It's hard to find words, the best player I've seen growing up playing for Liverpool, heart says no this terrible, head says it's for the best, it's for the greater good ynwa stevie

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Cracking player and a great servant of LFC but it's the right move in moving the club forward as a team. It will mean though that we now have no world names to attract others and sponsers. Interesting times I think.

Agree0 Disagree1

I've dreaded this moment for years, I still think it's a stupid decision. I look at Lampard still being a decisive match winner as an impact sub for City.

If I was in charge, I'd have offered him a two year contract and let him finish up where it all started, the right way. He was high on the season stats last year, assists, goals and passes. Yes, we all know he's lost a turn of pace over the years but he's still a player of quality and because the team has done so poor this season and signed players who haven't performed very well to date, I can't help feel this is all a bit knee jerk and reactionary.

Agree5 Disagree2

01 Jan 2015 22:50:09
Eds fellow reds, I'm watching the game on sky .out of all the players BR has bought can anybody name me one quality player .the only one that got some quality is COUTINHO and he only cost £9 million .the rest are crap to average .how many of our squad could make first team of any of top 5 teams in the league .i think none

Believable4 Unbelievable12

I think given playing time Markovich, Moreno, Manquillio, Sakho, Can, Lallana, Origi will be decent players.
Sturridge, Coutinho are pretty decent too.

Aspas, Ilori, Alberto, Balotelli, Lovren, Borini, Lambert are not so great but some didn't settle, some don't fit our system and some are suffering from stepping up to Liverpool.

We have a more than capable squad and Rodgers knows how best to utilize it but for some unknown reason seems to consistently revert back to tactics, formations, lineups, sub's, that disrupt any forward momentum we create.
Gerrard does have an affect obviously, as Rodgers seems unable to leave him out for a run of games. .we have to tools, Rodgers just need to use them efficiently and consistently for a stint.

Agree8 Disagree1

Sturrdige

Agree2 Disagree0

Sorry mate but you can't judge Origi .he never kick a ball, the French league is pants remember la tallic pongelle bruno rubbish they were the best French players . and the worst liverpool ones

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - You should get down to Anfield and burn some effigies of him - let him know what to expect from the world's most fickle fans.}

Hi eds, new to the site looks brilliant.
Is it true that Steven Gerard in talks with LA Galaxy?
Can you also give us some keepers names which you think we might be interested in because migs ad another shocker. Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Read the posts.}

01 Jan 2015 23:19:59
Surely you are not blaming Simon for the 2 goals today, there was nothing he can do about them, the 3 in front of him were a joke, look at the first goal all 3 were surrounding Vardy who was still able to make a pass, and as for the second goal, Can was too scared of the ball hitting him and turned his back.

I have it on good authority that NB (New Balance) will be our kit manufacturer next season.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is a rebranding of Warrior and was announced by the club a couple or three months ago.}

01 Jan 2015 22:18:53
It'll be announced tomorrow that Sevie's leaving.

What an absolute star and legend of the club. He'll be remembered as one of the greatest to ever pull on a red shirt.

Thank's for all the memories, you were one of us, a local lad living the dream of representing this great club and city.

You'll Never Walk Alone.

I thought that he had already left!

Sad day, not the player he was but time catches up with all of us. A true legend and will be remembered as one of the best liverpool players ever.

Think the slip against Chelsea hurt him more than anyone and he doesn't seem to have recovered but still the best leader we have.

I fear for liverpool going forward, fear sterling may not sign his contract and things may get worse before better.

Thank you for the memories Stevie G.

Agree5 Disagree0

Will always be a legend, but he could see himself that he couldn't keep up and be the player that he was, I'm glad that Gerrard has made the decision rather than the decision made for him. I think he can no longer be an automatic starter and needs to be dropped to the bench.

Agree2 Disagree2

01 Jan 2015 22:18:31
If we brought in a striker in Jan and you had to choose between Bony and Berahino who would be your choice?

Bony all the way for me - more experience both generally and in the EPL. Fly in the ointment now is a) the price will have gne up and b) rumours are that city are now interested too.

Berahino may have a great future, but I think he is too similar to Origi. The only thing. He has ageas of Bony is the fact that he will be available throughout January

LA galaxy in for Gerrard on a pre-contract and I hope he goes for it. He is a legend for Liverpool and does not deseerve the grief he is getting from fans. I personally would have not played him till Xmas given how deflated he was aftee finishing 2nd and the world cup. Go for it stevey. Ynwa!! Oh and get this. He'll be loaned out to napoli if benitez is still there next season. Similar to the lampard situation with city. If benitez isn't at napoli, AC Milan it is.
Mirror reporting shaquri from bayern is moving to us. £23mill.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I would think the chances of Gerrard being in Italy next season are about zip.}

01 Jan 2015 20:34:40
This will be my last post on Rodgers until may. It's all repetitive. I believe that he will be replaced whether we finish 4th or not. He needs to learn from his mistakes in the longer future and.potentially will be a great manager elsewhere. From now until the rest of the season, I'd like us to just have a real go in all matches and get sturridge back and firing. Hopefully there will be a few great matches and wins in store and the likes of can and markovic make a mark to improve on next season.

Season was over when THE CLUB sold Suarez. The fans ambitions are greater than the owners. We want to win the league, if your selling world class players not bringing any back in then you don't want to win anything

Agree6 Disagree2

Suarez`s situation was no longer tenable and we all knew that coming in this year so let`s all quit acting like we didn`t know he was gone the moment he bit Chiellini at the WC if not before that. We essed up big time this year BUT the eternal optimist in me tells me to not give up yet until it is ALL over and I won`t. BR will indeed be replaced if the Eds are to b believed and the choices we make as a club afterwards, is what we should be most interested in.

Agree3 Disagree3

In fairness to the owners, yes they sold a player who wanted to leave but why would they spend 120 mil thereafter if they had no ambition? Blame BR and the transfer committee if you're not happy.

Agree0 Disagree1

Exactly my point, Swishc!

Evening eds, several twitter pages have said stevie will announce tomorrow that he's chosen to join la galaxy at the end of season? Is this true? Or just made up as usual? Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

I think it will be the best thing for the club if Gerrard goes, our best performance of the season was Mon night without Gerrard and Henderson in the middle he slows the attack down and is not good enough defensively, also our best performance last year Spurs away with Henderson in the middle without Gerrard. For some reason Henderson was shunted out to the right today and our passing was a lot slower with Gerrard in the middle. Great servant but it's time to move in without Gerrard because he could cost Rodgers his job as well if he keeps playing him.

Agree10 Disagree1

01 Jan 2015 21:21:10
Have to concur. He should be used as an impact sub in the front 3. Leicester were walking through our midfield today

Thank you Stevie YNWA

Agree2 Disagree0

Stevie G, if you can hear me. It`s not been good, not even great watching you play for our great club. It`s been freaking AWESOME and a complete blast al these years watching play for LFC. Some of the memories you have left are indelible and we become watershed moments in our club`s folklore. If indeed it is true that you have chosen another path in your career, I cannot begin to thank you for all you have done and the many trophies you ahave helped bring to this great club. You will be sorely missed. Goodluck, brave captain and eternal legend and as always, You Will Never Walk Alone! Red Till I`m Dead!

Eds fellow reds, just watched spuds v chelsea .we are a million miles away .they are so much more fitter quicker and can pass with both feet .wont make top 6 this year boys . Anyone know what the crack with mario is he going or BR just being a butterfly as usual.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Just one game doesn`t mean anything although I agree they are looking good and Harry Kane is becoming one of my favs in the PL. However, it`s still just one game which in the end, doesn`t prove a thing in the long term.

Agree2 Disagree1

And yet we beat them 3-0 away last time our star player played

Agree3 Disagree0

But the points dropped in this one game could mean the difference between champs league and no champs league or even the europa league, we had a real chance to catch up against the one ahead of us and BR blew it by picking stevie,

how many more point will be sacifised before the owners say enough is enough, they have put a lot of money into the club and will expect better, the only way they can get 4th is by getting rid of BR as soom as

Agree3 Disagree2

BR will be here for rest of season and more I think .but keep your eye on Newcastle they will get a top man .i think rafa will be there man and he will get top 4 regular.drop a couple of quid on it mate

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO, BR will be gone Top4 or not if the Eds are to be believed.

Agree1 Disagree2

02 Jan 2015 00:35:29
Save your money, Rafa Benitez will never manage Newcastle whilst Ashley is there. He is a manager who can only work with total control of the club, like Pulis (who he much admires). Ashley wants a puppet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Which is why Pulis quit CP and didn`t take the Newcastle job, IMO.

Strong rumours going around that Gerrard will announce very soon that he has signed a pre-contract with LA Galaxy and will join them at the end of the season.

If so I ask all Kopites to not remember the Gerrard of this last year: the slipper, the lack of speed in central midfield which has cost us in some games; but the captain, Istanbul, the FA cup final of 2006, the man of 2009 who Zidane claimed was the best in the world.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Are the rumours true then?

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all over twitter at the minute. LA GALAXY looking most likely.
He'll always be a legend of the club
If it's true good luck stevie

King Luis

Agree1 Disagree0

I would say it all depend upon him.
My wife asked me this question today about Gerrard, now she is not a footballing person but knows the offside rule- if Gerrard knows that he has past it and the team is better without him why does he insist on playing almost every game? The only answer I could give is, may be he loves himself more that the club.
Now I don't want to remember Gerrard that way but I don't even want the club to fall more backwards then they are. He should do the honorable thing and move on, its best for everybody.

Agree6 Disagree0

I have no idea if it's true or not, but Galaxy do have a DP slot open with Donovan retiring, so it makes a bit of sense from that perspective. Galaxy are my local team, so would be a bit torn about this one.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They are certainly going to be one option.}

Me neither, Crazy> I know a player of his talent and calibre doesn`t get to where he is w/o having supreme belief in his own ability as ell as having an inflated ego. However if he knows he is past it and we are better w/o him YET he still wants to start every game and play 90mins, then the decision should be made for him by the club and release him with all the fanfare and honarable farewells a player and loyal servant of or club for almost 2 decades deserves.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with you redohio but if the manager doesn't have the balls to do it and the owners are not football people, gerrard could take that initiative and do what's best for the club. I am very sure he is a very smart person and have a plan outlined for himself, why not take the right decision for the club he has been for 2 decades. There is no doubt about the talent he had, or the service he provided to LFC and trophys he has won for us, but i will always put LFC ahead of everything else.

Agree0 Disagree0

Always talking sense as usual, Crazy. If the media is to be believed, SG is on his way to the Galaxy in MLS so maybe he has already made that decision which goes to your point of him being smart and knowing that his time is passed. As for BR not playing him, maybe this decision will change his MO and will now prob feel empowered to reduce SG`s role in the team. We shall see.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jan 2015 18:54:58
Poor to let a fortunate 2-0 lead slip. Attack wise were getting back to best, defensively its same old.
Not too gutted about the result if I am honest, but I am gutted by a missed opportunity to gain ground on United and Arsenal.
Cant wait for Sturridge to come back. Need something done with our Defense and GK. Good players don't go bad suddenly.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

The only thing needs to be done is get the best DOF and then get rid of rodgers. sometimes i feel he has no clue what he's doing. why to bring in borini for lallana why not markovic, why not start the same team as the one who beat Swansea, how come 2 days before the game he has made up his mind that gerrad will be back in the team. isn't that decided on the last training session.

Agree4 Disagree1

You talk some sense, Crazy. BR like he did throughout the first half of the season, has cocked up again by ruining the very thing he has built prior. We had some momentum and LC was the perfect opposition with which to get healthy at home. What does he do? He changes the team that has gotten some wind in it`s back by introducing SG along w/ Lucas (a pairing that has failed time and again this year and last) while dropping a solid Manquillo and playing Hendo at RWB where he is wasted after having playing a blinder vs Swansea in his pref position in central midfield. As a result, we were poor all day especially in midfield where we had no control, no verve and bringing on Borini who offered absolutely nothing instead of Lambo who would have held the ball up and help relieve some pressure was a dumb decision. Pathetic and naive again by BR. Teams above us would drop points for sure and that was obvious going into today`s games yet BR fumbled with the selections and decisions just to please SG. We have to do better quickly or Top 4 will be gone in no time.

Agree5 Disagree2

01 Jan 2015 20:35:08
Fully agree about Manquillo amd Hendo there Red. I do believe that we are making tactical errors, but I also believe that managers develop in the same way as players. Christmas 2015 is when a change of manager is required if we are faultering. Stability is what out club needs from management perspective right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Honestly I have given up on this season . Getting the right DOF will be the most important thing for us. even if we sack BR who knows which manager the owners will appoint. If we have a solid DOF he could see things from a footballing perspective, can offer his advise on team selection, youth management. A DOF should be the best transfer we ever did and then everything will fall into its place.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like many of us as well as Ed01, the DOF is the most important decisin we will ever make going forward in the summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jan 2015 18:31:27
Hi eds or fellow poster, want to get your opinion on few of these managers. Firstly its pochetino, its not because they are winning against Chelsea, its because I did watch thier games a lot this year and always felt that they play good football, obviously much better than us.
Second one is rudi Garcia I did watch Roma play few times and they are interesting to watch as well. The game where they were 4-0 down to Bayern in CL match he did take out totti in the half time, now that's guts he is the Roma god and he subed him and they played much better second half. It made me think why can't Rodgers have the balls to do that to Gerrard. Rodgers would be the only manager to change a winning team or a formula to one that doest work at all

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what your question is. Sorry.}

Ed just want to know what do you think of those two managers, how they are doing in their respective teams. not related to Liverpool in any way or that they will come to Liverpool, just an opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I remember Garcia as a scout for St Et a number of years ago. He is liked and well thought of an did well at Lille. All is going well at Roma. Pochettino will do well and is favoured by a number of mainland European sides - although he turned down an approach from a French side last summer. I suspect he will move before too long.}

Thanks ed always wait for your precious opinion. would even like to get EMS or harry or Redohio opinion on these guys. In any case i wish we go for Biesla as a coach and monshi as a DOF. I know i'm dreaming.

Agree0 Disagree0

Garcia started to gain recognition when he was manager at Le Mans who he got promoted to Ligue 1 b4 going to Lille and now Roma. He has always been well thought of and in a year or two, could be in line for a bigger job if he continues to do well there.

Balotelli not even on the bench. Not particularly bothered by it and maybe he's injured or something, but really wish we'd stop plunking down good money to no discernible purpose.

preferred watching southampton over liverpool today , really feeling bad. donno where ken s lucky pants are

Agree6 Disagree0

Ths stops with Rodger. A box to box midfielder at right wing back, an attacking midfielder in holding midfield, a holding midfielder in a box to box role, an attacking midfielder with one premier league goal in about 15 games up front.

Manquillo/McLaughlin should've played right wing back instead of Hendo.

Henderson should've played box to box instead of Lucas.

Lucas should've played holding midfield instead of Gerrard.

Borini, Yesil or Sinclair should've played up front instead of Sterling (1 Premier league goal in 15 games despite playing 6 of those games as a striker!).

Lallana clearly wasn't fit for todays game which is terrible management when we have Sterling, Ojo, Markovic etc all capable of playing the role he is in. Do we even do fitness tests at this club? Lallana could be injured for a few weeks now because Rodgers is scared of his academy.

Mingolet should be dropped permanently unless Ward is in a coma.

Either put Gerrard in the front 3 or don't play him. Once again Lampard wins a game for City as an impact sub. Meanwhile, Gerrard costs us a game as he's shoe horned into a position he can't play by a clueless fool.

We finally find a set up and system that works, and Rodgers takes less than 48 hours to blow it to smithereens.

Agree21 Disagree8

Totally agree. Posted something similar but isn't on the board. Cannot blame Mignolet today. Bob paisley knew when a players time was up and got rid, even bigger stars than Stevie were shifted on when their legs had gone. Why change the system is beyond me. He continues to put square pegs in round holes, ie Henderson playing wing back. Manqillo should have played there and Hendo should have been in midfield.

Agree7 Disagree0

I don't necessarily disagree EMS, but I do think people are reading far too much into the Swansea win. Swansea were so bad on the day I suspect our U-21s might have beat them, so labeling that set up as one that works I find a tad presumptuous.

Agree4 Disagree9

Spot on RDL - personally I don't think it is a good system at all unless you have absolutely world class wing backs who can both attack and defend superbly and know when they should advance and when they should retreat. Moreno is decent but he ain't that and as for Henderson at right wing-back? Just laughable, should be nowhere near that position, it diminishes all his strengths and highlights his weaknesses. Also don't think we need to be playing 2 defensive midfielders is we have 3 at the back? Oh wait, we must accomodate Gerrard. Shambolic.

Agree4 Disagree2

I don't want to see Borini anywhere near an LfC shirt again. In fact I'll walk out if he's brought on as a sub again. Granted EMS I agree re Hendo being played on the right and some of your other points but it's no coincidence that when Borini and the changes were made we lost shape and put ourselves under pressure. I agree this stops with Rodgers. Let's face it, what has it come too, Borini and Lambert up front, somebody has to take responsibility for this shambles.

Agree8 Disagree0

Adam
You were backing Rodgers after Swansea.
The rest of this season will be a slog

Agree8 Disagree2

Adam blows with wind eh. tends to write the populist opinion on any given day.

Agree4 Disagree1

After Swansea I basically said:

"Fair play to Rodgers, he came up with this system that seems to be working better. He is also stating to learn and make big calls. This is his last chance with me though. If he goes backwards again I'm done with him permanently."

It took him less than 48 hours to completely dismantle his own system. On another day, we'd have lost by 2 or 3 goals today. Against a better team we'd have probably lost by double figures it was that poor.

I convinced myself to give him one more chance after Swansea. He's blown it already though. Trust me mate there will be no more positive posts from me about Brendan again this season. He will need to win my support back now because it's gone completely.

Just when you start to think he is learning from the mistakes, he goes back to type, drops the pressing, puts Gerrard back into midfield, persists with players out of position etc etc etc.

I'm sick of giving him chances now. I'm done.

Agree9 Disagree7

This season is effectively over(was over in October if truth be known), something has to change, be it the manager or certain senior players who are inhibiting the teams progress.

All I know is this, without Gerrard, we looked cohesive and stronger defensively, with Gerrard we are effectively down to ten men as he has no pace, the turning circle of the QE2 and can't tackle.

If Brendan wants to keep his job he needs to tell Gerrard that his time is up at the club.

Agree3 Disagree2

Fair play, EMS. That's understandable.

Have an 'agree'.

Agree1 Disagree1

Hi Adam. On 2nd thoughts. Maybe we're letting you off the hook too easily.

I just read further down the page that you were predicting a 5-0 win - with Gerrard to score! Before being called out on this - you were saying that he shouldn't have been in the side, and acting as if you had thought so all along.

That's hypocritical tbh.

There are many here who had foreseen this colossal train-wreck of tactical naivety. But you are/were not one of them.

I reckon this is why to see you writing about Rodgers in such an 'I knew all along' tone may seem a little irritating to quite a few here, who had more of an eye for spotting the problems from the off, and have been bleating on and on about them for months now.

Sorry Adam! Nothing personal. Top bantz you know, innit.

Agree2 Disagree1

No worries Kilbane. I'd just like to add though that I definitely don't post the populist opinion haha.

I have been ribbed constantly for disagreeing with everyone over Lukaku, Moreno, Gerrard, Balotelli, Bertrand, Allen, Lucas, Rodgers, Dalglish, Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling etc.

If anything I'm the complete opposite to one who jumps on the bandwagon! I leave myself open to slaughter haha. I just post my genuine opinion irrespective of what others think, I'm not always right (who is?) But I'm also not always wrong.

I'm definitely not a sheep though ;) although my ancestry is Welsh!

Agree3 Disagree3

All valid posts, boys. Soeone needs to put us out of this misery by telling SG he in no longer a regular starter and will have to accept a minimal role in the team or BR has to either have the balls to make hard decisions for the sake of the club and his job or he too should b sacked. BR including SG is killing the team and we can all see that BUT BR and SG themselves. Lord, let this farce end now!

Agree2 Disagree1

I was actually one of the first to criticise him. Way back after the Chelsea defeat.

I was expecting Gerrard to cone on as a sub or start in an advanced position like he did last time against Leicester. I didn't think Rodgers would put him back in midfield and wreck the teams balance.

I'm not sure what you mean about the "I knew it all along" stuff. I haven't said that or even implied that. I'm pretty sure it's been obvious to nearly everyone for about 3 months, not just myself.

I rather optimistically looked too much into the Swansea win and convinced myself Rodgers had finally seen sense. That is the only thing I'm guilty of though mate; blind optimism for the new year. I was wrong with my prediction because I expected us to play the way we did against Swansea. I was willing to give Rodgers my support one more time. Now, that is gone.

I'm fairly sure every fan in the country has been guilty at least omce this season of thinking "hopefully this is the turning point". It was my turn after the Swansea game, but don't worry, I can see clearly again.

Agree3 Disagree1

I did actually say in the post further down to put Gerrard in the front 3 which is exactly what I've put on this thread too. So I'm not sure what your point is to be honest.

There is nothing hipocritical about being consistent ;)

Agree3 Disagree2

Extract from the post you mention Kilbane:

"One thing I did consider is resting Sterling and putting Gerrard in the false 9 role. He will hold up the ball better, has a better finishing technique and is very clever with his runs. He might not have the pace or ability to beat a man but he will still hurt them. I just think it'd be absolutely ridiculous to break up the Hendo-Lucas partnership after how well they played vs Swansea. The other option is to leave Gerrard on the bench and give Balo, Lambert or Borini a chance to actually start a game in this new found 3-4-3 / 5-2-3 / 3-6-1 etc."

I clearly suggest here that Gerrard either starts in the front 3 or on the bench. Not in central midfield.

I genuinely cannot see why you're calling me hypocritical here mate.

Agree3 Disagree3

Fair enough Adam. It's all cool!! :)

Agree1 Disagree0

To be fair EMS, even a broken clock is right twice a day ;)

Agree1 Disagree1

God man Adam. I always enjoy your posts

Hello Eds,
What with this being a reputable rumours site, and modern "journalism" seemingly consisting of nothing more that trawling twitter et al, I was wondering if you have ever noticed an instance of a rumour, obviously made up or mischievous, being started here and then picked up by mainstream media? Seems the logical extension of this site's role.

Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - About three years ago someone did do that. The problem with the UK "journalism" is that they do indeed seemingly pull information from blogs or twitter nowadays. Obviously there are still those folks who don't but the "new generation" seemingly have now real interest in sorting the good from the bad.}

It may have been purely coincidential, but last year I spoke to an ex coach from Austria who told me that Liverpool had been scouting 2 Red Bull Salzburg players (Kevin Kampl and Martin Hinteregger), there was nothing online at the time. I posted what I had been told on here and the next day a site had us linked with the 2 players and Transfermarkt had that site linked as a source. It could have been a coincidence but you know what Journalists are like these days.

I don't believe in coincidence. It isn't a surprise at all that this happens; even Sky are reporting what twitter says about non-stories now.

I'm glad they didn't pick up on the Rodgers to Liverpool rumour posted by Macca.

Macca insisted that Liverpool were still interested, even after Rodgers initially knocked us back.

If they did listen, I wouldn't have got the healthy 16-1 odds at the time.

Needless to say, I won a few bob.

Personally, I've never seen or heard a 'rumour' as accurate.

What a nice chap.

Wish you all and families have wealthy and healthy.

I need info support from you EDs.
As I follow your answers in topic of investigation process from the owner.
Do you have any informatuon that when the process will be finalised? (In Jan, Feb or Mar)
And what would be going on for a new set up? And if we have to change the head coach, I know you mentioned to De Boer is the first option but who are other options in case De Boer deny us again?

Thank you and Best Regards

Who's interested in El Shaarawy? I think his hair would compliment our team perfectly! ;)

Lots being said about points total needed for 4th, based on history. This season seems a bit different though. So called mid table teams are doing better, and so called upper table teams struggle at times. I think there's a good chance 5 or 6 teams will be in the race for 4th and maybe even third. We're 6 points away from where we need to be and have had a pretty ordinary first half of the season, surely we can only improve?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

The fact that so many other "big" teams have played poorly and find themselves above us in the table says everything about just how bad we have been. 3rd place is/was there for the taking - we are currently a significant distance of that. Talk of an upturn in our fortunes, after an undeserved 1-0 win over Burnley and a comfortable 4-1 home win over a bad Swansea, is premature. Against even half decent teams we have floundered and I have seen little evidence thus far of that anomaly being rectified.

Agree4 Disagree3

It's hard to see us needing anything less than 13 wins or so from the next 19. It's possible, sure, but we only won 15 out of the last 19 last season and that was without many distractors (Europa, League Cup).

Agree0 Disagree1

I believe it is possible. take the game one at a time.

Agree1 Disagree0

You also have to look at who we are chasing. ManU and Arsenal both look quite solid at the moment and just like us are in good momentum. They will not lose many points against teams that are not Chelsea or City and we need them to. We, however, will have to take a lot of points in the big games as well. I still think, if we are indeed getting much better, and the Swansea game was not a one off and with a better GK and a fit Sturridge, we may have a half decent chance to do it in the Europa League.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we need to win 19 out of 19 now to win the title
14 out of 19 for fourth spot.
we could start by winning today against leicester.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seano united didn't deserve the 3-0 win over us nor 2-1 over Southampton but they got 6 points.

It's irrelevant what point totals have got certain positions in the past you've got to lookat what's in front of you.

After chelsea drew to Southampton did you really see city drawing at home to Burnley. I doubt it.

At the end of the day we are 5 points off 4th spot which isn't a lot and within 3 or 4 games that could easily be changed.

If united draw or lose today at stoke which they could and we win, we are looking 5-6 points of 3rd.

Lets just look at 1 game at a time and see what happens.

Agree4 Disagree1

United deserve to be above us in the league at the moment, but there is still a way to go yet. We are playing better now and will be even better when Sturridge the soot juggler comes back.
Personally I don't believe united are better than us at present despite their position. Its head down and roll your sledves up time for our boys. If we can get a decent result today, it will be a big mental boost for the team. If Gerard back, who gets dropped, i hope not lucas ?

Agree1 Disagree0

Utd to lose today, Southampton to draw with the Gunners, Spurs to get beat 3-0 by Chelsea, Everton to get beat, just for the fun of it and Liverpool to win 5-0. Things will look better by 8pm tonight. Trust me! I never get these things wrong!

Agree4 Disagree1

@ Lavers - We were woeful against Burnley Lavers and that result, combined with the Swansea one, is fuelling a lot of talk of a resurgence in our form. I don't deny that United have rode their luck this season but it isn't really relevant to either our club or my original post. This talk of us flying up the table is an over reaction to 2 wins against, let's face it, weak opposition. That we didn't deserve to beat Burnley speaks volumes for how well we have actually played. If we beat Leicester its 3 more points against what you would have to consider weak opposition - I don't think such a win marks an upturn in fortunes - when we start doing it in the tough games, when we need to win, then i'll buy into it. Until then, for me, wins over Burnley and Swansea signify little.

I agree with Tel an Rover, especially with Rovers predictions which are similar to mine!!

Tell, mate, what's a soot juggler?

Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheer up Seano lol
I agree we were crap against Burnley, but all we need is confidence.

Against arsenal we deserved 3 points, united 3-0 was very flattering for them. Also against Chelsea we should have had at least 1 penalty which could have changed the game.

To say how crap we have been to be where we are has got to give you confidence because there's only one way we can go and it's up.

I don't think we are going to go on and win the league but top 4 is realistic.

Agree1 Disagree1

Seano, to be fair, Burnley have caused a few teams problems this season. They recently drew 2-2 with City as well, so it's obviously not just us who had a bad game against them.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's brilliant you've all just completely discounted southampton, and are concentrating on UTD and Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

@lavers - is this Leicester game cheering you up?

@hsf - City are fighting for the title. Slip-ups happen - when you play badly every game for half a season it ceases to be a "slip-up".

Agree0 Disagree0

Seano

It was doing , sod it Rodgers out Rodgers out haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Well we didn`t win and played aweful due to BR`s stupid decision of changing a winning team s so much for calculations and if`s and but`s. Forget the calculations because it is freaking irrelevant. Why? We are outsiders and on the outside looking in to 4th spot hence, leave the calculations alone, focus on one game at a time and focus on winning that game. The rest will take care of itself.

Agree0 Disagree0

2 penalties (one a definite joke, the 2nd very harsh) saves us from defeat. Another abject performance and against the leagues bottom team? Sorry but you read way too much into the Swansea result - it was the exception to this seasons rule, the Leicester game is the standard and boy was that standard scraping the barrel.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree with the analysis of the second penalty. Couts played a pass to Sterling and the defender`s arm was so far away from his body and hit the ball which stopped the pass from going to Sterling. Result? Penalty! Why? In that specific situation, intentional or not no longer comes into it because it stopped a pass from reaching it`s destination during an attacking phase. If you doubt me, check the incident in the Utd v Stoke game where Crouch heads the ball towards goal and the ball hit Smalling`s arm in the same situation the Leicester defender was in. The ref did not give it YET everyone including me, was outraged a penalty was not given. Stoke should have had a penalty just as we had a pen for the second penalty incident.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

I don't really care, if he slips again but we finish 2nd, that's better than 6th.

i care about where liverpool stand at the end of the season. there is a chance gerrard will no longer be here next season.but liverpool will still be in the premier league.

ed001,
I;ve re watched the last few games, you emntioned previously a few of the squad are pressing, would you agree those players are:
Coutinho, hendo, lallana(moreno when played and sakho when necessary)

I do feel however Sterling takes up some poor positions, when we are doing the press and doesn't really bother himself. It may come in time, but Studge and Suarex were certainly much better and went out wider to help.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Sterling does get involved at times, but he is still learning his role and when to press.}

Feeling optimistic for tomorrows game. I fancy us to win and win big.

Rodgers is playing a good system, the pressing and direct counter attacking is slowly creeping back into our game, Lallana, Henderson and Coutinho are finding form, Sterling is still making a nuisance of himself even if he has only scored once in the last 10-12 Premier league games (he creates space for others well) and the defence will be so much more solid with Can, Toure and Sakho in the back 3 (although Lovren could be there also).

One thing I did consider is resting Sterling and putting Gerrard in the false 9 role. He will hold up the ball better, has a better finishing technique and is very clever with his runs. He might not have the pace or ability to beat a man but he will still hurt them. I just think it'd be absolutely ridiculous to break up the Hendo-Lucas partnership after how well they played vs Swansea. The other option is to leave Gerrard on the bench and give Balo, Lambert or Borini a chance to actually start a game in this new found 3-4-3 / 5-2-3 / 3-6-1 etc.

I was spot on when I dreamt of a 4-1 against Swansea (although scorers were miles out!). No foreseeing dreams this time but I fancy us to destroy Leicester. 5-0 maybe. Lallana x2, Gerrard, Henderson and Coutinho to score.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

I would prefer to see Markovic up top rather than Gerrard. Markovic has a wicked burst of pace that would tend to catch Leicester's defenders off guard. If that does not work out, then maybe introduce Balo or Gerrard to either replace or partner Markovic up front. Without pace and energy up front, the team has looked average ever since Brendan got here. So why remove the team's biggest strength up front. Gerrard simply does not have the legs for it anymore.

Agree2 Disagree0

I'd prefer Borini personally. I just wanted to get peoples opinions on where to put Gerrard.

Agree0 Disagree0

On the bench Adam. Why change a winning formula. Apart from Skrtle's suspension.

No doubt he will recall Gerard as he will not have the bottle to keep him out two games running.

I was thinking when Sturridge is back we should try Sterling on the right wing back role. I know you like him behind the front man but Lallana and Coutinho have looked good there.
