Have to say I'm disappointed with how we've conducted ourselves with inter.

It's not the first time either as Fiorentina were not pleased with our dealings over a previous transfer either.

Why do we seem to believe (at a systemic level from execs right down to players and fans) that we are so much better than other teams? Our arrogance and lack of humility is staggering at times.

The kovacevic deal is not dead, but it is certainly less likely than a few days ago, a deal can and (in my opinion) will be struck but we need to drastically improve our relations with other teams.

We just don't seem to get it right, ever.
We bid ridiculously over inflated prices for English based players - Carroll, Downing, Adam, Lallana, Lovren, Lambert, Allen, Henderson
Then we 'low ball' foreign teams for good players.

Is there someone negotiating deals at our club who has a problem distinguishing euros and pounds sterling?
Mr Ayre may very well be a marketing whiz kid, it's certainly what his original mandate was and the club has improved greatly in that area, but I wonder if he has the transfer negotiating skills.

Kovacic is over. Let that ship sale :(

As for the club. We have always payed over the odds and been charged more for who we are, absolutely no doubt about iT. Maybe it is time we started getting harder and saying to these clubs, this is what we will pay end of.

The prem suffers for excess charges on players that other clubs don't especial in there own countries.

Palermos president said he wanted more than 40mil for DDybala, when the prem was interested but he goes to juvenile for 21 mil. Vidal was 15 mil for Barcelona but would of been about 20/25 fir the prem. Clubs want to cash.in because they know how much we make through TV and sponsorships etc. Enough is enough.

The one that always get to me was the negotiations with dempsey. It was clear that we NEEDED an attacking player and we decided to play hard ball with fulham and tried to tap the player up which pissed fulham off leading to fulham selling to Spurs on deadline day sheerly because of our arrogance. In hindsight you could argue maybe it was good that we didn't get him because if we had we may not have signed sturridge in January, but the club still knew we needed a forward badly and they messed it up

I agree with the points made above, I think sometimes we rely too heavily on our history of our club sometimes when trying get players, like a player would join solely for the history we have. I think its a problem that has crept into the club, players and fans over the last 10 years. I used be able feel I could boast having the best fans in the world, the best atmosphere in any ground, but i feel since the information age we have lost sight of what our club stood for going back to Shanks and before that. We have a bad performance and we take to the forums to call for the managers head, or this player isn't good enough. While these are valid points, I don't think it helps as much as we think. I still see BR getting trashed on here on a daily basis, I agree he has shown allot of naivety and has made some silly decisions, I don't think wanting him sacked will help, especially now the club have said he is staying. Get behind your team and stop wanting change of managers every 2 seconds, if Klopp came in and we failed finish 7th, would the fans call for his head too? I don't feel I can even boast having the best fans in England nowadays, this season showed that for me, we had such an awful season, and the fans were all over BR wanting him sacked, then we went 12 games unbeaten and everyone was singing his praises again, then we finished the season poorly and everyone wants get rid of him again. We have become too fickle and impatient.

I don't have the luxury of going week in week out to the games being the other side of the Irish sea, as some fans are lucky enough to go to the games so I rely on those fans to do the chanting I do from the other side of the screen.
I remember the first time I was in Anfield back in 2007 and the atmosphere was just incredible, but watching on tv this year, sometimes the atmosphere seemed dead, I know the players were not giving much to shout about, but did the players give us much to shout for at half time in istanbul? no, yet it was down to those fans who made that trip that made our dreams come true that night. Anyone who has been to Anfield this season can correct me if I am wrong there, but from watching on tv, definitely was below the high standards we as fans set, but for me, I feel we have lost the essence of what it means to be a Liverpool fan, the standards and morals that set us apart as the best fans in the world.

I look to Borrusia Dortmund as a prime example, Klopp had a similar season to BR, lost their key forward player and suffered hard for it, they spent most of the season in the relegation places, and finished 7th in a league allot poorer than the PL in my opinion. Yet the Liverpool fans want Klopp? but the fans never turned on Klopp, even when he announced he was leaving the club, they see him the same way we saw Shanks and Sir Bob and Joe Fagan and King Kenny, the list goes on. We were close to finishing 4th until the last few games really without a recognized striker all year, we finished on 62 points only 8 points off CL, so in theory we only need make up 8 points, if we spend wisely and get in the right players and a 20 goal a season striker I believe we can get way more than 70 points.

I do agree though with Redman96 that the PL suffers with over inflated fees from european clubs and especially with Liverpool I find, we always have to pay over the odds for sub par players. Whether this is the clubs fault, the managers who sign them, the scouts who found them i don't know. I think because we are Liverpool, is allot harder for players to adapt, they find this pressure on their shoulders to perform, and over the last 10 years, there have been allot more poor signings than good ones, or players who looked perfect on paper, but never materialized. that's just my 2 cents at 2.30am :P

{Ed001's Note - why do people keep comparing Klopp with Rodgers? There is no comparison, Klopp is a proven winner, Rodgers just talks about winning while actually winning nothing. Easy for the fans to get behind Klopp, he took Dortmund from a club in serious financial trouble nowhere near challenging, and made them a regular title challenger as well as picking up a couple of titles. If Rodgers had won as much as Klopp had, he would get more backing, even during the rough times.}

17 Jun 2015 07:02:18
My comment wasn't about the type or quality of players we go for but more about how we conduct ourselves. We just don't act professional at times and it is both embarrassing for us and infuriating for the other team. I dunno how we act when signing players from other teams but Italian teams are not especially keen on dealing with us.

17 Jun 2015 12:45:18
Ed01, i wasnt actually comparing klopp to BR. I was merely saying klopp and dortmund had a similar season to BR and Liverpool. Was well below the standards dortmund had set in previous seasons and us last season finishing 2nd. I am by no means BR's biggest fan, i find his team selections bewildering sometimes, and playing players out of position doesn't help sometimes. There is no denying thak klopp is a world class manager and one of a dying breed in my view who doesn't care about how much money he has each season but cares about the club he manages, i don't think any other manager could do what he did with dortmund, and got the best of his players, i'd die to see him in the liverpool hotseat. What he did with dortmund was outstanding, made them into a real force in europe and in germany without the financial might of bayern, i know the fans see klopp as a god becauae off where they was as a club when he took over. The point i tried make was, if liverpool spent as long as dortmund did in tbe relegation zone this season the fans wouldn't have stayed behind Rodgers, yet they did stay behind klopp. I understand that the fans would be happier had BR won something at least during his tenure, but the point i was trying to make was more about dortmund losing lewandoski and us suarez which both were major factors in how our seasons turned out.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - so you are comparing Klopp with Rodgers because you are trying to make out the fans are at fault for viewing them differently, even though you are also saying they are totally different. This just makes no sense. Rodgers has done nothing to deserve the fans' backing, he is done everything he can to make the club look a joke with his idiotic comments and is lucky to have anyone behind him at all. If he had Klopp's track record, then he might deserve leniency, but he doesn't. So your point is still nonexistent!}

18 Jun 2015 00:26:55
Comparing both by using Klopp's final season is just dishonest and stupid. Klopp has trophies and is proven while BR doesn't have a sausage to his name. There fixed it for you

Agree14 Disagree4

17 Jun 2015 02:17:29
No I haven't been under a rock - after Christmas we went on a 15 game run that saw us get back into the mix. We then got shown up against superior squads at the top end of the table. The end of the season was rubbish and cannot be excused - but don't the players actually kicking the bloody ball have any responsibility too ?!

Rodgers was praised for turning our season around after Christmas by many in the game for finding a way to win and we all enjoyed that run.

I am not saying that Rodgers shouldn't shoulder a large part of the responsibility for any failures, but he's our manager for now and we need to get behind him and the team to win. This constant negativity is getting me down man!!

Agree4 Disagree12

17 Jun 2015 06:58:22
Potclay, we were never in the mix, regardless of the unbeaten run. We may have gone unbeaten, but the actual performances during this run were the same as they were the whole season, poor. Regardless of how terrible people have viewed United's team and performances this season, we were worse. We didn't even look close to finishing top 4 this season, ever.

I have never nor will I ever understand our dealings in the transfer market. As we all know over the last couple of years we have lost out on numerous top players who have all gone on to be great players. At the same time we have managed to pick up one or two bargain basement players (Coutinho and Sturridge)

What really annoys me more than anything is Brendan Rodgers and his constant talk of strengthening and improving his squad with first 11 starters.

Given the amount of money he wasted last year on so called first team players (Can only) do you editors believe this is a reason FSG are being extra careful this summer in the transfer market?

Take Kovacic for instance he's certainly a £20 million pound player and is by far a better all round player than Sterling and yet if it is believed we are offering peanuts for his services and at the same time insulting Inter by trying to offload some of Brendan's poor buys in the deal.

I know our wage bill is huge and players like Balo Enrique Borini etc need moving on but for me Kovacic is a must buy and certainly a first team player ahead of the likes of Allen Lallana Markovic and Sterling so FSG should stop messing about before it's too late.

Just my opinion but I can sort of understand FSGs dilemma

Believable9 Unbelievable5

17 Jun 2015 00:19:27
I can't. They kept a failure in place and BR's making the same mistakes in the TW that he made last season as in, buying players we don't need. It's that cut and dry. They choked on getting Klopp or another manager to get us out of this mess. Where's the dilemma?

Agree6 Disagree0

17 Jun 2015 00:38:49
sorry to say i agree with Curled 1, what i cannot understand is this. every Red's fan and his dog have known for a very long time what players and positions needed sorting out, yet nobody at the club has addressed the obvious! why? good question, this buying young players cheap then hoping to sell them at a profit a couple of seasons later has not worked, we have needed a top striker since Suarez left, goalkeeper position was embarrassing last season and Rodgers, well it's all been said, is it any wonder top players don't want to come to play at Anfield.

Agree6 Disagree1

17 Jun 2015 00:30:11
use lose out on world class players because no one wants to play for a team who hasn't been at the pinnacle of the league for over 25 years.

when are you going to realise mediocre and average is now what you have become?

Edd001 can I ask what you think about our signings and the road we are taking because when I visit the page it's as if the players we have signed have transformed into top players when the reality is they are not going to improve us.
Man i'm fed up with the situation. Rodgers was a disaster last season and everyone but him have been sacked and we needed a top gk not to compete with mignolet but a first teamer such as cech. We also needed a top striker and midfielder. And not in any lifetime would have wanted the club would sign the 3 players we have to improve the first team we have. And to add our shocking defence looks as if nothing will change or anything is to be done to improve it significantly. This isn't 'abuse'. It's the reality of it. I just don't think it's acceptable what is happening and I might sound harsh but imagine what most fans will say when the season goes badly. There has been nothing so far carried out this summer or look to be as far as changing what happened last season.

Believable24 Unbelievable15

{Ed001's Note - Bogdan would be ok if we were a Championship team, but he is simply not good enough for a Premier League team.

Milner would be an excellent signing if we didn't have Henderson. I can only assume he is to replace Gerrard's experience and play out wide, as he is otherwise a complete waste of a signing.

Ings I have fears about, while he has ability, he is quick, but it is that lack of bottle he showed when he decided to stop taking Burnley's penalties in case he missed and sent them down that worries me. He also scored less than Austin in a side that was creating more chances than the truly awful QPR. We needed a top class goalscorer, we got a fairly decent striker instead.

I am worried because we are still not buying to replace the weaker links, we are just bringing in players. I get that we lost our back up keeper, but Mignolet is simply not good enough, so replace him and he can be the back up. We needed a striker, but Ings is not a lone striker anyway, he plays best with a partner, and we very rarely play two up top. The last thing we needed was a player like Milner, no matter how good he is, though I have no doubts he will work hard and play well. It is just that he is not needed and doesn't improve the team all that much. The only player we have targeted that is a clear step up over the players we already have is Kovacic and we messed about so much we might end up losing him.

The transfer policy of the club is imbecilic. No thought has been put into it, it is just like we are collecting midfielders, when we already have so many Rodgers attempted to field a team of them at the end of the season! At least we can go into the season with no expectations, because it will be a miracle if we get top 4 next year.}

Potatoe and Ed, brilliant posts. I have the very same fears as well and trust me, there are no miracles in footie or any sport. It's all about preparation and strategy with a direct goal and how to get there. If you fail to plan like we're doing, you are planning to fail as we will if we continue to screw up as we are. Like the Ed, only a severe turn of events will get us top four next season.

I concur OP and Ed001, Kovacic was the only potential signing I was excited about and it now seems we've gone and potentially ballsed it up. Though I was half expecting that to be the case. Trying not to get into the blame game but fsg has to take some responsibility here. The transfer committee and the brendan experiment has failed and clear and decisive leadership was required. I reiterate that we are regressing yet again and i fear it will not change until fsg sell up and we get in footballing owners.

I am not knocking their commitment to try and make the club successful, but i do question their commitment to understanding football and how we approach the running of this club. There is no point holding reviews if the fundamental issues are not addressed and improved upon. Our behaviour over transfers since they came has been shambolic yet the review has not looked at this.

No one takes responsibility and says hang on a minute, you have wasted the career of ilori but yet you want to spend another 3.5m on another young defender whose career you will also waste. Or bringing in bogdan who is 3rd choice at best in a prem club when people like begovic would have been available and an upgrade on our current keeper.

No expectations is about right I'm afraid and no confidence in the leadership of the club and a spineless sicophant of a manager at the helm. Not everyone will agree with all decisions made by organisations but they are getting it so clearly wrong and our stay away owners are not doing anything constructive to improve the situation.

16 Jun 2015 20:19:26
Eds,

What is the system of scouts that we use.

Do we have scouts that lives in all of the main countries round the world that have credible leagues or is it a case of a small team that are based in Liverpool and head off round the world looking at players.

Also how often is Rogers at games watching potential specific targets or does he depend mainly on his scouting network?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Typically there are a number of people that a club retains or employs regarding the "scouting" of players including a permanent Chief Scout and a perhaps a Head of International Scouting who all will report in to the club via a Director of Football or whatever. There is also be a guy who co-ordinates all of the reports and ensures that they go to the correct person. Obviously no one at the first team level is going to see or be interested in any reports related to kids so there is a hierarchy that deals with young kids, potential academy players up to the first team squad. There are then scouts retained by clubs in specific countries and/or areas of the world - France, South America, Adriatic & Old Eastern Bloc, Iberia etc.. On top of that there will be freelance scouts (often ex-referees and amateur club staff who will stay within their particular area of expertise and region). Once a player has been looked at a couple of times and reports reviewed, then someone from further up this chain will take a look. Eventually a chief scout will take a look, or if it is a potential first team player, then perhaps a coach or manager will take a look. Some clubs have advisors which include, taking one EPL side as an example, ex-managers.}

16 Jun 2015 21:33:36
I am slightly naive when it comes to things like this, so forgive my ignorance Ed002, but do you need qualifications to be a scout? I've always wanted to work in Football somehow, unfortunately injuries and genetics ruled me out of playing, even though I got offered a trial at Arsenal and Southampton at 12 years of age.

Scouting seems like something that could be interesting. Is there any info you could possibly pass on which would help?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, qualifications aren't necessary. At the lowest level they are typically folks involved with the local game - running teams, ex referees etc..}

16 Jun 2015 22:07:43
Hmm, what about in the Football League for example? Teams like Colchester or Portsmouth as an example. What would it take for someone to get that high up?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Again, they primarily work in their local areas with schools and Sunday league teams. And that happens even in the EPL where Southampton looks to all of Hampshire and some of Surrey, Berkshire and Wiltshire. Their scouts will work with locals folk.}

17 Jun 2015 05:51:19
LFC is the exception. Our Scouts just use a Sat Nav ad it has one destination saved in it - St Mary's stadium.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jun 2015 23:47:08
Yeah when I was 12, I went to this "soccer school" at a school near me, they had representation at this event from most of the Southern clubs, Southampton, Portsmouth, Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham as well as a lot of non-league sides too.

I know I may be asking too many questions and you're a very busy Ed at the minute, but if you wouldn't mind answering me one more question that would be great.

Which would be the most accessible route into this line of work? Is it as simple as just putting yourself out there, or is it more about your previous footballing experience?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is going to be previous experience at a local level. These people don't usually work for specific clubs. At a higher level some are ex-players.}

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jun 2015 20:22:57
Sterling won't evoke the Webster Ruling !
He can, in theory, buy out the remaining term of his contract, yes.
But presuming that Liverpool and the other club (eg City) cannot agree sufficient compensation ie Liverpool ask for £50m and City £25m, the case would go to Tribunal and be mired in delays and legal wranglings.
There have been no high profile cases of Webster transfers in recent years, that I am aware of, for this very reason.

Liverpool will either sell at an acceptable price, or they won't. Sterling would have to lump it, in the latter scenario.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jun 2015 21:29:14
That is, if Sterling has a specific clause in his contract (and I am assuming it would be pretty much standard on any contract over 3 years in length now, ed ? to counter this type of thing) whereby any compensation received by Liverpool would not just be the value of his outstanding contract but for "harm" suffered - both parties (seller and buyer) would have to agree what that harm is, in cold £ notes. Not easy to establish and could be protracted and costly.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Nothing to do with the contract.}

16 Jun 2015 22:49:48
If sterling goes I don't think we need to replace him. We already have loads of talented attacking mids/fwds Coutinho, lallana, markovic, Ibe, Sinclair who can't all get a game. Seeing as the club have wasted the chance to spend money on a top class gk ,they should invest any sterling money in a champion's league level striker (if any will come that is)

Kono is a money grabber which is why no club has gotten him yet. Now he wants to go to the Arse and wants 100k a week per the Daily rags. Yeah, good luck with that with the Arsene in charge. If 5 years ago when fsg took over they invested in 1 or 2 top quality players a season i guarantee we would be is a better position than we currently find ourselves in.again.

It will be another season of embarrassment under rodgers and ron is correct in saying that it will be that much harder to attract decent players the following season. I would argue its a problem we have to deal with now.

BR is a ditherer and an opportunist. Why? When things were going well, he took all the credit for using a system that he himself, doesn't believe in, proposed by Bielsa. Then when things went south suddenly, the assistants get the chop. So following that logic, shouldn't they be getting the credit and if so, what does BR actually do as it seems to only be a manager in name only? Thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2015 05:54:39
BR can't sack the assistants, that's not his remit. FSG / Mr Ayre would have had to agreed with this course of action. So either BR convinced them or they took the decision themselves. We will probably never know.

I have to say I'm quite pleased with the transfer work we've done so far. Little spend (compensation/wages etc) and 3 good squad players.
I still think we need another striker (assuming Borini, Lambert and Balotelli leave) but I wouldn't want Benteke. Does not suit our system at all and would be a waste of £30m.

I'd like to see the back of Skrtel and allow a potential partnership with Sakho/Lovren with Kolo/wisdom and Illori backups.
I feel we need a RB and terminate the manquillo loan.
Clyne or Sam Byram for me.

I think we'd be crazy not to snap Konoplyanka up on a free. Ideal signing for us and I find it strange how we can be willing to spend £12m+ on him 18mths ago but not jump at the chance of getting him for nothing. Especially when he's actually improved as a player!!

The only other major part of our team I'd change is the manager - Klopp in, but this has been done to death.

I don't like the negativity on this site about or transfers and impending transfers (Kovacic).

If this time next year, were in the same position then fair enough, you can say you're right. But until then, we need to get behind the team and the new players and SUPPORT them!!

Apologies for the long post, ed.

Well said Kopette- Milner is a really good signing, and he will be a more effective player in his first season for us than any of last summer's signings were in their first season.
I can't believe people are slagging him off before he's kicked a ball for us. Do they know that lots of City fans are gutted that he's going?
He has what all of our players seem to have lost over the last season- a big heart and plenty of guts, and he knows how to win. Oh, and he can play as well.

I think we should have a poll on who thinks Milner is a good signing, so that next season I'll know whose opinions are worth reading, and whose I will regard as b****cks.

16 Jun 2015 23:24:41
To be fair, I'm not slagging Milner off, I'm just saying I don't think he's going to improve our first 11.

People who mention Konoplyanka, that's all very well but we haven't signed him yet. We've signed a championship level goalie, a decent striker and Milner who's not what we needed.

As it stands, we have a dodgy keeper, two inconsistent centre backs in Lovren and Skrtel. We have Lambert and Balotellinin attack which won't scare anyone. An injury-prone, albeit class player, in Sturridge a kid from Belgium who is unproven and now Ings. Backed up by an idiotic manager. I can't believe I'm the only person who's seemingly not champing at the bit with those 3 signings. Come the end of the season, you will all be on here trashing the season and this summer's transfer window, unless something good happens before this season starts.

How on earth do you think we are going to challenge Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Chelsea for top 4 and silverware by signing Ings, Milner and Bogdan? I'm not even considering it, I'm just going to be supporting Liverpool out of love, but I'm not expecting anything better than 6-9th.

17 Jun 2015 00:47:01
Spasmith, you are very easily pleased with a backup championship goalie, a backup player that is no better than Hendo, Lallana, Can an Couts and a striker who is a bench option at best and who won't thrive playing on his own up top because BR won't play two up except Bielsa tells him to. Many on here are just happy with players coming in without even thinking of how such players will improve the first team, where they will play and if they are good enuff to get us over the hump. As for Kono, he's trouble and a greedy bloke due to no one having signed him yet even tho he's available on a free. Ibe and or Ojo with a better Marko would do nicely for me out wide.

However, he's not English and he only sat on the bench of a Bundesliga club and not a Championship one, so that's probably why our transfer committee didn't go for him.

Sorry to post two in (almost) rapid succession, but I meant to ask earlier: is Joe Gomez being considered as a CB or a RB? Seems to me he would be a fairly cheap squad option now that Johnson is gone, with a lot of potential, but not necessarily an upgrade on Manquillo.

Also a good replacement for Coates for likely the same price and less wages.

Mu question is this. What is going on that these players don't even appear to be considered and also. why apparently do We seem to be addressing areas which are not required (again). We need goals. lost our highest earner and again replacing seasoned players with potentially good players. when will We learn. We are Making the same mistakes all over again it seems!!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Unfortunately Liverpool can't consider and buy every player Craig.}

16 Jun 2015 16:05:43
Its not about buying every player, surely its about buying the right players. Last year after losing suarez. instead of prioritising someone to attempt to fill his shoes we sold a RB, loaned out another. and brought in a spanish Rb with no experience for a 2 yr loan. The clubs decision making doesn't inspire confidence. All teams are a blend of youth and experience. we are going for pure youth and potential. and praying it works out!

Agree9 Disagree0

16 Jun 2015 17:30:51
The thing is you don't know who the right players are until a couple of years after you buy them. Everything seems simple in hindsight.

We could of spent last years Suarez Money on Di Maria and Luke Shaw. At the time we'd have thought we'd done brilliantly, in hindsight we would have realised we'd wasted our money.

There's no such thing as a sure thing.

Sums up your agenda on hating the owners is pretty much all it does.

From the very beginning Ed002 has made it clear that Kovavic is happy to stay at Inter and if Inter could raise enough through selling Herenanes then they would do that instead.

How is that FSGs fault?

Agree10 Disagree6

16 Jun 2015 19:13:37
As I said Sean, if Kovaicic has been earmarked as a replacement for our former captain/ talisman, then FSG should pay what's necessary to do the deal. I'm sick of hearing about their ridiculous attempts at negotiation in trying to get half decent quality on the cheap. The arrogance is a joke.

Agree2 Disagree2

16 Jun 2015 19:57:47
Sorry Ozone, but from everything we've been told, the only conclusion any reasonable person can draw is that the owners have done as much as they feasibly could in terms of backing the managers- and more than most PL owners do.

Yes the sale of Suarez raised maybe £60m, but we spent twice that amount last summer on transfers, plus God only knows how much in agents fees, and all that despite having FFP issues hanging over the club.

It seems the senior management may be creating some negative impressions around Europe in our transfer dealing methods, and our player buying strategy for the last three years has frankly been a joke, but that's not down to the owners.

They did what good owners try to do- they put people in charge that they thought were competent, and they backed them financially. What else could they do? Do you think they should have spent 200m instead of 130m last summer, and risk major FFP penalties?

They saw Kenny throw away 120m on bang average players that we lost big money on in most cases (barring Henderson), and so obviously they felt they had to be bit more careful next time, hence the 3 months of dithering over buying Salah, when an 11m bid would have signed him within days.
(Either that, or there was a duty free shop that Ayre liked to visit in Switzerland- certainly I can't think of any other reason he would d*ck around for months flying back and forth on negotiations).
But last summer they gambled big again on new players, and guess what- they got burned again in most cases because their management let them down yet again and bought players we didn't need, whilst totally failing in their single most important job of last summer- to sign a top four quality striker.

For you to seriously think that the owners have been stingy over this last year makes me wonder whether you have some other personal agenda going on in your head, that is making you see these things with such a skewed view of reality, and a complete refusal to recognise facts- facts like 130 million pounds spent in last summer.
Oops, did I say the F word? Started getting a bit Rafa there, sorry.
Sorry mate, I cannot relate in any way what you are saying- and if I saw it written elsewhere I would suspect it was a Utd fan trolling.

If FSG pay 22 mil for Lallana, they've been robbed, if FSG don't stump up for Kovacic, they are being miserly. Meh. Miner and Ings for not much is great business. Not sure on Bogdan.
I suspect the reality is that we'd be singing a different tune if we'd got 4th. Real mistakes were Balotelli in hindsight, and failure to buy decent cover for Sturrige. If Sturridge had stayed fit I reckon we'd have had CL qualification.

My summer hopes :)

Our midfield will be strong if we get kovacic, also if/when sterling gos. kono to replace him. Use the money to get a good proven striker to play with sturridge and replace him when he's out.

Lucas to go unfortunately but you would hope that can would be suited to that role. Rossiter should also get the nod to come up to the first team and get experience with a few starts in the cups and sub appearances/cover when cans out or injured.

Lets hope rodgers sees the 3 at the back isn't what Liverpool need going forward. With a holding player he can still play the attacking football be wants, but just not have the back 4 open at every opportunity.

Joe allen should be sold. Free up more wages and get 5-10mil back in. he's hasn't improved at all and i could probably count on one hand the games where he has made a difference to the result or performance.

All the squad really needs is a right back, established/prolific striker added to what's already here. that's taking kovacic and kono as players also. A keeper would of been nice but bogdan will do a job hopefully.

Out with
Allen,Lucas, Borini, Balotelli ,Coates,Enrique,Jones,Gerrard :(
Johnston,Lambert,Aspas,Sterling,Manaquio
Yesil,Illori,Alberto
possibly others, how did they stockpile so many is what i would be asking!!

Ins

Ings, milner, origi, kovacic, kono, proven striker, right back and bogdan. have wisdom in the squad for cover of rb/cb

Far too many in my eyes but its what will in all likelihood happen if what's reported/expected gos ahead.

Would have a good core of young players to grow together. Top 4 should be attainable and with the size of squad- a good showing in Europe and cups.

A boy can dream 😎

As far as I know, LFC has no interest in Benteke, so cheer up.

Hi eds, I heard that we have been in contact with balazs dzsudzsak who I believe is a free agent as of July. I've also been told that we have bid for Solomon Rondon? are we interested? Or is this tripe?
Cheers

We were interested Dzsudzak 3 or 4 years ago I think so they are probably just jumping on that now he is on a free. We don't need another winger/attacking mid anyway!

Gregorz Krychowiak (spelling) would be a great signing to replace Lucas. Excellent CDM with pace and power. Reading that he has a release clause of about £22m. This is the type of midfielder that would help the team instead of a Kovacic 'no 10' style. We have plenty of creativity already we need a shield. Both would be good 😎

Not sure about the "plenty of creativity" comment mate.
Without Suarez, Gerrard, Sterling and Sturridge what do we have?
Coutinho is a little hit-and-miss, Markovic has to improve his final ball and Can is shackled in defence. Adam Lallana is ok when fit and Allen, Milner and Henderson will contribute but we really do need to replace Gerrard's vision and the tenacity and magic of Suarez. To me, Strindl or Kovacic could provide "the spark" but who will be at the end of it? Sturridge? Origi? Ings? Balotelli? Borini? Sterling?
My hunch is to rule out 3-4 of the above as likely starters up front for our first game.
We really need to pull the rabbit out of the hat with deals for Sterling and the two Italians (plus Aspas, Alberto and Coates off the books) in order to facilitate the capture of a proven striker.
As far as the DM position goes, there has been nobody more vocal than me over the years about our need to replace Hamman/Mascherano etc. I've been like a broken record on the issue but BR (unlike Rafa) doesn't recognize the advantages of protecting the defence.which is strange considering the vulnerability of our defence.
Lucas Leiva has been a loyal and enthusiastic ambassador of Liverpool Football Club over the years and is a seriously decent bloke. I'm disappointed the fans never really warmed to him and gave him his own song. After all, he wasn't brought in as a Def Mid (Rafa saw his potential in the role and he's performed it without protest for years).
Now, he could be going (I hope not) and those supporters with any know-how will understand the absolute need for a replacement. Ideally (but not too realistic) we'll bring in Schneiderlin.
However, we don't really need to panic in this regard. after all, we are once again "in transition".
Kolo Toure, Jordan Rossiter, Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen could fill the gap (depending on the opposition).for 70% of the season we won't NEED a specialist, just a spoiler like Lucas. The other 30% of the season, against top teams, we rely on Rodgers and his coaching certificates.

You lost any credibility in your long post early on by saying Lallana is OK, the boy is class,and hasn't the legend Gerrard had an awful lot of games when he hasn't been " creative " if not entirely invisible. And Benitez did make us hard to beat, but awful to watch.

a midfield/attack of

----------Milner-----------
---- Hendo ---- Couts -----
Ibe ---- Studge ---- Llalana

That's pretty creative in my book but agree it's a young side and Sturridge injury a worry. Perhaps we need one more proven striker but no more - Kovacic a bonus.

Replace Gerrards vision? You mean his staggering 3 assists from open play in his last two seasons? In fact he only got 1 assist in total last season as his set pieces went to pot and that was virtually the only creativity he had left.

Then you criticise the creativity of Henderson and Milner who got 15 and 9 assists respectively last season whilst Coutinho got just 6.

Some people really do see what they want to see. Stats aren't always great but when it comes to scoring and creating goals it's pretty black and white. And last season Henderson and Milner created 24 goals whilst your esteemed Gerrard and Coutinho created 7. Less than 30% of Hendo/Millers collective total.

So by all means slate them because of the simplicity and ruthless effectiveness of their chance creation style, but don't spout utter tripe about them being on a similar creative level as Joe Allen.

Top Top post EMS. players like hendo milner get nothing for their hardwork. compare the numbers and you will understand just how important a player hendo is for the team. also i Hope lallana contributes next season , he has had his 1 season for settling at anfield, now he needs to step up those performances to a level we know he can. also Ibe has to play at the wings now , he should the right sided winger/forward watever we play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3, no point in playing him RWB. Also i still hope for Kovacic to be signed. A midfield of kovacic hendo and emre can just makes me so hopeful for next season , coutinho/milner in front of them with ings/sturridge and Ibe upfront. i just hope next season we play with two upfront in a 4-3-1-2 , it would theoretically suit us. if we get a top striker maybe its good but i am happy if we only add kovacic over bodgan, ings and milner in the summer and get rid of a few italians and the left spaniards and a certain welsh guy,

We've needed to replace stevie for 3 years, it's not because of his measly 3 assists last year, don't take it out of context ems

Stevie (as in the great player from 2001-2010) has been replaced. He played in an attacking midfield role in which we now have Coutinho, Lallana, Teixeira, Brannagan etc.

Why would we want to replace the Stevie of the last 3 years? Injuries, inconsistency, defensive farilties etc. He hasn't been scoring or assisting much from open play for half a decade and it's just slowly got worse and worse.

So if we're replacing Stevie, we're replacing Coutinho. Kovacic if played in an nced role could be very similar to Stevie. But it'd mean pushing Coutinho out of the side or into a wide role. I am pretty sure Kovacic will partner Hendo in midfield next season if he signs. Which actually means he's replacing Lucas/Allen/Gerrard(of the last few years) none of whom have contributed anything i would consider to be exceptional vision.

Lucas is a great destroyer whom i'd be sad to lose, Allen is merely a metronome and nothing more than a squad player, and Gerrard has been shoehorned into a role he can't play just to save his legs and get him on the pitch to take set pieces. All of his best performances have come when he's been in advanced positions. To be quite frank, I'd have kept Gerrard as a back up to Coutinho. He never has been and never will be a good holding midfielder though and certainly doesn't need replacing. We replaced him years ago when we signed Coutinho.

EMS what about their assists of assists and so. Pretty sure Gerrard would be high on that list.

16 Jun 2015 12:59:16
EMS, just because Gerrard hasn't been at his best in recent seasons, it doesn't mean that his vision hasn't been top class during his time with us. Also, good vision isn't just about assists, it's about picking out quality passes that other players wouldn't see. Not to mention that the season before last he was played as a cdm so shouldn't be expected to be getting bags of assists from open play. He still needs replacing, as does Alonso even after all these years.

And let's be honest we've seen you "spout utter tripe" about players being a lot better than they really are. So lay off the guy, he didn't slate them, he said they will contribute.

Speaking of right backs. How do you rate Barcelona's new right back Vidal? Would we of considered?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is not really a right back, he can just cover there. As a right back he is mostly missing up field as his positional sense is non-existent. He is a winger.}

{Ed001's Note - only more pronounced as he literally forgets his position at times. His starting position tends to be 10 yards too far forward.}
