I would love to see some of the young attacking lads from the academy have the odd run out, after all that is why we have one isn't it-to nurture, develop and bring them up to the right quality. Can't remember the last quality attacking midfielder or striker we gave a chance to since Owen, fowler, Gerrard.

In principle, I agree. That said, I have to believe that if there were an incredible youngster capable of playing on the first team and having an impact, then the coaching staff would have to be able to recognize that.

Not sure any are ready yet, Coady is the front runner in midfield and maybe Morgan up front, after his debut last season was expecting to see more of Robinson at left back but Enrique has just been so consistent.

19 Jan 2012 23:36:43
ed how good are our scouts? i really think we should invest in good scouts if we dont already have some,there are real gems out there in the world of football who wouldn't cost an arm or leg,we just need to unearth them..JG.. {Ed002's Note - I rather think that the scouting system for younger players has been doing well.}

I feel carrol shouldnt be given any stick because all he has been feeding on are scraps! Now gerrard has came back he has been getting more service but the poor lad should be gettin this off other players.. lets get behind him because im sure he will come good! Things are in place for great things for liverpool and what people dont realise is that we still have 5 players that are on high wages and still with liverpool at present or on loan aswell... in the summer this will free up money and this is when we will bring in young players that are regarded as special talent or players that want to play for the club! Look how far we have come in 12 months! So what if we dont sign anyone this window? Jan is a bad time in my opinion anyway! We will not rush in to buys like we used to and be more patient, as we are showing at the moment and buy players that we are confident that will slot right in like suarez did! Sick of alk this doom an gloom! Infact come on lads any songs made up about carrol that can be sung at the game? Lets get behind our power house number 9! Thankyou and good night :)

Bootle Rob

Agreed. Although it's hard to tell from watching on TV, seems to me that Anfield has been awfully quiet as of late...

How about the Neil Diamond classic Sweet Carroll-9
kidmillions

Agree i was anfield for the newcastle game 28th december and for most of the first half the newcastle fans were alot noisier ,could just hear liverpool players getting slated from the fans ,nearly everyone on them ,sumtimes its sad to sit at a game and hear our players getting slate d

Newcastle fans are the best in the land man... no disrespect but you were suposed to be at home and even when you were winning we were still singing... what has happened to the Kop?? Come on Liverpool fans, I was shocked at the atmosphere, not heard anything like it since I went to the Villa... and they are BAD

Hello Mates,

Macca stated in his last update: "Don't expect any major signings."

so i think this is the biggest take away - not whether a 19 yr old from inter comes in on loan or not.

a 19 yr will not change our fortunes. however, Henderson, Carrol and Dowing hitting form will do us a world of good (also johnson playing right mid and kelly at RB - but that aint happening).

So hoping for better quality from the recent buys more than from new signings tbh.

Walk on,
Barnes' Left Foot

No offence to Sir Macca but hasn't Dalglish said this from the outset? Dalglish has said our activity in this window will be minimal, only Academy players coming in really... Of course if someone becomes available then that changes things a bit but highly unlikely.
I think the summer gives us better options and better quality players, i'd rather we saved the money til the end of the season and see where we finish in the league. If we finish in the top 4 and win a cup, that'll be an unreal season for me.

Rocky

We wont finish in the top4 with the current squad, unless downing, carrol n adam step up, which seems highly unlikely.

19 Jan 2012 23:23:08
Liverpool need to by now to get champions league football then they can attract bigger players in the summer.

YNWA

The problem is there isn't much quality out there at the moment, we shouldn't just waste more money on average players and just wait til the summer. We have a good enough squad to get us 4th place, we can beat any team on our day.

Rocky

Imagine if we signed both teixeras guys... it would get confusing... want them both though!
i am perfectly happy with the skill of our team... it's the attitudes they have that is ticking me off.. now that they are top tier you can't slack off!

Hey ed and reds, this is a off topic thing, I was just wondering if any of you had any story's of trying to see Liverpool play for the first time? Mine was when I was 8 or 9 my dad was taken me to my first game against everton at least 13 years ago and the game was called off water log pitch, then we tried to get the replay but the boat from Dublin couldn't sail because of rough sea talk about the tears I shed, so my second game was against Newcastle and it got called off too princess diana died I thought I'd never see them and couldn't get the replay of that as it was a mid week game, 3rd time lucky I finally seen Liverpool play against psg in the cup winners cup we were 3 nil down from the first leg but won 2 nil on the home game which was my first game at last, has anyone or the eds have any storys off there first game cheers DES {Ed001's Note - I remember the day Di died being frustrating, that was due to be the last home game before I moved down south for work. I was really looking forward to it after the previous two had both been fantastic and finished 4-3. I was gutted when it was postponed just because she died. My first game I was just a kid and we lost, when I got home I wasn't allowed my tea because I was a Jonah! On the walk home my uncles were blaming me the entire way.}

Come on ed why post stuff like this it's of no interest like. Dave {Ed002's Note - It may well be of interest to some. If you find it disturbing or upsetting then just skip over it.}

Youre a plonker Dave. Good stuff lads!

My first Lfc game was Spurs at White hart lane . I was going to England for the first time as a 13th birthday present. We went to London to see my Aunt and they said we should try to go to a Spurs match. To my delight they just happened to be against Liverpool. We were obviously in the home section and I remember my cousins not being pleased by my wearing my Liverpool top and scarf, they kept covering me up. 'Razor' Ruddock scored that day..for Spurs, as did Nayim with a 40 yard goal of the season contender volley. It was during the frustrating Souness days with obscure mediocre (and awful) Scandinavians in the team alongside the new Scouse prodigies and legends like Ian Rush. I was pretty sickened to hear and read years later of the lack of passion and professionalism which crept into the club around that time and later under Evans . At that time I'd be devastated when they lost but there were players in the team who didnt really care.

19 Jan 2012 22:43:19
Big game saturday. We will obviously dominate, and without Cahill we should have our best chance at nipping a goal. Most teams have slaughtered them, so asking for a 1 - 0 without their top defender can't be asking for too much. Can it?

Carroll with winner (fingers crossed)

Nipping a goal? if we dont hammer them then I really fear we will have no chance of 4th, its looking grim as it is. Tough games coming up we need a big win on Saturday.

All i want is for Carroll to start with Downing on the left, give Andy a few touches, get his confidence up, then he'll start to attack the ball.

19 Jan 2012 22:41:58
This is what Macca said..
"All i am willing to say is if nothing goes wrong the player from Inter will sign.."

"IF nothing goes wrong"!
if the Castaignos deal collapses something has gone wrong. Macca didn't say he's nailed on to sign so don't give him any stick.

Cheers

Exactly! I appreciate his info either way people shouldnt take it as a dead cert unless he says so!

Square tomato

Complete rubbish. He got it wrong and its all guess work

Would the Eds believe his credibility if he was just guessing?

19 Jan 2012 22:38:59
It's quite obvious how we are gonna go about this transfer window. Last year when we bought Caroll, Comolli gave an interview explaining it. He said that because we lost Torres we looked at our future targets and brought them forward I.e Caroll. Liverpool knows exactly who they're interested in, so all this nonsense about huge players signing who appear to be unhappy somewhere, players who apparently love the club signing and pele putting his boots back on for us is rediculous. My point being is that I don't think anybody knows!

19 Jan 2012 22:23:29
we just need someone to be in the right place at the right time and someone that can score goals for fun.

19 Jan 2012 22:12:27
From the statements by Dalglish, I suspect the owners have realized how tough getting into top 4 really is, and have told Dalglish that it is not an 'ultimatum'. They are in it for the long run, and will spend wisely from here on out. That likely means there will be no activity until the summer and we do our best until then. This makes the most sense from a fiscal perspective. We would no doubt have more money if we make the CL, but I am also sure the owners and Dalglish know, that splashing millions on transfers in January guarantees nothing, with a significant possibility of no CL football and millions wasted.

Hope I am proved wrong, but if you think about it, it makes the most sense.

Post makes sense.

Not quite a rafa rant but we need to put things in perspective.
Not one post on this site has said we do not need another striker : I am sure kk and dc know this as they are paid to know this

Both Blackburn and Bolton have scored more PL goals than us and the former have just signed a striker on loan !!

Let's put the home form into perspective.
Step 1 - make Anfield a fortress again. A place where away teams will hate to play, they will come with no expectation of winning. We are unbeaten at home and the way Stoke and others have played recently shows Step 1 is nearly complete

Step 2 - work on converting the draws to win - I know I has been frustrating but the number of chances created and the number times we hit the woodwork shows we are not far off

Step 3 - take kuyt off the wage bill and the new striker we need will arrive.

Note : Steve Clarke and kk do not play the 2 winger system
Expectation is that there is enough cover to allow Johnson. And Enrique to bomb forward and create the crosses but most of our new game is based on possession football and playing through the middle.

Sc and kk have been around football long enough to realise that there is no electrifying quick trickster playing on the right wing and every villa fan will tell you that downing is not known for his speed nor his ability to run at defenders and take them on - he is just a tidy wide midfielder happy to drift left or right - keep the ball/possession rather than take a risk he will rather keep the ball and pass sideways or backwards

I am not even going to begin to tell you about the issues about Carroll - will save that for another post

Reading that again I may have been a bit harsh on Bellamy but like kuyt for me both are makeshift wide-men - they really are strikers
Spurs and United play the classic 4-4-2 with natural wingers. Our style is more akin to Man City and Chelsea- hence why find it easier to beat them !!!

19 Jan 2012 21:39:33
Everybody jumping on the band wagon that Coustaignos won't be sold because he's playing tonight then. Didn't Torres play a few days before deadline day last January... just saying. Not even suggesting we were looking at him, but theres no way you can say any potential deal is 'off' because he has started tonight!

A question for one of the LFC eds please,
This new lad, Tex..what's his name.
I read a post earlier on today where he outshone Suso in a NextGen game.
Does he play in the same position as Suso and is he gonna hinder Suso's progress potentially ?
They're both a similar age aren't they, so is the town big enough for the both of them !?
The Real KB
ps forgive the ignorance but you're talking to a non-sky, non-FM12 and non-Xbox blahdey blah punter here. {Ed001's Note - I have only seen him play as an attacking midfielder, but he wasn't really the same type of quick passing midfielder that Suso is. Hence why I think him and Suso could be a decent partnership in the middle, with a big, strong defensive mid alongside them. He is more of the short, sharp passing style, while Suso is more expansive with his passing, from what I have seen of the pair. Plus he does seem to have the ability to ghost past a man with the ball at his feet.}

Thanks ed. Sounds like we could have two real 'uns there then. They're both 18 / 19. Loan deals surely beckon in the near future?
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - possibly, I think one will be in and around the first team next season, though a lot depends on Shelvey.}

I'm salivating at the prospect of the pair of them in 5 years!

Ash

Would you say Texeria's style, is in the same mould as Xavi, Pirlo and Deco, Ed mate? I think Suso's style, is more like Iniesta, Hazard, Silva etc. He's just as comfortable playing on the wings, as he is the centre. Were Xavi, Pirlo and Deco are players, who like to sit in the centre and dictate, the pace of the game with their short sharp passes.

I know these kids would probably not be as good as any players, i've mentioned. But these are the 1st players that came to mind, whilst reading your post mate.

Thanks

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - whereas I would say Suso is more of a Xavi, someone who looks to play passes first and foremost, unlike Iniesta who likes to dribble as well as pass. I would say, from what I have seen, which is only the videos of this season's NextGen games, that Teixeira is very much the Iniesta, Silva type of player, someone who will play the pass or run with the ball.}

If they both end up like those two. I'd be at the top of the world, for sure. I hope, they have a bright future, here. YNWA

19 Jan 2012 21:28:54
Watching Lfc TV and they were talking about transfer and they advised everyone can only speculate, the only people who actually know who we are chasing are a handful of trusted people. Even KK's son hasn't got an idea. So people keep guessing and speculating. One thing is certain we will be getting a striker

evening eds fellow reds . just read on earliar post suarez to real madrir 29million . i take that is for a signed photo ........cheers psv

19 Jan 2012 21:07:24
I saw a recent post about wanting to get people like RedTurk, Ozone and 5 Gold Stars blocked.
Tbh (and this will shock you) I couldn't disagree more! The Banter page wouldn't be banter with out a few one celled organisms to bring our average IQ down would it ;)

What i'm trying to say, is I'd miss the arguements and intense discussions.. Maybe in a few years Carroll will be a 20 goals+ a season striker and we can all say I told you so, or maybe not and we can admit we were wrong with dignity. Whatever way it goes, i'm just proud to say i was part of the fanbase that supported our players so long as they wore the shirt.

You'll Never Walk Alone as long as you cheer the team on on match day, and I suppose they deserve to voice their opinions as much as we do. Perhaps our faith in Dalglish has blinded us to the fact some of his signings might not pay off, but in the famous words of Bill Shankly "Yes Roger Hunt misses a few, but he gets in the right place to miss them". Ring any bells?

YNWA! (Adam)

What about Ash as well, might as well bung em all n together.

No because Carroll has the positional sense of a Gnat.

Adam good post spoilt by bile at beginning

Agreed with Adam.
I like to read views from regular posters of all persuasions, who have the gonads to put their names to what they say !
The Real KB

There is no need to drag Ash into this.

Ash

I agree we need abit of everything....but people like disney (aka sydney, manc fan and total gob shi*e) too many people for my liking posting as 'liverpool fans' who clearly are not!

I read this site daily, ours is the most active page so we get loads of roaming fans which for me really pis*es me off. I would not mind but most of these gutless t-pots don't sign there posts and get .... how can i say.....the younger posters to follow their bs (a bit like the media).

Anyhows I love to see the posters who are more 'on the ball' and can remember the last few years (too many) of us being 'sleeping giants'.... we will soon awake, but still I read far too much dribble about Henderson being crap etc........Once we click just wait and see, I think we are going about things correctly and I for one am more than happy with LFC all thing considered!
K79

Its a democracy is it not. Perceived unpopular views and opinions are important, as they provide perspective to any argument.
Otherwise it would be one-sided and dull.
We have to "Agree to Disagree!!".
Food for thought.

I just feel as if all the decent players are getting snapped up as we wait as per usual am just hoping that we dont end up panic buying at the end of the month id try get hoilett or sinclair and bent that is kind of player we can attract at the moment id love samba

19 Jan 2012 20:50:44
i dont get why ADIDAS? would say what they are supposed to have said about the results ect "on the pitch"
either way you look at it would be bad for business for adidas
it must be a tender process ?
they lost and warrior won .

True but sadly they have a point.topve tree in their game, are we?Despite that fact its just sour grapes in business

They are sulking. They (Adidas) have had their nose pushed well out of joint and other teams may start to play them off against Warrior as and when their contracts end. RED LENIN

I agree Adam, no-one should be banned. I'll tell you a little secret mate, RedTurk is one of my favourite posters. But the negativity/criticism after our 1-0 win away to City, was confusing?

Ash's comments are always good to read imo.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ps. Don't tell anyone what I said about RedTurk mate. I'll be banished or sent to Coventry, thanks.

Cheers Blair, and the same to you! In fact there are only 2 posters I don't like on this forum, but guys on the other side of the fence shall we say, like you and KB I do appreciate!

Ash

Sorry, my last post was in response to Adam's post about, not banning people.

But I totally agree RedL, it is sour grapes from Adidas. And it looks like, we've done very well from this deal.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Is it true we will be getting 300 million frm warrior sports over the next 5 seasons? Cud potentially pave the way for KK to sign some foreign superstars.
Indian Buzzer

So happy to get rid of Adidas. Their shirts look just like they did in the 1970's; and each team shirt is the same design in a different color. What a joke.

Nike have eaten their lunch; Warrior will eat their dinner.

Canny Kenny defintely has something up his sleeve...the calm before the storm lads... this time next week the rabbit will be firmly out of the hat. Don't you worry..., there will be no "star" signing as such but he will try to get a certain player in and he will be add something different.

Der Red

Dear Der Red,

Will said certain player certainly circumvent our situation and certainly convert chances and rapidly react outrageously to the mass mobile marvellous support suspended for such a stupifying situation?

Jolly Red

The certain player will be brought in to play advanced between the lines, will freshin up attacking ideas in the final 3rd and add goals... without Maxi, Suarez, or Meireles the intricate passing / intelligent movement that we saw in the first 6 months of KK's rein is lost. KK will bring in an intelligent player to go with Gerrard, Suarez and Maxi as they along with Johnson are the only footballers we have that are capable of playing with attacking intelligence. (Enrique, Agger and Adam are all good attacking players at times but not constant threats in the final 3rd).

Der Red

Yes I agree , KK is def being canny , I think this player coming in , will be from Blackburn ,

19 Jan 2012 20:47:53
i think that from what has been said there will be one eye opening signing and then a steady trickle of kids. if we sign the two teixera i would rate both as reserve team players with massive potential (lisbon one looks like being bargain of the year).i heard from rory donnelly agent that he was offered terms from us but chose playin assurances over us.he also told me that sterling was in the changing room before stoke match `to get used to match days ` the feeling is that he will be in the squad of nineteen from now on pushing towards the bench etc etc.i think the policy will change and we will all get what we want ,to start to see some of these kids coming through as an option to our overpriced overpaid recent signings as they deserve it and its about time that we brought through some of our own.

19 Jan 2012 20:46:38
Let's face it, Kenny has said several times this week that the senior squad will be having a quiet window so all this debate is presumably pointless. I bet we sign no-one and all spend the rest of the season dissapointed and frustrated.
Negative....blah....lol

Just in from work and absolutely made up to read that the Kevin Williams e-petition has reached the 100,000 signatures.
Please recognise that Kenny Dalglish actively came out and spoke up and supported this.
In this day and age of the trend for the ever-younger 'go-getter' manager..to have a manager like Kenny who lives and breathes Liverpool FC.
To me, the man is hark back to the spirit of Shankly, Paisley and days gone by, but for all the right reasons.
As an older fan, I just cannot get my head round the way things are these days. ****ing booing the team after a draw, coming on here saying sack him.
I don't know. I wish the eds would **** off all the anonymous no marks that come on here and say such stuff.
But hey ho, that's entertainment.

All the 'rumours' seem to be from the papers.
The same papers who said we were selling
AC for 10mil to Newcastle... It's impressive
that we've got them guessing in the dark, I'm
sure KD and DC have a right laugh reading
some stories! But if Newcastle can sign cisse
with no1 catching on til last minute, lets just
hope some of our targets are available and
affordable!
Any new news on any probable transfers ed?
And not just Liverpool. {Ed002's Note - Nothing new.}

No chance carr is a legend... other teams scouts have reduced themselves to following him and his team around to try and see which players they are after. They are off to easten europe next to scout there, expect new signing in the summer from there!

Noticed a few people have slated Rafa slightly. I think that he has been our most important manager in recent years. He has won us 1 Champions League (Yes, it was with Houlliers team, but it must have been some team talk he gave at half-time!).
He has also made some crucial signings for us such as: Torres, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Reina & Alonso. Obviously, between them the sales of Torres & Alonso have gained us around £80m!

And lets not forget his excellent support with the Hillsborough campaign! A true legend. YNWA Rafa!

Cheers, Conor.

Houllier's team but you can't underestimate Garcia's or Alonso's input in the tournament which helped us get to and win the cl.

Cnt remember alonso or garcia in houlliers team?
jaylair89

Plus it was Rafas team selections, tactics and training throughout the tournamount that won it.

Rafa will always be a true red to me and we should be grateful for everything he did in his era.

Soon we will be reaping the rewards of the youngsters he signed us, who are raved about on this site over and over.

Just read this post .who put the resevre team coach in the club and they are quality now ,suso can be as good as alonso, xavi cesc f .if you get chance have a look at resevre team looking very good .one of rafa men.cheers psv

Any1 else notice the defence kenny was about to put up when asked about texieria? But then when it was said Joao texieria he let his defence down then revealed intrest? Am I looking too much into it?

Think you onto sumin there? hhmmmm

I said the same thing 10 minutes earlier. Great observation skills mate... not.

19 Jan 2012 19:14:54
Hi guys/eds, have any of you seen Kenny's presser from earlier today?

They were talking about Joao Teixeira, and Kenny confirmed interest, but he seemed tight lipped as to which Texeira/Teixeira the reporters were on about. He didn't want to say anything before they established which player it was. And said something a long the lines of, "I thought you were on about someone else then". For me this shows there's something going on behind the scenes. Just a personal opinion i thought i'd share.

Cheers

I'm getting REALLY scared now there is no way we gonna get champions league unless we buy quality not good for nuffin any Carroll if anyone gonna buy who's mite come eds??

What? Were in the fight for champions league with the other top 6 teams get scared when theres a few games to go and were in the same position.

To be realistic, I don't think we are going to see a lot of movement unless its down to the final days. They've been working on a lot this month with the Stadium plans, kit plans, etc.
At the same time, the Euro is this summer, bigger players that are playing well right now won't want to start playing for a new team. Llorente, for example, will not make any moves until the summer.
For Llorente, Villa is injured, and Torres' form is not there...he wants that starting role.
Podolski has already said he is not leaving due to the Euro's. He wants that starting role.
Defoe, said the other day he is happy at White Heart Lane.

The only thing I see happening this January is amping the Youth and Reserve Squad. They are thinking a lot about the long term.

If something big happens...I'll be excited! But not expected a lot this January. Will wait until the summer, we just need that spark!

hi guys great website. this weekend is a must win for us. if we either lose or draw this match, then top 4 is gone for us. we have drawn too many home games against teams that we should be beating. Also this is a great chance for us to close the gap on the 4th place because the other teams have got hard games. if we don't win this week then we have no chance. also what baffles me is that if we can beat chelsea, arsenal, man city etc away, then surely we can win against bolton. What do u guys think?. Thanks and ynwa.

People, people! Calm down!

I posted yesterday about the bright future we have, and tday i'd like to point out some more short term positives.

This season hasn't gone as planned obviously. Reason being:

Carroll & Downing are on bad form
Suarez has been banned
Lucas & Gerrard have had bad luck

That is five of arguably out most creative/influential players basically missing. Can anybody actually remember these 5 starting a game together? You'll be hard pushed because it hasn't actaully happened.

Carroll and Downing will hopefully come good.

Gerrards return will be a massive boost. He is like a £50m signing.

Suarez will be back and finally get to play a run of games alongside Gerrard

When Lucas returns next year, we will be complete again.

So why cry for the owners to waste money now to cover positions due to injuries. Bellamy has stepped in for Suarez and actually done better! Spearing has stepped in for Lucas and been adequate. If we sign a big name striker and a big name holding midfielder, we will end up with another massive wage bill for a squad far to big, in which no players can hit good form because there are simply to many of them to all get involved.

We are definitely one striker short due to Kuyts inability to fill in due to his age. On top of this we don't really have a proper right winger. Other than that we're missing nothing in all honesty.

Ask yourself this; are there many right wingers for sale at this moment in time for a reasonable price?
I think you'll find there's not. There are lots of strikers about who are good enough to serve as back up or compete with Carroll, but the only one interested is off to the ACON (Sow).

Why panic buy now, when we could wait till the summer and get a better player for half the price.

People are moaning but last January we didn't atually make one signing until deadline day. All we really need this year is an experienced, pacey striker to come in and force the current strikers to compete for a place, and possibly a creative player also capable of running the right flank.

Defoe is actually a good option. He scored goals everywhere he goes, would be open to a move i'm sure (despite what he told sky sports; no player is going to say "yeah, i fancy leaving!") and wouldn't cost as much as a player like Bent.

As for a creative player well who knows! I'd love to see Matthew Jarvis, but he isn't for sale and we have no interest as far as I know. However Macca seems to think we are interested in a young player from Inter Milan. Could possibly be Coutinho, as he didn't actually say it was a striker. Everybody just put 2 and 2 together and got 5.

To summarise, we have a very good squad, and once everybody is fit and the players have had time to gel, it is capable if reaching the top 4 this year with one or two minor additions. You just have to be patient people.

We are mainly looking at youth this January from the looks of things and to be honest, is it ever to early to build for the future?

Congratulations on the e-petition success people, and congratulations to Liverpool Football club for securing a record breaking Kit sponsorship deal with Warrior.

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed019's Note - I agree on everything except Defoe ;)}

I don't understand everybody's views on Defoe yes he's 29 and not suited to fsg transfer policy but c'mon him or no striker at all this window.
i agree he's not worth 15-20 mill but id buy him for 7-8 mill if it means we have a better chance of getting into the top four and adam is right he's scored goals everywhere he's been.
skurks

Its cool Ed ;) i wasn't suggesting Defoe as my preferred choice, but with recent speculation, and the need for a player similar to him i just thought I'd use him as an Example. Thanks though.

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed019's Note - OK it's cool ;)}

Sorry but to say downing and carroll are part of the 5 of our most creative players is complete nonsense, they are part of the problem we are not competing, to spend £35 mil on carroll and £ 20 mil on downing is awful business which liverpool simply couldn't afford to do, i suppose if carroll wasn't so average maybe downing would looked alot better, but im sick of some people saying carroll needs better service, did we really spend £35 mil on a player jus to stand in 1 spot, no movement and poor control and jus to head the ball? we should of bought peter crouch, better option.RedTurk

I'm sorry RedTurk, i was under the impression I also mentioned influential in that sentence. Carroll isn't creative no, but being the spearhead to our attack, I'd say that makes him very influential, and he can be a match winner as proved last year for Newcastle, and even us on rare occasions. Downing is very creative when on form, which i'm pretty sure I stated he wasn't on.

RedTurk, along with a few others, you are one of those whom I have come to ask myself "Are they really a Liverpool Fan?"
Fair enough, slate Carroll for his form, but don't be blinkered enough to say he was a waste of money. Any body with a football brain can see he has potential. It just has to be relaised.

Learn to read before you spout abuse next time.

YNWA! (Adam)

Adam because i question some transfers does not make me any less of a fan than you, i simply don't wonder blindly. Andy carroll was most definately a waste of money for £35 mil, if you think not thats your opinion but if you try watching the games he's in, then you can see his touch is awful, control awful, heading has'nt been good at all, passing has been pretty poor, hes not worth anymore then £3-5 mil, surely peter crouch must be worth more? good control, great technique, good scoring record, good head.RedTurk

Adam- Did you know Carroll was valued at a million whilst in the championship?Teams like Stoke were sniffing around him 6 months later we re in for 35 that's ridiculous.Lfc were a bit of a laughing stock for that one work mates crucified me.Yeah he s having a tough time but he s not worth that amount and never will be, he may be of some use to us in the future but overall a terrible bit of business. I think your a bit off the mark about him being the spearhead of our attack when he s lucky to make the starting XI even with Suarez out. Gerrard is fantastic no doubt, but 31 and cant be an inspiration forever. One more season I reckon. Lucas a big miss but a big name defensive mid could finally allow Lucas to play his natural position of attacking mid and maybe the new Gerrard? Defoe would be a terrible move I reckon Kenny thought Carroll and suarez, big man little man would work. It hasnt so lets build around suarez and buy someone to play off him a higuain or someone of that ilk. Henderson was a gamble that i cant see paying off he will never reach the heights of his price tag.A right winger desperately needed. Our defence is tight we just need two big names to complete the squad and be challenging the big boys again YNWA

Peter Crouch at 29 years of age is in his prime, and isn't much better. Carroll, being a target man, is at least 3-6 away from his best years and is already almost scoring as many as Crouch. I don't think Carroll was worth £35m. I think his potential is. Dalglish clearly agrees with me, and do you have a premier league title under your belt?

YNWA! (Adam)

Adam what games have u been looking at. how many times do u have to see andy carroll playing. he has no first touch he has no positional sence he has no potential he is the biggest waste of money ever. and if u cant see that then u havent got a clue about football. he is not worth 2 million fact.

THE BIRD

Liverpool have never won the premiership adam what were you saying about learning before you spout?

"At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques"
Bill Shankly.

YNWA! (Adam)

I never said Liverpool have a premier league title. I said Dalglish does. And he does, 1995 with Blackburn Rovers. If you didn't hide behind an anonymous post you'd be wishing you could delete that now.

YNWA! (Adam)

So whats your point adam? it is possible that kenny could of signed a few overly priced duds? ofcourse it is and he has, simple fact is if they can't improve you move them on, otherwise they bring us down to there level, ther is 1 thing supporting the players but if they can't improve they have to go, thats what seperates top teams from mid table 1s, when they see the weaknesses they change it.RedTurk

I agree with Adam, Carroll is young for a target man and £35million, so what? Veron cost United £28m. Shevchenko cost Chelsea £30million. Torres set Chelsea back £50million. They were all flops and old. Carroll isn't and has plenty of time to become good.

Not supporting carroll or the others. I just want to mention as has one of the eds. Carroll is going through a massive fitness project his levels were very short of what liverpool expect and I suspect its the same for all the new boys. You can see carroll looks tired and I think its having an effect on his strength and game, again mentioned by the eds. Possibly this is why his first team appearances have been limited and kenny knows this. I ask give him time to adapt next yr he will do well. J.canada

Personally I thought we would of all
Learned our lesson about slating players who we think aren't good enough.
I will freely admit that I gave Lucas alot of stick, I didn't think he was up to the job and he made me eat my words. I will never question a manager again. I know a lot of you think kenny doesn't know anything about football but to be honest i would rather trust his judgement over yours (you all know who you are) he's a legend for a reason.
If you can't support us when we lose or draw don't support us when we win.

Man united and man city are just up the road feel free to jump on their band wagon but don't crawl back to us when the ship starts to sink.

Ashy

For those who claim that the likes of Cavani,Hazard,Hamsik etc will not want to sign for us.Wake up people! We are LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB one of the greatest team in the world. They all want but we can't afford their transfer fees and maybe wages. But if you want quality you need to offer high wages.I know you will say that we need players who want to play for us but look what we bought with large fee and low wages(Carrol,Downing,Henderson).Sorry for my English

my prediction for this year will be that liverpool will miss out on 4th spot. it will be like the 1990's when kenny tookover and we nearly won the prem but came short

Kenny wasn't manager when we were first in the Prem.

Sooty

Hmm somehow i dont see the resembalance, missing out on the title and not being able to finish in the top 4? RedTurk

Kenny took over in 1985 and we won the league and cup double.
Get your facts right and people might take you seriously

Hmm somehow i dont see the resembalance, RedTurk and a Liverpool fan?

19 Jan 2012 18:30:46
I Dont think Kenny will buy any player in this transfer window.

So I want to ask ED what would be the transfer budget of liverpool in summer and according to you in how many positions we require players(just your opinion) {Ed019's Note - There is no 'budget'. And I think we need a Striker, Attacking Mid and Winger}

I can not predict any arriving though. All our targets are going fast

Finally, an Ed that know his stuff- those are exactly the sort of players we need!

Agree with Ed 19.

How about a cheeky £6M bid for Arshavin now i know he has been out of form lately but the lad has skills?

Do you even understand football? The pimple on my bottom is better at football than him.

Bet you didnt say that last season when he put 4 past us,

Berba's put a few past us over the years and i don't rate him either.

Red7.

19 Jan 2012 18:23:35
We need a goalscorer and its obvious we are not gonna be splashing out big bucks so why not go and get Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes he is only 24 and has a very very good goalscoring record fair enough a lot of you will just say its in League 1, but Kuyt and Carroll can't hit a barn door so for what £5m maybe £7m he would defiantly be worth the risk and also fits in with our new transfer policy.

BigD

Isn't he 21

The Southern Red

Sori Southern Red i ay to sure how old he is but he would be a very good buy and cheap.

BigD

27 goals so far this season, age 21, english, got pace, right attitude, would be keen to impress and for poss £6million, I'd go for him! Could be worth a punt. He obviously knows where the goal is. 27 goals at any level at this stage of the season is impressive. Ste.G

Sorry I meant to say brirish, not english.

Cant believe how little faith you people have in King Kenny. The man is a legend and gives everything to the club. give him time. The last thing we want is another Hodgson or someone ridiculous. Have faith in the King. Who needs a Sir when we have a King.

I have faith but you can't have blind faith and yes kenny is a legend but lately his tactics have been wierd to say the least, because he's showing teams to much respect especially at home that line up on sat against Stoke was shocking cheers pk

Its not only about the faith.
Every fan is aware about the crises of goal.
And its time that kenny can assure fans by signing at leat one striker...........

The tactics against stoke were fine we were just missing that clinical edge up front which is something we have missed all season we dominated stoke and all these negative posts about bad tactics. Teams are coming to Anfield and shutting up shop playing 10 men behind the ball and hoping to catch us on the break even the big teams are doing it City and utd played counter attack against us. The pass and move tactics are fine and all you people expecting immediat results need to step back and have patience. We have gone from last season languishing lower end of the table and struggling to even string 3 passes togethor to fighting for the top 4 in a league which is now more competative than ever. There is no longer a so called big 4 as other teams have slowly built over the last few seasons as we are now, and they have done it the same way we will by blooding youngsters and buying the odd senior players in as and when needed. Spuds have done it and look at them now UTD have doneit for years with great success as have arsenal. The board will never win with a lot of you fickle fans we don't buy anybody we're showing no ambition we buy a player who can't cut it and the management should be sacked, we buy £30-£40 mil players on silly wages and before long were broke and back where we were 12 months ago under hodgeson. Just over 12 months ago we were worrying about a long hard relagation battle yet a lot of fans were saying its the players not hodgeson its the board its the pitch blah blah. No we are a few point off 4th and looking like a good shout for the champions league battle, were halfway to wembley in the league cup and have won our 1st F.A cup match 5-1 whilst playing poorly. to be hones a top 6 finish and a cup this season is a massive improvement on the last few years and considering the transition were in, luck with players/refs and results were having, a massive achievement for the management team and board. I hate this negativity and Its not about how long you have supported our great club its about understanding how to support our club and what it means to be a fan.
Think about our motto and what it means to never walk alone.......The clue is in the saying as kenny said stand togethor and we can achieve anything.
You'll never walk alone as long as your a liverpool fan.
Carlos79

Carlos I respect your take on it but how can the tactics be right we didn't win, carra's been immense for us but I would never ever play him in midfield he is far to slow,I know they're young but I would of put sterling on for the last 10-15 mins to utilise he's speed or the other young lad silva but I agree all our players are similar in that they have no gile well apart from stevie cheers pk

lol on fifa 12 andy carroll is almost unplayable ! almost justifies his price tag. #ifonly

I know and very quick lol

Been a lot of talk about strikers coming in, if we could get the ones we have back into this sort of form, we shouldn't be too far off:

Andy Carroll - www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qGNJnNFwW0&feature=related

Luis Suarez - www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD5gPi9f9M0

RedSG

The only difference other than the Jerseys with Carroll is the way that the balls are put into the box

Just been on Warriorsports.com and the Gear looks abit rubbish i hope they Do a decent job on LFC's Kit

MJ

Bet the kit ends up being s**t

Ugly logo aswell the mocks i've seen are terrible might be a record kit deal but if we don't sell as many because people don't like them then we might as well of stuck with addidas.

I don't think the clubs get a significant amount out of the number shirts that sell? Someone could probably confirm that... we'll still get the 25mill per season whatever happens! {Ed002's Note - Shirt sales through club outlets provides small additional income, but the £25M per season is the true income from shirt sales.}

The new shirt will go down as one of the best in recent times, I assure you.

its been just over a year since we got new owners, we've move forward loads since woy, i said at the start of the window i didnt think we would sign any big players, i feel this year is about gathering info and next year will be massive changes, new ground, class players but I do think they were looking for the big globle market of champs league for next year so i can now see a few last min bids if thing are not looking good by the end of jan.

Yea but maybe too late/We NEED Champs Leauge, like or not.Only way Top players will come-simples

Adidas saying Liverpool are not performing on the pitch and under acheiving so wouldn't pay anymore money.
Some cheek that considering most of the people currently wearing adidas branded clothing are the absolute detritus of society, the Jeremy kyle generation and jail birds.
Our great club deserves better, 4th best selling shirt in the world they are saying.
25m a year is cheap, our shirt is priceless.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - I think their point was much simpler in that they would not give a much increased sponsorship deal as they were not convinced it would give a good enough return, particularly with the club out of Europe.}

Mikey,

From someone who usually makes clear and valid points to suggest that a particular brand of clothing determines a section of society is ludicrous and somewhat ignorant....
I don't see the big deal in the sponsorship or Adidas' comments. This is the type of expertise I had expected from our owners (thought our previous owners might do this.....), quite simply Warrior see the opportunity, adidas are looking at the bottom line.

Richards

Thats an awfull lot of cash for a new stadium/anfield 150million that amazing in today's climate

Tongue was firmly in cheek there mate. Lol
Don't chuck away your new trainers just yet haha

Badly phrased statement from Adidas.

Of arguably the top five teams in the EPL, Adidas will be making the shirts for just one - Chelsea.

This is a company in free-fall.

The notion that they are dropping us for non-performance is laughable. It's like being asked out by Megan Fox, and then your former girlfriend loudly telling everyone that it was she who dumped you.

LAST YEAR the lfc chairman said "nothing happens in the january window until the end of january" (ie torres ).
also the ecomonic situation in countrys such as spain and italy
are so bad that has to be a factor in the market !
i'd bet kenny and DC are scouting for young players and then the bidding war for players starts !
i dont think defoe was ever an option
adam johnson is not going to join either
i do think Llorente, hazard are more possible
Conor coady should be playing more

Genoa sign Peruvian 'jewel'.
Italian side Genoa have signed 17- year-old Peruvian striker Andy Polo from Universitario de
Deportes. Polo was recommended by Fiorentina
man Juan Vargas and Genoa president
Enrico Preziosi said he was willing to
pay the money for the Peruvian
phenom, Examiner.com reported. "We paid for (Polo) based on his age
and the market he was in," said
Preziosi. "But it is quite evident he has
some very special numbers." The Universitario youngster was quite
excited for his new challenge and
wanted to make a quick impression
on his new team. "(Serie A) is one of the best leagues in
the world and it would be a great
place to obtain experience," said Polo. "I want to adapt as quickly as possible
and show everyone why they signed
me. I would like to score many goals
in Italy".
Polo, know as "La Joya" (The Jewel).
Another great talent missed!
Marius

How has he been 'missed'? We didn't bid for him!

I heard his brother Marco is available though.

macca who do you think liverpool will be able to sign in the transfer window. i mean kenny says he is happy with his squad but we have no striker that could provide us with goals every week. i mean look at arsenal they have van persie, henry
chelsea have torres, sturridge,lukaku,mata
liverpool have carroll and bellamy
not worht mentioning kuyt
so this year 4th spots not ours i'm afraid

You seem to be forgetting we also have Luis. He only has two more league games to miss then he'll be back with a point to prove. Fairly soon Arsenal will say goodbye to Henry and I'd put good money on Van Persie missing a chunk of the season through injury. Everyone assumes the Spuds will be a top three side but they have had a fairly easy run of games so far I still think they will be in the mix for 3rd/4th with us Chelsea and Arsenal. We've also got Dirk & Maxi who can attacking roles. Keep the faith, Kenny knows more about football than all his critics on here combined.

Luis wasnt scoring either mate

Does Macca ever read these posts, never seems to respopnd??. {Ed001's Note - perhaps he has better things to do than respond to hundreds of posts asking for his input!}

Fsg know that top 4 is a long way off now and there not gona give out millions just to panic buy, the players they want just aren't available to the summer, if I were kk I'd be worried about my job come the summer if we don't make top 4...:-o

We have a great squad mate, all we need to do is just stick the ball in the net, we create loads of chances per game, when the team starts to click up front we'll be unstoppable, we haven't really gone on a winning streak in a while, if we can put together a good run of wins we'll be right up there

He should already be sacked

I think Liverpool are doing things in the right way buying young homegrown players they may have big sign on fees but are on small wages. When this comes in fully down the road a couple of years the money of
Chavski' & Citeh's well not count and we'll be fighting with the big boyz ( Utd, Spurs and the gunners) So keep the faith in Kenny and in Liverpool
Bigfluppy

Why would City's money not count, their owner probably makes about 5+ Billion a year in oil and they are redeveloping the area around ground into some kind of SuperPlex my Brother in law isa city supporter and trust me they are doing some MAJOR things to make City stay on top for a very long time

If FSG aint got the money they should have bought another club

19 Jan 2012 17:08:21
As a South African, I naturally have a great interest in the Afcon competition. I will be watching Demba Cisse with great interest, I believe he could prove an inspired buy for Newcastle, and potentially bad news for us. Chelsea have bought Cahill so should improve in defence, and possible with Drogba leaving, might see Torres improve. No doubt Spurs and City will strengthen, and no telling what the Mancs and Arsenal will do. This all leaves me scratching my head, as all the teams are above us and contesting the 4 Champs league places. LFC have not added, not even a loan signing, so one has to ask why?. Surely there is a opportunity to 'tweak' the squad, and at least show some initiative.
How I wish the club had the £35m (AC) available now, to go and buy at least 2 players, rather than what we got.
From Jan 2011 panic buying, to Jan 2012 over cautious, it just seems somewhat disconnected, surely the club can seen what is needed, but yet seem aloof to any such suggestion, is it a case of not wanting to draw more attention to the clubs problems.
Always a loyal fan, but just very puzzled.

People have to remember we only brought 7 senior players to the club, give them time to gel! I expect us to get better, even with the players we have we are still good enough to win games against any team in the league. Most the games we've played we've dominated posession and had plenty of chances to score, I think Dalglish is right at the moment not getting another striker in, he's showing faith in the players and they will get more confidence from that. I expect Luis Suarez to come back determined to get us 4th place, wait and see, why gamble again on playes like David Texeira, then all the people on here will just complain about us signing him... Seriously, the issue here for the rest of the season is to get into the top 4, if we get it we can get top quality strikers, just be patient.

Rocky

Kenny will be sacked before the summer just wait and see

Cahill's a hoofer. Not really an improvement, although at least he'll stay in defence for Chelsea, unlike Luiz.

19 Jan 2012 16:42:08
Liverpool need to start moving quickly and show some positive intent in regards to replacing players who dont perform.

What the hell is going on? Jesus Suso is more then good enough to be on the bloody bench and Conner Coady is too, its so blatantly obvious. How the hell are they meant to prove it playing for the academy until someone buys them like ll the others that were better then wht we had in the first team. If we do sign Joao Carlos he is more then good enough too, he's probably more technically gifted then spearing and kuyt put together. Someone needs to sort this out. That Arsene Wenger has faith in his youth team players and they have been in the Champions league year in year out. It's quite obvious we have gone wrong somewhere because we aint bloody in it.

Another crisis is becoming inevitable in terms of this seasons champions league spot and possible signings to be made once were in it.

We wont even get 5th if teams above us improve their squad and we dont. No chance in hell. Thats the reality. Stop hoping and stuff its blind.

Angry Red
Daniel Hanwell YNWA

Totaly agree
some of the senior players arnt producing
downing is lacking confidence at the moment hes frightend of putting a cross in which isnt helping carrol henderson needs another season and some of the other players need a kick up the backside
injecting some raw talent at home will improve liverpools performances

Grow up. You're an embarrassment to the club.

Martin

What do we need to do then mr manager

Suso is a brilliant player but he is tiny and thin and would get smashed off the ball, give the lad another year to grow then he will be given a proper chance

Daniel your obviously a bit stressed, why not click on cougar dating and get your hip bones ground to dust by an older lady.

MIKEY

Tiny and thin? He's bigger than Messi. Just saying... His game isn't about power, its about finese and technique, and hes very good at it. He does need another year, but to develop as a player, not to grow. Stupid suggestion.

YNWA! (Adam)

The manager has had two transfer windows and bought us players who would make us mid table

Dalglish has given plenty of Academy/reserve players chances and experience... Spearing, Kelly, Flanagan, Shelvey, Coady and Robinson all involved in the last year, people need to look at the big picture, we're building for the future, we're not buying players now because we want a new stadium built (£400m). From the start FSG said they will try their best to bring in the best young talent in Europe and as far as i can see thats what they are doing, look how many players they're signing for the Academy! FSG said they will build their model based on Arsenals, this is a project, I think FSG have been good to their word, they've got new sponsors and lots of other deals behind the scenes to get our club back to the top, they made money available to Dalglish and Comolli to strenghten the squad if THEY feel the need to... Would people rather Hicks and Gillett back?? At least FSG are building us for the future. This season isn't over, Champions League still possible, its up to the players we have to get us there, we are good enough, if we dont make it there the end of the season we'll strenghten the squad to get us there next season. As for Dalglish getting the sack? That is a stupid statement, fair enough he has made some tactical errors but he is an inspiration to those players, he's transformed players performances, Maxi for instance, he's given them support when they need it (like Suarez) and will succeed in getting us a title in 2-3 more seasons, i'm sure of it.

Rocky

Don't make any difference how big or small you are you Muppet, we have Suso, Coady and Sterling very similar to Silva, Lennon, Spearing all little players and good. What is the point of having the best youngsters if we ain't gonna give them a chance to show what they can do.

BigD

YNWA (ADAM) all i am saying is that players in the prem will steam roll him into the floor if he gets to fancy, as he is a delicate Lad and atleast Messi basically runs with the ball glued to his feet he needs time to mature and grow

Adam h is not bigger than messi nor is he as skilled if he is put infront of the likes of john terry and tries to get all skillfull Terry will basically kick him to the floor as would most prem players...You need to think about the lads size and ability...You obviously have no idea how difficult the step up to 1st team is...For Suso it would be like a bantem weight boxer going into a heavy weight match he might get a few digs in but would get a beating

Ha! Love it how things are "blatantly obvious" to you Daniel. Maybe you should send John W Henry your CV?
Regards Suso, he's immensely talented but still quite inconsistent and tends to go missing in games when up against it.
Don't worry, people at the club actually have a decent idea what they're doing and a proven track record.
But there's no secret formula to winning. The Prem is the toughest and most competitive it's ever been and whether you choose to believe it or not, we're still a side in transition.

You sign your post "Angry Red"
Well I'm a Proud Red and excited about the future of our great club
Joe

Mr manager says that Kuyt, Maxi and spearing are replaceable and if we lose another game or draw even while the clubs above us strengthen I can't see us getting Champions League again which is very worrying as the trend continues and honour softens our chances of becoming a Europa League club when we should be defending our 5 BLOODY European trophys that need dusting in that cabinet. I dont care what you say about size and strength when compared to control, speed and technical ability aswell as fearlessness it doesnt matter at all, need i start naming players. Something has to be done and quick, everyone knows it including Gerrard. We are only a few players short of being better than anyone in the league especially when we include the youngsters and get rid of a few players. Thats basically the point im trying to make and thats to take advantage of this seasons chance to improve and get back up there by any means necessary before it becomes too distant next season and in future seasons to come. Its so important, dont realise this before its too late. Reina, Enrique, agger, Skrtel, Coates, Kelly, Johnson, Lucas, Coady, Adam, Gerrard, Suarez are all first team players, Carragher, kuyt, Maxi and Aurelio has passed it and anyone ive left out are bench warmers simply because of age, consistency or general tactical decisons. Now build around them. We are not that far off as everyone seems to be saying out there. Simple.

Hey Macca what's your opinion of us signing Luuk De Jong and Christian Eriksen?

19 Jan 2012 16:31:55
liverpool must sign Xerdan Shaqiri from bassel

Best young prospect in european football

The kids got it all

Break the bank and get him or regret that another prem side will sign him

what an option with suarez and caroll

this kid will fire the bullets and drive liverpool forward

its not a striker we need it is an injection of pace in midfield hes so confident it can only rub off on our players

He's got weight issues.

Ozone

Hes a must if liverpool are to go in the right direction

forget bent defoe these guys are predictuble and liverpool have a habit at the moment at buying prem players only to find there not good enough look at our league standing and current home form
raw talent is what we need kids that are confident confidence is 90%of football it brings out ability [players like shaquri have this built in confidence
this is what turned utd into a force and built a club not 20 million quid on bent who couldnt hit a barn door at 50 paces

How can his weight be an issue look at hulk and brazilian ronaldo they are not exactly thin but are and was still quality players.
skurks

I dont hink shaqiri has weight issues mate
his endurance is fantastic
have u even watched him play.

I've watched him a few times and for a lad of his age to be that size doesn't bode well for the future.

Suso looks a great prospect should be getn a run in the 1st team well thats just a fans opinion....

hey lfc fans

i just wanna say i really feel for the fans because with all the money spent last summer...7th is all that has been achieved in the league so far with a window of opportunity looming...........the fact that the management havent done anything improve on it seems strange and disappointing.

usually jan is when u need that extra bit of help to do sth.....its strange that lfc seem to be happy with what they have........i personally think that a champions league place is beyond the club, but the question is..do the management share that same opinion? and if so..what are there expectations?

is this year just an experiment?

I think it's about keeping pace with City and Spurs who have invested... we have to remember, we're not the only team that buys players. We were bleeding quality - Alonso, Torres, Mascherano and Arbeloa and never replaced... We're just boosting up the stocks with good quality but still need a few x-factor type players to come through!

19 Jan 2012 15:53:10
I am only 17 so I wasnt around when the Hillsborough disaster occured, but I read numerous reports and accounts about Hillsborough today, and it made me realise what a horrific tragedy it was!

I couldn't imagine what it would be like getting crushed and there would be nothing you could do about it. And for people who had escaped the crush to help other fans is pure heroism! JFT96!

Cheers, Conor.

Kenny has said the truth we won't be signing players except for some kids...Of course our owners are not sugar Dadys like that of Chavski' & Citeh's.. we have to make the best use of money available but Kenny has wasted a majority on a certain Andy Carroll & Downing...we r suffering & we 'll continue to suffer in-front of the goal.. the cost of paying the price for buying an immature striker for a record 35M & over priced players...shame that we have one of leagues worst conversion rate with a 35M striker on board.. just shame... ..If u don't have enough money better make the best use of it, use it wisely.
Screwed...

We should not have been so wasteful with the £35m in the first place. We were beautifully 'hoodwinked' by Newcastle, shows LFC were a little inexperienced in transfer dealings in Jan 2011, now we are on the defensive, with a 'siege mentality approach'.

Yip nearly 55m on two very average players, what a damn waste of money. So who is ultimately accountable, in any business someone would be getting the 'chop' for this waste of resorces!.

Kenny has lost the faith of most fans. You cannot back a manager who flushes money down the toliet. He has not got a clue he should be sacked soon if results don't improve.

Lost the faith of most fans? That'll be why there are 'Kenny Out' banners and chants for him to be sacked on matchdays then?

Mr Benn

And dont forget about the 20 million lost on aquaman injured being giving away for free lfc have lost a fortune

At the moment, you could be forgiven for thinking Robbie Fowler was back on Merseyside as someone is clearly playing a practical joke on Andy Carroll by hiding his shooting boots whenever he goes into the changing rooms.

It's now a year into the big Geordie's stay on Merseyside and poor Andy hasn't settled well at all on the pitch.

Liverpool fans are getting sick of reading about Andy Carroll's poor form in front of goal and how many games he's gone without scoring, but it's inevitable that it will continue to be spoken about unless the statistics change or Liverpool signs a new striker.

Liverpool have just announced a new kit sponsorship deal that sees former manufacturer Adidas give way to American-based company Warrior Sports for the creative rights to the famous red shirt worn by so many Anfield legends.

Warrior Sports will now make Liverpool's first team kit, as well as their training kit for the next six years.

The deal is reported to be worth £25 million a year to the Anfield club, which surely can justify a January delve into the transfer market.

Essentially Liverpool have guaranteed themselves £150 million income, which will give them a lot more financial clout in the transfer market should they choose to spend it that way.

Michael Regan/Getty Images
A new stadium is also high on the wanted list, which means the Liverpool board will now face a decision as to where to inject their new riches.

Liverpool's problem this season has been putting the ball into the back of the net, and that is a problem that could be solved with less than 15 percent of the Warrior Sports income.

Liverpool now have no excuse as to whether they can afford a transfer deluge, but the money has to be spent wisely, and mistakes like Andy Carroll's price tag need to be avoided.

It's a great day for Liverpool football club, but it could be even better if Kenny Dalglish adheres to fan desires.

Danny

When Swiss Ramble worked out that Liverpool will turn over around £165m for 2010/11, he had already included the £25m a year Warrior deal (albeit not at that time confirmed). So the Liverpool board are no more "Wealthier" now than they were a few months ago when considering transfer targets. Liverpool's budget remains the same.

Disney! {Ed002's Note - Syd, there was no Warrior deal in 2010/11. It is just nonsense and you have to stop posting all of this financial rubbish on the Liverpool pages - keep it to Manchester United pages or I can give you some time to contemplate. It does not make good banter - or I could tell the Liverpool fans where to look in the archive from when you used to be a Chelsea supporter?}

Just leave him to it ed002
The more he posts, the more people he looks like a sad little cretin to.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - I don't want him upsetting the Liverpool fans Mikey. I am being protective of you.}

Lol, Sydney got owned by ED002!

AG

ED002 you are sheer class

MJ

Swiss Ramble has included the £25m Warrior deal when working out what Liverpool would turnover this season, that is what I said. And I find it comical that you still believe I was a Chelsea fan Ed. My grandad would be turning in his grave.

Disney! {Ed002's Note - What you said Syd was 2010/2011 - do you know what year it is?}

You have to chuckle at the snide remarks from the 'debt brigade', green with envy because their chief exec is still wandering around Asia, 'cap in hand', trying to float on any exchange that will have them in vain attempts to sell a share of their ownership for a ridiculously over inflated sum.

Don't worry Syd, if the Glaziers can hoodwink some ingenuous arab consurtium into believing that Utd are worth £1.8 billion, you may get a sugar daddy as an owner. You'll be able to compete with your old club Chelsea in the transfer market then lad.

Ozone

Typo, I meant this season Ed. I am not trying to upset anyone. Some fans think the £150m six year deal is extra cash, but I am saying that FSG knew about this cash and planned for this cash even though a deal wasn't concluded with Warrior. In other words it's not an £150m transfer kitty. I am not trying to upset anyone, what do you think of me? Wait don't answer that ;)

Disney! {Ed002's Note - Yadda, yadda, yadda Syd. If you write the wrong year down how are folks ever expected to believe what you say. But what I would like you to contemplate is how nice it would be to get back on the site after a short ban - which is soon coming your way unless you stop using any of the figures on this page.}

! He used 2 be a chelsea fan! Im going 2 traul the archives till i find it, thanx ed002 ur a legend
Kiwired

Only when Chelsea are playing City am I a Chelsea fan. Same as I am a Bolton fan when they play Liverpool this weekend and a Spurs fan when they play City on Sunday.

Ed if you open this link "swissramble.blogspot.com/search/label/Liverpool" and read part 1 (Put your shirt on it) you will see what I meant and that I never meant no harm by what I said. Just saying that Swiss Ramble had already accounted for the Warrior sponsorship. This is the last time I will post on this page.

Stay away from this guy Erding from PSG. Newcastle were after him and gave up on him and his agent - bad news. Cant get his game for PSG.

19 Jan 2012 16:20:43
About Liverpool not bringing in players right now!

I will allways remember Kevin Keagan's Newcastle.
In January they were leading the League, than they bought Asprilla from Parma, a great striker and ended up with no silverware at all, because it took time to adapt their game to him and vice versa.

That was a good buy, great striker in a great side, but in the end it was harmful to their game

We are in 7th place at present, still in the mickey mouse cup and thankfully still in the fa.cup...surely buying a player isnt gonna hinder our season as the purchase cudnt perform any worse than the likes of carroll/henderson/kuyt. Its not like we are asking for a new back four, we just want a bit of creativity. Although we are having numerous corners and shots, they are not close to hittin the net. We need somebody prolific - remember we are lfc, remember our history

easyd

Well we dont have all that much to lose right now so maybe this half of the season is the time to get people playing

Well done to everyone re: e-petition. Well done to FSG for evicting the cowboys and saving our future, bringing KK back to the fore and putting in place a plan of action that will take some years to fulfill but will produce a stadium and team to be proud of. If we sign some new players or not I will support the reds with unashamed bias. Bring on Bolton. If we stick together we will achieve as we have in the past.

You have absolutely no

I have been advised that Luc Castaignos & Texiera will be unveiled at the Semi-Final next Wednesday as the owners like new players to watch from the stands at Anfield before training with everyone and also believe this will get Anfield rocking before Kick-Off when we turn City over.

That would actually be a good idea

Never heard of them be4 so I don't think anfield will be rocking When they are unveiled,if it was a player like ozil, eriksen, higuin, llorente, marko Marin etc then the place would be rocking

Liverpool are understood to be ahead of several top European clubs in the queue for Teixeira's signature. But Dalglish stressed the youngster would not initially be a contender for a first-team squad place, saying: "He's only a kid."

Daliglish also played down links with Ghana Under-20 midfielder Mumuni Abubakar.

After a recent trial with the club, Abubakar told Joy Sports in Ghana: "They were impressed by my performances during training and the match that I played. Liverpool is talking with my agent [Oliver Arthur] now."

But Dalglish denied any knowledge of a deal.

"It must be the academy," he said. "We are expecting a quiet [transfer] window. Obviously the academy aren't but we are."

19 Jan 2012 15:13:09
Just been reading through the posts and I have to say I'm disapointed in a lot of you. Kenny says we will be quiet in the window and your all complaining. This is just my opinion but I think there will still be 1 first team player coming but I'm also hoping that we can ship out some first team players aswel like kuyt. Aurelio. And maxi. Put some new youngsters in the academy promote some academy Players to the reserves and promote some reserve players to the first team like Morgan. Coady. And wisdom. Am I not mistaken in thinking most of you wanted the youngsters to be promoted in the first place so all of you asking for a top class marquee player for 30-40 mil. They are only top players because they got the chance so what if we already have an undiscovered top player but he won't get the chance because we spent a fortune on someone else instead of giving him his chance.

Just my opinion

Eric the red

My opinion is there's more players need to be shown the door before we bring more in. Still to many players. RED LENIN

Mate, don't think we are looking for a 30 or 40m signing, even a good loan deal will help, just someone who knows what a goal looks like. Its just a case of showing some intent, not complacency!.

19 Jan 2012 15:09:03
Hi Eds & Reds, do you think there is any chance that someone from the reserves/academy will have a crack at the first team this season? i.e. the likes of Sterling & Suso, (Texeira?) - IMO we need to get these kids in sooner p.s. Dani Pacheco, any news on him? {Ed002's Note - All of this has been dealt with already. Try the search function.}

rafa will surely take over if hes given an offer

i appreciate KK for his outmost contribution to the club but i think rafa knows more of a management then he does. rafa surely loves this club and he surely will rejoin if we can make him and offer. i would like to see him coming and taking us to new heights. everybody has high and lows and if we can back him up wid money as we are doing to kk we will again be the force, the force that once went dormant. isnt there any way bringin him back

Rafa was 100 percent defensive football ,kenny is the man for the job ,i would like a striker to be bought though

Name the managers who have won a premiership title

Did Rafa win a league title anywhere?
With any club he has managed?
On which basis is he better than Dalglish?
Can people just STFU with Dalglish,
give him a chance,
3-4 years to build something,
How long did it take Shankly to build a
champion winning side?

King Kenny > Rafa Benitez !

Actually person Rafa won La Liga twice in 3 years with valencia before coming to anfield. He is still the only man to have broken the monopoly of Madrid and Barcelona as regards league titles in the last 12 seasons. I'm not in favour of him coming back but please do some research before you castigate the man.

Yep, promotion in 61'/'62 and took Shankly two years to win the league. Liverpool spent the previous 8 years in the then 2nd division. Time and patience mean nothing these days though.

Cheers mate, but I'd disagree in that respect. Look at ferguson at united. It took him 7 years with them to win the league (1993/94). As long as the groundwork is being done properly you've got to be patient. We'll get there mate.

Dont slag me off for this post please. My Geordie mate has been winding me up with the following fact. For the 35 million Carroll money we could have had Collocini, Cisse, Tiote, Cabaye and Ba for well under 30m for the lot!

Collocini, Tiote & Cabaye are not better than we currently have and Ba is a risk that has payed off for Newcastle, How can we slag you off when your too scared to leave your name on the post you Muppet.

So Liverpool's deal is the second biggest in British history agreed?

Manchester United - £25.4m
Liverpool £25m.

Why? Because I posted concrete proof that doesn't just prove this page wrong, but nearly every newspaper too? Can you at least confirm that the figures are correct then I will bugga off back to my own team's page ;)

Disney! {Ed002's Note - The figurees were correct in 2006 and the original deal was worked in US$ so an exchange rate kicks in. But I do not want the financial information to drag the page down. You can climb back over the fence now.}

Depends on the dollar. Given the number of sources that say it's not compare to the only one I've seen that says it is - you - I think it's safe to say Liverpool's is bigger, therefore, we're done with it.

I agree with an earlier poster, i like the majority want to see us challenging for the league title however it is clear we will not for 2 maybe 3 years simple reason is the current squad are not good enough, that is why we have/are investing heavily in the academy/reserve team with the likes of Sterling, Ibe, Ojo, Teixeira just to name a few, the future is bright for Liverpool FC and we owe and have to thank Rafa the person who set it all up a lot, just hope that the youth we have can fulfill there potential, if they do we will save ourselves millions in the future and hopefully have a squad capable of bringing back the silverware to Anfield where it belongs.

Anne Williams has today taken a major step in her battle to get justice for her son Kevin after over 100,000 people signed an e-petition.

Kevin was just 15 years old when he died at Hillsborough and his mother launched the online e-petition as part of an appeal into overturning the accidental death verdict placed on him.

Today's developments mean that a government debate could now take place, looking at the possibility of a new inquest into Kevin's death.

Mrs Williams thanked everyone who had shown their support.

"Thank you everyone, honestly, from the bottom of my heart for signing and supporting me," she said.

"It's been 23 years of living with lies and I cannot go away until I get justice for Kevin."

Two days ago 35,000 names were on the petition. Then, in a remarkable forty eight hours, that amount trebled to take the count up to the required figure of over 100,000 signatures.

Anne said: "I just can't believe it. The way it was going down last night and then came the support.

I have resigned myself to the fact that it's going to take time for Liverpool to get back in to the top mix. But, if we keep getting the right young talent in, then hopefully things will start to change by about 3-4 years from now.

The only other way is the City way which is spending ridiculous amounts of money on players and giving them wages that are, in my opinion, immoral! This is not feasible.

Can we keep Suarez will be the big question in the summer?

I agree. we are going to be a very strong team in 3 or 4 years with all the young players coming in. the future looks bright

19 Jan 2012 13:41:37
Thinking alot on this transfer window, and in all honesty it makes sense what we are doing, obviously I have my concerns on a goalscorer but on the plus side...

We have had a poor start to the season, I have the utmost confidence we will progress to the league cup final.. Think of the boost that could give the team?

Suarez's ban hasnt got that many games left and hes back for the United game, that will be influential and possibly a turning point.

Gerrard has only just come back and he IS the key to Andy Carroll's success, and come to think about it he is the key to all of the other players coming together and performing. (Obviously)

We can push for top 4 most definitely, Arsenal and Chelsea are suffering defensively whereas we arent! We just need to finish of the chances we create (and going by stats we create a hell of a lot!)

Bringing in youngsters in January will only benefit us next season, they can settle in and gel with the team and maybe next season make that push for the first team (look at last season with Kelly, Flanno, Robbo, Spearing)

Bring on 2012, there are nothing but good times ahead

Ed, what's this I hear about Liverpool going to have a
Quiet january transfer window, kk stated this in a interview. Does this mean we won't be signing anyone, apart from the
Cm? {Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed as far as I am concerned. If no cover exists for any players leaving or long term injured the club will consider buying or possibly loaning players. !! NEW KIT DEAL IN FULL !! .. LIVERPOOL FC have expressed their dismay after comments from a high ranking official at sportswear giant Adidas claimed the club priced themselves out of a new kit deal.

The contract as the Reds' supplier expires at the end of this season and despite holding talks over extending the partnership with Adidas, Liverpool FC are understood to have reached an agreement with American brand Warrior Sports instead.

Reported to have been struck in April last year, and said to be worth £25m a year – trumping Manchester United's contract with Nike which ploughs a reported £23.5m into the coffers at Old Trafford ever 12 months – the Reds' move to Warrior Sports doubles their current income from a kit deal.

Sales of the Liverpool's replica shirts are believed to reach nearly 900,000 a year, making it the fourth highest selling kit in the world behind United, Barcelona and Real Madrid with the Reds having earned around £12m per annum from Adidas.

With the end of their six-year deal with the German brand drawing near, Liverpool opened the bidding process to find a fresh supplier and though Adidas had wanted to remain in place as the club's choice, they withdrew from negotiations.

Chief executive Herbert Hainer says Liverpool's performance on the pitch, playing without European football for the first time in 12 seasons, meant the club's valuation of themselves was inflated.

But the club have hit back at the timing of the comments and, they say, that Adidas were unable to realise the Reds' global appeal, regardless of qualification for European competition or not.

"The gap between their performance on the field and what the number should be is not in balance," said Herbert Hainer, Adidas' chief executive officer.

"Then we said, 'OK we will not do it'. That's the end of the story.

"It all depends on the success and the effort and the popularity, the exposure on TV, revenue you can generate by merchandising.

"This all has to be brought in line between what you offer and what you get. We thought that what Liverpool were asking and what they were delivering was not in the right balance."
Liverpool FC managing director Ian Ayre, told the ECHO: "We are disappointed that Adidas seem to point to a lack of European football as reason not to agree a new deal and cannot see that we are on par with the biggest football brands in the world."

There was belief inside the corridors of Anfield that the two would continue to have a healthy working relationship until the end of the season and there was no reason, Liverpool say, for that to change.

Their partnership started in the 1985-86 season and, after a 10-year deal with Reebok, was revived in 2006.

The Reds believe they ran a fair bidding process for the right to be the club's kit supplier with the battle for the contract hard fought.

Interest from every major sports brand was forthcoming but Liverpool were impressed by Warrior Sports' enthusiasm and that the club will be their only focus in football.

Created by Dave Morrow, Warrior Sports became a subsidiary of New Balance in February 2004, and specialise in Ice Hockey and Lacrosse clothing and equipment. Based in Warren, Michigan, near the United States border with Canada and neighbouring Detroit, Warrior Sports acquired Brine Sporting Goods in 2007.

Brine is a successful football brand in America, where balls, goalkeeper gloves and shin-guards are said to be amongst their specialities.

Warrior Sports' parent company New Balance, won the contract to become kit supplier to the Boston Red Sox in April 2011, the baseball team owned Fenway Sports Group – the same people now in charge at Anfield.

Just watching the Stoke game. I can see we are trying to move the ball but with nothing up front it won't stick. We still play like a one man forward line. Without a top class center forward at home we will struggle to break down teams.

Gerrard all oif a sudden taking all the set pieces. What's changed really there? We need to move away from that. A team is better than Gerrard trying to do everything.

Carra usual talking and arms flailing. Let the lads play. I love you but your time as a player is DONE.

Hi, Eds etc... can anyone shed somelight on the youngster we signed from Sporting not heard much of him? Cheers

YNWA...Rabbit93 {Ed002's Note - He has done well in the academy and reserves at Sporting and will be moving to the academy and reserves at Liverpool. Not one for the first team just yet.}

U think texeira will have a role to play as a squad player next season, ed? N how good is he compared to suso n shelvey?
Indian Buzzer {Ed001's Note - difficult to compare players, but he was the star when we faced them in the NextGen. He completely outshone Suso.}

Kenny is going to sign (but do not know what pos.) it is not like he is going to admit he is going to buy players this month- this is the way Kenny always does things...otherwise speculation will go into overdrive.

19 Jan 2012 12:49:06
Dalglish has stated it will be a quiet month once again, I get the feeling that nobody will be signed for the first team, which is dissapointing, everybody knows that this current sqaud is NOT good enough to achieve champions league, but the worrying thing for me is that I think Dalglish truly believes that it is good enough. We are desperate for a striker and a winger, until we get them top 4 is not achievable. I still havn't made my mind up about Kenny, he is a legend of the club and a true idol, but if these mistakes (signing Adam, henderson, downing and even Carroll) had been made by lets say Hodgson, LFC fans would be up in arms screaming for him to go already, the saving grace for us at the monent is a trip to Wembley, and it could just save Kennys bacon and paper over the cracks.

Does anyone know if there is
a collective name for the 'supporters'

As usual we will probably leave everything until the last minute and then end up signing someone like Heskey for £6mil. KK has said we won't be busy this transfer market but the academy will, so I wouldn't hold your breath on a marquee signing this Jan.

A marquee? In this weather? Silly idea and a total waste of money. Kenny must go if that happens!

I wasn't anyway!?!? I want us to make make marquee players not buy them.

It is clear that LFC will not be signing anyone this month. Without a decent striker we will struggle for Europe full stop. Macca what has happened to this guy from Inter

KK said it will be a 'quiet' month, but that doesn't mean we won't be getting anybody. I am sure he has something up his sleeve...

He will definately have at least one Senior player come in. If there wasn't he would say NO we are not signing anyone.

Are we negociating for a winger?
Are we keeping it all quiet until the last minute?

Opta stats from Saturday's goalless draw with Stoke show how Liverpool piled on the pressure in a bid to break the deadlock.

Tony Pulis's men were forced to make 72 clearances while Dalglish's side made just 14 and the Reds fired in 42 crosses compared to Stoke's eight.

The corner count was also a massive 11-1 in Liverpool's favour.

Glen Johnson looked the most likely to score as the defender had four efforts on goal.

In all, Liverpool had 15 shots but only one was on target. Stoke managed just three efforts at Pepe Reina's net.

Eight of Liverpool's strikes came from outside the 18-yard box while their opponents failed to register an attempt from inside the Reds' penalty area.

The home side dominated possession with a 68.7 per cent share of the play and won 50.6 per cent of their 'duels'. But in the air, the stats show that Stoke were far superior, winning 63.6 per cent of the battles.

Mark Sorensen had a total of 63 touches but his opposite number Pepe Reina was far more accurate in his distribution, finding a Liverpool player with 85.2 per cent of his passes compared to Sorensen's 55.2 per cent.

Both keepers were forced to make just one save each.

Steven Gerrard touched the ball 99 times, more than any other player on the pitch. Martin Skrtel had 95 to leave him second while Stoke's Glenn Whelan and Mark Sorensen each had 63.

Gerrard also hit the most deliveries on the field (79).

Of the 17 players who played the full 90 minutes, Jose Enrique had the best pass accuracy with an 88.7 per cent completion rate. The Spaniard played 62 balls, 8.2 per cent of which were sent long up the pitch.

In the 59 minutes before his substitution, Stewart Downing proved to be most accurate at picking out a teammate, finding a Liverpool player 89.5 per cent of the time. He attempted 39 passes whereas Charlie Adam made 75.Opta stats from Saturday's goalless draw with Stoke show how Liverpool piled on the pressure in a bid to break the deadlock.

Jordan Henderson emerged from every 'duel' with possession and recorded a 100 per cent success rate in 'aerial duels'. The young midfielder also made two interceptions during the 74 minutes before his substitution.

Henderson also had more shots than any other Liverpool midfielder, trying his luck three times, twice from outside the box.

Kuyt struck twice from inside the Stoke penalty area but neither of his efforts troubled Sorensen.

Adam was fouled three times by the opposition but he also conceded three free kicks. In both instances that was more times than any other player on the park.

Liverpool played more than twice the amount of passes (624) than their opponents (283) and as a team they had a pass accuracy of 71 per cent.

very interesting to read

Liverpool will draw again Bolton this weekend.

Stats dont mean nothing unless we win we carnt score its as simply as that.

Doesn't matter a toss in the big scheme of things but makes a mockery of those who insisted it was a defensive line up

Chris in Tamworth

Not suprising though. We could break them down because we had no striker that has close control, quick feet, good touch and finishing ability.

Suarez was the difference last time we beat them and would have been the difference in this match.

This is why we need to buy a striker in the similar mold albeit Suarez is an absolute one-off in terms of his style and physic. Commentators call him the wee uraguyan when he is 5 ft 11.5 inches and has massive legs and yet still has a low centre of gravity and plays with a high level of passion, invention and general world class ability

Red Owl

and we still failed to score! bad times

Unfortunately there is only one stat that counts

Yeah it must have been an attacking line up with all those saves sorenson pulled outta tha bag Chris!

It does matter about these stats it just highlights we are almost there we just need a goalscorer.

Kris the Red

The sad thing is that the player with the second most number of touches was a defender, considering we were at home and dominated the game. Even when we are playing well, one thing that has disappointed me for the last few years, is how often we play the ball back to defenders from the opponents half, meaning we let them reorganise, and we lose attacking momentum, then look at how many of the goals we concede are from our own errors.

Still, I can still see improvements from the last couple of seasons. Just wish we could learn to stick the ball in the net!

El Diablo!

Just a quick question.

The likes of Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid pay high wages to the so called "star players"
Why is it that Liverpool cannot match up to their high wages.
Is it that all these above mentioned teams are running into financial losses?
{Ed001's Note - Chelsea and City have a sugar daddy to cover huge losses. United have a much higher turnover and so can pay more. Barca and Real Madrid are both reliant on the banks (and Govt in Madrid's case) to help them fund their buys.}

Ed is it me or does anybody else on here find these questions amazing? how can you possibly like football enough to come on this kind of site but have absolutely no idea about how the game works. amazing.

And barca and RM each negotiate their own television deals seperately, and seperate from the rest of la liga. So they dominate the vast majority of telly revenue in spain, which is quite large i'm sure.

Red7. {Ed002's Note - In broad terms, the current total annual revenue shared for televised top-tier league matches is:
Engalnd - 1.18B euro;
Italy - 0.91B euro;
France - 0.67B euro;
Germany - 0.41B euro;
Spain (Barcelona and Real Madrid) - 0.28B euro;
Spain (others) - 0.22B euro;
Netherlands - 0.10B euro.}

To all the dreamers on here got some good news for you so you don't have to keep asking about players, here goes.

This morning I was at JL airport waiting for my flight to paradise as you do, and I couldn't believe my eyes as no other than the very own cavani, pato, hazard, ozil, shawori, and higuan all walked through the arrival lounge to be greeted by commolli and dalglish, outside was a stretch limmo to take them to Melwood with no other than, you guessed it, fernando Torres driving. Make of it what u will but that's what I saw. Should keep the dreamers happy.

hi all and ed's not wanting to burst anyone's bubble but i do think this window will be quiet . I would like to see a winger and a striker but as time goes on prices go up . The only option i see for our beloved team is a loan to buy option as i can not see much being spent in a hurry .maybe its time to give the young guns ago some good prospects and cant be much worse than andy carrol who i think will need a bit more time to find his feet. All this talk bout money being spent badly is a joke too we have the best left back in the league and although we are not scoring you have to build from the back first .i think next season will be the one all reds have been waiting for . Just a note to 'angry' Liverpool fans shouting at other fans by using CAPITAL LETTERS ie WE ARE NOT GOING TO SIGN ANYONE or IT'S A WORK IN PROGRESS

Just remember after the spending of the summer window, John Henry all but said he was expecting at least 4th place, that's the remit, simple..

The owners have even made funds available for this window, its down to Kenny if he spends them but remember we need to be in the top 4 as a minimum come the end of the season

Hopefully Kennys arrogance doesn't make him think he can fail his target and keep his job..

This is where emotions, feelings, fairy tale stories have to be taken out if the equation..over 100 million spent and 18 mths in charge and no better off, than rafas last days and woys tenure, says it all..

Hopefully we strengthen and kick on

U tell me were no better off position wise an squad wise? Come off it who u kiddin!

"Hopefully Kennys arrogance doesn't make him think he can fail his target and keep his job.. "

Excuse me? Kenny is one of the most humbling down to earth people in footy.

Shame on you.

Realistic Red

Are we? If so, who's fault is it we are floating around 7th and looking no better on the pitch? The supposedly better squad or manager?

Kenny is far from humble anyone without rose tinted glasses knows this, come on, wake up..

Ray

Over 100m? if i'm not mistaken, we sold some players too...

It's not a financial debate, its a point that over 100 million has been spent on players and no difference has really been made to the team, maybe the squad but we are no better off in position/points and some cases performances..

Who's fault is it we are floating around 7th and looking no better on the pitch?

answer : Rafa Benitez

19 Jan 2012 11:36:57
Come on Dalglish for heavens sake go out and buy a striker cos if you don't were doomed and so are you.

Doomed? That suggests relegation or administration. Doomed in January? Get a grip.

Jan 19th and were Doomed, come on, were only 5 points off 4th, still to play all the teams above us, still in the FA Cup, and have got a great chance of going to Wembley in February, Oh and by the way there are 31 days in January, so there is still plenty of time for new signings

Deano95

We are all liverpool fans , we all want our club to succeed..nobodies opinion is right nor wrong, its a personal opinion. in my opinion kennys job isnt safe - if we didnt have kk the legend as manager and it was back to old woyyyy then we wud all be slating him. 7th place? come on be realistic, this is liverpool not aston villa, bolton, newcastle etc...we should be fighting for top 4 as a minimum...a few seasons back we were all dissapointed when utd pipped the title off us yet again. yes we have to support our players but we are each entitled to our opinion becos for 7th place is an insult.

Not taking credit for writing this but I found this and thought it was worth sharing. Many of the people on here are slating the club for not buying a 'big' signing but signing to much youth for the future. I looked at Comolli's players he bought at Spurs and found this and it makes interesting reading

"Do a quick straw poll with Joe Public on how Benitez and Hodgson have fared in the transfer market and the likely response will be: Rafa – a few gems but plenty of dross; and Hodgson – Konchesky and Poulsen? Really?

Some will tell you that Damien Comolli's appointment will finally banish Liverpool's (mostly) terrible transfer track record and usher in an age where we'll field Anelkas, Fabregas's and Gerrards all for the price of a packet of Jammie Dodgers.

Why are some people so confident Comolli will succeed?

Put simply: Gareth Bale's incredible performance against Maicon; the realisation that Comolli's signings now dominate Tottenham's team; the fact he unearthed Toure, Eboue and Clichy during his 7 years at Arsenal; and he has the studious and erudite demeanour of The Gallic Professors Wenger and Houllier.

There are others who think he hits as many as he misses. Anyone can get lucky if they take enough potshots, right?

So what's the truth?

Let's look at his signings in more detail:

When Comolli arrived at Tottenham, they were a mid table side. (They had finished 9th, 14th, 10th , 9th and 12th in the seasons immediately prior to his arrival.) Comolli oversaw 29 signings that were intended for the 1st team squad.

This is subjective of course, but here's my classification of those signings:

Unsuccessful:
Adel Taarabt, Cesar Sanchez, Chris Gunter, Dorian Dervitte, Gilberto, Hossam Ghaly, Jonathan Woodgate, Mido and Ricardo Rocha.

(I've added Jonathan Woodgate to this list because let's face it, the guy had an injury record that made Aquilani look like Superman. Maybe his signing was merely to placate the physio who had become lonely after Darren Anderton left.)

Successful players for Tottenham – Suited to their mid-table status:
Alan Hutton, Ben Alnwick, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Danny Murphy, David Bentley, Didier Zokora, Giovani dos Santos, John Bostock, Pascal Chimbonda, Steed Malbranque, Verdun Corluka

Successful players who could have a role in a top-six side:
Aaron Lennon, Darren Bent, Heurelho Gomes, Kevin Prince Boateng, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Younes Kaboul

The crème de la crème:
Gareth Bale, Dimitar Berbatov, Luca Modric

So what's Comolli's hit rate?

Expressed as a percentage of total signings:

Unsuccessful signings: 31%
Successful players for Tottenham – Suited to their mid-table status: 38%
Successful players who could have a role in a top-six side: 21%
The crème de la crème: 10%
Since Comolli joined Spurs, their league position has improved. They finished 5th, 5th, 11th, 8th and 4th in the league.

He convinced players to join a mid table team, and collectively they became what is now arguably an established top 6 side.

Roughly one third of the signings didn't work out, one third were 'acceptable' (for their place as a mid-table side), and the other third were good enough for a top six side (and included 3 genuinely outstanding signings).

The most positive thing to take away from this simple analysis is this: A third of Comolli's signings improved Tottenham's playing roster.

If Comolli can utilise the same powers of investigation and persuasion to bring in talent of a higher level (commensurate with Liverpool's aspirations) then he may prove to be NESV's most valuable signing of all; Liverpool will reap the benefits of his appointment in the short, medium and long term."

I would love it if he unearthed some of the gems he found when working at spurs. Just think how many of those players are still at Spurs now! {Ed002's Note - It is pretty tough to call John Bostock any sort of success at Spurs when he has not played for the club.}

"'made aquilani look like superman"

Key postions to fill. What we have is a team of superstars and squad players Superstars include:
Pepe Reina,StevieG,Suarez,Enrique,Agger,
Skyrtell,Glen Johnson,LUCAS.(These guys will walk into any team)
The core of the side is one of the best. The back 4 + GK postions are sorted.
Squad players
Bellamy,Adam,Henderson,Downing,Carroll,MAXI etc.(not too bad)
What we need is a few more superstars:
Striker (Torres is such a fool he should of stayed);3 midfielders (include 2 wingers and creative midfielder). Isn't it ironic these position are been rumoured.
I hope SUSO can break through sooner as he is a little GEM in the making
Add to this a new 72000 seater Stadium + new kit sponsor.

So I don't know why supporters are complaining. It is clear there is a project in place and requirements.

Thanks
AWS

Can we now see what KK is doing, he has been absolutely fantastic. There are only 4 postions that need to be filled. I am of the opinion we will fill 1 of them and then in the summer we will acquire the remaining 3. Also KK knows exactly who he wants and who will fill this role. This has been KK dream for may years to get LFC to the top of the summit once again.

You need 3/4 striker to cope EPL top 4. so Far we have 2 and one is out of touch and another suspended . in case of a striker injury we will suffer so bad did you agree with me ?

I can say this with great pride, I believe that we Reds fans must be the most informed in the world. Every aspect relating to the club (transfers, sponsorships, stadium matters, players, the management, commercial and other dealings, media,executive/owners, and social interactions, social responsibility etc), are all carefully reviewed and monitored by those who are PASSIONATE about the club. Though we may not see 'eye to eye' or agree on everything, at least there is scope to express ones opinion and ambitions for the club. Granted we may not be performing at a level that we would all like, or achieving the successes we all crave, but I remain positive that we will get there, it is just going to take time. I think we should all 'pat ourselves on the back' and go forth with great pride, knowing we are the best supporters in the world and support the greatest club. Fantastic, so proud my fellow Reds. It gets really frustrating reading the same rubbish about this big name signing and that big name signing! We are not just one player away from challenging for silverware and it would make absolutely no sense to splash 40 million on one player when we could spend(not saying we will) that money on a few very good players to cover our weaker areas which would make the team better. In regards to the Defoe rumour, I would be more than happy to have him over the majority of names we have been linked with and I hope a deal can be sorted(albeit at half the quoted cost).

Keep it up eds as this is a great site and the responses(even though the majority don't understand sarcasm etc) you give really make it what it is!

Messi hands in transfer request, he desperately wants to play at Anfield Road!
More than enough, guys! Accept that Liverpool won't sign any high-profile player this month and stop asking stupid questions and harping on the same string again and again. We won't buy Hazard, Cavani, nor even Rooney!

So, do we all agree that Joe Allen is better than Xavi and that sometime this week Barca will be trying to broker a swap deal ?

Or do we think the OPTA stats aren't worth the paper they are written on?

If it's the latter are you as worried as me by what from what on the outside looking in ,appears to be our reliance on these stats when deciding our transfer targets?

When we were dominating the game we used experienced scouts with an eye for talent to spot future signings........ It worked pretty well too! Not a spreadsheet in sight.

How I wish people would stop over complicating the game and relying on information provided by nerds !

The "moneyball" philosophy might have worked in america but NEWSFLASH - this isn't f***ing baseball.

Lets get back to basics !

For me a trained chimp could do what Comolli does and number crunch all day.

Better to have a Geoff Twentyman out there who actually understands the game.

Maybe I am just showing my age (40) by hankering back to the "old fashioned" methods !

Nice one John - you got me there ! You know what I mean though ! NRW

Everyone has got this stat wrong anyway.
It's Swansea's Leon Britton who tops the passing accuracy table in Europe's top 5 leagues. Not Joe Allen.
Joe Allen is in the top 10 however

Everyone has got it wrong (including me) because a number of papers reported it as Joe Allen.

You are right though, it is Britton.

The point however remains the same

Re: Brad Jones

As an Aussie my heart goes out to the bloke. Im not sure whether he married a local or English girl so that will no doubt be a factor in what his future holds. He and his family will be given as much time as it takes to get through the grieving process.

If he moves home I'm sure many an A-League club would sign him up. If he chooses to stay I'm sure he will dedicate himself to task in memory of sweet Luca.

I'd personally love to see a charity match in honour's raising funds for Leukaemia Foundation, be it a Liverpool Legends match or perhaps have Liverpool do a match against Perth Glory (A-League side here) Down Under in Brad's home city televised here and on lfctv.

Whatever you choose Brad, Reds fans stand beside you forever mate.

As an aussie and have a 3yo boy, it breaks my heart to hear his terrible news..

So proud to have an aussie at my favourite club, but what happened goes beyond this.

KIT DEAL......Liverpool have agreed a six-year kit contract with American company Warrior Sports from the end of the current season.

Warrior will produce Liverpool's home, away and third kits and the team's training wear in a deal that comes into force on June 1.

For Warrior, who have traditionally been associated with ice hockey and lacrosse in the United States, the deal represents a chance to break into the football market.

Warrior General manager Richard Wright said: "We are here to shake up the world of football".

The deal has been reported as being worth £25m a year to the Premier League giants, who will break their longstanding tie with Adidas.

Liverpool managing director, Ian Ayre said: "Liverpool FC is thrilled to be able to announce this fantastic partnership with Warrior Sports for the 2012-2013 Barclays Premier League season onwards.

"This is another landmark deal for Liverpool Football Club and once again shows the value of the club's brand globally."

Ino liverpool dont like to there business in-front of the house so to speak ! but i am slightly concerned with the lack of transfer activity.
Ino we made 2 massive signings at the end of last January window, but its obvious to myself and every other Liverpool fan that we are crying out for a striker or basically an attacking option.
Im not going to name drop like most post's on this website but I do know KK is after a striker before the end of the window 3 players have been mentioned.
On the drop side to this are we selling ? and who

Ed's you will hopefully have more information than myself and ive read basically every post on here, some ridiculous but still all are based on the same point.

Thanks for the post.

I was reading a post from Danski which talked about Carroll-Suarez as Dalglish's attempt at recreating the Keegan-Toshack partnership.

The post was very good, he had good things to say about how things are going - but I can't agree with his view that perhaps this (Keegan-Toshack mark II) experiment has failed because such an approach is outdated.

I feel that what is potentially a fine attack has been hampered for other reasons.

But looking at the Keegan-Toshock partnership is interesting.

Tactically, it can help us to better understand and pinpoint why Andy is having the problems he is having.

A major problem with Suarez-Carroll partnership is that Suarez tends to either drop deep or drift wide to go in search of the ball (often borne of necessity.) -

Carroll (eager to impress) is often too keen to link-up with him - and as a result, follows Suarez out to these wider areas, where he is largely ineffective.

A key reason why Toshack was so effective was that he knew to stay central. He was clever like that... but he was afforded that luxury. Which I will get to in a moment....

Ideally, Carroll should stay central, a-la Toshack, but he is often isolated - with little support from midfield.

Carroll seldom has runners near him - never mind breaking beyond him. Which may be another reason why he goes hunting the ball in the aforementioned areas where he is largely ineffective.

Another major difference between the two examples is that Keegan and Toshack were flanked by flying wingers on either side.

That widemen ran the wide areas, backed ably by their full backs, let Keegan concentrate on the final 3rd of the pitch, where he would play off Toshacks strengths, feeding off layoffs and knockdowns and 'dropping a few hand grenades'. He could also hang on the last man and it was the midfield's job to play him through.

Suarez is rarely afforded this luxury.

Widemen operated the wide areas, leaving the front two to concentrate on combining to score goals - crazy I know, but there you have it.

Suarez and Keegan may be similar, but such is the lack of pace, width and/or creativity in our current side (we all know it) that Suarez often drops back as he feels he must - in order to make things happen.

The lack of support from central midfield does not help either - a player like a Carroll/Toshack (if occupying the central areas as he should) needs supporting runners from central midfield as well as support from the flanks.

A target man, whether the ball is played to his head or feet, needs runners from central midfield areas too, in order to (a) get into the space they create and (b) to latch onto any layoffs, knockdowns and through-balls they manage to muster. I have mentioned widemen, but support centrally is crucial also.

Such a central attacking midfield player can also play in/link up with the front two and the widemen.

This makes the opposition defence wary of dropping deep or pushing out due to the contrasting styles of the two frontmen they are trying to control - such support from midfield is essential.
Kevin Nolan did a great job at this with Andy.

It's good to have Stevie back, he can play this central role as well as anyone. (or the right midfield role imo - what a player, he doesn't even need pace, he just owns that side.)

A shame to see him in such a defensive role on Saturday, but then, Andy and Suarez were not playing, and this way of thinking would not apply well to a Carroll/Kuyt partnership as neither has the pace or dribbling ability to stretch a defence.

Adam was also performing admirably in this supporting CM role. Lucas' injury has meant Adam has sat deeper, the loss of his support in the final 3rd has been very noticeable. This may explain recent complaining about a dip in his performances (even though some of his passing was phenomenal on Saturday - not his fault that the players receiving the passes did fu** all with them!)

To surmise:

We need Andy as the fulcrum, taking up central attacking positions in the opposition penalty area, with Suarez buzzing around him - in areas where together, they can hurt teams.

The midfield clearly need to up their game also and start offering them better support and service if this is to happen.

Downing on the left would help. The brief moments that Bellamy has played on the right with Downing on the left have coincided with some of our best football this season. That Bellamy cannot play every week is a real shame. I'm sure we'd have a lot more points.

I say 'coincided' there, but it's no coincidence imo.

Pace and natural balance, support and service from both central midfield and wide areas - along with strikers who are under unders to stay in central attacking areas in the final 3rd. These are all essential prerequisites for a successful bigman, wee man combination.

I don't think such a partnership is outdated. I just think we have not seen such a partnership in action yet - partly for the aforementioned tactical reasons and partly for personnel reasons - injuries to Gerrard, suspension of Suarez, lack of pacey alternatives out wide, Bellamy not playing each game etc etc.

BJH YNWA. (long winded as usual, but is this what others see as being wrong? We don't need major surgery, just the addition of pacey wingers and an alternative option for Suarez. Andy needs a partner with pace. Someone with pace, skill, strength and heading ability who could compliment either player would be perfect..... you'd need £35m for such a player though surely..... hehe.)

3 points on Saturday! Come on the Pool!

ps - If you read this Danski. Can I convince you that such a partnership can work? What do you think? I don't think we've seen Toshack-Keegan mark II just yet - but I still hold hope that we will soon!

But Carroll was excellent at Newcastle without pace on the wings (Barton on the right, Guiterrez on the left is only slightly pacey).
His support striker was Lovenkrands or Ameobi if i remember correctly.
So it's not all about those formations or style of player you mentioned possibly.
It might just be that Carroll does not suit us?!
We clearly tried building around him with Suarez, Downing, Adam & Henderson brought in to feed him but it hasn't happened yet...
Still time to turn it around of course.
Here's hoping!

I hear you man, thanks for the reply.

Barton gave some real quality deliveries last season for Andy - he could also pick a pass with Lovenkrands and Nolan breaking beyond Carroll. I think Gerrard could play this role too - as I intimated in my post (and he'd be better at it obviously).

At Newcastle, Gutierrez is quite quick (running in a straight line. lol) on the other flank, but whether Lovenkrands (who is very quick) or Ameobi played up with Carroll, they always stayed central, linking with the big man and being supported by the widemen.

As I said too - Nolan was always driving forward in support from the central midfield areas. I explained too, since Lucas' injury - Adam has sat deeper and we have suffered for it.

We can do what Newcastle did rather successfully I feel. But I hope that with better players around him than at Newcastle (if the system supports him properly) that he can be even better than at the Toon. We don't want to emulate their system - but to improve on it.

I hope he and Suarez form a real partnership that we can talk about in years to come like Keegan and Toshock - so that his time at the Toon upfront with Lovenkrands is just a small footnote in his career. But they must stay central as outlined in the earlier post.

As you said - theres still time to turn it around. I have patience though - I hope we have some more pace and creativity in the side (and another striker as said in the post) by the time next season rolls around. If we add some this month I'd be delighted though.

Have faith. Roar the team on against Bolton. Whilst Suarez is injured, such a system (with Bellamy available upfront) - should be used against Bolton. I look forward to seeing what happens.

I said the tactical reasons why I think it hasn't clicked with the new signings already - but they (the new signings) can all be good for us, we need more additions and increased competition. They can all be quality members of the squad. Downing on the left would help too (for reasons I stated earlier) he impressed at the start of the season. A lot of people have forgotten this.

Cheers for the post again. As you said - here's hoping!

BJH YNWA.

ps - Whisper it quietly, but is Raheem Sterling going to get some first team opportunities soon?

its seems kinda wierd to me the amount of youth we keep poaching but history has it only two attacking minded players owen and gerrard made it to first team in the last 15 years . its high time kenny uses suso , sterling , and morgon atleast give them a run or else they will just remain potential gone like pacheco

I tend to agree with you, but to be fair to KK and SC, I've never seen the youngsters train nor play against/with the first team and I have to believe those two (and many others) have.

Why does everybody think we should just simply chuck these players in? Nobody has made it since Owen/Gerrard because they haven't been good enough perhaps? There's a reason why Rafa completely overhauled the academy, judge in these next few years when we actually have quality players coming through.

19 Jan 2012 02:10:59
it's leon britton who has a better pass completion rate than xavi and iniesta, not allen

He makes 200 odd passes a game, Xavi 500 a game the difference in % of completion is 0.3. I will admit Swansea play nice football but this is a great example of journo's picking their flavour of the month build him up to knock him down me thinks. Who would you rather have?

Apparently so...

How is that confusing? We bought the lad off Sporting because he's quality, young and scored against us in the NextGen competition, he's a midfielder... We've enquired about David Texeira off Groningen amongst other striker, we'd be stupid to just focus our efforts on one striker, i'm sure Kenny knows he need a proper finisher, after all every week he says we need to be more clinical, if the players he has wont do the job he asks he'll bring someone in that will do the job.

Confusing b/c of the last names mate, not common and a one letter difference. had me thinking we were only in for the one we bought.

Hi eds,
Great site just wanted to ask lfc fans.
Do you really think this guy David Texeira will be good enough for liverpool ?
He only has 7 goals in 15 games in holland which to me is very poor considering kuyt had nearly a goal a game when he played there and Suarez had more then that in his last season over there and both are very good players but not goal scorers and that is what we badly need so i think this guy david Texeira would be lucky to get 5 or 6 goals between now and end of season to me this is a no no

Considerin David Texeira is 19 years old, i dont think 7 goals in 15 games is a bad return, look at this way, its betta than any player we got currently! Even Suarez only has 5 goals

Carb

How do you expect anybody know whether he'll be good or not? How many folks here have crystal balls? Stop asking silly questions, dude.

Hi Eds.
WRT the Stadium, is the older version being looked at (vers 1), I recall that only had a capacity of 55K. Or was it the 60K one. Did the naming rights deal with Coke not happen, was it due to recent 'negative reports in the media'. {Ed005's Note - I'm not sure its something you'll have to research. I think it was 60k myself like.}

19 Jan 2012 01:03:42
I forget when Suarez signed in last January window. It was late in the window if I am correct? Maybe same strategy this year. Obviously he won't be any where near Suarez class though, but perhaps another 'improvement'.

LFC sign deal with Warrior sports. What happened to adidas? Not really juicy gossip here, but I have heard of Adidas, but not of Warrior.....Looked up the website for fun. Looks like a small time hockey and lacrosse supplier. Did Adidas 'pull out' due to Suarez thing? Maybe NESN want to support the locals. They are situated in New England. {Ed001's Note - the deal was done long before, obviously you haven't done your research very thoroughly.}

Warrior sports are all about top of the line sporting goods dont worry yourself mate

There was meant to be a couple of better offers, than the Adidas offer mate. The Warrior offer was the best, it's double what Adidas, were giving us. Now it's 2nd only to Barcelona, as the biggest shirt sponsors, in the world. Even bigger than the Mancs, which is funny. They call us a 'small' and 'mediocre' club, what's this deal make them? Lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Adidas had to start somewhere too...

I think the company is from Boston and the new owners brought a better deal than the one we had with adidas. This was already in the news like almost a year.

HK

To the original poster... £12m or £25m a year, which would you take? This deal was basically done in June last year, its worth £150m over 6 years, great bit of business by the club and more revenue for us at the end of the day. The way i see it £25m (from Warrior)+£20m(from Standard Chartered)=£45m per season pays our players wages... On average our first team squad would earn around £60k a week, (some players such as Gerrard would earn £140k, others such as Kelly would earn £25k a week) so that £45m a season would be helpful in paying the wages of the first team squad for the next 6 seasons... Ticket money, merchandise, other sponsors (Carlsberg, Honda etc) and Tv money basically go towards new signings with a little help from John Henry and Co. aswell :D Simple explanation i know but you get the jist.

Rocky

Warrior are based in Michigan, and although they are primarily a lacrosse & hockey sports equipment manufacturer, they do also make normal trainers & sports fashion clothing such as t-shirts, hoodies, caps, etc.
As for the small bit, they are actually owned by New Balance, I'm sure you've heard of them? And guess where New Balance are based? Why that would be Boston of course!

Redjinal

Warrior are definately not a smalll business.

KT!

Think this deal is awesome. If the reports are true that its £25 mil a year which is the largest in the country and JH wants us to spend what we generate thats £25 mil for transfers a season. Looks good, they're also owned by New Balance I think so no small player.

KopIdol YNWA

Thanks for the answer(s). I follow LFC quite closely, and guess I missed that one. Or, as the ed put it, I didn't do enough research? Apologies, I thought we were all on the same side here? I ask a question and everybody jumps in to ridicule a question. Forgive me for asking.

Thought I'd start a chat about the (supposed) interest in the lads at Swansea (Allen and Sinclair) - to see what others think.

Allen is a lot like Jack Wilshere as a footballer imo. He's very positive with the ball and has common sense on the pitch that is beyond his tender years.

Just pass, pass, pass - sounds simple, but this is rare in England.

He could prove to be a good signing - depending on the cost. But do we really need another CM who is primarily attack-minded? We have Gerrard, Adam, Henderson and Shelvey already - never mind the youths/reserves.

Or is Allen seen as being capable of filling the Lucas role? That is the only way it makes sense in my eyes.

The (rumoured) bid of £5m for Sinclair btw? Could that ever be true? He would be a steal at £5m... but they'll want a lot more - closer to £15m i'd guess.

We need the pace badly though, and he'd be a great signing for the future.

We still need more pace in the side/squad - I'm not suggesting that he should be the last wideman we sign either, but he'd be a great start and an excellent option in the squad for the long-term.

I'd be surprised if Swansea let them go though. Surely they stand to gain more financially by keeping them, certainly till the summer.

What do you lot think?

BJH YNWA.

ps - Shame the Hoillet Rumour has gone quiet... he'd be another great option too. Maybe in the summer...

I don't see any way in the world goes anywhere for 5m. I'd guess your 15m+ number is much closer to accurate, particularly during this window. For me personally, I think they're both good, possibly even great, prospects, but for the reasons you mention Sinclair makes more sense for us than Allen I think. Either way, I can't see Swansea letting either go (and certainly not both) unless ridiculous money is involved.

It looks that way unnamed poster. The new kit deal is encouraging news as far as a transfer kitty for the summer goes though (1st June I think it kicks in).

Gonna keep an eye on these two for sure. Thanks for the reply.

BJH YNWA.

Hi Eds and fellow Reds.
With all the transfer speculation doing the rounds, I got to thinking.
In terms of "Foreign Players" (not from the UK or Ireland) joining LFC over the last 10-15 years, I was wondering:
1. Where those players were from (German, French etc).
2. How long they actually stayed with the club.

Relocation is a tricky thing (I have done it myself a few times), one has certain expectations and needs, and if those are not met successfully, generally speaking one never really 'settles', and by implication is always looking for the chance to move back home, or elsewhere.
We are currently linked with a number of players, from different football leagues, countries and cultures.
If one were to analyse this, which players have been the best at 'intergrating and settling in Liverpool itself'.
I look forward to your views and opinions.
Looking forward to a great finish to the season, and success in both cups.
Regards to all, Shankly's Red Army.

I think it's really depends on the person, however no Italians please.

HK

If we're throwing around sweeping generalisations.... then why not!

What players with non-UK nationalities settle at LFC you say! This is what I have learned in my 17 years as a fan.

(I was only replying for fun, but the cultural responses to Scouse living are pretty interesting. This may not be very politically correct - but again, it was only meant as fun. Any offence was unintended.)

Scandinavians seem to settle well on Merseyside. Such as Henchoz, Riise, Hyppia, Agger, Molby. Perhaps they enjoy the mild weather.

Spaniards have a 3-seasons-at-most merseyside tolerance limit. (not Pepe though, although he does gets twitchy sometimes when the BBC european weather service shows all those little suns on the map hovering over the Mediterranean...)

Germans are good professionals. (but we already knew that, didn't we.)

Don't sign Italians. (they will fuss about the lifestyle, the weather - and eventually realise what they really miss is the caring bosum of fair Italia... and Mama's fine cooking.)

Players from the former Soviet bloc and wider E. Europe seldom complain. No surprises there! Real men! Not soft capitalists! (Germans of a formerly Eastern persuasion also apply here.)

Frenchmen shouldn't even bother turning up.... (especially if they're the next Zidane, Desailly, Henry, Platini, Tigana etc etc.)

Africans (all the ones I can think of... barring Grobbelaar) will arrive as World Cup stars and then turn out to be rather rubbish, eventually pissing off Jamie and Carra with their dancing and their generally carefree attitude - causing bitter schizms in the squad.

Jamie does not like people who are happy - particularly when we lose.... Nor does he like people dancing either - particularly when we lose. There will be trouble, mark my words.

S Americans - For so long they never signed for Liverpool - but it seems that the future may be S.American.

The Uruguayans, Lucas & Aurelio, Insua and Maxi - this lot don't complain much either.

Perhaps (just a theory) they know that they are in a fortunate position in relation to some of the poverty suffered by many in their home countries. Bow your head in shame Mr. Mascherano.

(Although I may just have written that so I could follow it up with a dig at Mascherano.)

Bitching about the weather might seem a bit 'rich' for them too. A religious lot too. Humble and all that......

I did say sweeping generalisations btw. I'm sure they all attend mass five times a day though - as do I.

Being Irish and Catholic I also have 27 children.... thats what God wanted. I hope I have more. A blessing, to be sure..... which brings me to -

Irishmen (Like me!)

They will drink alcohol most likely..... sometimes they will drink too much (I know).

So they should settle very well in the UK.

But LFC needs Irishmen - they have never won the league without at least one in the side.

The Irishman will settle well on Merseyside as Liverpool is a home from home for many. (except Robbie for whatever reason)

Which leads me to the strange phenomenon that is the hybrid nationality of:

Scouse/Irish -

Think about it.

Carra, Gerrard, Martin Kelly, Flanno, Robbo (Jeez do dubs think up these nicknames?) Rooney, Barton.....

Doesn't every scouser have an Irish granny!? We could have nicked them all you know!

Expect an aggressive streak, or more accurately - 'a tendancy to explode in moments of crazed rage' from the average Scouse-Irish player.

Looking at the above Scouse-Irish hybrids - the 'angry Irishman' gene is still strong in many cases.

If alcohol is involved - people may be punched. Cigars may be shoved in eyes.
Front page headlines may be written. Ronnie Whelan may stick the head in someone.....

The scouse-Irish player has a fire that burns within his soul - one that cannot be extinguished.....

Take a bow John Aldridge (v Mexico at US '94) for perhaps the most masterful display/contribution of fiery Scouse-Irishness ever seen on the world stage.

He was a trail-blazer that man.

A young Rooney (if he was watching) must have thought 'this man is truly great'...

No doubt young Wayne went to bed that night and dreamed that one day he would play in the world cup - and get sent off for booting some man up the hole...... just 'cos the guy was pissing him off....... and get dragged off the pitch by his teammates whilst shouting at the ref like a lunatic -

'ill rip your fuc*ing head off!!! aaaaarrrrgggh'.

The poor Mexicans.... if only the officials hadn't made Aldo so angry that day........ ten thousand Mexicans could not have stopped an angry Aldo (there's that dub nickname stuff again). Because where an angry Scouse-Irishman is concerned - defeat is not an option.

It is also worth noting that the Scouse-Irishman will also not like to dance. He will also (when forced to dance at the Christmas party) not dance very well.

Scouse-Irishmen are very much like plain old Irishmen in this regard. (contrary to the widely held belief that the spirit of Michael Flatleys 'feet of flames' resides within the boots of all true Irishmen..).

Finally, it is also worthy to note that Carra prefers this type of player to happy-go-lucky dancing types.

Quality this post - love it, so true
Big Red Ed

That is the post of the year winner! well done sir.

Very good post but *pedant alert* Henchoz is not Scandinavian. He's from Switzerland (between France, Germany, Austria & Italy on the map)

The Swiss also provided us with Phillippe 'made of glass' Degen

Lol. Thanks for the comments. Henchoz is Swiss too! Very slack...... sorry. I can explain though.

I think of him and Hyppia as one single entity at times though! Thats why I get confused.

Like Al Pacino and Robert de Niro.....

I've seen all their films (well, a lot of them) - but I still always get confused about which one was in what film....

BJH YNWA (or something like that....)

ps - Watch 'Dog Day Afternoon' if you've never seen it. Classic - you'll thank me for the recommendation... but I can't quite remember which one is in it.......
Thats all from film corner for this week!

When does Pachecho come back from loan? we could use someone technical and creative like him upfront, also signed that petition, wish there was more I could do.

I'll save ed2's fingers for him! He won't be coming back because he was a bit bone idle in training.

There is mate. Get your family to sign it, friends as well. As many as you can think of

Please eds can we post the #kevin Williams link on the hour every hour please for the next 23 hrs as we need 23000 more signatures. Please!
Great work by the way lads.

Give Kevin Williams his inquest under section 13 of the coroners Act, we have all the evidence under this section but keep getting refused.

Responsible department: Attorney General's Office

Kevin Williams died in the Hillsborough disaster in1989, Kevin's Inquests were riddled with coruption, suppressing of vital evidence and perverting the course of JUSTICE, Kevin did not die from Traumatic Asphixia or in an accident I will not pick up his death certificate until we get the course of death put right and the accidental death verdict struck down. Kevin does not relate to the 3.15pm cut off point.I want a new inquest were all the witnesses will be called to give evidence so the jury will know exactly what happened to Kevin at Hillsborough. I have all the evidence under section 13 of the coroners act and have been refused 3 times by the attorney generals office, I want the Attorney General to look at the evidence again and send Kevin's case back to the divisional court recomending a new inquest into the death of my son.

Just a comment from a concerned long-time fan, can Liverpool please just sign a striker that can score. If we converted 25% more of our current chances, we would be in the top four and talking about a good season. Please sign a striker now.
