Hi eds lots of speculation as to who Liverpool will sign this summer to replace Gerrard! I don't believe we will have vast amount of money to spend with FFP etc so would you think Milner would be a certain target?

Who else do you think are genuine targets for this role??

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown an interest in Milner. We will need to wait and see who they begin to push for.}

Every time I see us linked to Milner I feel sick. Has Joe Cole mk 2 written all over it.

Agree7 Disagree12

Mr Dennis, He is like a Henderson who can shoot at the moment, so is not too bad of an option. At least he will go straight into the team rather than buying a youngster with potential. I am not against the move, but he is definitely no Pjanic. We can't believe the papers though, can we?

Agree3 Disagree3

Milner has scored more goals than Henderson has in his career with us.

Agree6 Disagree0

Milner would be a great signing if we can manage to get him. Obviously he's not Gerrad, no one will replace gerrard but he's a very good dynamic player, capable of playing multiple positions, a title winner so knows how to dig deep when the time come and is in his prime at the age of 28

Agree3 Disagree3

@Mr Dennis, could you elaborate on your comparison to Joe Cole? Both being free agents is hardly enough to say Milner is like Joe Cole.

When Joe Cole signed it was a risk as he had not played well in over 2 years. Milner has played well the past few years so I don't see a similarity?

Agree2 Disagree1

Best fans
It looks like your saying Milner has scored more goals since Hendo signed for us, for city than hendo for us?

from 11/12 when hendo signed
Henderson=16
Milner=13

Am I right that's what you were insinuating?, if so, it's wrong.

Agree2 Disagree0

Am I missing something with Milner?

My comparison with Joe Cole is that he is another vastly overpaid and completely over rated player who is at the wrong end of his career (He is 29!) and looking to mug someone off for his last pay day, do you see any really top teams scrambling for his signature? No, not even City are that fussed if he signs the new contract or not.

He has nothing to offer that we don't already have and would prove a waste of money.

Agree1 Disagree1

Cole was lazy and self-entitled and like his bodies Aquaman, Carroll and Downing, could not be bothered to put a decent shift in. Milner might not be the most skillfu BUT he is NOTHING like the above flops we`ve had here recently.

Agree2 Disagree1

Sorry, but at 29 he is at the wrong end of his career, he isn't really that good in central midfield as he hasn't the nous to play there and quite honestly he isn't better than the wide players we already have, so he should be dodged.

Again are any other top sides chasing his signature? No. I don't see a rush for him, so I would let him find his natural level back at Newcastle or Villa.

Well done Sheyi Ojo, helped his loan club get all three points tonight away from home.

Reading 0, Wigan Athletic 1. Jason Pearce scored with a right footed shot from the centre of the box to the high centre of the goal. Assisted by Sheyi Ojo following a corner. Ojo also received a yellow card and was subbed around the 72nd min.

ITV saying Gerrard is to be in the studio on Thursday night, so that is him out then. What with Markovitch missing as well I hope we still put out a strong enough team to win comfortably, but then again when did we ever make it easy for ourselves in cup games

Believable2 Unbelievable0

17 Feb 2015 23:41:12
Well he is injured. so yeah

Agree4 Disagree0

Our strongest eleven is arguably without Gerrard or Markovic so I don't see a problem

Agree3 Disagree0

Gerrard is injured mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't remember btw when did they last show Europa League in ITV1 before the Final (or semi final if an English team is in it - typically it is in ITV4). Shows you the power LFC still has apperantly to bring viewrs (albeit many of them bored ManU fans who just wait to see us slip. let's hope they have a dissapointing night)

Agree2 Disagree1

Something I've never quite wrapped my head around is why people don't want Liverpool players to play for England? Do you not support England? Do you not want the best for England? For me, personally, I want England to win the world cup waaaay more than Liverpool win the Premier League. It'd be an absolutely massive day for everyone. Imagine the nights out, everyone will be on the streets drunk as hell in the best mood of their lives. It'd be brilliant!

Believable3 Unbelievable27

17 Feb 2015 22:11:48
I want england to do well, but liverpool will always come 1st. And i'd rather be in the street celebrating with fellow livepool fans when we win a trophy than celebrating mediocrity with england.

Agree15 Disagree2

17 Feb 2015 22:15:59
Speechless.
How can anyone even say that?

Am not English myself but the scenes of Liverpool winning the league would be far more jubilant than England lifting the world cup

It sends shivers down my spine when i think of it

Agree13 Disagree4

You do realise people from outside England support Liverpool! Why would we want them to play for England

Agree13 Disagree0

17 Feb 2015 22:24:32
Liverpool over England every time!

Agree15 Disagree3

Brave man there Derbyshire

Agree5 Disagree1

I love both but agree would rather see England win the world cup over Liverpool win the premiership. We are talking about our nation here, ordinary folk who aren't 24/7 fans would join in. Remember the Olympics? That X 100 if England won the WC, mass hysteria MUFC and LFC fans celebrating together etc etc. I always enjoy that coming together during the Euros and world cups would love to see so many fans happy armchair fans or otherwise. Not sure either will happen in my life time.

Agree3 Disagree13

Derbyshire, Liverpool F.C. are the club that represents the city of Liverpool and it's people.

During the last few decades these people have been left to rot by numerous London centric establishment figures and parties.

Rightly or wrongly many associate the English national team with this. Hence the disinterest/dislike of the English national team.

It's also the reason, I feel, that there is such an affinity with our Celtic friends and neighbours.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I'm still laughing at the 'remember the Olympics' part!!!}

I don't care if they play for England or any of their national teams all I hope is they don't get injured or bite someone so that they might miss games for us. Play but don't get injured

Agree2 Disagree0

Sturridge has had about 6 injuries in his time at Liverpool and about 4 were on England duty. so would I rather have sturridge fit most of the time and spearheading our league campaign or would I rather he plays for England, gets injured and watch them play p*** poor football and get knocked out of every tournament after 3 games. you do the maths.

Agree5 Disagree0

As an Englishman through and through i'd love to see Liverpool win the Premiership above all else

Agree6 Disagree0

18 Feb 2015 08:14:18
English and would prefer LFC to win the PL. More generally though, the last time England played an exciting brand of football was the Germany 5-1 match, and that was a one off. I don't care much about Englands success because England do not play good football. Also, I dislike our manager at the moment fairly intensely and find the long standing commitment to picking big names over high performers and letting the media into every aspect of the management of England to be a big of a disgrace and a detriment to the players and sport - how many times a year does Roy get into a slanging match in the papers with a club manager?

Ultimately, aside from being born in England, nothing attracts me to English football. Few people choose England (or any other country, not really anyway). We all chose LFC

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Feb 2015 08:29:43
Liverpool every time. Watching England play is painful. They haven't played well since Owen and Heskey smashed up Germany.

Agree4 Disagree0

No contest, LFC all day long.

The English media are embarrassing themselves yet again by defending Wayne Rooney. If that was Suarez, Drogba, Aguero, Costa etc they'd be getting hammered.

It's sickening how nationality can distort opinions in football.

Rooney cheated. End of discussion.

Believable27 Unbelievable3

Hate Rooney hate United but this is how football gets paid was the keepers fault for coming out like that Rooney done what 99% of players would do

Agree3 Disagree3

The only person who really defended him was Hodgson, which is understandable as Rooney is his captain. The others at BBC did not want to upset their guest.

Agree0 Disagree1

Rooney is the reason the england national team will never do anything.

Most over rated player for a long time, hodgson wants to pipe on about his record for England but ashame he's never done it when it mattered.

Next England friendly we shouldn't be looking beyond Kane and sturridge, but I bet we don't see shrek on the bench.

Agree10 Disagree4

17 Feb 2015 19:07:42
For future international games Rooney and Kane should start upfront,, and Daniel Sturridge should be nowhere near that team and wrapped up in Cotton wool stuffed in a pillow filled padded cell at Melwood

Agree24 Disagree1

17 Feb 2015 19:27:53
I watched that video over and over again, Its a blatant dive.

Agree5 Disagree0

17 Feb 2015 19:55:56
There's me thinking I logged-in to the Liverpool page.

Agree3 Disagree1

Didn't Gerrard win a penalty when there was no contact a few years ago? I think it was against Sheffield Utd. He was defended by having had to avoid the challenge by jumping out of the way. In my mind there were huge similarities with Rooney last night.

Agree5 Disagree6

If he hadnt have lifted his leg and kept on running it would have been a penalty anyway. Its no big deal in my opinion. The keeper made the mistake.

Agree5 Disagree1

Sounds controversial, but I really think diving is taken out of proportion to be honest.
When players are on £150,000+ a week if they don't try everything they can to win then they shouldn't be on that money.
What does annoy me is when some try it after they've screwed up, in that situation the player should accept they've made a mistake and fight to win back the ball for their team.
I'm not saying that diving's good or I want it in the game particularly, but it's never going to be eradicated so rather than just lambasting anyone who goes down too easily in the box we should just train referees so they can distinguish a dive from a foul.

Agree2 Disagree4

For me had he left his leg there the goalkeeper would have conceded the penalty.

I was more annoyed at Dwight Gayle's antics last weekend; Henderson booked for not touching him then diving a second time claiming Sturridge got him when he didn't - rolling around holding his leg.

Had that been Sterling we would've taken it - dive but there woul've been contact.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Feb 2015 08:18:18
It was a penalty - he probably lost his scoring chance because he had to vault the keepers reckless challenge. But by going down like that and claiming contact, it also becomes simulation. There is a sense of ridiculous play acting and diving, but also not being able to trust refs on focusing on the wrong thing and not knowing the rules i.e. there doesn't have to be contact

Agree0 Disagree1

Lol. Seems your last sentence couldn't be more wrong EMS.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Hoola, Gayle done my head in last weekend, not a lot got said about him did it, if it was Suarez it would still be back page news today.

Hows your day going Ed002?
Chelsea going to win tonight?
I hope not but I don't want you to hold it against me.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - In the big scheme of things my day was fine thanks Jonny. I don't like the cold weather here in Warsaw. I would have thought you would be supporting Chelsea as the better they do can only help Liverpool with their ranking for next season. Right now it looks like Liverpool will be around 40-42 at the end of the season.}

Ed, you're a reasonable man and my head says we should hope chelsea do well, but my bitter and twisted heart rules when it comes to les affaires du futbol, and it wants so badly to taste Jose's salty tears of despair when he loses a penalty shoot out in a CL final.
Am I a bad person, noblest Ed? Am I?
I do quite like puppies.

Agree4 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - So when did Mr Mourinho lose a Champions League final on penalties resulting in his "tears of despair" - or is it just bullshit?}

I think the ed may have misread the post. anonymush never suggested jose had lost a champions league final on penalties

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Right - he is hoping that Chelsea get to the CL final - thanks. That will be Chelsea helping out Liverpool yet again then.}

I know there were some type of interest in james milner as rumored as well as nainggolan & pjanic.

They all are center mids or attacking mids. As you said a lot of times that emre can was brought as gerrard replacement as to play in center mid .

So if lucas leaves who will liverpool look at midfield . A center/attacking or defensive mid ? As I don't seen signing two mid fielders !

Who could they look as an option based on your knowledge ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - With Williams and Rossiter coming through and the likes of Can, Lallana, Allen and Henderson, the addition of one more should be enough.}

17 Feb 2015 19:32:10
Nainggolan would be the only one I would take If lucas leaves. I have seen him play and he looks top class, Excellent player.

Hi Eds,

Do you envision this summer to be quiet one for Liverpool with regards to bringing players in? I understand that we will be looking at a GK, CM and ST but should I assume there won't be drastic changes to the team like last year?
Cheers,

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The priority will be as you say.}

Tbh Ed01, I can't see how are we going to bring 3 more players in the summers
The positions mentioned above would cost us close to 60 mill in excess.
Do we have enough sale?

Agree0 Disagree0

Id have thought the board could cough up 20mil at least.

Sell:
Borini 10-13mil
Luis Alberto 6-7mil
Aspas 5-6mil
Lucas 5-7mil
Lambert 4-5mil

In:
Ings 4mil

That should leave enough for a top DM/CM and a back up keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has to start balancing the books and start complying with FFP. They are already under investigation.}

Gerrard, Johnson and Toure will be 3 big wages off the books this summer.
We will likely see several other outgoings as well.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

I know ed that's why I thought 20mil wouldhave been ok.

So would it only be player sales in the summer ed?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What makes you think that would be OK? Are Liverpool working to different rules than everyone else?}

Just thought 20mil was a small amount in today's terms.

So basically we've no money to spend in the summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have to start balancing the books and selling players to raise money.}

Love those sales figures. £6-7m for Alberto. Have yourself an early night, things will look clearer in the morning

Agree6 Disagree6

Basically thanks to our involvement in CL and extra TV revenue this calendar year yes can AFFORD to spend 20m net in the summer. That including player departures and wages off the books.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You don't seem to grasp this. He is suggesting the owners contribute more.}

17 Feb 2015 22:01:34
I wouldn't be thinking Liverpool will be very active in the market this summer. We are horrendously in debt still and in clear breach of the FFP rules. To be frank I predict a major major clear-out and probably only Ings coming in with more use of the younger players. We are literally chin deep in defenders and midfielders and need to get rid and with Ings and Origi, up front is sorted.

Agree2 Disagree0

Just stating the obvious.

Gerrard, Johnson and Toure will leave at the end of their contracts. Is Enrique also out of contract?

I can see probably Borini and lambert leaving - maybe Balotelli if we are happy with the amount being paid - so Balotelli might not happen.

Wisdom? Illori? - I can only see us keeping one (unless Madrid want manquillio back).

Hopefully the sales will be enough to fund the priorities we need.

Only wildcard is if Sterling doesn't sign and we decide to sell; that being said if I'm honest i'd prefer to have a positive balance on transfer activity given the current situation and possible sanctions etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Feb 2015 10:50:13
Can we send Manquillo back at the end of this season without any sort of financial sanctions? I know Atletico could recall him but I wouldn't see why they'd want to do that. I'm hoping Rodgers might realise that Wisdom is a better option for RWB and he could also play RCB. Even with Johnson likely to go we still have Flanagan and the likes of McLaughlin still coming through.

I'd send him back to just save on his weekly wage next season and allow our own youngsters the chance instead. Also at the moment we're not even using any RB's as Rodgers is playing wingers there so we're way overstocked in my opinion.

Eds, do Liverpool have any rights to appeal they can follow in light of Markovics ban? 4 games seems extremely excessive.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They have the right to but won't.}

For what was a very soft yellow card anyway it is incredibly excessive - the wonders of football and the inept bureaucracy strike once more.

Markovic banned for four games in European competitions which means he misses both Besiktas games along with any potential round of 16 games. Ridiculous imo didn't even think it was a red at the time.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Look on the bright side, at least Ibe can play as he's only tied for the FA Cup. Good chance for him again

Agree8 Disagree0

No big deal imo. Play Ibe in Europa and Markovic in the BPL and Fa cup games. Problem solved. Both are young players who could do without having to play each and every game in a unfamiliar position at RWB so not a big deal at all.

Agree6 Disagree0

17 Feb 2015 13:46:06
I doubted it would be overturned on appeal but 4 games seems a bit ridiculous, any statement on why it's so long? 2nd violent conduct in two seasons or something?

Agree3 Disagree0

I think he was sent off last year in a uefa semi final v juventus maybe that went against him

Agree1 Disagree0

Was that why we brought Ibe back from loan early?

Agree3 Disagree1

17 Feb 2015 11:54:07
Just interested if anyone knows, what's happened to Victor Fischer? He was linked to us in the past and others. Labelled as the next big thing from the Dutch league, I've heard nothing about him in a couple of years.

Not suggesting we need him or a player like him, just curious why he's dropped off the map

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I think he picked up a quite serious injury because I wondered that myself when i noticed he hadnt scored for Ajax for a while

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Even when fit he has not been performing at all well. There was a suggestion that Liverpool might be interested last summer but it remains unconfirmed - although they have certainly taken a look.}

17 Feb 2015 11:34:38
Looking at the early results on today's poll based on only 14 votes so far, so may change!) and its broadly 2/3 against having an extra sub and 1/3 in favour.

I've voted in favour as I think it makes eminent sense. Your adding another third onto the game time so I would regard this akin to having a challenge added in tennis when you reach a tie break.

I honestly can't see a downside to this so would be interested to hear from people who have or would vote against this as to why?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

17 Feb 2015 13:04:21
I personally wouldn't like this added. Teams know they have this extra half hour, and should be able to get the job done in the normal 90. I don't like the idea of changing these type of rules when it's never really caused issue in the past.
I'm still somewhat mystified as to how many top level players suffer from cramp during it, they have ample time and opportunity to take in proper nutrients.

I have more to say on this but I can't seem to function properly right now, struggling to word it correctly haha.

Agree0 Disagree2

17 Feb 2015 13:47:40
Because it gives an advantage to bigger teams for a start, but one of the skills of cup games is using subs properly when things like extra time and penalties are taken into account.

Agree2 Disagree0

Surely the main reason against is that it gives the clubs with huge squads even more of an advantage.

The other reason is that it would make for more boring football - you would lose the space that appears when players start getting tired (look at rugby for an extreme example. far less space on the pitch with fresh players coming on all the time). It favours squad fitness over skill?

Agree1 Disagree0

Was going to reply but Prof G you have covered everything I wanted to say, namely that clubs with deep squads are given an added advantage.

Agree0 Disagree0

If every substitution had to take place within 20 seconds then you could in theory have six substitutions without losing any time out of the game?
Clubs use substitutions as delaying tactics and that needs to be looked at.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Feb 2015 09:59:22
Hi Ed001 if you're about please.How bad was the rap on the knuckles from the owners BR got for not bringing through the youths like he said he would?And why do you think he didn't?Does he not trust them?
BarryinLouth

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it not that bad, he was just reminded of his responsibilities when he was wanting to sign players in January. He was told he would have to make use of what he has unless we could sell players to fund any buys. Even then he would only get a percentage of the income to spend as we need to reduce the wage bill.}

ED001 Nonsense.
I heard they made him draw a card from a pack of 52 red suits soft, black suits hard, and that whichever number he picked out was how many raps he received. I was reliably informed he picked the 8 of clubs with the raps dealt out by Lebron James who was flown over on request.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ah well that is where you are wrong, LeBron was busy doing a bit of media work for me at the time, so they had to fly in Kobe Bryant, which is how he injured himself.}

Edd001, i am just wondering. I know the wage bill is huge but i strugle to understand why. When i look at some of the other clubs i get the impression that their players (or some of them) are on very big wages compared to the players from Liverpool. So what is the reason for Liverpools huge wage bill big? Is it because fringe players like Borini, Aspas etc earns to much, because the squad is to big, a few players are getting to much? Maybe a combination of it all? Would it be easily solved with possibly Johnson, Gerrard, Kolo, Borini, Aspas, Balotelli etc leaving in the summer? Or is there no quick fix? If there isn't. How do you go about reducing it?

Is it because the average wage in our team is high, because we have a few or many on very big wages. Fringe players getting to much? Youth players getting to much. What is it that make the wage bill so big?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - combination of lots of factors, from our income being smaller to paying too much to players. Johnson and Gerrard will remove over 200k a week from the total in the summer anyway.}

Thanks ed, really appreciate! Sorry for the big empty space in my post, don't know how that happened?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed1 thank god you said Johnson wages. The rumours of a new contract are not true then mate?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he will only get a short term contract at a much lower wage, which it seems unlikely he will accept.}

Is Johnson leaving Edd001??

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is most likely he leaves. He can get a longer contract on more money elsewhere.}

One of the most frustrating things is that we did a good clear out post hodgson ( not that they were all his buys) on trimming the squad and wages yet 3 years later we're in the same position with players bought on decent wages that we don't need or are loaned out ( hopefully we're not paying them too-ed?)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - in most cases of first team players out on loan we end up covering a percentage of the wage.}

Ed are most clubs having issues in their wage bills being excessive? Surely United are in a worse position than we are considering the 600k a week on just Falcao and Rooney?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Man Utd have a much higher income, but yes they are skating close to the wire, as are Arsenal.}

17 Feb 2015 11:31:43
I would also hope that the expansion will go someway towards helping us better afford our current wage structure. Looking back at the first 10-15 years of the EPL, under 'guidance' from the Moore's family, it looks like we missed several commercial opportunities, really obvious ones too (the Eds have given some great examples in the past).

Under FSG, we are essentially playing catchup for 15-20 years of commercial mismanagement by our then powers that be. During that time, teams like United, Chelsea, Arsenal and others have moved significantly ahead of us, which all goes into the pot of factors contributing to our inability to compete at the highest level.

From what the Eds have said, commercial deals being put in place by FSG during their tenure are helping us to claw our way back.

Some may be surprised that I included Chelsea in that list, but I am impressed, both from a commercial and competitive point of view, with the vast swathes of young talent they have out on loan. In these days of FFP, having these players already developing means that they can pick up the odd courtois, and sell other young players for a profit in order to afford the larger names and yet balance the books.

Smart thinking, albeit I may be simplifying things a bit! Ed002 in particular, I'd love to hear your views on the Chelsea model and whether you also think its a smart move that will pay dividend going forwards?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It will pay dividends but many of the players won't make it at Chelsea and having had regular first team football will be looking for that going forward.}

Made my day that the club are not going to re-sign Johnson.
We have 3-4 young right backs who we need to develop in my view.
He would be blocking that development.

Agree1 Disagree0

Good post Zed mate.
I share the same opinion, forget Arsenals model, and as much as it grieves me to say it but Chelsea are playing a blinder on the buisness side of things.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Feb 2015 19:14:43
Thanks Ed001 why do you think he didn't give the youths much of a chance in the first place?
Barry inLouth

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - because it is quicker and easier and safer to use players who have already got first team experience.}

17 Feb 2015 08:57:19
Good draw for us at home as well.
Delighted but Blackburn will not just be turning up with their camera's to snap the day.
In some ways its a hard draw because all the pressure is on us to win it.
I fully expect us to progress though if we keep up the good form between now and then.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Bar two teams the pressure was going to be on us to win it, especially with a home draw. With the exception of reading its as good as it gets.

Just hope we don't get suckered into a replay, win or lose on the day as fixture pile up is going to take its toll on us

Ironically I'm back in the UK when they are here. Gutted.

I would love a Liverpool v Man Utd FA Cup final. Primarily because I think we'd wipe the floor with them because they are atrocious. Secondly i'd like to get retribution for the 'white suit' cup final (I nearly broke my back on that day but I digress). And last but not least I love seeing the camera zoom onto Fergie's face when they lose. His cheeks go a deeper crimson than they already are.

Believable15 Unbelievable0

Should I remind you the score last time we met?

This is the one final I don't wish to have, I don't think I will be able to watch it and losing to them in the final would be too traumatic and will ruin this season big time. They may have their issues and they are not chelsea but they are far from being a bad team and we are far from being Real Madrid either.

There is a reason why they are ahead of us in the league and it is not just the early part of the season. Other than that slip agaisnt Southampton they didn't lose for ages. Yes, we can beat them on the day, should do so at Enfield, but I don't remember us wiping the floor with any team since Suarez has gone. I really hope Arseanl will beat them though I doubt it.

Fanobip

The last time we met did not show the true reflection of the game.

Sterling and balo both wasted 3 good chances each, and de gea got man of the match.

Agree6 Disagree0

I'd rather man utd than arsenal.

Agree10 Disagree1

I think the gunners will expose their flaws and beat them.
But given the choice I would rather take on utd than arsenal- I think utd will be easier to break down, or to catch on the break and nick a goal or two.
Arsenal will either be abject if we get a lucky day, or (far more likely) they'll be tough to get through, and very dangerous going forwards.

Agree2 Disagree1

Have we beaten Blackburn already then?

Agree6 Disagree0

I'd take Arsenal ahead of United every day of the week. Wenger just is too stubborn to consider the fact the likes of Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling need to be watched very closely. However that could work the other way and if Gerrard's left to hold out Alexis and Cazorla we could be embarrassed ourselves. The same could go for United though, Rooney and Di Maria taking on Stevie would not make for nice viewing.

Agree0 Disagree1

Mikey this is the Liverpool page, where we believe that we have a divine right to 9 points against leicester Burnley and Villa and that Basel are a walk in the park. who are Blackburn!?!?

Agree3 Disagree0

Bobatron

Its not that we think we have a divine right to automatically think we have beaten these teams already.

But if we can't fancy our chances of winning ma home tie against a championship team then there's something wrong.

It won't be easy cup games never are but still you got to fancy the win.

Agree1 Disagree0

What part of my post said that we would beat Blackburn? I said I would 'love' a Liverpool v Man Utd final. I was being hypothetical. I wish some of you would actually read before you start to hate. Or better still turn your play-stations off and actually go into the real world talk to girls and get a dose of life outside your bedrooms.

Agree4 Disagree0

Lavers those were 2 examples I personally commented on where people in threads were getting ahead of themselves. Look what happened in both we drew 2-2 vs leicester and drew with Basel and got knocked out of the champions league. I don't mind optimism talking about the next match and the chances of going through, But when you automatically are thinking about the next round of ties, you're being insulting to the other team I think and looking too far ahead

Question Eds, if either one or both teams that make it to the final of the Europa league has previously qualified for the Champions League through their domestic league, what happens? Will a semi-finalist be picked, or will another team from the winning finalist's domestic team be picked to replace the winning team? Does my question make sense at all? Let say Liverpool play Napoli in the finals of the Europa league, and Napoli have alreadyqualified for Champions league via Serie A, what will happen should they beat Liverpool? How will that be different say Liverpool makes the top 4 vs. Liverpool doesn't make the top 4?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - nothing happens. The Europa League winner is now going to take away one of the places earned through the league.}

17 Feb 2015 06:58:21
Just to clarify have they changed it so if a team from England outside top 4 win it they won't get a extra champions league spot ?I know this was going to happen next season,so if Everton,spurs or liverpool finish outside top 4 they could take arsenal or man utd place or who ever else may finish 4th this season?cheers ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Additional.}

17 Feb 2015 09:08:11
Sorry which is it? Taking away a top 4 place in the league Ed001. Or additional, a 5th team Ed002.

I'm confused

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry I am not 100% sure now, it was initially a 5th team this season, then to turn to taking away a place in future seasons. I can't remember whether or not that was changed, as UEFA did want to change it to just take away the league place immediately. The rules don't make it clear, hundreds of pages I have searched through and I am still not sure!}

Question to everyone.
If we reach the FA Cup final does Rodgers have the bottle to not start Gerrard if we have a fully fit squad?
Lucas hendo cout sterling sturridge have to start if there fully fit, but will Gerrards birthday and possibly his last game for us overshadow what needs to be done?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Benny put simply.NO I don't think so

Possibly because he can justify it two ways:

1 - Gerrard to be on the field for the final whistle no matter what.
2 - Gerrard can't make 120 mins but can you imagine entering a shootout without him?

17 Feb 2015 10:13:53
Ha ha, heart or head. which one to go with. It may depend on who the opponent is.

Agree0 Disagree0

There aren't many Liverpool fans who I imagine would have the bottle to not play him if they were in BR's shoes and we'd got to cup final day.

Agree1 Disagree0

Tough one, instinct says no simply because he carried on playing him as a DM when he kept getting shut down by the opposition BUT he did drop him for the Madrid game. As club captain though I'm sure he'll keep him in.

Agree0 Disagree0

I say don't play him until right near the very end of 90 minutes and bring him on then. He just isn't up to playing at the highest level any more.

Very happy with the draw tonight, with either Utd or Arsenal going out could be our year. Does anyone know if the Semi Final draw was made tonight also? If we beat Blackburn do we play the winners of Bradford or Reading? Or will there be another draw made after the Quarter Finals does anyone know? Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was just the QF draw and that was it as far as I could see.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Feb 2015 07:42:30
They draw every round separately. Probably because they televise it and get money for each draw now, otherwise they'd just have an empty show

Wouldn't be a bad way to send Gerrard off if Liverpool and United reach the final.

If they keep playing that awefully then that would be THE best.
