Today I see somewhere a poll who is greatest striker and ronaldo de Lima wins. He is the one actually I fell in love with football. I what to know the ed's (001, 002) and follow posters view on him. I personally think at present no one is of his caliber.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he is the best I have ever seen.}

19 May 2017 19:24:04
He was always my favourite, he was always the first to do things i hadn't seen, my favourite striker of all time by a mile.

19 May 2017 20:10:49
Completely agree. Trickery, dribbling, blinding speed and finishing, too. It's a pity those knee injuries slowed him down, otherwise he would have reached greater heights.

19 May 2017 20:34:02
Why did he really miss the 98 world cup final? Was it nerves? One of my favourites was van Basten. Similar kind of injuries finished him I think. And that a c Milan team. Wow.

19 May 2017 20:53:51
Roller - he didn't miss it, he actually played. But he was as good as not being there. They say he had a seizure before the game; an odd thing since he never had one before nor after, so it's a mystery that may never be solved. The team doctors took him off the match roster, but his sponsors Nike made sure he was put back on, where he virtually sleepwalked through the game. Yeah, Van Basten was a special one too. With the other two Dutchmen, Rijkaard and Gulitt, he was part of that AC Milan team for the ages.

19 May 2017 22:22:08
Suarez all day long.

20 May 2017 00:17:47
Ronaldo pulverising Man Utd is still my favourite ever individual performance. He may as have patted Fergie on the head as he got subbed off to a standing ovation.

20 May 2017 00:47:12
I'd agree with Ronaldo (Brazil) being the best.

And apparently he could have been even better but he was blighted with hypothyroidism.

He obviously didn't deserve all the stick he got over his weight as weight gain is linked to the above long word.

Michael Owen apparently made a few nastyish tweets about Ronaldos weight but I guess it was the only way to get his name in the same paragraph as Ronaldos . Runt.

20 May 2017 01:10:28
Roller, there are many conspiracies surrounding the 98 final in France. But the most common story was that Ronaldo had a siezure the previous night or on the day of the final and the sponsors (no names here) forced him to play, allegedly (one of the Eds has also said something along these lines) . But the conspiracies range from poisoning to pay offs. One even claimed Ronaldo was abducted by aliens and a clone put in his place lol.

But Ronaldo like some have already said, was the reason I even started watching Football.

20 May 2017 07:25:43
Red reaper seriously, you must be 15 or something. Suarez could not lace the original ronaldo's boots. World cup winner, multiple european champion, seriously! @#!

{Ed001's Note - there is no comparison! Suarez wishes he was as good as the real Ronaldo. He was a whole other level.}

20 May 2017 08:57:10
Can I throw a curve ball in here and say Ian Rush!

Maybe he wasn't as fancy, but he worked so hard for the team and scored every type of goal you could imagine. To my mind, he is the perfect striker to lead the line. It would be like Firmino scoring 30 goals a season and still maintaining his selfless but clever running, his gamesmanship, and his team ethic! That is how good Rush was. And I've only seen grainy highlight reels and re-runs on LFC TV. Anybody who watched him live was a lucky person.

20 May 2017 09:10:46
Real Ronaldo is top of two of my footy lists. Best attacker and worst hairstyle. In a world of Fellainis, Chamakhs and Nainggolans Ronaldos pubes look is still no1.

But seriously at his peak he was the most unplayable attacker I've seen. Ball at his feet, facing forward and it felt like a real chance every time. Ball in the box- same thing. Pace, movement, trickery, power, smart finishing and great head for the game.

20 May 2017 09:22:29
Ha! 15 and half actually. I remember Ronaldo, big lad pretty quick, good eye for goal. Class! He scored 247 goals for his clubs. Suarez already scored 264 goals for clubs. Different types of Striker both of them but one for me edges it - the ex rated Red.

{Ed001's Note - edges it? Omg you really have not seen enough of Ronaldo mate. They are not even close. Ronaldo would be up there with the Maradonas and Peles of the game if he had not had his career curtailed by injury. As it is he is still the next step down to be compared with Messi and the current Ronaldo, though it is only because of his short career that they can stand comparison. Ronaldo was truly a phenomenon.

He was that good he changed the Brazilian way of naming players. Before Ronaldo players would be Ronaldinho when they were young, as they got older and a new player emerged they would become Ronaldo and the youngster Ronaldinho. Then they would get displaced again by a new Ronaldinho and the old Ronaldinho would become Ronaldo and they would become Ronaldao. Basically, to Anglicise it, it would be Little Ronald, Ronald and Big Ronald. Ronaldo was that good he was never displaced, leaving Ronaldinho stuck as Little Ronald forever.}

20 May 2017 10:37:31
It's a boring reply but it's Maradona surely or is that an age thing.

20 May 2017 10:40:56
Amazing player. One of the best. But that haircut was a disgrace.

20 May 2017 10:41:50
You are right about there being no strikers at the moment who are of his calibre, or even close for that matter. But if you are stating he's the greatest player of the past say 25 years, I think you could be wrong. You can't deny messi's artistry at times and he his stats are unimaginable.

20 May 2017 12:21:59
Waro - It's Pele! And it's definitely an age thing! LOL.

20 May 2017 11:21:17
Fowler is the greatest ever. Obviously.

20 May 2017 11:36:59
I'd go Messi. Footballs much more difficult these days so Messi for me, just.

20 May 2017 16:09:19
I'll always go with Ronaldo.
Not to knock Cristiano or Messi, but Ronaldo played in a time where the rules favoured defenders. If he's one-on-one with the central defender, he can get pulled down without the defender even getting a card or at worst a yellow. Now, it's a straight red card. Cristiano/ Messi is one-on-one with a defender and you're thinking "that's a goal". Imagine the number of times Ronaldo would be one-on-one with a central defender and the goals he would've scored if the defender knew he couldn't commit a foul.
He played in a difficult Italian league where the emphasis is on defending, not the leagues nowadays with fullbacks being semi-wingers and opening up space everywhere.
To me, if he were to be in his prime in this era, he would be posting hattricks like Cristiano and Messi.

21 May 2017 09:20:33
Ronaldo (O Phenomeno) is the best player I have ever seen in all my 30 years of watching football.

19 May 2017 17:58:36
Realistic target for next season:

For Zimbo to spell Lallana's name correctly?

Love your posts btw Zimbo ;) Agree with a lot of what you say! x.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

19 May 2017 23:53:44
At least Ilori isn't still at the club mate, I still wake up in cold sweats about how some people spelt his name.

20 May 2017 02:22:03
Haha mate - thanks and fair cop. I've actually done it so many times now my iPhone auto-corrects to the wrong spelling and can't be arsed to go back and change it!

Think at first I just confused him with a Llama.

19 May 2017 17:50:34
Just realised Ron Keague is an anagram of Ken Aguero ;)

How are the lucky pants 'Ron'?

Believable12 Unbelievable0

19 May 2017 18:49:51
I only realised a few days ago when an ed called him Ken lol.

{Ed001's Note - hmm I never even noticed.}

19 May 2017 19:31:26
Just realised haha.

19 May 2017 19:45:02
Genuinely raises a smile on my face when I hear Ken Aguero, as it was around then that I discovered the main site before it split into different clubs and I've been obsessed ever since!

Shout out to the Eds and every contributor for providing entertainment and being my main source of information.

{Ed001's Note - thank you TR.}

19 May 2017 20:38:22
Oh my god, 'Ed001' in Norwegian is pronounced as 'Harry Scousers father'.

Could it be?

{Ed001's Note - cheeky get! He is older than me.}

19 May 2017 21:37:27
How strange šŸ¤”.

19 May 2017 22:27:54
Genius.

20 May 2017 00:37:40
How on Earth do all of you people get all that time to think up all of this stuff? LOL.

20 May 2017 09:00:31
Older? No way is Harry any older than 16. I'm not having that.

Is he back posting yet by the way?

{Ed001's Note - you will be shocked to know that you are cutting his age in three then.}

20 May 2017 12:25:46
MKS, he'll be back soon enough. He always comes back. The returns are as frequent as the name changes. ;-)

19 May 2017 16:41:14
So we will get between Ā£30m and Ā£40m in prize money from the PL this season depending on whether we finish 5th 4th or 3rd.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

19 May 2017 19:55:54
Not sure how I will spend my share. When is it being divied up?

{Ed025's Note - you could buy joey barton nick?..oh sorry..wrong divvy..

20 May 2017 11:39:43
Need a win against Boro, I've promised the missus a holiday. Is it based on number of posts this season or what?

19 May 2017 15:03:58
Hi eds and fellow reds, just wondered if you thought that maybe we might go back in for zieliński, I know we were mad keen on him last summer but there were issues.
Also I've seen links of us going in for cesc fabergas, surely this is tripe, the guy is quality no doubt about it but he's slower than a week in the jail and doesn't really seem like a player that would suit our play.
Cheers for all the hard work you do on this site fascinating read, it's getting me through another tough spell with my Health.
Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

19 May 2017 17:06:26
Zeilinski just moved to Napoli last summer so that ain't going to happen, I'm afraid.

19 May 2017 13:26:45
Ed. With all the talk of transfers and with Klopp saying "talks are going well", in what context will he mean? Its my understanding that were we finish in the League will have an affect on ins and outs. And also players will be under contract. Am I right in thinking Klipperty is speaking ahead of him self?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Clubs talk with each other all of the time.}

20 May 2017 02:28:45
I'd be shocked if they hadn't been talking to other clubs or agents about possible moves by now - provided within the rules it's fine and I reckon most clubs will have lined up their targets already.

19 May 2017 13:14:21
Hi Eds and reds

Heard in the press conference the other day that Klopp says the club have 'Talked to transfer targets'

Was wandering if the Eds had any insight as to what this would be about or is it a general thing that goes on often

Many thanks and keep up the good work!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It means that the club has spoken with other clubs, players representatives and potentially players they are interested in. After all previous and current problems the club would do what is necessary to avoid being accused of approaching players without permission.}

19 May 2017 17:07:19
This happens all the time, all season long. it is nothing new.

19 May 2017 12:21:26
Need to get this off my chest, Over the past few years the thing that's really irked me is the way the board or whoever is responsible have let some really attainable transfers slip through the net. I know we can't go out and buy everyone or cannot afford some players but sometimes a certain player comes around that smacks you right in the face that he would fit the club perfectly. Deli alli was one, another a few years ago was bale. I can remember seeing him play for the saints as a young lad at LB and he was head and shoulders above the rest of the team even at that tender age. My point is we need a LB Fulham would sell so stop messing about and do a deal LFC. Even if he is loaned back for a year or two cause believe me this lad could be better than bale.

Believable13 Unbelievable0

19 May 2017 13:20:15
Feel better now ace?

19 May 2017 14:12:41
Been sayin for ages the club haven't learned from the biggest error in the clubs history the day they offered Parry the job.

19 May 2017 14:28:55
I'm not sure that Bale would have signed. There was a time that Bale and that staunch Evertonian Aaron Lennon were posting a lot of insults about Scourers on social media. Lennon changed his tune and joined a second rate team. The biggest player that LFC missed out on was Christiano Ronaldo. He could have been bought for 5 million and he wanted to join Liverpool. The club didn't react so he joined United for 12.5 million. Who knows what would have happened had he joined Liverpool. The way the team was run he would probably have ended up playing alongside Nemeth and Della Vella.

19 May 2017 14:45:01
Kind of Mikey HaHa. But what papewee is saying is exactly the kind of thing im talking ie Ronaldo ect. Surely we can't continue to make the same mistakes or maybe we will who knows. Anyway good luck to the lads on sunday YNWA.

19 May 2017 15:24:19
Yeah but with every Ronaldo, bale and deli alli there is a le tallec, sinama pongolle. My point being that every wonder kid that comes onto the scene isn't going to be Ronaldo or bale. The board at the time deemed Ronaldo not worth the risk but le tallec and pongolle was. We will never know what would have happened if Ronaldo. Hindsight is a funny old thing.

19 May 2017 16:10:55
I'm sure every club has a list of players "that got away"

19 May 2017 17:11:06
Who's to say that at Liverpool these players would have attained the status they have, maybe they would or maybe they wouldn't, we'll never know. Maybe the coaching they got and players they played and trained with help them become the great players they are.

19 May 2017 19:44:18
We should have really made an effort to get a transfer for Freddy Adu šŸ˜šŸ˜.

19 May 2017 11:48:32
Morning Ed001

Happy Friday!

Any chance of a transfer update?

Player we may be bringing in and players we may be selling?

Fingers crossed for the weekend

Thanks!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it will have to wait mate, I haven't time right now. Remind me Monday when I have some spare time. Hopefully.}

19 May 2017 12:48:21
Looking forward to it already ed.

19 May 2017 11:10:58
been out and have not posted in a while. But not much has changed we are still in for Soto players. gaaaaaaaaaaaah.
I don't want to irritate any eds but i'd still mention a few random player names :P

Is stephan savic for center back a fair shout? or may be Inigo martinez, he is also left footed.

Also serge gnabry, i like that player too.
Also Isco, that would be a some signing.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

19 May 2017 13:11:47
Why would athletico sell savic. Inigo no go, too much money and also to mant better options than us.

Isco no to slow for premier. Brilliant player but not for our game. Gnarby had an alright season needs more time to develop and we just don't need that right now.

If were to stay with th3 comoetion we need ready made players who can come straight in.

Mertens
Betrand
Nzonzi

Done. Not going to happen either though.

19 May 2017 20:16:16
Could try to bypass So'ton. Rumour has it they've been scouting a replacement for VVD in Stockholm. Joseph Aidoo of Hammarby is one of their candidates. Athletic, quick, strong, decent passing, true fighter. Decent positioning, but needs improving. Seems very willing to learn. Big drawback for us would be his ghananian passport.

19 May 2017 21:00:21
So he's from Ghanania, is it?

19 May 2017 22:11:25
Ghananananananana, and his nickname is Batman actually.

19 May 2017 10:51:07
From reading MK Scousers team post he mentioned something interesting in Can replacing Henderson and to be honest I agree. First of all I am not slating Henderson in any way but his Heel issue is likely to mean he will never play many games a season for us. he's a great captain but we need someone who can lead us on the pitch week in week out. With Milner looking as though he will be replaced at left back and there isn't many postions up for grabs for him apart from maybe a bench role or even leaving. So without Milner and Henderson in the team we will need a captain who can walk the team out and lead. My choice is Can who I think of all the players he has shown the most leadership and has been mostly injury free and available to play most weeks more than the rest. I think he has the potential to be one of the best in the world and I think making him captain would only improve him more. Who does everyone else think would be a good choice?

Believable7 Unbelievable4

19 May 2017 10:59:37
i'd like lovren to lead us. Leaders should be defenders and it improves to their overall game too.

19 May 2017 11:13:22
Can. you need your head testing he inst good enough to play every week he has had a good end to the season while he is looking for a new contract/ move. The captain in my opinion and this is only me should be Lallana. he did a great job at Southampton and is now a better player.

19 May 2017 11:20:13
Lovren?

Lead us?

šŸ¤£.

19 May 2017 11:21:38
There's two ways to look at it. Some players take to a vocal leader, someone with respect and intelligence. I get that view and it's the path most clubs choose.
On the other side, you choose a player who gives the whole team a mental boost, just seeing him kit up in the dressing room, a leader by example.
We were very lucky in the past to have both. Carra the former, gerrard the latter.
I'm actually in the latter camp, if I'm having a bad game, I want my captain to be able to bail me out, but also someone I can learn from.
In my mind it's clear, if you want the former, lovren maybe, can and lallana are all fair shouts.
The latter, mane an couts would be good shouts.
All down to opinion and preference I guess.

19 May 2017 11:23:16
well he isn;t going to leave us, so i'd let him lead us :P
lets say that is the only way he can be the leaser in that defense.

19 May 2017 11:32:27
You've made an assumption about hendo's injury, we're a long way away from knowing what impact it will have on his future.

If Hendo does need replacing then we should be looking at a player who's going to hold down a starting position for a few years and I'm not convinced that can be aid about Can.

19 May 2017 12:21:33
I seem to remember one of the ed's (I think it was Ed001) saying a while back that Liverpool would never pick a captain who isn't English.

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the manager. Brendan Rodgers had made it plain he wanted an Englishman as captain of the club. Klopp might not feel that is as important.}

19 May 2017 12:45:42
I think the candidates could be Hendo, Milner, Gini, Llalana and Can roughly in that order

Hendo for who he is, Milner for his professionalism and experience, Gini because he's got experience, captained before and is a midfield cog, Llalana likewise but he's a bit too mouthy for me so can come across sometimes as a boy pretending to be a man, Can is a future captain material but too early IMO.

19 May 2017 12:56:14
I can think of a few notable captains who weren't English:

Hyypia, Hansen, Souness - off the top of my head.

19 May 2017 13:17:38
A captain doesn't need to be on the pitch. Henderson will do a lot of his work off the pitch also its what he is to all the other players.

Signed
Not wanted
Tried to offload
Played
Fo7ght for everyrhing he has
Now captain

Any young player seing that there captain had the potebtial rejection there now getting or the slow start he had and with hardwork got to where he is. you can't really put a price on that.

Just to back up. Carra was never captain but was always he true leader on the pitch.

Lallana is the leader on the pitch for me but i wouodnt make him captain.

No coincidence he comes back and whwre able to press again. His hardwork inspires others around him. Thr fact it could be the 90min an he is still rnning, doesn't give other players a get out to walk around.

19 May 2017 14:03:18
Ian rush was captain as were
Kenny. Ronnie Whelan, but for shorter periods.

My mate has just said that Glen Hysen
From Sweden captained the club but I'm not 100% on that

I had even forgotten about him even as a player.

That's what age does to you.

{Ed007's Note - www.lfchistory.net/Articles/Article/24

19 May 2017 14:21:30
Another small minded thinking from BR. Hyppia was captain of Liverpool. Kompany is captain of City. Both great captains, great leaders of men and role models off the pitch. Who cares where a captain comes from provided he can do the job, be a leader of men and lead the team to success. Warped thinking, really?

19 May 2017 14:26:49
We've missed hendo. when fit he's in the team and he's a good captain. Speeds up our play which at times can be a bit pedestrian. great footballing brain.

19 May 2017 15:06:37
We need 11 captains ;)

For the record Henderson has been out the last few weeks with a thigh injury. It's not the unspellable heel thing right now. Previous posters who have experienced the affliction have confirmed that, whilst not curable, it is manageable; but significantly it will not last for his whole career. As easily as it came it will one day go away again.

That all said I don't think we need both Can and Hendo on the pitch playing the same role at the same time. It's too defensive and we play better with only one of them. They should rotate for that midfield anchor position.

19 May 2017 21:13:31
When fit and able, Henderson is the unquestioned Captain for me. And when not playing then I'd go for Can or Lovren (in that order) . Both have leadership qualities and that necessary, aggressive "you're not getting by me" look in their eyes. If they've had difficult games then I would simply say so what? Henderson and Milner have had them too. We've had the strong but silent types in Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson and Milner. Maybe time for a vocal and demonstrative leader on the pitch? For some reason, I don't think Lallana has the mettle to be a Captain. He just doesn't strike me as the guy you would turn to for an answer during a difficult situation. But I don't question his footballing skills. If Sakho had still been in the team, he would have been on my list, too.

{Ed025's Note - im with you on liverpool needing a vocal captain ra, hendo is like a mouse and even though he leads by example is far too laid back, you need a souness type who would frighten the life out of these pussies when they dont show up, i think he may have to be imported though mate as i dont see anyone in the squad who fits the bill..

20 May 2017 00:21:10
I don't have a problem with importing one little bit, Ed025. As long as it's a Captain who keeps the machine rolling smoothly, and as per plan, during the 90 minutes, I don't care where the passport is from. I'd absolutely love a Gennaro Gattuso or Romeo Benetti in the team.

{Ed025's Note - i remember gattuso ra, no messing about with him and a great leader mate, i have a feeling that he would be suspended more than playing though now that it seems to be a non-contact sport these days..

19 May 2017 09:59:50
Regarding Mbappe
May be pie in the sky BUT
Does he fit with the FSG Strategy. Worth spending big on the proven 18yr old and selling at a profit 3 yrs later?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

19 May 2017 11:03:52
Football is in just a muddle so much so that no big clubs are willing to sell their prized assets resulting in unrealistic and tbh unfair bidding for 18 year olds.
18 year olds and the youth alike should be just allowed to play football care free and as they like and anywhere they like. Money and craziness should not touch them. they should be let alone and enjoy the game and entertain the globe.
its not long away that teams will start bidding millions for 3 year olds who can dribble dabble around.

19 May 2017 12:56:46
Is he actually THAT good?
I honestly think he's still very very raw.

19 May 2017 14:27:24
His composure is first rate he has real intelligence to make the right choice between assist or shot . He's been very good and in my opinion will only get better.

19 May 2017 02:25:47
If we are to believe James Pearce from the Echo (usually a reliable source for all things Liverpool FC) our main defensive target at CB is Van Dijk. He also stated that Koulibaly from Napoli would be our second choice.
Question to Eds - Who of the two do you rate more? I have seen both play and I would definitely select Koulibaly ahead of Van Dijk.
Would like to know if others share the same opinion.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - why is he reliable? He is far from reliable and full of brown stuff.}

19 May 2017 04:54:34
Is that to say he is a brownnoser Ed?

{Ed001's Note - no, the brown stuff comes in the form of the articles he writes, which are very rarely worth reading. The Echo has gone downhill at a vast rate of knots since being owned by the Mirror group. No one will reveal anything to a paper that will just tell it all to a tabloid. If Pearce had anything definite worth having about Liverpool, it would go to the main paper, not the Echo. Which means it is pure speculation.}

19 May 2017 08:33:03
Got to agree, Pearce is a very unreliable journalist. Although the likes of Tony Barrett and Paul Joyce are both reporting that van Dijk is a target.

19 May 2017 14:18:41
That's not what I've been told, quite the reverse in fact.

19 May 2017 14:22:14
There is nothing reliable about James Pearce except for being a lap dog for his BFF Brendan Rodgers. Do you really think we are in for players like Khoulibaly, a player who rejected Conte's Chelsea last season? or MacGuire, the slowest and one of the poorest CB's in the PL? Come on, man. You got to be smarter than the article you are reading.
