I posted a question for Ed 1or2 just before Christmas. With an a.b.c multiple choice answer.

Haven't read it back, but I think it's fair to say that there wasn't many with this answer!
Actually, I think where we are now may have needed a "d" choice!
Can we do it? Ed2's lot are a huge danger.

Anybody else surprised that Jordan Henderson wasn't even on the shortlist for Young Player of the Year? In my opinion he should be there or thereabouts for the main award shortlist, and I'm shocked he's not even on the shortlist for young player. Suarez will obviously win the main award, and I think its between Hazard and Sturridge for young player (Ramsey was my young player until he got injured and I think Sterling is a bit of an outsider). But yeah, huge shock for me not seeing Henderson's name on either shortlist, despite being our most consistent player this season.

I'd also like to pay my respect to the young West Ham player who tragically passed away today. Another young man who's time came too soon.
Cheers,

Its my 22nd birthday today so i'm hoping a get a present the weekend with a Liverpool win. Wish I was going to the game but as long as we get the 3 points it'll be a good week for me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aha it's my bday too today, only I'm 29. I've been wishing for the same thing. One of my colleagues is a spurs supporter and wrote in my card that if were still top of the table on my bday then were going to win the league (I got the card a few weeks back) let's hope he's right! Happy birthday mate, I hear all the kool kids have a birthday today ;-)

Hey eds and reds. Not a real positive 1 this time. And not quite Liverpool related but I need this off my chest. I love Liverpool and am very much a 1 eyed supporter but as an aussie i'm really really sad to hear that 1 of our most promising youngsters have past away with cancer. He was only 20 years old and on west hams list for a few years now. I had wondered why he hadnt played as much as I expected but now its clear why. Its actually really shattered me hearing this. and I think I will get the backing by the best supporters in the world by saying Dylan Tombides YNWA. Things like these put things in perspective real quick.

Everybody seems to have the impression that we will make 1 or 2 top class signings this summer. I however think differently. The last time we signed players for outlandish fees, it failed miserably. We have come this far by developing youth, improving what we have, and looking for bargains or players with talent but that find themselves in a bad situation. If this is cheaper, and works, then why change it? Besides, the eds have stated that there is numerous financial issues still to be resolved, and debts that need to be paid off. i'd much rather have that peace of mind than buying shaw or lallana for 30 million. However, I do believe that there will be several transfers in the summer, just not neccasarily the ones wed all love.

I can see us going for ochoa, since he is on a free, or sticking with brad jones or the academy keepers as back up.

For centre back, it is not a matter of a quality player, because the ones we have are m. It is a matter of more than good enough, and plentiful. It is a matter of buying a commanding figure, a leader, preferably someone who is good in the air. Richards although I very much like him, is in the same situation as martin kelly, so i'd prefer to stick with kelly. The only ones I could see coming in
Are caulker, vertonghen (unlikely as he is left footed and has a bad attitude) or de vrij, as he is supposedly on the cheap.

For midfield, I believe coady or rossiter should be given a chance for backup to gerrard and lucas, any targets in that position are likely far too expensive. A replacement for gerrard should also be targeted, although the only one within our price range is hughes. i'd prefer if we waited til we had the cash for someone like draxler, kroos or otherwise. i'd imagine rakitic or firmino will be targeted to bring in goals from midfield.

At fullback, I can imagine johnson being sold due to failure to negotiate a new contract, so flanagan will take his place. I would like us to buy either clyne, or promote mclaughlin. On the other side, enrique could be sold, as could robinson. In that case, two will be needed. Most likely coentroa, as he needs a move, moreno or betrand, any two of those 3.

I believe another wide forawrd is needed, and will hopefully be either konoplyanka (has that special something) or el shawaary (young, in a bad spot at a big club). Both of those are realistic.

Finally, up front, since we play with two strikers, a backup is needed alongside borini. I would like to see either muriel or remy, remy would be very shrewd.

If most of that was to happen, I can't say there would be any complaints from me.

Sorry about the essay

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really wouldn't be surprised to see very little transfer activity this summer, unless we ship a load out (which seems very unlikely). I think as with this season back-ups are going to be largely young players. We have a abundance of CB's so unless both Skrtel and Agger go (again unlikely but likely one), we still have enough cover. RB is well catered for even if Johnson was to leave and possibly having given him this season to recover, Kelly is seen to still have a future with us. A new LB will be sought only if Enrique moves on with Smith or Robinson providing cover. Gerrard now sitting in a deeper role will be covered by Lucas, wth perhaps Rossiter being used sparingly to ease him into the first team, Allen, Henderson, Coutinho, Suso, Alberto and Teixeira can all occupy more advanced roles. At the front we have the SASAS with Borini, Aspas, Ibe, Yesil (if we can get him fit), and perhaps one more attacking wide player to come in, further covered by our more attacking midfielders. So perhaps just a LB and an attacker unless others leave.

Hi Eds and fellow Reds

I am astonished some fans are already looking for summer signings and players to come in! We are doing so well in the league. We must be bonkers to change the team that's taken the PL by storm and will do the same in the CL.
And some of the names fans find! Where do you get these rumours?
I would guess Brendan already knows who to bring to not only compliment the team but also to NOT block/stifle the progress of some of our fantastic young prospects waiting in the wings.
Our mixture of youth and experience is the envy of all other teams and when you look at the academy with the like of Wilson, Dunn etc. Whatever happens in the next 4 weeks, the future is very bright indeed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thats what Utd thought and where are they now?

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not a matter of changing how we do things, just strengthening our bare thin squad. Completely different position to united, who had a very large squad full of mediocre junk.

Agree0 Disagree0

What youth were United boasting besides Zaha and Januzaj? We hung with our youth players and they've matured to senior players with much time to keep growing. Joe Allen, Daniel sturridge, Jordan Henderson, Jon Flanagan, mignolet, sterling; jury still out on Texeira and Suso. I think our youth has been the key to our success. And must continue to be.

Agree0 Disagree0

With champs league we need to add quality in depth so I welcome any signings tbh and creating compitition for places isn't a bad thing

These 4 weeks are the hardest for every LFC fans. The wait for the next match is very hard and painful. We continue to ask ourselves what will be the result, what will happen if we lost points against the Cannaries, Chelski and Palace. The Mancs and Toffees fans are waiting for any slip up to peep at us. However, I am completely confident and have complete faith in our lads to finish the job. Come on Reds make us believe.

Hi Eds, are we looking to bring in a striker? Maybe someone who could come in when Sturridge is injured? Moses will be going back next year and it's likely Aspas won't be around either. We are pretty flexible with our formations but the majority of them we use see 2 up top with one striker drifting wide, so an out and and striker probably wouldn't be ideal so just interested so see what you know to be honest.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If Suarez leaves Liverpool will look for a striker.}

Borini wants to come back. Suarez, Sturrridge and borini as out and out strikers plus a wide forward it seems unless Suarez leaves.

Morning Eds.

Have a friend who works at Sheffield United.
He has told me that they had a few players training/trialing with them this week ahead of the Stevenage game.
One of these was Tottenham's Kevin Stewart.
My mate has told me that Utd were impressed and wanted to offer him a second trial but Stewart has told them he has been contacted by Liverpool and will have to wait until these discussions have been completed before he could give them an answer.
Do you know anything about this or is my mate just yanking my chain?
He also said Clough wants to purchase Coady if we were prepared to let him go.

Hey Eds, I have two questions to ask

1.) What do you believe is the likelyhood of Guillermo Ochoa arriving in the summer, I know we have been linked with him in the past and it seems the rumours are going around again so i'm not sure if its all recycled or there is actually some legs to it

2.) What is your opinion of Ochoa as a player, I havnt seen much of him but I have heard he is excellent for Mexico but at the same time his club in Ligue 1 is struggling hard and no doubt he'd have had a down season as a result

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has no interest in him. Where do you get this stuff from?}

18 Apr 2014 11:03:37
Only saw Ochoa play in the last World Cup, and he reminded me of Evans era David James: Flappy and error prone. No point in signing him if he's anything like that still.

We paid £9m for Mignolet, and whilst I personally think he's made a lot of errors (he's just gotten away with most of them), he'll start next season as first choice and will only face any sort of competition for his place if we somehow fail to offload Reina. Which won't happen.

Out of Curiosity, has Brenda ever won anything in his entire managerial career? And also, don't you think Manuel Pellegrini would have failed in his first season as City manager if they don't win the league?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think so, not in our league anyway. Man City probably have the best squad in the league on paper, but as we all know the EPL is so unpredictable. On one hand a top team can beat another title contender 5 or 6 - 0 and then lose to a team in the relegation zone. It was never a foregone conclusion that Man City would win the league this year, with Jose back, Spurs spending like they did along with Arsenal. I don't think anyone expected us to be up there or United to drop down as far as they have. Pellegrini has already won a cup and is fighting for top spot. I suppose the only way it could be seen as a failure in his first seas kid if he had a significant lead at the top of the table at some point and lost it, or if he was in all the cup finals and lost them all. I personally think he's done pretty well in his first season. Knowing this league, I don't think any manager can be expected to walk in and win the league in their first season.

Agree0 Disagree0

His 'entire managerial career' only amounts to a little over five years; he promoted Swansea, that's his one major achievement to date

Agree0 Disagree0

The hearts of every Liverpool fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why refer to Rodgers as Brenda? Are you a Chelsea fan too?

Rodgers started his managerial career in 2008 and looking at the clubs he managed before, what exactly did you expect him to win? Furthermore, how many managers have won anything significant in their first 6 seasons and let's exclude the managers who were given bucket loads of cash to buy success.

As for your Brenda reference, please grow up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Championship play offs

Agree0 Disagree0

Did shankly until he came to Liverpool? I don't think Brendan has no.
Pelligrini won't have failed in my opinion. I like to see managers given time. As long as he has a plan on who he wants how the team plays, and they improve next season I think he'll be fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, considering Brandan has only been a manager for 5 years, the answer is no. He was obviously picked by FSG based on his potential success as opposed to his past success. I have to say I was a doubter when he was appointed. I'm not anymore. He might have done so well since coming to Liverpool because he has had to improve the young players at his disposal, and that's what he used to do a lot of - training youth players. Who knows. All I know for sure is that I couldn't care less about his past clubs, and I will be delighted that his first bit of silverware (whatever it might be) will come to him at Liverpool.

As for Pelligrini, as he said himself - if a team win their final 14 matches, then they deserve to win the league. They haven't had a bad season at all, we would just have had an absolute blinder.

well not the best of topics to discuss atm.

But regarding summer transfers, I think we can have some shrewd signings. there are excellent players out there available for far less money that can improve this team.

For a midfileder Ivan Rakitic or Roberto Firmino would be great. Within our price range. Both have been performing very good. Forget Adam Lallana . the price saints would demand for him would be ridiculous. 30M

For a left Back Scmelzer would be excellent. has a good work ethic and is balanced full back good at defending a s well as going forward. But I see his defensive contribution is better.
If not we defo have a look Ricardo Rodriguez.
Fabio Coentrao would be a wishful signing though.
And once again forget Shaw. Great young player but 30M. nah Also this Guillerm Siquera I am not convinced by him not good enough IMO.

And for an attacking player Konoplyanka. well but for 18 -20M not worth it. I would like to have Xehrdan Shaqiiri, Sebastian Giovincio or Antonio Griezman.

For a striker Aspas agent has said he is not leaving, but unless he develops his physical side of the game I can't see him of being any use to us. At current situation if we loose both Suarez ad Sturridge I am 200% sure we are left with nothing.
And Borini I think he can be a good backup but his performances for Sunderland worries me a lot.
If both Borini and Aspas were to leave we would need another striker to come in.
I think we should get an experienced cover for striker some one like Mirko Vucinic of juventus or Ivica Olic.
If not and if BR wants three top strikers I think Carlos Vela, Loic Remy, Alexandre Lacazette would be great cheap options for that third spot.

And finally we need another goalie to compete with Mignolet, Bard isn't good enough and Mingolet form dips we are left with nothing, Good expereinced one needed.

so 4 players would do it. I guess players like Mosses, Cisskokho, along with probabbly Borini and Aspas will go.

So its no rocket science we can be already for thrilling championsleague nights next season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Liverpool will look at the academy players and bring them through before buying players.
If we have to buy then young and british are more likely options.

Centre back: Micah Richards or Steven Caulker.
Left back: Ryan Bertrand or Luke Shaw.
Centre midfield: Adam Lallana or Will Hughes.
Centre Forward: Jay Rodriguez or Danny Ings.

However, as you say, English players can be expensive so we should look for alternatives.

Centre back: Dejan Lovren.
Left back: Alberto Moreno.
Centre midfield: Dani Parejo.
Centre forward: Rodrigo Moreno.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with all the above in terms of what we need. I'm not sure on the players some I no others less familiar but 100% agree we need a back up keep, striker, LB, also I would want a DM like masch to battle in those physical games. BR always said he wanted 3 players competing for each position which I think is true now we have CL. That sounds nice doesn't it :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Centre back: Adil Rami or Dede
Left back: Schmelzer or Rojo
Centre midfield: Kovacic or Will Hughes
Winger: Cuadrado or Konoplyanka

AM/CM: Suso
ST: Borini

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't he say two for every position?

Agree0 Disagree0

Antonio Griezmann? ha
He would also cost more than Konoplyanka

We have eighteen,
I don't care if they've twenty,
with Rodgers in charge,
I'm sure we'll win plenty.

Suarez and Sturridge
and Sterling as well
this attacking 'S' trio
will put you through hell.

Gerrard is Gerrard,
there is no other word,
to describe this machine,
who's the best in the world.

Jon, Martin,
Daniel and Glen,
Philippe and Jordan
brings us to ten.

So lastly a keeper,
to make this team whole
and in Simon I trust
to keep out the goals.

Without these great players
I'm sure we'd still be
fighting for seventh
or eleventh.? maybe.

But no, we're on top,
without having our fill
So let's do this lads,
for Bob and for Bill.

And let's not forget,
for the ninety-six fans,
whose last match ended,
at Hillsborough stands.
