Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

18 Dec 2012 23:39:29
Please I have nothing against FSG.(Except for choosing rodgers over van gaal after he came out publicly to say he wanted the job)my beef is with rodgers for the 30m he wasted..the rodgers bandwagon tend to avoid that. And how the F**K is sturridge 12m and since when is ince worth 6m.what a joke!!
Say what you like we played better football under kenny, all brendan has done is slowed down our tempo.allen looks clueless going foward, any manager who can make our best attacking threat after suarez (gerrard)look that lost on the pitch definitely isn't good enough for liverpool

PACMAN

Pacman, please stop posting on here. You always post the same illinformed rubbish. You know why we dont attract big players? Because of people like you moaning about our current players.

So whats the solution, Pacman? Get Kenny back? Sack BR after 6 months and replace him with Lambert? Tell Guardiola and Mourinho that they can stop pestering us because the job is now available? Should we get a different manager and get rid of Kenny's purchases AND BR's purchases and give him six months to install his philosophy and win the League (if not, sack him too)?
Or should we give the current manager at least a whole season before judging him and assume he knows marginally more about transfers, tactics and finances than you could ever know?
Just asking.

cozinoz

Ince + sturridge + allen + sahin = 32 mill

Henderson + carroll + downing + adam = 86 million

Say no more

Shak Attack

You're right. Let's forget the fact that Allen has been our top performer this season, even while playing the start of the season out of position. He only looks better now with Lucas back. Those two players together have been the only thing making us look like a football team.

Stop defending gerrard. Its nothing to do with where hes playing. The fact is, simple 10 yard passes are missing targets, and his final balls have been poor. Along with all his corners not getting past the first man.
Benny baller

How is it Rodgers' fault that Stevie can't be half-arsed to track back.

Can some of these people who are calling Allen a flop explain to me if he is so bad how is it from what I have read on here and other sites, news papers and from respected sports pundits that what LFC need is a striker to help finish the abundance of chances we are creating? How we are playing really good passing football? Creating more chances than most teams we play against? Allen is a very talented 22 year old.
Borini as pointed out above one of the youngest to be included in the Italy squad. He is out injured give him a chance.
How has BR wasted 30 million?
And why bash players b4 they even get a chance to wear our shirt? I'm not the biggest sturridge fan, but if we sign him I hope he will help prove our team, I'm not going to start the abuse b4 I c what he can do for us. He may be selfish and arrogant as he gets few chances at Chelsea, even with that he scores gos for them has played for England and at the Olympics. Quite an achievement.
So yeah have your opinion, but if u can't back it up or haven't even seen some one play properly or u haven't got a clue go and have it else where and leave our players alone,
YNWA is meant to mean something.

Life long red

I Agree Pacman. Shak attack seems to bypass the fact that we only paid £35 mill for Carroll as the deal was £15mill less whatever Chelsea payed for Torres. We would've paid £45 if Chelsea had paid £60mill for Torress. Either way Torres and Babel out, Carroll and Suarez in with change.

Ozone

Shak attack, Sahins costing he club the equivalent of £225k a week to warm the bench. How's that good business. Borini scored once, Allen not needed, Assiadi doesn't play. LFC victories to date Southampton, Norwich, Wigan and a stroke of luck in beating west ham. Not a great deal of progress when you look at it or what it is.

Ozone

Dont pick him then, if brenden keeps picking him it is his fault

We're pretty much smack bang in the middle of the table and the goal diff of teams and above tell the story... except for Spurs and Norwich it's +'s going up to high GD with City/Utd above us and -'s below going down to Reading.

I think we need more than just strikers - I think we need to improve defensively as well. Buy strikers and work on tactics for better defense.

19 Dec 2012 00:00:44
John Hartson is that you? He said the exact same thing on MOTD2

18 Dec 2012 23:27:30
Just heard sturrige will sign for 15m. Good signing for you

Brendan

19 Dec 2012 00:03:53
You mean £12million...

Ill form my own opinion thank you very much Mr Rodgers :P
Benny baller

12m---15m both way to expensive for an unproven footballer who hasnt played a game this season virtually.

Not my ideal striker.

18 Dec 2012 23:04:38
Hey ed's,
The rumours are that we will have to pay £12-15m for Sturridge. Do you think Lukaku would be a better option for around the same fee? He is only 19, and is a quality player who will only get better and better!

Red Lee {Ed002's Note - But not available.}

19 Dec 2012 00:06:59
If Lukaku was english you'd probably say he was the new heskey but because he's foreign you think he's gonna be boss.
I think Sturridge will do well for us.

18 Dec 2012 22:55:41
ed are liverpool looking at williams of swansea thanks keep up good work

Haven't you seen what he said about Suarez?

This isn't one of those "Villa beat us so we need new centre halves" kind of reactions, is it?

18 Dec 2012 21:32:29
Liverpool enquiring about Will Buckley from Brighton!

Would get him cheap and fits as a forward winger that wants to get into the box.

Pacheco going the other way.

Quick question do you think at this point the club has identified players and are currently in discussions with any interested?

There are a lot of players available this window and some would be in demand more than others, but surely the club has begun some kind of formal enquiries with clubs and even players.

Ed do you know if we currently have any interest in Ander Hererra? Would be a good addition to the team.

I have just been walking past Melwood when I saw Walcott, Sturridge and Tom Ince playing headers and volley's!! Ince was in goal and Walcott was crossing the ball.
I only seen them for a second and I could have been mistaken It may have been Walcott in goal with Ince crossing it.

How do you like those apples

You know why that's a lie?
Because Walcott can't cross a ball.

I saw them too lad! Then they started arguing over some women called Granny Smith !!

18 Dec 2012 20:59:34
Ince deal done, sturridge on going and Jeffren on loan if Downing goes as reported 3 weeks ago.Nothing else is happening.Forget Walcott,Huntelaar and Ba we are been used by the agents to get a better deal for their players.

P.S Sterling contact to be signed first few days of Jan along with Ince, sturridge deals and new deal for jon jo as a show by the owners for securing young English players

Tom Ince is a bad signing! We let him go for a reason now we are signing him back. Gutterd! Before anyone says look at fabregas etc. there is no comparison. Ince will never be a fabregas, lets face it he's b*******, championship player at best. Sick of us signing pure rubbishe now. It's not fair, mid table until we spend big an compete with ya man city's, Chelsea even man utd. Speak the truth!

You actually said 'it's not fair'. ha ha.

19 Dec 2012 00:11:41
Who, right now, should we sign then....?? G

"It's not fair'
Sums you up in a nutshell. Go tidy your toys up and put them back in the pram.

Ince is a winger... so ofcourse he will never be a fabregas.. they play in different positions!

Completly agree with u i think we should rather go for isaac cuecna of barcelona who is available and is a quality player.

18 Dec 2012 22:53:40
"Brendan if you new what you were doing you would have bought a couple of DECENT players in the last window NOT RUBBISH like Allen & Borini. Just DONT repeat the mistake by buying Sturridge!"

Rory Smith of the Times is claiming Ince and Sturridge are both done deals and will be announced in early Jan.

So news now has every link showing ince and sturridge as dead cert's,what would line up be if we dis sign them both? I'd like to see BR have the balls to play with two up front so 4_4_2 for me with suaerz and sturridge in attack, sterling and ince on the wings, shelvey and lucas in the middle, the back four should be johnson, agger, skrtyl and enrique with pepe in goal if he doesn't **** off in january.so that leaves us with a bench of borini, gerrard, allen.wisdom and jones

henderson will be in and out of the team and will battle it out over the next two seasons with shelvey to take gerrards place in the side.also hoping that assaidi comes good.

ReDeX

The balls to play 2 up front instead of 3?

18 Dec 2012 22:06:40
Walcott staying at Arsenal now he'll be playing the central striker role.

merka

I can pretty much guarantee he will be played in the centre for a few games until the window closes and he'll be moved back to the wings.

18 Dec 2012 20:43:17
after arsenals game yesterday playing walcott down the middle in the striker position, i think we will be seeing a lot more of that in games to come, which will probably persuade him to sign a new deal at arsenal unfortunately.. hope this is not the case and we (liverpool) can sign him!

With appar Ince and Sturridge coming, i think Walcott will be next, dont know if any deal with Arsenal will include Reina or and Downing in the mix, but if we got all 3 it wud be a bonus.

19 Dec 2012 00:20:28
Surely he was played down the middle yesterday because he scored a hat-trick against them last time?

18 Dec 2012 20:34:55
lets not all go blaming br and owners for where we are at right now.its the previous pair of persons that fooked our club h/g.fsg bought a 50/50 chance when they saved us from becoming a rangers, portsmouth, leeds no disrespect to them clubs but they were all decent clubs.mr dalglish n commoli must also take some flak after there mistakes.like it or not we need to build from the bottom again and i believe fsg n br will make us great again just give them time.i to get annoyed with results and decisions that dont go are way but keep the faith guys cos after all we are l.f.c. and footballs best fans.YNWA hope jan brings us some pleasent deals and a happy new year...

19 Dec 2012 00:13:18
Mate Rodgers needs money to take liverpool foward without decent investment we are going to be left behind. Time won't bring the players which we need to take us foward but decent investment will.

I don't understand how we are moving foward by wanting Sturridge or Ince coz at best they are squad players. It seems we don't learn from our mistakes and continue wasting lots of money for players who are not our Answers. Something needs to change very quickly. We always look at players who are midtable quality rather then top quality. If you see our squad we have wasted a lot of money buying midtable players and now we have ended finishing midtabe for 3-4 years coz our Squad is full of midtable players with exception of 2-3 players. If we don't start competing for atleast top4 then will be very difficult to hold on players like Suarez.

18 Dec 2012 22:50:21
January Transfer Targets Update
Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, Atletico Madrid attacker Arda Turan and Valencia winger Sofiane Feghouli.
In addition to the above there is continued speculation over Daniel Sturridge and Thomas Ince,

18 Dec 2012 22:49:59
Ins:
Daniel Sturridge - 10milion
Tom Ince - 5million

Outs:
Stewart Downing - 5million
Joe Cole - 3million

Plausible Ins but I think we can only afford to lose one player in jan given how thin our squad is. I'd prefer Cole leaving instead of Downing if I'm honest because Downing is a decent back up and everytime Cole's started/come on, he hasn't been that good.

Will people stop suggesting we will get 2-3m for Cole. We would have to pay up 12 months of the remainder of his contract and let him leave on a free to get him off the wage bill. Ie we would save 6 mths of his salary which is something like 2m. Doni will be released saving almost 1m on wages and if Downing is sold it won't be for 5m - more like 9-10m. Stoke or Sunderland could be options. More likely he leaves on loan in Jan to a club who want to buy him in the summer.

BRs comments of late have certainly caused anxiety amongst most supporters- my wish list which probably won't happen (because BR has shown he likes going for players he has previously worked with or the owners won't give him the funds he needs) would be

Best case scenario-
Feghouli
David Villa-Loan
Diame

Would settle for-
Huntelaar
Burak Yilmaz
Sturridge

Unhappy if we got-
Ince
Dyer
Walcott

Think you'll be looking for a bridge to jump off!!

19 Dec 2012 00:25:28
Your 'would settle for' is far better than your 'best case scenario.'

David Villa on form is a far better goalscorer than Huntelaar or Burak Yilmaz
Diame is the steel and driving force we need in midfield to help Lucas
Feghouli is creative and an intelligent player off the ball and he is much better than Sturridge.

18 Dec 2012 22:08:35
I do believe Rodgers should be given time cause changing managers all the time gets us no where! But I do think he needs help buying players I can see us signing sturridge and ince, and that's it! I still think that leaves us short of an out and out striker! We don't need both of those players!maybe one of them and a poacher!

18 Dec 2012 21:49:48
Eds ,fellow reds , I am not a football manager .but why is Tom ince looking like he is our first signing . Spend that £5 million on a striker just in case nothing else comes in ,for what ever reason ,would hooper not be that sort of figure .

What a random collection of words this post is.

Hooper has Champions League - why would he give that up now?

cozinoz

Cozinoz - I'm not saying I'd like Hooper to join (although I actually think he'd be pretty decent), but don't you think, regardless of CL football, he'd prefer to play in the PL? Bearing in mind it is a far bigger challenge, playing with and against a host of the world's best known names - the CL is one competition, the PL gives you the opportunity to play in a lot of different tournaments as well as in one of the toughest leagues in the world, and ultimately with better wages. I reckon he'd jump at the chance.

JFT 96

JP

Fair comment mate, and you would probably be right if it were the Summer transfer window. But I don't see any reason why Hooper would come in Jan.
Three goals against Barca in the next round and half of Europe will be throwing cash his way :)

His best position is that of a second striker.

Physically, he is slight and not very quick. He's not going to win much aerially.

Technically, he has a brilliant first touch and good close control as well as a good eye for a through ball. If you have players making runs, I would back Pacheco to find them. If I was going to compare him to someone's style (ie not saying he is as good as him I would say Pablo Aimar.

More likely to score a lot of spectacular goals than a lot of goals

i am i correct by saying when ince played for the reds at whatever level people where singing his praises ,now there is interest in him maybe returning, they are saying he is quality in championship ,but not good enough for prem .How can that be ? he now has play time on his side and must be fit and he scores goals.fans are strange ! allfc

18 Dec 2012 19:58:42
Its clear what we are missing!
Backup DM
Powerhouse midfield
Pace on the wings
Out and Out goalscorer

LFC need competition for Lucas..dont get me wrong i love the guy but we need good backup...

We also need new Stevie ...Diame would have been steel in the summer for free..somebody like this that can bring defence to attack from pure pace and drive..

We badly lack pace on the wings to stretch teams...people may slate me but Sterling is very predictable..yes i know he is 17..but RW doesn't suit him...BR should trust him and play LW like he did for reserves...

Also a clinical finisher..i am obsessed with Suarez but face it he aint gonna score when he should ..we need goalscorer..

I even think 4-3-3 is good formation once you have the players know how to play....anyway i keep the faith in rodgers cos it is still not his team yet...we have to give him til next summer window and see how his team is...Like all fans i want us back intop 4 and playing unreal... but we have to believe in BR will get it right..Also I think he should prove he has balls and drop Stevie because he needs rest bigtime!

Jaws

Well said lad. best and most accurate post i have seen in a while, gerrard is not an on the field leader either, his attitude is rotten, he needs to be hooked

majestic69

18 Dec 2012 22:21:07
4-3-3 blows arse, gimme 2 strikers any day of the week

Gerrard should either drop into the holding role or to become super sub from the bench, shelvey and henderson should be going toe to toe fighting to claim the spot as its obviously up for grabs. Could gerrard even possibly play in defense?

I dont know why but I have a feeling that Suarez will leave in the summer...His agents have already talked to a couple of clubs...

So the summer is not going to be as simple as we think it to be....

Gerrard will have a year left on his contract...
Carragher is in his last season unlessthey agree a new contract...
Brendan Rodgers isnt playing Coates...
Nuri Sahin will not be coming back after his game time in the first 5-6 months plus Mourinho may depart... so its a clean slate for him at Madrid....
There is lots of speculation on Reina...
Fulham want Henderson...

Is Brendan Rodgers the man who can handle all this in addition to get us the players we need now?

With his current success rate, it makes me nervous...

Though Shak Attack will pounce with his emotional outbursts, I am already listening and reading that senior figures at Liverpool are allegedly concerned about the people he has brought in...Its alleged that they feel that too many of them have come just because of past acquaintances and clouded judgement...

One of the possible reasons for vetoing the Dempsey move.....

LiverBird

Back up DM? err allen?lucas?gerrard?sahin?shelvey?henderson?

Powerhouse midfield?Gerrerd?Shelvey?

pace on the wings?will be answered in jan with the arrival of sturridge and ince, we already have sterling, assaidi and ibe about to burst onto the scene

out and out goal scorer? I'm looking forward to watching suarez and sturridge run rings around every defense in the premier league

positive mental attitudee my friend,PMA

rEdEx

You're partly right but you don't play wingers in a 4-3-3. The front 3 should all be forwards

Jaws,

I agree with everything apart from 'pace on the wings' - we're not going toet much quicker than Sterling. The problem is, the opposition backline are practically on their keeper and we don't have the creativity to unlock that.

The lack of real quality in the front 3 is what we're lacking, and obviously a out and out scorer. Sterling, Suso, even Shelvey are good players but not top, top quality just yet.

I agree with all the rest.

Just because we are Liverpool football club does not give us a god given right to automatically be at the top of the table. If we are playing poorer other team above us then we deserve to be 12th, and just because you say so does not mean we derserve a player such as cavani's standards. We have to find our own hidden gems and turn them into world beaters, other teams manage to do it time and time again ;cough-arsenal-cough.

Of course we have a right to have some of the best teams in England, one of the best organisations and one of the best manager. We are Liverpool Football Club, and we deserve better than the five past year. Of course we deserve that. But we have to fight for it. And we have to protest and fight in a positive and sensibel Way. DanielDenmark

Best manager? BR still has a lot to prove. On Saturday's showing alone, one should ask- Perhaps Paul Lambert is more of a manager than BR?

How about Norwich Manager?...they are on 10 game unbeaten streak in PL..Is that how we have started judging Manager's Capabilities....Tomorrow if West Ham qualifies for CL, would you take Big Hoof the Ball Sam as LFC Manager...Oh God! Knowledgeable and LiverPool Fans has started to sound as Antonyms cause of witty guys like you who dont even bother to sign their posts with fear of getting recognized.

Interesting how many fickle fans there really are out there, up untill saturday we were 4 points off 4th, with a thin squad and one striker! So is rodgers really doing that bad? People on here called for rafa to be sacked then put him on a pedastal, there are to many unrealistic fans that still wouldnt be happy if we signed messi and ronaldo in january and didnt win every game 10-0.
There are so many reasons why we are where we are, and the current staff are not that reason, give rodgers time, we dont have money to buy our way out of trouble, yeah 3/4 years ago our squad was good, but finacially it was crippling the club, so we are rebuilding, i for one like the young raw talent we have, and but for a lack of end product at times we would be alot higher up the table.
The football at times has been predictable but at other times fantastic. And with 2/3 new faces could go on a decent run and finish strong.
People on this site have been crying out for sterling, for suso wisdom etc a chance and rodgers has done what previous managers failed to do, and that was give them a chance! He will be a great manager in the coming years!

Matt 28

It was Rodgers who paid £15 mill for Allen, £10mill for Borini, let Carroll go whilst being fully aware of the limited budget. He brings Sahin in who reportedly costs us £225k a week when you break down the signing on fee, relocation costs and gross wage to cover the difference between UK and The Spanish tax regime. He has also regularly played Sterling prior to him turning 18 and given his agent a strong arm in negotiations to justify a salary consistent with first team regulars. He has also played arrogant silly mind games with envelopes and destroyed the confidence if Downing and Hendo. All this in less than 6 months. In my opinion he is accountable in some capacity for our current position.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - are you seriously suggesting it was a mistake to play Sterling? Are you really trying to use that as an argument to suggest Rodgers doesn't know what he is doing? As for the idiotic comments about Downing and Henderson's confidence, that was destroyed by the fans last season! How anyone can suggest that Rodgers has ruined their confidence, after the dreadful treatment the pair of them have suffered by the fans whining constantly and abusing them, I really don't know. You are blaming him for everything because of your petty bias against him. Ridiculous post full of nonsense.}

Skrtel's back pass = 2 points
Suarez goal aginst everton =2 points
enrique's goal against swansea=2points

how many of those are rodger's falt?

that would put us on 28 points in 5th place 1point behind being in 3rd halfway through his first year in charge of lfc.

wating for your reply ozone

KUMBER

I agree Henderson and downings confidence was ruined last season but Rodgers has done nothing this season to build their confidence back up.

Sterlings been poorly managed. Rodgers has Juggled resources to suit his one dimensional vision and as a consequence there's shortcomings in various areas. Budget handled poorly and let face it he's managed to dodge a bullet on that one given the distraction the transfer deadline day created. Isn't it a managers job to reinvigorate a player low on confidence? Not impound the problem with arrogant envelope waving. Johnny Barnes has openly said he was a player who needed an arm around him. Rodgers hasn't got that in his locker. All he's got is damaging cliche spin. You wouldn't have got Kenny using envelopes to motivate players.

Ozone

Evening Ed01. I don't know if you've met Ozone before, but he has a direct hotline to CIA HQ. He knows what's really going on.
Hence the reason that he can see before the rest of us that 35m on Carroll was a far better goals to games prospect than some chump called Borini. His proof is in the fact that Borini has only managed to score an odd goal or two before getting injured, whereas carrol has set east London on fire.

BigBadBen {Ed002's Note - Man, being a lover back in the 70s cannot reasonably held against folks now.}

Ozone has been miserable on here for well over a year now. He hated Andy Carroll, he hated FSG and now it's BRs turn. It's nearly Xmas, Ozone....cheer up and stop drowning everyone else in your negative misery. I can organise a group hug if you like?

No quick fixes! The other day he said we would be runners up! I simply don't trust him with our money. He already wasted £28 mil and if spend another 20 mil on sturridge and ince will be £48 mil and we keep saying we don't have money, no Brendan you don't know how to spend, who would like to see Sami hypia as lfc manager {Ed052's Note - He didn't say we would be second. He didn't say we would come second at all like ed just said? And how can you seriously say he wasted 28 million?! Allen been playing out of position for a young lad he's done well it's not been easy. Borini is injured!! He's had 5 games you cannot not judge him on that. Assadi has been decent the games he's played he just needs to get a bit more strength and sahin is the only one you can argue hasn't really had a great start but he still has another 6 months! God you people are so annoying!

Red twist

Eds I do support liverpool. And I did not say that sturrige and ince will cost 20 mil, and will sing. I said if is a big difrence,and for being a wast? Would you pay £15 for Allen 10 for borini? {Ed001's Note - give it a rest, you will only know what someone is worth when they leave. Rush was the most expensive teenager in Britain, when we bought him, it took him over 3 years to get settled in. Nowadays we would have the likes of you hounding him out of the club after a week! This is pathetic.}

Ed 52 why does questioning liverpool football clubs manager staff and owners stop you being a liverpool fan. Surley it shows that he/she wants the best for the club. which surely is a better fan than someone who questions nothing. Antrim Red {Ed052's Note - I understand that you can question then, but I like to think that calma exists. Should we support the club and never question, un waining support will result in great results. In fighting will only to more problems, and waining support}

ST/FWD: Mauro Zarate £8m
AM: Wesley Sneijder £10m
LW: Tom Ince £4m
RW: J.Suarez loan
LB: Didac Vila £3.5m

Players out
Downing £8m

next spending £17m

Sneijder is on 200k a week the reason he will leave inter is because he refused a pay cut.
will end up at real/man c/psg we dont have their money

Zarate hasn't consistantly if even played for lazio since his failed lon spell at inter was it ? why would we spend 8 million on him. If we got him 4 seasons ago then great but not now.

Can someone please explain to me what the hell Shelvey is about?
Over rated player. Take a look at his shot ratio, probably 1 goal every 50 shots!!
Would play Assaidi over him every time.
Quality with pace and flare

He's not only got talent, he's also 100% committed to LFC, and plays every game with his heart on his sleeve. He is not far away from being a first team regular, and I for one think that with 1 more season behind him he will be top drawer. We need more players that show that level of commitment.

Nick

I like shelvey he has that determination/anger that suarez has. with the time he has on his side he can go far.

My Dad just read a text to me that he got from his mate. His mate has supposedly had a chat with Mike Marsh who said a number of things.

-Negotiating with Walcott, Sturridge and Llorente but there is a lot of competition.
-Sterling will sign
-There is another midfielder in the works but his name has not been revealed.

All seems pretty standard.

And then..
-Martin Kelly has been on the receiving end of a big money bid from Man Utd and he wants to go.

That done it for me. Surely not? I don't believe it but just thought I'd pass on.

Cheers.

Martin Kelly is a staunch LFC fan as well as player! He come's from the same place as Stevie G So your saying that you've been told that he want's to go to United? Nah! not having that at all! If you read this site Martin put everyone in the picture of how much you love LFC! Or if that is the case there is something very wrong going on at Anfield!

Llorente wont happen

Kelly is from Huddersfield NOT the same place as stevie g, hence no scouse accent. He joined liverpool when he was around 14

Martin Kelly originates from Newton-le-Willows

Hi unsigned poster. Martian Kelly here. I will be moving to Dagenham and Redbridge so I can get a part on TOWIE. Sorry to burst your bubble. Now stay away from the sharp objects.

Hi eds! What do you think Will happend and not happend in this januari window? If you can guess players in and players out? {Ed052's Note - Guessing, STurridge and Ince}

18 Dec 2012 18:37:49
Ince looks good in the Championship but I have doubts about him in Premiership.

18 Dec 2012 18:35:35
Personally I think sturridge and Walcott would be excellent additions for us in January. The jury's still out on Tom Ince coming back as the championship and premier are 2 different leagues but time will tell.
Eds, who do you personally think will join including loanees?

Stevie J {Ed052's Note - It is impossible to tell. Sturridge, Ince look probable. Jefren maybe?}

18 Dec 2012 18:30:04
eds,
why do we want sturridge he cant even get in the chelski team and do you think walcott would be a good signing. Personally i think he would be a great signing and better than sturridge and ive heard that the ince deal is pretty much done. {Ed052's Note - Sturridge has good pace, decent touch and can play in any position of the front three. He is young, relatively cheap and British. Thats why we want him}

Look at the chelski team and compare it to ours. There's is far superior (due to money) so there is no point saying just because he can't get into the Chelsea squad then he can't make it into ours. That is simply not the case. I admit he should get playing time over Torres but look who their manager is. Rafael Benitez...there's no chance he's going to bench Torres. Plus abromovich made it clear to di matteo and Benitez that because he spent £50 mill on him he has to get conisistent games. Sturridge is a quality player, not world class yet. I would like Walcott but sturridge is looking more and more likely.

Sorry Ed what has being british got to do with anything? I really hope our transfer strategy is not based around what nationality people are. Quality is what counts full stop! {Ed052's Note - it's not solely on nationality but if the players are British it means they are suited to our league, should fit in quicker and help to fill our English quota}

18 Dec 2012 18:01:51
i think we should snake some new scouts from

athletico madrid
athletico bilbao
porto
sporting lisbon
swansea
newcastle
ajax

and save money on spending big on players , becasue we will already have the best players if we get the best scouts :) obv not included barca cos there scouts wouldnt want to come to us probs

REDAN

Scouts usually work for a few clubs. They are not usually employed by the clubs but instead paid a fee to go watch certain players or to go to certain leagues and pick which players they think are best and compile reports on those clubs.

Only problem is mate that we are, whether we like it or not, classed as a club that can cough up big time if we want a player. This is due to our global reputation and the fact we play in the richest league in the world. Joe Allen would have cost Sunderland 8m, Jordan Henderson likewise if West Ham had gone in for him. This is why the academy is so important. We need to develop our own players, unearth gems before other big clubs take a punt and supplement with proven quality only rarely as it will cost.

PieInTheSkyMan

Teams like that take risks buying players who have not lived up to the expectations or players who are inconsistant and some of them turn out to successful but most fail and it is most likely that big team scouts also look at the player that thee team sign but they go decide not to buy, due to their reasons. so it doesn't matter if we dont have their scouts.

Uzi

18 Dec 2012 17:42:44
Open letter to BR.
Here's a list of players who will improve our team at the moment who I think we could buy realistically.

Berbatov 10 mill?
Ba - 8 mill?
Bony - 10 mill?
Gomis - 20 mill?
Erikson - 20 mill +?
Michu - 15 mill?

We need 2 strikers Brendan - and maybe an attacking mid. Everywhere else is sound for me.

All of these might seem long shots but so did Saurez before he signed. We have to make a massive statement this window. It simply hasn't been good enough to have one striker at a club like Liverpool. Our rivals have at least 3 top strikers. I'd go for Berbatov personally, I don't know why we didn't move in the summer, our scouts are rubbishe. Don't give me the rhetoric about resale value, we need the finished article - NOW.

good luck reds - please don't piss the money away on mediocrity again. It's better to spend a bit more on quality than risk it.

Gazman

P.s where has suso gone - he's been my player of the season so far, much more impressive than sterling?

18 Dec 2012 19:08:02
Out of those you've listed, the only one I'd sign is Ba.

Berbatov is a lazy, lethargic excuse for a footballer who only plays well when he feels like it. It wouldn't surprise me if he stopped performing for Fulham for the rest of the season just because he wasn't bothered anymore.

Michu's had half a season in the PL, and as spectacular as it has been, do we remember what happened the last time we bought a striker off the back of half a good season in the PL?

Never seen Bony play and Gomis has spent 5 of the last 6 years averaging 1 in 3 in France.

I do not envision Christian Eriksson coming unless the rest of Europe decides they're not interested in him anymore.

Just because we're short strikers doesn't mean we should just go out and buy whoever's available. Is it worth signing Gary Twigg on a freebie? He's a striker and we need one, after all.

GAZMAN Brendan here. Can't waitto make your proposals to john and tom. Can't beleive I missed them.

Hey Eds

Two questions for you ,

Which premiership team do you think has the best squad?

Why are Man united so good at winning games even when they are 1 or 2 goals down?

Thanks

WhyamImrsparkle {Ed052's Note - I think Spurs has one of the strongest squads and should probably be higher than it is. They are becuase of spirit. You have to give them that. Fickle fans dont call for SAF to be sacked if they lose one match...}

If you took away all the points Man United get from games won with the help of bias referee decisions they would struggle to get into the top 4 the last few seasons. That is how such an average squad can be top of the league.

18 Dec 2012 19:05:20
I think SAF has a lot to do with why Man U have the ability to grind out so many results from being down. Every player wants to keep on his good side - like Chitarito recently.

Jolly Red

They did before he won anything.

City have the best squad. id say spurs have the fifth best squad

City, chelsea & spurs!

Q1 best squads: 1) City 2) United 3) Chelsea 4) Spurs 5) Arsenal J6) Everton/Liverpool

Q2 becuase of the Manager, the Spirit he has instilled into the squad over time and because of the Belief that comes from the experience of pulling off so many comebacks. Each one of the current United squad knows what it is like to comeback to win, so they believe they can do it each time. And they never stop til the final whistle or else they'll get the 'hairdryer' or the 'boot to the head' lol.

so BR has come out and said "All our problems were never going to be solved in this window because the January window is one of the least productive and the least movement goes on there"
This doesn't fill me with confidence. Its obvious now and it was obvious at the beginning of the season that all we need is a goal scorer, Tom Ince isn't what we need, put Assiadi in the championship and he would be top goal scorer! If BR cant see that and doesn't sign one then come the end of February the 'BR out!' brigade will be gathering in large numbers!

j.m

We have much deeper problems then just needing a goalscorer

I could list then all but would be accused of something or other

Liberias31

Our problems will be solved with a different manager.

And what if fsg does'nt give him the money for a top striker? the manager always has to take the flak when most times it's not his fault
jaycee

Brenden is just being honest, the club no longer has the money to buy quality players either in the summer or January.

We just have to hope the small money he is given he can find a gem of a player who can score and assist in creating chances, who will accept budget wages which we can now only offer.

It's a big few months for us as if we we don't get in the top 6 (good chance we won't as there are many teams with similar aspirations ad better squads) we will lose the few quality players we have in Suarez, Reina.....

Here's hoping :-)

Buy superman..
score, assist, midfield, can play anywhwere...

We must remain optimistic because its about the only thing we can do, so lets just get behind the team redmen.

18 Dec 2012 17:15:16
I honestly cannot think of another time that so many top forwards were available at once.
Llorente,Huntelaar,Ba and Walcott would all improve us.
We need to make this window count,or the summer if a few run down their contracts past January.
Personally i'd go for Llorente, but i know he's got better options.
We have loads of prospects and they look class, but if we can activate Ba's clause for 7 million, thats not bad,we must spend for the here and now. Not big signings with huge fee's and wages, but he's still a proven goalscorer for a decent price.

I doubt we'll get him either though,i think he wants Sturridge because of his versatility,i doubt Ba could play all 3 roles.

WelshBoyDave

Where is the money coming from to buy players now or in the summer?

Why will summer improve our financiual outlook?

Liberias31

We won't. for we are liverpool. and we never do anything we ever should in transfer windows. in fact maing ourselves look the laughing stock is the norm, old boy.

What about Ba's ticking time bomb knee?

18 Dec 2012 18:41:26
I'd go for Ba if he was even remotely interested in joining, tbh. I think he's got the ability to score for nearly any team in any league.

People like Long and Cisse you can argue are flashes in the pan, but Ba scored at West Ham, scored at Newcastle last year (he only stopped cos he was moved to the left wing, see how many Cisse's scored playing off the left & right of a front three, not many eh?) and he's doing it again this year.

If he hadn't broken his leg early in his career he'd probably be playing for a top club.

- Something Red -

Hunterlaar and llorente wont happen I believe!

18 Dec 2012 19:38:27
It won't improve our financial outlook,it'll just mean we are paying signing on fee's for the above players instead of transfer fee's(Ba excluded).
I assume if they are out of contract it comes down to wages and player preference,if we can get Joe Cole off the wage bill, with maybe one or two others than are not in Brendans plans then we may be able to put together a decent package and tempt em to sign for us.
If they all go elsewhere and play well, and we get another prospect who doesn't hit the ground running, now will be the time we look back at for good strikers on the cheap(how much will Llorentes price have dropped on the last day in January, compared to the £35 million bid we had rejected?).
The truth is,if they didn't all have contract issues,i wouldn't consider them viable targets, but who wouldn't love to see some managerial prowess by snapping one up and them doing the business?
I know its all ifs and buts, but its better than arguing(apologies for my part in that Ed.)

Liverbird,

Okay smarty pants, show me a quote where BR said "we will finish 2nd"

Go on! He said at the time that we are 11 points off man city which was a fact and that we need to find consistency in our game if we want to challenge that high in the table because things can turn around very quickly

Now tell me whats wrong with what he said?

Dont u think liverpool should be consistent? He said our AMBITION is to GROW HIGHER do u not agree that we should be ambitious and look to the top of the table?

Im sorry but when so called supporters like u find any small straw to clutch hpld of to slate the manager, players and whoever else then how can you then be expected to be called a "real fan"

Insult? Haha u serious?

Ohh we wouldnt want to insult the likes of LiverBird, Ozone, PacMan and crew who consistently slate LFC, our manager BR, out youngesters, our senior players, our owners and fellow fans

Theres one thing being constructive i hae no probz with that whatsoever but there consant digs at everyone in our club is irrational and bang out of order and they are a big part of the blame for the downfall of our club

This is one example, "finishing 2nd" when BR never even said that but these guys take a out of context quote knowingly and run with it just to beat down BR even more its disgraceful mate

Okay maybe i should show a little more class and not call them dalglish fan boys and i apologize for that

But that being said thats what it comes down to for some posters, they would rather see BR, the players, owners and thus the club fail just so they can say justify dalglish's last reign

Cheers

I do not write with emotions attached to the keyboard...

After the Aston Villa match, Liverpool Echo received 400 posts out of which only 5 could be made out to favour Brendan Rodgers...

You should also visit The Tomkins Times for his latest article on Brendan Rodgers...

The Times editor Tony Evans and the other journos has been pretty vocal about Brendan Rodgers' shortcomings as a manager...

The only reason Brendan Rodgers does not have the spotlight on him from the British media is because they have larger fishes to fry with Wenger, Benitez and Mancini around....

The problem with you is that you think backing the manager is exempting him from any blame...

Your post is almost child like.....You dont come up with any significant arguement or observation....

I have seen your posts and there is very little content in your posts...

I have said all along that Brendan Rodgers should be given until the end of next season but dont even think for a moment that he shouldnt be criticised for things which got Kenny Dalglish the sack....

In terms of the turnover of players as well as spending on transfer fees, let me tell you that Brendan Rodgers is almost on the same page as Kenny Dalglish....May be Brendan Rodgers has brought in a couple of players less...Thats just about it....

As far as Dalglish fan boys is concerned, I am sorry to say that I am a Rafa fan out and out.... Its just happens to be that I fell in love with the King, his dignity, his style of play
and above all his ability to put the media in their place, once I saw him in the dugout at Old Trafford...

I know Gerard and Allen are a bit off form at this time but that's not even the major problem.
For me, our biggest problem lies in our toothless forwards - Sterling and Shelvey. These two lads are so overrated when in the real sense, both are simply below average. Slate me all you like but this is the truth.

Yes they are both young and not the finished products we want them to be but isn't that why they need not be regulars in our starting eleven? To keep playing these lads simply potrays our manager as clueless at best. Their contribution to the team is so minimal and inconsistent, yet people prefer to turn on Allen and Gerard who in my view are doing thier job which is why we dominate games but can't score.

You will agree with me that we created so many chances versus Villa but failed to put them away, owing to our toothless forwards. Now, tell me who created these chances? Of course the midfield and Suarez did. Yet they were never converted.

As a way forward, Rodgers needs to rest Shelvey and Sterling simple as.

On the issue of transfers, I would be happy with Sofiane Feghouli, Burak Yilmaz and Daniel Sturridge. These should be our regulars if they are eventually signed while the likes of Suso, Sterling, Shelvey and Wisdom should remain on the periphery until they are mature and ready for the task.

But should we fail to sign the trio or other similar targets for any reason like we did last January, then Rogers would have over achieved if he manages to keep us comfortable mid table.

Abroad Red

Agree with the Shelvey and Sterling comments

Okay football manager of the year who should he be playing? U seem to forget we dont have anyone else! All wr have is youngsters suso shelvs sterling etc and they will all be inconsistent because of their age and inexperience

Sterlings a kid and is one of the hottest prospects in the world and shelvey is 20 yrs old

How many players at that age do u know who are the finished product and dont have inconsistence?

Shak Attack

I agree with the Gerrard comment only he's doing a fine job in the position he is being asked to play

The position Gerrrard is playing in is not his best position but BR knows best doesn't he?

18 Dec 2012 18:33:20
1) Sterling's been our most productive attacker apart from Suarez. That said, he is only 18, and I agree he needs a rest. But just a rest, he doesn't need to be dropped completely. To say his 'not ready' for it does him a dis-service.

2) Shelvey isn't first choice anyway.

3) Allen is in poor form irrespective of what the others are doing (what chances did he create against Villa?) and it's seriously time to consider letting Henderson start a couple, or starting Suso in the middle instead of on the wing.

- Something Red -

Well we had Carroll, Suarez, Maxi, Bellamy and Kuyt...

But Brendan "PASS" Rodgers retained Suarez and let all others go away...

And yes he bought Borini....

Leaving us with two senior strikers but it is not his fault..Thats what some people would have you believe..

Messi has signed a new deal until 2018 so it looks like his suitors have been put off the scent of trying to buy him. However I can confirm that his new contract is a smokescreen to strengthen Barca's hand in negotiations. The swap with Stewart Downing will still go ahead, but rather than them having to pay an extra £15 million on top, his lengthy contract means they'll now only have to pay £5 million plus Messi. Expect the announcement on the first day of Christmas - my true love gave to me, a Stweart Downing swap for Messi. I'm certainly in the know because I don't like to drop names, but I was talking to Stewart only the other day about it. I'm the UPS delivery man who dropped off his "Shakin' Stevens Christmas Favourites" CD from Amazon. The flash git could have had free super saver delivery on it but paid an extra £6.95 for courier service because he just couldn't wait to blast out "Merry Christmas Everyone" on his Sony Discman while he was walking his dog.

Other rumours include Torsten Frings coming in on the fifth day of Christmas and Baird on the fourth day of Christmas, although I'm not sure if that is Chris Baird the Fulham defender or John Baird the Dundee striker.

Happy Christmas everyone

Sean

Here's how the Fulham game goes. 20 minutes in - hit the post 3 times, Saurez booked for diving on a stonewall pen. 44 minutes Fulham get a corner - 1-0. 50 mins - Saurez hits bar twice and has 3 more pens declined. 70 mins - cole comes on for sterling - Fulham go close. 80 minutes - we throw everything forward and score... But it's disallowed for offside. 85 mins - Gerrard off for Henderson. Game ends with Rodgers stating we should have won. man u arsenal will never get the money back they spend on these players.

we have a new coach new ideas it will take time,
BR is hoping we get into the CL this year so he can buy top class players, getting there is the hard part unless FSG will spend money before we have CL Football and thats a risk.
i have posted this before and really believe it,if in jan we could be close to the top 4 FSG could give the green light to spend more.
if we are 7/8 points behind the top 4 they will only buy towards the future and spend in summer.
thats why villa loss hurt so much.
BR needs a leg to stand on next window to recieve extra funds.
close to top 4 will help us all.
MALTA

Becoz...they both are getting results...and for them money is not precious...they have and they can spend at their own wishes...

Great post. its like fergie as much as we all hate him just got sick of flops and went paid for what he knew was a good thing in van persie, thats what i would prefer us to do 1 big signing 1 10m and a good young player for the future next couple windows. That would sort r probs out.with the high earning flops phased out.Tommy Irish Red

Tbf, Arsene is getting a fair bit of stick at the moment. Whilst there's less obsession over his individual signings (partly due to low individual fees) the fact that they aren't performing is surely feeding into that discontent. If Gervinho was playing like Pires at his peak and Arsenal's performances were accordingly better, there'd be less talk about Arsene.

Fergie's won so much that he's basically made out of teflon. And you know, he's still managing a team that are topping the league, inspite of the players you mentioned and having gone through at least half a dozen centre mids since Keane left and Scholes started getting old.

Probably because this is the Liverpool site mate.
I'm sure if you check the United page,or the Arsenal page, they'll say similar things about their bit part players!

Interesting to see what LFC have spent on agents fees.
Very worrying that the owners for one and management at the club are just soo clueless about such things.
It just goes to show that those concerned are totally and unashamedly inept in all matters relating to 'the economics' of modern footballm
Owners and management are just a damn joke, and out of their depths.
Are there any qualified accountants working for the club.
Tumbleweed Red.

And you are CEO of which multi national conglomerate.?

Which you must be to have such an opinion

You don't need to be an accountant and preferably not be one.

What you need is business acumen you know like the guy who pilots the ballons and races the boats thats him

I totally disagree with Brendan Rogers formula.

If he waits too long for Liverpool to succeed it will lose most of its great fan base. Greta football team like Liverpool need to get positive results at all times.

Liverpool should always be compared with the greatest teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

Buy the greatest of strikers who can actually SCORE GOALS. Don't waste a lot of time back passing. I hate that and psychologically it symbolises a sign of weakness. Yes, backpass only when absolutely required.

Liverpool only requires to practice big time on SCORE, SCORE and SCORE. Strikers must be accurate in front of goal only scoring.

ATTACK IS THE BEST DEFENCE.
SCORING IS THE BEST DEFENCE. Buy SCORERS not just forwards.
Buy HUNGRY SCORERS.

There are many in Europe and South America. Look at Man Utd. They win matches because they always pump in lot of goals. I totally agree with Ferguson. You can only win matches by SCORING GOALS.

Wake up Brendan Rogers!
If you cannot win matches, please give way to managers like Johan Cryuff, Guardiola and Mourinho.

No excuses anymore please. Cheers!

Fans who can be lost in 1 season are no loss to us.

len

'Buy the greatest of strikers who can actually SCORE GOALS.' - The greatest of strikers at the moment are currently out of our reach, both financially and with our predicament in table positioning, hence why we're looking for alternatives who will still bag us goals.

'Liverpool only requires to practice big time on SCORE, SCORE and SCORE.' - Wow, with that fascinating insight they should put you as coach! They've obviously been missing a trick there, we've found it! Make the players practice how to SCORE! They could do that in

'please give way to managers like Johan Cruyff, Guardiola and Mourinho' - Have you been enjoying the decriminalisation of certain plants in America by any chance? Sort your head out for Gods sake.

Some of these posts want me to tear my hair out. We all know how frustrating it is, but posts like this make absolutely no sense. Wake up, we aren't going to get Mourinho in with a plethora of the world's best like Cavani etc hot on his tail to come to Merseyside, we have Rodgers, and whether you like it or not, he should be given time. Implementation of a style doesn't happen overnight, it can take a couple seasons or more. I support Liverpool, not the Premier League table, so he'll have my backing until the time as it either comes to fruition and we can applaud him or it's proven he isn't up to the job, at which point we move him on.

Len he is right, when are liverpool going to start scoring, we are the easiest team to defend against.

muffo

You have to adapt your team to suit the players you have available and not players on some wish list.
We have Suarez and no other class forwards capable of scoring regular.
So what do we have? We have great central defenders an abundance of really good midfield players, great attacking fullbacks. Simple! flood the midfield, stifle every game, be very difficult to score against we have the players at the club to do this.
And play our trump card Suarez as a lone striker with clever midfield play to support him as and when. That's what you do! We don't have the players for 433 or even 442.

Chelsea and Utd should be on the list

Arguably,Barcelona is the prototype of 'tiki taka' in modern football but Barcelona also lose important league matches, sometimes against the less fancied teams. So occasional losses to the likes of Aston Villa is not unexpected. While I,as well as you,am a little bit disappointed,it does not warrant the call for the manager's sack.Recapitulating,as the season goes by,we will win some matches, draw some matces and lose some matches irrespective of the opponents.
Galaxy

Hahah...optimistic.....barca loose ones in a fornight...not been hammerd 3-1 at home...

Barcelona may lose the odd match, but there still top of their league, you however are not and wwill not be for a long while.

Pointless post !

Much love

Barcelona do lose and lost to a newly promoted team at the Nou Camp last year by 2 goals to 0. Tis game was expected to be a dominant Barca win and instead ended a lengthy unbeaten home run. Aston Villa are much better than Hercules the team that beat Barca. I was upset with the Villa result as much as everybody else but rubbish happens.

Up until last saturday, the previous 10 PL games only United and City had played better than Liverpool.

Looking forward to january, im realistic, and dont expect the sanchez's or pato's etc. However think we have a real chance at the likes of ince, sturridge and maybe theo! Still think there is a bit of dead wood at the club that will be shipped out over the next 2 transfer windows, downing, carrol if he returns, cole just doesnt justify the huge wage, and younger players who are not gonna quite make the grade, pacheco being one. I no the january window is difficult but in recent seasons we did our best business, suarez arrived in jan and how good did that turn out! I would love to see 2 forwards and someone with a bit of pysical presance in the middle of the park, someone of the diame mould, driving the team forward, thought he was class against us till he went off injured.
I like that we are looking at young enlish talent but think we will quickly mve on if there is little value to the tranfer, and was in total agreement that dempsey deal fell through.
Think an option would be di santo, not so much a goal scorer but would do well in our system like he is doing at wigan, dont think bent or ba are an option due to massive salaries.
Is callejon being looked at ed?

Matt28

Good post but I dont think there is any way Walcott will come to Liverpool.
1 - He will want Champions league football.
2 - He will want in excess of £100,000 per week.
It is just not going to happen, unfortunately.

Liverpool are paying the price now for the amateur way it was run in the Moores era. He allowed the club to stagnate commercially. This was compounded by the two cowboys he sold the club to.
This was all glossed over by our success on the field. As soon as we experienced a prolonged dip in fortunes we have struggled to keep up with the more proactive clubs eg. Man Utd. Just think of where we could be now if, during our successful years, we had fully exploited our brand and expanded Anfield/moved to a bigger stadium.
We're lucky to have good owners now who understand the commercial side to the game. The increased revenue streams will undoubtedly make us self-sufficient and stronger on the pitch.
However, this will undoubtedly take time. Time some LFC supporters it seems are not willing to give. A question for you then...
What would you rather have? Instant success that lasts a few years or wait a few years and then dominate for the next decade or so?
I know what I'd choose.

Gordy

You are very right about David Moores but he was not alone in our downturn in fortune's! person Parry messed us up also! Giving Moores advice on who Rafa should buy and who to sell the club to!

I would like instant success: Premiership, Champions League and the World Club Champions - THEN have a poor few seasons winning the Johnsons Paint Trophy for couple of years - at least its a trip to Wembley!

Great point about david moores, i want someone to publish a book or make a documentary or something about him and highlight and expose just how much of a clueless chairman he really was, he absolutely ruined(or at-least hindered) our great football club.

it should of been us in the early 90's, (off the back of a successful 3 decades) expanding, improving our stadium, making lucrative sponsorship deals and television rights when the premiership was just after gettin set up, and it should of been us basically improving our global brand,, not f***ing man united!! david moore's what where you doing?

oh, and then he sold us to those texans,,, unforgivable.

how can fans possibly be mad at an individual manager when we had a man like him in charge of us

kelly red

Money has always been spent regardless of revenue.bad buys is the reason we have not won the pl,if leagues were won on money spent we would of won our fair share.br given time will bring success, not spending 100s of millions but with style of play.

forever red Jack.

I agree with you regarding that bone idol so and so Moores but I wouldn't go as far as to say we have a good bunch in FSG steering the ship Gordy.

Ozone

Dominate? what evidence have you to foresee this? utd, chelsea, city just going to dissapear? deluded!

let kelly partner skerytl in defence and push dagger into midfield along side Lucas..before anyone starts whinnging or saying hes our best defender, its possible that he good do a better job from here, defending and going foward!
jayZ

It'k kinda a good point dagger in a defensive mid role, he would dominate there. We have a few decent center backs but i think kelly is still out for another couple of months.
or have Coates in center back and push kelly or flanno on the right, push glen in right mid, dagger in defensive mid with lucas. It could strengthen our midfield up a bit and allow glen to get forward more and help out in attack.

How about another with 3 in center back allowing rb and lb to push forward more and still have good cover, lucas in dm, attack mid, and 2 up front. leaves us very narrow but another defensive option with a good counter attack.

FowlerGod.

Agger is far too one footed a player to play in centre mid:( Would get out on his right side consistently.

Ed's, Firstly great site, I check it out most weeks especially on the run up to transfer windows.

I am approaching this window with some caution after feeling totally deflated last time around. I would love to get excited about this "striker" who is going to be the saviour of our season and between him and Suarez net 20 goals a piece between Jan and May! But I am looking for a hint of realism amongst the fans;

Who is out there that....
a. will see Liverpool as an appealing club to sign up to for 5 years (or so) given current performance. Liverpool will always be seen as a Big Club and a "potentially...one day" successful club once again, but would you go at the peak of your career if other clubs were knocking such as Arsenal?

b. can be bought for a fee that is agreeable with the owners who have shown they will not pay a penny over what they feel a player is worth as an investment into the club. We also can not match the wages that several clubs in the league will pay.

c. has the ability to score 20 plus a season and enable Suarez to score his full potential of goals.

d. Can adapt to the league quickly, ok Brendan has a long term plan but will the fans be happy bringing in a player that will take 6-12 months to fully adjust?

I am 80% sure we will bring back Tom Ince for approx £3-4 mil and Sturridge has (to my knowledge) 2 options. Stay at Chelsea or listen to Liverpool's offer. So thats in my eyes 50/50 right now. Other clubs could come in for him too, its just that Liverpool have come out and declared interest in the player.

Walcott - People keep saying his name, but I cant see it coming off personally. We have been linked with him going back to his Southampton days and I think if we moved Downing and Cole on I would see a place for Walcott to come in, get match time and develop.

Lets look further a field though, Huntelaar has been whispered for a while now and his stats are pleasing to read but can he adapt, will he be another Borini? (In fairness Borini needs time and hasnt been played in position much when he has started.)

So lets not get carried away with the "quick fix signing". This probably isnt our season to shine, Id like very much to be proved wrong!

Brendan says he will be backed by the owners, he hasnt realy had a chance to show us how good a judge of talent he is yet( we have only seen Allen regularly) King Kenny, it hurts me to say, showed a lack of talent spotting buying young british players who have not achieved their price tag.... not even close.

Good post and totally agree. However, I suspect we'll be looking at a loan of Sturridge until summer and then purchase. I like him because he is athletic and knows where the net is. His goals/mins is a better reflection than total goals as his playing time has been limited. I think he and Suarez could do well.

Coop

"but would you join in the peak of your career if other clubs were knocking such as arsenal"

Im sorry mate but theres no way you'll be able to tell me Arsenal is a much more attractive option

For a start look how much we've wom since the last won anything

Theyre known as being the biggest selling club, a manager whos in the twilight of his career, a stingy board and fans who boo you after a couple defeats

Only thing they have going for them ks CL THIS season, but is next seasons really looking as likely as previous seasons?

But other than that I get what you're saying but maybe city/man u/chelsea wouldve been better examples

Cheers

Hey all, just want to make a few points, being irish i'm probably a bit biased but i really think liverpool missed a trick in not signing James McCarthy from Wigan, this lad is going to be world class and when you see what we spent on Joe Allen i really think we missed the boat here as this lad is going to be awesome, and also this talk regarding sturridge i think its madness spending £15+million on this lad, what has he done to deserve this price tag, id go for Shane Long (biased again) watching this lad last Sunday busting a gut, out jumping center halves time and again (were you watching AC) and giving his all this season playing the lone striker role again and again, thats the type of player we need to complement Luis Suarez, ok i know he is not as prolific as some might like but the guy is young, eager and a team player unlikle some of the greedy, selfish big ego's we are being linked with! just my 2pence worth, also i know things are gloomy at the minute but patience lads and ladies, we'll be back and BR is the man to get us the....YNWA

Thank God BR doesnt think like you otherwise our next record signing might be Johnny Evans

Jolly Red {Ed002's Note - It will make no difference to what will happen with Cavani in the summer. The big deal is over the situation with Paolo Cannavaro, and, in a similar way to what happened at Genoa, his failure to act on knowledge he had at the time. This could become a can of worms for Italian football.}

Rodgers first targets for Jan are:

ST/RW- Sturridge - (£12)
RW/LW - Ince - (£4m)
LWB/LW - Bastos - (£6m)

These players add pace, goals and much needed attacking quality to key areas of our squad that need adding to.

Sturridge is looking for a club to provide him with a stable consistent run and Rodgers is willing to provide that to him should he knuckle down and prove himself. He will interchange during games from up front to out wide with Luis Suarez. Sturridge given the right conditions will become a consistent 1 in 2 striker. Owen Coyle knows this and so does Rodgers.

Ince is a clever player that is already consistently scoring and creating from out wide at a young age. He is so far only doing this in the championship but his play is said to already be Premier League standard hence why Rodgers is keen to get him in as he will add a direct attacking threat from either wing and at this moment in time he offers a greater threat than Raheem Sterling.

Michel Bastos is targeted to replace Downing and to compete with Enrique. He adds a more direct attacking threat, a mean left foot that can score from distance, including free kicks and also adds great experience to a young squad.

Cheers JK

Hi eds, there are so many mixed reports on ince I know he left for free a year and a half ago but there are so many reports now sayin about a 35 per cent sell on is it possible to have such an agreement in place? Did ince not leave on bad terms with him looking for first first team wages when only a youth player? Dubred

There is no clause that we get a 35% if blackpool sell Ince. He left on a free and we got a tiny bit of compensation would be silly for blackpool to then say and we will give you a 35% sell on fee not good business at all for them if they did

Are we really in for Walcott? Surely he wants Champions league football and a weekly wage probably exceeding £100k.

18 Dec 2012 11:50:14
LFC is not the force it once was. It is hard to swallow but the truth is players of a high calibrate are not attracted to our great club. We do not have the finacial packages to offer the big wages that comes with star players and do not have a scouting team that can scout proffesionally. All this adds to transfer dealing that look (from the outside), 10th choice targets, unavailable so over priced and 1 season wonders who are expected to carry on that 1 hit for the rest of their careers at LFC. Stewart Downing has never been valued at 20M and who ever set that value to LFC new we were in panic mode. AC could of been bought for 5M, 10 months before we bought him and still would have been over priced. You could have bought 3 Jordan Hendersons for 16M. 2 Allens for 15M and 2 Boroni's. We are top 'A' mugs when it comes to buying and selling players (except a few).

When you buy average players for top dollar then it will be hard to break the mole, as all other clubs dealing with LFC will realise they can mug LFC off. The money wasted, and thats what it was, as BR is trying to get rid of a few stated above (for their true market value) as we speak, will be re-invested in over priced average players (on less wages) as we do not have the pull to attract quality players.

BR is a good manager but to be challaging year in year out, then you need a squad of good consistant players and some WC players that can change games, we just don't have it. Good luck to BR trying to turn a sleeping giant back into a competitive club.

Is that right I do believe that man city pays the highest in the prem followed by united and Chelsea after that is Liverpool then arsenal and spurs would I be right. That puts us in forth spot.

KUMBER

What's the Mole got to do with this? Leave him alone!

BR has had a limited budget and rightly so, he is new to the club and needs tiime to assess the squad before throwing millions away.
Youth is always going to cost more, especially British (Allen). BR needs 3 years and I think he will tur this club around. I think we will be close the Champions League this year, and shoould be qualifying next year, and that is up against the strongest premier League ever.

Man U , Chelsea and Man City spend wisely though..

There has been a lot of talk about the possible signings of Sturridge and/or Walcott and I think a majority seem to think that this would not be aiming high enough.i.e. these players are not 'good enough'.

But we need to look at where we are - look at where we have been for the last few seasons and realise we are not going to jump to the top of the table in one go.
Even with the cash of middle eastern potentates and Russian 'oligarchs' that took time....and WE have not got that type of money anyway.

So maybe either,or both, of the two players mentioned could do a job for us and help us in taking a step along the way to our final goal. Top of the table will be at least a three or four season journey. We need to improve at each stage along the way.
Walcott/Sturridge could be seen as part of that improvement. I must confess that I too have previously been less than happy at the prospect of such signings but - think about it logically. You know
that what I have said here is correct so I will take no opposing views. Thank you

Puzzled

In other words you'll sit on the fence after all that.

Liberias31

Puzzled, agreed we are not where we used to be and wont be attracting the top players, its plain stupid to think we can get Cavani or Messi . But its more reasons to be far more intelligent in the transfer market , we should n't buy for the sake of it and Sturridge wont come cheap.
Swansea bought 3 very useful players with the money we gave them for Joe, Michu scored 13 goals so far , they paid 2m for him ..

Roy

Liberias31 - I cannot see how you can read my post and suggest I am sitting on the fence?

Roy - yes agree with first part - at this moment we just get the players we can to take us further along the road - the fact that Michu is performing immediately is good news for them - some signings click immediately and some take a little longer ( and some - without mentioning Carroll would never be good enough to get any team to the top of the premiership)

It seems like we are going backwards Rodger already spend 28 mil and we look worst then last year, now he saying is no kwick fix what does he mean, look at Norwich, westbrom,Everton, Swansea, they all havend spend no way near what BR have spend! I don't think he have a clu

Well, let's look at your examples:

Everton are a team who have had a long stable period under one manager - they do very well indeed bearing in mind the resources they have - but does anyone think that they will be higher than Liverpool other than in the occasional season?
West Brom have been doing well under a new manager - well done Steve - but they will not be regarded as a better team than Liverpool in the
forseeable future.
Swansea- a team continuing to play in the Rodgers way AND with the fillip of having a big name player to come in as manager - he has not had to alter much has he? They are continuing to solidify their premier league status but better than Liverpool in anything other than the very short term? come on..
Norwich - new man - Chris Hughton is doing an excellent job but again - their target is to try to become established in the premier league.
I do not mean to be disrespectful to any of these teams but they are punching above their weight at the moment and it will not last - you have given poor examples to try to have a go at our manager...Go away

Puzzled

Kenny Dalglish spent nearly 4 times that... Are we almost 4 times as bad as we were last season? I think not...

You
Should also look at some of the outgoings, maxi, Bellamy, kuyt, Adam, spearing. Rate them or not we have lost them from our squad and not managed to replace half of them. At least Kenny had 4 strikers...

Why can't we get decent players with decent wages like other clubs do. Since we are now a midtable like the rest of them but instead our dumb coaches keep wasting money on this overhyped and overpriced english players

Now rodgers has come in brought in borini and allen for 26m,now he wants sturridge and ince for 18m.that's 44m spent on those for players.I don't see westbrom, norwich swansea everton fulham buying these players. Kenny got sacked for this and rodgers needs to get sacked for the same reason if those players don't lead our top4 push
You can continue with the transition crap, but if he spends that kind of money without us getting closer to top4..then FSG should sack him come may

Cant believe we paid £26m for Borini and Allen. Again lots of money wasted on very average players.

Oh we'll cheer up and stop whinging

Here is my take on Ince and Sturridge.

Regarding Ince too many people are looking backwards, if he comes and does the business of scoring and assisting the goals we need so badly then what is the problem? The biggest issue I see with fans on this forum is so many look backwards, sometimes it is best to draw a line in the sand and move forwards.

So here are Ince's percentage record for Blackpool this season; scored in 65 percent of matches, assisted in 45 percent of matches. For those that like to work it out differently Games 20 Goals 13 Assists 9 Shots 48.

As a marker Suarez career percentage record is, scored in 45 percent of matches assisted in 22 percent of matches.

Sturridge is far more complex as nearly 50 percent of his stats are as a sub. But career scored in 28 percent of matches assisted in 11 percent of matches (please remember these stats are watered down by being a sub in 50 odd percent of them) for Bolton he scored in 55 percent of matches.

For me Sturridge is massively under rated, I think he could be as popular as Suarez at Anfield if he is given more than a fair chance. Technically I think he is a very good player, pacey and knows where the goal is. He will cut in from the right wing as he is left footed but is not shabby with his right. For me personally I would prefer him to Walcott as mentally and technically I think he is superior to Walcott. I do not know how so many on here know his attitude like he lives in their street.

I think a forward three of Ince -- Suarez -- Sturridge could be extremely exciting given how many goal scoring opportunities we are already creating (just not finishing). It would stop teams pressing us so much in our defensive third because that killer Stevie G ball would be on to either of the two lightning wide forwards. Walcott could also assist in this if bought but I feel he is like Heskey, good player low confidence, self belief in football for me is a must. Back up three when fit/ready would be Assaidi -- Borini -- Sterling, easy rotation.

It also gives more options with a 352 or 532 depending on how you view the wing backs. We have good depth in midfield and defensively I think we are ok so these two signing in January I personally would be very happy with.

I just hope the LFC fans who constantly show undeserved disrespect to our players, owners and staff stop! Give them a chance and by chance I mean a fair one to prove themselves. This we hate you, your not good enough does nothing but make the situation worse and will, in time, stop players, coaches, owners wanting to have anything to do with our great club.

Knowledgeable passionate fans who are loyal is what we should be known for, not spit the dummy, unrealistic, hateful, clueless ones.

I do not expect all to agree but please don't start with I am 106 years old, I have been going to matches since before the war, Brenda, Man Utd, Rafa, KK. Adult discussion looking forward with some objectivity would be nice.

Thanks for reading.

K79

Bit fed up with this.Lets stop blaming the fans for god sake .. ist a crime these days to want your club to win, all what most of us want is to for the team to play with passion and give it 110%. I dont expect them to punch above their weight, I dont want top 4 I know we are not ready for it yet, but for the amount of money spent (just this transfer window) and the existing players (90% are full internationals) I would expect us to be in the top 8 at worse ..
Don't you lot understand the consequences of being out of European places? we will have to loose even more players and trim the squad even more, warriors and others will stop paying big sponsorship money and we will follow the Villa trend in the bottom half of the table ...

Ince; you can't compare him to Suarez, your are 100% entitled to your opinion, but dont you think comparing goals scored in the championship to the premier league is a bit naive? I do think he is a decent player, but I would guess there was a good reason why he was released from the club just 2 years ago.
As for Strurridge, again "I think" he is decent player at best, but regardless as you mentioned he a bit like Suarez (and Borini), comes in from the left or right in , he is mostly out side of the box, dont you think the player that we really missing is in the box predator who jumps in on the loose balls and scores the tap ins .. not many people appreciated Kuyt and Maxi, but these players had the intelligence to linger by the 6 yards and scored few useful goals just being at the right place , right time.
I am a 207 years old and been to millions of games .. I probably dont know what I am talking about, but I certainly know that Liverpool is under achieving , and as a fan who dont mind spending thousands a year on tickets , travelling and over night stay, I would expect the players who are paid millions by the club to show the same devotion I have for my LFC.

Roy

Ince yes but sturridge no.

That's all we ever do roy is compare? Comparing suarez record in holland and here wouldn't be right. Leagues are so different. End of the day we wont know if it was a good buy unitl they get here and get the shirt on and see what they made of.

JD

To be fair Roy I did not compare Ince to Suarez but used Suarez stats as a kind of marker, we all know how good he is.

The reason I used Ince's stats are because from the position he is playing the yield is very good, add that to his age and it looks very exciting. I am fully aware Blackpool are not in the EPL, sorry if I did not make that clear.

Nor, I believe, do I compare Sturridge playing style to Suarez or Borini per se, you sir did that.

Your point about Maxi and Kuyt is correct, but I think instead of crosses from the left missing everyone and running to the touchline you may well find Sturridge coming in back post to finish.

K79

K79, Suarez, Borini and Sturridge are all players that like to collect the ball out side and dart in, or shoot, the point I was making, they are n't an in the box player .. the type of player that we should be looking for, purely because we have n't got one. A Hernández (of united) type player, he does n't score spectacular goals, but scores few just lingering and causing confusion within the 6 yards.. he earned united many points just doing this.
Its not about crosses mate, its about the loose ball , how many time Suarez taken a shot, the keeper or defender fumbled and there was no one there to take advantage.
Anyway lets hope we can get a good run and push up,and n January we can get someone who can either score or make the space for others to score .. but we need goals.
Roy

Hi, eds is it true (as sprinted in the mail), that KK and comolli were asked if thy wanted to go for gotze, they said henderson was the priority??? Can u shed some light on this? As for transfers this jan and summer it doesn't matter of how big the names r tht r being thrown around its if the good enough 2do a job, sturridge not worth 15m + high wages, nice isn't good enough he was liverpool for years and if thought was good enough he would of been given a chance, we could of kept him but we never had the faith 2keep him! If nice comes in its coz the gonna cash in on sterling! Walcott id make priority can we approach yet? We need 2make him an offer he can't refuse! Personally id love 2 see liverpool make bids for players like kjaer cb/cdm diame cm, ben arfa cm/cam/rw, stekelenburg gk or adler gk, danny rose lb, keep kelly at all costs. Pato cf/st, c eriksen cm/cam (replacement for Steve g aka legend)! Outs downing, cole, henderson, reina, enrique who personally thinks still has a future with us! Would love 2 no ur thoughts on this, great work guys keep it up {Ed002's Note - I explained before that Goetze may well have been on a list of players being considered but don't get the idea that Liverpool missed out on him. Like it or not, there is interest in Sturridge. As for Walcott, Liverpool cannot speak to him without the permission of Arsenmal - make an acceptable offer to them and then try with an offer "he can't refuse".}

Does the eds or reds know what happens to the bashers when we start winning league titles again(and IMO it is a matter of WHEN)?

Do they turn into I told you all alonger's, or maybe they find something new to bash like the colour of the anfield playing surface just isn't as green as the one at old Trafford.

Like to know your thoughts.

They just pretend they have supported the club all along. That's why they don't leave a name - in case they get found out

No, it just means we can go home with a smile in high spirit after paying our money at the turnstile.

Fully agree with the first post, they are like spoilt brats throwing a tantrum. How could they justify themselves as SUPPORTERS if BR wins the league one day? They would moan and say we were lucky, now we need to get a 'world class' manager.

The rest of us will be able to fully enjoy the moment knowing that we actually supported the efforts of the management and the team.

Downing is going to Middlesborough on loan until the end of the season.

We have pretty much wrapped up Ince and Sturridge.

Walcott is very much wanted by the manager but told it is unlikely now. (must be signing a new deal)

BR will look to bring in another attacking player.

The money is there - If he dosn't use it, well that's his choice

DB9

I know it's Christmas but I still don't think Ince and Sturridge should be "wrapped up" :) We already know what they are before we open them? Where's the surprise in that? I don't believe in father christmas anyway...

Rodgers statement that we should not expect any top players in January is concerning to me. It may be smokescreen, but I am concerned that owners are not willing to pay over-the- odds on transfers. Since Rodgers considers Allen and Borini 'top players' you have to wonder what level of player is being sought in January. My suspicion is that Ince will be our only signing and perhaps someone on loan.

Coop {Ed002's Note - You are concerned that the "owners are not willing to pay over-the-odds"?}

18 Dec 2012 11:22:00
I thought that as I read it too ed! Mate you're a donut. I'm sure if we paid over the odds like you wanted, you'd then slate the club for spending too much. Like every single player we've bought since suarez!
Benny baller

An extra 5m or so..will not matter if we get 50m from qualifying for the champions league..pathetic and negative way of looking at the situation..basically you have no hope in the owners or liverpool..?

I think, perhaps, my comment was not worded as I meant it. I have been commenting in here for years and never blame/point fingers. I am merely pointing out that players in January cost more than in summer (typically) which is what I meant by over the odds. The owners did this with several players and I think they will be reluctant to do so again. I honestly think Ince and a loaner will be our January business. It is concerning since we all seem to expect Sturridge or Huntelaar, when either will be pricey and therefore unlikely.

It would be nice to voice an opinion on this site occasionally without having the typical mindless, angry responses from "the real fans". Since when is being realistic make you not a fan?

Coop

Oh, and also, we will sign everyone and win PL this year. We rule!

Bought Suarez for 23 million. That was in january. Would you say that was over the odds? I believe theres always a deal to be had.

Question för Eds.with what appears tom Ince Nailed ön to sign in january wot position whld he fill and would he slöt onto 1.st team straight away ynwa {Ed002's Note - He will become a squad player and be used as and when the manager decides to use him - probably as a wide player in a front three.}

I see ince & Sterling being used on and off to give them both a bit of chance to develop with out too much pressure on them.

Eds what's the deal with assaidi, does Rodgers not rate him as he continuously overlooks him in the league. Id like to see sterling given a rest and assaidi given a run of games. Everytime I have seen him play he looks great and works hard for the team. Red Rom {Ed002's Note - There is no "deal" with Assaidi that I am aware of. He is a squad player that I assume the manager will use when he sees fit.}

Brendan Rodgers: 'Fans shouldn't expect big names'
By Darren Plant, Reporter
Manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that it is unlikely that Liverpool will sign a "top player" during the January transfer window.

Arsenal's Theo Walcott and Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge have both been linked with a move to Anfield but while Rodgers has admitted that he will add to his squad next month, he does not believe that Walcott or Sturridge will be arriving on Merseyside.

Rodgers told reporters: "I see lots of names bandied about that are pie in the sky because there won't be too many top players moving in January as clubs want top money.

"There is no doubt that we want to bring in goals and we want to bring in players who can assist in scoring goals.

"It is all about progress, and I believe we are making that, but you cannot solve all your problems in one leap."

In no way did Rodgers say these players aren't a target - he didn't mention a single name. All he said was there won't be too many top players moving, but he's hardly going to come out and say 'we're after the best of the best and these are...' It is simply, yet again, journalists trying to twist a statement so they can squeeze the last little bit of life out of the rumour mill before the window opens.

I'm glad Liverpool are playing their cards close to their chests - I doubt they want a repeat of Tottenham running in and scuppering negotiations (even if we did dodge a bullet with Sigurdsson)

He regards borini AMA Allen as top players so god only knows what's coming.

Allen is a top player you buffoon, Borini MAY be, it's too hard to tell on his very limited appearances. Clowns like you are utterly destroying this great site
Flagg

To the last post..
Allen started almost 22+ games this season...and he has beeen wasteful in almost 90%....
boroni started 11 games and was subbed in 6-7 games and was in the bench for 1-2 games...clearly lacks the the word useful you are mentioning...

poepl says we need to rest allen..
ed one ques to you...dont you tnink he would have played the same amount of games if in swansea...?
then what is this rest coming into pic?
is that an excuse that he isnt playing well?

He means Jan Vannegor of Hesselink.

Liver bird,

1. Once again you've answered your self they are also beating teams that are doing poor? Your sayings were close to 4th because teams are doing poor but teams are doing well even against man united how many times have they been saved by there front line? Which we don't have at the moment?

2. Once again your using a game where we ran out of ideas. We've played this style for 6 months it's going to be hard at times and we will start being all over the place on bad days like this but most of the time we don't do that? So your using one example. And it depends how we use the possession which he will change. Not yet but If you give him time he will.

3. Can you just not admit that Liverpool are one of the unluckiest teams? People on this website hate using luck but you have got to be really stupid if you can't see it.. How many over teams have had basically no penalties? Or what about are goal against Everton? Maybe it wernt luck maybe the officials are against us. But they are out of br control.

Mistakes in January ? We haven't even got there yet? Once again your judging players before they even signed! We don't even know who's he's going to sign?!

In the 4-3-3 that Rodgers plays the players mix up which could mean he's behind for example suarez. Your judging him on Tottenham he could of been completely different with us. For example sig? He was banging in goals last season now look? So what's changed?

Your last comment is a joke. So your comparing Allen to them players. 1. Is he a striker? No 2. Has he been playing out of his role for basically most of the season? Yes 3. Is he probably warn out mentally? Yes.don't really need to carry on with him

Assadi how much game time has he had? Is he a striker? No how much did he cost against van Persie?

Shall we mention borini? The player that people are slating yet how many games as he had?! How old is he compared to van Persie? Buying players is always a gamble sometimes you realise it don't work sometimes it does. Your points are clueless

By the way van Persie is a champions league player that has ridiculous wages who would only play for the top 2 in premier league which we wernt.. Is that br fault as well?

Red twist

We dont have a front line because Brendan Rodgers let go of Carroll, Maxi and Bellamy and was aiming for a midfielder to replace them...He could have bought Sturridge in the summer but decided against it...

We have run out of ideas often in the final third...The front three have no clue what to do there....Brendan Rodgers was brought in because Kenny kept repeating that we were UNLUCKY....He was brought in to rectify this but I cant see any improvement...

You might not have noticed but Brendan Rodgers is a midfield manager

What I mean here is that he has a very concrete idea of how his midfielders and fullbacks (in that zone) should operate...

But his coaching in defense and the final third is just not up to the mark...

You take the case of Siggurdson scoring so many goals....He was a LOAN player brought in January and Rodgers changed his system from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 in the second half of the season....That brought them the goals and hence they finished higher up in the table...

I agree that Allen is a midfielder but still Rodgers bigs him up as a box to box midfielder...Lets leave aside the goals, but still he has ZERO ASSISTS while ATTACKING and has ZERO BLOCKS while DEFENDING....

When you say something it should be based on facts, information, observation or conclusions....I see that you use lots of emotions in your posts...

For example, I referred both Van Persie and Benteke with concrete STATS but you conveniently ignored Benteke while putting up Van Persie's transfer fees..

Yes we couldnt have gone for Van Persie but what stopped us from going for someone like Benteke?

Buying players for fees like 10-15 million is easy...Thats where Brendan Rodgers falls short of expectations...He needs to find his Michu...

Think your on the wrong page. this is a Liverpool SUPPORTERS site

Don't get hung up fella, Even Chelsea in 3rd place are 13 points behind the leaders and only 15 ahead of the relegation zone.

Arsenal in 5th are closer to the relegation zone than the top aswell.

It's all up for grabs.

I doubt the OP will be leaving an empty seat...in fact i doubt they have ever filled a seat at Anfield. Not enough room for their big clown shoes

Ed do you have any idea if there are problems with Assaidi.

I cannot for the life of me conjure up anything as to why he doesn't come off the bench. Is Rodgers not playing him for having bad English? Does he not try hard enough in training? Has he got an injury? OR is he playing Downing and Cole for a shop window?

Any insight would be appreciated? I searched but nothing was said :/

The former footballer Charlie Adam has died suddenly. He was 50 years old.

Tayside Police said they were called to Grampian Gardens in Dundee at about 18:30 on Monday following the death.

There were no suspicious circumstances but a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

As a midfielder, Mr Adam played with clubs including Dundee United and Partick Thistle. His son Charlie is a Scotland international and plays for Stoke City.

All i see is BR wants to sign this player and that, well to be honest, very poor in my opinion.

Sturridge = NO
Ince = No
Alex Pearce = NO WAY
Pilkington = NO

Assaidi = JOKE.... another antonio nunez
J Cole = Bye
Henderson = Bye

Downing & Carroll, been criticised and down graded by a manager who has no plan B.

3 positives from this season:

1. Suarez scoring goals ( so we wont get relegated and we will fetch at least 30 mil when he leaves)

2. Sterling

3. Shelvey

If we want to be an average mid table team then fine go ahead but this is not ambition!!

Karlos

Assaidi is a joke because he hasn't had a chance? Henderson to leave, he has been great recently. Carroll was terrible under Dalglish and obviously he is amazing now he left as he is scoring loads of goals for West Ham. So Rodgers ruined Downing. News to me considering under Dalglish he managed 0 assists and 0 goals in the league. At least at left back he has an impact; allowing Enrique to re find his form.

Ben

Rodgers is our worst manager in the last 30 years.

Would love to here whats wrong with henderson myself think hes a better player than allen a better passer than shelvey and at the min a better box to box player than gerarrd but thats just my thought on the lad

Are you available to play Karlos? Thanks to you our small squad is even smaller (just like your feet! Joke Eds).

Did people actually expect us too finish top four or even in second place? Ridiculous! This is a rebuilding season we have a new manager a new and young manager mind you we have a thin squad we got some great potential in the youth squad lets be honest here we weren't gonna get 4th and no one should be expecting too much of this season next season if Rodgers is not able to improve then we should be worried but till then i'm not gonna get too worried.

Fourth is still achievable if we just start putting goals away. Not the only gauge of success this year but still within our reach

cozinoz

Agree but it begs the question why rodgers keeps talking about 2nd,4th 8th etc whats he on about make a target and stick to it

For the last 3 season's we've been re-building!

One thing on my mind is why isn't Oussama Assaidi playing in the premiership games. Injury ? or is Rodgers not convinced of his potential........He's looked promising in few of the games he's played in.He could be a season changer if he's given a chance on the wing instead of Shelvey or Downing.

Hey fellow Reds,

I came on here just after the West Ham game to express my thoughts on why we won that game after Diame got injured. Now i have only seen highlights of the Villa game (and by all accounts we were once again unlucky) so I cant really comment. But the end result is what matters. You dont get prizes or points JUST for playing well. There have been teams that dont play well and win. We are playing well but too often we get hard done by or waste chances. We are almost halfway through the season and although we are slightly inconsistent, i still believe in Rodgers. Maybe no champions league place this yr but my god the PL better be ready for us next season. He's made some decent signings. I like Allen. I hope Sahin comes good coz he's amazing when on song. Borini didnt cost much so he could be a gem if he comes good but small transfer fee means less pressure to succeed (mainly from media). Rodgers is a great guy. I think we are lucky to have him as our manager coz he's just a classy guy and great teacher of pure football. We'll be a force under his guidance. However, this season is the most important and January is very important. I said it before and ill say it again. I think our midfield needs 'spicing' up a bit. We need a key to unlock the stubborn defences. Our midfield atm is quite bland. Yh we pass well and all that but we dont have an 'eriksen' type of player to support suarez from deep. Gerrard is not up to it anymore. He's a legend of the club but when its time its time. I hope in January we buy well because the tightness of the league suggests that champions league is not out of reach. A striker and a mid. Ince = yes. Sturridge = no. But thats my opinion. Be glad to hear everyone elses :)

Some asked if some1 was to take over from BR who should it be? I still believe that RAFA still has unfinished business at LFC. With the monies that have been spent since his departure, he would have built an unstoppable squad of players. The most important thing is he really LOVES LFC!! {Ed002's Note - So it is Rafa, Torres, Mascherano, Ince and Alonso people want back. It'll be Hicks & Gillett next.}

He must love LFC so much joining a massive rival. He must be such a great manager as well. Winning the Club World Championship for Chelsea and doing such a great job for Inter.

In fact I agree his signings at Liverpool were inspired. Torres, Alonso and Mascherano aside they were world class. 20m for Aquilani was an inspired bit of business, Babel was another world class signing. don't get me started on Ngog as he is lighting the world on fire. He never paid over the odds either as shown by the bargain for Aquilani.

He did so well to win in Istanbul; a team he created himself and without him and his tremendous leadership shown at half time; the best decision he ever made was to allow Stevie to take the team talk. He truely is the greatest manager ever, I miss the football we played under him so much, Gerrard and Alonso hitting 80 yard hoofs for a Torres to bang in. I hate the creative and expansive football we currently play.

IMO the OP should STFU.

If the fans are so annoyed about the current state of Liverpool then they should vote with their feet and not attend the games ( Im not agreeing with this )

Then why suggest it!

CB - Isimat Mirin £1.5m (he will be loaned back to valenciennes until the summer and possibly Sama to go there on loan next summer)
LB - Didac Vila loan with view to buy for £3m
LW - Tom Ince £4m
ST - Alexis Sanchez £22m (27m euros) plus £5m in additional add ons (£25m or 30 euros guaranteed)

Downing and Cole will leave for £10m

bringing the net spending down to £18m (which will be compensated through the sale of Carroll in the summer)

Why are Barcelona taking a loss on Sanchez, just out of interest?

Great Imagination

Wish it were ture but . . .

Who in their right mind would want Cole, even on a free and if you think you will sell Carrol for 18m your are extremely deluded. Im afraid West Hams interest has cooled drastically.

Nope you are well and truly stuck with these overvalued overpaid clowns

Since signing for Barca he has flopped, his performances and style of play are completely unsuited and Pedro and Villa are better for their playstyle.

Ben

Hi Melanie - glad to see you back! That's a clever idea from you - Barcelona sell Sanchez ,put the money in the bank and then they will get some interest!

It is certainly a safer bet than Liverpool attaining his services mate. I'm glad you worked out how to reply to posts, if you also struggle with the search function, feel free to ask Ed002 for a helping hand.

Hi Melanie. Will you please explain your current stupid comment?

Melbourne loves this page. He gets to see who Chelsea are overspending on next. How about Downing? A snip at 40m, Roman

Liverpool as a team don't have the luxury to buy players and give them time..our team is really average and we already have enough of players on our team for the same reason.

We are already giving borini and allen time, whoever rodgers brings in january must hit the ground running if they don't expect another poor season.and if the rumours are true about sturridge and ince. Then this season is a wrap

Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard and Suarez.

That's the experienced spine of our team and there's nothing average about it. Top 4 clubs would be interested in most of those players if they were available. All BR has done is identify the other senior pros who aren't playing regularly and who get paid huge salaries and try to get rid to get young and hungry players in to add to the terrific spine we have. You'd think we have no player of any ability the way some persons on here bang on. Most clubs would kill for a roll call of youngsters who have been blooded like this - Allen, Henderson, Shelvey, Sterling, Suso, Kelly & Wisdom. All full internationals or U21 in terms of the Brits. I have always said I'd be content (not happy) with 8th this season so long as the style of play is bedded in, we blood youngsters and reduce the wage bill to ensure the long-term security of our club. Sometimes you need to regroup before you attack and that's what we're doing. I'm in the half glass-full camp and proud to be so.

Weird - this critic hasn't left a name!

Hi, I read a lot of facts and fantasies on here everyday but to be completely honest, Im not that bothered who rodgers brings in (striker wise) as he seems to find talent in players that most people only have in their dream teams just to fill the spaces. At least any extra striker either good or bad will surely change results for us and with how bad we perform lately, is embarrassing. So any striker could probably help us! I just hope we actually sign someone at the earliest and not fancy about and miss our opportunity. Fingers crossed for the fulham game, and so on.

Jimmy the red!

Bad form recently? Aside from losing to Villa we tore apart teams, showed heart against West Ham and steel against a then inform Chelsea. 2 losses in 12 games isn't bad form.
