Pep segura as quit Liverpool

Very bad news. Anyone that knows the youth system will realise how much of a loss this is.

Any chance of a last minute bid to sign Ramirez?

17 Aug 2012 22:13:10
It looks more and more likely that Dempsey will sign for Liverpool, and Sahin goes to Arsenal. Unless Adam and Spearing are both offloaded, I don't see us getting Sahin as well as Dempsey.

17 Aug 2012 22:00:35
Anyone read what Ramirez said about how rich he's going to be? So so glad we didn't go in for him, he is totally about the money.

He's going to be on around 40k per week according to my mate. I highly doubt this though to be honest more like 80+
Scouse_Pride {Ed001's Note - Southampton will not pay him that much, they have players on a 'match highest earner clause' already at the club. Ramirez has been offered about 30k a week plus bonuses.}

Made up quote on Twitter, He didnt say that

This may be unpopular with many, I hope the Sahin deal falls through. You'll all remember Rodgers' response when first courted by LFC: either I'm first choice or no choice at all.

I was greatly impressed by this attitude. I hoped that it would be our general approach.
Only those players who put LFC first, were happy and wanted to come to us should be looked at.

This immediately rules out Sahin. It's been quite clear for a while that deep down Anfield's not the place he'd rather be. Whilst not specifically clear where Sahin wants to go, it's plain obvious where he doesn't want to go.
If he ends up here, I highly doubt it would be of nothing but his own will.

And therein lies the problem. No player should come to LFC by force/no choice. We shouldn't allow that.
If the boy prefers Arsenal, as it seems, let him get his move. And don't hate him for it.

He's a remarkable footballer I'd love to see wearing our red, but not at all cost.
As Brendan's always stressed, we need players who are in it for the love and want of it. We need players who are 100% committed to the cause, in body, mind and soul.

Sahin's not such player, and duly, mustn't board the ship.
And I don't blame him for anything. I'd hope fans too respect his choice.

Ed002 considering what Rodgers previously said about focusing only on those players who want to be at LFC, do you see us pulling out of Sahin deal, as we did Gylfi?
Thanks

WILLIE {Ed002's Note - I think Sahin is thinking about his options, but a good one would be Liverpool.}

I think this is a very hounarble post. If sahin was to go to arsenal it would only be because of champions league football. He's not saying arsenal is better than Liverpool or vice versa. Plus arsenal wanted him before he went to Madrid so interest has been there for a while. But personally he will be alot more involved of he went to Liverpool. I think a special thing is happening to a club that's been hurt. Time for our recovery

He is thinking plus he has an international to focus on, even though it was only a friendly. he could use that as a good excuse to think things over.

at the end of it all it comes down to, if he wants a career at Real then he will choose us...

Personally I think nobody really knows what's holding it up. Everyone is jumping to conclusion by what they've read. Just wait and see.the people who are giving the timeline are either making it up or giving an estimate.

Estimates are generally shortened and used to keep people interested h

Whats the latest on PepeCam ed?
My mate rang and said Jose had to chase Sparky as there was a labradoodle off leash that he had taken a shine too. What happened?{Ed002's Note - You need to be Sparky's friend to be real cool @WonderDogSparky }

I guess i'm just too cool for sparky

I posted this earlier and it ended up on the Teams page, so It could hardly start a discussion over there. I've taken the team line up out so if you want to see it head onto the teams page.

So yeah! have a good weekend.

"Hi guys!

Obviously you've all heard the news about RVP and if he stays fit I'm sure he and Rooney will be terrific together.

However, United isn't what I want to talk about, I want to talk about a few things Liverpool..

Firstly, reading about the great Xabi Alonso he isn't signing a new deal at Madrid, now I'm not sure when his deal is up but are you guys hyping up the possibility of a return to the club that made him? would you like to see a past his best but still influential Alonso back at Liverpool over the next couple of years? OR do you think that he won't come back to Liverpool because maybe he wants to try Italy or even perhaps the MLS?

Secondly, it's a shame hearing about Ramirez pretty much a Southampton player but I don't really think it's that much of a big deal. I haven't seen him play much but the fact that only yourselves, Wolfsburg & Southampton were the only clubs with 'real' intent to sign him sort of says a lot about how the bigger clubs see his ability...1 season doesn't make a player.

Although I don't see Liverpool as a title threat for next season I do think you'll improve hugely, although in my honest opinion a lots depends on Spurs, if AVB can do what we all know he can do then I think they'll get 4th but if as i Expect they'll fall short of expectations due to things like a lack of forwards and a weak defense then I think you will get 4th.

Newcastle for me overachieved and I can't see them doing the same again next year.

I don't read many Liverpool related stories but looking at the system BR likes to play I can really see two formations for you guys next season, both will be used within the game..

4-3-3 when attacking - posted on the teams page, with the same post as this.

However, when you lot are on the back foot I can see the wingers pushing deep to fit into a tight compact 4-1-4-1 styled formation with Lucas sitting deepest and the other 5 although crowding the midfield area will be ready to counter as soon as you regain possession of the ball.

There are a couple of other things I want to mention and ask your views on.

I think that with Allen, Lucas and Gerrard in CM you've got a talented midfield who can keep the ball well. I'm not sure about Lucas but I know that Gerrard and especially Allen can hit top quality, long range passes to your wide men when attack so I think that midfield will determine whether or not you're successful this season.

as for the other winger spot in the squad, I think you'll either leave and simply play Suarez out wide with Carroll in the middle..if any of the last few months of last season are to go by as he seems to be improving with his feet.

However I really believe that you've got something up your sleeve and possibly Scott Sinclair is on his way, it's up for debate what with BR after ANOTHER Swansea player but if he's leaving anyway I don't see what the issue would be.

I look at your first XI and I see a REALLY good side, however what I don't see is much depth and if you do get found out this season that will be where it is, what happens if you lose Skrtel for a few months? Carragher is hardly the player he was and Kelly isn't yet the standard of Skrtel, what happens if you lose Allen or more likely Gerrard? Henderson isn't anywhere the standards of those two just yet.

You've got a squad with a good few numbers but those 'squaddies' aren't in the same book letalone the same page as the quality in your starting XI.

I mean, firstly lets talk Henderson, Personally I think he'll turn out just like Carrick, he won't be a world beater...he'll get slated by your own and rival fans as being rubbish although in actual fact in the future he'll be pulling the strings for you guys. he does have promise but lets not kid ourselves and put him on a level with Wilshere for example. that would be like comparing Carrick and the Gerrard of 2005.

I also think Spearing is just terrible, if you a as a club want to move forward then he has to go at some point, I see him as Liverpools Gibson haha. good lad, works hard but just doesn't have the ability to play at the highest level in football.

Shelvey on the otherhand, his development may have stalled a little but I think he'll turn into a very good player, I can't say I know tons about him but I know when I see a good player with bags of potential. In fact he's one of few of your squaddies who would probably do a fantastic job when called upon.

Now, we have the gem, Raheem Sterling - I am 100% confident that what you have in him is what we had in Morrison ability wise. now if any of you are too bitter and hate filled to recognize what a talent Morrison was then fair enough, but he was an incredible player for his age and even at what, 17? I can see Sterling pushing for a first team place within the next 2 years, easily.

The last thing I want to talk about is Reina...the last 2 years he's had his worst form for you, he's still a brilliant keeper and having him between the sticks is obviously a huge assurance for your back 4. However, it looks as if he's starting to decline slightly (which is weird when you consider how young he is), so I have a question, if somebody offered you £10-£15 Million for him would you accept it? (bearing in mid that is quite a lot for a keeper), from an outside point of view I would strongly consider it, especially with talents like Ahamada, Handanovic, Ter-Stegen, Asenjo, Ujkani, etc. all gettable for as little as £5 Million - while also looking as good as some of the EPL's best keepers at young ages (bar Handanovic) seems like a good bit of a business.

So, would you cash in on Reina if it meant bringing a top young goalkeeper, especially somebody like Ahamada to the EPL instead, or do you think his recent form has been a blip and he's worth keeping?

Thanks for your time guys! and lest have a sensible discussion instead of the usually hate between United and Liverpool.

The Moon."

Alonso, no , we need to move on and play younger players with more pace as well as passing abilty- joe allen - lucas - suso , big andy will leave , good player , but not mobile enough for what br likes, shelvey will be a top player, but needs to use more sense in his tackling , or we will see him get a couple of red cards in his first full season, reina will pick his game up hopfully , but will be replaced if needed , agger would be a blow if he leaves as hes that good, but moon rogers is trying to replace and has replaced older players, for younger ones with pace , and who fit in to his high work-rate of closing down the ball when we dont have it,so expect us to be better , but it will take this jan, and next summer for br to get his team really together for a title tilt, hate to say it but i think utd will maybe get the prem this year as saf has rvp on board , for a couple of seasons he will be great for you, but after that not so much, but i think saf will step down soon moon , so its a great signing for him , before he calls it a day, all the best mate, for yourself that is , not utd lol.............lfc

Good Post

I agree with most of it although I believe we are working on adding more depth to the squad throuh Assidi and possibly Sahin. We also have players like Cole, Shelvey and Henderson who are capable of putting in a shift when called upon.
As much as I would have liked Spearing to do well purly because you can see the effort and passion that he puts in when playing however I just don't think he has what it takes to step up to become a great player to be in the first team.

You say your not sure about Lucas but I am certain that he is perfect for the Rogers system and is an absolutely fantastic player and as shown by the Fallout after his injury last season he is an integral part of Liverpools team.

Raheem Stirling will be an absolutely quality player for us in the coming seasons. His technical ability is clear to see. I never saw Morrison play so I have never judged him but heard he was a great player.

Now to Reina. I can admit that last season Reina had his dip in form which did worry me but I believe that he has the character and quality to rise from the poor performances to become the great keeper that we know he can be. His first season at Liverpool he had his dodgy moments but he was able to come out of that a better keeper so he could do it again. I would not sell him because I believe that the quality that he is capable of is still there in him.

N.I Red

Good balanced post Moon

Tend to agree with most of it Eg hendo and spearing

Hope sterling doesn't get morisons attitude
Need butland as reinas future replacement

Leam Red

Thanks for replying sensibly guys!

N.I Red - When I said I wasn't sure about Lucas I mean his passing ability, the Lucas I saw before the injury was the gritty, breaking up play Lucas and my god he done it well. I think he's an absolutely brilliant young lad so I wasn't questioning him as a player just whether he has the passing ability that he'll need if he's going to sit deep.

lfc - I agree, I'm expecting great things from RVP this season but I'm not expecting 900 goals a season haha. I think he'll get 20-25 goals and I'll be quite happy with that. do I think we'll retian the league? I'm not REALLY confident, I think it'll be a tough push but now City have a taste for it nothing is stopping them from putting in a shift and storming the league. People forget about the ACON last year which coincided with the Kompany suspension so for a month they were without both Yaya and Kompany their 2 most influencial players.

Leam Red - I don't rate Butland in the slightest, he just looks like a young Foster to me. IMO the best English keeper around is Alex Smithies, if he accepted the numerous times he could have moved to an EPL club he WOULD be the number 1. terrrific keeper.

And I really don't think Sterling will, Morrison always had his issues it just became more apparent when he started getting into trouble legally. Sterling doesn't appear that way, although you'll have to be careful he doesn't do a Pogba. something tells me that Sterling knows exactly how good he is.

Have a good opening weekend!

The Moon.

Everyone's going on about how we should have signed Ramirez instead of (probably) Southampton, but, has it ever occurred to anyone that we don't actually want him? Just a thought.

We are paying the price for our ridiculous overspend last year... I know it's all ifs, buts and maybes, but if we only had the amount of cash that we squandered last year, I'd have far more faith in BR spending it wisely. Rome 77

Dunno if this belongs here, but I keep reading the rumours here that the Dempsey-transfer is in limbo.. I can now honestly say that I am a LFC-fan in limbo. Since I started following The Reds mid nineties the last 24 hrs have been my most heartjostling ever. Everything has built up since Rodgers became in charge, things are starting to look hopeful again. Finally. Then we get the 99% that worldclass midfield-regent Sahin could be signing the next 24, 48, or 72 hrs, I dunno cause I honestly have lost track of time....
Then the Sigurdsson saga is over us again, but now it is Arsenal. Hijacking, it is a terrible word..
With the Icelander it was totally ok with me, but now, for some reason this saga is breaking my heart.
And the Premiership kicks off tomorrow, and I really don't know if I can take it! :)

So now it is time for all the Red Fans to buckle up I guess and brace ourselves for the next 24, 48, or 72 hrs, cause it is still a long loooong time until the 31st of August.

Sahin or not, Dempsey or not, in Rodgers we trust. I think next season will be the start of a new era even as clichè that sounds

Well that came out of nowhere eh? The way it should be. Top marks to BR for pulling this sneaky move out the bag. Let's hope the lad is as good as he looks in the videos! Whilst I admit I have never heard of this guy, I love how quiet it was all kept.

Ive seen a few people kicking off about him being a no name, but these people would also have said the same had we signed Suarez from Groningen before he moved to Ajax.

Someone on here posted yesterday that we may have unearthed a hidden gem and snapped him up before he moves to a bigger club thus boosting his price tag and I agree. Hopefully this will prove to be a very shrewd piece o business.

Also love this that the Morroco coach said to Taarabt...

'Watch (Assaidi) and you'll figure why you're not in the team.'

Good luck Oussama. YNWA

This one goes out to all fellow Kopites and EDS regarding clint Dempsey. It looks like the player is trying to force his way out of his Fulham contract to get his move to LFC. Now just to remind you all that a certain cretin by the name of fernando Torrres done exactley the same to us. This led to him being slated by our fans for being disloyal. Now we are willing to except a player from another club who behaves in exactley the same way yet we will welcome him with open arms. Pot & kettle spring to mind. Just my thoughts on the subject and somthing that gets on my goat.

Elmo96

I am with you, I hate to see any player doing this and especially one who is (hopefully) coming to us. However, this says more about where football in general is- think about how many players have done this - it is a sad reflection of the game that we can't stop loving.

Completely agree. Contracts mean nothing these days. The only plus from Fulhams point of view is that it isn't the last day of the window but personally I wouldnt be too happy with Clint. One great season and he could do the same to us if Barca came calling (remember Mascherano)

cozinoz

Big difference is Fulham still have 2 weeks (and Dempsey wanting to leave is not exactly news) to find a replacement.

If Torres had given us the better part of a month to locate a replacement, I suspect we'd maybe have been disappointed but a lot less angry about his leaving.

It hink you will find dempsey is in his last years contract ,,,,was torres i dont think so
this makes a huge difference
red simmo

Will I accept him?...ask me at the end of the season, the way I see it if he scores 20 goals by then I wont have an issue lol

Bazingaa

Clint Dempsey has made it clear he wanted to leave fulham a long time ago. Ever since arsenal and Liverpool started becoming interested. Liverpool's arch rivals are Chelsea, fulham is hardly a rival to Liverpool. Torres moved to Chelsea after he made it clear months before he wanted to stay and that hes teaching his daughted scouce...Dempsey never said anything remotely similar. Get your facts straight

Can anyone confirm that you pronounce our new signing' name as if separately saying the letters S I E D

ASSA IDI (you pronounce the IDI more like EDE).

17 Aug 2012 19:17:32
i love this site and spend most of my life on it but i would just like to air a few grievences i have with it.

firstly when we sign a new player we are inundated with thousands of posts saying we have signed him, seeing as its on the official site and plastered all over bbc and sky there is no need for this

whenever the liverpool site goes down for maintenence this does not mean we are about to sign a player so big it has crashed the website the website didnt go down before borini allen or assaidi signed and it wont whenever future signings come.

people who have a go about jokes examples are ken aguero and pepecam i for one really enjoy them and hope they continue.

badmouthing the eds and Macca when they both do great jobs, no doubt Macca will get grief for not calling assaidi but literally noone knew about it

other than that i love this site, less of the doom and gloom lets just be excited for the season it wont be as bad as last time and i'm genuinly very optimistic we can get in the top four, bring it on!

Big Dan

17 Aug 2012 17:52:46
So Southampton are about to sign Ramirez for a measley 11.8 million. I have to admit I'm stunned we are not interested in him for that price. Surely that was a fee the club could afford.

I know we have Downing and now Assiadi, but he can play a number of positions and is still young. I know people are gonna say stop harping on about Ramirez, but I think we missed out and a talent at a low price.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be doom and gloom I'm happy with the managerial appointment and I'm happy with the business we have concluded so far.

Ed can you shed any light as to whether we did actually have an interest?

Jonesred

Just let it go!!

Saint deal is off, the bid was never accepted by bologna. Check it out

17 Aug 2012 20:40:03
dempsey deal not a runner. dont ever think that he was really a serious target. is possibly a smoke screen. no bid even made yet according to jol. his age appears to be contrary to the policy of buying youth. so who is his alternative i ask? as carroll looks like moving on, we will require a replacement and dempsey will not be it. another reason why i dont believe in the dempsey deal, is that he could well only be back up to suarez at CF. dont think he would move for back up status (i do recognise that he can play as winger/L/R forward also but dont think he has the pace rodge craves in these positions)

So we Have Let 5 senior players Go
and brought in 3 the season starts tomorrow
I'd have to say are squad is weaker , no Kuyt , Bellemy , Maxi - Aqualinai , and Aurilio ( I except those 2 didn't really feature )

with players we had lasts eason we needed at least 3 quality players adding to the squad

so now we are 2 Lighter and still no proven Winger or out and out finisher

Thought's

K.O.B

The squad average is higher. That is what counts.

If you think it is weaker then you seriously have no clue

I would have to disagree, but it's an opinion game and yours is as valid as mine. As you say, Aurelio and Aqualani are irrelevant to the conversation as neither was exactly, well, relevant. As much as I like Kuyt, Maxi, and Bellamy, I think (although maybe not a like for like) Allen, Borini, and Assaidi are improvements as can be seen by the fact that I think Allen and Borini may be starters for us while I wouldn't necessarily say that Maxi, Kuyt, or Bellamy were viewed as such. Allen is probably better with the ball than any of the three and I think Borini and Assaidi are both more energetic/creative than either Kuyt or Maxi.

Time will tell, but I don't see us as weaker at all.

RDL

Mate we never played aqualani or aurelio last season. Maxi and kuyt hardly ever played let alone started and would only come on as subs. Bellamy hardly ever featured as well. Our starting line up was a big problem last season because it was shocking. Now our starting line ups are much better. Last season we played Carroll, downing, Henderson, Adam, spearing all in the same team...all the flops started. Now that won't be the case

All fair points I agree Startling 11 looks good but my point is we still lack depth if we get injurys , we needed at least 3 more quality players suhj as Maxi , Kuyt , Bellemy on bench that's what worries me

Lfc im sure are explaining a no atmosphere Emirates and previously Highbury are no match for Anfield and one hopefully to be extended, to Sahin

17 Aug 2012 20:01:40
Is Nuri Sahin slipping away from us? I hope not, though I still think Sahin and Dempsey will sign with Adam going to Everton. That would wrap up a pretty good summer.

17 Aug 2012 19:52:13
With Sahin and Tello deals very much up in the air, perhaps we should just cut our losses on both of them. I would much prefer somebody who wants to wear the red shirt with pride rather than some 'they'll do" merchant.

Anyone see on the lfc website, The 10 facts about Assaidi.

9. His FIFA 2012 profile gives him 91/100 for acceleration, 90/100 for agility and 86/100 dribbling. The area he needs to work on - if the football console is to be believed - is slide tackling, at which they rate him 24/100.

What sort of fools do we have running this website, How embarrassing is it for us to use his bloody fifa stats. Laughing stock yet again

I would hardly say this one article , which has probably not been read by many people other than liverpool supporters, has made us a laughing stock.

Oh shush you miserable person, it's just a fun fact!
Cal

Oh relax, it was funny...it wasn't meant to be taken seriously...lighten up man the season starts tomorrow

The game stats are taken from real stats and put into the form shown on the game. It's not like it's all fantasy. And our website did say if those stats are to be believed

Judging by the majourity on this site thats how the world works now!

It was number 9 out of 10 facts that was done just for fun.......laughing stock?..............Get a life!

It is the future of the world basing real life on computer games, it invites the next generation of fans into our club. It does how ever show how incompetent whoever wrote this is because FIFA scores out of 99 and not 100.

To the tune of OB-LA-DI OB-LA-DA:

Assaidi Assaida goals go on
oh oh oh goals go on
Assaidi Assaida goals go on
oh oh oh goals go on
Rogers had a dally in the market place
Oussi's now the new one in the band
Rogers says to Oussi man I like your pace
and Oussi says this as he shakes him by the hand
Assaidi Assaida goals go on oh
oh oh oh goals go on
Assaidi Assaida goals go on oh
oh oh og goals go on

Suarez in from Oussi and he's going to score
love it when he kisses that wedding ring
Suares says to Oussi lets go bag some more
and as they do it then the kop begins to sing
Assaidi Assaida goals go on oh
oh oh goals go on.....

What.... It just never made sense bro

Three is the magic number. Would like three players signing new contracts - Agger, Skrtel and Suso. Would like three in Dempsey , Sahin (loan) and Reina's ex-goalkeeping coach (can't remember name). Would like three sold Adam, Carroll and Cole. Also three on loan Spearing , Suso and Wilson. Tomorrow we will win 3-0 and we will finish 3(rd) in the league. Redevon

Would be nice lol

17 Aug 2012 19:34:49
Is it true there were other clubs interested in you?

Yes. I had offers from Galatasaray, Spartak Moscow and Ajax - but as I said before, I had a good feeling after speaking with the coach. When Liverpool come to you and say they want you, you never say no to this big club. I am very happy to be here. I signed today for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

17 Aug 2012 19:26:40
So Brendan has his plan B, If we are struggling we can always go to a formation of Assaidi, and Boroni on the wings and Carroll up top, not bad I think!!

I had a feeling that sahin deal would have some obstacles....would prefer sahin signing over any other signing.....he is class..... midflied trio of Lucas, Sahin and Allen would be amazing and attacking trio of Suarez, Borini and Gerrard

Exactly mate.......

Dempsey would be signing of the season **** rvp lets hope we get him could get a top 4 finish with him in the side

Just been having a look at Assaidi on YouTube. Now, I know you cant really get an accurate reading of a player just from these clips, as they only showcase their good bits in their career; but for £3 million, I think this guy is an absolute steal. We've been screaming for a player like him for a long while now, his pace is immense, he's a good tricky player, and will give opposition defenders a headache. I reckon he's going to be a pretty exciting addition to the squad.

I wonder if these "fans" will eat their words if he turns out to be a star?

I have supported him from the get go and have jus purchased the new third kit shirt with him on the back hope he can make this number 11 his own.

Not bad on video is he,looks intresting plus at 24 i dont think he has been bought as reserve player and rodgers seems to know what is needed so this lad apart for the youtube vids must have something genuine going for him like i do not think he will be another aqualani for example.so i'm feeling good about this player.so tottaly agree with the original post.i too am also looking forward to this season.come on tha pool.kyb.

Hi Everyone,

I have never been to a match before and am looking into going to one over the next few months.

Could anyone please guide me as to how to get them?? I am not a member of anything etc.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Jamie

You will have to buy a fan card and keep a look out on the LFC website for tickets available on general sale for some of the lesser competitions , such as the League Cup and Europa League group stage games . The tickets can then be purchased online using your fancard and bank card and sent to you before the day of the game . The more games you attend per competition the more priority the club reserves for you to buy tickets for the latter stages of each competition .

TheScarf

Good luck with that one, any tickets left for home games in the first half of the season will go to a general sale and will be extremely limited, check out lfc website and look at ticket news and you'll see general sale info as to when it is or if it's forthcoming or if a games totally sold out,

Hi mate ive just bought 3 tickets for the hearts game. Go on the Liverpool website and it's all explained on there. It's tough to get tickets for a league match but not impossible. The best option are the euro games at the moment. Hope this helps.

Sorry I meant how to get Tickets

18 Aug 2012 13:39:11
Very difficult if you're not a member. They are sold in batches. Your best bet now would be to look at someone like @LFCFACEVALUE on twitter. Help fans to sell on and buy but have to ensure they're face value sales and they also blacklist anyone who doesn't turn up. Most will sort tickets before the games though, I have sold after using them before. Hope this helps.

Gaston Ramirez has signed for Southhampton LOL! How?

SHUT UP!! SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!! How many people are going to tell us Ramirez has signed for Southampton? We are not stupid, we do not need to be told 3000 times! Can we please just move on now? All I have been reading today is 'Ramirez has signed for Southampton, who would have guessed?' Well I did, because I can read.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

With a pen, I would imagine.

They're paying him an obscene amount of money.

Sooty {Ed001's Note - 30k a week is the deal, though the signing bonus will be significant I am sure.}

Why the hell aint we going for the Gaston Ramirez of bologna and Kevin Mirallas both proven players.
Pretty sad day why the likes of southampton and Everton can
bid for them and we let them slip
We need to sort this out and get a better depth to the squad or we will be worse off than last year.

go get the
Theo Walcott
Jack Butland
Kevin Mirallas
Gaston Ramirez
Ibrahim Afellay's
and make Liverpool fc a team that can force top 4 again

Why have they proven exactly?

No disrespect to Southampton (but some to Everton) but perhaps the fact they have ended up at these teams shows that BR doesn't think they are good enough/worth the fee/wages.

davethebutcher

People like you are so boring on this website, every single player that signs for any team except for us and you go banana's about it and demand an explantion as to why,

whilst the olympics were happening nobody wanted ramirez, now another team has signed him were going to get relegated, if we don't sign a player 9 times out of 10 you'd imagine we don't want them,

And if we dont then it doesnt matter we could just be a pompy and overextend our finances. not like anything bad happened there because of it.

If u think that the list of players u have just presented will make Liverpool a force again then ur clearly mistaken. Now if you would have give a list with the likes of van persie(pre his old toilet move), cavani, hulk, falcao, moura then u might have had a point.

Worst post of the day contender..

If you sign to many mercenaries it can disrupt the squad. I would rather have players who play for the badge rather than the pay check any day.

I am also sick to death of people saying that the club was bought by FSG for a song. Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee bought the club for about £220mn in 2007, a club that was about to contest the send of Champions League Finals in 3 years. (The deal was reported to be worth in the region of £435 million: £220 million to buy out existing shareholders (including approximately £44.8 million of debt), and £215 million for the new stadium which never happened). It was sold for £350mn during an economic meltdown and at a time were there was no Champions League revenue.

These guys at FSG seem fairly savvy. They made their cash through making shrewd investments. Not through asset stripping leverage buyouts aka Hicks and Gillet. Liverpool is not a rich man's play thing and they will want a return on investment - but they will equally know that the increase in commercial revenues that the club has recently enjoyed will not be sustainable without success on the pitch. Sponsors will want to associate themselves with winners with big fan bases and we will only retain a big fan base with success. These are pivotal times for the club. The club cannot afford to continue spending massive sums on unproven or put average players on huge wages. £18mn last year on Henderson was eye-watering, even if he turns out to be a decent player. So we have to improve our scouting and start unearthing some diamonds like Arsenal have done for years and Newcastle have more recently. We do not have the spending power that United, Chelski or Citeh (not yet anyway) and need to be a bit more prudent.

So far I have been impressed with the changes in the background re the new scouting systems and BR seems to say the right things. Very impressed with the way he has handled the Agger affair. Aggaer stalls on a new contract and the boss says everyone has his price before saying he wants to keep Agger. In other words - Agger, sign the new contract or go for the most we can get for you.

rant over. Scouser Tommy

Can I suggest that anyone who says that we should be spending multi millions on everyone and his dog get a grip and join the rest of us in the real world.

Post of the week

Tommy well said, Brendan seems to know shrewd business Assaidi for under 3m and a full Italy international striker for under 10m. Okay we paid 15m for Allen but that is still not overly inflated for a PL teams star midfielder (Sinlair is not a midfielder). FSG are also still restructuring the wage bill inherited from H&G which was an absolute piss take (Aquilani, Jovanovic, Poulsen and so on). With The new Anfield project we will be able to generate additional funds for players but winning is where the big money lies as you said. I feel that if we do get Sahin we will be as strong as 2007 and that will give us good foundations to regain the Champion's League place required to attract star players.

17 Aug 2012 18:41:08
Just reading the Assaidi interview on , he says his preffered position is on the left or behind the striker in the number 10 position. Do you guys think this might spell the end for Downing or does BR see Downing's future on the right in the Adam Johnson position and cutting in on his left? If so surely that would mean there would be no interest in Johnson then or Walcott? as the right hand side would be sorted? Just a thought.

Rik int Wirral

I was wonering the same thing bu going bu the games weve already played, it seems BR likes his inverted wingers/forwards so I would say Downing will be on the right and Assaidi on the left.

davethebutcher

Surely that would end the spell of joe coe as they are the two posistions he plays according to your theory. Downing plays on the left or right as an out and out winger. Downing is not going any where.

Downing prefers the right yes. however it doesn't stop interest in other right-sided players as he is truly awful. answered your question?

Absolutely Rik, i think your bang on.The spending's done for the time being,Downing on the right Assiaidi on the left.!! B

I never thought about the implications for Joe Cole, I agree with that one. I think one of the things BR has done with implementing his 4-3-3 system is utilise players with versatlity. If we are to play this system for the season then there are no "wingers" as such meaning the front 3 have more of a roaming role. with Cole, Downing, Sterling, Borini, Suarez, Assaidi and Carroll ( to some extent ) I think we have a versatile front line up that can all link up well. Things in theory seem well but in practise we will see. Liverpool have always been the most consistent inconsistent team over the last few years. LOL

in my opinion i think sahin will go to arsenal , if he wanted to join us it would have been done and dusted already but instead he's still deciding , its the sigursson saga all over again , we shouldn't care if he signs or not , for me personally i'm not reading much into it because i was looking forward to sig signing for us instead he went to another club and i'm not getting fooled around again !!!

This just becoz we dont have the money..and wen we haad..we wasted wasted and wasted by KK...
cant see KK having a good sleep seeing BR struggling for money

"ED's I actually hope that KD will still be in charge of LFC next season as does most Evertonians... Utd fans...et al imho...

The current feeling (general consensus) throughout the non LFC fans I speak with
is KD is well and truly past his sell/use by date.
My own nightmare scenario is that you lot get as a replacement like Jose or at least someone who has more of a feel for the modern game.

I really hope we snap Dempsey up!
I think he'd be a great addition to the squad.
He's an all round top player. Strong, quick, skillful, decent in the air and can finish.
Will give us options aswell.

100% true! Why the club arent meeting there asking price is obsered

17 Aug 2012 18:25:31
Still confused about the whole Ramirez situation...surely we can afford £12mil and better the wages of Southampton. Fair enough he would choose saints if we haven't made an offer...but if we did? Why saints over us? And if we didn't...why didnt we? He's class

Wild guess- our management doesn't rate him as highly on many here do, or at least not within the context of how they envision the team coming together.

How do u know he's class and if he's that good why aren't the cream of Europe after him? Just a typical modern day fan who sees players on YouTube and thinks its enough to convince everyone that they are the next messi.

Has it ever dawned on you that we weren't interested in him to start with and it was all media hype?

He's lazy and over-rated thats why. Has it not made you think why the only two clubs in Europe to make him an official offer were Wolfsburg and Southampton?! {Ed001's Note - Napoli were in for him too.}

17 Aug 2012 18:05:44
In terms of his style, Assaidi reminds me of Alexis Sanchez. A one-time winger, converted to play in a front three. Similar touch, balance and dribbling ability.

On the clips of him, he seems a little raw in terms of his decision-making, but he clearly has a lot of ability.

Playing with Gerrard, Suarez etc should help him polish those rough edges.

£3m is peanuts these days. I'm very excited about seeing him in action.

If he 'flops' - no real harm done. If he contributes well as a squad player, without setting the world alight - great.

But if he ends up playing a few blinders, we could have a real gem on our hands - potentially a £15-20m rated player.

Glad to see this approach. Good luck to the three new lads. All young and with a lot of potential.

Delighted.

BJH YNWA

17 Aug 2012 17:59:11
Lets not forget br said 1 or 2 players in the next 48 hours thats been 24 so saying sahin deal is off is premature. We say we have no money listen we have spent 28 million pounds, more than what hicks and gillet gave us. Maybe not the 70m last year but its not nothing either. Borini 11m that could have been ramirez so no use saying ohh no money brendan obviously wanted borini more. So this no money is rubbish some people forget 2-3 years ago so quick

17 Aug 2012 17:58:31
12 months ago...Why do liverpool pay a fortune for overated average players? Why cant we do it like teams like newcastle and arsenal and find hidden gems that only cost a few million and low risk?

Fast forward to this transfer window....who the hell is Oussama Assaidi.cant believe we bought this guy,who is he? why have we bought him when we could of spent 12mill on johnson or ramirez etc?

3 million not 12 for an international player, how can you comment on this player before you have ever seen him play, do you think you are a better judge of a player than Rogers if so did you apply for the job.

Not commenting on the players ability.infact i havent got a clue about him.
just trying to point out that were not rolling in money and these kind of deals are surely the best way to go.just fed up with all the moaning on here.we spent big money last year on internationals.have they been that good?

If sahin wants to go to arsenal then let him. Wouldn't get in our side anyways. Screw him
Tommy.

Hey Tommy, want your dummy back? Lets wait and see what happens, champ. Why have a go when nothing has been decided as yet? Chill Winston.

Andy K

Listen mate as u say if he wants to join arsenal then let him it's his choice and he doesnt owe us anything but by saying he wouldnt get in our side ur making urself look very silly, he is absolute quality and whoever gets him there gonna have some player on there hands. Fingers crossed its us but if not then we will move on its not the end of the world.

RedAnt

Is this meant to be sarcastic? because sahin is amazing and should defo get in the lfc side..

17 Aug 2012 17:51:27
If we are prepared to pay in excess of 8 million for a 29 year old attacking player in Dempsey why can't we pay a bit more for a player 8 years younger and with great potential in Ramirez?!

Obviously Dempsey is better for us now...
TT

Dempsey is a proven goalscorer in the pl. Ramirez is a gamble. I would go for Dempsey.

Cos we didn't want him? Do you honestly think that Mr Ramirez had the pick of teams such as Liverpool, Inter Milan, Man Citeh and Spurs and said "You know what I really want - to move to a newly promoted club on the south coast of England. Yes. That's the ideal move for me." No. He did not. The offers clearly weren't there - no disrespect to Southampton, but clearly when it came down to it, neither BR nor the others really wanted him. Maybe he'll prove them all wrong - who knows. But please stop with this "Oh we can't afford him/why did n't we get him instead of such-and-such" malarkey. We did not want him. Simple as. Rant over.

Please stop this, it's done

Square tomato

One word, EXPERIENCE. We have bought in three young players and our attacking options are relatively new to EPL (Stevie aside) so a bit of Premier League know how is a smart move.

Kevin mirallas..for 6 mill
28 goals in 45 appearence..
common..wether u are in a 3rd division football still this ratio is of a quality player........

Let it go!! He ain't that great!

I wish all transfers were just like Assaidi's. It really was a breath of fresh air.

Would love Sahin, but I really am done with getting my hopes up from ITK's and press.

What will be will be.

If Arsenal get him fair play.
If we get him, would be delighted.

But I'm still very happy with our midfield.
and very optimistic for the upcoming season.

Hoping we get a bit of luck from the woodwork this season.

Vitally if the stars can remain injury free. Think we could grab a CL place.

Great site read it every day

What's happening with this STAR loan signing??
Personally tello, sahin affelay- either of these targets are not our so called STAR loan signing. IMO theses are not stars, these would be great addition to lfc but surely everyone would not say these are stars?

KjRED

It's that not so well known cliche "one mans star is someone else's Ryan babel

IMO you are a STAR imbecile. Sahin would be a wonderful signing if we could get him.

Would Messi count as a STAR signing to you or is he still not good enough?

In comparison to what Liverpool have now, Sahin is definately a 'STAR' as you say. Tello and Affellay...not so much.

MPez

I dont think Liverpool should be signing players for the sake of it. We have bought Assaidi, which rules out Tello, and are looking to get someone else in. Didnt Brendan say that the funds were limited this Window?

Be Patient.

Piledriver

How can you not consider Sahin a star? He won the best player in Germany award before moving to Real Madrid. He is class and would be a great addition.

17 Aug 2012 17:29:44
Where did that come from? Iv not been on as much for a few days but iv heard nothing of Assaidi coming in, im happy just seems out of the blue, we usually hear the odd titbit towards a transfer on here or have i simply missed it? Have others seen it coming?

Anfield Andy

Andy £35m asking that ?

17 Aug 2012 17:28:05
Song leaving Arsenal...my money would be on Sahin going to them now which is a real shame for us.

If we had the cash could you see us doing a deal for Ramirez now that Southampton have figured out it'll only take about £12million to get him. Or, is he just not that good and we're not interested?

-Shane.

17 Aug 2012 17:23:20
Sahin not coming to LFC. He wants to go to the Arse bandits instead. Lets face it, he'd have been here by now if he was coming to us

I suppose am gutted though...

Read Maiseys post for the reason he hasn't signed cos that is the exact reason I had heard elsewhere. It's to do with his family whereas he wants the lfc move.

Roughly £2.4M payed (eds correct me if I'm wrong)

17 Aug 2012 17:00:05
Right, here's some real info. Southampton have signed Gaston Ramirez for €15m(confirmed on ESPNsoccernet). That's very cheap imo. We definitely should have gone for him. United have signed RVP for £24m. But my question to the eds is: are we still going to get Sahin? I read in this website that Ian Ayre had gone to Spain to sign Sahin & Tello. Well, he's returned but there's no Sahin with him. Does that mean we're not getting him? I'd be disappointed if we don't get him. Really like that player.

THE SUMON VAI

Sumon Gai the deal not done yet. there is only one offer in market fro ramirez now and that is from southampton. Bologna try to use news and make money but not much club run for him.

Hi. Eds this post is not true. I've just looked on espn soccernet and their president has said the deal has not been done and they still want £20 mil. Have a look yourself. Deejay.

Ayre went to Spain, and then came home, what a waste of space that man is!

Hi Eds
Would it be fair to say Dempsey will be our last signing of this window. Sahin and Walcott are no go's and there's an outside chance Sinclair will sign, but I can't see anyone else coming in unless Agger and Carrol
move. we simply have no money.

Thanks

EJ

{Ed006's Note - I don't know mate. I would like to see 2 more faces.}

I hope we manage to get both Sahin and Dempsey we would have a quality squad of players then, and if Agger stays as well...

What makes you think Sahin's a no-go?

17 Aug 2012 17:04:58
Hi eds! So i think its quite clear that we have very little money which is why im amazed that we spent 15mil on another mid dont get me wrong he is a very good player but surley we need at least 2 quality attackers!if we lose luis or steve 2 injury were in trouble we have not got enough quality in numbers up top and we should of spent the money in that area i think its going 2 be hard 2 get in the top 4 unless we make at least 1 top quuality forward player lets hope rodgers has something up his sleave!!

Ed with Jol today saying he is disapointed in BR's comments about Dempsey, and that they have never recieved any formal enquiry/offer from us for the player, do you still think we are seriously interested.

What says, your crystal ball?

17 Aug 2012 16:40:57
Eds, please post.

BR has been attacked by 'fans' since before he uttered his first words in the role of Liverpool manager.

The wolves circled due to a quiet start to the transfer period when the Olympics and Euros were going on and before BR had looked at the squad. BR signed Borini - a player who went to the Euros with the runners-up - and 'fans' moaned, lamenting that so-and-so was not signed and slated Borini and that BR was turning us in to a "small-time" club.

After a second quiet spell rife with rumours BR signed Allen. The wolves again came circling with their "small-club mentality" remarks.

Rodgers won his first two competative fixtures against an unknown European team who were well in to their season while our guys were far from sharp. The 'fans' complained that the victories did not live up to their aesthetic standard.

After more calm in the transfer period, BR signs a young, talented, economic and unknown player for the price we got rid of Aquilani for, yet 'fans' complain (as if they'd rather have kept Aquilani)!

Let's all remember how far we've fallen and how far we've bounced back. We are still bouncing back.

A wise man once said "The third group are the critics and you never change them ever." If we win the league the critics may celebrate (like plastic fans) but they will still sneer, mock, jeer, slate and taunt after every win, lose, draw, day off, training session and holiday.

Just read this on Liverpools website in a list of 10 facts about Oussama Assaidi...it made me think of some fans on here lol

"9. His FIFA 2012 profile gives him 91/100 for acceleration, 90/100 for agility and 86/100 dribbling. The area he needs to work on - if the football console is to be believed - is slide tackling, at which they rate him 24/100."

Lol thought the same when I read it.

To be honest I'd just be grateful to get Sahin and Dempsey now, and ensure Agger and possibly Carroll stay. If this happens I'd be satisfied come September.
Agree? Disagree?
Irishdom15

We will either have Dempsey or Carroll come september, n i really hope its dempsey we have. Carroll simply does not fit into BR's plans.
Indian Buzzer

It can't be both of them. Carroll or Dempsey.

Suarez borini downing assaidi dempsy Carroll sterling Pacheco is who we would have for the front 3 positions. That's too many players. Two have to go and that would be Carroll an Pacheco.

17 Aug 2012 16:28:15
Looks like downing will have some competition on the wings now with assaidi, jeez.
Looks like our season is all about waiting for a class playmaker in sahin and a decent winger in tello to grace our club on loan. Rodgers is waiting by the phone biting his nails, as werners words ' champions league is critical ' hang over him.
When united snatched up van persie the glory of the new signing is felt across the fans like when we splashed the cash, a few injuries however could change everything, so there's always hope.

Assaidi is the alternative to Tello, so you'll be waiting a long time! Sahin (loan, if Arsenal don't beat us to him) + Dempsey in (with Adam out) would make it an overall improvement to the squad this transfer window.
Redborderman

And carroll will still be there if and injury to suarez hits.

Dempsey fined for refusing to play tomorrow

Commitment I like, He wants the move (Jol said Clint was telling everyone that he was signing for Liverpool). Clint ain't taking no bullshee from Fulham.

I don't understand why every time a player signs we are treated to numerous pictures of them being "probed" by the resident physician. It's alright LFC, we'll take your word that they have passed their medical.

I find the pictures a little bit weird!

ForzaRed

Maybe its fsg,s new policy on medicals "while your at it check if he has any spare change on him"

Maybe they should employ a couple of nurses to divert our attention away fromthe obvious and in so doing avert any cynicism as to the relativity of what is after all meant to be a totally non sexual and non thought provoking illustration of liverpool football clubs intent.

Ed002 - do you believe that this will be the last summer of really big spending of the likes of Chelsea, City, PSG etc... the reason I ask is apart from Chelsea most clubs seem to be making a more considered approach to player signings, you could almost say they are unwilling to pay big contracts!?

YNWA jns {Ed002's Note - Chelsea had a lot of players get old and leave.}

17 Aug 2012 16:17:57
The Dempsey situation seems to be erupting. He told Jol he wants to go to Liverpool. Jol says that Liverpool has embarrassed Fulham by stating interest but not pustting in a bid. Then Dempsey refuses to play for Fulham. Then is fined for doing so.

What is your opinion Ed's do you believe that Liverpool will persue Dempsey or do you believe that the interest has been dropped recently?

Should Liverpool not be interested anymore I believe that there are a number of other potential suitors lying in wait to acquire the Americans services.

N.I Red {Ed002's Note - Sounds like Twitter.}

It was quotes from Jol himslf

The Dutch manager also intimated that it was unlikely Dempsey would ever play for Fulham again, with the club accepting he must leave.

"Clint was not involved over the last four weeks so he is not going to be in the squad," said Jol.

"He is not committed to the club. He wants to leave.

"I would like to keep him, but I think it's impossible. It's a sad and an almost embarrassing situation."

Its not twitter, jol said it in a press conference today

as i posted last night Sahin would be done today and he would be at the game on sat but im now been told this was the case but arsenal have been in the players ear and sahin wants cl football so liverpool are trying everything they can to convince the player anfield is the right place. lets hope we can pull this of but at the moment arsenal are in are way. thanks andy08

Wow i believe you.

Andy08. I know this is a rumours site but that read like an episode of eastenders fella.
How can you possibly know about anything that you just posted?
Wenger today stated that he was happy with his squad ( I laughed too ). He did not give the impression that he was gonna buy anyone else... Or did I miss something.
I can only see anyone going to Arsenal if Song goes and then maybe Sahin will be brought in.
If you are proved to be correct then I will tip my hat to ya!

Ed002, just a quick question and I'd value your opinion: with 3 new players in, some of the older and fringe players moved on, Sahin possibly going to Arsenal and Fulham playing hardball over Dempsey, do you think BR and FSG feel any great pressure to make any more signings in this window? Unless there's late movement on Agger, they'll have held onto the key players and brought others in who will suit Rodgers' style. Any thoughts appreciated.

Steve {Ed002's Note - I expect a push for Dempsey - Sahin we will see about. But I would doubt there would be a knee jerk reaction to players not arriving.}

really cant understand why people keep asking why are we trying to get sahin because we have lucas gerrard and allen. Sahin is a class act, you dont become player of the year in bundesliga and get a move to real madrid if your not.
Lucas gerrard and allen won't start every single game its impossible so who would you rather rodgers uses to rotate with those 3, sahin or spearing? if our best 11 could play every week we would have been challenging for title every year our problem is that we don't have players of the same class to bring in when we have injuries, suspensions etc. to those 11 players so getting sahin would be a masterstroke because he's better than all the backup midfielders we have (and before you start thats not me having a dig at any of the other players its just a fact).
man u already had rooney, wellbeck, hernandez, young, nani, valencia and have still added kagawa and rvp so thats 8 players for 4 attacking positions but you lot are moaning coz we are trying to get 1 more top player for a cm position because we already have 3. its a squad game, if gerrard gets injured we cant just turn the computer off and back on and have him back to full fitness

I'll be gutted if we lose out on sahin, i also love the fact that these are the types of players that rodgers is at least trying to get in even if we do miss out in the end

I also really rate Sahin (brilliant player). If he doesn't come though It won't be the end of the world as Suso is almost ready to step into the odd game for the first team. So what might be initially a disappointment might turn into a blessing in the future.

So you wouldnt take him

Dont know much about Sahin so been watching some highlights on youtube. Definitely a good player, but like the previous poster I think Suso is just as capable a player and worth giving him the opportunity

Borini/Guidetti
Assaidi/Sterling - Suarez/Downing
Allen/Sahin - Gerrard/Shelvey
Lucas/Henderson
Enrique/Robinson - Johnson/Kelly
Agger/Coates - Skrtel/Carragher
Reina/Jones

Would hardly describe Coates as a waste.
Kalou was a free, we probably didn't want him that much.
You have to learn it's pointless giving too high wages to people who haven't earned it, why should we be held to ransom over wages, unless you'd like to see us go in to debt ofcourse?

17 Aug 2012 16:04:20
Its pretty obvious we have no money, We couldnt afford Siggurdsson, Kalou, De Jong and now southampton have beat us to Ramirez.

I blame Kenny Dalglish. Still cant believe he wasted over 100m on Coates, Downing, Adam, Carroll and Henderson

Thanks for nothing Kenny, Months after he left he's still having a bad affect on our club. Steve

Who said we were in for ramirez he is not worth 19 million euros anyways strange deal how will they be able to sell him on for a profit even down the line, max

What about Suarez and Enrique.

Carroll and Henderson arent bad players and are still young.

Steve I think you should support Citeh

We bid the same amount as tottenham for sigurdsson, he just chose them ahead of us.
And kalou was a free agent so how cud we not afford him?
And i doubt it was southampton "beating" us to Ramirez, ever maybe think that rogders wasnt interested in him and it was all paper speculation?
We are after getting a winger for 1/4 the price of ramirez who cud he just as succesful.

Also, we've already spent 28 million and theres still 2 weeks to go so we clearly do have money

Show some respect for a Liverpool legend boy. Your a disgrace
Tommy.

Coates a waste? Foolish post!

VGRed

Coates £7m that understandable for a player that won Copa America

Enrique £6m justified

Suarez £23m justified

...
Carroll 35m worth 15m
Henderson £20m worth £10m
Downing £20m worth £12-14m

17 Aug 2012 16:04:16
I can't believe Southampton are going to get Ramirez, all the clubs that have been linked with him Us, Spurs, Inter Milan, the gonners, even Arab city and he's off to Southampton for just shy of £12m !!!
WHY ???

Maybe everyone realised that he's not actually that good.............?!

He said it was a deal he could not refuse (High wages).

To all the LFC "fans" that are keen to slate new players before they've even had a chance to kick a ball ...

"Oussama Assaidi says it will be a 'dream' to play for Liverpool "

"When I watch Liverpool it's always a good atmosphere, the fans are fantastic and I'm happy to be here."

Good enough for me! he's got my support! I'd rather welcome this lad than some over-hyped and over-paid mercenaries where only money counts!

Campbell

Aw come on mate, of course he was gonna say that! You think he'd just walk in and say "Not too bothered with the club's history or the fans but im lovin' the cash they offered!" It was just professionalism, nothing else

Exactly right. I've seen video of him playing and he is a really skillful and tricky player who does something different. OK it might be a gamble on signing him but he cost a reasonabley small signing on fee and with suarez in the same side along with Borini opposiing teams wont know where to look. Sure we are going to score more goals than last season.

This looks like it might be our summer transfers for this year.

Kuyt -> Borini
Maxi -> Assaidi
Adam? -> Allen
Aquilani -> Sahin?
Carroll -> Dempsey?

Good summer IMO if we can bring in Sahin and dempsey before the end of the transfer window.

Aquilani didnt ever really play for us, so how could anyone be replacing him?

Red G

Why does Assaidi not replace Aqulani? They were similar in market value plus Adam is still a Liverpool player as far as I know and Sahin is not.

Possibly Spearing -> Dempsey!?

It's certainly improvement.

& who has replaced Bells............

Kuyt - Borini
Bellamy - Dempsey
Maxi - Assaidi
Adam - Allen
Aquilani - Sahin
Carroll - Gameiro

Hello Ed's
With Bologna accepting a bid from Southampton and him apparently agreeing personal terms with them (plus now we have signed the moroccan winger) do you think it is unlikely we will try and put an offer in for Gaston Ramirez now?

Seems a shame as he seems to be shooting rather low if he does sign for Southampton given the other clubs that have been 'interested'.

Cheers

Having been to the Southampton stadium and watched them may times i would not be so quick to say he is shooting low. Nigel is a fantastic Manager the stadium is better than ours, training facilites are great and the crowd are very noisy. If we wanted him we would have signed him simple! Southampton have agreed to his wage demands Spurs did not and we have shown very little interest.. Well done Southampton

Maybe that's his true level, didn't look much to me in the Olympics, slow decision maker, clumsey and lazy.

Their stadium is better than ours.
Wash your mouth out!
I nearly crashed the car when I read this.....
jonnybarnes89-90

Agree Nigel Adkins is a good manager to have brought Southampton back to the Premiership and an even better one to have convinced Gaston Rameriez to join them in there fist season back. I think if LFC were interested in Rameriz they could have signed him and any short comings in his playing style would be sorted by BR. Good luck to Rameriz on his decision for the 2012-2013 season

Shooting low. I love the way he dosent think he is above certain clubs

Interested means we have had him scouted and enquired about the price, obviously we did not rate him that highly that we considered making a bid at the price.
The Eds constantly explain this, and yet people struggle to grasp it, we probably show an interest in hunreds of players to varying degrees.

If Dempsey is next in as far as permanent deals go, as it seems likely, along with the recent capture of Assaidi for a combined fee of 11-13mil then we will have done very well considering Southampton seem stupid enough to pay a similar figure for Gaston Ramirez which I'm sure will rise in add ons not to mention the wages they must be giving him as we all know that was what was most important to him in any transfer and we now go on to secure the loan of Nuri Sahin then this is terrific business by LFC in this transfer window, especially when you think of the wages of our new players compared to ones that have and are yet to leave. We should all be very excited about the new depth and added quality to our squad, just hope we keep a hold of Agger :)

CLR

Gaston Ramirez is far better than both those players. However he wouldn't of suited our high pressing game.

Just an observation
It is clear that BR did not expect the LFC job so apart from Premiership players and former Swansea transfer targets when did the poor bloke actually get time to watch in person Liverpool standard players

Don't remember BR popping down to Heerenveen to watch assaidi recently ???

Don't read too much into this Summer transfer window - the real major ins and outs will be decided in The January window

Carroll / agger / spearing / downing / hendo will all be assesed as will any big potential signings

I think FSG learnt their lesson the hard way - you just don't hand out £100m to new managers

See where bR takes us by Xmas then use the transfer Market to meet our needs

If we are near the top4 we will get the £20m signing if we are 16th then FSG will be relieved they didn't part with another £100m

Leam Red

Your full of rubbish. I'm pretty sure rodgers scouts will have had an eye on him. You know the ones that didn't work for Rodgers last year

Cudge

I think if Sahin and Dempsey sign and Agger stays FSG will have backed the manager enough... and in my eyes it will have been a good summer.... suppose time will tell!

NS

Fair comments, although if we are 16th in January it may be apparent to FSG that they should have splashed the cash in August, so they might be MORE inclined to pony up the dough.

Impossible to guess really.

Red G

O dont you remember him popping over to watch him................ in the world of footbll theres these things called scouts

Fudge

That is the point bR's scouts last year we watching players to meet Swansea's needs and budget not liverpools

Don't think any of the targets monitored by the scouts under kk are even on the radar

Gaston Ramirez to Southampton...did anyone see that coming? 11m to Bologna 6m to his former club Penarol. Honestly with his decision to go there this guy is clearly a clown and has no aspiration. Well at least we didnt have to deal with him

I respect him as he dosent think he is a big time Charlie. So Suarez has no aspiration nether.

Clearly a clown? Bit harsh.
Interest in a player doesn't mean anything. We didn't bid for him, so it doesn't really matter. Good luck to him and good luck to Southampton.

I posted yesterday in relation to the timings of Assaidi's medical and squad number. A few people had commented but since this post has been removed. I confirmed he would have/complete his medical this afternoon and would be allocated the number 11 shirt. Since then, this has all been confirmed. I don't understand why this was posted and now removed? I have checked the time of the post and it should still be on this website.

Anyhow, within this post, I stated that Nuri Sahin would also have a medical today with a view of joining on a season-long loan with an automatic clause inserted into the loan deal that would allow Liverpool to buy him on a permanent deal for an agreed set amount. This was due to happen but late last night, Arsene Wenger contacted the player and his agent directly, asking him to hold up the move until Arsenal agree terms with Real Madrid over a move. Sahin would prefer to join a Champions League club and I now understand that he would prefer to join Arsenal if a deal with Madrid can be agreed. Expect more news by the middle of next week.

Mitchell.

That's nice

I'm sorry but I have to agree with this this, this lad was spot on I saw the post and everything he said was correct, well done on a class post shame it got taken down.

Gaston Ramirez is going to Southampton. This has to be the most unexpected, out of the blue move for quite some time. Here you go:

Southampton have had a ¬15 million bid for Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez accepted, beating off competition from Liverpool and Tottenham.

The Uruguay international, who was part of the Olympic squad, turned down a move to Tottenham but appears to be keen on a switch to the south coast in a stunning move for the newly-promoted side.

Ramirez told Corriere Dello Sport: "They believe in me in every way... and above all, I have said that they are going to grow. Southampton is a newly-promoted team in the English top flight, but they have the means to stand tall in a few years. And with me, they are going

Under Rogers, our younger players will make a step up. Great to see that Liverpool have already signed some young players like Allen and Assaidi who will have a better chance of success.

17 Aug 2012 14:18:38
Clint Dempsey has submitted a transfer request. Apparently he did so two days ago. He will be Liverpool player by end of work today. The whole thing was stage managed to avoid issues with Fulham fans.

This is the second signing Rodgers was talking about.
Sahin was given a deal that he will not refuse. The only issue was to do with a clause should he decides

to join LFC permanently. I am told with absolute certainty that he will be our player by Monday but if a

miracle happens then he will be our player in 4 hours time.

Arsenal are very keen on him though, i wouldn't be surprised if sahin changed his mind.

£11.8 million accepted by bolgna from southampton,WTF!!,come on,really, surely we can afford to beat that !!

No we can't .it was Allen or ramirez .

17 Aug 2012 14:14:39
For the first time since speculation began, Jol has confessed that the club may have to sell one of their most-prized assets this transfer window, as the club confirmed via their official Twitter account that Dempsey is eyeing the exit door.

"If we get the right price for Clint we will sell him. If not, he will stay," Jol told reporters.

"We want to keep him but it's impossible because he wants to go. Clint wants to go to a Champions League club.

It's crazy to think I played under Colie Pascoe as a Cardiff City youth trainee. Now he's Liverpools assistant manager.

Never in a million years did anyone expect that to happen. I was just watching LFCTV and saw him being interviewed, it's crazy how things pan out.

Can't wait for tomorrow - come on the Reds!

I'm the person that wrote this, not quite sure why there's people disagreeing, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

I can assure you of way back when, people associated with Cardiff would never have dreamed this happening. Good luck to the guy - great acheivement.

Hi Ed

With the announcement that Dempsey wants to leave Fulham do you now think that Liverpool will make a move for his signature? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool have been trying.}

Dempsey left out of Fulham's squad tomorrow, a sign he's nearing completion to Anfield?

17 Aug 2012 13:47:21
Looks like Dempsey might be our next signing as I understand he has handed in a transfer request and will not be in the squad for the Norwich game. Personally I think he will be an excellent by for us, works really hard and scores plenty of goals!

Oh...and no more Ramirez talk plse, overated over hyped, high wage demands..and doubt many on this website have seen him play much either at club level! YNWA

Find it hilarious that the Manch's and Chelski fans on Twitter think Ramirez choose Southampton over us. Am I correct saying we never bid for the guy, and that Spurs did. All rumours surrounding LFC were BS. So SAFC beat THFC not LFC to him haha. Think the situation there might be like the one were Mascherano and Tevez joined WHUFC, at least people will stop linking him to us now thank god!

JD

Lfc is the most hated club in the world, like that's pretty much certain now. There's always fans from other clubs commenting on rumours from newspapers, or on banter or rumours pages. Our players get booed even if their from Britain and during their national anthem...? We used to get respect from other top clubs namely arse al who like us played beautiful football, now it's like they think their superior to us.

There's reasons for this though, Liverpool fans never really got involved with the banter of other clubs, always were a class above the others (which is another reason why we are regarded as the best fans in the world). The only clubs we use to rival were man united and everton. Now we rival all the top clubs because of the situation were in. Not only the situation were in but because of the situation their in also. Arsenal haven't won anything in 7 years, lost their best players (selling club) and only recently got forced to spend. Spurs are about to lose modric which is the nucleus of the team and replace him with sigurdsoon...right then. On top of that they let go the best thing that ever happened to them (Harry redknapp) and replaced him with an absolute disaster, none other that AVB...who we rejected for Brendan rogers, their first choice lool. Man united got owned last season and felt worse than the clubs that got relegated because who was there to remind them they flopped...LFC. Man united are also a very dodgy club and their manager has obviously got connections and has even been caught on that channel 4 documentary but no one did anything about it and he was allowed to ban Suarez for 8 matches with no evidence what's so ever whilst John terry walks a free man.

Man city, well there's not much to say about them other than you bought the premier league just like Chelsea did so your no better than them. Plus when was the last time you were at the top... Before the FA win all they had in their history was what they recall as glory days were they won virtually nothing. If man city didn't have this owner they would be in the bottom half of the premier league. Chelsea are the same as man city almost a replicate really, we're a mid table team before they got bought, then they bought success and thought they were amazing. Any club that has billions well spent on players are going to win the league. Chelsea are now following in the image of Greece and the community shield was a pleasure to watch, because they looked crap.

Newcastle is a joke. They were relegated not to long ago aha which if I was a Newcastle fan I would remember everytime I went to slate another club. They haven't won anything since...ever. Newcastle are not going to replicate last season and I will love to see this reaction. Back down to the championship you go (pat on the head). Finally everton lol, the bitters...forever in the shadow of lfc. Every everton fan enjoyed masturbating over finishing above us last season, they regard that as an 'achievement' need I say more?

That's why we're the most hated on, because we are still the most successful team in England.

Nice post man yeah I agree the whole league seems to hate us for petty reasons, sometimes i sit here and think whats going to happened to City and Chelski when the owners decide to leave? There already having trouble selling players as they have spent a mint on them and given them silly wages, then no one else can afford to pay it. I swear United are in the s**t too with the debt there in. I'm sure Arsenal might struggle this season without RVP, and Chelsea if Torres gets injured are screwed.

Should be a fun season, Everton make me laugh mind they finished above us in the league and got nothing out of it no European Football, no cup nothing. Heard some their fans on a web site saying they will again this season. Makes me laugh they've signed who? A player that couldn't cut it at Spurs and a Rangers player whoopey haha. Best thing is I live near Stoke and their fans think they're gods gift to football with lets punt it up the pitch and hope it hits the big man in the head haha. Think a lot of clubs will be disappointed this season.

I swear Manu are the most hated and Liverpool are to most chastised because of our current position - for the BEST decorated club in England (love saying that last part)

17 Aug 2012 13:29:14
Eds, why with Dempsey clearly wanting to leave, spurs and southampton both agreeing fees of around 12 million pounds for Ramirez and Sahin slowly heading more towards arsenal every day, are we signing some random Moroccan kid no one has ever heard of before. Our main targets are getting away and we are doing nothing. Are us fans going to be shown that the worry was for nothing and there signing soon or are we in for another season of watching united, city, arsenal and chelsea pull further away from us. Yes its been a great window for us so far but its not completed yet, our team is not strong enough to compete all season with the above mentioned teams, those 3 signings, with adam carroll and spearing leaving would set us up for a serious challenge against the top four

Another anxious fan just wanting to know any information you have eds.

AUS Red {Ed002's Note - The Spurs bud for Ramirez was rejected. I have explained all summer the situation with Ramirez and this bizarre perception the Liverpool fans had about him being the "main" target.}

This guy is a buffoon!

just a bit dissapointed at the min we sign some morrocan kid from nowere they go and sign van persie. i believe in brendan rodgers style of play but just wondering why they ever let dc/kenny/sc loose with 100 mill because they all must have had a input i thought we had money or is he saying this to get prices down?

Why are you disappointed we signed a kid from nowhere, Arsenal did that with Van Persie to begin with

In many ways ramirez to Southampton (if true) has made my day lol
Personally i do think he would have been good for us but it just goes to show how little most of us know

I have read G Ramirez comments suggesting they made he feel special blah blah...do you think that he will sign with them for sure or do you think its still possible that he or his agent is hoping a bigger team will make a last second dash for him?

I am not totally convinced yet but probably completely wrong

17 Aug 2012 13:27:19
Hi ed, are ars enal winning the fight for sahin because i felt like you were confident we would get but now i dont feel you are so sure {Ed002's Note - My words on the matter were: Sahin has been angling for a move to AC Milan who are being cautious in the market or a return to Germany with Bayern Munich but there is no interest from them. A move to Besiktas has been rejected although Galatasaray would like to take him to Turkey. There has been confirmed interest from Spurs, Inter, Liverpool, MIlan and Arsenal although it looks like Manchester United has dropped the interest they had. I understand that Miguel Pardeza would prefer to see a sale at an unrealistic price (as quoted to AC Milan) rather than a loan which others at Real Madrid would prefer. AC Milan, Arsenal and Liverpool seem to be the three viable options at the moment.}

17 Aug 2012 13:24:34
Some Update about Sahin
Real want to loan him to Liverpool, Player more or less convinced to go to Liverpool, Nevertheless, the agent is persuading Sahin to join Arsenal. May be some agent fee is involved with Arsenal. Arsenal are pushing hard to change his mind and Liverpool gave a deadline for today to hear his decision. a website are expecting some resolve on the matter before the end of the day

It was reported by a Spanish journalist on Talks**te last night that Jose wants him to go to Liverpool to play for his friend Brendan.

The fact that Jol has said Dempsey wants to leave and if they get the right price they will sell him, I'd say there was quite a lot to it.

I swear some people on here excpect players to just all of a sudden turn into messi! It's a game of progression and learning and while some have such talent at young ages (aguero, messi etc) others must climatize, look at Sami Hypia, cheap deal and turned out to be one of the best centre halves in the prem, I'm shocked that people are slating players before we've even kicked a ball, if we are going to make top 4 we need the terraces of anfield and the Kop rocking in harmony in support of our great club and players!

A great man once said "If you don't support us when we lose don't support us when when we win" I think you can twist and apply that a bit here, c'mon redmen together we will be unstoppable....YNWA

17 Aug 2012 13:15:31
Hi Ed's, quick question, Rogers said yesterday that he hoped to sign 2 players in the next 48 hours, we've signed one so I assumed the next would be Sahin, I then read that Wenger is trying to stall the deal to hijack him, do you feel there's actually truth in this? {Ed002's Note - He is not trying to stall the deal to hijack him - Arsenal is one of the clubs showing an interest in him.}

17 Aug 2012 13:15:05
Gaston Ramirez to Southampton according to SSN, Why not Man City like you eds believed ? {Ed002's Note - I don't know that any of the Eds said he would go to Manchester City.}

I think you said 6 months ago about them having interest Ed. But nothing more than that but nothing recently and definitely never that he would sign... -McMenemy

17 Aug 2012 13:14:20
Who cares about Gaston! if he was that good we would have bid. Have any other "Big" clubs Bid?? {Ed002's Note - Juve, Inter.}

For all those Fans? Who are Asking why we haven't signed Rameirez are owners and Manager are on record as saying we don't have the money! The question you should be asking is why the Teams that do have cash after selling the family silver, Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton haven't signed him? He is a risky investment, that's why BR brought in Allen he's a known quantity! Ged

Hicks and Gillette would have got you Ramires ;)

Exactly why Hicks & Gillete are not around Disney

17 Aug 2012 12:34:04
ARRGHHH....I just want to scream! All you Ramires lovers out there! He DID not snub LFC...IF and that's a BIG IF we wanted him we would have got him, but he is looking for high wages and a crazy sign on fee.....he is another money grabber and as supporters and a club we do not want his type of player at the club!! I hope assaidi proves you all wrong and lights the prem up this season......There is alot of you out there who need to understand that Football Manager IS NOT REAL LIFE!! I however am looking forward to a new season, new manager, new players and for once a sense of belief from the top of the Liver bird all the way down to the youngest fan in the stands.....YNWA

17 Aug 2012 12:37:11
there's a lot of talk about why are we not signing ramirez, he's snubbed us !, signing for southampton !, only 12mil !, we've missed out on him !,
obviously there was not much interest from us otherwise BR would have pushed it, how can we miss out on a player we never bid for,
he is NOT a target, will everyone just forget about him and let him sign for saints( which is quite funny to be fair)

Liverpool are still in the hunt for a striker, fox in the box required, suggestions ed? heard a grim rumour Owen was being looked at on a free to come off the bench. Sahin will be pushed for an answer today, its only his agent holding back the deal to see what they can get out of it (typical). Tello seems dead in the water as he doesnt want to move to another country.

Digz {Ed002's Note - Borini.}

Hi Eds,

Been a regular follower of this and the previous site (www.football-rumours.co.uk) for a while now.
Was just wondering how long has the original (www.football-rumours.co.uk) site been online for? As in since what year?
And if there's an exact date maybe we could celebrate the day. With Ed002 being the Guest of Honour! We could perhaps even Knight him for his contribution to Humour (read Sarcasm) and Literature (read PepeCam)! All Hail Ed002!

Thanking you as always,

Is there an Ed007? {Ed002's Note - Yes.}

Lil Red

Suely he plays like Assaidi. Just a guess.

Mighty reds

Assaidi can be a hit then Hazard. this guy have some amezing footwork something Suarez do at the moment. if he adopt the english football fast then he is a next star.

Difference is looks like hazard has more pace but you never know he might have pace to.

17 Aug 2012 12:31:16
Was wondering if anyone else isn't as that convinced by the transfer so far this summer?
Dont get me wrong I'm aware of the financial situations and 100% committed in terms of BRs plans and project have been extremely impressed since he's arrived..
But still can't help feel we're aiming for the wrong players? Regardless of our recent season Liverpool is a club that can and will attract quality players - to get back to where we should be I'd of thought we'd of used this to our advantage as much as possible?
Eg if Agger was infact sold last week Id think we should be aiming to bring an up and coming potential world class centre back to the club (your Ogbonnas, Papadopoulos, ect) Or even a proven centre back in Europe.
Yet I can't help believe perhaps an Ashley Williams or a previous Swansea target would be targeted and in my opinion that'd be heading in the wrong direction..
Is it just me?

Ed, any Idea of when Assaidi's medical is and when he expected to be an official player ?? -McMenemy {Ed002's Note - No idea.}

17 Aug 2012 12:29:30
First if all Assaidi looks very promising, looks like he has great technical ability. Secondly, Charlie Adam will be transferred this window but not to Everton, Dempsey deal depends on Andy Carroll going to Newcastle, Nuri Sahin hopefully (fingers crossed) will be concluded tomorrow

17 Aug 2012 13:01:13
AC wont go back to Newcastle. LFC holding out for more than 19M but AC doesn't want to return - not like this. He is settled and wants to push for spot in Rodger's style of play.

I really hope he stays he could play in the style of play easily, look at the pre season games how many balls came into the box where suarez and borni or who ever else was there couldnt get to it as there too small, neter carrol and those would be goals or shots atleast I can eaily see him playing.

Hello Ed and fellow Reds. I have heard from reliable source lfc miss out on sahin as arsenal close on signing. Also Reds miss out on tello. As he wanted to stay in barca. But 1 player who will sign for Reds is Dempsey? Whats ur thoughts on that. Thanx.

17 Aug 2012 12:59:19
Some of you make me laugh.

Why didn't we get Ramirez etc... Guaranteed half of you would never have known who he was until his name was bandied around here a while back.

If the same had happened with the new kid and people had a chance to do the usual checking You Tube as the final authority on if a player is good then you would have been banging on about him aswell. It just happened without you being able to chat about if first, so therefore he is rubbish in your eyes as you didn't get the ITK people brainwashing you ala Ramirez beforehand.

Why, because he cost £3 mil is he going to rubbish?

You play football manager/fantasy football out in the real world when it comes to Liverpool and it doesn't work that way. You assume we can just go and get soemone, when you surely know there is much more to it than that. You do know you can't just go and get a player to Liverpool like picking them off a supermarket shelf. I'm sure you must do right, no one is that deluded?

All I see is good news coming out of Anfield but some of you just have to bleat on about how shocking things are. Carry on, whatever, just glad I don't drink with you in the pub, you'd have me slitting my wrists in no time.

Very well said.

Totally agree, arsenal only paid something like 2.5 million for van persie and look how he turned out

17 Aug 2012 12:56:23
BR would have had a significant input into assaidi, we have to trust him. Look what he pieced together at swansea. If he had come from Ajax everyone would have hailed the transfer. Ajax were interested by taking a punt on him now might just av saved us 20m. Like hypertherically Suarez before his move to Ajax? Or augero when we were originally offered him?

Re Ramirez I doubt he was ever a serious target, and there is a reason why spurs, inter & citeh passed him by, & bolonga & Southampton on his cv isn't great is it.

I am looking forward to the new season, I think borini & Adam will b great additions & I'm really looking forward to seeing assaidi play in a red shirt. Your thoughts Ed's & fellow posters?

Jimbob

I totally agree jimbob.

Not sure Adam will be a good addition mate. Allen will though

***correction***

Please note at the end of original post typo error meant Allen not Adam! Sorry.

Eds do ypu still reckon there is a chance of Sahin to liverpool ?
I am just worried that he isn't done yet. Do you reckon the delay is due to Arsenal interest or Madrid waiting to confirm Modric first ? {Ed002's Note - Of course there is a chance. The delay is because his agent wants hime to go one place and Madrid would prefer somewhere else. I expect at least one more offer will arrive today.}

So his agent wants Arsenal and Madrid want him to go to liverpool. Any idea why the agent is pushing for Arsenal ? Its not like he has to play for us :) {Ed002's Note - Because of the Champions League.}

Maybe, just maybe he's not as good as some have had you believe.

Who cares we've Assaidi. Get over it! "You probably know nothing about the player anyway".

17 Aug 2012 12:55:44
Hi eds,
What position do we need Back up for?
With Assaidi In the bag, Why would we Need Sahin when We have Allen-Gerrard-Lucas midfield, Would we possibly need a Back up for Left back or Maybe Centre Back? with Jamie Carragher Down the Pecking order and With andre Wisdom making a Name for himself.
Confusing how Ramirez will Sign for Southampton...No one would've guessed that in a Million years. Do you think he Will reject them and Stay in Italy?

17 Aug 2012 12:52:20
Ramirez to Southampton - Twitter scam !

17 Aug 2012 12:39:37
Can we make this the last day that Gaston Ramirez gets mentioned.

Cudge

Please please please I hope this happens. Sick of it now.

17 Aug 2012 12:49:59
we will be top of the premiership by christmas ...what odds would you get for that ?

dannybhoy
17/08/2012

Not a bad bet to take

I would cert be safer and go top 3/4 at christmas. See Man C running away with it this year, seriously think we can scrap top 4 least I hope so

17 Aug 2012 12:46:34
Looks like the Ramirez to Southampton rumours have some substance.
Unbelievable if he goes there for £11.8M.

Why? Maybe thats his true level.

17 Aug 2012 12:45:45
The way I see it is that even if we do not sign anyone else;- This has been a good start in the transfer market for Brendon. We have moved on some players who wanted out, some who left at the right time for themselves after being a "good lad" - thanks Maxi - will be missed and were identifying some fringe players who may, should or will move on loan or permo but at least things are becoming clear.

We have signed three players in areas of the park that needed strengthening and could turn out legends or just 'legs' (a pair of em attached to a body on the bench), but all managers make mistakes and if one is amazing, one just good and one terrible - they're not bad stats.

If we sign any more players that'll be good;- but we're in better shape than last season and if we put em in the net instead of against the woodwork - we'll be ok.

Roll on tomorrow!

17 Aug 2012 12:44:47
Before the haters say, "If Southampton can get Ramirez why cant we? If he goes to Southampton, then I would suggest Liverpool, Man city did not follow up their initial enquiries for the player as they were no longer interested.

Kez

17 Aug 2012 12:44:05
Are we losing out on our targets? ie sahin to Arsenal > Ramirez to S'Hampton > Tello staying at Barca! Who is this Morroccan kid? Will he be good enough for the first team? Me thinks Ian Ayre has messed it up!!

You don't have a clue really do you? If we wanted Ramirez we would have him by now! The sahin deal is still ongoing and would you blame tello for wanting to try and force his way into the barca team?! As soon as one thing doesn't seem to go our way people crawl out and start blaming people for everything just enjoy the football tomorrow and don't worry about signings because it will all be sorted soon enough!

You thinks?

Shut up.

17 Aug 2012 12:42:10
Ed, not been on for a while and I'm seeing Assaidi to Liverpool, Ramirez to southampton! What's going on?!

Cheers

You just answered your own question.

17 Aug 2012 12:42:04
Eds i posted the other day saying my sources told me this sahin deal werent as cut n dry as the eds n some fans think! It was not posted! Look back n you will see! He will not be joining liverpool, 100% sure of this! I think our work is unfortunately done in this transfer window! Disappointed!
HARDY1892 YNWA {Ed002's Note - I am not sure that the Eds think the Sahin deal is cut and dry. Here is what I had to say on the matter "Sahin has been angling for a move to AC Milan who are being cautious in the market or a return to Germany with Bayern Munich but there is no interest from them. A move to Besiktas has been rejected although Galatasaray would like to take him to Turkey. There is confirmed interest from Spurs, Inter, Liverpool, MIlan and Arsenal although it looks like Manchester United has dropped the interest they had. I understand that Miguel Pardeza would prefer to see a sale at an unrealistic price (as quoted to AC Milan) rather than a loan which others at Real Madrid would prefer. AC Milan, Arsenal and Liverpool seem to be the three viable options."}

17 Aug 2012 12:39:59
Has there ever been any interest in James McLean? I know we now have Downing, Assaidi, Sterling, ect. so obviously not any time soon but coming from the big Irish fan base Id love to see him at our club..

17 Aug 2012 12:37:51
Guys we need to be optimistic about the new season. BR is going to bring a great football mentality to the club and I for one am really optimistic about the coming season. As soon as I new we were letting KK go BR was the guy I wanted. Forget all the big names, this guy is gonna make us a force again. I am 100% certain of that. We will do finish top 4 this season.

We have made some good signings and this assadi character looks like a really good young player. We only got him so cheap cos he was in last year of his contract. This shows BR doesn't just look for big names and Marque signings. If we get Sahin and another attacker we are in serious business next season.

Come on you reds

'Marca' saying Sahin has agreed to join LFC, good news
YNWA JFT96

No it is not. Marca is running a story stating that Sahin's agent left the Bernabeu this morning without reaching an agreement with Real. The player would rather a move to Arsenal. negotiations will likely continue into next week.

That article was from yesterday unfortunately, I don't think it still applies.

Marca arent saying that

Anyone else got the feeling that we will wait till next summer to buy ramirez for 30 million of southampton, liverpool style lol

No because assaidi will be worth as much by then

17 Aug 2012 12:14:49
given that ramirez is availiable for 11.5 million, im not sure why we havnt made a move, surely we can afford that? if we get sahin and this guy we would be sorted.

having said that and this is just postulation , maybe we could be looking at someone with a bit more. when adam and spearing have gone,i think the one who comes in wil be iker muniain. rodgers has kept his cards close to his chest so far , and i dont see him thinking that either walcott or johnson offer good value. what are the chances of muniain?
say 18 million maybe add ons?

You know that this price tag triggers the bidding war exactly what Bologna wanted
if we get involved i'm afraid we will end up buying him for 25 mill

plus BR only waistes big money on players he knows and can trust we know he's good but will he be in prem league

like hazard etc...

17 Aug 2012 12:09:57
U ok Edds naw we have signed that new winger dose that mean we won't be goin for theo or Adam jhonson and 1 more thing has shain signed and if not haw close is he to sign in thanks

Big jeff {Ed002's Note - Walcott - I don't know what is happening. I would not hold your breath over Johnson.}

17 aug 2012 12:08:47
our next signings will be from players sales.

assaidi - £2.4m
sahin - loan
dempsey - £8m
gameiro - £14m
= £24.4m

bellamy - £2m
carroll - £17m
adam - £5m
= £24m

Sahin won't be coming, he wants to go to Arsenal but Perez doesn't want that, I have a feeling because of that he will mess the move up for himself and either go somewhere else or stay at Madrid.

Bellamy went for free £0,000,000

17 Aug 2012 12:08:34
Haha Southampton have agreed a fee with Bolagna for Rameirez, prepare for the s**tstorm of people on here complaining about FSG not pulling their finger out and saying 'that's another one mkssed'

I feel sorry for you eds

Rob

17 Aug 2012 12:07:45
Really disappointed to see Ramirez not coming to LFC. BR can spend £15 mil on Allen and then talk about value for money. If it true that he will be sold for £11.5mil. Surely we can match that and offer a better wage packet.

Maybe we don't want him...

MIKEY

God ramirez is lazy egotistical ,doesnt have the pace or character to play rodgers high pressing game, why can t people understand this, he s not the correct fit for liverpool

And then when he falls flat on his face and everyone says they knew that Ramirez would be sh*t and we never wanted him here anyway! We haven't even bid so I'm just guessing that we don't want him? Anyone agree?

Is ramirez really that good? i doubt it

17 Aug 2012 12:06:43
Hi Eds Please confirm its me using IP
Strange goings on, Callejón does not want to leave despite price agreed and spoke to Mou personally yday the details will only be published after the transfer window has closed as was respected by Real, the agent of Sahin left the ground about 2 hours ago with nothing agreed, in fact his agent is asking for significant signing on fee which is holding it all up but now Arsenal are looking the more likely due to Liverpools refusual to budge and Arsenals desperation to get a signing in before the details of Songs departure come out later today ( around 6pm will be announced )
LFC have now turned to Atleti and Im hearing the delegation arrived at the Calderon in the last 15 mins to sound out a deal involving Falcao with Agger going other way and us paying 10 million....stay tuned just getting interested.
Hasta Luego
El Chavalito

What a load of crap, Falcao coming to us? what are you on mate??

Keep dreaming mate!

How is your football manager season going? Because we aren't gonna get falcao and agger won't go to atletico

17 Aug 2012 12:01:42
Hi Ed's I would just like to know what's happening with Sahin deal? And what do you think of the new lad we have brought in don't know much about him but what I've seen on YouTube he has just what we need pace skill and a good eye for goal!

Cheers

17 Aug 2012 12:28:48
hi eds not really a transfer rumour but a question surely if liverpool put in a bid of 12m which bologna would accept and we offer the same terms that southampton have offered which ramirez has said he has accepted and they are classic which will set him anmd his family up. he has also said that the club have guarenteed to bulid around him. you can see all of this on a website. just wondering why liverpool wont bid cant they afford or dont they have intrest just wondering. thanks eds great site

It is because we DON'T WANT HIM. Build a bridge and get over it

17 Aug 2012 12:24:39
If we lose Sahin to Arsenal, I think it'll be the only thing I'm disappointed about this transfer season (should Agger stay, of course). He's very good on the ball, rarely wastes a pass and would have been a HUGE quality signing for our midfield. Still hoping we can wrap that one up.

Other than that, any updates on Dempsey and Agger/Carroll? I think selling Carroll and signing Dempsey would be a great move. I also think we should be targeting a quality striker if Carroll leaves. Considering we're in so many competitions this season. What are lfc fans and Ed's thoughts on?

17 Aug 2012 12:24:28
Well done to southampton for convincing ramirez to come, they must have had a good project then, also i think the asaidi guy will be a bargain watched his team last year and he out shone das bost and narsigh.

Also people saying he's crap because of the price tag, remember he's in the last year of his contract. Ramirez at southampton probably guarantees him as a starter, he could be the difference between them going down or staying up.

Gaston Ramirez to Southampton! Oh well.

17 Aug 2012 12:18:13
Not being funny but all you supposed in the know people, how come no one forsaw the signing of Assaidi? Just goes to show, no one knows anything except Rodgers and those close to him and it seems info getting out is even more of a closed book than previous regimes. In the knows pfffft.

Question for eds or mac a do you believe sahin will sign for us or arsenal {Ed052's Note - Im still hoping us, weve done all the leg work.}

17 Aug 2012 12:04:18
Eds any idea when the assaidi deal will be completed and as it hasn't seemingly been done before 12 noon he won't be able to take part in any squad for this weekend?
Bean {Ed002's Note - You have been misinformed about noon.}

Oh I thought that if a player had not signed officially before noon then they couldn't play that weekend
Any Idea what the rule is, if any rule then ed?
Bean {Ed002's Note - He has to be registered one hour before a game. Except for the 31st, transfers are only processed during office hours.}

Oh right cheers ed

17 Aug 2012 12:00:52
next transfers

Oussama Assaidi - £2.4m (medical)

Nuri Sahin - loan....(assaidi and sahin should sign within days)

Kevin Gameiro - £13.8m or 17.5m euro (once carroll is sold)

selling Adam & Carroll for £22m

17 Aug 2012 11:58:48
I remember the time when players would crawl to come to Liverpool, instead they go to Southampton, Spurs ……… we are no longer a big attraction, we just sign 'average' players, i.e. Downing, Henderson, Adam, Carroll. True?

Please tell me one player who has chosen either Spurs or Southampton over us.

JRG

So true, Southampton are miles bigger than us, wait a minute, that means they are also bigger than Spurs, City,Inter and Napoli, seeing as they looked at Ramirez also and he turned them done too(Oh sorry and Wolfsburg!)
John Wigan

If they don't want us - we don't want them

Siggurdsson

The two players that you're refering to, ramirez and signurdsson, we didn't actually put in an offer for them so they didn't pick them over us, they didn't have Liverpool as an option.
So this deems your post as pointless.

Sigurdsson did not choose Spurs over us - we never bid for him!

JRG

17 Aug 2012 11:57:16
official liverpool fc website shows weve signed the moroccan winger assaidi.
came out of nothing - good work

17 Aug 2012 11:54:46
Liverpool in agreement with Arsenal that Sahin will join them and they will release Walcott to us! Also, ..... We have made an enquiry about Sinclair.

17 Aug 2012 11:52:05
eds i know that this is probably the most random LFC question ever but why hasnt martin kelly been given a new number I mean 34 doesnt look like a first team player something like 15 or 6 would suit him besides he is Definitely a quality england international in the making as well as glens replacement

YNWA {Ed002's Note - I have no idea.}

Maybe he likes the number 34. Squad numbers are irrelevant. First team players in Italy often wear numbers like 80, 66 etc. It means nothing.

17 Aug 2012 11:50:33
when will our small time manager realise we need a proven goalscorer.up to now we have only got suarez good enough to get double figures.and i dont mean anyone with swansea connections
tonywebbo

He trusts Suarez as do I that he has the ability to hit the back of the net more this season.
And he has made it more a team ethic for them all to chip in with goals just trust him.
Skurks

Your use of the words "Small Time and Manager" are offensive - so I'm guessing he isn't your manager - LFC isn't your Club and you're on the wrong page

Oh dear Tonywebbo. Not really a BR fan are you?
Why dont you try getting behind him and the team, instead of bleating about 'small time' etc? your posts continually follow the same theme, are just make you look naive and ignorant.

BigBadBen

Absolutely disgusting OP. If u cant see BR's managerial quality, hell even the mancs deserve better supporters than u. Go watch cricket or baseball. Football is not for u.

I'm sick of this BR bashing, i suppose Hazard, Marin and Oscar all wanted to play for Di Matteo did they or does money talk? And i hope Borini makes you eat your words.

Good morning reds and eds.

After surviving the wrath of a annoyed female last night, I see developments in the football world today!

First I wanna say, good luck and fair play to Southampton! Guys let's just forget about Ramirez now! Yes, I'm aware that the figure for his transfer is about £12 mil etc.....but to be honest guys we don't need him!

Sahin on the other hand, we do need! Please, please, please let us wrap the deal up sharpish!

However, if we do get him I think that will be the end of our transfers in for this window. (Unless Carroll goes and a replacement comes in).

If we just end up with the purchases of~ Borini, Allen, Assaldi and Sahin....I for one will be very happy indeed!

Finally, I just want to say.........Welcome to Liverpool FC Assaldi :)
The Premier League is now your stage, and Anfield is our main concert hall!
Please feel free to express yourself with those fantastic ball skills!

Season starts tomorrow and I can't wait! I feel like a kid! Lol

17 Aug 2012 11:47:21
I wouldn't be bothered if we didnt get sahin or tello. We don't need another cm and tello isn't even anygood. Obviously if they sign my opinion will change. I get they feeling we have no money it's no Point in talking about half the names because we are doing this window on the cheap. Ramirez walcott Johnson Dempsey we can't afford them with without Carroll going.

17 Aug 2012 11:39:27
Did southampton actually sign Gaston Ramirez?? {Ed002's Note - No, not yet.}

17 Aug 2012 11:24:08
If Ramirez does sign for Southampton (note: he hasn't actually done so, yet) I'm sure people are going to bawl and bawl and BAWL about us missing out on him.

But if he's as good as people say he is, why is he going to Southampton? I don't intend to offend the Saints, it's good to have them back in the PL, they were always there when I was growing up. But let's be honest if we'd made a serious move, or Tottenham or Wolfsburg or half the top teams in Europe had made a really serious move, we'd have probably got him instead. So why hasn't that happened if he's supposed to be that good?

Could it be because the top teams have scouted him extensively and realise that there's some flaw or limitation in his game and he's not worth £12m? Whilst for Southampton it's worth the risk if he pays off?

Nah, can't be. Everyone, including us, just must have their thumbs up their arses. Except for Southampton, that is.

A question for the Eds, win regards to the Sahin loan deal, with people saying he might choose this club over that one and so on, does it not come down to his parent club choosing where they want to send him to develop the player more than where the player prefers to play? I'm unsure and thought you might have more knowledge on this? Thanks

CoolhandLFC JFT96 {Ed002's Note - They cannot force him to move somewhere he doesn't want to go.}

They also don't have to loan him to somewhere they don't want him to go. They can easily tell him you're staying here. He's still their player.

Thanks Ed002 that has cleared that up for me

17 Aug 2012 11:26:12
Hi Eds, hope all is well.

Did you see this signing coming?

I am very positive on the Assaidi signing. Great pace and a good dribbler. Seen him at Heerenveen numberous times and he's definatily got talent, will be exiting to see if he can make it in the PL. If not, the reported fee of around £3 is the end of the world.

Do you have any info on when the medical will take place?

Thanks for your time and effort.

Surely if we got rid of Adam, Spearing and Cole we would have enought to sign Ramirez? 12m what a coup for Southampton. Cannot see him being on big money down there - they aren't a QPR. Unbelievable. I was on board for Borini and Allen, and Ramirez would have been the final piece in the puzzle - a great replacement for Bellamy. I am not slating this Assaidi or anything but top young players don't move to clubs for 3m in this day and age. They cost 12m, like Ramirez. I'm sorry but I cannot get behind this new signing. It confuses me to think of a player who should be playing for us in a Southampton shirt and a player playing for a team like Southampton playing in a Liverpool shirt. Hopefully we can put a bid in for him but I highly doubt it now.

a very frustrated LFC1992

I know it's crap when your toys are no longer in your pram.

Listen mate...........you are judging players by their signing on fee.....

hyppia cost us less than 5 m..and he was one of the best defenders ever in the prem..i can go on all day about prices.....but you cant judge on price

We got assadi for 3m cos he was in last year of his contract. Otherwise it would of been nearer to 10m

Jk23

Maybe, you can apply for the vacant post when Brendan eventually moves on.

You can't get behind the player?! He's not signed to spite you, you are aware of this.

Why don;t you try supporting a Liverpool player. You know..as a supporter.

Frankly it's ludicrous some of you take it out on the player for signing when they haven't kicked a ball. Let's make them feel welcome and they will be encouraged to perform, the kids probably excited as hell to be signing for us. For what reason have you to shoot him down.

WE DIDN'T WANT RAMIREZ GET OVER IT STOP MOANING. I thought because he's signed for the saints that people like you would stop clogging up the site with things about Ramirez but obviously I was wrong.

Scouser tommy

Get over it.

If Liverpool signed every player that was mentioned on this site then we would have a squad of +2000. Rodgers makes the decisions and he has obviously decided that Ramirez is not worth the money or doesn't fit the system.

We can only have 25-players and each one of them is not going to cost +£12m. You need cheaper, low-wage squad players. If Assaidi doesn't make it then we have lost very little money. If Ramirez doesn't work-out, you have lost a large transfer fee and have a high-earner who will be difficult to sell-on.

Oh and RVP moved from the Dutch league to the EPL for less than £3m. The reason Assaidi is so cheap is because he is in the last year of his contract. He had actually agreed on a move to Ajax before we moved for him.

JRG

If you aren't behind a new signing then you aren't a Liverpool supporter! You obviously aren't behind rogers if you don't trust his transfers. Go and support someone else if your attitude is like that!

He has signed for Southampton. Does that not tell you something about either a) the quality of the player b) the kind of clubs that were in for him? A lot of people seem to be overcooking this guy. If he was a "top young player" he would have been snapped up by a "top club" . I'm sorry but signing for southampton suggests that he isnt the signing people considered.

Why don't you apply for the manager's job in a few years time, when you leave school?

Albert Riera - 8m

People are saying not too many other clubs showed any interest , so may be he is not good enough etc..but if we got him they would be over the moon again.. the top 4 in england they dont need any more players, their squads are almost complete..there were offers for him from different italian & german clubs and I suppose bologna and the player was holding out for more money then but now realising a dream move may never occur this summer they are willing to accept whatever they got now ..I seriously wish we still get him though that looks unlikely..
if we got sahin(loan),dempsey, nico gaitan & ramirez and sold out adam, spearing, cole, wilson, pacheco & carroll we will have a squad capable of challenging the top 3..
maybe BR has a couple of other surprises for us and could get us a couple more 2-3 million gems..

" I can not get behind this signing " Thats not what being an LFC fan is about at all... with an attitude like that you would be MUCH better off up the road at Old Toilet.

Surely the fact that Southampton have splashed £12M ( which in todays football climate is not a huge amount of money) and non of the so called bigger clubs stumped up this relatively small amount of money for him.

That the bigger clubs decieded to pass on him for whatever reason. eg not good enough

Go an support Southampton then

Wow maybe you should go down to Southampton and marry him? Or better yet if he's that important to you go and do us all a favour and support Southampton.. There is so many weirdos on here obsessed with him? Get a grip

How many other clubs are in for signing Ramirez? Says it all really.. I pity you Eds today.......

Reported that Southampton had a £11.8million fee accepted for Ramirez, surely we could match that & at that price considering his age & good chance of a resale value it would be less of a risk?, also do you think it maybe because he is likely to reject them that they have accepted such a low fee considering he was apparently being touted round closer to £15-20million, I would like to see him here along with Sahin & this Moroccan kid who looks class by the way, but I do still feel we need another striker, do you think Wallcot is being looked at as a winger or striker Eds, also we're going for Dempsey, that would give us the 4 Strikers that clubs need these days, if Carroll went do you think we'd be in for another, possibly Ba as part of the deal, although I'm delighted with are business so far & remain positive I just think with already needing to add to the squad depth we have lost a further 4-5 players that also need replacing. I know we will step up some youngsters but think maybe 3-4 new faces still needed, Sahin, Ramirez, the mortician kid(forgot his name sorry) & maybe a striker. But finally must say I get more and more impressed with Rodgers all the time, the way his business is conducted is a credit to him, all very positive .
Cheers Eds, keep up the good work guys any thoughts on us so far?
Johnthered

Ask yourself why Inter, Napoli, Spurs and Liverpool never bid for him.

There must be reasons yet to rear their head.

Wenger Confirms Song Can Go

when asked a double barrel question at his Friday press conference as to the possibility of Song leaving and another big name coming in, the Arsenal manager was unusually candid, "Both could happen,"

When pressed on rumours around the club's interest in Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, Wenger confirmed, "He is one of the players we are following.

Date:Friday August 17 2012
Time: 10:30AM

hey ED does it means arsenal are now favourite to sign sahin. {Ed002's Note - It means he is one of the players they are following. The interest is not new.}

Yann M'Villa is their main midfield target.

17 Aug 2012 11:28:47
Why do people believe Ramirez would be a great signing for us, perhaps when kenny was in charge, but with Brendan's philosophy Ramirez is to slow, has no workrate or pressing capability and goes missing in games. He is a talent with great technique but he wouldn't have done well under rodgers imo, good desision not to sign him. Now sahin on the other hand, he would fit in nicely.

For the reported 11 million a far better option when u have joe cole, pacheco in the squad..agreed his defensive work rate needs to develop but still going forward he is one hell of a player..and he has good pace as well..

Good post i agree he is young and quality .
looks like sahin aint gunna happen either tello wont be coming .
how long must we suffer for last years transfer folly.

cheers mal

Really don't think we were ever in for Ramirez, I think the press got it totally wrong. Didn't they say we had bid something like 14 million? If we did and Southampton have had 12 million accepted then surely logic dictates that our bid would also have been accepted wouldn't it? Also With respect to Southampton why would any player chose them over Spurs or Liverpool if he had the choice? Think about it.

Why is it people don't understand that if we want Ramirez it will cost us alot more than it will cost Southampton, our status as a club is massive so we get over charged for players, why don't people understand this,

Southampton can pay 11 million for Ramirez
Liverpool would have to pay 15 or 16 for Ramirez, come on people wake up

Very concerned that a team like southampton can attract players who know a club as LFC are in there, possibly this is ramieres level

Not really a rumour as such, but was just wondering with on going specualtion that agger may leave, if liverpool instead of looking for a replacement centre back, they would fill the void at the back with lucas leiva. Its been well publicised this week that we dont have large amounts of money and rodgers is not willing to splash the cash. knowing that our remaining money for this summer tranfer window may be spent in other places to strengthen the squad and the midfiled becoming more and more competive for places that this would be more suitable for the team. Abit like the role mascherano made for barcelona moving from the bulk of the midfield to the back. Was just wondering what the eds and everyone elses thoughts where on this?

Would of thought Lucas would be too small mate, Kelly or Coates would move in.
Cal

Lucas signed on as an attacking midfielder, then moved to defensive/holding midfielder, and now you want to play him as a CB. I wouldn't think he would be to happy with that and if I was Pepe i would be wondering if my days are numbered....

Red Sunrise

Why would we put the best holding midfielder in the PL at centre back when we have coates, carra and kelly, if we were not to replace him, these are the cheap alternatives, anyway i`m sick of the whole agger situation,he needs to sign a new contract with us, period

Ramirez snubs Liverpool to sign for Southampton.
Liverpool instead sign some (I'm sure he is fantastic) Moroccan instead........oh dear.

Supasub {Ed002's Note - He did not snub Liverpool. If he snubbed anyone it was Wolfsburg.}

Assiadi to score more goals this season than Ramirez. You heard it here first.

- Something Red -

We never actually made a move for him and Im glad we didnt. Did you hear what he came out and said about how - he's joining southampton coz the money's great and I know they're a promoted team but Im sure its going to be great - haha glad we didn't go near him lol.

"snub"...thats hilarious

Bazingaa

Where has it come from that Liverpool actually wanted Ramirez?

That post just highlights your bitter jealousy, as well as your obvious ignorance of football

How could he snub a team that didn't bid for him? It's like the sig situation we did not bid for him!

Let's see Ramirez's attitude when Southampton are struggling and possibly relegated.

The problem you have is that because we only spent 3mil on the moroccan and not 12mil on ramirez he couldn`t possibly be any good, i`ll tell you what, why don`t we just keep buying overpriced players instead

'Supasub'

I'm sure if Assaidi tries really hard in training and works on his game he might one day be as good as Bebe! or maybe Obertan, Bellion or Kleberson! LOL

Adam Johnson insists he does not want another season of being a bit-part player at Manchester City.

And? If his attitude was better he may have been given more opportunities!

Maybe he's looking forward to being a bit part player at Everton?

Dont rate him - he's Joe Coal down the right.

17 Aug 2012 10:57:44
Gaston ramirez to Southampton for less than £12m (Ssn)!!

That's cheap, why can't we get him?

Sheikhy

Cause he isn't that good and Rogers see it!

Maybe Rodgers doesn't rate him, maybe he's looking for crazy wages..lord knows..to be honest I've not seen him play(other then a few youtube clips) so no loss

Bazingaa

Because maybe we don't want him.

Gaston Ramirez has agreed a deal with Southampton.
That's another I didn't see coming.

Gaston Ramirez is finalising a deal with Southampton for a fee of 11.7 million.

That's such a shame! I'm so confused how Southampton can offer better wages then Tottenham?

Hi Guys, question- where is all this information about Gaston Ramierez coming from? Is it in any way credible? Please respond Ed's.Thanks

Red Tom {Ed002's Note - Italian press. And it is credible.}

Maybe no one was except Southampton?

It's a gamble by Southampton. Because of the new TV deal, if they can stay up they will make more money the following season 2013/14 than Man City made last year when they won the title.

I never knew this site had so many Morroccan speakers, all conversant with tribal dialects too !
You live and learn eh.

Anyways, the old WBA tickets came this morning. Can't wait now. Back on the burger, pies and beer diet. Lovely jubbly, feckin salads all summer been doing my head in.

17 Aug 2012 10:45:18
To be honest assaidi actually looks better than gaston "money talks" ramirez on youtube. {Ed002's Note - Bleating on about Ramirez and money is really making you look pretty embarrassing.}

Why would you call him "moneytalks". do you not think that maybe he wouldn't have joined southampton if this was the case.
derryred

Ed02 you can't be serious! You know more about football then I (well based on your usual comments) and gaston is capable but just barely and clearly he waited for someone to say your so wonderful before he signed for then. AVB would have said you have talent come here and earn your place which annoyed him. Ed 02 no disrespect and love ya work {Ed002's Note - There was some misinformation about the Spurs situation - as I explained last week. Their offer to Bologna was turned down.}

Nigel Adkins and Southampton have ambition and money. The fact that they got him at such a cheap price and for only about £40k a week would suggest it's not so much for money. Most of our players are on that and then some!

ChrisMiz

Assaidi is a smart player. it might take him 2-3 months to get his tempo upto the EPL, but he is a smart player, who makes up for space with tricks on the ball. I would love to see him play alongside Suarez, both of them together shall be a CBs nightmare.

Kudos BR, thats a gr8 buy u made
mgz

He s not joining southampton because he wants to win stuff with them is he??

17 Aug 2012 10:47:17
For the people that say players don't care about the club, just want money bla bla. Can I say I guarantee you that Suarez didn't sign for Liverpool because of his love of the club , he would've Been 4 yrs old roughly the last time Liverpool won the champions league. I'm Uruguayan / Australian and even here (aus) an Anglo country, I didn't grow up watching epl, but I support Liverpool and what you have to realise is players from around the world have their own teams that they support . All other clubs are to better their career but the beauty with Liverpool is that most players ,once they put on the shirt they become fans. So for whatever fee we pay or players ask they will become believers! And the ones that choose other clubs I reel sorry for them it's their loss , the history the support and the club are second to none!
Sorry for the rant
Uruseb

You ruined your argument when you said Suarez was four when we last won the champions league, that would make him eleven years old now. You DINGBAT.

4 years old... do you know the last time liverpool won the champions league?

Suarez was 4 when we last won the champions league? ... That would make suarez 11, correct?

Dunk

Did you forget the famous Champions League win in 2005?!

He was 4 years old in 2005 when we won the champions league, hasn't aged too well has he. An 11 year old playing for Liverpools 1st team............

Can someone just confirm for me is suarez really 11 years old? Because according to this plank suarez was 4 years old last time we won the champions league? I mean has this guy just woken up from a very long sleep? On a brighter note i have to say im happy with the assaidi signing and i like br's eye for players. Its makes a change from signing players for ridiculous amounts of money and crap ball control, cant beat a man, no technique, over rated british players. To be honest its more exciting buying players on the cheap like arsene does and making them world class. RedTurk

Our youth policy is looking up, we have got one of the best strikers in the world at age 11.
Cal

Imagine how good he'll be when he's 25? We've got to keep hold of him.

I think he meant the English Division.

LFC1992

Good reply redturk

Sorry I meant premiership my bad
Uruseb

This is hilarious! Even if the poster is some young new fan and was 11 himself when we won the champions league, it still beggers belief!

Think he meant the league not champions league

Red Raw

Clearly a typo and meant to read "Premier League"

Talk about people wanting to have an easy go - makes them look pretty sad.

17 Aug 2012 10:45:38
Never mind ramirez or Sahlin even, will DEMPSEY be signing for us ?

He will fit into a 433 perfectly and has a tough mental attitude, but most of all he will score goals...!

Dempsey should be target No1.

(well target No4 now)

AGREED. For me he is a better player than VAn Persie, at 1/3 the price. Ill prob get a lot of abuse for this opinion, but if Dempsey goes to Liverpool, he ll get more goal the RVP this season.

Daveevad

17 Aug 2012 10:42:17
RVP, Rooney, Chicarito, Wellbeck and Berbatov all at Man Utd. A team that usually starts with 2 wingers. There is gonna be some unhappy players at Old Trafford this season. Scary amount of talent all the same. A few long term injuries wouldnt go a miss! Nothing life threatening, just a bad hamstring injury or a good old metatarsal injury will do. Just to make it a more level playing field you understand.

The Irish Rover

I think we should rather concentrate on our own team...

Red PG

Berbatov is surely out now. RVP is due an injury and hernandez has hardly left the sick beds since his debut season.

I am pleased we've bought a player who has clear ability and definate potential for 3 mil (Assaidi) instead of for 12+ mil (Ramirez). This is what makes good business and I take my hat off to BR, both players are somewhat of a gamble but wats to say the morrocan lad doesn't go on to become twice the player Ramirez does and if he doesn't he's sellable at little to no loss where as Ramirez could've been another inflated price tag which we'll end up losing money on in the long run like it seems we will with Carroll.

Wenger confirmed he wants sahin in press conf to replace song so we have blown it. All these 100% done deal journos are v quiet now.

How have we blown it? He clearly wanted Champions League or else he'd have signed already. You can't offer something you don't havw

Anybody seen this antique programmes like bargain hunt where once in a while somebody finds something dirt cheap for a couple of quid, they get it valued and it's worth a small fortune?
That's what it feels like buying oussama assaid.
It's like we have been to a car boot sale and bought a real gem.

MIKEY

Everyone wants the hottest girl/expensive players but they often end up being awful and complain.

Everyone knows that fat girls/lesser-known players give the best bread/return-on-investment because they are enthusiastic and looking to please and impress. {Ed002's Note - You need to seek out Ed007 for such discussions. Try the wrestling page.}

17 Aug 2012 10:32:29
Surely this rumour of G Ramirez going to Southampton is a windup.....??

Why would it be a wind up? Know one knows what type of player he is and we won't know until he signs for Southampton. Let's get one thing into perspective here, if u think that players get bought from clips on YouTube then ur very naive. If Liverpool wanted him then he would have signed by now. And for what it's worth iv been told he is a bang average player and cery lazy by someone who has actually watched him play.

17 Aug 2012 10:28:43
Heard a whisper that Carroll's not in the starting eleven nor is he on the subs bench for West Brom. Dialogue is continuing behind the scene between Newcastle and us with a deal in the region of 17 million on the table, Newcastle however do not want to pay more than 12 million. A compromise will happen and a deadline deal will be made.

Liverpool will definatley sign Dempsey as Carroll's replacement.

The wizards sleeve

They don't want to play more than 12 million for him yet we bought him off them for 35 million. that is terrible, newcastle of all clubs should be willing to pay more.

Why should newcastle pay more? ,£12m is probably his market value at the moment. Just because Liverpool were daft enough to offer £35m doesn't mean newcastle are daft enough to pay over the odds. He will most likely stay at liverpool as newcastle will not meet the asking price imo.

17 Aug 2012 10:28:26
Hi ed002 just a quick question,
Do you now that S.sinclair has declined a new contract offer, do you expect liverpool to make a bid for the talented lad or would B.rodgers be reluctant to raid anymore players( but he did say if any players where in the market he would be interested).
Thanks {Ed002's Note - I would not be at all surprised if there was interest from Liverpool.}

17 Aug 2012 10:27:11
Why are people 'surprised' that Arsenal is pushing intensely for Sahin? You were well aware that he had suitors, some of whom better placed than us. Efforts were always going to be made to try sway him some or the other way.

Presently it is unknown what is likely, but we do know that a decision will be made this weekend.
He may or may not come. If he comes, great. Good player. If not, that's that.

I don't see why people should be upset. Sahin is just one of many talented players we are looking to bring in. If it fails we move on with our business.
This bloke is not an LFC player and thus should not be the object of our affections.

Players who matter are those ACTUALLY with us.
People putting the Sahins, Tellos, Walcotts in their XIs is most unfortunate and frankly annoying.

And I believe some of the expressions used on here are rather unhelpful. "He's close", "he's in the bag" etc are most misleading and vague.
Exactly what does "close" entail?

When it's said that Sahin is "close", what does that entail in practical terms? Do we mean a verbal agreement was reached? Do we mean LFC and Madrid officially confirmed the transfer? Do we mean that he's pencilled in for a medical at Melwood?

Applying the above, I think it's fair to say that claiming that Sahin is "close" is most incorrect and therefore misleading. From the information available, the player hasn't definitively agreed to join LFC, or anyone else for that matter, yet.

So I would urge that posters and some of the eds, in particular, refrain from using such expressions as "close". "in the bag" in a as vague a manner that they currently do.

The recent Sigurdsson saga should serve as a timely and aptly reminder for all and sundry.
History may just repeat itself.
Sahin may opt for Arsenal and so many will be enraged at losing out on such a good that they (wrongly) believed "was close" to signing.

Endeavour not to get carried away. You may just be setting yourself up for disappointment

Ray B

Agree a fee with club, Agree terms with player/agent, Have medical. Sign contract.

Sounds straight forward eh?
Fee agreed with club is the easy part, as this allows you to hold talks with the player/agent, which is the worst part. If it drags it shows player / agent pushing and wanting this and that. If its quick and straight forward these are the players you want.
Piddy.

I couldn't agree more with this post. I am so tired of reading "within 48 hours" and "close" and then nothing!! Nice one Ray B

"close": - 'In a position so as to be very near to someone or something; with very little space between'

So 'Sahin is close' suggests that he is on a crowded London Underground, with very little space between him and the other passengers.....
Hope this helps.

Southampton have had a 13 million bid accepted for Ramirez. Why would he go to them? Surely we have to bid

It's £11.8m

17 Aug 2012 10:24:19
Hi folks, if Assaidi gets a good run of games he will be a regular. Hazard £32M - Assaidi £2.4M. It will be very interesting to compare them both at the end of season! I think our player is better value and equally as good.

No I'm sorry but this post is deluded. Hazard is already a much better player in a better league for a better team. Assaidi is never going to be as good as Hazard, he lacks that level of natural talent.
Just have to face facts; we either sign players no-one else better than us wants or complete unknowns who we have to hope come good in the end.
Very hard season ahead.

With that logic why buy a Ferrari when you can have a Skoda

With that logic it's more like comparing whether the Ferrari or the Skoda gets you to the furthest for the least ammount of money. Assaidi may take us all the way.

- Logic

Ferrari may cost more and look flash, but at the end of the day, you're going to wind up at the same destination in the Skoda...

I don't know if he's having me on could you confirm weither he is still in Spain or not?

Maybe Moroccan?

17 Aug 2012 10:21:20
There's some supporters on here who make me sick with their materialistic views. They seem to believe that if a player doesn't cost the earth then he must be no good. These same people are probably the ones who cry when say Arsenal, Newcastle or Everton pick up a bargain and yap about how come Liverpool didn't go for him..

17 Aug 2012 10:15:26
I used to defend people on here for voicing there opinions on players by saying they're entitled to there opinion, but I'm starting to change my mind because I'm sick of fans slating players before they join, now they're criticising Brendan's choice of a new winger because the poor little meemoo's havn't heard of him, well picture this we sign him Liverpool get slated we don't sign him and Martin jol sign him and he plays well and then the persons say on here why don't Liverpool ever go out and spend 3 million on a player instead of the money we have done on some of the British players that's the scenario that would of happened.

For once try and give full support to Liverpool cheers pk

Well said lad,

I been saying the same on LFC forums, some of these negative morans really get under my skin with there piss poor attitudes.

After this transfer window, can we never write the name of Gaston Ramirez again?

I've never been so fed up of seeing the same name over and over again. It's actually on par with that stupid celebration Yohan Blake does.

He's knocked Ken Aguero off his perch.

The fixation on particular players is amazing. The Ramirez lovers gotta get a girlfriend and stop creaming their pants over a footballer man-crush.

The free kick aside he actually wasn't any good in the olympics, he looked slow thinking and clumsey to me.

I think these owners are living on fantasy island if they believe you can get top 4 without spending these days. {Ed052's Note - We do actually really need another CM, and Sahin fits the bill well}

He s better than all but one or two of our midfielders

Eds do u think he will pick us over arsenal and ac thanks {Ed002's Note - There is also interest from Turkey. I cannot say where he will end up.}

I'd say two, he's not better than Gerrard or Lucas (duno about allen)

Liverpool ins:

Borini 10 million
Asdaidi 3 million
Sahin loan
Tello loan
Matias Suarez 10 million

Outs: kuyt 1 million
Adam 5 million
Spearing 3 million
Carrol 17 million

About 12 net spend and about 8 million saved in wages. In addition we would have one of the best young squads in the prem.

U cant talk about money for players that havent been sold u are speculating rumours

17 Aug 2012 09:01:15
Looks like Gaston Ramirez is going to Southampton for approx £12 million. I can only imagine huge wages were offered. Quotes from Ramirez on a website website. Surely other teams including LFC must have bid? {Ed002's Note - Others did bid as has been well documented.}

17 Aug 2012 08:59:46
SSN reporting Southampton had bid for Ramirez accepted. 11.6 m. Cant see him going there to be honest, but anyone think we will bid now. Just had a look on Youtube at Assaidi, and he looks pure quality. Have a look at the goal he scored on 'Welcome to Galatasary, and forward to 2 mins 30. So Cheeky. Would love to see that in the last minute at Old Trafford. I know Youtube isnt a great way to look at players, but hes got it all! Good Times Ahead!

The signing of Oussama Assaidi heralds the imminant departure of Dani Pacheco. Assaidi is taller and physically stronger than Pacheco and apparently has a better training ethic. Aston Villa have expressed some interest in Pacheco however he will probably go back abroad. A shame, because he is a genuinly talented young man. RED LENIN

Gaston Ramirez going to Southampton? Bid accepted, could this start a bidding war now? {Ed002's Note - Neither Inter nor Napoli will pay enough for the player, so no.}

Out amazes more that of we'd have paid 7-8 mill for him on exactly the same circumstances ie relative unknown, bolt from the blue but btw was actually Dutch instead of Morrocan, it'd been dseen as a coup. One up on or rivals. Strangest bloody mind set I've ever seen some people on here.
Jonson

Well like me id say 99% of posters on here have only seen Ramirez r assadi on sites that show their good moments we dont know whats the player like to talk to has he got the mentality to be a liverpool player, have to say reading about Assadi how his career developed i like the fact he didnt start off great but turned it around to be sought after by Ajax the top team in Holland i have a sneaky feeling we might have done a good bit of buisness here .Tommy Irish Red

That would indicate that he isn't good enough to play for Holland.

17 Aug 2012 09:37:30
good signing in assaidi.tricky player- could be the next cristiano when he matures.- adam johnson want out at city and Lfc seems to be his preferred choice (obviously)- 12/13 mil could seal it!- he had a good 90minz vs italy aswell.

10 million is a fair price.

He's 24 yrs old. He won't mature much more talent wise

cozinoz

Could be the next ronaldo when he matures. . . . he is 24 ronaldo is 27 and at 24 was already one of the best players in the world. . . . now i hope im wrong but this guy is an average signing. . . . id have rather kept the money and played sterling more

So if he gets 15-20 goals each season will you still want the money then? 3 mil for 80 goals wouldn't be bad business considering the ROI would be far better than Christiano Ronaldo for Madrid.

17 Aug 2012 09:34:02
So now Southampton can even buy players we were reportedly after. Brendan Rodgers has stated that we must sell to raise money if we wish to buy anyone else. What the hell is going on at our once famous club - oh, and we are buying a winger that no-one has heard of.

And had you heard of Ramirez before all the rumours kicked off on here. Be honest now..I'm sure you weren't an avid follower of Bologna as much as you are not of Heerenveen.

Just because you have not heard of someone doesn't mean they are not good, as I imagine your knowledge comes from a fairly blinckered view

If we wanted Ramirez we would have got him so stop spitting your dummy out of the pram you tool!

What an personic post! Did you ever stop to think that we mightn't actually want Gaston Ramires - BR has spent well so far and in BR I trust so give it a rest will you.

Stop moaning!!!!!!!

big bill

I don't think that we were actually ever interested in Ramirez after Comolli left the club.
I think that if he was really that good the giants in Italy would have made more of an effort to snap him up, Ac Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli, Roma. If he was that good surely the biggest clubs in Italy would have been breaking their necks to get him. Where with Assaidi the two biggest clubs in Holland were trying to get him, Ajax and PSV. Ajax in particular really made a strong attempt to get him. It says a lot for me if the best clubs in that country really try to push the boat out to get the player before he goes abroad.
Fulham, Galatasary and Spartak Moscow were all interested aswell. You may say 'what fulham?!' but if anyone knows their Dutch football it's Martin Jol.
Oh and he was only as cheap as £3 million because he was in the last year of his contract.

17 Aug 2012 09:29:03
I hope Southampton sign Ramirez......that's about his level. I know all the fantasy football managers on here want him desperately but reality check.....he ain't as good as he is on championship manager!!

17 Aug 2012 09:28:52
I will know list as many wingers as I can that we could have signed instead of this Moroccan muppet;

Jovetic - 20m+
Ramirez - 12m+
Callejon - 15m+
Walcott - 10m+
Tello - loan
Sinclair - 7m+
Dempsey - 8m+
Mirallas - 7m+
Moses - 8m+
Johnson - 8m+
Kalou - FREE

And who do we sign? A Heereveen winger who Fulham wanted? Well once again Liverpool you give people false hope, at least this time it has come before the start of the season. I guess that means Ramirez and 4th spot is off to the Lane then. {Ed002's Note - It remains a great at some fans still trash Liverpool players before they kick a ball.}

Im agreeing with the ed

When will people realise BR does not want out & out wingers??
half of the above you can scrub off because of this straight away!.

Get a grip and SUPPORT, pleb.
Piddy.

And your point is what?? You deem yourself a better talent scout? That he was wanted by Fulham means what? When we all know Fulham has some decent if not good players in their reanks, Dembele & Dempsey for instance. As the Eds always explain, these things are more complicated than we think! We should support our players, and its obvious that you have never seen the Assaidi playing because he will prove you wrong

Jovetic - a striker with an injury record and a rediculously high fee.
Ramirez - not a pacy winger, and we just DIDN'T WANT him
Callejon - more of a striker, and come on, spaniards are overpriced right now. How much have you seen of him to be willing to value him at 15+?
Walcott - his wages would be an issue, but he might still be an option
Tello - obviously he decided not to come to us, and Assaidi was a plan B
Sinclair - might still be an option, and not sure if he is better than Assaidi
Dempsey - still an option
Mirallas - ed052 described Assaidi as a "more mature version of Mirralas" - this telling you something?
Moses - Chelsea bound, and not that skillful
Johnson - too much baggage, and frankly, not that much better than Downing
Kalou - seriously?

All to all, I want to abuse you very badly, but I am desperately trying not to. Assaidi is a low-risk investment that MIGHT come good. However, as a true fan I will get behind the team and hope that the lad has what it takes to set the Prem on fire. In the least, he seems better than 1/3 of the wingers on your list, and is 10 times cheaper than most of the others.

Drigan

How can youcall him a muppet when you haven't seen him play. You list all these "wingers" look at the prices of the players you've listed and the price of assaidi max 5mil he's young quick n skillful and scores goal in my opinion that's a bargin ieven if he sits on the bench and is used as a super sub jus give people a chance I sometimes wwonder how people like you call yourself fans of this great club

Get a life mate get off football manager and off the manager, owners and players back support the team if you wanna if not piss off don't need people like you supporting Liverpool

Can I point out that Sami Hyppia, now a Liverpool legend, came to Liverpool at the age of 26 for 2.7 million. An unknown who went on to be one of the top defenders ever to be in the Premiership... your premature with your assumptions.

Is he a fan? Listen, what you have to remember is that the current model that football is run will come crashing down one day, not too far away. This is the only free market in the world where the cost paid is not related to future performance on the pitch, except for the odd handful of players and those who are lucky enough to play with them.....so all coming on here a making a list of players does tells me is that you like playing Top Trumps. You are a muppet. If you get behind the new lad, you give him wings, his COST starts to outweigh his VALUE, becUse of the SUPPORT he gets. No go back to fifa 12 before Wayne Rooney scores another 8 goals for Barcelona versus Tranmere......or whoever.

Morrocan muppet?
You're an person.

This guy is obviuosly not a real fan cause real fans get behind the team! Every signing doesn't have to be a big name mate ! We didn't know much about alonso or reina when they signed and look at away a succes they were - so leave it out will uou

Agree with ED 02 totally, were does this guy think star players come from its moves like this to find hidden talent, ok if it doesn't pay off its only 2-3 million not 20 million... How does he think RVP, Tevez, Messi, Ronaldo etc came through they were all small players at smaller clubs scouted and found and bought into bigger leagues. Simple!

Whoever posted this rubbish cannot be a liverpool supporter, its a wind up, ignore it totally

Tel 1949

This post is a disgrace..

CLR

To ED 02 ; It's perhaps not worth dignifying most of these computer game fantasists with a reply. The school holidays and bad weather must be a trying combination for you Eds during the transfer-window!?
For the record, I watched a Heerenveen game last year (partly) because we were linked with Narsingh. Also, I had nothing else planned. The player that really caught my eye was "This Moroccan muppet" ....he's two-footed, quick, skillful and fits Brendans style.
Sahin and Dempsey would complete the jigsaw but I can only hope.
ANFIELDPETE {Ed002's Note - I know little of him but I am sure if BR thinks he is worth buying then he will be a good addition to the squad.}

17 Aug 2012 09:27:16
Sorry not Liverpool related but Ed002 if you are around
what the hell is this Barton to Marseilles for a year?

Puzzled {Ed002's Note - If it happens it will only be because QPR agree to pick up most of his wages. Marseille are stuggling somewhat financially.}

17 Aug 2012 09:22:45
Quote from Gaston Ramirez on his move to Southampton - "It is an offer that you cannot refuse. They will give me so much money (2 million net per year and more than 1 million signing-on fee)." (source ESPN webiste)

I'm glad we didn't sign him, sounds like he's after money. Definetly not something were after in a player. {Ed052's Note - Haha, just what I said}

2 million per year, that is around 40k per week. I Guess Tottenham offered similar wages. Eds? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what Spurs offered. Perhaps you should not forget about the signing on fee.}

It's amazing that he's actually publicy come out and said that, haha oh my god glad we didn't go for him!

Isn't it more like 90k a week?

The point isn't whether it's 90K a week, 40K or 200K. The point is that the statements reflect an attitude that will never change.

Most fans would be happy with a weeks wages most players make to last them a year or to invest, spend on the kids, whatever!

17 Aug 2012 09:21:22
hey ed is it true that bologna have accepted southampton's bid for ramirez? {Ed052's Note - Yes}

17 Aug 2012 09:19:53
Ramirez due to sign for Southampton for 12m according to sly sports. Eds can you tell me why we haven't bid for him when he's looking to go to a promoted team? The lad has obvious quality {Ed052's Note - We havent brought him becuase we have other targets who we think are better players.}

I think that the fact the only team interested in Ramirez enough to place a bid is Southampton. no offense to them but if they guy was as good as were led to beleive he is then you would have to expect bigger teams than Southampton putting a bid in!
Good luck to them.. i hope they do well and he is a great player for them but im glad we have other options on the table.
ItsNotRocketscience

It's not just us, if he chose Southampton over Liverpool, Inter and many others then what does that tell you. {Ed002's Note - He did not want to go to Wolfsburg. neither Inter nor Napoli wanted to pay that amount. He did not choose Southampton over Liverpool.}

Lots of teams bid and he is absolute quality to.

He's a money grabber - did you actually hear what he came out and said?! About joining Southampton for the money! Haha made up we didn't move for him in the end. He looked rubbish in the olympics anyway, apart from one free kick which the keeper should have saved!
If he was that good all the big clubs in Italy would have been breaking their backs to sign him and they weren't!

17 Aug 2012 09:19:26
with southampton having had a bid of 11.8 million accepted for ramirez...... are we missing something here? my impression was that price was the main issue for us (weren't we quoted 25 million euros just weeks ago?) surely if we have any interest, this represents excellent value and we should move to match it? then again, the local rag has again last night linked sinclair to us following the clarification of his position, although he is expected to play Swansea's opening fixtures and only move within last few days of window.

17 Aug 2012 09:19:10
Gaston Ramirez is set to sign a long term deal with Premier League new-boys Southampton for a fee believed to be in the region of £11.8 million, a record deal.

Why where we talking of signing him for £18 million, does everyone try and rip us off?

An in depth reply would be appreciated Ed's.

RedsMatt {Ed052's Note - Look, the deal seems incredible cheap,l but there will be a catch. Add ons will probably be extremely high, perhaps 6 million, to make the deal worth 18m. But I dont want Liverpool fans complaining ok. If we wanted him we could have got him. But think about it, he been trying all summer to move, speaking to loads of different clubs. We dont want a player like that. If the fee has no add ons, why so cheap? maybe he isnt as good as first seemed etc etc. Also, he might not settle in England, homesick, to physical etc etc. SO please dont comp-lain. We havent missed out on a target becuase we never went for him. I understand others see it another way, but its just football, and you have to move on haha. He might not even work in this league. Sorry for the rant, but it had to be said!!}

I've thought for a while he's as good as the press and people on here make out, why isn't everyone chasing him?
The fact is the other managers just dont seem to see him as a good signing.

Agree to the Ed.

17 Aug 2012 09:17:17
Liverpool focus too much on Shahin and thats why not much intarest on Ramirez. he been sold £12m to sothampton. we buy Downing £20m and Ramirez only £12m our choice is good.

red-don

Dude, put it down to high wage demands, be thankful he didn't sign for us and and move on. Pretty obvious really. I had to double check for a second if I was still in Liverpool banter, thought I'd accidentally clicked on a link ending up on the southampton banter page with all this ramirez to southampton stuff!

Cuchulainn's Hounds

17 Aug 2012 09:16:16
Bologna accept 11.8 million pound bid from Southampton for Gaston Ramirez. Is this a joke. Surely not. Bologna quoted 20 million euros- £16 million pounds. I will be gutted that we didn't try to sign him for 11 million. The lad is class. We will defo miss out on Nuri Sahin too.

Cheers

Markolfc85

17 Aug 2012 09:12:18
Bologna and Southampton agree £11.8mil fee for Ramirez. At least until put a stop to the endless posts on here!

RedRob

17 Aug 2012 09:12:10
Gaston ramirez must truly not have been a target, saints have picked him up for £12m. Eds wondering whether u expect any strikers to be chased, losing kuyt and bellers we seemed shirt of striking ops last season, borini is exciting addition but that leaves us with three, with carroll possibly out we seem a bit short up top.
Tex {Ed002's Note - Borini has arrived. Dempsey remains an option. Pacheco, Morgan?}

I agree need strikers, Morgan is only a kid and I dont see Danny scoring loads hes more of a creative player. Would love to see a Goal scorer added and Suarez really isn't one hes more creative, Carroll is more of a sub now and we can't relay on Borini to get all the goals hes only just signed poor lad.

17 Aug 2012 09:12:03
How has southampton agreed a fee for Ramirez for less than 12 million and we haven't bothered at all!frustrated!!
Callum

17 Aug 2012 09:11:33
Is Sahin coming or not? Yesterday said tomorrow, today said tomorrow

17 Aug 2012 09:07:35
Gaston Ramirez to......wait for it......Southhampton! Im sure he will reject their contract because he wants 75,000+
Redmanluka

17 Aug 2012 09:07:27
Hi eds! So reports are sugesting sahin is waiting 2 see what happens with song surley if this is true we need 2 pull away from t'he deal and look at other targets rodgers says he wants players who want 2 play for t'he shirt we should not be anyones 2nd choice!why do we take so so long 2 tie up deals its so frustrating!!

17 Aug 2012 09:06:34
Bologna accepted a 11.8m bid for Ramirez. SSN reporting. Isn't that less than Spurs bid?

17 Aug 2012 09:05:58
Gaston Ramirez has signed to play in the Premier League for...Not Spurs, not Liverpool....for Southampton for 15mil euro....jeez...whats next...Messi to Blackpool maybe...lol

He turned down reported interest from spurs city Liverpool Wolfsburg Napoli inter to sign for Southampton. I really like the lad as a player so happy he is playing in the prem plus not for our rivals.

17 Aug 2012 09:04:51
Eds,

Do we, or have we, had any interest in Jordy Clasie, or Lewis Holtby? I'm thinking of potential Sahin standins. {Ed002's Note - Search function.}

17 Aug 2012 09:03:47
Southampton have had a fee of around £11.5m accepted for Gaston Ramirez.
Source- on a website..
The guy who posted yesterday about this and got slated by everybody was spot on.

17 Aug 2012 09:02:59
Anybody else listen to radio 5 live last night? Hour long LFC special, Gary Gillespie (sp?) said there will be one or two more signings. Tom Werner (sp?) said there will be more signings to come. Gary's words were live. Don't know how recent Tom interview was though. Redevon

17 Aug 2012 08:36:16
No need for any more gaston ramirez to liverpool rumours...... hes on the verge of signing for southampton..... oh well look on the brightside least we signed a player for £2mill that no one has ever heard off... never thought everton would laugh at the players we sign!!!

17 Aug 2012 08:36:09
Here comes the wrath of the fans because bologna have accepted a bid from Southhamton! Wow

Square tomato

The backlash will come from the ignorant trolls Square Tomato. Gaston Ramirez has been thoroughly looked at (IMO) and if he was a true target we'd have signed him. The boy lacks a work-ethic (never chases back) and looks like a money-grabber.
ANFIELDPETE

17 Aug 2012 08:36:00
Has anyone seen assadi play or is he another el Zhar. I really hope not but Martin jol rates him.

Scouse ben

Well if Martin jol rates him, he must be really....average!

Jol rated Suarez veryn highly before everyone in England beleived he was a world class player

17 Aug 2012 08:34:16
All the talk of Ramirez, and Southampton have bid accepted. Wonder how much of a priority signing he was considered to be?
The Rev

17 Aug 2012 08:33:28
Bologna have accepted a bid from Southampton for Gaston Ramirez! Another one I didn't see coming.

17 Aug 2012 08:29:06
If Southampton sign Gaston Ramirez, then I'll be delighted for them. It's nice to see a promoted club, using that television money to try and stay in the league. I don't mean being reckless, just spending it wisely.

I will however point out that I'd imagine a lot of the fans on this site will be up in arms. Now I'm not a scout, but surely if Ramirez was the next big superstar (as you'd believe on here), then a bigger club would be signing him. Reported interest from Inter, Napoli and LFC is just that. It's not definite, we've considered the player as have others but not felt he's deemed the fee and wages being demanded. That's our decision, so I hope people accept it was made fora reason.

Papa G

16 Aug 2012 23:49:29
Hi Ed's,

Are there any of our younger players of interest to any premier league or teams deemed to be challenging for the Championship for loan?

I.e. Danny Wilson, Suso, Wisdom, Coady?

Hoola {Ed002's Note - Loans will be sorted out over the next couple of weeks or so.}

17 Aug 2012 08:55:10
Hi Eds,

Do you have any concrete info on the Sahin transfer? Hearing many rumours saying the transfer will go through in 48 hours since Monday. Now there's rumours Arsenal are back in for him.

Are we jumping the gun a bit here like we did with Sigurdsson?

Thanks {Ed052's Note - No, we expect him still to sign}

17 Aug 2012 08:53:07
Hi eds when someone sasid earlier in the week ramirez to southampton one of the eds had a laugh and brushed it off...its now happening andf a bid was accepted this morning.

Lyon king {Ed052's Note - IKR, strange things happen in football!!}

17 Aug 2012 08:53:03
Is shin sahin signing for the reds today ? {Ed052's Note - Probably I would have thought. Im not sure on timings but he could sign today, as Rodgers hinted.}

17 Aug 2012 08:50:53
Well can now put Ramirez rumour to bed, as he has agreed to join southampton, what a transfer for them

17 Aug 2012 08:50:18
I hope this will clearup everybody regarding Gaston Ramirez, and Thanks God how many times he has signed for LFC...phewww....
"ky Sports understands Southampton have agreed a club record deal with Bologna for Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez.

The 21-year-old had been approached by Tottenham, Liverpooland Inter Milan earlier this summer.

But now newly-promoted Southampton are on the verge of a huge coup by landing the midfielder, who has just had an excellent Olympic campaign for Uruguay.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins was looking for a big name attacking midfielder and had failed with a bid for PSV Eindhoven's Dutch international Jeremain Lens, but he switched his attentions to Ramirez and looks to have got his man.

Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese has brokered the deal, which is believed to be worth 15million (£11.8million).

Ramirez has confirmed he is ready to fly to England to conclude a move to St Mary's."

Tbh I didn't rate him at all in the olympics. He had one good free kick and hit the cross bar. He actually looked slow and cumbersome, so am quite glad we didn't go for him!

17 Aug 2012 08:50:06
Southampton agree fee with Ramirez haha

17 Aug 2012 08:49:11
Ramirez signed for southampton! £11.6m {Ed052's Note - As I have been saying, I cannot see him agreeing terms.}

17 Aug 2012 08:48:19
So all the ITK people who said LFC to sign Ramirez - looks like hes on his way to Southampton.

Thank God that can be put to bed with Mata and Ken Aguero!

NS

Cavani and Higuain still waiting mate..LOL

Red PG

17 Aug 2012 08:40:08
Gaston Ramirez signing for SOUTHAMPTON!!??
Around £12M for the midfielder.
Who saw that one coming too??

May be he is not our management target. it's a very good price to get a good player.

That has to be one of the biggest coups in the last 10 years. They will sell him on for about 30 million no doubt.

Or he could fail miserably like Aquilani

17 Aug 2012 08:37:39
Probably been said many times, so may not get through, but loving the fact that nobody saw this signing coming.
The Rev

17 Aug 2012 08:08:06
Are Mankini and Red Nose behind Arsenals interest in Sahin? Neither are yet convinced enough to make a straight bid so are trying to get him to go their feeder club

Dave

17 Aug 2012 08:06:33
According to a web site, Scott Sinclair has told Swansea he will not be staying. Possibly a move to Liverpool in the offing? Jamie

17 Aug 2012 08:00:57
Eds is it true that arsenal have asked sahin to not join the reds ? With song poss moving arsenal are after him - I hope not as I would like to see him at anfield. {Ed002's Note - Arsenal has been interested all along.}

17 Aug 2012 07:56:16
I haven't been on here in quite a while, so i've not been keeping track of various rumours.

But, did anybody honestly see Assaidi as a potential target?

Red7.

17 Aug 2012 08:25:12
Liverpool were interested in Walcott but have no intention to match his wage demands of £100k/wk. We wouldn't even go up to £70k/wk for him

AZ

17 Aug 2012 08:21:55
aint it funny how we buy a player for under 3M and all the fans are delighted but we spend 15M on a player that is better and he is not good enough. i am happy that the manager knows what he is doing and has a far better insight in the transfers of players than me. i love the new positivity lets keep it going and get behind the club and push them on.ray3037

17 Aug 2012 08:15:41
Does no one else think we need a striker??

If we get Dempsey we will have four with Carroll Suarez and Borini

Agree, we need a goal monster.

17 Aug 2012 07:28:59
To all fellow Liverpool fans, who are thinking or know they will be at a game this season, the management team, the players and lfc on a whole need us behind them this season. Let's really show them our backing, let's live and belive cheering everything, raising our teams work rate by our songs, making sure non of our players and management team walk alone, lets make it hell for the other teams, letting everyone know we are liverpool fc and you do not want to play us, some parts over the last few seasons it hasnt been the same atmosphere, let's up it! I belve that we can have a massive impact on how our team do this season,

we came not to play......

LFCNath

17 Aug 2012 07:28:08
I dont think Sahin will sign - i dont think we need him.

think about it - we've just signed Allen and we have Lucas fot the DM position, plus Spearing if he isnt sold (and please dont start slating him) is there for backup.

we then (currently) have Gerro, Hendo and Shelvey for RCM and Adam and Cole for LCM.

Since our stating front three are probably Suarez -Assaidi - Suarez - Borini, that leaves Carroll and Downing as backup, with Sterling and Cole in emergancies. that's it.

who would we rather sign - another cm or another striker/winger?

on the subject, how is Lamela doing these days?

Do you know how good sahin is?? {Ed052's Note - Amazing, I will put a player profile up on him after}

17 Aug 2012 07:03:26
What is Sahin situation now EDS?
Pls post it
Thanks a lot {Ed023's Note - Read the posts}

17 Aug 2012 06:52:43
A little concerned about the Sahin deal. According to various sources on twitter, Arsenal have asked him to stall on a deal until they know what is happening with Alex Song.

Gav the Red {Ed023's Note - I doubt that is true}

17 Aug 2012 03:26:46
Hey eds what is your opinion on sahin could the sale of Van Persie prompt arsenal into a move, or do u still expect him to come to Liverpool

Texas Red {Ed023's Note - Unless Sahin reverts to a striker then you have nothing to worry about. I am pretty sure Arsenal may try follow up their initial interest in Alvaro Negredo}

17 Aug 2012 01:10:45
Hi eds please answer and is it likely that Sahin could just be cover up and being so openly reported that we go for some one else ? I mean look at tello and we signed assaidi,

Thanks

Will {Ed023's Note - No, no hidden messages here & who said our pursuit of Tello has ended?}

17 Aug 2012 00:41:06
Hi eds, is it true that Sahin prefers Arsenal and will hold off any agreement with LFC until they know what is happening with Song? I tried to search but couldn't find anything directly relating to this. Thanks guys, keep up the good work we all appreciate it {Ed023's Note - No it isn't true and I am willing to say Sahin may well transfer to Liverpool today on loan}

16 Aug 2012 23:26:21
Eds how do you you suppose signing Assiadi will affect the Dempsey deal, esp considering we might've just nicked Fulham's replacement for him? Thx- Azkop {Ed029's Note - Dempsey is up for sale so although it might make them less keen to sell him to us (which I doubt as business is business and I believe he wants to come to us)I still personally think there is a good chance he will come in to replace Carroll.}

17 Aug 2012 07:31:36
just wonder why we are willing to let Pacheco leave? I know there are rumours of him having attitude problems but surely that can worked on. He's looked good in pre-season, Rogers style of play suits him and the lads got serious talent.

We're alledgedly looking at Adam Johnson who is meant to have a poor attitude too so I don't really see it as a good enough reason to let the lad go.

Or is there something more to it?

Will not happen, but I would like to see Liverpool make a move at Welbeck, I mean he is now stuck on the Bench, and far too talented for any bench! Also Sahin, is a must, if we get him, pieces of the Brenny Puzzle are coming in. Youth and Talent, and depth are key!, Also Carroll If he does well give him till Jan, if he doesn't improve, sell him in winter! and keep up the Hopes! Why not go for it all!
YNWA Harry Yank! {Ed049's Note - Welbeck just signed a new contract extension and as if United will do business with Liverpool. LOL}

Very worried we may lose out on the sahin deal with him I thought we could push for top 4 without I'm not so sure I'm still hopeful for the season but a concerned about missing out and being stuck with Adam who has proved ge can't play a quick fluid passing style of play anyways I'll trust Rodgers but really hope he has a backup plan also I'm sorry I don't think shelved is ready for the first team just yet a little reckless in tackles for me sorry for the negative post but I am just a little concerned

Like almost everyone on here, I'd never heard of Assaidi before a short few hours ago. Spent the intervening time scouring the web, Youtube, and everything in between. From what I can tell, 2 things are pretty clear: the kid has pace and amazing ball handling capabilities. I don't know what the future will hold for him, but at the price paid he looks a very exciting (yeah, there's that word) prospect to me and I can't wait to see him on the pitch.

I think it's entirely possible that a front 3 of Borini, Assaidi, and Suarez backed up by Gerrard, Allen, and Lucas could do some serious damage in the league. And it's entirely possible (if not likely?) that BR isn't done yet and there are few more turns of the crank in store before the window closes.

I don't think I've been this excited (that word keeps cropping up, doesn't it?) for the start of a season in quite some time. Here's hoping things play out well for us and welcome Borini, Assaidi, and Allen (21, 24, and 22 years old respectively) to the family! The future is looking mighty bright, I think, especially with Suarez and Lucas only being 25 as well plus all the amazing talent coming up from the youth squad.

Have we lost out on Sahin, Arsenal fans seem convinced Wegner has made him delay his decision on joining us. They think he would always chose them over us and are actually gloating because they believe they are superior because they are in the Champs league, but I'm confused, aren't they are just a feeder clubs to the Manchester teams? Also they never actually achieve anything domestically as well as been perennial also rans in Europe, they are certainly not one the elite, who can actually win the damn CL, I just can't figure out why a selling underachieving team should think they are better than anyone else.

Assaidi could be a great signing, young age, very pacey and has a good deal of trickery in his locker. He is a two footed player who will challenge Downing and Sterling for a place on the left wing.

Left Wing : Assaidi, Downing, Sterling
Right Wing : Borini and new signing hopefully Ramirez
Striker : Suarez, Carroll

They are not signing gaston ramirez but heard confirm that christian tello is about to make a move to anfield in 48 hours.

2 feet. Thats a start.

Doh..which bit of "can play on either side" didn't you get?

all our wingers (if we are gonna call them that, I'm sure Rogers see's them as RF or LF) will be capable of playing either side, Downing can play on the left or right, Assaidi can play on the left or right(has played centrally aswel), Borini can play anywhere across the front 3, Suarez can play anywhere across the front 3, Cole can play on the left or right, Sterling can play on the left or right and if we do sign Dempsey he can also play anywhere across the front line. Thats 3 or 4 players who can play anywhere across the front 3 and a total of 7 players who can play wide for us!!
Andy carol is our only out and out striker, not sure if he will stay as you can clearly see the type of player Rogers is after, versatility, speed, movement and skill are the main ingredients.

It is so good to see our manager not spending crazy money on average players. Shrewd signings that fit in to an ethos. They don't need to be expensive, they just need to fit in with the philosophy. The way it should have always been. And a modern manager who understands all facets of the modern game.

It is a breath of fresh air compared the last 18 months!

I am so excited about the new season ahead. Something I haven't for a few years.

Ash

Ah good so we won't hear you moaning about players and management for a while?

Lets not kill his buzz, mate. Enjot the sunshine for a moment. I am with you on this one Ash. Very excited.

Andy K

Only the last 18 months?

JRG

You will only hear me moaning if we start putting in silly money bids for mediocre players. And, to be fair, I had every right to moan. We were dire last season. Brendan is now trying to reverse most of the damage Kenny did in the transfer market.

Ash

So none of the damage done in the transfer market is down to any of the previous managers before Dalglish?

We were just as dire before Dalglish.

JRG

I was focusing on the last regime JRG.

So we can put this straight now - Unless BR or any of the backroom lfc staff happen to write a cheeky post on here letting us in on all their transfer plans, regardless of your 'source' you probably have next to no idea of knowing who the real targets are. Glad to see it being done the Liverpool way hats off to Rodgers. Future looks bright, let's hope to see more in before the window shuts!

Hi Ed's
Have we ever looked at Oussama Assaidi or MBark Boussoufa?
Cheers {Ed002's Note - Assaidi looks to be Fulham bound. Boussoufa will not be for sale and his wages would not be matched by Liverpool. Historically I don't know if there was interest.}

So?.. After that post, a fee was agreed with Ajax for Assaidi... why didn't you post then. in fact. this has absolutely no relevance to anything. blah.

I just think it was guesswork by the original poster regarding Assaidi and Boussoufa and last season ended on the 13th of May. Its since Kenny's time then we have been interested in him.

I think that we could have a very decent starting eleven, Reina,Johnson,Skrtl,Agger,Enrique,Lucas,Allen,Gerrard,Suarez,Borini,Assaidi with Downing,Henderson,Carroll,Sterling,Sahin & Galacsi on the bench, that actually fills me with confidence!

Assaidi will be the bench!

Hi guys/gals/eds/THATS the type of money(assaidi) the club should layout for prospects/potential ,this way he can be eased in slowly and not like last season when certain players were not able to live upto their transfare fees and got played anyway, who knows he might be a big hit right away and wouldnt that be nice, kinda exciting certainly something to look forward too.(godin)

16 Aug 2012 23:55:03
Hi,
This site keeps the transfer window very interesting and entertaining! Regarding the situation with Daniel Agger, I think the outcome could indicate how commited FSG are to the moneyball system. I also fear that they could be missing the (even bigger) picture. I'm sure we are on the road to success but I wonder if will it hinder our attempts to sign the better players if they know that as soon as they hit the age where Liverpool feel they could start losing value they will be shipped out whether they like it or not. The cynics will say players will sign for the club that pays most money but Agger himself is an example that there can be more than that to it, like becoming part of a legacy,an option which will not appear to be on offer at Liverpool if we sell our players prematurely. Cork boi

Do people STILL believe FSG use a Moneyball system?

cozinoz

I'm sure they do. Quite a few still seem to think the owners are banking a wad of cash from the club and giving it to the Red Sox too.

16 Aug 2012 23:33:12
Spent the last hour or so looking at Dutch newspaper reports and fans websites looking for info on our new signing. (I speak Dutch in case you wonder how).

Anyway, it seems that he was close to signing for Galatasaray earlier in the summer and that a deal with Ajax seemed to be as good as done within the last week but personal terms may have been an issue. Fulham were then sniffing around.

Looked at the Ajax fans' online forum about him and they in general seemed to be delighted that he was going to be signing for them and to be playing in a 4 3 3 formation. They saw him playing on the right.

Saw another post indicating that if he could show
his talent on a more consistent basis he would be a brilliant signing for them.

I deliberately haven't looked at youtube yet or eds player profile but it seems that for 3m we have got a player with lots of talent relatively cheaply - its whether he can produce that consistently.

Off to watch youtube now - can I retract this post if he looks crap Eds?

Jan

Good post Jan! Thanks for the insight...done in an intelligent and objective way...refreshing!

2nd time poster. Just had to say that I love the Assaidi piece of business. This is the Liverpool way. Do your homework and keep it quiet. To be honest, I've never heard of him. Lad looks really handy. The clip on the LFC site shows he has 2 good feet and is strong on the ball. Those dutch defenders don't mess around and he seems to hold them off weel, reminds me of Suarez a bit in the way he's unpredictable and can pass players (wow, an LFC winger who can beat a man ala McManaman).
I also laugh when reading the rumours page as most of the people obviously haven't got a clue about any dealings, just want to sound like they have for some reason. I for one am secure enough to admit I have no sources, contacts or even left field guesses concerning player transfers.

You know what, this new guy comes from the Dutch league and cost 3 million. Please be realistic and dont expect him to pull up any trees. At best he'll be a new Luis Garcia and at worst a new nabil el zhar. He'll be a squad player who will provide something a bit different as a cameo.
Im laughing at people referring to YouTube clips. Come on is everyone so desperate for a positive signing that they will cream themselves over some flicks from a highly edited video. Just be realistic folks and open minded. Extremes of positive or negative on a player none of us know much about are crazy. judge him and the others on what they do in the next few months.

Fair enough point I guess but I'm excited at any new player like a lot of us are. Now is not the time to piss on our fire......we ll get a bit more realistic once the novelty of a new signing wears off. For now, we've unearthed a gem who will help take us to the top of the league.

Stop complaining bout cheap players from the Dutch leave, let's not forget Hyypia, van persie came cheap and even more recently unknowns like tiote, ba, Cisse and vorm have been great in the premiership, give the new lad a chance.

Also to all the people complaining about falling behind utd, city chelsea arsenal etc just remember how well Newcastle have done with signing unknown players that a lot of people on this site would love at LFC. In BR I trust and so should everyone else

Assaidi is going on the back of my shirt 100%

Just watched the video on the LFC site and he reminds me of Ronaldo full of flair and skill and not afraid to run at a player.

I dont want to run before i can walk because everything i am basing my opinion on is down to this video. However, The skill and creativity he shows on this video is so hard to compare to another player we have. (Suarez excluded)

Could this guy be the key to our top 4

This IMO is the first "BRENDAN GEM" at only 3Million what a steel.

Hope he lives up to my expectations although no pressure on the guy at a low fee and low wages.

Whats everyones thoughts.

He s a low risk signing basically, rodgers cant lose if he s crap he only cost 2.4 million if he s great its a masterstroke
i ve watched he youtube clips, and there are little signs there that the guy could be a decent acquisition, aswell as his abiltiy to beat a man he looks like his head is up for the final ball also. could prove to be a great bargain signing, i for one am looking forward to seeing him in action

tom1975

Dont judge him based on a youtube video , its highly edited and just shows the best bits of him , he did look quite good in the video but he might not be that good and also he might struggle in the premier league. but i hope he is as good as the youtube fideo shows him to be

Cheers, Zincho

Some people come to the site to write rubbish without thinking. If we paid £20 plus million for Assaid (spelling ) with the same You Tube clips, people will be saying what a player! The next Ronaldo etc! Remember Ronaldo's first season at Manu? He was all dribble no end product! Remember? So if you are a real LFC fan give the guy a break! For the record the fee we paid/ agree to pay is £2.4M. I repeat £2.4M.

16 Aug 2012 22:36:33
So it's nearly upon us and I can't wait! I for one was and always will be a Kenny fan for the memories he gave me (us) playing and managing us.

However, I have to say, I am so impressed with BR since day 1. His interviews are clever and more to the point, he is media savvy, He says all the right things, provides them with information so not to hit back and always keeps them on his side.

I checked one of my older posts recently when he joined us and recalled I dismissed him for the job as he hadn't proved himself after only 9 months in the premier league - how totally wrong was I!

The guy has a charisma and self confidence that is clearly passing down to the players and more importantly he has a plan of how he expects us to play regardless of who we play. Something we have not had since Bob's reign or in fairness Kenny's early years. For far to long now we have worried about the opposition, GH did, Rafa did, RH did and to a degree last season KK did.

I am hoping BR sticks to his beliefs, regardless of early season results and as fans I hope we get firmly behind him.

It is clear to me BR is a man who loves our club and wants to succed, wants to return us to the top, but knows it will not happen overnight, it's going to take time guys but look at the positives so far, LS, MS signed extensions, DA wants to stay, AC wants to stay, Lucas is back and fit, Stevie is looking fitter than anytime over the last two years, Borini looks quite sharp and BR has given the youngsters their opportunity, Sterling, Robinson, Shelvey, Flanno.

It's looking good redmen but lets be patient and support BR and the boys........-TMac

Well Said TMac,
Great to see the cautious optimism spreading, most importantly, lets keep the patience, we are on the right path, it won't all change overnight.
Good Luck Brendan & Lads for more than just a new season - start of a new era !

16 Aug 2012 22:11:02
Things are looking bright. If we are able to secure Dempsey and Sahin I will be absolutely thrilled. We will finally have the required depth to continue to compete when injuries occur.

Forwards: Suarez, Borini, Dempsey, Assaidi(if you have not seen him play you are in for a surprise) Carroll, Downing

Midfield: Gerrard, Lucas, Sahin, Allen, Shelvey, Henderson

Defenders: Enrique, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Robinson, Coates, Carragher, Kelly

Not to mention Stirling, Suso, Morgan, and all of the young up and coming talent we have. Trust in Rodgers for I have a feeling we are in for some good times ahead.

Okay, so my girlfriend rings me on the way back from work and says that we've signed a guy called Assaldi.

In my arrogant, (football know it all and you don't know anything because you have no interest in the sport) type of thinking at that moment I kept correcting her and saying 'don't you mean Sahin honey?'

When I had realised annoyed her to the point where she just said 'she you when get here! Bye!' I thought to have a good old look at this site.

Lo and behold we have actually signed Assaldi! Not that I'm gonna try and act like I know anything about him, because I don't. But from what I see on here, he sounds like a good purchase!

Hi Ed's good news today again for the reds!
Rodgers has come out an said the moneys not there this year! So I was just wondering if Liverpool qualify for the champions league, would that bring money for transfers? I know it will attract better players. But if the money ain't there this year how will it be next year?

Getting knocked out in the group stage alone can bring in millions of pounds from TV money, sponsors and other things like this, everybody wants a piece in the champions league pie and it all costs money, the further you progress the higher the prize fund keeps rising,

Look he is going to say that because any good businessman plays his cards close to his chest. if other clubs know that we have lots of cash to spend they will take advantage of that.

Seeing as we have hijacked Ajax,s deal to sign Assaidi can we now go and hijack Evertonss deal to sign Mirralas. Would love to them both flying down the wing this season.
