Gents,

I'm not too sure if you know Chris the Redman (CTR) from the Manchester United site.

Have just heard he has just had a newborn baby son who is fighting for his life.

Putting all rivalry and banter aside, can you keep him in your thoughts and wish him all the best.

All the best Chris, to you and your little red devil.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wishing you and your family all the best Chris. Really sorry to hear the news. Best wishes from everyone on this site

Agree0 Disagree0

I second that Dags, all rivalries should be forgotten when it comes to

things like this

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no rivalry in such circumstances. God bless that little baby, he will be in my prayers.

Great result today, all credit to Brendan and the players. This game was a banana skin which we skilfully avoided.
I still think we're a bit too easy to break down at the back. Against more clinical strikers it could have cost us.
With respect to the title, I'm not thinking about it yet. Still just focusing on making sure the lucky pants are available for the next game. It's still about top 4 for me. Once that is confirmed, then I will look at whether we can win the league.

If anyone had said in August we'd be second after 28 games I'd have laughed in their face. It's a remarkable turn around by Brendan, he deserves more recognition than he gets.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree totally but sense Rodgers is probably happy not to receive as much praise as he may deserve, I think he is one of those men who prefers being under the radar

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed! think Allen had good game we win together we lose together! As a group glad there so many happy lfc fans at min love it!! Enjoy

The sign of a great team is one that can win when not playing their best. A team that can dare to dream of a title. Let's just keep calm, not bother with anyone else, just keep doing what we are doing.

Great result today against a difficult team even though I thought we were lucky to be up at half time, Great turn around in the second half as I saw they didn't threaten as we took control of the game. Excellent team win, no one player was bad, (Coutinho not at his best) Suarez continues to amaze, tireless & worked hard for the team.
Side not I think Pardew should get a fine & ban from the ground's, equal to Suarez as his offence today was comparable.

Banter please Eds.

Whilst crying in my beer this evening (Arsenal performance/result), I took the time out to watch you boys.

Wow, seriously, you lot impress me so much.

Great performance and result and your front 3 are just electric. You have hit form at the right time and look impressive.

I may be slightly premature but I just can't see us winning the league, and if that's the case I would love you boys to win it.

If you do, than it's a victory for the purists and for those of us who love football.

Well done again today and can I just add, that despite all the stick, Brendan Rodgers is a fantastic manager.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A very honorable post from a very honorable man, hats off to you Dags, if only all opposition fans had as much class. Absolutely proud of you sir. There's not much else I can say except that I certainly hold you in very high esteem. You're a gentleman!

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers DG, the feeling is mutual regarding winning the league.

Are you getting worried about our lads yet?

Agree0 Disagree0

Pleasure mate and mutual respect to you and the fine boys on here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also thanks for posting about the sad news Chris is having deal with. He will need support so hats off to you for bringing it to all our attention

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken,

I have been worried about your boys for a few weeks now.

I think Brendan Rogers must be wearing somebody's lucky pants, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

A bit unlucky on the day, DG. To be fair to Stoke (and I never thought I'd be saying this) they actually played pretty decent football and while I'm not sure they deserved all 3 points I did think Arsenal looked a bit flat at times.

Question though- for me, whenever see I Oxlade-Chamberlain in the side (as with Walcott before him) Arsenal look to me to be much more dangerous as he brings pace to the attack which is otherwise a bit lacking. Do you wish he was playing more than he is?

Agree0 Disagree0

RDL,

Totally agree mate and i'm not too sure why wenger doesn't start him in more games.

Really important win - not the most fluent first half and perhaps we were lucky to go in at halftime ahead but for the 90 minutes there was great intensity, a lot of heart and desire and a bit of quality when we needed it. Thought everyone bar Johnson played well and put in a good shift, Allen's pressing really impressed me and helped us stifle Southampton in the second half. Onwards and upwards, one game at a time - United next, could be a vital game but then again they all at that stage aren't they?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I remember johnson putting in some fairly important tackles second half

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2014 22:09:27
Edd001, Johnson just walzes back into the team.and is yet to perform. Is BR serious about a new contract?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not on his current terms, and nothing has been offered yet.}

Give the guy a break for god's sake.
He did well today.
Lovren and Fonte - found out, big time. Too slow and couldn't handle the best attack in the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

He played great today. He's better at LB

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Johnson had his best game for months. He's not performed well most the season but last night he was above average when he stuck to his flank

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry OP, I have to agree with the other posters. I thought he did well today.

Personally I think he plays better at LB as he has to concentrate more and apply himself differently than at RB. Bit more of a mental test for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to disagree with The Juicer and DBol - Johnson was one of the two players who didn't play well today and- Coutinho got subbed. GJ seems to play whenever he is fit regardless of the effort he shows

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson was poor look at his positioning, how long he takes on the ball and his decision making. ,,,,

Really proud of the boys today! We put in a good shift, kept a clean sheet and scored 3 against a difficult team. Props to the boys, also to Rodgers for keeping the title talk off the cards however much he was goaded in the post match interview : )

Hope Suarez is all good after the Wanayama tackle too!

Anyone slating our defence now? yeah I didn't think so!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How long have you been waiting to post that?

Agree0 Disagree0

We.could have conceded 3 goals in the first half. A good defense also limits' opportunities

Agree0 Disagree0

Our defence is crap lad

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate, we weren't fantastic. Besides one good defensive display doesn't mean you can come out with the itoldyouso posts. Nonetheless, here's to 10 more clean sheets.

Great performance today from the lads on the pitch, but an even better performance from the fans on the terraces, we made an incredible racket at St Mary's today, well done us!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Mar 2014 21:38:37
Mignolet had a good game. Great save to keep us in the lead and a confident punch out. for once. 8/10

Just how good was Flanagan today. again.? The wee man has really made that position his own. He looks solid as a rock for all the age of him. 10/10

Again, Skrtel shows why he has been played more than any other defender this season. he's improving, which I thought was near impossible for a player his age. 9/10

Agger is still recovering from injury and still manages to have a great 90 mins. 8/10

Johnson. not to comfortable on the left but I think it helps him to focus more on the job at hand. overall had a decent game. 7/10

Gerrard. nuff said. 10/10 (p.s. what a penalty)

Stroke of genius to put Allen in instead of Sterling. Disrupted and broke up Southampton's play constantly, which made them lose confidence and easier to penetrate. 8/10

Henderson will be our main man in midfield in the not too distant future. Chased every ball, harassed Southampton no end. 8/10

Coutinho has been very inconsistent of late, really shining in some games, nowhere to be seen in others. unfortunately the latter was the case here. Still showed some talent though not at his best. 6/10

Suarez has really impressed me since coming back from the ban. he has really turned a corner and now just seems to want to show everyone how good he actually is, without the drama. Back on the scoresheet and hopefully the beginning of a streak. 10/10 (p.s, great post match interview, really showed he wants the whole team to do well)

Sturridge just wasnt on it today. Gutted for him to lose his goal streak and you could see how disappointed he was after being brought off. i'd bet my last £20 that he scores against the enemy though. 7/10

1st touch. Take a bow young Raheem Sterling. Changed the game when he came on. fresh, fast legs, Southampton's defenders just couldn't handle. Goal may have been well set up but still needed a good finish, which it was. 8/10 (sub)

Aspas just isn't on the same wavelength as the rest of the team. I can see that he could be a decent player, just in a different team. Obviously couldn't do much with what time he had on the pitch but it was just enough time to see he doesn't really belong. no disrespect to the guy. 5/10 (sub)

Overall, great game. Fantastic to keep the clean sheet, especially away from home and even more so, the fact it was at St Mary's was a big bonus. Special Mention to Lallana, Shaw, Schneiderlin and Rodriguez. They are somewhat the backbone to Southampton. Lallana is a talent, just hope some day he changes his mind about wanting to play for Liverpool. Maybe the temptation of Champions League Football might lure him but at the minute, he seems happy where he is. Good to see Southampton back in the Premier League doing well. They produce some of the best players in British Football.

WE'RE going to WIN THE LEAGUE!. (maybe)

YNWA!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think you rated hendo too highly and aspas too low. Henri had an off night and aspas not much time but showed well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your rating of Johnson is very strange as is the 10/10 for Flanagan. He did well but by equal measure Shaw got the best of him multiple times, would not give him a 10. Johnson was shambolic and wasteful in possession and gave them the ball in dangerous areas multiple times - for me our worst performer and a 6 (at best).

Your rating of Aspas is well harsh - he was on for 10 minutes whilst we were sitting back and absorbing pressure. He harried, chased and pressed and did what he could given the juncture of the game and the time he was given, lay off the lad FFS.

Agree0 Disagree0

Allen has to be 10 out if 10 for me definitely a nine he was phenomenal in all aspects of the game. Possibly didn't hurt Southampton going forward enough but I really think if he hadn't played today we wouldn't have won certainly not 3-0 and I was gutted he didn't get motm.

Ed fellow reds, another great result on a average performance, sign of a good team .but let's just take each game as they come .priority is top 4 were in a great position for champs league so let just keep title talk low key .As fans we all want the league but let's not pressure the team into it .keep calm thought the travelling fans were superb today and this could be the key as fans let keep the songs rolling out and the volume high because that will spur our lads on and intimedate the other teams, old Trafford next would be nice for utd fans to be leaving on 55 minutes as well .com'mon mighty reds .great chance now, let's all just keep pulling the same way .and we ll be coming down the road when you hear the noise of the bill shankley well be coming down the road.

The referee was excellent tonight. He allowed the game to be played as it should be. Some of the challenges would have brought cards elsewhere but there was total respect between both sets of players and no handbags.
Well done and |I hope Howard 'Man U ' Webb was watching.

Fantastic Fantastic Captain FANTASTIC . What a player Steven Gerrard has been for our club. unbelievable contribution yet again. playing now with possibly the most talented team around him he has experienced in a red shirt since he made his debut all them years ago.For 10 years running I think he improved season on season before 2 recent seasons when a slight dip in form was evident, but the standards he set were right at the very top and so difficult to maintain yet we are witnissing again on a regular basis the great man putting in performances right up with the very best once more and with a completely different role in the team.

Fantastic man management by Brendan Rodgers and his coaching staff who along with stevie is proving people wrong on a weekly basis as well, having assembled a squad we can only all be very proud of.

Add all that and include a very talented crop of youth players coming through from the academy and we look to have a very bright future indeed.

The football we are playing this season is an absolute joy to watch with all our attacking flair flowing through the team,, goals galore and a team spirit akin to a side going places at a quicker rate than any of us could have imagined.

1 game at a time is the always the right way forward, and as we know from previous title winning years the final part of the season is without doubt the hardest, with many sides ( especially this year ) with plenty still left to play for.

We are all a bit in dreamland rearly after many years without a team who look so capable collectively as our boys do now, but dream we will .

Ask yourselves the question,, who is your favorite player? even with stevie in the team. so many have come to the fore this season the answer amongst us all will be more varied than ever.

I have no doubt a statue of our captain fantastic will be erected outside anfield in the not to distant future whether we win the title or not during his tenure, but a victorious season culminating in a premier league title medal ( against huge odds ) before he finishes his career would be the most fitting and deserving medals in Liverpools glorious history, and would result in more tears of joy in my household than even that magical evening in Istanbul 2005.

I posted last week about my LFC shirt I wear for the gym and how it ain't been washed not since we lost our last league match. Well here goes another trip to the gym tomorrow and keep it in its current state till end of season if required. Just got a strange feeling this season we seem to be building like we did under Houlier when we got that treble. I hate to build it up to winning the title but its just a crazy season at the min and if we consider our form since last Jan we have been fairly consistent. let's hope we can keep this up and see what happens, nice of my local team Stoke to take points off Arsenal today, come on you red men!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really hope your stink becomes such a major issue you get thrown out of this gym lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Not to emulate your posts but I also wear my shirt to the gym (in bolton),

{Ed001's Note - I have asked myself that a few times mate! Seriously though, they were both Kiwis anyway, and one just couldn't handle the UK weather, the cold used to depress her, so we split up as she just wanted to go back there. At least that's what she told me.....}

01 Mar 2014 20:37:25
Wasn't the teams finest performance but I honestly couldn't care less! The team dug in once again, worked hard and got the 3 points. Who would have thought we would be in the mix at this stage of the season at the beginning? The team spirit is great, credit to Brendan and the players! Take it one game at a time, who knows, might just finish top of the tree! YNWA

great win, we seem to keep getting results that in previous years we wouldn't have got, a really good season.

only thing that niggled a bit was our first touch at times, particularly first 50-60 mins, other that that brilliant, skrtel and agger looked comfortable at the back, perhaps that pairing will be best for the rest of the season.we'll see.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Mar 2014 20:21:52
I had to chuckle. I came onto the site during the first half of the game to read a reply from Ed1 and there was so many comments about our defense and midfield collapsing and how terrible we were playing. Egg on faces comes to mind.

I wish people would realise that teams cannot be brilliant every game and also have some respect and appreciation for how good teams like Southampton are and how difficult it is to go away and get a result, let alone dominate the team entirely.

Great performance and result for the lads and BR. I'm not getting carried away about winning the league as I still feel Chelsea and City are favourites but how great is it to be in the mix again. I'd be happy with 3rd and no CL qualification and think we have a really good chance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I commented on how poor we were in the first half but those comments were made based on how were playing. I didn't say we were going to lose, therefore I don't have any egg on my face.

We were terrible first half and a better team would have annihilated us with our defence and midfield being so poor.

In fact, we were very lucky not to concede. We played very poorly but still got three points which tells me that we can now grind out results when playing bad which is what all the top teams do now and then.

However it been a team like Chelsea or man city playing against us the way were playing in the first half, we would be coming away from that game with nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree Biggy but it's cool to have different opinions. One of the many things that makes this site so great.

Southampton are better than people give them credit for and have beaten most visiting teams. I thought they played as well as anyone has against us first half and yet we still held on and scored.

By the way, I wasn't having a pop at you personally just the immediate negativity from posts if we're not thrashing teams within the first 15 mins. Makes me chuckle! ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

In future please reserve your opinions at for the end of the game.
The fact is we played better than this when we went to Chelsea and Manchester City and got nothing from it. From that you should have surely realised its the end result that matters!

Sorry for the rant, but it does get quite annoying when people blast the team while winning at only half time!

Agree0 Disagree0

Terrible? We were far from it mate thought the lads did great. We lost there last season and the beat us at anfield.
How many times we have crumbled under such pressure. Bring on united let's chuck a grenade in the coffin so to speak.

Agree0 Disagree0

I must be watching a different game to some people on this site. Liverpool where amazing to hold off a attacking team like southampton with a strike force we have playing on the pitch. we are currently 2nd, most likely 3rd if man city win any of there 2 games in hand but I'm sure we can keep up, next up old trafford.

man utd we are coming for you!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2014 22:26:43
How can Biggy's comments during the game possibly be a bad thing? If for some reason I am unable to watch a game live, then I would like updates on how things are going. good or bad!
To suggest that he saves his comments till the end ( because you don't happen to agree with them ) is ridiculous.

I happen to agree with his comments today, but that's irrelevant. We go on to win 3 nil and all of a sudden everyone jumps on the backs of those who have dared to post an honest half time review!
It was clear for all to see (surely) that the first half was a shocker, but it doesn't make someone 'less of a fan' or any less desperate to win just because he has dared to say so!

There are comments today about several players being 'outstanding'. not 'average' or 'good' or 'great' but . *outstanding*!
Not just because we won 3 nil of course!

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstly I would like to say that I was only providing updates on the team's performance real time.

It's so frustrating to see us play this sloppy when I know we can and have played much better against stronger teams.

When I watch Liverpool play, it is an emotional roller coaster for me and when we play bad, I sometimes use this site as an outlet by providing updates on our performance so far.

Maybe that's something the eds would
Consider. allowing someone to provide a real time commentary of the game for those people who can't watch the game?

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh and thanks sivy, your comments are appreciated.

Just to clarify, I also posted that despite the fact we were winning, we weren't playing well.

But once the game ended, I also acknowledge that winning when playing bad goes to show how far we have come because previously, we would have lost that game, whereas as now we are winning.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Biggy, never intended for you to get stick pal. My initial post was referring to the general doom and gloom posts that pop up each week when we're not winning 3-0 within first 10 mins. You did kinda fall into that category with your first post this week but we all see games differently so please don't hold back on posting and updating.

Always good to hear thoughts from a fellow Red

Agree0 Disagree0

No worries mate, no offence taken. I am very passionate about LFC, and I comment on the fly, as the game is played, rather than waiting for the game to end.

It's quite therapeutic lol but I do understand how my comments can be taken. However I am definitely not a doom and gloom merchant. Had we been playing awesome for the full 90 minutes, I still would have commented but my comments would have reflected how we were playing at the time.

Absolutely magnificent win. BR excellent. Every player excellent today. It'll be said countless times but dare we dream? I believe so!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great win. Every player excellent? Don't agree with that. Coutinho not great for one. Clean sheet tho, absolutely delighted.

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson was dire as well - how many times did he do a 180 turn an either lose possession, gift possession to Southampton or just look incredibly dangerous? Totally unconvinced by Johnson, everyone else played really well.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2014 19:59:16
Looks like I was wrong then! Biggest win of the season in my opinion, especially with Arsenal dropping points and City not playing. I reckon another 18 points from the last 10 games will seal a top 4 place for us, although I feel this season you can guarantee nothing. A title challenge would be great, but we have to take one game at a time and focus on the next game. Away to the Mancs next, a win could put them to bed, a draw would even be good. Spurs are our biggest rivals for top 4, hopefully Cardiff can take a couple of points of them tomorrow. Here's hoping!
Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree - huge win.

That was probably our hardest away game this season after Chelsea and Arsenal. We were overrun for half an hour after we scored and could easily have lost the game right there.

Now we have a very manageable fixture list left. Very exciting next 8 weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2014 19:58:05
What a result!

For me I have to be honest and say I felt a draw would have been a good result and feared this was a game we may lose. I really hate it when we face Southampton because they press the opposition so well and that tends to create LFC errors, especially at the back.

After 50 minutes I feel we were lucky to be up 1-0 but was over the moon to see us drive this one home.

Not sure about anyone else but for me this was the most important game for us this season, with exception perhaps to Everton clash.

Not only does it lift us into an even better position but it will give us extra belief when we play, especially away from home, and considering we have a couple of big away matches coming up, the timing of this result could not have come at a better time.

Before this season started I predicted we would probably get 5th and at a hard push 4th. Since before christmas I have felt we would finish 3rd above the Arse and I think this is where we should finish and for me this is more than great! I am really happy with the team and espeicially Rodgers who I have liked from day one but who did take lots of stick from people at one time.
Just goes to show if you give a talented manager with insight time what can happen

WELL DONE BOYS!

I'm going to also have a bit of a moan, but I've been frustrated with it all season. A goal kick for us or possession from the arms of the keeper ALWAYS equals an immediate loss of possession and the oposing team coming right back at us. It gets to a point where Mingolet would be better to take a goal kick and kick the ball out for a corner. At least then we can defend it and counter attack. I'd like to watch the match again and see how many times we retained possession from the keeper.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yep, that has become very apparent over the course of this season. Simon has to work on his distribution and command his area with more authority than he has shown till now. I find it odd that we'd buy a keeper who seems so unconvincing with the ball given the system we play. Apart from that, his shot stopping ability is quite impressive - big save at 1-0 today.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2014 20:35:01
You have a point RedAce,

Unfortunately you have put this vision in my head of a goalkeeper taking a goal kick and tapping it out for a corner!
( its not often I laugh out loud while sitting on my own )

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes OP I always side on Miggers if only he had the distribution of Pepe, but then again he's young, a great stopper and he can only get better. He needs coaching on his distribution.

You would have to kick someone in the plums today or throw the head on them to get a free-kick.

That ref certainly took it to the next level when prompted by his superiors to let the game flow, which to be honest, it did!

That was a good English game of football that was.

Great result. I think they controlled the game, but we made the better chances. Coutinho has to work on his passing, and Henderson his shooting (yes I know he scored twice at the weekend). Nervy performance but it's the result that counts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Coutinho and Henderson need to work on their finishing. period!

Neither score enough goals when players in their positions should be.

Anyone else walking around the livingroom like Kevin Keegan, saying I'd really love us to win it, I'd love us to win it. Anyway, we'll really know we're in with a real chance when Morinho says in his next press conference that we're favourites for the premership title.

This is a huge, HUGE win! IMO the most important win so far! 3 goals for and a clean sheet! Borne out of teamwork, defending and counter-attack. Skrtel, Hendo and Allen were absolutely outstanding, but my MoTM has to be Suarez. Absolutely sublime. Full marks to Rodgers for the tactical switches in midfield and the substitutions. It's on, folks! Dare we dream!

I normally never agree to pay over the odds, but how good are Shaw and Lallana? Would love to see either of them in a Pool jersey. Great game to watch.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very good mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree.

Lallana killed us in the 1st half. A mistake from Pochettino to move him wide to make room for Rodriguez. I be the regrets that.

I think he is the type of player we should go for, I know he loves Southampton and has turned down moves before but, surely, we could have a go.

Shaw we end up at Chelsea I think. More chance of me signing for the reds I'm afraid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Those two are very good indeed.

Not so impressed by Gaston Ramirez - we dodged a bullet there. He's got talent, but not suited to the Premiership, gives the ball away cheaply if you harrass him (which I'm pleased to say we did). I thought his introduction was as significant in us taking control of the game as Sterling's.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree. I could not help but admire the quality of the two with the ball. No doubt the Saints will receive a good chunk of cash for these two.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana was constantly receiving the ball wide between our midfield and defence the first half and drifting in causing us all sorts of problems, couple that with Shaw's directness no wonder they caused us problems!

Very good players, but glad we were more compact in the second half, pretty much nullifying their effectiveness.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2014 19:30:52
Great team performance in the second half. And, significantly, some very good individual performances from a few of the players who have struggled recently - Johnson, Agger, Skrtl, Mignolet - kept us solid.

Played lads! Up to 2nd.

There is lot to moan about! The biggest cheer of the day came on 55mins when Coutinho came off.
His inability to make the simplest of passes is shocking!
It contributed to the worst first half passing display I have ever witnessed.
The footballing gods are smiling down upon us.
As a side note- when oh when will someone tell Henderson NOT to lean back when having a crack from 20 yards ( a compilation tape could be put together of him hoofing it out of the ground!)

Apart from that. I really am just as happy as you, honest!

Alright fellas, Liverpool fan from Southampton, first time posting here. Having read the posts you guys have made the past couple of weeks, I have a few things I wouldn't mind discussing with ya.

First half not great, Coutinho must be lying on his bed at home thinking it's Friday. Was v. surprised to see Sterling dropped for Allen as I thought Coutinho's recent performances warranted a short rest - Can't really see what Coutinho can do against a team like Soton. Sterling can't come on quickly enough.

Reading all the Skrtel (Not Skrtle!) and Agger hate recently and can't help but to think that, while Toure was the better option at the start of the season those two are our best option at the moment given their relationship after playing CB together for the last few seasons. They seem to be doing OK this game, Skrtel looks less panicky and Agger looking a bit more solid & composed like we're used to.

That said, this problem of our defence dropping deep is getting worse. Whose fault is it? It seems to have a knock on effect on the midfield making it more difficult for our guys to nip in there with potentially game winning (from a counter-attacking point of view) interceptions and tackles. Closing opponents down is one thing, but what use is it when you're not within reach in the first place? Opponents are given more space than our pressing game should be giving them.

Transfer policy next season. LB and CB definitely, a top quality goalscoring winger would be great, but hard to come by. Konoplyanka would be a decent signing in my opinion.

But why does everyone think we need a DM? We already have Lucas, who I don't think has had as bad a dip in form as everyone thinks - this is evident when he gets injured and everyone clamours for his return. Gerrard is being lined up as a potential 'Pirlo' - I'm not 100% convinced but we, as fans, can't influence these things, if it happens it happens. On top of that we have Hendo who can pretty much play anywhere in a midfield 3. Bear in mind we have Coady who maybe isn't performing to his potential just yet but is 21 now so will want first team football in the next couple of seasons. If we want a DM, he'll have to be a top top quality one to make any discernible difference, and I'm not sure we have the money if we want a top winger and CB as well. Which reminds me, what happened with Kyriakos Papadopoulos? We could have Mama & Papa in defence ;).

Anyway, please don't think I'm being negative, think we're in the best position to win the bloody thing than we have been for years and years. Manager doing fantastically and proving the doubters wrong. Strong youth system, players in form and a real sense of confidence now. Also, since I wrote this Sterling came on for Couts and we're 2-0 up! COYR!

The only thing Missing in the Southampton side is a manager like Klopp. He would take them to top 4, with those talents and academy.
We shouldn't fly to Ukraine and Spain or Italy, Should get some players from Southampton Instead.
llalana and Shneiderlin.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd disagree. Pocchettino is the reason that Southampton are punching above their weight and it's all about the way the play. There's desire in each and every one of their players and they're pretty damn driven to stay at the club as it stands. What they lack most is good finishing, something that I think Osvaldo was supposed to bring, but never did. A Sturridge in their team and their points tally would increase dramatically.

Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

What they miss is a quality striker. That was the difference between the two sides, as Chris says.

Eds 001 your right about Lovren he looks a real centre back quality

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought Johnson had a good game defensively today, he did well tracking and was aggressive and solid. His passing wasn't the most consistent its been but he did the basics well for me and his movement was okay.

So Arsenal lost today. At least we have a little room to work with now. Lose and it stays as it was (not looking at a title challenge), win and we go second. To be honest, as long as we don't lose I'll be happy. I genuinely believe this is the hardest game we'll play this season. Southampton at home are a fantastic team, and on our travels we have been lackluster in some games this season. I imagine they will be on top for the majority of the game and they will squeeze us high up the pitch, which could be our downfall in this game. I think Sterling would have been useful in this game, but then again with his pace to come off the bench against tired legs could be crucial. I think it will be close, and hopefully we will end the hoodoo just like we did with Stoke at the start of the season. I'm anticipating a frustrating game for us Reds, but I'm praying things go our way, although I wouldn't expect it to with our defence in particular. Bad feeling, but here's hoping!

Just watching the Arsenal game with my brother (he's a Gunner for all his sins) and iv'e been telling him for a while now the league winners, champions league qualifiers and hell even the teams relegated will be decided by the referees, sure the players play their part as do the manager but if a ref makes the call there's not much anyone can do about it. I hope the refs are just incompetent and the games moves too fast for them because the only alternative is that the 'mistakes' they make aren't be accident at all. I'll be pleasantly surprised just like every Liverpool fan if Mr Webb isn't in charge of the Liverpool Spuds game.

Edd001? Sturridge as good as rooney? Better?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't think Rooney is as good as he is made out to be by the media. He runs around a lot, but achieves little other than getting in RVP's way these days. Sturridge is far better.}

Rooney was very good when he was younger due mainly to his aggressiveness, but now he is no better than average - and has been for about 5 years now. If you take away his penalties, he hasn't scored many - without looking at the stats I would say no more than 10 a season for the past 5 years. Sturridge has much more skill and quality, along with more speed. Better goal scorer by miles. The only area that Rooney beats Sturridge is his resistance to injury IMO.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't have thought it would lose money, but I don't actually know for sure. I very much doubt it will be a long term loss, as the online streaming rights will be related to LFCTV. They will use the cameras etc, presenters and so on, so that will bring in substantial income in years to come.}

01 Mar 2014 14:06:58
Hi Eds 1 & 2, I hope you're both well and enjoying the weekend so far. I have a couple of questions for you please. Firstly, do you think a team will dominate the English League over the next decade as much as Liverpool did in the 80's and Man U in the 00's?

Secondly, do you think that a club and manager that have a philosophy of playing like BR, Martinez and Guardiloa etc. and that they try to establish and embed throughout all levels of a club for continuity over years to come, can stand the test of time and compete with other clubs that spend substantially more money each year and maybe swap managers more often and buy based on each new manager's opinion?

Completely hypothetical but an interesting one to ponder methinks.

Thanks for your time and views as always.

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no and yes. No, I can't see any one team winning more often than not, though City and Chelsea will no doubt always be in the mix. And yes, by establishing a philosophy throughout the club, you can reduce the need to spend on players, by producing them. It will mean lean years, as well as strong years, as you have to accept losing some players you want to keep, due to money being waved under their nose. But it is possible for a club to continue to compete on a regular basis.}

I really hope we don't see any dominace, the football has been fantastic this year with United out of sight for a change.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed, appreciated. I think the next few years will be interesting. Chelsea have great players and financial backing, as do City but I can't really see either keeping the same manager for more than 3 seasons. I live what our owners and manager are doing for our club and think we'll really be able to challenge for the next few years even if not every year. Arsenal have always been a class act and I can't see Manchester United doing that badly for that many years although it would be a little nice to see :-)

01 Mar 2014 13:35:56
Becoz they play for UTD. If I am not being Biased, Johnson would also not make it to the squad. Players at big clubs do have this advantages.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree both are garbage but who would you replace them with? They at least have big game experience and that's the only reason I can see why they are there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the hard work as always eds, much appreciated!

Do you know why Ibe was loaned out? Was it because he didn't impress enough to get more gametime?
In preseason he featured in every game (if I remember correctly), so I think it is odd that he didn't got the chance to prove himself in PL.

He has the same age as Sterling had last year, but he didn't go out on loan.
It is because Sterling is higher valued at the club than Ibe?

I really hope you can answer my two/three questions. Thanks in advance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he just needed to play, he was unlikely to get many games with us, as we are not really in a position to just stick youngsters on for experience in matches. We are currently too in need of results.}

A Chelsea fan, a Liverpool fan and a Man u fan were all in Saudi Arabia, sharing a smuggled crate of booze. All of a sudden the Saudi police rushed in and arrested them. The mere possession of alcohol is a severe offence in Saudi Arabia, so for the terrible crime of actually being caught consuming the booze, they were sentenced to death!

However, after many months and with the help of very good lawyers, they were able to successfully appeal their sentence down to life imprisonment. By a stroke of luck, it was a Saudi national holiday the day their trial finished, and the extremely benevolent Sheikh decided they could be released after receiving just 20 lashes each of the whip. As they were preparing for their punishment, the Sheikh suddenly said: "It's my first wife's birthday today, and she has asked me to allow each of you one wish before your whipping."

The Chelsea fan was first in line (he had drunk the least), so he thought about this for a while and then said: "Please tie a pillow to my back." This was done, but the pillow only lasted 10 lashes before the whip went through. The Chelsea fan had to be carried away bleeding and crying with pain when the punishment was done.

The Manc was next up and after watching the scene, said:" Please fix two pillows on my back, under my shirt" But even two pillows & 1 shirt could only take 15 lashes before the whip went through again.

The Scouser was the last one up (he had finished off the crate), but before he could say anything, the Sheikh turned to him and said: "You are from a most beautiful part of the world, your city has some of the best bars, nightclubs and restaurants in Europe, your city and football team is known throughout the world. For this, you may have two wishes!" "Cheers mate, your Most Royal and Merciful Highness", The Scouser replies. "In recognition of your kindness, my first wish is that you give me not 20, but 100 lashes."

"Not only are you an honourable, handsome and powerful man, you are also very brave." The Sheik says with an admiring look on his face. "If 100 lashes is what you desire, then so be it. And your second wish? What is it to be?" the Sheikh asks.

"Please tie the Manc to my back."

Lads is it just me that feels the jersey we wear makes a difference?! Not that I feel it should, its just on performances I've seen this season, we play differently depending on the jersey we wear! For example when we play in our home jersey we usually dominate the game and score a few goals. In our white away jersey we seem to always be lacking something, be it pace or just the final ball. And with our black, purple and white third kit, we seem to be able to win games that are usually tough (Sunderland and Stoke away). Maybe it's just a coincidence, but from what I've seen this season, it makes a difference! So considering Southampton will be wearing red at home, I'm hoping we wear the third kit, because this is a game we must win if we want a comfort zone going into games against the likes of Spurs, City and Chelsea.

I think it will end 1-1, not being pessimistic, but that's just genuinely what I think the result will be. Could go either way this one, if we play to our typical standards this season I think we'll win, if not it could be a long game. Sturridge and Fonte to score. I won't be surprised if there's a controversial decision or two in there either!
Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it's probably more about familiarity of the playing surface and the fact that the home support is unbelivable. It's a wall of sound for the opposition.

Good luck to the lads for the game.

Suarez can walk over the 70% part.

Just seen some videos of Firminho, who we have been linked with lately. Seems very much like a Rodgers front line player, quick, lively, skilful and got a goal or two in him. At £12m surely a good punt, perhaps offering better value than Konoplyanka.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is a completely different style of player to Konoplyanka.}

I wouldn't say it would be better value for money mate, having watched the Bundesliga this season and watched Kono on a good few occasions (made the schoolboy error of starting watching the Ukrainian league purely for players such as Kono and Mkhitaryan) I think Kono would be by far the better purchase. He has unbelievable pace, his accuracy in front of goal is lethal and he plays for the badge, he is exactly what we need. Kono and Sterling on the wings would be devastating. Although tbf 17 goals this season for Firmino is a great number. Either way I'd be happy, but having noted the general feeling of positivity and togetherness in the dressing room that Rodgers has spoke about, I think Kono would be a very good fit for that.

Question for anyone.
A lot been mentioned about the co-eficient meaning we may lose a champions league place in the future.
My question is why? All 4 english teams teams qualified from the group stages this year. We have had 3 English teams win the competition in the last 10 yrs.
I would have thought that would mean we are doing fairly well when compared to the German, Italian, French and Spanish leagues?
Can anyone enlighten my tiny mind:) Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The calculation includes all English teams and how they have performed in Europe over the past five years - not just the top four from this year. Take Liverpool as an example, 2009/2010 was the last time that Liverpool played in the Champions League and gained any significant points. At the start of next season those points drop off the scorecard and will no longer contribute to the co-efficient for England. It will also drop Liverpool in to the 50s in terms of team ranking. Additionally, the same is true of Fulham who reached the Europa League final that year - those points also drop out of the calculation. Hopefully that makes matters clearer.}

Thanks Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, how much of a difference would an extra team from the EL Winners make to a country's co-efficient?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It depends how they perform. We will kill this thread shortly as it is attracting those with pitiful math skills and various other issues.}

Just looking for people's opinions here.

How do you rate Sturridge right now compared to Torres in his Liverpool prime?

I recently seen a picture basically showing that Sturridge currently has 4 more goals and 5 more assists after 33 games this season than Torres did after 33 games in his best season at Liverpool.

(Sorry if something similar has already been posted)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He offers far more than torres and Daniel would be appreciated far more if it weren't for a certain luis suarez. Nonetheless his allround game is better, touch, vision, speed of thught, runs etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres was a fantastic striker in his prime. I bet he wishes he had hung around.
Sturridge. What can I say, the boys an absolute gem. And statistically has the edge on what Torres achieved.

For me Torres was beautiful to watch. He had speed power and finesse in abundance. Torres didn't have the support that Sturridge has in the side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres seemed to take his chances more than Sturridge, but Sturridge gets more chances.

Torres was a supreme talent at Liverpool, he had one of the the midfield behind him and Gerrard with him. Nevertheless, Most of his goals were simply brilliant.
Sturridge is the best natural finisher of the game currently in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Someone once said to me that Torres was never a great footballer, but he was a great finisher. I think that sums it up. He never offered anything when we weren't in possession at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Torres i'm his prime was better, he scored goals on his own, Suarez created a lot for sturridge! Probably equal pace and strength, but Torres used to glide past defenders liek they weren't there, and with brilliant finishing! People say he didn't offer much off the ball, but that sam this role, we had 10 others for that

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez has 3 assists to Sturridge, likewise Sturridge has 3 assists to Suarez.

Is there ever any truth in what is written on fotballdirectnews . com?

Barca inn for Suarez, willing to switch either Pedro or Sanchez plus cash.

Monaco in for Reina in the summer.

Napoli and Tottenham in for Cissokho.

Rodgers hoping for Pato in the summer.

Liverpool favorites to sign Luke Shaw in the summer.

Liverpool trying to sign Eriksen from Tottenham.

Rodgers wants Vermaelen and Verthongen.

Everything pretty much sounds like bullsh*t to me, but hey, some of it would be pretty awesome. Are they reliable at all eds? Or is it all just to get someone to read their site?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We can't afford Luke Shaw.
I Could see Reina going to Monaco - would not be the weirdest thing to ever happen.
They can keep Eriksen - he is average.
I'm better than Pato - Quicker and less injury prone too.
Dunno about Cissokho really.
Vermaelen and Vertonghen? Are you actually bonkers mate, 4 left footed centrebacks? could cause WW3

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be very surprised at any of those coming to fruition. Maybe Reina to Monaco if they don't sign Valdes.

Agree0 Disagree0

I read this morning Chelsea are preparing a £32 mill bid for Sturridge. That's how much rubbish there is around out there at the minute.
I cannot see him leaving even if we don't secure CL. The guy loves the club.
I think the papers are getting a little scared at how close we are in the title race and are trying to upset the mood in the dressing room.
Forget all the nonsense. let's just concentrate on the up and coming games and let BR and his staff deal with summer transfers.
Come on you reds. let's have the points today.
KEN. Get those lucky pants out!

Not exactly Liverpool related but I've heard Ed001 is a cobblers fan and wanted to know what he thinks of the season so far and if he thinks Northampton can survive

Thanks

{Ed001's Note - I think you must have misheard when someone said 'he talks cobblers that Ed001' mate.}

ED001 a cobblers fan? Blasphemy!

Ed001

Id like to ask you a favour if I may, Any reds welcome to add there input also.

Id like to ask you about Danny ings, If he's a good player, Good enough for Liverpool, What type of forward is he and is he simiplar to any striker in any top league at the moment.

I understand if you don't have time to do this or don't know a lot about him, but thanks for your efforts anyways

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced he is good enough, he reminds me of Rhodes, good but not quite good enough. Having said that, he is still young enough to be good enough in the future. He has pace, unlike Rhodes, which is always a plus in a forward. I think he will be like Jay Rodriguez, who was also at Burnley, where he will go to the Prem and do well, but not really tear it up. In fact, he will probably also join Southampton, as he supports them and they are interested. He has had a few injuries, which have affected his progress, he needs to play regularly now, I just don't think joining us would be good for him or us.}
