If it weren't for my 18 cans o' ale I would be positively furious with that performance today.

Really Really annoyed at the result today but I am not going to slate the whole team and the manager.

Alberto is 21 years old, a player for the future and he has been in England for around 4 months and had next too no first team game time, why do you expect him to be a world beater?

Ilori - He hasn't even played and he is being written off, classy lads keep it up.

Sterling - still only young but because of the amount of times he has been in the news for the wrong reasons I can understand why people are annoyed

Joe allen - fair enough

Borini - two major injuries in one year, never had a run of games, again what do you expect from a 22 year old

Cissokho - came in to be Enrique back up, a cheap alternative, why would Valencia loan out a left back that is a world beater?

Aspas - Has played 6 games, none of them in his actual position, the only poor game he played was the Swansea game - then he got injured, maybe you could be merciful and give him a season

Coutinho - for the price we paid he has been amazing, people forgetting he is only 21 and has been in england for less than a year - also coming back from injury

Now to defend Rodgers, Skrtel was awful last year, most of us wanted him gone, now I like him but he is nowhere near consistent enough to be a first choice defender - that's why we bought Sakho - a player who is still young and has looked very good in some games and is still adapting to the pace of the league

oh and the reason Suarez looked like he doesn't care is because he doesn't want to be at the club - so he do one as well

Now you call yourselves supporters and fans, well the fact is a lot of you just complain about what the club does, try actually supporting the club. We shouldn't accept poor results but no club are perfect.

Give Rodgers sometime, your forgetting that in the second half of the Kings season we were 17th - not a brilliant foundation - also lost good players like kuyt and maxi.

We have made huge strides in the last year, our 2013 form has been exceptional. We are not going to win every game and we aren't going to spend 100s of millions on players and some of you are going to have to accept that

Rant Over

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I still fancy allen can make it you know. You are correct that we are too abusive towards our players. I think it is alright to criticize a poor performance but to completely slate players as completely useless needs some justification.

None here are against anyone. But common. Loosing to Hull city 3-1, and you still fancy us to find possitive?
Allen didn't played because he doesn't deserve to start.
Sterling and Moses were crying out for games, and got the worst team in the PL to play against and yet dissappointed.
Glenn Johnson with this performance would loose his place in England 11.
On paper we argubly have the best defenders in the PL, yet you conceede alomst 2 goals every game.
Our Midfield has been 0 from quiet a while.
Y did Aspas and Alberto on the bench yesterday?. what was BR thinking?
Do you realize what did the result meant yesterday.
We argubly have another 6 games. 3 away, I would fancy us to loose everyone.3 home games with 9 points, Yet we would be outside top 4.
Imagine What Iof suarez leaves in jan and sturridge still Injured?. Another Transition as Ed021 said the other day?.

It's my first time posting, Made this account at least a month back but just hadn't had time to post. Been following this site for 4 years aswell yardy yardy yarda.

Anyway, LFC had a rubbishter today, sloppy performance, rubbish happens so we shouldn't dwell on it.
My main problem is not about this game since it happens even when we win, and I'm guessing you guys have also noticed it, WE GIVE OUR OPPOSITION SO MUCH SPACE JUST OUTSIDE OUR BOX.
It's shocking how we let the opponents just attack us outside our box while we just sit back and attempt to 'soak' up the pressure. Our midfielders just allow the opponents to pass it left to right around our box and give them so much space to let a shot be hit from 25 yards out. We've been lucky that not many players have had the long shots on target or testing Mignolet since the players who usually shot are not composed. However when the player is decent and composed e.g. Ramsey they can score with all that space given.
You may argue, 'why does it bother you since we barely concede from outside of the box?' well my argument is that we can't test our luck and hope that the opposition players miss a shot.
I'm no tactical professional football manager but I reckon it is fairly easy to stop the opponents from passing around us just outside our area, and that is to make our attackers press on the opposition midfielders while the defence marks up the attacks, we should aim to bring the ball out and set up on a counter attack instead of having 2 attackers that we hoof it to just after we survived a good 40 seconds of pressure.
I Also noticed that when we do decide to put a bit of pressure while the opponents just pass around our box due to all the space we allow them to have, its only lucas attempting to break down the play, I believe that we really should play 4-2-3-1 with to defensive mids covering the defence aswell as putting pressure on the oppositions midfield when we're under pressure, before you say Gerrard is the other player who does that, he doesn't. We really need to sign a proper centre defensive mid who has the engine of henderson but the defensive mind of lucas, we also need him to be a decent passer. I know some of you will think that I take a negative approach on the game much like Rafa's tactics with two defensive mids, but I reckon that is the only way we can actually win the ball back and have more successful counter attacks if we're struggling to dictate the tempo of the game. I reckon in January our main priority should be to buy a DM and a Winger.

Sorry for the long read, if you disagree with my opinion, cool. I just want the best for Liverpool and am not bashing The team in any way.

Thank you, YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with you about the midfielder, coming in but unless Gerrard's position gets changed or dropped I think we will continue to struggle there. I would like to see a powerful player who can pass it as well. Maybe someone with more technical ability than Diame but in that mould.

Following today's performance when do eds and reds feel we need to strengthen, for me it's the midfield. It was clear that it didn't do its job today and needs an aggressive midfield addition in January.

Please BR no more lightweight players who go missing

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Dec 2013 23:12:09
Our first 11 is strong, but when we have injuries ie Sturridge, Coutinho, we struggle. But then, we don't CL which means fewer opportunities for squad rotation. Would decent players want to only play a bit part? I'm not sure

Super

Agree0 Disagree0

If we had the money, and a bit more pull as a club right now I would say go all out for Mata. It's very unrealistic, but that is the type of player, or at least one of the types of player that we need.

This will be an interesting transfer window for us because this is the first time(under FSG) that we have been in a position to stake a claim on a top four position.
There is no use in anyone burying their heads in the sand here, we have had an exemplary start to the season, but it's already looking vulnerable due to a lack of depth in the squad.

I don't think that people should panic and call for Brendan's head, as I think he is genuinely trying to get a team together that will win things. I'm sure he will do that eventually.
What is apparent is our complete lack of threat in the now, which like it or not will be definitive of our season, and seasons to come as football and fans are so transient or fickle.

Realistically we will sign a couple of players in the next window, but do not be surprised if they are not the 'big' signings that we all want.

We are a project at the moment fr the manager and the owners, and that is not a bad thing.
If I could wake up tomorrow and be top of the league I would absolutely love it!
However, we have a long way to go to rebuild a team, a brand, and fans that will stick by the team through thick and thin.
I think we are already there with the fans(for the most part) and everything else should fall into place eventually.

Enjoy the rest of the season as so far(excluding today) it's very exciting and there for the taking.

Disappointing match.
It seemed like I jumped into a time portal to this time last year where where we had possession but no penetration.
When we went forward the man on the ball just looked isolated. It resulted in attempting almost impossible passes and they didn't come off. We didn't threaten enough from open play as we just didn't get anyone into the box and we played at minimum intensity. The beauty of teams like Arsenal, Dortmund, Barcelona and Munich is that they pass it quickly, press high and there always seems to be a supporting player.
I want to hear other peoples views but I really want to see us play with 2 up front. that's right bring back the 4-4-2. What do you think Ed's/ Reds?
Hopefully Aspas can show his worth as a striker.
Moses was poor, after crying to play all week. Sterling wasn't doing enough but I hope he will eventually make the step up.
Suarez just waltzed around moaning at people and seemed to give minimum effort. Henderson, bless him, ran around all game but I needs to begin thinking quicker. Gerrard wasn't great today but took his free kick well. Lucas I thought had to do a lot of cleaning up and I thought was alright.
Johnson was poor, Flanno I though was decent. I was disappointed with Toure today but Skrtel played well from what I seen.
End of the day let's not let this disort a fairly successful few months but hope for a quick recovery. YNWA.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Where does the 4-4-2 leave Coutinho though mate? Need to make the most of him centrally, even more so without Sturridge available. If today doesn't emphasise our need to bring in some additional creative quality going forwards, I don't know what will! In my opinion we don't have enough quality or depth in the wide areas to play a 4-4-2.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Dec 2013 07:52:53
When on earth did we start playing 4-4-2?. Tiki Taka and passing style goes with 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.
To play 4-4-2, you need world beaters on the wings.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Dec 2013 18:42:42
That wasn't one of our better performances, and I am blaming the Manager. who of late as been changing the back 4 every game.We need a settled back 4.He keeps tinkering and I don't Know why he does it.Don't say injuries, because that's not correct. He keeps saying Kenny's squad wasn't good enough, Yet he spends millions and selects a team apart from Mignolet a loan player and a free transfer that played in kenny's last season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

While I agree with not completely understanding the team selection, I'm pretty sure BR in his pre-match speech didn't instruct Suarez to stand around a lot and moan at everyone, tell Johnson to play neither offense or defense, ask Skrtel to very unluckily put two past his own keeper, and just in general tell everyone (bar Henderson and Flanagan) to keep the energy level at a minimum. If I didn't know better I'd think the owners had shipped in a bit of a Thanksgiving turkey feast for the team prior to the game- nearly everyone looked half asleep or just completely unconcerned about much of anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice one RDL. I do think that we always lack something with 3 in midfield and one up top. Hopefully we revert back to a 4-4-2 or some variant of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said, RDL! When we win, the BR haters stay holed up licking their wounds. When we lose instead of offering constructive criticsm and offering suggestions, they vent their frustration on BR by making stupid, overstated comments some because they are blowing off steam, others because they are rooting for BR to fail just to show they were right for not wanting him here. Wel ost, recognize the mistakes and improve in the next game, period. The bogus commentators can can go support the blue noses across town. Pathetic!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not being reactive to an overall poor performance, but the game today did show a lot of things:
- squad is horribly thin and lacking in quality depth
- left and right back positions are not top 4 standard (I like Flanagan but he is not yet a Top 4 team player. Really don't know what to think about Johnson anymore. half the time he mails in his performance)
- midfield lacking attacking flair (and yes I know Coutinho didn't start but there is no other alternative to him currently)
- we have only 2 strikers and with one out and the other nursing a knock we are really limited
- you look at the bench today and nobody in the league would be nervous with anyone coming off the bench
- Sterling can't seem to stand up to the slightest push or shoulder. If he doesn't toughen up he just isn't going to make it. Coutinho who is so slight at least holds his own
- Moses is not the answer. I would expect him to be a one and done

I have no real problem with our central defenders even though they didn't have their best performance today. Overall we have really strong players in that position.

Thoughts?

Today was poor. Very poor. Nothing else to say.

On a positive, it's December and we are in the top 4!

Would we have taken this at the start of the season?

You can't win them all.

Onwards and upwards!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Whilst I'm not meaning to be overly doom and gloom, I do think the table is pulling wool over our eyes at the moment. We are in the top 4 yes, but 2 points from 8th and 3 from 9th, so I don't think it's a useful guage for how well we are doing at present. I think we'll get 6 points from the next two though so fingers crossed the rest of the top half will drop some points and it'll look a bit healthier for us heading into the horrid run of Christmas games

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Dec 2013 19:37:55
Good point. Yes We certainly will not win against spurs, Chelsea and city.

Agree0 Disagree0

@DP, we're also 3 away from second and 1 away from third, so I think there's room for little more optimism, .

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs and Chelsea away are more than winnable games for us. City away a point would be a decent result.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a load of crap, your are so dillusional, we were rubbish AGAIN. No midfield no determination no drive, top four my backside. Some supporters here need to realise we are just a mid table team, the glory years are well gone and won't be back, no money, bad stadium, weak team and mediocre manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree in the sense that it's been a decent enough season, but essentially my point is the table is way too bunched up for us saying "we're in the top 4" to really mean anything, we're pretty much level-pegging with 6/7 other teams, that's all the table really shows us right now

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't get too complacent. We've played 13, 6 of those teams are in the bottom half of the table including bottom 3. We've taken 6 points from a possible 21 from teams in top half including today. It's woeful, we won't be in the top four come the new year mark my words. We haven't played well all season as Rodgers doesn't know what he's doing. Last minute equaliser last week and if not or Mig we could have lost that by 2 or 3. Rodgers brings in 4 defenders and still the most effective partnership is Agger and Skrtle, Enrique twice the player Cissoko is. Alberto, Borini, Aspas, iloris complete waste of money. Sterling gone from prospect to rubbish. Joe Allen lightweight waste of time who can't finish. Cotinhiou needs a minder or he's non effective and we have absolutely no natural width. What is this chump Rodgers doing?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone has just added the best most honest post this site has ever seen. We are not a top team anymore and won't be this season either, it's a shocking shocking midfield. The players brought in as Ozone has said are poor. Please don't spout on about not having enough time, we all play or played sport, if you were/ are good enough it shows straight away. When the big teams get us we are going to get the mother and father of all beatings, if we play like that against City it's will be a cricket score.
Gerrard come in, your time is up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mcgoveb, i totally agree, all we hear
on hear is we'll get three points here
three points there, football is not
played on paper you have to put the
performance's in, i said it last week
and i'll say it again that midfield
is woeful, not 1 ounce of creativity
today, as for the the defence
the grenades came in again, the
slightest pressure and we concede,
people need to wake-up and smell the coffee i am a realist and judging
on what i am seeing that performance was shocking i
haven't seen one performance which
said statement of intent, people
need to cotton on to br before it's
to late.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have arguably a better squad than we had a few years ago, The difference is the system we are playing. Watched the Chelsea game and they had a poor first half, second half they came out all guns blazing. What we are missing is the aggresion and determination to win. 70% posession means nothing most of the posessional play was in our own half passing backwards and side ways, this slows the game up to much giving time for the oppositions defence to reorganise. It seems as though they are saving themselves, but for what we aren't in Europe or the mickey mouse cup, four of the top teams played in Europe this week we had a week off and put on a performance like that, everthing considered worst game of the seaason. Fair play to Hull they deserved there win

Agree0 Disagree0

Bobbinred is right. We need to change our approach and attitude to these games and earn the right to play and compete while the manager has to improve the tactics and players have to step up and be counted. No exscuses next game. Show us desire and effort and we WILL support you.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Mcgoveb, the midfields just not good enough, Gerrards masking the fact his better dys are behind him with the odd Hollywood pass here and there. Hendo offers nothing in he final third and Lucas has been poor all season, he's lost his bite. As a midfield unit we are pedestrian. Berkeley went though us like a hot knife though butter last week and Huddlestone bossed the game fom start to finish. Allen would have been a better option today, at least he my have tried to lose hem own. Our md did the same against Arsenal, sat back and backed off inviting trouble. I honestly can't recall anything creative any of the midfield players did today.

Suarez as the lone striker? What's Rodgers thinking of, especially when there's no natural wingers who offer options down the flank. Suarez needs payers to pass him for link up. He had no options today, neither Sterling or Moses offered him anything.

Rodgers opts for Toure instead of Agger for his physical qualities. We all no Toures not good on he ball, he can't bring it out of defence so instantly Rodgers has contradicted his choice in system of having one man up top as the full backs will need to sit deep in order to take the ball short off Toure. That kept us in our own half, we may as well elected for the 'hoof' up to Suarez, rather than allow Hull to keep us in our own half passing it around meaninglessly. Rodgers is an academic with his systems, he's clueless.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone, why do you keep saying 'we' and 'us'? Are you pretending to be a Liverpool supporter now?

Before I begin, what a league it is this year, the top 8 is so close so far, fantastic and tense every week, although I would trade in some of the excitement for consistency.
I do think it was a little bit of a faux pas to have Suarez on his own against a Hull team who were always going to defend in numbers.
For me Aspas should have started as CF with Suarez and Moses turning it into a 3 up top when we were on the attack. Just think that Suarez's natural roaming means that we lacked a target up top, which Sturridge has offered very well all season. Truly think that Aspas would have ensured we still had that focus up top. You can't fault starting with Toure, he has been sensational all season and if anything Agger should have started ahead of Skrtel, but Skrtel proved that he deserved his place with a fairly solid performance.
We missed a massive opportunity with Tottenham and United drawing, and could have really staked a claim for top 4, but we have to move on and simply congratulate a Hull team that deserved the win.
We may yet avenge our loss today with a good result against Tottenham, having already beaten United.

Once again, what a season, never know who's going to win except Arsenal against the 'lesser teams' who are currently taking points off all the other top teams. Arsenal may not have performed against the top opposition but so far that won't matter, because they are taking points off everyone else while any other contenders drop points against the other lower teams like Cardiff.

Pretty sound sum up there Andy totally agree.

Hats off to Hull. They schooled us, even though they have only championship quality team. This one was obvious from the off. Not sure how we will recover. December may be a tough month

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When teams press us high up, we don't have a plan. Easy to play against now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Deffo mate top four lucky with top eight on that. what's with Johnston yet again not picking up but still picked when fit. Lucas back to old self didn't turn up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas done much more than both Gerrard and Henderson, take the blinkers of and stop slagging off the only midfielder who wasn't horrendous.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems they learnt from the Southampton game

We don't seem to adapt. At one stage we had four men behind the entire hull team. Surely someone must spot this. Two men can join the midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

We keep blaming the players, but they only play within the framework of the managers system. We should have a good enough squad to beat Hull.
Possesion football is ok if you are moving the ball forward quickly. which we don't seem to do, the players look as though they are playing with straight jackets on unable to up the tempo and pressurize defences,
Brendons system can work but it's not good enough to maintain a 4th place

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes your right coop, just as Stoke did last Boxing Day. Can Rodgers not see how you beat these teams or does he think midget tikki takka will save the day.

Agree0 Disagree0

My other half is a rabid Manc and every season she say's to me (with a smug grin on her beautiful face) never mind dear there's always next year! trouble is I'm running out of 'next years' I really thought this was our best chance of finishing top four (and above the mancs) for a long time but we blew it today Sneaky feeling we'll slide now, our first eleven is ok but if we're going to rely on moses and sterling forget it, should have replaced sturridge with aspas and played alberto as no. 10 and kept the same shape.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am done for now. Time to take a break from watching football. 3-1 to Hull. For crying out loud. Arsenal! is leading the league by 7 points and we end up losing 3-1 to Hull. Arsenal FFS! I think I am going to burst a vessel.

hey guys and girls. I don't know if I'm the only one but I was a little displeased by Brendan's team selection today. Correct me if i'm wrong but I feel players like Gerrard, Suarez, Skirtel, Johnson should have been rested, this was also the perfect match to start Alberto or give another youngster a chance as well as Aspas(if fully fit) and what surprised me is that he didn't start with a creative midfielder. It was pretty underwhelming to see the team sheet but I doubt I'm the only one.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hopefully he can get over this weakness in his body, strengthen up and become an LFC legend as he has got undoubted ability and lots more potential to unearth .

Eds think we'll bring a striker in on loan in January or sign proven striker in short 2 yr contract.

Defoe an option in World cup year??

i think sturridge being sidelined for up to 8 weeks. has clearly cost us the champions league spot

its a devastating blow. and typical bad luck for Liverpool. we need 2 strikers in these 8 weeks and suareaz can't play every game back to back or 3 games in 8 days.

who have we got? aspas?. who is so lightweight he can never play upfront alone he's just so average

so there's no other options.

massive badluck

Sturridge out for 6-8 weeks, maybe there is a silver lining to this! As with our lack of strikers then there will be no chance they let Suarez go in January!

Agger coutinho out today to, my word I'm glad were not playing a good team today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Famous last words. I hope you haven't just put a jinx on the team.

But having Toure and Sakho kind of makes Aggers loss much less important. It's the attacking losses we'll feel today (and through out the season if/when they arise again).

Weak team without Coutinho and Sturridge, hard to see Suarez having many chances. Going to be a hard slog to get 3 points today, hope some of the other players can contribute. Time for Moses and Sterling to show there credentials for a regular first team berth?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The line up is poor, we're lucky that were not playing a top team today, saying that it's still gunna be hard to win with this line up! Time for Moses to put his money where his mouth is.

Sturridge out for 6-8 weeks! BIG blow, right when we face crucial fixtures - 4th place credentials going to be well and truly tested this festive period.

everyone's praising Giggs today. The man slept with his sister in law for 8 years. He's no role model, he's a person.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good footballer, not really well thought of outside of Britain. Best goal was when he ran half the length of the pitch with the ball bouncing of both shins and knees as he tried to control it before he somehow hit it into the net. Total schmuk though as you say. Up there with John Terry as the person of footballers with no morals.

Hi Eds and fellow Reds

Ain't life strange! Living in London, I put up with banter from all London team supporters, sometimes nasty but mostly in good fun. Now, of all the teams to choose from there's an Evertonian moved across the road from us and everyday/morning/whenever I see him he gives me 'Everton this, Everton that!' My only retort that really winds him up is that: ' Your whole team is on loan; Lukaku, Barry and Deulofeu. even your manager when he gets the sack'
Come on, boys, please win today. even if it's only to shut my neighbors up!
P.S. One forward that puts in a shift every week and scores regularly and would be a great addition to our front line is. (don't all shout at once) Shane Long! What a cracker of a player to have alongside sturridge and Suarez. and would've been relatively buyable. Come on, boys, three points please.

I have been watching Mkhitaryan for Dortmund this season after he snubbed us, what a cracking player he is - I wish he was in a Red shirt. What are the possibilities of any new players coming in January?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

Him and costa rejected us and are both playing amazingly well pity they didn't come but on the bright side rogers can spot quality players hopefully in January with our form those top players will come

Just wanna give my alma mater a shout for winning the Iron Bowl! War Eagle!

Yes, an american football fan as well as a Liverpool one. THAT finish to the Auburn Alabama game as crazy. Alabama may have recruited the best defense but wihout a kicker, they're nothing! Still go ducks.

Agree0 Disagree0

That was the CRAZIEST finish I`ve ever seen. What a game!

Its not proven because it was still the wrong decision. Its the players that need to take note not the fa and FIFA. Rugby players have a lot more respect for refs. Even if they know the ref is wrong they would still not crowd round mouthing off and telling him to FSG off. Not very often I agree with Chris whenever rugby is mentioned but it would be a huge mistake to introduce it to football.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not true - the ref in this match called the Welsh captain over and told him to stop his players screaming at him. We heard this as the ref's mikes are wired up. Another thing FA could learn. We want to know what the refs are thinking when they give decisions. It is the uncertainty that leads to dissent from players and fans alike.

The worst brawls are on the rugby field.

There is a reason why Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are currently two of the best players in the premier league. That reason is desire, hunger and determination to play every game possible for club and for country. How many players suddenly become injured before internationals? It is players like Sturridge and Gerrard who want to play even when they aren't 100% and that is something they deserve respect for. Don't forget Sturridge hasn't been 100% fit all season and scored 9 vital league goals. His contribution has been a major factor in our current league position? Should he have sat out all season due to not being 100%. No, and the same goes for the internationals. It is a world cup year and he has got the right to want to feature for his country. At the end of the day players get injured, it is a part of football, that is why we have a squad to deal with situations like this. Give the lad a break!
