Are we in talks to sign Sturridge ed02?

I think he is a good option for us, he's quick, can score and is Raheem Sterling (That's new talk for still learning, as a reminder to the ''instant fans''. :) I wouldn't be prepared to pay more than £12 million for him, personally, but his wage demands are surely going to be around £60,000 a week, a much cheaper option than Theo's proposed £100,000 a week, whether that's true or not, i don't truly know.

Our manager paid a lot for Joe Allen, quite a lot for Fabio Borini although i'm to understand they are on very good but not insane wagers. I'd be on board with signing Sturridge, despite all the groans from the majority, pending Chelsea's valuation. As Sturridge shown at times last season he's able to score, take a defender or two on and has good pace. Although yes, i agree he's not the ''complete'' striker.

Our beloved Suarez is, and fast players in and around drawing defenders, making runs and chipping in with goals is all i'm asking for. Seeing Suarez alone, turning around to his team mates and throwing his arms in the air in a ''where is everyone'' manner, for Liverpool football club is down right criminal. Glad to see it sorted out in recent weeks.

Suarez, Borini and Sturridge i think would give us plenty of goals, options and cover.

I think Sturridge needs Liverpool and Liverpool could do well by having Sturridge.

His work ethic is good, he's still young, he can score goals, he has pace, but certainly their needs tweaking to his overall game, such as looking up.

Also on a side note i was very disappointed with his reaction to missing his penalty for Team GB, i haven't ever been in that position so, i'll never know what he was thinking or feeling, but i'd never slap a team mates hand away from me in those circumstances. But like i say, i'll never know what he was thinking or feeling at that time.

Hopefully he's learned from that, makes a move for a fair price and thrives by playing regularly in a big team working to get back to the next level.

I'm 50/50 on wanting Sturridge, he has potential but gets his head down too much and can be very selfish with the ball... Sometimes you want a forward who is selfish but not sure if Sturridge picks the right times to do this...

Would love to see a front 3 of Suarez, Hunterlar & sturridge.. wow

Not sure about Sturridge but I will say this although he can be selfish, he has an eye for goal, has got quick feet and reactions to get a shot away in a crowded penalty area? We create a lot of chances to score? So if we used him the right way? Who knows? That's a chance we're going to have to take with someone? He does have experience at a big club, has scored goals in the premier, is young and if we got the best out of him? His valuation on the open market would soar. Conclusion, in our situation, probably worth the risk at the price being bandied about.

Hi Eds , hope all your multiple personalities are well!

Not sure if this is a rumour but I have heard that part of the reason that we are being linked with so many players (apart from being a bunch of daydreaming fans) is that FSG have scouted/enquired about a huge number players to ensure that the team is not left high and dry again.

This has meant that we will have a long list of possibilities ranging from the marquee young signing with high resale value to the stopgap experienced striker who we may get cheap & may keep the fans at bay.

I think it was highly unusual the way that we have done business in the last 2 windows ( chaotic,in public ,slightly desperate) but hope that whatever happens we get reinforcements .I believe there is money to spend if it constitutes an investment and not simply more money Downing the drain (oops sorry couldn't resist it)I for one prefer the club to run on a sound financial policy and not simply responding to the emotions of us fans who will always want messi & ronaldo up front ( with suarez in the hole)

FSG want the club to run a profit which long term means a stable & sustainble future but with all the short term views & in patient fans do you think they stand a chance?

Kobi

3 wins makes the fans fearful nothing else and fsg let the side down by leaving us with 1 striker. we all want fsg to be winners etc but they are not beyond critism.red mick tag ynwa

KOBI , good post mate , i liked the pun with downing , but i agree with you , were some want us to go out and buy top quality players with a top quality price ,

out of all kennys signings downing has be the worst , he wont get better , he should fit into BR's style of play but he just does not do enough for me , we as the other signings could turn out ok if they are played in the correct position , hendo played well against wigan and i seen glimpses in the past that tells me he will come on if he gets more games ,

mickey b

Ridiculous..how does he fit into rodgers 4-3-3...
he is only good in 4-4-2..
he doesnt have any clue in 4-3-3..

Hey Eds, Great site.
Is there any truth in the reports regarding interest in Aubameyang?
Cheers,
Benito

Is that you Il Duce ?

Puzzled

Don't be daft Puzzled mate, isn't it obvious it's former Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa frontman Benito Carbone?

I think I remember Ed001 hopes for Paul Stewart to come out of retirement. Heard he has a giant sized golden statue of the lad in his front garden...

19 Nov 2012 18:24:06
Hi ed how you doing today again thanks for all the hard work your going on this site. Whats the chances that we will get striker Wilfried Bony as its on alot of liverpool websites also I looked up Tomer Hemed and there no infor linking him to juventus.

19 Nov 2012 23:14:30
do you think fernando torres will ever return to liverpool? i believe brendan could get him back to the player he used to be if not close to it

Are u the same person asking this on a daily basis? Torres was yesterday NOT tomorrow.

Computer says 'No'

19 Nov 2012 22:54:06
Liverpool sign Thomas Ince:
Liverpool have a £8M bid accepted for Ince, but because of Liverpool's sell-on clause, the Reds get a 35% discount, meaning a price of around £5M.

19 Nov 2012 18:10:57
Hello Ed002,
is it possible Liverpool will go for Snijder in Jan or are his wages just too much to bear? thanks {Ed002's Note - Nope.}

19 Nov 2012 22:26:55
Andy Carroll failed to score again tonight or even have a half decent effort on target in the Monday night kickabout. Was subbed in the 86th min and was effing and blinding on the way off and pushed past tellyheadbigsam on the touchline. Think we're going to have real problems trying to offload him in the summer. wtf
kidmillions

So u pick a game which was not his best and make a assumption . The other half a dozen games where he has been brilliant for them does not mean any thing to you. The only reason west ham are doing well is because the way ward high balls they launch is won by this guy . If u are the guy who produce the knock downs and win the ball and release other players how are u supposed to score many . I know he has not scored even once but he has been their best players in most of the games . He even dominated against vincent company who according to me is premier leagues best defender(atleast aerially). In the last game against newcastle carroll was even deployed just in front of back 4 towards last 15 mins or so.
And how many chances did he have to score today -Zero .
I usually agree with u kidmillions but not on this one . He is their best player and they wont get a better player suited to their play.

Sanjit.

He's already sold If West Ham stay up.. what are you so worried about.

If west ham stay up the deal is they buy him.

We have already offloaded him....he will be bought by west ham no matter if they dont like him if they get promoted..
pray west ham get promoted and we get 18 precious mill..
that guy is awful and wont even score 5 goals this whole season..

The guy is complete waste of money and kenny will always be remembered for buying him. Not good enough! RedTurk

I saw a bit of that game and saw him flick on a hopeful long ball into the right wing area and stand on the edge of the box nearer to the right side and watch a decent cross go in. He should be busting a gut to get into the danger area. After seeing him do this so many times in red I can't help feeling he doesn't want to score.

Simon

I agree kidmillions ,

the only way we will sell him is by sending back to newcastle or abroad , for less than 15 mill

Lol everytime i watch Carroll he makes me laugh, what is it now 8 games 0 goals? Got nutmegged for the Stoke goal today too. And to think there were people slating Rodgers for loaning him out and saying things like "watch him score 20 goals this season"...
Please...

AsianRed

It's painful to watch it really is. There is nothing about any aspect of his game that warrants a place in a premiership/ championship side. The lad can't even stand up when he has the ball and then when he constantly loses it we have to endure that frown blaming everyone else. He was the monkey on Kenny's back let's hope to god he doesn't end up indirectly being the monkey on Rodgers.

Wisdom taken from bradford .
Suso from barca
Sterling from qpr .
Just a few that we all know of.
Im all for getting them in when they are young and developing them. Liverpool have invested large amounts on young players and long may it continue we are seeing the rewards and things will only get a lot better.
But one i feel Liverpool must buy and buy experience a few players good enough to be in our first 11 but also with Hugh experience. If it costs a few quid more so be it. Long term it will save million s.
Marker

Suso from Cadiz.

ri red

I am not saying that you are wrong however I dont understand why paying big bickies for an 'experienced' player who we will simply get less back for will save us money in the long run? I can see how it may make money i.e. qualify for the CL, however I do not understand how it will save money.

Andy K

Suso signed fom cadiz, not barca.

Hate to sound a smart arse but Suso was bought from Cadiz, not Barcelona.

Just finished watching our U21's, they look really good. I watched the last 2 seasons of reserves and the U21's this year look so fit, passing was excellent and you can tell the Robbo, Flanno, Samma, Adorjan and possibly Morgan are realistic first team squad players at least. Gulasci also looks fairly assurred in goal - I'd still love to see a lot of these kids go out on loan for 1-2 years, get between 50-100 games experience and then be ready for the first team.
Well done to the whole management team for starting to instill the philosophy at youth level of how the game should be played

Pelosi shhould be in that group also

19 Nov 2012 20:58:24
Can I chuck a total "left-field" suggestion of someone we may go for - Connor Wickham.
When he's with the U21's he scores for fun, so if he's with a better quality squad than Sunderland, I think he could fulfill his potential.
I reckon Sunderland would take the 8m they spent and he's still really young to develop

Nooooooooo to connor wickham

19 Nov 2012 20:56:34
In half a season(Jan09-May09)at madrid Huntelaar scored 8 goals from 13 starts (20 games total) after a 2 month (injury)lay off. That's close enough to a goal every other game for me. Plus coming back from injury, struggling for match fitness at a new team. Benzema's first season at madrid yeilded 9 goals in 33 matches. So how can people say that Huntelaar failed in Spain. When he moved to Italy Filippo Inzaghi was the main striker & Huntelaar wasn't used as a starter very often. Even if he wasn't prolific in Italy just remember that every striker has had dry spells. Slodge

19 Nov 2012 20:44:57
I have no amazing source or anything like that but a little commonsense and reading between some of the truly sensible comments from Eds and reputable posters here I feel two strikers will come in the January window.

One will be for immediate impact and given Macca's comment and our actual interest I would suspect the club hope that is Huntelaar.

The second will be another striker for the future (giving him time to bed into the team for impact next season) and I believe that will be Tello.

As I say I have no sources for this but have a sneaky suspicion that it is something that would make us all happy as Werner has suggested the club are trying to do this January.

watching the game of the season west ham versus stoke . have got neck ache now??

steve peplow

The Steve Peplow? If so, respect man

I thought they were playing without a ball but on my wide screen tv the ball was off screen all game:)

Steve Peplow...an early memory as a young red was watching him take a corner for red reserves v man city reserves....reserves were a big deal in those days

19 Nov 2012 20:41:02
got a feeling downing might be swapped for emnes of boro. plenty of potential , fast, ball player, strong and will improve - watch this space ??

steve peplow

Very good shout, worked well with Rodgers at Swansea.

Hi eds . Just watching west ham + Stoke now I personally like Andy Carroll and think he has more to offer a football team than what sam allerdyce is expecting from him . I don't think I have seen him touch the ball with his feet yet . Long ball football to say the least . Sam allerdyce has got to be the worst manager for this style of football . It's not a pretty game at all .
Thank god we have a man who likes to have his team play football the way it should be played . And starting to get the results to match .
Question . If we had loaned Carroll to a team that plays a similar style to us and he proved he can fit into that style would you be happy to have him back ?
We could save money . Just a thought .
YNWA

Jamesy {Ed001's Note - no.}

Who would you sooner go for a pint with Sam Allardyce or Tony Pulis? Could you imagine talking to either one of them two about football over a couple of pints.

You would expect a centre forward to score a few goals or perhaps even have a shot at goal :(

19 Nov 2012 20:34:06
who would you rather have?

Cavani for £30m - agree
or
Huntelaar and Rossi for £20m - disagree

i would take huntelaar and rossi myself

Walcott and eriksen for 25 million.

19 Nov 2012 23:05:55
I'm going to say Cavani, because I value Rossi at £0 seeing as he's been crocked for a year and a half and Huntelaar isn't worth £20m in his wildest dreams.

It's not like it'll be happening anyway.

- Something Red -

Walcott and eriksen would be £28m

So your say you value lucas at £0 because he has been crocked for more than a year now?

19 Nov 2012 20:14:13
Right 12 minutes into the west ham and stoke game roll on 9 o clock for Ant & Dec.

19 Nov 2012 19:35:49
Hi folks! I am really angry about Fergusons comments that we broke Michael Owen ! This man really has no class! For him to have the nerve to say a comment about one of our former players is insulting to the club. I know Owen was a judas, but man utd only had him for 2 years or so, but surely he had no right to say that. The man is still bitter about our history and will not stop having a go at us! The man has no class! Full Stop!

Mate I was told by a Professor who had done research into the management of football injuries that Owen's career would be over long before he was thirty. This was in about 2001/2002. Apperently Houllier was one of the worst managers in the league for playing players when they were injured.

Ferguson is full of the brown stuff. If Owen was that crocked, why did Madrid, Newcastle and United buy him? Are the medical facilities at Man Utd so bad that they decided to sign him regardless of his injuries....and then blame Liverpool? We may as well blame Fergie for screwing up our midfield in the 90s by giving Ince a bad attitude.

cozinoz

Fergie - senile wind-up merchant
Prof of injuries- should be a made up person. What a ridiculous title. Anyway, what does he know about individuals? All speculation and conjecture. Typical know nothing big mouth.

19 Nov 2012 19:04:54
Just wondering, which of our promising youth players are actually from in and around the Liverpool area? Don't get me wrong, I think it's great bringing this quality of youth players through but I just have a feeling that players like Suso will eventually want to go back to Spain when he hits his peak, the same regarding Sterling and London. I sincerely hope I'm wrong but just a worry of mine... Appreciate everyone's opinions, thanks

YNWA 96 Alan

Its a wee bit paranoid mate.

Football is a migrant game now and there are no "for life" players except maybe Carra who's slated to the heavens.

The Bells

Alan I wouldn't worry too much yet mate. Our footballing philosophy is very appealing to a lot of players.

Mighty reds

There is a couple coming through Coady, flano Morgan

Cecs Fabregas went to Barcelona for 40 million. If we get rid of Suso for 40 million when he is at his peak we won't be that bothered because we will have more youngsters to come through who are going to be just as good.

BthekingB

Next for lifer will probably be Carra's son if he is good enough

19 Nov 2012 18:46:51
Few ex Liverpool players in the Monday night match ( we'll say Carrolls ex for talking sake) If we had to have one of them back at the club.
Crouch....Yossi...Carroll...Adam.....Who would you pick?
Would be Crouch for me, bet he plays the best tonight out of them 4.
kidmillions

Carroll

The Bells

19 Nov 2012 19:28:40
Crouch definitely. I was about to say 'but he's getting on a bit', but now that I think of it, he's the kind of player who could last well into his 30s.

Unless his height is destroying his knees or sometihng.

- Something Red -

Yep I'd deffo take skinny

The best layer out of those 4 is Yossi. So i'd go for him.

19 Nov 2012 19:59:07
Crouchy. At least he was consistent, unlike world beater then bench warmer Carroll.
WelshBoyDave

I'll bet the ball hardly touched grass
derryred

Yossi would have flourished in our current team

I'd have yossi back he could play across the park ,create goals and scores goals

Crouch but always liked Yossi too very clever good feet

Chris in Tamworth

Id take Carrols ex

None thats why they do not play for lfc

Yossi for me every single time.

19 Nov 2012 18:29:50
We should spend all the january transfer money on Cavani..The guy is a beast! Plus the lure of playing alongside his friend Suarez will strike fear into everyone.. 37m shud do it.

RJ

Can we afford another 30M+ gamble as Cavani is not 100% guaranteed to be a success, no player is, no matter how much you pay.
I would take the gamble myself if he wanted to come here, but will the Club?..... I don't think they would.
kidmillions

Wouldnt mind getting rid of carroll 20m -25m downing 15m henderson 15m-10m cole off the wage bill add this possible 45m to what we got for kuyt maxi aqualani and buy wilfred bony and cavani i think we have plenty of cover in defence with the likes of kelly to come back who along with wisdom can play center back coates robinson and flanaghan johnson skrtle agger carragher sama the midfield is covered so just buy two players who score goals for fun we just need someone to finish off all this so called tika taka football

37M roubles?

And where does this 37 million come from?

RedSpud

19 Nov 2012 20:02:18
Cavani is not good as fans think his all goals are scored in one of the weakest league and Rodgers will never buy players taller then 5ft. If we had 30m+ to spend then Higuain would be my choice and won't demand high wages. 120/130k a week will be enough like Suarez and his younger then suarez his value will just increase as a bussiness point of view when time is right we can sell him for huge profits. Just imagine Suarez and higuain in one team what will happen to opposition haha!

I would rather use 18m and buy Huntelaar and Rossi

huntelaar for the rest of this season and rossi to act as a pre-summer signing when he is fit again in mid march

we could get them both for the same price of selling carroll its a no brainer, rossi is worth taking the risk on for sure.

and an attacking midfielder is needed then we would be set for a good push for the second half of the season.

I'm sorry, but did you just suggest that Downing would sell for £15m?

While we are at it , that Falcao seems like he could play a bit lets go for him as well.....

Wow u guys seems to play lot of fantasy league..be realistic about of the high profile players u guys are talking about,,,our club will pay money for every freaking player u guys named..but be serious do u think they will come to us..where are we at 11th n playing Europa league..So unless and untill we are league contenders and place UEFA..stop talking about all these players n stop eating eating eds brain..

19 Nov 2012 18:03:03
Theres another poster posting as "Shak" plz dont confuse us i would NEVER ask if Shane Long is coming to Liverpool he is not good enough at all

12 goals in nearly 50 games is eubbish u cant be a liverpool fan to be wanting him to partner suarez what a joke

Shak Attack

Long is better than what we have (leaving aside suarez)

Shane Long is having an excellent season, he destroyed chelsea during the weekend, he mightn't be the big name we hope for, but he has that unteachable instinct of being in the right place at the right time. It is very rare these days! Before you comment on Long watch him play! Granted I may be a bit biased because I'm Irish, but there is a reason why West Brom are 4th and gave us a tidy whooping!

Irish Redman

Long played better then Torres in one game and match of the day fever, he's not very good though.

19 Nov 2012 17:38:31
WTF!!don't u dare tell me huntelaar has class..yeah dats why he scored for fun with ajax and now schalke not madrid and milan..no way suarez would go out wide for that bloke..only falcao cavani higuain e.t.c can push him out wide..since they can't happen nobody coming in january would..I don't even understand this thrash about huntelaar..never world class and never will be..he could be useful as our second striker though..why D **** would he change his no 9 when he is scoring..it can never work only if you play 442 which won't happen..dats why rodgers is the coach not you guys..anybody coming would be a wing foward or a versatile striker who can play across the front three.,not just an out and out striker, and pls stop talking crap about the front 3 being fluid and swapping positions why hasn't borini scored if its tha simple..suarez and messi play the same position.false nine more like a free role.it now depends on the smartness on the other two to make intelligent runs into the center when the false nine drifts out..that is why rooney and rvp are working wonders..they can both create and score goals..sterling is creating not scoring suarez is creating and scoring.we need someone who can also create and score also not just score..Wow haven't u seen barca's 433 or swansea under rodgers

You seem to have a little bit of anger nameless poster however you do make some good points, we need flexible forwards who are quick and score goals.

Red1

Suarez won't go out wide for Huntelaar ??

That is exactly what he did with Huntelaar at Ajax for years and they scored hatfuls of goals .

Perhaps you were still at school then .

Suarez has played successfully alongside Huntelaar before. One of your wonder players was left on the bench quite a lot (Cavani) for Uruguay because Suarez and Forlan was the better partnership. Cavani's International goals tally is also not that great. Although he does score goals for his club in Seria A but how good is that league and how much slower than the Premier is it? I think Cavani is a really good player but not as nailed on to be the massive success that some people think.
kidmillions

19 Nov 2012 19:13:43
Mate just relax or your pressure will get high after all its just rumours. Huntelaar and Suarez combo worked well for ajax and they know very well eachother. Buying Huntelaar will make our striking option strong and worry for opposition at the sametime he is only the striker we have been linked who have a fantastic pedigree compare to others. He knows Suarez game very well no need to worry there now just take some medicine before your pressure gets high

No name again what a muppet.

How can you say Huntelaar is rubbish, he scores everywhere he has been, he has 256 goals in 392 appearances at club football and 34 goals in 59 international appearances. Id love him to sign for us in Jan.

BigD

Most of that was fairly understandable, but would it take much longer to put 'that' instead of 'dat' ?

If you could just do 'dat' you have a slightly better chance of people reading your stuff

Puzzled

And this is why you shouldn't visit Banter too often, the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

He is talking out of his back hole and dat , he does not know football or he would know suarez and huntelaar have already had a great partnership for ajax and were record scorers , so he should have checked before he copied some one elses remarks , but its ok coz hes all dat

Suarez & the rest should go where the manager tells them , Suarez has gone out wide for Borini , and Caroll so why not Huntelaar .

Suarez could score goals from the club shop if he wanted !

Boot room blarney - love to see all the opinions by the fans if not too negative but has anyone got any idea who would be dropped when lucas comes back also if we got 2 players in january e.g Huntelaar and walcott-maybe but say two more players anyway ,that would be 3 players to make way,who would be dropped i cant think of one at moment let alone 3 .

Allen?

The Irish Rover

If you can't of one name it's a good sign, competition for places is what we need, we will have many games to play if we are successful in cup competitions.

Assuming it would be Sahin dropped when Lucas is back, he's been poor the last few games anyway.

When Lucas is *match* fit, it'll be Lucas - Allen - Gerrard in an inverse midfield triangle with Lucas holding and Allen/Gerrard supporting the attack. Sahin-Suso-Jonjo-Henderson as back up/rotation.

Not sure we're getting either Walcott or Hunter-la, but it'd be Hunter thru the middle and Suarez inside forward with either Walcott or Sterling on the opposite of Suarez depending on form/fitness/rotation.

SpudRed

I don't think anyone will be dropped as such, but his return will allow Rogers to rotate/rest players without weakening the team. More than likely it will be Gerrard and Allen who will benefit from Lucas's return.
Digger

Hunterlaar won't be coming

Well the thing is.. no-one has solidified the position, it's just been Sahin-Suso-Jonjo-Henderson fighting for it. So Lucas should walk right in to the team

Allen should be dropped he's been very poor.

The Bells

Rodgers won't be dropping Allen. Allen is his pet player.

Mate, If you think Allen has been poor then I think you need a new sport!

Allen had a couple good games and a couple of average ones, I wouldn't say poor, but StevieG hasn't been great either, Nuri's not been his best of late, I'd still prefer an Allen, Lucas Jonjo/StevieG midfield, Allen was brought in to play with Lucas not for him, is it too early to try a Lucas Allen Suso? Leem

Sahin has to be one who makes way-poor

Hi Ed002,
forgive me if I repeat questions already asked. I asked a couple of days ago about the club`s transfer policy for January. It seems my question was unclear, sorry for that. All I`m curious about is whether Liverpool will look to loan players or rather go for permanent deals? Might be difficult to call right now, but in Your opinion loans or permanent deals for a striker and winger? thanks. {Ed002's Note - Ideally they would look to purchase players they want. If not, rather than buy for teh sake of it, I would expect a loan to be looked at. }

Eds do u know when borini n Lucas are fit to play again? Thanks {Ed002's Note - January and in a couple of weeks.}

Klaas Jan Huntelaar

A few seasons ago in 2009 Huntelaar was at Real Madrid and as I recall he was slated for missing chance after chance it was a standing joke on Soccer AM - Now was there a reason for this as he seems to be doing very well at Schalke with a good goal return!?

Also anyone actually know how much he would cost LFC if we really wanted him taking into account his age, contract and wages... ive heard fees of 5m - 20m been banded about plus wages of 100k a week plus!?

NS

Transfer fee would be no more than £10m

Buyout clause is £20m euro(£16m gbp)

Wages would be no more than £90k a wk

If we got him on a deal for £10m and on £90k i think it would be very good business although his ages goes against him, he is a natural goal scorer and he would score the tap ins that we miss, im not saying he is going to be brilliant but we have a good group of players at the club and am hopeful of securing 4th spot with his goal poaching ability im sure we would be up there fighting for 4th this season, and next season higher.

19 Nov 2012 17:00:12
10million for a fella in the final stages of his contract + 90k wages!? And he is 29? No chance, bad deal for the club - he is a man who has never played in England and thus is unproven there, I personally hope we don't sign him an opt for someone else, it's too much of a gamble in my opinion that will only cost the club a lot of money if it fails - surely deals of this ilk are what has brought the club to its poor financial position?

SMc

I know Suarez was a lot younger than Huntelaar when we signed him but has he ever played in England previously ? What about Torres when we signed him had he ever played over here ? No . Him and Suarez would link up nicely . Plus he is the type of striker we need . A poacher that is always in the box . I think he would be a great signing .

YNWA

Jamesy

So who do you want

Less that half the cost and half the wages of RVP, both 29. Reasonable cost for a proper finisher with a decent touch that has played and been successful with Suarez before. Plus, it gives use 2-3 years to bring thru the young kids Yesil/Morgan/Sinclair.

SpudRed

So who do you want then SMc ....

Hunterlaar would be a very good addition to the squad, as i have said many times before if Hunterlaar signed in Jan and his goals/contribution got us Champions League football which guarantees the club £30m or so a season, he would immediately of payed back his transfer fee and wages, so would you still be saying that it is a bad deal for the club.

Man Utd splashed out £25m on R.V.P and wages in excess of £220k a wk and he is 29 yrs old, thats a bad deal for any club, but if R.V.P scores the goals that wins Utd the league than its very good business.

BigD

And if he comes to England van der vaart looks to have convinced him to join spurs?!

Hey Eds.
Do you know what our scoring from corner stats are?

I can't remember the last time a liverpool forward player scored from a corner? Asking because it might have some effect on our transfer strategy for a striker so we can be more effective from set pieces. {Ed002's Note - Nope, sorry.}

19 Nov 2012 14:03:37
Kenny signed Carroll, Adam, Downing and Henderson to try and build our team around getting the ball into the box from wide positions and dead balls. All it proved was that traditional wing play is out dated. Wingers now, are faster and more technical so they can hit the by line and drill it in accurately, chip it straight onto a poachers head, or cut it back for players breaking into the box.

The long ball, and cross bombing technique is as muc hmid table acceptance nowadays!

Suarez against Everton.......twice

Rednose

Against Chelsea suso corner flicked by carra finished by Suarez b4 that probably skrtel against man city bullet header. Suarez scored from a set piece against Everton not to many though are corners have been awful since Gary mc

Suarez scored against Chelsea from a corner. That being said we are generally poor from corners.
Jason

Suarez vs Chelsea...... Carragher flicked it on

Excellent reply..KK bought 20 mill downing to supply 35 mill caroll...
caroll left..downing still with us...
downing can only play in 4-4-2..
he has no clue in 4-2-3-1 formation where the front three are more skillfull and fast..

Chelsea last week!

Carra flick to Suarez.

Do you think that Rossi would be a target he was a wonderful player untill he got injured and that showed that he and Carzorla were irreplaceable if we were to sign him he would fit into this style that Brenden like to play. As well him being 25 he'll be around for a few years to come

His injury is essentially career-ruining. No one will bother signing him until his form is proven to have returned.

Hearing about the greats of the past has inspired me to say the least. The general feeling I get is that Liverpool was truly a family back then, in the sense that we protect our own. The way people speak and spoke of Shankly.. his presence, his beliefs and his genius.. The current generation of fans need to realise, that you don't go anywhere without support!

I admit, it is hard to praise people after a poor performance, because we as fans pour our money and emotion into the club, and its only natural to feel let down. But rather than the repetitive "Enrique was awful, he should be sold and replaced", why not change that to a "Enriques mistake cost us today, lets get behind him so he can re-capture his form". After all, their is a sense of irony in the fact we call ourselves supporters and then don't do exactly what we claim to be!

If my history serves me correctly, Shankly took years to build Liverpool up from the ground, and his first season was similar to how we are going right now. He built us on the footballing ethos of pass and move. Now it is safe to say, football has changed in half a century, and pass and move has been adapted. People say "we never needed Tiki Taka for the first 5 Champions League victories".. Well people, I urge you to look at the teams who have revolutionised world football and play the modern pass and move football (Ajax, Dortmund, Barcelona etc.) It is they who cannot just look back on a rich history, but can look forward to more glory. Rodgers is a modern Shankly in my opinion. He is stamping the most modern and effective style on the team, just as Shankly did 50 or so years ago.

Fans nowadays seem to be more fickle (partly if not mostly down to the media stirring things up), and so Rodgers and players like Downing and Henderson are not afforded the time they need. I will avoid the cliche 'Rome wasn't built in a day' because if it takes us as long to win the League, as it took the Romans to build Rome, I won't be alive to see it! But the key to driving a team forward, is support and time.

Man United were the benchmark. Giving a single man time to stamp what was then 'modern wing play' onto his young team, before dominating world footaball for two decades. Now we have Barcelona coming forward with the once again revolutionised football that is tiki taka. Its a shame we are here playing catch up.. When it was required, we never saw a proper winger in the team. And now, we lack the technical side to our game that is required. But do not write off our current players.. true footballers adapt with the times.

I am chalking up half of the banter page now, so I'll try and summarise.. A long time ago, Liverpool were a cohesive unit. We were winners from the young boys sat at the table, counting there (firewood) pennies so they could go to see us play, right the way up to the board room, and it was because we stuck together. Glory is subjective. To us, a top four finish is a start.. to others, that would be deemed a victory. Aspirations define a team, and achievements ultimately decide who we are. But to use a different cliche for a change, "there is no I in team", but theres two I's in 'quick fix'. There will always be the City, Chelsea and Madrid of the world, but buying success ultimately only lasts till the oil runs out.. setting up a club with a winning mentality, and a togetherness, is something that lasts a lifetime. So thank you to the great predecessors of the current crop of people surrounding the club. All of you. And to the new generation, embrace the Liverpool way so fondly looked upon by world football, and have your part in making Liverpool great again.

"There once a dream that was Rome, now let that dream be relaised" ;)

YNWA! (Adam)

There was an interview last week I saw on LFC TV with St John and Ron Yeats. After Shankly came it was a season and a half before promotion was secured. Shankly bought these two as key players and they took time to settle in. Yeats cost £37,000 in fact (a fortune then). I didn't support Liverpool then being a young boy in Blackpool but when they came to play in about 1962 it was amazing to see these supporters taking over the ground and outsigning the home fans. Shankly did take time and he probably had more of it than BR will have but BR has also brought in players he sees as key and we should judge them and him over a longer period. At the end of the season we will know better, be positive. If the goal against Everton had been given we would now be seventh. We are OK now and proceding well I believe.

United have never dominated world football

19 Nov 2012 14:14:09
Nameless poster,

Man U won 12 league titles, 3 European cups and became the most supported club in the world in 20 years. 1990-2010. Thats as good as domination is going to get really.

Across 20 years Liverpool did the same from 1970-1990. We won a similar amount of trophies. As well as being the most supported team in the world at the time.

Now Barcelona are taking their seat at the top, drawing in more trophies and fans as the years go by.

This is my point, we played the revolutionary pass and move. Man United played the revolutionary 'wing play' and adapted it to keep with the times. Now Barcelona, have forced another revolution in the new tiki taka approach.

Bayern Munich, Ac Milan and Real Madrid have always been up there to. Munich with the wing style much like Man U's, and Milan and Madrid have grinded out 40 years of success on the back of tough football (the style were first you set up not to lose, then relentlessly force a result).

The teams that stay at the top are the ones who either keep up with the times, or like Madrid and Milan, play a destroyer style.. a style thats sole aim is to counter all others.

In the sixties we always had thousands of fans at away games because we loved the team and because you paid at the gate.great days i am one of the shankly boys and i went evry where to see them, i still do but due to ticket allocations i do not get to all the away games , but the sixties was different to now the players just got paid a little bit more than the lads at the match , and they were us on the pitch.ynwa mick t

I agree united never dominated.
against bayern jancker post and crossbar and then there miracle happened.
terry slip.
2 cl they should have lost.
last final against barca, barca had a training session against them.
i am from malta we have loads of liverpool manu fans here.
but take my word for it once you are a liverpool fan it never stop.
manu fans have other teams like juve or milan they support here.
being able to support 2 teams says it all.

They only won 2 cl in this period dont give them more than they got utd were good team but a lot of decisions have went there way and its not as bad as it used to be but there was a lot of teams that were guilty of being beat without trying to hard beat before the game even started against them.no pens against them for something like 10years AT OLD TRAFFORD SAYS IT ALL REALLY.TOMMY IRISH RED.

C'mon mate - we've also won CL Finals on pens, so should that be us down to 3??
you can't deny history, United should actually have won a lot more than they have and I honestly believe they are 2 seasons away from 4 place/no CL football, they've been living on fear-factor reputation for 3 seasons now and eventually teams will stop being scared of them.

Kidmillions, i saw you say you'd been a fan since 1959! Tell me, what was it like to see Keegan,Toshack, Callaghan and Clemence play? Was Shankly as incredible as the history books say?

Being only 18 the glory days are myths to me :/ Istanbull was the highlight of my life as a fan!

YNWA! (Adam)

Istanbul was a highlight for me also. I was born in St Domingo grove just across the road from the kop. I met Bill Shankly once and was totally speechless I was so in awe he just shook my hand.
My favourite player when I was a kid was Jimmy Melia "I tried to play like him" Later my favourite player was Emlyn Hughes but all the players you mention were great to watch. Peter Thompson was also a crowd favourite in the early days, there's been so many great players but I think you have at least seen the best in Steven Gerrard. We used to sing Beatles songs on the Kop then You'll Never Walk Alone came along. That song still makes the hairs stand on the back of my neck.
There's still nothing like watching Liverpool attacking the kop end... no matter what. Hopefully we will be back in the Champions league and challenging on all fronts. I do read and enjoy most of your posts Adam so keep it up.
Ps I used to sell firewood when I was a kid and count all the money at the kitchen table and my mum and nan used to call me kidmillions. it's a fond memory.
kidmillions

Sorry to butt in but i could,nt resist it. Shankly had an aura about him. if he had told me i could fly i would have believed him. Toshack and Keegan working together was brilliant. Everyone was convinced that they were telepathic. they even had tests done on tv. there were many more greats than those 2 though. Sir Roger Hunt, Geoff Strong, Chrissy Lawler and many more. Crazy Horse and the Anfield iron, Tommy Smith. Alec Lindsey, a superb left back whose goal in the 74 cup final was ruled out, wrongly, for offside. I sometimes wish i was 18 again but i would have missed all those memorable days.
robbie

19 Nov 2012 12:34:27
You shook his hand :O the closest i've been to Shankly, is his statue. I find it truely intriguing to hear the views of both of you kidmillions and robbie. It is weird to think that once, people idolised other players as much as Gerrard is now. And to hear the stories about how great it was to stand in the old kop, or watch the great finals is truly an honor!

I have a question for anyone who has been a fan since the 50's or even earlier..

Who is the most forgotten Hero of Liverpools history. We always here about the Rushs, the Dalglishs, the Keegans etc. But who's contribution was never credited as much as they deserved?

YNWA! (Adam)

Thats was a great read kidmillions and a good question from Adam. I, like you am a young Liverpool fan at 23 and my first taste of Liverpool glory was in 2001 when we won 5 cups! My grandad sits me down now and then (usually around christmas time) and goes through some of the old programmes hes collected over the years and reminises on some of the great nights hes experienced. I sit there listening like a little boy as i always believe you never grow too old for one of grandads past tales! Great to hear the old storys though.

Apples ;96;

Great post kidmillions i heard sir mat busby was a great player for us and bill liddell.Tommy Irish Red

Great story Kid

Muggitzo

I have a Shankly story as well if you don't mind.

My dad wanted a ticket for a game (I can't remember the game or the year) so he wrote a letter to Shankly and sent £1 and asked him if he could get him 2 tickets. Shankly sent my dad 2 tickets and a letter asking him to meet him so he could give him his change from the pound. My dad's bottle went though and he didn't go to meet him. He still, to this day, hates the fact that he didn't go and meet him.

Great Question Adam. I think undoubtadly that for me would have to be Ron Yeats I think he was the Rock that Shanks built his first great Liverpool team around and is hardly ever mentioned in fans best 11 nowdays. Bobby Graham was also the first great supersub for us and played his part in many a late goal. I think Yeats is also still Liverpools longest serving captain?
kidmillions

Fantastic post that kidmillions my dad started going around 62/63 and his favourite player was peter thompson! he loved to watch sir roger and st john as well. did you go to goodison when a toffee approached st john in a gorilla outfit? haha or when sandy brown scored that infamous own goal? my dad always said that the best game for atmosphere was everton away in the derby, think goodison held close to 70,000 back then.

ian the red

I, like kidmillions was there in 1959 - my hero through the 60's was Ian St John - but since then there have been 2 outstanding players that spring to mind that never got the international recognition - Ray Kennedy ( stroke of genius by Bob Paisley ) and the irrepressible Terry McDermott, the best midfield player I've seen with respect to his timing of his runs, always available, always knew where to run - gave the other 10 in the side incredible options because they knew he would make the right move - and never ever seem to get tired because of it, and also scorer of many great goals - and to make things even better along came Souness - the hardest player we've ever had.
Kennedy, Souness and McDermott, what a midfield ( and then throw in Jimmy Case as well ) - never been bettered by any British side.

Check out Youtube for Terry Macs goal against Spurs in 1978.

John B

19 Nov 2012 13:47:34
I had genuinely never heard of Ron Yeats or Graham. But It is great to hear about forgotten legends. Without the story tellnig of the longer standing Liverpool fans, Legends like that would be forgotten. Although I've recently been told Ron Yeats and Ian St John were Shanklys first two signings!

Just the fact Liverpool have a history like this to discuss is something rare in football today. Heres to the future though, and to never forgetting those who represented our great club :)

YNWA! (Adam)

I never saw Busby or Liddel play, my dad did and Liddel is still his favourite player. I met Billy Liddel on a number of occasions as he used to present Medals at end of season ceremonies and five a sides at Liverpool University. He was physically a very powerful looking guy and he was getting on then when I met him. He had hands like shovels and a massively powerful neck. It wasn't hard to imagine him powering headers home.
kidmillions

I was at the Sandy Brown game, the banter from that goal lasted for years :):)
kidmillions

To John B : St John was a great player. you might remember this, I was at a game at Anfield in the sixties and the Saint carried the ball just heading it half the length of the pitch, his heading ability was that good.
kidmillions

I was there kidmillions - and also remember the tricks Peter Thompson did down the line before some games - although we didn't win that many trophies in the 60's - the atmosphere with 26 ( or 28 ),000 Kopites cheering every touch - in EVERY game will never be forgotten - we were very lucky to be there.

And the best game I ever experienced was 5th May 1965 - when we battered Inter Milan ( only to be robbed in the second leg ) - everyone talks about the St Etienne game - but it wasn't a patch on that game.

John B

Geoff strong versatility itself
Paisley's genius

Another classic 1965 memory - Geoff Strongs winner against Celtic in semi final - he could hardly walk after picking up an injury - but managed to jump high enough to power his header into the net. Remember my mates telling me the radio commentary was saying he was only a passenger when he scored.

My news rumours

Carroll to return!
Downing to leave.
Sterling to extend contract worth 40k a wk.
Walcott to sign 5 yr deal.
Pearce to sign 4 yr deal.

Rumours

Hearing Rossi is being watched? Although injury problems.
Still rumours around that Huntelaar will sign.
Bony being watched apparently?
Becchio is another player we are being linked with?
Zaha rumours still lingering.
Austin is being watched by a number of clubs including us.
Aubameyang another player on the radar.

Okay, this seemed failry reasonable.. until you said Rossi is being watched. Now I know scouts must get the odd boring assignment, I mean some poor bugger got sent to watch Heskey play once, but If we are paying somebody to watch Rossi hobble around the Villareal training complex on crutches whilst nursing cruciate ligament damage, its no wonder we're losing money as a club!

Adam - I think the one unsung hero of the LFC glory years has got to be Ian Callaghan. He played 857 games from 1960 to 1978 (18 years !!). Not a spectacular midfielder (No. 11), but fast enough, gritty, industrious and always a last pass provider. It's a pity he doesn't get acknowledged as much as the others from the same era given his extraordinary lengthy loyal service to the club. My personal favourites from the time (70's) are Keegan, Heighway and Fairclough. The way Anfield would erupt in a roar when the red curly-haired string bean Fairclough would come in as a substitute is still a memory. ra1969

Heard we have offered Arsenal 5mil & Downing for Walcott. Wenger is a admirer of Stuart and tried to sign him when he was at Villa. Apparently it's done. {Ed002's Note - There is nothing done.}

Downing £20m - True Value £10m
Walcott £8m - True Value £15m

Should it not be a straight swap as Walcott has 6 months to run on his contract and Downing has 3 years although i don't see Downing as a Wenger type of player.

Arsenal dont play with a out and out winger..
they play 4-2-3-1 and downing dont have a chance in it....

Formations are really a thing of the past mate...

Formations are a thing of the past? really then what was rodgers playing at in the last 3 games switching to 5 at the back against evertoon, switiching from 5 to 4 at the back against chavski, and switching from 1 up 2 down to 2 up 1 down in midfield against wigan.

Just saw a great interview after the youth match against Wolves, pitch side with Michael Ngoo on youtube. I don't know the rules about providing external website links, so i'll not do that, just in case i get the ban hammer coming down on me.

But it's simply titled ''Michael Ngoo Interview'' and i'll relay some of it verbatim for you.

Interviewer: ''You were playing on the right hand side, is that a role you don't mind playing?''

Ngoo: ''Um, obviously that's not my position, Adam Morgan's not here but for Liverpool i'll play anywhere, i'll die for this team. You know, i love this team with all my heart, so i'll play anywhere, i'm happy.''

Ngoo (continues) :''If the manager (Rodolfo) puts me right back, or in goal i'll do my best and i think i did my best today on the right mid.'' End extract.

Ngoo also talks a bit about Pacheco and what influence Rodolfo has had on his own career to date. Great stuff, all positive and worth watching. Any of the Ed's want to share their take on how Ngoo is progressing, it would be much appreciated.

i really hope we get huntelaar ,and holtby , but huntelaar is the top priority , forget his age because he is scoring goals , plus if he and suarez can rekindle their partnership they had a ajax then we will get 4th , its that clear ,you only have too look at their time at ajax, plus it think they have the same agent and it would make surez even happier , plus if holtby comes aswell he will already know huntelaar and the trio would set the prem alight ,plus i think he is aperfect replacement for stevie

Now dont get me wrong I happen to like Rodgers but i dont like this way of talking.....I understand fully where the club are at but to state youve been let down in the transfer window regarding striking options then to say we'll be rectifying that in January to now we are in a difficult situation and we dont know if there will be much change is ludicrous.......im not sure i just hope its not all politics and preparing the fans for nothing to happen.....Why on earth would you have Carra on the official website saying top four is a possibility for then the manager to say it was always going to be a hard year etc etc.......My own preference seeing as though we are Liverpool and not Swansea is this.....We will be trying our very best on all fronts to achieve a top four finish and maybe some silverware to go with it......since when did we become a side with low expectations!?.......Im sorry but ive supported since 1975 and i know things have changed especially now but come on, even Kenny won us something and got to two finals last year with a weak squad and he also never talked down our chances of anything........
Come on Brendan man if your going to warm the hearts of the fans stop talking about your 3 envelopes and the difficulty of the squad and give us hope in our hearts....THATS what were all about not subjecting ourselves to the realities of mid table mediocrity.........save that for your beloved Swansea thankyou.

Maybe he knows something you dont and just maybe theres some one coming who will put a smile on all our faces , or just maybe he does not want to build our hopes up after the win on saturday just to lose our next game , if you dont know anything then keep your mouth shut , because it was not BR's fault in the last transfer window or maybe you think he should buy players with no money , like he said last week we are in transission and we should look forward not backwards , i agree with that , we are not in any position to say we are liverpool and should be treated differetly to our position in the league , we may not be swansea but that does not give us the right to think we are still the best in europe or the world time as moved on and we have gone backwards if you dont know this then your living in the past

I've supported Liverpool since 1959. Forget silverware for now. Brendan Rodgers is setting about putting the Club back where we belong. We must first and foremost get back in the top 4, then challenge for the title. Pass and move football, 100% commitment and everyone pulling in the same direction from the board right down to the players in the acadamy will bring us success and the silverware we desire consistently.
Not just a cup win to paper over the cracks every now and again as has been the case over the last 20+ yrs.

Carragher needs to wind his neck in,the less he plays, the more he talks

With limited funds in jan(around £10m+) Rodgers is looking for 1 out and out striker, 1 utility player along with a ingenious gamble. Two players will be up or sale on good prices to provide funds and clear wasted wages with pacheco likely to be sent on loan in spain.

Cole - £1.5m (saving £4m in wages) but paying him off £2.5m = £3m saved and to go towards transfer kitty.
Downing - £7m
= £20m+ kitty

Out & Out Striker - Huntelaar, st; £6m. (he is a proven striking partner for Suarez where both players scored goals and he is in his prime at this moment)

Utility Player - Michel Bastos, lw-rw-lwb; £6m plus £1m if we make top 6.(to provide Enrique with competition and bring more pace and experience to the side)

The Gamble - Giuseppe Rossi, st-ss; £11m (he is due back on 11th of the 3rd and would be available for 9 games maybe more if he recovers quicker so would provide that extra bit of class to finish the season of with good momentum with chelsea being the only top 4 team we face for the last 9 games. BR feels that he is worth taking a risk on due to his age, talent and style of striker and if he doesn't settle in at liverpool then he would be fit and ready in the summer so would sell at a profit however marginal that may be and if he works then we have a £20m striker for the price of chips and 2liter diet coke so win win).

January spending £13m - £15m

So we will take a gamble on Rossi in the hope he comes back as the player he was. With little time to get match fit, but should he not then we are going to sell him for a big profit.

Can you please tell me what his 'Unique selling Point' would be, which team (apart from us) would be daft enough to buy injury prone and possibly passed it player, and also what time is your medication.

All the best

Rossi is a croc he has been all his careea , even when eh was at united

I am amazed at the valuations and saving's you come up with. I say wait and see what happens in January. I can't see a descent striker coming to us in the next window, as we will probably pay way over the odds, in transfer fees and wages and be no better off.

Lol the valuations are based on these facts.

huntelaar in january has 6months left on his contract

michel bastos isn't playing at lyon

and Rossi not only has a injury but villareal are in need of what ever they can get off rossi and no team will pay higher than that for him without risking huge losses on him.

{Ed002's Note - In respect of Bastos, de Kerchove has spoken with two clubs over the possibility of a January transfer to get his client out of France. Neither club is Liverpool.}

19 Nov 2012 08:20:12
Surely Rossi's injury record means hes a mega risk

He is a risk but would be ingenious if it pays off and he will be cheap so we wont look like fools if it doesn't work.

We would have lost more money on Adam if we get Rossi and he doesn't pan out as he is Class and very marketable when fit.

Lets hope Werners statement about Suarez is true! And he/we can prove our intent with some quality joining nim at Lfc

19 Nov 2012 08:03:23
I hope this isn't true - remember the last injured Italian we bought?
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is considering a gamble on Villarreal's former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi, 25, as he bids to solve his striker shortage, even though the forward is out with knee ligament damage at the moment.

To not have faith that in a player with that type of injury is stupid as we just got over that with lucas. before he got injured he was a hot target of Barca's for around 25-30m euros

if we can get him for cheap when he is injured £9m - £12m then why not. i would through in pacheco for free if it helps.

think if he is fit he is the perfect striking partner for Suarez + we need a leftie up front. he is only 25 aswel and would be looking for a team that he can thrive in when he becomes fit. he would have a lot of spanish speakers there and borini for is also a young italian and he speaks perfect english so won't miss out on banter (unlike Aquilani who was alone when Dossena left)

Rossi was brought up in america mate so he can speak english perfectly.

Hi eds,

do you think Torres/Owen will play in Gerrard testimonial?

Be very interesting considering Torres and he had good on field relationship.

red snake {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

I hope Gerrard's testimonial will be against Milan.

19 Nov 2012 12:28:33
Gerrard testamonial should be:

Reina
Finnan Hyypia Carragher Riise
Alonso Hamman
Gerrard
Fowler Heskey Owen

Dudek, Agger, Mascherano, Lucas, Garcia, Baros, Bellamy

Houllier as manager for the ocassion.

I'd love to see Gerrard re-united with some of his greatest friends throughout his career.

As well as being managed by the man who started it all by givng him the arm band.

And i think Man United or AC Milan :)

YNWA! (Adam)

Adam if Gerrards friends through his career play how could you leave out Danny Murphy.

19 Nov 2012 17:41:24
If Gerrard's going to call in a former manager, it should be Rafa, he played his best football under him. Suspect he won't though.

I'd be surprised if Owen doesn't play in it. Alonso probably will too if he's available. Torres I'm not sure about.

BR ain't going to mad in JTFW as he looks to add to the srikers.

Walcott is top of the list for the long term £6/£8m

but BR could also be set to make a £3/£4m bid for a back up striker with Djibril Cissé topping this list.

£50m will be set aside for the STFW after BR gets rid of few big earners, who now offer nothing to the team.

MADRED

Cisse?? We had him in his prime and even then he was average

To be fair rafa played him down the wing, and both legs broken didnt help him first time around.
he still loves LFC and would give 100% when called upon

Apart from the FA Cup final, my memory of Cisse was him getting free of the last defender, running in towards goal and blasting it into row 16.
Almost every game.

cozinoz

You didnt watch the super cup game then?

13 goals in 49 games not bad for a winger who played half them game recovering from injury

Nooooooo useless

BR's January Transfer Strategy is already turning into another Transfer Shambles even before it starts. "The reality is that there was going to be a bit of movement this season ..." is a complete turn around from what BR said before the end of last transfer window. His strategy is to make excuses on behalf of the owners..."

I think his transfer policy is fine, I rememebr the berating he got for not getting Dempsey, Siggurdson, Ramirez, in hindsight I would say thank god we didn't, they've been useless.

What's your excuse? You seem to have some Angst. Try to remain calm. The reality is it's only November.

Hey Eds I've got a question regarding Suarez's new contract.

Was it a contract extension or just a pay raise, keeping the old contract length? I only ask because I've seen conflicting reports on different sites, including here. I was just wondering if the club has announced the official contract length or if you, Eds, know the length. {Ed002's Note - It extends the contract until 2018.}

Damn that's long he plans to win the PREM or CL then.

Suarez is on a mission

Boot room blarney - hi eds -when we get away from too much negativity we have some great posts by great fans ,do you know if LFC will be doing a followup to the fly on the wall series that was on tv at the beginning of the season?
Its going to be great this season seeing players come in from injuries and transfers and wondering who they are going to replace for example if lucas is our DM and Huntelaar-maybe-a new striker,and walcott-maybe- a winger or if he comes he would want the central striker role he craves for so if that happened what 3 would be dropped - discuss- i know the players except lucas are hyperthetical-hope i spelt that right-but we will probably get 2 players anyway,exciting but i dont know who i would leave out thank goodness for BR . {Ed002's Note - I don't know if a follow up is planned.}

Not sure if Being: Brendon Rogers was such a great PR exercise. A sequel could be devastating.

I just can't wait for January. I always get to worked up before a transfer window but in our specific situation it's going to be so interesting to see who where going to get in jan or even if we do get some players. I think it's almost certain we will get at least 1 player but the quality of that player may vary. Just can't wait

While the transfer window is exciting and I can see where you are coming from, there almost appears to be more interest in the transfer windows than the actual season sometimes. We finish the summer window and before we are two games in, we are asking what is going to happen in January. I am a football fan first and love to watch football. If there wasnt a January window, I would be fine with it. That being said, I don't think it is bad thing.

Walcott/Sterling/Suso--Huntelaar--Suarez

I'd absolutely love it if our front line looked like that after January.

Oh, Arsenal away at the Emirates January 30th, Walcott's first game against his old club perhaps? Huntelaar's third game against Arsenal this season having scored in both previous encounters? Coincidence?

Don't get why people are worrying about Suarez being "pushed out wide" if a player like Huntelaar is signed in January. Rodgers system is very clearly based on a fluid attacking unit that can interchange and drag the opposition defenders out of position, it is of course designed to be difficult to defend against. It suits Suarez perfect and is a system he also flourishes under with his national side in a front 3 of Cavani, Forlan and himself.

Suarez regularly pops up out wide during the course of our games, and moves freely along the front line. I feel it is narrow thinking to suggest a player like Huntelaar would take away from Suarez, it would in fact do the opposite. A player of Huntelaar's class should have no problem fitting into a fluid attacking formation like the one Rodgers employs. I also feel Walcott would be a good addition but I have serious doubts about Hooper and Sturridge.

Furthermore, as has been mentioned by numerous posters both Suarez and Huntelaar enjoyed a successful partnership at Ajax together and we wouldn't be paying over the top to Schalke seeing his contract expires next Summer. It does have to be said though that he will most likely sign a new deal as I am certain Walcott will do at Arsenal. I am afraid then that Rodgers will turn to Sturridge.
The Gooch

Agreed.
Majority of play involving Luis almost solely depends on him drifting wide to recieve the ball anyway.

Enrique's goal against Wigan is the first time this season I can remember a Liverpool player getting that sort goal. Them sort of chances normally go begging. Suarez doesn't just score goals he creates loads of openings. That's where a player like Huntelaar would excel in our team.

Torres is gone and will never return. A year ago, the same people asking for his return were asking for his head. Fickle world we live in. I wish the lad all the best when he gets shipped to Italy or Spain

Canada Red

I think a lot of people will drop their resentment towards him once he leaves the PL. He left a bitter taste.

I would have him back, for the right price of course.....if he was open to a return and we could afford it then why not?

19 Nov 2012 00:12:52
I don't agree with people saying we shouldn't buy a central striker like Huntelaar, because it would move Suarez out wide. BR has said on many occasions the front three are interchangeable. Look at Sterlings goal vs Reading! A finisher in the front three would just add more potency, I'm sure Suarez can get goals and do magical things wherever he plays in this trio!

Suarez is best when he has that space to make things happen. He will not have that space on the wing. He is playing the false 9 which gives him so much room that it makes him unplayable. I think we just need another top quality winger.

BthekingB

And when suarez is banned/injured? (touch wood)

Huntellar can knock balls onto Suarez, there is no reason why they wouldn't work together and make allowences for each other as it would be a ''partnership'' the clue is in the description people.

Suarez scores bags of goals for Uruguay and played in a partnership with Forlan very successfully and now with Edison Cavani and again successfully. So try not to be so ridged in thought.

It would be interchanging through a match, extremely dynamic and ever changing. No two dribbles are ever 100% a like, neither are any two matches, little events lead to big events. If Rodgers has asked for a player like Huntelaar then it's because he wants to use him, although i don't see why Carroll was launched out the door in such a hurry if we are just to get another big target man.

Do agree with the last poster except the Huntelar/Carroll comparison. Carroll's movement is awful and so he's impossible for a player like Suarez to play with.
kidmillions

I disagree about Carroll and Suarez, sure when Carroll first arrived lame with a dodgy ankle, of course he was extremely slow out of the blocks and it took extensive training to regain his Newcastle pre-injury form, but he did become an instant handful for defenders after his substitution during the Newcastle game.

Obviously i would concede the point that it was long over due and once Carroll left on loan, it didn't take long before he found himself on the West Ham medical bench. But Carroll and Suarez did start to click and goals were on there way. We had much of the problems being resolved i thought. We didn't get to the cup finals, beating Chelsea (the eventual CL winners and City the League winners) and United, only losing in the final of the F.A Cup to the eventual CL winners, with them hanging on for dear life after Carroll's was brought on in the second half.

The midfield was a huge problem last season after Lucas' injury. We hit the post in the end almost as much as we scored. Suarez arrived in England on the back of a ridiculous amount of goals and even when Carroll wasn't playing Suarez wasn't doing what he is now on consistent footing, although i personally though he was playing as good as anyone could arriving in January, but the following season he wasn't as prolific, but someone like Suarez, if they aren't scoring it's because other players are finishing what he's making, quite often, because he plays between the lines and shuffles out wide during games..

So i don't think Carroll is totally at fault when the whole team was in a pickle for much of Kenny's official tenure, after 9 new payers who failed to gel cohesively over 12 months. I think it's also logical to ask ourselves ''How many goals can Suarez score?'' As all are goals are coming through him at present. Also Swansea, who were praised for their team cohension only managed a goal haul in the League that was in the 40's, i think, we had more and we also hit the post about 30 times. So even in a pickle, we were performing to the level of a very good lesser team, which is expected from a big team out of sorts. Which is why we finished within a point of Swansea, which is why i mention them.

It also leads to the question, does Rodgers methods lead to goals? Danny Graham shone with 16 goals and Siggy who got 8 from 17 starts and that was pretty much half of their goals, through two players and others like Dyer chipped in. Maybe worth keeping an eye out for?

when torres left he said he was doing liverpool a favour at the time he got loads of stick for this , but i think he really meant it because i think his injurys have had a big impact on him thats why he has not been the same player for chelsea as he was for us , and he never will be , but and this is a big but if he is not injured and he can get back to his best , well we are not really in a position to knock back a player of his quality back especially if he wants to come back to us instead of A.MADRID

JFT96

Lets just put it this way. He's won the euros twice, the World Cup once, champions league and other domestic cups. He's had a great career but his peak days are behind him and only 1 club knew had to utilise him. That was lfc. He did us a favour, £50mill and the birth of Suarez is a big favour.

Move on Mickey, move on

Don't think Chelsea supporters will lose any sleep over Torres when he leaves but seriously would any one. We are trying to move forward. Torres would be a backward step and too much of a gamble.
If he came back and scored lots of goals people would say it was a no brainer on the flip side if he came back and was struggling and sulking and on top whack wages, which in my opinion is much more likely. Well Brendan Rodgers would get the blame. "As we all know it's never Torres fault in his world"
kidmillions

I really don't see the big hang up is with wanting torres to return to Anfield. There's several other options I'd much prefer to look into rather than entertain the notion of a torres "homecoming", even if January is a difficult window nonetheless.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Who wants Torres when we could get Huntelaar? All we have to do is get luis to give him a call, surely huntlaar is bright enough to know their partnership will be klaas.
Indian Buzzer

I wrote that about torres because its what i believe , as i said if he can play like he did when he was with us i would have him back , but i think he is finished because of his injurys , but if we had the option of him or huntelaar then my vote goes to huntelaar ,
