Another nail in pepes coffin, if he wanted to stay b4 that carp tonight im sure he won't now, what a load of dross, i beg anyone to come on now and defend us now, as much as i love kk, that was garbage,

17 Feb 2011 23:42:29
How can you call joe cole, jeez give the guy a chance, he tried, what else could he do with so much dross around him, he only came on after half the game, ngog what a waste of space, i would have sooner seen kk put pacheco and sterling on, ok, if we had got beat at least we would have gone down trying, what happened to attacking football?i bet the spuds and mancs are wetting themselves, listening on five, the guys said this is kennys way of playing in europe keep the ball, dont let opp get ball, what a load of carp, sooner we are out of europe the better,
bring back roy, if we had got beat 1-0 we could have still beat them at home, but at least sen some good footy,

Blair, normally i agree with ya but not on this one i'm afraid.
Are we not Liverpool FC?
We should fear nobody!
I'd rather we lose 3 - 1 having tried to play than draw nil - nil.
We didn't even get one shot on goal mate!
That was shocking!
Don't know if KK overestimated their team or what but they were there for the taking no doubt!
We should have gone for the jugular right from the start cause you could see they were afraid of us!
Now they won't be afraid at Anfield which is dangerous to us!
Still think we'll go through but if they score the first or second goal at Anfield then we'd only have ourselves to blame IMO.
Made things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves now!
Appreciate your positive spin Blair mate but there are no excuses really in my eyes!
I'd be disgusted if i paid to go see that drivel.

It's the only positive i could take out of the game Kev. But i was trying to show just how weak our squad is, like i did after the Wigan game. This was the worse game we've played in 7 matches, but we still remain unbeaten in these 7 games mate. But people on here saying this is back to the Hodgson days after one bad game, is not just premature but also absurd.

Ed, what do u think the future holds for alex cooper and gerardo bruna? {ed's note - I can't see either of those two making it at Liverpool, I can see them being moved on in the not-too-distant future.}

17 Feb 2011 22:49:25
Ed, do you think kuyt and maxi will still be in first 11 next season or squad players. They are truley awful. {ed's note - they will be squad players next season, well Kuyt will be, not so sure Maxi will still be here at the moment.}

I agree with most people on here, that performance was dire, but the result was ok. Think of it like i am, i watched the Man.City match away to Aris Saloniki (Greek), and that was just as bad. And Man.City have the best squad in the PL and are 3rd in the league. Yet still they failled to beat Aris, who for me are a worse team than we played tonight. We had Gerrard, Agger and Kelly missing, who make a big difference to our weak squad.

So if you think of this result like i am, then it's not that bad.

I am sorry, but KK is a 1980's man.
Clueless S Lee was there tonight, clueless. As was much of Liverpool's performance. Time for a clearout, at the top !

I just read a few articles relating to the Hicks case today. I was wondering Ed, does Hicks have to pay court costs everytime he loses? As it was him that failled today to get the UK injunction lifted.

Blair Mayne YNWA {ed's note - usually the costs fall to the loser, but it is normally enshrined within the decision given, I have yet to see anyone even mention them in their reports of the case.}

One last comment on "black gate", I was the guy that said I like to be called big and black by the ladies. It was widely celebrated that Paul Ince was tipped to be a future England manager which would make him the first black man to have the job. This is something that would benefit the black community and perhaps encourage more black players to make the transition to manager in the future. This compounds the fact that it is not racist to describe someone is black, I think someone should listen to a bit of hip hop, were proud of our genetical makeup.

All the best

Black Red (my new name, thanks for the inspiration)

Results do matter, like scoring away goals (BETTER RESULT).if they fluke a goal, then the Pressure is back on, Kenny should of went for it tonight, we sat back and was happy with a 0.0. . Back to the horrible ROY days that game, No LIVERPOOL FAN SHOULD BE HAPPY WITH THAT PERFORMANCE. . . . . .FULL STOP. .

17 Feb 2011 22:14:54
Hmmm. Well, it wasn't too good to put it mildly.
I just hope that we do the business in the return leg and this is one of those games that recedes in the memory.
Anyway it's put me in the mood for a good snooze tonight. OK edzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This is why I'm jealous of teams like tottenham. They have just as many injuries as us, and they attack Milan from the start. We didn't even have a shot on target against Sparta.

I guess goalless is a decent result for us. Hopefully we win the home leg. Disappointed about the result, the performances of the players and that fact that more youngsters weren't used. Motm has to go to Renia, kept us from losing.

I think Pacheco will go in the summer. Didn't even play any minutes today when Kuyt and N'gog played absolutely awful. Jova was higher in the pecking order then Pacheco on Saturday. I think he'll request a transfer in the summer. Deserves minutes and I believe it is being unfairly treated. You think he'll leave in the summer?

17 Feb 2011 22:05:37
I have seen loads of games in Europe like that for Liverpool away to all you moaners it's the result that matters performance second I don't want to play well and lose I want to progress first stop slaging what we have at the moment just wait good things come to he who waits

I am so dissapointed in Dalglish. He didn't give any of the young guys a chance and at the end he takes out a striker to put on a defender. He never wanted to win the match, liverpool playd cowardly and it was embarrassing to watch. It is like watching Benitez when it comes to giving the youngsters a chance when clearly the older dead wood is failing in everything but slowing down the game. No creativity, no speed and no entertainment.

17 Feb 2011 22:02:37
Worst game I have ever seen! Complete trust in Kenny but I do think it's about time Danny Pacheco got a chance. I'm sure we would have been better with Kuyt through the middle and Pacheco off him. A much better option than the ineffectual Ngog?!

what happened to attacking football, its not as tho we were playing barca,

17 Feb 2011 21:58:23
Kenny better have something up his sleeve because that was one poor match. An away goal would have been such an advantage for us but he keeps on the likes of Maxi instead of putting in the fresh legs of Pacheco or Jova? I hate to question him but I guess we'll find out on Thursday if his scheme works out.

Not the greatest this is it? If Pachecho can't get a run when it's as bad as this, you have to feel he's on the way out. I really thought he'd get a run when the King arrived but nothing. Hodgson intimated on a few occasions that his attitude was poor, not sure what else it could be. AC

would be good addition to our squad not sure what he would cost but £10 mill's fair

What you reckon Ed?
MickyDover {ed's note - I don't think he is good enough, nor do I have any info regarding him being a target at all. But it is always possible, he is a Scouser and we are after a centre back.}

With Kuyt as a squad player that could provide a spark off the bench if needed, his touch is getting worse and worse every game but his Liverpool is in his heart. I'd also rather have Kelly fill in for Carra than Sktrel, its his natural position and he definitely has talent. If Insua proves to be fat and horrible like last season, Marveaux can provide cover for Baines, its just that Insua has one year left on his contract and I think he has massive potential if he works on his fitness.

17 Feb 2011 21:21:12
I'm willing to bet with anyone, steve clarke is the next liverpool manager!

My prediction in the summer Sammy Lee will leave or change role, Clarke will take over as assistant. Kenny will get a 2/ 3 year contract as full time boss, after that Clarke steps into his shoes.

The talk has always been a young manager to take charge of liverpool. Clarke understands the tech of the game (very good to), Kenny is perfect to teach him the other side, handling big egos, the press and general man management.

Steve Clarke is next in line to the throne!

17 Feb 2011 21:13:00
Still no touch from maxi! What is his role tonight?

17 Feb 2011 21:04:45
There is just no crativity, flair, or passion in that midfield. There is no skillful wingers with bags of pace, no crative central player capable of playing that killer ball and worming through defences. Ngog is just standing alone upfront, maxi is doing nothing, hopefully joe cole can show us what he was renowned for in his past days. Oh yeah and for GOD SAKE, BRING ON PACHECO! Our best youngster but still never gets a look in?!

17 Feb 2011 21:03:18
Dear Mr Saville, please could you fix it for me to play for Liverpool FC. I can't control the ball, pick a pass or beat a milk float in a race but I will try hard.
Yours sincerely
Dirk Kuyt

17 Feb 2011 21:01:41
Kuyt looks like an old horse needs to be brought out the back and shot. joe coles been a good addition but couple of our kids should be on there with some pace. and how did ngog get carded for that? i was expecting ngog to have bulked up and be more powerful with all the ime he has been given at the start of the season still seems lightweight. expecting us to turn the screw in the 2nd half!

How can he be cup tied if he hasn't played in this competition? And the fact that torres can play for chelsea in champs lge? There is no difference? {ed's note - there is a huge difference, as has been explained over and over. If you go and read the UEFA rulebook you will see it is clearly explained that he can't play in the competition because Ajax are in it.}

17 Feb 2011 20:10:32
Just a quick note luis s is not cup tied as ajax were knocked out of the champs lge and therefore hasn't played in the europa lge and they didn't say he was cuptied on channel 5. So I think a fair few people are wrong. Up the reds. {ed's note - one of them being you, he IS cup tied.}

Message to all fans when drawing up your wishlists. There is no such thing as a £0 deal, even if the guy comes on a free transfer. This merely means that no transfer fee goes to the club, what makes the player pick the club, you should be asking?

Lots and lots of money! Ask Sharkey, he is very adept at discussing the full amounts of 'free' transfers. I'm sure he'll have some eyebrow raising stories of free transfers costing clubs upwards of £10-£15M. Chamakh immediately spring to mind.

But keep those wishlists coming in. Some of them are hilarious. Really!

What's the craic with Pacheco? I thought after his performances with the Spain U19s in the summer, he would have been a cert for more game time this year. Under Roy you can understand with negative tactics that Pacheco was down the pecking order but even tonights match Pacheco could easily have slotted into Maxi's spot on the left of a front 3! Has he not been putting it in on the training field? Bad attitude? Or is he simply not good enough? It seemed to me an ideal match tonight but evidently not! Maybe he'll come on for the second half.

Been wondering today if Miereles could be like a Frank Lampard type. . sorry to compare with a Chelski boy! He's not another Gerrard - Gerrard is the most versatile player I've ever had the privilege of watching just a thought.

It amazes me how people are frightened to talk about colour, the worst case is boxing, it drives me mad when when they introduce the boxers-

In the red corner, Calzaghe in the black shorts with a gold stripe and red dots

In the blue corner, Lacey in the black shorts with a gold stripe and green dots.

Why not, Calzaghe's the white guy, Lacey the black guy?

Political Correctness in England is rediculous!

Was that fight not in Wales mate?
Only kidding.
Football game on tonight people, can we talk about that please?
Ed, can we ban the racist debate as it's ruining the football chat? Like, anymore references to the debate - just delete them & not edit or post them?
Please?
Cheers,

What?! !
So in what context would you talk about colour in football mate?
What way would you want to talk about black players or white players, instead of just players?
You are talking nonsense!
"You should be able to decribe what somebody looks like i.e. skin tone, without being called racist!"
So four players on the pitch, you say 'the black one'? Not, the number six or the wide player? You can't say Joe Smith rather than 'the black player'?
Think again my friend!

s**t sorry forgot your not allowed to say the word black anymore

Omg - that's my god not yours i am blaspheming against so don't take offence
an aussie comes from australie=not offensive
yank comes from usa=not offensive
limey comes from england=not offensive
jock comes from scotland-not offensive
they are descriptive terms i believe they are called adjectives
a black person = a person with dark skin=not offensive but an adjective

change the word black to a noun or pronoun and it becomes offensive because you are no longer describing but naming them through their skin colour
alternative call me red as i have red hair=friendly name, call me a ginger c**t and you have now changed it to a pronoun and becomes offensive as we all know red hair is the hair colour that no one wants their kids to have aand are teased all through school and life because of it

any way that's my take on the "blackgate" issue as far as i can see there was no malice and it was not used as a pronoun therefore acceptable as a description

Why on earth have we not seen danny wilson giving a chance at left back, he was a regular starter there for rangers and earned himself young player of the year award in scotland. I would also like to see sterling giving a chance at left wing after what he did in the youth team scoring five, with a hatrick in just over half an hour,

i would like to see this team myself,

Ed, Joe Cole, he seems a bit like the forgotten man these days. Do you still believe he can deliver some of that exceptional talent he has for us or could it be all over for him?

Spriggo {ed's note - I personally do not believe he is all that talented, I don't think Dalglish has been particularly impressed with him either. I can't see him being here next season.}

17 Feb 2011 18:00:44
Eds note: (Next we won't be able to say we are signing a Argentinian because it might suggest there is a problem with his country of birth being different.)

Are we signing Messi Ed?!?! {ed's note - oh how I wish!}

17 Feb 2011 17:34:50
Seeing the young guys playing this week i believe we will not need so many players to come in.
there is some real talent coming soon.
i think KK and comolli will go for erikson 100% he is the best talent around and he will play from the left side, in a few years he will take gerrards place.
2 defenders (central and left)and 1 defensive midfielder. and winger.
thats a total off 5 players, i think it makes sence because.
soto aurelio konch poulsen kuyt will be replaced by younger players.
jova ngog will leave thay had there chances.
and players that don't play will be sold.
the lack off dept will go soon because we have young players getting better.

i have a good feeling for next season
ed? {ed's note - I do think there will be 4 or five players coming in, not so sure we need to buy that many myself though, but we certainly tried to add at least 4 more players in January.}

17 Feb 2011 17:45:40
I wanna come on here an talk football not get into an ethnic debate, for f*** sake

ed do you think sterlimg will start or come on as sub wen we're 3-0 up ? {ed's note - I expect him to come on as a sub mate, I hope he gets a good run out though.}

17 Feb 2011 17:45:52
Ed since aquilani was paid for mostly with add ons, such as appearances/ goals, do we still have to pay off the fee even if he doesn't fulfill those landmarks?

also, as it was hicks and gillett who forked out the money, surely any money from his sale at all is a healthy profit? {ed's note - at the moment, the agreement with Juventus is that they pay off the remaining sums outstanding. If he doesn't sign permanently with them, we would then have a few payments to make, which would probably equal the amount we would get from selling him.}

17 Feb 2011 17:50:27
Does anyone know if we're in the white away kit or the black 3rd strip tonight so I know what to wear to the pub. . .oops, have I just made another race faux pas using colour as an adjective?

17 Feb 2011 17:55:36
I think we should sign Ezequiel Lavezzi. The guy is class. . And plays in the hole behind the two strikers. Will be the best attacking side if we can play carrol, suarez and lavezzi in a 3 pronged attack. ed have we had any eyes on the player? how do you rate him? {ed's note - we have looked at him, no concrete moves for him though. I have not seen a lot of him, I make a point of not watching Italian football as it is terrible to watch.}

17 Feb 2011 16:07:32
Just seen on sky bet that you can put a bet on Carroll.A. being first goal scorer with odds of 9/ 2. Me thinks this isn't a good bet as he's not due to play until march 6th at the earliest? Or is there a shock on the cards tonight?

Any thoughts ed? {ed's note - bookmakers will accept bets they think they stand a chance of making money from, the safer they are the better for them. It just means someone has seen he has gone out to Prague and put money on him scoring.}

17 Feb 2011 16:22:34
I have to agree with Steve Parker. One very ex Player who I do appreciate on the radio is Jimmy Armfield. Always perceptive and well balanced view.

On a lighter note when our two new boys make their first appearance together it will be like Lewis Carroll who wrote Alice in Wonderland - so will we all be in Wonderland that day?

Predicted team for tonight's game:
Reina

Kelly
Carragher
Wilson
Robinson

Pacheco
Lucas
Meireles/ Coady (If Meireles doesn't fully recover from a slight knock)
Aurelio

Jovanovic
N'Gog

Subs: Rest of the squad that has traveled minus Andy Carroll. Carroll is expected to debut as a sub in the second leg.

{ed's note - again I fail to see that reference at all. I agree the use of the word black is superfluous, but there is nothing to suggest anything other than it is the colour of their skin. Any extra meaning is given by the reader, that is clear. All the poster said is that they are big and they are black and there are 3 of them. If you have taken that to mean anything more then it is you who has the problem mate.}

Clearly the need to mention that they are black is discriminative in itself?at the end of the day if the said players were Caucasian, skin colour wouldn't have been mentioned, albeit I don't think what he said was racist, it was needless and inconsiderate. And possibly shouldn't have been allowed to be posted in the first place.

The ed has you their mate, the initial poster did not say anything about a black player playing in any particular way, he simply stated that he believed that the players would be black, not because of any other reason than the fact that the three players he stated are in fact black.
You analysis of it did not make it a racist comment, just that you interpreted it into a racist manner.
If I stated that their are some fast players in the Asian Cup would that mean I was stereotyping asians to be fast, no, it would merely be an observation, such as the initial poster had made, but just to follow it up,
Cissokho and Lukaku would be superb signings!

Sorry, after looking it appears i have mixed my reply up between two of my posts, ha , but my main point is that we neednt buy in at the moment, apart from possibily a striker, but I wouldn't go for Wickham, i would prefer more of a ball player than another big man!

Fowler is god {ed's note - I would love him back, he is top class and runs the midfield. The problem is that almost every team in the world, bar Barcelona, would love him to sign for them. He could almost pick and choose, so it would be up him, the lad might fancy a fresh challenge ie in Italy where he would be almost certain to win the league with either Milan side.}

@ Anfield Andy.

Insua is proven in the PL, proven to be nowhere near good enough. Coentrao is class but would cost in excess of 15m.
Kjaer is a centre half. Suso is not a centre mid.
Adam's fee in the summer will be dictated by who HE wants to go too as he will be in the last year of his contract.
Wickham is a centre forward, Pacheco and Stirling are not.
**********************
The same insua that had more assists on his own than Lucas and Mascherano combined?
I didn't say I would take Coentrao, i truly wouldnt.
I mentioned about Suso's passing, i believe he would fit perfectly in centre mid, i didn't at any point say that he was a centre mid. I also mentioned Kjaer, and then went on to mention that Ayala and Wilson coming through would be a better prospect.
And Although Connor Wickham may be a forward, you can guarantee that he would be played in a wider position, all coaches in the world do it with young attackers, look at Henry, Babel to name just two, Wicham would be played out wide to begin with, and i don't see the point, with Sterling and Pacheco both able to play there!
You merely interpreted my statment in the wrong way, but i do see your point, however, why spend big on overseas players, when we have home nurtured talent bursting at the seems with passion to play for the club?

On the subject of football pundits and inane drivel, for those wanting a laugh i seriously suggest you check out Sir Alan Sugar's twitter page - so far todays he's told everyone AC Milan won last year's CL and that Spurs had knocked Inter out of the competition.

One of Liverpool's former owners, Tom Hicks, has been blocked from suing in the US over the sale of the club.

The deal went ahead last year after judge Mr Justice Floyd granted orders preventing Mr Hicks taking court action in the US to halt the £300m deal.

At the High Court the same judge ordered that Mr Hicks can take action only in the UK

Your going to sell Insua, a promising and talented left back, proven in prem, and then spend 10m more than we sold him for to bring in Coentrao, behave.
Adam for £6.3m, weird, sinse we saw bids of £8m turned down in Jan.
Kjaer would be a decent move, but why move for another midfielder when Suso could move up.
Wickham is the same, Sterling or Pachecho can move up.
El Zhar, Degen, Ngog, Konchesky, yea, have to agree and would liek to see them replaced by a few of our youth, with maybe one addition from the market in the form of a right winger, Marveux does appear to fit the bill for that, along with Sterling, use Kuyt as he is meant, a striker, due to the fact he cannot cross for siht!

Anfield Andy

Anfield Andy, Insua has never been and never will be a promising and talented left back. Adam could go for 6-7 million as the January transfer window always costs more.Kjaer is a centre back , not a midfielder and would be a quality buy. Wickham is miles different than Sterling or Pacheco. He is a big lad that could easy play the Caroll role when required. Cant see Sterling or Pacheco playing as the main forward.

Interesting to see how different news outlets are spinning the Hicks story - some are saying it's a victory for Hicks, others focus on the suit by Broughton et al and very few are focusing on the ruling that it bars a US-based action from Hicks.

Just like to say that Steve Parker is on the money. I am also fed up with these ex players either talking sh++e or fawning over their former sides in the hope of some free tickets or something else (Dwight Yorke for example).
Arry Rednapp is getting on my fecking nerves and I have lost any respect I ad for him in the last year or two. He has turned inot a media whore who is always available for some comment or other, best mates with Talksport and Sky and will willingly appear anytime day or night for a soundbite. If I was a Spurs fan I would be a little embarrassed by this guys constant chirping in the media, most of the time it's pointless drivel anyway.
Keep up the good work Steve.

Ed do you have any idea of what players will be targeting in the summer or were targeting this winter but were unable to get.

{Editor's Note: It is rather early to say with any confidence - I think everone is waiting to see how the rest of the season unfolds. Marveaux will be making the move unless his injury fails to clear - so that is one additional midfield player. I would guess a wide player (Arda or equivalent) would be a good addition. If Jovanovic goes then I would not be surprised if the interest in Gervinho is followed up.}

17 Feb 2011 14:08:50
Just wathed a few clips of Sterling and Suso, I have heard a lot of hype about these two, and obviously with a 5 goal haul, Sterling is big news this week, I must admit, they both look really promising. Suso is a better passer of the ball than anyone in our first team now, except maybe Gerrard, and Sterling is much better on the left than anyone we play there at the moment, although playing Johnson in a def/ mid role there has been a good choice.
I would thoroughly expect to see both of these players moving to first team in the next year, surely they along with Ayala, Wilson, Robinson are the future of Liverpool, viva Anfield!
Ed, what are your thoughts on our youths?

Anfield Andy {ed's note - we have the best crop of youngsters I have ever seen at the club, this is the first time I have felt excited about a bunch of players rather than just a Gerrard or an Owen or a Fowler.}

"The Madness of King Roy XXVIII"

Wow!
Seems I dug up a little hornet's nest yesterday with my condemnation of punters: had a few people 'offsite' have a go and claim I don't know as much as the punters.
Really?
Let's look at that for a few lines.
When I looked at the Arsenal game last night I saw a team that was deprived of the ball for long periods. Did I need a pundit telling me that "Arsenal need that ball if they are to score!"?
Did I need a pundit telling me that "Arsenal have the players, but they need to score before they go to Barcelona!"?
COME ON!
Add in the banal commentary, riddled with cliches and fawning referecnes to 'Walcott's amazing pace, ' and 'Fabregas who wants to prove a point!' This is nothing you wouldn't have heard from your mate Barry, slumped in the corner of the saloon bar with his third bottle of Beck's to worry about.
I'm not sure I want a campaign, but then maybe I do.

I've always tried to avoid being offensive in any of my posting, but forgive me this one time: I was stupidly listening to talkS**T last night and apart from Collymore (at times) they have an endless succession of banal presenters and ex-players who talk trite rubbish and cause controversy to excite us into calling (more income) the station.

They fawn over certain managers and current flavour is The Good Old Cockney Comedy Act - 'arry Redknapp. This is the man mind you, that said (shrug your shoulders, bend your head and say in a very Cockney accent) "I dunno 'ow to turn on a computer!" . . followed by a wink of the eye and good old Cockney chuckle. He used that during his early arrest about tax evasion, and I wonder if he will use that when the real case comes to court next month?

I live in London and yet his Cockney Comedy Act is depressing: but talkS**T thinks he's (in pundit talk) - "a genius, " "utterly amazing" and "sensational!"
Cue 'arry wading in with a chuckle and the words, "I dunno 'ow to even spell them big words, guv'nor!"

These false gods and pundits are not the prophets we want.
Guillem Balague, Raphael Honigstein, Gabrielle Marcotti and surprisingly, Graham Beecroft, are people worth listening to. They do not have a vested interest in being a good mate to this mate who they played with. They have their favourites and dislikes, but in the main, they tend to provide information rather than banal utterances about ex-players.

There are some excellent ex-players who do speak well and can avoid the cliches. Into this group I would put Jan Molby (fascinating insights into life behind the game), Craig Burley (sharp criticisms he is NOT afraid of making!) and sometimes, just sometimes, Gareth Southgate. BUT the other side of the coin is our own Jim Beglin (bland and inoffensive), David Pleat ("why should I bother learning the right way to say foreign names - they pay me anyway for ballsing them up!"), Robbie Savage (a mullet and poor jokes a pundit is not built on) and our own Jamie Redknapp (utterly, uttterly hopeless and dull!)

Enough of that - what about tonight?
Having worked in Prague for many years, I expect it will be a real shock to some LFC fans from Liverpool itself, to set foot in Prague 7 and Milady Horakove Street . . unless of course you were born in Kirkby! (For the sensitive among you - I was!) Graffiti everywhere, burned out cars (don't tell me no - my office was 700 metres from the stadium) and a playing surface not as good as you hope for.
Still . . even if Ince or Coady, Sterling or Flanagan don't get on, it's an away day for them if we win 4-0.

Steve Parker.

The point about the ruling in the high court today seems to have been missed.
H&G wanted to sue in the US courts - Texas to be precise. The rulings in the state are mental - someone trips over a pavement and sues for $300m
This was denied. The facts of the matter are that they can bring matter up in US courts, but decisions will be made in the high court of the UK. They have been battered in the UK Courts and know they will get no joy here. This will eventually fizzle out. Expect Broughton to sue for libel as they have basically called him dishonest

Another victory for LFC in London. The High Court is the new Anfield south! Justice Floyd has told H&G to 'put up or shut up'. They can sue if they want, but only in the UK. It is going to cost them and they can be counter-sued. Any reds out there with deep pockets and time on their hands fancy suing them for emotional trauma!

{Editor's Note: It is nothing to do with Liverpool and it is certainly not good news if you are RBS. Hicks will be very pleased with this.}

Ed, just a quick question, a while back you said the Liverpool rumours page was the most popular as regards to all the other pages by a country mile. . I was just wondering if this is also the case in regards to the main page? {ed's note - the Liverpool page gets as many page views as all the other sites put together, including the main page.}

Cheers for the reply Ed. . that's pretty substantial IMO {ed's note - it always amazes me just how busy the Liverpool site is compared to all the others.}

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I am always amazed at people who don't understand how well supported Liverpool Football Club are, both in the UK and the world.

I have travelled the world and EVERYWHERE i have been their are Liverpool fans and fanatical fans at that.

To be frank, I don't even think Liverpool Football Club realise how big they truely are.

Only Manure come close to us in this country and Barca and R Madrid in Spain, that is why we need to capitalise on that support and have good owners who understand what they have. I think we now do after those clowns have left. With Kenny at the helm who does know what we are and will DEMAND the respect that OUR club deserves.

Kopsouce on Twitter is claiming tom hicks has won his case to sue RBS and LFC and is seeking billions. What does this mean.for the future of Lpool ed? {ed's note - just means he can try and sue, it might just be an expensive court case that he has to pay for. It will take months and months, maybe even years, before any verdict is reached anyway.}
-------------------------------------------
It's RBS and it's former employers that HICKS is after as the club is just the product, he will also have to prove the club was worth the £600m at that time.Which means opening a hole can of s**ep on his dodgey dealings

Not much of a rumour, but a bit of information that interested me. Recently became aware that Martin Broughton had been knighted in January due to his services to Business. I'm sure a huge part of this achievement was his part in saving our club. Again, just like to say thanks to Sir Martin Broughton.

{Editor's Note: It was nothing to do with Liverpool - and the decision will predate his involvement.}

Now lets get this right before it get out of control and the bitters and Manure media lot spin and twist it.

The judge varied the anti-suit injunction to allow Hicks to make applications in the US in support of any proceedings in the United Kingdom if he gives seven days notice to the parties he is suing.

IF he gets anywhere it will be RBS and Broughton who he acts against, NOT LFC

The judge has also allowed Broughton and RBS to counter sue Hicks and Gillette

{Editor's Note: The counter claim is for Broughton and NESV.}

Ed just a quick question
how many players do you think we will sign, baring in mind the prices will properly go above the prices in jan? and how much you think we will have to spend?
Pops

{Editor's Note: Three or four players would seem to be in the right ballpark. There will be no fixed amount to spend, but depending income from sales, paying off the debt on Aquilani, the costs of removing managers and coaching staff will all shape the financial results. The key thing moving forward is that tehre will be no on-going interest payments.}

DownUnderRed. {ed's note - he is no soft touch, not in the slightest, that man is built of iron, if you ever saw him play you will see what I mean. While today's players would be rolling around on the floor and crying if someone kicked them, Kenny would be putting the ball in the back of the net and then giving the defender a kick back the next time he got a chance. He doesn't run the club, he rules it and players know that stepping out of line is not tolerated. You don't have to be a screamer and shouter (though he is certainly not afraid to tell people what he thinks of them) to keep players in line. The discipline at the club is based on respect, the players respect Kenny, but they also know that he will boot them out the door if they don't toe the line.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Sadly I have had to live vicariously through my dads' stories and youtube in order to see Kenny in his playing days as I was born around the time he hung up the boots. I enjoyed the respect aspect you speak of, and in many ways appointing Kenny was the best thing for this squad. No one can argue we were dire under Hodgson, but I also think the players dialled it in many times and could have tried harder, knowing the manager was the one in the firing line not the players. Well all that has changed now, and no player will get away with that rubbish now.

So Ed, If a team in the Cl get 12 points in the group stage & a realistic target of the quarter finals the team would receive about 17 million euros? Plus gate receipts for 5 home matches & television rights? Is this correct & how much would this part generate? Roughly of course! It would be an interesting comparison just to see how much the 2 euro competitions generate for a club & how much we are losing out on! Cheers

The Irish Rover

{Editor's Note: I don't have the time for too much explanation but the television revenue goes to a central pot and is distributed in accord with the market share of that revenue by country. This means that it is possible for the teams reaching the semi-finals to earn more than the winners (as in 2008/2009). In 08/09 Liverpool reached the quarter finals and made €23M. Chelsea made the semis and made €30M; Arsenal made the semi's and made €26M; Bayern made the quarters and made €34M, Manchester United were the losing finalists and made €38M and the winners were Barcelona who made slightly less than €31M. In addition, there are the monies generated through the gate on match days.}

Hey ed, was wondering how does Kenny go when needed to be, as a disciplinarian? It is hard to imagine him being such a warm person coming down on a player like a tonne of bricks if he was stepping out of line.

Reading various reports. Linking us with Gervinho, Brazilian Ivory Coast player, 23 years old, striker/ left side attack midfielder.

I have not seen him at club level yet, but in his international appearances in world cup he was used as a sub. When hen came on he had pace, skill and just kept running at the defences causing mayhem!

I like his style as a player and think he would add a good attacking option for us.

£10 mil, buy him. What do fellow supporters think?

Ed I know a Champions League spot attracts players to the club but does it really generate that much more money for funds?

{Editor's Note: Yes - significantly.}

*****

remember reading somewhere, that getting to the group stages is worth £10m+ alone.
Ed, does that sound right or do you know any different?

{Editor's Note: From UEFA.COM: Teams competing in the UEFA Champions League group stage this season can expect to receive a minimum amount of €7.2m according to the revenue distribution system in place for the 2010/11 campaign.

Each of the 32 clubs taking part in the UEFA Champions League group stage that kicks off on Tuesday will receive a participation bonus of €3.9m, plus a match bonus of €550,000 per group game played. On top of that, the following performance bonuses will be paid: €800,000 for every win and €400,000 for every draw in the group stage.

There are additional payments made to the teams that progress in the competition with €3m the reward for advancing to the round of 16, €3.3m for reaching the quarter-finals and €4.2m for a semi-final place. The winners of the final at Wembley Stadium on 28 May will collect a further €9m, with €5.6m going to the runners-up.

By way of example, any side winning all six group games would earn €15m – comprising €12m for their group stage performance plus €3m for getting to the last 16.

In addition, participating clubs will be entitled to a share of the market pool based on the commercial value of their domestic television market, the number of UEFA Champions League matches they play this season and their final position in the domestic league table last term. They will also keep their UEFA Champions League gate receipts.

Each of the 20 teams that contested the play-offs has received €2.1m.}

Ed I know a Champions League spot attracts players to the club but does it really generate that much more money for funds?

{Editor's Note: Yes - significantly.}

So I'm guessing that Europa League probably doesn't even generate half as much?

{Editor's Note: Correct - again from UEFA.COM: The 48 clubs embarking on UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns this week will receive increased prize money compared with the rewards on offer last season, when the rebranded competition began life as the successor to the UEFA Cup.

Each team taking part this term will collect a €640,000 participation bonus together with a match bonus of €60,000 for every match played in the group stage. They can add to this total minimum amount of €1m through a series of performance-related rewards, starting with €140,000 per win and €70,000 per draw in their group games.

By way of example, if a side wins all six of their group fixtures they will earn a total of €1.84m from the competition by Christmas.

Progress beyond that point will trigger further bonus payments worth: €200,000 for reaching the round of 32, €300,000 for the round of 16, €400,000 for the quarter-finals and €700,000 for the semi-finals.

The prize money for the clubs that go all the way to the final will be €3m for the eventual winner and €2m for the runner-up at the Dublin Arena on 18 May 2011.

Participating teams will also be entitled to a variable amount depending on the commercial value of their national media rights, their position in their national championship last season, and their performance during this UEFA Europa League campaign.

A side could pick up, at best, €6.44m not counting the market pool share.}

Do you think with Real looking at a replacment that Alonso would come back to Anfield now with KK at the helm? I would welcome Alonso back if we could get him for around the 8-12m mark.

Don't know what anyone else thinks, but the more i watch Barcelona the more worried i am that Pepe will be between the sticks for them next season. Victor Valdes is absolute peep. Whilst he doesn't exactly have much to do most matches, when called upon he never fails to make straightforward saves look difficult and quite often gets the basics wrong (as shown with Van Persie's goal).
If Barca come calling i can't see Pepe turning them down. What Iberian/ Spanish speaking player doesn't want to play for Barca/ Real Madrid? (Xabi, Mascherano, Arbeloa, Ronaldo).
Not being a doom-and-gloom monger, just realistic.

And yes the year before Roma fans attacked Liverpool fans, a number were stabbed and that is why the Heysels match was the first Liverpool match in about 20 years that none of my family attended. They all said there would be trouble.}

Haven't you guys seen Pulp Fiction?

LIVERPRES {ed's note - I saw it when it came out and was really disappointed, was utter rubbish I thought.}

17 Feb 2011 01:36:50
Ed i may be sounding stupid here but was the heysel disaster liverpool fans fault? {ed's note - partly, yes. There were a number of other factors involved as well, such as a stadium that should never have hosted the match, poor policing and Juventus fans attacking the Liverpool fans. But none of that can absolve the Liverpool fans of their share of the blame for what happened.}

To the poster at 1:01:45,

Only kidding mate - decent shout with your team mate!
Cheers,

From what i found ed i can honestly say i pity you if this is more painful than being a gimp sounds!
What with all that leather on you with holes all over your full body leather suit & being led around by a tranny on your hands & knees with a dog lead around your neck - Jesus i'm scarred just thinking about it!
The answers online were priceless!
Someone put up a post saying their kids call them a gimp all the time & they were clueless to what it meant - can you imagine the look on their face when the received their answers from other posters!
I was wetting myself reading it.
Best laugh i've had in a few days!
Cheers,

I would expect Kenny to give the youngsters more of a chance, therefore minimalising the need for reinforcements in some areas. I would expect to see Brad Jones out and Peter Gulacsi to be the backup goalkeeper, Soto out and Danny Wilson in (possibility of Skrtel out, Ayala in but is a BIG risk), Jovanovic out, Ince in and still with the likes of Robinson, Coady, Suso and Sterling to come through properly.
Also, the line-up I reckon we should start with:
- - - - - - - - - - - - -Reina- - - - - - - - - - - - - Kelly- - - - - Carragher- - - - - Wilson- - - - - Aurelio
- - - - - - - -Meireles- - - - - -Lucas- - - - - - - - -
Johnson- - - - - - - - Pacheco- - - - - - - - - - Maxi
- - - - - - - - - - - - - Kuyt- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Also think N'Gog, Robinson and Sterling will be given a shot

Irish Kev. {ed's note - I never play as Liverpool to start with, I see the Liverpool one as the pinnacle of the game. I start at the bottom and work up to that job, it gives me time to get tactics etc sorted before I get the job so I do it right. I am only in 2013 with Crewe, but I have got them in the CCC and am currently a couple of points clear at the top after 6 matches. Adam Morgan is my super sub.}

If you start at the bottom then work your way up Ed. Then i'm afraid you'll have to be Everton on FM 12 mate, good luck.

{ed's note - I think he will come on if we get a decent lead. I like Morgan, I started an FM11 game managing Crewe and he is a top striker in that, so I have been taking a close interest in him since.}

I cannot bring myself to manage any team other than Liverpool.
It just feels unnatural lol!
I still play Championship manager 2008 now & again.
Went as far as season 2054! Even the youths had retired by then lol!
My poor wife - dunno how she puts up with me ha!
On FM '11 i'm currently in season 2019 but i'm "on a break" from it right now. It's very upsetting so i can't talk anymore about it lol :)
I need to get out more lol :)

met up with him for the derby last month for a few drinks and you want to hear the bollocks that he was coming out with, this that, FA CUP, euro cup winners cup blah. . i proceeded to name out the trophys we won, i don't hate the fella but he is as dilusional and bitter as ive ever met and they are all the same:jealous

They are a jealous breed alright mate but i take it as a compliment.
The day they stop hating us & being jealous of us is the day i lock myself into a "special" home!
The ed will be glad then at least as he won't have to sift through such long, boring posts anymore from me lol! Hope you pay yourself by the word ed :) lol :)

Ed what do you think of Carroll travelling with the squad to Prague? Would it not be better for his rehabiltation if he stayed at home, and didn't have to fly? And do you like me mate think that this is a good sign in his progress to get fit, that he's even travelling at all?

Blair Mayne YNWA {ed's note - it has to be remembered that he hasn't had any experience of European football, does him good to get to taste the atmosphere. I do agree though, it is a very good sign that they are taking him out there.}

Hopefully Ngoo will be back to Kev. Do you or Ed know how long his out for?

Blair Mayne YNWA {ed's note - there has been no word on that at all, which is very strange. I doubt it is anything serious though or they would have mentioned it on the official site.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Yeah it is a strange one but no news may be good news! He's a fine player.
But Morgan looks impressive at times too - dare i say Kuyt like effort & gets some fine goals too to be fair to the lad.
Do you guys think we'll see Sterling get a run out tomorrow night?
I hope so myself but wouldn't be surprised if KK wraps him in cotton wool - especially after his comment about the media needing to report responsibly in regards the youngsters!
Cheers,

Tie to be played at Anfield - no date set yet!

If Sterling & Coady are on form we'll go all the way me thinks!

In reply to Irish Kev, they would be over the moon to see us out of the prem and end up in the third tier of football BELIVE ME. Not having a pop by the way but I don't no how long your parents have lived away from Liverpool but if there filling your head with a romantic vision that deep down we would miss each other then they must have moved a long long time ago because there is genuine hatred of each other, your entitled to your opinion fella and I havn't got a problem with it but I just wanted to fill you in on the mood that exsists between both sets of supporters and trust me it's not how you think it is.

You deserve it cammy. You just beat the best team on the planet. I like Arsenal and it's fans. You have a touch of class, both as a club and as fans.

Good luck in the Camp Nou mate, you're going to need it.

"How exactly. . because you're a better side than 12 months ago and a fit VP always helps. Thought young Jack was awesome this evening against a team that I'd be delighted to tell my grandkids about.

Very well played!"

That is a fantastic comment to make. I believe in this team. If we can stay fit. .who knows?

They remind me of the Liverpool of the 70s and 80s (minus the back pass! ). You were the best team Englands ever seen back then. Scumchester can only wish they were as good as you guys, even if they do make the magic 19th title.

You'll be back challenging. .where u belong! Please beat the Spuds and Chavs to 4th spot.

It'd be an achievement for you guys to finish 4th after what you've been through as Liverpool fans.

As much as i hate ya's, i can't wait to do battle with ya's!

I hope you'll be back real soon.

Jeez. .we just beat Barca! ! ! ! !

Having watched Shaktar Donetsk tonight and a couple of other times in the Champions League this season, they seem to have a fantastic player in Douglas Costa, he is only 20 years old and probably wouldn't cost a fortune, do you know if any other top European clubs have been sniffing around him ed? Because I think he would be a great addition to any squad!
Gman82 {ed's note - lots of teams have been sniffing round him for a long time, it was just Shaktar were the ones who actually grabbed him. I really can't see him staying there after next season.}
