Hey ed whats your opinion of the young lad Joao Carlos Teixeira looked very good for sporting but was hoping to hear your opinon on him, also do you know when hes fit ?

cheers ed {Ed001's Note - I am not sure when he is fit, sorry. I do like what I saw of him for Sporting, he looked a top class youngster in a team that destroyed ours. Exactly the kind of player we should be producing rather than buying though.}

Given his age and the nominal fee we paid Ed. I'm happy we snapped him up.

Looks a potentially really good player, who could arguably be on our bench next season.

this is more of a personal opinion vs actual opinion. if Cavani was to head to the PL i believe Liverpool would be the one to get him. Most players do not like playing against each other if they can help it. THAT BEING SAID i don't expect him to make a move to the EPL more Likely Spain and Real Madrid. I do Expect something big is up if Suarez is to donate more of his time to Liverpool especially after he said he would stay. we do need to push for CL next year to keep him. he says it hurts not to be there but he can handle it. so i do expect us to make one high profile signing. a couple of younger ones (20 to 22 age) the rest will be additives to our youth. Remember we have a humongous amount of reserves moving up next year. especially some that will be ready for loan's. i do expect silva to move up for RW along with kuyt to stay as long as he and silva can challenge for that spot. suso and sterling will either be loaned out for half season loans or play every couple of games for us. the fuure is bright

Hey Ed's, I know at this time it is merely speculation, but I think Dalglish should step down. I know we've had a great go at the domestic cups but i think our league position is really disappointing. I think if it wasn't for the fact that it's Dalglish at the helm then, there would be a lot more pressure on our manager. That being said, if Kenny was to leave, who could you see as a possible replacement? Again I know it's early days but any ideas? I personally would love to see Rafa back at Anfield. Thank you for your insight. {Ed001's Note - I would rather give Kenny more time, there is no way I would want Rafa back at the club as a manager.}

Kenny step down more like you throw yourself of a bridge. if this is were we are at with a work in progress then i cant wait to see the finished article, some of the football being played this year has been excellent from us. we will get better as we grow as a team.

gee man

I agree with ED01 above, Kenny is the 'right manager for LFC at this time'.
Rafa had his chance, left things more in a mess than what he found them.
Honestly, It really astounds me that soo many fans want Rafa, Torres etc back.
Come on, that's history, its time to move on now, 'get your head out the sand, and march forward'.
Pumpkin Express.

You've said what most of us think gee man, i just saw red when i saw the original post, and my reply just wouldn't have been posted due to it's abusive content, it's so frustrating just how impatient people are, but at the end of the day it's just people looking at stats and league tables rather than watching the matches. Not to mention their ignorance at just what it takes to build a successful football club, but it'd just be nice if more people in the world had a brain wouldn't it? it'd be boring, but nice...

Red7.

Kenny took over to bring us back the old Liverpool, in my opinion we have showed glimpses of that this season, so if you can't see the good things that are happening, then you don't deserve to be cheering in the near future when we are actually challenging for top honours. thank you very much

Someone said..rafa is a history..and torres is alos a history...the truth is we are still living in the history....and thats what we say to others..you cant buy our history...

But the FUTURE is red

Get woy back! ;)

I know its only twitter but did any one know that Ozil is an LFC fan he tweets about us alot i would love to sign Mesut Ozil
Pistolero14

I think we would all love to sign Ozil, we'd like to sign Iniesta too, but they're both pretty unlikely.

It's not his real twitter account.

I don't think Ozil has twitter, just a fan club on twitter

Hi Ed just seen on talksport that Tony barret said we will likely have around 30m to spend in the summer.. Do you think that's enough? I can't see us getting a good winger and striker for that. Unless we sell some of our players {Ed001's Note - if spent wisely it is plenty, spending lots is no guarantee of success.}

If it were your decision what would you do this summer? ins and outs. {Ed001's Note - sell the players out on loan, except Toni Silva, who I would put into the first team squad along with Adorjan and Suso. Johnson would go as well and Maxi and Aurelio. In would come Isla, then depending on money I would look at Soldado and De Jong + Ramirez or Matty Phillips, again depending on money. I would also look at two South Americans at Napoli - Eduardo Vargas, who is a special talent and Gargano.}

Get the youngsters on 3 x Weetabix each morning !
If we can introduce say Silva and Suso, or one of the others, that would be as good as spending £10-15m maybe.
A couple of outs, two or three in, and a kid or two introduced would be OK.
However, it's about what our rivals will spend as well. Hmmm.
The Real KB

Did vargas not just sign for them in january? {Ed001's Note - yes, which is why I said look, rather than sign.}

When kenny gives the youngsters a chance we fans also must. i am ashamed at the reception henderson has got. he is u-21 captain of england and to play at his level at that age is incredible. i would hate to see the stick that suso adorjan or coady may get after a nightmare debut

I agree with you ed on some of those points, the only one I'm not sure on is Matty phillips, I think Sinclair would be a better option, and he only has 12 months left on contract I believe. Do you know if we've been watching Gargano at all? {Ed001's Note - Sinclair has more attitude and is not, in my opinion as good for what we need. We are among his suitors, Juve and Inter like him too, but Suarez is supposed to have recommended him to the club, hence us checking him out. I can't see us making a move for him though with him being 27.}

Lastly, have you realised that we always play inverted wingers? If we carry on doing that surely there's no point keeping Andy carroll as he thrives on crosses and he just isn't getting any decent service. He's been good of late but I think we either need to play to his strengths or get a proper goalscorer in. I don't think the system is suiting his strengths

Eds,
you write soldado AND de jong.
Do you mean we should go for both or just one of the two + ramirez or phillips? {Ed001's Note - I meant to say choose between them sorry, depending on budget.}

Thats why we need matt phillips i guess? not sinclair? never seen matt phillips but heard 1 of the ed says hes a good crosser?

Kaizer {Ed001's Note - quick too.}

I wud prefer matt philips to ramirez. Philips is a right footed right winger, n that is what we need. Dont think ramirez can handle the epl's physicality.
Indian Buzzer

Ed, you said that you would choose between de jong or soldado depending on budget. If we sold kuyt do you think we could possibly sign both? Josh {Ed001's Note - I doubt it, I wouldn't expect both myself.}

30m nowhere near enough

19 Mar 2012 21:45:31
Ed, do you believe a special player will fill our No.10 shirt in the summer?

A player with great technical ability that can play both wide or in the hole, can finish, dribble well, create space and can provide that little bit of magic and final ball with calm head

Is Gaston Ramirez the player? {Ed001's Note - I do believe we will try and sign a bit of magic, so to speak, this summer. That certainly seems to be the aim, to find that player who can do something special and out of the ordinary.}

By this ed, do you mean someone of Suarez's kind of quality? Surely there aren't many of him going about for reasonable prices? {Ed001's Note - that's why we employ scouts, to find them at a reasonable price, before everyone knows about them.}

Lucas Moura would be an excellent addition, can play left, right, behind the forwards or up front, he's fast, skillfull, can score goals and would make a great no.10.
Denny

Too dear to risk. i would prefer to see ramirez in all honesty for no. 10 the youths are still a bit young yet to fill big boots

Eds,
What is gaston ramirez' preferred position actually?
Is he a striker? Or a central midfielder? Or a winger? {Ed001's Note - attacking midfielder.}

Marko marin for 10!!

I have a respect for Stoke fans as they get behind there team, I was bored and went on there fan forum site [oakcake] and some of the comments on Liverpool's
request to not play on the Hillsborough anniversary quite hard. They seem to have forgot to have a little respect for the families and don't remember that Kenny was there, Its not just about us fans. Its most likely only a small number of there fans, but not nice a thread to have on there forum.

CJ

The Stoke fans on that site act like complete morons.

The majority of them swear in almost every post and wish pain on opposition players, wouldn't give them the time of day tbh.

Does anyone know any Youtube channels where you can watch the reserve games?...I've found a couple but they are usually highlights for 5 mins and maybe a week after the game is actually played.

GuvTOB {Ed001's Note - have you tried the official site?}

17, secondary school,biggest exams of my life in June, no job how does one fund the monthly subscription?...bearing in mind my parents might take away sky sports cuz i get nothing done on weekends.

GuvTOB {Ed001's Note - ah ok, sorry mate, didn't realise.}

17 in secondary school? That isn't possible, is it?

Evening Eds and fellow reds , great result yesterday,and starting to look promissing for fabrees as well . just a quick question about ozil ,there been some talk today about him but what is his natrual position . cheers psv {Ed001's Note - CAM really, though he tends to drift in from the right wing for Germany and Real Madrid.}

I think he can comfortably play in any advanced position.

Ino am gna get alot of s**t 4 this but dident ronaldo say loads of crap bowt how he loved and wanted to stay at utd b4 he went just a thought but wen players sign new contracts these days makes me think its just to boost the asking pricez UP just a thought STEMLOCC

Sorry mate but i could'nt understand a single word.

MR EM

I'm going to pretend you havn't spelt prices with a z!

I know that I am going to get a lot of nonsense but didn't Christiano Ronaldo talk about how he loved United and wanted to stay before he left. It occurs to me that when players sign new contracts these days it is a ploy to increase the asking price. STEMLOCC - the one thing that you can say about your post is that not a lot of thought and certainly no intelligence has gone into the writing of it.
Dutchmal

Ronaldo is an arrogant bellend !

19 Mar 2012 20:28:42
Ed, you say Arsenal are interested in Johnson, where would that leave Sagna? Does he want to leave or do they believe Johnson is better?

KT! {Ed001's Note - neither, he is wanted as well, it helps that he can play on the left and their current left backs are injury prone.}

Hopefully Kelly carries on putting in good performances while Johnson is injured, when he gets back he might want to try harder to fight off the competition.
~
KT!

Id b suprised if arsenal spend wot we'd be after on sombody johnsons age they invest in younger players cant see them going for him really, specially if he wants big wages as well

I wonder what his contract will say !
KJS

I think Johnson is good at going forward as good as any wing back in england but he cannot defend. Kelly is younger on less money and can do both.

Red raj

Johnson is better than kelly...you must be blind if you cant see it, honestly...kelly's first touch is really poor...he can defend, no doubt, but johnson gives the team what we need, a bit of flair!

19 Mar 2012 20:25:31
Arsenal will sell van persie to your feeder club city and replace him with heskey in the summer and then you losers will be mid table next season. Is it not about time you fancy dans won something??

Andy LFC

What?

Fail. .

19 Mar 2012 20:17:53
I have heard they are closing the emirates down and opening a library, they are just concerned that there will be a big increase in the noise level

JJ LFC

Just swap the name of the stadium and post the same 'joke' on different sites, thats your game eh! ; )

On a similar note where were the L'pool fans on Sunday? I coulnt hear them over those noisy Stoke followers!

Gav

Jj lfc ho,ho,ho,ha,ha,ha,how funny and original are you,straight out of bob monkhouse,s lost joke book,lmao(laughing at ya jj not with ya).what is funny though,ive noticed over the last few years the younger gooners are getting quite vocal and now, dare i say it,the emirates is starting to sound like anfield used to sound 10/12 years ago,unfortunatly for you jj,anfield now sounds like highbury sounded 10/12 years ago.now that is funny lol

19 Mar 2012 20:14:41
So Mesut Ozil is a Liverpool fan by the looks of things...he's shown alot of love fo LFC on his Twitter @Mesut0ezil maybe a possibilty of him becoming a Red in the future?

Along with Lavezzi & Javi Martinez and if those three come to Anfield I will have a big fat smile on my face,

What did he say?

Does anyone know what Suarez kisses on his wrist?

Square tomato

No but I've wondered about that before

I think (please correct me if im wrong someone) he has a tattoo on his wrist of his daughter/wife's name, so just a show of affection really.

Its the name of his daughter i think

A tatoo of his daughter's name.

He's got his daughters name tattoed on his wrist

So MIFFED with BBC Radio 5 Live and their news story re Luis Suarez being happy at Liverpool. Why oh why does the story revolve around 'in the wake of the 8 match ban for comments on the field in October'...

It sickens me to continue to hear this being a core strand of the story, was it something I missed. Every time the players name is mentioned out of the context of scoring is attached to - 'following the 8 match ban'

SP your journalistic nouse should have a view, when can we hope to have this finally slip off the media agenda...

Great to see the support coming in now from everyone for big Andy, we as liverpool supporters are always credited for giving players and managers more time than other clubs do but i do think with andy there was alot of us fans who seen him at newcastle and wanted instant success at liverpool, but now were all forgeting the pricetag and the criticism and can all see that week by week by week he is improving, his touch is improving, his timing is improving, his link up play is improving and i guess thats all we ask for, so credit to all us fans for showing are class in getting right behind our players and our team.

scouse simon

Having Carroll in the side is like playing with ten men. Did you actually watch the game yesterday?

But it is remarkable how Liverpool fans support their players. And it is to their credit.

Are you being serious?? Carroll is total crap. I don't care that he ain't scoring but he is so lazy and immobile. He useless and thats that.

Neil p

Sorry, I have to agree with the second post...

I think Andy's game is simply knock-ons with his head and a whacking hard left foot shot! I don't see anything else...

He's not a what some call a 'footballer' in terms of ball at feet and making things happen. In fact, he looks uncomfortable with the ball at his feet and I'm always worried he's going to give it away.

On top of that, people say he's strong but he's not winning that much at the moment up front with his head , mainly giving away fouls... but that will come with experience as he's being played well by defenders at the moment.

Get behind the lad and let's see if he improves and can fit in to a system, you never know!

It never fails to amaze me the persistance of fans like yourself possess, fans who no-matter what will do there upmost to criticise or put down other teams or players, but as i mentioned in my original post, fans like us have class, fans like yourself (whoever you are) certainly do not.

scouse simon

Neil P, how can you say AC is lazy? Do you actually watch him? He is always tracking back and covers more miles per game than any other Liverpool player. So before ya go slating players get your facts right.
Tizer red

I am not skating him at all. As I see it the lad is lazy and doesn't do enough for me compared to suarez, bellamy and dirk who work their socks off. It's just my opinion but it ceases to amaze me that other people can't see it and believe the lad is going to be a success when he clearly isn't. But that's my opinion and I do appreciate that we all have different views.

Fair play TIZER RED mate, spot on

scouse simon

Good to know that your not skating him! how is he supposed to play against qpr?

I bet you were one of the supporters saying lucas was crap, give the big lad time he'll come good

gee man

19 Mar 2012 18:20:39
Mario Gomez couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo a few seaons ago now look at him. Andy Carroll will come good.

Marc

The problem is: do we have a "few seasons" before Carroll comes good? We are not Bayern, who can basically count on finishing in the top 2 every year.

We are in a different situation.

Unless we are going to get rrelegated or a new manager come in and decides to get rid of him then yes mate we hav got a few season. building a squad takes time as does someone who has to change his playing style as he is not the main focus of the team as he was back at the toon. i wouldn't expect this team to be challenging for major honours for maybe another season yet if you want intant success then maybe city is the team for you. i am just happy we have one trophy in the bag in the semi's for another and yes our league position could be better but if we go on a run then i would be happy with 5th and 2 cups.
huddz red

The reason why gomez is doing better now is that bayern bought him a smaller cow and a bigger banjo

He has Robben and ribery to provide the crosses

Question.
That lad Jelavic (Everton), how many goals has he got, worked hard against Sunderland in FA.
Compare his movement and energy and positional play, against that of AC!. Did LFC miss a trick here?.

Why do people who disagree with criticism of a Liverpool player urge the critic to support City? Can't you defend the player in question?

We have not won the title in almost a quarter of a century. If we were glory-hunters, don't you think we would have left a long time ago?

No expensive signing will get a "few seasons" in a top EPL club. They suck up wages, depreciate in value, and potentially person the development of other players.

Carroll is the "main focus". Why do you thing we paid 35m for him - so he could be useful coming off the bench in the last ten minutes? Why do you think we paid 20m for Downing - to provide crosses for Bellamy?

Eds.....Couple of questions if you'll indulge me...
Q1. We now have Wembley Stadium on our "Favourites" list and already we know how to get there. Do you acknowledge that Sunderland/Liverpool/Everton fans should be allowed the luxury of playing the Semi-Final closer to home?......I know that Wembley needs to fleece fans but it's ridiculous and takes away the "special-ness" of the Final.
Q2. When will the scheduled League game with Fulham now take place? Also, what time k.o. is the semi?...I suspect 5pm 'cos it's Grand National Day!
Q3. If we get to the Final the Chelsea home game will have to be re-arranged. Do we know of any provisional arrangements for the new date?
It's great to support a successful cup-team but I need a lot of notice due to work.
ANFIELDPETE {Ed001's Note - 1. Yes, the semi final at Wembley is a disgrace. It should be purely for finals, semis should return to a neutral venue as close to mid-distance between the competing teams as possible. I think the gloss has been taken off the final massively.
2. Not sure and not sure, yet. Neither have been confirmed, but I do expect the game to be a late kick off to accommodate the National.
3. I thought the final had been returned to be the final date of the English season and would not involve any league games being changed?}

Allow me to to put my two pence worth to your mention of the semi-final being held at Wembley.

As the original poster and the Ed state, i too think it's pathetic holding a semi at Wembley and has definitely watered down the extravagance of the final.

Ed, do you have any idea who to contact to complain about it?

Thanks

Crowman {Ed001's Note - the FA, but it would be a waste of time, it is just about money and paying for Wembley.}

Ed, I hope your right on the last one, as I am travelling from Ireland for the Chelsea match, but i still think the Fa Cup Final is the 5th of may and if we get there both games will clash. {Ed001's Note - you are right, I checked it and it is something to do with finishing the season early due to the Euros. So the Chelsea game will be a midweek one now.}

Thanks ED01......appreciate the feedback.
Personally, I don't feel comfortable with changes in tradition.
The FA Cup Final @ 3pm (Sat) on BBC1.
The Ashes cricket live on BBC1.
The Grand National (Sat 4pm BBC1)
Also, Rugby,Athletics, Boxing, Darts, Snooker, etc.
I don't mind competition but it seems that the sports-lovers of this "great nation" are being held to ransom.
I concede that it's brilliant that any game, any fight, any race can ultimately be viewed on-line(eventually). But live sports coverage has become the "money-shot" and, with adverts, can be lucrative!
The Olympics will be an advertiser's dream and we'll also get tonnes of politically-positive s**t from wannabe Local MP'S.
The billions spent on this London party will absorbed by the rest of the country.
The long-term gains will go to London. Any losses will be shared.
London Olympics....arrogant cockney t**ts!

The North has had huge regeneration you muppet

Londoners do pay 21% of all taxes collected in uk lets not forget that.

Us Londoners also paid an extra tax through our rates for the Olympics for the past three years!

I know I have a bias, but a player of Hoilett's age and ability on a free is a no-brainer. He has improved every year since his debut. I like Maxi and Dirk; but if both are to leave, someone like Hoilett has to be one of two to come in. If we have a youngster who can take the other spot, then all is good. If there is money available this summer the bulk of it should go toward a forward and a right midfielder. I'd be comfortable with Downing, Henderson and Adam coming off the bench next year, but we urgently need two top performers at the aforementioned positions just to compete. I don't think Hoilett is elite just yet, but as a squad player he makes a lot of sense.

Sorry for asking, what is Hoiletts age?. {Ed003's Note - 23 I think?}

anyone else think that we should look to move reina on? old, and seems to be making more and more mistakes always been a big fan but it might be time if a decent offer is made thoughts?
{Ed001's Note - old??}

Sell Reina, Vorm from Swansea and still have 10m left over...

I would of thought getting some decent competition as a reserve to keep him on his toes would be the better option, as i too have noticed he is making quite a few errors which i put down to him not being maybe as sharp has he should be at times

Put Andy Carroll in the nets, and Pepe goes to striker !
Lol.
The Real KB

Old? He's 28 I think, a baby in goalkeeping terms! He could be our no 1 for 10 more years!

Jimbo

Kuyt did say Carroll's our best out-feild keeper -McMenemy

Reina is 29, which is not even middle-aged, yet alone old for a goalie. He could easily be at the top of his game for another five years. Why on earth would we want so start messing around with the one stable and promising part of our team (i.e. the defence) when we need to be taking a serious look at our midfield and attack? -SH-

If it aint broke, don't fix it. he's one of the best keepers in the country, come off it

You guys crazy? Reina isn't only our 1st choice keeper, he's our third captain behind Carra, arguably has the best distribution of any GK in the world and has a burning love and passion for the club.

Reina go ???? who on earth is posting this rubbish ? he is, has been and will continue to be one of the best keepers on the planet, he's our future captain, excellent role model for the kids and all round top bloke

I have a feeling this must be another teams fan on a windup looking for us all to go yeah hes sh"t then laugh at us for it.

OLD! jeeeesus, Mark Schwarzer is well older, as is Freidel, and they're both class, so Pepe's got an easy 10 years in him.

hey eds

i know you have talked about cavani before but please answer

suarez has came out and said he wants to stay at liverpool so if cavani comes he nows he has suarez and coates who are 2 of his international team mates.

also i think we could afford cavani if we only go for youngsters and/or free transfers other than him

and surley he will get more wages at liverpool thank napoli?

finally i now he wants champions league but we have europa for the time being and with him i think we can get champions league {Ed001's Note - but he could get a lot more at Palermo or Chelsea or Madrid. So, if wages are his motivation, we can forget him, unless you know him personally (or are him) you can't be 100% sure who he will end up at. But I would bet one of the 3 I have mentioned or PSG are probably ahead of us in the queue, if I had to put my money on it. Only time will tell though.}

Or Malaga.....

"The Irritation of King Kenny"

The media? Bah! Who needs 'em?
Anyway, onto more luscious pastures: Suarez states that he is to stay. Good news considering he sparkled yesterday. Bad news in the sense that he will sparkle intermittently without a 'proper' strike partner.

I quite like Andy Carroll; like a player who can find others and lay off the ball to them in areas that can damage the opposition. Hang on, we've got one ...... Steven Gerrard. A loose intro I know but we should look at our options up front for next season.

Kuyt is pushing all the time and this 'tireless tag' of his doesn't seem so apposite now. He is now more of a cameo role player. A man coming on to turn a game, a bit like Bellamy. We should be pleased to have them both. Yet we lack a front runner to keep pace with (literally) Suarez and weigh in with goals. If we have him - name him! We don't and this is the area I would like to see us strengthen.

Past readers of "The Madness of King Roy" will know I am critical of the endless wishlists on here. The written masturbatory tosh that seems delight so many posters. I prefer to discuss rather than ask: Cavani has been mentioned and so was Podolski, but we don't seem to have settled on a credible name so far to help LS.

Our history suggests a 'big man/small man' is the way forward. I don't agree with that. I prefer to see a fast runner similar to LS to support and work on his own too. Oh for a Bellamy five years younger or a faster Kuyt with less miles on the clock. I wonder if a sort of Suso style player (maybe not) might fill that role or Morgan, but then they are still kids. I do agree that at this stage on their and our development we need a man with some miles under his belt. That player is Daniel Sturridge.

I've broken for a new paragraph as the mockers in The Flying Albatross in Gateacre or The Yellow Buffalo in Crosby crack into action after spluttering over their Merlot or lager. But hey guys - he seems to be the ideal support for LS. "We won't get him! He's not gonna leave Chelski!" I hear you say. Think again - he isn't the first choice upfront so far with both Torres (yes, still ...) and Drogba taking the front places. It's a situation that has already prompted Romelu Lukaku to want to go out on loan. I wonder if we should resurrect a move for DS or ........ push for a deal with Lukaku.

The big Belgian (remember the posters on here last year that called him one of 'the three big black lads at Chelsea'? Oh so pre-Suarez that comment!) would certainly stand up to any physical test even if he does need to learn how not to run down alleys. DS would be ideal for LS and the man I would plump for.

It's all conjecture though as the people who make the decisions will not be us. We pays our money and sings our songs. Whatever happens, we need more firepower in 2012/13 and we don't appear to have the people to do that in the squad at present.

SP {Ed001's Note - you do realise Sturridge doesn't know how to pass a ball don't you? He is a ball hog. He will run into a blind alley rather make an easy pass. I believe you are right, that Chelsea are now considering cutting their losses on him.}

I bet you of all of Chelsea's forwards would love it if Sturridge left. He is the most selfish player I have seen in a long time (even worse than Defoe). Luis Suarez himself is known to be unable (every now and then) to spot teammates is semi-scoring position. So, I don't see much of a partnership there. But, what do I know?

Canadian Fan

I will never get the 5min back I lost reading that tosh.

Chuck Norris

SP, unusually I find myself disagreeing with you twice in a week.
Oh and I didn't appreciate the media dig (I think that's what it was, apologies if it wasn't)

Chris in Tamworth

Ashley young was very very ball greedy at villa, now at united he's been immense, hard as it is to say, i think sturridge would be an excellent buy {Ed001's Note - so why is it every time I edit the United pages they are whinging about how poor Young has been yet again?}

I don't write for people to agree with me - that's for people like Beckham and Ferdinand on Twitter! Chris - if you didn't appreciate the media dig, from one journalist to no other ... such is life!
If Sturridge is greedy it means he might want to score which is what we need. We need more than AC supplying for LS. After all, LS is not that prolific. Could it be that a selfish player like Sturridge, supporting an supported by LS might score regularly?
Look, if I knew the answers to everything I would be Stan (I don't want anyone else getting a word in while I talk) Collymore, Rio Ferdinand or Ed Balls-up!
SP

Ok SP, I get it, you're a journalist and I've hurt your feelings. I was one who hoped for you to return after you left and was glad to see you back because I enjoyed your posts unfortunately I'd forgotten what an arrogant self important person you could be at times as well.
My dislike of tabloid journalists is not a slur on you I'm sure you wrote very honourably for the Liverpool Mercury
Come on SP, you've got it wrong about the journos and you've got it wrong about Sturridge, we all get things wrong occasionally. Well, when I say "we"....

Chris in Tamworth

"Ok SP, I get it, you're a journalist and I've hurt your feelings. I was one who hoped for you to return after you left and was glad to see you back because I enjoyed your posts unfortunately I'd forgotten what an arrogant self important person you could be at times as well. "
- I don't know where you got that idea from?
I'm not bothered about what you think of me as you don't know me and neither does anyone else.
These are my views and there for people to comment upon and nod or shake their heads.
If you bothered checking the words in the way they are written, I AM the one criticising my own profession!
I am not upset nor put off by your comments. I write for people to read or ignore. The ones saying "I only read the first few lines ...." are good enough for me. They probably said "I only read the first three lines of that Dicken's stuff and it was crap!"
Stick to comments on what I write in terms of the issues not the personalities.
The web is anonymous in this context: what I say is from a person YOU don't know and what is said back is from people I will never know. Works for me.
SP

..... by the way Chris.
Could you outline in any detail the following statement - "you've got it wrong about the journos and you've got it wrong about Sturridge" or is it a matter of fact as you have written it?

Sorry, in my opinion you've got it wrong
Better?

Chris in Tamworth

Yes you did originally criticise your profession I know but you did then make a dig in your next post which was defending it, hence my comment.
As I said I am a fan of your posts I just didn't like the thinly veiled dig at me.

Chris in Tamworth

I suspect you are probably the only one who thought it was a dig at anyone!
I have been a journalist for more than 38 years and understand that it is a job. I have called it a profession but my cynicism also tells me that it's only teachers who snootily describe their job as a profession and no-one else's. The rest of us just work! But, ignoring that: there is a distinct vein of sarcasm and dislike of the media in the majority of posting on this site.

This is understandable as nobody can look beyond The Sun. I won't go over old ground save to say I move on and leave others festering. I have no great impression of the work pushed out by most journalists; like my own work, most of it can be done by the majority of people. The only difference is that 'we' have larger audiences than you. I am a good writer and I can say that, but I doubt if my ideas and thoughts stand towering above others. What I do have is an eye for the phrase and issue's core. I don't believe what I write is gospel nor to everyone's taste. My thoughts are my own and not pinched from other psotings and rehashed. They are not endless masturbatory wishlists but ideas that may, might, possibly, could be realistic. Whilst I have no issue with you or others saying I don't know what I'm talking about (the common phrase used by football fans to run down anyone they can't understand or dislike) I do take issue with being told I am "wrong" about journalists or Sturridge. My points may not concur with yours or anyone else's, but they are not wrong. Wrong is if I say 3+9 = 10. Unless you believe in a God (and I do not) then when your God says "Sturridge is s**te and all journalists are liars!" then you can say I am wrong!
SP

SP I never meant to, nor did I think I had, slate all journalists. My criticism is of the tabloid football writers young and old.
Of course I can't actually say you are wrong about Sturridge I can only believe you to be wrong. (I don't believe in god either by the way)
Perhaps we can agree to disagree and move on?
I'm not a journalist but for many years I have wished I could be, even though I dont have the required word skills

The last part of Hazards quote on sky sports. 'I'm concentrating on Lille this season'. Lying Ba***n lol! WelshBoyDave

I don't want to see him at Liverpool.. Good player... But not Liverpool standard for a person

Watch his feet too, if he goes to spain or england, you'll notice his footwork will be a bit too stagnant for better defenders, at times he looks like he's in wet cement, beautiful footwork, silky smooth, but will prove too slow for the big boys. If he pays attention to it, he can strengthen and get better, but he thinks he's the finished article already... Just sayin'...

Excellent result at the weekend from the redmen another trip to wembley is just what we need. I'd over to see where we would be if we had gerrard and lucas in the middle all season! reckon the league table would look a bit different. Next 10 games

QPR - away
Wigan - Home
Newcastle - away
Aston Villa - home
Blackburn - away
Fulham - Home
West Brom - Home
Norwich - Away
Chelsea - Home
Swansea - away

Chelsea - still have to play - city, tottenham, arsenal and us
Newcastle - still have to play Chelsea, city and us
Arsenal - still have to play - city and chelsea otherwise looks like an "easy" run as well.

I know that football is an unpredictable sport, but on paper, no reason we cant get 20+ points.... now im not saying we'll get 4th but it isnt completely out of site.... stranger things have happened.

I think playing against relegation threatened teams will be just as hard, its the mid table teams with not too much to play for id rather be playing

After watching yesterdays game, i know we didnt play the best but i think thats the formation and team we need to stick with. Spearing the last couple of games has improved so much, i think he needs to be in the team for the rest of the season. Again downing played well. For me tho, i hate to get on carrolls back but he is frustrating me so much. I hope he starts scoring as much as anyone coz when he swings that left foot it gives me butterflys as he has such a sweet strike on him, but yesterday he was caught stood on his heels too many times someone passed to him and he wasnt in a position to move. Also when people are crossing he makes no movement, i want to see him making back post and front post runs but he just stands between two defenders and hopes it lands on his head. And I have to mention he put the best cross of the game in, if only he could cross to himself.

Anyway off to wembley again

Eds,
Which youngsters do you think will be promoted to the first team for the next season? {Ed001's Note - Silva and Suso, possibly Adorjan as well, would be my bet.}

Id love to see suso get a chance next season, he looks the real deal

Silva is a bit crap, hopefully not him. suso looks decent, i'd love to see adorjan and wisdom get a few games, both look quality. {Ed001's Note - I like Wisdom, but Coates is ahead of him.}

Adjoran for me. Me and ed001 are fans.

19 Mar 2012 14:16:58
Ed001 what are yor thoughts on Charlie adam ?
I think he is a decent player has a good cross and decent shot. I feel he can be even better if he can work a little on his short passing as he seems a little slow to think and is always looking for long crossfield passes.
Also I feel he is best suited to 4-3-3 with a CDM and a workhorse like Hendo around him.
What do you think happened to his freekicks and corners ? is it down to lost confidence or increased pressure due to stevie G being back and his place under threat
View of Fellow kopites also appreciated
{Ed001's Note - I think he is just overawed right now, his confidence is shot and he needed a break from the team. Now he has time to get his head together, put in some extra time at Melwood getting his dead balls back on track and recovering his confidence. Like you I think he needs someone alongside him to do the legwork, or to play further forward as an attacking mid. I do agree, a 4-4-2 will not get the best out of him at all, unless it is more of a central diamond, with him ahead of a defensive mid.}

Adam was playing realy well when lucas was fit

19 Mar 2012 14:15:41
Question for the Eds... With the financial fair play rules coming into effect this summer, what clubs in the Premier League do you think will struggle?? Personally i dont know how Man-City will meet the requirements.

Rocky {Ed001's Note - I don't think any will, the effects won't be felt yet.}

We may see alot of good Man-City players leave this summer as a result though...

Rocky {Ed001's Note - that is because of the squad size limit mainly.}

Adam Johnson would be nice on the right

19 Mar 2012 12:33:30
Would just like to say a big well done to spearing, personally my man of the match. Did you see him trying to out jump crouch? He never stood a chance but still tried his hardest! That's what I want to see off everyone on the pitch when playin for lfc is all about 100 % commitment

Jay is okay,but I still think at best he's a mid-table team player. Running after everyone, or being out jumped by Crouch,actually shows his deficiencies. lack of pace and lack of height.Lets not get crried way with him. Imo We need better players than Spearing.

Sorry but I disagree, there's no telling what spearing will be like in 5 or 6 years, he maybe small and lack pace but he's had some good tutoring with Steve mashc and xabi. Once his awareness and eye for goal pick up I think he could have a fantastic future

I don't think Makelele would have outjumped Crouch either, nor would he have outsprinted Thierry Henry.

Thats hardly the point of the role he plays.

He needs to tighten up his control and passing - and curb his tackling a little, he's got to learn when not to lunge in for the ball - it's not the 80's anymore! He's a sending off waiting to happen in that respect (not quite Masch mental though).

He has a good footballing brain, a great engine, is committed and is a quality team player.

If he improves on the 3 aspects of his game I listed, he can be very useful, but should be 3rd choice DM behind Lucas and a new signing imo.

He protects the back 4 better than anyone else at LFC - barring Lucas of course.

BJH YNWA.

Have never been Andy Carroll's biggest fan but over the last month I have thought he was showing a bit of improvement which wasn't hard from where he was at! Any one who reads my posts on here will know I don't slate players for having one or two bad games and I'm not slating Carroll for having a bad game but what Sundays game did show us is once again Andy Carroll is not good enough to wear the Liverpool, No 9 shirt even if Andy has a good or half decent game ; It's my opinion it's still not of the required standard: He doesn't have that zip,technical ability or energy of a top striker, he's always behind or under the ball from crosses, too static doesn't attack the near post or six yard area, and because of his lack of pace and movement, the players around him struggle as he is either in the way or missing from build up play or it breaks down through him losing possession or giving away a free kick; which from my point of view is extremely frustrating to watch. Just couldn't help thinking all through the game on Sunday that if we had a centre forward of undoubted class and scoring ability: The effect on the team would be unbelievable it's that simple, it's the missing ingredient, the whole team would be more cohesive as we do have the makings of a being a very good side and maybe even a great side if we can find that Centre forward and maybe a busy midfield general to link the play.
I don't dislike Andy Carroll after all it's not his fault we bought him, I remember in the sixties standing on the Kop we had bought Tony Hateley for a club record fee at the time. Hateley like Carroll thrived on crosses and long balls, meaning Shankly's push and run style of football had to be adapted to suit him. Though his heading ability was the best in his day and probably still the best header of a ball that I've ever seen, he once scored a diving header at the kop end it was about 6"off the deck, he would head anything :) his technical ability was truly awful he used to get called wooden legs. He still managed to score 28 goals though in his first and only season, but Hateley's style was hated on the Kop and he was sold at the end of the season and we were not sorry to see him go.
Just like Shankly didn't trade in his Pass and Move belief for Hately for more than one season. I don't think Kenny will either for Carroll.
I think the same fate awaits Andy Carroll? One season of long balls and excuses is enough.
But good luck to him where ever he ends up.
I know, not every one will agree but we will just have to wait and see what transpires in the summer and at moment he's a Liverpool player and an asset
even if only in monetary terms.
Kidmillions

Lol iv just posted a similar thing and this is the first thing i read lol

Kop Bob

He's been playing his best football for us the past month mate, as a team player. Have some faith in him, he's working his keester off in training and improving, especially his touch and set-up game.

McSnuggles

Perhaps Kidmillions and Kop Bob are not up to Liverpool Standards supporters.!!!!! Bobbinred

If kenny continues with carroll playing and him coming deep and creating space behind him by pulling CB's into the hole which has resulted in 2 wins and 5 goals since his inclusion then i will happily watch him week in week out! we couldn't hit a barn door before and now we've hit 5 in 2 games and AC has been integral.

Thanks to the last poster, that's the point AC is working his socks off and still not up to standard required. As for 5 goals in 2 games? did AC score any? or even involved in the build up? No. In the position Andy plays you've either got it or you havn't. Andy has got it! but at a lower level to what we need! .Next season we need to challenge at the top of the league. We need a proper Centre Forward. We are Liverpool Football Club and not the Andy Carroll show.

Luis Suarez today spoke of his happiness at Liverpool Football Club.

In an interview with Liverpoolfc.tv on Monday morning, our top scorer told of how he and his family are loving life on Merseyside.

Suarez has 11 goals so far this season, the latest of which helped Liverpool reach the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday.

And the 25-year-old wants to keep scoring goals for the Reds for many years to come.

He said: "I have spoken with people at the club and they know that I want to stay and that I am enjoying myself and am very happy here.

"No one at the club has told me that they want to try and sell me or that I will be leaving!

"I'm going to carry on playing my football here at Liverpool. There are a good few years left on my contract and I want to carry on enjoying myself because both my family and I feel really happy here."

Hopefully that's it then?

Sounds a lot like what Torres would say

No, Torres would say 'where is that barn door'?

Small, skillful, pacey strikers get off to flying starts in their career because they are fresh and can use all these attributes to cause problems.

Old fashioned centre forwards, like Carroll will never be great at the start of their careers. He doesnt have the movement so he relies on timing and positioning, something which comes with experience.

When the smaller players, like Owen, get to about 27 they struggle to adapt to losing that yard of pace, whereas Carroll will only get stronger. He's never had it and will rely on the knowledge he gained when he was younger. Players like Shearer are proof of this; he only got better as he got older.

Unfortunately for Andy, football has become obsessed with instant results. If he keeps plugging away in a few seasons he could be a top, top striker. A few seasons is too long for most fans but hes part of a long term project and Kenny knows this too.

We all know we are short a winger,attacking midfielder and striker.

We need quality and need to be clever and shrewd in how we conduct our business...we all want bale,benzema,iniesta etc but we must be realistic!

We can find top young players and give them a chance to shine,especially in the attacking mid position why not go for coutinho! seen the boy play a good few times and in a team like ours with lucas there to mentor him and help him settle,would be a top piece of business! we have enough experience at lfc with stevie,reina,skrtel,agger,lucas etc. we need to find 3 top exciting players to get the goals we know we should be getting.

Another thing is get off carroll's back, He is never gonna fire properly without another pacy winger that beats players and puts in quality crosses!

This team is not far off and with a few clever signings we can compete in the prem. YNWA

Carroll's type of centre forward is obselete.
kidmillions

Kid millions, im not a carroll hater in fact I support all the players regardless as long as they work hard for the team, but I do agree with you centre forwards such as carroll, do not bode well in a team that should be challenging for top honours. Their aerial game is excellent but heading a ball is an atttribute that i think every player getting paid £40,000+ a week should have.... if you look at the likes of barcelona, real madrid, ac milan, Bayern Munich and dare I say Man U.... their front line consists of pacey, technically gifted players, and no specific target man.... this is the way i see quality football played these days! I appreciate it if others do not agree!

Danski

I disagree with kidmillions here.

No kind pf player is obselete. You just have to look at Barca/Napoli. they often play 3 at the back and are hugely successful teams. And people though tht playing 3 at the back was obselete...

LiverBird

Yer i suppose mario gomez's style of play is obsolete as well. mug

Danski I think you may have missed a player called Mario Gomez?

Llorente was absolete when he was knocking united out of the europa league, llorente is everything carroll could be, work on his touch and his positioning and he'll be on his way

Gomez is technically brilliant and his movement is first class

Mario gomez isnt a 1 trick pony....

Llorente is a lot older than carroll the older the fiddle the sweeter the tune

I think Hendo have a good game vs Everton, he was sub on 78 minute. and surprise to see he not in starting line up in cup match.

rock.

Well, we have got a mid-week game too to deal with. He was rested for sure and I think that was a right decision. Hope, Kenny would stick to same squad for few weeks. 2nd trip to Wembley. Ahh! can't wait. YNWA

He was our worst player against everton. He gave the ball away too many times, big fan of hendo and feel sorry for him having to play out of position. I'd rather him be on the bench than on the right of midfield.

Hendo played killer balls against Everton some paid off and some didn't.He was criticised for being to safe.Spearing gives too many forward passes away,but he's loved because he's a scouser.

Wayne Rooney is also a scouser but not well liked and so is Jimmy Tarbuck.

hey eds, mainly the eds who are liverpool fans, do you prefer charlie adam playing or spearing. 2 games without him, we have played quite well but i'll admit when charlie is on his day, hes a great footballer. Credit is due to spearing who has played well lately. Until lucas comes back, who would you rather, spearing or adam? ill admit im not the biggest charlie adam fan but i wll always support him no matter what because like i mentioned before, great footballer on his day. My only problem with Adam is that he is inconsistent. One week, he plays awesome, and then suddenly goes on a bad run.

thanks. YNWA

red moose {Ed001's Note - on current form, it has to be Spearing, he works better with Gerrard as well. The thing that impressed me most was the way they swapped over, providing cover when the other got forward.}

U know that surprised me too ed, especially when gerrard talks about spearing, that simply means he believes in spearing, and to be honest, gerrard is not wrong in believing him. his passing has improved so much, i guess u really can learn from ur mistakes, so far this season, i felt that was his only mistake though, the one where he passed the ball to Valencia if im not mistaken against MU.

Kaizer {Ed001's Note - he has always had decent ability on the ball, it was his height and lack of pace holding him back. Especially the lack of pace, it makes it very difficult to get space and time to play the ball without that pace. But he is learning to move constantly into space to receive a pass and have the time to play the ball.}

Ed1 we shuldn't compare charlie adam with spearing. One is dm and other is acm and we need dm so spearing suits more then adam and fellow kopites we shouldn't slag adam we havnt used him in his natural position as much. And he can't play dm coz cnat tackle but can attack more then speo

Spearing was more towards a cm if u ask me in that game, something adam should be doing! defend and attack at the same time, control the midfield. adam is better in my opinion, just inconsistent, and sometimes hes not himself. i dont know why.

Kaizer

Also we need to realise tht this has been a transitional season for Adams in terms of his playing style....He is no longer a quarter backwith no defensive duties....Its his first season at Liverpool and he plays in ateam where every player wants the ball.....Lucas has been out injured and everybody expects him to not only fill in but excel there as well....So it has been a steep learning curve....

We need to be patient...I am expecting him, Carroll, Downing and Enrique to have a better second season.......

Spearing all day for me

There's no need to sell Carrol. Even if he isn't extremely effective he's still fairly young, and we're not short on money or anything either. So we can get another striker if we wish.

Also, he was bought at a very high price so.. business terms it'll be stupid to let him go.

He'll only get better and better. Sell him now and we'll get 15m

cozinoz

The problem i have with him is that he is lazy and does not put in much effort during games.

We're getting 1 more striker, but we should keep him. provides different options. this should suit kenny i guess? he always has different style against different teams.

Kaizer

Carroll is not lazy.
You are lazy.

Sign ur posts first n then talk abt LAZINESS.....

A good summer in my opinion
Soldado 18m
Munian 18m

Are you a weatherman?

A weatherman... I would say a fan hoping players would come.

what is andy carrolls problem? for a centre forward, he spends more time in the middle of the pitch than a defensive midfielder.. get up into the box and score a few andy mate! i know he has a piledriver of a left foot but hes not going to score from the centre circle. it also makes things harder for suarez, he tracks back, picks up the ball, then theres no1 ahead of him to give it to. i say we get rid in the summer and bring in a striker who knows where hes supposed to play. i still think llorente would do a good job, he played well against the scum the other nite and he knows where the net is. ed, how much (approx) would llorente cost? he looks like a £25m+ player, am i close?

ryan c belfast ynwa! {Ed001's Note - they rejected 35m from us before we bought Carroll, no telling how much he would cost, if we could get him at all.}

Maybe thats where KK wants him to play? Hasnt hurt in the past couple of games has it?

I actually prefer Carroll playing in the role he has done for the last couple of games. He has been more involved and has linked better with the others.
KJS

From what I have seen Carroll spends his time in the middle During a goalkick to be first to the ball to play Suarez in which he does brilliantly or tracking back to lure the defence forward so as its easier for Suarez to beat the backline and also provide a good defensive option.
Also to be fair to him he is in the right areas when he has a chance but think he would benefit not from a player who goes to the line and crosses so that every defender can has a chance to block him and make it difficult to get a head on but from early crosses where the defence hasnt had time to form and he can attack the ball better.ie guttierez yesterday supplying to Papaye

We're doing well in the cups this year - does anyone else think it's because the 'smaller' sides NEED to score to progress?
If that was a league match, Stoke would keep 11 behind the ball and hope for one of their big lads to get on the end of a Delap throw. Ultimately, they would aim for 0-0 and be ecstatic if they scored.
We easily compete on the pitch with the likes of arsenal and manu but struggle in the league against the Stokes and Boltons - teams who bring their bus and look for an occasional set-piece.
All I can say is that Stoke fans deserve medals from the club for putting up with that negative drivel week in week out.

cozinoz

Both of our goals came from keeping the ball on the deck playing one/two's and going right at the heart of their defence. Getting the ball out wide and pumping it into the box is just playing into the hands of the likes of Stoke.

Stoke did play for the draw,there was no difference from tht game to a league game for them.they wanted to take the game to there place.just we was better and went inside rather than out

I think Andy Carroll has the potential to be even better than Cavani in a few seasons down the line, once he becomes clinical infront of goal like we all know he's capable off then lord show mercy on the opposition with his strength and height.

Nice joke mate.
Indian Buzzer

Have you actually watched him play the last 18 months?

I dont see why he cant, he just has to put alot in :)

No wonder you didn't put a name. And I don't even rate Cavani as highly as some.

Ash

Carroll will be ok at a lower level but not with Liverpool. He will never reach the required standard. Glad he's playing reasonably ok, so there will be some interest in the summer.

Nice 1 Andy ;)

Keep dreaming

Just can't see AC ever reaching a level of performance that justifies his place in a LFC team. His natural abilities are limited (lacks pace and positional anticipation), it looks as though we will be stuck with him though (as the club can't take a massive loss in selling him on), so the only option is to provide him with attacking support (wingers, creative midfield) that will help improve his chances of scoring.
Its sad that we are stuck with him, as £35m would no doubt have allowed LFC to buy at least 2 good-decent strikers!.

Sorry don't see getting creative players and wingers as a negative as we have been crying out for these players for years now

Just a question eds. If an opposing player would call Suarez a f*cking racist during a game would they get perhaps get a yellow card? GIven ofcourse that the ref heard it. {Ed001's Note - I doubt it.}

Has anyone ever done that?

I am a fan of LUIS SUAREZ, whatever happend to him or how much of booooos he gets and how much of faults and handballs he claims, i still think he has that edge, he puts so much effort on the pitch, compare andy and suarez, we can just see the difference on the work rate and the energy they put out, luis suarez is the best man that we have right now so lets support him and i hope he signs a contract expansion wid u. luis suarez shall never walk alone, YNWA

REDh0t

Agree with you but he just needs to stop complaining, whining, waving his arms etc

JRFRED

Look the handball situation ask any player they want to do it on that situation they will say yes. he know what he doing trying to give his country a chance . he know he will shown red card but take it for his team to win. for me that a Hero.

Surprised he had a good Game. He must of been counting to 10 constantly throughout it!!

It's good to see Suarez laughing off the decisions against him instead of going crazy like he used to

True that.

Suarez just wants to win, how many times has he got fouled and got nothing and this is from the very beginning of his playing career in england. i think hes superb and will be banging them in soon

Liverpool vs Stoke Review

Reina - Was not tested a great deal to be fair but did his job well for the main part. Appealed furiously that he was being fouled for the goal but personally I didn't see a whole lot wrong with it (except for the fact that it should never ave been a corner).

Kelly - had a mixed game. Booked early but conducted himself well at the back an did get forward a few times too. His distribution was a little wayward and looked a little jaded; I suspect the Everton game took a toll.

Carragher - was solid if unspectacular. Didn't have a great deal to do but commanded the back line with distinction.

Skrtel - was an absolute rock at the back and dealt with the physical threat posed by Stoke perfectly.

Enrique - Occasional misplaced passed but was solid defensively but seems to run himself into dead ends when he goes forward, lacked a final ball today. By all means still played well but has been a marked difference in performance over the past 2 months compared to when he first joined. Accumulated fatigue or realistic performance level?

Maxi - his quick feet assisted Suarez and his quick football brain combined with his technique is an asset. However, very slow and drifted out of the game before his substitution.

Spearing - did surprisingly well in dealing with the physical threat of Stoke. Distribution was an improvement on previous performances and played much better than previous games.

Gerrard - was always looking to link up with Suarez, had a few good touches including a lucky back heel to assist Downing. Not his greatest game but fairly solid.

Downing - scored the winner and was constantly changing wing which gave Stoke a headache. Truth be told besides the goal he didn't do a great deal, am looking for continual improved performances.

Suarez - worked tirelessly, scored a classy goal and looked dangerous through out. tired near the end but was arguably MOTM and, given the physical nature of Stoke, did superbly.

Carroll - was hoping for more from the big fella against Stoke. Spent a lot of the time conceding fouls or being fouled but not winning freekicks. Knocked the ball down many times but feel Liverpool play the long ball far too much when he is on the pitch. Impact was limited and for me didn't work hard enough when he didn't have the ball. Left his man at the corner for Stoke's equaliser.

Coates - came on near the end, looked solid though didn't have much to contend with to be fair. Decent cameo.

Henderson - to be honest I can't really remember a telling contribution from the lad, is my memory that bad or was he simply anonymous?

Kuyt - ran around a lot when he came on an put pressure on Stoke in there half which helped limit there performance near the end. Nothing else to report.

Dalglish - the team was set up well and i don't think Stoke ever really looked dangerous except from there set-pieces and dull long throw-in's. Attacking wise we didn't create loads but enough to warrant the result we got, overall a big imrovement on previous teams of stoke's ilk. Always seems hostile in interviews though which doesn't endear him to anyone, wish Dalglish would be a little more media friendly - might give the club a bit more favourable press.

Conclusions - good performance, through to the next round and no player really under performing, a good afternoons work. Really need to continue our recent resurgence and out a rea run together in the league. |Champions league place is most likely out of reach but never say never.

SMc

Skertel has really grown this year,the man is a rock at the back now.

Disagree with Enrique. He has an excellent game.

BthekingB

Agree with most of those but think Reina should have done better for the goal and Carroll couldn't have done much more without better service. I'd also say that Downing's goal showed a marked improvement over recent performances; in the sort of game we often draw, he took it upon himself to create something and scored a quality winner. Suarez and Downing with two moments of quality won us a game in which we struggled to find cohesion against Stoke's physical defending and some very dodgy refereeing

Red Ollie

A bit harsh on Henderson considering he was only on for about 4 mins

I really don't see why u all rave about Enrique so much?

Just back from Anfield.
Shout out to the Stoke fans, who were the loudest away supporters at Liverpool this season.
Even if they are t*ssers !
Lol.
The Real KB

Also the most disrespectful fans to visit Anfield. At the start were more intent on singing one of their own songs well into the announcement about Fabrice Muamba and that was shameful. Their chanting and disrespect shown during YNWA is by far the worst I have heard from visitors, when other supporters seem to let the home fans have their ritual observed. All in all a pretty classless shower.
Midsred

Don't you get more away fans in a cup game?

Good point, yes you do. the away fans get all the lower anfield road seats whereas in league games they have less than half of that

Tomkop7

Did you see some of them on Tv!
I think it's now the only city left in Britain where you can still Legally Marry you Sister!!!

Back down to Anfield South again! By no means a vintage display but Stoke always make it hard, and in cup ties its only the result that matters. Suarez shown why he has to stay and Spearing was very impressive again. Skrtel is my player of the season a rock again today. We've got to carry this into QPR now, get on a winning streak.

A few questions for Ed001 if he is around, haven't been on for a while and was hoping to get your opinion on some things -

1) How do your rate Jordan Ibe after the few reserve games he has played, haven't had the chance to see him myself ?

2) How much do you rate Coady and do you think he'll get a chance soon, he seems a very good all round midfielder with a great attitude?

3) and finally do you think we could be interested or move for either Mesut Ozil seen on here that he is not happy at madrid or Giuseppe Rossi(after his injury) as Villareal are in trouble or will failing to qualify for champions league put us out of the running ?

Sorry for the long questions ed but would love your opinion on the above. Hope you are well and great site. {Ed001's Note - 1. I have only seen Ibe a couple of times for us, he does look to have something about him, that stand out quality that suggests he can make it. Not the Fowler/Gerrard quality, but the next step down, where he can make it if he works hard enough.
2. I really like Coady, he has pace, power and quality on the ball. But it is going to be difficult for him to make it, he is very much a box to box midfielder but they are not really fashionable these days.
3. Little chance of Ozil, he is a fan favourite at Madrid. Impossible to say with Rossi, until he comes back from his injury and gets back playing.}

Eds,
what do you personally think Liverpool needs regarding new players/ transfers to compete for the top 3/4 next season?

Cheers mate
{Ed001's Note - I think 2 players would transform the team, a right winger to stretch the play and force the opposition back. Also a goal scorer. I don't think we need to make too many changes, we don't want to unsettle the team.}

So i assume the club also think a goalscorer is needed.
But what will happen with andy carroll then?
With luis suarez and maybe the new striker above him in the pecking order i doubt he would like to be the third choice striker. Eds? {Ed001's Note - it is a case of getting a squad together, that is what we need to do.}

I wud sign a cm like moussa sissoko as well ed. Good workrate, n a younger version of yaya toure. Sell adam to free up funds for sissoko.
Indian Buzzer

Why a cm indian,do we not already have lucas,gerrard,hendo,adam,spearing,shelvey and others coming thru.we would only sign another cm if some leave
mr brown

As good as sissoko is buzzer that doesnt really solve the right winger and goal scorer problem does it? Unless you were gonna play him on the right wing? Are you Rafa in disguise? And yes sell Adam after one season, excellent idea, suppose we should have sold lucas after one season as well. Good thinking there chap - glad you're hear to keep us on the ball as it were....

Andy C

Maybe Andy, because Sissoko is better than Adam will ever be, more athletic and can last a full 90 minutes and with Gerrard entering the "twilight" of his career, we could do with an energetic, box-to-box midfielder? You would do well to remember that it was Rafa who bought and stuck by Lucas too or did you miss that bit?

Ash

Ash,

Guess the irony of the rafa, lucas comment passed you by then - that was kind of my point, he stuck by him, but how much stick did he get on here, and how has he turned out? They are different players Ash, different attributes, and dont get me wrong sissoko would be a good buy for all the reasons you state, but is it an area that requires an immediate fix? Or is the goal scorer and winger more of an issue at this moment? I should also acknowledge that buzzer said to buy sissoko as well as a winger and forward, but the point is by buying one midfielder and selling another one i dont see the squad being strengthened? If the plan is to ultimately compete on more fronts and ideally in the CL then a squad with depth is what is required not just a better playing 11, Perhaps adam will end up as a squad player over the next few seasons, perhaps he may become pivotal, who knows, but its his first season and a bit too soon to judge i would say, not a fan of the revolving door policy on players "you have one season to cut it or your out" - Where would lucas be if we adopted that with all our players?

Ash sorry forgot to sign off last time, but had another thought, as you say steve isnt getting any younger so, for arguements sake say he suffered another long injury and we'd sold adam but bought sissoko, the midfield would be lucas, henderson (assuming he gets a go in the middle) sissoko and spearing, compared to lucas, hendo, gerrard, adam spearing which we have now (ignoring that lucas is currently out injured). Whereas if we keep charlie, he might come good with a little time and patience and the squad looks stronger too - which is what we all want isnt it?

Andy C

Well if you play russian roullette you have a 1 in 6 chance of getting a bullet with the amount of players rafa bought the odds were on he had to sign a couple of decent players
