Why are we not buying Diame? 3.5m buy out clause class act!
Also we should go for Lescott at Man C, 4m gets him!
Come my beautiful reds let's challengefrom the start of the season!

Redman 10

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lescott is very left sided and would not compliment Agger very well in my opinion. For that reason, among many others, I believe we will go for a right footed cb, someone pretty vocal. I can also see a talented youngster being brought in to provide competition along with Martin Kelly. I can see skrtel and Coates both departing.

I also think we will purchase a left back to compete with Enrique and Robinson in depth. Right back will be Glen Johnson, Kelly & Wisdom.

Just my opinion though :)

SideShowBob

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is everyone obsessed with lescott? He is not very good. Skrtel is much better than him!

Red Lee

Agree0 Disagree0

His buyout clause is not 3.5 million it is in excess of double that.

If we had studge and cou from the start of the season i'd say we'd be 5th right now so if we add to that this window I expect us to have a good season especially as we have no europe matches in the way

A Liverpool fan living in the present looking to the future not clinging on to the past

Believable0 Unbelievable0

1st is 1st, everythng else is nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good to see people looking forwards!
It drives me mad with all the Rafa-bators who just can't let go. Don't get me wrong I love Rafa, he's a good manager and was a good Liverpool manager and I've met him and he's a class act, lovely guy but he's a FORMER Liverpool manager, the past.
We have a manager now, in the present and future called Brendan Rodgers who I think is doing a pretty good job at the moment and is only going to get better, when you think its his 1st season, for half a season he had half a team of kids and mostly 1 striker and still:
- We're 1 place higher than we were last season.
- More points.
- Scored more league goals than any other Liverpool team for 18 years.
- 3rd best defence in the league.
- Created more chances than anyone else in the league. 145 more than Man Utd.
- Have the youngest squad in the league with an average age of 23. 2 years.
The footballs been great, esspecially since new year and getting better and with 3 or 4 good additions in the summer we could really push on, the consistancy will come. Even the younger players will be 1 year older, the manager more settled with his first year out the way. Everyone more confident and experienced.
Yes Rafa was great and the Champions league record was great and I thank him for that but it's gone now, the past, it all is.
Lets get behind the manager and the team and let this generation achieve greatness, look forward to Rodgers smashing Rafas record! Create his history. Because if we all get together it will happen!
Come on redmen!

Good posts. We are without Suarez though for the first 6 games and that will hurt. If Lucas can stay fit that would be a positive too. I think that if we had some real leadership in the team it may help especially now carra is gone and it could stop our heads going down like Villa at home. Would love a player in the same mould as Kompany, Terry or Sami in his day

Can ed 001 or a Liverpool supporting ed answer this please, can you list what players you personally think we will sign and a short list of the ones that will leave please

Cheers

Des {Ed023's Note - I would like us to bring in Alex Sandro, Arda Turan, Toby Alderweiereld and Diame. I think Flanagan, Carroll, Skrtel, Coates and Spering may all leave and possibly more}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can't believe so many people are buying into this toby alderweireld when so many clubs have lost interest and now its a shame that he is lording every club that has a sniff

Agree0 Disagree0

Good shout Ed023 - if we can snare Diame for the 7-7.5 million clause that allows him to move I think it could work in our favour as it would give West Ham additional funds to possibly complete the Carroll deal. I think a £15 million deal for Carroll and Spearing would suit both parties personally.

We are signing Papadopoulos

Cheers

I believe this isn't true, since the 02 was built by a british designer.

Eds and reds,
1) Do you know the positions Liverpool will look to strengthen?
2) Do you know the players Liverpool are targeting in those positions?

I know you can't say one target will definitely come, but if you could offer a list of likely candidates (instead of us just asking about every player we're linked with on twitter). {Ed023's Note - All these have been answered. Defence is the main priority. The club are scouting loads of players, it'll be hard to give you a list, it isn't worth the agro mate}

I am so sick of seeing other clubs win trophies and not us, but I believe with the current squad we can be up there next year and challenge for the title, with sturridge and coutinho we have possibly the best attack in the league, a very strong defence and the legend that is reina in goal and when he's on form he's the best. BR is the man to get us up there and he's one of the best young managers in the world and can do a fergie. no wonder city want him eh. let's keep the faith everyone and bring the sleeping giant back to glory. eds what you think our chances of torres back are?

YNWA Red dream

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There's a reason why you have called yourself red dream, do keep dreaming Sam red

Agree0 Disagree0

There is absolutely nothing wrong with dreaming, lad. The players need to believe in themselves more and with a bit more luck we should be a lot closer next season. We do need a top centre back, one who can play a high line. But keep dreaming kidder.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's the right attitude to have, I believe with a few more quality additions over the summer we will be competing and back where we belong.

I really do think people don't realise how we'll we could potentially do, I also don't think people realise how amazing and significant Sturbridge and continuo are.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would you want Torres back?

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres scored 20 goals this season

Who would not want a 20 goal a season striker?

Agree0 Disagree0

Erm we won a trophy last season and got to the final of another.

Think of the resource Citeh have had and what have they won this season!

As for Torres the main difference for him has been Paco de Miguel getting him properly fit, if he leaves Chelski he will need another Paco!

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres only scored 8 goals in the league who WOULD want that? most of his goals came in europe and that's only because he was getting games because ba was cup tied

i bet that with Carroll being recalled to the England squad for the upcoming friendlies that everyone is going to pop out the woodwork calling for him to return. I think he could be a decent option for us but feel he doesn't have the technique required to play in the possession/tiki taka style we are trying to adopt. anything over 15 and we should sell and get his 90K/week+ wages off the books.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

If he found out his lost long uncle was called bob carrollinho from brazil which entitled him to play for brazil and he by some miracle got called up to represent them and picked ahead of damiao in the starting 11 i'd still wouldn't want him.

Good player but if he's fee gets us a top class cb then that makes more sense, goodluck to him he just didn't work hard enough

Agree0 Disagree0

I just don't want to let him go on the cheap. He's still worth 17 million and when he's fit and firing, he his a real handful. I would rather keep him than let Cashley have him for 10 million.

Assaidi
And possibly downing {Ed023's Note - Maybe, I don't know BR personally, sorry}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What's the news on Kevin Gamerio? And if any Carroll gets sold, will the money raised be enough to tempt the likes of erriksen, illic and alderwiled? I know it's a case of one or the other

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 May 2013 17:16:30
Just putting together what I read and trying to make some sense at least

£20mill +assaidi for eriksen and alderweirald
£4mill for illori the youngster
£17mill for papadopolous
£8mill for digne
£?mill for mertens or tello

could be £65mill altogether

£17mill for caroll
£12mill for skrtel
£5mill for coates

Total=£34
Net spend=£31 not bad and similar to last seasons summer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alderweireld is a poor signing

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with everything here, but no Alderweirald, or Mertens and we should pick up Cornelius as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alderweireld will not move to sit on the bench, the rest I agree with i'd prefer Mertens, and we should buy the young Reading keeper as understudy to Reina as he is a good keeper and could perhaps replace Reina next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alderwiereld is a great defender and is used to wining with Ajax also plays for the shirt. I can see him as the next agger by his recent quotes and ability.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think u guys understand, we need to sell to buy! we have 20m plus player sales, if the papadopolous rumers are true then he's gunna cost that 20m, eriksen would cost the same, martens would cost 10-15m, digne 8-10, you really think we have that kinda money? I dont!

Summer
Ins
Callum McManaman 5m
James McCarthy 8m
Xabi Alonso 10m
Luke Shaw 10m

Martin Skrtel 10m
Ousamma Assadi 3m
Lucas 10m

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Selling Lucas

That would be heretical if there's such a word

Agree0 Disagree0

Weird

Agree0 Disagree0

Xabi has already come out and said he's staying at Real for another season. I can definitely see him joining in 2014/2015 on a free granted he keeps himself fit and in decent form.

Agree0 Disagree0

You mental?

Agree0 Disagree0

So you don't think that we're going to buy at least ONE central defender?!
McManaman
McCarthy
Alonso
Shaw
will not be the four players we buy this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your prices are way off, McCarthy & Shaw won't be sold for anything less than £15M, Alonso will stay at Madrid & McManaman ain't good enough we already have Downing. Lucas will never be sold it's crazy just thinking of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Which bit of Luke Shaw? Is it the same bit as Chelsea and Arsenal think they could get?

For any of you, if he was for sale you would only get a small piece for £10m. As he has said himself he is not moving, and the club has said the same, just forget it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Luke Shaw will be a chelsea player not next season but the season after, replacement for ashley cole, its so easy to see, he's a massive chelsea fan and chelsea want him. Get ready for him to be a chelsea player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas? What's he done now?
Or have I hit a time-warp and gone back to "Lucas out" times.

we need 2 cb to come in carra retiring cuates not up to standard and skrtl is br plans just for a decent fee to come in. kelly has been injured and was never a starter and wisdom is not ready to play in the center yet. we need another midfielder and a winger. suso/shelvey are not ready yet. players like flanagan/robinson/coady will have a carreer but not at lfc. next in line with real qualities and that have a chance to make it are ibe/mclaughlin followed by some younger players like sinclair. we need to buy 4 starters and have a strong bench. youth should not be pushed too early see what happened to sterling. ajax have the best youth system in the world when the score allows a youngster to come on they give them 10/20 min max. that's how they grow. we want to start playing them at 0-0 and pressure, just look in the past players like van basten got 4 starts and 21 from the bench at the age of 18 and he played in a good team and was talented still ajax took there time with him. we will waste players like sterling/suso ect ect when we play them too often they need time and the last thing they need at 17/18 is that they made it. we need to sell players like cuates/assaidi and proberly skrtl and get starters for them. then we can start bringing on a youth player the last 15min when the score allows us and they can get convedance because they have no pressure. + a winning team will carry a young player. malta

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kelly should be Carra's replacement with Wisdom as his back up, which means we need 1 defender. Shelvey & Suso need regular football to get the best from them.

Lescott was part of a centre back paring that won the league last season leaking very few goals, he's been left out this season which is ridiculous and look what has happened, he's a good player any team would benefit from having him part of it, agger gets exposed a lot, I would say lescott is better personaly.

Hi Eds, doing a great job, as usual.

I can't believe so many fans have already written off Carroll, Skirtle and Assaidi to name a few.
IMO, selling Carroll is a mistake, he offers another 'powerful' option other than crossing balls for the three midgets (no disrespect intended) we have at the moment! Carroll scores goals if given the ammunition! Assaidi has not been given a proper chance and how come skittle is suddenly not up to the job?
Also, we don't need a 4th striker, we have Yesil and Morgan! We must give them a chance otherwise it makes no sense buying or keeping them in reserves. An attacking midfielder, a right winger and we are done! I hope Mr Rodgers is up to the job, as 4th place will not do, we need to challenge! Also, caution to the wind in games we are drawing. we must GO FOR IT like (it hurts me to say it) the Mancs and try to WIN matches. Our 0-0 draws cost us 4th Spot, go back and work it out, it's frustrating.
Have a good summer everyone and remember. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And how many headers did Carroll win for us last year?

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually most of our players are over 6 foot tall

If we wanted a player like carroll then i'd want aomeone like benteke who has actual quality with his feet and head not jist jump and head ot anywhere carroll is simply not good enough

Agree0 Disagree0

Who's the 3 midgets?

Ok Coutinho is 5ft8 but Suarez is 5ft11-6ft and Sturridge is 6ft2! Even Borini's 5'11, Downing 6ft.

just watched, the premier league preview, and there was a seg. on spurs. And I just want to take it as example, that the way spurs-fans-avb stand,

first of all there is no two thoughts that spurs have a bigger and better squad, plus the form of bale. And the have nauched up to 5th (hope so), say 10 pts ahead of us. And that all have been parising them. Avb. Fans are all happy.

Compaird to that where stand, in my openion are we that bad? Just 10 pts off them, and I know 10 pts are not less. They r massive. But so was the position of spurs/arsenal and us. System-squad and all other things we were behind them. And what br has achived is good and positive if not best.
And we are catching up.
For me that is a good 1st season.

But why is the atmosphere is pept up there and ours is not. There doesn't seem any positiveness around us sply fans who still pop up names like kenny and rafa who are part of history. Why br is backed like avb is?. The way avb has been made to look like, br hasnt.? Even though br was up for a tougher test.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 May 2013 15:43:34
WHAT?

Waro

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs are challenging for Champions League, we are not.

If the league positions were reversed, AVB would not be getting the support Brendan is, he would be demonised.

Agree0 Disagree0

AVB took over a top 4 team they are now likely to be 5th. BR took over a 8th team now 7th with a lot more points then last year.

Err what you sayin?

London red

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm saying that if the league positions were reversed, and we had a chance if finishing in the top 4 instead of guaranteed 7th, Brendan would be getting at least the same support AVB is getting and AVB would be facing the same apathy as Brendan is getting.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pls try to UNDERSTAND the point.

Statistically spurs loosing a position and we are winning one.

And to thd guy saying if positions are to be reverced, well had we not handed them clint dempsay it could have happen really. As we have gone without 2nd striker for nearly half season.

What the point is there is just 2 position between us and them 5-7. All in all the same as long as its not top 4.
But even then, br is getting a stick, been asked questions. And there are fants who dare to ask for sacking. But avb who has lost a position has been enjoying a far better support. From fans and media. So the actual question is aren't we being a bit tough or say harsh on br?

Dont show me the positions because as a fact, the condition in which we were, we have just gone forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs lost modric, vdv and king! Only king was properly replaced but then they lost kaboul (the french captain) and then sandro! They have more points than last year as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

My brain hurts!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Will you please try and understand the point?

LFC's season is over with one game to play. We've dropped out of the Europa League and we've won nothing despite very significant investment in players.

Spurs have one game left and can either finish in the Europa league (like last season) or in the champions league despite selling a lot of players.

Is it any wonder Brendan is still under scrutiny?

Agree0 Disagree0

Kaboul is not, was not and never will be the French captain. He only has 5 caps

Agree0 Disagree0

Despite selling lot of playes? Or deadwood? And bringing in. Vergoton (i know I spelt it wrong. ) adabiyor, holtby, dempsay. for top class players
Look i'm not doing the direct comparison. As even after the selling they had a better squad. What I wan to say is the work done. In my terms. Br faced tougher test, to change everything from squad to systym. And in that sense br had done more work than avb.

We managed europa last time because of league cup. As standing wise we were 8th, a place down.

And we are just 2 positions bellow them. And europa miss doesn't make much difference if spurs come 2nd. As if you look at it all the squads finished above us are better than us. We tried hard in difficult situation and just missed 6th place.
I think br has taken us forward. And if not praised like avb. Atleast doesn't deserve a stick.

Agree0 Disagree0

And again,
to answer your questions,

we were in europa just because we won the cup. And not due to standings. On which we have improved.
We won nothing, despite significant investment?
What investment, we Were without a 2nd striker for nearly half season, as our owners thought spending 6-7 miln on dempsay was too much. Other than that, 4 new 1st team players (allan, borin, sturedge, coutinho) out of them 1 injured for whole season, 2 arived at jan. (there is an artical abt how we would have been 4th jus 2 pts of chelsea if league started at jan. )
we were so short on players we had to play kids like suso, jonjo in a Man United derby. Where was the significant investment?

Still we did good. Its just that it was hard to get the consistancy with kids and late jan signings.

And this is going to be the patern. We don't have a roman or shaikh owner who would just give rodgers 100miln+ to get who ever suitable and get the winning team.
Even next year we are going to just sign 2-3 playes out of 4-5 needed. Close the gap as much as possible and look forward to next.

Agree0 Disagree0

BR has lost LFC getting to two finals like last year and winning one of those finals so why the big hooray for BR?

hi editors few question.

now that carragher is out and expecting Coates to leave as well, do you expect us to go more a high profile experienced defender like Alderwield or Williams if skrtel stays?
I still expect us to sign center back like ILoris and probably use Kelly or Wisdom in a more central position. but we should atleast have 3 experienced defenders. {Ed001's Note - I expect one central defender to arrive, that probably does mean Kelly or Wisdom as cover in there.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At least two players who can play central defence will arrive. An experienced one (probably Williams if BR gets his way) and a younger Agger back-up like Ilori who can be eased in gently. If BR really rated Skrtel he'd be playing. Coates might not attract a decent price so a loan is possible. Personally I'd like Wisdom to go on loan to a PL club and play every week and come back ready to challenge for a start. Wouldn't discount in that scenario someone like Pearce on a free.

Williams & Agger; Pearce & Ilori with Kelly fighting Johnson for the RB shirt.

Remember Brendan talking about character and not always signing big names? That's Williams & Pearce folks.

I'm sure there'll be a moderately sexy signing or two in addition for those who like to bandy such names around.

Do you know if any players have confirmed they will be playing in his testimonial. Cheers eds you do a cracking job on here. {Ed001's Note - he should be fully fit by then, the idea of the op was to get him back in time for preseason training. ". Chelsea have an increasingly proud history. The only difference is their history is happening now, not 25 years ago. Indeed, if the silverware keeps coming at the current rate, in 25 years it will be Blues fans pouring scorn on the lesser achievements of other, less illustrious clubs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No-one scorns Chelsea's lack of acheivement. They scorn the fact that Chelsea have to provide flags for their fans because they won't buy their own. They scorn the millions of Chelsea fans who have 'supported Chelsea their whole life', but were mysteriously absent pre-2004. They scorn the fans who claim to be die hard fans forever but have no idea who Gus Poyet is. They scorn the fans who try and make out like Chelsea have a deep and illustrious history and are not newcomers to the big league of world football.

Of course as time goes on, many of these things will fade - more young people will be born Chelsea fans from their families, their history will become older and older and therefore it's logical that less people will know it in detail etc. But no-one scorns Chelsea's achievements - if they do nothing next year, they'll still have had a fantastic decade.

Oh, and they also scorn Chelsea fans who feel the need to go to other team's fanzones and defend their team from an accusation that no-one leveled.

Hi Eds,

It would seem that we do not have the funds to pay 15 - 20 million pounds for only 1 player.

So far we have been reasonably shrewd in the transfer market and I suspect that will continue.

Andy Carroll to West Ham should pay for a new DM. Skirtel may also transfer out to pay for a new CB. (or vice versa)

BR's transfer budget of possibly 15 - 20 million can then account for a couple of players; maybe another defensive player and 1 other for where he wants to strengthen the team.

BR has spoken about putting some depth in the squad. I agree. We need the ability to put quality players on the pitch from the bench that can change the way we play the game.

BR has been toying with the midfield formation in 2x triangle formats and also using a 5 man midfield utilising the 2 backs as forward running wingers.

We played 3 at the back to start against Fulham which helped push the wing backs into forward positions before transitioning back to our normal formation.

I expect that the club will purchase players that will enable us to use these systems dependant on the style of game we want to play.

The experimentation makes sense given the usual complaint that BR doesn't have a plan 'B'. Maybe that will change next year?

So. With all that said: Who would you bring in who fits the transfer policy and fits the budget? {Ed001's Note - there is no budget, your whole post is nonsense.}

Quick question for the ed's/Macca.

With Utd, City, Bayern, Chelsea etc. all changing managers, will Liverpool see that as an opportunity to tie up any deals before 1st July when the managers will sign? It may take a few weeks for new managers to identify players they want, whereas we will know exactly.

I know that we will be looking at cheaper players but the likes of Popodopolous, Eriksen have all been looked at by these clubs?

Thoughts? {Ed001's Note - all of those clubs have plans in place, in the case of Bayern they are already working to acquire Pep's targets. Chelsea work on a different system, they employ a head coach and he doesn't choose the players. I would think it was better to tie up deals early simply because the players signed get to spend a full preseason with their new team mates.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well since Roman buys the chelsea players and he has not sacked himself yet it won't make any difference to chelsea!

Also united target were known before the Moyes appointment and fergie will oversee united for the next few seasons before Moyes will fly solo on transfers!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh, but you can see what I mean, until the manager is on the training field he will know for definite. You can't say that the directors/owners pick all the players, apart from the obvious ones.

Thanks {Ed001's Note - at times the lad looks sensational, others he looks entirely ordinary. It is very difficult to assess him or give an opinion because of that. In one game he can be reminiscent of Gerrard, in the next he can't pass water. It is a strange one. I wonder if he has growth issues, that can affect balance, etc and cause him to be out of sorts at times. At his best, he could be the bite in midfield we are missing, along with some driving runs forward to force space for the strikers. One thing I am sure of though, he is not a defender, I know he has played there, but he is positionally all at sea as a centre back.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's a defensive player. All I can say is that his favoured position simply requires more experience than an attacking one. One reason is that if he stutters, it stands out.
Think of defensive midfielders/centre halves as the foundation of the team. Without them, nothing can be build with any assurance to it's holding together.
He'll be 21/22 before we see him really play well enough to earn a solid position in the team.
Will the staff be prepared to wait that out? is it too big a risk? who knows.
All I can say is, he'll take quite a number of games to be recognised and I hate to say it. But, a lot of fans will be too quick to judge him.

It's simply too early for us to tell. It's up to one man in the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

As Scouse_Pride says.
Always grateful for Istanbul.
But i'm moreso thankful for the players on that night. Jerzy Dudek is one of those.

A few goals down, to winning a final can certainly change a lot of opinions. Had we not put on that comeback. well.

He is a good manager, let's get that right. But, at time, his selections, signings, bizarre (defensive) tactics and poor relationships with many many people in varied fields was just too disruptive to a club trying to build.
Despite our hard-fought 2nd place a few years back, we were in steady decline. Roy Hodgson was bought in to stop this decline but failed, we needed to start over.

To want Rafa back, is to cling to two things. That victory in Istanbul and that 4-1 massacre of United. In my opinion, we've every need in the world to put the Rafa years behind us and move on.

Reasonably effective, yet erratic, match-winner.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Are West Ham not buying his contract out? Wtf so confusing {Ed001's Note - a buying club buys the player's registration, not their contract.}

Agree0 Disagree0

So if I get this right. when we hear that some player is willing to cut their wages to go to another club, is that all a nonsense?
for example I heard sturridge cut his wages to come to Liverpool. does that mean chelsea are paying his remainder wages. I can understand why we have to pay contract fees when we release players or loan them out. but when we sell a player like Caroll, I can't understand where this contract fee come from. can you explain a bit more? {Ed001's Note - they are not even connected. I don't see the issue here. The selling club sells a player's registration to the buying club, they then pay up a 'loyalty bonus' which is often negotiated down if the player wants the move or is voided altogether if the player hands in a written transfer request. Which is why so many clubs ask players to hand one in before a move goes through, in order to keep the entire fee. The buying club then negotiates a new contract with the player, entirely separate to the old one, which may include higher or lower wages and usually a signing on fee, but is entirely unrelated to the previous club.}
