I've just been told that Liverpool have made their long awaited return, after many many years, to European football tonight. After a hard fought campaign, I'm told you made it straight through to the final of the "Couldn't even make it into the Europa Cup...Cup Final"
What was the score, and can I expect to see an open top mini-bus parade around the City showing off a brand new trophy at last?

Sir Alex x

No, but we might just treat you to a parade of our 5 european cups.

Stu.

Your really scraping the barrell, now Alex mate. All friendlies are only good for one thing, fitness. If Johnson and Agger came through unscaved, it's a great result for us.

You'd better head outside and roll more snowballs mate, your recent ones are pretty weak tbh.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Stu

You really need to stop living in the past, and referring to rusty old trophies.

Blair

Admitting that a 1-0 defeat is "a great result for us" is probably the most honest thing you have said. Reality is at last sinking in.

Sir Alex x

Alex, the comments you make are more and more ridiculous. I've already lost even that bit of respect for you as a decent person. The bitter hatred you have for our club, I take it it's because of pure outright jealousy of our history and achievements, compared to whichever club you presently support. But then that's expected of an anti-LFC - coin throwing, plastic bottles, hurling abuse. What more can we expect from a bitter?
You have lost all reality and I really feel sorry for you

SingRed

I think you take me too seriously. Lighten up silly. I do not "hate" anyone let alone your little club. You are taking footy a little too seriously. Take a look at the United site and look at the Liverpool banter. If you are upset by some innocent daft comments, don't read it, and certainly don't respond...a rookie mistake...gotcha!

Sir Alex x

Sir Alex, not seen you on the Utd site for a while, is this because you were exposed as an Everton supporter?? Chin Chin ol boy.... HERBIE

It is said "that small things amuse small minds"... So Sir Smelex clearly you were not interested in watching your team perfom against (sorry! Who did they play), ha,ha, A fine Champions League Game against!

Hey Ed's, just wondering what is the case with Danny Wilson. I have always thought he was great whenever he played, and he should be given more opportunities. Unfortunately this has not been the case under Kenny. Will he be sent out on loan? Does he have a future with Liverpool, because he and Coates could be the centre back partnership of the next decade. {Ed001's Note - I must have seen a different Wilson, every time I have seen him he has disappointed, that is why he is not in the team. The club have made it known he can go out on loan.}

Who was it who actually signed Wilson Ed? Rafa or Roy?

Stu. {Ed002's Note - It was Roy Hodgson in charge but the deal may have been brokered earlier.}

IT WAS RAFA! nothing to do with roy it was a done deal,rafa even said in interviews after how he left liverpool knowing hed set some players for the future 1 of the names he always talked about was wilson!

sorry about the goalkeeper tonight hope it is nothing serious and he has a speedy recovery looked like a broken finger to me

18 Oct 2011 21:36:14
Lets not get too worried about the friendly the most important thing was getting players that have just come back from injury match fitness. Like Johnson, Aurelio and Agger.

The most important thing is the players are ready for sat and winning agaiinst Norwich.

The mighty Liverpool, I dont think so. Go on the Scottish champions.

Yeah they're good at rugby and MMA wrestling too that tackle on Agger was disgusting and completely unnecessary in a freindly , maybe they're the finest multi sport team in the world? Such a shame that they are useless at spotting talent as they sold a certain Charlie Adam to Blackpool for 500k. In other news Andy Carroll was very poor today and he needs to improve if he wants to get back starting 11 but he is only 22 and definitely shows promise also Coates was great today and i believe he will be first choice cb alongside Agger next year.
RustyNigel

Rustynigel we sold charlie adam because he is pish & couldn't get in our team & we put a 20% sell on clause in his sale terms, also we have a player coming through called jamie ness who plays same position as adam & will be 10 times the player adam will ever be, but we knew some team would pay ridiculous money for him hence the sell on clause, do yourself a favour watch him play for scotland I know thats a big ask but I suppose it's just like watching england because their s**te aswell & you will see how good he is, been taken off the last 2 games because he has been s**te, the guys problem is he trys 2 play the world cuppie pass all the time when the simple ball will do & when he plays against mobile midfielders he hasn't got a scoobie doo, but on another note I was at the game tonight & a big well done 2 your fans turned out in great numbers & good luck with the hillsborough report due out hate those tory a**eholes I remember the 2 minute silence that was held after the disaster like yesterday me & my best m8 stopped at 3 o'clock that day 2 wherever we were going & just sat thinking about what had happened at the end of the day we are all fans who have different opinions but we need each other 2 keep the game going it can't be allowed 2 happen again in any football ground. R

Disappointed for Andy tbf. Team limited his chances .. ie No width! Nice to see Coates get 90 min tho. All about Norwich this weekend lads Lee YNWA

I'd much rather see us win at the weekend, than win tonight to be frank. Tonight was obviously mainly to get back fitness for players like Aurelio, Johnson and Agger. As well as giving game time to people like Coates, Wilson, Spearing and etc. So really it was a productive friendly.

Ed what's the current score of the rangers game? Unable to watch.

not even close to our weekend performance. poor first half, and even worse we're one goal down. C'mon Andy, prove urself.Bellamy should be putted more into the wings. he and andy both have been complete strangers, uptil now.

Yea but look at it another way 9 players missing from the weekend last year this was all we had really at least we can say weve left 9 first choice players out coates seems to be growing in confidence tho these players now have probably not played many games together last year this was our team near enough

Shut up you tart, it's a friendly!

Is there anywhere to get the score?

I've been a Red since 1988 but when Hillsborough happened in '89, I was still a little boy.

Of cos I knew it was a huge tragedy and some of the footage we managed to see over hear in Singapore was shocking.

I may never know the pain and turmoil that my fellow Reds have gone thru the past 22yrs but I stand in total solidarity w them. JTF96.

On a side note- I noe that the sun and kelvin mckenzie did some gutter journalism back then but I dun quite noe what they did (i was a little boy in '89 on the other side of the planet).

Any chance smbody could share a bit about this w me?

Off topic, but i read today that certain owners in the pl are looking to close to doors ,and not allow any relagations or promotions. I think this would spell the end of our great league as we know it.We need the likes of Blackpool, West ham etc in this league as much as we need the top clubs!
Would like to know what everyone thinks of this on here? Eds have heard who these owners maybe? {Ed002's Note - It has not been said who the owners are - although years ago Phil Gartside suggested the same thing.}

It may not have been said who they are but it has been strongly hinted that the owners are "foreign"

Red Ollie

I heard that there was 2 clubs talking about it. blackburn with their indian owners and the american owners that were mentioned was the owners of sunderland. i cant see it happening any time soon though as 14 out of 20 prem teams would have to vote for it and then the FA would have to agree as well.

GMN {Ed003's Note - Blackburn came out with a statement today saying they dont see any need for the league rules to be changed }

Why the **** would people want to do that?

Ed003

even though they have come out and said it the fact that its taken so long IMO shows that they were waiting to see how people reacted to the idea. most people have seen the idea as the wrong way to go so they now come out and say they are against it as well. alot of clubs came out on the same day or the day after to say they thought it was a bad idea and its taken them a week. im sure if people were saying that scrapping relegation was a good idea that their statement would have supported it.

GMN {Ed003's Note - Tell you the truth I was more surprised somebody at Blackburn actually gave a response,their press officer is somewhat "missing" most of the time lol. It is a ridiculous idea anyway it would kill football imo,everyone loves those last day relegation dramas dont they ? }

That's right ed003.. Aslong as they aren't involved :0)

Myk {Ed003's Note - Very true,you swine lol }

Hi Ed where is Caught offside based as they seem to be VERY ANTI-LIVERPOOL their moderators allow people to say nasty comments about hillsborough and about the whole suarez/racist issue but when i tried to have my say, i was in no way being nasty i was just putting my point across that the idiotic people saying things about these issues were not worthy to walk the earth and my comments were not allowed on the screen by the so called moderators they are idiots and i feel let down by these so called human beings who have no compassion for that horrible remarks where we lost our 96 brothers and sisters

MJ {Ed001's Note - I have no idea where they are based, but they are just a bunch of kids making up stories anyway. Just don't waste your time with it.}

It depends who the writer of that particular article is, some of them which are written by LFC fans are very much in favour of LFC, but as Ed said they are just a bunch of kids paid in T-Shirts who make things up so I wouldn't believe everything they say...

maka

Really bad T-shirts too

After a little bit of digging, It's apparent that "Caught Offside" is owned by a company called "Tixdaq" who specialise in selling tickets for music and sports events.

They bought the site in 2009, must've been a nice little payday for the person who started it!

INDIAN SCOUSER {Ed002's Note - Coaching is a more viable opportunity and I would suggest you look at courses available in India. There is a structured approach to the coaching systems and qualifications that you could take on an as-and-when basis.}

There are 4 qualifications/ certificates that u need (I think it is 4, can't remember at the top of me head) I have got the first 2 but to get the others u need experience (I think) and a ridiculous amount of money. I did the first 2 when I was really young and the centre payed for them.

Just been sat working from home as per usual and had 'Radio five live' in background. Jeremy Vine had some mindless morons on today STILL claiming that our fans were at fault!
Massive dissapointment that BBC radio would allow this bile live on air.
Also if it's not already on here find epitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/19350 Disclosure of the Sxxn sources, 'the truth' articles. Let's not let McKenzie off the hook for his disgracefull conduct 22 years ago.
I will never forget how badly we were painted as fans after that day. I also cannot begin to imagine how the family and friends affected by the tradegy coped with this poisonous lying tabloid in the immediate days after their loss.
'Don't buy the Sxn' must be kept high profile forever more , but now is the time to turn the screw on McKenzie and his cronies. Make him disclose his so called ''sources" who we now know and have since Taylor, to be the SYorks police and others diverting blame from their own ineptitude and failures FACT.

Unfortunately only a court order could be used to force the s*n to name its sources, which can only be obtained through the courts, a parliamentary debate on the matter would achieve nothing.

Except maintain the profile and question his credibility further

the problem with the mancs is they have no class, never have had and never will have, so just humour their sad comments on here as they know who are the real kings of english football, hence the sarcasm.

Kings of english football? You as well as your club are cracked mate, when was the last time you won somethin? you will need more than Kenny~(as good as he is). You opted to not to play in the europa league last year, instead let spurs in so you could concentrate on the top four. You are ahead of spurs by 1 point, they have a game in hand and they beat you at the lane with ease. My advice is concentrate on qualifying for europe, and once you get there sell all your best players again! (torres, mascherano, alonso) Reina was only kept to keep up the price of club when selling it, what a joke. It will annoy you no end that yes i am a united fan, and proud of it. When talking royalty in football, there is none in Liverpool mate, face it and accept it.
PEACE

Ha I knew someone would pop up and prove the original poster to be spot on. :)

MIKEY

There you go point proved by post above manc fans have no class they even come on here to prove a point for us all to see no class

Deep Sigh! Jiminy Cricket

Its four seasons now , and Man U , have only a lucky lucky draw , to take from that time , thats why Fergie played for a draw , which is a huge complement to Liverpool F.C. the gap is closing fast , very fast . redforever

Mate if tht the case you got outclasses/outplayed yet your the best team in "england" as you point out we are only one point ahead of spurs but after the groups they will start to play the starting 11 which will then start to tire playing Thursday and Sunday so why dont you stop threating on what where doing and start threating about city on sunday when they go 5 points clear of you
jayblair89

The tribulations we've gone, the highs of famous victories over them, the larger-than-life players that have walked through our doors, the history of our famous club, our triumphs, our woes... all of these make our club, the Liverpool brand truly unique and one that brainless mancs cannot, and will never, understand

Ed,
Brian Clough is warmly remembered in football, and I loved watching his sides play.
But I know that he came out with some very poor statements about Liverpool fans after Hillsborough. Did he ever retract what he said about us ?
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - it was also a huge wound in his relationship with his son Nigel, who was, of course, a Liverpool player at the time. Not did he not retract what he said, but Stuart Pearce said similar things and also said them in his autobiography. It is a disgrace, because, as Pearce even pointed out before talking utter *****, the playing staff were completely in the dark and had no idea at all what was going on. Clough was an alcoholic, he was in no position to judge others, but at the time he was a bitter old man who was quick to assume. Shame because I had a lot of respect for him as a manager, still do for the way he got his teams to play and how he refused to allow them to dispute decisions with the referee.}

Me too ed. Our team was a juggernaut and for about two years could we **** beat them. But yes ed, all Liverpool fans should not forget what he said. Although, by then, he did have a problem with the drink. I've never read Stuart Pearce's book mate.
22 years ed. People have criticised Liverpool for having a 'victim syndrome' (whatever that is). But everyone's stuck together ed. The families, MPs, Bishop of Liverpool, fans. I'm not sucking up ed, but people like yourself - fans who have organised something to give people a say. They'll never break that mate. Even if it takes another 100 years to win the league, they'll never beat that.
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - it is just sad that people have used it as an excuse to have a go at the city of Liverpool, rather than admiring the way it has stuck together. Admiring the spirit that has seen it continue to fight for the truth a long time after most would have given up.}

It's a shame disputing the refs decision still goes on. Not a lot worse than seeing grown men hounding the ref over every decision like school kids

MIKeY {Ed001's Note - my pet hate, I would fine every player that did it 2 weeks wages for every incident that they argued about. I guarantee it would stop immediately!}

Clough did say in 2001 "I now accept the investigations have made me realise I was misinformed. I wasn't trying to be vindictive or unsympathetic, but my opinion has altered over the years. It was never my intention to hurt anyone." But after 12 years I think that is far too little far too late. {Ed001's Note - I had never seen that quote before, I never realised he had retracted his earlier comments. I wonder how much of it was to do with him being finally sober around this time?}

I agree completely. I don't see the point either as the refs decision is final. Just shows them up to be overpaid prima donnas and does the games image no favours at all. The players or perhaps the managers encouraging it need to grow up and act like real men. Have a bit of sportsmanship.
I would love to be a ref and just instantly red card every knob player who even looked at me the wrong way, refs need to stick up for themselves a bit.

MIKEY

I love the way ed said liverpool fans stuck together.ynwa

It was quite an emotional evening watching the debate in Parliament last night. Some very moving speeches from all parts of the House.
I was touched by the speech from the female MP for the Hillsborough area.
We can all welcome the unopposed motion to release all documents with minimum redact.
But I'm left with some mixed feelings after a night of thought.
I can't believe it's taken over 22 years (22 !) to get to this point. Probably most of the senior figures at that time have retired by now.
I still despise The Sun for what they did in the aftermath. I don't know if they can ever put right what they did. Disgusting, and this was rightly recognised last night too.
I was disappointed that the House was sparsely attended for the debate. Not one Party leader. And these, and many other MPs, are people that now profess to love the game and always have done. Cameron not being there somehow doesn't surprise me, but I am most disappointed that Ed Milliband couldn't show up. It was mainly his MPs constituents that were affected by that day. Milliband wouldn't recognise a football if it hit him between the eyes. Supposed to be the party of the common man. Old leaders like Harold Wilson f**n went to the match. Milliband probably hits a better croquet ball than a volley.
There was a Geordie MP who spoke briefly but powerfully of being in The Leppings when he followed Newcastle Utd, and suffered crowd congestion in there.
And it transpired that the ground, and others like it, were designed like that for the 1966 World Cup. I never knew that. They were probably the same crash barriers on the terrace too.
I am not ashamed to say that I cried last night. I cannot imagine what the families themselves have gone through and think now. I hope finally, for their sakes, this matter is put right once and for all.
The Real KB

Very well said, the real kb............lfc

Carragher Gerrard Suarez haven't travelled.

Spriggo

Oh now. They haven't travelled to your prestiga friendly against a team of similar european stature of late.....my apologies at Rangers were in the qualifying round for europe. Your bunch of muppets couldn't even get there!

Enjoy your friendly.

Our 'bunch of muppets' pushed the so-called top team in the prem to a hard-fought draw at the weekend, and would have been decent value for a win.

This a great chance to give international players like Coates, Agger, Wilson and Johnson some game time, and will be a very useful game.

And next season, muppet, we'll see you in the CL- if you make it.

Well for a so called bunch of muppets we outclassed the top team and it was a shame that our shots were not put away otherwise it would of been about 5-1 to the true reds (LIVERPOOL), United were very lucky to get the draw, but if LFC are muppets what does that make you seeing that you could not beat us...

MJ

Ha , whenever we beat man utd , the fans and fergie diveret the attention onto some thing else , like the ref or diving , sore losers , bad losers , the whole country knows it , including the united fans themselves , I reckon that man city will beat them at old tfafford , then what will they say !! redforever

URGENT MESSAGE TO UTD
please utd at least make it to the next stage in the champions leauge , its very important that we have matain 4 english teams in the compition , and this will help keep 4 places open for premership teams, o and before you say it will only maybe help liverpool in future , it could well be you that finish 4th in the next couple of years, so dont mess up anymore ,as you seem to be struggling at the moment and i am a bit worried about this as you look like the only english team that wont make it, well i will get out of here before mr jwalk comes on and gives it the old- o how the mighty have fallen , yak yak , minor insult , yak yak etc , lol.............lfc

Quality quote froma bunch of fans that are about to watch a pointless friendly. Try and qualify for europe next time you bunch of mugs.

hi ed, this person evra is making a big deal of racist remarks against suarez , he also had alot to say to suarez,if you can lip read. what happens in a game must be left in the game.he is just seeking attention.i dont believe suarez made racist remarks. sa red {Ed001's Note - if he feels that Suarez made racist comments to him, then he has every right to be upset and to do his utmost to see Suarez punished. Let's just see what happens, there is nothing to discuss about it right now, no one bar those two has a clue what was said.}

If Suarez is found guilty then he should be punished apropriately but if found not guilty then there should be serious questions to Evra's allegations and for me he should be punished in the same way.

After watching the Hillsborough debate i really hope these families are now able to get what they want after 22 long years.

I believe that these MPs really spoke from the heart. So eds when will these papers be released am i right in saying the start of next year.

I also hope Cameron apologises to these families he should do it one by one to the families and to there face. All these families have wanted is the truth surely that can never be too much for people that have lost loved ones.

Also these families have never gave up and they certainly inspire me and i am sure a lot of people.

Justice for the 96.

Mighty reds {Ed001's Note - they never actually revealed a dateline for the release, so it is impossible to be certain when it will happen. I would not expect it to happen this year though, the wheels of Government turn slow. My main worry is that there will be spurious excuses found to redact certain documents, I noticed Theresa May was already opening the door for that possibility with her speech. Signatures was one reason she claimed, but a signature can easily be removed or hidden from the documentation before release.}

Yeah ed I noticed that Theresa May, when questioned about the redactions, seem to imply that the gov wouldn't redact ANYTHING, only what the families wanted redacted.............but then she said, "I repeat, the gov will not redact ANYTHING...." and then mumbled under her breath "from those documents we release".

So what they aren't going to release all the documents then? I don't understand why she said that last bit. She wouldn't have slipped in that qualification if it wasn't important, she's an mp.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid, we'll see.
Until she said that I was actually really pleased by her stance, which seemed to be in complete agreement with the campaign.

Anyway, I have a lot of respect for ALL of those who stood and spoke, and also a lot less respect for those that didn't turn up.
I haven't seen the papers today, but I doubt there's the nationwide uproar warranted from the debate last night....
In fact i wouldn't be surprised if the Evra scam gets as much coverage in certain unnamed propaganda machines.

Still though this is a start at least, and if it gives the families any comfort at all then I don't care if the papers haven't had to BEG their forgiveness.........YET.
They'd better though, I want to see Rupert Murdoch PERSONALLY facing these people on his hands and knees, and even then I won't be happy until they've each been allowed to punch him in the face.
If sky want ratings, I GUARANTEE they'd bust the records with that.

Murdock will be dead soon. Light at the end of the tunnel.

hi guys,
I am an indian liverpool fan. i want to know the timing of todays match vs rangers.
thanks

7.30 British time mate.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

00:00 tonight for India!
Chopman

Thanx mate!

Blair.. Whats your predictions on the score later mate?

Adzii

4-3 or 4-2 Adzil mate. A free flowing, high scoring game, with plenty of changes by both sides. I hope Johnson, Agger, Coates and Gerrard all start. This is a great game to boost players fitness and play Coates from the start. I would also like to see Sterling, Silva, Suso all get a run out, but I think the club have said we are bringing a strong squad. So I don't think our kids will get a run out, but fingers crossed.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Yeah i agree Blair, would be nice to see half kids and half first team. Be a really good stepping stone for them. I'd love to see more of Tony Silva, hes been outstanding of late! Im going for a 4-1 win bud.

Adzii

I'm with you Adzil mate, I think Tony Silva has been our best player so far, in the NexGen conpetition.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I'd actually like to see the likes of Morgan and Sterling in the lineup. Would be great to see them in action!

hey ed what do u know about the abolishing relegation scheme

vivek12011

{Ed002's Note - It is a suggestion that periodically comes up but won't happen. I recall Phil Gartside raising it many years back. It is unclear how much support still exists for the idea.}

Nope, won't ever happen. Without relegation the bottom half of the table will become uncompetative thus affecting their performances against the top half teams in the latter stages of the season. Plus the excitement of a relegation scrap is most defo half the fun of the EPL. It's all about investers/new owners wanting to protect their investments & not lose a fortune via relegation. Folks, we won't ever let that happen, surely?

Will Dirk Kuyt leave??
Will lucas be sold??
Will Johnson have a future at Liverpool??
Who will replace them if they move on??
Is another striker, winger and attacking midfielder needed?? what about some of the youth and their part to play.

i know he may not have many friends on here or in football for that matter, but thank you to Joey Barton who made the trip to Westminister.

No one asked this man to, he went to show his support and to get justice for the 96.

Thank you.

JFT 96 {Ed001's Note - I find myself dubious over his motives personally, but I really don't care if he went for personal gain or not, the point is that he did. He bothered to turn up and show support while the likes of Cameron and Clegg didn't think it was important enough to bother.}

I suppose its only right that we are a little dubious over Joey Barton, especially considering his chequered past, but I agree with the Eds, at least he showed his support. Good on you Joey....your still a scouser at heart and it was nice to find out that you attended

tel1949

There was a time when I thought that Joey was just trouble , but you know what , the man is def a real man , a great scouser , who takes no crap from anyone , good man Joey Barton . redforever
