18 Jun 2016 22:29:00
Eds I think he's talking about Mercado.

{Ed002's Note - I was under the impression that Mercado was moving to Monterrey.}

18 Jun 2016 22:39:18
That's the guy my pizza guy was talking about!

18 Jun 2016 22:41:11
Gabriel Mercado, Ed.

River Plate boss apparently admitted today that Klopp is very interested in the right back.

{Ed002's Note - Ok.}

18 Jun 2016 22:48:57
I thought it was the construction set I used to play with when I was a kid 😀.

18 Jun 2016 23:50:20
He could never get a work permit either, pure rubbish story.

19 Jun 2016 08:03:54
My pizza guy never pass me any damn rumours. Got to find meself a new supplier!

19 Jun 2016 09:47:30

It is Redohio.

19 Jun 2016 22:28:15
Apparently if argies win copa it may help his work permit/ visa, how i don't no just relaying what i read.

18 Jun 2016 20:04:30
I just read a ridiculous article on This is Anfield, complete balderdash, gibberish from one Sachin Nakrani, suggesting that our old #15 and homecoming queen Danny Sturridge didn't receive as much love from our fans because of his skin pigmentation (in this case black) .

The first point I dispute is in fact that Donald Sturridge does not receive much love from the Liverpool fans. I for one am full of adoration for Daniel and am very grateful to him for his goals for the club.

He's a real Vulture (reportedly played by Hollywood bigshot Michael Keaton) inside the box, puts real Venom into his shots, in fact the user eddiebrock99 I was wondering if you'd know anything about this (whether it's to do with the symbiote or not) . Honestly though he causes Carnage inside the box and is always (Green) Gobbling his chances up.

But really to suggest that Tom Holland is not loved by the fans because of his skin colour is the dumbest thing I ever did read for goodness sake: how do you explain the cult hero status of players such as Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and the most obvious one El Hadji Diouf? It really is beggars belief that these editors on TIA allowed this article, must be struggling for ideas or some such.

Believable5 Unbelievable21

18 Jun 2016 20:49:54
Haha, I haven't seen the article, but I'll be sure not to give it a hit now.

18 Jun 2016 22:03:28
You miss the point completely, which isn't surprising given the topic. He's talking about unconscious bias. But I do find the argument using sturridge specifically difficult tho. Of had more time woyld look more deep into it.

18 Jun 2016 22:51:37
Faithinworks, it is total BS to suggest Liverpool fans have a bias against black players. John Barnes is regarded by myself and many others as probably the second best player in the clubs history after Dalglish.

Anyone claiming Sturridge is under appreciated due to pigmentation is clutching at straws, and trying to pull a non-existent race card.

I suppose we also hate Can for being Muslim?

Or Kolo, Clyne, Sakho, Ibe, Benteke, Ojo and Origi for being black?

Don't even point that finger at English football because we are the least racist country on the planet, and I won't hear it. Total BS.

I am quite frankly disgusted and offended that such an accusation has been levelled at Liverpool fans. Especially when a good majority of our fans reside on other continents including Africa, Asia and South America (where large portions of the population are darker skinned) .

That article isn't worth the time it took to write.

19 Jun 2016 01:16:19
I was going to stay out of this argument but to claim this is the least racist country on the planet is incorrect. However, with regard to sturridge the unconscious bias argument may have some credence for some sections of the fanbase but on the whole i would say that it is not a factor for the majority.

19 Jun 2016 06:25:48
MK -he ain't talking about hate. The research is clear that unconscious bias exists. Its natural, but as I said I struggle to see how it applies to sturridge. Altho his connection to management positions is somwthing worth looking into further. And it's a debate that is better served by leaving the hyperbole to the side.

19 Jun 2016 09:11:56
Before Barnes signed for us he used to get monkey noises aimed at him at Anfield bananas where thrown on the pitch once. ( I defo remember that) . Don't think it's a colour thing with Sturridge why he has fans so split.

19 Jun 2016 10:25:42
Oh boy my Studgey senses are tingling anyway must swing as I've got some Uncle Ben's in the microwave and my aunt may be hungry.

19 Jun 2016 10:30:06
What a load of old tosh.

19 Jun 2016 10:42:51
I'm sorry but to think that this country is the least racist is extremely naive! I can tell you first hand that it definitely does exist. Consciously and unconsciously! Also, in many live games in this country there is racial slurs, insults and names called out to black and mixed race players when something goes wrong in a game from the stands. I don't know about this Danny S situation but it wouldn't surprise me if racism has been involved. Remember Rio Ferdinand getting racist tweets after his wife died? The John Barnes/ bananas on the pitch example said earlier is also relevant. All that has changed is the medias ability to cover such things up.

19 Jun 2016 10:47:10
England not racist?
I have worked in most of the major European countries and England is probably the most racist if I'm honest.

19 Jun 2016 10:49:11
Scousejohn that was at goodison, but at the time of his signing which was around 86 I think most grounds in England were full of bigots and there was a lot of negativity around diggers signing but he was the ground breaking player of his generation and more or less single handedly change people's opinions of black players in the game, rio ferdinand was a Liverpool supporter simple because John Barnes played for us. But let's be clear, there was a lot of negativity around him signing from Liverpool supporters although having said that there wasn't a lot of negativity towards howie gayle but maybe that's because he was a local lad I don't know.

With regards to the banana throwing incident it was definitely at goodison because I was there and witnessed it first hand.

Sturridge doesn't receive " as much love from the fans " because he's black is complete nonsense, he's shown no connection to the supporters whatsoever since he signed and is metaphorically kept at arms length by the fans in the same way Michael Owen was, not because of his skin colour be because he hasn't t immersed himself in the club and it's fans just as Owen didn't which was why we didn't take to him and his subsequent switch to Madrid for peanuts and then man United shows we were correct to do so ( or are we anti Welsh now? ) . This country is now a PC nightmare with people looking for something which isn't there. People need to get a grip.

19 Jun 2016 13:07:17
Spot on Waro. Glad I got to read it before the usual trolls you attract got the thread deleted. Brilliant post though buddy. English Football has come a long way since the 80's.

And just to clarify, I did not say that English football didn't still suffer from racism. It does. But across every league on the planet, it is definitely up there with the most ethnically diverse and accepting leagues there are.

If you look at the national sides and even the league football for Italy, Spain, Greece, Russia, Poland etc it is very much dominated by white European players. Because opportunities in those countries are still limited if you are of a certain ethnic heritage.

The likes of England, France, Germany, Holland and Belgium are light years ahead in terms of racial acceptance. I am proud of that, which is why I completely refute the accusation that Sturridge is a victim of racism from Liverpool fans. It is total nonsense, and I don't care how much I upset the PC brigade.

19 Jun 2016 14:45:24
My sentiments exactly MK! I'm sure there'll be someone waiting to attack your post though, probably best to ignore the next set of replys (should the thread not be deleted of course)

19 Jun 2016 00:46:48
I know he doesn't heal as quick as a lizard but he is an electro player with a really spider sense for where the goal is our friendly neighbourhood sturridge its clear to see knows with great power comes great responsibility and there's no mysterio in knowing us fans love him even if he has the same skin colour as uncle Ben the lad is simply a kingpin or daredevil.

I say it's a marvel however the two most common adjectives used to describe our studge is amazing and spectacular Not to mention there are certainly no cobwebs in his brain as I would go as far as to say he has genius level intellect unlike a heartedly rhino but closer to an octopus like old Paul if he were a doctor so to speak. I love sturridge so much in fact if he requested I would give him an mj before every game and If sturridge were to ever leave I would have to see an agony aunt may be.

19 Jun 2016 17:34:51
Perhaps the unconscious bias thing is referring to often trotted out phrases like 'he has an attitude problem' when he has in fact shown no attitude problem what-so-ever? The perception of Sturridge is definitely different but what that is down to exactly i'm not sure.

Really don't agree with you at all Waro (your take on Sturridge that is) - I think Sturridge has conducted himself impeccably since arriving at Anfield and has shown the fans plenty of love - I remember the video of him getting out his car and dancing + talking with fans. What has he done to alienate himself from fans? I don't get it.

19 Jun 2016 18:08:02
MK and Waro- as you can see, I don't agree with all your points but I appreciate both your points of view. What I will ask is to please not dismiss a point of view that has been personally experienced and seen. However, I do not have a PC point of view (the whole pc concept to me is just another form of control which I don't agree with. ) I find this a interesting debate to be honest. You won't find any trolling from me and I really hope no one writes anything stupid to get this thread deleted! If either or both of you write a reply, I look forward to seeing it as I appreciate the honest posts you put up. Cheers lads, KB.

19 Jun 2016 22:45:17
Wow like Sturridge this post has really caused a divide amongst the fanbase. Can't wait to see how this discussion pans out and Franco I really am loving it but it really is a Shocker to me and I don't want to sound like Mister Negative here but how much longer do you see this Gwen on for? Anyway time for a pint down the Paris Ship and Mitre before training tomorrow.

18 Jun 2016 19:01:17

Craig Bellamy- goodfella

Bob Paisley - a autobiography
Harry redknapp

Got my favourites, but all worth a read.

Believable4 Unbelievable11

18 Jun 2016 21:45:31
There is an excellent biography called William Garbutt the grand father of Italian football. Steer clear of Diego Maradonas autobiography tho. Very disappointing.

18 Jun 2016 22:12:37
Micky Quinn who ate all the pies is a nice easy-read.

Good red Mick.

18 Jun 2016 17:12:52
Karius expected to miss the start of our season as he will most likely be in the German Olympic squad.

Believable4 Unbelievable14

18 Jun 2016 18:03:33
On the brighter side, Frimino and Coutinho is expected to be not included in the squad by Brazil.

18 Jun 2016 19:22:32
Looking forward to a migs howler vs arsenal.

18 Jun 2016 20:57:40
That'll only happen If the Olympics ever get off the ground because they look dead in the water as of now with Brazil unable to find its way out of a brown paper bag.

18 Jun 2016 23:25:10
wonderful.

19 Jun 2016 17:35:38
Believe Ed002 suggested this would happen weeks ago. Once again the ed's are first to the news, incredible.

18 Jun 2016 15:52:08
That robbie brady looks a good player watching him against Belgium .

Believable2 Unbelievable19

18 Jun 2016 15:55:32
Not as good as that Witsel bloke.

18 Jun 2016 20:14:34
Witsel is a thug. I'd rather see Fellaini on my team.

18 Jun 2016 21:02:33
That must be sarcasm, Hijkle because Fellaini is the real thug. As for Brady, he's not that good and we can do better than him.

19 Jun 2016 00:00:20
Can't stand Fellaini, who here can? absolute idiot who shouldn't be on a pitch, god knows how he's got away with what he gets away with every other game. If it was one of our players it'd be a different story but there you go. hjikle i'm guessing your having a joke there.

Certainly don't want brady. not one bit, don't need another wage hogger.

18 Jun 2016 15:37:09
Good news for Liverpool as both Coutinho and Firmino are left out of Brazil's provisional Olympic squad, unfortunately though, Karius is expected to be named in Germany’s Olympic squad, meaning Mignolet is likely to start the season for us.

Believable17 Unbelievable4

18 Jun 2016 18:07:21
For F***s Sake.

18 Jun 2016 21:04:06
At this stage, I doubt if the Olympics will ever happen and I hope they don't have it in Brazil because they are defo not ready and the Zika virus is still rampant there.

18 Jun 2016 11:59:22
Hi Eds and reds, basically I'm a big fan of reading football autobiographies and I was wondering if any of you guys had any that you could recommend? I've read both of Gerrards, carraghers, Zlatan's, pirlo's and I'm just about to start Gascoignes, thanks guys.

Believable0 Unbelievable16

{Ed002's Note - Try the one on Robin Friday.}

18 Jun 2016 12:36:26
El Macca is one of my favourites.

18 Jun 2016 12:59:56
Collymore is a d**k, but his Autobiography is a good read.

18 Jun 2016 13:58:14
Someone asked the same question a few weeks back, I suggested Paul Mcgrath's, it's the best one I've read along with 44 months with two cowboys! Worse one I've read, David ginola's, it's awful, steer well clear.

18 Jun 2016 14:31:01
Robbie Fowler's . just like him . down to earth . and honest.

18 Jun 2016 14:35:31
Not a footy one, but a sports one. The lance Armstrong autobiography is an interesting read considering it was all based on lies when he wrote it.

18 Jun 2016 15:00:14
Agree Ed002. The best footballer you never saw is a brilliant and quite sad read.

18 Jun 2016 15:39:00
Roy Keanes are good.

18 Jun 2016 15:44:11
43 years with the same bird by Brian Reade isn't bad, the Epic Swindle (44 months with 2 cowboys, Hicks and Gillet) is a must for any reds but give Sami Hyypia's a swerve, hardest autobiography Iv'e ever picked up.
One book, not an player autobiography, that is hilarious and really interesting but quite sad at times is In My Blood by Gerry Blayney, a massive reds fan for over 50 years who has travelled all over the world watching the reds, some of the stories are class.

18 Jun 2016 16:21:21
Joe Fagan. Geoff Twentyman. Both excellent reads.

18 Jun 2016 16:28:45
Best football book ever is the miracle of castel di sangro by Joe mcguiness. Also try the keeper of dreams, lars leese autobiography. superb.

18 Jun 2016 16:53:24
Ian wright, hilarious mate. Stories of him robbing cars and stuff in his late teens then next thing he knew he was playing for palace.

19 Jun 2016 11:36:15
Sorry, there's clearly a huge number of David ginola fans on here, I take it back, his autobiography is really very good👍.

18 Jun 2016 11:26:57
Hi eds, any truth in we are interested in signing kovacic and lucas moura or is it just paper talk, also do you expect us to sign another defender this window to partner matip and give lovren competition, My opinion is sakho does not have a future next season, so we will need another CB, also any news on a possibile left back, as talks have gone quiet on that part

Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable19

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine.}

19 Jun 2016 00:04:17
Sakho had no future next season? am i missing something here?

Kovacic and lucas moura will not be joining us mate, that's for damn sure, leave it alone.

18 Jun 2016 11:04:55
Sky Sports paper section reporting
Cezar azpilacueta is being made available for 12 million.
Aren't we after a left back? Always rated him any time I saw Chelsea play. Not that many times in all fairness. But cheap, proven experience?

Believable5 Unbelievable18

18 Jun 2016 11:14:04
Would take azpilicueta in a heartbeat but not going to happen i'm afraid.

18 Jun 2016 11:55:53
Why would conte sell him? I see no reason.

18 Jun 2016 12:28:17
He is originally a right back; still plays very well at left back!

18 Jun 2016 13:09:32
He is a good right back but i don't really like him left back.

18 Jun 2016 14:37:03
Utter nonsense rumour when we rejected an offer from Barcelona for him that was worth more than that.

18 Jun 2016 16:54:56
That gossip page is a load of bs mate. Just journos making up stories to sell papers.

18 Jun 2016 10:25:21
Just read a report that lfc r just clearing out players as klopp at the moment is happy with the squad
Il post a link.

Believable2 Unbelievable13

18 Jun 2016 10:49:38
Can't see it, surely klopp can't be that stupid?

18 Jun 2016 11:02:41
Unless we are struggling to land targets? In which case it might be a good idea.

18 Jun 2016 14:58:30
Getting rid is more vital. Can't afford to be stuck with a huge unhappy squad.

18 Jun 2016 21:08:04
Did Klopp say that or did the lazy journos put 2 and 2 together to make 5?

18 Jun 2016 08:57:06
Not saying we will get either of them but between Goetze or Kovacic who would people opt for?

For me it would be Kovacic. Who would you pick?

Believable4 Unbelievable9

18 Jun 2016 09:06:07
Definitely Kovacic. He can play anywhere in midfield. Gotze is very much a wide forward or a no.10 though. Plus he has a stinking attitude.

Kovacic is more suited to what we need. He fits in with the profile of player we are looking at (Dahoud, Zielinski etc) in that he is a midfielder who can create from deep, and carry the ball forward.

I honestly don't think he'd leave Real Madrid and make such a drastic step backwards in terms of his career. We are (whether we like it or not) a mid table team as things stand. I genuinely believe we could be title contenders with a good left back, Matip and Karius. But asking a player to sign on nothing more than a belief is unlikely to convince them.

18 Jun 2016 10:06:52
I really don't see what's so special about Gotze. I just don't see what extra he could bring to the squad.

18 Jun 2016 11:07:13
Kovacic.

18 Jun 2016 09:57:29
Goetze as he can play as a winger, Kovacic isn't the kind of midfielder that we need, he's not quick enough to play out wide and not very strong in the tackle. Luxury player that we can't really carry, particularly if we sign Zeilinski.

18 Jun 2016 10:29:07
Thanks MK. You clearly know about the player.

18 Jun 2016 13:18:17
Kovacic hands down, i'd even take mane over gotze now if i was forced into it. Kovacic would be zielinski mk 5 and would definitely improve the first team. Not happening though unfortunately.

18 Jun 2016 15:00:44
None of them.

18 Jun 2016 16:56:11
Kova but we have enough players in cm.

18 Jun 2016 17:40:44
I think Goetzes lack of gametime at Bayern has made people forget how good he is (or maybe was, I don't know now) .

While at Dortmund he was one of the best in the world in his position.

18 Jun 2016 12:57:32
Frankly

I have briefed below what he would bring to Liverpool.

Kovacic has been regarded as his nation’s next great No. 10. He is a classic playmaker with amazing attacking threat, but at the same time he has the immense potential to play ahead or behind that role. He can play anywhere in the midfield, in the centre, behind the striker or on the flanks. The 19 year old started off as an attacking midfielder, but he has astoundingly transformed his game in Milan, playing like a regista or a deep-lying playmaker. Like a good regista, the Croatian has good vision of the game, can make great interceptions and is able to perform a clean tackle. The youngster enjoys dropping deep to get the ball and then drive forward with pace and give the defenders a nightmare as he links with the other attackers.

The Real midfielder is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and has great dribbling abilities which give him the confidence to take on defenders. The maturity and poise he shows at such a young age is reminiscent of Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal.

Kovacic is a brilliant passer, someone who is almost always able to find a teammate at the end of one. He can give long balls to teammates as well. In the 18 league matches he has played for Inter 2 seasons ago, he had a pass completion rate of almost 91%. In Inter’s last Serie A match in the league (vs Chievo), Kovacic had a pass accuracy rate of 93%, 78 out of 84 passes were successful for the 19 year old. His ability to see a pass and then picking it out so accurately is exceptional and is only going to get better with time.

He would bring the creative spark in the middle. When the team sits back and make it combat, he would split the defense with his excellent range of passing.

18 Jun 2016 07:14:01
Good to see Sterlings having a good tournement 🦃

Aside from the players we've been linked with (Doesn't leave many), anyone spot any other players during this Euro 16 who'd you would like us to scout further for future transfer?

I liked the look of Kapsutka and Krychowiak from Poland.

Believable10 Unbelievable5

18 Jun 2016 08:03:15
Would love Krychowiak at the club!

18 Jun 2016 08:43:31
Your man iniesta should be looked at he's impressed me so far.

18 Jun 2016 09:10:27
Bonucci has been imperious. Maybe 29 but what a signing he would be.

I also think that Hungary player Stieber was very impressive. Unlike Bonucci though, I've never seen him at club level. But I think he'd be worth scouting.

Lastly a player I've always loved, Hamsik. World class player.

18 Jun 2016 11:17:13
Perisic, hector, krychowiak, bonucci are the ones i have been really impressed with so far.

Players of the tournament so far have got to be iniesta, kroos and for me, modric, who has been unbelievable the paat 2 games.

18 Jun 2016 10:31:14
Ohh MK, Hamsik is just brilliant. I cannot believe we are happily agreeing with each other.

18 Jun 2016 13:21:53
From the games i have watched, chiellini, sturridge, payet, hamsik, iniesta and pelle.

18 Jun 2016 15:05:12
Pelle had a stinker yesterday.

18 Jun 2016 15:28:28
Harry, it's a miracle buddy ;)
