Hey ed001 haven't heard your opinion on sigurdsson. Do you see him as a good addition?

Vik {Ed001's Note - he is better than what we already have, so yes, a good addition. He is not top class, yet, but he has the potential to improve.}

18 Jun 2012 22:51:03
Is the supposed rumour that Newcastle have bid £8m for Luuk de Jong true or made-up media nonsense?

18 Jun 2012 22:35:13
Surely the Salomon Rondon talk is all rubbish? Or would he be willing to leave his cushty climate and CL football for Liverpool?

There is presently talk of interest from Chelsea, is there not? again though, newspapers lie...

What a signing siggidson will be 8 mil a great bit of buisiness by rogers be worth treble that next sesson.

Hope he signs - looks a player - however have you ever known an Icelandic player worth serious money - and Eidur Gudjohnson was a max 10 million, so at that price we would buying him as a player, not as an investment. {Ed005's Note - His nationality has no bearing on what he would cost in the future. It wouldn't matter if the dearest ever Icelandic player cost a tenner, if Sigurdsson has a great couple of years of course his price will massivly go up. That's not to say we're signing him to make a profit on him.}

Have you ever known a Venezuelan worth serious money? Better not get Rondon then, eh?

Carlos Valderama

He was Good infact for a period of time when he played he was the best in the world.

Valderama was Columbian

why is all the dismay an hate on kalou? hes pacey an good on the ball also he doesnt back out of challenges, whilst downing has pace but dont know what to do with it and backs out of a challenge if the person is bigger our puts one oin before hand? kalou over downing anyday {Ed001's Note - because he can't pass, cross, shoot, control the ball, use his head or do anything a top level footballer should. Not forgetting he is asking for much higher wages than Downing too.}

Bcos he is a complete tube of a footballer if u cud call him a footballer

Sergio Ramos = Val kilmer.

Val Kilmer from 20 years ago maybe. Have you seen him lately?

Blowfish Kilmer nowadays!

I like the way the italians have set up their team tonight - 4-1-2-3. RED LENIN

I fancy Italy to win it they look solid in their shape and quick on the break. Tough to play against.

Ian th red

And i got them at 14/1 before the tournament kicked off!

4-1-2-3 aka 4-3-3....

could even be 4-1-2-2-1... lol

Hi eds, any chance of us getting di natalie, looks sharp still for his age and will certainatly put the ball in the net? Cheers

He is ancient far too old for us

Please

Like the Karagounis post yesterday.
10 years ago, yes by all accounts, one of the best strikers on the planet these days. But would not offer much to our club i'm afraid.

fernando torres only scores big goals when playing in red

Remind us what colour he was wearing vs Barcelona for Chelsea then?

Only scores ANY goals when he's in red!

davethebutcher

Big goals win matches/trophies, excuse me but Chelski were already winning on away goals when Torres scored, therefore in my opinion Torres goal against Barca was not a big goal.

I havent posted for a while, as clearly not much is now happening at lfc.

So id just like to say a couple of points about the euros.

1. Am i the only person who thinks the refereeing has been awful? Dont think you can get a minutes worth of play without a free kick. It actually makes me happy we have the english refs that we do, theyre much better, even if they are our worst enemies at times.

2. I think the whole group/point system is utterly ridiculous. Im listening to the ireland game, the commentator is talking about a mini league and how italy are going through even with less G/D. Greece i understood, because they wont through because of h2h against russia? but now im utterly perplexed. Could eds or a fan please explain it all throughly too me? What does platini/blatter think of it?

Thanks guys.
Benny baller {Ed002's Note - It is the points gained in matches between all three tied teams - not on a head to head basis. Then it goes to goal difference - hence the need to win by a couple of goals.}

Heres me thinking that g/d, followed by goals scored was a good way of sorting it. Silly FA. *sigh*
thanks 02
benny baller

I'm actually relieved and impressed by the refereeing , far better than any World Cup in recent memory .

Qwerty

We will have to agree to disagree qwerty :)

Benny baller

I think with only playing 3 group games, the head to head rule is a good thing. They're all played on neutral turf, it's usually a case of two teams fighting it out to reach the next stage, why shouldn't it be based on which of those two won their particular match.
Obviously in things like a league season, or even the CL group stages, Goal difference is the better option, as it rewards consistency, to a degree at least.
You can't decide a final by how many goals a team scored in the lead-up to that final, or Greece would have to beat Spain by about 6 goals in the final to make up their goal difference, so why should a 3 match group stage be any different?
Knockout Tournament, three neutral group matches, head to head all the way, may the best team win!

Hi ed's, Is Andy Carrol in Rodgers's plans? Personally I don't see him going, however Rodgers's passing style may not suit Carrol's play.

Just because Andy Carroll is good with his head, why do people assume that's all he's good for?
During his best spells for us at the end of last season he looked like an all round centre forward.
Yes, he can play on the centre half's shoulder and attack crosses in the air, but he's equally effective dropping deep and receiving the ball to his feet and linking play / bringing midfielders into play.
Correct me if I'm wrong but that's EXACTLY Brendan Rodgers style of play.

I suppose it's all subjective. We all see different attributes in different players and draw different conclusions.

But I honestly believe, given a little time, confidence and decent service, that Andy Carroll will start scoring goals on a more regular basis.

Joe {Ed028's Note - i couldnt agree more with this to be honest...i love andy carroll and people need to believe in him! }

I agree and also think he always performs well on the big occasions when given a chance. The F.A cup and the world cup game against sweden. That header showed he can do something out of nothing. Alot of potential. I think he is worth keeping and trying to work with. We should be looking to shift aqua and cole and players that don't really wanna play for liverpool rather than a young striker with potential.

Sorry if this has alrady been covered but I could not find anything when I used the search function. I have just seen the apparently leaked pictures of the new 3rd kit on the daily mirror web site. This has got to be some kind of joke kit? This cannot seriously be our new kit can it?
Sorry again if this has been covered.

Been covered, that kit has been floating about for a few months, it's a fake mock up

{Ed022's Note - Just thought I'd let you know that the Player-Profile on Luuk De Jong has now been updated to let everyone know who is most likely for his signature, as well as general comments on the player to give you all more information on the lad. www.player-profiles.co.uk - cheers all.}

Newcastle are after him they have bid 8mill

18 Jun 2012 19:58:31
This is my personal opinion and I think these players will help the team:

Gilfy sigurdson (8 mil)
Rondon (12 mil)
Wanyama (5 mil)
Krasic (7 mil)
Kalou (free)
Maybe a full back that can play left or right

Total spend (32 million)

Any starting players that are sold will be replaced with good solid replacements. E.g if skirtle leaves, I think that a player like lovr

18 Jun 2012 19:49:58
i think and hope rodgers will keep carroll and suarez buy another striker and sometimes play three up front if he stays off the beer he could be good.also do you think suso will get a shot? i have been very dissapointed with our last THREE managers lack of youth involvment in the squad any feedback would be nice you lads seem to know your shizzz

Dalglish involved a lot of the youngsters. What are you talking about?

This "lack" of youngsters is them not being old and physically mature enough. Have some patience, it's a virtue.

I told you so. Will be the words on this site in November.
Rodgers is a small man from a small club.
When November arrives and we have lost a number of our stars.
We are struggling in the league and you are crying in your beer.
I told you so.

Care to add your name, so we can remember who told us so come November?

Don't wait till then, pack your bags and go support a different club, fans like you should be ashamed, don't ever call yourself a red

Unfortunatly this is the attitude of too many Liverpool 'fans' these days.

They are more concerned with the personal gratification of being able to say 'I told you so' than actually giving any new manager or players a fair chance to prove themselves.

I think most of us will be happy as long as we see progress next season.

Yeah mate, I'm sure that we'll sell our players out of window. We have no power to hold them to their contracts... wait a minute!

Carragher confirms Liverpool attempted to sign Mario Gomez, don't know why, lost cause really.

From what I remember, we tried to sign Gomez and Llorente after Torres put in his transfer request. Both were turned down quickly, and we moved for Andy shortly after. May have been a lost cause, but I for one am glad we at least explored the top options.

This was a few seasons ago

Personally id rather he wud confirm his retirement .

18 Jun 2012 19:15:12
not so much a rumour but just wondering why liverpool fans on here are so negative. contantly slating the club saying we are going to be left behind by other clubs. if you want to support a club that spends silly money on players year in year out you shouldnt be a liverpool fan, i think people are forgeting how much we spent last year. right lets image we sign sig, and a winger say tello or a johnson. yes not quite hulk, hazard and them big names but you arnt remembering that our big signings didnt preform last season. so realistically we could be looking at 4 new signings but players we already have developing eg hendo, carrol, i believe sterling is going to be a talent. then our team is going to look clinical. add in tika taka football and we have a great squad going on that can win games. pepe, glen, skrts, agger, enrique, lucas,gerrard,sig,suarez,carrol,tello/johnson. now lets be serious guys that team is quality and then when the young talent we spent millions on like hendo do grow into there potential then we will also have a future unlike these other clubs buying for now and only now. and at the end of the day sir alex didnt go to the mancs and win everything straight away the manager needs time to gather a squad he wants and to how he plays.
please post eds as i know have numb hands after writing all of that ( and what do you think of our chances or is this negitivity justified ?)

Hi ed's, just wanna know; is Kenny getting a role at our club?

{Ed006's Note - I expect him to, yes.}

And that will mean more than any transfer to me long live the king

What do you expect ed, same kind of thing as rush? {Ed001's Note - pretty much, nothing that puts him in an awkward position with the players being confused with who is boss.}

You mean is king Kenny going to give him self a less stressful role at (his club) long live the king YNWA kk. Lfc linc

Ed006 - in what possible capacity? {Ed005's Note - Probably a similar role to before, like club ambassador and working with youth, if he does get a job.}

Kenny would be mad to take a job from the back stabbers in FSG.

In regards to Sigi, I watched him last year and thought he was a good player for Swansea, I never expected him to come to us but I do think he will improve us, can someone tell me why he's not wanted at his club though? Could he not get in the team ? Or just not settle in Germany ?
Cheers

He wants first team football. He can't get it at Hoffenheim.

Cheerio

I dnt think he suited the style of football they played mate so they dropped him to the bench thats what i heard

Hi eds, do you know of any interest in Soloman Rondon, heard a lot of rumours flying about that he could be a LFC player by the end of the week? {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest from Liverpool.}

18 Jun 2012 17:00:28
Some people can't even wait for the start of the season before being negative. Give it a rest will you? Tell you what, why don't we have a season off and come back next year seeing as we've already dropped 12 points in our first 6 games.
The beginning of the season is the best time to play the big teams. Big teams come into their own after february because that's when big squads with lots of quality show their worth. Contrast with Newcastle and Spurs last season. Get them out the way early when the squad is fresh and their new players are acclimatising. Lets have some optimism, we'll murder mugs like sunderland and WBA, and last season we knocked both manchester teams out of the cups. Carroll will batter arsenal's powder-puff defence. 18 points from first 6 games. YNWA.

Well said

Bear in mind we begin the season earlier than most, which may be to our advantage

Hey, I just wanted to check that I was right in thinking Brendan Rodgers was going on holiday soon. With the sigurdsson deal having a deadline of the 30th of June, Henri Bedimo saying he will announce who he is joining next week and some teams returning from euros with players we may have interest in I was wondering whether Rodgers would need to be around for deals to go through or negotiations. Thanks S32.

He's already been and is now back at Melwood

I'm pretty sure it said on LFC website in the article where he talks about sigurdsson then goin on holiday again. S32.

We're not the favourites to finish in top 4 next season and that might just increase our chances of finishing in the top 4. We always seem to disappoint when we're the favourites. It's the other way round when we're the underdogs. I don't know about you guys, but I'm really positive about next season.

We havnt been favourites to finish in the top 4 for about 4 or 5 years

We havnt been favourites to finish in the top 4 for about 4 or 5 years

We were one of those labelled top 4 up to 2 years ago , even the season after Spurs took 4th , media etc still referred to us as top 4 ..
For those with short memory we finished 2nd the season ending in 2009.

If it between us and United for Sigurdsson then i think he will sign for us.

He would'nt even make the bench at United, Where as in our case, He would be the 1st name on the team sheet every week.

Golly, I can't even begin to fathom how to respond to this... Pepe.. Agger.. Lucas... Stevie.. Luis...

-_-

McSnuggles

I doubt that. United's midfield is s**t.
AnfieldUSA

That just shows how bad our targets are, Sigurdsson wouldnt get a game at united, arsenal, spurs, chelsea and city.

Last year it was adam, henderson, downing, carroll and coates. Look how bad that turned out.

This year its sigurdsson, kalou, de jong, caulker etc.

Not good enough. 8th/9th position again this season. {Ed005's Note - You obviously didn't watch Sigurdsson last year then, nor did you watch De Jong. Sigurdsson would be a good signing for all those teams.}

Watch out, watch out there's a Manc about.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Yep i seen a lot of sigurdsson and de jong last season, Wasnt impressed with de jong at all, Gives the ball away far to often. Sigurdsson was ok at swansea. scored a few belters, but never got back and defended, very slow to see a pass and for every goal he scored from outside the box, about 8-9 shots went about 10 feet over the bar. Hense the reason chelsea, city, newcastle, spurs, united and arsenal are not interested in him. And even if there is slight interest, as i said, he wouldnt get into their starting 11. He would get into our team. thats my point. Our signings havnt lived up to expectation. {Ed005's Note - Sigurdsson doesn't defend? Wo! you really are an idiot. I think the reason he doesn't defend has something to do with the fact that he is an attacking midfielder. Perhaps that has something to do with his lack of defensive work? Basically everyone apart from you can see he had a good 6months for Swansea last season and the only reason other clubs won't go in for him is because he looked certain to move to Swansea until BR left and now he wants to move to LFC regardless of interest elsewhere. Who ares if City etc. aren't in for him? How many top players have moved to big clubs in the past without lack of interest from other big clubs. That is a petty arguement. Luuk De Jong is 21 years old and scored 32 goals last season in 50 games and you weren't impressed? }

He's right its going to different players, same outcome, we need better quality!

Nope wasnt impressed with de jong. I know sigurdsson is an attacking midfielder. but even forwards do their thing to help the team out. carroll the other night against sweden was great at getting back and helping out the defence. ive often seen ronaldo, messi, cavani, drogba etc getting back and helping out defensively. Yep your right it is a petty arguement, especially when you just decide to call me an person because i was voicing an opinion. Can people not come on here anymore without been called names by certain eds these days? ive been using this site for nearly 2 years, no need for name calling when its a proper conversation, banter is all well and good.

Well i sort of agree with the unnamed poster. If we are putting our hopes in Sigurdson to be our hero then we are in trouble. He is better than Adam, by the sheer fact that he has mobility, but he is available for £7 million for a reason. Also, it is irrelevant where a player plays on the pitch, even as an attacking midfielder. You defend from the front! We are no where near good enough to give a player a free role.

The Irish Rover

WHAT IS EVERYONE'S OBSESSION WITH PLAYER PRICES?!

He's available for 7 million because that's where Hoffenheim placed his price tag.

That's actually MORE EXPENSIVE than Gareth Bale cost...

McSnuggles

Quite frankly, just looking at De Jong's numbers impresses me.

McSnuggles

Gylfi stood out on a small team that was playing so well they were receiving praise from everyone.
And before he went to Swansea he was voted Fans player of the year for his three previous teams...surely there can't be that many people who are wrong.
And he is only 22 years old so I would back him to improve.

How dare u mention sigurdsson n kalou in the same sentence. Poor gylfi would feel so low if he read ur post.
Indian Buzzer {Ed016's Note - Kalou was never even looked at)

Rodgers is looking at:

Borini
Sturridge
Muniain
Belhanda
Caulker
Ramirez
Alba
Howedes
Sigurdsson
Sahin
Bedimo
Afellay
Rondon

Yes I know that's a big list but he has only just come in, it will get shorter and narrowed down to about four players.

Hopefully we can knock off Borini and Caulker..

To the replier above, I know you really want to sign those two but that's going to far :-)

Ralf rangnick new spurs manager, oh how I will gloat when it happens

Why would you gloat before even giving him a chance? That would make you no better than all the fans of our team and also other teams slating Rodgers before we've kicked a ball, Hodgson, etc...

I've just been on the lfc website having a look around. Clicked on the link, red stars tie the knot, half way down the page on the right, in the blog section, it says aquilani released from reds contract. Don't know when it was posted, or if it's true as the link wouldn't open properly on my computer. Try for yourselves, hope you have more luck than me.

FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong quite fancies the switch to Benfica, it seems. He has previously been linked with Newcastle but it looks like the Portuguese side have stolen a march.

"Benfica are a good club, have good players, play good football and that could be a good step in my career," De Jong told Portuguese station Antena 1. "I can learn a lot there. We'll see what happens."

I'd like to see him learning at Liverpool.

Fellow Reds,

I find myself attracted to this site hoping for news confirming incoming players. So far, only Sigurdsson seems likely. I know the window has not opened yet, but not unlike many of you I felt as if we were already behind on the clubs we want to catch. However, we need not forget that last season we invested heavily in players who have not delivered. Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Adam and even Suarez have all underperformed. Consequently, B. Rodgers' biggest challenge will be to make them more effective players. We also have Lucas coming back from injury and if we can find one or two quality players at a reasonable price, perhaps those big names people long for are only a season or two away. I have trust in the new manager and I assume that he'll give some of our talented young players a chance to show themselves. If Liverpool can play good football and significantly improve on the point total of last year, I believe we should be happy with our season. I know some might find that I lack ambition, but that's how I see it.

i think Kyriakos Papadopoulos would be a good signing. he's built like a tank and never backs out of a tackle. He's played well for greece in the euros and has been playing well for Schalke

Ahoy - an excellent idea, if we also signed Papa Boupa Diop to play alongside Papadopoulos the club shop would save a fortune equivalent to Gerrard's salary by ordering P's D's and B's for replica shirts in bulk.

EXCLUSIVE
By Romeo Agresti

Juventus have turned their attention to Chelsea attacker Fernando Torres as they have set their sights on a high-profile striker ahead of the 2012-13 campaign, and have made a €30 million (£24m) offer for the Spain international,

The Serie A champions had initially set their sights on Napoli star Edinson Cavani, but they have no intention of meeting the Partenopei's €70m valuation of the Uruguay international.

The Spain international has been struggling to live up to the high expectations at Chelsea ever since his €58m move to the Blues in January 2011, and could be allowed to move on if the price is right.

Juventus director Fabio Paratici first met with Fernando Torres' entourage during the winter transfer window to discuss a potential move, and the Old Lady have now stepped up their interest a notch.

They are not only willing to splash the cash on the attacker, but are ready to include Italy international Sebastian Giovinco in the deal, too.

The View From Italy
"Torres is the second choice for Juventus, but the impression is that getting Cavani is going to be very difficult, so Torres could be the perfect solution. To be competitive in the Champions League, Juventus need a striker with international experience. Torres has that and he is slowly returning to his form of old."

- Vittorio Campanile, Italy Chief Editor Chelsea already have plenty of creativity in their squad with the likes of Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Juan Mata, but manager Roberto Di Matteo is a keen admirer of Giovinco, and would relish the chance of working with the tricky attacker.

Nevertheless, the potential transfer of Torres to Juve is by no means a done deal yet as there are still plenty of obstacles to overcome.

The Bianconeri could struggle to meet the striker's wage demands as he is currently on an annual salary of nearly €10m.

Additionally, Chelsea are unlikely to sell the forward until they have secured the services of a new striker themselves. The Champions League winners are believed to be keen on Porto striker Hulk, but an agreement is still far away.

First contact between both clubs has been made, though, and Juventus appear to be sitting in pole position to lure Fernando Torres to Turin if his current club indeed opt to sell the beleaguered striker this summer.

So, JWH has been speaking about stadium plans this week and I for one agree completely with him. I think the best way to generate revenue at the moment would be to further expand our fan base in the US.. last week I mentioned we were close to agreeing a deal with Clint Dempsey, heard yesterday that that deal wont be happening anymore with BR looking at "alternative targets". Moving in the right direction guys

If he's the next Harry Kewell that means he's the next long term sicknote. Still, keeps the physios busy I suppose.

Who are you. Do one dirkhead

Beat me to it - Kewell was a bigger waster
than Aquilani has turned out to be

Puzzled

Yeah but in fairness to the Ozzie he was great for leeds and Australia. Just not us. CQ

Kewell cost 5m...Aquilani cost 20m...Kewell had more real injuries than Aquilani could make up as an excuse yet he played as much as possible at less than fully fit and with more desire in his little pinky than Aquilani could ever have...

the season he was healthy during Rafa's tenure we finished third in the league, a point behind United...in the same season he was key to us winning matches like the derby when Gerrard was sent off and the FA Cup semi against Chelski...

unbelievable that there are Reds still slagging Kewell after we have had the likes of Aquilani, Poulsen in our team...and if we're comparing players in the same role...Downing makes Kewell look like Messi...

the sad thing is that due to his injuries being mismanaged, it has cost him a long career, and what were supposed to be his peak years for Liverpool and Australia

Can't wait for Gylfi Thor Sigurðsson to be unveiled as LFC player already! Would add that extra creativity in the final 3rd, a few goals as well, young...very good signing in my opinion.

LFC fans should ignore all reports of "other teams" going for Sigurdsson, he will sign for LFC as i said 2 weeks ago

former lfc player Markus Babbel who manages Hoffenheim has confirmed the start of negotiations for Sigurdsson with LFC. should be a Liverpool player by the weekend if it runs smoothly.

It's a conspiracy that we have to play these teams

No need to panic we show up against the big teams, our problem is beating the lesser teams.

We also have a series of 10 games against week opposition with a few mid table clubs thrown into play. It's all about finding those results against these teams that will ultimately decide the outcome of the next season

We have a really tough start to the season. I certainly believe that a good set of starting fixtures can be a real boost to a teams confidence for the season. Alas for us we got the fixtures from hell.

Steve Clark and his West Brom will not be a pushover, not for us anyway, Steve will be so up for this. Prediction: DRAW

Sunderland are a bogey team for us, if it can wrong against them it will, beach ball anyone? Prediction: LOSS

Arsenal even though as usual we battered them at Anfield again last year, we lost as usual, this seems a norm over the last few years. We play them off the park at Anfield and they don't lose. Another bogey team? Prediction: LOSS

Its touch and go how we fare against Man Utd and Man City, while I don't believe we will lose both, It should not surprise anyone if both games ended up as draws. Prediction: BOTH DRAWS

Hopefully Suarez will have Norwich's number again in our sixth. Prediction: WIN

Total 6 Points in first six

Sparrow
{Ed016's Note - Bit negative aren't ya}

Good job we have fans like you - hope you don't sit on the Kop and pass your enthusiasm on.

West Brom- Win
Sunderland- Loss
Arsenal- Draw
Manchester United- Win
Manchester City- Loss
Norwich- Win

10 Points in these games

They're only fixtures from hell if we don't turn up!
If we hit the ground running its a great opportunity to take some points off City, Arsenal and Utd
Joe

Away and follow some other team cos u certainly dont SUPPORT liverpool.

What a positive post :S

Pessimistic or what. I think we will do ok in the first five games. We've shown we can beat anyone, and last season we were unlucky against Arsenal, and did well against the manc teams.

I think with the new signings and coach the squad will be up for it.

Wait and see its a long way off so no need to jump off the bridge just yet.

I'm optimistic and why shouldn't we be?

Jonesred

Personally, am a bit cautious of the first 10 games under a new manager - can take time for players to get used to the way the gaffer wants them to be played. Saying that, I would still hope for more than 6 points! IF (big IF!) we get off to a flyer and pick up say 12 points off the first 6 games, we will do ok for the season, IMO. If we only get 6, it will be a very long season indeed.

Nick.

Wow! This guy's looking forward to the start of the season.

I'm going for 6 out of 6 with a total 18 points!

I was just hoping for a change we would get a Chelsea like fixture list, you know the kind where they usually don't play anyone of note for their first six games. Typically Chelsea got their wish again, and will probably be top of the league after their first five games, only toughie they have in the start to this season is Arsenal away in their sixth game. We will have to listen to Chelsea blabber on about how good they are, and how Di Matteo is the best manager ever.

But the plus side is they will be again beaten by the very first decent side they meet and then by Christmas they will have lost to at least City, Liverpool and United and the will now be blabbering for Di Matteo's head and more super stars to be signed. Oh to be spoilt.

Do you follow Liverpool

"How they don't count Downings cross that Carroll scored against Everton in the first game as an assist? -McMenemy"

David moyes has no ambition, leave that club and do something with your career..... on second thoughts stay and continue to win nothing!!
IN MOYES WE TRUST

Curiousgeorge

Anyone getting Moyes as their manager will be getting one of the best, young managers in the game today. He is forward thinking and able to recognise unknown but talented players.

On the BBC website today he said Cristiano Ronaldo was the best player at Euro 2012 and Messi was the best player in the world. Where does he learn about these players?

JRG

Maybe he is waiting for fergie to pack his bags.. he did study under him

Sorry, but everton had a much better season than you last year. And you will try and cover it up by saying ooohh we won the carling cup ( big deal ) you struggled against cardiff. you lost the fa cup final to a team who were frankly poor in the league and played negative football in the ucl and yet they played you off the field. and to top it off everton did finish above you in the league.
IN KING KENNY WE TRUST ... OH WAIT
SPARKY {Ed005's Note - We lost the FA Cup final to the European Champions elect mate so they must be an alright team eh? Lets consider this - we won a trophy this year (more than you have in donkeys) and we finished 8th in the league yet we consider that a total failure beyond degree. Everton finished 7th, won nothing, got no European football and you consider that an absolute success and are delighted. I think that says a lot about the standards at our clubs.}

Couldn't agree more, Curiousgeorge, they have reached their ambition on a few occasions which is to finish above us in the league.
I have lots of Blue nose mates who have given me some stick over the last season, they now think they have a great team who can push for 4th spot next year, and to top it all they are disgusted we are shorter odds than them to do it. I know some of us on here are delusional but they can match us with some of their claims.

If they lose Moyes I cannot think of any manager who would do as well with as little money, they should be scared!

As for Moyes, I think he knows he is safe at EFC and a bit wary of failing at another club if he finally gets money to spend.

roll on next season.

Big Bill LFC

Would you say the same about Torres if he stayed at LFC?

This is our page so why talk about everton lad.We do are stuff let them do there stuff.

Leave the bitter jibes to them lot lad and worry about your own club.

DaveyBootle

Absolute nonsense. A good solid young manager whose still very early in his career. Punching above his weight with a moniless Everton side and surely if he doesn't leave this summer he will next. If he jumped ship every 3 years for a bigger pay you'd be calling him a greedy so and so. Leave the weak jibes to other teams fans.

what always puzzled me (appropriately) is that we often see posters saying Chelsea,City or United have signed such and such, they are going to be much stronger. The same people, when there is talk of new players joining us,say 'ah they will take a few months to gel'...!

So players joining us will not improve us until Christmas but anyone joining competitors is an immediate threat.
What is that all about?

Puzzled

You are always Puzzled!

Its a complex quation but here's one aspect of the answer, its not the full answer don't have time for that!

The more money you spend on an established quality player the more chance they have of making an instant or a relatively instant impact when they join.

For example LFC bought henderson for 20M and he's still in the settling period after one year at LFC, Chelsea around the same time bought Mata for 23M and he slotted into the chelsea midfield relatvely quickly especially in comparison to henderson or adam.

Clubs with more money can get that little bit extra quality player and that can make all the difference.

AnCo

Yes, but if you look at the mass changes Liverpool made in one and a half seasons such as Suarez,Carroll,Adam,Hendo,Downing and Enrique. Not to mention squad players like Bellars and Coates! That is always going to take time. Man Utd and Citeh are adding players to an already great squad therefore less pressure to produce immediately.

The Irish Rover

Possibly ... but the players joining us are not of the same calibre as those joining others.

Sig, Elm, etc vs Podolski, Hazard, Vertonghen, Kagawa, etc

They will most likely have a bigger impact

LFC_SA

I agree to some extent, but we also have a new manager who is going to play a different style of football

redkenyan

How comes your posting on lfc site puzzled thought you were a Man Utd chelsea citeh arsenal tottenham fan

very puzzled

No it's all hype, how much money and how long did it take Chelsea to win the CL and Man City to win the PL no matter how much cash they spent success was not instant. Personally I think most of their "Marquee" players are vastly overrated. We did'nt do to badly against the big teams last season it was the smaller ones we seemed to struggle against, I can't wait for the season to start, think people will be surprised by how well we do.

Dav001

It is just an excuse for under performance.

Ash

Yes but my point is our supporters' views on both our and competitors' purchases. Not looking back and saying well yes mata slot right in and produced immediately but a lot on here EXPECT other teams' signings to be an immediate threat - but never ours and this view seems to be about ANY signing not just about the 'big tent' players

Puzzled

Another typical Puzzled post. I used your name in the search and i kinda like your posts..hope you are always puzzled

I know right!

Suarez and Torres both hit the ground running for us.

But for Torres to Chelsea he took a season and half to look decent and most of the City team of 2010-2011 took most of the season to gel.

Jolly Red

It is a complex quation for sure

How comes your posting on lfc site puzzled thought you were a Man Utd chelsea citeh arsenal tottenham fan

How they don't count Downings cross that Carroll scored against Everton in the first game as an assist?? -McMenemy

That cross was by Jose Enrique, wasnt it?

I'm sure it was Enrique who crossed?

It was enriques cross lol

It's probably because Enrique crossed it, McMenemy mate.

That was Enrique.

It was Enrique.

It was enrique's cross, not downing's.

In fact Downing was replaced by Bellamy in that game, I'm certain!

That is why Downing was not credited with an assist

RedSG

Wasn't it Enrique who crossed it and Kuyt ducked under the ball so it would go to Carroll?

Brisc93

I'm pretty sure it was Enrique who crossed that ball, your talking about the league game at Goodison right?

RedSG

Because it was Enrique's cross. John Bradley's words were "a goal made in Newcastle".

Harty.

I am pretty sure it was Suarez or Enrique but I could be completely wrong.

Jatt YNWA

Fine 1 assist. still a terrible record
jordan

Probably because it was Enrique who crossed it.

Because it was in the FA Cup not the league

He was aiming for Kuyt at the time though, but luckily the cross went through to Carroll. Credit where credit's due, technically he made one assist all season. Is that good enough for Liverpool?

McMenemy if you supported liverpool you would know it was Enrique who crossed it.Lee

IF you are a liverpool supporter , then try WATCHING them play , what a donut........... andy.

I worry for rogers, the start to the premier league is not nice. I know alot of the fans who will destroy him if all goes wrong, we are in a very pre-curious position and the transition period is in to its third year. So due to the fickleness of the fans nlw days i do worry about this young team and the manager. We are introducing a new philosphy and if theres struggles to start with, Can we take the pressure of losing. if not will the fans give them time or destroy there confidence as they did last year.

Scouse Ben

No they wont so,

Get real

BR is in a very difficult situation

And the reason he's there is because of FSG and his own personal ambition which may get the better of him

Brendan will find out that the leap from midtable into the top 4 is an difficult one much more difficult then he imagined and the higher up you go the money money you need all this bringing on players is a lot of Sh*te in the modern game there is no time for such deeds.

Its money and resources or stay where you are, like it or not that's the equation!

What team has won the EPL over the last 10 years without a budget that is well in excess of our current budget?

Answer NONE

Agree that we have a difficult start but if fickle fans wants BR sacked after the 6 games then they can go away and support someone else. We don't need at our club

We're unlucky that our 1st 3 home games are very difficult ones. BR will just be settling in, and won't have had the time to fully implement his ideas onto the players. However, the players always raise their game for the big games, and Rodgers doesn't strike me as one to be daunted by such games, in fact I think he'll relish it.

I would be pretty happy if we could get 3/4 points from those games, as I feel confident that we can get 9 points from the 1st 3 away games.

RedSG

I'll give the bloke a chance, but I've sharpened up the kitchen knife just in case.

Pre curious ay that should be a word

I think that City, Ars and Utd won't relish playing at Anfield so early on either so it works both ways. At least our players are going to have to step up to it pretty smartish....might be a good thing.

Going by the latest rumours there won't be any high profile signings, mostly younger players who want to make a name for themselves with the exception of Krasic

Most likely to sign

Gylfi Sigurdsson (CAM)
Milos Krasic (RF)
Fabio Borini (Striker)
DM- One of : Clasie / Diame / Wanyama
Defender- Bedimo

WOW! All these players really excite me! - NOT.

Why don't they excite you?

And Krasic isn't as young as you think mate, and he has attitude issues, but a lot of physical talent. We'll see!

McSnuggles

18 Jun 2012 12:32:47
Hope we get Gylfi, he is class and looks like we have great chance to sign him, if we do Adam may need move on. The thing we need is cover for is DM, we missed Lucas and Spearing was not good enough. Wanyama wants to play in the prem, he can also play CB if need be as he has done at Celtic. We would be wise get the lad in, he could blossom in the prem, look at the talent we have missed out on (Jelavic was a bargain) and Newcastle have shown interest in him, their scouts seem to have the midas touch lately. West ham are looking at him and Chelsea apparentley. Absolute powerhouse and versatile. As for striker god knows who we gonna get, same with winger situation. Id take a punt on Krasic as he seems linked heavbily and I would like him sign for us.

18 Jun 2012 11:26:56
Watched the Holland vs Portugal game. Holland had soo many attacking players on, and no midfield defense, allowing Portugal to 'run at' the back four each time they attacked.
It just reminded me of how much we missed Lucas through the season.
Attackers for the main part, just can't defend.
Even with the attacking force Holland started with they only managed a single goal, which goes to show, that without the right balance, perceived advantages can count for nothing, and 'too many chefs spoil the broth'.
Shankly's Red Army.

You're having a laugh aren't you ?
We were lucky if there was ever more than 2 x players in the box when we broke !
The Real KB

But many hands make light work

Also, many of their star midfileders go for the shot rather than the pass - worked for Van der Vart, didn't work for the others. I don't remember a single clear-cut chance coming after a quick combination.
Goes to show that class ain't everything.

Drigan

Our defence was the 3rd best in the league, defence wasn't the problem, it was our inability to take our chances

Personally I think having Lucas makes us more attackive, it allows the others to attack more freely knowing he is there, particularly because he is good at what he does. Example, Henderson would not full-out attack knowing that Adam was in the defensive role -McMenemy

And don't count your chickens before a stitch in time or summut...

Myk

In fact we had the 4th best defence get your facts right.

Hi Eds & Reds,

new season fixtures have been released, doest not look too bad does it !

In relation to new signings, Brendan Rodgers is gonna wait until the team of the Euros is announced and launch a 400 million pound bid to buy the lot. (lol)

So Eds & Reds, your predictions for next season:

1 Citeh
2 Chavski
3 Sc*m
4 Liverpool

5 Gooners
6 Toon Army

18 West ham
19 Reading
20 QPR

Unfortunately, I think Citeh will only get stronger, Chavski will improve as well, Old Whiskey Nose's charges will be there or there abouts, but i definitely think they will begin to decline. As for our good selves, realistically, i'd be be delighted with 4th, giving us a stepping stone to make the push for a title charge in the next couple of years, it would be a definite starting point.

As for relegation, West Ham, simply because simply I dont like Fat Sam, Reading because I think they will lack goals to keep them up and QPR, because simply, Mark Hughes, simply is not that good a manager and I expect him to be found out for that. Also add in the fact that little toad wont be able to play for them until November 24th and I think they are in serious trouble.

I would not be at all suprised if Hughes got the sack by November and Arry to take over.

Your thoughts,

Rebel_Red

Good call on the Harry to QPR.. Myt be worth a little punt...

Myk

What makes you think we will finish above Arsenal and Newcastle? Dont forget we still have Henderson, Downing, Carroll and Adam who cost loads of money and were c**p last season.

To be honest I would think that Harry (especially in view of his age) would like to finish up at West Ham..he will have gone full circle

Puzzled

Well A) by the grace of good God, Charlie Adam will be sold this summer, hes not good enough, simple as.
B) Hopefully same will happen to Downing

C) Rodgers will get the best out of Henderson and Carroll and no doubt will bring in further quality to the squad

D) Cause I think RVP will do one to Citeh and even if he doesnt, if he gets injured I cant Podolski or Giroud scoring anywhere near the amount of goals he does and Newcastle to their credit over achieved last season but I cant see them repeating it.

E) Finally, I believe we can do it. The amount of negativity shown by some so called fans is a joke. Brendan Rodgers is not even here a month, has not had the opportunity to assess players, international transfer window is not even open yet and the doom mongers are in full swing.

Am i the only one who thinks realistically, 4th place next season would be a terrific achievement,we have to learn to crawl before we can walk, talk of winning the league is far too soon, I think we can win the premiership but its gonna take a couple of years. Start with the moderate success of getting 4th and build on it.

@ Puzzled, Arry more or less said he wants to go to a club who will have money to spend and Mr Hernandez at QPR has a bucket load burning a hole in his pocket

Rebel_Red

E)

1 city
2 Chelsea
3 united
4 arsenal
5 Liverpool
6 Newcastle
7 spurs

We will aim for top 4 but if I'm honest with the quality arsenal are buying and the quality we are linked with ( I did say linked as I don't think the media have a clue ) we may fall short but it does depend on this summer

LFC first 5 league games:
18/08/12 - WBA - away
25/08/12 - Man City - home
01/09/12 - Arsenal - home
15/09/12 - Sunderland - away
22/09/12 - Man Utd - home

WBA-Played terribly against them last season. All passing, no end product. Ended up conceding due to a horrible defensive error.
Man City-With the reinforcements they're probably gonna bring in and the extent of the players you're gonna lose/already have lost you'll easily lose about 0-4.
Arsenal-Dependent on whether they keep RVP. Already highlighted their transfer targets. IF they sign M'Vila and Giroud and combine that with Walcott and Podolski, well; enough said.
Sunderland-Liverpools bogey team. Terrible record playing them both home and away. See you losing this too.
Man Utd-It's possible you could get a result here but then again you might not. Depending on how Liverpool turn up on the day.
Overall conclusion; Use Maxi more.

If we perform as we have been at home I would give us 4 points and talk of the manager being under pressure, but let hope things have changed under BR. Bring back the fortress of Anfield.

Why the negitivity?why not be positive! and say if we win all 5 games which we are capable of then we will get of to a flyer with plenty of confidence
mrbrown

Can only see 2 points out of them games

Why would you happily take 10 points? that would mean losing a game

Not gonna bother commenting on this post, I'm just off to another teams rumours website to spout some crap about how they won't win any of their first 6 games, as I have no life!

Honestly, we will be lucky if we get 5pts from those games. Come late September we will be hearing dissenting voices again and calls for Rodgers head. Same old story I'm afraid.

As I was just saying on another page - I don't think it matters (except to the newly promoted teams) when/where your easy or hard games are in the season - we all play everyone twice..just get on with it

Puzzled

We should have got 15 pts last season,as we were the better team against all them teams, in the corresponding fixtures, we just didn't take our chances.
Jiminy Cricket

Remember, we do well against big teams....?

We have a series of 10 against the mid tables and lower. 30 points must be obtained.
AnfieldUSA

How about we wait and see the results before get our undies in a hitch? Getting wound up before the OS transfer window has opened and well before a pre-season game has started. The Euros havent even finished off the group stages and we are lining up our manager for a strike because of poor results. Do we not see the madness in this? Chill Winston.

Hi ed's I know this isn't LFC related but will RVP be at Arsenal next season because buying Podolski and possibly Giroud suggests he is going maybe?

Greg {Ed002's Note - Chamakh will go but I suspect RVP will stay.}

What about the Korean flop they bought from Monaco

The korean flop is off for military service, no joke.

The same Korean flop lots of people here wanted KK to sign, because he was "class".

LOL, I'm happy it was "yet another missed opportunity" etc etc

Marc

Surely with the confirmation of Giroud going Arsenal that's a sign of preparing for life without RVP. Why would Podolski and Giroud go to warm the bench?

Ed002 It was on the BBC teletext yesterday that Arsenal have admitted that their going to sell RVP for 30mil

Not a rumour guy's any one else happy with the fixture's and the run in we have ?

Nice run into Xmas , if we get off to a good start we'll be lookin good.

Generally happy with the fixture list.
Suppose good to get the hard games out the way early IMO.
Dont Forget UEFA Cup dates to be released as well, so expect a few games to be moved a little.
Had to be WBA first game eh ! i was thinking it will be Swansea.
Roll on 18/8/12.
Piddy

I naturally thought Swansea aswell, the old manager, new club switcheroo type thing. But it turns out they've done that the other way round in a manner of speaking, with Steve Clarke.

Morning Eds.
Great site on most days. I was wondering if there was any decent rumours regarding a DM this summer? Apparently the Diame thing does not look likely anymore and although I like spearing for his graft I feel his passing and positional play arent really good enough.
Hope I get a reply
Jay {Ed002's Note - There are none that I am aware of.}

18 Jun 2012 09:34:42
Not a Rumour as such but is there any chance we would look to sign Krohn-Dehli? Looked good in the euros, hard working player and chipped in with a few goals. Reminds me a little of Kuyt.

Good idea to replace Kuyt like for like.
Hope he's as good at taking stick.:(
Coz that's what he'd get? Not good enough.
kidmillions

Total failure at ajax and played for brondby the last 4 years. 29 years old, would be a crap signing

Totally unfair - Kuyt been an excellent servant and has won us some important games..sure age is creeping up but we have Liverpool born players, we could (but don't) say the same about

Just 2 quick things i wanted to ask Eds. Firstly, i realise there is no real link of Carroll leaving and personally i will be pleased to see him stay but what do you think about all this talk of getting rid of him for as little as £12 million? Do you think if we could we should take a deal like that? Personally i think he will shine this year and get better every year after, minus injuries of course

Also, i have heard a few Eds say they do not rate Walcott for LFC. Personally i think he is what we need and thought this way before the good England performance before people start blasting me.
Just wondered why you wouldn't want him (minus weak cross) or if any Eds do actually want him?

thanks as always for great job
gareth {Ed002's Note - I would not expect that Liverpool would accept a bid of £12M for Carroll. I really don't know whether any Eds would like to see Walcott at Liverpool.}

I cannot think of one single legitimate reason why LFC would let Carroll leave for 12m and take a 23m loss. Gotta be BS.

cozinoz

Arsene wenger is known to be best manager for youngsters but yet he failed with wallcot

Q to the eds, don't Newcastle gain 25% of whatever fee Liverpool would sell Andy Carroll for? I remember reading something along those lines, don't know whether it was rumour or fact.

RedSG {Ed002's Note - No, I don't think that is true.}

You didnt mention why you think Walcott is not good enough? I know im being pushy but just wondered. I think he would be perfect for us and have for years to be honest but interested in what you think

gareth

At christmas last year I'd have swapped Carroll for Heskey! Looked much better in the 2nd half of the season though and I thought Kenny was wrong dropping him as soon as he started playing well!

i personally belive we need more pace in our side. im also a first time poster on here and belive with 3 or 4 good signings such as munian.. saldado.. gilfi... and maybe krasic we wont be that far of.... YNWA!!

Replace tello with krasic

Tello's not happenin mate barca are t offer him a new contract.... other than that i agree.

This one is for all the red men and women on this great site. At the minute their seems to be a lot of doom and gloom amongst our fans. This feeling is being fuelled by the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal Manc City and Utd, who seem to be willing to spend big.

Of the four teams mentioned I think Chelsea are the team who have most to fear. Yes they have a sugar Daddy with deep pockets, but my feeling is that he will have to dig very deep to keep Chelsea in the top 4. Even though they won the CL and an FA Cup I still feel that they are well past their sell by date.

Man Utd don't have a great team, but they just seem to be able to grind out results, and they will still be the team to beat along with City. Arsenal well that depends on Van Persie. If he stays then they will be in the top 4 if he goes they will be in trouble.

Now for Liverpool, buy Krasic, Tello and Siggurdsoun. Sell Skrtel 15 million (if he wants to leave) replace him with Coates. This means we can now look at a top class striker. Sell Cole, Maxi, Spearing and Aquallani bring 1 or 2 yougsters in and now we look like a top 4 team.

Elmo96

And why do you think Roman will not dig deep?

His chelsea team destroyed us in the FA cup - Get Real - FFS

We have many inferior players tp chelsea analyse them position by position and we need to spend big the problem is we can't

Life in the real world

Destroyed is a strong word same way they destroyed barca
red branch

Who won the FA cup

Let me think it was not anyone who wears red, was it?

I am not too sure we have MANY inferior players compared to Chelsea. We certainly have several who didn't show up much last season but Chelsea are not what they were!
Drogba has gone, who can say Torres has turned the corner?, Lampard and Terry yet another year older and Meireles gets more stick there than he did here.

I think of the top teams this past season Chelsea are the one I would fear least

Puzzled

Who has Roman signed already for next season?

Hazard
Marin
Looking for Hulk

C'mon I'am not a chelsea supporter but FFS apply a bit of common sense, Roman is already replacing those that need replacing and with quality repalcements.

Who have we signed so far?

Chelsea will keep spending long after we have stopped.

FSG are poor owners thats it spin it any way you want but thats the bottom line cause Stone Cold Said So.

Hey eds,
Was just wondering if it's worth creating an addressed rumours page with a list of players so you don't have to keep dishing out the same answers over and over. These could be updated when the situation changes etc.

What do you reckon?

ChrisMiz {Ed023's Note - I'll leave a note}

Imagine if Portugal had a half decent striker, they would be pretty damn awesome.

They do, shes called ronaldo, if shes a midfielder then im steven gerrard.

Not at all convinced about these "Dutch" players we are linked with, Affelay (well!), De Jong (who is he, was he even at the Euros).
Come on LFC, we can do better.

You were expecting De Jong to play ahead of RVP and Huntelaar!! De Jong is good , but he is still a long way from the same status as Persie and Huntelaar,

All of them had a disappointing tournament. Van Maarwijk was to blame, coz the tactics yesterday were awful. Everyone knows how good the dutch players r.
Indian Buzzer

Hazard wasn't at the euros either

Possibly because belgium didny qualify

king ken

Still not there...

hi eds any chance of fernando gago? i understand that roma have turned down the chance to sign him on a permanent deal and gago himself has ruled out returning to madrid after being disrespected by mourinho {Ed023's Note - Try the search function, ED002 has explained Gago's situation}

18 Jun 2012 00:35:47
walcott
sigurdson
muniain
sturridge
wayama (the celtic kid that plays CDM)

probally spelt all of there names wrong but i think you all know who im talking about

anyone agree or disagree with the signings i would like to see and i consider reasonably realistic?

Jpow_LFC

I think Tello would be more likely than Munian.

That would cost a lot i would go
Tello
Munian
Hooper
Sigardson
Diame
You could even swap Munian for Ramirez if he turns us down

18 Jun 2012 00:33:01
Andy Carrol to PSG for £12.5m..

Is there any truth to this at all?

Thanks {Ed023's Note - No}

18 Jun 2012 00:29:11
Alright lads, who do you think has been the best player in each group this Euro's?

My opinion:

Group A: Petr Jiracek
Group B: Mesut Ozil
Group C: Andrea Pirlo
Group D: Steven Gerrard

What's your opinion?

BthekingB {Ed023's Note - A Dzagoev - B Gomez C Pirlo D Benzema}

I agree with the three first ED. But in group D Gerrard has been outstanding {Ed023's Note - He has, but I have backed France so am biast there lol}

Group A: Dzagoev
Group B: Hummels
Group C: Silva
Group D: Gerrard

Keith YNWA {Ed016's Note - Gerrard is looking fantastic. Hoping he doesn't get an injury. Knock on wood}

Think nasri has done well

My god, Benzema is awful

Group A: Georgios Samaras
Group B: Arjen Robben
Group C: Mario Balotelli
Group D: John Terry

New prem fixtures out at 9am, would not be suprised to be away at Southampton, Reading or West ham for first game, just a feeling i have.
{Ed023's Note - I'm gonna say Newcastle}

I want City!

dont know why so many people dislike walcott i personally have always liked him just teach him how to cross a ball and he would be perfect!

Jpow_LFC

Nope, i reckon put him on the left, where he can drift in. His assist count is ever growing and he actually has a pretty good shot on him. Don't worry about crosses too much, it is Andy Carroll that will have to fit our style of, not us that will have to suit his... and yes he can do it!

18 Jun 2012 00:22:46
hi eds iv been told through an italian customer of mine that bojan is apparently looking for a move away from roma already. dont know if this is correct but just wondering if you had heard anything?

He was very upset by the move in the first place, he did not want to leave Barca, and still feels he should not have left. When he decides to buy himself a dessert spoon and a bag of cement powder and just harden the f*** up, he'll find a club and possibly take the world by storm. But until then, he'll be a little bit angry at the world...

18 Jun 2012 00:14:09
I would definetly not mind if we signed.
Sigurdsson-AM
Tello-LW/RW
Sturridge-ST/RF

I think sturridge would be great. Would learn under rodgers system and better himself. He can score and option for out wide to.

Also
Diame/ Victor Wanyama-DM Backup

N. Clyne-RB Johnson replacement.

F5.

I don't think Sturridge is overly keen on playing out wide, i think he'd rather be playing around the CF area.

How would he fit into a system where passing is important, sturridge

Kaizer

Passing is to Sturridge as discreet is to Dave Whelan

Lewandowski- unlikely
