Cheers lads.

19 Sep 2016 21:54:16
Has any1 else seen the video on bbc website were the Swedish team AIK got the pensioners to be mascots for the game. I think it's a great gesture to the loyal fans who have been supporters for such a long time.

Believable10 Unbelievable3

19 Sep 2016 23:49:59
Also like to give a shout for dutch football team RKC Waalwijk who allowed bikini-wearing models to be their mascots for a game this year. A great gesture to a bunch of ladies who are currently struggling to scrape enough money together to afford a full set of clothes.

20 Sep 2016 18:40:38
Is there a video of that as well annie?

19 Sep 2016 21:01:48
Ed, is the expectation of Woodburn to become a first team regular? Or is it more hope?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - hope of becoming a Liverpool first team regular, expectation of him making it as a professional within the Football League level at least.}

19 Sep 2016 22:11:56
He's a fantastic talent for sure. With him being Welsh and the same age as myself, I have friends that have played in the same team as him for Wales U18s and he was the standout player for them. I say was because he seems to be in the U21s now. For a 16 year old that is excellent.

19 Sep 2016 22:13:50
Thanks, assume Ejaria is the same?

{Ed001's Note - yes, we don't have anyone with the expectation of playing a long term role as a first team regular within the youth system right now. However, that does not mean some won't make it.}

20 Sep 2016 07:48:42
Ojo? Or is he already considered 1st team?

{Ed001's Note - he is already in the first team squad mate.}

20 Sep 2016 08:08:37
Thanks Ed. Would I be right in thinking that Ojo, Chirivella and Brannagan are the closest ones to breaking through to one day becoming 1st team regulars?

{Ed001's Note - they are all included in the first team squad, so yes.}

19 Sep 2016 19:47:52
The u23s are 4-0 up v Spurs inside the first half hour.

Klopp has said that Matip has bulked up. He looks skinny to me.

Only looks skinny on TV, mate.

19 Sep 2016 18:42:56
You must remember the calendar deducts 20lbs.

Oh wait 😀.

19 Sep 2016 15:00:10
Alright Lads,

Chelsea fan in peace, bit late to the party but want to say well done on Friday's result completely deserved, was wondering whether you guys genuinely believe you will finish under Klopp this year as apart from Burnley been really impressed with you this year.

Believable14 Unbelievable6

19 Sep 2016 15:08:28
Hi Joe, welcome and thanks for your comments.

Personally, I have always believed we will finish top 4. I don't think we're going to be a million miles away from the top. I know Citeh have started really well, but let's see how they cope once the CL kicks off.

I'm enjoying Jose's travails at Utd!

19 Sep 2016 15:17:44
Bit of a useless response but to be honest i don't think liverpool fans are thinking like that this year, we're just taking it one game at a time and enjoying the football as it comes. The only expectation is that we give it our best every game, which we have done so far, and do everything in our power not to lose. I'd like to see us challenge but what will be will be, the league is wide open.

19 Sep 2016 15:46:28
My personal take is ask me again after we have played Hull, Swansea and Man U.

If we can demonstrate winning the games we're supposed to be winning and winning against the one team I truly dislike then maybe I'll allow myself to think about being top 4 contenders.

19 Sep 2016 16:45:06
Like the post says above take one game at a time it's too early to think of winning the league if we can show we can turn up to the lower sides and put in performances like we did against the London sides i don't see why we can't dream of the big one but after the disappointing season where we bottled it I tend to stay away from dreaming big top four is achievable we just need to be consistent.

19 Sep 2016 16:52:45
G1dgo has it about right. I wasn't losing my head when we lost to Burnley, equally I'm not getting carried away by beating Leicester and Chelsea. let's see how consistent we become and whether we can grind out wins when we need them.
What's your take on your own boys Joe?

19 Sep 2016 17:08:37
Between 8th and 13th obviously hoping for better just got a feeling we have peaked too soon.

19 Sep 2016 18:07:47
That's optimistic negativeredwalter. How about between 9th and 14th. Jeez.

19 Sep 2016 18:13:28
Are your seriously a Liverpool fan 8th to 13th I'd love to know what 12 teams are better than us.

19 Sep 2016 19:40:05
Cleggy I had both manc teams arsenal Chelsea Leicester spurs stoke westham a and everton to all finnish higher than us. I must just point out that just because I have us around 8th I think the points tally will be very close.

19 Sep 2016 19:47:13
Dont bite gang.

19 Sep 2016 19:54:05
Walters a manc.

19 Sep 2016 20:01:31
Champions by April 😎.

19 Sep 2016 20:08:59
G1dgo and Wooly are spot on. Just taking it one game at a time and giving our all in EVERY game we play and thank heavens, Klopp doesn`t take games likely hence, he tries to win every game he coaches. if we show the same determination and hard work in every game we play and let the chips fall where they may, come season`s end. No need talking about title or top 4 because at this stage, it`s pointless.

19 Sep 2016 23:54:13
I think we will finish above Chelsea.

20 Sep 2016 08:27:38
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. The league is a "marathon" and only time will tell if we're genuine top 4 contenders. All the signs look positive but let's take it 1 game @ a time gents. I think we have a very impressive squad this year with quality in most positions which augurs well. YNWA.

20 Sep 2016 12:26:39
I think Klopp has proven he can set the team up well enough to take a few points off the top sides so the key will be how consistent we are against 'weaker' sides that sit back and hit on the break. Traditionally that's been our problem as we had a soft underbelly and struggled without any width in Attack.

I sincerely believe Klopp has gotten at least 50% of the way to solving this with Karius, Matip and dropping Hendo deeper on Defence and adding Mane in Attack but let's see how they get on, still very early days. Gut feel is without any European competition we will have a good shot at top4 but depends on how Competition does. many challengers with City, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham all dangerous.

19 Sep 2016 14:45:10
Fingers crossed karius plays Tommorow. I still don't know how good he is but he surely has to be an improvement on mignolet. We need a. solid goalkeeper this season to compete.

Believable14 Unbelievable12

19 Sep 2016 17:43:20
If be surprised if he didn't play, looking forward to seeing him in a competitive game. If he turns out to be anything like the Matip signing then we could be laughing :)

19 Sep 2016 13:45:35
Hi Ed,
From some of your earlier comments, you seem to be pretty impressed (or at least satisfied) with Milners performances so far at left back. Presumably, we will look to get a natural left back in at some point - would you see Milner as being a better future option at right back than Clyne? Would he be better than Flanagan? Or do you think the club would eventually look to move him on?

Believable0 Unbelievable9

{Ed001's Note - possibly he could be a better option than Clyne, but it depends on how happy Milner is playing there. I would take Flanno all day and every day in that position though. Sadly I do think the club will sell Flanno, though I would like to keep him.}

19 Sep 2016 14:22:45
Edd001 shouldn't milner be happy to play anywere in a good team under klopp earning what he's earning? Milner seems the tap of lad were he will play anywere. He has a great attitude.

{Ed001's Note - well he is not happy playing left back mate, he will put up with it in the short term, with the hope he will grow to enjoy it, but he might never grow to like it.}

19 Sep 2016 15:23:10
Haven't posted in a long time and had to make a new account as I forgot my login, but I can understand how Milner feels. IN my younger days I always was made to play keeper, not to brag, but I was quite decent at it. But I did not really enjoy it, comes with too much stress. I can understand not being thrilled about a position, but at the same time if Liverpool asked I would play anywhere they wanted.

19 Sep 2016 15:46:00
I'm a natural left footer though pretty comfortable with both. Every time I ever signed for a new club the managers eyes would light up at having a left footer and stick me on the wing or LB when I'm a CDM! It is extremely frustrating.

19 Sep 2016 17:32:13
I have to say I've been very impressed with Jimmy at left back. Fair play to the lad, happy with being there or not, it doesn't show on the pitch and he has put 100% in every game.

YNWA.

19 Sep 2016 18:49:48
Stuie_boy, was you any good in those positions? and how difficult was it disciplining your head and body to act as lw, lb?

19 Sep 2016 20:40:50
Left footers are a rare-breed. Always have been.

19 Sep 2016 12:05:35
A thought experiment I wondered if the Eds or other posters may like to weigh in on. I've been thinking about formations recently and how they may evolve in the future. The CB partnership is a staple of modern football, normally two tall strong players that play horizontally whose job is to win the ball. This makes perfect sense when playing against two strikers but it could be considered that the second CB is under utilised when playing against a lone striker.

My idea would be to lose the second CB and give him the role of dedicated defensive midfielder man-marking the midfield runner or the opposing no.10. This role is effectively a sweeper who plays in front of defence instead of behind it (think 3-1-3-3 or 3-1-4-2), I'd imagine the key skills needed would be mobility, stamina and awareness. The key advantage of this system would be to give a player advantage in midfield and if you can win the midfield battle you go a long way to winning the game. The disadvantage is a narrow defence with no redundancy, if one defender is beaten then the opposition attack will have an overload.

What do people think, could a loan CB with a floating defender in front of him work?

Believable1 Unbelievable19

19 Sep 2016 12:49:26
I would think more having the one CB as the ball winner and the other acting as cover that's how I feel hypia and henchoz worked. Now you need one defender with the ability to play the ball out/ carry ball into midfield if the space is available. if the full back gets caught on a quick counter attack you've got hardly any cover at back if you play one dedicated CB.

19 Sep 2016 12:55:38
A long ball over the top with a striker playing on the line CB's shoulder and he'd be in a one on one situation. Any team that played that way would be murdered.

19 Sep 2016 14:05:03
I have always anticipated the day where centre backs become more like midfielders by playing a very high line, and being better on the ball than they are defensively.

Most centre backs nowadays are already auxiliary full backs, so that they can cover the forward runs of their wing backs!

It will be interesting to see how the game changes over the next decade, though I don't think it is easy to predict how it will change.

19 Sep 2016 14:13:21
Diablo, In such a system the fullbacks would have to be pure defenders to ensure they're not caught out up field, their attacking responsibilities would be taken by the extra player in midfield or attack.

Swish, a ball over the top leaves a one on one with the keeper whether you've got one CB or two so I don't think that's the problem. The danger is that it's a one on one defensive system with no cover if a defender loses his individual battle. The advantage it should bring though is that the opposition will be squeezed in midfield restricting their ability to provide their attack with decent balls. If they can be reduced to doing nothing but long balls over the top then that's pretty easy to deal with.

{Ed001's Note - you are just talking about going back to the old days, the WM etc, when it was 3 defenders.}

19 Sep 2016 14:21:48
how about a 1-4-4-1 with a sweeper playing behind the CBs? i know alonso was always interested in playing in that position.

19 Sep 2016 15:08:15
Well, they do say trends are cyclical Ed.

19 Sep 2016 15:31:15
M k scouser, I see what you mean, I did mean it to say that in today's age of attacking fullbacks losing that 2nd proper CB would reduce cover even more. You have to have the tools to defend against the main counter attacks, ball over the top, through the middle, quick ball to a quick winger, quick passing up pitch or the high pressure klopp favoured, which can make the other four listed hard to defend against, as we've found out plenty of times.

19 Sep 2016 18:46:44
Isnt that just a 3-4-3 with a dedicated dm who can drop back into defence if needed?

19 Sep 2016 20:11:16
Sorry, I think I replied to mk scouser comment, when it should have been muscat red, interesting topic though, getting differing views. Better than the stuff that can be seen on here sometimes after a loss, or the complaints about players, justified or not.

19 Sep 2016 20:33:05
Cheers Diablo, I hoped it may interest some.

20 Sep 2016 01:54:27
different game eds with the back 3 because they wer mostly flat the modern game i feel is when your 2 CBs are told they have to defend not call in a LB or RB to do their job the onus is on the DF to be disciplined to be in front instigating the play and filling in when needed. the other 2 mids take a higher line with the LB and RB and so allows the wingers to engage with the fullbacks and a striker engaging the 2 CBs of course your goalie will have to play a higher line too which is why all goalkeepers are trained as defenders as well as goalies. teams are under pressure to play from the back so have to go long and your goalie should snuff that danger out. but i'd rather live on the chance of closing having more possession than losing the odd goal to a long ball. the only thing i can see wrong with some teams playing today is they don't get the ball in the box enough from wide areas because that's fundamental to the system.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but you are talking a load of nonsense, like an FA coaching manual. This is gibberish, no one even plays wingers any more. Sadly.}

19 Sep 2016 10:48:39
Hi eds and reds hope you are all well.
Bit of an odd question today but was just wondering what you thought of now a day commentators? Because I don't half miss listening to Andy grays commentary and recently Martin Tyler's commentary has really started to annoy me considering some of the great goals we have scored coutinhos free kick, manes first goal and hendersons worldie etc. He just seems so uninthsuastic when we score or win yet I remember when martial scored his first goal against us he went absolutely wild. Don't know whether it's just me but I'm just not a fan of any current commentators right now and would like other people's opinions on this.
Hope you all have a great day guys.

Believable11 Unbelievable7

19 Sep 2016 11:13:56
Totally agree, Martin Tyler is so anti Liverpool it drives me mad, always has something negative to say about Liverpool.

19 Sep 2016 11:21:33
Pearce is cracking. It's like watching an entertaining version of robot wars!

Agreed though. I miss Andy Gray.

19 Sep 2016 11:40:28
BT Sport could not have gotten it any worse. Michael Owen and Robble Savage are worse than awful.

19 Sep 2016 13:00:56
Got to rate Garry Neville for how unbiased he is when talking about city and us. Fair play to him.

Agreed Andy grey was awsome.

Bt sport is poor across the whole roster.

19 Sep 2016 13:29:17
Ian Darke and Peter Drury are good commentators, but they get put with dross like Robbie Savage.

19 Sep 2016 13:35:11
Glad it's not only me who Thinks tyler is negative! Winds me up so much! And I agree guys Neville is decent to be fair and Owen and the rest of bt are awful.
Bt should definitely try get gray on board would love to hear him commentate again. Shame he cocked up at sky.

{Ed001's Note - Gray earns a fortune for BeIn Sports in Qatar along with his hairy misogynistic partner.}

19 Sep 2016 13:44:53
I always loved both Barry Davies and Brian Moore. In fact, I keep going on you tube to find commentaries from the late 80s just to hear the excitement in Brian Moore's voice - he was even excited when reading out the team line ups. Always remember Brian for his line 'and its in there! '. think of your own scenarios for when this might apply.

19 Sep 2016 14:12:27
Bring back Motty.

19 Sep 2016 14:46:30
Tyler and Grey are both vile. And rubbish commentators. Owen and Savage? Quite how BT managed to put together quite such an inept team is a miracle in itself. Hoddle as sumeriser always sounds like he's in mourning at a funeral. For me the MOTD team are ok, and Neville is excellent. Hated him as a player, but hats off to him, he is very good on tv. Carra shouldn't go without a mention, he has really grown into his role.

19 Sep 2016 15:16:39
I find owens voice so boring. Was thinking about doing a tape to help me get to sleep. It's a complete borefest.

19 Sep 2016 15:17:15
I actually would prefer no commentators.

I look forward to when BT or Sky offer a feature of turning off commentators but not the stadium sound. If I can't be at the ground then the next best thing for me is to hear it through my tele with my mates at home, I don't want to have to listen to poor and unnecessary commentary.

As if commentators add any real value to the watching experience now anyway. All our TVs are good enough to see what's going on and their football knowledge is pretty basic anyway, they're not saying anything that adds any value to the viewing experience.

Make them optional I say.

{Ed001's Note - agreed.}

19 Sep 2016 16:10:14
Was about to post an identical post to puzzled then.
Can't stand commentary it's so boring, it's all so and so passed to so and so, now so and so has the ball. Yeah I know that I have eyes. Lol
Sorry but Jonathan Pearce is the worst for me, his voice goes right through me.

19 Sep 2016 17:12:17
The only thing worse than the dross commentating these days is the constant replays. BT sport are the worst for it - they feel the need to show a corner 3 times, so more often than not you end up missing a decent passage of play.

19 Sep 2016 17:35:13
I know it's a blast from past but I always enjoyed listening to BARRY DAVIES as a commentator.

The current day mob leave me frustrated
Especally Hoddle. He always says what a player should have done, like he is superior to them.

19 Sep 2016 19:18:06
Good shout puzzled would love to be able to switch off the commentary as you say now a days it is pointless and boring.
Also quite miss the fan zone commentary as well now thinking about it!

19 Sep 2016 20:41:04
Owen Hargreaves ain't too bad seems pretty unbiased when he's on the rest of bt I can't stand.

19 Sep 2016 20:56:14
I like John Champion, Steve Banyard and Peter Drury as commentators, personally. The rest? I`ll pass, thank you.

20 Sep 2016 02:21:02
Andy grey still on BEIN sports guys.

20 Sep 2016 03:13:39
puzzled that post baffles me. i'm a fan and i'm involved in the game at a low level but if you didn't want opininion on the team why are you here, because that's what this site is about and any info or criticism you can get on our team will make us better do u not realise that especially from commmentary unpopular to the fans. i love when commentators criticise liverpool just as much as i do when they adore us for to get better u need difference of opininion and shrewd brutality, it brings out the best in managers and teams.

20 Sep 2016 05:37:25
They all talk far too much nonsense and they have to in order to justify their opinion (and the job itself) . Few if any offer anything resembling either insight, interest or expertise - this goes especially for ex-players: just because they played the game does not mean they can either talk about it or that they properly understand the intricacies of it. I agree with the comment about the MOTD commentators - they're tolerable - but especially with the comment about getting rid of them altogether. I'd also like the half-time analysis to stop in favour of a looped replay of the halfs highlights until the 2nd half begins.

19 Sep 2016 09:15:13
Hi Eds,
What's the view on Juanma? Is he good enough to be drafted in if we had a run of injuries to Milner, Moreno etc?

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - the ones that are currently seen as potentials for the first team are all in the list of the first team squad on the official site mate. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly who is in there and I am on mobile data right now so don't want to check as sites like that eat data with all the pretty pictures and vids.}

19 Sep 2016 09:49:52
You mean like this site Ed ;)

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, I see a blank page when I am editing.}

19 Sep 2016 13:27:06
So do most users by the looks of things Ed, or you wouldn't have to repeat yourselves quite so much!

{Ed001's Note - hahaha good point.}

19 Sep 2016 14:31:01
Ha ha brilliant rugby!

19 Sep 2016 09:01:04
Just looked at training photos on LFC website great to see all players and staff enjoying training, this shows great team spirit and is a great sign for the season ahead roll on Derby game.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

19 Sep 2016 10:23:22
Just cause they smiled for the cameras? True team spirit is found when you are a goal or two down and you come back to level or even win.
I remember CR7 saying once he doesn't have to be friends with his team mates to play with them and i agree. But the difference between MSN and BBC maybe that friendship.

19 Sep 2016 12:15:18
Is that not the whole "galactico" problem though. A bunch of very talented individuals trying to make sure they look better than their team mates, often to the detriment to the team.

I know its not strictly linked to the original question but I am not sure in recent times I have seen a trio of talented footballers work better together than MSN. it is not just the goals they score but the assists they give each other. How many of those goals are in and around the six yard box thatthey lay on a plate to each other. Its exceptional.

19 Sep 2016 06:45:48
The Hull and Swansea games are not the most important games and i'm very tensed for them.

But i'm sure Klopp is too and he's probably working out how to beat teams who will not attack.

6 points a must from these games!

We also need a clean sheet or two sson.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - the next game is the most important always.}

19 Sep 2016 10:56:16
Some of the teams in front of us are about to play each other in the next couple games. This is where we have to take advantage, beating the teams we have will mean nothing if we cock it up against hull.

19 Sep 2016 12:53:25
no disrespect to the teams involved but I would be very disappointed if we don't beat derby, hull and Swansea, its no good getting capital gains if we don't beat hull, its going to be a very competitive league again this year and we cannot afford any mistakes, we need to treat hull like we treated Leicester.

19 Sep 2016 20:57:55
As Ed said, the most important game is the next one hence, Derby. that is where the focus needs to be and nowhere else.

19 Sep 2016 03:32:59
Hey Eds n Reds. i wouldn't mind Ed001 thoughts on Pep Lijnders. i know he is very highly rated as a young coach. i think he is 1 of the only coaches that the club were adament he stay around after the appointment of Klopp. i'm just wondering after the new long contract for Klopp, will this be a possible apprenticship for Pep, which at Klopps contract end transitions into head coach.? Or is it more likely going to be a deterant for him and likely move on.? I like the idea although i'm not sure whether it happens too often.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - he is defo seen as a future head coach, though I personally expect him to get his chance elsewhere. The club (and other clubs he has worked at) expect him to move up through the ranks until he takes over somewhere. With Klopp tending to stay a while, I just can't see him being content to wait that long.}
