe.

(and spare the 'false nine' and 'inside forward' mumbo-jumbo, you know what I mean! smartarses. lol.)

not a rumour, but we all take the eds for granted. they work so hard all of the time and during the transfer windows they are snowed under. so i just think we should say a very big thank you all round to you all. Have people not been watching the champions league this season, Lille have not progressed to the last 16, they finished 4th in their group so aren't in the europa league either, so can we stop saying that's why Lille won't want to sell

A question for the Eds...
With Tevez linked with a move to Inter Milan and Ranieri stating he's happy with the squad numbers he has got me thinking. If Inter do sign Tevez they may let Diego Milito or Diego Forlan leave in this window, either one could be a great addition to our squad and both proven goalscorers. In your opinion would you say this could be possible?

Rocky {Ed019's Note - Too old, sorry}

16 Jan 2012 18:39:39
Moussa Sow has today said that it would be 'a dream to play in front of the Kop…' With Liverpool stuttering in front of goal, they should snap him up…

Sow is certainly worth going that extra mile for. Possessing a predatory killer-instinct in and around goal he is also capable of pulling off the exceptional; acrobatic breath-stealers, fancy flicks and sublime link-up play are all within his repertoire. He has a lightning change of speed that allows him to bolt past opponents, leaving them groping at thin air like a blind man jilted on the dancefloor. Best of all, through being schooled at Clairefontaine and being just another component of Lille's multifaceted swarm of attack he is remarkably unselfish for someone so intent on smashing scoring records.
His phenomenal return in front of goal wasn't always so. At Rennes he experienced mixed fortunes before – seemingly from nowhere – exploding in Northern France. A large part of the credit for this must go to Lille's head coach Rudi Garcia. It was he who made a silk purse from Moussa Sow.

The former French under-21 international is also brave and prepared to mix it which, when coupled with an admirable team-ethic, means he won't go shirking when the Robert Huths of the Premier League start administering their rough-housing. As we all know far too many gifted individuals – many of them superior prospects to Sow – have flopped in Blighty due to not applying graft to their craft.

The player's contract runs out in 2013 and he has dropped some very heavy hints about wanting to ply his trade elsewhere. In March he said 'Only God knows what will happen in the future'.

With the European elite all pressing their faces against the Lille showroom window however Liverpool should act fast, even if the player has professed a desire to play for the club. Spurs and Newcastle have both been linked and Liverpool can ill afford to see those two teams strengthen at their expense.

Not sure why everyone is moaning, building a team takes time and we are still very much in the hunt for 4th. As for Carroll, he's not been great but neither has he been awful. He hasn't been given the right kind of service until the last few games and I think it is stupid to start making outrageous statements too soon. If he wants to play, cherishes the shirt and, gets good service he will come good.

Not a rumour, but just watching most wanted.
Why the f@"k did we get rid of Danny Murphy?

Because he was so slow and didnt do much {Ed016's Note - No, Danny Murphy wanted to play under an English manager, as did Gerrard and Owen after Houllier left.}

Murphy was quality and that went unnoticed by a lot of Liverpool fans

"Because he was so slow and didnt do much" - bit like charlie adam

He was slow and didn't do much FOOL.he should have had two more seasons with us

Danny Murphy should never be criticised by any Liverpool fan,just remember his winning goals at Old Trafford.

Is it just me or does anyone think its about time the club stood up for itself, the treatment we are getting from referees (latest being the penaulty shouts with andy carroll ) cant see any other club putting up withj it, I know we were rubbish but can we not expect a fair game ! webb should at least be questioned

It's all part of the FA's grand plan to ban tackling and replace it with wrestling.

16 Jan 2012 17:57:41
Love to see carroll loaned out for a season to a team that suits his style of play : Stoke ? , QPR? , or Burton Albion?

Why loan him to a team that suits HIS style of play when we clearly need him to suit OUR style of play think before you post you muppet

Its all well and good saying Liverpool aren't playing to Carroll's strenghts but he has to adapt to the way Dalglish wants to play football aswell.

Liverpool have handed a two-week trial to Swedish teenager Abdul Aziz. Abdul Aziz plays for swedish side ISK Norkopping and he is only 14 years old.

Why isn't Kenny playing him in the first team?

16 Jan 2012 17:38:35
Hey Edd's and Macca
Doubt most of these are likely at all, but seeing as how we require a proven goalscorer how would you feel about signing one of the following? :
Gomez, Papiss Cisse, Negredo, Matri, Gameiro, Sow (I know the latest media gossip about him seeing moving to us as a dream)
These players all scored 20 or more goals last season, without being stupidly unreasonable transfers such as Messi, Ronaldo or Aguero

Could you imagine Suarez calling Negredo for the ball! He'd be in trouble every week lol

16 Jan 2012 17:34:45
We should all accept that top 4 is off this year. Our competition is Chelsea, and despite they having their worst season in a decade we are 5 points behind, and will be dropping further. We should focus on catching Arsenal for 5th for Europa league ( as a means of testing our youth system).

If we started scoring goals, 5 points no gap to worry about it. chelsea are hardly more guaranteed to be winning week in week out than we are. lets not forget we beat them at the bridge 3 times last year.

Thank god you have no say at Liverpool!

I know people want the Luis Suarez affair to go away but I still have a deep feeling of injustice in the way he was treated by the FA.
Is there anyone on these pages who knows about the Civil Law of Defamation. As far as I can tell "a defamatory statement is presumed to be false, unless a defendant can PROVE its truth". If Evra was sued by Luis for Defamation in the High Court he would be hung out to dry in the same way our man was by the FA. He would have to give evidence for the first time 'On Oath' and would have to PROVE what he heard to a 'proper' Court. The culture of the South American continent has been questioned by the FA and their 3 man team so there are bigger issues at stake here, not just Luis's reputation.
Can anyone help with answers?
Midsred

I hear you . . however . Time to move on

ynwa

I totally agree with you. Suarez, in his 'apology', said sorry for saying the Spanish word 'Negro' only one time. He was found guilty by the supposedly impartial tribunal of saying it seven times, for which they only have Evra's word - vehemently denied by Suarez. It is my understanding that if the FA had a problem with his 'apology' and decided to take action as they say he said it seven times, then it could go into the courts, and this is why the FA didn't complain, as they know it would make them look like fools of it did. Nick.

There is never a time to move on from injustice.

The English FA are the laughing stock of world football. They couldn't organise a **** up in a brewery. Instead they decide to take a stance against one particular issue, an issue I fully back by the way, and go totally overboard with the punishment.

Will be interesting to see how the FA acts when the next world cup is in Brazil - a country who the FA has essentially labelled as inherently racist, along with the rest of South America. I will be surprised if there isn't some sort of incident that comes back to bite them. Nick.

With the sow situation eds. Is it likely he can join this window with th ACON coming up? Surely his national team won't let him go to sign for a new club. So do you see it more of a summer signing than jan? 16 Jan 2012 17:21:21
I Just wanted to come out and "defend" Andy Carroll sort of. Now before you get your knickers in a twist hear me out.

In 2007 LFC bought a certain Lucas Leiva from Grêmio for £6 million. Lucas took 2 years to fulfill his potential and become the player he is now. When he got injured recently it was highlighted how crucial he is for Liverpool. I know it's going to be argued that Lucas needed time to settle in England etc. but I feel that Andy is in the same sort of situation (albeit a more costly one). He is still struggling to come to terms with costing £35 million squids and add to that Liverpool's passing one/two touch football, it was a recipe for disaster. Carroll is still young and has more potential than ability and I (as do 90% of Liverpool fans I know) sympathise with him.

What I'm basically trying to do is convince people to give Carroll a year. If he hasn't improved next season, then sell him in the 2013 Summer Window. If he hasn't I'll hold my hands up and say "I was wrong".

And yes I do know what I'm getting myself into. And sorry Ed's for having to read through this but I felt I had to get my point across (although it's probably better than most rubbish you read)

JAZZ

He has been here for a year already and so far no-one has seen anything like the form shown whilst at Newcastle.
So you say he might need two years and so the extra year from now is needed........
Lucas showed the odd glimpse of what he was capable of when he first arrived.
Don't forget, he came from abroad and had to learn the language, culture, speed & physicality of our league.
Carroll didn't need to learn the language or the culture. He was already doing well in the league whilst at Newcastle.
So in the last year he has taken a major step backwards.

I know it doesn't sound like it, but I do want him to be a success. He is strong enough to play up top on his own, DOES have a very good touch so CAN play in a passing system and has an absolute hammer of a left foot.

I can't put my finger on why it hasn't clicked so far.

Maybe the team isn't playing to his strengths. If that's the case then it's bad management as you have a £35m asset that you can't make use of.

It's either that or £35m has been wasted on a player that will never fit into the style of play being coached.

One way or another it needs sorting fast.

Who would be better for liverpool currently is the question here, carrol or a in form new signing. keeping carrol in the starting 11 would hugely dent our chances of 4th which is already very low. but putting him on the bench for the rest of the season would not do his confidence any good. i think andy carrol is the one to take this decision. if he wants to stay here he has to give his 100% and more if not move asap for the sake of his career

a liverpool and carrol supporter who thinks the two cant work together

I'm getting sick and tired of hearing about the Lucas analogy with Carroll. You cannot apply the same principles. Lucas was asked to do a job he wasn't familiar with when he first came to Liverpool, he had the basic skills to work with, he could trap a ball on the move, run, tackle and whilst at first the majority of his passes went backwards, he still saw the pass. Moreover, he's a dedicated pro who has reeled the rewards of hard work on the training field and a clean balanced life. This cannot be said of Carroll and never will.

have heard from a friend who polishes the door handles at anfield that fsg are unhappy with dagliesh and no money for him to spend. expect him to go in summer with gus hiddink touted to step in and be given a sizeable kitty to buy young, technically capable players and goalscorer. persoannly a right winger, playmaker and striker in mould of higuain/ cavani would do it. defence has been good all season but lacking ideas in final third. might be inexperience but downing should go for sure.

Opta stats taken from www.liverpoolfc.tv …..
interesting reading from the Opta stats, especially on Henderson and Downing. I wasn't at the match and I know stats don't tell the story of the game, however they do imply we're not winning enough one-on-one duels, especially in the air, our set pieces are crap and our shooting is extremely poor (no surprise there).
What I can't enterpret is whether it's the system or personnel that's at fault.

Opta stats from Saturday's goalless draw with Stoke show how Liverpool piled on the pressure in a bid to break the deadlock.
Tony Pulis's men were forced to make 72 clearances while Dalglish's side made just 14 and the Reds fired in 42 crosses compared to Stoke's eight.
The corner count was also a massive 11-1 in Liverpool's favour.
Glen Johnson looked the most likely to score as the defender had four efforts on goal.
In all, Liverpool had 15 shots but only one was on target. Stoke managed just three efforts at Pepe Reina's net.
Eight of Liverpool's strikes came from outside the 18-yard box while their opponents failed to register an attempt from inside the Reds' penalty area.
The home side dominated possession with a 68.7 per cent share of the play and won 50.6 per cent of their 'duels'. But in the air, the stats show that Stoke were far superior, winning 63.6 per cent of the battles.
Mark Sorensen had a total of 63 touches but his opposite number Pepe Reina was far more accurate in his distribution, finding a Liverpool player with 85.2 per cent of his passes compared to Sorensen's 55.2 per cent.
Both keepers were forced to make just one save each.
Steven Gerrard touched the ball 99 times, more than any other player on the pitch. Martin Skrtel had 95 to leave him second while Stoke's Glenn Whelan and Mark Sorensen each had 63.
Gerrard also hit the most deliveries on the field (79).
Of the 17 players who played the full 90 minutes, Jose Enrique had the best pass accuracy with an 88.7 per cent completion rate. The Spaniard played 62 balls, 8.2 per cent of which were sent long up the pitch.
In the 59 minutes before his substitution, Stewart Downing proved to be most accurate at picking out a teammate, finding a Liverpool player 89.5 per cent of the time. He attempted 39 passes whereas Charlie Adam made 75.
Jordan Henderson emerged from every 'duel' with possession and recorded a 100 per cent success rate in 'aerial duels'. The young midfielder also made two interceptions during the 74 minutes before his substitution.
Henderson also had more shots than any other Liverpool midfielder, trying his luck three times, twice from outside the box.
Kuyt struck twice from inside the Stoke penalty area but neither of his efforts troubled Sorensen.
Adam was fouled three times by the opposition but he also conceded three free kicks. In both instances that was more times than any other player on the park.
Liverpool played more than twice the amount of passes (624) than their opponents (283) and as a team they had a pass accuracy of 71 per cent.

Will this mean anything to all those that said we were "negative"?

Chris in Tamworth

Yes, despite best efforts - yet again the ball didn't cross the line Chris... Wish ffs it did one in a while, the rub of the green just isn't with us at the moment. That said most were put out by the three at the back set up, we'd likely all spin on a sixpence if we'd knocked a couple in...

Not negative, just rueful of missed opportunities throughout the season and the difference an intentful set up and a couple of inches can make...

Suffolkn'Red

Well win leauge then if stats say were great.Excellent,thought was about goals,obviously not

Chris in Tamworth. I very much doubt it. A lot still regard playing 5 at the back as defensive because they don't understand the concept of wing-backs and the fact that it is an offensive formation. We were all over Stoke like a bad rash. The problem is clearly our delivery in the final third and our use of what little succeeds in being delivered. RED LENIN

I just want to put my two cents in on a few things. I come on here multiple times a day when im at my computer and more so at the end of an evening to read a lot of comments/posts. A lot of the comments are moaning about certain players/tactics and other small things.
Now, im not arguin against you or sayin that i dont see your point, because i do, but what we have to remember, which a lot of fans forget (mostly those that come on when we have lost) is that most of our summer buys were bought for potential, Hendo, Carroll, big money signings maybe, but they are still young and still have a lot to develop, not everyone is Steven Gerrard and was born with the ability, they need to improve it, work on it and build it. For that, they need to be playin games, its never goin to develop and improve through trainin, trainin and more trainin, at some point they are goin to need to put that trainin into practice in the real thing. Im as annoyed like most about the games we are losin/drawin, theres no need to be drawin against the likes of Stoke (no disrespect intended) and although we have come a long way, games like that show how far we still have to go, but all of you need to remember people like Lucas, everyone hated Lucas and now he is arguably 4rd best player we got after Gerrard/Suarez and Reina, easily. You have to allow breathing space on mistakes, granted, mistakes are annoyin and theres only so many people can take, but players are humans, Hendo, Carroll come from Sunderland and Toon respectivly, not the biggest of clubs, forgivin & understanding fans, but at a club like Liverpool where we SHOULD be in CL and SHOULD be competin for the major honours, theres a lot more pressure, theres a lot less give in mistakes and there are hundreds and thousands more critisin fans. These players need time to adapt, time to get used to the tactics and style of play. New teams, new managers, new trainin regime, new home, its a lot to adapt to. I do like Carroll, and know where his strengths are, but i think its wrong to change style of play to suit JUST him because it throws the rest of the team off, we need to suit Liverpool, do what Liverpool do and slowly but surely Carroll will get used to it and be able to succeed, and in all fairness to him, he's playin in the shadow of Suarez, and we all know what Suarez is like. So as annoyed as i am that we are not performin how the fans and myself would like, we are a team in transition, we are a team rebuilding under new owners and KK/Comolli, we cannot accept less than best, but when we are working towards the best, us fans need to be lenient and accept when things dont go our way. As the Ed's and many posters have said before, time is on our side, these players are young and will eventually (hopefully) be developed to there best within our club, these players are here to give us the push to top 4, where we will then be able to spend more money on players who want to be at Liverpool and able to play CL. We need to accept that we are not in CL and the players we have are the best for what we are tryin to achieve currently, be patient, be respectful and slowly but surely we will get there, look where we are now compared to last year, thats a massive improvment.
Enrique has arguably been our best buy from the summer, i wasnt a big fan on him at Toon and wasnt best pleased when he signed, but he has made me rethink my whole impression of him, i would have been happy if we paid 20 million for him if we knew he was guna play like he has been and as for Adam, for some reason ts jus not working, maybe its because everythin else is not working at the moment, but my own personal view is when the team are firin on all cylinders this will give Adam the lift he needs to achieve what he did at Blackpool, plus once Lucas is back i also think that will give him the push to compete for his place.
But whatever happens, we need to stand by the players we got, understand their humans and support them whatever the result, these are the players we rely on to do what we want them to do. They know Liverpool, they know the history, they know where we should be and soon enough, they will deliver.
Sorry if i rambled on a bit, but i jus wanted to say my piece.

Carb

This a defence of Kenny Dalglish, and his approach to rebuilding Liverpool.

The people criticizing Kenny atm have lost sight of the woods for the trees.

I reckon that the project is going very well. People are very reactionary in some of their comments and may have lost sight of the bigger picture - both medium term and long term.

Look at our current team.

Defensively - we are absolutely sorted. Players such as Johnson, Skrtel and Agger (who were all hounded here under Hodgson) have all improved immensely. We are sorted for the long term too, with the likes of Wilson, Coates, Robinson, Kelly and Flanagan all waiting in the wings. At LB, Enrique has been a great signing.

In terms of playing good football - We have become a very good passing side, one of the best in the league. We have controlled and dominated almost all the games we have played this season (barring Spurs and City).

That Stoke hardly had the ball on Saturday is a point worthy of praise. Under Hodgson (and Rafa's later days) we couldn't string three passes together and lumped aimless long balls to no-one in particular.

The likes of Henderson and Adam have played their part in maintaining a solid base in central midfield, playing their part in our great defensive record - and should be praised for playing their part in improving our ball retention - they make it look easy and do not get enough praise for it.

That is the good news -

I accept we have problems in terms of goalscoring. We have been unlucky in some respects, hitting the post and coming up against on-form goalkeepers hasn't helped, but these things happen.

I also accept that we have a chronic lack of pace and creativity in the attacking areas of our side, particularly in wide areas.

That Bellamy and Maxi cannot play every game does not help either. Were Bellamy capable of playing every game I am sure we would be a better side for it - Also, Downing playing on the right one week and the left the next has halted his progress imo. He need to work up an understanding with his FB and nearest striker/central midfielder to find consistency.

We also need proper competition for Downing - a natural RW/RM with pace and technical ability is obviously needed, but backup for both the left and right is also required, as the likes of Kuyt, Maxi and perhaps Bellamy will be gone within 1-2 years (or this month in some cases).
Having to put the likes of Henderson, Kuyt and Shelvey in such roles is clearly not ideal either.

That the likes of Sterling, Suso and perhaps Silva will break through in 1-2 years is a bonus, but they are not ready yet. We need players that are ready for the first team. Downing is the only winger we have, this is not good enough.

These additions need not be fantasy football signings either. Weiss wants out from Man City, dos Santos from Spurs - perhaps these could be possible? Siclair from Swansea may be ore exppensive, but has been linked. These are just some examples to show that we don't need to spend £30m to find quality, bargains exist.

Up front we have also had problems. When Suarez is injured there is no-one to compensate for the loss of his pace.

We badly need a backup striker with pace. I believe that Carroll can improve and become a good player, but ONLY if he plays with a pacey strike partner who stays in central areas alongside him - the same goes for Kuyt.

I am sure that Kenny is aware of these problems and is seeking to address them.
If we must spend big (in the region of £20m+) on two positions - I would suggest splashing out on the right-wing/midfield and someone with pace, skill, strength and an eye for goal upfront.

Although I do get the feeling that likes of Cole, Aqua, Poulson and the aforementioned older players may need to be shifted before any really 'big' money is made available.

I think it is good to see our clubs finances being properly managed in this regard. Just over a year ago there was talk of going broke - do those clamouring to spend, spend, spend really want us to do a Leeds and live beyond our means?

To all the critics -

Do you really want to undo all the positive things Kenny has done since his arrival?

Our excellent defence, our great ability to retain possession and the solidity that our midfield now offers both in central and wide areas. We have also created a lot of chances - we can improve further in this regard as I am aware, but we are a positive attack minded side. As stated earier, we have dominated the vast majority of our games this saason, just as we demanded.

I reckon that with the addition of more pace, ability and natural balance out wide, and the addition of more pace/better quality options up front (perhaps 4-5 players at the most to replace the likes of Bellamy, Maxi and Kuyt) that we can address the one remaining problem in the side. Namely - what we do with the ball in the final 3rd.

I am not prepared to just rip up all this excellent work which has addressed many of our problems. Give Kenny more time people - he needs another 1-2 years to finally build the squad he really wants.

It's not just gonna happen this January - although one or perhaps two of the 4-5 needed may arrive.

We are close to being an excellent side - start looking at the positives, once we address the few remaining negatives we can be real contenders.

BJH YNWA.

ps - The investment in youth has also been excellent, great to see a commitment to splashing the cash on the likes of Shelvey, Wison, Coates, Sterling, Ibe and others. We are building a squad that with 4-5 additions, can be sorted for years to come. The project is not yet complete, but show some patience.

pps - Sorry about the length of the post.

I think the reason why people have started questioning kenny (stupid i know) is because -
Adam is still struggling to get his fitness up and tends to start doing lazy passes but next season we should see the real Adam-I hope anyway.

-Downing was bought for his crossing ability to supply Carrol and all he wants to do is cut in and lose the ball-Thank god we got Bellamy and Gerrard!!

And we can all see the improvements of Carrol in recent weeks and i think by (sadly) not this season but Next season Carrol will be a force to be reckoned with BUT it is mainly the £35million price tag that poor Carrol has been lumbered with and people will always say well Aguero cost this and He cost that...Have faith brothers they just need time

Liverpool look set to sign Abdul Aziz a Swedish 14 year old after giving the Sierra Leone born striker a 2 week trial, he's dubbed the "baby Didier Drogba". Full story on SSN, good news IMO. Our youth team looks incredible and full with high potential players: Sterling, Robinson, Flanagan, Jordan Ibe, Seyi Ojo and now hopefully this Swedish lad.

Hello all.So Moussa sow, Jermain defoe, David teixeira, Mauro zarate,[mystery striker]. All got some good qulity in 'em. If liverpool have top 4 ambitions, as Carra said, they've gotta stop home draws. They're good enough as top of the league in terms of goals conceded. When it comes to SCORING, however, they are good for a mid-table ninth. So they've got to add firepower to their goal-scoring and add atleast one of these few as a backup OR a goal-source. Not saying one of these WILLnecessarily come come but just a possibility. Or otherwise LFC could bring youngsters like Sterling and Suso into the first team. They tried Flanno and Jack robinson last year and they proved to be fairly good. So well something's gotts be done to increase the number of goals anyways

The Carroll to Newcastle rumours have been quashed, but you must admit, the lad would be aching to back home. His own 'fans' slight him every day, he's playing s**te and not allowed to drink or smoke. What's the lad got to look forward to? Oh, the money. Right.

16 Jan 2012 15:55:53
IF we sign anyone in January, I reckon it will not be any names mention in any rumour forums? I could be wrong but?

Also if AC go's in this window it'll be a last minute thing like FT amd Merilles? But I hope he stays, not even had a full season of games!

Everyone keeps saying we need a poacher but I happen to agree with kennys comments that what were actually missing is creativity around the oppostion box. With Carra not starting we are playing a lot higher up the pitch this season because of the cover Aggers pace provides and this is forcing the opposition to deffend deep in numbers against us. We are struggling to get past the last man or produce quality chances to the forwards which is making them look really bad.
This is even worse at home and against the so called lesser teams because they tend to be even more defensive against us. The second half of last season we had a lot of success on the counter often with 5 at the back with the movement of Meireles, Kuyt, Maxi, suarez up front.
We have been unlucky in the fact that the 2 players Gerrard and Suarez who are capable of breaking teams down have not been able to play together.
It is ironic that Aquilani and cole are 2 players with the ability to make the killer pass but they never worked out for us. I think the lad Erickson would be ideal but done think he's really an option for a few reasons at the moment, and if you look at these type of players, your Roony's, Messi's, Iniesta, Hazard, Erickson, Aguero, Ronaldo they are the most prized type of footballer in the world.
Our best option is to vary our tactics a bit more ar to find a youngster and develop him in the longer term. I do think a team with Lucas, Suarez and Gerrard fit all year ( and available ) would be worth a few more points but having seen them live a few times this season, we still have the same problem that has plagued us for a few seasons we are struggling to break teams down and produce quality chances, note quality chances not quantity. Just my opinion but like KK said we need to be more creative were getting a bit predictable.

I am a season ticket holder,and I don't know about anyone else but I can't take anymore draws,especially 0-0.On Saturday I was beggining to wonder if the bench was watching a differnt game to me.We had three at the back it was obvious after about five minutes that we didn't need this formation.We needed to drag Stoke wide and get crosses in and it just didn't happen,Carroll should have started the game with Kuyt with Bellamy and Downing hugging the touchline and getting crosses in.Downing isn't having the best of times but you don't take your wide man off and replace him with a tall striker who needs crosses.As for Carroll,ok he isn't doing well but he hasn't had a run of games so until he does his confidence and touch will never come back.If we think back to when we bought Crouch he was pretty woeful but Rafa played him consistently until he scored,thats what Carroll needs.Then if he is still hopeless then fair enough.Can someone please tell me why we always play with one up front,I know evryone does now but I think it's Negative.

Bring back Rafa Benitez!

Rafa will NEVER manage again period. Thank God

To the one who said bring back rafa benitez! I bet you were one of the thousands shouting for him to go at that time - HYPOCRITE !

Count yourself lucky you've got a season ticket! There's plenty of us that would be satisfied with that, and with the work in progress that is going on under KK.

Im season ticket holder also and count myself lucky having one cos love the club kk,but not the drab home draws.Most aint been great games either

I manage to get tickets about 5 times a year. I am struck at how quiet the fans are now.......come on you season ticket holders, try being the 12th man. I know the results aren't always great but get behind the team. Remember Shanks?

16 Jan 2012 15:02:12
Hey Eds and reds,

All of this negativity around KK and certain new players etc, I don't think its a case that we don';t have the skill to succeed in our quest for 4th, I think its down to consistency and motivation from the players themselves, and not one or two but every player starting and on the bench.

People mention the likes CL football tempting the higher quality players so Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal could all tempt a better quality of player than we could. I agree, however, it doesn't mean anything at the end of the day. We have played city 3 times, won one, lost one drew one so that makes us even. Drew with Man Utd, beat chelsea twice and beat arsenal. If these high profile players make so much difference in a team how did we produce these results? Because we riled ourselves up for the games. We made the games huge, the support was fantastic and the players really wanted to win.

When we're playing against lower teams, we lose the desire, the fight, you can see it in the backtracking, the runs off the ball and the stance of the players themselves that they are just not fighting as hard as they have in these more exclusive games. KK can only do so much, its down to the players to bring themselves and each other up for each and every game. When someone's lagging, another player should pull them back up. When there's a lull in the match, our supporters should shout, scream cheer positively to bring the team up.Any negative comments screamed from the terrace are only going to bring the players down more and therefore, worsen the performance.

Finally, the unwavering support from the crowd towards Suarez is brilliant and the lad knows now how much we love him, but I don't think the players on the pitch are getting any motivation when as hard as they try, a lot are being ignored or berated whilst all they can hear is a players name chanted, sang, cheered, who is not even in the stadium.

Lets get behind the team for a full 90 minutes, leave the stadium with no voice left in us at all, make every match a champions league night and I guarantee you will see the players respond and fight for every second the game is in play.

I may be wrong and it might not make the slightest bit of difference, come on to the forum after the match and moan as much as you like, just not at the players at the game assisting them in making more mistakes because they are so on edge it will happen.

Bright times ahead, do you agree Eds or am I off the mark on this one. We've proven with the squad we have we can compete, just need the support to do the same and the players to be consistent.

16 Jan 2012 15:18:06
I'm starting to think its not worth buying anyone this window. Firstly, if we feel the right player for us
is really De Jong, then its better waiting until the summer to get him rather than buying Sow or whoever
else this window and not buying de jong in the summer.

Secondly, I think we do have the players, the team and
the squad to make the top 4. And they've got lots to
play for. I'd like to see some of the younger lads making some apearences. I'd like to see this squad fully tested before calling on reinforcements. Andy Carroll is not a flop (yet), give the lad a good run and lets reassess everything in the summer. We may get better quality players then at a better price. Lets really put the pressure on the players bought in the summer to perform, get them out there fighting the second half of the season, they are in a good position. They've had only half a season together and are already playing really well. Buying in new (and possibly the wrong) players now could unsettle the team rather than solving the problems we have and getting them to continue to gel.

{Ed001's Note - what if the plan is to buy Sow now and De Jong in the summer? As De Jong is a replacement for Kuyt, while Sow is to strengthen the current team.}

Well Ed001, that would mean we have Suarez, Carroll, Sow and de Jong, all of them would want to play regularly and keeping in mind the fact that we may shift to 4-4-1-1 with Gerrard in the hole most of the time when fit, do you really see that happening? No doubt it would improve our squad massively, but I think 4 first team strikers+ Bellamy is unlikely. I think it could be between Sow and de Jong.

AG

Most top clubs have 4 good strikers.

Tom.

We would have 3 plus bellamy, how did anyone count carroll? poor mans peter crouch, infact crouch is 100 times better, better technique, control, poacher, good heading, i wouldn't by any of them but if you had to choose surely its peter crouch?RedTurk {Ed019's Note - You must be crazy if you think Crouch has more ability than Carroll}

Yippeeeee at last! nail and head.Though do agree with those saying we need a playmakers craft also

Hi Eds
The fans know we need a new striker with no Suarez at the mo, Andy C with no confidence and Kuyt (bless him he tries hard but couldn't score in a brothel at the moment) but do you think Kenny believes we need a new striker and do you honestly see it happening or will we struggle on and do something in the summer?

thanks

i really want to know the answer to this poser:
is it true that lfc paid 35m for a player that can only use his head( feed on crosses) and take occassional shots with his left foot?
if true, why did we pay so much for a 'limited' player? why didn't consider other sides of the game like ball controlling skill, dribbling skill, strength, hold-up play intelligence, positional sense, off ball movement, winning mentality and others.
Believe me, somebody is going to answer for this at the end of the day and it is not going to be pretty.

Moussa Sow would be a very good signing if Kenny goes for him, he has stated that he would love to score in front of the kop, and we all want players who wants to play for Liverpool (especially Kenny) What do you think Eds, will Kenny go for him? I think he would be a great option, allround forward who can score any type of goal

Hi Ed's.
As is clear today there is a flurry of activity around Moussa Sow. We know he's said he wants to play for Liverpool, and as one Ed said King Kenny likes that in a player. But is the guy any good? I confess I don't know much about him!.
Cheers {Ed001's Note - what I have seen looked good, but I haven't really followed French football closely for a while. I did think he looked suited to England though, that was one of my first thoughts when I watched him.}

He does seem to be quite big, but with some pace. u know who he reminds me of? demba ba. haha. but i have not watched enough to say anything. just from what ive seen.

MR Brown,

Before you call anyone else thick, you should take a much closer look in the mirror ..So you saying chelsea would 've paid us 15m more than we need to replace Torres. Kenny missed a trick there, he should've gone for Messi, paid a 100m or whatever, and got 115m from Chelsea for Torres.
Words like fictional and stupid comes to mind.

Roy and wen did we have the time to look elsewhere considering it was the 11th hour torres handed his transfer request in.another plastic supporter comes to mind.and messi wot a clown he wouldnt come to liverpool another fictional muppet

Saturday was a frustrating day for all but it's gone, it's history. Learn from it and move on. I said last week that Carroll already has a monkey on his back (form, fitness, lack of goals, price tag etc) so the last thing he needs is thousands of fans on his back too. All it does is dent an already deflated confidence. We should all get behind him and try and lift the lad out of this dark place he's in and the players should do their bit and and improve the service to him. He in turn could do with a good hair cut and shave to freshen up his image, would do more for him than people think in terms of a fresh start etc. Oh, and a new pair of boots. I was there on Saturday and he was on his backside several times as soon as he was on the pitch and had to call for a change of boots. This sort of things just fuels the fire as I heard a a fan shouting "£35M and you can't get a decent pair of boots!"...........
The Goatherder

It's not a monkey on his back Goatherder mate. More like a big **** off hairy silverback Gorilla. With a bunch of bananas in its paws.
The Real KB

Yep totally agree The Goatherder. If i were manager, one of the rules would be to turn up on match days clean shaven. Look clean, feel clean, feel fresh. Psychological. I feel crap if i'm not clean shaven. And this thing with the boots drives me nuts. They're on the pitch for like a hour before the game. Preparation!! And it's poor from any player. When you're struggling at least do as much as you can to avoid any avenue for criticism.

Never 'Sir' Bob the Red on this page though! :) {Ed001's Note - I agree with that! Players should have short hair, cuts out the possibility of it getting in the way or being pulled, and clean shaven. They are representing the club and as such should present the right image on the pitch and off it. They can have their hair long and grow a beard when they retire, it is not like their careers are that long anyway!}

Haha, lads remember what Bill Shankly said about facial hair - "Jesus Christ son, never cultivate something on your face that grows wild around your apse" !
The Real KB

If he had a problem with only one of his boots at least he had the clean sense of
of changing both boots, as he changed from
white boots to black ones. If he changed only one of them he'd have had one black and one white and posters on here saying it was a clear sign he only loves Newcastle.

I reckon he should keep the hair and stubble but let his hair down out of the
ponytail, I think he'd look like Russell Brand then.

Hi ed, just wondering what you thoughts on moussa sow as a player are? is he the type of striker we need? {Ed001's Note - he has to be better than Kuyt right now doesn't he? He would not be my choice, but there is a definite need to sign a striker, if for no other reason than to give the team the same boost that we saw when Gerrard returned.}

He looks awesome on you-tube ed lol.
yeah have to agree with you ed the team need a lift we just don't have a enough firepower up front im praying for Andy to get a few really hope the lad does well
maybe if we were scoring more it might just ease the pressure on him.
k-h

I live near to Rennes and have seen alot of him. Since he left rennes he has improved alot and certainly looks a far better striker than kuyt and carroll he also looks well suited to the prem.

Not a rumour, I just don't understand why so many "fans" are taking our form out on KK. Yes it does look like 4th is unlikely at the moment but we have certainly improved by a great deal. KK is the one who spends every day with the players and the club and there are people on here who think they know better than him? Idiots.

We criticse new players like Dowing, Adam and Henderson... but could it be that the forward line is not quite working interliigenlty wihtout play?

There has been so many occasison when the ball has flown across the 6 yeard box with no forward in sight of it. They are teh brest type of gaols in my opinion. Good direct, powerful in the box play.

I'm wondering as we can keep the ball quite well.

I think it is a fair comment mate, although when we do break down the wings and fizz the ball across Adam and Henderson are way behind the play,

Mo

35 million could buy you somebody to put on the end of them balls... just so happens we pi$$ed the doe up the wall

Hello fellow mellows...as a long time supporter of the reds I understand where many of the concerns and suggestions on here are coming from but I suggest we do a quick reality check.

Perspective. The world we know is based on it and football is no different. Right now we are struggling and everyone knows who is to blame and how to remedy it...blah blah blah...but so does everyone else including the manager and other brass at the club. Unfortunately other clubs are also aware of our position and there is the first problem. Even if FSG were willing to invest (unlikely given the lack of return from decisions made in the summer), the clubs we're currently approaching (yes no doubt we are trying) are using our current state of desperation and past examples of overpaying to try and con us into a ridiculous deal. Look at the Tevez saga for example where Inter needed him and City put an unreasonable pricetag on his shirt. Now look at the £25mill bid Inter put in after their derby win and you'll notice they have some power from their apparent ability to do without him. Perspective. This tug of war is exactly what we're in the middle of with our targets.

We all know Carroll needs to go, but is that gonna happen unless he shows something worth what we're asking for him? No and that's why KK has to play him and has to back him. If we could've sold him obviously there's cash in hand for transfers but sadly with a fortnight left in the window we can't manage it anymore. Next option pull an 'Inter' and show that we aren't desperate. Ha there's a tough sell because we are and it's bleeding obvious. Even our result against City was useless since we didn't show any strength in goal.

It's a tough position for the people in charge and even within that circle there will be clashing of ideas regd whom to pursue with flops like Andy fresh in mind. But at the end of the day we're still doing well in the standings, have a good core of world class players (mind you three of whom Agger Suarez Lucas weren't available vs Stoke), new talent YET to hit their stride, we have debt free ownership, King Kenny, and we have LFC. Oh and then there's the last thing we have- pride- which will ensure we'll always work to bring all those blessings together until our goals result in glory. So plz stop moaning about this n that about how the pros dunno what they're doing and how we could do it better and how I would write a check for Jack and I would sign Tom bc none of you Tom Dicks n Arrys can do anything about it anyways. Wanna put your two cents in- support the club instead of looking for scapegoats and saviors. And plz plz plz don't doubt the manager or management bc they absolutely knowwhat they're doing but it's us who don't have the wits to see it.

Keep your perspective
Know your role
And you'll never walk alone.
AZKOP

Well said all good points, Lets give kenny and the team time.

is granero likely to move in jan? aren't we looking for a winger?

16 Jan 2012 13:09:07
I think carrager should play up front. He's scoered more goals against us than any other English player (6) I think. He knows were the goal is he's just at the wrong end of the pitch.

Don't take it serious it's a joke.

defo to sign 4 liverpool,bookies say 6/4!

16 Jan 2012 12:37:41
Eds, do you know of any bids by Liverpool
on players already in this window, that have been
turned down? If so can you give us some names?

RedAce {Ed001's Note - just enquiries so far, I believe. Seems most players are making it well known they are not going to move ahead of the Euros. Hence why the likes of Sow have moved to the forefront, they aren't worried about their place in the national side in the summer.}

16 Jan 2012 13:00:14
The problem with 'form' it has the unfortunate event of either papering over cracks or exposing faults that aren't as bad as they are appearing and polarising fans opinion's which serves to muddy the water further. You'll have a set of fans clearly unhappy and abusing players against a set of fans who will support the team. This will degenerate into a 'support the club or f**k off' verses 'you of such stupid blind faith'.

It all adds up to the frustration and that is exactly what transfers onto the pitch for home games. Whilst one fan will be riled by another fan's 'blind support' who in turn gets wound up by the constant slating of players, this merry-go-around continues unabated with no one getting any satisfaction whatsoever. You can choose to have rose tinted glasses on or you could decide that you're not going to accept what's on offer and let everyone know.

For my part I'm a 'glass is half full' kind of supporter/fan. I try to see the bigger picture. I try to see the positives and concentrate on those points rather than allow the negatives take over. I try to judge a player over a period of time, recognising that mistakes happen and bad games happen. Which is fine and serves me well. However there has to be a line and to know when a topic has crossed the line or not to change your opinion and admit you got it wrong.

I'm not there yet, however warning signs are loudly banging in my head. I did not think we would be plagued with such in-efficiencies' and in-effectiveness throughout the season at home from every player imaginable. I cannot recall a season whereby in early January we would have had 7 out of 11 games winless. Of those 7 I believe we could and should have won 6 with the chances we've had in those games.

Whilst you can say 'we've been unlucky' for 3 possibly 4 games to extend that to 7 in such a short amount of time, is stretching it. However how can you legislate for the likes of Suarez, then Carroll, then Kuyt, then Agger, then Suarez again and on and on continually missing chances that are relatively simple to score?

That's what's happening. The run has gone on too long and it is now definitely affecting our play, especially at home. This helps the opposition no end and gives them a route to come and frustrate a team and supporters who are already frustrated enough before the game begins.

That said. I do not sign up to the calls that players are 'not fit to wear the shirt' just because we are going through a sticky, albeit unacceptable, patch. The majority of players getting this stick are Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Adam.

Saturday we didn't play well. Granted. One club who are the best at killing games are Stoke and as they needed any extra encouragement to do that? Some players are going through a tough time, heightened more by the frustrating run we are going through which rebounds back and makes their form look even worse.

Downing, Adam and Carroll are struggling. Downing didn't start too well, rallied before xmas and has now gone downhill again, rather than pushing on and improving. Adam has been awful the last few weeks. His delivery from set pieces has been shockingly poor. Clearly knows he's struggling, confidence low and he has the knowledge that at a big club, there's no hiding place. He's exposed and this is the reality of playing for a big club, where you are not allowed to have any kind of poor form. The one big asset he has, his use of the dead ball, is actually letting him down more than his actual form. Carroll, where to begin with him? Shocking service by the likes of Downing and Adam it has to be said. He's another finding out the hard way of playing for a big club, with massive expectations. He is clearly struggling and in the area of the pitch where it is vital.

Now pitch yourself in their shoes and what you really need are people around you supporting, urging you and trying to keep your confidence on the up. But what they get are thousands of you telling them exactly what they know already. Hardly inspiring stuff, hardly the words you need to assist you. They don't want to hear they're World class players, they just want to hear you encouraging them, even if you don't believe it yourself.

I don't think we're actually a million miles away from a settled top 4 side. Generally throughout the season we have played some great football. We definitely have an issue in the final third, so let's not allow one third of our play to ruin the other two thirds, which is what we are doing and losing sight of the progress we are making.

There's one difference between Arsenal and Liverpool this season. We have played far, far better in the majority of games but Arsenal have had one player, just one player make the difference. Their performances have not justified their results. Our results have not justified our performances but that crucial ingredient 'goals' is a rather important one and is ruining our efforts.

If we continue to drop points, it builds too much pressure on the next game and so on. Ultimately it may have already decided our season. I doubt it though and our current position is down to perception.

Had we been lying 2nd 5 points adrift of whoever with 21 games gone, everyone would say we're perfectly placed to launch a run to the end of the season. Arsenal are playing awful, home and away and will drop more points, Chelsea are playing no better but recently have been scraping 3 points but are no longer the side that others feared. We have been playing well but have been awful in front of goal.

So three teams all in it for 4th. Only 5 points separating us all. 50 odd to play for. It aint the end of the World…..yet. We are well in this. We have by far the better defence of all three, Stevie G coming back in and Suarez having a desperately needed break, (enforced agreed) AND we aren't getting beat every other week. Saturday's result is gone. Forgotten. Move onto the next game and try hard again to put it right. It takes a fair bit of doing to keep patient in trying times and man wasn't Saturday trying?! .

For richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, till death us do part. I now pronounce you married to Liverpool Football Club. Amen Vicar. Praise the Lords Shankly & Paisley.

Bob the Red

Great post. The question is though Bob, where do we go from here? In relation to Andy Carroll escpecially, do we buy players to play to his strengths because he will "come good" with better service? Or do we accept it just won't work and buy players to help the "pass and move" philosophy?

Ash

Bravo Bob! Thx for the breath of fresh air in this stale atmosphere... Azkop

For the record :
Arsenal have lost 7 x league games so far ;
Chelsea lost 5 ;
Newcastle lost 5.
We've lost 4 x matches, all away from home. Still unbeaten at Anfield.
You could have added to the credentials of the 'other lot' - lack of patience, no respect for other teams, no inkling of finances, etc etc.
Yes we need a face or two but just leave it and let it happen.
The Real KB

Ash,

Very interesting point and one i touched upon in the post. When do you come to a conclusion that the player is just not going to make it?

Surely they need longer than 12 mths? Look at Lucas as a case in point. Horses for courses. Why is Carroll failing? Look at the qaulity of the service, improve that then have a look.

The Real KB, i know you're always ready to add onto the posts! I'm wondering if the posts i make are getting too long in any event? I agree entirely with your last point though mate :)

Bob the Red

Thanks Bob. The voice of reason.

I usually agree to your posts, then go back and read them.

Matt S - YNWA

Excellent post as always Bob. You highlight a number of critical issues, but as Ash put it, where do we go from here? I would say stick to our plan and buy players that suit our systems, after all that is our long term project.

AG

Great post again Bob, sums up perfectly the season's up's and downs to-date. Like you I don't think we are that far away and with a little bit more luck we could and should be higher in the league. As you said we are 5 pts of a top 4 place, with our 3 main rivals to come, plus in the semi of one cup with a cracker of a game in the 4th round of the FA cup...... So things didn't go well on Saturday, but if the boys continue to believe in what KK and SC want them to do, then hopefully it will come right and we will move up the league and earn our reward! - TMac

You've got a lot to say bob and you say it well.
hadn't thought about it but your spot on about if we were in 2nd right now. 5 points is nothing now that no team is looking invulnerable.

x

Good question Ash.
IMO, they'll get an option/s in for Andy Carroll. So no players to 'serve' him maybe, but an alternative.
The Real KB
ps I like your posts, Gazman, Ozone, Redturk, and the other lads who make the argument and sign their posts. Even if I think yous are 75% wrong. Lol.

Love your posts Bob. Always thought-provoking. You should have your own page mate !
The Real KB

I agree, excellent post Bob the Red. My only concern with regard to AC is - if we are to play to his strengths we need to spend serious money on wingers who can guarantee the 'service'.. IF that still doesn't work and AC has to go then we are in danger of starting from scratch OR being forced to continue with a (new)big target man to justify the expensive wingers we have just bought.. Catch 22

Puzzled

There's not that many good wingers around. Anyway, big Andy didn't really have them at Newcastle. Just good delivery from Barton & others with his team mates picking up the knockdowns.

The Irish Rover

Great post Bob. I'm still in the 'let's give our players the support they need' camp, as know what giving support to anyone for anything can do! It's what our famous 12th man is famous for, is it not? I do believe there comes a time where we cut our losses, but didn't we support Crouch for his 18 (I think) barren patch when he first came to us! He came good in the end and still wished we had kept him!

Keith

You come to the conclusion that it's not going to work when it's as clear as the days long that the lad hasn't got the basic tools to work with. As I've said from the outset, whoever scouted Carroll needs roasting.

We should cut our losses now and get someone in who will fit in with the fantastic pass and move football we are trying to cultivate.

Ozone

Thank you Bob!

Ozone,
Who'd take him and for how much ?
The Real KB

Cheers great post Bob!

ChinUp

The real kb, your right there's no suitors. I don't think we'd get £10 mill for him. Nonetheless, I don't feel he has the tools or quality to build a team around. I know I've barked on about him hiding but I saw it again in its full glory against Stoke. I watched match of the day when I got in to verify what I thought I'd seen and low and behold it was worse than I thought. The pushing and pulling antics from the two corners. Firstly, the one wher Huth gets an arm around him and pulls him behind him to allow shawcross to come from behind and head it clear. Shawcross had no right to win that ball and since Carroll was leaning into Huth it should've been easy for him to push Huth off and get in front of him to gain a header on goal. He took the easy hiding option and let Huth bully him.

The second situation, skittle goes up for the corner to give Carroll a bit of protection in order to create him some space for the header. Low and behold Carroll spins off into the hiding zone while skittle easily puts Huth in his place and gets a header on goal. Kenny should've put skittle up front, he would've had a field day against that donkey shirt pulling get Huth.

I was spitting feathers after the game on Saturday due to the shear laziness of Carroll and crafty hiding antics.

Ozone

Great post Ozone again>And a balanced one of you Bob.Not the shameless"I back team"Nonsense,Was even handed,I feel people starting to realise Carrol Prob aint gona make it at LFC

Hi Eds,

Firstly,it's a great site that i'll always surf everyday for news.Imo,LFC needs to get 'ready' or proven players rather than ones for the future for the time being.They need to buy players like C.Tiote/Yann M'Villa/M.Sissoko for Defensive or Holding Midfielder cos C.Adam or J.Spearing are not up to it.As for wingers to supply crosses:A.Johnson is the only player i believe what LFC needs.And for the forwards,LFC should pursue Demba Ba E.Cavani or Hulk.I,like most of LFC fans worldwide wished LFC could go back and challenge for titles and retain status like before.For the time being it seems LFC are not ready yet.Hopefully with good and correct signings,our dreams will be fulfilled...

Regards,
G315T

Partly agree with this, especially about the proven bit, but to think the likes of Hulk will come to us right now, are far fetched! Not even sure Cavani would.....yet! The players Kenny is bringing/brought in, are to get us into the top four and only then will be able to get the big players we need to cement ourselves in the top 3 for years to come! As a Liverpool supporter, I feel players should want to come to us because of our history, but sadly (Torres proved that) it's not what the modern player wants now, although there are the odd ones (Suarez included) and they need to be found!

Keith

Everyone is criticising Andy Carroll and fiar enough because he hasnt been scoring but the lack of service for him is a pretty big factor. For example, against Stoke Kenny replaced Downing (signed for his crossing) and replaced him with Carroll! I dont want to doubt KD but it seems like thats a tactical error. Most of the goals scored by Carroll were headers so lets try and get some on his head rather than expecting him to outpace defenders or skill them. So probably another winger would be helpful - my biggest criticism is that Liverpool currently lack pace outwide and its costing us.

Been looking at the frustration of all these draws at Anfield in a different way...

What if the only home draws of the season so far were against Man U & Man City? We'd be happy, right? Draws against the two teams at the top of the league table isn't that bad especially if we've beaten everyone else.

In the same way, if we're honest with ourselves, we wouldn't be all that upset if we'd lost the away games to Arsenal & Chelsea would we? Again, two of the strongest sides in the league and not points you can simply expect to get.

So, add 10 points (from changing 5 of the 7 draws to wins) and take away 6 and we'd have 39, which already seems better - 12 wins and 3 draws from 21 games looks decent... and yet we'd only be one point closer to 4th than we are now!

Arsenal would be level with us on 39, and Chelsea would have 43 points. Question is, would we still be complaining as much?

Ryan 'O

No one has praised Stoke for digging deep and getting the job done have they ?
For me, the Prem League is stronger than it has been for a while. Teams are taking points off each other, and some of the teams are playing really good football in doing so.
The Real KB

Nicely put Ryan.............

Very True mate but the problem is that we have not capitalised on our wins at Chelsea and Arsenal. Its the slip ups in the so called easier games that has cost us so far.

Kris the Red

Bang on chris,you win your bread and butter(if poss)and bigger game points are a bonus.You put yourself under if you dont win the bread and butter ones

Hi eds!I'm new here.Macca is ex red Jason McAteer?Thanks.Marius {Ed001's Note - nope.}

Do you eds know the identity of Macca or not? {Ed001's Note - to a point, yes. I know what his name is and who he knows. He is not an ex-player.}

Is it Steve Mcmanaman? {Ed001's Note - he is not an ex-player!!!!}

I doubt Jason McAteer can even work out how to turn on a computer let alone use one. Is not for no reason he was known as 'Two Triggers' by the Liverpool players for being twice as thick as Trigger of only Fools and Horses. {Ed001's Note - I did think that, bless him. He is a lovely lad, but not the brightest.}

ED001 - I once met him at a function in the late nineties out on the Wirral. He seemed to be in a world of his own and trying to stick three sausage rolls in his mouth all the time (serious - thats what he was doing). Pastry flakes everywhere. Was also in a bar in Bromborough one friday night with one of my mates. We were stood at the bar and Jason and one of his mates came in. His mate went up to the bar and ordered a pint and a coke. My mate said"Who's the coke for" His mate goes "Jace". My mate goes "Doesn't he drink" to which his mate goes "He's hoping to make the squad tomorrow". My mate bursts out laughing and says "Next time he pulls on a red shirt it will be for Middlesboro or Wrexham." He was gone not long after {Ed001's Note - I remember meeting him while he was at Bolton, I don't really remember much other than wondering how the hell he managed to dress himself in the morning. If he hadn't been quite so stupid I would probably have completely forgotten meeting him, but he really was astoundingly dense bless him. We all thought it was a wind up at first, because no one could honestly be that stupid, but he was. Always willing to sign autographs and stuff while at the club, he would have his pic taken with you etc, while the likes of James would pretend not to notice you.}

That last post was me by the way. Forgot to sign it. Yes you are right - not exactly the brightest sparkler in the packet. RED LENIN

I feel both Scott sinclair and nathan dyer would be fantastic pacey, young, english talent that Liverpool should seriously consider.

What do you guys think?

More importantly ed, how likely could these players be?
P.s Please don't berate me ed! I heart you lol {Ed001's Note - one of the other editors keeps bigging up Dyer, simply because he knows him, but he does look a decent player, I would put him way ahead of Sinclair if it was me looking at them. Sinclair has too much of an attitude for my liking, though he might have been brought down a peg or two since leaving Chelsea. Both would certainly be attainable in the summer, highly unlikely either will be allowed to leave before then though, Swansea need them too much right now.}

Ed001, if Swansea were to get relegated, and we were to put in a bid of say £15m what would be our chances of getting them, as Sinclair has got 18 months to run on his deal and Dyer i think signed a new deal in the summer. it would inject pace and creativity in our side which is what we badly miss. Thanks

BigD {Ed001's Note - if they get relegated, which is looking unlikely right now, then there would be every chance of getting at least one of them.}

Being from Neath, I have been to the Liberty on numerous occassions, and would much rather we signed Dyer over Sinclair. Sinclair is far too inconsistant and drifts in and out of games. With the ball at his feet he's good, but his runs and movement off the ball are non existant. I have been impressed with Dyer everytime i've seen him. Also I like the look of Matt Jarvis.

Tommy Walsh

Agree Ed, Dyer is looking a good player in the Prem and importantly seems to be improving to. Seems a lot better value and a lot less risk than a lot of names that are mentioned on here.
That said and done KK reiterated this weekend that he is not intending to do much buisness this January so I actually doubt we will get anyone in except some more youth players.
RNred

BigD, they've got some really good loan deals sorted out. The best one of which is the young lad McEachran from Chelsea. I don't think they'll go down mate.

You got to love the way Swansea play football.. If you were picking the panel in a few years of possible manager to replace Kenny would Brendan Rodgers be on your shortlist ed?

Corkpoolred {Ed001's Note - as it stand right now, yes he would have to be in the running.}

What's happened to Owen Coyle though ?
He was touted on here as a possible LFC manager for the future.

Hello Eds,
There has been tonnes of rumours flying around as you all know, and also alot of rumours that we will sign nobody or maybe just a youngster (Inter Milan player as we've been informed kindly by Macca.)

On that note, is it possible that none of us, and yes even you guys dont know anything due to Liverpool FC not leaking anything at all? I'm really hoping thats the case as we are not in a crisis but we are slipping further and further away from the CL places and are in desperate need of some match winners, especially with the tough games coming up!

Would love to see a goalscorer, winger and defensive midfielder as downing hasnt lit up anfield, lucas and spearing are injured and charlie adam cant tackle, or run for that matter, and carroll couldnt hit a barn door...

Thanks RedHawk {Ed001's Note - it is the case that it is very difficult to get anything out of Anfield at all. We have to get it from the other end of deals, luckily most clubs aren't so watertight and agents and players even less so. But it does make it difficult to find out anything far in advance of a move being made, these days it is when we enquire or bid we know about it.}

Thanks for the reply, gives abit of understanding on the matter, I guess its possible that we could have a shortlist drawn up, hopefully some news soon! Cheers Ed

ED's was our link with santi corzola rubbish? Did he not want to leave spain when he went to malaga?
watched him last night and he was a class above exactly what we need. also young lad called isca looked the part....Have we missed the boat on another class act or was corzola a non starter?
dave {Ed001's Note - another one thinking of getting a Euro place, it is very difficult to get near the Spain team unless you play in Spain. Plus Malaga have a lot of money to spend, they are hoping to compete right at the top end of La Liga in future.}

Hi eds

Just want to know if Suarez is still training with the team, can't he play for the reserves to keep sharp or is he having a break. How is Lucas doing with his recovery?

Zoula {Ed001's Note - he can play with the reserves, but he was given some time off to recharge his batteries and then he will just train with the first team until his return. The reserves don't really offer competitive football these days, it is not really worth the risk of him playing there.}

I'm just wondering whether Liverpool would release Stuart Downing in February for my new England 6 nations rugby union squad?

I have noticed that when attempting shots at goal, Stuart strikes the ball beautifully, but invariably, and consistently, balloons it over the bar. I don't know if you are aware, from what I've seen you are probably aware of very little, this skill is worthless in football, but is much sort after for conversions and penalties in rugger.

With Jonny Wilkinson now retired, Stuart seems an ideal replacement, and lets face it, you're not going to miss him! I mean, with his primary job to find a decent cross for that plank Carroll, and with "the plank" normally being found fiddling with his ponytail whilst warming his piles on your bench, I think this is a win win situation!

I mean, even when you are desperate and you bring "the plank" on, you take Stuart off (very astute)!

Thanks for your consideration

Lots of Love

Stuart Lancaster, England RU coach.
C/O Sir Alex x

PS I would also have loved to take Charlie Adam as well, as we need a bit of added flab and facial ugliness in our scrum front row, but I believe he doesn't qualify for England!

Well, you obviously peaked at Christmas. That was crap.

Alex you just forked out 2 mill, for Darren Gibson mate. You have the audacity to try and give us banter, about our players? Lol

I've never posted much but I do still check the site and I must say there isnt much reference to KK, or the 'King' thesedays. You are a fickle lot lol.

My point is I think many are missing the point. kenny was brought in to stabliise the club, unite the fans, the board, the players. I think he's done that but as fans our expectations are naturally too high. I think we bought players to get us into 4th and we're still in with a shout. Yeah Carroll and Downing havent produced yet.. I dont think any of us really saw that coming but Adam and Henderson have done enough for me.

I do feel Kenny's tactics and team selections could be questioned though all managers get it wrong. When we beat Chelsea last season we were calling him a genius.

We're doing ok with what we have and with a another striker we can be in with a shout for 4th. Look where we where this time last year. We're all too far ahead of ourselves panicing about what will happen if we don't get 4th.. the reality is it might be next year so calm down everyone. We're fine.

Ok aint good enough for liverpool with the money spent.

A heartfelt appeal it would seem to try and appease fans who are disappointed with the general performances of certain players throughout the campaign.
Yes, your point is noted and considered.
However, consider that with our present form (7th place, sorry that is just cr#p, in lieu of what was spent). To say "were fine" might smack of sarcasm or indeed pure naivity. The truth is 7th is not fine, we are badly placed. Further with no Champs League football next year (potentiall) how do you expect the club to attract world class players (we have been out of the Champs League for a few years now, and without bringing in quality players (not the average 'joes' we have recruited) this cycle will continue. The teams above us have all improved, and the top 4 or 5 will strengthen their squads further. Wake up and smell the coffee, mediocrity is never something to be applauded.

Hi eds great site-
Rumours of defoe heating up. As a long time observer of liverpool and kenny, i would say do not expect him or even bent. Kenny opts for youth. If he was to spend 10mil on defoe, he might as well recall joe cole who is doing superb. Expect someone of the suarez mold this january.

Maybe defoe and someone in the suaerz mould as well who knows unless you work within team anfield

How reliable is KopTalk. They seem to think that both Carroll will be offloaded, probably in the summer and also that Commoli is interested in resigning torres, and torres himself if interested?

Are they a reliable source?

Judging from what they are saying,
I would say they are not a reliable source.

Not very reliable!

Its easy to check their history.

Well they said about zaha which has proved to be true, also about defoe which appears to be true along with a few others so you could call it reliable but the ed's will prob tell you otherwise as it appears they hate Koptalk lol {Ed001's Note - why don't you write down a list of all the players they have linked the club with and tell us a percentage of how many they got right then?}

Hi Ed,

Just wondered, are you disapointed we didnt swoop for Frank Sinclair whilst he was avaliable? Hes only 40 and fits in well with NESV's policy.. Im sure a "big money bid" could tempt Colwyn Bay into selling... Check out his spectacular (own) goal callabiration on youtube, its superb.

Adzii

40? fits with NESV poilicy? I know thats a typo, lol, he does seem like a good player tho from what i've seen on MOTD, but i cant take MOTD as a serious way to judge until i've seen a full few games, but he does look like he has energy to burn

Carb {Ed002's Note - He was always a cheerful sort at Chelsea and a couple of really great own goals.}

Jermain Defoe & Darren Bent, get them in! Guarenteed goals.

You know what mate i can see where your coming from , I'll admit neither one would be first choices for me but they would score goals and know our league inside out

16 Jan 2012 10:07:49
Not a rumour, just an observation: If we do happen to sign (César) David Texeira (Torres), please will someone at LFC tell him to use 'Torres' on his shirt so we can change the words and bring 'the bounce' back? Much as I love Luis' song, I really miss that. Plus it would be a great slap in the face to that freckly little ho at (die laughing) "big club" Chelsea.

16 Jan 2012 10:07:35
Why oh why do we take Downing off and put Carroll on? Surely the only way Carroll can make an impression is from crosses coming in from the wing. Agree?

And Bellamy !

16 Jan 2012 10:07:26
If i were the owners i would be telling KD he needs to get his players in form rather than worrying about bringing in new players. Henderson, Downing, Kuyt, Maxi, Carroll & Adam have all failed to match expectations. Get them firing and we climb the table because i believe they are all good players. For this reason I don't expect any fancy signings during January

Hi! Eds please post in banter for just a bit of relief from all the stress.
If this was Barcelona's team would they still be the best team in the World? I think they would which just illustrates how close we are or how far away depending on how you look at it? to having a great team. What Barca/Liverpool line up would you have?

Morning Guys,

Just thought i'd pass on a message that Liverpool are keeping it water tight from the players regarding transfers. So i would seriously question anyone that says "that they heard from a player we are signing such and such"..
I no its probably been said on here but i jus wanted to back it up..

If we were to loan Carroll out then:

1. What do we gain from loaning him out.

2. He needs to get use to playing the way we play not the way another team does.

So is it really necessarily to loan him out, i would put him in the reserves, simple reason he is not match fit in my opinion and needs to learn how to pass and move rather than rely on crosses, by playing in the reserves he would therefore have a run of successive games and hopeful get his confidence back.

Eds your fughts plz.

BigD {Ed001's Note - fully agree, unless he was to go on loan to another Prem team playing in the same style, it would just be a pointless move.}

It would depend why you were loaning him out. If it was to come back more adapted to our style then I agree with Ed, but if it was to preserve/increase his market value with a view to a sale, then he should go to a team that will play to his strengths.

Ash

Thanks for your opinion ed001. & great work you & your fellow eds are doing on here.

BigD

Ash:

Carroll will come good however as you said if it were to sell him on then i think he would be a hit at Spurs as they put a lot of crosses into the box and arry wanted him b4 he joined us, but i don't see Carroll going anywhere anytime soon

Just an opinion when Kenny was buying players in the summer he was thinking quantity and not quality. That's what Liverpool are lacking in the final 1/3 just that extra bit of quality. I'm sure if that signing was made they'd be right up there where my team Spurs are now.
Hopefully things change got a soft spot for LFC.

14 x were sold, 6 x out on loan since Jan 2011.
With only 9 x in, so you're argument doesn't stack up does it ?
The Real KB

@ The Real KB was never really a arguement, not sure how you can claim players like El Zhaar and Degen could be considered squad players. All it takes is 1 signing and it could kick start Liverpool's season easily!

16 Jan 2012 09:44:24
Liverpool do not have the players to play the tactics they are playing.

And I'm not talking about formation. They are passing the ball way too much between defence and midfield. This gives teams time to regroup and pack the defence.

We do not have a Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Fabregas that can unlock a tight defence. Suarez is our only player who can do it with tricks and not a pass to set someone through one on one. Gerrard cannot. He is a world class player who operates superbly on a quickly move foward.

I'm sure Daglish and co are aware of this but things need to change quick as I don't see us getting the players we need. I honestly thik we have the players we need if we play quicker football. By all means kill the game when we're 2 up.

Lets not kill the game to a slow pace when its 0-0 against poor teams and hope for a goal.

My suggestion just in case KK is listening:) Without suarez as our current situation is.

Reina
Johsnon Agger Skrtel Enrique

Spearing Gerrard Adam

Downing Carroll Maxi

Everyone knows off the ball is as important as on the ball.

We attack 4-3-3. downing and maxi are strikers that pull wide for an option but also get in the box. ie. Dowing has the ball on the right, maxi is getting in at the back post and vice-versa. Gerrard is an attacking midfielder in the 3. He joins as many attacks as possible getting to the edge of the box for a shot or in the box also if he feels like it. Its about time all this minus 15 mill talk about Carroll stops. Carroll needs an arm around the shoulder and tatics that will help his cause. Tell Carroll that Liverpool paid 35 mill for him because at the time Carroll was playing like a 35 mill pound striker and that we need him to play like that again. In my tactics, Carroll is not there to build up play. He is there to finish. He plays off the defenders terrorisng them. If we're attacking his only job is to be in the box. Just be there. All the time to finish things. I don't want to see him out of the box and I only want to see him trying to tackle defenders when they are playing it around the back. I do not want to see him helping out the defenders and midfielders defending. Not your job. I don't even want him defending corners. PS. Bellamy can be swapped in rotation for downing or maxi. Main thing is when we get the ball we attack and pass with pace.

Next defence. When the oppostition get the ball, depending of the left or right hanside, either maxi or downing will drop back from striker to left or right midfield and the central midfielders shift accordingly. For example. The left back on dowings side wins the ball, Downing will push high up the pitch but if its passed by him he now leaves it and stays in an attacking position. Maxi by now will have slotted back to wing. Spearing who is operating more defnsively slots to the right wing to defend, Adam who is also back shifts right to cover rcm. Gerrard who may have been attacking has time to go back into LCM and Spearing and Adam should put enough pressure on to slow a crossfielf pass.

Thus in that situation. We would be in a formation like thus.

Reina
Johnson Agger Skrtel Enrique

Spearing Adam Gerrard Maxi

Downing Carroll

If the RB on the opposition gets the ball the opposite happens. Maxi will remain striker and downing drops back.

It is important when we win back the ball that Gerrard joins as his supposed to, Maxi goes back up the field to act as a striker/Aml and gets in the box if the ball is on the opposite wing.

Adam/Spearing have a big reponsibilty as they will be the playmakers to pass the ball quickly and effectively (heres looking at you Adam) to Gerrard/Downing/Maxi. One of these gets the ball, other 2 get into scoring positions. I like to see gerrard hanging somewhere around the edge of the box. Either dowing or maxi getting in the box if the other one has the ball. Carroll is already there waiting to score and become the 35 million pound striker he is meant to be.

I know its easy to be a sideline manager but with the players we got, I think these tactics would work excellently. Our current tactics do not.

Suarez will replace Downing/Maxi/bellamy when he comes back. Carroll stays. Very important part to play in tactics.

I'm a bit dissapointed that last season under Kenny we were playing these tactics. I remember when a cross came in 3-4 players were in the box. Attacks were quick. Somewhere along the line tactics changed and not for the better. Its time to change back.

PS. I absolutely think Kenny is the man for the job. Just think tactics are all wrong at the moment. Players are fine. Would add Podolski and Hoilett if available but tactics are the main thing I would change.

I'm sure everybody has trailed off by now so I'll put a big statement (even if slightly false) at the end to make people read.

DO THIS AND WE WILL WIN THE TITLE. GAURENTEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a load of old tosh Gerrard unlocked many defences with a ball into Torres however who do we have that hit a ball out of the air or take one touch and put the ball in the net from a gerrard pass - Anwser - No one. Suarez is wasteful in front of goal Kuyt confidence is shot and Carroll well that just beggars belief.

Quick, someone get him the Manager's job!

People are talking as if we should be challenging for the title! Wise up.
Yes we have had some disappointing home results - tehre are 5 of the 7 games you would have expected full points. That's 10 points which would have had us in a stronger position.

But we have still improved from last year. A lot. The new players are playing well and fitting in and even wee Jay Spearing is playing his heart out. Our defence is pretty solid as well. And we have some decent strikers but another established one would be helpful.

We just need to have more conviction in front of goal. Our general play is fantastic to watch (albeit need to sustain for full 90 minutes). More conviction, more belief will mean more goals which will mean more points.

We are doing OK. Keep supporting. Stop criticising.

Who said anything about the title ?.We all want top 4,if u believe having home draws against teams like stoke,blackburn,norwich,swansea and sunderland are good enough than maybe you should wise up

Lets face it was never going to hard to improve on last year

5 shots at goal againt STOKE in 90 mins, and the best chance (kuyts header) went well wide!!
its not just in front of goal ,its now the final 3rd!!
yes i agree we score 1 and walk away with 3pts , its a diffrent story, but the fact is teams are now coming to Anfield ,knowing we we cant score and can be got at!!

play maker /winger/ and a 6yard goal striker please!

I am sick to death of everyone saying "Adam, Downing, Henderson and Carroll are rubbish" and "we should stop buying British players" because it is simply unreasonable.

Although Adam has not been as good as he was at Blackpool he has been passing like a pro and his long range shots create havoc.

Downing has not been great so far, but he is a player who is quick and is working hard. He has only been at LFC for half a year of course.

Henderson is young and is being forced to play deeper than he is used too. Anyway from watching him I have thought he shows great talent.

Carroll has been disappointing but I have never seen a better rifle left foot in my years. He is young remember.

Finally British players have produced some of Liverpools best players including Gerrard, Carra and Johnson.

I truly believe that half of the people rubbishing our players did the same with Lucas, Carra and even Suarez over his finishing. And that isn't supporting liverpool, thats rubbishing Liverpool.

I agree. His set pieces were superb for Blackpool - he has done ok though in general play. Up front is the problem. (there isn't one)

If he improved his set pieces he would be the complete package for what we got him for. His long passing was actually spot on against Stoke however we could do nothing with it as we didn't have strikers flooding the box when needed. With a bit more creativity in front of Adam in the final 3rd you will see the best of him

hi guys great website. We have been lacking pace and there is no one in the Liverpool team who can run fast and assist. I know that we need a striker but, in my opinion we should have got aaron lennon. He was being linked with us in the previous transfer windows but, for some reason rafa or kenny did not get him. But instead we get players such as downing, carroll, adam and henderson (who all don't have pace and overrated). Also instead of buying carroll, we could have got aguero for the same price. What do u think guys?. Thanks and YNWA

Looking at the league at the midway point of the season I can firmly say it isn't good enough. A few weeks ago we had the chance to really get a grip on 4th spot and that hasn't happened. We are a good team but I'm having trouble understanding our tactics. I cant see how the owners will be happy with our league position with the money we have spent. I hope I'm wrong but if we have a bad feb against rivals then Kenny is a goner.

Gazman

This site has become a forum for moany part time fans who seem to take great joy in any poor performance or result. I feel sorry for the eds, especially the Reds fans amongst them for having to read ALL of the drivel. Real Liverpool fans know what this club is all about and understand what we need to do as supporters. Some of the rubbish written by 'fans' on here makes me sick and embarrassed that they associate themselves with Liverpool.

Milamber

What's the difference between sitting in 7th under Roy Hodgeson or sitting in 7th under Kenny Dalglish? In my opinion fans like you are complacement - I defended Kenny only a week or two back but the top 4 is slipping away mate.

Put it this way, Real Madrid managers are sacked sometimes when they WIN the league, let alone languish in upper mid table. I've supported Liverpool for 34 years mate before you start slinging your insults...

Was the Stoke performance good enough? I can't listen to the unlucky mantra anymore - it has happened too often. With Utd spurs and Everton in Feb - Aresnal and Bolton Away - can you see us really challenging for a champions league spot because I can't. I was a massive Benitez fan - he should never have been sacked after one poor season. The man won the champions league under massive turmoil and duress at the club - why he was sacked I will never understand. I love Kenny Dalglish - he is a legend - if we challenge for the 4th spot then il be right behind him - If we Finnish 7th then he has to go. We are behind an Aresnal team who are the worst Aresnal team in prem history. We are behind a Newcastle team who - with due respect - we should be 10 points clear of - no?

How can you rest easy and watch mediocrity mate? 3 years without champions league football is long enough for this club. Maybe you are happy but I'm not.

Gazman

Couldn't agree more with Milamber.I don't know what people were expecting this season but we are only 5 points behind Chelsea in fourth and i for one think top 4 this year would be an amazing improvement on last season.We fans are in danger of getting a reputation for complaining all the time and thats never been the way of REAL Liverpool fans.

Couldn't agree more with Gazman. If I had told you at the start of the season that after 21 games we were behind Newcastle, and an Arsenal team that had lost Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy, the majority of fans would not have been pleased!

Ash

Afternoon Ash, Gazman
Other than the moneybags, Chelsea and City, the other two teams that have consistently achieved CL status is Arsenal and Utd. Both of whom have the longest-serving managers in the Prem.
Stability lads. That is the key.
We just can't write off another takeover and £100m + and start again.
With a different manager, with different aims and ways to go about it.
How can you fail to see that ?
I am utterly bamboozled by people wanting to do that.

Just one to throw out there but.......Why have we always been oh so slow in bringing our youngsters in....We did have a spell that brought us a certain Gerrard and his pals but this last few years weve been really slow at letting them have a real go.....I know some will come on here and throw up Kelly and Flanno but seriously....Theyre not even involved that much anymore....
We also as fans seem to be the only fans in England that keep saying lets not get them in yet theyre not ready!.........granted Sterling is a touch small and some of the others maybe dont look ready but I do know one thing, Ferguson would have given them a look before now, he'd have had a look at Sterling he'd have had a look at Morgan, He'd have had a look at Ngoo, Silva and Wisdom by now just to see how they fared.......
Now...Im not saying all these are the answer and im not saying all these need throwing in, but surely the way one or two arent quite cutting it right now especially in attacking positions we could do with a freshen up.........Are you really telling me an unknown like Toni Silva wouldnt be better having a crack at it right now than Downing?......lets face it we'd have nothing to lose, its not always playing a player constantly that gets them fired up to play, sometimes a stint on the bench and akick up the arse is whats needed, bringing one or two in at least on the bench might frighten a few on big money to buck their ideas up..........All i keep hearing is these lads arent ready but theyve got to start somewhere and at between 17 and 19 they should be able to cope well enough.......I for one am a big fan of starting Shelvey, i think he brings a lot and wants to play for the badge, id have him in like a shot......Come on KK give one of these boys a look....it cant be any worse....Can it?............The Guv. YNWA JFT96

It's what other big clubs use the League Cup for? Having a look at the youngsters.
There was no need to play Lucas in League Cup game at Chelsea? look what happened out for the season, Agger and Spearing injured? league cup again.
Suarez,Reina,Agger,Enrique,Gerrard,Lucas,Skyrtle, Adam and Johnson should not have played in any League Cup games.
Think we would certainly have more League points. We at Liverpool fc should not put any Cup competition before the league. Birmingham won it last year got totally sidetracked and ended up relegated. We are now getting sidetracked by the same competition and it's costing us players and league points.

Kidmillions,
Kenny took on a club in crisis mate. His aim was to turn things around, bring stability, revamp the squad, bring a smile to people's faces, start playing decent football and winning matches.

Will any of our reserve players be going out on loan in jan? Why haven't Eccleston, Morgan, Coady, Wisdom or Silva not even made the bench in the carling cup this year? So we are 10 points better off? and 2 points better of in the corresponding fixtures? And what exactly is your point? That we are a better team now? I agree. ;)

The corresponding fixtures were after Roy left & Kenny took over. The 10 points we have gained over last year is good but i would admit it should be a hell of a lot more.

I think u are all missing the fact that spurs and man city have improved massively and we havent ... altho we have more points at this stage than last year, so do the clubs above us! bad times at present, however we continue to support becos we love the club. we are missing that creative spark and the likes of henderson, downing, adam, coates, carroll are not world class so we cannot expect them to become world class. just becos people state true opinions it doesnt mean that we dont and wont support our club. it just means we are honest and realistic!

Post this Ed, copied from teixiara wiki In January, he was transferred to Kedah F.A. for undisclosed fee - presumably, kedah wanted to exchange Andy Carroll for him, but his "previous team" said they wanted at least some kind of compensation for signing him, which consisted of: Steven Gerrard , Daniel Agger , Martin Skrtel and so on. But they could not make an agreement, so Liverpool FC paid the fee of £45 according to the media, thus making David the costliest uruguayan player ever. He hasn't made his debut yet, but still has more goals scorred for the club than the member of the, as it was named after the previous winters transfer window, "atomic duo" Andy Carroll, 90% of them being scorred with head, and the other 10% with his left foot.
Some one has a sense of humor.

It now says he plays for Welsh Club Everton FC from the record sale of Maroune Fellaini to Real Madrid! LOL

Thanks, KickingBro

On wiki he is playing for everton now

Luuk De Jong & Esteban Granero To Sign For Liverpool This Transfer?

I Have Watched Videos For Them Both And They Both Look Top Class! Just What We Need.

I watched a video on youtube of Andriy Voronin before he signed for Liverpool and thought he looked class... Youtube can make any player look good, its not an ideal place to judge a player in fairness.

So your saying Voronin is not Class ;)

And Rafa could make any good striker play shyte... bar Torres. Perhaps that was where the problem with Voronin lied.

I dont think kenny or commolli buy players based on youtube searches! and people that love football dont watch small 30 sec youtube clips to determine somebodys ability, they do thorough research!

Not about who might be coming in. No one seems to know anyway. Just wondered if there had been any talk about young players going out on loan? I would love to see someone like Sterling go out on loan to Swansea.

Fun game to try - I want your opinions.

If you was the creator of Fifa or you could edit the players overall rating what would Liverpool's team be in your opinion?

In my opinion:

Reina; 85

Johnson; 80
Kelly; 80
Coates; 77
Carragher; 77
Skrtel; 82
Agger; 82
Jose Enrique; 83

Downing; 80
Lucas; 83
Gerrard; 86
Henderson; 80
Adam; 80
Maxi; 81

Kuyt; 77
Suarez; 87
Carroll; 79
Bellamy; 82

Feel free to add, just thought it would be a fun topic. Please post in banter eds ;)

Thanks, KickingBro

{Ed001's Note - are the FIFA ratings purely on ability? If so, Johnson would have to be a little higher, his ability is top class, it is his concentration that lets him down.}

On ability. You have to remember as a RB he isn't defensively great. If he was a RW in the game i'm sure he would be 82-83.

Thanks, KickingBro

Reina; 85

Johnson; 82

Henderson; 80
Adam; 79
Maxi; 80

Kuyt; 78

Reina; 88

Reina - 86
Doni - 76

Johnson - 80
Kelly - 77
Carragher - 79
Agger - 84
Skrtel - 82

Eds
Is it Kalou for the KK sight? 3m for 26 year old forward even winger. Should be a best buy. {Ed001's Note - except that he is a terrible player.}

If anyone wants a laugh, read this about David Texeria: In January, he was transferred to Liverpool FC for £12.2m . He made his debut on 25th January 2012 against Manchester City and scored his first goal with the new club against Manchester City in the 2011–12 League Cup.

I wish I could tell the future like the person who edited the page. Oh, and apparently he wears number 9, Carroll out? Obviously it's just someone spouting lies but the persons imagination must be pretty impressive.

Alex

But they failed to mention City won the second leg 5-1, with a hat-trick from new signing Wayne Rooney and a brace from Peter Barnes, who was coaxed out of retirement by new City boss, Simon Cowell.

Funny story on wikipedia but Liverpool are actually considering a move for this player.

so let me guess , chelsea are going to buy hazard and who are we going to buy ? hoillett , bent , another no name ? i feel sorry for steven gerrard because the lad deserves to win the title more than anyone in the whole premier league and yet he's nowhere near the title , even tottenham who were nowhere about 3 years ago are closer to winning the title... i dont know whats kenny's agenda because in my eyes all the players we bought in the summer transfer window apart from adam and bellamy have flopped badly , you can just see that liverpool had no chance in scoring , its agonizing to watch!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So, mr unnamed poster?
Your comment about Spurs being nowhere 3 years ago, and now they're contenders COMPLETELY buggers your argument.
Oh but i forgot, they signed the likes of Ronaldo, Xavi, Iniesta and Ibrahimovic didn't they? No they f****n' didn't!

Let's see where we are in 3 years. Above spurs, of that i am sure.

Red7.

Total and utter rubbish, you mr anonymous are a complete tw*t, yes stevie does deserve so much more 4 everything hes given 2 LFC, but to say all summer transfers are flops, so im guessing you think enrique is also in that catergory, where here in the real world hes probably the best LB in the league, Hows about getting behind the team and giving your support like the rest of us...............

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

Don't dump your frustration on the name of Steven Gerrard. You don't feel sorry for him, you feel sorry for yourself because 'your team' hasn't won the league or signed the latest big name, doing the rounds. It's not all plain sailing and Istanbuls; so get over it and don't make out it's not all about you; which it is and this is your real problem.
Rigsby.

Adam is crap a mid table player

Tottenham made good buys and now have a better first team than we do, how can you argue with 7th in the league, stop blind faith. Yes mos of our signings have been flops.

Tottenham have, over a good few seasons now, going back to Jol's time. They have built well, gradually, and without breaking the bank. Look where it's got them now.
That's the lesson mate.
The Real KB

Im anon and a different one(though regular)than poster.I dont put name on,cos ild wana t t insulting b ds like you red4life.Cant you be constructive and not insulting?!

Just stating facts for some people, rumours of Fernando Llorente for £20 Million are probably far off the mark, I can't see him moving until the summer mainly cause of the Euro's and with Real Madrid hovering over him I doubt he will pick us over Real, basically the story in the press is probably recycled from the summer. Rumours of Higuian and Ozil are rubbish along with Suarez to Real Madrid, Suarez has stated that he wants to play out his 5 year contract and perhaps extending it as well, he fitted very well in Liverpool, the racist row has not put Suarez off EPL but made him more determinded to be even more of success at Anfield.

Now for some transfer that are more realistic. Defoe name keeps popping up over the past couple of days. Harry has repeatedly said he does not want to sell Defoe but with Defoe wanting to go to Euro's he needs first team football, which Harry cant ensure him of. Player I want us to buy is David "Junior" Hoilett, young, fast and trickery. Something that we are desperately asking for, not sure if we want him but for £5-8 million he is a bargain and ticks all the boxes.

Eds what you think?

Scottay {Ed001's Note - I would rather buy no one than buy Defoe.}

Think you Ed IMO we have a new and very young team it may take a year or so for them to gel but were heading on the right path
