Has anyone watched alot of Celtic games this season, if so can you please share a quantifiable review of Celtics PFA award winning left back namley 'Izaguirre'? Does he possess the characteristics required to have a good chance of being a success in the EPL and is his really one of the best left backs in world football??

- -

Yea Emilio Izaguirre has been probably the best player in the SPL this season, but its not an amazing achievement. Scottish football this year has been a year to forget for many for a number of reasons, the league has been drained of quality. But I'm glad he's getting his just reward, he's been top draw.

Found from outta nowhere last yr from south america for about 600k, find of the season imo including the premier league. Could he be a success in the EPL?, absolutely he's a real talent, not sure about world football though. I'd say he's good enough for the pool. Think Ed007's a Celtic fan, I think he'd agree with me.

A couple of months ago there were a lot of rumours linking us (LFC) and Manchester United with this player, he is quite good and have the strength needed to make it in the PL.
Is he one of the best left backs in world football?? Maybe ? he is good enough to be in the PL playing for a top team.

'I completely agree with you mate but part of me just wants us to finish ahead of those spud fool's.'

I'm with you there, one season in the champions league at they getting all high and mighty. I was laughing at Crouch giving it 'this spurs team is better than the liverpool team that got beat in the final' blah blah and they drink it all up. The number of Spurs fans I've heard laughing at us this season has done my head in, 'mid-table this, ' old news that'. They'll be begging for Europa league football in two seasons.

I know it's pointless saying, but if we'd have beaten City away then we'd be 1 point off 4th place (albeit with City having a game in hand.)

Therefore, using a ouija board, a piece of string and some scientific deduction. .I've worked out, if (when) we don't get 4th. .It's all Mascherano's fault! ! ;-)

'So yeah Spearing has improved alot quicker than Lucas but Lucas had to jump so many hurdles to get to were he is today. I prefer Lucas as a player but Chris prefers Spearing but that's his opinion and im happy to support whoever plays'

Of course we all have our own preferances, but comparing four weeks to four years is a pure insult to Lucas and anyone claiming otherwise is not being straight.

- - - - - -
are you mad? it took jay how many years to improve; uno hes 22 right about now yeah & he's been with us since at the accademy (1997). he singed a professional contract in 2008 and only starting now (2011; due to gerrard being gone) but yh he has improved alot however i still think hes a good sqaud player to have around.

Just Europe is annoying as we have to play on a Thursday then Sunday and I feel that we would have a better chance of challenging for the league if we don't get in to Europe. . how much money does the Europa league generate for us? Open to anyone as well

i think its the perfect way to introduce young talents into first team football, we have johnson on the right so flanno and kelly will get more games, ayala, wilson, mavinga, pacheco, jonjo, sterling, pos suso, ngoo etcc and ince, eccleston, bruna, amoo(if kept) along with senior players fighting for first team football. but i wouldn't like liverpool to take it tooo serious and use the players like gerrard (who should be getting less games outside of the prem- we need to save them)

I think Roy was manager during a very crucial, critical time in Liverpool's history. We looked almost certain to be damned and doomed with those cowboys. Good to see him doing great with West Brom. He is a good manager, we should all agree. YNWA Roy!

young, quality left back. . as in Jack Robinson? I'd rather buy a solid, fairly cheap left back that would fill the gap for the next 3-5 years until young Jack broke into the first team, speaking of thinking wrong!

If Enrique had the minerals for the next step up to a club like Liverpool, he would've gone about the game with alot more composure today and tried to keep things simple. Instead he attempted a couple of audacious passes and dribbles/ runs that didn't come off suggesting to me a potential liability. Furthermore, Newcastles Utd's diet adviser should be shown his cards, 70% of their teams overweight including Enrique, Nolans backsides bigger than Heather Trotts. I know kenny has connections with Newcastle but lets leave them be, we've had their jewel in the crown.

Blair Mayne YNWA

For the money being quoted Enrique is hugely over priced. Not seen enough of Cissoko recently, but he looked very impressive when at Porto. Coentrao can't defend. Same for Clichy as well. Warnock would be squad player. With Johnson, Fabio and Robinson maybe we could save a few quid.

At the moment I'd rather spend elsewhere, a couple of wingers would be useful.

I honestly thought Enrique did quite well today. He looked comfortable taking the ball out of the defence.

It has to be Aly Cissokho or Jeremy Mathieu for me.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

He was useless, tried a cross pass in the first half that should hav resulted in a Liverpool goal and gave the ball away on countless occasions. Doesn't possess any significant pace and tends o run into trouble. Not for me pal, I'd take Jack Robinson over him all day long.

I know the fella that scouted Enrique for Newcastle and he really did rate him as a very solid left back. However, he did comment that the top clubs in both Spain and England were not particularly taken with him.

The lad was also crapping himself cos it took him several months to find his form for Newcastle.

IMO he has a reasonable season but is little better than we currently have.

I have been impressed with Bartons delivery this season but feel he is ten seconds away from a Mike Tyson moment.

Think we have plundered the talent from the Geordies.

King Kenny has done an amazing job and anybody who doubts him is not a Liverpool fan. We would be putting up a serious title challenge if it wasn't for Woy. This team looks good enough to do it next season if we have a strong start, but there should be improvements because the owners look keen to spend.

For me if we improve the squad with the number of players that are being mentioned (5 - 8) and the way the youngsters are coming through and performing I think the Europa league would be a very realistic trophy for next season, not everyones cup of tea but winning the europa league with a top 4 finish (im backing us to win the league) and we could attract any player in the world. Be a good chance for the players/ youngsters who aren't playing in the league to get a run out as much as possible.
Geoff {Ed005's Note - That was my thought. Use the Europa League as a chance to play some of the younger players and get experience.}

Eds how come on every question asking you on the chances of them joining you put 0, 1, 2 or 3. Anyway the truth is nobody knows who will join Liverpool in the summer other than Dalglish & Comolli, Kenny actually said some of the names that we're linked with in the papers, Dalglish doesn't even know of.

{Ed002's Note - This is the liklihood of players joining - some players are of interest to the club and some either aren't of interest, aren't available or would not move to the club. It is not rocket science to know that Neymar is not moving to Liverpool. But there is a chance that Sissoka, for example, will be making the move.}

Why oh why do people keep mentioning the same players asking for eds to comment. . .i am sure most people use this site often enough to continually read the same names. Most of the names to we really don't stand a chance getting until we can prove we are capable of challenging for all honurs. I expect us to make a few signings only as the players have a new lease of life under a new managment system. Lucas has developed and playing well, also the youth coming through is spot on so why do we need big signings?

. . . . . .

I'm with you on bringing through the youth players but I think we do need 1or2 big signings.
Top teams need to have world class players in there squads.

LAVERS

- - - - - - - - -

I agree a few choice signings, maybe such as Payet/ Downing/ Jarvis for one wing and Adam Johnson for the other if Man city woud sell to us. I would also like Micah Richards and i would be happy with that.

My team would consist of

Reina

Kelly Richards Carragher Robinson

Gerrard Meireles
Johnson Downing

Carroll Suarez

New young Keeper
Ayala
Wilson
Shelvey
Spearing
Sterling

'So yeah Spearing has improved alot quicker than Lucas but Lucas had to jump so many hurdles to get to were he is today. I prefer Lucas as a player but Chris prefers Spearing but that's his opinion and im happy to support whoever plays'

Of course we all have our own preferances, but comparing four weeks to four years is a pure insult to Lucas and anyone claiming otherwise is not being straight.

Do we want to be be in the Europa Cup or do we finish 6th ?

i know its not cl but wouldn't help attract some players, we also can use it to blood young player and give fringe players ago.
We manage to stay in the top 4 for years playing cl so why not europa cup.

Hi eds,
Facts that makes me belive that we will challenge for Honours next time around are listed below
We will be under King Kenny who has brought our last Title when he was Incharge last time around.
We have beaten almost all the premier League teams in this season.
We have such a poor start in History and we come back almost to a Champions League spot.
We almost find the Replacement for Alonso in the form of Lucas, who is better than Nasty Mascherano, who could only tackle and don't know what to do after winning a Tackle.
We had kept many number of Clean sheets in second half of the Season which is an amazing Sign.
We have been banging the Goals.
We better the last season place of 7th atleast by 2 places even the Departure of Star Players (FOLKS taughts that way) like Mascherano and Fernando Traitor.
We hasn't have our Captain fantastic for almost half of the Season and assume he is fit for next season and with good defensive Cover behind him in the form of Lucas, he will be as dangerous as he was in the Period where Alonso was at Anfield.
We may force players out next season and there is no chance players seeking Transfer next season and we will be builting on this Team for next season.
And, finally we have the backing of Owners who were intelligent enough and has the reputation of success after a long period of Time with Boston Red Socks. INDIAN RED

About the game today!

I thought it was a boring, long, dragging game and plenty of mistakes by bOth teams. Newcastle are dire and they should of appointed O'neil as manager.
Plus points . . We passed the ball around like it was back in the 80s at times. Won 3.0 and I think we may finish 5th. Lucas had a great game.
Now if Dalglish can get results with an average squad then I can't wait till next season when he brings in his type of players

01 May 2011 18:34:02
So since Kenny took over the stats say we have amassed on average the points that would be challenging for the title and that is with a poor team according to many neutrals views.So to be honest with a few good signings in the summer i honestly think Liverpool are back and will be aiming for the title next season. My take on the game today:

Flanagan; that's an experience for him; didn't handle the Argentine international that well but great management by Kenny - kept him on moved him and let him get back in the game (that will do his confidence really well); saying that if I was Pardew I would've moved him to the right hand side.

Syktel, I think he was poor today; but it's still a clean sheet (it was a pen though near the end).

Spearing; very good performance again; showing that we really only need 1 midfielder in the summer (to replace Poulsen).

Lucas; again very good game; those who don't think so should watch the game again and look at how much closing down Spearing and him do as well as putting in important tackles.

Suarez; got to be worth a punt on Player of the year next year? Wins headers; moves the ball really well and technically looks amazing; great vision to make that run for his goal so many people would've given up.

Kuyt; he's like marmite to me; started off hitting the ball to far in front and losing possession; scores a pen and a great ball for Suarez's goal.

Shelvey; I was impressed with the small contribution he had to make; showed a touch of pace and also a range of passing in an unfamiliar position.

Carra; congrats at becoming 2nd highest appearences and also clever getting involved with the ref when Flanagan could've walked; u can't buy that experience.

If you asked me I'd like 5 players this summer (all should be considered 1st teamers/ starters):

LB
CDM
RW
LW
Striker

I really believe that's all we need; a number of players will have to leave but i don't see these as players who normally start.

Also a question for the Ed's - Do you rate Coady? I'm not knocking him and he is also young but I'm not convinced (yet).

Thanks

Hoola {Ed001's Note - at youth level he has excelled, I rate him highly.}

Lucas has developed and playing well, als he youth coming through is spot on so why do we need big signings?

. . . . . .

I'm with you on bringing through the youth players but I think we do need 1or2 big signings.

{Ed006's Note - Not heard anything on this, he would be a class signing on a free though!}

Trust me, he wouldn't, I used to work for BWFC, until recent job change, and got to unfortunately see a lot of Elmander, he's a shocker, only bucked up as he entered last year of his contract, but hasn't exactly carried on scoring either! Not LFC standard if we want to challenge for honours. Rather sign Iker Muniain, who, apparently, we have scouted numerous times. Now he is a talented lad. Anyone else heard anything about this link? 'Why are people giving Chris in Tamworth are hard time, all he said that people give Lucas too much credit and that he feels that spearing had played better. He never said that Lucas was a bad player, is he not entitled to his own opinion'

He said Spearing has improved more in four weeks than Lucas has in fours years. How is that not calling Lucas a bad player?

because players improve at differant rates;

Lucas- was terrible because we were playing him wrong as an AM it wasn't until we played him as a DM that he grew into the player he is. (don't forget he had to used to english football compared to Brazilian)

Spearing- we always knew he was a DM and he was used to the English style of football and its physicality and all he needed was some game time.

So yeah Spearing has improved alot quicker than Lucas but Lucas had to jump so many hurdles to get to were he is today. I prefer Lucas as a player but Chris prefers Spearing but that's his opinion and im happy to support whoever plays - Mc

I seen someone write earlier that Lucas was an attacking player in his early days.
So can anyone honestly think Lucas could be an attacking player for us?
Lucas has improved a hell of a lot over the past season or 2, if there's an defensive midfielder out there , that tackles well and can pass to a similar standard to alonso then that is what id rather have.

Whats the likelihood of us signing Coentrao, Lavezzi, Dann, Cissoko and Hulk??

apparently Coentrao's agent been talking him up again but Benfica are looking at upwards of 20 million.

While Hulk looks almost certain to leave Porto but are also looking at 20 million

Im just hopeful that Lavezzi moves to liverpool but apparently his club have come out and said he's not for sale

It's going to be hard to encourage and lure established players into join Liverpool because they are all at stable clubs

Can we put this slagging of LFC players to bed please. We support the club and team whenever. I too ghave been disappointed with the performances of some players in the last few years including Lucas and Maxi BUT people should consider the tactics and constraints that they are asked to play under. Take for example Sandro for the spuds yesterday. . .if he had followed 'arry's orders and not staryed up field a bit he would never have scored that blinder. I really feel that our squad has suffered from this in the last few years and KK has taken the shackles off a bit. Because of that we are seeing the best of some of our players that have been slagged off by some "fans" for ages. I give you Dirk as an example. Lovely fella, always time for the fans, works his socks off, gives money to charity but does not score enough goals. . . . .where are the Dirk slaggers now? He seems to be scoring for fun even if he does miss a few.

Let's give it a rest guys and gals and support the team and Kenny. At this rate we might make Europe next year after all!

"My debut was emotional and beautiful. As a young kid, especially from Holland, you watch English football and I remember Liverpool with Ian Rush and all those players.

This guy is awsome and I am sure he will become better than Mascareno in the near future. I am seeing glorious days for LFC! Next year the title will be ours I am sure! !

"Give me a break mate Lucas has been criticised over the past few seasons cos he's been dire. This season I haven't been able to criticise cos he's improved massively. I don't hear you giving Spearing any credit, maybe you don't rate him. I don't hear you calling for Kuyt to get more credit, maybe this means you don't rate him either. How about Maxi? Do I need to continue? I bet you've been slaughtering him. My post was less about being negative to Lucas and more about trying to praise Spearing"

I think Spearing has been getting loads of credit and it's justified, but Lucas has had more stick than anyone for the past four years so I believe he deserves a bit of criedit for coming through and finally putting together a run of form. To turn a post giving Lucas credit into a stick to beat him in favour of Spearing seems a bit crap to me. How about you just write a post complimenting Spearing as opposed to causing this row on a day when both players played well and we won 3-0?

(And as for slaughtering our own players, I've never come on here and criticised any of our own. Never. But BY the way you unnecessarily belittled Lucas today I think maybe you cannot say the same.)

I just wish everyone would keep things in perspective, he's looked good in a poor side and in recent weeks when we have looked a lot better side then Spearing has played even better. I just believe that Lucas must continue to improve because I don't feel he's good enough yet, and I'm hopeful that he will. Some of you just think Lucas must be made MOTM every week regardless as to who else plays well. What is all that about?'

Give me a break mate, Lucas has had nothing but pure sh*t from the majority of you for four years, so don't deny him the little bit of credit he's finally getting. Here is a question for ya. How good is this team now? Basically if we entered a season with this squad with King Kenny as manager how good would we be?

Here are the records of the top 6 sides since Kenny took over on January 8th:

Chelsea 11-2-1, 35 pts
Liverpool 9-3-3, 30 pts
United 9-2-3, 29 pts
Arsenal 7-6-1, 27 pts
Spurs 4-7-2, 19 pts
City 5-2-4, 17 pts

Based on this we have been just about as good as anyone since Kenny took over. And considering that we've done tremendously well against the other top sides with wins over Chelsea, United and City and a draw to Arsenal it seems like we are in pretty good shape.

That doesn't mean we don't need signings in the summer but maybe we are closer to contending for the league than many people seem to think.

I've recently come around to thinking I'd rather chelsea win the league - it's not as if Torres can claim any credit if they do win it. Just a thought but surely if the man was to get the job on a permanant basis he would have it by now?? Any ideas if there is already someone else lined up on a permanant basis?

Mark the red {Ed002's Note - There is, I am sure, no hold up Mark. He is contracted until the end of the season and I am sure if he wants the job permanently and a deal can be reached then it will be his. We know talks started a while ago but I suspect nobody wishes to get distracted by contract talks whilst the season is still playing out the final few games.}

Great game today, a good effort by all the lads. It was fairly even in the first half, but Newcastle were completely outclassed in the second period.
Carroll was relatively anonymous in the time he was on, which was a bit of a let-down. Suarez; as lively as usual, albeit a bit wasteful at times. Kuyt was solid and you could see what his recent purple patch has done for his confidence.

Anyway, I'm relieved we've finally moved into fifth. Believe me, I'm no fan of Europa League football, but if it means I can rub it in the noses of all the Spuds I know (who acted all superior and haughty during the Owl's tenure) and I can collect my winnings at the bookies come the end of May (I placed a bet on us to finish fifth in August - imagine what I was thinking to myself by December!) then so be it.
I also read that getting into Europe ensures that we stay in the top 10 of the UEFA co-efficient rankings so that once we get back in the CL we'll be seeded and avoid all the big teams.

So a good day, all in all. Hopefully the Mancs will lose today and open up the opportunity for Chelsea to come storming in and rob them of their precious title.

I think we all agree it was a poor 1st half. But what ever Kenny said at half time has worked. And yet another great decision by Kenny to move Flanagan onto the left and bring Johnson onto the right. Because Guttieriz (spelling) was giving Flanagan a bit of a rough time. Which is nothing to be ashamed about because Guttieriz (spelling) is a regular Argentina player and seasoned international.

Also people keep going on about Tiote and how good he is (which i agree) but today young Jay again showed how much he has progressed under Kenny. Jay in my opinion has been our best player in recent weeks and today made Tiote look like a part timer. And has anyone else noticed how good Glen's defending has got, left back or right back?

I know people were saying they wouldn't like for us to finish 5th. I didn't think we could finish 5th but if we can we should be thankful. Because that's an extra 15-20 mill in the coffers (including sponsership). Also it will make us more attractive to players that we are going for.

Like i said i thought we were going to finish 6th (still could) but could any of us believe we could finish 5th by the end of October?

I think we are giving Newcastle too much space, not closing down quick enough, al ot of their attacks are focused from the left wing by soto look alike. Think kk should replace Flanagan(i can see him being snet off, soto look alike playing for it), move JC to left back.

Bring Suarez into the game more, stop going wide on attacks! ! play through the middle!

@Ed002

Thanks, mate, that was enlightening.
It's just that I, I don't share the same optimism with most regarding the summer.
Relatively, we are not that much of an attraction.
I feel that whether or not we get Sissoko, M'Vila, Sakho, Rolando etc will more than likely depend on how strong our rivals' interest is in them than anything Comolli will say in trying to sway them (refer to Suarez).

Let's be realistic here, people. Right now how many people see Rolando rejecting United for us; M'Vila rejecting Chelsea for us; Sakho choosing us over Arsenal and Sissoko snubbing Milan for us?
It's difficult to see that happening. The damage of the past 18 months has seen to that.

18 months ago players would've bagged to join this club.
Look, of course, I don't know all the factors that go into the decision-making process of a player, but wages, competitive-ability and prestige/ history are the three most important.

Teams attract players through one or more of these elements (City-mostly wages; Milan-prestige/ prestige; Madrid-all).
What we can offer is prestige/ history and, to a lesser extent, competitive-ability (by this I mean being in a premier comp. like the CL and the title race and having the ability to compete well and possibly win).
City don't have the prestige/ history and didn't have that competitive-ability, but their wage offerings compensated for that.
We cannot offer anything like City.

And very few players give a rat's ass about history (you think Balotteli bothered about what we did in 87?).
Players want money.
They'll tell ya to shove yer history up yer butthole, geezer.

It's gonna be extremely difficult.
M'Vila, Sakho are brilliant players, the next generation of French sters who all have a pool of good clubs after them.
Comolli has his work cut out for him, we have our work cut out for us.

I don't want to dampen hopes. I don't doubt Dalglish and Comolli. I'm not a pessimist.
I'm just a naturally realistic bloke.
As difficult as it will, hopefully we'll do some great busness summer.

I'm pissed right now. Gonna try watch the game. . that's if I don't doze off.
Peace everybody.

JHBRed

"{Ed001's Note - to be honest the very fact that United fans believe that is what it refers to should be enough for you in my opinion, same as if something is believed to refer to Hillsborough I would expect other fans not to use it. But I will ask the United ed that explained it to me to post up some links when he gets a chance.}"

Apologies, you seem to have misunderstood, i was not asking for the purpose of deciding whether i was going to use "the M-word" again as i have never, nor would likely ever, have used it. However, i fear that the assertion that United fans as a whole believe the explanation currently doing the rounds to be true is a stretch. It appears some (seemingly often younger) fans, mainly on message boards, subscribe to some Man U/ M-word explanations as being solely based in derogatory chants regarding the Munich air disaster, but as a football fan i'd just like to know where the evidence for such weighty claims comes from as it paints many of our own fans (as well as those of the sport in general) in a poor light. I've been doing some reading and i can't find a shred of solid, bipartisan evidence for the theories, and even a couple of football writers, aged United supporters and old copy writers have poured scorn on the suppositions, so please don't assume my lack of belief is simply due to me being a callous individual wanting to use a mocking phrase or antagonise. I'm sorry, but with respect, i fear that by taking such a claim on face value you are lending credence to it and could in fact be further damaging the name of Liverpool fans as many will continue to use the term.

For the record, i in no way approve of the use of vile chants or jibes mocking the dead, but this appears more of an internet spread of misinformation than a genuine case of the former. I do however appreciate the efforts of the site to curb such behaviour and respect your right to make such a decision to censor posts. {Ed001's Note - nobody has ever accused the Liverpool fans of being the source of the chant or usage of the name. In fact it is attributed to the West Brom fans mostly. It is not because of the meaning we ascribe to it that I am trying to stop its usage on the site, but the meaning they ascribe to it. I don't want to go onto another site and wonder if something they say is meant as a dig at Hillsborough, nor the Ibrox disaster or the terrible incidents around Celtic boys club.}

Cheers
Dj {Ed002's Note - There has been interest in Muniain in the past, but I don't know of anything new. But it is plausible.}
Surely that would suggest that he isn't good enough for us, due to eduardo macia being our head scout and rafa being the manager. Those 2 always favoured a Spanish player when they were around. Or is it now a case of the price being right? {Ed001's Note - he is only young now, unlike a lot of other youngsters he wasn't tempted to move to England to turn pro early, he was wanted by a number of English clubs but not interested in the move.}

Hi Eds, just wondering where all these rumours about Brad Jones leavin came from? we've just let Dean Bouzanis go, and I havent seen Brad play this season, with Peter Gulacsi sitting as the no.2 keeper. we only signed him last summer so i don't know why he'd be off so quick! is it that he's not good enough (like bouzanis), he's too good for the bench and wants out (Dudek, Cavalieri) or is it an attitude problem and we want rid (Itandje)?

also, ilive in Southampton. have we had anyone watching Alex oxade-chamberlain recently? he must fit FSG's policy perfectly? {Ed001's Note - he is simply not good enough, that is why he is out on loan. From what I have been told we looked at him and sounded out if he was interested in the move but he said no.}

Morning Eds , I saw Brian Hall last week in the Bp garage on queens drive and was speaking to him about what it's been like since Kenny took over his words were a cloud had been lifted and everyone are back to normal with smiles on their faces , I then asked about the summer and FSG would they back us in the transfer Market , his words were they a business men but they know what it is going to take to take to put Liverpool amongst the elite and that they will back Kenny, So ed 002 I think you should be less negative about our club we are LFC and I know Rome was not built in a day and we haven't got champions league , But people are looking at LFC and it's going to be the place to be, WE Will go for the right players some world class , some will be brought in through the academy and some who will just work for the team it is strength in depth we need and a bit of tinkering with the first team and get rid of the demics , The Futures bright the futures Kenny Dalglish and LFC another thing I want to say a big thankyou to John Henry and Co cos where would we be without them ???? Bless ya loads

this is yet another stupid comment jumping on ed002's back, don't ask someone's opinion if you don't wanna hear the answer, the ed has never stated we won't buy anyone, infact he/ she has mentioned some very promising names such as sissoko, m'vila and payet amongst others. you just have to face facts that some players WILL NOT come however much we want them to, either because the club are not interested, the players club are not interested or indeed the player himself such as sanchez and neymar. When we've won the league and start dominating europe again then and only then do i think we have reason to say why can't we get all the best players in the world.

All this stuff about the use of the word Manure is rubbish. I will stop using it if it truly offends Man U fans on here in connection with the crash in Munich. BUT the song that your on about i know it. Am an older fan and we sang in ignorance right up until Hillsborough. After that i would never sing that song i learned my lesson as did many other reds. That song is insulting and disrespectful of the people who died.
BUT the term Manure is simply a take on the Man U thing and has been around since Shankly's days. It has absolutely no connection to the above song or to the Munich tragedy. The Man U editor is talking rubbish and playing this up. If it truly offends (which speaking to the very few mancs i know, and they say it doesn't) i will stop using it on this site. BUT i will use it everywhere else because it is simple banter, same as them lot singing you'll never get a job!

Please post as this was a genuine reply, and not written in anger or anything else negative.
Thanks {Ed002's Note - I think we would appreciate it if you could stop using it here. Thanks.}

can i just say i'm from manchester and have never ever heard of the term in question insulting united fans, just as arsenal are referred to as arse or city s**tty. it's just a phrase, we're the dirty scousers. it is simply banter thrown around at opposing fans.

Hi ed, I know it's been asked before, but would you be able to repost Red Lenins way of watching liverpool on google chrome please!

{Ed006's Note - I don't think I can do that but all you have to do is download Google Chrome. In the address bar type: Chrome Live Football, it should be the first link that comes up in the extensions gallery. Click install and you should be set to go. to watch the games you click on the small football icon on the top right of the browser and select 'Live Stream', this will then give you a list of all the games that you can watch there, click the game that you want and select a link. Hope this helps.}

Ed, is sissoko an attacking or defensive midfielder that camolli rates. Is he any good and is he better than m'villa? {Ed002's Note - M'Vila is a defensive midfielder - Sissoko is perhaps more like Gerrard. I think he is a very good player.}

TO CHALLENGE FOR THE TITLE!
We need a new WORLD CLASS left back,
We need two or three WORLD CLASS wingers,
We need a WORLD CLASS center midfielder,

DO WE NEED?
Ashly Young to fight for relegation,
Charlie Adam to fight for relegation,
Charles Nzogbia to fight for relegation,
Jose Enrique to get a top ten finish,
Sylvian Mervaeux to add another player to injury prone flop list,

There are much more young quality available in other leagues around the Europe for decent prices.

For the wing why not go for Payet, Dzsudzs k , Gervinho, Hazard, Willain, Georginio Wijnaldum, Mata.

For CM why not go for Moussa Sissoko, Ever Banega, Aturo Vidal, Nuri Sahin, Javi Martinez, Steven Defour, Lucas of Sao Paolo, Gaston Ramirez of Bologna.

For Left back why not go for Fabio Coentrao, Aly Cissoko or Vargas. ( we haven't had a good left back for many years now is the best time to get a perfect one no matter what is the price we now have cash )

ED what will you say really, ! !

Hi ed is it true that luis Suarez was quoted saying if Liverpool don't qualify for the CL next season he wants out? There are people still worrying wether if we will be able to sign top players for several reasons like:-
a) the budget
b) competition
I for one am completely relaxed in contrast because we've seen FSG willing to clear funds in cases like suarez and carroll, agreed it was the last day but they could have easily gone for someone cheaper or on loan. I am confident that the positions we need has and is being thoroughly looked through. When DC, KK and the like feel we need someone, funds will be made available.
Also, there is no way a bad season or 2 can ever take the glory of a team away. Say Aston Villa won the premier league for some reason, every top player won't be thinking, yee i fancy playing in a TOP team lol. Even after such a disappointing season, we've (KK) managed to almost steal tottenhams 5th space, players around the world and in the premier league can see this new insurgence.
Many too have not realised we do not need too much rebuilding. ed(s)??
RedSox69

{Ed002's Note - I am sure there will be funds available but the club is in transition still. Everyone is aware that there is a need for players to come in and certainly a need for others to move on. The likes of Aquilani, Jovanovic and Poulsen have no future with the club and are not going to be, generally, players picked for the first team unless there are injuries, suspensions etc.. These need to be replaced with players who the manager would be happy to pick because they are challenging for a place through their performance.}

Any news about Liverpool going after Mario Gomez again in the summer? he would be a great addition.

01 May 2011 09:29:07
Please could someone throw some light on the Bouzanis departure. When watching the lfctv in the past he was often commented on favourably. In addition ed do you feel that the funds we have are less likely to be spent on full backs now we have some able replacements and with spearing and cody available is there any point replacing Poulson.

{Ed002's Note - My understanding is that Bouzanis leaving was no more than agreement being reached that he did not have a future at Liverpool and the club being reasonable enough to allow him the opportunity to find another club as a free agent. This is pretty much standard practice with younger players who are unlikely to make the grade. As for spending money on positions where there is cover by youngsters, you need to be careful not to overplay the kids. There is clearly an excellent crop at Liverpool and I am sure that many will cut it at Liverpool or elsewhere, but at 16, 17 or 18 they need to be eased slowly in to the team and gain experience, possibly through a year on loan. There are of course exceptions, but the club will I am sure be looking to strengthen in areas where they see weakness or a lack of depth.}

Hi ed , just a thought ? We need a lb and martin olsson fots the bill perfectly ! I know hes been playin lw for a while but he started off as a lb ? Hes a top class player who is pretty young and has prem exp ? Is there any interest and how much would he cost ? Cheers Dan Dawson

{Ed002's Note - You are suffering from what is known as "MOTD Fever" to which Liverpool fans are most susceptible. You will be fine, but expect it to last until someone plays well live on Sky or ESPN when you will forget all about Martin Olsson.}

Ed 007 were you actually being serious about the 17 million Adam deal? I hope you're not. Do you think he's even worth it? Also, none of the Eds think there's a possibility of Pastore. Couldn't he be our big money signing? Would be a great replacement for Gerrard. Would like to see Kjaer, Martinez and Cavani as well. What do you think we should do?

{Ed002's Note - I assume Ed007 was joking. I am not sure Liverpool are planning a "big money" signing, but if Pastore is bought he will certainly be that. The going rate will be about £50M.}

Thanks {Ed002's Note - I think we would appreciate it if you could stop using it here. Thanks.}

Ed,

I take yor point that if even a small number of people believe the term to reference Munich then those who know of it should no longer use it, agreed. Do not think me ignorant or a yob, fans of our club should know better given our history! My problem with this claim is that their are thousands of fans who will continue to innocently use this term and the claim that it insults the dead is going to have them appear to be mindless savages when it is completely untrue that the term is even remotely an attack on the tragic events of munich. In short it concerns me that these unfounded claims will tarnish the reputation of great fans of Liverpool football club and that the endorsement of these unfounded claims by this site will only enhance the damage caused to the reputation of our fans.

Why do you guys even want sanchez. We need people in other positions alot more. I want a lb atleast 1 right and left winger to come to the club before we even talk about third striker. Whats the point in having another striker if we cannot get him the ball? Amoo, sterling and pacheco should all be ready to get so time next year. The way our acedemy players have stepped up this year with kelly, robinson, flanagan, why not give some of the young strikers a run out. We might just find another owen. {Ed001's Note - Sanchez is first and foremost a winger.}

01 May 2011 02:37:51
If we do go for a striker. Higuain would be my choice. He will be in the top 5 best strikers in the world. He is 23 and scored goals for fun last season.

Hi,

Re the use of the name Manure, there was A song originally sung by WBA fans about Munich referring to Duncan Edwards following the Munich tragedy however the name manure as a play on the name man utd was used prior to this and when fans say manure they are not insulting the Munich disaster in the slightest and it would be ridiculous for that to suggested, the terms is used in the same way as you'll never work again is by our rivals and is not used with malice by any lfc fan I have ever met or received as such by any united fan I've ever come across. To suggest that this term no longer be used as it is said to insult Munich is ridiculous and untrue!

Justice for the 96 {Ed005's Note - Regardless of whether the term is used to insult the Munich Disaster or not, the very fact that in cases it is used for this reason means that it simply should not be used at all.}

Ed on transfer funds, here's my thoughts. We didn't really have any net spend in Jan. we tried to spend 10-15 M more then but ran out of time. Take that 15M and add 30M (average summer spend for a big club) plus generated sales from current players. I think we can get 25M for our lot and maybe another 10-12M from Agger if they don't see him as durable. We may get an offer on Glen Johnson and I'd sell if and only if we got 15M+. Thats potentially 90-95M. Ayala comes back and joins Skittles, Carra and a new CB. Kelly and Flanno at RB. Robinson and Aurelio at LB. Midfielders: Gerrard, Lucas, Spearing, Meireles, Maxi, Dirk, Marveaux, New LW and RW. Strikers: Carroll, Saurez, Dirk(when needed), and a new ST.

Four new players needed and some youth brought up.
Loan out Shelvey, Pacheco and Wilson for 3 month stints

CB 15M max
LW 15M max
RW 15M max
ST 25M max
squad player x 2 12M max combined

Total spend 82M

Thats your 25 man squad. If you could get someone like Scott Dann for 8M then the funds goes towards the next need. What do you think ED {Ed001's Note - a lot definitely depends on who goes, but that does sound similar to what I foresee, a lot of outs.}

{Ed001's Note - Wenger has managed to keep Arsenal competitive while spending less, I have faith that Dalglish is a better manager than Wenger.}

What have Arsenal to show for this trophy wise? Not a lot!

Also add to the fact that the years they've not had anyone to compete with entry into the top 4 was a few years ago. Now there's 6 and more money then ever getting spent and it wouldn't surprise me to see Arsenal drop out of the top 4 next season. Now teams like City and us are knocking on the door, they're start to struggle. Also a lot of Arsenal's players are unhappy, Clichy, Nasri and Fabregas just to name 3.

Also not like they didn't try to sign players though, Reina and Subotic last year.

I'll set you a challenge Ed, using rough guesses for prices who would you buy, and you need to buy 2/ 3 wingers, left back and a back up striker. Also you could easily add a center back and a central midfielder into that as well. Eho would you get. I've tried thinking about it and it only works by buying players who are worth about 6-7 million and would are not good enough. 40 million to dispatch (including player sales). You don't need to post your thoughts but mentally try and do it whenever you get some free time. Its not possibly buying quality and quantity with that budget.

Didn't the red sox spend 180 million on 1 player few months hap? Shows where their priorities lay if they give us 25 million to do a whole squad and the red sox 180 million to sign 1 player.

Also if the players we have been linked with, we won't be able to sign them if we do have such limited funds. {Ed001's Note - mate I really don't have time to sit here and play footie manager sorry. But stop with the nonsense about how much they spend on the Red Sox, they are completely separate and that money is the entire length of a player's contract. When you look at how much a player that is on 100k a week, such as Gerrard, would cost in wages alone, then you have to add the transfer fee and the signing bonus to it. Plus baseball teams play every night of the week so bring in much more money.}

Feel the same way Ed? Or is it just me. {Ed001's Note - maybe I just have too much faith in Dalglish, but I trust him to get the right players to take the club in the right direction. I don't think we need to spend as much as everyone else seems to think, not if we spend our money wisely.}

So you have faith in Comolli and Daglish to spend less then our rivals (City, Chelsea, United) and for us to catch up to them?

I would like to share your faith but I can't see it. In life you pay for what you get. We sign cheaper players then we'd just fall behind, well that's my opinion.

I hope your wrong Ed in your values and spend 40-50 net million net. Especially with the few quality players we've been linked with, we couldn't afford them really if we were only going to spend 25 million net. Example, we've watched Porto, yet we couldn't sign any of their important players without spending our entire budget (excluding player sales) on just 1 player when we need 5-6 minimum.

I don't mean to be negative, but I just don't see it. I hope I set humble pie. {Ed001's Note - Wenger has managed to keep Arsenal competitive while spending less, I have faith that Dalglish is a better manager than Wenger.}

Evening all,

Just wanted to say I honestly never realised the term manure had any reference to Munich, I just thought it was a rhyme; man u / manure. I offer my sincere apologies for using the phrase in the past.

Also i want to say that I DON'T want lfc to sign Sanchez. All great teams are built on buying and developing talent rather than buying it ready made (real's galacticos are the exception). I'd far prefer us to pay £25 million for 3 players to improve the squad over all, who in future might be worth £50 million combined rather than £40 million on 1 player who might get injured/ not settle/ be an amazing flop.

Finally I've read all the Barton rumours and I can see the appeal of the player (not the man) but my view remains the same on all transfers. If kennys going to lead us into next season (and hopefully a few more after) then any player he signs I will support. I don't care that carra was corrupted by the spice boys years ago, that gerrard threw a punch, or that Suarez bit someone. If kenny says they're good enough then that's good enough for me.

I no its not the best where we are in the table. But it looks like chelsea have helped us out abit today lads. Win all our games and we get 5th place so we can attract better players in the window. Now transfers bains will never play for us never I hope and wish but it won't happen. Also I think we should put ay double bid in for blackpool players adam and philips young fast can beat most defenders with pure speed. Adam ay good squad player not first team for me and send shelvey on loan for a season. Also does any1 else like olson from blackburn think he also be a cheep good player for the left wing. I no these players I've said are not the best but better squad players we have then we can break the bank on players such as-lavezzi young and cissoko any forts thanks

01 May 2011 00:01:19
{Ed001's Note - depends how many we ship out though, I am expecting a lot of outs.}

I've looked through the squad, and I doubt we'll get much more then 20 million (if we're lucky). That include Aquliani, Degan, El Zar, Poulson, Konchesky, N'gog, Maxi, Cole, Jova.

Then you got to replace 1 or 2 of them plus get the first team players. 45 million (or around that) is fairly small in relation to 1. The positions and players we need to break into the top 4 2. In comparison to some of our rivals.

United look set to spend more then us and the don't need to invest. Add that to Chelsea splashing once again and City will always open the check book.

I trust the club but it just feels like we're doing things on the cheap, I don't expect us to do a City spend but I thought we could look slightly higher then the cheap option Enrique, Young, Adam. I just hope your wrong Ed lol, because I tried looking at players for the positions we need (2/ 3 wingers, left back, striker) and I couldn't find a cheap quality player for each position. Then add that to the fact a central midfielder and a central defender may be wanted too.

Feel the same way Ed? Or is it just me. {Ed001's Note - maybe I just have too much faith in Dalglish, but I trust him to get the right players to take the club in the right direction. I don't think we need to spend as much as everyone else seems to think, not if we spend our money wisely.}

Hi ed , what are our chances of getting in gary cahill and ashley young ? And what players are likely to leave anfield in the summer ? {Ed001's Note - I don't know on Cahill, I have no idea how much interest there is in him, I know we have watched Bolton play a fair bit, but I am completely unsure who we are watching. I would think it would be Lee myself, Dalglish likes players like him and Turan and the priority is width. As for Young, it will depend on who else is in for him, we were certainly close to getting him in January, but things change and he might prefer other offers in the summer. As for leaving, I think it is fairly obvious which players are struggling to get a game, those are the ones who will be sold or released.}
