Cardiff have apparently told manager to resign or be sacked. Good new for the next game maybe. I wonder if they will make Craig Bellamy player manager?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed030's Note - doubt it mate, Would like to see it though. }

Usually a ''sacking'' has the adverse reaction.

Agree0 Disagree0

The whole thing is ridiculous. Feel for the Cardiff supporters and having to put up with arguably the worst owner I've ever seen. No worries though as I'm sure Tan has another relative he can appoint as manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with RDL. We've had our own rubbish owners and the whole thing is a complete nightmare. Hope they can force him out, we should show some solidarity with the Cardiff fans.

3 points on Saturday though :)

Agree0 Disagree0

A popular sacking has a positive effect on a team, an unpopular sacking like Mackay at Cardiff has a negative effect on a team and leaves the club in disarray.
Sad to see but if it helps us get 3 points on saturday then I will take it

hope the kop chant malkys name during the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Cardiff fans don't deserve that a*se of an owner, I remember their support for Hillsborough with their "these birds don`t buy the s*n stickers" showing the Liver bird and The Blue bird and the Hillsborough flame, respect. YNWA

With the current 'situation' at Cardiff I wonder if a bid for Gary Medel could be worth a shot, i'm sure Tan would like to recoup some of the money and £8m would be fantastic business for Liverpool.

Hey Ed, haven't been on in a while, was away on a coaching trip in Spain for the past few months. First of all i'd like to congratulate Brendan and the squad for this unbelievable start to the season, especially the Spurs game! Really optimistic about this season, all the players are really standing up to be counted, and that's exactly the type of team Brendan was aiming to have. I think were only 23 players short of a title challenge, a midfielder, winger and maybe a striker just to have the strength in depth to challenge. i'd also like to say a big well done to Joe Allen, Jon Flanagan, Jordan Henderson and obviously Luis Suarez. Were starting to realise the potential of the three youngsters especially. My question for you Ed, is the interest (and apparent agreement) for Mohammed Salah real or just a load of pony? Would be a great addition! Cheers Ed, really appreciate your time and effort.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is real interest - try the search function.}

Haha, only the twenty three players short?

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post but when first read I thought it said 23 players short ain't that a squad, take it meant 2 or 3 players

Agree0 Disagree0

Whoops, meant to say 2 or 3! 23 new players is a bit harsh on a team in 2nd! Sorry lads! Cheers,

Mitroglou just renewed his contract for

salah 99% nailed on for january, according to his team mate who just did an interview saying just that! i'd be ecstatic if we signed him, can play every attacking mid position, plus would add great pace to our attack, the guy is lighting!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Really? Great news if true as I also believe he is a great player who would add so much going forward. We're did u see the interview. LFC for life?

I am really excited this term with the form we are producing. My question is if we qualify for the Champions League will Mr Luis Suarez really stay?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he signs the new deal, it probably means he will move on for insane money.big question is what money will he be offered (new contract)is there any footballer in england should be paid more?can fsg fork out 200 plus grand a week.or will they give huge performance bonus.

While many on here are singing Suarez's name from the roof tops which is quite justifiable at the moment, we shouldn't forget how good Daniel Sturidge has been for us.

We are lucky to have 2 players both capable of scoring goals on a regular basis either together or by themselves.

They are both invaluable to our club and while Suarez is getting all the plaudits I'm sure if Daniel was fit he would be scoring just as many :-)

Let's hope we get top 4 and continue our steady rise back to where we all want to be while being able to keep our best players and manager.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Didn't Suarez overtake sturridge while playing less games? Sturridge would no doubt score goals but not at the rate suarez has been going.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haych:
still we can't forget that sturridge was scoring goals when the wee man was suspended,

Agree0 Disagree0

It's just a shame he keeps getting injuries. Otherwise we'd no doubt be the leagues top scorers.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a shame he keeps getting hurt but its also a shame everytime suarez scores first he gets totally greedy and won't pass to anyone unless he absolutely has to could be a top player but bad attitude as far as i'm concerned

Agree0 Disagree0

Its good to have to strikers who can cosistantly hit the back of the net

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge has been an absolute gem especially scoring that pivotal goal that broke manc hearts (got to luv it) but Suarez is Suarez

Just thought I'd ask to see what peoples views are on how we have progressed since the same time last year. Not just how many points we have but also about the way we are playing. We were saying we were in transition do you feel we are coming out of it and ready to compete. All views welcome even ozone's lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are certainly a better team, and we need to give big credit to BR for that. I feel we are still 4 top players away from being out of transition though.

I think we need a top class RB and LB - maybe young Ryan will be deemed ready for next year, but is obviously unproven.

CM is also in need of addressing. I'm personally hoping we try for Cabaye - would walk straight into the starting 11. We are crying out for a quality CM who can score goals. He's a tough bugger as well!

We also need, as everyone knows, a top winger and another quality forward. Maybe Salah (if he comes) will be awesome, maybe he'll need time to adapt.

If we can get a proven quality CM and a winger sorted in January then I'm optimistic about a top four finish. If we don't. I'm not sure.

The full backs can wait til the summer.

I'm dreaming of the champions league again though. come on BR and the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ye a strong mid and wide forward in jan, bring back the anfield champs league nights. Is there any players you feel we can sell?

We always say no one is bigger than the club.
Right now, does this apply to Suarez? What's everyone's opinion. Is it worth spend all the money
we get for a CL place keeping LS at Liverpool?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The best players earn the best money.

Messi
Ronaldo
Zlatan
Aguero

Suarez. if we judge him on his football, not his previous misconduct (which he is working hard to put right) he is WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes it applies to Suarez as well. He is not bigger than the club and will never be.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is just the best player at the club by a long shot

Agree0 Disagree0

Not bigger than the club
Has deserved a pay rise due to his performances.
We didn't do too badly when he was suspended and he didn't do much against Hull.

Summary: Great player reaching his peak over next 2-3 years. A contract extension would be a good thing for the club, but he needs a firm hand to keep him disciplined.

Just wanted to share my thoughts, I think Brendan is doing a fantastic job, and we are really seeing all his hard work come to fruition.

The players need a lot of credit for taking to his philosophy and working hard as well as being more effective at scoring.

I also think the owners are doing well. They become a bit vocal during the transfer windows but other than that they keep out of the news and it's only good for the club.

Sorry, am I missing something? If I remember correctly Flanagan did a great job vs Mirallas in the derby. Considering the amount of times they broke through our midfield I remember on numerous occasions he blocked out threats from Mirallas when Mirallas went out wide and tried to drift inside.

I am a MASSIVE fan of bringing youth through the ranks. I think Flanno, kelly, wisdom, etc will come through and perform for us eventually, and Flannos performance was great against a spuirs side I consider very average, but people need to stop getting hyped up about 1 performance.

Certain people are calling for flanno to start ahead of Enrique. This to me is rubbish. The lad is coming along well and has bounds of energy but his reading the game still needs addressing. He got truly torn to shred playing right wingback vs arsenal(It wasn't even competetive at times vs gibbs and cazorla. Mirallas constantly got past him vs Everton and he was caught out of position too high up.

(Hull city I never got to watch as I was away but I'm guessing he was either our 1 shining light or didn't perform like the rest of the squad)

Against Nowrich and Westham he didn't really put a footwrong and was composed on the ball.

Credit where credit is due he's done well vs teams I consider very beatable, however when the step up was required vs good teams with some world class operators he was found very much to be out of his depth.Calls for him to be picked ahead of Enrique are daft.

It's the exact same with Sterling, he grabbed a goal vs Nowrich but his decision making the entire game was atrocious, I mean ABYSMALLY BAD! He was apparently a complete no show vs Hull. People are asking How salah would start against Sterling?!?!?!? Sterling would be lucky to get 5 minutes off the bench vs Salah who forces teams deep and 2 player wide to take him out the game.

Can we please stop with all this 1 match wonder nonesense

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can you just not post anymore? Abysmally bad? What a daft comment. Sterling is 19 years old and is a creative winger with a lot of pace. He's going to make mistakes. Find something better to do than slate our players.

19 Dec 2013 14:19:18
wow, ok.
I appreciate the need for people not to go nuts over beating "an average Spurs side", but I think you're swinging too far into the other camp here.

Beating Spurs in the manner we did may have a bunch of mitigating circumstances (injuries to their back 4, european game earlier in the week, the red card) but at the end of the day, before that game anyone on here would've hoped for a draw and maybe steal a win by a one goal margin if we were incredibly lucky. So the result was and is a BIG result for us.

With many of the players you criticise i.e. Sterling you are basing these overall opinions of the bit-part they typically get to play when we have a full strength squad. And yes, Sterling was woeful and rusty a few games back but he seems to have picked up some decent tactical nouse and is a much better player for it. Likewise with Allen and Henderson, I've been really impressed how these players have stepped up when our key players have been out.

As for Flanagan, he's only really had a few games where I've questioned his quality, but his workrate is second to none. Was so happy for his goal at the weekend. I'd take him over Enrique as he can blow hot and cold, Flanagan also appears to put more of a shift in defensively, Enrique was too busy going forwards and putting an awful cross in.

At least the feel good factor lasted to Thursday, sometimes it sounds like people on here would rather the squad lose week in week out just to have something to write about. Things are going well at the moment with a few gifts on the horizon (city now getting a lot of injuries like us, Chelsea all over the place at the moment) so support the lads and leave the pessimism at home!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You need to register.}

As opposed to overstating a persons ability? He was abysmal in that game, and it's shocking how quick people forgot. I think the kids got bundles of talent, but he's not a 1st teams starter and to suggest he is is ridiculous.especially those saying if we get Salah, how's he going to fit in with Sterling there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think your wrong about flanno, he done a great job for considering he out of position and only came back to the first team, your being very unfair tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Without going too much into the tripe you have posted about Sterling or Flanno I will remind you that a squad is more than just the 11 players on the pitch. Salah will fit in just fine if he is signed and Sterling will still get game time. Now stop trying to make a name for yourself on this site with your crap and trying to be contraversial and just enjoy the ride we are on at the minute. Merry Christmas.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everyone's entitled to an opinion it is a banter site lads, the poster in my opinion isn't slating anyone, merely summarising a few performances. I'm a massive flanno fan and he's being doing very well, however, I think Enrique is a good left back as well he's more than capable of putting any right winger in his pocket and what's more by the time he's fit I think he will be needed as flanno is very young and we don't want burning him out either, in my opinion that other cisosoko lad is of no addition to anyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets get behind and support all the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Problem with Enrique as stated above, is that he is too worried about getting forward and putting in a cross (which is usually an abysmal one). I don't remember where I read it, but I am pretty sure Carra said after awhile he stopped even trying to communicate with Enrique on the field because he would do whatever he wanted to anyways.

Flanno doesn't do much spectacular in the final third, but he makes the smart play time and time again. And that is something Enrique should take note of.

I see everyone labelling Suarez as irreplaceable and that we need to pay him what he wants but may I just point out that our record without him this season in the PL is w3 d1 L1 and with him is w7, d2, L2, very similar performances. Yes he is a great player and I would like to keep him but he can be replaced.

I would also like to point out that he has been a part of 6 losses this season with both ourselves and Uruguay and in those he's only scored one goal in total and 0 assists. Does this suggest that he only plays well when the team plays well? Food for thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

State are not reliable because they do not say what teams we played while also not being a big enough sample to judge. I don't know why you're trying to think of excuses for not paying him that much because the guy is, at this moment in time the best player in the world in my opinion. And ofcourse when the team plays bad he is not going to be at his best his a magician not a bloody miracle worker.

Agree0 Disagree0

No, it suggest that when the team plays badly, he gets little service. Service tends to be quite important to a striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think anyone thinks it oils mean the end of the club, but anyone with a brain can see that he is our best ticket into the champions league. Not only that, but he can be just amazing to watch play. Of course he will be on the losing side now and again, and he won't play like he did against Tottenham every week, but he's great to watch and I'm delighted that he plays for us. Throwing some stats about doesn't reveal the obvious fact that we have a much better chance of winning with him than without him. When he goes we will hope we get someone just as good to replace him, but the longer we can get him to stay the better as far as I'm concerned.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2013 14:44:33
tut! and here's me thinking they wanted the team to get through to the next round. it could have something to do with being selfish, but if a player is in a better position to score and you pass to him you will be noticed and given your chance a lot quicker than trying to be Maradona(and failing)

Agree0 Disagree0

Barcelona have only lost one of their last 20 games without Lionel Messi.

Does that suggest that he's not a great player? By your logic it seems it does.

Agree0 Disagree0

It does suggest that Barca is quite capable of winning without Messi though, which is in fact the case and (I think) the point.

watching Sinclair tonight playing for the U18's looked to me like he was trying to make a reputation by trying to beat 4 defenders and score! all he succeeded in doing was blowing the attack! I do think he is a very talented player with the potential to be a top player, but he needs to get his feet back on the ground and remember it's a team game, apart from that well done beating a very good and determined Blackpool team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was the same with ibe. The thing with youth football is it isn't about the team it's about making it as an individual. Improving as an individual & progression as an individual & the best & quickest way to progress upwards is making the headlines in your team the team won't all move up to 21's only the star individuals so that's why players play for themselves

Great site & Frist time poster
However, if they want to secure fourth place - or perhaps (in the minds of their more optimistic fans) the title - then a few more decent reinforcements are needed in January.

Certainly their very successful strikeforce may at some point need some support to help take the strain, while Steven Gerrard is not getting any younger and consequently the midfield could do with some new faces.

You can see some of the players who have been linked in the press and online with a switch to Anfield.

1)Javier Pastore - Very impressive and highly rated as a youngster, the Argentine international's career has stalled slightly since his £40m move to PSG. With the French club pursuing Juan Mata, a move to Liverpool could help Pastore get his career back on track and secure his World Cup place. For Liverpool it looks like they could secure some top quality reinforcement fairly reasonably.

2) Will Hughes - Derby's teenage midfielder has been consistently linked with a move to Anfield. However despite Brendan Rodgers' penchant for nurturing young talent, the Liverpool manager has so far denied he will be making a move.

3)Michu - Last season's sensation has suffered slightly from second season syndrome but nevertheless he remains an excellent player. The Spaniard recently expressed an interest in playing at a higher level, could his signing help Liverpool secure a precious Champions League spot?

4)John Guidetti - On his way out of Manchester City in January, the promising youngster is a target of Rodgers and could flourish at Liverpool.

5)Ryan Bertrand - Left back has been a slight problem for Liverpool this season so Bertrand could be a good option for them. The Chelsea man has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and after turning down a move to Anfield in the summer, a lack of first team action might now have changed his mind.

6)Hakan Calhanoglu - Hamburg's young star has also attracted the attention of Arsenal but with the London side packed with a surfeit of high-profile attacking midfielders, Liverpool might prove an easier place for the Turk to establish himself.

7)Danny Ings - With Rodgers looking to reinforce his SAS strike partnership, England U21 international Ings could be in line for a January move. The Burnley hitman has 12 league goals so far this season.

8)Jorginho - With Liverpool wanting to ease the strain on ageing skipper Steven Gerrard, Verona's Brazilian Jorginho could be the man to make the move to Anfield with a rumoured £15m transfer.

9)Claudio Marchisio - With Juventus' early Champions League exit meaning the midfielder could be on his way out in order to recoup some money, Liverpool could swoop to pick up a classy long term alternative for Gerrard.

10)Konstaninos Mitroglou - The Olympiakos striker's exploits this season have alerted not only Arsenal but also Liverpool to a possible January move. Would help take the strain off Suarez.

11)Ivan Rakitic - The Sevilla man may have a rather off-putting €40m release clause but that allegedly hasn't put off Liverpool who are still keen on the Croatian.

12)Salomon Rondon - Reportedly a Liverpool target when Suarez's exit from the club seemed inevitable, Rondon could be on his way out at Rubin Kazan and Liverpool may well renew their interest in the forward.

13)Mohamed Salah - Scored home and away against Chelsea in the Champions League, the 'Egyptian Messi' is certainly on Liverpool's radar. A £12m bid is rumoured to be in the offing.

14)Ola Toivonen - The Swede is available on a free in the summer but Rodgers is said to be hopeful of taking him on loan before then. His versatility could prove handy at Anfield.

15)Kevin Volland - Liverpool are said to be one of five Premier League clubs after the young winger whose performances in the Bundesliga have impressed.
