Banter please Eds.

I'm confused.

When Gerrard scored 1st pen he didn't celebrate, not even a smile.

When he scored 2nd pen he went ballistic.

Does anybody know why?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Steven Gerrard doesn't celebrate till it's over Dags

Agree0 Disagree0

After first goal, still a job to do GG.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi DG

Not to sure but I think it was maybe Stevie thinking let's not get to carried away & keep our heads as there's still a long way to go in the match. Then when the second went in there was that breathing space, because we were all over them but one goal didn't feel enough. Well that's my opinion on it :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

1st pen job not finished more work to do, 2nd pen then jobs a goodun game over

That is my interpretation.

Just so happy to have pounded Utd today. This season is just too much fun

Agree0 Disagree0

There was an hour to go when first pen went in, a long time left only 1 goal up, 45 mins to go when second pen scored so I reckon he thought it was game over, being 2 up. It was also near our fans so he probably couldn't resist the celebration with them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair points Gents.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it was because his second pen was in front of the lfc fans, even though he did giv a cheeky 5 finger salute to the mancs after his first.
Kj

Agree0 Disagree0

1-0 is a dangerous scoreline, especially since the penalty was scored in the first half.

I guess it's like not celebrating when you take a fit bird home on Saturday night, you don't start dancing in the taxi home do you? ;)
I think he was just fully focused on the 3 points. He knows he actually has a shot at the title this year, perhaps his best ever chance,
On a side note, you can almost hear Gerrard at half time telling the lads we've done h**k all yet.
I suppose this is that vital 'experience' all the pundits harp on about!

Agree0 Disagree0

Welsh, I love your outlook on life, lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Couldn't help but laugh that when united started singing their version of the gerrard song, that on tv it basically sounded like the whole stadium is singing for steve gerrard.

didn't hear them singing rvp's name though. he looks like he doesn't want to be there. was he on the phone to his agent near the corner flag for the second half?

Although we got away with a result today, it only outlined we lack that bit of magic needed to win Titles: Thomas Cleverley. My god the way he was brought onto the pitch yet one completely forgot he existed, if that's not magic I don't know what is!
On a serious note we are brilliant at the moment, not just title challengers but if we make it and keep this up next season, I believe we could well reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
We're another level at the moment. Literally that top bracket.
But my question for all is its all well and good claiming Moyes (football genius) has taken United backwards but there must be a reason. For me judging from today's performance they lack any pace and a quick front line is a common feature in the top 4 teams (Sturridge, Sterling, Suarezish; Walcott, Ox; schürrle, Hazard, Willian, Eto'o; Navas, Agüero, Toure). But united looked above anything slow today, I mean its no surprise if they're playing Mata as a winger. Rafael and on one occasion seemed to be their only two players capable of dribbling successfully at pace, whilst we had 6 or 7. Not sure on everyone else's thoughts though?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Probably time to leave the Cleverley jokes alone - he might wear the wrong shirt but the abuse he has been getting is shameful. There were plenty of poor displays by that lot - Rooney look like he cared and De Gea made some good saves but that was it, and it was a stroll for us by the end. I thought Hendo had an uncharacteristically poor first half and Luis played like his boots were made of wool (except for his goal).
But we made an average United team look very poor - pity we can't play them every week - and with nine matches left we have every reason to be dreaming.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Moyes just sets up United all wrong, personally. They lack creativity of any sort, so play a midfield two of Carrick and Fellani? Why they persist with a massively out of form Van Persie yet never play the likes of Kagawa is beyond me. Happy to let them continue to play rubbish formations with zero ability to tactically respond to what's actually happening on the pitch though. My favorite- bringing on Ferdinand when you're already down by 3. The genius that is Moyes is astounding.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not that I care in the slightest, but I think your right about the way United set up. They still have top players but arguably their best 3 are all playing that 'number 10 role, then pulling out wide because they don't have the pace to get in behind and hurt anyone.
The signing of Mata for £40m when you already have Rooney still amazes me. But like I said, not bothered in the slightest. I really hope Moyes destroyes their 20 year empire like Souness did ours

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Moyes should take all the blame. He has been left an aging squad and some of Uniteds golden era of homegrown players have already retired and its proved very difficult to find suitable replacements. Rio is due to retire as is giggs. Neville and scholes already have. Ronaldo has never been replaced unless you count RVPs goals last season as his replacement. Evra and Vidic are both 32 and are both leaving. Carrick is also 32. Similar to Souness at Liverpool. Liverpool had lost Hansen as he had just retired and had a number of players that were over 30 and nearing the end of their careers. Gillespie. Nicol, Whelan, McMahon, Rush and Beardsley. Although Beardsley still had a lot left in him when he was sold. Ultimately their replacements didn't have the same impact and this is what I can see happening at united. I was surprised to see moyes appointed instead of a high profile manager like mourinho or guardiola. Or someone like capello or hiddink. I think they have struggled to sign players last summer because of this and that will be compounded without champions league football. They have the revenues to be able to spend big when rebuilding but can they attract the right players? Spending big on transfer fees and wages on the wrong players can be disastrous

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes to utd was a match made in hell. Moyes played not to lose while utd always played to win. See the contradiction?

Sydney Sydney where for art though sydney?

Didn't you tell us to come back and look at the table in March?

C

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sydney! won't be back on here any time soon pal, don't you worry about that.

He can give it out alright, as his condasceding and patronising posts last spring/summer will show, yet he can't take it. For the moment United started playing Tennessee and Liverpool started tearing it up, he vanished.

If you can't take it, don't give it.

At least the Arsenal lads come on for a bit of banter win, lose or draw. That's why they are respected.

Sydney and the like (Daveyboyblue, Ozone, Harry and various other Ohios) haven't got the same class.

By Ohios, do you mean redohio?

This time last year you boys were 29 points behind Utd, now you are 14 in front of them.

Hhhmmm interesting, lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The worst part about being so far behind last year was knowing they were an average team!

Loving looking at the table at the moment!

Agree0 Disagree0

Utd won the league last year because of Fergie, the meltdown at city and chelsea, Arsenal`s lack of ambition any further than 4th place, and BR`s project at lfc as well as a tonne of ref decisions that went their way. Now that the above events aren`t happening, we now see their team for what it really was and is. CLUELESS.

Everyone was excellent today.

Henderson was brilliant as were Gerrard, Skrtel, and many others, but in particular thought Allen was top draw. Glad to see he's starting to replicate his early LFC form. Really starting to believe we can win the EPL now!

Thank you Brendan.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So excited after today's performance and result. I think the pressing from Henderson and Allen plus sterling was unbelievable. Brendon Rodgers always positive. But again the man Stevie a true leader of men

Agree0 Disagree0

Fully agree about Gerrard and Allen - both played out of this world

16 Mar 2014 21:49:21
Well well well, I have to say that at times in the past impatience and the want for success have had the better of me when it comes to backing Mr Rodgers and the way he wants us to play etc, and I've also like many have been totally frustrated with the transfer activity or lack of. But seriously, would you now swap Sterling for anyone else?, Henderson?, Sturridge?, Flanagan?, not to mention the rest, we keep talking about what we need in the summer but this team is young and Rodgers has other youngsters who he keeps trying to bring into the fold too,
Its exciting times for us and whether we win the league or not we're a joy to watch right now and its a pleasure to be a fan of a club being represented in the right way by the management again in the press etc,
I also if I may would like to heap some praise on Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh, they with Brendon Rodgers have made a dugout team reminiscent of the old boot room and its a joy to see, everyone seems to be part of the good feeling around the club and i'm sure these two are a massive part of that,
Good times Reds good times

Couple of quick points:
would the Gerrard bashers come forward.
Would the Rodgers bashers come forward.
I've stood by the centre backs all season. It seems to be coming together for them. Two clean sheets in a row - and looking solid. Any thoughts?
Oh, and are we now okay for a left back?
What would we buy in the summer? The team is young, quick, slick, confident and importantly - developing extraordinarily well together. An attacking midfielder? Is that all we need? I'm asking because I genuinely don't know. But given the fact that we have loan players coming back having gained experience this will properly beef out the squad. I'd have loved yer man Mihktaryen; or Salah.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Flanagan gets done for pace too often. He works hard and gets forward well but I just don't think he's quick enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like another top striker to keep pressure on the sas and a alonso type midfielder with great passing range

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to know how you stood by the centre backs when we've only started playing our centre back pairing from 2 years ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a squad game and I refer to all our centre backs DubLad. But in particular, to Skrtel. This can be evidenced by using the search engine and searching for the debates I've had with ed01 among others.
Perhaps I'm a lil awestruck given how good we've been recently - not to mention the day we've had today but I was thinking that Flanagan is the long term solution to left back, Ry? Am I wide of the mark on that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Following the great performance at Spurs I questioned Stevie's necessity to the team and thoroughly regret it now. Love the guy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with the assessment of Flanagan. Love his desire and commitment, but he worries me with his jumping in. Their only goal chance was the Rooney strike. That came from Flanno not being goal side of Januzaj, then lunging forward to try the intercept. On the whole, great performance, Utd had nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good shout Toddy.
I don't think I'm qualified enough to call Flanaghan then. The consensus seems to be that he ain't up to the job. I can see he isn't the quickest. Perhaps with time he might grow into the role? (did I read somewhere he's actually a right back - if true then maybe this explains his clumsiness at times?). And might also explain the rumours of a search for an understudy (or replacement) to Enrique. Meaning Flanaghan would be understudy and eventual replacement to Glen Johnson?

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember the first game against Everton and when Miralles stopped the ball he seemed to go round Flanagan quite easily; that being said he wins a lot of balls / forces players into making mistakes as he's on top of them very quickly.

Also his passing / decision making when making a pass has improved.

I have to say though I think he's done very well for us; not sure if he's the answer to the long term left back position but a very useful player to have capable of playing both full back positions.

Anyone know what's happened to Martin Kelly? Doesn't even seem to be getting on the bench anymore.

Agree0 Disagree0

We would buy in the summer to ensure we have 16 or 17 players who can step into the side at any time and do a job.

The back to back games against City and Chelsea exposed our squad depth.

Next year, demands will be greater, with midweek European games.

There is no doubt Johnson and Flanno have done a job for us this season, as have others. But we are the finished article and need no improvements? I doubt the club is thinking like that. No club does.

I expect several players in this summer. Fullbacks and wide players, especially.

What a great display that was. Truly on top of the world since this afternoon! Thought it was a very controlled, balanced display. Even though the team is young in age, I thought they played with immense maturity. Thought the defence was untroubled largely due to us defending as a team. Midfield totally bossed utd's. Even though their fans were in good voice we maintained our composure and stuck to the game plan. Dare I say and I don't want to get carried away, but with fans like ours as the '12th man' it feels like the 'spirit of Instanbul' has been rekindled.

You have got to feel for moyes even if he is out of his depth saf left that club with a squad that looks like it can play for the over 40s on the reck on a sunday morning either merson or souness hit the nail on the head saying it is going to take more than one transfer window to sort out . fergy left that club in the same way he came in it in a absolute mess not even a new manager can save that club not even someone like klopp because it is going to take so long starting from scratch

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Errrr. Good. Long may it continue

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergie built UTD and with one swift move, brought down the club. Who knew the great creator would be the great destroyer. However, arsenal fans should not get too cocky because the same thing might happen to them because like fergie, Wenger won`t be there forever so it will be interesting to see how they cope when he eventually leaves.

Just got home and couldn't wait to get on here. A massive shout out to all the lads today. Everyone put a good shift in.
I'm not on about the team! I'm on about our away fans. Absolutely superb and it takes me back to a time when I could shout and sing with the best of them. Many a time I've been hoarse the next day, still do my best now though. Something special is happening now. The belief is there and the support, especially away, is brilliant. Let's keep it up. Now the team, what can you say, the lads are starting to believe and are giving 100% every game. Support and believe, we are going upwards, maybe not yet but, maybe, just maybe it is our time again. Making this old fella happy and feeling young again.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fair play to the Utd fans at the end as well. That was old school Man Utd.

{Ed001's Note - what can I say? I am still buzzing! It was almost easy today, United never looked like they had an answer to us. Shocked that we got the pens, even though they looked the right decisions, it just never happens there. I was too excited and enjoying it far too much to actually get a real appraisal of the performance. I have family staying over and so we were all there dancing and singing and loving every second. It did make it difficult to actually watch though! Still the party is still going here.}

May not be popular but I wanted to give Mark Clattenburg a mention. He's had a couple of shockers against us leading up to this, and taking away my bias for the penalties, I thought he had a good game.

In such a high tempo game with crunching tackles I've seen so many of these spoilt with constant whistle blowing and stop/start refereeing. He let the game flow well and gave both teams the benefit if the doubt a few times rather than yellow card every challenge.

I wouldn't agree with every decision but they did even out for both sides I felt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed suffolk red - they had a pen challenge - and although we had 3 pens - we could have had at least 2 more - so I ain't bitter - I liked the way he let the game play

Agree0 Disagree0

He had a shocker, The 2nd was a dubios decision and sturridge dived for the third. We should have had 2 others but 3 pens was the right amount.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play to the ref, though he had a pretty good game, tried to keep it flowing both ways, even though the mancs will disagree. Can you imagine what would of happened had Coward Webb been in charge? Lucky to have been given 1 penalty, so good for him for having the courage on calling them.

Just want to say very well done to Liverpool today. United fans seem to be concentrating on the shambles that was our performance, and it was don't get me wrong. However your lads were brilliant and totally deserved to win the match, by more than the three that it ended up. You were completely superior in every single department.

I thought Suarez and Sturridge were fairly quiet for the most part, but still managed to have an impact on the outcome of the game. That is vital and will be a very useful tool for you in the run in. Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson were very good and you have a gem in Flanagan, he will play a lot of games for LFC. Gerrard was his usual self again as well, fantastic player.

I would put City as slight title favourites, but would not rule out Liverpool one bit, you are right in the mix.

Well played today and good luck in the run in.

Steven (United fan)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hey Steven, when I saw your starting 11 and I thought, to be fair, that's not a bad line-up. Why you played so poorly is beyond me, but we'll take the 3pts, sit back and savour the moment and then get ready for our next game away to Cardiff.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Steven,

Sure we all appreciate your honest feedback, I can't remember a time when we expected to win at ot then actually out played our hopes, and that's not a pi** take. Utd are a big club with obvious history but the decline is shocking, not saying it might happen your way but we didn't expect it here in 1990. where do you lads see man u next season?

It's a hard job to follow AF but Moyes. squad or managerial ability?

Agree0 Disagree0

Statto, on the contrary for me.
Definitely too many cooks in the Utd line up. Rooney, who runs into RVP's areas, who then has to work the channels which is not where you want him. Rooney also drops off and this has pushed Mata out wide, which is a real waste and highlights his lack of tracking back, The Hair was v good for Everton pushed on but now I don't know what his role is. What a mess. Over £60m spent on what they don't need.
Moyes looks ill as well. He's aged ten years in the last ten months.

Agree0 Disagree0

Never thought I'd say this. But putting everything aside. The United fans today that stayed and sang for their club, they were class

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Mar 2014 18:54:57
Thought the key today was the balance that we had with Allen and Henderson pressing and putting pressure on United in possession and moving the ball quickly.

For me, Allen was man of the match, quietly efficient, I started the season as a sceptic and thought he should be moved on but he has been proving himself a valuable player with his graft, guile and passing.

Even if we don't win the league, the improvement that we have made on last year is incredible.

Well done to all at the club from top to bottom.

Today sets a benchmark for the rest of the season, as long as we keeping taking it one game at a time and playing with that intensity anything is possible.

It's our job as supporters to give it our all and sing our hearts out for the lads.

9 cup finals to go. Bring it on!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree about Allen - he's so neat, tidy and efficient and doesn't shirk a tackle. He hardly ever loses the ball. He's half the size of Fellaini and matched him in every tackle and quite frankly played him off the park.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if we play this midfield against city and Chelsea we can win, just make sure that there centre midfield gets no time on the ball and expose their lack of pace at the back.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Mar 2014 18:35:40

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not the time for this fellow reds. Telling each other that we can't be happy for our team is, in my opinion, out of place at this time. Slagging off fellow posters for their earlier pessimism is no better than them slagging off our team.

great result today - don't think we even got out of canter. My prediction was 1-3. I was giving Manchester United too much credit. I also thought stevie would score twice (i just thought one would be a 30 yard screamer). knew he would get man of the match though - he f*****g loves it!

now watching the london derby - and my question is: if you could sign one player from each side, who would it be? fantasy football style!

for me:
spuds - sandro
arsenal: rosicky - what a goal! - but been good for ages

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For me

Arsenal = Oxlaide Chamberlain simply on potential, age and the position he plays.

Tottenham = Sandro

Much tougher to pick as I'd take any of Sandro, Eriksen, Townsend, Lamella, Vertonghen or loris.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lamella? Now that is a punt. Are you waiting on him coming good?

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play on the ox - a game changer - but every time I watch risicky he does something great - it would be tough between the two

the thing about the spuds is, they are a team full of great individuals but are a case of 'smaller than the sum of their parts' - sandro is solid though.

to be fair though - we are above them both, just beat our biggest rivals - and in contention for the league. no one is talking about scraping 4th - we want to win this.many happy days at anfield in the future!

And so it began as the ferocious intent of the Mighty Red Army gathered pace, their chests out and their lungs full, eyes bristling with focus, hearts filled with courage, pride and belief and with mesmerising speed they tore down the United flanks! Time after time they breached the hapless Devils defence in energetic and relentless waves. Their confidence in full view with every run, every pass and every move whilst their enemy stood back in confused disbelief, then the breakthrough a move culminating from a simple ball into the box and the inevitable and sly purposeful hand from the baby elzebub pushing the ball away illegally from the marauding genius Luis. Silence deafened the turf inside the stadium of nightmares as if Coward Webb was once gain about to appear and with extreme obvious bias to spoil the beginning of the end! But today smelled different from the outset and indeed it felt different and that was because a new mediator was about to come to the fore, a new and articulate MC and unbelievably a fair referee. That man was no other than Mark Clattenburg who without hesitation or fear of being harassed or indeed bullied by the old UTD hierarchy gave with genuine honesty the blatant penalty!. Through the drama filled crowds one name was chanted and continuously shouted out, that name was not just heard on the pitch but echoed out in every red living room across the planet - louder and louder they all chanted Gerrard! Gerrard! Gerrard! Steven Gerrard was that man, he was our leader, our home grown general and the heartbeat of our Red machine - powerful, purposeful, composed and considered. With experienced and professional poise he stepped up to mark and took centre stage against the tall over-confident keeper. Then with exquisite accuracy he despatched the ball effortlessly inside the right hand post giving the young pretender no hope and with raised celebratory hands his army of Red Supporters renewed belief. The teams elation was overwhelming as they celebrated the goal with their captain in a joyous and rapturous hug!. Such togetherness and honesty was obvious to any Red as the Rhapsodic spirit in me took over! The timing of the goal could not have come at a better time for the script as the Devils fire began to flicker and fade and the Red Army continued to press home their advantage before half-time! As the nerves turned into adrenalin and the realism starting to hit many the beer cups were re-filled and all that remained of the break was a few crumbs before the 2nd half started! United fans tried hard to lift their shambolic, dis-jointed over achievers as the game got underway but The Reds were having none of it as the imperious Joe Allen connected with a superb ball from Henderson in the penalty area only to be shoved clumsily to the floor by the dangerous liability that was Phil Jones! Once again silence fell as in anticipation the visiting supporters held their breath - but there was no such concerns as the authoritative Clattenburg signalled for a second pen! Surely now the long running battle with the Devil was going to swing back in the favour of the gods! And so it was up stepped Gerrard and with consummate ease he stroked in Liverpool's second! If the season was a painting then today was the day that the artist BR sketched out his characters on to the canvas and added the colour to his masterpiece! With Moyes in turmoil and Utd in disarray LFC were awarded a generous third penalty only this time Gerrard struck the upright in his attempt to add yet more gloss to his historical artwork! Disappointment was shortlived as chance after chance fell away and then Super Suarez delicately chipped in a fortunate but well deserved third goal! What a statement! What a Result! and What a future! 0-3 to the boys and the dream of a title gathering pace. Better still The devil brought to his knees in front of several thousand gargoyles and goblins and the fading legacy already in tatters. Today was historical, today was mesmerising, today was the new tomorrow!

We must now believe EDS - collective hope and enthusiasm will only help us to keep this going! Let us make sure we maintain the positivity!!

great all round performance today from the team, Would of been brilliant to see Stevie G score the 3rd penalty & become the first player to score 3 penalties in one premiership match & more so at Old Trafford. Though we should of had a 4th when Carrick clipped Sturridge, but still take the win. Shows how far we have come this year & more so how crap the mancs really are under Moyes. We have heart & spirit, utd? Enough said. brilliant banner unfurled by the supporters saying how moyes is a football genius! Credit to Brendan for the tactics, no wonder Barca are watching him. Keep up the great work lads, Campions league place assured at this rate & who knows. A few great signings in the summer & we can challenge now for years to come. YNWA

Great win we should have scored more but maybe that's just being greedy. Great effort from Allen today he's pressing was excellent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Completely agree, Allen was superb today - Rodgers made a bold but correct decision in dropping Coutinho to the bench - we were solid and gave them very little. Allen is to be commended - I'm criticised him a lot but he is playing well, long may it continue.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, shrewd move and Allen played his heart out.

Only a couple of games to go and hopefully we'll get forth spot guaranteed which will be a fantastic achievement for all involved including the owners for making it all possible. I'm not sure we'll win the league but how fantastic is it to be back in the hunt.

Well I stand corrected! We dominated the whole game from start to finish, they literally had the Rooney shot and that was about it. Absolutely delighted! Gerrard unlucky not to get his hattrick, although in fairness, Sturridge used an underhanded tactic to give him the chance. These things should be banned from next season, hate seeing it. But either way we were well deserving of the win, and to be honest, Rafael should have been sent off, so United can't complain about finishing with ten men.

Dare we believe? Not yet for me, but I'm not far off being convinced. I said before the game playing Joe Allen over Coutinho would be a game changer and it was, he played brilliantly and ran his socks off!

Great win to cap off a great weekend for us Irish Reds! Onwards and upwards!

Chaps & co

When a team puts in a shift like that.
And when a team puts in that much effort (all over the pitch) then they deserve to win.

I am often critical of the word 'outstanding'. but not today!

On a sad note, I'm not a betting man by any stretch, but had a tenner on us winning 4 nil (66-1).
I have never felt elation and deflation at the same time.

Hey-ho. them's the breaks.

Very happy with that performance. Not only did we beat them by a good margin, we also kept a clean sheet, away from home, at Old Trafford. I know they haven't been up to it this season but as they say for this game, all form goes out the window.

Its a game of passion and commitment and that's exactly what we saw today. from Liverpool. Utd didn't even get into the game until the 50th minute and even then they were less than convincing. We pressed them, hurried them and downright fought with them to win that match. It was fantastic to see Flanagan getting stuck in the way he did but in future, he could maybe relax a little as he could have easily been sent off today for silly little fouls and obstructions. I don't think that Vidic getting sent off changed the game at all, we were in the driving seat from the start, albeit with a bit of work to do early in the second half. but we held on well to keep our clean sheet intact. Brilliant that Suarez got the 3rd. Was hoping he would score today, for obvious reasons.

Anyway, great win, looking forward to the final run in. going to be as exciting a finish as we have seen, with 4 teams realistically, now, going for the title.

Lets just hope we back that win up with wins at Cardiff and at home against Sunderland next week.

WE'RE going to WIN THE LEAGUE!

Hi Eds. I'm sure you're going to have your work cut out today so I'll keep it short. I thought that we would win today, as the best team usually does, but it was the manner in which we did it. We totally slapped them in every area. Do we now dare to dream? Probably not as the reality is we come up marginally short. But jeezy cheezy. I'm old enough to remember the great title teams of the eighties and I can honestly say that this current team fills me with the same excitement. Well what can I say?

First of all, it showed real class of the United fans to sing Gerrards name so much during the game and for Stevie to repay them by scoring 2 goals. It should have been 3 but that would be greedy.

Secondly. Again we come to Old Trafford and don't get what we deserve. We should have had penalties and Clatenberg shirked the issue. i'm with you Ed001, these refs have no b#lls.

Next. I have to show my disappointment in the SaS today. They will have harder afternoons down the pub and didn't really show a great deal today but you can't be great every game I guess.

United did have their moments in the game though and they did show their intent midway thru the second half when introducing Cleverly. You could see as soon as he came on, wagging his finger straight away. "I will pass it sideways boys" or was the back the way?

My last 2 points are United related again. Huge respect to the way the fans got behind the team when they were 3 down. Although I think they got the song wrong. "All we are singing is give us a goal" would have been more appropriate.

Lastly. Where is me old mucker Sydney? Now there were posters on here who give him some stick (bordering on abuse) when he gave his 20 point gap prediction at the start of the season. You know who you are! Care to come on now and apologise? 6 more points and he will be right. I believed in you Sydney when many others didnt.

Yes, tactically perfect from Rodgers. In fact, ever since the Aston Villa game, when we struggled with Gerrard moving into the freshly-injured Lucas' position, we've been brilliant tactically. Pre-match butterflies starting to kick in! It's a mixture of nervousness and excitement, mostly nerves simply because King Cleverley is only on the bench today!

Tactical switch for BR, Allen again for an attacking player, but it is something we need against teams like this. Sterling is great at getting back too, which could work in our favour as I can see Rafael getting caught out. So in my opinion it's the right move by BR to drop Coutinho, and bring him on for the second half if needed.

Also, why are people getting carried away? It's against MANCHESTER UNITED, not a League 2 side. United are 7th, it's not like they're in a relegation battle. Win this and they are only 8 points behind us. FAR from an easy game. Okay so maybe they're not as feared as they were under SAF, but they still have a quality team, and a stronger squad than ours. I just feel we are getting too carried away here, yes we have great confidence going into the game, but Liverpool vs United games are always close, no matter what position both teams are in.

I'm certainly not getting carried away, and I don't expect us to win today. I'm going for a 2-2 draw, Rooney and (as much as I hate him) Fellaini for United, and Suarez and Hendo for us. It all depends on how we start the game. If we start like we did against Spurs and Arsenal we should get the win, if not it could be a long day.

Come on lads, prove me wrong!
Cheers,

To all my Red brothers in arms - today's the day when we stand toe to toe with our 2014 destiny, today is when we stand up in lions den and slay the beast - the beast that hunted us down and stole our ground, the beast that tried to rip up our history and devour our greatness! No more self pity or wound licking for today we keep moving, pressing forward, standing together and taking the hunt to the enemy! Press on the Reds and slay the devils, show no mercy as weakness, meekness and sorrow comes from letting the beast live! No today we take the battle forward and splatter the arena with our colours and our beliefs and show the faceless the real art of war and the way to announce the change in power - no more after today will we be struggling or out of breath, for today we cheer and tomorrow we reign and in the future we will rise again with an announcement of power, victory and realistic hope! This is not a dream, this is a legacy and a way of life! So today we will Live and from now on we will conquer! We are Liverpool the greatest, the mightiest and the most beautiful! LFC is Back! Believe it! Live It! and enjoy it!

I really don't get this. All the pressure is on Utd and rightly so. They are playing at home and their fans will expect the to turn up. Something they have hardly done all season. We should just play like we have done all season and that should be enough. Ask yoursel 2 questions. Where would you rather be? In Utd's position or ours? I prefer it when we are slight underdogs or at least when we are not being so heavily backed!

I am not saying we will lose at all but all this over confidence is not doing us favours or my nerves!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The main thing is the players and the manager aren't over confident and they are keeping their feet on the ground. As we know in football confidence can be the difference between winning and losing.

As long as we continue to play at the same level we have been we will keep winning no matter who the opposition are. That's not me being over confident, that is me having faith in my team.

The problem with Liverpool is we only have two primary defensive players, three if Lucas Leiva is playing or, at the beginning of the season, we play three at the back.
Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique, our first choice full backs, are both wing-backs. Wingers with defensive duties.
This is leaving our wings open to counter attacks and our centre backs receiving a lot of pressure.

We need to replace our wing backs with full backs, to strengthen our defence.
Martin Kelly, Jon Flanagan and Andre Wisdom are ones for the future, but could they be ones for the present too?
Jack Robinson and Brad Smith are in the same category for the left, but they definitely need competition.
We have been linked with Fabio Coentrao and Ryan Bertrand recently, either one would be better defensively than Jose Enrique.

What do you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There has been no interest shown in Coentrao by Liverpool.}

Enrique is more defensive then offensive type off fullback. He loves runnig forward but he always takes the homejob and overpoweres the attackers with his pace and strenght. I'd love to see him comeback

Guys guys guys. Calm down!
I know Liverpool have been soo very well but the posts are way off the mark with dismissing Manchester United and thinking . Oh three points Sunday and we are in for a shout of the league!

U all forget Manchester United will be up for this game more than any since the last time we played them. They will fight harder against Liverpool more than against Chelsea arsenal etc

And u all forget how lucky Liverpool were against Swansea and Fulham
Liverpool defence is still rubbish it's a clear fact . And when u have skrtel u get problems in a game

So the best you can expect from this game is a draw which I think it will be .

Only way I think lfc will win is if they score early and first.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No doubt it will be a tough game.
Man Utd at Old Trafford in front if a full house. You're still Premier League champions we should not forget that.

Yes United may raise their game against us but so do we. Also we weren't lucky against those teams we deserved the wins and grinded out results which if I'm mistaken is how utd have been winning the title for years! But saying that I do think it'll be tight, ever a 1-1 or a flurry of goals.

We should have an idea of where the club will finish in the table after next week. With Arsenal going to Chelsea on the 22nd, I think both teams will drop points, while we are away at Cardiff, which could be a difficult game but hopefully we can scrape a win. Then Man City are away to Manchester United on the 25th, (I always support the team that's facing Utd. but that's a bit difficult to do when that team is fighting you for the league, so ill hope for a 0-0 draw) while we entertain Sunderland at Anfield the next day, who have seen a change in form of late and are now starting to look like a team again. but, its at Anfield, so I think it will be a comfortable win.

But all of that is in the future. We need to make an example of Utd and show the rest of the league that we mean business at the business end of the season. There's going to be some serious squeaky bum time and we're the ones with the advantage. No pressure football, top 2 to come to Anfield in April. I've seen people posting that a win tomorrow would almost guarantee 4th place. I see it as a win tomorrow ALMOST puts the fate of title in our own hands. Why settle for the ceiling when you can reach for the stars.?

I think we are going to win the league. I just have that feeling. Its like, Fergie has watched us for 20 odd years, retires and as soon as his back is turned, there's us winning the league again. I just don't see Chelsea winning it. I have never been a fan of bringing back ex managers as it very rarely works and I think he will just fall short. Don't think Man City will win it because I'm still unconvinced with their away form and if they lose to Utd next week, it opens things right up. Arsenal, gave it a good go. Still could turn it on in the last few games but I think they are done for the season. That leaves us in the top 4. We have been playing some of the best football I've ever seen this season, with 2 of the most deadly strikers on the planet at the minute. Put that with the belief that the club has now after an incredible season and the fact that Stevie G won't be around forever, so he will want that title more than anyone at the minute if he thinks for one second that its up for grabs.

I was 4 years old the last time Liverpool won the league, so its fair to say I don't remember much of it. there are fans on both sides of me in the spectrum. fans that weren't even born the last time we finished top and those who have enjoyed the success for a generation before us. let's hope that come may, that trophy is in our cabinet and we can all say that we have witnessed greatness.!

(my Utd supporting uncle bet me £100 that Manchester United will finish above Liverpool for 5 consecutive seasons, starting from next season. safe to say, I took that bet. )

YNWA! RT96!

I've had a similar bet £20 for the last 6 years that we would finish above utd ;) this is my year whey hey.

Eds or readers, any particular reason why the English youngsters go on loan to English clubs and the foreigners go out of the country for loan? wouldn't a fast paced short passing, and ball control game make Rodgers focus on sending most of his youngsters out of England? Is it a language thing? Just curious. Hope Liverpool pull a Pacquiao and KO Hitman early!

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - Most English youngster struggle in a non-English environment. As an American I have always found this odd. Look at how few English players of whatever age do well on the road in Europe. Perhaps they miss the Fish and Chips?}

You know, the only 2 England players I can remember really having a career abroad were Hargreaves and Beckham. And Becks was in the twilight of his career.

Do I remember a young lad from tranmere perhaps being signed by a German team a little while ago? Wonder how he's getting on.

Isn't there Eric Dier at Sporting?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ian Harte played in Spain for a few years and did ok. There are a few examples but by an large English players either struggle to make the transition to foreign football and culture or are too scared to make the move in the first place. McManaman an Beckham are the only ones who did particularly well that I can think of. Oh and Ince did ok at Inter didn't he?

I find the English are more family/home orientated ed than the bulk of Europe. ie your French, Germans and Spanish so we tend to travel less and settle worse. Also our culture is more unique whereas the mainland Europe culture is more compatible with each other.
Language is also a major issue, it's very rare you will find a working class English boy with a second language or even a tiny grasp of one yet the Europeans seem to be at least conversational in at least another language.
Basically the English struggle to adapt to other cultures due to a poor education or at least a narrow minded one.

{Ed001's Note - just to reply to the previous poster asking about Dale Jennings, who left Tranmere to join Bayern. He failed to settle (figures!) and is now playing for Barnsley after signing for them in the summer. He had a loan spell at MK Dons, but now is pretty much a regular for Barnsley, though he has yet to hold down one position in the side, playing all over the front line. Only managed one goal, though, if memory serves me right, it was a cracker.}

Ed02.
That is down to British players not being anywhere near as good as the press make them out to be. They are not that highly regarded outside of the UK. It is also to do with a British mentality of being a bit arrogant. A bit like America only on a smaller scale.

{Ed002's Note - They don't travel well IR.}

Just been perusing the United page regarding tomorrows game. They are absolutely bricking it. stop Sturridge blah blah, watch Suarez blah blah, Sterling going to embaress us etc etc. This is not a gloating post, just a recognition that even if we don't win tomorrow, utd still have some world class forwards by the way, we are becoming a force again, and all the credit needs to go to Rodgers. So whatever the result tomorrow, let's appreciate how far we have come this season.

Brendan, you have performed a minor miracle this season, and all us Scousers love you for it. COYR.

Good point Walton, this will be no easy game today and as you say, they have 3 world class forwards in Rooney, Mata and RVP, they will be right up for this match.

We've not won at OT since the 1-4 victory 5 or so years ago and since our away from has been average, today will be a real test of how far we've come.

I think this is our best chance in a long time to go and get a result at OT.

Instead of trying to sign the likes of gaitan and konoplyanka I would rather if Liverpool tried to buy Rodrigues or chamberlain . And it's not match day fever I've always thought highly or jay and the ox both are technically sound can create and score goals . Also I think there attitude is great . Just a thought unfortunately the fans have no control over signings

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Helen is not available right now.}

I would rather have Lalana. Than all of them ( maybe not helen ;) ) .but the facts are for the price of lalana we could probably get two players!

Agree0 Disagree0

Helen is always available pity James Wade has been there urrrrrgh.

Good luck tomorrow boy's.

Although, in the grand scheme of things, from an Arsenal viewpoint, a draw would be nice.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So why wouldn't a loss be better? YOU COME ON OUR PAGE TO WISH BAD UPON US! How could you root for Manchester United; just slow down for a second.

In all seriousness, thanks for the goodluck shout :). I'm hoping for a similar outcome as our Tottenham game.

Ok TJ, I hope you lose 7-0 (smiles).

Not going to happen DG, the lucky pants won't allow it.

Hi eds is it true we may loose Rodgers to barca in the summer? Lots of reports saying he's rejected a new 2m a year deal at Liverpool & he's holding out for more money?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I don't want to get into anything involving money but Brendo wants one day to work in Spain. I don't think the time is right now.}

He'd be daft to go to Barca this early in his career. Firstly, Barca tend to appoint from within these days. Secondly, Barca have been a great side, one of the very greatest. However, their success has relied on Messi who seemed to be indestructible in the past.
All those games from aged 16/17 will be starting to catch up with him. He will suffer burn out soon as will Barca.
Failing at Barca could seriously damage his career. I agree with Ed, it is definitely the wrong time to go to Barca.
