Hicks looks to private equity to keep Liverpool

By Rob Harris, AP Sports Writer
LONDON — Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks is launching another bid to keep hold of the Premier League club by securing financing from a private equity company.
Hicks along with co-owner George Gillett Jr. had put the club up for sale in April, saying they lacked the funding to take Liverpool forward, on and off the pitch, due to its debt of 237 million pounds ($370 million).
But the lack of formal offers for the 18-time English champions has led to the Texan putting together his own financing deal, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Sunday. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

RE: Hicks private equity guys

Hicks is friends with these private equity guys, they have gone in on deals wroth 13billion together. This will be easy for him to sort out.

It will be hell for liverpool. (next 2years)

I hope LFC have good young product coming through David N'Gog may end up being our only option upfront.

RE: Carragher

as some people may notbe a fan of carragher, he is needed in that team. Carragher is a leader of men, he orgnise that back line, and he is able to play dirty *use his experience in games.

I understand he has slowed down, but i think he saved us being 3nile down in the first half. Paul Kon was to blame for the headed goal, not carragher. The crosses where not being stopped.

Also:
Arsenal-1
Man city-0 (we lost ground)
WBA-3
Birmingham-1
Man U.-0 (we lost ground)

If we are to make it in top4, which is possible, we need to draw games against these teams.

Hodgson should know losing will open up a gap. {ed's note - Carra and Skrtel were just as to blame for the headed goal, Skrtel could easily have cut it out but he had dropped too deep and Carra should have been heading it clear but he had dropped off his man as well. The defence's lack of pace made them drop far too deep and cost us badly as it will continue to do until they are both removed from the defence. I see Ayala has played well for Hull, terrible mistake to send the lad out on loan when he should be playing alongside Agger this season.}

Watched today's game - first half awful; second half more than encouraging.

However, I witnessed two players not up to the task - Maxi & Konchesky (both awful). Maxi should never play again and please, get Aurelio fit as Konchesky was tormented all game.

Re Hicks' proposed buyout of Gillet and subsequent sole ownership of the club (the proposed financing from the private equity firm), it'll never happen. If Hicks was to secure a 2 year loan/ refinance, he will not invest in the squad and if that transpires, there will be no Champion's league football. No Champs lge will reduce the value of the club (in addition to big names leaving as a result thereof) and Hicks may find even bigger problems as those private equity guys levy big interest rates.

We just need to sit tight and hope. . .

I am a liverpool fan and i fear for the future of are club, it looks like hicks is going to get his way with our great club. I have to ask is there anything that can stop him from taking control, or are we doomed.

Liverpool for life

Hi Roy
Although to some degree you are correct but the fact is that if a team is going to become Champions the main rivals must be defeated at home with at least a draw away. This means that we are already 4 points down on any expectancies. I would also like to say that I have never been a Carragher fan. I had expected that he would be replaced last season by Agger and Skrtel and the fact that he is still there is a serious enditement on Liverpool. I believe that Wilson couldn't do a worse job and would at least be gaining some experience in what is going to be a poor season. At the end of the 2008/ 9 Season we were all extremely optimistic but I can hardly think of a match that I have enjoyed since that season ended. There is no sign of anything getting better on the pitch as well as off. I'm a glutton for punishment however and will still be watching as many matches as I can!

RE:Targeting new Revenue

your right about targetting new revenue, and lfc day trippers should stay away from Anfield untill Hicks leaves.

I heard 30percent of Profits come from Corporate boxes. If they stayed away then lfc would feel it in the pocket and hicks would be forced out.

Celebrity LFC fans would have to get behind the message and push it through the media.

Also Man U Fans seem also have good strategy of making own hats + Stuff with Green + Yellow, Liverpool should do the same. It will show just how un-pop the americans are, and will provide the fans with money organise against Hicks.

Houllier and McAllister

I would of rather seen at Anfield. i think they will do well together.

McAllister did so well for us at liverpool, he was really good player in his time.

RE: Tom Hicks gain's control of the club all liverpool fans should boycott

Im with you, no bank in the world would loan to a shop if all the customers in the world turned around and said we wouldn't shop here if he owned it.

It would make loan risky.

But the problem is liverpool fans. They will contine to keep going back even if LFC emplyed 3rd division players that stood around for 90minutes.

The Fan is a true Mug of the game, every owner know this. If a fan gives up his season ticket, 10 people will be waiting to purchse it behind him.

its impossible to organise fans into boycott anfield. Plus fans that do give up season tickets will lose out in the long run.

Season ticket holder's have already paid for there ticket's so it would not matter if they still went to the game, and i know nobody would give up a season ticket that has taken years to get. It is all new revenue we could affect, this man is going to take every penny he can out of the club we must do all we can to try and stop him. At the end of the day what is in the best interest of the club putting more money in the pocket's of Tom Hick's or doing everything we can to get rid of him.

RE:David Moores

Concerning David Moores and liverpool fc. Back in 1996 liverpool where offered King's Dock football stadium as liverpools new home which as part of King's Dock regeneration the city was going through.

David Mopres turned down the opportunty of goverment build stadium at a cut down £30million. King's Dock stadium would been 60,000 seater and goverment built as a regeneration program.

Instead managed to get planning permission for 60,000 stadium at stanley park at the cost of 300million that he and the club didn't have.

Liverpool Council offered King's Dock stadium to everton, who couldnt afford 30million ever.

I can't understand why he would get the plans in place, and then bring in arse-holes like Hicks as new owners.

I understand Moores is too poor to run a large club like liverpool, but when he was offered King's Dock project for 30million. I would have bitten the councils hand off.

I know the potential to expand the club is 0% in that location, the club would have been in a better position today if he took the deal.

The city would be in a better state too.

I just can't understand a man like him.

He must have been planning to sell the club since he got control of it in 1991 and by 1996 he could see the wage bill of foreign players was likely to make it unprofitable to own a club.

Where was the pace in our lineup today?! The only way got any kind of attack going was just forcing the ball in to Torres and hoping he did some magic (when he is clearly put of form) or let them foul him. Why not Babel? Maxi is s* t!
A disappointed red

Lets face it, if we snatched a late 3rd goal before berb scored the winner this site would be full of praise. We need to keep our chins up. Wait til we've played atleast 10 games and see where we lie. Its been a tough few games. I think top 4 is unrealistic at the mo but if we get new owners And a few more players in jan then its a possibilty. Keep the faith

I hate to say it but Carra's days are numbered. Also, Maxi does not bring enough to the team.

I am disappointed we havent bought pace in the last few windows and that will be needed in January. We can't set up to hit teams on the break (two holding midfield players) and not have any pace to support Torrres. Of the remainder would like to see Meireles and Gerrard be the two central midfield players. Cole behind Torres supported by Babel and Amoo on the wings - esp when playing at home.

If Tom Hicks gain's control of the club all liverpool fans should boycott the club completely all games club shop every aspect of the club. If the club is not making any money surely he would be forced to sell up and quickly. If the bank's that considering to finance Hick's were made aware that fan's were planning a complete boycott do you think they would still loan him the money. The fans have to consider this idea, because all the protest's and banner's in the world will not affect Hick's, all he care's about is money. Would like to know what other fan's think to this idea.

RE: post about Hicks.+ future club

No body inside the club seems to be that concerned about the club. They all just want their money. Hick + Banks + players.

Who in football has any love for the game.

Hodgson must of gotten alot of money to join a shambles of club like liverpool. By the end of this job his reputation will be no better than graham sournesses

The man who put liverpool back by 10 years.

He should have taken the England Job, he would have happy wotching these games as rock-star in the directors seats. Than trying to lead this mess of team.

Torres + Gerrard will walk if Hicks stays for another two years. We will get in Carlton Cole and some other has been like Lee Bowyer.

We will be fighting with teams like West-ham to stay in the premership. Europa will look like a dream abition for the club.

At this Level we have already seen Arbeloa Alonso Mascherano Aquili walk + Plus Benitez.

i can't see Gerrard wanting to stay at his age, Torres was all about money, top-flight-football. Something that we can't offer him

19 Sep 2010 21:19:15

Ed I can't honestly remember but ok Moores sold the club but why is it his fault? He obviosly sold it for extra to these muppets but don't you think he genuinely thought they were gonna do everything. they promised the stadium, the money for the naming rights to the stadium , to quote buy a top player every season. approx 200 mil for players. . Was there a protest when they took over? Or was everybody cockahoop? {ed's note - it is Moores' fault because he had every opportunity to build a new stadium but sat on his fat backside and did nothing. It is Moores' fault because he sat on his fat, greedy backside and did nothing about improving the commercial arm of the club when it was clear to everyone that it was dropping behind the rest. It is Moores' fault because he made no attempt to find out about Hicks before selling the club to him, all because he was offered £8m more. £80m that he never did anything to earn was not enough for the greedy get, he had to have that extra £8m plus the lifetime presidency and free entry to the games and all expenses paid trips to all the matches with the squad. Moores was still costing the club thousands of pounds a match after selling the club. His greed is without bounds. As for people's happiness, most were happy, but then they didn't know about Hicks's record at Corinthians. Myself I was unease purely because they were Americans and clearly had no clue what they were buying, but I was prepared to give them a chance, I wish I hadn't now though.}

RE: Dickie Di Doh- Your rght with 442 but

I think Hodgson has not fully comitted to one formation.

He should pick 4-4-1-1 or 442. Also playing Gerrard higher up the pitch made him easier to mark. Darren Fletcher was always around him in the first half.

At utd away, the first half is aways 45 min of defending, and hodgson went to do that.

Then wanted to play 442 wit Nogo. I think he should have lined up with decent 4-3-2-1-1, chelsea formation and played counter attack, defensive first half.

Then switched to his 4-4-2 second half.

Kelly should have been given game time against the likes of WBA, Birmingham, not at MAn u away.

i was disappointed by the man u fans, seeing the abuse our players get from them. having things thrown at our players. I understand know why Eric Cantina Kicked one of them in the past.

Kelly should be introduced in home games, against bottom half teams, put on as a sub and build his game time up. Paul Konchesky looks like a player who won't finish most games. Bring Kelly on toward then end for him.

Poluson might work as a defender, Hodgson should look into using him as a rightback.

Right it should now be clear all those that wrote the club has been sold don't know diddley. also those that have been cleaning windows or at a do and met such a such . talking nonense.

Facts at the beginning of the week i told you all what hicks was up to . this is not man who wants to give up easily christ remember he is used to making and losing money if there is a chance to pocket a few million he is NOT going to walk away. Likewiswe there are plently of banks willing to lend money if the interest is high.

Think about Mr B said there were 6 bids on the table . .nonense there were 6 who flagged up an interest but that's as far as it goes. Torres stayed cause he was misled we had a buyer. we do not and now he knows that hence his 'dont want to be here' performances.

All the board members have their own agendas . hicks will use this to his advantage.

Forget people on this sight saying 'dont worry'
christ look in the mirror . it really is that bad it is no longer about winning finishing 4th its about the future of our proud club.

We missed the boat when Moores sold us . he failed the club and the fans

What next . well as i said Hicks will announce in the next 14 days he has total control of the club. god knows what will happenthen but it won't be . .'and they all lived happly ever after'

and before anyone replys stating . look on the bright side .

Well. Done. Dimitar. Berbatov. The player scored a great second goal. The headers liverpool let in, were disappointing defensive mistakes. But he did well and i wasnt a fan of Berbatov when he replaced carlos Tevez. i think Berb doesn't fit man u counter-attacking style of play. isn't fast or strong like tevez.

Stevi G was a leader today good leadership and goals. Torres still doesn't look good, but he needs game time, or a two week hoilday. im not sure which one. If torres hangs in their im sure his quality will shine through. quality over form.

Or keep playing dirty, looking for pens and freekicks.

Otherwise. paul konchesky isn't strong enough, still believe him to be bottom half players. mental, passing abitly isn't right for liverpool.
Like to see G-Johnson play higher up the pitch in midfield while dirk kuyt is out.
Joe Cole deeper in midfield; he can play the ball into the lines between defenders, let him play deeper with Gerrard and Merieras in midfield controling play

Milan jovanovic, Torres and G johnson attack the spaces. it would work great

I have a feeling poulson might be a good rightback for us, I don't think his passing is up to it in midfield.

I think Merieras, gerrard and cole would tackle great, pass great as a midfield 3.

Poulson Carragher Strktel Konchesky
Merieras Gerrard J-Cole
G-Johnson Torres Jovanovic

That formation would of caused man u trouble.

Maxi Rodriguez is not a premiership player. The Premiership is all about running and working hard in wide positions. Maxi like most european players. likes to have a couple of touches around midfield, and then dift into the box. Which isn't helping the team. He needs to run up wing, get back and defend. he was seemed to be walking around aimless

As much as i hate to say it we looked far better today when Ngog came on to give Nando support and Stevie dropped back to his best position. Ngog is nowhere near the finished article but is improving game by game. We HAVE to be patient the confidence is low but will come with a couple of wins. Nando is getting there and needs support not slagging off. You can see he gets sick of playing upfront on his own. 4 4 2 is definately the team to play and let them worry about us more than we do about them for a change!

19 Sep 2010 20:23:20

Guys no fears yet we have had the hardest start from anyone in the league and will get better. This is the team that MUST be played until January:

Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger Koncheskey

Meireles Poulsen Gerrard
Cole

Torres Kuyt

Subs:
Jones, Skrtel, Aurelio, Lucas, Jovanovic, Babel, N'Gog

In january the following must happen:
OUT:
Charles Itandje - Lille - 1m
Maxi Rodriguez - Valencia - 3m
NEITHER ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR US AND MUST GO - DAVID N'GOG CAN BE ADDED TO THIS LIST IN THE SUMMER

IN:
Matias Fernandez - Sporting Lisbon - 8m
Marko Marin - Werder Bremen - 10m
Eljero Elia - Hamburg - 11m
Miroslav Klose + Daniel Pranjic - B Munich - 8.5m
Total: 37.5m

The takover will be done by this time and this then gives us a very promising team:

Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger Koncheskey

Marin Gerrard Meireles Cole

Torres Elia

Subs:
Jones, Skrtel, Pranjic, Poulsen, Fernandez, Kuyt, Klose

And don't forget our youngsters like Amoo, Kelly, Ayala, Wilson, Shelvey, Eccleston, Pacheco etc being gradually bought into the side

Listening to hodgsons post match interview am convinced he is not the man for us he was talking about at 2 2 hoping to see game out does he not know we aint fulham we are liverpool football club we should be looking to win games no matter where they are played and playing this defensive slow and unattractive style is not going to get us into europe never mined top 4.players who arent performing like johnston poulson jovanovic etc should be dropped and youth who will have pride and a determination to play for our great club should be given a chance i.e pacheco kelly wilson amoo

Empty seats will affect Hicks more than anything else. We the fans make up the club, tired of being raped by that American.

Its time the fans got together and voted with their feet. walk away from Anfield and Hicks will be forced to leave sooner than later.

Its time to walk-away from Anfield.

Its this or letting the American asset strip the club for another 2years and then leave us with nothing but debits ridden, relegation quality squad.

How can people on here honestly rate konchesky, last week against birmingham he was poor not being able to stop one cross coming in from the left. Only for reina to save the shot that resulted in these crosses, this week same s* t different toilet. Nani repeatedly sent in crosses, are we realisticly paying a guy to let in crosses and offer nothing going forward. What a shocking cross when no one was near him, that didn't end up in the box but the crowd. I'd rather start with agger or even give mavinga a chance, but konchesky seriously we paid millions plus young talent for a guy who can't defend. At least insua offered something going forward.

Just wish to agree with the ED - last season against 4 of the 5 teams we have played this season we have the same number of points - 2 take beating wba as beating hull and we are no worse off than last year.
bear in mind that last season we had a settled squad and manager that had worked with the players and had instilled his tactics over years at the club. Roy has had a limited pre-season with the world cup players away longer has changed the systems we play - no more zonal marking thank god-wants to play a different style to rafa but hasn't had the opportunity to work with the team for any length of time yet.he is just starting to get his team tactics and personnel ie merieles, joe cole playing so he can now start making the adjustments in training all week ready for the next game. i for one saw some improvement today from birmingham last week, we kept the ball better(at times) not enough pace and direction at times tho.Merieles looked good joe cole probably tried too hard needs to settle yet, konch did ok but nani was inform today and he can hurt teams when he plays like that - next 3 games he will be sh*te again-we also showed some spirit coming back from 2 down and on another day O'Shea would have been sent off and we would have nicked it
so it is not all doom and gloom - we all knew this wasn't going to be our season for winning the league but lets see where we are at christmas as i think we have had the most difficult start possible this year with the fixtures.
as for the sh*t written in the screws of the world today - its so obvious that this is bull written in the sunday * * can't bring myself to name that paper, on the day of a big game(as predicted by someone on here the other day) trying to unsettle the team and club but most of all the fans - keep the faith try ignore the press and lets see what happens when it happens as there is no point trying to guess - macca whats ian saying about it? - unless you are in the know

Hodgson a poor, poor manager whos got his tongue right up fergies arse! what is this t* t on! ive never ever seen anything like it!anyone whos a friend of that horrible c* t should not be allowed to manage liverpool f*ck off now hodgson you f*ckin cockney bute ive heard helsingborgs are after a new manager! {ed's note - grow up! Kenny Dalglish is good friends with Ferguson too, do you want him driven out of the club?}

19 Sep 2010 19:35:18

All the talk about losing Torres and Reina if Hicks fully takes over is worrying but whilst I can still see takers for Torres, are there any goalkeeping berths available at any top team in europe. Maybe only Arsenal or AC Milan. Liverpool would want £20m+. Arsenal would't pay that and I do't think AC would either. We could end up like the Masch protracted transfer where we get a lot less than we think he is worth - maybe £12m ish. But lets hope he stays because I think he is probably best GK in England, but it probably will depend on new ownership.

Seeing what's happening to our beloved football club is really filling me with rage. It feels like there's a kind of poisonous malaise spreading through every aspect of the establishment from the top down; all the way from the boardroom to the team's performances on the pitch.

One of the reasons Hodgson was brought in at all was his apparent ability to operate effectively under difficult circumstances whether financial or otherwise, but at the moment he doesn't seem able to cope. What I don't understand is that this team is full of quality players - Torres is the best out-and-out striker in the world, Gerrard, as he showed today, can still change the course of games through sheer force of will, Pepe Reina is the best goalkeeper in the premiership, Johnson, whatever the Editor says about him, is a quality attacking right back, Raul Meireles is an excellent player and Jamie Carragher, while a yard off the pace now, had the season of his life in 2008-2009. He can't just have suddenly become a terrible player overnight. Why can't these guys play together anymore?

Our heroic cup final victories in 2005 and 2006 were achieved by frankly mediocre players (Traore, Smicer, Baros, Luis Garcia) playing together as a unit, prepared to leap in front of bullets for each other. That's the Liverpool way, where every player fights for his fellows and for the fans. Somewhere along the line, in the last three or four years, that's been lost.

I want to ask everyone on this forum, including and especially the Editor, to put our heads together and properly examine this problem from every angle. How can we restore Liverpool FC? {ed's note - time and stability is needed. Something that was sadly lacking under Rafa as he was too busy fighting with everyone and buying and selling players like it was going out of fashion. What we need is a settled period, under a calm, collected manager who is prepared to make steady progress rather than looking to do everything over night. Patience and support is needed from the fans too.}

19 Sep 2010 19:07:10

Just wait for the apocalyptic Liverpool stories in the London based newspapers in the coming days- ownership, unhappy players, 'is the manager right for Liverpool' issues and even relegation!
BUT WE MUST STICK TOGETHER.

19 Sep 2010 19:04:51

To that kn* h* * that just said he will boycott liverpool, after going to the game and giving a terrible performance like that, and then praising them for the 2nd performance! you sir, are an idiot.fact! !

Ed what do you think about this lineup after our performance today and against steaua

reina
kelly wilson agger konchesky
gerrard meireles
amoo cole pacheco
suso

Yes maybe for some next season but at the moment Pacheco, Amoo (the most likely as we have no decent wingers! ) and especially Suso are very young and more importantly very lightweight any decent defender will easily push them off the ball. There is no way you can say lets drop Torres against Sunderland and play a 15/ 16 year old instaed! Despite how lack luster Torres looked today he still won the pen and the free kick that got the goals for us.
Pacheco (either upfront or behind a striker) and Amoo (right wing) should be given a starting place againsts Northampton this week and lets see what they can do. As for carragher it hurts to admit but he aint up to it anymore against the best strikers in the prem and europe but to throw Wilson in to replace him could be silly again play Wilson against Northampton and see how he does. but i personaly would like to see Kelly at cenrer back he is tall, strong, and well built for someone so young

Also i as much as everyone is disappointed with our start to the season but look at our first few games and compare them to what we got out of the same fixtures last season (not including West brom) Arsenal (home) 1-1 this season lost 2-1 last. Man Utd (away) lost 3-2 this lost 2-1 Last. Man City away lost 3-0 this drew 0-0 last. Birmingham (away) drew 0-0 this drew 1-1 last. that's 2 points from them 4 games same as last. Bad yes but no worse than last season. . .Also look who we have had to play compared to lets say Chelsea Wigan (away) W.B.A (home) Stoke (home) West Ham (away) Blackpool (home) all games you expect us to win let alone them!
Try and keep them heads up it could be worse!

19 Sep 2010 18:50:42

Before we all jump on the we are SH*T bandwagon, look at the 5 starting games:

Arsenal Home, would have been happy with a point and nearly won

Man City away? Did we expect any points?

West Brom - Home Win, 3 points so what if we didn't win 6-0

Birmingham away, they have not lost at home for donkeys years!

Man U away? Same as Man City?

19 Sep 2010 18:45:47

Well we lost but our 2nd half performance is something positive to take away with us i suppose. we need to be realistic and allow roy time to impose his tactics on the team. also did anyone think torres came to life with another striker alongside him?

19 Sep 2010 18:39:32

The one good outcome from today's defeat is that we look a far better team when we reverted back to a 4-4-2 system, it's time to stop accommodating players on to the starting 11 and play a system that gets the most out of Gerrard in a two man central midfield and Torres with a supporting striker that can take the lead if needed.

Best 11, I think:

Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger Konceski
Kuyt Gerrard Poulson Cole
Torres Ngog

19 Sep 2010 18:39:23

If this is true about the yank tool gaining total control or reportedly. then im not going to watch liverpool again .im a season ticket holder and i go away games also avent missed a european game home or away for last 10 years.ive spent alot of money following he team i love.but this can't go on any longer them two are bleeding us dry and we need them out. BOYCOTT what i say. on a more possitive note just got back from game and i thought the second half we showed something like what we should be playin like.just a few stupid errors cost us big.

{Editor's Note: So you say "boycott" and and you go to the match?}

if that's wot it has to come to then yes id put my ticket away for a game to show pple i was seriuos {ed's note - let's hope it doesn't come to that mate.}

19 Sep 2010 18:34:03

Right we are falling. A whole squad revamp is needed we need this to happen up until jan transfer window:
Reina
Kelly Wilson Agger Konchesky
Spearing Johnsen Gerrard
Cole

Pacheco Torres

Bench- amoo mavinga Babel ngog carra skrtl kuyt jones sterling

Who agrees?would include shelvey in the squad.

19 Sep 2010 18:31:43
Lay off Roy it's not his fault this was down to the players. The line up was about spot on with the exception of maxi, I would av prefered Babel.

Too many big name players not performing Torres, Johnson, Cole and Cara all missing again.

We have not started any premiership game this season until the second half which is a big worry. It's time to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and get back to the basics and start winning ugly again and build on that.

19 Sep 2010 18:24:14

Totally gutted, , , , , never got playing until we were 2 down, Paul Konchensky must be the worst right back in the premiership, I reckon Lucas cud do better

off the pitch fine, but you're already beaten when it happens just before, during and at the end of the match.

No problem with his spelling but ths is an old SAS method to make the lazy american spellers slip up and prove their nationality. .similar when MacDonald(Gordon Jackson- upstairs downstairs or Cowley(professionals)) tries to pass himself off as a German citizen by speaking fluent German to some SS officers. My "English" spelling is OK - my ability to read things after I type them probably not - so a few typos in the posts often. My German is poor though - so I would probably get shot.

I do speak fluent French if that helps me out.

I think that if Hck's made a play for the club on his own, there's a good chance that he would face a 'fit and proper person' test that was introduced after his original takeover. That was as a double act (think Abbot & Costello) so I would assume it would be defined as new ownership. Ed - what do you think? {ed's note - that is a very good point, if he did face it he should fail due to the mess he made of Corinthians and Texas Rangers. But we all know the FA is made up of incompetent old fools and he would probably pass with flying colours and be held up as a shining example to others.}

Ed - I reserve the right to clutch at straws like everyone else. But on a more practical note, what should Liverpool fans do if Hicks succeeds?

{Another Editor's Note: Hicks would have no problems passing a "fit and proper test". Oddly enough, RBS having already effectively gone under would probably not pass any raesonable test. As fans, I suggesting worrying more about the football than the finances.}

Hi ed just want to say how depressing it is to be a liverpool supporter at present. I have just watched the match on espn as i'm in Afghanistan and getting loads of abuse from manure supporters. I just don't think Roy Hodgson is going to cut the mustard. when a new manager comes in it usually gives that team a lift but in our case I just can't see it. Don't get me wrong I like him as a person he speaks well and comes across as a really intelligent guy, but what has he ever won? Alright he done well at fulham but I can think of plenty of managers that have done well at average clubs. He hasn't made any improvements to the team as far as i'm concerned or changed the style of play. The game was crying out for pace down the flanks so why not give Babbel ago. As for the yanks well words can't describe how I feel about those two blood suckers. The club is in quick sand at the minute and it's sinking fast. ED keep up the good work it keeps me and all the rest of the LFC supporters entertained while serving out here.

COME ON THE REDS.

Not rumour more like predictions.
Liverpool to be sold to new owners in November, they will give Roy the season while they find their own man to take charge, if he carries on the way he's been doing in Prem expect him to be sacked earlier, with King Kenny taking temporary charge. H&G will keep hold of Roy regardless for the rest of this season if there is no sale or Hicks takes sole charge. New owners will entice a quality manager with the lure of a nice transfer budget.

19 Sep 2010 17:55:12
It doesn't matter what level of football you play, but once you take a 2-0 lead and find yourself level at 2-2, you start doubting yourself and all the momentum lies with your opponent. I know it, we all know it, but it seems mr. Roy doesnt? We shouldve gone for 3-2, but yet again we went back to playing the same ph?t football that saw us go 2-0 behind! That other poster was right, the manager needs to start showing some balls. Im deeply disapointed, but hey, WE ARE LIVERPOOL! Things will get better.
Red bl00ded!

Hi again, I can't believe hicks wants to buy the club outright it really worries me about the future of lfc and its time for one our greats to go and that's jamie carragher. He's been pure class for the last ten years but there comes a day when you have to call it a day on the plus side thought torres seems to be getting his form back a bit but its a shame it took him 45 minutes today but I can't recall the scum keeper making a save, I can't wait till the 6th of october if hicks stay in charge I even going to cancel my sky! Ed what's your call on the game today and what did you think of konchesky I thought he was poo today.

{Editor's Note: Skrtel, Konchesky, Torres all looked poor.}

19 Sep 2010 17:43:05

What makes it worse is I see a team like Chelsea that never take their foot off the pedal even when they are 4 nil up. That is the way it should be. Creates fear in teams who have games coming up against them. Even teams in the bottom half play us thinking they might sneak a win. Under Shanks that would have been treated like a disease. Would you EVER hear Mourinho say "I was happy to settle for a draw" against a team like Birmingham?? Roy is too mid table mentality.

Today was worrying as an LFC supporter.
We lacked any comitemnt or movement untill we went two goals down. I have been a big fan of the way Roy has handled himself off the pitch, but on it, I'm sorry this is Liverpool FC & we expect a certan quality of Football. I'm not calling Roys head, but we might be finding out now why Roy has managed only one other top side after years in game.
Come on Roy this is your time, make it count, lets play some positive Football!

RE:Events have proved that the boycott is stupid. If the club were doing better financially it would be easier to sell. {Editor's comment: How would it? If there was more money in it the selling price would go up, making it more expensive to buy.}

Wrong, but then I suppose you don't have a background in finance so I understand your viewpoint. The issue now certainly isn't the selling price, it is the lack of clear interest from possible buyers. G&H have been unable to stop a sale due to their inability to pay RBS and it was the ideal time to get them out when they could not have prevented the sale. The lack of an enthusiastic, committed buyer is what seems to be taking this to the brink and the boycott may not have made things much worse, but it certainly hasn't helped. It is simply wrong-headed, no matter how much you protest otherwise. {ed's note - actually it is you that is wrong. There is plenty of interest, just not in paying the ridiculous price that is being asked. If there were more money coming into the club then the Americans would have no problems refinancing and paying the loan interest.}

[Sub Editor's Comment. .your supposition that there isn't a background in finance is inaccurate. Obviously we aren't in Banking. However corporate acquisition and disposals experience is part of the reason you see the views expressed here. You make an interesting point. But it's just not logical to think the club would be easier to sell with stronger revenues given the current 'politics', brinkmanship and greed, evident from recent developments.]

ABSOLUTELY ED. IT'S NOT LIKE PACHECO IS A KID. HE NOW LOOKS LIKE A MAN - MORE MUSCULAR AND 'BEEFED UP' RECENTLY. AS I SUGGESTED THE OTHER DAY, DO YOU THINK PERHAPS SAMMY LEE DOES NOT RATE HIM BECAUSE I THINK HE WAS WORTH MORE PLAYING TIME LAST SPRING. {ed's note - I don't think Sammy Lee is involved in the decision making whatsoever to be honest.}

How much does hodgson earn ?

I ll take 1/ 4th of that salary as mine and do a better job than roy and ensure we finish 16th and avoid relegation.
And also 3/ 4th salary saved , so that hicks can pocket it as profit earned from liverpool's downfall.

I shall also act as player cum manager as I think I would do a better job in helping the opposition get into scoring positions than glen johnson. And here I would take 1/ 1000 of glen's salary. Saving 999/ 1000 for hicks's profit. .
Please ed. I know you ve got contacts at liverpool. Please pass me purslow's number. I wish to get appointed before we win vs sunderland

Whoever wrote this doesn't have a clue:

"Johnson was poor in both defence and attack, anyone realise that all the goals we conceded came from crosses? let's ship him out and bring kelly in, who is MUCH better."

What? Johnson was nowhere near the crosses you muppet! 1 goal came from a corner and the other 2 from our left.

"Carra and Skrtel had an average game
Konchesky made good tackles, and offered something going forward, but wasn't fit"

Carra was poor. Konchesky should not be a first choice LB.

"Torres was of the mark today. What is the problem with him? He doesn't want to play for us anymore, and he isn't fit. Let him play in the reserves, until he is FULLY fit."

The problem is he isn't getting the service. If I was a world class striker not getting the service then i too would be frustrated. He isn't fit?? You having a laugh. How many more games does he need. Torres was to blame for the 1st goal, Carra for the 3rd. Torres should have jumped for the ball instead of trying to hold Berbatov. Roy Hodgson is out of his depth.

That is absolutely the funniest comment I've ever seen on this forum :) Johnson clearly(! !) not as good as Kelly. I'd love some of what you're smoking mate but appreciate your point of view. .it's what makes this site worth coming to! Johnson is better on attack than Kelly will ever be and to the extent Kelly sometimes defends better, it is easier to defend more when you're attacking less. Johnson adds an extra dimension to the team. If he doesn't get the support as in this game then he will be in trouble, just as Konchesky was on the other side. {ed's note - attacks better? He gives the ball away time and again or puts in a poor cross which leads to nothing. Johnson offers nothing at all, he leaves us open defensively and provides nothing in the final 3rd. He is a liability and a complete waste of money. At least Kelly can defend and is decent on the ball, that is far more than you can ever say about Johnson. Only blinkered people could ever think Johnson is worth playing, he is a joke.}

JOHNSON IS A GOOD PLAYER BUT HE GETS CAUGHT OUT DEFENSIVELY SO MANY TIMES, A BIT LIKE INSUA ACTUALLY. WE DID NOT NEED HIM WHEN RAFA SIGNED HIM. I BELIEVE KELLY HAS 'BIT OF CARRAGHER' ABOUT HIM, WHEN CARRAGHER FIRST GOT IN THE TEAM 13 YEARS AGO. GIVE SOME PLAYING TIME TO SOME OF YOUNGER PLAYERS - SHELVEY, WILSON, PACHECO, SUSO AND KELLY. WE MIGHT ALL BE SURPRISED.

time to get rid of carra, skrtel and johnson. All huge liabilities in our defence. Younger blood is needed and in comes kelly, agger and wilson. Our flanks are pathetic so let's introduce amoo and pacheco, they're both hungry and pacey, which is what we need now. Torres has been pathetic so let's give suso a try and see how he does {Editor's comment. .Been talking with the Ed in Chief and he has similar concerns about Skittle and Carra. .}

1. Torres is still fighting for fitness.
2. It is all in his head
3. Worried about the long term future of the Carragher/ Skirtl central defence partnership
4. Lets give Amoo, Pachecho, Suso a go. Pacheco now has more experience. When we got to 2 - 2 against the worst Man Utd side I've seen for a long time, we should have kept pushing forward and would have won the match. However, we did what we always do, drop back and try to hold on to the point. It was guaranteed that this would backfire and it did. 10 years and we are still waiting for a Manager who will go out and try to win the game away from home. Hodgson's away record at Fulham doesn't inspire me that he will be any different.

The only consolation is that Freguson is so biased towards United that he doesn't realise how poor they actually are. I have no worries about them getting the 19th title and, as for the Champions League, they will make quarter finals at best. As for us, we can only hope for a conclusion to the buy out saga and maybe Hodgson realsing that fear only creates negativity and ultimately defeat.

Events have proved that the boycott is stupid. If the club were doing better financially it would be easier to sell. {Editor's comment: How would it? If there was more money in it the selling price would go up, making it more expensive to buy.}

Wrong, but then I suppose you don't have a background in finance so I understand your viewpoint. The issue now certainly isn't the selling price, it is the lack of clear interest from possible buyers. G&H have been unable to stop a sale due to their inability to pay RBS and it was the ideal time to get them out when they could not have prevented the sale. The lack of an enthusiastic, committed buyer is what seems to be taking this to the brink and the boycott may not have made things much worse, but it certainly hasn't helped. It is simply wrong-headed, no matter how much you protest otherwise. {ed's note - actually it is you that is wrong. There is plenty of interest, just not in paying the ridiculous price that is being asked. If there were more money coming into the club then the Americans would have no problems refinancing and paying the loan interest.}

19 Sep 2010 16:59:50

{Editor's Note: The poor performance is hardly the fault of Hicks and Gillett. There have been a lot of changes and it will take time for the players to gel. Poulson was never a good buy in my view. Babel is a better option on the left. Agger a better option than Skrtl. Confidence seems to be missing but that will come. Chelsea have had some easy games - but they have confidence in any case. They have only changed one or two players and are blooding the youth which means they should be able to sustain the minimum change approach.}

AGREE ED MOSTLY - THERE SEEMS TO BE TOTAL LACK OF CONFIDENCE, BUT ALSO TOTALLY LETHARGIC. ALMOST LIKE SOME DON'T BELIEVE ANYMORE. SIMILAR TO THE DYING EMBERS OF THE HOULLIER REGIME IN 03/ 04. YET AGAIN GERRARD NEARLY PULLED US THROUGH.

"Torres was of the mark today. What is the problem with him? He doesn't want to play for us anymore, and he isn't fit. Let him play in the reserves, until he is FULLY fit. When he is fit again, whether he wants to play or not, it's all up to him."

Another comment from the same genius. If he wasn't there today the score would have been 3-0. As it was he got us back into the game and poor tactics/ subs from Roy combined with poor defense meant Torres' valuable contribution was for nothing.

19 Sep 2010 16:58:52

Help us please. that was awfull, hodgson hasnt got a clue. top 10 if where lucky, i have never seen a liverpool team play this bad i am worried honestly, we can't just keep blaming the owners the team is rubbish end of, and they didn't put this rubbish together.

"That was what I call "a good defeat" still a bit puzzled why poulsen and not jovanovic played. Reina could not stop any of the goals
Johnson was poor in both defence and attack, anyone realise that all the goals we conceded came from crosses? let's ship him out and bring kelly in, who is MUCH better"

Hmm, yes let me see. .Kelly is on the bench for under-21's and Glen first choice for England, so I gues he obviously is better and every coach can see that. It would help if either of our fullbacks had had proper cover this game which they didn't. And Maxi doesn't combine with Glen anywhere near as well as Kuyt does, but yes, go ahead and blame Glen! {ed's note - Johnson is clearly not as good but a lot older and more experienced and that is why he is ahead of Kelly. It is the same rubbish that has held England back for years, they are never prepared to take a chance on youth unlike Brazil and Germany for instance.}

19 Sep 2010 16:54:16

The fact that the two biggest clubs in England happen to be from the North West is obviously a massive inconvinience to Sky Sports. It was an absolute disgrace that their studio today was at Stamford Bridge and they had their second commentating team (not Tyler and Gray) on duty at Old Trafford.
It just shows Sky would prefer a Premier League where the title is fought out between Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs.
Liverpool and MU are the biggest teams, with the biggest and most successful history, where Sky probably make the majority of their money through subscriptions etc. Sky should remember that! !

After 2days match i think hodgson should make a huge change in dis team.Players like carragher should b on d bench bcos he's old &there notin more he can offer.Young players like kelly should b put in their place! Skrtel, kyrgiakos, maxi &lucas should sold in january bcos we can't move 4ward wit dis kind of players.we nid 2giv spearin pacheco and others chance 2show their talent.In january we nid 2 solid defenders like cahill 3wingers &a striker if torres is not leavin.Y.N.W.A

Absolutley gutted. The best form of Defence is Attack.
Though we defended well in packs Johnson is such a liabilty for a guy whose on £90k p week he has no vision at all and since we played with only 10men at times because of that pathetic Maxi he done absolutely nothing when did you see him attack the wings like Nani?
Gerrard to far back. Did anyone see Roy he does it everyweek with his hand rubbing his forehead I don't think he, s got a clue!
Why was Babel brought on because Jovanic is another worthless Donkey.
Ive supported LFC for over 40years and feel gutted the way these so called master tacticians advise players with their so called knowledge. I teach football to youth and its so obvious where the problems are.
We can't keep blaming the owners to some degree if the players do not play as a team and the management can't get them to play as a team then this team won't get anywhere.
Look at Birmingham etc there not the most talented but fight for each other.

Carra Carra Carra at fault for all goals all came from crosses all scored in his defensive position. Said it for a long time Roy as a major decision to make. He as been a great servant, but is way past his best would not get in any team chasing a top 4 position. {ed's note - both the centre backs are not up to the job, at least one of the goals Skrtel could have cut out the cross but failed and then Carra stood off too far. It is time to drop both in my opinion.}

19 Sep 2010 16:17:20

I was disappointed when we didn't sold torres in the summer he's over rated and he's finished spain won the world cup without him scoring a goal for them, I appreciate all the goals he scored for us but what throphy has he helped us win and im not blaming him for any of the matches that we lost imagine is we had gotten £60m for him maybe we could have aguero and remy

"Many Congratulations to Liverpool for setting a new club record for the Premier League Championship - already out of it after only FIVE matches! It's time to change tactics
Mal 8"

Mal8 and everyone else, we have to put things into perspective here, it has been the hardest start for many years, in only 5 games, we played Arsenal / United and an up and coming strong City team, if you compare our results against the same teams (sub west brom against any of the teams that dropped) last year, its exactly the same points, our goal difference is worse yes, and we do have obvious problems , but we should be fair.
Roy

19 Sep 2010 16:15:19

Hi guys today was bad day but how many times we have, beaten utd. At their home in last few years even with much better performance. I do agree Roy hasn't had good start in league nd youngster like shelvey nd Wilson nd dani P Needs to be played nd remember our season starts now with 2 home PL games nd euro nd carling cup in between nd hopefully on Wednesday we will see young team nd possibly 11 different players. I would give Roy chance till everton match in October. We don't need players such as maxi, skrtel nd even poulsen .

19 Sep 2010 16:09:39

That was what I call "a good defeat" still a bit puzzled why poulsen and not jovanovic played. Reina could not stop any of the goals
Johnson was poor in both defence and attack, anyone realise that all the goals we conceded came from crosses? let's ship him out and bring kelly in, who is MUCH better
Carra and Skrtel had an average game
Konchesky made good tackles, and offered something going forward, but wasn't fit
Poulsen was inconsistent, made good interceptions on one hand, and gave the ball away too much on the other. Not starting XI player
Gerrard was brilliant, and Meireles was encouraging, the only 2 bright spots in our team.
Cole and Maxi were pretty inferior, not like themselves against Steaua
Torres was of the mark today. What is the problem with him? He doesn't want to play for us anymore, and he isn't fit. Let him play in the reserves, until he is FULLY fit. When he is fit again, whether he wants to play or not, it's all up to him.
Howard Webb was terrible. Should have sent off O'Shea. van Marwijk was right, like how Webb should have sent of Puyol in the final.
Nevertheless, we knew it was going to be difficult. Let's walk on through the wind and rain. Though our dream of a top 4 finish may be tossed and blown, let's walk on with hope in our hearts, and we'll never walk alone.

19 Sep 2010 16:07:14

I don't think the performance was that bad, (wasn't good either), we should 've done better at the front , and I can understand Ngog for Maxi, but I would agree with few of the earlier posts, at 2:2 they united were wobbling with 2 of their defence on yellow card, if Bable have come on instead of Jovanovic, he may have caused them problems , Babel is more direct and run at players with ball at his feet, he could 've got one of their players sent off, or maybe another free kick/ pen and things would 've been different.
The one I totally do not understand is why take konchesky off? he had a bad game yes, but you do not touch your defensive line in the last 10 minutes of a game when its at boiling point, was he injured??
I think the players did OK, it was Roy that lost it.
Roy

{editor's note...Liverpool looked better after the first substitution. At 2-2 you would have been happy enough. Berbatov moved more to the right and was causing Konchesky problems. Agger was a good option IMO }

19 Sep 2010 15:58:30
Shelvey should have played instead of poulson, were was maxi today?agger instesd of skirtle, jonson should not be a left back, apart from that at least we came back to make it 2-2 a better secomd half performance.

19 Sep 2010 15:56:51

Reina - Solid
Johnson- Poor
Carragher- Too old. To blame for Berbatov's winner.
Skrtle- Ok. Gave away silly fouls.
Konchesky- Nani made him look silly. Out of his league.

Cole- Good. Got the play moving, ran at players.
Gerrard- Good . Sat too deep for me though.
Poulsen- Poor first half. Looked good last 20 mins.
Meireles- Impressive. Good vision, seems like he's settled in already.
Maxi- Gave nothing to the team. Didn't cross or run at players once.

Torres- Lazy. Looked better second half.

Ngog- Ok. Chased back and tackled, more than Torres.
Agger- N/ A
Jovanovic- Waste of a sub.

Really don't know why Meireles was subbed for Jovanovic. Poor decision in my opinion.

This is only my view, don't slate me.
Your views Ed? How many out of the 14 would you agree with?

{Editor's Note: Skrtel looks poor in my view. For a central defender jumping at crosses is way better than standing still. Meireles is a very good player but seemed to be in headless chicken mode today. Poulson is a liability in my view - I have never liked the player and he will give away free kicks in dangerous positions.}

You Scousers get more delusional every day. The person who thinks the press is making up the story about there being no bidders, no buyers and an urgent refinancing should actually start panicking now. Who in their right mind would by a club with reduced income, no foreseeable turnaround in the quality and performance of the team, and it's best players demotivated? SHARKEY is right, the shareholders can do pretty much what they like when it comes to the Board. Broughton can protest all he likes, but unless RBS holds some control over the owners equity and backs the Board, H&G can pretty much call the shots. Especially if they think the Board is incompetent in failing to find a buyer etc. The reason nobody is going to buy now is because it will take too much money and too long to make a return. Unless they get it on the cheap (As I've said before) through RBS selling the secured equity at par to the debt and then only if the amount of equity gives a new owner control through a Come Along Shareholders Agreement that forces a sale of the remaining stock. It seems like H&G will outmaneuver this by getting their buddies to refinance. MikeG

19 Sep 2010 15:41:51
Hey Kopites! I want to give Roy a chance, but it almost seems as if he knows as much as Rafa did. . I mean, we were back in the game, and he still doesn't give Babel a chance. Babel should have come on at half time instead of Maxi. Maxi, Cole, Miereles did little to nothing IMO. What do you think ED? do you think we have enough of a spine to do something this season? If we get a new owner, I would still like to see someone like O'Neil or Hydink as the coach along with 3-4 "world class" players of which two must be wingers. .

{Editor's Note: It seems to be a matter of confidence and let's not forget who we were playing. Try disassociating the performances with the sale of the club and the owners and maybe people will have a clearer view.}

19 Sep 2010 15:40:52

Defence looks pathetic. I thought Roy would bring in the fulham type of defence here. But not to be .
2 things that liverpool don need.
The owners are using our club badly.
Jamie crappagher is taking us for ransom. Why do you keep a guy like Daniel Agger in the bench to play crapAgger ?
Maxi in a taxi! Ha ha. .

19 Sep 2010 15:40:07
Many Congratulations to Liverpool for setting a new club record for the Premier League Championship - already out of it after only FIVE matches! ! It's time to change tactics - use our strongest (?) team for the Carling Cup, F.A. Cup and Europe League and the younger players in the Premier League (while we are still in it! !). We should at least play Torres on Wednesday to give him the chance to get some goals under his belt although I expect Liverpool to scrape through 1-0. When are we actually going to thrash when of these lesser teams?

19 Sep 2010 15:39:55

Worst start in 18 years, no sign of a takeover, can it get any worse.
hicks has no intention of selling until he gets the price he wants and to be honest why should he.broughton and the board cannot stop hicks from paying the rbs loan with a loan from elsewhere and with nobody willing to pay hicks what he wants for the club he will just sit tight and wait for the bid he fells is right for him not the club.with the way things are we could be in this situation for a couple of years yet as i will be amazed if anybody is willing to pay stupid money for a club that is in a big a mess as we are.to pay hicks what he wants, build a stadium, and make funds available for transfers to compete with chelsea and city you will not get much change from 1 billion and nobody is going to invest that sort of cash in a million years.

19 Sep 2010 15:39:37

First half tactics were appalling. we played too deep in our half. this allowed United to play a high line. 2nd half when we played higher up we were much better. Looked like Roy Hodgson was playing for a draw. Why can't we ever take the game to opponents with the mentality that if they score 1 we'll score 2. We let United settle too early. Roy looks more concerned about his reputation.

19 Sep 2010 15:35:47
Ed, what do you think is goin to happen to us (liverpool) 5 matches 4pt if chelsea win then well be 11pts adrift aleady and hick had not had enough so he wants to reck the club for two more years

{Editor's Note: The poor performance is hardly the fault of Hicks and Gillett. There have been a lot of changes and it will take time for the players to gel. Poulson was never a good buy in my view. After nearly pulling back a comeback we let the scum totally out play us for 5mins & low & behold they get the winner. . when we will learn?! We only had to defend & keep posession & were as nervy as Ricky Hatton after an all night session.

We had our chance to get a point at least & we blew it & Im afraid the players can blame no one but themselves.

Played 5 - 10 points behind Chelsea - It 's already time to bring in Kelly, Pacheco, Shelvey and Wilson on a fairly regular basis. I t just gets worse and worse. .

The Irish Rover responded to the Editor at 19 Sep 2010 12:08:05"

"Now its my understanding that the t* t hicks. Wants to refinance so he can pay off the rbs debt. As they can't pay back the 100mil in october. What self respecting company is going to lend money to a man that needs it to pay of a debt that he can't meet the repayments of.

{Editor's Note: How can you possibly determine that he cannot make the repayments?}

Has he made any repayments yet? Surely if that was the case the debt would be getting smaller each year, not larger!"

The debt was reduced considerably last year after the owners made a payment. Interest payments were also made. What was not completed was an agreement to sell the club by June 30.

The Irish Rover discussed a boycott of the club at 19 Sep 2010 12:16:12:

"In the short/ medium term it will damage our club. In the long term Hicks will be gone! You must remember Hicks is only there because he knows there's value in it for him. If he gets refinancing then we don't get a new stadium or money for players plus Gerrard, Torres & Reina possibly are more than likely to leave. Does this not damage our club? Surely we can't just sit on our hands & do nothing!"

In the long term Hicks and Gillett will be gone – they may be gone in the medium term. A boycott of the club will make it much more difficult to sell – this could well result in Hicks and Gillett owning the club for longer in any case. I am pretty sure that is not what you want.

"Saying all that, I think the papers are up to their usual scare mongering tricks again. I hope I'm right."

The easy resolution is not to read the papers.

Utd, away.

Manchester United will face Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League at Old Trafford in what is arguably the biggest clash in top flight English football. There will be extra spice to this encounter with the Reds coming into the game under new manager Roy Hodgson who will be getting his first taste of the intense rivalry between the two clubs up close despite his vast experience in the game.

Now its my understanding that the t* t hicks. Wants to refinance so he can pay off the rbs debt. As they can't pay back the 100mil in october. What self respecting company is going to lend money to a man that needs it to pay of a debt that he can't meet the repayments of.

{Editor's Note: How can you possibly determine that he cannot make the repayments?}

The board has categorically told Hicks he has no chance of re financing the debt and maintaining control of the club.
The board led by Martin Broughton is hell bent to deliver new ownership to Liverpool as soon as possible.
They will not sell the club to just anyone (hence why Huang was not given control).
One thing is for sure, Hicks and Gillett are history, they have done their utmost to destroy us but they have not and will not prevail.

Mr Sharkey. .
Are you an american? just wondering. . spell flavour?
SMF

{Editor's Note: Sharkey is American - I had not spotted anything in his spelling though.}

One of them says to him, "Good luck." In English. The escapee replies, "Thank you." Also in English. GREAT ESCAPE. only Gordon didn't escape. he got shot. SMF

Don't panic the speculation around hicks refinancing the debt is more press speculation, one week we are linked with takeovers from the middle east china shady arms dealers the next week it's hicks refinancing it's just pure press speculation cos know one outside a certain few know what is actually happening. Between now and the 6th we will here more bull on a daily basis am afraid we will av to get used to that. And out of all this remember the press in recent years have come accustomed to slagging off the reds it's as though they have a vendetta as to watching our great club been ripped apart whilst they sit back and publish bulls* t after bulls* t to sell papers.

Don't panic fellow reds

EXACTLY! THIS IS BECAUSE ITS LIVERPOOL. THE MORE DESPERATE THE SITUATION APPEARS IT SELLS PAPERS. IT'S LIVERPOOL.

Man Utd v Liverpool (Saturday 12.45pm)

if Liverpool don't win, it's over for another year and – might be of interest is to see which team blinks first. Even though Liverpool need three points, they only really know one way to play away from home, and even if they do win tomorrow it's unlikely that they'll change the fact that their only winning margin at Old Trafford since 1990 has been 1-0.

Isn't it strange how the Manc-loving media, especially the NOTW, have piled on this takeover crap just hours before the Manure game? This "scoop" has been common-knowledge Stateside for a couple of weeks now and is garnering the reaction it was designed for by the Hicks mob. As D-Day approaches we should expect a lot more of this type of story and, in my opinion, we are looking at a fat Texan walrus floundering against the rocks who is trying to convey the impression that he's a legitimate competitor for ownership. His reputation as a financial risk is probably a tad low globally at the moment and I would suggest all of this is a last-minute attempt to skulk away with a few dollars profit. I also have a feeling that Gillett is engineering a lot of the crap in his own weasley way and, to state the obvious, we desperately need these two cnuts to saddle up and fcuk off pronto! Like many poor souls throughout history, we are at the mercy of the Banks and we need the RBS to act honourably for a change.
Whatever happens, however this saga pans out, a lot of people will have been exposed for the corrupt, greedy, self-serving fu%^ers they really are.
I blame the Liverpool fans for making this Club the most special and investable Club on the planet. We attracted all sorts of opportunists when Moores announced he was seeking investors and the greedy thick twot kick-started this crap. Even the Yanks played on our passion etc to feed us all the right soundbites from the start. We should remember that almost every syllable uttered by Stadtler and Waldorf has been untrue before we react to the media crap doing the rounds at the moment. I'm not saying Hicks isn't trying to take 100% control. . . .in fact I'm sure he is, but his reputation is pretty low at the moment and I'd prefer to think he'll fail to buy off the RBS loan. The ED seems to think that this won't neccessarily be a bad thing and that this is just serving to buy time to sell up but I believe that if this happens the greedy fcuk won't acheive the amount of profit he's hanging on for. Especially given that he'll asset-strip down to the bare-bones. Who'll pay 600m for a Club struggling to sell tickets for the Leeds Utd game. Whether it be a last-minute buyer of integrity or an AK-47 these jokers need to be disposed of NOW!

Hello Chaps,
Some may remember my posts on the sale of the club from a month or 2 ago. Anyway, here's an update of what has been happening.
Kenny Huang left the sale process once it became clear that Tom Hicks wanted an unrealistic 300 million sterling for his share of the club. When Martin Broughton was first questioned about the sale process he stated it would be desirable for the sale to be concluded before the end of August; that there was no set price and the owners could not stop the sale process. These 3 pieces of information, put out by the man in charge of the sale process, proved to be misleading which resulted in Huang pulling the plug on negotiations.
Since pulling out, Huang has been sitting tight waiting for the RBS deadline to pass which is 11th October, NOT the 6th as is being reported. If Tom Hicks does get refinancing and pay off George Gillett's debt before 11th October then the board personel will change dramatically and all bets are off.
Kenny Huang has one more option, but it relies on George Gillett refusing to sell to Tom Hicks. I believe Gillett would sell to Hicks but he wants assurances about investment in the squad and infrastructure of the club which will not be forthcoming.
If Gillett defaults on his loan then his shares will effectively be transferred to the loan company. Huang is waiting for this outcome and will immediately offer an excellent price to the loan company for Gillett's shareholding.
This would give Huang equal shareholding with Tom Hicks and would allow Huang to prevent Hicks from further refinancing deals effectively forcing Hicks out as he can't afford not to refinance.

There are other parties reportedly interested in the fate of Gillett's shares, we just have to hope that Hicks doesn't persuade Gillett to sell to him. Personally, I think it's 50:50 at the moment.

EH

Personal realtionshiops for refinancing with Blackstone will not come into this unless Hick's mate wants to go to prison. As a Director of Blackstone he would face criminal charges if seen to do a deal his investors/ shareholders thought was dodgey! Would you give Hicks any money. .I think not!

Well me missus is still banging on (literally) since yesterday about wanting to be riding the road with Jonjo Shelvey (dirty cow!) but she also asked if we were gonna win today.
Now in between mouthfuls, I told her that Manure are goin to be puting up a real fight but I thought we would nick it 2-1 now.
Looks like me and Jonjo are both a promise if we do that!

"Macca, who are you?"

Macca is the one who has been telling everybody for weeks that the sale is nearly complete. He apparently gets his information from Ian Ayres - Liverpool director.

It seems that nothing he has said has come true at all.

Deke Reefer

Macca?. . He's the devil. . And these Deke "long drag on his" Reefer is but one of his minions sent to clarify his lies!
Moha ha there HERE. .

. opps. wrong site. I'm mean. .

"today i was in the local park when i saw one of those rank smelly. well you know. . tramp people. Strangely enough i felt GREAT Karma as we exchanged words, pleasantries and a pack. well ok. a BOX of *cheese n onion*. .
Well maybe i'd not eaten enough that day or something! but i hadn't eaten like that since a child. after 3 packs i could see Lineker's fake smile after 7 packs i was well gone. . and this strange little man jumped up all like a cross between the late great george Best and well. . an imp. .

This funny little man explained how he'd been not barred, But stoned from his pub 3 months ago banded a pest with his *fox in the box* one liners where he promptly fell apon any female patrons in a swirl of ale and *cheese n onion*!
He explained how he felt "Gutted" As not only had he lodgings back there. . table in the back yard. . but more importantly his supply of golden gravy dust. . that gave him great soccer skills. Had dried now dried up!
he explained that he used to play for that pub fottie team where upon he had a financial arrangement the locals all threw money into a charity pot thing for his ale in golden gravy dust . . mmm. . cheese n onion. . (sorry but i was quiet far gone at this point)
That season he said he'd been the "parks league"'s top assist maker. . a right fox in the box. .
He assisted in ALL the 68 penalty goals scored out off the 213 taken. . all fouls against him. . he said one ref once said to him "f*ck me mate at first i thought you were taking the piss falling over all the time drunk in the box. . But then thought no-one could be playing that drunk so someone must of been fouling you. shame i couldn't see you play you must be some player. .and anyway all i can smell is cheese n. ."

He then surprised me as he went on to explain how he'd been approached on the last day of last month by two grinning. . well he said "fat amercians" both 'eating a packet! he said the smell was so inviting. they said he would be their summer *Marquee signing" (although he said they pronounced it *free*)
they said he could live in the canteen! and with all the money generating from shirt sales alone he could be in change of the canteen order forms. . his own personal cheese n onion heaven!
He said they roared loudly to each other as they said that he was the "people's signing"(well if you read this site) Also later they asked him if he knew Fernando Torres. . to which he replied "no" and they then looked at each other roaring louder still saying "well he thinks he knows you. .lol. your the reason he's staying!

He stated he "seriously considered it" while slumped upon the curb! But the experience had "just strengthened his will and desire to break back into the first team over the back wall" and anyway as he put it. . "better the devil i know. for at least there not flogging everything right out the back door down pub, right in front of paying customers". . . But he did also say though that he's is in court this coming Friday for sentencing! they are trying to get him on as "Asbo" from not only the pub but the whole village! as a notorious pest.
and if in fact if this comes to past, he may well be interested in a move to a park in Liverpool in the next transfer season! He also said though that he might just go to the job centre as there was far more chance of success there!. . then took his shoe off and proceeded to vomit in it(not sure what he was trying to communicate at this point)
. .
anyway. Heads up lads!
smile. your not all being taken for mugs. there not slowly selling of our great club right in front of our eyes while we chase fairy story of a financial future . . and look on the bight side. we may even get this AGUER. or something he said his name was. . in febuarary!

My thoughts too. Hick's friendship with G.W.Bush seems to have paid dividends. I am not surprised that he has raised the funds. A lot of people on here still don't realise the repercussions of this. LFC will suffer both on and off the pitch. The rest of the board (the anti-G&H members) will be fired. Key players WILL leave. Top 4 will be a dream for many years to come. Moores n Parry r a pair of w@* * s.

If this 2 year deal with Hicks is true. then our club is damaged for years to come.

What should the fans do get Hicks out. Im willing to listen, if people out their have a strategery.

RBS won't help anyone apart from themselves, like all greedy bankers,

The management don't care about the club, this just leaves the internet and gloable fan base.

Its time figure some globle strategy, put our money where our mouths are.

Why can't the fans pay hicks off with bit of profit, and take on the club + loan ourselves, No suger daddy is going to save us.

Im sure Hicks just intrested in money, has no love for the club, Lets buy him out.

Cant that Guy in Liverpool force him out, the same guy who got Garrard to stay at the club. the Gangster that threated to end Garrards career if he went to chelsea.Chill put pal,
Its not even absolutely Fact that this is going to happen. So far it is only press talk. And how much rubbish have they written down the years?!
Chill out & support the boys tomorrow - we'll cross that bridge, all of us as LFC fans together if & when it comes to a head. . .it may never even happen!
We'll not go down without a fight. I'm sure of that.
Come on people less negativity please.

"Im replying to something the ed posted earlier. To be honest, how many of us can truly say that if, maybe 10 years from now, liverpool are battling for promotion in the championship, we'll still be supporting our club? To be honest, i think a third of lfc fans will jump ship if something like that happens. In the end it all comes down to supporting the team, no matter what. Why are there hull, blackpool, wigan, sunderland, everton(l0l), mk dons, etc fans in the world? Because they are gonna win bags of trophies? No, because the fans jus want to support their team. So, no matter what our history, id rather support a mid-table, well-run lfc any day. Just think about it, what happens when abramovich and the city dude grow tired of their blue toys?"

They 'll sell it to some one else and get their money back, these people do n't throw money away , if they did they would n't have been the billionaires that they are . .These kind of people know how to run businesses, or can hire the best people in the world to run for them . .
I am no capitalist , but I know an owner with money is much better that none . this bulls* t that rich buyers will not run the club properly is just that bulls* t . . what happen to blackburn is different, I cannot remember the details, but I know they were for a long period in limbo at board level, it was n't about well run, there was no one to run it at all.
