I don't see why everyone is being so dismissive of Aguero?! The same people were probably saying the same thing about Torres coming to us.

In the end, Atletico are struggling, with their manager leaving and a poor season once again, Aguero may not be as expensive as some are making out.

Theres a few reliable people on twitter who are confident that we have a chance of signing him, and that talks have already taken place.

Oh and by the way I think we will sign, marin, cahill, bojan(loan to buy) aly cissoko, mata.

Is there any truth behind certain players knowing who the management plan on bringing in?

16 May 2011 22:56:29
Fernando Gago would be an absolute bargain at £6m, why don't we go for him!?

is there any interest?

=====================

Fernando Gago is poor mate. Much better options out there.

Dan {Ed001's Note - the story all came from Bild, there was interest a while back, I have not heard of it being revived for the summer though, other than this one story.}

Thanks Ed001

- injury porn, what did he do snap his banjo?

P.s Ed do you have some telepathic connection with Kenny or are on speaking terms? This poster seems to think these rumours go straight to the top.

Night all

16 May 2011 22:44:10
The likes of Aguero, Bale and Benzema won't be signing as they are massively over-priced. the owners will spend but won't spend ridiculous amounts on single players. we won't have £100 million to spend, more like £40-50 million with player sales which could go to £60-70 million tops. yes we are debt free and the king is back but we have to keep our feet on the ground and not expect too much as we'll just disappoint ourselves coz it happens every season.

in my opinion, we'll bring in 2 wingers, a left-back, centre-back and striker.

what are your thought Ed? Am I being negative or realistic?

Double B {Ed001's Note - realistic, if anything optimistic I think.}

16 May 2011 22:39:44
Read about Alexendar Pato of Milan in rumars. ED if its true then please ask KK not to do so, too many injury in every month. good player but very much of INJURY PORN. I live in Italy watch lots of him.

aah that typo made my day :) and i doubt we will sign him as damien comolli is looking for players who don't get injured a lot

Editors, do you think Napoli will be willing to sell Fabio Quagliarella after a season long loan to Juventus? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Napoli want to make the move of Cavani permanent and offer up a player, cash and part ownership of a couple of youngsters. Part of the problem is that the player they wish to offer Palermo (Fabio Quagliarella) is on a loan deal to Juventus with an option to buy at the end of the loan, albeit he is out injured right now. Manchester City, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal have at one time shown an interest. I think it is unlikely that he will move to Liverpool.}

Okay, thanks for the information , this is what I needed to know, cheers. (Not Sarcastic)

16 May 2011 22:09:13
How much do you lads think it would cost for the double swoop of zippy and bungle? I know zippy has a bit of an attitude but he is class, and that bungle is a big lad who would be a slightly cheaper option to Cahill but just as good in my opinion.

16 May 2011 22:04:55
Dear Eds,
For the third time of asking, what would make of Mark Noble of West Ham United as a possible signing, young, bag loads of ability, and would be a much cheaper than Scott Parker.
Every one is going on about signing the world and his dog, i think Noble, Jarvis and James McCarthy of the 3 possible relegation teams would be good signings. Also take into account that KK said it doesn't matter if you spend big or small but spend effectively, and I believe these signings would help improve the squad.
Your thoughts PLEASE EDs!

Rebel_Red {Ed002's Note - Mark Noble is a decent player - but just another possible option for midfield and one the club has no interest in at present. I could add dozens more, but what's the point?}

Mark, in sorry that you got relegated mate, but your not good enough for us. . if Roy was still here then you probably had a chance, but unfortunately for you we have moved on since Roy. Ask Everton. .

Friedel is close to signing. He'll join in a free transfer. Liverpool is where he started his career in English football.
The idea is, he'll stay as Reina's back up (And in case, which is very unlikely; Reina leaves then we'll have a top goalkeeper for free.) Not so many teams has 2 keepers in their team who are among the top 5 keepers in the league. He will then eventually take a coaching role in the academy.

16 May 2011 21:29:11
ED, did we establish who the VIP visitors were at Anfield for Spuds game??
Robkop {Ed002's Note - We settled on the owners.}

16 May 2011 21:52:54
We have been in talks with Matthew Upson who is available on a free, impressed with KING KENNY'S vision for the club and prepared to turn down Spurs and Everton!

***************************************

He can be impressed with Popeye the sailors mans vision for the club for all i care. Why on earth would we want Upson at our club, he isn't good enough. he's been relegated with his current club, i think that might give a clue as to his defensive prowess! I think we can aim a tad higher surely than that!

Hi Eds, do you reckon we have any chance of signing some officials for next season? I was thinking 3 refs and 6 linesmen could do it for us, but it may be difficult as I've heard SAF is in talks with Marriner and Mason! !

Do you reckon DC is interested in that Chinese kid on youtube, he's young, skillful and doesn't look like he's injury prone :-D

16 May 2011 21:45:58
Funny how Reina has commited himself to Liverpool after talks with Comolli, and then all of a sudden we're favourites to sign Aguero. . . . coincidence?

I put a post on here a day or two ago about Dirk on the wing, and how abysmal he is there. Seing as yesterday was a blast from the (recent) past - as Dirk returned to his Messi-like best, I just wanted to point out that I said after every crappy performance from Dirk there, you go to read a 'Dirk issues rallying cry' story on LFC.TV. I called it the 'Dirk PR machine'.

I went to LFC.TV today and saw the latest one. . . I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. . . 'i'll play anywhere I can help the team' says Dirk, like the Trojan Warrior he is. . . 'then get the f*** off the f***ing wing then' I say.

I'm not saying Dirk is crap. Just that those that think he can play wide are mentalists - and I hope they noticed the Dirk PR machine is covering his tracks, these are the sort of stories that have made Dirk 'undroppable' as far as 'real fans' are concerned over the past few years.

Don't shout at me - if you read the old post you'll see I'm very fond of Dirk the striker - but this saga has gone on too long - I swear, I wish we still had Oyvind Leonhardsen when I see Dirk there. . . and I have my doubts about ANYONE who thinks otherwise.

(Sorry KK - Rafa & Roy couldn't see what was right in front of their eyes and it cost them, but I know you'll sort it out in the summer!).

BJH YNWA (I said the last one would be the last post about this issue. . I didn't anticipate Sunday - so sorry).

Can everyone who is posting ridiculous rumours about West Ham players please give it a rest. FFS they just got relegated yesterday, that could easily been us if our owners had stuck with Roy H, I don't think any of the hammers squad that went down yesterday eve are good enough for our club which is now going forward , any of the players mentioned on here are in there 30's therefore are not key to our owners long term plans. . . I want to see fresh young hungry players who have no fear and want to succeed. . . . .youth and hunger with Kennys fatherly approach with the experienced players we have will steer us better than picking up cheap 2nd rate players who do not cut it.

What is all this rubbish about pleeplacing Carroll! Give the guy a chance, he's 22, you can't just make a judgement after like 5 games! Anyway rumours:

A.Johnson-15m
juan manuel mata-20m
A.Cisssoko-12m
Sakho-18m
Mavreaux-free
Gervinho-12m. Total spend-77m

Out:
Poulsen-1m
Cole-4.5m
El zhar-0.5m
Jovanovic-4m
Aqualani-10m
Agger-8m
N'gog-5m
Insua-loan
Konchesky-1m
Jones-free
Soto-free. Total-34m. Overall-53m

With a team like that, we'll be in the trophies again! YNWA

Anybody is an improvement on Poulsen, Jovanovic, Cole and Ngog and the whole point of transfers and spending money is to improve!

16 May 2011 20:44:45
I just read this article online at ESPN. An interview with Reina regarding his commitment to the club and his thoughts regarding the future. I've pasted an interesting segment from the article.

- 'He told reporters: "I think the owners are preparing a big summer and hopefully we are going to be right in there with transfers and those players who are coming in will help us to improve the squad." '

What I find interesting is the phrase, "and those players WHO ARE coming in will help us to improve the squad."

'Who ARE coming in' is the interesting part. Usually, when being coached before a press conference or interview, it's fairly common to be given guidelines so as not to give away any details regarding particular subject matter, especially when questions are posed by persistent reporters. This is why, often, you will hear the same answer repeated over and over when being queried from different angles on a certain subject. What is interesting here is that Reina may (and I stress 'may') have let slip with a perfectly natural sentence, perhaps hinting that he knows about some firm plans for incoming transfers, or it may just be an innocent slip and the way he talks. Just caught my eye and thought it was worth posting.

Please post on the rumours page Eds. I'll echo the majority and say great site, keep it up.

And please don't jump on me for any typos or grammatical shortcomings. I'm on my ipad in a meeting, so this is unedited!

Greetings from SoCal,
KG

Liverpool not going in for Gary Cahill any longer as Man City have come in for him and pushed the price up to nearly £20m. Attentions have been turned to Jan Vertonghen of Ajax. Jose Enrique is looking less likely - Dalglish has made a personal check on Aly Cissokho and likes him. If Agger leaves Liverpool will move for Phil Jones who has an asking price of £9m.
===============================
Gary Cahill has a release clause of £15 Million, because he played for England, this meaning that any team wanting to buy him only has to come up with that amount of cash and Bolton have to accept!
Right Ed? {Ed001's Note - I have not heard of a release clause sorry.}

Aww cool, thanks for the reply. . your speaking so confidently about dunc and how the information is not reliable that I am going to stop reading it :D Can I ask do you know dunc perosnally? DUNK doesn't KNOW BEST :D {Ed001's Note - no, but I was a member on his site a long time ago, and I left because of the bull he comes out with. He does just copy freely available stories and charge for them or simply make things up. It is only the same as a newspaper does to be fair, they have to have something to say when they are charging you for it.}

Ahh thanks a lot for the reply, I will now defo not be reading any of his stuff and I shall be sticking to your reliable information :D, Also I am not a full member btw mate, juts the free stuff! :D

Dream signings:

- aguero 40m

I said this before we signed Andy Carroll. To be a good striker in the Premier League you need to have 2 quality attributes
- Pace ( Must )
- Finishing ( Obviously )
And this leads to my next point we need to sign
- Benzema
- Aguero
Opinions edd ??? {Ed001's Note - I don't see the need for either, Benzema is far too lazy for my liking and Aguero is too similar to Suarez.}

Nobody knows whats going on inside anfield.
Not even me. ???????

16 May 2011 20:18:30
Reina has decided to stay because of positive discussions with kk, dc and john henry.what he was told was that there will be major investment in the squad this summer with one major signing to top it all off.this signing could possibly be aguero or neymar.there will also be 5 other additions to the first team squad and these have already been identified by kk and dc and priliminary negotations have already begun.from what i have been told some of these players have not been mentioned in the gossip columns and will be as much of a suprise as was the raul meireles deal .
what i do know is that the proposed stadium issue is almost ready to be made public with both redevelopment and a new stadium being considered.the deciding factor is costs, but a new stadium with a 70,000 capacity is being seriously considered with a build cost of 300 million because there are 2 serious companies willing to buy the naming rights.adidas have offered to pay 150 million for the rights and the name would be the adidas arena.the other is rumoured to be coca cola but this has not been confirmed.john henry and ian ayre feel that if they do indeed go with the new stadium then any new name should include anfield within the stadium name.a new stadium makes financial sense and work could start almost immediatley and revenue due to lower attendances if they redevelop anfield would not be a issue.plans for a major stadium in stanley park have already been granted and although the newly designed stadium by afl architects would have to go before planning again it will be just a formality to pass as the council are desperate for the whole anfield area to be regenerated.the site of anfield will become a park area with the memorial to hillsboro to be the focal point, and not forgetting the many people who have had their ashes scattered on the hallowed turf after their passing.

I've heard one of the reasons Pepe is staying is because a couple of Spanish players are due this summer one of them is supposed to be Mata. I hope so I hear he has been learning English over the past few years and is ready for life in the prem he already has friends at Liverpool and is guaranteed first team football now its just a case of agreeing a fee.

Ed I heard on ssn that upson is available on a free transfer . Surely he would be a good addition and I would hope kk has some interest . I know hes getting on a bit but would be a good sub and push our other cbs to play better . What do u think ?? {Ed001's Note - he is awful, why do you think West Ham have such a poor defence in the first place? He has always been useless and is now getting on, injury-prone and useless.}

this pretty much sums up all the nuts who come out in silly season-Andy Carroll has only recently joined he needs a run of games and a decent pre season, not everyone finds it as easy as Suarez to settle down

also anyone who believes we are signing sanchez aguero messi alonso and kaka need to wake up soon or theyre gonna be VERY dissapointed come next season

{Ed002's Note - Sure there will be at least one person with "Communications" in their job title and they may well be buddies with Mr Dalglish or his "right hand" man. I am slightly suspicious that you contact may be exaggerating just a little. You see, financially, the owners do not have anything like that sort of money to invest in players. If they could borrow the money it would be crippling and unsustainable and to put matters in to context the club turned over less than £200M in total last season. There was me thinking the club was going to be run responsibly. I look forward to tomorrow morning when we see how the £600M is to be spent. I remain humbly the sarcastic personification of evil as you suggest. I am well aware the hate brigade will be out now demanding I am thrown off the site for not belieiving that Liverpool have £600M to spend this summer. I'll take it on the chin.}

What can Liverpool get with a realistic £30 mill and player sales. . . . ?

Clichy (free)
Marveaux (free)
Benzema (22 mill)
Young (18 mill)
Cahill (16 mill)

What do you think eds, reasonable? I am following up on my opinion on 3 European, if not, world class players to come in, with the rest coming in for free. .

The Blob {Ed001's Note - Clichy has a year left on his contract, he is not on a free!}

16 May 2011 19:37:53
Here's who I can see us signing in the summer:
Brad Friedel - May be old but is still a quality goalkeeper and would be a great understudy for Pepe on a free.
Demba Ba - 7 goals in 12 games at a side now relegated. He can cut it and is a good player we could call upon, would cost around £4-5m now I'd guess.
Phil Jones - Would cost double figures, maybe push £8m should Rovers drop. A future England defender to come through here, possibly Carra's long-term replacement.
Matt Jarvis - He is a basic winger with pace, good dribbling skills and a good cross. Would make a good backup and would cost around £5m. Must be good to break into the England set-up at a side fighting relegation.
Charles N'Zogbia - Pacey, good shot, can play either wing, tricky, ticks all the winger boxes and would now cost around £6m.
Sylvain Marveaux - Looks a done deal and with his arrival it does seem likely that either Jarvis or N'Zogbia would join, but it would help our strength in depth.
Charlie Adam - Shown interest in January, but so did Spurs. In the end I expect him to join us, no doubt 'Arry will go for Parker.

And possibly a big marquee player, a new midfield general or a truly world class winger

Let's make this clear. The people who would be playing in the Europa League are:
Winners of FA Cup-Stoke City(initially Manchester City were chosen to play, but since they qualified for Champions League, the runners-up of the FA Cup were picked to play in the Europa League)
Winners of the Carling Cup-Birmingham City
The team who finishes 5th in the Barclays Premier League-Tottenham/ Liverpool.

{Ed002's Note - Plus either Spurs or Fulham has the best available side in the FPL.}

Just heard this morning that Scott Parker, A Young, C Adam, Shane long and Aguero and Leighton Baines will be our summer signings YNWA

That'd be a great summer's work but I'm not sure about Parker. He had a great season but NESV have a policy of signing young players and at 30 he may be a little be beyond for them to sign. .I think with the season that Lucas & Miereles have have since KK signed they may not be as quick to sign another midfielder as they were in January.

Hi ed, mikael owen has tweeted about filling in form for 16 tickets for cl final and complaining it will cost him nearly £4.000, i tweeted back saying poor bugger bet he has to work a day to earn that, then ian rush tweeted, why not boycott the final like you have done for the last 6 yrs, do you think rushie dosn't like him, jimmybosun, {Ed001's Note - no, I think he was just kidding.}

Ed please tell what the bloke who said we have £600 million pound to spend has been on cause i would like some. everyone one will be expecting messi and every other top player in the world to sign. .

{Ed002's Note - I don't think we need him. Ihave been sketching down possible line-ups for next year. Obviously Hazard and Sanchez are nailed on. We already know that Neymar is coming, so I was thinking, do we splash out on Messi and Ganso or not? Perhaps Pastore for midfield?}

Just watched LFC.tv and they showed Webb's dodgey decisions from yesterday. I've been saying for a lomg time on the Manc site that Webb is a sh*ep ref. They even agreed until Fergie said "He is one of the best ref's in the game" then they changed their mind. If Fergie said that Webb is one of the best ref's out there he actually means "Howard Webb has been a good friend to us in the past. Especially against Liverpool & Spurs".

Webb now is like that idiot Graham Poll. He's starting to believe his own hype and wants to be the big star, in the big games. Webb is not the best ref in the PL, Alan Wiley is. And Lee Mason is defo the worse ref in the PL, after Webb of course.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Ps. Sorry for the rant but that Mr Webb, does my head in.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I would have to agree here.

After the WC final, I have observed that he tries to get noticed in the game.

plus his decisions are getting worse with every game.

The penalty he gave at Old Trafford may have been debatable but the GERRARD RED card was simply non sense. . . . .

Wonder how long the FA will continue to ignore the errors. . . . . .

As far as yesterday's game is concerned, less said the better. . . .

On the subject of strikers what a stroke of genius Lfc got Suarez. He has been sensational, how many times has he been our MOM, it not just his goals & assists but his work rate & how many defences has he terrorised from united 2 fulham. Wot a bargain at the price.

How long before the Spanish & Italians & EPL rich club start sniffing? Next summer?

Looking forward to a shoot out
between el pistolero & Hernandez next season! !

Wishful thinking I know, but this is who I'd like to see coming to the club next season:
Podolski
Sweinsteiger
Hazard
Hulk
Lennon
Bale
Sjneider
Young
Any of these would do, but a few of them would be amazing. Again, just wishful thinking, nothing to do with what I've heard from some lad who's a mate of someone's cousin's bird's dad. Any additions, omissions that you'd make, ed? {Ed002's Note - Please don't hold your breath over these. Young may be possible.}

As it stands at the moment all the people who say my friend works in the catering side in anfield, or the shop, why in the world would they be aware of potential signings, as far as rumours go saying aguero is a potential signing seems unlikely, the yonks may have spent 58 mil on suarez and carrol but you forget 50 mil came from the sale of torres, the likely signings will be from lower clubs ie enrique from newcastle, jarvis from wolves, adam from blackpool. or frees like marveaux, not players like aguero who will cost over 40 mil, liverpool will sign in the summer but the likes of aguero, benzema etc are extremely unlikely! and posting on here is doing nothing but getting the naive fans hopes up, agreed ed? {Ed002's Note - Don't drag me in to this.}

16 May 2011 18:38:02
Hi ed, im sick of all pundits and know alls saying we could make top 4 next season but not win league, !WHY!, do other teams play less games than us a season or have more players on the field at same time?it seems to me that if we had kk from the start we wouldn't have been far off this season,
Next season is like a clean slate and i think we stand as much chance as everyone else, we have beaten all the so called big teams this season its just some of the lower teams we have struggled against, so lets all be positive we are on the up,

Quite frankly, I've had it with all the I asked him and he told this carp, it's just b******* no one knows that anything for certain.
I do believe that Young and Marveaux (seems to be very injury prone to me) will sign. The rest is unclear.

Ed/ anyone else know how reliable this Xavier Martoez who keeps posting is? he SEEMS to know what he's on about, at least to a greater extent than most of the people 'in the know' on here {Ed002's Note - No idea but his list of players is just the norm for day-by-day discussions.}

I may be the only one, but i'm quite excited friedel joining! i know its not as interesting as the whole neymar/ sanchez/ ed002 situation, but it would be nice to have a decent number 2, knows the club, provides a great amount of presence and will be the ideal role model (/ future coach?) for not just the young keepers but also the still young Pepe!

DC is in France talking to Matuidi and Cissokho. We put a paltry bid of 3.3m euros for Matuidi as our opening offer, but now we have raised it to 10m euros. And DC and KD have lost interest in Enrique, hence we're looking at Cissokho. His agent faxed us, telling us he would love to join us. Just need to agree a fee with Lyon. Lyon are looking at Enrique as Cissokho's replacement.

We are on the verge of signing a German international, talks are ongoing but progressing nicely. Friedel is very close to signing on a free. We have agreed a fee with AV for Young of 14m, but so have 2 other clubs. We are favourites for him currently.

We have been offered Kaka, Diarra and Gago. We may take up the option of Diarra but only if we fail to get Matuidi. Toulalan and M'Vila want CL

Enquiries have been made for Benzema, Real want 22m. Arsenal not willing to pay that much for him. We are willing to go up to 19m for Mata but Man City or Chelsea could hijack any potential deal. If so, expect us to make a move for Johnson.

Jones and Cahill are top targets for CB but yet again Man City could scupper a deal as Bolton are looking for 15m+. We have made Jones our priority and Vertonghen has emerged as a target due to the stuff with Cahill.

Expect 7 new faces at minimum arriving in the summer.

Cheers,

i think realistically we should aim to achieve what Man city have done next season however we might find it difficult to sign players in the summer seen as pretty much all our targets are wanted by tottenham man city man utd and chelsea. .

Why would Liverpool want to use All of their budget to sign Aguero, it would mean scrimping in other areas where we are very weak and we'll have the same woes next year.

Personally I would like to see a player like Florent Malouda from Chelski come in as an attacking wide man (we could offer regular starts).

I like Ashley young but I don't think he's the answer especially with what Villa would want for him. Adam Johnson on the other hand has shown some real talent and he may get forced out this year depending on what crazy signings Man City have line up.

Realistically I think we'll get:

Jarvis, Enrique, Cahill, Hulk (brainless idiot) and another (Young, downing, SWP, A. Johnson or N'zogbia)

I am shocked to see that Alex O'Hanlon, who we have recently signed from St.Kevins(Dublin) better know as kevs has signed for 1.5M.Believe it or not but i play for the under 16s St Kevins team and we play the 15s some times. Alex played LB or LM would compare him to Bale.He is tall, very pacy and strong.Wouldnt say he was anything to special but he was a handful when we played against him.Ed just so people believe me tell them were my ip address is {Ed002's Note - There is no need not to believe this young man.}

These guys are full of crap IMO. They have no sources connected with the club whatsoever. All they do is rehash stories and rumours they hear on twitter and put them together to come up with stories and gossip that will gain them followers and and a certain amount of kudos with gullible followers. Pure conjecture everthing they say and if you notice they always give themselves an 'out' by saying something like 'but talks are still ongoing and the situation could change very quicky''. Utter boll*X.

It s not the 19th title we need worry ourselves about too much it s the 20th & 21st because there is nobody out there capable of stopping the scum. Anyone even contemplating winning the title must be at least 10to 15 points better team that them. When the refereeing factor added to the SKY factor are taken into account they are almost impossible to beat. You can see from Webb s actions yesterday that they are not even trying to hide their bias anymore. We need a campaign similar to the one that removed H&G to highlight the imbalance towards Ferguscum & his lot. Otherwise KK has to take the gloves off and go toe to toe with him.

Hi ed I know one of you's said koptalk isn't very reliable for accurate information but they are saying we have signed Alex O'Hanlon the irish left winger, says he's 15 years old. Just wondering if this is true? and is he as good as they say? they are saying he's extremely good and mentioned the word "starlet" and real madrid and chelsea tried to sign him.
Cheers, Nelly {Ed001's Note - he is a young Irish lad who had a trial at Madrid a few months back, no idea how good he is and I will guarantee that Dunc has no idea either. As far as I can find out he is joining the Academy, but it is not a professional contract so it is not a signing as such, and he could easily change his mind.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I think I may be able to provide a bit of knowledge on this transfer. Having met Alex in person and being a freind of his dad, he isn't the typical 'starlet' that had Real Madrid 'desperately' clambering for their signature when in fact Madrid took them on a trial, then decided they weren't good enough and moved.
He was offered a deal by Real back in March after an 8-day trial in February. He was also wanted by nearly all the clubs he trialled at (Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton and Arsenal in particular) and he turned down crazy money from Spurs just to play for our Academy

Believe me, I've seen this kid play. He's really good - capable of playing all down the left side and he has been tracked personally by Kenny as far back as July last year. I my opinion, he was the best player in the best youth team Ireland has seen for a while - a team which has since had all their players picked off by big foreign clubs.

I hate teams like Juventus, they can't pay the required amount for Aquilani but can cough up money for Aguero? I'm not saying they are going to 100% sign far from it. They should pay the £16mil or whatever it was, if not they can jog on! Wouldn't mind Aqua-man back in the Liverpool midfield though

Re: 16 May 2011 15:39:27
Hi Ed, whats the score with Kun? Are we really meeting with his agents today or is this just a load of baloney??

Joe the Red {Ed002's Note - Aguero's agents have a meeting today with Juventus in Turin, probably to look at whatever package they have come up with.}

Ed, is this the same Juventus that won't put their hand in their pocket to pay for Aquaman? But found the money for Aguero?? IF the above is true, then LFC should up Aquamans price and play hardball with the Italians. OR we worried we might wake up with a horses head on our beds! !

Lee73 {Ed001's Note - I think it shows how Aqualani has failed to live up to expectations or they would put their hands in their pockets and meet the asking price before someone else gets him.}

I have been monitoring the rumour pages quite a bit, and it humors me o fall the people who think we are going so strong for a midfielder that will soon force Lucas to a reserve role.

He has walked the gauntlet of criticism for two years, and his resilience has made him stronger. He was most improved player this year, and favored as the best player for Liverpool this year. With Dalglish also hailing him as a player that deserves a Kop song it looks he will remain in favor of Dalglish, and he has obtained something that has been missing since the departure of Alonso and Hyppia; which is respect of his team mate and on field and off field leadership. Leadership and respect is not something you can just buy. His talent will continue to improve, and he will remain in the starting 11.

16 May 2011 16:03:17
I have it on good authority that Liverpool have dropped all interest in Marveux, Adam, Young, Enrique and Benzema and are preparing a £50m bid for a person who everytime we have faced him over the last 3 seasons has destroyed us. Mr Howard Webb. I heard he is mulling over this transfer but is unsure due to his ties with Man Utd.

Hi Ed,
I am hearing that if we sign Marveux than he will be a guy who will be at LFC in place of a big name signing, I really don't want to see this happen. I watch French football, my biggest concern on him is his ball crossing ability & his willingness to pass in front of the goal, always want to score even if he can't. I am sure if he can stay fit & play he would be better than Maxi, Joe & Jova. But as Carrol needs crosses i don't think Marveux can provide it!

ED, Will we still sign Marveux, do you think he can feed well for Saurez & Carroll ? {Ed001's Note - I have not heard of any change to the situation, he had an op and we are monitoring his recovery before making a final decision.}

can one of the ed's tell me if he will be a juve player next season or somewhere else???

Freidel very close to joining.

Macca

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

This story is on SS, but could somebody explain to me why we need him, hasn't Pepe said he wants to stay? And surely Freidel does not want to be a reserve keeper when he can be first choice some where else?

MR EM

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Didn't Freidel file for bankruptcy a short while ago? Maybe Liverpool have offered him a few years as back up keeper and then a coaching role? It would be better for him in the long run if indeed he has filed for bankruptcy.

He would be good for Liverpool as we could sell Jones for £1-2million, have a good keeper sitting on the bench & then in 2-3 years we'd have a good goal keeper coach while one of the young lads will be ready to jump into the number 2 position.

That would be my guess on why we're looking at Freidel & why Freidel is looking at us.

-Shane.

Ashley Young is also unlikely to sign as he says he wants to win trophies.

Lets be honest all these stories about us spending 'big' have no foundation people forget the money we spent in Jan was largely dus to sales oh and on the subject the 35m spent on Carrol is starting to look far far too much for a player who can miss whith a header from 3 yards out

So who will we sign . .likelyhood it will be

. . . . no idea lets wait and see

Hi ed does the europa go to 6 place now that they have done the fairplay rules {Ed001's Note - no, as has been repeatedly pointed out, it goes to 5th in the league. The extra place goes to the highest team in the fairplay league who doesn't already have European football.}

Hi everyone! These are my views on how LFC should do the job in the transfer market if they have that believed to be Big transfer kitty!

I think Carrol will be 35M worth of s**tt, if we didn't buy
at least three quality wingers who can cross the ball well in to the box. My choices are Young, Payet & Jarvis.= 34M

For CB i think we should go for Jan Vertonghen of Ajax.
Around 15M would be enough for him! Much better than Cahill & much cheaper than Sahko. Jones little bit young, we have Danny Wilson ( who will perform as well as him if he is in the Blackburn Team)

We need a left back who must be excellent in going forward & defending! Aly Cissokho 15M

For center midfielder i think Charlie Adam would perfectly fit! 6M . McCarthy too young & Sissoko little bit expensive as CM is not a position where we really have to spend big + we have the likes of Shelvey & Spearing.

BY: Someone who Loves LFC, who want to see them win every day!

PLz EDs! I would be very very thankful if you can post this on your excellent site. YNWA JFT96

People are wondering why we are suppsedly targeting friedel. the only plausible explanation is that he will join on a pay as you play contract as a under-study to reina, whilst completing coaching badges with a view to joining the coaching staff at melwood. that's the only way i can justify friedel joining the club, if so i think this will be a good move for the club and brad.

Just read an interesting article relating to the Aquilani deal with Juventus.

It suggests that we really need to find a resolution to this as soon as possible. As it stands, we have the agreement with Juve in place, but - if they try to play hardball - we could be left waiting on other transfers.

Aquaman is currently on about 100,000 per week at Anfield, so it'd be a real problem if he were to return. We need to free up some funds to go after some of the players that we're chasing (which, regardless of who you believe is on the list, we know other teams will certainly look to steal a march on us). There's also a quote from an 'insider' (make of that what you will):

Aquilani is a talented player but as far as we are concerned he does not fit into the project at the club. It's going to be a busy transfer window, with at least four or five players coming in, and issues concerning transfer budget, squad size and wages all come into it especially with FFP about to come into play.

I'm hopeful that we can make some new signings as quickly as possible. If we can make some kind of deal with Juve (or any other interested parties), then it can only help. I like Aquaman, he's a very good player and seems an honest and decent man, but we definitely need to shed some of higher earners in order to kick on. It begs the question: how long will we be left with the likes of Poulsen and Cole?

If we get Marin or Mata, both names I have heard recently, then we will have an excellent chance of pushing on in the league, both are of a very high quality, young and potential to be world beaters.
If we were to get one of them, along with just one CM (Young), then I believe we could push on for the league.
Bonus signings would include a ST, LB and a 2nd Winger.

All we can do is wait, transfer window is not far off now.

With Jose Enrique looking more likely to stay at Newcastle, Dalglish and Comolli have identified Aly Cissokho as our new left back. He would cost the same as Enrique at 12-14m, but the Frenchman's experience in the Champions League and the National Team are what we are looking for. As for a centre back, our attentions have suddenly turned to Jan Vertonghen. The Belgian has received rave reviews following his performances for Ajax. He also comes from the renowned Germinal Beer academy in Belgium, where many Belgian stars have developed. His close friendship with Suarez from his Ajax days could give us an advantage in the race for his signature, as Arsenal are keen on him too. He would cost in the range of 9-12m.

And Vertonghens friendship with Thomas Vermaelen couldn't help Arsenal?

Ed, it has been rumoured (ss) that stiker Antonio Pedroza Whitham is in talks with an english club, believed to be Fulham. Any info on this lad? He's caught the eye of the FA but has sworn his allegiance to Mexico.

Someone I havent herad about but sounds like a promising talent at 20yr old.

Cheers

(The rumour I posted the other night regarding the decision on Kenny and the stadium to be announced at the Spuds came evidently hasnt happened, yet whispers Architects were in attendance the other day I read to an earlier post. My source may be in the know about something after all. . . .

{Ed002's Note - I don't know anything of the lad at all. As for the stadium, regardless of what is announced, planning permission will be required so everything will then be in the public domain.}

ED, any thoughts on the possibility of signing Brad Friedel? Surely he would only come and play second fiddle to Pepe as he has recently said he is going to stay. In my opinion, Friedel is still in the top 5 keepers in the premier league even at 39 and if we do get into the Europa league, he would be a fantastic keeper to have during the tournament but not sure if he would come knowing he won't get that much playing time. {Ed002's Note - He is getting toward the tail end of his career - perhaps some coaching opportunities coming up?}

I am very sad. The odds are against Liverpool qualifying for Europe.
Tottenham have to draw or lose against a poor Birmingham.
Liverpool must beat an improving Aston Villa away.
When was the last time Liverpool did not qualify for Europe ?
THIS SEASON - Thankfully Portsmouth weren't able to get a license otherwise Liverpool would have missed out! ! !

Being well informed of italian football I can tell you the package offered to aguero is well below what they are looking for, my sources say he is also unconvinced that juve can challenge for honours. Only italian club he is interested in is milan, who have shown no interest.

I have to say i was very disappointed with the result yesterday. I haven't had time to watch as i was at work and the only snippet i've seen is the penalty.

With the result from Fulham, Dalglish signing his contract, the owners winging their way in, on a crest of a wave, last home game of the season, destiny for europe in our hands, Spuds on the crest of a slump, all the signs were there to take Spurs to the cleaners.

So reading the reports and Dalglish saying 'we just didn't start for the first 25 mins' is a little bemusing. I would have expected us to have dominated far more than we appeared to do so.

However one result shouldn't start our now infamous knee jerk reactions that are becoming pretty familiar on these pages. (I'm gonna scroll down for some 'sack kenny now' posts!)

But one thing i want to say. I've had my suspicions about Howard Webb for several years. At the time many thought he was the 'new' bees knees, and why the Premier League have this notion of picking just one ref to do all the 'big' games is beyond me.

Whenever a referee has the opportunity to ref united games more and more, you find over a period of time, their decision making becomes more and more questionable as Fergie and Co put more and more pressure on them.

Subconsciously this has had an effect on Webb. Whether he knows it or not is the debate. The biggest, single piece of criticism you can direct at a ref is to ask him whether he is cheating or really that bad.

I'm not for one second saying that Webb cheats. He is, however, showing more and more evidence of being coerced into decisions and therefore by definition his decision making is now showing clear evidence of bias.

The irony of his performance last week between manure and chelsea was not lost. Because this was the first time he had reffed manure since the 3rd round cup game against us (i don't really need to go through the amount of biased decisions in that game and/ or the league game do i?) he went overboard and gave Chelsea the majority of the decisions in a clear attempt to prove his integrity and repel the public persona of bias he has towards manure.

Because the majority of the 'stick' Webb has received has originated from Liverpool fans (Babel's twitter pic etc.) I'm wondering whether there is a thought in his head he harbours some amount of ill feeling toward our club. Certainly a strange time to release 'news' that Webb sang 'you'll never walk alone' baloney in an attempt to make him look favourable towards LFC.

The penalty decision was scandalous for many reasons. He was in an excellent position but the time it took to get his whistle in his mouth was just too quick for my liking. It was like he was waiting for it to happen. This is either extremely bad refereeing that you would not expect from 'one of the best' or he was biased.

He is a poor referee, making a lot of poor decisions. His cast iron (phoney) cover of being one of the best in the business has been well and truly exposed.
Not saying that Webb cost us the match but he certainly turned the result. Not for the first or last time either.

Pity he didn't get awarded the OBE, as Fergie would rightfully brag he got that through Other Buggers Efforts. Talking of Fergie, all it would take to confirm my theory about Webb would be if he came out in a pre match press conference and said 'he is the best ref'.

I rest my case.

Ed do you think it will be a bad thing if Liverpool don't get fifth spot as we can concentrate on the league next season.

{Ed002's Note - Different Eds have different opinions. Some see not getting fifth as a way of putting the focus on teh league. For me the Europa Cup is not a bad thing at all - except for the Thursday night games.}

16 May 2011 13:13:10
All this europa league talk is annoying can't people just wait till the end of the week and see what happens.

Ed does liverpool have any interest in lorente? Have we made any contact? I think 30mil should be enough to get him. {Ed001's Note - we bid for him in the summer but had a bid in excess of 30m rejected. There is very little chance of getting him now for less.}

16 May 2011 13:06:34
IMO all our focus, effort n energy needs to be geared around a top 4 finnish & winning a domestic cup, playing thur & sun would impact on that no doubt.

Playing youngsters further devalues the Europa cup & tarnishes our tradition in Europe, if we r in it we should b all out 2 win it.

I don't think it will impact too much with buying players & if they only wanna come 4 that reason & not on wot we r trying 2 build they r not worth having.

But I kno on this there is a 50/ 50 divide.

It was the result, rather than the Europa Cup aspect, which was the most disappointing part about yesterday. The game showed the lack of squad depth and demonstrated to us all that getting into the top three (yes top three) next season, which I regard as our priority, will be tough.
Kenny will have cash and 'hopefully' spend it wisely (despite some of the more fanciful suggestions on this site) the signings will probably be more conservative on the whole with premier league experience plus one *star* signing.
Finishing sixth is progress from last season. Kenny will have most of the players back for our first full pre-season for two years which is vitally important after the Europa Cup early rounds nonsense of last year.
F**k all this talk of perches etc that record has gone let's show dignity, congratulate the winners and do what we do best, concentrate on our achievements and look forward to our first season without the 'burden' of history so we can start making history again.

{Ed002's Note - I guess I do. Please read the earlier posts where I have explained who will be in teh Europa League next season.}

Upto now the place is going to fulham if they become red/ yellow card happy in next game Blackpool are behind them 4 the place.

Listen it's simple if we wanted a Europa league place and deserve a place, then we should of beat spurs. they have more points now and it was in our hands to have stopped that yesterday but we didn't. As far as it being a blessing is a matter of divide and I guess tome will tell. As far as attracting players is concerned, do we really want players that were only coming to play in Europe, surely if that is the case they would be opting for champions league clubs anyway. The players that we want and need are the ones that are joining because they want to join Liverpool and are looking at the bigger picture, the progression and ambitions of the club, hopefully any new player that arrives will gave similar ambitions and will give there helping the club go forward.

16 May 2011 12:15:32
TBH Europa League is a distraction, I'd only want to qualify if we fielded 11 youngsters to see what they've got.

Spuds, however are unlucky, they're in Europa league regardless, even if they come 6th they're top of the fair play league and will be entered into the competition. If Spuds make 5th then Fulham currently sit 2nd in the fair play league followed by Blackpool.

Gaz YNWA.

16 May 2011 12:01:38
So some of your posters are quit prepared to miss out on european football next season, you should be testing your new squad at this level and looking forward to it, your poor start to the season has cost next seasons squad an opertunity to compete at a higher level, and I believe its a competition you could well win, so until the season is over keep the dream alive.

16 May 2011 11:48:32
We have had a gr8 run under KK from jan & not let yest result take gloss of a superb recovery. However, we knew the problems with the squad & with current injuries our only real options off the bench are Shelvey & Cole 2.

Yest showed we are nowhere near where we need 2 b & summer signings will b crutial, IMO it also showed we need attacking options (wingers, striker).

It mite sound obvious but we need another quality forward, rem the season berbatov had a great start, then had loss of form + injuries they brought Hernandez in.

16 May 2011 11:46:16
To all those saying the eds are wrong and 6th place get a spot in europa too, how about instead of just reading the headline on ssn you actually click the story and read the whole thing. Which will explain that whoever leads the fair play table gets the spot which is currently spurs. However if they get 5th then the extra spot will go to whoever is second in the fair play table (fulham).

{Ed002's Note - It transpires that Sky fouled up and got it wrong earlier. The situation is clear and as I have previously stated.}

16 May 2011 11:37:26
If we don't make it to 5th and a European place, Fulham will get it if Spurs hold onto 5th, would this affect the quality of players that will come in? I wonder if players would prefer to play for a team in a European competition. {Ed002's Note - Not appreciably.}

16 May 2011 11:20:25
Ed, I think if we don't get the Europa League place this season its not the end of the world, not being in Europe may sway some transfer targets but next season we won't have to play Europa League games on Thursday to disrupt us in the league. I think we could have a real crack at the league and Champions League spot for next season. Being without it gives us a bit of an advantage over teams playing European football. . Champions League is where we want to be, there's not alot of money in the Europa League compared to Champions League. What's your take on it Ed?

{Ed002's Note - The advantages of being in are profile and, say, £10M. That is pretty much it.}

sky did actually say the place will go the sixth place in the premier league(liverpool) but the ed is correct .sky have since tweaked their story indicating its spurs or blackpool who are favourites if spurs end up in 5th place

{Ed002's Note - I had not realised Sky had gotten it wrong, so just to re-iterate. The only way for Liverpool to get in to the Europa League is to for the club to get a better result at Aston Villa than Spurs do at home to Birmingham. The 2011-2012 EPL Europa League places are assigned, for this season, as follows:

League Cup Winners: Birmingham City
FA Cup Runners Up: Stoke City
Fifth in EPL: Liverpool or Tottenham
Fair Play League: Tottenham (if Liverpool manages to get to fifth place), Fulham or possibly Blackpool depending on the outcome of the Fair Play League.

The Fair League Place goes to the highest placed team in the FPL not already qualified for Europe, so it will be if Spurs (if Liverpool manages to get to fifth place), Fulham (which is most likely) or just possibly Blackpool (very unlikely).}

Official statement about the additional European place

"Uefa have confirmed that England have been awarded an extra Europa League place.

England, Norway and Sweden topped Uefa's Respect Fair Play rankings, meaning all three nations benefited from an extra place in European competition.

The top side from the Premier League's own Fair Play league, who have not already qualified for Europe, will now be handed the place.

The Fair Play League is not just yellow and red cards, which do form a part of it - but each side is also ranked on Positive Play, Respect Towards Opponent, Respect Towards Referee and Behaviour of Officials.

At the moment Spurs top this league, with Fulham and Blackpool also in close contention.

But as it stands Mark Hughes' side would be the beneficiaries as Tottenham would already qualify for the Europa League from finishing in fifth"

{Ed002's Note - So what, you did not believe me?}

Yesterday did not show our greatest qualities it has to be said we lacked any real creativity we missed raul he has been the difference in alot of games this season.
but it was always gonna be an uphill struggle when the officials are giving penalties for tackles outside the area which in all fairness wasn't that bad a challenge 50/ 50 in normal matches so if howard web is the best ref in this country we are in real trouble but we should have all expected it when we saw who was ref

I have stopped rating Howard Webb as an official since the De Jong challenge in the WC 2010 final.

He is just confirming my belief since then.

Well, thanks for the 6 points this season my little scouse friends. What happened to the battering you were going to give us as loads of you posted on the Spurs site earlier this week? This should at least stop the amazingly deluded Bale to Liverpool stories some of you have been hatching lately. Dunno if we did go in for Carroll in January (but doubt it) as his contribution was an embarrassingly bad header glad you shelled out 35m for him! Tara, will send you postcards from Europe.

He was still not 100% fit.
You should have seen him against ManCity at Anfield.

Skysports are running this as a headline

'Uefa have confirmed England will have an extra place in the Europa League next season'

But no more details as yet. So Ed are we in the Euorpa league?

RedDan

{Ed002's Note - No this is simply UEFA confirming the already known Fair Play League place.

The Fair League Place goes to the highest placed team in the FPL not already qualified for Europe, so it will be if Liverpool manages to get to fifth place), Fulham or just possibly Blackpool.}

Morning All,

just seen on SSN that UEFA have granted England an extra Europa league spot.

Spurs currently top the fair play league as well as being 5th. So I think 6th will now be good enough for Europe?

Anyone think differently interpret the rules differently ?

Cheers

James

My attitude towards this Europa is that, I'd be more relieved if we didn't get it than be thrilled if we do get.
For LFC, it's a win-win situation: if we get it, fine, a shot at a trophy and some dosh. If we don't get it, it's a burden lessened. We'll channel our resources into the Prem and the two domestic comps.
Everybody will get a chance to play.

I don't buy into this "without Euro football we'll likely not get the cream of the crop" assertions.
Players don't sign one year contracts.
It's about the future, the teams ability to compete and succeed in the long term (precisely the reason why Spurs would've struggled to attract class acts last summer and January).

Liverpool, like the cheapskates Juve, haven't been competing well in the short term. But both of these teams are building the capacity to do so in the long run.
I know players aren't your most smartest professionals, but they aren't t**ts either.
They'll know that there are flukes, one-season-wonders like Spurs, and real deals like us and Juve, who've had a bit of blips but are well on their way back up.

That's why I believe the CL, let alone the dreadful Europa, essentially won't have an impact as far as our targets are concerned.
We can lose out on Europe but go on to win the league next season. Potential targets would know that.
So for me, whilst the CL would help sweeten things, it isn't a deciding factor. Long term competitive capacity is. . and tha's exactly what we building, having started already with Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Liverpool will certainly compete this summer. The extent to which the owners are willing to spend isn't known. Of course, I wouldn't expect us to spend big just for the sake of it.
If a player is bought for £40m, that would be because it was the right thing to do.
But we'll compete, folks.
The owners want the title as soon possible and they know what needs to be done to see to that.

Anyone who says we'll not spend higher than £50m, or we'll spend £100m, is obviously talking carp. No one knows the what the extent of Liverpool's spending will be.
Just sit tight and watch the summer unfold, you defo WON'T be disappointed.

Spurs do not want konchesky that is utter garbage, they had him on loan a few seasons ago and could not get him back to his psrent club quick enough!

I am very sad. The odds are against Liverpool qualifying for Europe.Tottenham have to draw or lose against a poor Birmingham.Liverpool must beat an improving Aston Villa away.

When was the last time Liverpool did not qualify for Europe ?

THIS SEASON! ! ! Portsmouth should have played but didn't/ couldn't get a license.
What is ridiculous is that Birmingham City, Stoke City and Fulham will be playing European football and Liverpool most probably won't! ! ! Birmingham are desperate for points, Villa aren't so we might still have a chance.

Whilst I do understand that some targets may choose other clubs due to European football, I am not bothered by it at all. To be honest, I would rather we find some talent that wants to play for Liverpool FC whether in the league, Europe or wherever. If players are only choosing us because of European football, they are not the right players - I would rather a hungry and passionate player (describing Suarez) who just wants to play and win with LFC no matter what the game is or who it is against.

Hi ed it's glaringly obvious from todays show that we need a quality winger or two. Carroll didn't perform because he simply didn't have the service. We kept going for that long ball instead of that nifty pass and move we've seen over the last few weeks. From about the 10th min you could see we were in trouble when Suarez was playing for fouls (though his pace on the turn definately caused those defenders to foul on a few occasions) and we resorted to that long ball rubbish that we saw a lot with Roy. Very much a roy performance today and our midfield were completely shown up. Maxi showed nothing and where was Lucas when we needed some stability?? So disappointing to see us slip back into that long ball style of play. It just doesn't work

We finished higher than last season, Kenny is back where he belongs and we have new owners who have cleared our crippling debt. This to me a brilliant starting point for the new season. We will be chasing the players that Kenny knows will place us back on the top of the tree. No longer signing unheard of players on Bosman's and bigging them up as the Holy Grail. We need a couple of quality players who will be instilled with pass and move. You'll see what we mean next season when we have a little bit of width to our play. We are now playing as a unit no longer a handful of players carrying the rest. We are Liverpool FC! YNWA

Roll on August!

Sir Alex Ferguson is the best British manager there has ever been.

And coming from my mouth, that is saying something because of the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool.

Bob Paisley was the best I played under at Liverpool and when he took over people said he wouldn t last long, couldn t repeat Bill Shankly s success and yet Paisley went onto become even more successful.

Great managers like Paisley and Shankly seemed to have made Liverpool s history untouchable. Overtaking Liverpool s incredible haul of titles seemed a long, long way off when Fergie took over at Old Trafford nearly 25 years ago.

But it has been a remarkable achievement to reach 19 titles, establish United as the most successful club in English football history and they can still finish the season as Double winners by lifting the Champions League trophy.

Could the likes of Shankly or Paisley manage these days as Fergie has done? It s hard to know and hard to be certain in these difficult times when players are multi-millionaires and are even harder to motivate.

But Ferguson has not shied away from difficulties, he s built four if not five great United teams, handled big names like Cantona, Beckham, Ronaldo, Rooney and this season has only proved once again just what a great manager he is.

People were questioning whether United had the players or the talent. Tevez and Ronaldo had gone. But Ferguson knew what was coming through as he saw it every day on the pitch.

Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling are bright talents for the future. Hernandez has blown people away this season and has been one of the best buys of recent seasons.

Ferguson also handled the fall-out from Rooney and him demanding to leave Old Trafford. A few years back, Ferguson might have blown a fuse, sold him and be done with it.

Instead, Ferguson held a master class in his press conference, was calm and, within days, Rooney was pledging his future and doing one of the most spectacular U-turns in football history.

That is typical Ferguson. If you look at other clubs, you hear whispers of discontent, players moaning. But you don t get that at United. Even Michael Owen, who has been a bit part player, has never moaned or said anything.

That says much about the respect that the players have for Ferguson and why he continues to get great results and performances from his squad.

Ferguson has been able to call on key players like Antonio Valencia and Ji Sung Park in the final third and they have come to the fore. That has been crucial.

But United do need to rebuild this season. Edwin van der Sar was the keeper that United should have bought 15 years ago. He s world class and will take some replacing once he retires.

They shouldn t be looking at David de Gea. Great prospect but 20. He ll be making his mistakes and learning in the first team. A proven keeper like Manuel Neuer (although he seems bound for Bayern Munich) would be better.

Old father time is catching up with Paul Scholes. He will need replacing. To do that, you need the quality of Wesley Sneijder or Luka Modric would be brilliant replacements. If someone throws money at Dimitar Berbatov then maybe he should be replaced.

It s that sort of challenge which will drive Feguson on. To make United better. Furthermore, Ferguson has said many times that his father retired from the shipyards and died shortly afterwards. What would he do without football?

But more than that, Ferguson now knows that he faces new challenges - and that will only succeed in making him carry on to be even more successful.

Manchester City used to buy B List stars. Now they are going for the A List superstars because they re in the Champions League.

Chelsea will have money to spend. Arsenal are consistent challengers. Liverpool, still just behind United, will look to go again under Kenny Dalglish.

Just checked Skybet and Aguero is 5/ 1 Fav to join us as reported earlier.

However, Interestingly Owen is 2/ 1 Fav to sign for Brighton.

Now, I'm guessing neither of these will happen.

I just checked that and can confirm that, which is very interesting, considering I don't think we have a chance in heaven. Ashley Young is also 2/ 5 to join us

'I can ask for the stars - but I can't promise the moon'. I have been campaigning that we need better quality players. .but at the level we are right now, I reluctantly accept that we can only look at squad players (Adam, Jarvis, McCarthy etc) to replace squad players (Jova, Ngog, Poosen, Konch). What more can we say about challenging for the title if we can't even finish above a weakened spuds team? - SingRed

Ed001 do you think that with us probably not getting European football, that it could be a factor in trying to sign our targets? And would you prefer us to be in the Europa League or put all our energy into our dosmetic goals and going for the top 4 and FA cup, without the distraction of the Europa League.

Blair Mayne YNWA {Ed001's Note - I would prefer to be in with a chance of more trophies for the cabinet and yes it will have some effect on the chances of attracting signings. Luckily we are a big enough name and on enough of a upturn in fortunes that we should still be able to convince top quality players to join.}
