Liverpool Rumours
To all the Liverpool fans who continue to moan about RH and call for 'Dalglish!' Please give it a rest.
So everybody wants RH's head on the chopping block. It wouldn't surprise me that you are the very crowd of 'Liverpool supporters' who sang the happy tune: 'In Rafa We Trust!'
You can't have it both ways.
If it is the 'Rafa Brigade', it took you long enough to realize that he wasn't suited for the Premiership. With over 100+ players on the books and average players playing in the first 11 when he left, it has been up to RH to sort out a six year mess.
O.K., aside from the winning the European Cup and the FA Cup. .yawn, yawn, yawn, what did Benitez really achieve?
So, please before you start singing your sorry tune of RH OUT, Dalglish IN, just remember you are the fans that supported the mess the club found itself in.
Yeah, Dalglish may be a short term fix and a successful one, but let's not forgot he blew the club out and went to Blackburn.
Just think for a moment about what you're calling for.

Ed i see danny wilson played tonight and scored against faroe islands surely roy should see this and give him a start against west ham {ed's note - I actually don't think it will matter mate, not while there are experienced options at the club. The only way Wilson will get a go in the league is if Kyrgiakos, Skrtel and Carragher are all out injured.}

Ed, what can you think of to do with the club that I can be optimistic about? Very little to be excited about going on saturday's performance, but there must be something? {ed's note - Wilson's goal tonight must be a good cause for optimism surely?}

Danny wilson getting his full cap for scotland tonight and scoring, he also scored for the reserves last week, why is he not getting a chance in the full team right now, we got kerriacos for 1m as a back up, he has been the best defender this year, so what does that say about the rest, the sooner that man is sent on his way, the better for the future of liverpool football club tony from buckhaven in fife

To nemisis

Can we please stop the Hodgson bashing? It is not serving any purpose, and has developed into a kind of feeding frenzy.
He may not be the right man for the job, but he is the man who has the job, and he deserves respect.
You all know the lyrics to the Anthem, and yet so many of you are determined to see Hodgson walk alone. Where does that come from?
I'm not going to say that isn't "the Liverpool way" because I'll get canned for it, but some of the posts on this site are really unnecessarily unpleasant and vindictive - and that is definitely NOT the Liverpool way.
If you don't want to support the team (and I've seen posts here suggesting they would like to see Liverpool lose in order to place more pressure on the owners to sack a man who is after all just trying to do a job) then go away and support some other club, because LFC does not need you.
The club consists of the owners, the manager, the playing staff and the fans. Either support all, or go and support another club. Seriously. . .it is either in your blood or it isn't.
Don't want or need part-timers.

Some good points, and some i agree with. however

1; stop the hodgson bashing. .well in one way yes, but more because i really don't think NESV are going to do anything about roy till season end. unless something goes really really pear shaped and we hover above relagation zone (which is entirely possible with roys tactics). For us all to keep moaning about him (me included) just makes me depressed now.
2; yes the man deserves respect, and he does. however the manager is another thing entirely, he is getting very very well paid to do the job he supposed to be doing. give me half the money he is on and you can bitch about me all day long
3; please stop with all this its not the liverpool way rubbish. please. are we supposed to just sit and take the rubbish he serves up in the name of football. By your logic we shouldnt have complained etc about the evil duo. that wasnt the liverpool way either
4;I NEVER EVER want liverpool to lose anything, not a practice match, whatever
5; the club consists of etc. . i will tell you who the club consists of. us the supporters who fork out large amounts of money many of us can ill afford to watch OUR team, managers leave, players leave, owners leave. its us the supporters who stay through thick and thin and support the club. because we are a family, all of us, together. and just like families we argue and we have every right to
6; its in your blood or isnt. well yes. for us, the present day supporters who have been weaned by our fathers etc to love the club. if we continue as were are heading where do you think the next generation is coming from. do you really imagine for one moment that the children of today who are growing up will follow a team that produces such dire football. how can we teach the next generation to love the club when many of us certainly don't love or believe in the turgid mess they we are playing at the moment. .and that my friend is the fault of the manager. not the man. but the manager.

We have every right to complain, to make our voices heard, because if we don't we become just like sheep and willingto accept any old tosh that roy wants to play. now that is not the liverpool way

Look people stop all this negative feeling towards Woy Hodgson, leave it to the club to sort out.

Lets start looking at the good things like who were gonna try to sign in January.

If you remember not so long ago (summer 2010) after the world cup, Torres wanted out. Now he was made certain promises back then and one of those was to sign Sergio Agüero.

Trust me we will sign him. . .

If not January then it will be in the summer, it all depends on Atletico Madrid and when they will let him go.

What a wonderful day in the clubs history it would be if hodgson went to john henry and said, " john i am very sorry but i feel that i am unable to continue being your manager. i am out of my depth, and not capable of turning the teams situation around; i resign!"
well i am afraid redmen that hodgson is an old man that is very stubborn and set in his ways, his defensive tactics, and play not to lose policy will never change, ever! the man's arrogance and total denial that his methods are wrong will keep him hanging on, week in week out, virtually blind to what goes on around him and on the pitch, he is too stubborn to quit and he will put john henry in a position where he has to sack him, in just the same as he did at blackburn, he refused to quit, not through loyalty, through his own arrogance.
this is not and never will be the man we need at LFC!

Ed - Don't you think Roy has taken over Liverpool like they are a team struggling to stay in the premiership rather than a team struggling to stay in the top Four? NESV are good people and do the right things but bless them they will be the first to say they don't know much about football and how Roys principles are just not for Liverpool. Is Roy dead man walking?

Kiddox {ed's note - I fully agree mate, I think if NESV had been more knowledgeable about the sport we would already have a new manager.}

Hi ed personally i cannot warm to hodgson never liked his style of play but IMO he has us playing with the same mentality as he did with fulham as in he went out against stoke thinking a draw is a great result as it would be for fulham and we sit way too deep and don't pressure the ball enough maybe due to lack of pace. Just wonder what people thought of going for J. Henderson deffo one for the future bundles of energy and andy carrol, i had an argument with one of the eds about him few weeks back where the ed said he doesn't know where to run is clumsy and lazy, just wonder what you thought a few weeks on ed 13 games 7 goals 5 assists Mr Capello saw something! imo would be a reat foil for torres. What you reckon ed?

{Editor's Note: A different Ed no doubt; Carroll is a talent but must sort out his off-field issues before anything else. Henderson does look good though.}

There is a saying that states"it is better to say nothing and have people think you are a fool then to open your mouth and erase all doubt"maybe roy should consider this when giving interviews.also i am starting to question john henry's intelect as it would seem a very easy assessment that Roy's ability to win away from home is damaging as if he stays top PLAYERS will leave and we will finish nowhere and find it damn near impossible to attract the best players for our club for at least a decade even with a few of the youngsters coming through.i would hate to see us become a feeder club.

After analysing the last few days, it's time for some hard truths regarding transfers. I hate to admit this, but if players are going to be bought to "fit" Roy's system, then here is the tuff love we might all have to accept:
1) We are not going to sign anyone to compete for Joe Cole's place (which is going to be left wing, they lied to him when they said he will play centrally).
2) We are not signing any centre midfielders (No way he will add more people to compete with Poulson {Roy Loves him})
3) At best we will sign a Right Winger (I can't see us getting anyone good e.g fast, skillful and can cross). More like someone who is defensive minded and hard working like Kuyt.
4)Carlton Cole for a strike partner :-( errrgh

Meireles is a great footballer, alike with Joe Cole ; they're hard working, gifted and very talented - give them a bit of time and they will reach their high potential.

16 Nov 2010 17:35:21
Apparently Premier League clubs from next year will have to begin to live within their means i.e. available funds for transfers will be more closely linked to the respective club's generated profit than ever before.

Noting this, the best way forward / ultimate aim for premier league clubs from next year will be to become more self sufficient by nurturing significantly more talent from the academy through the reserves to make the first 11.

Comolli, Roy and scouts will be targeting quality young local / foreign talent to sign for the academy / reserves with the aim of finding the next Reina, Carra, Macca, Gerrard, Fowler, Torres and that it will be a process of at least 5 years before we start to reap the rewards.

IMO in order to attract the world's best young talent we need to consistently be challenging for a top 4 place. Other than local talent, which young foreign talent will want to join a mid table side over teams like Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea and even Spurs. Why would top talent young or "old" want to join us next summer if we didn't even challenge for a top 4 spot after Christmas 2010.

IMO to maintain a challenge for a top 4 place we need to improve the current 25 ("21") man squad NOW.

AGREE if it is crucial for both our long and short term future to keep pace with the top 4 this year and at least attempt to sign three quality 15m+ players in January.

DISAGREE if it would be better to wait until summer 2011 before making any quality 15m+ signings.

LFC is in crisis. The team are not playing like they believe in the manager.
This is why things must change and soon. It will be too late in January to change management as this will not give a new man enough time to put his ideas together and sign players.
It is difficult for the fans to watch what is happening after Rafa and now new ownership. I believe it will take time to rebuild, but not with Roy in charge, he gives us fans no confidence at all, so it makes sense the players probably do not have much confidence in him either.
I will not slag the manager off as this is not the way to go. . but I do hope the Boston boys will soon change the way things are being done and bring us the Liverpool we all want and Need.

As much as I don't believe Woy is the man to take us forward, he did take the job at a time when no-one knew what would happen with the ownership. It must have been a brave decision for him to make, knowing that he could've been given the boot by any new owner once the club was sold. There wasn't really anyone else around at the time who could've accepted such instability. The players are not exactly helping much are they? Everyone just calm down, we're not going to make amazing signings in January, even if we were in the top 4, the players are just not really available orare unwilling to move. And can we please stop mentioning players names to sign just because they can sell us a few more key rings in Asia or elsewhere. Some people have truly lost perspective of what it is to be a footy fan.

We mention players i.e Honda because in NESV words. We (NESV) are looking to sign young, marketable players with a sell on value. We also mention players such as honda because he offers something we lack he has pace and can create. He also wants away from CSKA asap, also he has talked up a move to LFC he fits bill. . . . You say to give Roy a chance to proove people wrong fair enough that's your own opinion. But can you or anyone answer these questons for me.

How much longer would you give him? If he said himself "Judge me after 10 games" It's now 13.

Would you trust him to buy quality players in January or the summer?

If you were asked to sign for LFC would you like the thought of playing under Hodgson? Especially if the players we have now don't want to play for him except Poulsen.

Do you not get embarrassed everytime you hear him speak about matches, players and the club?

I'm not ridiculing your opinions but i'd just like to know why some people would like to give him more time. The only reason anyone has said about giving Roy more time is it's not the "Liverpool way" to slag off our manager. But for me persnoally that's not good enough we are slagging him of because he's not good enough and the "Liverpool way" is not setting our team out home or away to draw.

Following these new owners reiterating their ill-advised, well and truly misguided support for the pain-in-the-arse, could anyone tell me what why Torres, Pepe, Agger, Pacheco, Mavinga, Suso and our other highly promising lads should stay at this club?

Henry harps on about how the academy should be producing top drawer products, yet, some of the best youths we've had in years (Mavinga, Pacheco) are being made to rot in the fringes. What's Henry doing about that?Nothing. What's the point of having a youth system if its products will either be misused, or not used at all.

He says that it's not Roy who built this squad.Well, who's destroying it?Who bought the 2 well below horrendous and mediocre 29/ 30 year old Konchesky and Poulsen for over £8m and two promising youth players and got rid of Aqulani and Insua, who could've improved?Who gave, to be frank, a well and truly finished Carra a two year deal?

Who plays players out of position?Who publicly criticizes his players?Who alienates players?Who devises crap and stinking tactics?Who fails to fire up his charges?Who's masterminded this club's worse ever start to a season?Who said we must judge him after ten games?Who's a defeatist?

Henry says they're "winners", and are proponents of youth development. If so, why the hell stick with clueless loser?
Comoli saying he and Roy share the same vision, that their relationship's going to develop "in a positive way".FFS!Are ya kiddin' me?

I'll end this by saying that, either Henry and Comoli are tellin' them lies with this whole "we're behind Roy", "we share the same vision" bulls* t, or they're incredibly STUPID and way out of touch with reality in believing in such an abject loser Roy.
You know I find it seriously bewildering that you'd pay £300m only to see and just watch it go down the drain.

Or am I the dumb boy here?Ed, can you tell me that Henry and Comoll were genuinely serious with their "we don't blame roy", "we share the same vision", "our relationship will develop positively" statements?
Ed, please tell me that it was just some PR thing, or whatever they call it.

=Son of Silver=

Jesus you liverpool supporters really are a sad lot, your team is so boring its laughable, i'd close the curtains if they were in my garden. Your players are either old and past it or already looking forward to playing for their next club. Gerrard has only one season left in him, carragher is finished, Torres looks like hes already thinking of what hes gonna do with all the money he gets from his transfer next summer be it back to spain or to man city, Reina's off in January ha ha, even Johnson is about to jump ship.

So what, ya's got new owners, no point having money when nobody'll sign for ya's anyway, big players want to play in the champions league, your lot will be lucky to even qualify for the europa league next year.

Your manager looks like he's about to have a nervous break down, he thinks beating bolton was a famous win, just shows how far you have fallen when winning away to bolton is met with such optimism. SAD SAD SAD

So stop living in the past, your nothing but a mid table team now with ambitions of qualifing for europe.

There is a malise in the club; in simple terms we could call it a sort of cancer that is spreading. What causes it is speculation such as we have here, or more often than not, a real issue that depresses those involved.
What this means to us all is that the fabric of the club continues to shake. There a number of reasons and clear signs of this - but so many posters on here seem to refuse to belive them and bang on and on an on about 'keeping the faith'!

This is not the first time I've said this (not that it should matter to anyone) and yet it's still true. I have supported the Reds since 1961 but I will complain and waver in my views as and when the tides wash crap over us. This is one of those times.

Roy Hodgson has lost the fans - that's evident to even the most diehard fan.
Torres wants to leave - ignore the short-term peace in our time speeches.
Reina has had enough - he is not happy with Roy and his tactics from what I read, see, hear and feel.
Pacheco is unsettled - despite slagging off Spanish media experts, the boy is unhappy.
Shelvey is wasted - he should start more often. We bought him for £1.7 million and he is a sub when he has talent.
Babel - why is he still here?
Wilson - why did he bother signing for us? The kid is quality and yet hardly makes the bench.
Mavinga - he said weeks ago play me or sell me. Why do we keep hold of him and restrict his chances of making a first team squad?
Jovanovic - he wants to leave and I can't blame him.

I can't be bothered writing pages more of this.
OK - some it is my speculation, but there is nothing happening at the moment at LFC that fills me with joy.

We will finish no higher than seventh this year.
Who would really want to come to us?
Look at the names Roy is floating as possible signings and consider how they would match up to Gerrard, Torres and Reina when they leave.

I said months ago (and bored you then and will again) that we "are an average club with a massive history."
We roll on fulfilling that promise each week!

What exactly is the use of buying good young players just to sell them for 1 million in profit 3 or 4 years later? People saying get behind roy, f*** off back to the manc banter page and discuss the weather. He makes fat sam allardyce look like pep guardiola.
Red bl00ded! {ed's note - just because you don't agree with what they say doesn't mean they shouldn't come here and post their viewpoint. Sometimes it is good to be reminded of other people's views to calm us down and stop us getting carried away with our own.}

YNWA ALLS IM SAYING (Abridged)"

I agree with the above sentiment. After the team's poor performance over the last 12 months prior to Roy's appointment, tumultous change of ownership recently and loss of 5 key players - Arbeloa, Hyypia, Alonso, Mascherano and Benayoun over the last 18 months there is significant change and rebuilding to be done. Other teams meanwhile have had stability and a chance to build momentum hence we look very poor by comparison. It could be worse we could be Man City - massive outlay, huge wage bill, non sustainable business model and still can't manage to break into compete with top three.

Deep down we all know that Roy is probably not the long term person for the job and whilst we are all frustrated it is understandable that this boils over into negativity and sometimes hositility. We have to accept the situation for what it is however- it could well take a season or two to get us back up there whoever is in charge.

Truth is that Rafa was a strategist and was building something based on his vision and values at Liverpool with little or no guidance or input from the warring owners and inept CEO. It collapsed around him for many reasons - some attributable to him and most for external reasons. Much of what he built has gone (players, ethos, tactics) and some players remain (Torres, Reina). It is normal for them not to feel part of, inspired by or loyal to the new manager - again, whoever he is.

The new ownership team should be taken at face value - they say they are here for and looking at the long term - that means fundamental root and branch changes. But in the short term you assess and weigh your options hence Roy is where he is (for now) whilst they mull it over. Bringing in a director of football is a clear statement of intent that change will occur. The football isn't pretty and performances a long way short of what we expect but true and committed supporters get behind the team no matter what. Shankly didn't do it over night and the new owners won't either, it will take time if it's to be done right. Personally I don't think Roy will be around much after the new year but either way he is the manager for now and much as we disagree with team selection and tactics we would be better to back him and hope we get results. Like the black stuff - good things come to those who wait ;-)

Can I clear up that Manchester United 'supporters' wear green and gold because it is thier origional colours. If anything, if we wanted to protest to anything out colours would be Blue and White. . We did used to be called Everton after all. . {ed's note - we were never called Everton, that is a completely separate entity and nothing to do with Liverpool FC at all. We did used to play in blue and white quarters though, but that was nothing to do with Everton whatsoever.}

Why do Liverpool seem to attract managers who think signing

Four 5 million players is better then two 10 million players or one 20 million players.

I'd love to see the total amount of money Liverpool has wasted on squad players,

People always oh well Rafa recouped most of what he spent so his net spend wasn't to high!Of course he did! Most of what he recouped was on the rubbish he bought in he first place!

Whoever wants him back is deluded, he was awful, had he not won the champions league in 2005, he would have been long gone before last year, that win bought him a lot of misguided loyalty!

After todays comments about us looking to buy good English talent. Then don't be supprised if Conor Wickham is one of our transfer targets in January.

Agger wants to go, Glen Johnson wants to go, Pepe wanted to go and now our best youngster Pacheco wants to go. All because of that b***ard Roy Hodgson and for these people saying still get behind the manager seriously get a f***ing grip. It's ok to slag off players but not the manager?

I thought that NESV/ Fenway sports were smart people. But i'm startng to have my doubts as they have said that they would listen to what fans have to say on any subject about the club. Even with the fans saying on most LFC forums that Hodgson isn't good enough and the fans singing Kenny's name they still persist with backing Hodgson.

So what are NESV/ Fenway sports doing? Are they burying their heads in the sand and petending they hear nothing? So they won't have to deal with the problem (Hodgson) and hope that the problem (Hodgson) will sort itself out. If that's the case then NESV/ Fenway sports have bought the wrong club. Because if this carries on the LFC fans will eventually have to pull NESV's heads out of the sand and explain to them that Hodgson is indeed the problem. After all it was them who wanted to know and hear from the fans what was the best way to move the club forward and Hodgson does not fit in with our future.

If this statement is true, if he really believes this then I am afraid he does not know enough about football or LFC. Maybe those who said they were not the right buyers were correct but only time will tell. Sadly if he really believes this it will be to much time.
This statement seems to contradict the fact that he has spoken to the big name players who clearly are not at their best under Roy.

Sadly it looks like NESV may have got it wrong.I agree we have to rebuild for the future but where do you start rebuilding from? If we get a quick fix of some sort now we can keep our stars and still be playing in Europe next season. If things stay as they are with Roy in charge we will struggle to qualify for the Europa League , let alone Champions league. That could mean losing stars and having to rebuild from a worse position in which case it could be years before we are a top 4 team again.
Hang on to the best and build on what we have before it gets any worse is my opinion.

I think fans have to except that Liverpool will not be giving a quick fix by the new owners.I for one am prepared to wait as long as we can see an improvement.We have in the last year bought very good young lads, Suso Sterling, Shelvey, Wilson and Silva.We now need a few players in the 22-26 yrs bracket. My main concern is the way the manager sets his team out. Henry said he will listen to fans, but will Roy listen to anyone. I very much doubt this, he believes his methods are the best way to take the club forward.His style of football, playing so deep, depresses me so much.The back four at the moment are a bunch of Hoofers.This style will not win over the fans.Change the way you play Roy or get use to Kenny chants. Thoughts Ed. {ed's note - I agree with you, the club has so many signs for optimism for the future. The problem is the manager's tactics are not getting the best from the players and are holding us back. I wish I could see any signs of Roy looking to change that and going out there to attack, but it is just not his way.}

I agree mate - I hope he comes good too - not because I'm a fan, but because I don't like to see anyone do poorly at Liverpool. I was disappointed for Keane, Dossena and Aquilani (and even Voronin! ), and I pray that Joe Cole finds his best soon. I don't rate Poulsen at all but hopefully he can pull off a screamer against Man U and we'll always remember him (ala Dossena in our 1 - 4 slaughter). - LIVERPRES

I really hope we are wise in January (if we sign anyone). We can't continue the trend that we've been doing for the past 10 years - sign a player, he has a bad year and is sold again.

We've been linked with players like Payet. Camolli recently praised him on Sky Sports, so lets move for players like him. He's 23, would cost like £7m from what we hear, and obviously has talent. £7m isn't that big a risk, and I'm sure if it didn't work out for him we could recoup that from a club abroad.

Its players like this we need to go for. Not 29 year old players who are well past their best and on high wages like Wright-Phillips.

Hello Ed,

It is sad to hear that the new owners are not spending money in the January transfer, and to make matters worse our big names at the club want out if there is no talent coming in.
with Roy being there is still another disapointment, rather bring in Kenny so we can try to salvage a top 4 finish and keep our players.
If this saga at this once great football club continues than as a Liverpool fan i hate to admit that we will either end up lingering at the bottom half of the table or worst down to relegation.

Ed, what do you think? {ed's note - I don't really understand where you get the not spending in January from? I just got the impression they were just lowering expectations myself, to stop us expecting them to go out and buy a whole new team.}

whats worrying to me is that these guys wanna buy english young talent. .when i don't see any that liverpool can buy to win the league or any cups that are available e.g A.johnson.
The phrase long-term also worries me as that they seem to wanna find young guys who would be great after playing for atleast 4 seasons in the prem. .I SAY WHY? ?
we have one of the best NUCLEUS. . REINA GERRARD TORRES. .
why don't they jus invest in say 4 top players. .which get us back amongst the top and in the champions league. .and then add slowly some youngsters as time goes on. . that way you don't lose the top players

Ok I don't normally come on here a respond to the many stupid comments supposed fans post. But seriouly, who in their right mind is complaining about the new owners already?

Some people really need to start coming down to reality. NESV have purchased a long term investment, they need to make a return on that investment and it would be nice for the club to win some things along the way (more the club wins, the more financial return can be generated) but it's been plain to see that the club was badly run over the last few years and these things cannot be sorted out over night. I'm sure the club will start to improve over time but that time could realistically be the next 3 to 5 years.

Bottom line is this; NESV have just spent £300 million on an investment (which none of us are lucky enough to have) and it will be a long long time before they recoup that amount and start to earn a return, spending ridiculous amounts on players will just drag the time to return potential on even longer so first things first, get the club profitable then consider reinvesting to increase that profitability.

And so our scourge rages on. .unabated, unrelenting, leaving a sweeping and far-reaching destruction in it's wake. When will enough be enough? When, huh?
When this great institution has been brought down to its knees. .by a man who couldn't break out of his limitations to save his own life?

When we're languishing in the bottom three with ten games to go?Will that be the final straw that breaks the camel's back? When the damage done would've reached irreparable proportions?

For far too long fans of this club have been disenfranchised, ostracised and disregarded.
So now that John W Henry has been presented with the opportunity to prove to the fans how valued and highly regarded their views, concerns and hopes are;of reassuring the fans, and truly kickstarting a new period, he instead chooses the option which will likely be he's major undoing. .an option whose repercussions will take years to recover from.

Time is supposed to heal, make better. However, it's the exact opposite at Anfield. Each day;each match;each comment by the manager;the players' morale and demeanour;the fans' mood. .it's worst than the last, it's deteriorating.
There's no progress, but its opposite.

Calls have been made to "support the manager".Why?"It's the Liverpool way" is the answer you're gonna get.Not because there's been signs of improvement;not because there truly and genuinely exists the conviction that the manager indeed has what it takes to turn it around. No;but because we're "Liverpool fans", and sticking with managers is "entrenched in our tradition".

Well, in an age where change is the order of the day, where adaptability more often than not is the borderline between life and death;success and failure, wouldn't it help to take a more realistic, more pragmatic way to look at and decide on things.
Shall we keep doing something merely because it worked some decades ago;cos it's what's expected of us, even when it's decidedly and demonstrably working contrary to our best interests?
Hasn't the time come to be much more realistic and pragmatic a lot?

Oh, Father, so much for a new and new beginnings.

John Henry is fully backing Roy so lets all lay off him and back him and the rest of the players too.

Henry has hinted we won't spend much in January, but will probably spend mcuh more in the summer.

Therefore, we ain't going to sign the likes of Llorente, Mata, Turan etc.

Lets just say Henry says we have £20m to spend. Why not try these possible deals out. .

Adam Johnson - £15m
Aaron Lennon - £5m plus Ryan Babel
Shaun Wright-Phillips - Loan until the Summer
Roque Santa Cruz - Loan until the Summer
Robbie Keane - Loan until the Summer

Yes, I know Keane wasn't the best for us but he wasn't given a chance. I think he would have been great. Santa Cruz and SWP are experienced and wouldn't cost that much. And the advantage is we wouldn't have lost millions on these 3 if they are failures. Decent back-up for Torres until we can splash out on a new striker in the summer.

Adam Johnson and Aaron Lennon both fall into the 'young British' category that Comolli was referring to yesterday. Both only 23, pacy, good wingers.

A third of the Premier League season, and not even a third of games won. That's how bad it's been.

As noted here, Liverpool won just three of the first 10 league matches, and in the next three, it's only been one win. There's a pattern present. Roy Hodgson sees the Stoke result as a 'blip', but when you've failed to win nine of 13 games, the blip appears to be the victories.

Maybe he's spent too long as a big fish in a small pond. His own words tend to prove the theory.

After the Chelsea game, I promised to tone down my criticisms of Roy - unless there was a dramatic downturn in results.

Well, the two performances following what should have been the biggest morale-boosting win the manager was likely to get have been simply unacceptable. The Reds then took the lead early at Wigan, and from that moment on, it's been unbearable to watch.

Yes, it's just two games on, but so appalling have they been - as were so many before the Chelsea game - that the victory over the champions looks more than exception than the rule.

My 'fear' - outlined in that same piece - was the Napoli and Chelsea results were based on the NESV 'bounce': a buzzing Anfield, welcoming our new owners.

We didn't get the usual new manager upturn that statistics prove happens in the first 8-10 games, when results pick up due to the desire to impress the new boss; but we appeared to get something resembling it during the week that John W Henry and his wife Linda Pizzuti were gracing games.

But as soon as their backs were turned, so did the results and performances: turning back to the early season 'norm'.

After Chelsea, I felt six wins from nine games would get us to 'acceptable' - 10 wins from 20; a fraction ahead of Benítez's worst full-season figure of 45% of games won (2004/ 05, although with the Champions League won at the same time) and 47% (2009/ 10), but nowhere near his best of 66% (2005/ 06 and 2008/ 09), or his overall average of 55%.

But now, it would need six wins from seven just to reach 50%. Currently, the Reds have won just 31% of league matches; less than a third, and even slightly worse than Hodgson's record at Fulham.

Last season, the Cottagers averaged a fraction above a uninspiring goal a game in the league (39 in 38 games; not a good total even for a club like Fulham). Right now, Liverpool's average is even worse - exactly one goal per game.

He's been given Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt and Aquilani (oops) and brought in Cole and Meireles, only to score 13 in 13. Bolton have 22; Newcastle 21; Blackpool 19. West Brom have 16. Even Stoke have 15. Only two teams have scored fewer goals than Liverpool in the league.

Possession has been far worse this season. Subscribers can read about exactly how poor compared with last season here.

Defenders are sitting deeper, and despite two incredibly narrow midfielders, the full-backs aren't even compensating by overlapping as much. Subscribers can read about exactly how poor compared with last season here.

It's cowardly football; 'underdog football', which is more likely to work against Chelsea - against whom fans will just about tolerate the side conceding possession at Anfield - than weaker teams.

Let's take a closer look at where it's going wrong:

13-Game Premier League Analysis by TTT regular and professional data analyst Dan Kennett

With one third of the season gone LFC are performing as badly as they've ever done in the Premier League era

. 16 points is the joint-lowest total along with Souness in 1992/ 93

. 13 goals scored is the fewest

. Four games won is the joint-fewest along with 1992/ 93 and the ill-fated Houllier/ Evans joint tenure in 1998/ 99

. -4 is the worst goal difference we've had at this stage of the season

. 12th position in the league is the 2nd worst after 1992/ 93

. Five defeats is the joint-highest along with seven other seasons (including last season)

. We've only got HALF the number of points we had at this stage in 2008/ 09

If we compare against the median of Liverpool's Premier League record after 13 games then Hodgson is behind on every single measure, apart from number of clean sheets

Even against last season's dismal campaign, this season is worse almost across the board.

Last season's points total of 20 was below the median and acknowledged as a poor start. However at least the fans had the solace of seeing some entertaining games, and of course, there was an injury crisis to contend with.

LFC had banged in 29 goals already (compared to 13 this season) and the 20 goals against meant an average of 3.8 goals per game.

At the moment we've got the worst of both worlds, shocking results and shocking entertainment.

All Hodgson had to do was recreate a typical LFC start and we'd be sitting pretty in 4th. Even maintaining the "disastrous" performance of last season would've seen us in 5th. That Liverpool sit in 11th place after 13 games in this of all seasons is the most damning indictment of all.

Further Analysis

Adding to Dan's work above, I'd like to point out a few more things.

In the exact same 13 fixtures (replacing promoted sides with those promoted last season), the Reds were five points better off: 21 to 16. So what was gained against Chelsea has been more than lost elsewhere. And again, last season was deemed unacceptable.

One bonus Roy has is that he doesn't have to play a strong team in the Europa League; last season - and indeed, every season under Benítez - there was the far trickier balancing act of keeping players fresh; no-one would accept a total 'B' team in the Champions League or Premier League (unless it was late in the season and there was little left to play for.)

In the summer I noted that Roy's lack of rotation would be problematic. On one of the few occasions where he's been under pressure to win weekend-midweek-weekend, results went from a win to a draw to a defeat.

He noted that the midweek result - 1-1 at Wigan - was affected by tiredness (he didn't change team that ran hard against Chelsea), and then made only one change against Stoke - replacing the young, fit Kelly to move the far less mobile Carragher to full-back where, presumably, he was not going to find getting up and down the pitch at all easy.

You've just admitted your team is tired, yet you do nothing to freshen it up. The art of rotation is to keep altering two or three players, and being flexible enough in your approach to see that.

Creative Abyss

Hodgson also bemoaned the lack of creativity against Stoke, and said that the forwards need to work harder to help make that possible.

Well, Fernando Torres had just scored three goals in his previous two appearances, but in each - as at Stoke - he was expected to chase high punts, long balls and lost causes. No wonder he looked jaded and disinterested. You don't take possession of a thoroughbred and use him as a carthorse.

Look at the team: two full-backs not known for getting forward, and two honest centre-backs who are purely stoppers. Creativity? Zero. Agger was frozen out before his injury, Johnson not trusted even before he was publicly criticised. Insua, who was leading the league table in full-back assists last season up until the spring (six, from open play), is now in Turkey. How are you going to create from the back?

In midfield, the talented Meireles is playing so narrow and so deep he might as well be back in his erstwhile defensive midfield role, alongside Lucas. Gone is the more creative Aquilani, who was the league's top assist-maker in the second half of last season, and is arguably the best midfielder in Italy this season (Juventus fans seem to think so).

There just isn't any width or any pace. If you're going to play with unadventurous full-backs who won't overlap, and yet won't use the pace and trickery of Jovanovic or Babel, then it's going to get very stodgy.

Add that the clever little Danny Pacheco appears to have been sent to Coventry (not even on loan, mind), and that the regular goalscorer and creator Benayoun (who wanted out) was replaced by the fading light of Joe Cole, and it's no wonder that Liverpool have become unbearable to watch.

To lose to Stoke is one thing; to be outplayed by them quite another.

So blaming Torres is just one more way to shift blame, and alienate top class players who can see through a limited, dull system that works well for underdogs like Fulham, but is patently unsuited to a team expected to win more than 30% of games.

Here's further statistical analysis (by Andrew Beasley, TTT's 'Beezdog') of one aspect of the problems we've been suffering under Roy.

So far, Liverpool have played 13 league games. If you exclude the 0-0 with Birmingham, that leaves 12 games where Liverpool have either scored first or conceded first.

Scored First

P7 W4 D3 L0 F10 A5 GD +5 Pts 15 Pts per game 2.14

Conceded First

P5 W0 D0 L5 F3 A12 GD -9 Pts 0 Pts per game 0

This appears to be a fairly damning indictment of Roy's 'Plan A only' approach. The only one of the five games we conceded first in and made any vague comeback was Man Utd away where we got level at 2-2 before conceding again. So if Plan A works we get at least a draw from the match, and if doesn't, we get nothing.

(Note: in Europe the Reds have twice managed to come from behind to win games. But Hodgson was brought in to improve league form; the Reds made the semi-final of the Europa League last season and no-one saw it as compensation.)

Conclusion

So, with help from Dan and Andrew, it's possible to see where things have been going wrong.

Yet again, all the stats are reminiscent of the problem under Houllier, when the Reds never came from behind to win in his final five seasons (in the league). When Benítez took over, it was achieved in his very first league home game, and then again a couple of months later, away at Fulham (2-0 down, won 4-2, despite being down to 10 men). By this stage last season the Reds had come from behind to beat Bolton.

Liverpool's home record was at its worst in the Premier League era under Houllier, but so far, Hodgson has won only half of his Anfield league matches.

There has to be a serious argument for replacing the manager as soon as possible, to bring in a younger, more modern and adventurous man, in order to give him the rest of the season to bed in and plan ahead.

The benefits of waiting include possibly improving the chances of other managers becoming available (though Liverpool can 'make' them available), and of course, taking time to get the decision right.

But right now, with so many players unhappy with the manager - and most of the talented players, at that - and almost all of the fans sick of the horrible football that's been served up, holding on could do more damage.

Postscript

Why Hodgson was almost certainly the wrong man for Liverpool FC from the start is clearly outlined in my new book:

"Pay As You Play: The True Price of Success in the Premier League Era".

So we will sign more useless defenders, and players with no fight or bottle in them.

Ihope Nesv will go in a new direction if roys poor form carries on and will go for a young manager like Andre villas boas or quiqe sanchez Flores fingers crossed they do as I rekon it would kickstart the team again and bring a new lease of life also would be able to bring in there own players with nesv and comolli input instead of giving Roy millions to waste in jan on people like swp and Carlton cole or more defensive players

let me tell you why, if houdgson won the last two games which would equal Benitez'z record in 1st season (6 won in 13), at least everyone won't mind giving him a chance. champions league and europa league arent the same, we are playing the most negative football in the club's history. Benitez was a hot shot when he came and Hodgson's record in all these years just not enough for our club, so no hope. besides if we get rid of benitez we have every right to demand for a better one. talking of unity, Hodgson is the one man taking it away, look at the players. he doesn't attract quality players. all we can get with him is other poulsens and koncheskys. list goes on. one thing is for sure. yes we love our managers and we tolerate them when results don't go our way. but managers also understood what this club means to our us. i don't think hodgson gets it yet. otherwise all the negative football and the mr nice guy interviews wouldn't happen.
Liverpool isn't a charity club for managers. as a big club when everything goes wrong we should act

In response to the guy with all the , , who signed off YNWA ALLS IM SAYING

Stats can be manipulated, like you just did. Hodgeson's euro games were Europa qualifiers not Champs league. . And rafa won 6 whereas RH won just 4 league games - 3 points for a win remember, so rafa had 20 league points and Roy 16. .
That's without starting to compare the quality of squads. .

I believe in YNWA, but I can't standby and watch someone who clearly isn't up to standard, continue to tarnish the already damaged reputation of LFC. Some sort of hope for the future, a positive approach, a belief in football would satisfy me right now. I understand we aren't going to be winning the league, but with positive football and good management we could realistically win the Fa cup/ Europa and get fourth place. RH doesn't believe we can so who is really walking alone?

If all the rumours are to be believed then not only Benitez, but also some of the players became involved with the politics of the club last season.
It cost Benitez his job (whether you agreed with him or not) and if the players are using their performances (or lack of!) to try and influence the managerial situation, they should be shown the door as well NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE.
The players are paid massive amounts to play football and as such should get on with it and do their best for the team and club and not their own interests.
You can't have the lunatics running the asylum!

I don't think Hodgson is the right man for the job by the way. But NESV have to now be trusted to sort that and any related football matters out by bringing in the right people to achieve the goal.
Those claiming stupid things such as JWH not knowing how important Champions League football is should take a long hard look at themselves. These people are businessmen who will hopefully take a more measured and structured view of how to get the club back on top than the previous owners did, after all, it's in their best interests for that to happen.

Still a lot of people on the blame hodgson band wagon. I have to say i am on it as well. I don't like the style of football or negative tactics. But some of the blame also has to be the players who in the same system have shown what they can do. We have some world class players who only turn up when they wish to. It used to be they would play for the shirt. I think for this season we need to suck it up, we will finish where we finish and when (as ed said) we find a new manager, we can finally say good bye to mediocrity and welcome the winds of change. One final note j w mentioned top 4 young players in the academy being utilised more. . .does that include pacheco. Ck1.

"we stick by our manager" could this be the reason we haven't won a league title in 20 seasons?
The big name players some of you are linking us with are laughable, why would they leave the clubs they are with now for a mid-table team with no european football to play.NESV should show some balls and get this clown out, its pathetic, a manager who looks confused all the time, players who don't want to play for him and all some of you can say is give him more time to it turn it around, do you mean like he did at Blackburn?Winning manager of the season is means nothing, remember George Burley 10 years ago with Ipswich? the next season they were relegated.
We are going no where with this man, if the new owners cannot see this then they should stick to playing baseball, if you have a cancer you get it removed, you don't give it time, Hodgson needs to be removed.

af. so hows it going roy
rh. as well as be expected sir, i have done as you suggested and have told all the players in no uncertain terms that they should not bother attacking
af. good roy, that's very good. did you deal with the fallout from me verbally attcking torres
rh. oh yes sir. that went really well. i gave him no support at all. his confidence was shot to bits. so long as the others stop giving him any support on the pitch this will work really well.

af. good roy. you are doing well. what i want you to do next is. (this portion has been wiped as was far too sensitive)

rh. ok sir. i shall do as you ask. you know i always will sir. when can i come home

af. not yet you fool, there is still work to be done. now get working on that frenchman. don't forget you need to make sure that the team is a complate shambles before anyone else takes over. then and only then will i let you come and coach our 8 year olds

How ever much i want this to happen i don't believe we'll get rid of him till at least the summer. Unless the season really crashes.

So think it's time to stop getting at him till at least the end of the season. And lets hope he won't buy to much crap in jan So carlton cole, and one or two others Just what torres wants a world class international forward to play with Carlton Cole lol what is he thinking. he's going to help in the goal scoring front isn't he

Benitez and Hodgson may have approximatley the same record in terms of stats, but look at performance. Under Benitez Liverpool were actually playing a creative and attacking game, home and away. Under Hodgson Liverpool play a cagey and nervous game, afraid to attack and the individuals are scared to put their stamp or their influence on the game.
Id rather have Benitez here, losing or drawing but playing with an open attacking flair, than Hodgson with our scared and practically incompetent play.

I think you need to get a sense of reality,

1. chelsea in the summer. 1 good period of 35 mins doesn't make a season

2 He did have money to spend. think hard. poulsen, konchesky, raul, brad jones

3 His tactics consist of getting all of the players except torres to stay in their own half. keep on like this we may as well play with 11 goalkeepers.

4 Sorry. but do you really really have to lose letters. hve. how much harder is it to actually write have

1) He's had his chances for the past 35 years but his stats show he hasn't taken them
2) Benitez spent money in his first four seasons but the last two he also spent net 0.
3) He clearly does not command respect from the fans, but MORE IMPORTANTLY FROM THE PLAYERS eg. Johnson and Reina. . The French national team players in the world cup did not respect Raymond Domenech. .look what happened to them even though they had one of the best squads. The French FA were too slow to react and NESV should learn from that

Stop saying that we need to give roy hodgson a chance to turn things around please. his tactics won't change overnight . it has nothing to do with succes or not . i rather lose every match and be in relegation but play fantastic attacking football then get 3 lucky wins Hence Bolton and wba for instance. .

i don't like defensive coaches. if they did there job well i could deal with it . but tell me how many goals did we concede? ? so not much off a good defensive coach . . And don't blame the players because there are alot of teams worse then us (Quality wise) who are playing like a team and that has everything to do with coaching (Ian holloway , owen coyle , hell even mick mcarthy does a good job attacking wise. .

Henry knows how to work the press. He owns the Boston Red Sox for crying out loud. Boston has probably the most negative media in the US, especially at the time Henry took over prior to the Sox winning the World Series, their first in 86 years. The media is not going to affect him at all. He knows what its like to own a "special" team. The Red Sox are one of the 3-5 most important teams in baseball.

As for manager I think they will wait till after the year. Andre Villa-Boas does seem to fit the kind of guy Henry would be attracted to. He is young, smart and his background is not that of a former player. Seems like the kind of guy Henry would like.

I understand those fans who claim give Roy a chance on the bassis he's a nice bloke.
But can you honestly say you have seen a organised dominant team this season?
Arsenal we we good for a half.
Chelsea we had a good 20 minutes but the Chelsea was very understrength.
The team is playing awful and the players just simply lack organisation and confidence. We are leaking more goals than dog n duck yet it's the same defence that boasted being one of the best in world football under Benitez's rein.
So I guess my questions to those who support Hodgson at this this time would be. .
Where do you realistically believe ( not hope) Liverpool can finish this season under his management?
Where will our next win be?
Will he bring in very good players?
Will our form improve?
Will will attack better?
The Answers to these at this time don't look good do they.
How can you question the majority of fans who go week in week out in all Weathers to watch their idols?
How can you question those who watch every game wether at Anfield or at home?
There is logical reasons why fans are turning in droves and it has nothing to do with loyalty. It's purely footballing reasons.
I'm sure if Liverpool made a run of wins and looked more organised and attacking then Roy wouldn't get so many critizims. By loosing out on Champions league next season could be the end for our big stars.
So the fans have a right to voice there opinion!

"(2) Virtually every sports finance analyst agrees that NESV got an excellent deal that was in no way inflated.

You really believe that, only reason it was valued so high was because of £288 million of debt.

The playing staff, stadium, revenue doesn't justify the price tag.

We got knocked out of champions league. (-£100m in earning power) lost xabi alonso and marchreao two key assets."

I'm only going by what those who specialise in the field say. Consider the gross turnover of the club and huge marketing potential to increase this further, £300m was a good deal for NESV, our revenue is very healthy even with a smaller stadium than competitors.

I'm interested as to where you got the figure of £100m for lack of CL football - do you have a source for that? Last i checked the word was that this was factored into the finances and the increase in sponsorship offset this to some degree, though that's based on a lower figure than £100m, so if you can point me to where you found that sum i'd be very interested.

We no longer have Alonso and Mascherano true, but they can be replaced, they were great players, but not key assets in the financial sense as neither shifted a great deal of merchandise.

I suppose i just fail to see why troubles are already being laid at the door of the new owners. Liverpool is a massive brand that holds its importance in the market even when not competing at the highest level. We have cleared the acquisition debt, hopefully have a man in place to stop different managers wasting money and owners keen to open dialogue with the fans. Once the board is structured and the right managerial candidate is identified things will move quicker, but for now i fail to see what more the owners could be doing to appease everyone.

Only problem> keeping a Veria or sol cambell around like alex ferginson did with scholes and Gigg would helped arsenal win more trophies.

But Wenger made a profit in the transfer market.

Last season has been a disaster and expecting thing to turn around quickly this year is asking too much. We should support what the Manager and players trying to do. Leave it to the Owners regarding the Manager position, they will know what to do best. Liverpool, be it Manager or players need every support they can get. There is no quick fix to all this and asking Roy head is not a quick fix .

Every one need to cool down until this January or most likely next summer to see where the Owners is going to bring the club direction to.We still have a chance to be in the top 4. Remember Sunderland 3 Chealsea 0. Anything can happen and m glad this year the league is so competetive. Ed , i hope you don add more fuel towards sacking our Manager. he may not be the right person but at the moment he is the Liverpool manager. leave it to the Owners , m sure they will act when things are out of hand.M just saying support the club in everything including the Manager and players alike.

RE: Its what Arsenal have set up and it seems to be working to an extent, possibly needs tweeking although that could be down to wenger

I remember a the time he only needed to buy a midfield to change the way the team played - signing Overmars , Vieira & Petit . They effectively determined how the team would perform , passing the ball through midfield from defense to attack .

It was years before he had to make wholesale changes - Bergkamp & Wright became Bergkamp and Anelka/ Henry , then Campbell partnered Keown/ Toure when Adams retired and only a few other alterations were made to the team .

Of course it is his style of play that has won out , and his philosophy now produces young talent .

But for years he had George Grahams defense and Bruce Rioch's signing of Dennis Bergkamp to mould a new team from .

RE: ther is big disputes going on,

1-I think henry is saying he going to stick with roy,
2-Americans won't be held to ransom by fans.
3-Stability

I thought we where going to get battered at Chelsea and it would all be over for Roy Hodgson. But he won and we carry on. droped points at wigan, stoke.

West-ham will be a easy win>
Tottenham -Lose

I want a technical coach like Wenger.

1-Come in- build a preimership winning starting 11.
2-Start cherry picking youth from around the world.
3-Setup Scoutin + Youth
4-Build Stanley Park

That is a 10 year business plan. That will require outlay for 6 World-Class players to begin with. The Squad needs 6 great players or risk losing Torres, Gerrard, Renia, Johnson, Kuyt

Arsenal setup > i remember wenger coming into arsenal and buying Veria, Petit Overmas, Anelka

Arsenal had a good backline, and had Bergkamp + Wright

He built the team a midfield. He didn't sit back a poke a sick at a dead rat hoping for a miracle.

He Spent Money on good players.

He has been very clever spending money in the following years, opting to cherry pick the best youth from around the world.

But in Wengers time, he built 3 , 4 great teams before he changed tactics and started going towards younger players.

Another thing to note is 'what has Arsenal won with his young team'?. They needed to go young because of new stadium and whilst they play eye catching football, there team has protential but only potential. Sometimes protential doesn't blossom to success.
Liverpool are following Arsenal but with no garrauntee of success. Plus our manager and scouts arnt as good as Arsenals for spotting talent

Hi ed is it just me or do you think everyone seems to be forgetting we have 11 players on the pitch yes woys tactics are frustrating but our players are not playing for the shirt if there are players that want to leave let them we need a strong team morale to get anywhere last season it was rafas fault and the owners. now its woys! seems to me the problem is over paid and pamperd players think they can coast through matches what happend giving blood sweat and tears just to get on to the anfield pitch? Our players need reminded the club will always be there and if they don't pull there socks up they won't be! FACT!
seandaleer YNWA {ed's note - I do agree that there is a problem with player power at the club, but the right manager would sort that out.}

Due to injurys last season, anything below 7th would be embarrassing to our club. I think 7th in flipping embarrassing consider how much our team is worth. Do you think Roy will beat 7th? They way we are playing is just shocking and doesn't fill me with confidence
