Will we see Suso in the first team anytime soon?

Kenny will play him when he is ready

I hope so the lad has got it

gee man

So is that never.

Not anytime soon I would imagine. He has been pretty poor for the last couple of months and was completely outplayed by all of Ajax's youth attacking players in the Nextgen semifinal. He needs more time. Perhaps a loan move when he's available would be a better decision.

Nick, Suarez is an embarrasment to our club, Get him out, He has brought nothing but shame on our club, He also brought shame on ajax for spitting at 2 opponents, he bit an opposing player, For uruguay he was classed a hero for cheating ghana out of the world cup match, He's a disgrace. i dont like him. louis.

I think that your comments are a bit of an EMBARRASSMENT. None of the Ajacieds that I have spoke to know anything about spitting incidents. In fact the word spits is Dutch for striker. You should take a look at the Bakkal incident in more detail - earlier in the match Bakkal stands on Suarez' foot (behind the referee's back) as he is lacing his boot. Deliberate aggression. At the end of the match Suarez and Bakkal leave the pitch with their arms around each other's shoulders. This alleged cheating against Ghana is not just a Suarez trait. Several weeks ago there were two instances in the Premier League on the same day. In the first the offending player was sent off, a penalty was awarded and it was scored. The second incident involved John Terry . He handled the ball on the line and it was cleared to an opposition player who put it into the net. In my opinion Terry should also have been sent off as the intent was there but he wasn't even booked. Finally, congratulations to Stevie G who scored another goal today without even playing. Let's hope that he can do even better on Sunday.

We all knew about Saurez's antics before he joined the club.
It seems that many LFC fans only want to remember the past and past events.
Come on look to the future, or is there some sort of comfort in dwelling in the past!.

For the person who wants suarez out of our club . I think I would rather you leave the club and support someone else . Louis Suarez is a top top class footballer who was made a scape goat by the FA our club reacted weather rightly or wrongly the supported him we as a club made mistakes as did Louis they have now been rectified and it is time to go forward move on and return to the goals this club set over a hundred years ago with the support of the fans not the ones who come on this site and do nothing but slag off the manager , the players and the owners Liverpool FC do not need supporters like this , This is not the peoples club this is a world club run for the enjoyment of the people .

If Suarez brought shame on Ajax, why do they all still love him? Why did he go back over to Ajax to say goodbye properly to the fans? (which by the way, I thought was a very classy thing for a man to do) Going by the above posters, the more informed of us (possibly more intelligent) are not embarrassed by him. Other defenders are scared cr*apless by him, and every manager would want him if they could get him. And some people want to sell him? Madness. The lad is a diamond. A few rough edges, but let's give him time. Nick.

Yea get rid of Suarez. The day after we sign someone even better than him.

Hey ed, im referred to as a moaner by cozinoz n co. Dont u think it is right to moan the way things r going?

Indian Buzzer

Don't see a problem here, Buzzer. I think you're a moaner. You think its right to moan. Hence.....you ARE a moaner.

As a critic of Kenny, I wish him and the team he selects against stoke all the best on Sunday

Patience!

Use five in midfield and go with the strongest players and most experience. So no spearing.

5 in midfield is a no-no. Suarez and Carroll have got to play together.

16 Mar 2012 21:35:48
Ryan Babel weighing up his future at Hoffenheim. We should ask him to come back! He has 4 goals in Bundesliga....more than Torres in PL! I always thought he had talent, just really poor first touch....that must be fixable??

Id take babel back over torres

cozinoz

How is a poor touch fixable?
First touch is instinct and can't really be taught!

Yeah.. 4 goals is better than Torres but it isn't good. Don't be a fool.

BthekingB

Its not foolish. Who has proved better in the last year with regards to goals, attitude, pace, wages, age.... I'm not saying Babel is particularly great but Torres has been poor for nearly 2 years

cozinoz

I think he would offer some pace to our slow as f*** team. this is one of our biggest problems. out wide weve got downing and henderson and kuyt who with respect to their other skills are not capable of running past most players. carroll is obviously not the quickest and suarez isnt very quick over a distance. bellamy has pace but he only plays 1 in 3
NZL_reD

He started great then faded away. he won balls he had no right to win, then began giving possession away trying to beat defenders instead of playing it simple. he never matured

We could and should get better than him.. He had his chance..

Phooey

First touch can be fixed... Practice mate. U make it second nature, and your body will naturally trap it like you have been practicing

Hes a fkin Pro,how does he need to practice 1st touch? He was useless, and bottler to boot

It doesn't matter if he's a pro. Everyone who gets to a certain athletic acheviement of the level that he achieved. They improve themselves as players everyday. That's the point of buying a young player. To improve and develop them into stars. U must not have experience being an atlethic person who strives to improve

marko marin and moussa sissoko for midfield as for wingers and strikers god no's

God here, I heard its Mario Gomez for striker but its only a rumour

Marin is a winger

Yeh but comes inside quite alot or plays of striker sim to messi / silva not sicking to one position

16 Mar 2012 21:18:55
Hi eds just wondering who you think we will sign in the summer or who you would like , being realistic were not going to sign hazard , munian , martinez etc.. even tho i would like all of these its quite obv its not going to happen without champions league football , i am hoping for marko marin as he is a very creative player from the wing who and come inside and we defo need some one who no's were the back of the net is , maybe barrios or somefin , i can see us also making a sneaky bid for cabaye i wouldnt mind tht simular to xavi just not as good :) do you think these would be good and realistic signing eds ?

If chelski win champs league and finish 5th.... then the team who finishes 4th wouldnt get in
? am i right ed? cheers

Harley {Ed001's Note - yes.}

Not a chance of the Chavs winning mate they got AC or Barca in semis.

Derek

Never mind AC or Barca in the semis they have to get past Benfica first.

always a red

This shouldnt be a worry for you boys. You have zero chance of making 4th and you no longer get to compete in the champions league, nor will you for a very long time. Silly reds!

Melbourne CFC

Not for you children to worry about. CL is no longer something that requires your opinion.

Melbourne CFC

It probably won't be for you in a couple of weeks either!
KJS

Argh but it currently is KJS, and we stand a very good chance to keep it at our club next season.

You lot may not even manage to fill a Europa spot and will only qualify through a poor performance against a championship side.

Liverpool team for Sunday:

Reina

Kelly Carragher Skrtel Enrique

Kuyt Gerrard Spearing Downing

Suarez Carroll

Subs: Doni, Coates, Flanagan, Adam, Henderson, Maxi, Bellamy

You're stating that you know this will be the team, when let's be honest, King Kenny probably doesn't even know it yet.

But that would be my team for the game.

Stone YNWA

Not a chance. Kenny will play Adam and Henderson, even if they both have broken ankles.

16 Mar 2012 20:50:32
For banter page !
If Chelsea won the champ league would that open 5th spot if Chelsea also finish in top 4? Thoughts

John {Ed001's Note - no, 4 teams from England qualify.}

Yes but if they finish 5th in the league it would stop arsenal or spurs from qualiying?? {Ed001's Note - yes.}

16 Mar 2012 20:49:56
Would like to see this team have a few run outs before the end of the season, think it's our strongest:

-------------- Reina --------------
Kelly - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique
------ Gerrard - Spearing ------
- Johnson - Suarez - Downing -
------------- Carroll -------------

-Shane.

16 Mar 2012 20:12:45
are side for next year

Reina
Johnson agger skertl enrique

matt philips stevie g lucas hoilett

suarez cavani

thoughts eds {Ed001's Note - we are not going to sign Cavani, with Real Madrid trying to sell Higuain to raise the funds to buy him, Chelsea refusing the offer to take Higuain because it would involve a clause to not buy Cavani. Can you really see him choosing us over Madrid? Maybe if it was just Chelsea, though they will at least double any wage offer would make anyway.}

Who are in for Higuain Ed001? Would it be foolish to think that we are?

Cheers,
Stone YNWA. {Ed001's Note - Chelsea rejected it due to the back off Cavani clause, apart from that you would need to speak to Ed002, though she is away at the moment. I really couldn't tell you who else are interested, though there are a few clubs she has mentioned.}

From what I've been told city, Chelsea, juventus, are all interested in higuain. Player himself really doesn't want to leave Madrid but is more keen on juventus than the others. He has been shown alot of faith by the Madrid hierarchy in the past but seems like they want their "big " signing.

If i was Luis Suarez, 25 i wouldn't be loyal to a team like lfc. Its football and my playing career is only 5 years. I need to be winning things.

Wasted 4 years at Ajax, Wasted another season at liverpool. Had a great world cup with uruguay, won the coppa in 2011. People know I can hack it in a big league. Its time to move to a bigger team with better players and win things. Barcelona or Real Madrid. It must be about champions league football and winners medals right now in his career.

I would personally leave english for spain and let the racism thing blow over. as a spanish speaking player, I would find the lifestyle and culture better suited.

It's a good thing that you are not Luis Saurez then mate isn't it ?

...if all players had an attitude like yours, there won't be any football in 10 years time because WE the fans wont be watching t*ts like you let alone paying your wages!

In 20 years time Luis Suarez will be sitting in his large house in Uruguay paid for from those wasted years spent in Amsterdam and Liverpool while you are sitting regretting the fact that you have either forgotten your own name of don't actually know what your name is which would possibly make you are b...... - you certainly write like one. The life style in Spain is so fantastic that there is going to be a General Strie in the country on March 29th.

Didnt know fernando torres came on here and posted
NZL_REd

Nzl-red, he's always on here begging for a transfer back from Chelski. We keep having to say 'no' - its getting a bit embarrassing

cozinoz

Haha cozinoz, begging for a move to such a small club, me thinks not. What is getting embarrassing is the amount of u-turns you guys pull out week after week. Last week the majority were saying Gerrard is past it, this week he is the god you all praise him as.

Fernando does not want anything to do with a team who cant even compete for a champions league spot, and is far from becoming a force in England or Europe for a very long time (if ever).

Melbourne CFC

Ha cozinoz you do put a smile on my face, honestly. Torres doesn't want to return to a small club. He has made the step up and wont be coming near you guys, time to put it to bed. Newcastle have a better shot.

Melbourne CFC

Yes because they have totally beat us? He has been banging in te goals? You have won a trophy? Ask yourself these questions

i love the site, but hate so many of the people who post. every time i check out the page its the same questions. in what world would ferguson consider selling us berbatov(who i for one do not want)? he wouldnt sell us heinze back in the day, whats changed for the positive?! and no lavezzi and cavani arnt gonna join if we dont get CL spot, nor is messi before you ask. be realistic, we cant match the wages of some, the attraction of spains top 2 and maybe cant match Champs league football, dont be a moron, think next time before you post please or i may go insane. sorry, rant over.

I thought we had him nailed to sign after his recent interview....

Good afternoon. I am sat here in Florida with my usual mug of tea and looking at the varying comments on this website with a bit of an ironic smile on my face (maybe a smirk)
The initial cause of this merriment is that one of the Manchester Clubs is going to finish trophy-less this season which makes me feel good.
Secondly, as I cast my eyes above me in the premier league I see a fair bit of shambles going on...
One English team (only) into the quarter finals tells its own story and I don't think that suddenly the Premiership has become bad overnight, I just think the top teams have run into situations that leaves them at a disadvantage to the rest of Europe at the present time. Please allow me to expand further...
UNITED - Aging playing staff, bringing Scholes back says it all. Dodgy keeper. Heavily reliant on Rooney. How long can Giggs go on for? Money needs to be spent, do they have it? Glazers have taken £600 million out of the club since takeover. Results are better than performances. Twas ever thus.
CITY - Close to a billion spent in total (£305m to payoff debt £420m players £360m wages) A collection of talented mercaneries there for the dosh. Mancini has no idea of his best team and tactically naive. Dead man walking if they don't win the title. New man will take time to settle as will his staff.
SPURS - Punched above their weight this term but now being found out. If Harry goes, more turmoil and time for a new guy to settle. Can they hang on to Bale and Modric? Changes afoot.
ARSENAL - Mediocre in defence but have probably been the most improved and improving team this season. However, take RVP away and the team is very poor. His goals have made the difference. Goal machine
CHELSEA - Too many players getting old together and too much say in the running of the team. Di Matteo is a JT puppet. Unhealthy situation which needs money thrown at it, in which case FPP rules could bite. Lucky to be in CL quarters and Barca await. Trophy-less season. Poisoned chalice of a job for new manager
NEWCASTLE - Flash in the pan. End of story
LIVERPOOL - Transitional season (yes one of a few) but a whole lot of dead-wood was disposed of in the last 12 months (we all know who they are, so sad that Joe Cole didn't make it tho) but if we had been a bit more clinical with pens and not made so much use of the woodwork we would have been so much closer to the action at the top of the league and, we all would have been much happier (obviously) We have not been un-creative and I for one would love us to pick up a John Aldridge type of goal poacher... Defensively we are third best as it stands which again, speaks for itself.

All in all, I think the teams that are above us all have their own problems in their own ways and I do feel that we are at least a season ahead of most of them in our re-build and with a couple of choice signings and some of our talented youngsters breaking through to the first team, the future is brighter than a lot of our opposition.
Sorry for the long post, I know its not going to cure all the doom-mongers but my hope is that it puts a little perspective into our not-so-great current 7th place, oh and the FA Cup would also be a nice 'Brucie Bonus'

MikeinUSA

Where in Florida are you? It's nice to know there are more than just a few of us Reds fans here. You bring up some good points and it will be interesting to see how far up we will go up the table in the next 10 games. Any word on where the summer tour in going to be? I heard the Reds were coming to the US but have not heard where or when.

Satellite Beach Red

My mother lives in georgia. I visit her often. Long live the south

Agreed with most of above but i have a sneaky feeling the special one will be at city next year

Greetings Satelite Beach Red.

I am in Stuart, Florida which is about 120 miles North of Miami. I live here on a sailboat and love the life apart from being away from my beloved Anfield (where I was born) There is a decent ex-pat community here with a fair cross section of teams supported (thankfully not too many Mancs lol) Was at Wembley in 78 v Bruges, 81,82,83,84 and 86 (best day of my life) Miss the Kop roar however...

MikeinUSA {Ed016's Note - A sail boat? how big? I want to attempt sailing around the world, or at least a long term sailing trip...I hate flying.! that's the life. I live in Canada, want to move to east coast soon here}

Hello Ed016. Have lived on my boat for nearly 7 years and have loved every minute. Would completely recommend the life and the lifestyle.

Whilst its a big leap and not to be underestimated, the Caribbean and the Bahamas are the biz.

Be happy to share more with you, I live on a Morgan OutIsland 41ft with six berths.

You have my EM

Still miss the Mighty Reds though!

Regards

MikeinUSA

Satellite Beach is not far from you. We are just north of Melbourne and it is nice to hear of more Reds close by.

Satellite Beach Red

Glad to hear you've taken your blinkers onboard your boat! : )

Arsenal and Chelsea will both strengthen before next season and are already ahead of L'pool

United and City will still be firmly in the top 4

Spurs are likely to be pushing for top 4 even if Harry and one of Bale/Modric leaves, they would reinvest. They already have a far better squad than L'pool

That leaves 5 teams who are still likely to finish above L'pool next season IMO

The difference between L'pool and the others is that you were starting from a much worse position (last yr) in terms of league position, quality of players, squad depth. And apart from Suarez & Enrique what has been added to the squad has been average and over priced

How much of a budget will there be left after spending £100m+ already? Can they attract good players finishing 6th at best? Will Suarez want to stay? How long can Gerrard go on for? If KK goes will you have to start all over again?

Just showing that you can look at the exct same situation in many different ways!

This summer and next season will be very interesting, that much is for sure

Gav

I love Canada! I visit prince Rupert almost every year!

Ed i know Macca gives us little bits of info when he can but he rarely posts anything unless its transfer window possible purchases is there anyway you guys could take Questions from people say for instance the suarez situation Does he want to stay or Go? and email him (Providing he agrees) and see if he can find out certain things...Just an idea its cool if you cant

MJ

Suarez will 100% be gone in the summer

Suarez will 100% be staying in the summer

Can no name poster above ^^^ give us some idea of where his FACT has come from? I would be surprised of either way it would be 100%. Personally, I will be devastated if he does go. It wouldn't be for footballing reasons, which means that we would be a victim of all the cr*p being thrown at us. I hope we stand tall, don't sell him, and hope that he can become the legend which I think he has the potential to become. If we do sell him, I really hope that we get such a ridiculous amount of money that it would be impossible to not sell. Even then I will be gutted! Nick.

Nick, Suarez is an embarrasment to our club, Get him out, He has brought nothing but shame on our club, He also brought shame on ajax for spitting at 2 opponents, he bit an opposing player, For uruguay he was classed a hero for cheating ghana out of the world cup match, He's a disgrace. i dont like him. louis.

So it's 50/50 then...

I think Suarez should clone himself. One stay, the other go. Its the only solution. That way we keep Suarez, and also get the money for Suarez.

Coop

Hey, louis, welcome to your opinion but I think Suarez is awesome and want him to stay.

How is suarez an embarrasment, you should be writing that crap about him go support someone else fool.

Hi eds very interesting comments by Ian Ayre today and kind of hinting what macca has already said about staying at anfield. Any details of how capacity will be affected when work is going on?

Also is there any details on ticket prices next season lets just hope there is a price freeze as times are hard for people at the moment.

Cheers
mighty reds {Ed019's Note - I think the club will want to get it to hold 60-65k, and that they do not want it expand it so much that there are empty seats}

So you want ticket Prices Frozen but the club to spend money on players!!

We should defo go for Munian and Martinez off Bilbao, Ive been watching them for a while now and last night just proved how good we are, We need to catch up on manu, They are miles ahead, I reckon we could get Munian for 30m and martinez for 35m, We should also go for pepe from real madrid for 8m, and Llorente off Bilbao for about 6-7m. Then get rid of suarez, downing, henderson, adam, coates and spearing. We could defo get top 4 next season, Also, get kenny out, bring back rafa, davey {Ed001's Note - the same Llorente they already rejected a 35m offer off us for?}

Or we could ask Bilbao to do a team swap...Ye what a fantastic idea (SARCASM)... Why post such idiotic things

Mindless post

AJ

Welcome to earth

gee man

Agreed, martinez, munian, lorente and pepe would be great signings for us, Hopefully your right about dalglisha nd his shambles signings been gone in the summer, id keep spearing though, bit of a dirty player but he gets stuck in and breaks things up for us, IN RAFA WE TRUST

EUROPA CUP FEVER!!!!

hey eds

just read something saying anfield might be worked on to be a 60,000+ stadium her anything thanks {Ed002's Note - Please see answers from the past couple of days.}

There's a nice little blog on the This is Anfield website too (not as good as eds 001 & 002 of course!). Could possibly gradually work on Main Stand and Anfield Road end to bring capacity to circa 60k and improve corporate facilities too.

Will people stop with the Sterling to leave rumours.

All he did was mentioned to a mate, from back in London, that Liverpool isn't as good as London.
He's happy hear but ofcourse likes London better, everyone likes there first home more.

KT!

*here

KT!

London is better! face it

Ya I can understand how someone can enjoy taking 2hrs a day to drive the 3 miles to training!

Its quicker by tube!

Why is it 2hrs? {Ed002's Note - Because that is the time change between London and Tel Aviv.}

16 Mar 2012 16:53:28
Arsenal hve agreed to sign Podolski for 11M plus add-ons for any trophys won, bringing the deal to 11M.

Question to eds: has Kenny lost interest in Shelvey? Last year he was used regularly by Kenny, which had me optimistic about our growth. Seems to be forgotten man, even though Hendo and Adam have put in several questionable performances.

Coop {Ed002's Note - I suspect that he remains a valued squad player but perhaps not heading the plans for the rest of this season.}

Don't understand the fuss about this player! when he was at charlton every london club looked at him but not one put in an offer!

Just because they didn't put in a offer doesn't mean nothing. Spurs had a good look at Suarez but decided not to put in an offer. personally I feel Shelvey will be a good player but it'll be better to ease him into the first team. -McMenemy

McMenemy

Perhaps Spurs were justified in not making an offer following Suarez' involvement in 'incidents' and lack of goals?

Just as the teams who decided not to put in an offer for Shelvey may be justified because he's not that good?

Gav {Ed001's Note - he is a young lad who starred at Blackpool on his loan spell, he is certainly a good player, with the potential to get much better.}

@ Red Raj 08.03 today,
Quite an interesting interview that mate.
Ian Ayres talks about the synergy between Fenway Park, home of Boston Red Sox, and Anfield. And the need to retain the "earthiness" of both clubs.
Which to me screams REDEVELOPMENT !
Also about running a sustainable business, where the owners do not keep on writing cheques.
So forget all these European superstars for £30m plus transfers and £100k plus per week wages.
Young, talented potential that represents value for money and that want to play for the club.
Got that ?
The Real KB

Downing, Adam, young talents value for money.. Henderson & Carroll yes young talents but can we sell Carroll for 35m Henderson for 20M.. LMFAO

So far the buys were against the FSG philosophy. Though some youngsters were not willing to come there was plenty of quality players whom would say yes if an offer was made & we could have got for less money.. Mata.. for 20M weekly wages 75K-85K, Daniel Pranjic 9M 45K, Xherdan Shaqiri [ LFC were interested din him and Commoli was also interested in the player but after Kenny the interest faded away now he is one of continents top youngster Bayern snatched him], 10M 60K, Ever Banega 18M, on 55K at Valencia... the list goes on ..the players brought in were not the best we could get but now no if iff.. we should try to get the best out of the players we have... Downing & Adam might not prove something in the long run but Carroll and Henderson has the potential at least..

Not willing to write big cheques? A year too late for that! We paid over the odds on Carroll, Downing and Hendo. I think that sent a message to potential sellers that Liverpool will pay whatever for players they want. Ayre's posturing is simply a means of reversing that mentality. I think the owners will make a couple of big purchases in the off season. Let's just hope this time is value for money.

Like it or lump it lads, the buys last year will form the basis of the squad for the next few years. Don't expect that type of spending year on year is what I meant.
If Suarez goes then, yeah, another big signing. Other than that, money recouped from sales and another couple added. Then hopefully start bringing some kids through.
The Real KB

You forget the tax in the UK means that we would have to pay considerably more for them to earn the same over here.
You would then be paying nearly double what we are most likely paying Carroll, Henderson etc.

That's Why Spain's economy is up Sh"t Creek without a Paddle.
Because nobody pays above 30% tax

Lyndon

i just hope that chelsea get destroyed in the champions league. also the reason why the champions league is not entertaining to watch anymore is because liverpool are not in it. i know that we are not the same team as we were years ago but, when we were at our best, we outplayed teams such as barcelona, both milan teams, real madrid, chelsea etc. hopefully we get back into the champions league, but we need to get better players in the summer.

Not just better players...The difference then and now was down to one thing....RAFA.

Rafa Rafa Rafa Rafa Rafa Rafa Rafa Rafa Rafa start off quiet then get louder

Haha not entertaining anymore you blokes are a little ridiculous and extremely bitter. The round of 16 had 18 more goals than the same round last year. Most games were very close with some ties decided late, in extra time or by penalties.

You guys will not be in CL for a very long time, you will not be able to attract players of the calibre you need, or pay the wages required to get real quality players to come to your crumbling club.

Rafa has said he wants the Chelsea job (which he will not get) and that Liverpool would understand because of your love for him. He does not want a return to a flailing club in decline.

There's an upside however, a good number of clubs are finding your standing in the league and fall from grace (you weren't that great over the past 5 years in all honesty) as extremely humorous.

Melbourne CFC

Stats: 18 more goals scored in the round of 16 than last term.

Ties were extremely close, including some injury time winners, extra time winners, and penalty shoot out to decide tie.

You need to stop being so bitter boys, you are not a force in Europe, and in my opinion you shall remain that way for a while yet.

Rafa said he wants the Chelsea job (which he wont get) as he wants the chance to win trophies (Carling isn't on his list of cups to win I'm sure). You are stuck with KD.

More british failures to come to your floundering club.

what specialist for andy caroll?
header?

Radamel Falcao - 35 Headed Goals

How much is this guy worth?

Ed, did rafa not have the chance to sign this guy some years ago? I remember liverpool being linked to him. His timing to get in the box is spot on.

Vik

Yer, but look at the service, compare those crosses to Hendo's and Downing's crossing. Kenny should get them watching the video.

The goal against vil was just awfull defending

Andy Carroll's Youtube video looks very similar to this. It's easy if youre just showing a player's best moments

Higuain is a player that we should get

I don't think he would be much of a player after we drug him and bundle him into the back of a car and drive him from Spain to Liverpool - as this is the only way I can see him coming to us.

I have been telling everyone who i talk to about football that we have around six or seven youngsters who have massive potential to become future stars in the first team in the next 2 or 3 years. I realise they are still very young and Ajax looked much more experienced and stronger but I was still massively disappointed the other night by their progress over the past 12 months.

I really hope FSG give the manager some serious funds in the summer to really have a crack at the league next season, playing in a 4-2-3-1 formation my dream/possible team would be,
reina
kelly skrtel agger enrique
lucas javi martinez (40m euros)
suarez gerrard munaian (15m euros)
soldado (25m euros)
this would leave us with a choice of the likes of caroll, adam, downing, coates, sterling, suso, henderson, spearing, coady, wilson, kuyt etc for the bench, definetly think this starting 11 would give any team a run for there money, opinions and thoughts appreciated.

"I really hope FSG give the manager some serious funds in the summer to really have a crack at the league next season"
Jesus!
They gave him £100+million this year before the sales. What is 'serious money' to you - £250,000,000,000,000,000?

I think this team would definitely win everything, just have to rely on the opposition, fans, referees, commentators, FA and everyone watching not being able to count to 12.

Eds said munain would cost 40 million euros

Where do you get 12 from you plonker, javi martinez is 1 person and for the other post i think 80m euros should do it just in case you can't read.
paul d

FSG did not give Kenny 100M last summer. Most of the transfer cash were from the sale of players. Get your facts right, dude.

Very good team, i'd love us to be fielding tht team next year weather it happens or not,who knows

Man Utd sit at the top of the Premier League.
They have just been given a football lesson by Atletico Bilbao. 7th or so in La Liga.

What does this say about the so-called Premier League ?

What does it say about the current Liverpool team?

Its Athletic Bilbao not Atletico. i believe they were founded by the English. {Ed001's Note - they were founded by dockworkers from Sunderland, hence the kit.}

It says that there is intense competition in the PL - look at the top teams we have taken points off - and that the PL marketplace overvalues the players we buy either from overseas or within the UK. Either way, we are all getting a lot less bang for the buck than we once were; but all the fans of all the clubs are ever more impatient for success and the avoidance of financial implosion / relegation...

Suffolk'n Red

What i don't get is that united could be so outplayed and still score 3 goals whereas we can dominate arsenal and only manage 1 which was in reality a gift. i really think we need to splash out on a striker i know we did on carrol but he needs time

Fantastic atmosphere the other night at Bilbao.
No Prawn Sandwich Brigade, just everyone bang into the football, all sides of the ground singing.

What do you mean by 'prawn sandwich brigade'? Do you mean the corporate guests? The guests of the sponsors who pump money into the club and keep yiour ticket prices down? Class warrior?

I have read alot of the comments on here about KD and his apparent tactical naivety or dated tactics whatever you want to call them but I think he has brought back an enjoyable type of football to Anfield. I am by no means a football expert, unlike a few posters on here, I just know what I like to watch. I don't think that the team has played particularly badly or that the new guys need more time to settle... It's pretty obvious that if we had a goalscorer putting away 25-30 goals a season we would be right up there in the race for fourth, so I guess you could say that has been KD's problem this season. He gambled on Carroll being that man ! I still think AC will come good, hopefully sooner rather than later. Suarez was never going to be an Aguero, Rooney or Van Persie. And Gerrard, last week accepted, has been in and out of the team since KD has been back and seems to have lost his attacking sharpness. If KD can find a top scorer I can really see this team going places next season. I have supported this club through thick and thin for 30 years and I am not about to start sticking the knife in now that things aren't happening over night.
Just one question to all those whining ,negative ,armchair , Fantasy football, part time fans....

Are you Adrian Durham in disguise ?

YNWA Tobiwan

"Just one question to all those whining ,negative ,armchair , Fantasy football, part time fans...."

..... why are you not real fans like me? Get a life and appreciate that 'real fans' are allowed to ask questions, have doubts and criticise the club. 30 years have softened your brain mush!

I as one of the many critics of Kenny get it, Kenny can not be talked about in any way other than good words.

Hope you like mid table or slightly above as thats where we may stay for the foreseeable future.

Isn't Kenny and his buys and tactics just great.

The point the OP made is that Kenny's buys and tactics are fine (bar two awful matches). If we had a 25 a season poacher we'd ALL be singing KKs praises

"The Irritation of King Kenny"

The media baiting and slaughtering of the journalists goes on and yet we all rely on others to provide us with the information to make judgements with. We seem to have more than a few posters who lay into the media and describe any newspaper as a either a rag or fabricator of news. Is this not the reality of life - hype?

Alan Hansen's hyperbole is in the same category as John Cross ("yeh, no, but yeh, but no, but ...") in the Mirror and Adrian Durham on the increasingly abysmal talkSH**E. Yet we seem to give one of our old boys an easier time. It is in many ways a similar stretching of facts.

Even with my media hat on, I do think there is some 'loose work' with some of the information pumped out as news. I cringe every time the man with the appallingly loose teeth on SKY Sports news (the Scottish one) says, "Hold on, we have some breaking news!" Turns out some League One player whose contract runs out in 2019 has extended that for another year! But with 24 hours of 'news' to fill - what do we expect? Hence some of the time we feel the media 'makes stuff up.' There is so much time that needs so much information, no matter how trivial or loosely based on fact, rumour or conjecture.

The suggestion that Raheem Sterling is unsettled and wants to leave (maybe) is a point in question: with some knowledge of this industry I find it hard to believe that it is simply a 100% made-up story. There is always some basis be it conjecture or comment to work with. It may be that Sterling or his agent have said something that can be interpreted as dissatisfaction or unhappiness. In that case it is somewhat understandable that a journalist might suggest or assert that the player would want to leave. When it gets to the subs/editor(s) it may be a weak story and so needs a little polishing. Hence the rather stronger suggestion that the player is unsettled. Not something I want to read, but I understand how it works. I just do not beleive it is made up from a zero base.

Take the incredulous look on Steven Gerrard's face when Torres was hauled by Roy Hodgson in that memorable game. SG may have shown surprise and so it could easily be translated into "Gerrard unhappy with manager" or "Gerrard calls for Hodgson's departure." The former would run easily enough with the latter a little OTT, but it is easy to see how it works its way out.

Too many people simply say the media fabricates news and refuses to believe they are professional in their workings. Yet look at Twitter or Facebook and see how many players use similar methods that are complianed about to run their own agendas. The laughable 'lost in translation' excuses that come from players once they are let off the leash is just as bad. "The manager is useless and couldn't pick his nose!" A French player says that to a French magazine and then says it was badly translated. He says he really said, "I love the manager who is brilliant at picking me for the team." If you're a fan of the player and the club is that acceptable?

The British media has been exposed and savaged over the past two years for malpractice. It is not the case with all members of the written media and usually not with the radio/TV journalists. It annoys me as well as you when I read stuff about KK being criticised or Suarez maybe being unsettled, but usually there are reasons for the story. You cannot simply make up rumours unless there is some small fabric of truth or suggestion. You CAN speculate or wonder 'what if?' and that can come across as fabrication. "We think KK is leaving" or "Our view is that Skrtel will be sold", but this is not making up news. This is gossip and rumour, conjecture or personal views and the websites like www.liverpoolfc.tv print these pieces every day!

Sometimes the source of information is so plausible and strong that you print or announce it and then realise it was a planted news piece or a malicious rumour. It doesn't mean the journalists have sat down and simply made up something to be cruel, sharp or interesting. Read the Italian football media who have gossip about almost every aspect of player's lives and see how better off we are in the UK.

There are also players that almost spend their waking hours courting media coverage - Beckham, Ronaldo, Balotelli - and many of us lap it up. When they complain that the media have made things up, can we then take what they say at other times seriously?

The elephant in the room (and one I have highlighted before) is The Sun. I have no wish to go over old ground as it sparks so many comments we don't need. Suffice to say, the issue over The Sun's coverage of Hillsboro' is different from the bulk of other alleged 'made-up' news and stories. Leaving The Sun aside, there is no malice to my mind in any of the recent news surrounding players/clubs. It may be unfounded gossip dressed up as strong news and fact, but I don't see it as a deliberate attempt to delude and deceive.

Mangers like Ferguson and Wenger are quick to use the written media to highlight a referee before he takes charge of their game. They way they suggest bias and a need to get a grip of the upcoming game is their way of using the media to gain an advantage. This is as unsavoury as anything complained about by fans of the media.

Journalists are easy targets and the ex-players like Collymore and Keown who claim media credentials (right!) are as irritating and laughable as me claiming to believe in any divine being. What it does highlight though is that these people who have been in the game are as adept and used to gossip and rumour mongering as we are in simply accusing the media of scandalous creativity.

I watch games, talk to players, listen to fans, talk with mates, listen to the radio and think about all these things. Then I can make my own mind up about what I think is true or false. The British media is way beyond being white as snow for many things and certainly no strangers to shameful manipulation and low standards. But the media is also far more informative and scathing about some of the flaky players, dodgy chairmen and shocking arrogances of the game. Long may that continue and long may we have a media we can dip and out of and make our own decisions about. If that's not for you, then believe everything you read, moan on and become bitter.

SP

Talks**te has gone downhill since about 2008 when the present programme Director Moz Dee took over and made some ridiculous changes. Am I the only one who has to turn off Cundy and the blonde when they are on You're on Sky Sports. They are so annoying.

There are a few good journalists out there, but the emphasis is on a FEW. The vast majority of journalists are self serving pond scum. For example - you write something negative about Fergie, and you get banned from Old Trafford. The result is that nothing negative is written about him, even if there's something to say. It's all too political. For his reason, many of us have stopped reading the main stream news, because it is mostly rehashed 'news' that has been planted by a clubs PR department, and mostly self serving to the club, which all the papers run with. If there is no real news, why say that there is? The Sun has simply been found out. All the other papers are, however, as equally guilty. Any reporting on the charges being dropped against the lad from Aintree who was accused of racially abusing the Oldham player? The only thing I heard was 'charges dropped due to a lack of evidence'. No mention of the fact charges were dropped because everyone who sat near him heard him say something else entirely. Best stick to the more sensationalist and media led line that we are a racist club. I know everyone needs to pay their mortgage, but most journalists are little better than those at the Sun. Nick.

I didn't read all of that post but the suggestion that the media don't fabricate stories is simply ridiculous. To be fair to journalists, sometimes a source feeds them a false story, but often when there's little news journalists fabricate stories to sell papers. It's a simple fact.

Red Ollie

Great post SP, appreciated...

Suffolk'n Red

"I didn't read all of that post but the suggestion that the media don't fabricate stories is simply ridiculous."
Interesting that you didn't read most of the post and yet you make a statement of personal fact! If the words are too hard or the sentences too long, then ask Steve Parker a direct question and maybe he'll answer in a way you could understand!

"The only thing I heard was 'charges dropped due to a lack of evidence'. No mention of the fact charges were dropped because everyone who sat near him heard him say something else entirely."
Maybe not in The Star or The Bootle Times mate but there was in The Independent, The Telegraph, on the BBC World Service as well!
Facts? Just disregard them.

I agree with u mate. i hate your on sky sports, the anti liverpool fans and the two presenters (jason and clhoe). they keep talking rubbish about us. they don't even know anything about football. also the media needs to shut up and stop talking crap about liverpool football club.

Sorry SP can't agree with you about the journalists, they are constantly simply making up stories. I'm convinced they work on the basis that if you make up enough rubbish sometimes you'll drop lucky. They are a constant embarrassment yet seem immune from any criticism from their employers

Chris in Tamworth

Chris - as I often say, everyone is entitled to a view. Please give me some concrete examples of 'made up' stories. The tenet of my piece outlined how some 'news' is less than accurate BUT I still say I have not read anything that I would categorically say is made up. {Ed002's Note -

"Best stick to the more sensationalist and media led line that we are a racist club." Nick, this line is not blwon away so easily when people like Glen Johnson refer to the Suarez/Evra business when we all wanted it to go away.

Sorry - it was Rafa who took Torres out during the game against Birmingham, which left Stevie absolutely bewildered. The rift between the senior players and Rafa started from there, which is why Rafa will never manage LFC again, as long as Stevie & Carra is still around. Singred

SP, you know only too well that I can't prove a story is made up and that, I'm afraid, is part of the problem. My only evidence is the ridiculous amount of stories, especially around the transfer windows, that just don't turn out to be accurate.
Obviously some will be from "information" gathered but honestly I can't take these people seriously. Football journalist is in my opinion one of the biggest non jobs around, watch a football match and then give your opinion on what you've seen? There isn't a pub in the country that couldn't provide at least a dozen people capable of writing their opinion just as validly and probably without the club bias and player and manager love ins that seem to pervade every article written. What's more they all seem to be so chummy with each other they hardly ever even disagree even from paper to paper.
Id personally love the chance to do the job, I can assure you I'd ask some questions that would make people sit up and at the same time I wouldn't feel the need to enhance or mis quote a story. I understand how journalism works but honestly the "need for a headline" has replaced quality journalism
Just my opinion

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - I very rarely agree with you Chris, but I have to fully agree with you on this and I would much rather read your, even though they are mostly contrary to me, opinions than the nonsense that imbeciles like Oliver Holt write.}

Thanks Ed001, I'm sure if we sat chatting over a pint you'd find we agree on more than you think

Chris in Tamworth

Can't argue with that Chris even though I'm in the business! What I would say is that no-one (we are not discussing Hillsboro' now btw) has come up with any story that has been made up. We talk round the issue but don't come up with any facts.
On the subject of football writers, a rare breed like Henry Winter and James Lawton, sometimes Martin Samuel - they are interesting. As for John Cross and Lewis at the Mirror and the rest - they know no more than I do about the game. They know no more than you do about the game. They are simply fans with a larger audience than your mates in the pub and access to people in the game. My knowledge and insight into the game is better than many people like Holt, Lewis and Cross and so is yours, the editors' and many of the posters on here. Football journalism is a bit of a sham and flaky at best!

Raheem Sterling gets an invite to play for the GB Team at 2012 Games.
Are all Team GB matches at Wembley ed, do you know?
If he gets a game I wouldn't mind going to see one of them.
The Real KB {Ed002's Note - I think you will find all he has got is a standard letter asking about his availability - there have been a lot of these sent out. The Team GB matches will not be all at Wembley. The schedule is Old Trafford (Thursday July 26), Wembley (Sunday July 29), Millennium Stadium (Wednesday August 1).}

Ah OK ed, thanks very much.

Morning fellow Reds,

I dont write much on here but do visit everyday!

My thought on the season at the minute would be in a c+, could do better, before you ask I am 31 & not in school.

We have played exceptional football at times and have been awful in some games. I would be happy to end the season with 2 cups. Yes I would love 4th place but this is probably a bit beyond us now. We have big games coming up against Chelsea & Newcastle, if we win these we can get 5th but i doubt 4th.

2 cups would be amazing to finish the season with, after our drought & we have european football next year at least.

Everyones expectations were raised with out signings at the start of the season, Downing ( finally a winger), Henderson (great player & still will be in my opinion), Charlie Adam (hoped he could pass like Alonso) and Enrique (enough said).

Players takle time to settle & unfortunately only Enrique adapted to us and enabled him to settle. The others are not quite there yet but I think they will get there with our support. Even Charlie Adam needs it, yes he hasnt been able to pass a ball like Xavi & tries to do it all himself, but getting on his back every week doesnt help.

We will get there and a few tweeks in the summer will go a long way. Some players are needed & we all know the positions to fill. The running saga with Suarez has not helped one bit & I for one just want an end to it.....whether he can get back to how he was last year or to leave in the summer remains to be seen. We need a settled team & everyone fighting for each other (players, manager & fans alike).

Lets get behind the team again on Sunday & become the 12th man they need to enable us to beat Stoke & get back to Wembley for a semi final showdown.

I love this club like you all. Patience is agreat virtue to have (by god we have needed it) but we win together & lose together.

Hi Eds, if you have the time, I would be interested what your thoughts on the following players are?

Kvarme, Cheyrou, Piechnik, Riedle, Dundee, Heskey, Owen, Gonzalez (always thought he should have had another year), Kuyt, Traore and Biscan....

Odd question but I thought I would ask.

Thanks for your time

Crooky

PS keep up the good work {Ed002's Note - We don't have the time to deal with this right now but I am sure some of the regulars will give their input.}

First 5 bad. Heskey very underrated in my opinion. Did his job well for us. Owen would have broken records if he stayed. Kuyt, great work horse, great in big games. Traore was terrible - how he got a champs league medal is beyond me - passion for the club? Biscan was in my opinion terrible and shouldn't have played as many games as he did.

BthekingB

Cheers anyway Eds thought that would be the case.

Still keep up the good work though

Crooky

Do you not thin Mark Gonzalez could have had another year? And Karl Heinz wasnt too bad what I remember?

Mate surely you must have blanked from your mind the ineffectiveness of the following:

Zenden, Meijer, Paul Stewart

My mate still owns a keyring with a picture of sean Dundee adorned with that timeless classic "Quicker than Owen"..possibly conjured up whle young Michael had one of his hamstring days!

DaveinSpain

No mention of Erick Meijer who was lovable but not that good. I think Reidle did a good job for us.

Paule Stewart & Eric Meijer should have been in there - i totally forgot about the latter to be honest! haha

Le Tallec is another & Leonardsen & who can forget benard Diomede!

Ahoy - Nicky Tanner for me everytime (don't forget Torben Piechnik has a great song)

BOILED ONIONS

I think Gonzalez was too fragile for the EPL. No doubt the lad had talent, but in a league with less physicality

Regardless of how well we finish and where we finish at the end of the season, Kenny to get Commoli's job or to move upstairs and Rafa to be brought back. Just stating how I feel, just because its KD doesn't make him immune from criticism, severely lacking in tactic and some very bad buys, throw into the mix that possibly very little talent to arrive during the summer and the other teams above us will in no doubt strengthen, the outlook is bleak for next season. I know we have a trophy but lets face it we weren't that convincing and I take nothing away from Cardiff's performance. For me next season will be very difficult challenge for us to break into the top 4 places, for me there is no light at the end of this very long tunnel. It almost feels as if I have given up hope and I really do hope that I am wrong and I am sure there are many out there who feel the same way.

PaddyB
JFT96

I thoughly understand you frustration at our league position and I may add that KD has got it wrong on a few occasions.

However it must be said that we are now passing and attacking on more regular bassis since Evans era and the proof is in the corners and shots we generate.
The only thing we are missing is goals and should we have scored as much as we should of then maybe we would be in the top 3 by now.

Kenny in my opinion is doing a great job and if you consider we're we was before he took over and the fact he won a trophy in his first year with 6 new players then you must agree that next year could well be exciting.
Raffa shouldnt have gone but he has and now we have a manager who also fights for his players, supporters and belovered club.

In my opinion we are on the right track

16 Mar 2012 10:46:31
Just saw the nextgen game vs Ajax! We were so unlucky to lose 6-0 but the players Ajax have in that youth squad of theres are very very good...the likes of Victor Fischer and Davie Claasen...on another level...also there 2 fullbacks were immense, maybe we should try and lure them to Liverpool

The fact is our youngsters are not the world beaters everyone makes out? they were beaten by a spurs side missing five of their better players due to them being sent out in loan, two of the players they brought in were not registered AND under aged players yet they still beat us regardless of how many chances we created, so let the boys find their own level over the next year or so!

Totally agree. We should have scored the peno or the rebound and we should have buried many chances that we had after that. We should have gone into half time leading and probably could have won the game if we had done that. Time to regroup though.

Rafa had a 5 year plan to win the league it went on nearly 6 years and no joy

Houlier had a 5 year plan to win the league it went on nearly 6 years and no joy

Kenny has a similar plan with the players he bought for the future? (I don't think they were bought for the future I think these players just have not worked out as hoped or planned and since they are young a case can be made for future use. After all did not Kenny himself express the opinion that he wanted better than just top4).

Nobody knows not even Kenny if the players he bought for the future will flourish?

Maybe they will but what if they don't?

What if Kenny keeps going down this road and in the summer transfer windows buys more players that don't have an impact, will they keep being players for the future?

FSG have limited resources what if Kenny uses up those resources for players of the future, he might not but what if, most businesses indulge in the "what if" its part of successful business planning.

Yes Kenny was a great player and a legend but is he the right man to put this long term plan into operation the signs do they look good?

At the moment eurphoria surrounds the team and rightly so because of one man Gerrard but he's getting older (he does not need to be replaced there are no replacements). If Gerrard was not there because of injury or whatever what then? Any time Gerrard has a dip in form he's witch hunted as being finished which is in-correct, he's carried the club for well over a decade. But who in the team Kenny's building can step up when Gerrard can't?

Time to look critically at the team without those rose tinted glasses, all is not well, yes there is a good spine to the team in Reina, Gerrard, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique, Johnson, Suarez, and one or two others but the deepth in the squad is lacking. We have 8 or 9 good players and after that not much maybe that's the reason we stumble from a good result to a poor result.

Patience!

Seriously confused by your post, you talk about Rafa 5 year plan and Houliers 5 year plan but you already have decised that KK should only get 12 months to make it work.

Look at the problem critically and progress of the game.Chelsea may have won the title with mourinho but he splashed the cash and way before he arrived Raniari had actually bought the better players and they actually took more then 5 years to win the league as Matthew harding(R.I.P) actually spent a fortune improving them. Next Wenger walked into a team that was winning titles but needed tweaking rather then overhauling.Man city have now gone into the 4th year and dont seem to have the balls to win the title so 5 year plan.

What our problem is KK came in at the wrong time the team was probably the worst team that any of the 4 managers have had to Im sure even in your most pessimistic state you see an improvement and in your most honest state you know that we need time and investment otherwise you will just keep posting how awful the nesxt 5 managers players are.

I would not say his signings have not improved the team as even the most pessimistic Fifa 12 twitter teenager must agree that Saurez , bellamy and enrique have been excellent signings .Seriously if he gets 3 right a year in 4 years he will have 12 right and then he will challenge.

You say::

Seriously confused by your post, you talk about Rafa 5 year plan and Houliers 5 year plan but you already have decised that KK should only get 12 months to make it work.

I say:
Not really, Kenny is on the same trajectory as Rafa & Houlier going in the wrong direction although a different way then the two above.

Where that feeling that tells you we are making REAL progress?

You say:
Look at the problem critically and progress of the game.Chelsea may have won the title with mourinho but he splashed the cash

I say:
Kenny has splashed the cash and no improvement. And what about the 200M spent by Rafa who proceeded Kenny (Roy as only there six months or so)

You Say:
And way before he arrived Raniari had actually bought the better players and they actually took more then 5 years to win the league as Matthew harding(R.I.P) actually spent a fortune improving them.

I say:
Chelsea were a non entity before the arrival of Roman. And so had a lot of work to catch up on there were never at the races with Liverpool.

You say:
Next Wenger walked into a team that was winning titles but needed tweaking rather then overhauling.

I say:
Wenger was very succesful in his early to mid period at Arsenal.

Sio whats your point?

You say:
Man city have now gone into the 4th year and dont seem to have the balls to win the title so 5 year plan.

I say:
Man city are a club with no history or pedigree and the only way to attrat big name players was to build slowly no big name players would come to themn for the aforementioned reason.

Balls don't really have anything to do with it? For most of the season City have been the outstanding team, no?

You say:
What our problem is KK came in at the wrong time the team was probably the worst team that any of the 4 managers have had to Im sure even in your most pessimistic state you see an improvement and in your most honest state you know that we need time and investment otherwise you will just keep posting how awful the nesxt 5 managers players are.

I say:
I am not down in the doldrums being negative merely expressing an opinion like other have howyou interpret that opinion is entirely yours!

Could Kenny be going in the wrong direction like Rafa & Houlier?

Can that not be questioned?

Nearly 20% of the time of Kenny's five year plan is over and has our leeague form improved?

You say:
I would not say his signings have not improved the team as even the most pessimistic Fifa 12 twitter teenager must agree that Saurez , bellamy and enrique have been excellent signings

I Say:
Yes Kenny's signing have improved the team without doubt, but to what extent?

You Say:
Seriously if he gets 3 right a year in 4 years he will have 12 right and then he will challenge.

I Say:
You could be right assuming all the other players don't age or become injured?

Do you think this may happen?

Patience!

I say:
This post has made me feel dizzy...

I say: is there any point to this? Singred

A bargain at 3.5m

Do you know how true the January story of him being offered to City was Ed?

Bilbao officially became my favorite Spanish club :)

HK

Just Because they beat Man Utd 2time in a week :) they have few very much talented young player.

Bilbao have been my favourite Spanish club for a long time. The reason being is they will only play 'local' players in the team. Id love every team to be able to do the same. My ideal would be to have a squad full of scousers good enough to win the prem.

Not sure if anyone else caught this but, at the end of last night's Chelsea-Napoli match, not surprisingly, Di Matteo was clearly relieved but also, clearly ecstatic...jumping around high-fiving and slapping the backs of his players. He hugged Lampard and actually gave him a kiss. Di Matteo then saw Torres walking ahead of him and he practically ran to him and jumped him from the side. I was shocked to see Torres basically brush him off and just kept walking.

My point here was that Torres was absolutely miserable and showed no reaction at all. His 'bigger club' had just made it to the quarter finals of the CL and while his teammates were over the moon, poor 'Nando was solemn and glum.

My how the mighty have fallen...

On another note, watching that match made me realize how we desperately need to get back into the CL. It brought such great memories of years gone by...has it really been three years...and counting?? Anyway, for a club of our history and stature, it should be a given to be in the CL.

Come on you REDS...let's get our act together...

Digital Man

Di Matteo was promised a contract beyond this season should he keep chelsky in the competition, that's why he was hugging all his players, i'm surprised he didn't hug the crowd. {Ed002's Note - So who made this promise?}

Di Matteo acted no different then then KK he actually a top guy and wish him all the best, unfortunatly he may not get the job but nice to see him do well .Yeah Torres made me laugh it was like Di Matteo actually went up to Cavani and celebrated at least Cavani shook his hand.

I can't really understand why Maxi Rodriguez has been completely shut out of the first team.
I'm not his biggest fan but it's not as though he's got the stiffest competition in the world!
I can see him going in the Summer. Dirk Kuuyt will be off (in my opinion) due to him being overlooked maybe a bit too much.
Glen Johnson may also be parting company and, if true, I won't really be bothered as long as Kelly replaces him.
Assuming we don't get 4th., I can see both Suarez and Reina (?) opting for moves away (Suarez to leave anyway) and Aurelio, Cole, Poulsen etc. will also be gotten rid of (I've lost track, to be honest, of who's out on loan and who we've sold...e.g. Insua,Degen etc.)
Therefore;
OUTS; Maxi Rodriguez, Dirk Kuuyt, Glen Johnson, Aurelio, Poulsen, Cole, Pepe Reina, Luis Suarez, (Insua,Degen), Doni, Ecclestone, Sterling (??...hope not!).
Adam, Henderson, Carroll, Enrique and Coates will all be expected to step it up next season.
Reina's future is a little bit uncertain but I really hope he stays.....however, assuming he doesn't, we'll be scouting for at least two 'keepers.
All the above is supposition....I don't claim any "insider-knowledge" but, having watched all but two games live this season (Spurs and Sunderland away) I feel I deserve a point of view.
If we go on an incredible max pts. run in the last 10 games in the League and win the FA Cup I'll look stupid....happy but stupid!
However, being realistic, we won't.
The FA Cup would be a great coup but consistency in the League has been our Achilles heel for far too long.
The decent performance v Everton mid-week shouldn't be allowed to paper over the cracks.
We NEED a dynamic Gerrard-like creative midfielder to replace Gerrard, a 200% Kuuyt-like RM/RW to replace Kuuyt, a goal-poacher, a goalkeeper and (I've always said this) a top-class Defensive Midfielder in the Didi mould.
Lucas should play more forward as he's not a natural DM, Henderson and Adam as squad-players, Kelly(barring injuries) should play more regularly; Suso,Sterling,Shelvey and Coady to get far more games.
Stevie G scored a hat-trick in the Merseyside derby in midweek so any criticism would be untimely....Carra played ok aswell. Spearing provided a bit of grit.
However, it doesn't harm to look to add quality to your squad....even if it compromises your ethos of local/British players.
Watching Athletico Bilbao absolutely p*ssing all over Man U tonight reminded me of us a few years ago.......fantastic football!
Spearing, Carragher, Kuuyt, Adam and Henderson (at the moment) won't take us to anywhere near that level of crisp, attacking football.
The fitness of players like Gerrard, Kelly and Agger will always be a problem. Lucas Leiva may struggle to regain the form he was showing before his long-term injury and Aurelio is past all hope!
Reina and Johnson may or may not stay, but we still need to address two main issues...CREATIVITY and FINISHING !
How many times this season have we;
a) Played well in two halves of football ?
b) Totally destroyed the opposition ?
c) Snatched your breath away ?
Hope I don't sound anti-Kenny, I'm not.
I appreciate we're competing against money and we're trying to BUILD a squad....but I also feel that there are little gems out there and we should maybe act more quickly re the transfer-market.
Come on you mighty reds !

Find it funny that Manchester United laughed at us when we got into Europe and laughed at us even more only getting to the quarters. Not so funny now is it guys?

Anyway eds, one point I want to ask is if you look at the Spanish divison and compare it to ours - it is far more superior but if you took us back 3 or 4 years we were the most dominant league by far having 4 teams who could easily win the champions league. What went wrong? What has changed the fact that we aren't as dominant? If the 7th place in Spain can absolutely obliterate our Champions and current leaders then what is the future of the Prem and what cause our HUGE decline? Or is there even a decline? Cheers

BthekingB {Ed001's Note - I don't believe it is better overall, Real Madrid and Barca are too far away from the rest.}

Hi Ed001 - I think the point being made is that 7th place in Spain beat the team that may win the Premiership.
What would the top two do to our top four?

The Target Man – their goalscoring records and their ability to bully defences. So how long does it take them to develop their game?

The evidence, which I will come to suggests that, Carroll at 23 is very well developed in relation to other players of his type.

I've always felt that smaller, quicker strikers peak young, and slower, bigger strikers peak later.

Pace can get forwards into goalscoring chances, but without pace, a striker needs to rely on movement, cunning, positioning; these are skills honed with time and experience.

Target Style

Andy Carroll isn't as slow as people make out, but he doesn't have that extra change of pace to get away from defenders that would make him world class, and obviously, when up against fast centre-backs, he can look laboured.

He has good technical ability, in terms of lay-offs and hold-up play, and has a sweetness in his left-foot that many strikers of any size would envy. However, his movement off the ball isn't yet that great.

His status as a 'traditional' no.9 is based on his size and aerial ability, although at Liverpool his heading has been fairly rubbish, evidence of a lack of confidence, given the way he frequently rose to meet crosses with towering headers at Newcastle.

Perhaps this type of player is rarely viewed as world-class player unless they have pace, they find it hard to be consistently devastating – but many have proven increasingly prolific (even pretty mediocre versions, like Kevin Davies), on top of the focal point/spearhead qualities they bring.

Target men peak after 25. peaked aged 25 or over. In other words, three out of every four target-men will have his best season in his mid-20s or later. their best season aged 28 or over, and three of those had their best-ever season in their 30s.

The overall average age for best season for target-men is 26.4, with it standing at 25.7 for players still active in the relevant leagues, and 26.5 for those who have either retired or moved to less-competitive environs. Compare this with the average age of 23.4 for the peaking of the 11 non-target-man strikers, and again, it suggests that although they may not burn as bright to start with, they come into their own later in their careers.

None of this means that Carroll will develop into the kind of striker he has the potential to become; the no.9 Rio Ferdinand felt could be 'unplayable'. But it does go to show that even though he's not the finished article, he's arguably ahead of many of the great names we now look back on as masters of the art at the same stage of their careers.
