LOVING THIS!

Only downside, imo the better we get as a team, the more Lallana looks out of place.

He's not a bad player but just not on the same wavelength as most of our other attacking players.

I think he's been really poor tonight.

What are others thoughts on him?

Believable7 Unbelievable12

20 Apr 2016 23:55:09
I have to agree, despite his performances improving I feel he slows the game down. He isn't capable of quick one touch football, and unlike the best players in his position like silva, de bruyne (no I'm not a city fan) he doesn't seem to have his head on the turn all the time understanding where everyone is on the pitch. This means he hasn't worked out his next move until he has collected the ball then taken a look around. Just my opinion but he needs replacing.

21 Apr 2016 00:01:36
He works hard and creates space. He should have had a hat trick tonight.
Even though he didn't get on the score sheet, he's getting in to the right positions. He's got a major role to play in this team.
Klopp really rates him and in Klopp I trust.

21 Apr 2016 00:14:07
Like Klopp said if you look lallana always the 1st one to press he's finish not good but the rest of his game he's good .

21 Apr 2016 00:32:05
Are you kidding?! He presses better than anyone else in the team and starts the press for everyone else! Yes he was wasteful in front of goal tonight but don't let that blind you to the other work he does. He is integral to the team right now!

21 Apr 2016 01:23:23
I thought Lallana bar the poor finish was really good tonight. Especially off the ball, he holds onto the ball too long sometimes but that's something that can be changed.

21 Apr 2016 01:54:08
he's useless at building up play and plays it safe all the time. he does manage to find himself in good positions with his workrate but then fluffs it when it comes to making an intricate pass or shot at goal. i also hate the way he gets the ball in space and decides to hold up play and let the opposing team get back into position as he does his fancy turns dodging them. not to mention he has the balance of a pisshead and gets shrugged off the ball all too easily. it is strange. I thought he was a decent finisher as he started his liverpool career. scored some decent goals. must have been flukes. i even thought once he could replace suarez because he looked good on the eye. lol. he needs to go to a midtable club that needs a hardworker. that's his level. no shame in that.

21 Apr 2016 01:56:55
Firmino and Coutinho all press hard too but they, unlike Lallana can finish and always release the ball in rhythm. Why can't Lallana do that? because he doesn't learn and keeps doing the same thing expecting different results.

21 Apr 2016 03:50:59
Llalana can be slow on the ball at times, and yes his finishing is poor at the moment, but he's also highly effective at pressing and presenting for the ball and capable of something special with his movement and vision.

He's not on his best form right now but I have confidence he can sort those issues out with good coaching, and with a bit of confidence can become someone very dangerous.

21 Apr 2016 04:48:51
Agree - Lallana was ordinary in a game where it wasn't hard to look good. I really like him, but he is frustrating to watch.

21 Apr 2016 05:08:13
Basically if lallana improves his end product he will be just as good as firmino IMO. He's got everything else, the jury is still out for me but he's got to push on till the end of the season otherwise we might see a new AM/ winger taking his spot.

21 Apr 2016 07:11:13
Klopp seems to be a great fan of Lallana so I don't think he's in any danger of being replaced. I expect Ojo to eventually overtake him in the reckoning.

21 Apr 2016 10:26:43
WiseRyan you cannot be serious I believe earlier in the season you demonstrated your disgust at Lallana's performances to the extent that you wished him the lowly ranking of a reserve player and that he should be playing with the youngsters (at U21 levels of course! ) . But here we are at blows again as our former Southampton saint and Bournemouth Cherry Adam has turned in a few terrific performances over the past year, certainly under our new German boss Jürgen Klopp (who of course used to manage Borussia Dortmund and 1. FSV Mainz 05). hehehe.

20 Apr 2016 22:34:37
Worst team seen at ANFIELD this season by far, and that was with 11 men!
Embarrassing .

Believable10 Unbelievable3

21 Apr 2016 01:57:32
Martinez will get them relegated next season if they keep him.

20 Apr 2016 22:31:47
I know strikers try to claim goals but is sturridge being a but desperate trying to claim that? It may of touched his arse hair on the way past. Coutinho goal all day long.

Believable8 Unbelievable6

20 Apr 2016 23:12:12
I think he's joking but its coutinho.

21 Apr 2016 03:51:34
He was just teasing Coutinho.

20 Apr 2016 22:31:03
Origi has definitely taught me a lesson. Reserve judgements for a lot longer, After a real good chunk of games he hadn't even shown any glimpses of talent imo, but he looks brilliant these days. So much confidence he is giving every defender who faces him a difficult time at the moment. I am now very willing to give a whole season really to a player.

Believable10 Unbelievable5

20 Apr 2016 22:41:50
Good that!

20 Apr 2016 22:53:34
you can't have watched football that long then to have only just learnt that lesson.

20 Apr 2016 22:58:48
Especially on players who at 20 are joining a new club in a new country, needs time to settle and adjust. However looks a much more physical player with the bulking up and confidence is hugely different since the Klopp era. What can Klopp do with Markovich and the others coming back from loan? Very exciting to see what happens pre-season.

20 Apr 2016 23:04:54
Gunna miss his physicality a lot. Gutted for him. He was on fire and getting better.

Hope it shows people that stones is still a long long way from a top centre back today too, had enough of some of my mates raving about him.

20 Apr 2016 23:13:17
Ya he's going to be a very special player. I hope his injury not to bad.

21 Apr 2016 00:32:39
Seeing him in his first few games for Klopp I said that he looked quite complete, strong, quick, good in the air the only thing he was lacking was goals and confidence and he's definitely got them now.

21 Apr 2016 02:02:41
I always knew Origi was a good young player in Brazil after he kept Lukaku out of the side. His season at Lille was of no interest to me as the manager at the time turned the fans on him as deflection to mask his own incompetence. After the first few games, I was ready to give him time but the day I was sold on him was the Saints game where he had a perfect hatrick. He has gone from strength to strength and I'm gutted for him after that coward stamped on him. Just hope he can make it back cost we truly need him.

20 Apr 2016 22:30:25
Also, has anyone else noticed how many more goals we are scoring at set pieces now. Seems to be since origi has started. Maybe having that one more attacking player with height is causing problems.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

20 Apr 2016 22:55:37
Definitely much more organised at set pieces. Sahko and Lovren combination possibly also having an effect.

21 Apr 2016 02:04:34
Doesn't hurt if you have two CB's who actually communicate instead of playing alongside an aweful CB who can't communicate to save his life. I was referring to Skrtel, by the way.

21 Apr 2016 03:53:00
Agree Fencey, Origi is adding another dimension on set pieces for sure.

20 Apr 2016 22:28:30
Question. Is Sturridge happy at Liverpool. Agree yes disagree no.

Believable14 Unbelievable6

20 Apr 2016 22:48:41
Yes he's happy and it was never not the case, as usual some clueless journo made up a story in some rag and the whole world treats it as fact.
Please ignore everything you read in the truly awful media.

20 Apr 2016 22:57:44
This is one of them 'my mates neighbours dog said' rumours but bare with me! A guy that I work with had family that went to the Dortmund game at anfield. They apparently got tickets from someone related to Sturbridge. After the game sturridge came into the box and started moaning that no one was passing to him instead of celebrating a great win! How true this is, I don't know but it could be a slight in sight into how he's feeling right now if true.

21 Apr 2016 00:11:01
Strikers are selfish, they want goals. Sturridge may be one of those who would be happier with scoring two in a 3-2 loss than none in a 3-0 win. When he scores he is happy.
If origi is out for a bit, he's clearly number one, I really think they should play together when fit mind.

21 Apr 2016 08:31:08
YorkshireRed - that sounds like utter nonsense. Even players aren't that stupid to do that in front of complete strangers! There are also quite a few photos of him celebrating with the lads in the dressing room (the now too common post game selfies) so unless they just hung around until the middle of the night in the off chance that sturridge was going to pay them a visit, why would they still be there so late?

Not to mention that Sturridge saw a lot of the ball including the free kick that we ultimately scored from, which was probably our last chance of the match, being passed to him.

20 Apr 2016 22:21:03
What a result! Great to demolish the bitter blues like that. Love what klopp is doing to this team giving us hope again. To make it even better I had a fiver free bet on Origi first goal and Liverpool 4-0. Nice one the Red men!

Believable7 Unbelievable5

20 Apr 2016 22:49:42
Yes mate :)

20 Apr 2016 22:19:56
Mr Milner, take a bow. I've been one of his biggest critics since he signed but tonight he was superb.
Hope Origi isn't too badly hurt - it looked innocuous when it happened but the replay clearly shows a bad tackle and then Funes Mori adding additional pressure on his ankle instead of pulling out.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

20 Apr 2016 22:29:33
Milner can cross so well, as long as it's not a corner. Anyone wondered whether he should try taking them left footed?

20 Apr 2016 22:45:49
Thats actually a bit funny, Milner seems to nail almost any cross as long as the ball is moving when he hit the ball. On corners and free kicks he seems to hit them to low almost every time. Maybe Milner need a player to roll the ball from spot before crossing.

20 Apr 2016 22:56:23
And he's just ploughed about £150,000 to build a new cricket club and pavilion in my village. Horsforth cricket club (in Leeds. he used to play here as a kid, i drink in the local with his pals and old man. he's an absolute legend here! ) . So happy for him, old fashioned hard work and dedication. Jimmy Case springs to mind.

20 Apr 2016 23:45:53
Didn't know that! I'm from Pudsey but bring my kids over to horsforth park. Good lad Milner! Even if he is a bore.

20 Apr 2016 22:18:13
If ed001 is available I would like an analysis and your opinion of the game ASAP please.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - what can I say about that? We destroyed them, but it is difficult to tell how much was down to them being utterly hopeless and how much was down to our excellence. We were excellent, we did the right things from start to finish but they were a shambles. They do not look like a team and they don't have a single player who can actually defend.

I can't remember ever seeing a more dominant derby win, that could have been 24-0 and they couldn't have complained that the score did not reflect the game. Sakho was imperious at times.

You need to temper the result with the fact they are clearly in disarray, but the way we dealt with them showed we are becoming an excellent well-drilled team. Once they went down to ten, we were exploiting the space brilliantly, constantly switching the ball from flank to flank to pull them all over the place. I could not be happier with that performance. If Klopp can get these players playing like this, imagine how good we will be when he gets his own players in????}

20 Apr 2016 22:31:58
Never seen a team just drop back so deep so early with two banks of four and yet still let our players have so much space. It was arguably one of the worst defensive performances in the premiership for a long time. Although I think that does Liverpool a slight injustice as some of our passing and interplay and the way we utilized the space was phenomenal. My favourite moment was between sturridge coutinho and Moreno down the left where there was a nutmeg a couple of little flicks over people's heads and a fantastic controlled ball across by Moreno, Brilliant!

20 Apr 2016 23:15:49
Completly agree ed. Just got back from the game now and it was embarrassing to watch everton. It was like a training session for us. Sakho was fantastic, won every header against lukaku. The whole team were great.

21 Apr 2016 02:07:35
60 million for Lukaku after being scolded by Sahko? Nonsense!

20 Apr 2016 22:35:23
Thank you for that ed really enjoyed reading that my missus got all paranoid about me smiling at my phone whilst reading lol. Not but I agree I do think the fact everton were poor will be a talking point but I think we made them poor by exploiting the space in behind them and capitalising on their errors. Another thing mate what will the FA do about fines Mori basically celebrating nearly snapping orgis leg shocking behaviour from a professional that. Cheers mate.

{Ed001's Note - that is a good question, it was a shocking tackle and it deserves a big punishment. Celebrating like that was sickening.}

20 Apr 2016 23:50:54
Ed I completely agree about sakho. Every ball out from the back or into the box was Mrs by sakhos head. Not only that but the distance he gets on clearing headers is excellent. Combine that with excellent tracking of his man and tackling he looks a beast of a defender. Now he just needs to do it consistently to be the best in the league.

Also he seems to be a real character. I don't know what his celebration with toure was all about, but he seems to be a favourite amongst the players. Future captain for me.

20 Apr 2016 22:15:01
Hello. My name is Dave, and I'm really happy. That's all I have to share right now, thanks.

41 attempts on goal for Liverpool 3 for Everton, I guess we could say they got lucky tonight.

Believable9 Unbelievable3

20 Apr 2016 22:03:36
Great game, we were excellent, Everton were poor - we made them look as bad as was physically possible, party atmosphere and a great game.

That Funes Mori tackle, and his subsequent reaction (beating his chest) was a disgrace though. Hope he gets a lengthy ban as that was nasty, deliberate and full of spite - he deserves serious games for that. I know it'll probably just be a 3-gamer but it should be much longer.

5am in my part of the world - i'll sleep soundly after that.

Believable9 Unbelievable2

20 Apr 2016 22:15:35
Sweet Dreams mate.

20 Apr 2016 22:52:09
Filthy tackle by Funes Mori. hope they throw the book at him . And his actions whilst walking off the pitch were a disgrace .

Well done lads. great win again.
Hope Origi's ankle sprain heals quickly.

21 Apr 2016 02:09:21
I can't even call Morina dirty player because that's too much of high praise for him. He's more of a coward than anything else.

20 Apr 2016 20:50:13
How many assists is that for milner now this year?

Believable8 Unbelievable3

20 Apr 2016 20:52:13
Glad I stuck up for him while the majority ripped into him. He's not flash but he is quality!

20 Apr 2016 20:56:55
I forgot to put, if he is played out wide, I don't think he is a central midfielder, but is that his fault if he gets out there?

20 Apr 2016 21:32:17
Hem b,

Okay then mate.

20 Apr 2016 22:01:49
Think they said 14 with 2 in both the last two home games. if he kept that up he could out assist ozil which would be an incredible decision.

20 Apr 2016 22:07:34
12 I think.

20 Apr 2016 22:21:32
11 in the league all season.

21 Apr 2016 02:09:55
14 in all comps, I think.

21 Apr 2016 10:41:30
You don't have to tell me Hem b that he's not the flash, for starters the two don't share a name. Secondly having disguised myself and worked closely with the lad this season I can tell you that barry has double the personality and put quite bluntly the SPEED FORCE. Thirdly despite the injunction on the papers I can reveal that barry has a far superior forrest gump impression. Fourthly do you know who I am and what I represent. if you did I don't think you would mention flash in my domain. I am a speed demon and you should fear me and my fazing hand which will surely faze through something if you catch what I'm trying to describe.
yours sincerely
Hunter Zolomon.

20 Apr 2016 19:08:58
Similar team to where at the start of the season we were saying didn't have enough pace with lallana coutinho and firmino off the striker. I quite fancy them three tonight behind a striker like origi, I think the movement will be too much for Everton and origi will have too much pace for funes Mori. Would have liked to see Stewart start as klopp doesn't seem to favour changing the midfielders if we're winning.
I hope him, ojo and Ibe get another game at the weekend, along with smith and flanno!
Come on you reds!

Believable3 Unbelievable2

20 Apr 2016 19:31:45
With bobby madley has ref it could go either way still think we should be to strong tho .

20 Apr 2016 22:31:59
Looks like origi wasn't quite quick enough to get away from funes Mori : (

Similar thing came up in Everton page, but would would your combined merseyside XI be? For me:

-----------------Joel--------------------
-Coleman-lovren-sakho-baines-
----Henderson---barkley---can---
----coutinho---lukaku---firmino---

Thoughts? Also think it shows that evertons team is actually pretty good, saying that rate Barry and Mirallas as well.

Believable1 Unbelievable18

20 Apr 2016 17:23:16
Lucas for Can. Sturridge for Lukaku. Jagielka for Lovren. That'd be what I change. Everything else seems grand to me.

20 Apr 2016 17:26:31
Joel
Flanagan, Lovren, Sakho, Baines
Henderson, Barkley, Can
Coutinho, Sturridge, Firmino

Assuming everyone is 100% fit and in form. Coleman would probably make the team better by geting out wide when Flanagan cuts in, but I would still rate Flanno as the defender.

20 Apr 2016 17:30:38
Mignolet over Joel.

20 Apr 2016 17:39:25
Coleman has not looked good for 2 years.

20 Apr 2016 17:40:09
Should of added more, he is a poor defender who used to offer a lot going forward and now that has even dried up.

20 Apr 2016 17:52:28
Mignolet, Moreno, Sakho, Lovren, Flanno, Hendo, Can, Lucas, Coutinho, Sturridge, Firmino for me. With Mirellas slicing the half time oranges.

20 Apr 2016 17:53:12
Robles
Coleman lovren sakho baines
Can
Hendo Barkley
Coutinho
Sturridge lukaku

Not a massive fan of lukaku to say the least, but goals this season he deserves it, probably pick origi if I was building a building a team for next season.

Subs
Migs Clyne stones Allen Lucas firmino origi.

20 Apr 2016 18:29:47
Perhaps slightly controversially, I would go for:

----------- Joel/ Mignolet (both aren't great tbh) ---
---- Stones ---- Lovren ---- Sakho --------
-- Lallana --- Can --- Henderson --- Coutinho ---
---------------- Firmino ----------------
-------- Sturridge ---- Lukaku ---------

I think such an attacking formation can be supported defensively by the pressing of wide players like lallana and couts, while the strong tackling midfield core of can and henderson allows us to hold up the midfield (firmino can also recover possession for us high up the pitch) . The defence involves two ball playing defenders (sakho and stones) who can start quick counterattacks with their passing (a la Hummels), and I honestly think Lukaku and Sturridge can complement each other nicely - Lukaku holding the ball high up the pitch for Studge, and Sturridge's runs can create space for Lukaku in the box for headers etc (which was the sort of partnership I hoped Studge and Benteke would have at the start of the season! )

Thoughts?

YNWA
Kopchu.

{Ed023's Note - Mignelot; Coleman Lovren Sakho Baines; Barkley Can Henderson Coutinho; Sturridge Firmino.

In my opinion Lukaku is overrated. Barkley gets in to balance it a bit lol}

20 Apr 2016 19:48:36
Id have to agree with Ed023 team. Possibly bringing in the Flanno for coleman if it is a top form Flanno. Currently go with Coleman as flanno is easing back into things!

20 Apr 2016 22:07:38
After tonight, I'd say a combined Liverpool and Everton XI would just be Liverpool's best side.

20 Apr 2016 16:55:51
i think the players now believe in klopp and his way of playing because it shows on the pitch, we have played 2 games where klopp has changed the team and we all know how hard it is to change players for one game and still play well and win, the last few games has shown we are playing consitantly and winning, when we go behind in a game i feel we can still win and after the Dortmund game at anfield it has got all the players at the club playing well, under BR we never had this feeling and if we went behind that would be it, but if we go behind now the players seem to get more hungry and start scoring, if we end the season on a high still winning games then it will be very interesting in the summer and pre-seasonand klopp will add to the quality of the squad, he has already got 2 players who I've never heard of and he will get more players with quality so next season will be a very good one for us and i thonk we will finish in the top 4 easily.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

20 Apr 2016 16:27:41
well reds and eds what's your predictions for tonight, i reckon there will be a red card, i think we will win 4-2,

the pressure on evertons manager will be unbearable if everton lose, if they lose by a big score he might even get the boot, its just my opinion and i said he might not he will, i hope its a good game tonight and the ref let's it flow.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

20 Apr 2016 16:35:40
Think a lot of eyes will be on the officials given the media reaction to games over the weekend. I hope the game is allowed to flow and there aren't too many early yellows that could ruin the game.

20 Apr 2016 16:38:30
I'm going for a 1-1 draw simply because that's what I said on Sunday and we won so I'll try again.

20 Apr 2016 17:31:03
3-0 win.

20 Apr 2016 17:49:44
I expect there'll be little in it, either a draw (2-2) or a narrow 2-1 win tbh.

20 Apr 2016 18:48:00
3-1. Late consolation goal for them. Smooth sailing. Origi, Allen and Origi again to score for us. Jagielka gor them. There you have it, no need to watch now. Go and do the laundry or something.

20 Apr 2016 22:30:05
I'll go for a 4-0 win for us. With a red card for Everton. I got a feeling Origi and Sturridge (coming off the bench) will score. And 1 of our defenders will score as well. Got a feeling 1 of our Brazilian trio will score the 4th.

20 Apr 2016 16:05:55
This post is aimed specifically at MK Scouser but everybody feel free to get involved.

MK I remember you said not so long ago (maybe like a month ago, maybe a wee bit longer) that Klopp was finally getting consistent and the team were playing consistently. Now fair enough following that we went and threw a lead away at Southampton however, generally speaking, I think you were/ are right. I criticised you at the time (for using stats) and thought it was too early to say but, i'll put me hands up, you were right. We have shown far more consistency and it has shown on the pitch.

I've disagreed before over a number of opinions but don't mind admitting being wrong - fair play lad you called it and we are seeing it, long may it continue eh.

Believable16 Unbelievable6

20 Apr 2016 16:15:27
Hats off to seano.

{Ed001's Note - agreed Gazza, it was very big of him to apologise like that. I hope I will be as magnanimous if it ever should happen that I am wrong about something ;-)

20 Apr 2016 16:32:31
Seano I didn't take it personally mate. You're a regular poster here who shares some great views.

I could just as easily have been wrong! Fair play to you for being so humble. You didn't have to though buddy. I never hold grudges. I could just see slight improvements all over the pitch and it just seemed like the true beginning of some actual consistency. After so many false dawns you were understandably skeptical.

Besides, I am the guy who once defended and supported the signing of Balotelli so I'm about as credible as the S*n!

20 Apr 2016 16:55:08
Seano and MK, two good posts lads.

20 Apr 2016 17:09:08
I know you didn't take it personally mate but you were bang on and I was way off and so don't mind saying fair do's, admitting I was wrong and giving you credit were it's due - I've pulled apart a few of your opinions before and so I think it fair to give you credit when you get it right - it's all good man!

Think everybody has had clangers on here when it comes to opinions - I was writing Sturridge off before we signed him - it's the way it goes eh. All good fun. Let's hope for a win tonight!

20 Apr 2016 17:15:41
"Sean and Adam sitting in a tree,

K-I-S-S-I-N-G"

Seriously tho, that's why I keep coming back to this site.

We have our fair share of knobs, but overall we're all pretty reasonable, decent people (not counting Harry in this, of course ;-)

20 Apr 2016 17:33:11
Well done MK and Seano, fair play lads.

20 Apr 2016 17:43:40
Get a room lads, comfort in are doing a deal.

20 Apr 2016 17:54:21
What's going on? Why are fans of the same team on an online forum getting on?

20 Apr 2016 18:51:45
And MK Gandhi is smiling in his heaven.

20 Apr 2016 19:20:13
Get a room haha, well played for admitting you were wrong. let's see ed002 next 😏.

20 Apr 2016 15:50:52
How do Eds and reds, this may have been spoken about before I may even have mentioned it before, anyway does anyone think that maybe Flanagan might work well as a deep holding defensive midfielder. I think his work rate and defensive postioning may work to his and the teams advantage here. Any thoughts, be kind.
Cheers YNWA.

Believable2 Unbelievable9

20 Apr 2016 16:05:05
Why would we do that when in defensive terms he is our best holding mid and we have plenty of people happy to play deep in midfield? Would be an odd move - I'm also doubtful that in that role he would be much better than Spearing was.

20 Apr 2016 16:13:05
I personally don't think his distribution is quit good enough to play that role ie Alonso. can. Allen. Mach . Just my opinion.

20 Apr 2016 16:46:14
I didn't mean a move to that role in a full time capicity just at the moment we are down a couple of midfielders and I felt he could step in a do a very good job breaking up the play and defending our back four. I agree he doesn't have the range of passing that the likes of alonso and co have but could be useful there.
Cheers YNWA.

{Ed001's Note - he was being trained to play that role before he got his run of games at full back. I don't remember it being a particularly successful spell for him in the reserves then, but it was a while ago now so I could be mistaken.}

20 Apr 2016 19:22:06
His passing is always crisp. He smashes in with tj tackle, solid defensively. a lot to say he wouldn't cock it up to much. Still want to find a way to have him in the team, literally for his standard setting tackles. Todays game for example 30 seconds put Barkley on. his ass, you can sub. him then. if you want.

20 Apr 2016 15:32:11
Would you rather:
1.) Win the Europa League and finish 8th
OR
2.) Finish 4th but don't win the Europa League

Winning the Europa League would be nice as its always good to win trophys but on the other hand finishing 4th would probably make other teams and potential transfer targets take us more seriously.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

20 Apr 2016 15:52:51
Come on Hounsred.

Win Europa and finish 8th. Football is all about winning trophies not finishing 4th every year. Ask Arsenal.

20 Apr 2016 15:52:52
Win the Europa League and finish 8th. We go into the Champions league anyway, and attract transfer targets.

20 Apr 2016 15:53:54
You get CL through winning Europa league so bit of a no brainer. Trophy and CL.

20 Apr 2016 16:01:41
Trophies mate, all about trophies.

20 Apr 2016 16:35:51
I would take the EL and finish bottom half for all I care (except for relegation of course) . Champions league spot and a trophy.

20 Apr 2016 16:43:20
win the europa league and finish 4th :) ), but its a decision between a cup now or entering another cup competition which we will find very difficult to win, so its the europa for me.

20 Apr 2016 13:31:39
Has everyone given up on getting 4th in the league?

I mean i know the probability is very small, but it's still doable.

If you look at each team's maximum points return from here it makes for interesting reading.

Arsenal: 75pts
Man City: 73pts
United: 71pts
Liverpool: 69pts
West Ham: 68pts

5 teams into 2 places.

One loss from United and a draw and a loss from City and we could leapfrog them both.

Granted this means winning every single game from now until the end of the season, but looking at our fixtures this seems entirely possible. Only Newcastle have anything left to play for, and they are poor at best.

Anyway, nothing like a little bit of mindless optimism from time to time. Just hoping for a solid win tonight with no injuries.

All the best everyone

YNWA.

It's possibly but considering the small number of games, not likely. This situation a few weeks ago made it likely, but today it's just too far for me.

20 Apr 2016 13:40:50
I thought I was the only one with any hope left for top 4.

20 Apr 2016 13:46:06
I swear to god, if martin skrtel hadnt handed southampton a 3-2 win from nothing, we would have gone on to claim 4th.

Unfortunately, we still have players like that in the team.

20 Apr 2016 13:47:01
Oh and United have to play Leicester and City travel to Soton and play Arsenal at home.

20 Apr 2016 14:22:05
My sentiments exactly. Top 4 is not over. If we win our next two games including the derby, then we are in it for real.

20 Apr 2016 14:42:10
This may sound crazy but I would just be happy if we got the 69 points. It would mean we would have been consistent in last 6 games and it would have been a decent second half season (aside from the odd game or two)

If we only win three more games this season then let them be in the Europa cup and tonight (we can draw the away leg against Villareal! )

20 Apr 2016 14:58:37
The way teams are going at the moment I think we have to believe. If nothing else to keep the momentum going which will be a plus for Europa. We definitely need to win our last 6 games to have a shot but at the moment I think we have a great chance of achieving that. If we do that and come 6th then so be it there would still be a lot of positives moving into next year! Still feel Europa league is the better opportunity but I see us winning and united drawing a blank tonight which certainly would make it very interesting!

20 Apr 2016 14:53:21
Anonymous, you are a fool if you think that one man was responsible for the loss to Southampton. There were just as many mistakes by others as there were by Skirtle.

20 Apr 2016 15:12:46
Man Utd are definitely catchable, the real targets are City and Arsenal who still have to play each other.

Win all our games and I reckon we will do it. Given a choice though I'd rather win the Europa. Both would be nice.

20 Apr 2016 15:39:44
Until it's mathematically impossible, we have to believe 😁.

20 Apr 2016 15:58:54
Yes, 4th is important but given the difficulty of the task and how much it is dependent on others' (mis) steps, I would focus on winning the Europa League. We win a trophy and end up in Champions League for next season. With some really good luck maybe we can do both.

20 Apr 2016 16:17:03
City have to play Arsenal and S'ton so it's entirely feasible they lose one and draw one, if we win all our game I think we'll get 4th but that's a very tough ask in the PL so let's just take it a game at a time and see what happens.

Main focus should be EL as we only have to win 2 more games there (assuming the 2 leg won't need two wins)

20 Apr 2016 17:56:33
The problem is will we put out 'weaker sides' on weekends and save the big boys for midweek, ie the Europa league.

20 Apr 2016 18:59:22
City play So'ton away in between their CL semi vs Real. If I'm betting on that one my money will be on So'ton. Arsenal have a decent chance to beat City away. Manure will end up on about 65 pts, so with 15-16 points from our 6 games we could just steal 4th.

20 Apr 2016 12:33:55
I've been trying to work out whether or not the Europa League is worth it financially. Not because it's important, just because I'm interested, this is what I've figured out. Obviously the big money is in the Premier League and the Champions League, we stand to receive somewhere in the region of £90-95m from the Premier League this year, last year we earned around £27m from our CL adventure and single tie in the Europa League (City earned £36m from their campaign) .

Trying to figure out how much we'll get from the Europa League is complicated, in prize money we'll receive just over £6m if we get knocked out in the semis and a little over £11m if we win. However we also get money from the TV rights. How much we'll get is very hard to work out, UEFA don't specify how it's calculated but basically the money is shared between the associations with the biggest getting the most (i. e the Premier League) . That slice is then divided again between the competing teams from that association with the largest share going to who goes the furthest (i. e. us) . I can't accurately predict what it will be but going by previous years and this year's increase our share could be anywhere from £7-£12m.

If you tie in the £2.4-£3.2 we'll make depending on whether we win or lose the Super Cup next year we potentially stand to make up to £26m if we can the EL this year. That is certainly not small fry, especially when you consider there will be a healthy amount of match-day revenue as well. I like winning trophies and I like Liverpool getting money. The Europa League gives us both :)

20 Apr 2016 13:07:20
Definitely worth it for me, it's another potential trophy, it's a another way to get in CL, it also gives fringe players the opportunity to impress, which they wouldn't get otherwise!
Plus if we wasn't in it we wouldn't have had the Dortmund game and all that came with it.

20 Apr 2016 13:16:24
It's interesting to know that. It doesn't change my opinion though. The Europa league is the second biggest trophy in Europe behind the CL. For me it's harder to win than it is credited to be. The only reason I'd rather a league title is because it's been so long since that last happened. If we were in Chelsea, Man U or City's shoes though (winning the league regularly) I'd rather win the Europa league.

The money is irrelevant to me. I won't see any of it lol. All I care about is trophies. If that money helps, cool. I want to see the players wearing medals and dancing with a cup under red confetti. Sod the money. I'm in it for the entertainment and European competitions are the pinnacle of that.

20 Apr 2016 13:46:46
Interesting Muscatred but I think probably oversimplified to show anything. Attached to everything there is tv money. Then there are sponsorship deals. Then this is the additional costs of lumping between 25 and 60 people around for every game. Then Taxes take their pieces. Then there is the reputation and media gain. List goes on and on.

20 Apr 2016 13:47:02
You tried to work out whether its financially efficient to win a certain trophy? Wow this is what football has come to.

20 Apr 2016 14:26:26
The EL is defo more difficult to win than the CL because you play so many more games thru out the continent and the team that wins it has DEFO deserved it. I disagree with Muscat. The EL is a European trophy that is always good to win. Rafa almost made the final in 2010 had we not lost on away goals to AM. The prestige from winning a European trophy cannot be quantified financially even if a CL berth was not attached to it hence, we go win it, end of.

20 Apr 2016 16:29:15
Hey woolback, this wasn't one of my weird stats things, I was just interested how much we stood to make if we won it as everyone's always saying there's no money in it.

20 Apr 2016 15:47:12
When we look back in history, no-one will care about the financial rewards of winning trophies, just the trophy with our name etched on it.

20 Apr 2016 12:33:07
My thoughts on tonights lineup is diamond formation with 2 up top. Would really like to see Dan and Divock link again with Cout behind feeding them. I'd put Milner, Allen and Lucas/ Stewart in the midfield. Also would like to see Flanno get a game today with Clyne at left back instead of Moreno.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

20 Apr 2016 14:27:39
The diamond formation has worked for us under Klopp (vs the Saints in the LC and vs BVB in the second half) so I wouldn`t mind that myself.

20 Apr 2016 15:51:05
I believe Divock is injured?

20 Apr 2016 16:28:26
Late fitness check was the latest I saw hwb, unless something new was confirmed. Would like to have him in the squad at least!

20 Apr 2016 16:36:22
He passed a fitness test I believe.

20 Apr 2016 17:57:59
If not Sturridge and firmino up top, coutinho in behind still!

20 Apr 2016 11:47:41
Sorry if been asked before but curious if anyone can provide some info on grujic. Have tried to look into him over past view months and can only find highlights (which make Sunday league look like the premiership) and a sky review on him.

Sky review is odd as starts by comparing him to matic and how he has great tactical sense and reading of the game. then finishes saying he should play behind striker or winger. so genuinely have no idea what to make of the lad!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

20 Apr 2016 12:10:04
I highly doubt anyone here would give an honest review about the player rather pure speculation. The player claims himself as the new version of Matic and hence the holding midfielder comparison. The posters here have already labeled him as a the next Alonso.
I expect the kid to take at least 3 good years to make it to the league and its physicality.

20 Apr 2016 13:34:02
Serbian version of emre can but can score.

20 Apr 2016 14:31:32
There are some great short videos on youtube that don't pick out the players best moments, but instead show every time they touched the ball in any given match- so they show both good and bad touches.
These vids are a million miles from watching a player live, but since we can't get to belgrade or many other european games, watching them might give you some kind of idea what cockups a player is prone to, as well as what tjings they do well.
Grujic looks a pretty decent player from the match-touch compilations I've watched.

20 Apr 2016 11:13:48
Well reds it's derby day! And I for one I'm looking forward to this one I think we will batters the BS today I'm going for a 3-0 with firmino first goal followed by a orgi and Sturridge goal what are your predictions lads?

Believable6 Unbelievable2

20 Apr 2016 11:41:27
Hard to say, imo Everton have a fantastic squad but a terrible manager. However, do better away from home.

Him Klopp goes with the side he plans to play against Villarreal, but hoping a nice relaxing 3-0 and in a perfect world would see origi scoring to keep his confidence high as has been turning a corner recently.

20 Apr 2016 12:42:42
The have 3 good players . that there problem they think they have a good squad . Look at there match winners they have 2 players who can turn the game on there heads.

20 Apr 2016 14:30:11
They have 4 good players but a severely incompetent manager who will get them relegated in the next two years like he did to Wigan if they don`t sack him, ASAP.

20 Apr 2016 10:56:58
Let's stick the knife into Martinez's Everton career tonight! Then it's up to him to stop anyone from twisting it.

YNWA!

20 Apr 2016 12:15:24
It hardy ever goes the way form says it should. I fancy 5-1 to us but wouldn't be at all surprised if the blues nicked a 1 nil. Hope destroy them. Already spoilt my Saturday what a choice mancs or Blues for a cup final . Hope they have a 22 man brawl an both get banned.

20 Apr 2016 12:34:27
Don't turn into them John - if they can win the FA then good on them as long as they don't embarrass us in Europe!

20 Apr 2016 14:31:11
With Martinez in charge, he has been embarrassing them for two seasons now and that is not about to change, Hijkle.

20 Apr 2016 16:07:29
Thats true but they've also had a fair number of decent days under him, just utterly lacking consistency. As long as they can get out of the groups in Europa I don't care.

20 Apr 2016 10:36:49
Just wanted to say I was at the Newcastle-City game last night and when sterling came on every time he was involved he was hissed by the crowd. Nice to see other fans still hate him.
