Well what a mess. A big big reality check tho. No need to name, names today - all the team was well below par.
However, two things stand out to me. Firstly, I think Allen needs to be left out of the team until next season. He has really struggled in our mid-field and much more worrying, BR keeps playing him? He is obviously struggling - so please put him and us out of our misery- send him for his op. Secondly, we were so poor in the first half today that BR must like watching us play like that because he never changed it. Do we have the only manager who thinks two in the middle is enough? We cannot keep papering over the cracks!!

Our beloved team is not getting any easier to watch. I don't get what BR is doing. Where is the slick passing and great movement. Sorry Brendan it all seems like a lot of hot air.
We played better, more attractive football last year and if we hadn't hit the bar 30 times, maybe we would be playing attractive football this year.

I will always keep the faith, but it is hard work at present.

All these people saying BR out, and throwing names of other managers around.
Strange thing is I don't remember a long line of "TOP" managers knocking at the door when kenny got sacked?
Did I miss the day mourinhio was in town Ed?

Over the last ten games we have the same points as the gunners and more than everton despite todays result.
But people thinking we could go on a massive run and get CL football are a little crazy. Here is a reallity check we are a massive 29 points off the leaders and they have a game in hand, we are only 22 off the bottom of the league having played the same games, now given we have only equalled the gunners points total over the last 10 games we would probably have had to have won all 9 remeining games to have any sort of chance, and as we had won the previous 3 that would have meant a run of 12 consecutive wins.
The all time record for consecutive wins is I believe 14 by the gunners, so expecting a side that is currently 29 ( possibly going to be 32 ) points off the top to get anywhere near that kind of form is quite simply mad. We only really have the one holding mid in the squad so he was a bit stuck when he got injured, its the same issue that Kenny had to be honest, and he use to try adam and henderson in there, maybe he should have played the numbers game and gone 3 in the mid? but the front 4 have been all playing great so maybe he thought he had to much for them.
All week we have all been saying we need to buy a ( or more ) CB and cover for Lucas, this has just proven that.
And as for all these calls for "give the kids like Suso, adorjan and sterling a go"? what are we going to drop Allen, Henderson, Sturridge, Couthinio? all those 20-22 year old veterans. They need game time, they need to play together, experince and confidence.
At 3 this afternoon BR was the saviour according to most on this site, at 5 it's all sack him and he hasn't got a clue, He's a young manager he's still building a squad, he will make mistakes everyone does but he deserves a bit better than he's got today on here. If our manager gets that god knows what crap the Ed's have to put up with. all BR's signings have been attack minded so far, the next window he will address the deffence, then after a full pre season we will see a BR team and we can judge him properly, untill then let's try to support the man.

World class post RN red

It's interesting that the only defender to really shine in this new system that offers less protection to the defence is Carragher. Shows his true world class ability. Such a shame he is at the end of his career now. MS was probably our best defender last year, but that was with a defence that sat very deep and 2 deep midfielders right in front of them.

16 Mar 2013 22:17:36
I really think some of the people on here are acting like spoilt brats. We were beaten by the better side but we have always found Southampton away a tough fixture. So let's say congratulations to the saints.

Lets just be patient we have a real top manager given time.

16 Mar 2013 23:26:43
Mate can you tell me what has Rodgers achieved to ba called top manager

Good shout fella

17 Mar 2013 11:19:29
No we were not beaten by a better side. Our manager set us up for destruction and that's what makes us worried. Aren't you worried we could have conceded 5 yesterday?

16 Mar 2013 22:09:43
jekyl and hide springs to mind with this team and you don't win the midfield battle with a dwarf like allen

Maybe we should join La Liga. We too soft for EPL

16 Mar 2013 22:09:02
We got beat, it happens! Deal with it, we aren't a top team at the moment and have a long way to go before we can challenge to get back in the top 4! It's time to wake up to the fact that we need to sort our defence out, it's been our problem all season long! We need to get rid of glen Johnson, skrtel, Coates etc. Plus carragher is retiring at end of the season so there's a lot of work to be done in that department and Rodgers knows it! I say keep Reina but get a new back up goalkeeper to push him because jones isn't good enough IMO!

Hi all, not a rumour but want people's thoughts on how possible it would be for us to go for isco. If we should go for any player this summer he is my choice. I would also go hangerland to replace skyrtl (who was poor again today) and mignolet for reina if he goes.

Eds,

Is there some way to organise some sort of IQ test as a pre-requisite for positing on this site.

Thanks

Just posts from Oxford and Cambridge for you is it??
I don't think you need to be clever to post on here - just passionate. Everyone is entitled to their opinions no matter how distasteful or unpalatable they may seem to you, or anyone else.
Surely, that's the point of this site?

DJC

Those posters with their own opinions get abusive when people don't agree with their opinions.

Still trying to figure out how to 'positing' on the site? Lol

Not necessarily clever, just sensible enough not to be an person or post varying degrees of either hatred for rodgers and he players or love for the same people week after week

.
Would you change your winning formation to accommodate Kenny daglish if he was in his prime.

Suarez plays excellent up front all alone.

we need 3 men in midfield.

BR changed the formation to accommodate sturridge?

isn't his tiki taka style is 4-3-3?
y is he playing 4-4-2.
if we don't win the midfield. we are screwed.

and with 2 men. away. is impossible.

this tactics is known to any kids.

Torres. was alone upfront. never needed to play with another striker.
all he wanted was alonos, gerrard, bennayon, kuyt, and riera. rest he did.

suarez. is excelent upfront all alone.
all he needs is countinho, downing, gerrard, henderson.

4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. would have won the game.

I was warning here.
Sturridge has become fan fav. and BR won't drop him for any sake.

harry scouser
ynwa

BR needed to make a few changes because of injuries, but the changes he made were wrong. The changes he made tactically was not wrong just diabolical, I think he is trying to show he is a tactical genius, but this game proves how inept he is.
Bobbinred

We don't play 442 when Sturridge plays it is 4411 with suarez playing the linkman/10.

You say if we played 433 or 4231 we would have won that game. What 433 formation are you talking about or are you talking about all of them?

4411 is pretty much 4231 with the wingers less advanced up the pitch.

Today was just not our day. No carra or reina and Lucas had a slight knock, don't think the formations or line up mattered, every team can have an off day from barca to stoke. The only thing that can make this result worse is to start pointing fingers each other (IMO we are all part of lfc) and stop acting like spoiled kids every time we lose a game. BR IS STILL THE RIGHT MAN IMO

Oh and Harry if Sturridge is undropable. Would you say that Allen won't ever be played again cause of no support for him.

17 Mar 2013 07:55:07
both are br signings.
its clear suarez scored his goals most. up front all alone.
y is he being played a false no. 10?
is that not coz. to accommodate sturridge who was sitting the bench at chelsea and won't tolerate to warm the bench at Liverpool.
common.
4-4-1-1?
thats nonsense.

whichever formation we play. we will concede goals.
but if suarez was up there on alone and we had 3 men in midfield. we would have had better possession. better chances and scored some goals.

I bet you. sturridge won't be dropped ever. unless he has an injury

harry scousser
ynwa

Assiadi and borini are also BR signings so undropable is rubbish.

You say that 4411 is nonsence and then say that Suarez is being played as the number 10.

16 Mar 2013 21:25:55
the reason the players were so poor to day is probly because they all dropped there heads when they saw an injured allen starting when he has been crap when fit. add to that skrtel, johnson not making a pass, enreque looking for a long ball to suarez every single time witch made us lose the ball and not be able to build up your play. really disapointed with br. if he is going to select allan over lukas next season we will not finish higher than we are now.

Crap when fit? we won our player of the month and has been nursing a shoulder injury for months.

If Allen isn't performing because of an injury, then surely he should have the operation now, and play a fit player like Henderson, who was having his best spell since we bought him, instead of persevering with a player struggling with an injury

16 Mar 2013 21:22:18
Do many of you guys realise that you are making LFC fans look like absolute tools? Last week I made a comment about being surprised about Coutinho being taken off, not being disrespectful to BR at all, just a passing comment and got jumped on by people claiming he is the tactical messiah! This week he should be thrown to the lions because we lost! Really, if you are going to throw your toys out the pram everytime we lose you should either a) pick another sport to follow or b) pick a team that wins all the time! I'm as gutted as everyone else that we lost today, especially considering other teams results, but this is football - it happens sometimes! Have you any idea how stupid some of you sound? It's no wonder so many other supporters take so much pleasure in watching us lose! We do all te things we criticise others for! Blaming refs, and Brendan, and picking on individuals. when we have won we are world beaters, when we lose we are going to get relegated! Oh and then there's the abuse of the Eds! Get a grip and support our beloved team. The season isn't over yet, let's see where we end up before making a scene.

Super

I couldn't agree with you more Super.

Great post mate, one minute they say he's taking us in the right direction next minute they say he's out of his depth - Rome wasn't built in a day

Well Ladies & Gentlemen, that's what you get when you have an inexperienced manager in charge of a Footballing Goliath.

It was a simply unacceptable, inept, inadequate, passionless, tactically naive and woeful team performance.

Like I said we are nowhere near a top side and don't deserve to be near the top four.

The team was being lauded for not losing four games. - big deal. but we can't even beat the likes of Southampton!

Our team has been flattering to deceive. '4th spot, we can make a charge for it'. er no sorry, our team is nowhere near good enough, tactically inept, bereft of a winning mentality and led by a clueless manager.

We aren't making any progress at all, BR is not good enough and FSG would be wise not to entrust him with a sizeable transfer budget.

As for the players. simply couldn't be bothered could they or do they simply not want to play for us fans and the manager.

The scoreline could have been a lot worse. and the players should if they have any decency pay for all the travelling supporters who attended today.

TIME TO WAKE UP PEOPLE - WE ARE ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE, A TEAM IN DECLINE WITH A CLUELESS MANAGER WHO WILL OVERSEE IT. TIME TO CONSIDER YOUR POSITION BR.

M

A downward slope? If the premier league table started after Christmas we'd be 3rd

We need 8 points out of a possible 24 available to beat last season's points tally in the league.

We've *already* scored 10 more goals in the league than the whole of the last season (Remember we couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo?)

We've added 2 quality (young) forwards for a combined transfer fee of slightly more than what Stewart Downing cost.

We've played sublime football at times and absolutely destroyed teams.

You're absolutely right, no progress here.

Today we were beaten by the better side on the day, with an element of fortune on the free kick to make it 2-0.

Them's the margins.

Sometimes you need to take a step back.

Then you might see the whole picture.

16 Mar 2013 23:26:47
to matt.

dude u are making me laugh.
are we in top 4??.
can u guarantee we will next year.

a top team in known for winning the medals. competing in top competition year in year out.

not climbing from 9th to 8th.

you have stats. so did allen had.

whats the outcome?

How did City get on at St Marys? Didn't it take a last minute goal from United to win there? Get a grip, bad day at the office, move on!

The out come is 2011/12 carling cup winners, fa cup runners up. 2012/13 nothing. that simple

16 Mar 2013 21:03:23
Ahhhh. Seriously frustrated. Are we a team on the up or a team in decline. Watched the game we could have been 4 0 down in the first half with no complaints. Is this really acceptable? Am trying to get the positives but are we really getting better? We play great football and everyone can see progress? where? does the league table lie? I seriously feel the whole identity of the club is getting lost or has it already been lost. I don't want a change again as much as everyone else but where do we stop & say no this ain't working? Now, next season, season after?. Why do we hear the words progress when we are out of all cups and floundering round mid table. If progress is being made show us the proof. Fed up like us all a seriously f"""d off.

To be entirely honest, you are in transition. Maybe next year eh?

AJH

Its ONE GAME! Cheese and rice, get over it. I tell some people on here I say do be probably to depressed to eat for days I say after a bad result

16 Mar 2013 21:02:02
I think BR is trying to hard to prove to the world that Allen was a good signing. I am not saying he won't be, but he hasn't been to date, so his starting over Hendo is really, really a poor move. I suspect we were all worried when we saw the starting 11. Allen was really hapless again. I think he needs to rest for the remaining games, and start fresh next year.

16 Mar 2013 20:58:26
I feel like I am going insane! Isn't Allen injured? How can a player in poor form, who requires surgery, be starting over Henderson? Hendo was finally showing his ability and now he is a bench warmer again, while Allen gets nod after nod, irrespective of form (and health).

Not to say Allen was the only weak link today, but he wasn't helping the cause.

Canada Red

16 Mar 2013 21:37:44
thats coz. BR wanted to show the world. that his signing is pretty good. in actual he is awful

16 Mar 2013 20:57:05
joe allen needs an operation on his feet not his shoulder. again rodgers gets it wrong from the start. needs to get this sorted and stop giving teams a head start.

16 Mar 2013 20:57:04
This page should be called DREAMS & NIGHTMARES!

I'd call it the Devils playground

I'd call it Muppets Treasure Island

16 Mar 2013 20:55:51
I am not sure if fans of every team feel like this. so much to cheer for going into the game today, and you could have called it from the opening whistle. Our beloved team seems to have a knack for tempering enthusiasm. I feel sad at the moment, but another win and I am sure I will smile again.

Coop

Changing the team and tactics does not give the team the confidence. They don't seem to know from one game to the next what the are supposed to do, it's hard enough to adapt to tika taka without adapting to the other changes BR makes

16 Mar 2013 20:47:07
Hope to see henderson next week talented lad who deserves to be started a few more games given form of allen and injuries to lucas

16 Mar 2013 20:46:00
Priorities must must be central defenders this summer. Carra retiring, skrtel and yes even the so called world class Daniel agger are just simply not good enough. It will be be interesting to see who we sign in these vital positions, but whoever we get must be able to first and foremost be able To actually defend, not just look good on the ball when the pressure is off.

Said exactly the same regarding Agger earlier mate, and Johnson! Great when teams rack up at Anfield and defend for their lives, give them some defending to do and both more often than not come up short.

A DM needed too. Teams just stroll through us so easy

Davey

Stefan vrij and mamadou sakho would be great signings for Liverpool.

16 Mar 2013 20:41:57
Lets be honest lads. Was anyone really surprised today? I think K. Walsh had it pegged days ago in his column. We aren't ready to make the next step, and haven't been for 23 years. Perhaps next season, without European football or star players to please we will have a team willing to play every game

16 Mar 2013 20:28:02
I know everybody says Downing was awful but is slowly starting to improve. Just wanted to give a shout out to him today as he was one of the only players who actually wanted to win. He was sprinting up and down the line, providing some creativity and helping out defensively. I don't care if he does not have the skill of what our fans want. But I'll take him any day when he works that hard for the club. Downing works hard to keep his spot in the team.

Downing is turning into our new Dirk Khuyt! he's not what we wanted or doing what we expected him to come and do. However he is a grafter and is very slowly winning fans around to the fact he plays for the shirt!

16 Mar 2013 20:17:12
We we're second to everything today and that's only because it was impossible to be third. We've got to learn to play against physical sides, we were bullied off the pitch.

On the positive side, I like the look of Coutinho more and more he looked like he was playing a false no 9 at some point? Well whatever he was doing it was more effective than at left flank.

We were not second to goals conceded.

You were not bullied off the pitch-you were outplayed by a fitter and more skillfull side. The Pinks (you were Reds but after being taken to the cleaners yesterday you need to be retitled) have serious problems with players who are only able to relive their best years when they are given time and space.
I think you will find Saints are top of the fair play league, certainly not bullies.
Yesterday only served to expose the huge rebuilding job you have on your hands and that should be your concern, because I do not see your owners willing to dig that deep again.

16 Mar 2013 20:16:23
I haven't seen the game or anything but is it coincidence we lose badly when Allen and Skrtel return to the line up?

I don't rate either

16 Mar 2013 20:12:15
It is surely now obvious that we can't make a european place. so iwould suggest it is time to see what certain players can do.

1. suso please, please brendon give the lad ago in his proper position (attacking midfield).

2. give henderson a run in the team he deserves it.

3. play one of the younger centre backs, perhaps wisdom or kelly if he returns from injury.

4. IAM GOING TO BEG AGAIN PLEASE GIVE SUSO AGO.

eds what's your opinion. what benefit is br getting continually playing players who won't be at the club next season

16 Mar 2013 20:06:55
oh my lord

brendan you were awful today

allen is injured isn't he

2 in midfield when spurs destroyed us that open last week

my god how many errors did he make today

too sloto make telling substitutions

it was clear after ten mins we were being battered in the middle and were short a man in there. we conceeded one. he did nothing, we gifted them two golden opportunities. he did nothing
they scored again

we got one back amazingly

second half finally allen off

bossing it then pochetino cunningly takes off ramirez toshire upthemidfield. does rodgers react no he watches dumbfoundedly as southampton take control of the middle of the park and eventully score

then he decides to bring on hendo, who should have been on the field after 10 mins

naieve pathetic managerial performance

totally out thought and witted by his oppositenumber today

the players casual complacent, didn't start until the fortieth mnute

allinall what a rubbish day that as

And I bet u posted last week how excellent br was

17 Mar 2013 08:30:36
Your pathetic Tom, get a grip lad.

We lost, the team hasn't become useless in a week, and neither has B. R.

Other teams are allowed tactical plays too.

Before Soton a post like this would have had 0 agrees, wow you people really are fickle.

Coutinho and Suarez were linking the play and dropping deep in the 2nd half to link the play, and by this point we already had 3 midfielders on.

Despite the flawless tactical knowledge you clearly have, i'm pretty sure B. R knows more than you, more than any of us in fact.

Or else why are we sitting here, and B. R is sitting in the hotseat?

Allen: Lucas had a niggle, and players who are out of form don't regain it on the bench. He was praised earlier in the season.

Praise when its due criticismtoo

todays result was solely brendan s fault

16 Mar 2013 20:01:41
Rodgers was, is and will probably always remain a nobody. I wasn't too chuffed when he was appointed as I felt there were more accomplished candidates we could have got such as AVB, Van Gaal, Laudrup or Low but was prepared to give him a chance. However his performances to date have confirmed my initial suspicions that LFC is an appointment too soon for him. Appointing a relative rookie wouldn't be so bad in the lower leagues where you can afford to make mistakes and learn your craft, but in the Premier League it is suicidal. We're not going to finish higher than last season barring a miracle, which begs the question of why Kenny was axed so soon. Yes he made a terrible signing in Carroll and overpaid for a couple of others but if FSG are going to be fair and consistent they should also be looking at the waste of money that are Allen and Borini. Rodgers was brought in to improve on last season, and if he can't then we should be in the market for a manager who can, preferably someone witha proven track record in a top European league.

You couldn't have got any of those managers especially low

Any of those names in that list would have given their left arm for what remains one of the most prestigious posts in world football. But FSG wanted a yes man and they got one. {Ed001's Note - no they wouldn't.}

What did you think after the Spurs result?

I thought we were fortunate to get the win but played well barring the trademark set piece errors that led to their goals. But we had Carragher instead of Skrtel and Lucas in place of the awful Allen. Rodgers tinkered with the spine of a successful team yesterday and paid the price

16 Mar 2013 19:58:45
Abismal performance more than result.
Wrong line up from BR, why would you replace an out of form allen with an inform and only decent defensive midfielder we have. Allen tried but was given no help by our attacking players. Its all well for gerrard and the forwards to attack but you have help the team in defense aswell'
Skrtl was really poor but we know he's going in the summer so his heart probably wasnt in it which is unacceptable and surprisingly agger is making more. defensive errors. We lacked leadership and carrager at the back massively. We have talented youngsters in kelly and wisdom but whos going to guide them? We need IMO an experienced CB in the summer and the young feynord CB, then we can talk about challenging when our defense is sorted. In the mean time i'd like BR and mike marsh to sort out the defense

16 Mar 2013 19:58:39
Hello to you all. I'm not hear to have a dig, but it makes me chuckle how the majority of you couldn't praise sturridge enough when he turned up and scored 2/3 goals. Now he's not scored in a handful of games and you've realised what he's really like and most of the reason we sold him your all slating him. It's quite laughable how fickle the majority of you 'fans' really are!
TcBlue.

16 Mar 2013 19:52:15
On a less important note, I suppose Van Persie will be voted player of the year, We'd all love it to be Suarez but we know that's not going to happen, no matter how well he plays or how how many goals he scores.

Personally, I think this is a bit of a joke seein as I can't remember the last time Van Persie even scored a goal for United, has he even scored a league goal this year, ]

Anyway, just tryin to take my mind off our result today

16 Mar 2013 19:23:00
Getting away from the fact that BR messed the team selection right up, we were still awful. That team should have still gave a better account for themselves than that! Poor Rodgers has his work cut out for him in the summer trying to get a team together he really has.

Don't just disagree and run away, please tell me what there is to disagree with!

Poor Rodgers, would be much better off, if he had a experienced No 2, who would actually tell him to think again when he makes a balls of a team selection / tactics / subs, can't believe that it took him 83 mins to bring on Hendo, the game was truly gone, and the team had all but given up.
redforever

You serious? the line up was solid our best starting XI with the exception of lucas I the reason we lost because we were outplayed by the better team on the night no team wins every match just bad timing by lfc due to our run but BR can't be blamed for every loss and this one he def did nothing wrong

16 Mar 2013 19:15:25
Some real numpteys on here, When we win everyone's on about how great the manager is and we're only a few players short of being a top side, then we lose and BR isn't good enough and all the players are useless. We're all dissed pointed because we were hoping to challenge top for but we haven't been in there all season which tells us where abouts we are as a team at the moment. We've been to inconsistent, either fantastic or awful so to expect us to win 7 or 8 of are last 9 games would be a little unrealalistic.

I think we're improving all the time, look a threat going forwards with real pace in the team, something we haven't had for some time. The main problems are at the back which is a area BR will be looking to strengthen in the summer.

With a few more additions plus players like Allen, suso, Sterling having there first season under there belt, I can only see good things. Not saying we'll defiantly finish top 4 next season because there's 6 other clubs who'll be thinking the same and most with bigger spending power than us, so will be difficult.
Keep the faith

I greed with your post untill you mentioned the other 6 clubs having more to spend than Liverpool, I presume 3 of the clubs are spurs arsenal and everton, the spend of the whole 3 of them together over the last 2 years is most likely less than lfc and they aren't bankrolled by a billionaire consortium.
anon {Ed001's Note - actually Spurs do have billionaire owners bankrolling them and Arsenal and Everton both have billionaires on their board, just not ones who bother to put their hands in their pockets.}

16 Mar 2013 20:14:09
Mate I still don't understand when we win its because of Rodgers when we lose its because of players.

If rodgers is reponsible for wins then his responsible for losing, its simple as that.

You have fallen under the Rodgers spell.

It's fans like yourself why LFC currently stand a mid table team. Like we get told to go support someone like Chelsea man city etc. The Same could be said for fans like you!. Go support stoke, Swansea, even the other crap across the park if u think this is acceptable for our great club!
LIVERLAD

Liverlad

What's the alternative. Sack another manager, let him bring his own players in, then if that does work sack him. It takes time to build a team unless your given 200+ million to buy the best players. We've not won the league for over 20 years so if we have to give BR 5 years to build a title winning team then so be it. So unless you know a multi billion investor who wants to buy the club, then you need to think more long term and give the manager time. If then things are no better then we can call for change.

BILVERSTONE

200 mil? You do realise rogers has spent nearly a third of that since he took over and where do we sit in the table. I am quite aware it takes time to build a team however I would expect to see progress with that money spent not decline!
LIVERLAD {Ed001's Note - you are the very definition on knee jerk looking back through your posts. One game full of praise, the next everyone must go. Stop being such a brat and don't ever tell people to go and support someone else like you have on a post of yours (a completely asinine and pathetic post at that) that I deleted.}

Well said Ed001. The way some are moaning on here this evening you would think we lost the last 5 games. Yes today wasn't pretty and the loss hurts but it bloody well happens.

Nice reply ed001. I was disappointed by todays result but not wholly surprised. Southampton have been playing well and are difficult to beat. Getting rid of a manager after one full season in charge would be (when he is changing our style of football) would be lunacy. I agree with an earlier poster that it may take five years to get back were we once were. If we get another manager in next season he will probably do what Rogers did this season and change the squad again (not liking certain players who will fit into his style of football). Ok it might work or might not, who knows but would probably cost more money from the owners who have invested heavily already. What we have to do is rebuild the hierarchy of future managers within the club with the ideal candidates being Carragher and Gerrard. We have got to be more consistent not only on the pitch but off it with regards to making any improvement for the long term.

Shocking today, no desire no passion totally wrong attitude! We think we win a couple and all we have to do is turn up.

The players badly let Rodgers down today but he must take the blame too. Why change a winning team? Had almost a week off so tiredness should be no excuse! OK Carra was injured but why drop Lucas for Allen? What has Allen done to deserve a game ahead of Henderson and Lucas in the last 4 months?! Lucas has a niggle he says? Well Allen needs a shoulder op which could keep him out for three months so explain that one to me!

The whole team were dreadful but Allen atrocious. Skrtel, don't get me started on him he is nowhere near good enough! Rash and always out of position and I am going to get slated here but Agger is not much better. He's great when away teams stick 11 behind the ball and he can pass and bring the ball out but give him a game when he has to defend and he is no good.

The whole defence is poor and any team that has even the slightest go at us. Well I'd wager we concede at least two most times. Won't win many like that.

Johnson, like Agger, great going forward but far too lazy to bother with his defending and Sturridge, well he too is showing how lazy he is. 100% effort should be the minimum and if you have a bad day then I can forgive but I will not forgive not trying!

Not a millions miles from being a good team but well off being a top team. The defence needs a complete overhaul and we are desperate for some steel in midfield. We get overran so easy in there. Attack is starting to gel but another striker come winger needed too I feel.

Thanks,

Davey

16 Mar 2013 20:22:46
Davey mate this is the same defence which last season was best, problem is their is no protection for them this season at the sametime they are being ask to play highline which makes difficult. Even the world best defenders will struggle without protection from midfied and playing highline with attacking fullbacks.

Having watched the game, and read lots of posts, yours Davey is one of the best, I think we started off so badly because of team selection / tactics, how on earth do you start this away game without our two main defencive players, and just two in midfield was suicide, even Stevie G gave up 2nd half, we were just awful, not going to give names, but we all know who needs replacing.

16 Mar 2013 19:13:42
I think its getting clearer why chelsea sold sturridge to us?very annoying and selfish and lazy all he wants is for everyone to pass the ball to him to do what he likes. is rodgers trying to say allen who has been poor most of the season is a better choice than hendo, gerrard had to practically play for both of them it was like we had just one cm on the field.
Why can't rodgers and the team learn, anytime we start getting carried away about top4 we put in a terrible performance next
Brendan needs to stop with this formation anytime we play away. he needs to drop sturridge or whoever and play our normal 3midfielders (lucas gerrard and hendo)and coutinho and downing supporting suarez. rodgers keep saying danny is better through the middle all I can see is suarez is far better there than danny. borini even has better movement than sturridge

KUNLE

This was what I was sadly expecting when we signed Sturridge.

16 Mar 2013 19:06:46
If we want a young, talented manager the answer is Sammy Hypia.
Mircea

16 Mar 2013 20:43:02
Mircea bringing hypia won't solve our problems, they are no young managers who can fix our problem in 3-4 year or can carry Lfc expectation, AVB is big example when he was at Chelsea, Liverpool are big club so expectaion are high and every mistake will be exposed by fans and media. We need top manager who can carry our expectation.

16 Mar 2013 19:06:31
Rodgers again showed his inexperience today. Poor team selection. Joe Allen. what a expensive mistake. No doubt we will get rid for 3 million in the summer.
I have said this before. Rodgers never made it at Reading, never made it at Watford, managed Chelsea u18s, and just about had a mid table finish with a team he inherited at Swansea. so what are his credentials to manage LFC. None.
No improvement on last year.

Should never have got the job after one season in the prem. next season will be the same as this. doesn't learn from his mistakes.

16 Mar 2013 19:03:04
First of all I think everyone needs to calm down on slating Rodgers and hammering the team for one performance, all week it has been all positive and for last couple of weeks and suddenly one bad result and people are on their backs, how are they ever supposed to build up any confidence or develop our young potential if this is how we react to every poor result. Yes we were awful today but in fairness Southampton were very good and this is a team who deserved points against both manchester clubs but were unlucky on the day so by no means a terrible team, they may be in relegation trouble but that is more due to inconsistencies than ability, at their best they do play some good stuff and are well capable of beating any side having an off day. However I do wonder about the tactics of Rodgers in relation to Allen, I can see that despite his poor form and lack of confidence he could be a decent squad player with potential in the right system however if we are going to play one striker, one off and two wide men then that only really leaves two central midfield slots and I just do not see how he fits into such a system. When we signed him I imagined it was part of a midfield three playing between Lucas who would be holding and Gerard who would be attacking but in the current system he is too deep to support coutinho Suarez sturridge and downing but not capable of Plato g a defensive holding role so I just so not see a future unless our current system adapts or changes. Finally I think it is clear that skrtel is jot the player e was and looks like a man short of confidence and out of favour and form so I see this as a good opportunity to give sama and wisdom some game time at cb and see how the handle in the top flight in this position, we may as well give some youth a go as we no longer really have any ambitions of fourth spot so why not give sama and adorjan and ibe and magaulin and coady some game time. Eds do you think there is any chance of agger gettingr a go in cdm? I think he is a great talent and love him as a player but just isn't commanding enough for me as a centr half?
Cheers
Alex {Ed001's Note - no, he isn't mobile enough for that role, it is nonsense to suggest he could do it.}

We cannot pay 15m for a "squad player" - this is what happens when you rush your purchases - there was no need to buy Allen as we already had Hendo and Jonjo to cover. In fact I can't see how Allen adds more to the team than Jay Spearing

Agreed at least spearing shows some passion

I agree, that was my point he is a decent squad player but no more than that so I cannot see why he was bought as he isn't the right standard and doesn't even seem to fit into the role he is being played in. However now we have the dilemma of what to do with him as he has been of no use to us since Xmas especially but no chance of offloading him

16 Mar 2013 18:55:24
Who would you prefer out of david moyes and brendan rodgers as both sides of merseyside are complaining about there managers! What do you think?

We will talk in 10 years
stupid comparison

Hard to say really, david moyes has been at everton 11 years, and won nothing, yes its a decent side, and deserves to be in the top six, BR needs a couple more seasons, a lot of players and a lot of luck.
redforever

Rephrase that to imagine how good everton would be with the money that Liverpool have had to spend in the last 3 years alone or yet again in jan what was it 20 odd million on two players well there is your answer!

Imagine if Everton had sent 100m in the last three years they would be winning cups and definetly in one of the the champions league places next year!

16 Mar 2013 18:44:45
Wow how we were awful without carragher why did we play skrtel first goal he could have stopped but. We lost. Sturridge wow his performance was awful alongside johnson skrtel and Allen Gerrard too slow suarez was isolated we were better defensively with Lucas but too late we need someone bigger in the middle like most teams have yaya toure for instance he wins most balls we need someone like him in the middle, and much better defenders ohhh how we have fallen with our defense since Steve Clarke left

And the king ok shoot me

16 Mar 2013 18:38:05
Rubbish not stringing results together, you never play unfit players and however bad people think of Henderson he should be in the centre I have never seen a poor midfield like this. rogers has a lot to learn, good ethos but needs a tactical number 2

16 Mar 2013 18:34:47
We are crap all over the pitch. Unorganised in defence, lightweight and lacking flair and creativity in midfield and only one good striker. Sturridge greedy and a showboater.

I like BR but he needs to learn very quickly to just shut up and get on with the job, all these bold statements about how we've turned the corner. I think every time he's came out and banged his drum we've lost the following game!

And what's wrong with Assaidi? Looks a dangerous player to me but he hasn't had a sniff

That does seem to be the case. I remember when he said Liverpool could finish 2nd then went on a bad run.

16 Mar 2013 18:28:21
Guyz no need of over reaction their is no doubt that Rodgers completely got wrong but this things were going to happen when we hired him, he is a young manager with very little experience in highest level but has a philosophy and pontential which our owners and we all fans can see, the only problem is his obssesion with Allen, atleast we need to give him time and backing as this season was all about keeping our house inorder next season is the real test and then we can all judge him properly!

16 Mar 2013 18:23:00
Eds fellow reds. Has our defence gone straight down to Cardiff. this is the worst england side I ve ever seen

Oh Everton fans make me laugh, are you going to get in top 4? Your more deluded than you think. 18 years and you've won nothing. Fact

16 Mar 2013 18:20:57
Welcome back down to earth boys! Thought we lost yas for a while! Top 4 haha! Bitter Blue

How many years have you gone without a trophy? Will you be getting top 4? Lol deluded bitters always make my night

16 Mar 2013 18:20:33
Today's game has shown just how unpredictable our side has become. It emphasised the need go real quality right now and not in 2-3 years. We need players like mertens and schurrle not ince. Ok I get youth is important in the long run and I'm all for giving youth a chance but in doses. If we don't move for quality that available we will become another arsenal, nice football but no success then the quality will never come and our academy will become a feeding ground for the growing better clubs. Also we are lacking serious power and strength in the middle of the park and that needs to be sorted if we are to move forward. Someone like Vidal or capoue should be considered I believe. Just wondering if there's any interest in the players I've mentioned or if you agree/disagree with what I've said

Any reply would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jake

The transfer window ain't open so we can't buy anyone now lol

One thing that I'm seeing throughout the season is that whenever a player, ex player, staff say there is progress or talk about Europe, our performance the game after is dreadful. So keep your mouths shut!

How many times have I come on here and said that 4th place is beyond us this season, but you lot seem to get your hopes up and by doing it you get let down! All I'm saying is be realistic, we aren't good enough to get back in the top 4 yet! So can we please stop the top 4 talk because it ain't going to happen! Stop wasting your time! This sums up a lot of Liverpool fans now a days, they expect to be up at the top when in reality we aren't good enough, it's ok having expectations but we are still in the rebuilding process and are still a way off yet! Today's team selection baffled me also! Rodgers needs to stop making these silly mistakes quickly and start with our strongest team with the players available, without Lucas our defence has no protection at all!

Ack17

Yes but whatever you think about 4th spot surely beating 17th place Southampton was NOT beyond us??

Yeah I agree with you Kelly red

Ack17

Top 4 was a realistic target for us at the start of the season and if we had won today we still would have been in with a shot. What was wrong with the XI yes allen played however rodgers likes allen has worked with him before and hello sees him train everyday whos to say he hasn't been awesome hence the starting pick? having said that would love to see hendo given another chance

It was a bad performance by the lads today, not what you would expect from a Liverpool team. But you can't blame certain individuals or the manager for the result. Skrtel looked a bit shaky as did Allen but Allen was carrying an injury and Skrtel hasn't played in a while. Altogether it was a bad team performance, but don't take anything away from Southampton who were superb! Win together, draw together, lose together.
Bring on the Villa!
Cheers,
LS7.

Another excellent and measured post LS7 - if only the majority on this site shared your sense of realsim

16 Mar 2013 19:28:12
LS7 are you still trying to justify Rodgers selection haha unreal mate.

Even the most fickle fan in the world can tell you that Rodgers horibbly got wrong.

Why change a team who have been winning 3-4 games consistantly?

Why drop Lucas in favour of Allen who has been poor for longtime.

As you say allen is carrying injury then why play him, hendo has been fantastic for sometime but yet his dropped and Allen who has been poor still gets chance to play.

Just look at some stats you will find Liverpool have lost more games whenever Allen has started and Liverpool has won more games without Allen starting!

Well said, LS7. Much better than the recent posts from other supporters, one who thought you were playing at Anfield and poor old Kelly Red who doesn't have a clue where Saints were in the table!

Saints have been playing great the last few matches but have been unlucky. The pundits, and opposition managers, have been saying their teams have all played badly against Saints. It was only Fergie who admitted they were the best side to visit Old Trafford this season and Utd were very lucky to win.

This is a result that should raise some serious questions for your supporters. Any team with the mobility of Saints will take your back 4 apart, so that is a big job to put right. Gerrard is great still if he has time to run the midfield but if put under continuous pressure he can't hack it any more. Suarez will go in the summer, as you all know. Don't think you will see the investment you need to put these issues right-Coutinho must be thinking he plumped for the past and not the future.
Let us know when you want Downing back-think he is still in Shaws pocket!
And Villa will not be easy.

Bang on get an account mate

16 Mar 2013 17:53:27
When are we going to cover the goal posts at set pieces? the second goal today could have been avoided with someone covering the post, it's nieve defending and poor management!

Have you ever heard of an offside trap?

And how many times have we played teams offside from corners this season I think having 2 players on the posts is good def

Second goal was caused by a weak wall for the kick. Sturridge turned his back immediately when he left the ground and deflected it. That's weak defending IMO, be a man and take it on the body, that's why your in the wall.

Kumber
Yes I've heard of an offside trap but u can't be offside from a corner my friend. That's why I would put players on the posts, as long as they run out when the ball is cleared so there not playing everyone onside if the ball gets played straight back in to the box.

16 Mar 2013 17:43:55
So so frustrating. EVERYTIME, everytime I get my hopes up Liverpool do this to me.

With Everton and Arsenal both winning I think we can now definitely say our slim chance for fourth is completely gone.

Lets just play out the remainder of our games and look forward to next Season, while hoping Rodgers and certain players improve, our team can learn to be consistant and maybe even a couple of new faces in over the Summer.

God, it's so depressing, just wish the season was over.

Season is over mate nothing left to play for now

Yes, that's why I said I wish it was over, hmmm

Still 5th place up for grabs which means europe and would mean a good platform for next year so cheer up

And Steven Gerrard is one year older.

16 Mar 2013 17:43:47
Sturbridge has and always will be a lazy selfish player. Against spurs he was hapless, just taking shots at goal, losing the ball, and today we saw more of this. Personally, I would have dropped sturridge, had Suarez play upfront on his own with coutinho playing just behind him. Downing on right, assaidi or sterling on the left, gerrard and Lucas in the middle. Back four would have been Enrique, agger, carra and. Johnson. Joe Allen is going backwards. Henderson should never been on the bench, joe should have!

16 Mar 2013 19:15:31
Sturridge was ok player but the way he started his Lfc career and set the standards high now our fans excpectation are very high, if he doesn't score or play bad fans will crucify him.

16 Mar 2013 21:43:34
plans willl crucify hi coz. he is causing suarez position from which he has scored 26 goals.

But last couple of games, sturridge has seems to have lost his touch and his desire. There was point in the spurs game, he lost the ball and then rather than chase it, he just watched spurs player run and get the ball!

16 Mar 2013 17:37:57
Really depressed at the moment. That was one heck of a bad performance.
Any really hope we spend most of our money on Defence and CDM.
We are in dire need of both. Someone like Benati and De Vrij in CB and a quality CDM like Lars Bender/Capoue/Medel/Camacho. Forget about freebies like Iturra.
A quality RW would be good too but wouldn't loose my sleep if we don't get one in the summer but the others are a must.

16 Mar 2013 17:37:01
The greatest problem in our team is not the defence alone. it`s the centre of midfield also. every team now knows where to hurt us. We are too too too soft centered.

on another note I knew we would be blown apart when I saw the team sheet with allen (his beloved son) and no Lucas or Henderson. tinkering.

Jonhson was the worst player on the pitch. he is taking opponents for nuts, by playing like a dead man, thinking they will let him pass.

Downing, enrique, jones was very good. At least they played for a purpose. Suarez was on the wings more often so as to accomodate the nut on the day i:e sturridge

Just a question. does BR knows the rule, that he can make three substitution in a game, whether we are winning 5-0 or losing 3-1 he only makes two subs. Suso could have unlocked that defence or maybe assadi (but for we don`t know what mystery/reason he is not in the good books of Mr. BR)

16 Mar 2013 17:34:09
Plz can anyone tell me what happen to Allen, can't tackle, can't pass 3 yards neither helps attacking or defending neither keeps possession, he is too lightweight that easily gets push out of the ball. Gerrard today had to defend, attack control the game and carry Allen who has cost us 18M, I thought we bought players to come in and help our team and players rather then our players to babysit them!

Our all hard work against spurs has gone in drain.

Why change a winning team when we are not in europe or any cups and have all time of resting our players.

Only Rodgers can replace lucas in favour of his darling Allen against team who play highline and attacking footy with possession, that was suicidal.

No top4 or europe or cup to show that's how our season has pan out.

16 Mar 2013 17:29:07
The fickle fans on here make me sick!
We weren't at our best today in difficult conditions but Brendan is doing a decent job and utilising a lot of young players in the squad. FFS we were beaten by a team who recently beat Man City, and should have beaten United earlier in the season - we haven't won there in 11 odd years prior to today's game. Lucas wasn't 100% that's why Allen started, Skrtel and Johnson were poor, neither were signed by Rodgers and if we had Pepe maybe we wouldn't have conceded 3.
They played a good game today and a lot of our senior players were below par, you can't always point the finger at the manager the players have to share the responsibility for our failings on the pitch.
We've proved in recent matches we can compete with better teams, a lot of the more knowledgeable fans on this site know where we need to improve CB, DM, RW - when this is done and Rodgers has a decent preseason with the players, we will have a better idea of where we are but the bashing of the manager I find quite sickening especially the plums who say "his substitutions are poor" - we won the game last week after he took off Coutinho and brought on Allen against Spurs.
We used to have the greatest fans in the world but half of you can't wait to stick the knife into BR after a poor result - it's really quite sad.

Nothing wrong with a poor result, but I'm pretty sure it's the fact that we've had to endure a whole Season of them that's frustrating the fans on here.

We've managed to win 3 games in a row all Season, Swansea, Wigan and Spurs, that's pretty embarrassing, (considering the money we've spent too) all our hard work from last week down the drain because we go lose to 17th place Southampton.

Oh, and it really doesn't make a difference if they NEARLY managed to beat United or not, has our club dropped so low that we should take that kinda defeatist attitude.? (Oh well, it doesn't matter that we lost, ya know why, because I heard that team nearly beat Man United once, WOW, pathetic. )

Nothing wrong with fans showing frustration and having a moan, it most certainly doesn't make them fickle.

16 Mar 2013 18:33:50
you actually don't have any clue.
last week we won not because allen came.
coz we made 3 man midfield.

always said we need 3 midfield players to play well.
y is sturridge playing as 4-4-2?

I agree with your sentiments mate, we should just except that the continuity of our team performances is not quite there. You must give credit to the opposition, Saints played well and we didn't.

Oh, and we won the game last week because Spurs made two horrendous errors, nothing to do with Allen

16 Mar 2013 17:27:40
Hi guys first time poster here.
First of all I have to say Kudos to Southampton for playing us of the park with some good pressing and attacking football. I also have to say Liverpool attacked without any conviction and showed us the need/necessity for defensive replacements in the summer. I hope we can recapture the form and winning ways prior to this match and continue to perform well in the remaining matches.
YNWA!

Haha I barely recognized him!

16 Mar 2013 17:20:43
Started the game poorly and never recovered from the early goal - but credit to saints; they play good football and was up for it. Our deficiencies were exposed - we really need a strong defence and centre midfield. Only bright spark was Coutinho - looking the real deal game by game. Not given up on Europe but must bounce back quickly.

16 Mar 2013 17:20:25
At least now all the talk of fourth will be put to bed for another season. Hate to say it but we all know it we are simply not good enough and are far too inconsistent.

I for one have always believed this season would be a 7th position at best from the squad of players we have. BR needs another summer transfer window to get the team he requires to make a challenge for a top 4 spot.

Inconsistency has cost us all season we all know it and so will BR. I believe the entire back 4 and Keeper will see changes during the summer, this is the main area of concern and was evident even against the likes of Wigan where we won 4-0, our defending was horrendous.

BR I believe will continue to make changes and has some big big decisions to make. The likes of Skrtle, Reina, and even complacent Agger are no longer safe.

It's time to trust BR and get behind what he is trying to do, forget this season and let's get behind BR and put some faith in him for next season.

Curled1

With the squad BR has the team should be doing a lot better than they are. We should be no lower than 6th with the players he has. Poor tactics and poor performance from the players.

16 Mar 2013 17:20:23
The thing that hurts more than anything is the manner of the defeat, we were completely outplayed and dominated by a team near the relegation zone and that's truly embarrassing. I know that we are far from being world beaters but for gods sake we made them look like one the best teams in Europe.

16 Mar 2013 17:20:16
This summer should be all about our defence it's been poor for so long now sell Strkel, Agger, Coates and Johnson. Yes Agger I am going to get ripped for saying that but it's true he is not world class he is average simple.

Deanalfie

Completely agree, even though agger has shown how loyal he can be, he just isn't good enough and we need to find quality players, would really like to see kelly at CB for us next season with a new signing like sakho, but that won't happen, haha

Jackoo

Agger average? don't make me laugh

16 Mar 2013 17:18:29
Abysmal performance especially after all the positivity of the last few weeks. Goodbye Europe.
The team as a whole didn't perform too well but I have got to say it was a very naive team set up by Brendan Rodgers.
We started the game playing practically a 424 formation and consequently got totally overun in midfield it was so bad we are very lucky tonight not to be reflecting on our worst ever Premier league defeat? That's how bad it was.
You would never know, watching us that we actually employ an opposition anylist who's job it is to give Brendan a complete run down on our opponents.
Every man and his dog knows that they play with Lambert as a focal point with strong runners from midfield to support.
They were just running through us with no resistence all through the 1st half especially.
Once again we supporters get carried away with a couple of decent performances only to be brought back down to earth with a bump.
The Management shouldn't get carried away? After all they are supposed to be professionals.

Completely agree BR doesn't seem to change the tactics for different teams. Playing with only two in the middle was never going to work and Joe Allen who requires a shoulder op and has been poor most of the season should not have started. Why not play Lucas, Stevie and Jordan in the middle. The problem we now have we Sturridge is that he will always want to play through the middle but that's where Suarez is best played too.

7th still to play for everyone

Despite the agony of today's defeat this post actually made me chuckle - top drawer mate!

16 Mar 2013 17:16:02
If we had a defensive midfielder like Hamman or Mascherano then our defence would be more protected and would leak less.
Lucas is a decent player but he is not a defensive midfielder and he gets bullied in midfield at times jus as Allen does.
However credit must be given to Lucas for his peformances in recent years.
For me we need commander in central defence and a physical pacey defensive midfielder.
These are our two weakest areas in my view.

At last, someone who can give an accurate assessment of Lucas as a player. He's good, but he's by no means great - I saw someone who posted earlier he should be the first name on the teamsheet and one earlier in the week saying he's the best DM in Europe! Get a grip! We need an all action holding player who is better than him for whom Lucas would be an excellent deputy.

Completely agree. Lucas has come on leaps and bounds but is still not a true defensive midfielder we have missed Masch since he left. He was strong, fast and a great tackler. The problem with Lucas is he has no pace so if a player goes past him he is stuffed. Also Stevies pace has gone now so he can't get back like he use to. We need someone like Masc who really offers the defensive cover. Lucas could then be used further forward.

About leaking in goals I agree we need a much stronger DM but all in all our CB's have been extremely poor and this problem of our leaky defense should most prolly be sorted out in the summer.

Havoc's Call

16 Mar 2013 17:15:16
It's fairly evident where the problems in the team lie but BR has to learn from his mistakes. You cannot play two in midfield away, the team constantly get out run - why play joe allen when he needs a shoulder op. The midfield is far too lightweight. there's no physical presence in the centre of the park. Going forward we look fine but far too many players have run straight through the middle of our midfield and defence. MUST be sorted in the summer. Skrtel awful again.

16 Mar 2013 17:14:29
it's time for Johnson to go! Southampton two young full backs showed him up today, he was slow and off form, time to get shut.

16 Mar 2013 17:13:30
Ed's I have faith in BR and his system of passing/movement and high pressing without the ball. But he need players to do it. We don't work well at all without the ball and any players sought would need to do all of the above. Our midfield needs a complete overhaul as well as our defence. they don't seem to have the tactical nouse to track players and spot were the danger may come from.
Defence- to me it is clear how much emphasis has been put on playing out of defence, unfortunatley the art of actuall defending and closing down attackers has been lost in translation. It appears to me you can't teach old dogs new tricks I just hope BR can see this too.

16 Mar 2013 17:12:30
Will BR please stop messing about with the team selection! when is this man going to learn?

16 Mar 2013 17:11:11
Looked like we played extra-time in midweek but not helped by the team selection and tactics. We will learn the hard way to try and be more compact away from home. Crazy team selection!

Ciario30

16 Mar 2013 17:11:00
I am appalled with all the hate for Joe Allen on here. While he's not a world bringer, he is a good player who has a great future and is a great CM when played right. He is NOT a DM or a replacement for Lucas so stop berating him for it!

The problem is that our midfield that is crucial to our style of play only had two men because of BRs team selection. Had Henderson played instead of Downing, Southampton would never have dominated us the way they did.

RedYank

Henderson has been playing well yes your right

Redrob

16 Mar 2013 17:10:37
Just when you thought it was safe to go into the water.

16 Mar 2013 17:09:55
BR has to learn from this- although every manager has a love child he has to realise that buying Joe Allen was a big mistake and also a huge waste of 15m.
Get rid in summer and get Xabi Alonso back who can play in that deep midfield role

16 Mar 2013 19:40:45
get rid of allen.
who will buy. ?
and how much we will loose.
and don't u have shame in begging for more and more money from the owner when u don't know actually whom to purchase?

16 Mar 2013 17:07:55
The year we start winning games like this is the year we win the league.

MIKEY

16 Mar 2013 17:07:28
I just can't defend our purchases anymore. Allen has not done 1 thing to justify his price tag, Borini has been out injured so jury's still out, Caroll transfer will always be etched down in the history of the BPL as the biggest waste of money ever as the British transfer record.

Countinho and Sturridge have been great, now for next season (will this ever end?) purchase some good defenders, quality midfielder or two and get rid rid rid of players who won't fight in the shirt! LFC have been imploding on themselves since 2009 and it doesn't look like changing unfortuently unless something is done.

16 Mar 2013 17:07:20
It is quite simple, the factors that BR is trying to bring in do not exist on a consistent basis, despite the key players being his picks. e.g Allen.

The team and owners can forget any European involvement next year or ongoing if they persist with BR. I've said it all along, he is out of his depth.

They gave KK 12 months only and he won a trophy. Why should BR get any longer if the position at the end of the season is not even one place better?

16 Mar 2013 17:03:33
Skrtel has to go. He's not fitting into our new style of play. We definitely started off too flat. Southampton definitely looked more hungry. Hopefully we take this and learn so we can finish strongly

16 Mar 2013 17:03:26
poor performance today,
SG was poor and so were a lot of others, Brad Jones played well tho
consistency is the thing we have missed most this season.
no knee jerk reactions of sack the manager please, we are better off but after todays results 4th is no longer an option I think, to be fair it was only a hope and a very small one prior to today.

gra2966

16 Mar 2013 17:50:10
Mate which game you were looking SG was poor haha, you failed to point out the actual point

Allen was very poor that SG had to deffend and attack at the sametime babysit Allen

Rodgers got it wrong, why change winning team when we are not in europe or cups.

Why bring Allen who is out of his depth to replace Lucas which is very important role in our team

Why change defend and midfield who have been winnning 3 games on row.

Rodgers was out foxed today, instead of soton winning rodgers just gifted them.

16 Mar 2013 18:38:47
good question. why change a winning 3 man midfield??.
coz to accommodate. fam favourite sturridge up front.

16 Mar 2013 17:03:18
SAF may have looked right at home last night on Red Nose Day. but good to see you sorry lot carrying on the comic relief. Hopefully some1 out there will donate a few players and maybe a proper manager in the coming days. Don't worry always next year. next year to make us laugh a lot louder

Perth!

Who do you support Perth?

I support my legs and they support me

Perth!

16 Mar 2013 17:01:45
Memo to Brendon Rogers.
In future, when (if) team manages to win a couple of games, tell self & players to keep mouth shut about "progress " & "europe" etc!
They never learn.

16 Mar 2013 17:01:28
The supporters who are under the illusion that BR will bring good tidings next year will be very disappointed. He has no clue and he was shown up by a young rookie manager. Allen specialises in giving the ball away and Sturridge is back to his normal game. I hope we don't give this clown more money to waste. {Ed001's Note - a young rookie manager that is older than BR.....}

I hope I don't have to read any more of this clown poster's drivel

16 Mar 2013 17:00:37
We need to find consistency next season. Sturridge missing a few chances as well.

16 Mar 2013 17:00:01
I'm looking forward to 13/14 season that what I will sum up after today's performance,

I don't is it me or many other notice Sturbridge is lazy, and very selfish when it comes to pass the ball specially to Suarez, anyway that's not what I'm bothered about,

I thought for once Johnson was very very poor, so was skertel, Allen was clueless, that made Gerard clueless as well, should have stuck with same team which played against spurs,

Jones kept us in a game and from a very embarrassing scoreline,

I think as a team everyone should accept the poor performance and BR should come out and accept he got it wrong selection wise,

After last week I had a slight belief that we could sneak into 4th, I'm now very assured that wouldn't happen, we won't have any European football next year which could work in our favour if we keep hold of Suarez

Very sad day as a Liverpool fan

DK London

16 Mar 2013 16:59:27
Truly awful today. Right through the team. Johnson, Sturridge, Skyrtel, Allen, Enrique should all be embarressed to pick up their salary this week. One step forward; two steps back. Ho hum.

16 Mar 2013 16:58:56
We've been in great form of late but today not one player has looked remotely bothered or even looks like they want to be there today. Maybe they genuinly thought that all they had to do was turn up.
The will, the want, the drive and correct attitude have to be there for EVERY game if this side want to be consistant and challenge at the top end of the table and for silverware.
We quite simply didn't turn up today, the attitude was awful and quite frankly we got what we deserved.
Let's address those issues, pull our socks up and get going for the next game!

Kev79

How many times will fans state this Kev? We never bloody learn, attitude is all about a collective and the desire to better the group. I hope we get it right in the next few months!

16 Mar 2013 16:58:00
It's simple. Basics - EFFORT, today non exsistant, it's like they think they can just turn up after beating Spurs and win. that attitude needs to be drummed outta them 2. Passing - this Tika Taka rubbish dos'nt always suit the game your in, maybe it's an idea for Rodgers to suggest mixing it up a bit when we need to feed off 2nd balls and create chances because dogs of war tend to beat us up in all areas of the pitch so we don't get the chance to implement it.
3. drop Skrtel, do not play this fool for the rest of the season. he's annoying me more and more, simply refuses to make a challenge, either one massive sulk or is saving his legs for Russia.
4. I do think Allen will come good but right now he needs to be selected for certain games and Rodgers can't see it as it's his baby. why the hell Lucas was dropped irrespective of the spurs effort I'll never know.
5. A talker - Rodgers always strikes me as a weird character, often looks lost with no suggestion or bollocking on touchline so no one to scare the rubbish outta us.
6. Gerrard, often not a great talker/motivator on the pitch, try's to do it with his feet but sometimes needs a Keane like talker to get players into shape a wake up.
None of that today.
Problems.

16 Mar 2013 16:57:51
Totally deserved loss today. Nobody on our team was up for it. All we can do now is play our best till the end of the season. Well done Soton.

Trishan

16 Mar 2013 16:56:55
never felt more like singing the blues when everton win and Liverpool loose, today is the reason why you are no longer a big club and won't get in europe,

southern everton fan

You nimrods are no better seeing how your team just about cheated your way to an undeserved win

Back in the box mate, you're what sixth in the league? Sixth in the league and this is Everton having one of their best seasons in living memory, that just shows the standards of the average Everton fan. We're not having a great time at the moment so I'll give you some leeway but answer this, what have you won in the last twenty years? We've won won twelve trophies in that time even though we've been average in the league so when you're actually in the same park as us then you can gloat till your hearts content.
Jud.

BTW where were you when you got smashed by wigan while we hit spuds for 3. singing the blues?

16 Mar 2013 18:04:26
if were not a big club why r you so happy we got beat and go onto r site. like if utd get beat i'm happy but I don't go and say stupid stuff like your not a big club anymore by the way if everton get beat its really irrevelant that says it all really.

We don't care what the red side say
what the **** do we care.

16 Mar 2013 16:56:54
did we bought sturridge to play a 4-4-2?

16 Mar 2013 16:56:27
I am not going to be bitter and say congrats to Southampton. A disappointing result but it takes time to turn things around but in Brendan we have the man.

16 Mar 2013 16:56:23
Put your tin hats on eds!
It's about to get messy!

16 Mar 2013 16:56:16
With exception of Brad Jones whole team poor. got to question the preparation for the game? Suarez tops it off with needless yellow towards a 2 match ban.

That just tops it off, brad jones who wouldn't get into any of the top 7 except lfc was Liverpools best player llf

16 Mar 2013 16:56:10
Ok even with all the talk here, which I agree with about supporting the team and players, I just can't watch this game and refrain from wondering how Downing has played 90 minutes in so many games. While some have said he has found form, if you play any player that much he will produce something. I can't entirely fault him because I can't understand why BR would play such a linear winger with limited ability in the central midfield. While the rest of the team does well, most of his inadequcies are hidden and he might even contribute, but when the team struggles, Downings lack of creativity is glaringly obvious. How he manages to stay in the team week after week with options like Henderson, Allen, Shelvey, and Suso is mind boggling and infuriating. Those players are desperate for experience and could become world class with the right development and yet we continually give that time to Downing who is receiving increasing praise. Am I totally off base here? What are the rest of the fans thinking about this?

RedYank

Downing had to get better he couldn't have got worse, I agree that Suso etc. should be getting game time, we only have pride to play for now, some players are just not up to it no matter how hard they try.

16 Mar 2013 16:54:57
The team got destroyed today. It doesn't even look like they've been training for this game. It would be easier for me to say collectively we played badly instead of picking on certain individuals that had a terrible game. This has happened to us a few times this season where we go in to the game favorites after a short run of games where we've dominated. Aston villa at anfield, west brom at anfield and now southampton away. Everyone knew we would not get fourth yet when someone makes it plainly clear they get disliked for stating the obvious. Like I've said before we will be lucky to get 6th spot and it would be a miracle to get 5th. Next season will be a big one, good or bad.

16 Mar 2013 16:54:33
cant belive how bad we were today oh well no european footy nxt season for us

Hold back their wages and see how they improve. rogers management book must have got wet so he had to use his brain, we all see how that worked out. he is not good enough for the job. AND they have the neck to increase the ticket price, having a laugh

8th last year and two cup finals with silver wonn. well that makes this season questionable

16 Mar 2013 16:54:27
Hollow words from Brenden once again. Well done Southampton.

We are still not a force in the league despite all the recent fan fair.

Poor effort all round.

Far to inconsistent to win a single thing.

Completely agree no consistency. After a great win against the Spuds you would think the players would be up for today. Poor decision by BR start Allen. The player has been poor and is also carrying an injury.

Absolutely right, seems though that whenever Skrtel plays we are appalling at the back. Next season we are going to have major problems if we don't get 2 good centre half's in.

We were a great run and it had to happen sooner or later.

16 Mar 2013 16:54:11
jekyll and hyde comes to mind so disappointed

abbs

16 Mar 2013 16:53:41
Rodgers has to take a good share of the blame for this result: wrong team selection and wrong formation has cost us dear.

SMc

It was all totally down to the players attitudes today.

16 Mar 2013 16:50:52
Hi all

Just been watching and it has been awful.
Joe Allen should never have started, he was struggling and kept wincing all first half with his shoulder.
Not his fault but come on BR if he is injured he is injured.
There has been no urgency in our play at all.
They look like had a hard training session 2 hours before the game and look heavy legged.
Again 2 steps forward 3 steps back.
Maybe complacency set in.
Every one from top to bottom has to learn and learn fast, consistency is how you win things.
Rebuilding still in progress but this shows still a long way to go.

16 Mar 2013 16:50:22
All the results gone against us again.
Saurez booked again. one more and he's suspended.

16 Mar 2013 16:49:54
Rodgers Rodgers Rodgers. when ARE you going to learn?
PLEASE stop messing around with the side, PLEASE make a positive move when things are going wrong, don't bring on Henderson and take off a striker when we're desperate for a goal at least make a positive change, some might say Ibe was too young to bring on but why have him on the bench if your not prepared to have him as an option,
Im sorry boys but this was embarrassing to the extreme, too many passengers not putting it in and a manager who dosnt know how to change his tactics in any way when the chips are down,
AND can we PLEASE stop going on about Europe next year, it isn't happening we'll finish 7th at best as once again sides around us get a result and we mess it up and don't get me started on Skrtel.
Awful boys sorry

16 Mar 2013 16:48:36
First time I will crictise Brendan Rodgers. why change a winning team?! No sense, allen and skrtel are just not good enough. Skrtel doesn't work with his defense he runs round like a headless chicken and allen just seems to have lost his head.

Jord

16 Mar 2013 16:48:09
Costly mistake to start Allen. Feel we shouldve played henderson for Downing and Lucas for Allen.

16 Mar 2013 16:47:36
Not good enough from the lads today but credit to Southampton they're playing us off the pitch!
Cheers,
LS7.

16 Mar 2013 16:47:32
before the little bitches begin, let's remember that you can't do it every time. well done southampton - the best team by a million miles today.

gazman

Your right gazman but we are losing to many games and the uniteds and chelseas of this world don't leak like us. we are Liverpool playing at a level of a lesser club with lesser resources and your happy with this.

16 Mar 2013 16:46:39
Sturridge, gerrard, johnson, skrtel, allen all had a shocker today.
These relegation clubs r playing with passion, on us like a rash, villa away next week.
Really missed cara today

16 Mar 2013 16:46:10
joe allen today had a stinker he was like a 12yr old boy playing against men we looked tired oh well am sure the players will go home with there wages an not feel a thing

DJANGO

16 Mar 2013 16:45:38
think BR needs to keep his mouth shut this is the 2nd time he'll av come out bigging our chances up and we get turned over off teams we should be beating. he should just let the football do the talking and it'll save us the extra humiliation

16 Mar 2013 16:45:00
Eds fellow reds, proves one point that I said earliear, we have not improved at all couple of good results then what should be 3 points. were rubbish got to change the mentality of the full club. They beat spurs and automaticly think we've won the next game.

16 Mar 2013 16:44:27
We have been brought back to reality 5th never more like saints for 5th after them hammering. Suarez where was he with no support Gerrard too slow sturridge absolutely poor coutinho played okay defence a shambles other than Enrique, Johnson flop of the match tied with allen. No communication in defence without the great man carragher. Jones our best player. Gutted at that loss just gutted need serious work for next season push for 5th. Unhappy red
YNWA The R rated RED

16 Mar 2013 16:44:26
"We can still finish 4th" "we can win our last 10 games" haha why do you keep torturing yourselves. Don't worry. Next year will be your year.

CT13

16 Mar 2013 16:43:55
lol lol lol, your average team are getting torn apart by the saints, what a cheat suarez is!

What you talking about?

16 Mar 2013 16:43:28
Dreadful. It's hard for me to criticise, I hate doing but this is the worst I've seen all season. On the plus side, downing, Enrique and jones having a good game. 3 out of 11 ain't bad?

16 Mar 2013 16:43:16
I said a while ago that I'd he happy to see the back of all our centre halfs, nothings changed, there awful apart from carra. lot work to be done in the summer, with regards to our shambolic defence.

16 Mar 2013 16:42:15
Sturridge is startin to get on ma nerves no work rate needs droppin and for effin sake rodgers make subs sooner!

Basy

I said right from the moment that we were linked with him that he was average. Hence why he got so few starts at City and Chelsea.

So many on here were drooling over the signing - why? He's achieved nothing and probably won't at Anfield either. In fact, the only impact he's had is to move Suarez from where he is most dangerous. I think I'd rather see Ngoo get a chance than him.

redmersey

16 Mar 2013 16:41:46
No comment on today, infact I started to writeone but then I realized there was so much wrong that I didn't have the time to comment. They should ashamed of themselfs.

Good Post - at least you're not squarely laying the blame on BR, his players have let him down today IMO

16 Mar 2013 16:41:20
Remember when our defence was half-decent? Johnson in particular should hang his head in shame.

Jonhson is getting worst and worst and worst. he is taking everything ligthly, maybe he knows he hasn`t competition. he should be given a real kick in his a. s

budashok

He's been great going forward this season but been equally suspect in his primary role as a defender

16 Mar 2013 16:41:15
If we lose, it's down to some bad decisions in the line up, Allen isn't good enough, Skrtl makes too many mistakes which get punished and Jones isn't good enough, if rather give Gallacsi a go if Reina isn't fit.

16 Mar 2013 16:41:13
3rd goal has just gone in and I've switched the match off, shocking defending its been an issue all season and still hasn't been dealt with. I believe in rodgers but he needs to sort it out!

ACHILLES.

16 Mar 2013 16:40:58
What is bothering me, why bringing the subs, if BR does not use. !?!

16 Mar 2013 16:40:54
How is a player ALLOWED to run from the half way line to the edge of the box without a single challenge?

Answer, because he's playing against LFC, ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING

alan50

16 Mar 2013 16:40:24
Wow!
I never thought we'd get 5th but secretly somewhere deep deep down I had a little glimmer of hope.
"We could do it! Man City beat Everton, two london derbies. We could be a lot closer by the end of this weekend. "
Then we put in a performance like this.
The just look totally unarsed.
Even Gerrard.
Terrible

16 Mar 2013 16:39:50
I think martin skrtel today justified why he's not been playing & why he'll be leaving in the summer.

He's had a shocker. He looked around at everyone but he should be looking hard at himself. That was a Mickey Mouse challenge

I would agree a 1000 times, for the 3rd goal, I mean put in a challenge, something
brendan really needs to start carra next game and use 3 in midfield, lucas, gerrard, henderson. we really need hendersons work rate so our backs can come forward!

16 Mar 2013 16:39:33
can Rogers see we need to bulk the midfield. that's where we are losing the game. jason. h

16 Mar 2013 16:38:56
First time I'm going to slate the team but this is f****** disgraceful attitude. Deserve too lose wow

London red

16 Mar 2013 16:37:52
That's it 3, 1 now

16 Mar 2013 16:33:21
owell another lose even if we draw it will mean nothing poor display and poor team choice stur glen allen and skits let us down bring on the summer

16 Mar 2013 16:25:13
Did we have a hard training session yesterday? The team look so lethargic.

Complete rubbish today lucky not to be 5 nil

I think certain players have let recent praise go to their head, their bodies might be on the pitch but their minds certainly aren't/weren't!

Credit to Southampton as they have done the basics well and played to their strengths but we have been pretty abject.

16 Mar 2013 16:24:46
I hate it when we lose and play well but this is just terrible we have no urgency at all! Even if we win this this attitude is terrible

London red

16 Mar 2013 16:17:01
Please ed's I can see that there will be lots of hate after the 1st half, could you just not post all this potential dribble?

FowlerGod.

Potential dribble? Must be watching the game then

I think people are entitled to an opinion and certain players have been toilet today and shouldn't pull a Liverpool shirt on ever again, yes that's you Skrtl and Allen.

Let the truth be known. We were garbage.

Unfortunately it needs to be posted.
worst Liverpool display of 2 seasons tactically inept
livlim

Its the same people who slate us when we're down then next week love us when we are back in winning ways. Yes Liverpool wasn't even half the team they was against Spurs. Instead of getting carried away and slating everything we should carry on support and backing the lads for next week against villa.

FowlerGod.

16 Mar 2013 16:10:48
get johnson off wisdom on

He's been awful most of the season, but the last 2 games DIRE, at fault for quite a few goal's no challenge pathetic

Wisdom is even more braindead then johnson

16 Mar 2013 16:07:07
Could somebody please explain to me why Brendan Rodgers compares Joe Allen to Xavi?

It's like comparing a Robin Reliant to a Rolls Royce.

Because we probably could have bought Xavi for the money we spent on Allen

He had a bad game, lucas had one against tottenham. I don't see people slaughtering him

16 Mar 2013 16:05:56
Ed when is Martin Kelly back? I thought he was expected to be back in March?
Thanks mate. {Ed002's Note - He won't be rushed but the club say he is making good progress.}

OK cheers mate!

16 Mar 2013 16:04:54
Saints are all attack nd that gives us hope. replace allen with lucas nd downing with henderson nd tighten up midfield, give gerrad more freedom nd suarez on left wing nd we can do it. Rodgers make changes while it can change game.

Harry Oldbury

16 Mar 2013 16:03:52
Not able to watch the game cause I'm stuck in work, but reading all these comments and obviously keepin an eye on the scoreline things don't seem to be going well at all.

Is Allen really havin that bad a game? Why did Rodgers decide to change things around and drop Lucas?

Frustrating how we can play so great for a few games in a row and then everything seems to go T*ts up.

16 Mar 2013 16:24:17
Mate only 15% of possession in first half that's how soton is dominating us, we can't even put 3 passes together

16 Mar 2013 16:03:48
Lucas on for Allen

16 Mar 2013 16:02:18
Its clear now that Rodgers likes to work with kids and hobits. Why don't we move him to the academy promote someone who know what football means to LFC. Lucas and Hendo on bench? Playing four attackers away from home. How are we to play our passing game with two in the middle?

16 Mar 2013 16:00:46
lucas and henderson on for allan and sturridge

16 Mar 2013 15:59:11
Be lucky to get a point today after that 45. shocking

16 Mar 2013 15:57:55
We may be losing 2-1 but look at what Southampton did to City at St. Mary's. The same is happening to us but let's hope we can turn it around. That Coutinho goal gives me hope even though we have been dominated by a brilliant Southampton side. Just goes to show even when we are not playing well we can still score. By the way congratulations to Jordan Ibe in getting his first senior call-up. This lad is going to be a star!
Come on lads!
LS7.

16 Mar 2013 16:12:14
LS7 mate no excuses their you have to just admit that Rodgers got horribly wrong in first half and we are lucky to be only 2-1 or else it would have been 4-1!

16 Mar 2013 15:57:12
To be fair, I saw this formation and starting line-up after the spurs game. Reina was never going to be risked, and allen was brought in for ball retention so we would always keep the ball, but it has just failed miserably. I can now see why carra was played so often, there is no organisation or leadership at the back. Skrtel is solid normally but he's clumsy and not a leader. Changes need to be made early in the second half, and the coutinho goal could be a big difference from 3 or 1 point and 0. Southampton have just sniffed us out earlier than we have them. They need and want this a lot more. I just hope fickle fans understand this and don't act like the worlds going to end if we lose or draw. Jones in goal has leaked far to many goals, I just feel so much more confident with reina in goal.

16 Mar 2013 15:55:48
It's time to book that operation for Joe allen, he's been really poor, as for skrtel I now understand why he hasn't been playing much recently. The summer can't come quick enough, we need new defenders urgently.

16 Mar 2013 15:55:44
1)Lucas needs to be first name on the team sheet week in week out.
2)Glen Johnson needs to be sold massive liberty and used to be let off sometimes bad defending for creating a lot going forward but has been evenly bad at both this season. we have plenty of young up and coming right backs.
3)Skrtel wow just sell him now please right now.

16 Mar 2013 16:17:41
2) A player has a bad 45 minutes against Southampton in an otherwise good season and he's a liability who should be sold?

Here's a fact, you will not find a back 4 anywhere that don't make individual errors at times. Jonno doesn't make in an inordinately large amount of them. I actually can't think of his last bad game.

1. I think Lucas is a man, not a machine. How can he play week in-week out that too just after he's back from a long lay-off?

2. The only 'massive Liberty' I know stands in the USA.

3. I wish you could be the adviser to Mr. Henry on how we can 'sell' players even after (or before) the transfer window closes (or opens)

Oh Something Red! You can't remember the last bad game he had. Tell me the last game where he defended well. Just that we won games and missed his defensive fragility, doesn't make him a good defender. He is awful defender, his positioning sucks. So many goals have been leaked on right side of our goal post that its unbelievable. Going forward, he produces a moment of brilliance and he is the best RB in England. B**Ls!

I am absolutely gutted with today's team performance. We never looked like a team with CL ambitions even if chances are improbable. Southampton wanted it more and they played us off the park. No one player stood out with his performance. I never understand this with Liverpool, why the entire team either collectively plays brilliant or shabby. Why not 1 or 2 players step up to mantle and drives us home like Man U or Tottenham etc?

Devastated! It wasn't all about CL place but about momentum and actually crushing teams fighting to stay in PL. That's what speaks for our arrogance, momentum, confidence and bodes well for next season. Back to Square One!

Indian with Red Heart

16 Mar 2013 15:51:48
Well I did say Southampton beware of Philippe Coutinho! Come on lads!
Cheers,
LS7.

16 Mar 2013 15:50:37
ok lucas has had a nice rest time to get him on for sturridge or allan

16 Mar 2013 15:50:13
OMFG!brendan why would you play allen and gerrard together, you have just given a free pass for saints to dominate us. it isn't surprising that they look like top4 team at the moment

16 Mar 2013 15:49:03
dont get why allen is playing. he has a got a shoulder injury.

16 Mar 2013 15:48:39
Come on reds! I generally still have confidence we will win this our strike force is so dangerous

London red

16 Mar 2013 15:48:22
Said it before and I will say it again GLEN JOHNSON is a shocking footballer.

16 Mar 2013 17:03:44
Really? One bad game.

16 Mar 2013 15:47:53
Rodgers needs to be brave and get Allen and skrtel. Off, they've been atrocious.

16 Mar 2013 15:46:18
Why oh Why Joe Allen
I knew he would start with him after he come on against spurs
no need to change the side
K. O. B

16 Mar 2013 15:45:49
If you're only going to play 2 midfielders then surely you wouldn't choose Joe Allen - awful distribution, inability to tackle, inability to make any impact on the game. We are being torn apart, must make a change at half time and get another man in midfield - Coutinho off Henderson on?

p. s. decision that went against Suarez when he was through on goal was a joke

16 Mar 2013 15:45:18
Why on earth has Rogers started with Allen, getting over run in midfield.

Will Rogers ever learn

16 Mar 2013 15:44:28
How can Rodgers not see Allen is having a nightmare. and playing unfit allen instead of fit henderson. Its like our midfield is not even there. Soton just running through our midfield like knife through butter.

16 Mar 2013 15:58:33
It's not working at all, but I'm not going to crucify Allen or Rodgers (well, not yet anyway).

Allen isn't at his best as a defensive midfielder (and Gerrard's not having a good game and hasn't helped him at all), so it's hardly his fault. Allen's problem is that he's a playmaker and he's not going to displace Gerrard from first choice.

I can understand Rodgers' logic in wanting to rest Lucas, and on paper, against a team in 16th place is a good time to do it. Now that said, it clearly hasn't worked and it should be changed at half time and Lucas brought on it because he's the only centre mid we have who's really good at getting tackles in and picking up the danger in front of his own back 4. Henderson's energy wouldn't go amiss either, but it's a less crucial change.

What this is proving is we need propercover for Lucas.

16 Mar 2013 15:43:38
Who is organising the defense and helping allen? Its all good all our players attacking but you have to defend as a team aswell.
Samba is looking a monster for QPR, who is our Leader at the back and carragher won't be here next season?
johnson is having a shocker'

16 Mar 2013 15:43:26
Southampton looks like Barcelona.
Mircea

16 Mar 2013 15:43:12
All is not lost. We have created chances, we just need to close off the space in front of our back 4 because that's where they're hurting us. Rodriguez & Lambert have been able to get 1v1 with our centre halves too often and have had other players breaking from their midfield to help. Allen & Gerrard have been overrun.

Lucas & Hendo on for Allen & Coutinho at HT would help with that imo.

16 Mar 2013 15:42:47
No exaggeration guys, we should be at least four goals down here. We won't even get a draw out of this. We're getting embarrassed.

16 Mar 2013 15:41:51
No reina no carra no Lucas means absolutely no organization, it's that simple, absolutley awful performance.

16 Mar 2013 15:41:47
Getting slaughtered by Southampton, should take Allen off and bring Lucas on, we look weak in midfield.

16 Mar 2013 15:41:28
BR thank you for leaving Lucas on the bench when we needed wins.

they never learn (best players should always play)

16 Mar 2013 15:41:11
if br does not sub skirts off he needs a slap ffs he is killing us we lucky not to be 4-0

16 Mar 2013 15:41:00
We're getting battered out there. Skytle and Allen need to come off and stop giving the ball away and the whole team need to string some passes together.

Bring on Carra and Henderson IMO.

Crowman.

16 Mar 2013 15:40:37
red lobster here.

i told you guys. I told you

1. rogers will get his tactics wrong and show how naive he is with all this confidence. he should play lucas and henderson for these away games.

2. lfc failing again to show a winning mentality against teams they are supposed to beat and when it matters

and this is why we will always get the fans hopes up with a few wins. and then when we NEED to keep the momentum, we fail against a smaller side

R. LOBSTER

16 Mar 2013 15:40:14
Why not stick with a winning formula? Why change and chop team selection,

Southampton fully deserves their lead, I hope Liverpool win this game, the momentum was with us before we went into this game,

To be honest we are second best and if we loose we fully deserve this, no excuses should be accepted from the whole team no matter what

Dk London

16 Mar 2013 15:39:05
We are getting absolutely destroyed if we want 5th we need to wake up and turn it around relegation team leading against us- why is skrtel playing and Allen poor they're playing poor

16 Mar 2013 15:39:04
Nothing constructive to say about this first half. BR better kick some arse at half time!
Enrique only one that's turned up.

16 Mar 2013 15:39:02
Never seen us play that awful in recent time. why on earth skrtel nd allen nd johnson doing. let's just show some steel. couple of dodgt desions by linesman

Harry Oldbury

16 Mar 2013 15:38:30
We are being trounced and this is what you get when you consistantly change winning team, why bring Allen in place of lucas, all hard work against spurs is gone in drain if we don't win this game, very sad!

16 Mar 2013 15:38:14
Rodgers wrong team! Why for effin sake play skrtel and allen?

Basy

16 Mar 2013 15:38:08
no lucas. the allen effect

16 Mar 2013 15:36:32
The sooner joe allen has his shoulder op and is unavailable the better. He shouldn't be near a lge 2 starting line up never mind Liverpools. Lucas on now

16 Mar 2013 15:36:11
This is why we shouldn't get our hopes up because we always get let down people. get realistic

16 Mar 2013 15:35:30
Unforgivable performance. The lads havnt turned up.
Defense is embarrassing. Summer defense is first priority. No leadership at the back and carrager retiring in the summer?

16 Mar 2013 16:10:59
Jonno wasn't great for the first goal, but otherwise individually Skrtel and Agger have done okay. Enrique's been fine too. They're just being run at constantly because there's no protection in front of them.

16 Mar 2013 15:35:15
BR to blame. awful team selection

16 Mar 2013 15:34:44
What is wrong with the pitch. Everyone just keeps slipping

16 Mar 2013 15:34:37
Eds fellow reds. get Allen off and put Lucas back in

16 Mar 2013 15:33:10
How many times has Allen given away the ball. Why no Lucas

16 Mar 2013 15:32:29
I didn't know the blind were able to referee football games.

16 Mar 2013 15:32:06
were realy going to struggle with this linesman toady 20 yards of the pace like allen and skyrtle

16 Mar 2013 15:29:12
we have looked dodgey at the back all season, and am I the only one that spotted that Liverpools vast improvement in the second half of the season was at the point Lucas returned. Think the 2 man mid without him is a mistake.

16 Mar 2013 15:25:54
20 minutes gone and we should be 3 down, we're getting wasted and need to wake up. I think Rodgers has got it wrong today we're being over run big time.

16 Mar 2013 15:25:25
Spend the entire summer transfer budget on a new back four. Appalling again today. And sell Joe Allen to anybody that will have him. Welsh Xavi? Don't think so.

16 Mar 2013 15:24:50
Sorry brendan joe allen isn't good enough you don't have to force it let him get his surgery we won't miss him a bit. why he starts ahead of hendo is still a mystery

16 Mar 2013 15:24:32
Amateur mistake from brendan allen for lucas we've looked a diff team fron lucas simple because he gives protection. Going for his own bad bad mistake. Oh and glen johnson.

16 Mar 2013 15:06:01
El Pistolero - To be loved is fortunate, but to be feared is to achieve distinction'.

Bully 2k6

16 Mar 2013 15:24:14
Where is the leader on the pitch to sort us out,?we are all over the place!

16 Mar 2013 15:23:36
watching game, cannot get a look in. saints are really up for it. Need to get the ball and slow down the pace

16 Mar 2013 15:22:42
Why is joe allen playing.

16 Mar 2013 15:22:35
What a joke this is! Allan has proven time and time again he not good enough for our team. He's week! We're really missing Lucas what a stupid decision by Rodgers. Can't believe this

16 Mar 2013 15:22:22
Loving just how non-existent our midfield is without Lucas in it.

16 Mar 2013 15:22:06
Allen is pathetic, no way should he be wearing a Liverpool shirt.

16 Mar 2013 15:20:51
18minutes and 3 seconds. Joe Allen winces and holds his shoulder. BR i'm your biggest fan, but playing him today ahead of Lucas and Henderson has annoyed me, not only is he injured, but his form has been the worst of the Other options.

16 Mar 2013 15:20:34
jesus allen and skits off how bad can they get and same old same old from us beat tot now are players think they can just turn up and win

16 Mar 2013 15:20:20
Midfield dominated early on, need an extra midfielder in there as Allen is completely anonymous at the minute - those criticising Lucas can see today just how important he is.

16 Mar 2013 15:17:05
Why do we keep changing a winning unit?
When Allen starts we struggle. Lucas so important to us now and we drop him.
We have no connection between midfield and defence and midfield attack without him allowing others to move further on,
Already seen enough of Allens crab football in ten minutes, Henderson much better option between the two

16 Mar 2013 15:15:09
Why the hell has he changed the centre back pairing? We play one game a week for gods sake.

16 Mar 2013 15:12:57
Que the abuse.

16 Mar 2013 15:12:47
No Lucas? It's showing already Allan is the invisible man an skrtle clumsy again. Makes no sence to me atall very bad team selection

16 Mar 2013 15:12:43
skrtel and allen starting? no bottle in the starting line up I fear the worst! need lucas in there, joe allen is a passenger at best. DBol

16 Mar 2013 15:12:38
Every fecking time skrtyl plays we concede s£&t goals.

16 Mar 2013 15:08:24
Poor defending by johnson

16 Mar 2013 15:07:03
Foopkkkk all on now-said didn't like changes before goal before people start!

16 Mar 2013 15:05:59
Don't get why the changes Brendan fella sorry. Thought Allenstein shoulder was fooled-got to inhibit him. And absense of leaders-No Carra?-all in front of Jones!

16 Mar 2013 14:56:01
If Southampton attacks, we'll destroy them on the counter but if they play it safe and patiently wait for our two man midfield to falter, the game could go either way. I hope we win 3-0 to keep the dream alive. A brace for Suarez today and he'll be out of sight for top scorer.

We are 2-0 down and are not doing well.

You where saying! lmao

16 Mar 2013 15:43:54
Get a grip man, what a load of rubbish, happy Blue he he

16 Mar 2013 15:44:27
Henderson for allen.

ACHILLES.

16 Mar 2013 14:55:34
Just had a bet on Skyrtel first goal 33/1.
Plenty of corners and free kicks early on to give him a chance to get on the end of something.
I always have a bet on defenders anyway as their the best value. Saver on Suarez of course.
Used to win a few bob on big Sammi a while back.

16 Mar 2013 14:39:50
Props to the Blues - they were magnificent today, makes 3 points all the more crucial for us.

16 Mar 2013 14:38:39
Watching city today and got to say they were pathetic, no urgency no pace. There's no way you would think they were fighting for the title.

16 Mar 2013 14:28:11
Why is Lucas on the bench?

16 Mar 2013 14:37:51
Ed fellow reds, bluenoses just won against city 2, 0

And who cares? All we want is a Liverpool win today, we don't care what Everton do!

16 Mar 2013 14:57:13
And. you are forgetting that a much more important game coming up at 3 that 99% of us would far rather discuss!

16 Mar 2013 14:36:06
Predictions?
I'm going to go 2-1, Coutinho and Suarez to get the goals.
-Beany.

16 Mar 2013 14:31:42
How the hell fellani wasn't sent off and city awarded a penalty I will never know. He was a yard inside the penalty area. Refs are just simply crap!

Osman handled it before it went into the box, therefore the ref gave the free kick for the first offence. Calm down Calm down

Osman NEVER handled it lad so never mind your calm down rubbish and open your eyes!

16 Mar 2013 14:23:42
Jordan Ibe on the bench vs Southampton and will make his debut at somepoint to replace coutinho if the result is in our favour. if not then henderson or lucas will replace coutinho (here is to hoping that we have a two goal lead around 70/75mins so he can have his debut)

16 Mar 2013 14:21:51
Oooh absolutely poo'ing it thought BR would play best team possible but lucas is on the bench which could make it tough against their attack. but I have faith in the team.

16 Mar 2013 14:18:39
Hey lfc fans

I think today is a true test of Liverpools mentality and ability. Not the spurs game because lfc have no problems with being up the tougher games. They only lose focus against teams we should beat.

I also think rogers is way too confident with his team selection. Its better to play with hendo and lucas for away games like this atleast at the start.

Southampton strength is pressing high u. Lfc weakness is passin the ball to death at the back.

Have lfc prepared for this game knowing this? Or will rogers show a naivity in his tactics again.

I for 1 hope we start bright and show a physicality in the midfield. Without lucas. I'm puzzled why allen is playin if he's shoulder messed up

Red losbter

Unfortunately, your analysis sounds spot on at the moment. Here's hoping we can turn it around again!

16 Mar 2013 14:16:38
Lucas on bench? allen and stevie start in the middle and skertle back. Reina not fit, but ibe gets a subs place.

16 Mar 2013 14:08:30
Jordon Ibe on the bench, hope we are comfortably ahead with twenty mins to go and he can have a run out.

16 Mar 2013 13:49:08
Unless City's attitude changes 2nd half Blues could win fairly easy. COME ON REDMEN-Do the Bizz!

16 Mar 2013 13:29:01
Hey Ed cheers for putting them videos up! The one which really stood out for me though was Coutinho. This guy is such a brilliant player and is still developing. If he continues to play the way he is at present he will be one of the most feared players in the Premier League and maybe even Europe. Southampton beware!
Cheers,
LS7.

16 Mar 2013 13:23:24
Imagine going the old fashion 4-4-2 with two out and out wingers someone like Sinclair and at the moment downing or stirling

16 Mar 2013 13:15:30
dont hear much from the blue noses now that we are in our rightfull position

There 1-0 up after an hour against city, guess you will hear a lot if they hold on.

They just beat the Premier League champions 2-0 with ten men. Fair play to 'em I say.

16 Mar 2013 13:11:18
hi edd01 I seen the under 18s play against west ham today at kirkby today and we have chatted about jordan rossiter before, robbie fowler has likened him to stevie g but to me he reminds of a xavi alonso but with more goal threat and more of a killer pass, I know its early days but this kid stands out a mile, as soon as he fills out I can see him pushing for a squad place in 18 months time. {Ed001's Note - he has that fire about his game that Gerrard has, that is why God likened the two.}

16 Mar 2013 13:10:15
eire red {Ed023's Note -Funny post but I cannot post it, sorry}

16 Mar 2013 08:12:33
Love to know what ED001's view of Jordan Rossiter is. I believe he could be a real gem, especially giving he is 16 and iv seen him play for under 18's and the under 21's. Where he has been outstanding. {Ed001's Note - he is the best player to come through our youth system since Gerrard, he just has to keep working now. Not sure that will be a problem though, he has that fiery edge to his game that should see him through sticky spells.}

16 Mar 2013 12:21:33
afternoon ed's and red's. come on the red men let's have the big win again today boy's, and hear's to hoping we keep them win's rolling in all the way till the end on the season. jay essex red for life red till dead, and as alway's walking on with hope

16 Mar 2013 12:06:45
Its brilliant to read everyone in agreement of how good Lucas is. I think we all underestimate just how huge a turnaround it has been for him. Bought from Gremio to be an AM, realized his shortcomings, changed position and worked hard to establish himself, even after his injuries he's been involved as early as possible. His commitment is really impressive. Here's to another solid performance for him today to prove he is one of the best DMs operating in the PL.

JFT 96

JP

Agreed mate, I love the guy. What's great is that he plays with intensity but also with a smile on his face. I feel his sportsmanship allows him to make a few niggly fouls in a game without getting booked, whereas someone like mascherano who played with a snarle on his face seem to get booked very regularly (although still an excellent player).

I agree with you it's nice him finally getting the recognition he deserves as I've always rated him, use to get slated on a web site for supporting him.

It's a little harsh saying we 'realised his short comings, changed his position' his short comings was the fact he was played out of position from the start and was merely taking time to adapt to the role, league etc.

I wish everyone showed that desire to succeed when they pulled on the shirt.

16 Mar 2013 11:41:35
We really need to improve our defensive record against the top teams.

Our back 6 (inc Lucas) hasn't changed much in the last few years, yet our defensive contributions have cost us a lot of points this year.

Spurs, 4 goals conceded over 2 games. Utd 4 goals over 2 games, Arsenal 4 goals over 2 games, City 4 goals over 2 games, Everton 2 goals in 1 game.

We've scored plenty against those teams, just need to sort it out defensively next season and the results should come.

16 Mar 2013 11:28:49
Why are people on here banging on about ashley Williams? Not only is he not good enough, the lad is a tool! Getting too big for his boots in my opinion

A simple google search would tell you that Ashley Williams is linked to Arsenal. there is plenty of articles linking him to the gunners. very few linking him to us. The only reason people are continuing to mention him is because he plays where BR managed.

16 Mar 2013 11:17:25
Liverpool win today'
Has to be, I see a tired spurs losing points and everton and arsenal matches, anything could happen there. Could be a tasteful day.

16 Mar 2013 11:49:08
Mate we shouldn't worry about other results, we just have to win our own games, if we win 10 in a row then will be in top4 the only problem is can we win our own games consistantly?

16 Mar 2013 11:15:59
Hey lads! I think we will win 3-1 today with sturridge scoring one of them. If we manage to win this one it would be really fantastic. would really boost out chance for top 4 finish wouldn't it. Good luck to our lads out there today.
Cheers!

16 Mar 2013 10:47:39
Eds what is the story with Andy C I thought if west ham stayed up he was going there but now everyone is talking like he could come back?
Thanks,
J-LK {Ed002's Note - I have explained ad nauseum that I have no idea what the provision of the contract are.}

Ed on the subject of Andy C, is it a premier league rule that loan players can't play against the clubs that own them?
The west ham game will be bad enough with Cole ( bad habbit of getting big goals against us ) there, but it would be just like Andy to score against us. {Ed002's Note - It is indeed an EPL rule.}

I get a sick feeling ever time I read your chelski one eyed biased views on reds {Ed002's Note - The abuse has continued all morning again and I really can't see how even a foul piece of crap like you could take objection to this. Adding to the embarrassment.}

How is the Ed saying they don't know the details at all biased?
Infact I find Ed002's views the best as they are not viewed though red tinted glasses. I also think he's very polite, as when people come on here and constantly ask are we getting Cavani and the like, he is decent enough to give a very diplomatic "it's unlikely at the moment" when the obvious answer would to be just laugh and take the mick.
Now if people paid attention to what he trys to tell you from time to time it would save a load of hassle, take the constant Xabi back posts, he has tried to say it looks like Xabi to Turkey and we seem to be after Ittura, so why keep asking?
Read between the lines, there will be surprises ofcourse but, but when Ed mentions names he gets slatted so he decides it's not worth the hassle. Now we seem to be looking at Ittura and DeVrij, maybe if we start treating Ed002 a bit better we might get some more insight because he obviously has very good contacts.
RNred {Ed002's Note - Thanks. And I hear the Uruguayan FA are still looking to fund Cavani's move to Liverpool.}

Hey Ed, if your having a bad day think of me, I had a ticket for the game but instead I've been made duty, so I'm stuck on the ship all weekend. Gutted watching all the lads going off down the pub.

mingolet, benteke, shawcross or ashley williams and nathan dyer would be realistic targets, relatively cheap and proven in the league. also belive their players that would strengthen us massively in possitions we may have to replace. what do you think?

pb

Mingolet is the only one linked to us. The rest are just made up twitter nonsense or wishful thinking.

I think you'll be surprised by how expensive most of these would be.

Am I the only person who doesn't want Alonso ect back at Liverpool. Don't get me wrong I loved watching the players of Benitez era but there all getting on a bit now and simply aren't as good

As much as I'd love alonso back at Liverpool I agree with you, nows the time to move on and invest in other players towards our future

I do agree but he's still a fantastic player and at the right price he will do a great job for us from the off and players like hendo Adam suso would really get benefit from him aswell.
If you bring him on for the last 30/40 he will unlock tired defences and Suarez and DS will be laughing all the way.
Paul the red

Depends on how good the deal for us is but yes I agree with you. Be nice to watch him and stevie being swaped a bit next year to rest them but its not as if either of them will like that anyway.

Paul the red, still you are in Dalglish second reign. Adam went to Stoke.
ynwa

Adam? Are Stoke signing Alonso?

Sorry lol I meant Alan
Paul the red

Or Allen even lol

Eds, fellow reds. Massive game for us today if we can take 3points then it proves BR is getting it right for the last 5 years or more we've beaten a big rival then lost to a lesser team let's keep our fingers crossed and hope we get the win. Come on the mighty reds

See Crouchy picked Gerrard, Alonso, Johnson and went for Torres ahead of Rooney in his best 11 players that he's ever played alongside in over 500 games.
He never picked any Stoke players lol.

Just read a Southampton defender has voted robin van persie for Pfa player of the year my question is why would players be asked to vote now there is still 9-10 games left roughly a quarter of the season?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - The voting is over already.}

We usually voted by the end of Jan in my day, ridiculous and a lot use to just give it the apprentice to do, it was never taken that serious.
The Writers vote holds more kudos as the PFA has the players loyalties of who they have supported since boys. It'll be interesting to see if they vote on ability rather than the prejudice of the southern press

This is a massive game for us today. It will be a huge win for us if we can get all 3 points. Our best string of results for a while and confidence will be high going into another tricky match against villa.
As Stevie G said we need a perfect finish to the season so we have a sniff of the champions league. Even if we just miss out, even still having a chance in the final few matches will be great after the start we had to this season.
Away games at grounds of teams in danger of relegation are often tricky, we have become a stronger more clinical unit recently, bring it on.

The press are reporting that Alonso could return for as little as 4m- this would be a very good acquisition- especially if you think we paid 3m for Assaidi just to sit on the bench. Alonso would also fit our style of play.

I cringe when I see us linked with Ben Arfa, not because I don't think he's a good player. I just think of Aquilani, Carroll who were both bought knowing they had injuries/recovering from injuries.
So for me I can't see where we could possibly take a chance on Arfa when there's so many viable alternatives out there.

He is such a quality player though.

The problem with Ben Arfa is his incosistentency, he has never quite been able to keep up the good performances for a prolonged period.

Potential banana skin away to Southampton today, hope Pepe's back.
100% confident we will score which is a massive improvement in itself but with Southampton fighting for their lives it won't be easy.
I'd settle for any sort of win 1-0, 3-2. 4-3 just go for it, which we have to and get the 3 points.
Could be a massive weekend for us if we do, with the rest all having difficult games.

My personal order of preferance this summer for the right

Mertens > Sanchez > Honda > Ben Arfa > Ince

Mertens, Honda, Gameiro any 2 of these 3 would be good.

Dsudszak, Sanchez, De vriij, Inan.

Four quality players, all possible except Sanchez but there is always a chance.

I would sell skrtel, shelvey, carrol maybe downing but would be happy if he stayed.

Use Kelly as the rightsided CB alongside Agger, with De vriij and Wisdom as back up.

Ben arfa would be too expensive. We could only do a deal if they would take Carroll.

Mertens won't come

Nathan dyer as a cheap option. marco marin without the injuries is another excellent punt.

pb

Ben Arfa gets too many injuries and big ones too. Wouldn't risk it with the problems we've had in past I. e Carroll, Aqualani, Kewell Cole etc.

Honda would be great as would De Vrij. Sanchez would be a coup, and really hope he decides on joining us ahead of some others who'll have CL.

Jonesred

Sanchez is only a possibility of Suarez were to leave. If Suarez stays then we won't be getting Sanchez.
