Pau Scharnier WBA,what a prat calling Luis a diver, he should be moaning about his own teams crap tackling, if you aim at the ball instead of the man you may just not give away penalties

Liverpool team:

---------------------------Reina----------------------------Kelly-----------Coates------------Agger-----------Enrique
---------------------------Lucas------------------------------------------Gerrard---------------Adam--------------------------*de Jong------------*A.Johnson/Downing---------------------------Suarez-------------------------

Subs: Doni, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Henderson, Kuyt, Carroll

In this january: RF - *de Jong (ALT:R?©my, Payet, dos Santos, Muller, Mertens or Lavezzi); RWM/LWM - *Adam Johnson (ALT: Reus, Gaston Ram??rez, Marin or Hern?°ndez)

I think we need one forward in january and eds keep pointing at de Jong, so I think he would be KK:s first choice, although there are options. Then we need another winger and if Maxi leaves I believe Adam Johnson will be first choice and could be available if City gets a replacement.

In this summer: CB - Hummels (ALT: Rami, Subotic or Musacchio); AM - Eriksen (ALT: Gotze, Holtby, Wijnaldum or Lucas Moura); ST - Higua??n
(ALT: Soldado, Leandro Damiao, Rossi or Negredo)

If we get into Champions league then I really could see us getting great players as Hummels, Eriksen and Higua??n. Higua??n depends on what Mourinho and his Real does in these next two transfer windows (rumours about Neymar and what happened to Llorente from Bilbao). The options, if this can not be, for a new striker are good.

LFC for life

Thats the kind of width we need....lol

To all the unbelievers to my post about camolli chatting to wenger before the arsenal game tonight, im irish and watched the game on tv3 it deff showed them chatting

Two Frenchman having a chat...what of it??

And.... he was a scout at Arsenal before moving to Tottenham.

Richards

Comolli: 'How much do you want for Walcott' in french of course.

Comolli worked at Arsenal before he went to Tottenham.

I was lip reading what they were saying and Comolli clearly told Wenger a recipe for French Onion Soup. What could this mean?

Arsenal play a fixed match with Marseile.

I really like a jhonson to join but I think adel taabart is the flair we need with suarez. I only say this because without a doubt he has talent but his attitude needs addressing and kk is the man to do this. Just think what the opposition defenders will have to.think about with suarez attacking one way and adel the other way. These 2 type of players will cause any defence trouble when both on the pitch. What do people think plus eds

Gezza1982 {Ed001's Note - no, no, no, no, no!!! He is not good enough and would destroy any team spirit.}

Ed I agree with his attitude but we do have 3 bad mentality people signed like Andy Carroll, suarez, bellamy but kk has sorted there attitude out so could do the same with adel and not good enough he has brilliant talent just needs the guidence

Gezza1982 {Ed001's Note - totally different kind of attitude. Taarabt is a bad apple, someone who is hated by his team mates.}

LOL! I would use that same argument against signing A.Johnson, Ed001.

Jatt YNWA {Ed001's Note - Johnson gets on well with his team mates, he just drinks too much and doesn't work hard enough in training. Taarabt is a spoilt little brat who is hated by his team mates.}

It what you get with us northen lot we love a drink or 9 haha
jayblair89

Lol same where I come from but I do think taabart has brilliant talent just needs guidence. How old is he ed

Gezza1982 {Ed001's Note - 22.}

So a young bad Apple that can be pushed in the right direction like we all say about Andy carroll. Come on ed we are all young once and try show off . I'm now 29 but I did grow up around the 24 year mark that's just my point , with the right guidence it can happen and u can't fault his ability

Gezza1982 {Ed001's Note - totally different mate, trust me this lad's arrogance is way beyond being pushed in any direction.}

Gio dos santos for me. he proved how good he is at the world cup. him with de jong and sissoko

in jan i'd try to get giovani in on loan with option to buy also make a offer for luuk de jong.

in the summer sissoko

I haven't been overly impressed with him so far this season. Avg player in Epl.

Taarabt found his level in the hcampionship, he is not good enoguh for premier league though he thinks he is, failure at Spurs and only decent for QPR in lower league. His attitude is one of arrogance, Bellamy Carroll and Suarez are not arrogant and especially nowhere near the level of Taarabt. QPR shoudl have sold him when PSG were sniffing around.

And even if he wasn't a spoilt brat I still wouldn't have him no where near Liverpool! He's not good enough, if he was he'd be showing it with QPR. Championship player - simple as!

Hi Ed's,

Out of these four players, which one player is most likely to join LFC in the future based on previous and possibly current interest?

Mario Goetze, Christian Eriksen, Marko Marin or Erik Lamela.

I apologise if there has been no interest I am just curious to find out.

Thanks, El Pistolero. {Ed002's Note - None will join in the short term, sorry.}

I say give Suso, Sterling, Morgan and esp Silva some game time this season.

Erikson may be, as Suarez with us. a good Bid will change the club minds.

Erikson may be, as Suarez with us. a good Bid will change the club minds. {Ed002's Note - I doubt that January is an option for a move to Liverpool, but perhaps the summer.}

we all know myp2p.eu has been taken down but i have just learned through forums that they have relaunched under the new name of www.wiziwig.tv, its much better for free footie

IanLFC

I tried this a couple of weeks ago and wasn't impressed (compared to myp2p) there are better sites out there

Myk {Ed002's Note - So what are they? Help the people out.}

I disagree with you mate wiziwig is great! they starting to turn it back into myp2p if you know how to use it its brilliant bloodzeed with his HD games
jayblair89

Liveonlinefooty is the best for streaming football,u can now watch it on the iPhone and iPad,but they not taking any new members right now.it cost £6 for two months

Firstrowsports.tv/ has been excellent recently. It usually gives 5 or 6 links to a game from the usual online networks. myp2p was one of them last saturday. It loads fast and the feeds are clear and crisp.

Livescorehunter is the best one I've found

Second-half goals from Suso, Adam Morgan and Raheem Sterling did the damage as the young Reds made it two wins on the spin in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North.

I THINK WE MUST WATCH OUR YOUNG STAR RATHER THEN BUY FROM OTHER CLUB FOR THE FIRST TEAM. 2 STAR PLAYER WE NEED THATS ALL. HOPE TO SEE MORGAN AND RAHEEM PLAY FOR SENIOR TEAM SOON.

We will, give it time

Hi eds any idea why Martin Kelly was out of the squad on sat? Was it just KK taking precautions because he played on Wed and his past injury record?

Mighty reds {Ed001's Note - I believe so, though with Kenny in charge it is impossible to be sure, I have been told he has been advised that Kelly is growing and needs to be given rest.}

We had the same problems with Gerrard. Had to nurture him and give him a rest now and then. Kenny doing it right by giving the lad a break.
Robbie

I think a fully fit GJ is still first choice rb, esp with no genuine rw at the moment. Don't think GJ will get tried further fwd.

Nice to see people are laying off Andy Carroll for a while! I'm still not convinced by him to be fair but the lad seems to be starting to realise that no matter what the fee your not certain of your place at a massive club like Liverpool and has responded in recent weeks, maybe this approach may help Downing a little? Let him sit a few games out and put Bellamy in, making him fret a little might generate some improvement!

Waro

Downing has been very disappointing, hes not produced any thing like we hoped. carrol and hendo have both looked better for been benched, id love bell to get a run out. still hoping glen j gets a run out on the wing when kellys ready 4 his next match

Ed, Did Gerrard come in the first team as a long term replacement for someone in 2000-01 season? Sorry i am unaware because i wasnt following football as a 6 year old..

Terminator {Ed001's Note - I am not sure what you mean, he came in to play when we had gaps in the team. I can remember him playing right back like he was born to play there in one game.}

What i am asking is, who did Gerrard replace in the first team as a central midfielder

Terminator {Ed001's Note - I can't really remember, I seem to remember Michael Thomas, but I am not sure if I am correct in that, it could have been Redknapp, though he barely played through injury.}

to be honest i think were doin alrite at the moment and could possibly consider adam johnson
as our next signing

I'd take dos santos over him

..................reina....................
kelly....coates...k.toure....enrique
.........henderson...adam............
eriksen........sissoko.......downing
.................suarez...................

this is the team i hope by summer
kolo toure wants out of man city we could give him first team football he is also a solid good centre back
as i think its more than likely skrtel or agger will leave
also i do not think gerrard will recover fully and sissoko should be bought as a replacement
finally christian eriksen would be the final piece of the puzzle very skillful and quick player with a cracking right foot...
i do believe hendersons best positiion is centre mid and can see him becoming a very gerrard esk hard tackling powerful centre mid...

just my thoughts like but i do believe these are realistic changes and targets

ant

Toure? No thanks.
Eriksen wants La Liga.
Sissoko? Maybe

KT!

No Agger or Lucas, have a word

Maxi Rodriguez & Fabio Aurelio to leave Anfield in Jan to free up space for James McCarthy from Wigan & Luuk De Jong from Twente. A move for Adam Johnson is looking more & more likely too, his relationship with Mancini is beyond repair.

Think we'll keep Fabio till the end of the season.. think his contract runs out then?
~
KT!

Why oh why mcarthy? we need sissoko

Don't joke, we will prob get McCarthy... Might as well buy Gibson from Utd, just as carp.

Team vs Swansea

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Henderson Lucas Adam Downing

Suarez Carroll

Subs: Doni, Kelly, Coates, Maxi, Spearing, Kuyt, Bellamy

I think Bellamy should have a go at left-wing, so Downing has more determination to play and keep his first team spot.

I just don't understand the criticism of Downing, he offers so much to the team its is unbelievable, i just hope he doesn't get injured.

I cant tell if Jatt is being sarcastic

Just watched a recording of Twente VS PSV. de Jong look no better than Ngog. No pace, poor touch, ball control & passing. had only 4-6 shots at the goal most of it too far away from the target. Just hope he did not end up at Liverpool. Scoring a couple of goals in dutch league won't always make a player good for premier league or any bigger tough league, expect for few ones eg; Suarez & RVP. You tube is very much deceiving! after watching de jong play a number of times i have to disagree with my posts before. He is not good enough (for me). END OF STORY!

pytbull {Ed001's Note - have you watched him play a number of times or just the once? Seems like there is a bit of uncertainty in your post...}

I have watched the most recent 4 matches de jong played for twente, the stats are from twente against PSV only.
i kept a close eye on him as ed were mentioning there is genuine interest from the club. even heard he can cover the right wing position too but he is no pacier than Kuyt or Carroll from what i have seen.
Sorry for my poor English!

pytbull

He's a player that WILL put the ball in the net... He may not look that pacey because of his long legs but he got abit of pace about him.

KT!

Ed1 what do you think we still need to gamble on average players or buy atleast 1or2 world class players keep in mind haven't won league more then twenty years as a fan its very painful {Ed001's Note - your comment is nonsense. If you are asking if we should be gambling on potential or buying players who are already finished articles, that would make sense. In which case, I think it depends on whether you are mature enough to want long term success, or if you are a modern knee jerk reaction fan who expects everything now.}

Knee jerks the new black Ed didn't you know?
I don't understand why fans don't have patience, only a person or a bitter couldn't understand that FSG's plan for LFC will work if we give them time.

KT!

Usian Bolt has long legs?! and Benzema thy are not exactly slow

Yeah but having long legs can sometimes give the look of a person running slower depending on there runniing style... I did not say he was slow.

KT!

Every one cant be a superstar. remmember riky van wolfsker. (spelling ) many of our supporter say he is not our type. he himself say like to join kyut with us. but we didnt do the good job. now man utd want him. you cant always pay £25m to £35 buy superstar. you have to test young talent guys to find a superstar.

Ed1 long term succes is fine but still we have to think of present in your honest opinion do you think if we don't win trophys in 4 to 5 years players like reina,suarez still be playing for our great club {Ed001's Note - I doubt Suarez will be at Liverpool in 5 years regardless of what we win. I would rather have players brought up in the Liverpool Way, players that see Liverpool as the peak of their career, rather than just another club.}

01 Nov 2011 18:49:18
Theatre of Dreams Productions in conjunction with the Liverpool Annual Pantomime Corporation and Fixtureless European Week Promotions are proud to present a preview of the long awaited sequel to the feature film "A Few Good Men". Introducing:

"A FEW DAFT MEN"

The Final Court Scene;

On a yacht in Boston harbour, NESV are reviewing who is responsible for Liverpool's failed transfer policy. Judge John Henry is presiding, with Tom Werner as prosecutor for NESV. Damien Comolli and Ian Ayre are the accused. Mr Werner calls Kenny Dalglish as the final witness:

Werner nervously shaking whilst raising a glass of water to his mouth, addresses Mr Dalglish

TW: Did you convince Ayre and Comolli to sanction the dross we have bought?

KD: You want answers?

TW: We want the truth!

KD: You can't handle the truth!

TW: With the amount of money we've spent, and we're still outside even a f*cking Europa Cup place, I think I'm entitled!

KD: Wee man, I have more responsibility to keep these daft Scousers cheerful and deluded than you can possibly fathom. Deep down, in dark places you don't like to go to at your Boston tea parties, my players discuss dirty diving techniques, influencing referees, and trying to win fouls in and around the penalty area, anything to try and win at any cost. You want me on that (touch) line, you need me on that (touch) line, so I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to! We will never win the league again, but we have to keep up the pretence so that our gullible, I mean "knowledgeable" supporters believe we can. Are we clear, ARE WE CLEAR?

TW: Crystal!

TW: Did you order the purchase of dross like Carroll, Adam, Henderson, Downing and Coates?

Silence

TW: Did you order the purchase of this rubbish?

KD: YOU'RE GODDAMN RIGHT I DID!

TW: May it please the Judge, the old relic, Mr Dalglish has rights.

KD: What's going on here? I'm going back to my base to try and wean Charlie Adam off deep fried mars bars!

Mr Dalglish is taken away by the ugly sisters.

Judge Henry turns to Messrs Ayre and Comolli and delivers his verdict.

JH: As you are aware, I am only in this for the money. I didn't even know who Liverpool FC were. For allowing me to spend ridiculous amounts of money on, at best average players, you are guilty as charged. You are both dishonourably discharged.

IA: What did that mean, Hal, I mean Damien, what did that mean? We didn't do anything wrong, Damien, what did we do wrong, we didn't do anything wrong! I only said that people want to watch Liverpool and not Bolton in Koala Lumparpar!

DC: It's not that simple Ian. We stood by whilst fans forced the appointment of the old relic Kenny, who in turn, bought players who couldn't trap a bag of cement, let alone a football.

IA: Do you mean like when the "knowledgeable" LFC fans forced Gillette and Hicks to keep Benetez long after his sell by date?

DC I'm afraid so Ian. We were supposed to fight for NESV who knew all about the famous Manchester United, when they were understandably completely clueless about the ex-famous Liverpool FC. We were supposed to fight for NESV and their attempted money making scheme. People in Kuala Lumpur won't watch Liverpool now!

Ayre and Comolli both rise and walk to the exit door. As Ayre leaves, Comolli reaches the door, turns around, salutes, and addresses Messrs Henry and Werner.

DC: Ten-hut! There's yet another unbelievably weak and dopey Liverpool ownership on deck!

THE END.

Ever since the new Gerrard injury I have been wondering if this is all a lie to keep him from getting injured. KK said he wants to ease him back slowly so that got me thinking. It's funny how he suddenly gets this infection 2 weeks before England play 2 games in 3 days. I could be wrong but do you think KK and Gerrard have come out with this to stop him being available for England and to concentrate on Liverpool? The last time he played for England he was injured at the end of the game and Fabio had agreed to only play him for 60 minutes but when back on his words.

What do you think Ed? Is it possible? {Ed001's Note - unlikely but certainly possible.}

I think it's more to do with the fact that Alex has just given birth to a baby girl and he's been given time off...

Do u still need time off after the 3rd one? Don't they just fall out and start walking?

not a rumour but more of a question , if we are looking at a replacement for gerrard , how about yann m'villa or nuri sahin both are young enough to learn from our older players but both are playing regular football , just an idea

Why would Sahin leave R.Madrid when, as you point out he's palying regular football?? HERBIE(MUFC)

Looking at the wealth of talent at RB now reminds me of rob jones.

Anybody knows what he is up to nowadays?

Man, he was a really terrific RB b4 injury did him in. What was it anyway? I've heard shin-splints but also heard it was his back. Anybody knows? All-knowing Eds?:-)

If he hadn't been done in, Gary Neville prob would have ard 10 caps for England.:-)

I believe it's the perfect time to develop the Skrtel and Agger centre back pairing.

I know Carragher is a first class organiser and keeps the boys concentrated on their positioning etc BUT Johnson, Skrtel, Agger and Enrique are all well experienced know and the Skrtel / Agger partnership should get a run up to Christmas in my opinion with Carra being played in the Carling cup and odd league game only.

I think the Skrtel / Agger partnership can develop to be better for the team in an attacking sense than the Carra / Hypia partnership has been in the past whilst still retaining a high level of defensive solidity. Primarily because the defence hold a line 7 meters higher condensing the opposition helping us recycle and retain possession.

I am also certain the more Agger plays the more confident his attacking will become and he will score some long range efforts that we all know he is more than capable of. Skrtel is also coming close to scoring from Corners. I have faith in these 2 and hope Kenny sticks with them.

The red otter

Agger has without doubt the potential to be the classiest Central Defender we have had since the days of Hansen and briefly Scales. The concern is he is prone to injury. Personally, if we can keep him fully fit then I would like to see him paired more with Coates in late stages or 'easier' games.

I'd play coates against new castle and teams with big cf

Skrtel would be world class if only he spent more time trying to win the ball than foul everyone in our box. that two foot manc (chick pea) gave him the slip and nodded in, where if he had attacked the ball with his 6foot + frame we win one nil.

Really enjoying watching the reserves this season, 3 players In particular are destined to anfield legends and I think we know the three already, Conor Coady, Adam Morgan and in my opinion the stand out man Raheem Sterling, this young lad is brilliant and not only going forward but the defensive side of his game has improved immensely. We all go on about who can replace Stevie when he hangs up but I firmly believe with players such as Shelvey, Sterling, Suso, Henderson and Coady we should have no concerns at all, I really believe Coady is that good, and as for Morgan he is the best finisher I have seen since Fowler he doesn't need many chances whatsoever.

My only critisism is the defence, I thought today Wilson was exposed too much although flanno looked very good, this lad would tackle a brick wall for the reds.

Any of the eds or fellow reds have an opinion? Remember this is only my opinion so

Jordan4

Little Flanno is an absolute joy to watch - He knows what it means to wear the red. We need eleven of him.

-McSnuggles

Sama and wisdom is the best partnership at cb flanno, wilson and smith didnt have good games. we missed silva at rw and ngoo didnt have a good game aswel but hes not a rfw so cant fault him.

Hi Ed's

I can apreciate your busy and i know it doesnt have any relevance to liverpool fc but im sure many posters would find it interesting to see the view from the Ed's corner

Just for abit of fun, lets say Liverpool had Man Citys transfer capacity, what would your starting 11 be and who would you sign?

Many Thanks

Yeah suppose thats true... "/

For me it would be

pepe reina
dani alves
pique
chellieni
A cole
messi
iniesta
xavi
C ronaldo
suarez
aguero

Danny

I'll take Suarez over Sanchez/Pedro...

But to be fair this Barcelona team is very well capable of achieving legendary status. They're good.

They are good is the biggest under statement of the year. the are bloody amazing lol

Enrique over cole thinking long term
lucas for xavi again long term

Maybe enrique
but not lucas.no were near the quality of xavi.i think thaigo in the future

Danny

Reina; Van Der Wiel, Agger, Pique, Enrique; Lucas Pastore Sissoko; Hazard Suarez Levezzi.

That's my team I'd love for LFC. All realistic options with Champ League football!

Corkpoolred

Have any of you watched a lot of these players in these lists play lately?
Chiellini is GROSSLY overrated, as is Van Der Weil.

Saying Lucas is nowhere near the class of Xavi is unfair - who is, besides the current midfield crop of the top two Spanish teams? They're all getting old, too, Iniesta the exception (how is he still under 30, feels like he's been playing forever!!)

Dani Alves as your starting right back? Over Kelly and Johnson? We already have one player who can't defend, why bring in an overpriced and overpaid one to do the same?

Don't buy into the hype surrounding so many international players. Watch them in games before formulating an opinion. Chiellini is especially shocking - to me he shouldn't get a look in over Carragher, let alone Agger or Skrtel.

I think the players i have chosen are 100 times better than the ones you have selected.I'm of course a lfc fan but none of are players apart from reina (who in my opinion is the best keeper in the world)and suarez are actually good enough to get into this team.your deluded if you think lucas should be in a 'dream team'.And age has nothing to do with it.this si of present.and xavi and iniesta are the best around.

Afternoon eds / reds,
Do you think Suarez had a chance of a top 3 place in the ballon d'or?
Personally, maybe biased but I think he has made a huge impression not just here but in the rest if the world due to his performance in the Copa America, so deserves it more than any other premier league player.
Ultra red {Ed002's Note - He may well do but his ban at the start of the year in the Netherlands will not reflect well.}

Common Ed, a little love bite never did any harm...

That's a lie, it causes murder, especially when the wife finds out :-(
The swan

Suarez has only been named to make the numbers up. Can you imagine if he wasnt in it? You lot would be throwing a fit.

I think all but one player has been named to make the numbers up. Messi will win and the rest get to go to the awards ceremony.

Hiya ed

i see everyone talking about big names on here but never about big talents so my question is are their any future superstars that we have our eyes on

one more question if you where in charge who would you of brought wickham £8mil or carroll £35mil ??

thanx eds keep up the great work please :)

ramythered

Would rather have andy Carroll. If the owners are prepared to pay the 35m I would rather have the better player.

MIKEY

Wickham has a lot of talent, but I don't think he matches up to Big Andy AT ALL.

Hi ed, heard of any interest from major clubs in Milan Badelj? My friend from Croatia reckons he's the business. Cheers {Ed002's Note -I have nothing noted on him in terms of interest at this time.}

looks as though Arsenal could table a bid of £20 mil for Podolski. I would love it if we got him instead, the link up play between him, Gerrard, Downing and Suarez would be world class. what do you think ed? {Ed002's Note - I don't see any chance of Podolski going to a club where he cannot be sure of a starting place - it could well put his international career at risk.}

The odds of Lukas moving at all are very low - he's a big fish in a little pond in his hometown, he's not particularly interested in moving.

Hi I think that liverpool should go for Blackburns Junior Hoillet.I have been impressed by this guy what I have seen of him.He gets down the sideline and beats people not like Stuart Downing who keeps cutting inside all the time.The Redman.What do you think?

Downing really needs to up his game.

Downing is missing all the good players he had around him at Villa.

great site ed's, just a question. do we have a chance in signing shaqiri from basel? cause i'm from switzerland, seen him play and this guy looks like real quality and a lot of potential

Ed how come my post about the ballon dor was cut?
As far as I am aware I didn't break any rules.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - You mentioned a subject which we are looking to avoid.}

What subjects are taboo? {Ed002's Note - Obviously we cannot tell you that.}

I think I know what part. But it has been discussed at great length on this site, I only mentioned it. It wasn't what the post was about. Could you not post the remainder of the post with that one sentence cut? Not trying to open a can of worms by bringing it up again but was a fair post.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - I don't have the time to start to reword and restructure posts, sorry.}

Obviously we can't tell that - maybe I missed something but why is it obvious that you can't tell that?

For instance is talking about the weather allowed?

How about Christmas?

A pointer would be good, maybe I'am thick but its not obvious to me and I will bet many others?

There has been some interesting talk on here about whether stats tell the whole story when comparing players “ the most recent example has been who is the better player out of Rooney and Suarez. I said on the United page yesterday that I haven't seen enough of Rooney this year but I if I was given the choice I would choose Suarez because he has made such an impact on our team this season. It was then pointed out that Rooney has scored 9-goals this season and has 2-assists while Suarez has scored 4-goals and has 3-assists, so does this make Rooney the better player? Do the stats really tell the whole story?
If we look at some of the games Suarez has played this year and his contributions to those games we can see that not everything he has contributed has ended with a goal or an assist but he deserves some recognition. For example Sunderland at home - Suarez was fouled in the area and won a penalty and Richardson should have been sent-off. Now Suarez missed the penalty but this could easily have been another goal to his tally but also an assist as he won the penalty. He was also fouled that lead to the free-kick from which he scored. Against Arsenal he came off the bench and played a major contribution to the own goal by playing a one-two with Meireless and as he was about to receive the ball the defender hit it against his own player and it went into the goal. In the game against Bolton at home he was on the left-wing and played a magnificent ball into the area on the outside of his right boot to Kuyt who had his shot blocked but then passed to Henderson to curl a lovely shot into the top corner. Now Suarez never got an assist for this goal but he played a major contribution to it. Against Everton he won a penalty that was missed which would have been an assist and also set-up Kuyt for a chance where he hit the post. Against Norwich he helped set-up numerous chances and hit the post a couple of times while the keeper made a couple of world class saves from him including one in the last minute.
So while Suarez's goals scored and assists may be not be comparable to other players it is clear his contribution to the team is far greater than those stats suggest. It is also worth noting that a lot of Suarez's goals and assists have come as the opening goal which is arguably more important than a hat-trick in a comfortable win.
I am not trying to use these facts to say that Suarez is better than Rooney but just to show that goals and assists do not give the whole story when comparing players. In my opinion Suarez has been fantastic this season and looks to create a chance for himself or a team-mate every time he receives the ball.

JRG

Agree that stats are not everything for eg a team concedes 5 penalties a season when they are 3 nil up so doesnt affect the game and comparing 2 title changing penalties in the last minute

I know when I would rather concede the penalties

Eds is there a way of not reducing the capacity too much of Anfield while they are redeveloping it?

Surely it doesnt make sense to move to a new 60 thousand ground when you can make the one you play at to 65 thousand. The only justifaible reason to move to a new stadium is to make it into massive stadium eg 75 thousand plus.

Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - The issue surrounds the problems in expanding Anfield to 60K which would be the preferred option no doubt. The issues are with planning and perhaps it is all tied to access etc.. THis is why a stepped or phased approach to the development of Anfield makes the most sense to me. All this talk of a 75k stadium seems a little bit of a pipe dream as far as I can tell.}

Ed002 , do you not think with naming rights say for around 200million , and building a new stadium will be easier to do ,, as this allows for a quicker built , and surrounding area etc , coprate boxs , shops , to me we wont get naming rights if we stay at anfield , plus if we built a new ground , its easier to put in place a extention plan for seating taking it up to 80 odd thousand if needed , i just think in costs and for the future we need a new ground to get the required income to complete with utd , city etc............lfc

{Ed002's Note - I don't think folks have yet grasped that this mystery £200M benefactor will not be giving a lump sum up front so a very significant loan would need to be taken out. Additionally, any change to the extant application will need the process to be re-entered and that could lead to objections, reviews, delays etc. - perhaps for a couple of years. The local infrastructure would need significant improvement and I do not know how much the club could raise to do that. We will soon have a better idea once some statement is made.}

Anfield cant be expanded beyond 60,000 because of where it is surrounded by terraced houses and stuck between 2 roads,It needs to be a complete rebuild that would be better on Stanley park,The new Anfield has to be a Statement a sight to be seen from a distance,to renovate our present site will be a loss of revenue as each stand is replaced (Health and Safety) where as the new stadium will be built without a reduction in our present capascity.The new stadium needs to be built with the Future in mind meaning it needs to be built with room to expand more also it needs to be built to be used not only on match days. the club needs to generate monies via Resturants ,Conference rooms ,Weddings Etc that way we will out do our competitors,more monies means more for Transfers Etc.As for atmospere that is generated by the Fans Remember Attaturk 2005 the fans did that not the stadium.

I have posted this idea before. Anfield CAN be extended along the Main Stand and Anfield Road sides but it would need the closure of Anfield Road at Centenary Stand entrance gate and somewhere near Alroy Road to block off the part of Anfield Road where the ground is. That would make Anfield Road a cul-de-sac and there are sufficient alternative routes for local traffic. The existing Anfield Road stand and service area could be extended towards Stanley Park and the Main Stand and service area could go back towards Alroy Road. It needs the Council to agree the principle of closing Anfield Road and work towards Compulsory Purchase of some houses to offer the Club this option. We would keep Stanley Park as the main car park and the immediate area around the ground could be regenerated with Section 106 Planning gain finance from the Club.
Midsred

By building a new stadium with selling the naming rights, there will be no side effects on revenue at anfield meaning it will be the best and most sensable option.

Hy ed! I have seen de jong played for couple of month but i must admit i will go for adam jonhson then him so got couple of question for you!
1. Is de jong a alternative target or primary target? And if jonhson become available in jan do u think we will go for him or de jong or both?
2. Are you happy with lfc performance after summer singing? I personally is gutted! If we could have used all our chances against sunderland, stroke,norwich, n manutd we could have atleast 25 by this time n would have been chasing city but still its not sprint its marathon and i personaly is so nervous cause tot are looking more better than us! {Ed002's Note - (1) There is no link between Johnson and De Jong in terms of targets. (2) It is a quarter of the way through the season and Liverpool are well placed to be fighting for the European places come the end of the season.}

We are creating lots of chances I think we need a proper striker and can be a big difference finishing top4 as gerarrd injured bellamy should play rw and hendo should fight for midfield spot

Jonson,in reply to your earlier post id take suarez 10 times out of 10. Suarez has it all,except maybe that killer finish a 2008torres,villa,rvp or higauin(sp.) has. Once he regains that killer finish he had when he played for ajax he's gonna be up there with messi and ronaldo. But take nothing away from higuain. Ive been watching a bit of la liga and he is a great player,an awesome finisher. Just dont think he's as good as luis though. 1st time ive disagreed with the ed as well. And just look at how the media,managers and opposition players are trying to trashtalk luis. That for me says it all. They fear him. Yep,he is a bit of a dirty player but he reminds me of this former nba star reggie(forgot the surname,miller i think) i saw on espn classic. Very good at getting under the opposition players' skin. Except for his obvious talents i love watching luis do that as well lol. Sorry for the long winded post.

ed u are sayin you cant go out on loan under 18 ? how come mendez-laing did at 17 ? {Ed002's Note - I think you will find he went when he was 18 not 17. I was actually referring to a separate ruling that allows only one player from a team to be loaned to another EPL team unless it is a goalkeeper or one loan is due to become permanent.}

Is that all epl clubs or just the one you already have a player loaned at? {Ed001's Note - players have to be 18 to go out on loan, regardless of whether or not another player is already on loan at the club or not. Sterling even said so himself on Twitter when the nonsense rumours started about him going out on loan during the summer!}

i dont know why all are looking for gerrards back up, imo we should should give shelvey the chance, cause this fella gonna be one of englands finest in the future, world class. {Ed002's Note - But on loan until the end of the year.}

I hate this obsession with replacing great players. No one will ever replace Gerrard. The team will change without him, there's no point wasting our time finding an equally talismanic midfielder because we won't find one. The team will adapt and hopefully become even better over time, but we won't do that by scouring the country for Gerrard's equal, we'll do it by building a new team again

Red Ollie

I think we have gerrards replacement already in Suarez. We need someone who replaces the drive and passion gerrard gives us. Who said it needs to be another midfielder? Great players come and go, but we always seem to have at least one world class player at Liverpool. Our academy is becoming one of the worlds best so I have no worrys at all about the future.

MIKEY

I agree with Red Ollie on this issue. It is highly unlikely that an identical, or even an equivalent replacement exists. The best strategy will be to develop the squad as a whole by strengthening weaker areas over the course of time.

So 4 players from the PL made it to the ballon d'or shortlist.

That's cool.

Suarez, kun, looney and nani.

Which of them starred at the world cup? Waitaminute, let's make it easier. Who scored at the world cup?

And then we had the COPA. Ok this is a no-brainer cos somebody was voted player of the tournament and it wasn't kun.

I can't say Luis is the best player in the world, but if any of the other 3 finish higher than him, we really need to audit the ranking process.

Or send the powers-that-be for eye, brain and bank account checks.:-)

Hey Ed's i just wanted to say it is great that use are being realistic with our transfer links and everything but there's times when use sound like liverpool have virtually no chance in signing big name quality players , we should keep the faith because we were at our worst in 50 years last season around January and we managed to buy luis suarez , anything can happen and i feel liverpool is a big enough club to lure the best , keep the faith , Y N W A !!

Hi Ed

I think this is one of the most exciting PL openers for a long time, which is great. The Reds are starting to play some great football, and this can only improve as the team continue to gel. I know it's early days but to get into that top 4 is gonna be bloody hard.....but acheivable. Spuds, Chelsea, Gonners and Newcastle and us are all in the mix for 3rd and 4th!!

Nail your colours to the mast ED......Do you think we'll do it and get bak in the CL??

You sure ed? I'm sure Chelsea have Van Aanholt and Kakuta on loan at PL clubs

Red Ollie {Ed002's Note - I am sure. They are not at the same EPL club. So Chelsea can loan Kakuta to Manchester United and Torres to Liverpool but not both to Manchester City.}

Ha ha very nice one ed, I don't understand why our youngsters should go loan to bolton. They are in s**t pile right now. Would better go to norwich and swansea who are doing good and also play very good football.

hey ed quick ?in my opinion when gerard is not playing i think charlie adam should take all penos and corners and free kicks on the left side was annoying the other evening when carrol tryed to take the ball off adam same when suarez did the same when it was clearly set up for adam we need to be a bit more organised what do ye think lads

I think Adam should take all the pens and corner kicks regardless of if gerrard is playing. I remember when Suarez signed I read he was a good free kick taker so maybe he should share them with Adam and gerrard.

MIKEY

Gerrard should never be on corners, he is better placed to be on the end if it gets headed out with a thunderbolt into the corner

I agree, I was so annoyed when Suarez wasted the freekick against West Brom, it was in a perfect position for Charlie. The players clearly can't agree on a system so I think Kenny should just tell them what to do {Ed001's Note - Charlie just needs to get his confidence up and demand the ball, he is still a bit overawed at the moment.}

Here's another excellent post to cheer you up on yet another European Football week, where the elite of English football battle against the elite of European football. I hope you appreciate I am just trying to take your minds off European football week, because it is another unhelpful reminder to everyone of Liverpool's inexorable demise into football obscurity.

Great career moves:

Andy Carroll leaves his home town club for 35m (yes, I am not joking, Liverpool paid 35m!) where he was a hero, and who are now a top 4 team, playing in front of 50.000 + crowds and moves to join a mid-table team in a much smaller, and quieter stadium, whos supporters constantly, and quite rightly, berate him for being a useless plank!

What a mistake a to make a!

Wait a minute!..Andy Carroll leaves Newcastle, then they suddenly become a top 4 team, what a coincidence...SPOOKY! (Late Halloween reference..enjoy!)

Sir Alex x

You let me down Alex, i had such faith you could keep it up! your just becoming repetitive now, just live how your team keeps repetitively loosing. Please prove me wrong and come up with something fresh, or just buy some new material or are you also live Everton in that aspect! still have faith in you though try harder!

I know i shouldnt encourage you but this post actually made me chuckle lol

The elite of english football would never concede 6 goals especially at home

Typical Manc comment. have we played 37 games and sit 4 points behind Newcastle? Has Andy Carroll played 37 games and only scored 2 PL goals? No my friend.

Just 10 games played and 28 to go for things to get a completely different look. I'm confident we'll finish in the top 4, along with big Andy Carroll having notched up a decent goal tally.

You're making yourself look like a real snap on pal. I'd be more concerned about Spams shortcomings than ours. Very unconvincing to say the least.

"Standard Chartered Anfield Stadium/Standard Chartered Stanley Park."

The name I would prefer for our new stadium if Standard Chartered was by chance the sponsor for new Stadium.

Ed,

It's most likely that the capacity of new stadium would be 60K (even with an option to expand 70K) as it was what the permission was given but don't you think its a bit less. I won't be that much convinced if it is 60K bcaz we can even expand Anfield to 60K, 60K permission was given years ago and now the situation has changed very much.

Is there any possibility that it would be more than 60K?
How much money do you really think it would need to build such a stadium? my guess is around 450M-600M. with FSG not having endless amounts of Money like Abramovich or Sheik Mansour will LFC be in a situation like Arsenal, high ticket prices, decreased spending on new players.

pytbull

{Ed002's Note - I have explained my views (twice) on the stadium already this morning. I don't see higher ticket prices as the solution to raising money as it is simply not sustainable. A recent report commissioned by another club concluded that there would be a drop in numbers of people attending live football matches as more football is available via other means (television, streaming etc.). This is a sensible conclusion given the gradual decline there has been over the past 50 years. I have also said all along that I am by no means convinced that the answer rests in the provision of a new stadium at this time and that from my perspective a reworked Anfield seems a more likely solution. This is of course a personal view and I could well be wrong.}

Capetown Red. Ye probably couldn't see the wood for the brush. I get it know you've come out and said why you put those players down mate. Who would you rather have in our team Suarez or Higuain, seems the general concencus is Higuain which i'm a bit suprised about considering Coates only let him out of his pocket so he could resume pre season training for Real. Jonson

Haven't seen too much of Higuain recently. Thats the sacrifice us non-Sky punters have to live with. Make do with the Football League Show. Lol.
Suarez makes me very happy though, so he'll do for me.

I'd prefer Suarez over Higuan. He's proven Prem League standard and works his balls off. No need to replace him with anyone at all.

Ed when our RBs are all fit we have 3 capable players vying for one position. I was of the mind that G.Johnson wld be shifted to RM this season and i dont think im the only one. he wld be more than capable. is it me or is KK not as sly as he was last season, ppl were swapped around effectively. players were rewarded for goals and the formation was always a suprise to the opposition.
now we seem to b trying to accomodate some1, hendo, AC, adam. its all so emotional and less tactical?? {Ed002's Note - I suspect Johnson wants to play right back to protect his England place, but I do agree he could do a perfectly good job in right midfield. Players were swapped around last season (e.g. Johnson to LB) to cover for injury and suspension.}

01 Nov 2011 04:25:43
Ed, how do you rate spearing, hendo and shelvey at the moment? (just opinion no numbers required) {Ed002's Note - Spearing is a squad player and every club needs folks like that which they can rely on. I am not completely convinced by Henderson but he is young and we will see. The loan and regular football should do Shelvey some good.}

Ed hendo is quality then spearing

01 Nov 2011 02:16:01
Ed, do we have any up and coming strikers worthy of making it to the 1st team within the next 2 years. Considering that if we make Champions or Europa league we may need beefing up in that area. We seem to be blessed with midfield talent but no word of Striking talent.
RedSHP {Ed002's Note - I am told Adam Morgan is particularly nifty.}

We shouldn't repeat our mistakes which we did with torres when torres was in his peak we could atleast had won some trophys now is same with suarez we should buy quality players rather then gamble on average players

01 Nov 2011 02:08:21
Hi Ed's. Lots of speculation about the new LFC stadium, capacity of 68-74K, seems to be most accurate. I recall reading a article sometime back that Man u wanted to expand Old Trafford to 90K plus.
Have heard anything of this?.
Food for thought. {Ed002's Note - My understanding is that planning permission was for 60k and it would require a completely new application to raise it above that. I would have thought that the planning process and the possible hurdles with objections would make that difficult. If the plan were for a new 60k stadium that could later be expanded to 70k or whatever was suggested, it would make more sense to me. Elsewhere I have given my opinion on the matter that the answer may well lie at Anfield.}

Can i just say how solid we looked at the back at the west brom game mainly because Carra was not playing.We kept out first clean sheet of the season im sorry but its time for him to retire to the bench.

I don't think one thing equates with the other. We dominated West Brom in midfield and they had very little to offer going forward. However, I must say, I don't worry these days when we're without Carra & SG. The team is not affected. Midfield seems to flow more freely, by which I mean everyone's not automatically looking for SG.
SH on the bench for me at the moment - when fit.
The Real KB

That's SG on the bench, not SH !

Clean sheet against everton and who was playing

Yes, let's keep playing Carra for the rest of the season and finish 6th. So tired of the rose coloured glasses. This is why Lfc are always accused of living in the past. We don't owe Carra anything but respect.

Ed there is a few rumours popping up saying the club have decided to go with building a new stadium in Stanley park and we will be there by the 2014 season, have you heard anything to back this up ? When are you expecting an announcement of the final decision from the club ? And with your proven inside knowledge and down to earth mind what do you think the club will eventually decide to do ?
I think we will move, will be a good move for the long term
Cheers
Aussie red {Ed002's Note - With a feeling of deja vu, there are five options as I see it: (1) New build to an existing “approved” design commissioned by the previous owners. This has the benefit of being the quickest and most economic way forward as far as a new build goes and I recall the fans being impressed with the designs. (2) New build to the design of an existing stadium (e.g. the Allianz Arena). This would save considerably on architects fees but may prove problematic in other areas – but may be more viable than folks realise. (3) New build to a completely new design. It will cost considerably more and take much longer to go down this route. This has to be a high-risk option. (4) Redevelopment of Anfield to add 12-15k seats that FSG would like to see. Economically this would seem to be the option that would give the best return on investment, but this is the option that is hampered by local planning regulations. My feeling is that this is seemingly the option that most fans would prefer. (5) A phased improvement and redevelopment of Anfield to bring the stadium up to code and to perhaps add some additional seating. This would provide a medium term solution that only moves the real issue to the right, but it would possibly facilitate the inclusion of the full quota of additional seating at a later date.
My assumption was always that any naming right deal would be for a new build and not for a redeveloped Anfield. I don't know if anything has changed in respect of that. I also don't know if FSG are actively trying to find a way to overcome planning regulation restrictions that would allow them to eventually add the additional seating at Anfield that they desire. Building a new stadium is going to mean a very large loan being taken on and even though sponsorship will cover much of the cost year on year, it can possibly be seen as an albatross that FSG may not want hanging around their neck.
My own view at this time is that the club will look at a phased improvement of Anfield hoping that a way can be found to add the additional seating in the not too distant future.}

Hi ED002. I enjoyed your post and answers on the stadium, I believe you covered all the options and variables very well. There are so many factors to be considered by FSG. Here in South Africa, we sit with the "legacy" of the World Cup, massively expensive stadiums that are not being used, and were never economically viable at all. Cape Town Stadium R4.4 billion Rand, and all it has hosted are a few concerts. Cape Town football clubs can not afford the fees associated with using the stadium, and generally play elsewhere. Rugby (Stormers and WP) still play at Newlands (which is a beautiful, but older stadium) which has a capacity of 51K. Its all about viability, and in a world of instant media and access to games anf video, its a relief to see that FSG are being very thorough and prudent. Regards Shankly's Red Army. {Ed002's Note - Interestingly a similar situation will arise following the Olympic Games in Great Britain. There would have been no need to build the Olympic Stadium in London if a running track and other minor modifications were incorporated at Wembley. A second new stadium (for filed hockey) is being built as well. Unless Leyton Orient take on the Olympic Stadium and West Ham and Spurs agree to share the hockey stadium I fear a similar fate.}

Hi ED002. Yip, it is scary stuff. Fifa insisted on new stadiums for the WC, and the Govt just "caved in" to these demands. We have at least 8-10 stadiums that sit relatively unused, the cost to South Africa close to R20 billion (rand), but with interest accruing it is most likely 2 maybe 3 times that. The Durban stadium cost R4 billion rand, and sits a few hundred meters from the Rugby stadium. Sad to see such a waste of money and resources, and in a country like South Africa where many people have no homes. One can never justify this waste of money, and all to impress the FIFA panel. I imagine the London situation is much the same, euphoria at hosting the Olympics (and those who question the costs and excesses involved, are branded "unpatriotic, and doomsayers" just like here!), but reality is what it is, and sustanability and viability should always be the most important consideration. I personally believe staying at Anfield and redeveloping it over a few years makes the best financial sense, especially in a era of recession. Regards and thanks, Shankly's Red Army.

Hi ED002. It does baffle the mind that no provision for a running track was made for Wembley, and now additional stadiums are being constructed. I know that Durban (Kwazulu Natal) have indicated interest in hosting the Olympics, but no provision made for a running track at the Durban stadium, though they might be able to pull it off, but not sure if it will conform to International Olympic Standards. I recall many of the facilities in Barcelona also became "white elephants" after the Olympics there, so one can honestly see the trend continuing. In fact I believe that only LA and Atlanta (in the USA) have actually staged a profitable Olympic event (for the respective cities), where all infrastructural upgrades actually benefited the host cities! Regards Shankly's Red Army.,

Jonson

Regarding your post last night. I agree that silva and suarez along with rvp are best players to watch in the league this season,regardless of stats. I definitely wont be wasting my time watching demba ba,shrek,dzeko or aguero just because they score a goal or 2 more. They are simply not as exciting to watch as the 3 i listed above. As for the aguero,balotelli,silva,dzeko thing i simply listed the scorers of the city game to piss the champ1-6ns off. And look,it definitely shut alex up lol.

Gr8 post mate. Suarez, rvp n silva r magicians. Whenever they get the ball, they do sumthin special with it. personally, i find shrek n aguero really borin to watch. they just play pass n move, they dont do anythin special on their own.

Hi Ed001,

Was happy to hear that Robinson has signed a new deal, personally barring Kelly he for me looks nailed on to be a constant future first team starter, who do you reckon is closest?
Thanks.

Jatt YNWA {Ed001's Note - other than Kelly? I would agree with Robinson, but for the fact that Enrique is playing so well. Bearing in mind that it takes a couple of seasons to really nail down a first team place, and remembering how short we are of wide players in the first team squad, I would have to say Sterling and Silva must be the closest ones.}

I would like silva to get a few chances 5-10mins here and there because i feel he is the most consistant and all rounded player in the reserves. he has skill, speed, physical maturity is a team player and an attacker/outlet player

Sterling and Morgan too.

eds now that tevez' family are living in england, do you think theres a chance liverpool would be interested in him?
or does tevez have more than 'separated with family issues'? {Ed001's Note - his wages would be an issue that would not be overcome. His attitude would be another issue.}

No thanks

I bet he'll move to Spurs if he stays in England. 'Arry won't keep Adebayor, he'll be back at City in the summer.

Renegadered

You have to give it to SAF on this one - knew Tevez would implode and got rid of him.

Through the Storm

Its a shame he's such a t*rt because he is a great player and always gives 100%

Ash

How are Spurs gonna afford his wages Renegadered ?
It would surely only be Chelsea.
The Real KB

City have agreed to pay half his wages... I would take him and exploit him for half a season! The guy will be hungry, want to play well to gethimself to get a new club, prove a point to Man City & he's hardly played so will be fresh! No brainer for me - I would not buy him though... If Harry takes him to Spurs I think they'll probably get fourth this season.

There's no way City will stump up half his wages to go to Spurs or any other top EPL side.
He's going abroad, end of. Agreed ed ?
The Real KB {Ed002's Note - Manchester City want the player off the books completely as soon as is possible. At present they are holding firm over their £40M evaluation. If a meeting between Joorabchian and Miguel Pardeza can be brokered (and I understand efforts have been made) then we will see alternate solutions put on the table. There is no way that Real Madrid are in a position to pay £40M for Tevez right now so a trade is the next best option. Khedira plus cash will likely be offered up and I don't think he will be of any interest to Manchester City. I rather think City will ask for Di Maria. Another option is a move to Inter Milan - again a player would be involved and they will offer up Macon. A final option may be a move to South America with Manchester City retaining some partial ownership. I think a move within England is unlikely unless it is a last resort.}

luuk de jong n moussa sissoko do u think they r good enuf?
De jongs frm tha dutch league but onli few make it but they b amazing (suarez 48 goals) {Ed001's Note - yes, I do.}

I hope and pray we should buy star striker. To patner suarez. Coz he deserves it and traditionally we have always played with quality strikers

^^ That all stopped when you bought Carroll. {Ed001's Note - nope, not in the slightest did it stop or we wouldn't have been looking at De Jong.}

Last post tonight, for once i'd have to disagree with you Ed001. As good as Higuain is, i belive Real Madrid would bite our hands off if there was a chance of a straight swap for Suarez, same with Benzema come to think of it. Jonson {Ed001's Note - Benzema they would swap, but not Higuain, he is a class apart, that is why he is first choice not Aguero.}

I agree they wouldn't swap Higuain, but I doubt they would swap Benzema either. They play with 1 striker most of the time and Benzema is a better lone striker than Suarez
