Fergusson reportedly asking about Hector Herera (spelling), I so him playing for Mexico at the olympics and thought he was fantastic and could easily fit into BR's system of play.
I guess we we only have the money to spend on first team players, but would love to see this guy playing for us.

Ed02, there's talk of another striker, first of all do you think we will sign a striker (if or if not Carroll leaves) and if you do who do you think would be on a short list of replacements, cheers.
Red dog.

Hi ed , any truth in the gossip that we are finally looking at a big striker in the 10-15 m bracket instead of demsey. Any move dependant on Adam sale. If so any news on who this might be ? I have heard that it might be a big star.

I am thinking that it might be more likely to be a loan due to unlikely caroll sale.

Seriously what big star is on the market for 10-15m? Id take dempsey over any striker in that price range!
JOZLFC

EDoo2 mentioned Lopez, Negredo, and possibly Llorente.

20 Aug 2012 20:38:57
Hey eds do you think that the owners are still preoccupied with all the troubles with the red sox it seems to be all espn can talk about over here, also hoping for a striker

Texan red

You have finally spotted the problem.
Red Sox lost a bomb last season so a big makeover is underway to revamp the team.Result the cash is being spent in Boston not Merseyside. BR has to sell to buy ,problem is thanks to King Kenny there isn't anything decent to sell so slimpickens as the say stateside is the future for LFC.

20 Aug 2012 20:32:02
Ed's, what is availability status of Mauro Zárate?
Could be a cheap substitute if Andy leaves.

20 Aug 2012 20:31:23
ed002, do you see more players arriving at liverpool before august 31st please

20 Aug 2012 20:26:05
Hi eds. With Liverpool appearing to have no interest in Ramirez, do you Suarez has said something that has put Liverpool off the transfer. To young, bad attitude, or simply not good enough. Just a thought. Cheers. Deejay.

No, but the owners hopefully don't listen to players on who to buy. I would sign Ramirez though

We held talks with his agent a few weeks ago.

Not sure Suarez would be the right man to ask in that situation.

20 Aug 2012 20:18:34
nothing on zarate ed?
5 gold stars

20 Aug 2012 20:18:26
hey eds

what is the likelihood of us getting isco? i think he would be a good buy..if not what are the chances of us getting an attacking minded midfielder which i think we desperately need..

gerrad allen and lucas can be all defensive mid..gerrad getting older and worser..

thanks

lucas

Why should we splash on a young spanish attacking midfielder when we already have one on the books... SUSO!!

A front 6 of:

Assaidi Falcao Suarez
Allen Ramirez Lucas

2 players, prob 50mil needed, but sell Carroll, Downing, Adam, Spearing even Hendo or Agger if need be. But surely its time to sign a couple of stars and get back into top 4.

20 Aug 2012 19:56:29
Hi Ed's...what are the chances of Adam Johnson coming to Liverpool? I would live to see him play for us

We have enough attitude, form and fitness problems at the moment

AJ is a poor mans Downing. Poor work ethic, cant last 90 minutes and no end product, hes not what we need in my opinion.

20 Aug 2012 19:52:02
Hi eds appreciate all the work you do.
PSG have suggested that Gamiero is available this summer, I see him as perfect for liverpool. Could you please tell me what kind of a price he is valued at by PSG? Maybe around 10 mil euro (plus Vat, agent fees. etc.)?
Also more importantly would gamiero be interested in the move?

Thanks

Puzzled Red

We'd have to pay pretty massive wages for him i'd say. As always, transfer fees are not the issue, it's wages.

20 Aug 2012 19:41:55
Would Alvaro Negredo be a possibility is Andy carrol is sold eds ? Is he available and how much would he cost ?

Red man

He'd cost quite a bit i'd think. Worth every cent though!!

Red7.

20 Aug 2012 19:23:40
Hi eds is Alan Dzagoev still a free agent in Januaury and do you think he would be an option for us.

Simoky {Ed002's Note - Not going to happen man.}

Think of the wages being offered to foreign player to leave their respective leagues and shack up in places like Moscow and St Petersburg. Now think of possibly the most promising player Russia have at the moment. Now think about the amount of money that will be thrown at him to stay in Moscow... It'd be a disgusting amount of money, that only one or two clubs throughout Europe would even consider competing with.

20 Aug 2012 18:45:05
Hi Ed thanks for doing a great job sir.

Can you answer this question is there any truth behind us and isco ?

20 Aug 2012 18:37:21
Hey Eds, what's happening with Callejon? Any chance of getting him? Also is there the possibility of Granero?

20 Aug 2012 20:54:27
Not Liverpool related, but Everton look strong there all over Utd to be fair. But you know it'll get to 90 mins 0-0 then Van Persie will probably score a late winner it's just the Manc luck...
Skurks

Everton are a decent side with good players, Fellaini has been incredible tonight, and that's what you get when you believe in a manager and give him 10 years

Why do u care so much if you support Liverpool ? If your that impressed with everton or the mancs then go support them instead.....sick of fans posting about other teams on here

Andy

Wish our guys had the balls that Everton have, they've gone at Utd all night and got what they deserved. Puts it into perspective though Utd losing their first game.

After seeing what Joe Allen got booked for saturday, Can't believe Vidic got away with that shirt pull.

Tommy Walsh

Not tonight dear boy, not tonight! looks like ole whiskey noses spawny luck has finally run out

Everton 1 United 0

oh I love it !
tel 1949

No manc look this time..

No luck this time, were level on points with the Mancs after the first game then.
So all the doom merchants, not the disaster you thought then.

I was wrong lol things maybe on the change...
Skurks

Everton have a good team and have made some good buys unlike some team I know...

Wish we would have signed Felliani after we played Standard Liege a few years ago instead of Everton. Quality player.

20 Aug 2012 20:47:30
Who actually wants Walcott? I' think hed be a very good signing and he's a Liverpool supporter and wants to play for us! Tbh anyone would be better then downing but still what does everyone think?

If he comes and regularly plays down the middle then he could be a good addition

He's got pace but not much else

Id rather see sterling given a chance

20 Aug 2012 20:47:15
I think we've got to take 4pts from the Home City and Arsenal games out of the next 4 games... big ask but will be great for team confidence.

20 Aug 2012 20:46:20
de gea is really showing what a good keeperhe is here tonight

Athletic Bilbao want £15.7m for fernando Llorente, as he has one year left on his contact.
Brendan please go all out for him and get him as our new number 9. He is just what we need.
Sell Carroll to Newcastle for £15m then we can say we bought Llorente for Carroll.....which doesn't make selling Carroll for a £20m loss too bad.
RedRocket

Would Llorente come that's the thing?
He did slate us in away on YouTube if you look for it?
Skurks

Would be a serious bargain for whoever gets him at that price!

Square tomato

Is he that much better than Carroll? Bilbao didn't exactly play pass and move.

Good one..but he dont wanna come..unless we offer him someting big

20 Aug 2012 20:44:52
We need lewandowski. He would fix our problems.
AnfieldUSA

I don't think Jim could fix your problems. Get rd of Gerard and Carrigher. That would be a start

Yes or someone in that mould.

LFC 2 - man city 1

I'm expecting a poor start to first 1/2 season, but i think we win this game. I picture us holding on for dear life for at least 15-20 minutes but i just feel we will win it. It would be great to have another top notch goal scorer though!

gareth

You might want to book the rest of the week of mate and get to the doctors.

You have got to be kidding me, with your woeful display and by no means did we play well but still won (sign of champions) are you going to win, at anfield never going to be easy but with agger banned and tevez playing well, i'm going for a 1-0 city win but wouldn't be suprised if it was more, you guys need to sort it or else you'll be the next leeds!
Jack

20 Aug 2012 20:40:06
jagielka hadasmuch contact on welbeck then as agger had on long

Did you not see schole tackle from behind two footed

Vidic not booked for his late shirt pull bringing the player down

A seasonal Rant, if i may.

1) Is it just me or are people being way over critical of Suarez? Not his character, but the fact he missed chances i mean.
I would personally he missed them but made the chance possible, either with some great movement off the ball, or beating players on it! Its one game and yes i know he missed plenty last year but he also did some wonderful stuff. His talent is up there with some of the LFC greats.
Personally i think people should be a little more patient and wait until at least christmas.

I truly think he is going to bag a shed load of goals this season, by which time all you moaning at him will have conveniently forgotten your comments and be saying how great he is and all this YNWA bull crap which is used without reason on this site far too much.

Gareth

Gareth- I don't think many (if any) are denying Suarez's talent, they (me included) just think he's not suited to be a central striker which is where BR has put him thus far. Let Borini (or Carroll, I suppose) play centrally and let Suarez go wide and then Suarez will have more options to either pass or have a crack at it, not just take relatively low percentage shots.

I can't be critical of Suarez because he's usually our only threat...amazing that he couldn't stop scoring for all his previous clubs and for Uruguay but can't buy one for us...we need to play him on either side of a goal poacher as a playmaker

People have to realise that Suarez creates his own chances, often in tight crowded areas with defenders throwing themselves at him. His conversion rate is always going to be lower than a poacher who knocks one in from 3 yards

Do people forget Suarez scored 30-40 goals a season for Ajax? He knows where the goal is and proves this for Uruguay too. Problem is, he tries to take on every opportunity because there's no one else who can hit the back of the net

21 Aug 2012 10:07:11
Suarez is the best No. 7 since King Kenny. Considering Beardsley and Macca both wore No. 7 that's a massive compliment. He makes chances out of nothing. BR has to realise that he needs someone to play in front of him. We all knew that last season

20 Aug 2012 19:47:50
hi Ed's just wondering how downing gets in the starting 11 still, henderson is better on the wing than downing. i was expecting stirling to get some minutes on saturday. {Ed001's Note - clearly because the manager disagrees with you.}

Henderson better than Downing on the wing?
Mate get off the bash Downing band wagon its getting bloody pathetic. Hendo is no wide player in any way. Good young player but it was clear to see his position is not out wide and is the reason he got bashed every week on this site last year! Downing is a very good player and we will see the best of him this season

20 Aug 2012 19:29:05
Eds great site been on here watchn for 2 years

Just wondering it yous or anyone cud help me ... Assaidi has played a europa league match of his old club i was wondering can he play for us in the europa league ? It was just a qualifier cheers

Darzokid {Ed001's Note - he will be eligible for the group stages (if we get there).}

20 Aug 2012 20:28:47
not a rumour, just a question-
i missed the west brom game, so would anyone please tell me how our new boys played? and also do you feel assaidi is a good deal for around £3 mill? thanks :)

Allen was our best player. Borini didn't really do anything. Assaidi will be a good signing. Redevon

Look at the score line, this will give you a good indication

I'll give it a go for you mate
Allen in my opinion was our best player, for the first half anyway. His passing stats were incredible and he looked calm and composed in the middle of the field, especially well as it was his debut.
Borini was wasted out wide and should have been played through the middle and maybe he wouldn't have wasted the chances that Suarez did.
Assaidi is a skilful player who is quick on the turn and also has a decent shot on him. I would suggest YouTube if you haven't already done so. In today's climate I don't think you can go wrong by signing a Moroccan who starts ahead of taarabt for around 3 mil.
Bean

I wouldn't need to watch Assaidi play to know he's a better deal than Downing

20 Aug 2012 20:27:53
I know we are only one game in but i am concerned that yet again we are unable to put the ball in the net, a whole host of chances against WBA that went begging. Suarez has all the ability in the world but his finishing is so frustrating as its so hit an miss (no pun intended). He is always going to chip in with goals but he is never going to be the 20+ goals a season striker that we need!!

Rvp first few seasons at Arsenal were'nt prolific.
Liverpool have been an unsettled club the whole time that Suarez has been here?
So on that premise? I think he's done fantastically well.
We should just thank God he's our player and not playing for a successful settled side like the scummers!! How good would he be then??

cant believe we could lose Gaston Ramirez to Southampton and Adam Johnson to Sunderland just bid for them Rodgers class players

Class players?explain how there class

Have either of those players actually signed for the clubs?!

20 Aug 2012 18:15:16
Eds.please tell why alot of people are over reacting about about losing 1 game on saturday. If am right we have a new manager with a new style of play. Lucas played his first league game for 6/8 months. Allen was playing his first game for lfc. Plus borini was playing his first game in the prem league. We had 2 poor decision's against us. We played ok the first half then looked nervous when they scored. Two weeks ago everyone was saying lets be patient give rogers time. Now some people are saying we are not good enough. Lets get behind the team. We need a good striker and a good winger as downing is not the answer imo.We will get better without doubt sorry for the long post but we are LIVERPOOL fans the best fans in the world lets show it.

buddy's lfc {Ed001's Note - mostly because they are impatient. They seem to think everything should be handed to them on a plate, without any hard work involved.}

If fans from the outside attended Anfield on a european night then we have a case to say (and im sure they would agree) that LFC fans are the best around. If they popped on to this page they would think very little of us, as over the last two years it has got increasingly worse with vile abuse of our players and management.

20 Aug 2012 20:24:08
Weve no money for major transfers and cant even compete on wages anymore.Nothing will happen until we sell. Last few season transfers are a joke. Panic buy carroll and fanny adam bought because he could take corners, the warning signs were there when ferguson was singing his praises. God help us

20 Aug 2012 19:55:46
Don't be too worried if there is not a lot of rumours in the papers, because I believe that Rodgers is doing plenty of work to get new signings in, look at Assaidi, nobody knew he was going to sign until the last minute, so there is definitely a lot of work going on to bring in signings to strengthen the team :)

YNWA

Think you're spot on with this, people are forgetting BR may be a young manager but he has a background in European Football and the respect of a man like Jose Mourhino. The Sahin deal might not go through but the fact he was even talking to us shows BR has influence. The owners have given him 3 years, by my reckoning we've been close to the title 3 times in 21 years, this should temper our expectations, the truth is the successes and jibes or our rivals are turning us on our own team, YNWA isn't a catchphrase it's a philosophy lets come together support the team, Manager and owners and just maybe we'll see that "golden dawn". Ged

20 Aug 2012 19:47:50
Anyone got news on Pacheco? Heard he is discussing deals, saw he played for the reserves and looks like he played well, not sure why Rodgers would sell, fits the system, creative and young, would prefer him starting to Downing..

Spot on. he was exciting to watch pre season.

Cudge

Did not play well, missed two sitters in a game we should have sealed and won
Not convinced his head is right for first team football

Pacheco was woeful and looks further away from the first team than he was 2 years ago. I don't know why Suso wasn't involved today - hopefully because he might get some action against Hearts in midweek.

If he's not involved against Hearts it will just show why Liverpool are so average nowadays. Hammer throwers like Coady and Rodden are preferred to class acts like Suso and Texeira.

20 Aug 2012 19:47:00
Brendan says the penalties were harsh, maybe, but both self inflicted and avoidable. Players go down too easy these days, looked at the Hazard penalty over and over and don't see any contact ( another Ashley Young :-) on the other hand Alcaraz bundled Torres off the ball ( shoulder says the ref, don't think so )

Don't like Hazard but that was a clear penalty...he tapped the ball ahead and the defender impeded him from easily getting the ball...and there was a lot of contact...our penalties were from naive defending, smart diving and bad refereeing

20 Aug 2012 19:46:50
Brendan must be asking for trouble if he buys negredo, then plays him and Suarez against united.
Another 8 match ban if Suarez asks for the ball lol

20 Aug 2012 19:15:34
Over the years I've looked at Valencia and marvelled, inspired by this team's ability to produce and/or put together talented and competitive teams, in spite of the Real and Barca factors and huge debts.
Juan Mata, David Villa, David Silva, Jordi Alba, Raul Albiol, Vicente, Roberto Soldado, Adil Rami. Exceptional footballers.
All at more or less insignificant cost.

Borussia Dortmund is another club that's been excelling at this in recent years. Mario Gotze, Neven Subotic, Mats Hummels, Nuri Sahin, Shinji Kagawa, Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus. Exceptionally gifted players, coveted by the very elite, some of whom already having moved to top clubs.

The fundamental similarity between these clubs is that they aren't big spenders and payers, precisely like us. But precisely unlike us, they an exceptional faculty of producing and acquiring top talent at insignificant cost (Kagawa at £300 000 was just too shrewd), turn them into world class material and stay competitive and attractive.

Why haven't we been able to do the same? There's absolutely no way we could go mano a mano for players with City, United Chelsea, Milan teams, Bayern and hell even Arsenal.
We need to change tack and simply go about our business differently.

The starting is accepting our present status as non-elite, financially-restricted, and uncompetitive and understanding that some players are no-hopers. Cavani, Hulk, Subotic, Hummels, Sahin, Lewandowski, Damaio, Gotze, Higuain, Eriksen and a thousand others are quite frankly pipe dreams, presently anyway.

But the world doesn't end there, though as talent is there and at none of the ridiculous cost of the aforementioned.
Jan Vertonghen, Salomon Rondon, Isco, Eduardo Vargas, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele, Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita, Olivier Giroud, Adrian Lopez, John Guidetti, Ibrahim Afellay, Matias Suarez, Nathaniel Clyne, Gylfi Sigurdsson etc.

Some of these are already immense players, and some have the potential to develop into very exceptional footballers. All attainable or already attained at remarkably low to insignificant cost; relatively low wages, too.

Crucially, too, is our youth, which, imo, can be our future and play perhaps the most important role of getting us back up again.
Raheem Sterling and Suso, in particular, have all the makings of world, world class footballers who can save any club millions. They're unique talents who, properly nurtured and with the right attitude, will win this many, many games.

Similarly, lads like Jack Robinson, Andre Wisdom, Conor Coady, Jordan Ibe and Adam Morgan can become very good too.

Obviously, all of this will need time and patience, from the owners, fans and players themselves.
Nevertheless, it's roadmap well worth following, especially also owing to the stadium issue.

Fellas, we can be realistic and progressive in our thinking and following the example set by Dortmund and Valencia in talent recruitment and development, or we can keep deluding our yourselves clamouring for Cavani, Hulk, Higuain etc, believing that we have even the snowball's chance of getting them, that we're an elite side that should be eating at the elite table with the elite boys.
That path, gentlemen, leads to disappointment and misery (as seen on here with the Sahin saga) when delusions are shown to be just that, delusions.

BARNEY

Great post barney

tom1975

Valencia dare to give chance young talent Liverpool not. last time they give chance was Gerrad and he is hit.

Great post. Would be good to retain the odd star we develop every now and then though.

Top post. An oasis in the desert
AD

I totally agree. I think alot has to do with managers being scared to play the younger players. How can they go on to become great players if they aren't played more in the first team? I always thought Insua was a shrewd buy, but for whatever reason he ate too much, went to spain where he ate less, lost weight and is now a little cracker, who I wish we still had in our side. I think Suso should be at least on the bench, along with Sterling every match, maybe starting. We do seem to be in a bit of disarray, which is why I think BR deserves at least a few years in charge.

Nick

The problem Liverpool have had in the past is turning talented youngsters into first team players. There have been many cases in the last ten years where very talented youth players have failed to make the grade. The club has to look at the reasons for this as they simply can't afford to compete in the transfer market as you have rightly commented.

I agree with you in a lot of ways, but one of the difficulties I think LFC has in trying follow more of a BVB-ish model is that the employment laws would seem to make this difficult. I think it would have been difficult for example for us to get Kagawa even if he had been identified. Same for trying to find young players from South America. It's not overly relevant against other teams in the PL though since we all play by the same rules there, but it does make things a bit more difficult I think.

Great post mate.

Phooey...

The bitters do it every year!! all on a shoestring you gotta hand it to moyes keeps them competitive year after year if he had money he'd be scary, they have a good start to the season like tonight and stay consistent they'll be easy top six

Sounds good in theory. But if that was realistic, then there's no reason why any team in the league such as Aston Villa, Fulham, Norwich etc couldn't do the same? But you're never going to see these teams near the top of the premiership. The hard fact is that it's the clubs with money at or near the top. That's just the way it works! Sadly we no longer have money to truly compete at that level.

20 Aug 2012 18:59:23
Whats the situation with Ever Banega, better than Sahin in my opinion, the guys pure class. Why is there no interest?

Coz we're LFC and don't bid for class player's no more!

Lots of comments today - both here and elsewhere, about us needing a "proven goalscorer"

I'd qualify that in a couple of ways - we need an EPL-ready winger who can score a few and generate assists on a consistent basis, and we need more depth overall to our attacking line-up. Given that we've lost Kuyt, Maxi & bellamy and brought in two relative rookies - Borini and Assaidi, we certainly look flimsy up front. Sterling and Morgan both have talent but neither can be expected to play that many games in the EPL this year, unless we are really short of funds. We also need to sort out whatever it is that is causing our goalscorers to not score - thats been an issue for a few seasons now.

If you look at the stats, we do have two "proven goalscorers" - Carroll and Suarez. In the Erevidisie, Suarez averaged more than a goal every two games over 3 and a half seasons, whilst Carroll's goals-per-game ratio for Newcastle in the EPL half-season prior to joining us was a similar level (I'm ignoring the Championship and cups). Clearly there is a lot of difference in the quality of the Eredivisie and the prem (just look at the comedy goalkeeping on the Assaidi montage on the offical website to get a flavour). Kuyt averaged a goal every two games in the Eredivisie and a goal every four games (roughly) for us.

Since joining us, Suarez has averaged a goal every three EPL games and Carroll has averaged a goal every six appearances (a fair few sub apps here). By contrast Torres averaged 3 goals in every 5 games, but roughly 4 in every 5 in his first three seasons and then 1-in-3 ish in his last half season for us. Since joining Chelsea, he has managed around 1 in 6. In his first spell at LFC, Fowler scored 1 in 2 and Owen scored a smidge above 1 in 2. Neither scored quite so freely after leaving.

We are however continuing to create chances - last years woodwork hitting and penalty missing record looked freakish until Saturday when we again failed to convert chances, but in truth this has been a growing problem for a while (as Torres' demise demonstrated)- and simply bringing in yet another "proven goalscorer" won't achieve much if whoever we bring in suffers from the same malaise. Perhaps a good hypnotist or sports psychologist would be a better investment :-)

Of the other two attacking players we've seen depart - Maxi averaged a goal every three games (amd most of his 15 EPL goals were scored under Daglish?) and Bellamy scored 1 in every 4 EPL games. FYI -Gerrard scored 5 in 18 last term, a marginal improvement on the season before. The ugly stats are owned by Downing, no goals and assists as we all know. Interestingly his cup form is much closer to his Villa EPL stats (but not really as good as his Middlesboro' stats) - he already has one goal in the EuL this season, and scored twice and made two assists in the cup last season. FYI - Maxi's goals/games ratio for LFC was pretty much the same as it was for A Madrid.

But I maintain that our problems are as much mental as physical - yes the cup games are often against sub-EPL opposition, but the stats for all our players look much more like what you'd expect from them if all was well in the prem - even Andy Carroll managed nearly a goal every two cup matches. There have been glimpses of what we can do - in those heady early days of the Dalglish honeymoon we scored fairly freely in the EPL and as we showed against Chelsea at the tail end of last season when the pressure's off, we have much less trouble putting it away.

So, either none of our strikers are really quite good enough to hack it at the highest level (including Suarez), OR there is some other issue, perhaps pyschological, that's stifling our goalscoring abilities. Adding Llorente, Huntelaar or Darren Bent won't necessarily solve this - and are any of these really BR style players?

In terms of BR's own track record as a manager, well no-one at Swansea was particularly prolific last season - top scorer Graham managed 1 in 3, Sinclair 1 in 5 and Dyer 1 in 7 (all approx). Sigurdsson's brief stint was the most prolific contribution in terms of goals/games ratio - scoring roughly 2 in 5. Swansea scored 44 goals, 3 less than Liverpool. In the championship, Borini was fairly prolific for BR - 2 in 3, but in Serie A, he managed about 1 in 3 (but how many full apps to sub apps I've no idea).

Having got rid of two EPL-seasoned and relatively consistent players in Maxi and Kuyt (tho' both went through feast and famine goalscoring periods in truth) as well as Bellamy, we are clearly light up front. Borini is talented but not really a proven goal threat just yet. Downing is a long way off his best and does he really offer sufficient quality even when he is on top form? Suarez can do better but needs to share the load. Gerrard will be important but has only managed a half a season in each of the last two. Yes Adam Johnson could help, but only in part. I can't see all these issues being resolved before the window closes and getting the best out our existing players will take time and patience. Of all the big target men being touted by the fans, Llorente is probably the nearest match for our needs and BR's style of play, but I'd rather we bought a poacher.

We need to recover our confidence in front of goal - do that and it will like buying a new "proven goalscorer". We create enough scoring chances already. Patience not panic is the watchword - yes, we need to add to our attacking options and ensure that no individual feels that the pressure to deliver goals is all on them, but lets not panic, and lets recognise that this has been a growing issue for a while.

On a more practical note, surely Joe Cole has to be on his way out. He's having a complete nightmare with us. Talented boy, but clearly just not meant to be. For all his "I want to be a success at LFC" claims, surely he'd rather be anywhere else right now. Mr Allardyce must surely have been on the phone. Fingers crossed Coley's fit enough to be shipped out!

Have everton really signed mirallas ??
god knows what is our scouting team doing in finding downing and adam...
he is a very good addition to them..where are we going i feel a little jittery..

Im sure its nothing, but if the feeling persists ring the doctors and make an appointment.

Have utd really signed Kagawa, have chavski really signed Hazard, have Citeh really signed Rodwell(weirdest signing of the season for me), nothing wrong with our scouting system, put a coat on if your feeling jittery........who really cares

It was Dalglish who wanted Henderson Downing Adam not scout's! Like it was Rodger's who wanted Borini Allen and if he was still at Swansea he would of bid for Assaidi! Our scout's are getting money for old rope meaning their getting paid for nothing! In Rafa we trust!

Let's be honest, our scouting system has not been good for some time! Every club will expect some poor buys.....but we seem to have made more than most!

Obviously we are in need of a clinical finisher who would in your eyes be the best transfer for Liverpool to try for? Keeping in mind our transfer budget at the moment what's your opinions?

Sell Carroll get Negredo

Lisandro Lopez

Give Adam Morgan some game time, obviously he won't be able to play too much and score too many but he could contribute, I believe the goals will come, and Suarez will start to score frequently, and Borini will contribute. We have pace on the wing with Assaidi now and I really believe that will help us create chances.
If we sell Carroll we can look at people, bu t with not much to spend unless that happens I would do the above, unless the situation is still bad in January. People want us to buy people like Higuain and Llorente but I believe for now just a cheaper clinical finisher would be decent, look at Jelavic at Everton and Cisse for Newcastle, if our scouting network was better we'd find a decent finisher for not too much that will really help us out, maybe BR has someone in mind secretly, akin to the Assaidi transfer.
Cal.

Negredo would be a good addition, not too exspensive either.
M-H

Defoe is a proven goal scorer and probably cheaper than dempsey .ant

Pazzini or Hernandez get rid of Carroll sell Adam loan out Spearing give Shelvey more game time throw Downing in the rezzies give Suso and Sterling more than just cameos and bring in Dempsey tough customer just what we need and please dont be tempted to play Johnson at left back or i think ill top meself..

Dreaming, but Leandro Damiao

Don't understand why we didn't cash in on malagas money problems arsenal got cozorla, which I think is brilliant we were linked with him before he went to Malaga, rondon would have been brilliant but he's gone to Russia, if we lose out on sahin should go for isco great talent but this aside we need to bring in world class players and not average ones I believe the transfers are a step in the right direction from this summer but should not be over paying for players however a forward is in desperate need no ridiculous names who want 200k a week but a proven goal scorer, but after Saturday jut have to be optimistic guys looking forward to Sunday need a win would be great ! we NEED a goalscorer, come on BR get one asap !, we wont get anywhere without one !

It really should have been his first and overriding priority! I find it incredible it hasn't been dealt with by now. Very unprofessional. We've needed a true goal scorer for so long, the whole of the footballing world knows it. And here we are....season already started....and still no quality striker! Scandalous!!

"It takes time" "Systems need to gel" "Bad day at the office" "No need to panic" "plenty of time" "Big games coming up, to put it right in" "we dominated" "refs fault etc Blah blah blah. This blase' bulls it in defeat is doing me head in. A continuation of last years bull, and even beyond. Aint good enough, sort it! And not happy with Brendans"be more games like that" Whats that about? Its a get outve s it free comment

We've only played one game FFS.

How can you be sick of it when it's only happened once... Honestly!!

BR is out of hid depth, he thinks he's still managing Swansea. Fsg bought into his pipe dream Tika Taka. It won't work with mediocre players I think Fsg is playing for time, the longer we go without Eu football the longer they will stall building the new or refurbishing Anfield We played some great football under KK and was just about getting it together towards the end of his reign. He made some awful signing but even they were starting to gel. The problem has been to many changes over the last few years not only the team but right the way through the club. I support LFC to the hilt and also back the manager but I still think he has bitten off more than he can chew.

Bobbinred

Its not the fact it happend once its the point BR said "we expect more performances like that on satarday" ??????? WTF

Cos wasnt just a defeat we fell apart

So they manager, after 1 disappointing PL game, gives you a realistic picture on the state of affairs and you complain about it? What are you hoping for him to say? It does take time, systems do need to gel, it was a bad day at the office, there is no need to panic, there are 37 games to play in the PL, we do have big games cominfg up to make it right, there will be more games like that, which bit are you battling with?

Would happily take 2 of
Dempsey
Adebayor
Walcott
Berbatov

We need two people who will get at least 25 goals between them.

Mate we need someone to get us 25 goals. Not 2 players to get them between them.MATTYLFC

20 Aug 2012 19:02:55
FFS how long have we needed a Quality and i mean Quality forward? Sort it out LFC and Fenway. Were a laughing stock FFS.Loads of pocession, same old, same old

Yeah, totally agree with you mate, it's been clear to see since last seasons falterings in front of goal, what the f#*k are we waiting for, because the games will now come thick and fast, can you imagine the abuse on here after say another 2 or 3 defeats.

At least yo are worried about the big issues i.e. what the level of abuse is. Shouldnt you be moere worried about the results and not the reaction? Especially given you are contributing to it. I dont disagree with the fact we need more goals but the first two posters appear to be more worried about being a "laughing stock" and what "abuse" may be received. Lets worry about the results and then manage our reactions with intelligence and measure, we used to be famous for it. In the pre-season game against Bayer, when they scored, their striker ran off celebrating with the shoosh finger but when the crowd clapped him, he quickly pulled his finger down. This is what Liverpool were famous for, football knowledge, not reactionary dummy spitting.

Hi eds, with Liverpool deciding not to appeal Daniel Agger's red card, even though Agger wanted us to, could that mean he could be off by the weekend?

{Ed006's Note - no it means two parties have differing opinions.}

People read too much into things, probably wasn't deemed worthy of appealing.
Cal

BR complain that not a penalty but then not apple what the hell is going on ?

hhh

If we appeal and it gets rejected do we risk a further game ban being added for wasting FA time or similar? {Ed049's Note - Yes they might double the ban}

If I have this figured correctly he'll miss the City game and the two against Hearts, so could be back for Arsenal. If we'd appealed and lost he'd miss another game. 'No brainer' even if it was a harsh penalty, he was the last defender, no way it would have been overturned! Ged

Hhh,

what you going on about? BR love apple.

From Daily Echo - Gaston Ramirez agent in liverpool. Alexander Doni can leave and interest Amorebieta. Don't know how or if true just passing it on but after Saturday we clearly need a finisher.
I will get grief for this but Suarez needs to buck up at the minute couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a football, as a pro football striker aint that what he's paid to do i.e. score goals

You havent suggested a striker

20 Aug 2012 18:55:41
Speculation from the papers suggests that Adam, Cole and Spearing are likely to leave in this window. Also looks like we have missed out on Sahin loan deal. For me we need a clinical finisher to play with Suarez and maybe a winger/attacking midfielder. Who do you see as most likely to come in after losing out on both Tello and Sahin? Would youth be an option?

I'm not going to post my name and here's why. I work for a Liverpool based company and this afternoon we received a fax in error from Arsenal which stated they accept £13.6 million for Theo Walcott. The player is given permission to agree terms. This isn't the first time we received a fax intended for Liverpool FC. Never transfers though. I'm a Tranmere fan by the way.

Thanks mate .

Hah hah hah. I've missed these. A ray of sunshine in a gloomy few days

Haha thats just funny

I would be shocked if Arsenal sold Walcott having just sold Van Persie... Of he stays fit he's excellent in my opinion...

Faxes aren't used for this purpose any more.it's all by e-mail. Nice try though!

Is this for real or rubbish?

"Faxes aren't used for this purpose any more.it's all by e-mail. Nice try though!"

errr.... having done work for a chain of Solicitors, security company, a FTSE100 BPO organisation and the NHS all within the last three years, I can say without a doubt that faxes are as prevelant in business as they ever were.

I assume faxes aren't used that frequently in schools, which is presumably where the above comment came from.

Eds & reds,

If I'm not mistaken did Lille not want Joe Cole to remain with them for next season? I'm sure they wanted to keep hold of him, however BR wanted to assess the full squad and called him back. BR has now seen for himself that he's pony and wants to offload so can we not ship him off to Lille for the season again? His wages appear to be the stumbling block but surely better to sub Lille a percentage and get most of his monster wage off our bill?

Thanks for the great site

Hi eds just wanted to share the interesting facts about a certain man utd manager. Sir Alex first 5 seasons finishing were as follows, 11, 2, 11, 13, and 6. Please get behind BR and the team they will get it right but it will take patience and faith from us fans. YNWA

Big Al

The difference is in those days there was not the allure of champions league, and money was not as big an issue as it is now.Fans wont give you that amount of time nowadays

The 1980's were very different to now mate. You can't compare Ferguson's start to anything now. Half his team were alcoholics when he took over.

FSG need to spend though, yeah they spent last season but they need to do it again or we can expect more defeats by shi*te like WBA

Thanks, Big Al. I've been wanting to point out it took 6 years for Fergie to win the PL, but the problem is as soon as you mention Manchester, you get a LOT of trolls come out the woodwork.

at 39, I think Brendon could be here for the next 20 years - imagine what we could achieve with that much consistency?

problem is, patience is a virtue too fwe football fans lack!

Dr. Sanchez

No manager will get 5 years

If u gige BR 3 years like that then will never be a team can win EPL. we will be leeds or Forest

Forget fans not giving enough time...owners won't give enough time

Just got over the loss over the weekend- gutterpointed. I've been thinking a lot and as much as liked for us to win that loss actually exposed who really was and wasn't behind BR. Most fans and pundits at the start of the season we're 'supposedly' behind him but as soon as that loss they were right on his back.

Wanted to see what you guys thought?

The Rectangle

The problem wasn't Rodgers. The problem was the attitude of some of the players. Once things started to go wrong they were a shambles. At that level, a team with top four aspirations away from home against the likes of West Brom, with a defender sent off would have played for and very probably salvaged a draw They didn't They rolled over and died. That's not Rodgers fault. If it's still going in in a few months then maybe, but this early into his tenure that is purely the players. RED LENIN

I never get over losses until we win again. Imagine how much of a mess I was when Houllier's team went 13 without a win.

20 Aug 2012 18:31:53
I'm afraid to sort our problems in the squad out we are going to have to throw money at it. If we dont't have it then we must get the overpaid, underperforming players out of the squad, to finance such deals. This would be my assessment of who should go/come in;

We desperetaly need;

1 Goalscorer
1 Winger
AND POSSIBLY
1 defensive midfielder

To sell;

Carroll - 15-18m -clearly not part of BR's plans, should sell ASAP, so we can use the money to buy the goalscorer we desperatly need.

Adam - 5m - too slow, always looking for that Hollywood pass that never comes, if he doesn't want to leave the area then seriously consider selling to Everton.

Cole - 3-6m - Don't know why he's still here if the wage budget is the problem. Payed a fortuned to come off the bench only to come off 5mins later with problem.

Spearing - 2-3m - nice lad but falls far from what is required to play at our level.

Downing - 5-7m - sell him sell him sell him. please please please. Do things come true if you repeat them 3 times?

To bring in;

Alvaro Negredo - 15-18m - basically use the Carroll money to finance this one. Big, pacey, most importantly scores goals. Will hold the ball up well in BR's system of one lone striker.

Gaston Ramirez - 12-16m - plays in front 3 of Cavani and Suarez so he is good. Need someone Downing aint up to it. 21 can only improve. link up well with Suarez.

Victor Wanyama - 5m - need competition for Lucas now that the Sahin deal ain't happening. Very athletic, would add much needed beef to the midfielder 3.

Starting 11;

----------------------Reina--------------------------Johnson------Skrtel--------Agger------Enrique-------------------------Lucas-------------------------------------Gerrard--------Allen----------------------Ramirez------------------------Suarez-----------------------------Negredo----------------------
Subs; Jones, Kelly, Coates, Wanyama, Henderon/Shelvey, Assaidi, Borini

I would think most people would agree with who to sell and they are just my picks for who to bring in. Bottom line is we need a goalscorer, who for me needs to be able to hold the ball up as they would be the lone striker, and a poacher struggles to do this, so a quicker target man than Carroll is needed. 1 winger who can add much need to pace and goals from the wing. And competion for Lucas. he looked out of sorts against WBA, and with the Sahin deal falling through we need someone, especially within Adam and Spearing going. FSG really need to reach into their bank accounts and finance the signings of these three types of players. Otherwise be prepared for another season with the same old problems.

MikeyRed92

We need a backup left back ASAP. I'd say its probably the most important player we need. Why have a great right back and play him out of position.

Cudge

I think one problem is at lfc over the last few years we have purchased seom very good players who just don't seem to play well for us. I have thought for a while there is something missing in the team the prevents getting the best out of most players. Average players go to Arsenal (arteta-maybe better than average?) but they make instant mark; as im sure will Rodwell, etc etc. Downing and ashley young were not so different in terms of talent when they played together but as soon as Young moved he was instantly recognisable (and not just for his dives!).

Personally i think we should buy more very good players for a few million rather than 15-20 million who add on all fees and things will end up being a lot more.

I'd rather see us buy like Newcastle and maybe take a chance on the talent but give hungry talents a go and if it doesn;t work out...you haven't wasted a tonne of money

Gareth

Ramirez is southampton

20 Aug 2012 18:31:44
Who do you think is more realistically going to come to Liverpool Dempsey or A. Johnson
Thanks reddy

None per norm

Neither, mate I'm telling you we won't make any more signings. You guys on here don't seem to be living in the real world, Kaka on loan, Dempsey, Johnson, Sahin etc etc... It WONT happen guys, we've got no money. We might sign someone if we manage to sell Carrol but other than that I don't think it will happen. Just concentrate on supporting the team and forget about non-existent signings.

Why not give robbie fowler another go,if the ball finds its way to him,he'll still bang it in even now,the best natural goal scorer i've ever seen,I know i'll get battered on here even saying that, but i'd rather have robbie now to some of these strikers were linked with...

Certainly over Owen

Prefer Rush myself. Ian Rush Ian Rush Ian Ian Rush when he gets the ball he scores a goal Ian Ian Rush. Redevon

Are you real?

Fowler was by far and away the best striker we have ever had at Anfield - and I'm in my fifties. RED LENIN

Oops you meant the God now, not in past. I'd prefer Djibril Cisse (Sp?) eight games last season and six goals, albeit two red cards. Redevon

I think rushie was the best cf we ve ever had myself

In: Henderson 16m; Downing 18m; Bellamy (Free); Doni 2m; Charlie Adam 6m; Coates 8m; Enrique 6m = 56m

Jan 2012
Net Spend:00m

May-Aug 2012

In: Borini 10m; Allen 15m; Assaidi 3m = 28m
Net Spend:23m

Note: All players sold were also on very high wages

Considering all the various sponsorship deals the new owners signed the total fee spent looks very less. I am worried we might be left too behind after this season if we do not buy at least two quality players.

Nice job . and agrred that we do miss few star player not young talent who can be this and that. we do have few young player who can be superstar. Raheem, Suso, Morgan . we should look for star player who can cope high lavel football now.

Yeah but the club is still making a big loss.
Realistically we should be selling players not buying more in.

MIKEY

Thats worrying i really hope these owners r better than the last cowboys, to get in the cl spots we r going to have to get in 2 or 3 top additions otherwise they are just excepting r fate as outa the top 4 for the forseeable future ,personally imo carroll should stay plan b, if he goes money should be used on a top class striker Falcoa would be my perfect choice but thats dreaming isnt it.Tommy Irish Red

Club making loss beacuse FSG is very slow on decison making

I get why you think we may need a plan B however surely you see we need a plan A first?

Arsenal fans seem to think walcott to lfc is more probable than possible..

Ian the red

Arsenal fan here,i think he will be leaving us,but hes going to cost a fair bit + apparently hes looking around 80k-100k per week, strange mancini says adam johnston can leave yesturday hmm.i wouldnt put to much store in him being an lfc fan,all footballers are fans very few of them play for their boyhood club, unfortunatly in the world of football money does the talking
trev the gooner

True trev money seems to determine every thing these days it's a shame.
Skurks

Trev gooner. What u say does make sense if man c was gonna guarantee walcott first team football week in week out. But that aint gooner happen. So i think he perfer us cos we could offer that plus his wages. I think he will join us this week.

Gezza1982

Gunners don't need Walcott any more...and I'm quite sure City don't need him either...considering he couldn't be any worse than 90 percent of our team against WBA, I'd say we need him...

20 Aug 2012 17:58:55
I always thought we may struggle for the first couple of months this season due to trying to adopt a new game plan, structure and philosophy, and will not be surprised if we do lose a few, or fail to play very well collectively until we start finding our rhythm and build confidence.

However, am i the only person who actually thinks while Man City will be a very hard game to win, that we have a good chance of doing well IMO.

I watched Man city and they fought back well, but lets not forget they did almost lost to a new comer also.

I think we will do well personally for this game at least due to utter disappointment of previous game

Gareth

If Balotelli gets sent off then we have a chance.

Scary thing is that after watching our match against WBA, you're definitely not the only one who thinks we can win...some people on here need a reality check...I'd be ecstatic to get a draw after last weekend's debacle

20 Aug 2012 17:57:15
High Ed's love the site. I would just like one of you to clear something up for me that has been a growing concern.

Is our transfer policy firmly planted in the belief that we need to sign players based in this country? Henderson, Carroll, Downing, Adam, Allen, Borini, have all played in this country for a number of years. But what worries me is, regardless of how good they are, haven't even played in the CL league, or even win any silverware before they joined? As much as I think Borini and Allen will prove to be good signings, the rest has to be said have been very poor pieces of business. Surely the problem with signing players based in England is that there price becomes inflated, and the very best that this country's leagues has to offer end up signing for the other big clubs.

Even players we hear we are linked with; Dempsey, Walcott, Johnson, Butland etc. are all based in this league and have either not played at the top level in this country, or they have been on the fringes of other top clubs, and surely it doesn't look good if someone who isn't in City's plans is good enough for us? that doesn't send out a good vibe to me.

Yet the deals we are apparently doing abroad; the sahin and tello loan deals for example, end up either not materialising or fall through. Why is that? I know we don't have CL football to offer, but neither do Spurs, and they are being linked with the likes of Moutinho and Damiao. So why are we not linked with these types of players? Surely we must still have some sort of a reputation in Europe with the amount of European silverware we have won down the years.

I mean we have a squad with big names; Gerrard, Reina, Suarez etc. and we were able to get Suarez in without offering CL football. So why can't we do it? Surely there is more to offer in signing good players from abroad, who would cost a fair price, and would love to play for a team like us in this league, like what Newcastle has done, rather than sign players already playing their trade in this country, who would end up being overpriced and not play to there best.

Just my opinion

Either way we need a goalscorer and a quality winger otherwise I predict another year of struggle.

Keeping the faith

MikeyRed92

Suarez
===============
As far as I know we were the only club after Suarez , we had no competition for his signature from any other club ..
There is no policy about players having to have played in England, Assaidi did n't

20 Aug 2012 17:54:03
Eds do you know if we're interested in a striker and if so who is it? I really hope we get a good striker I would take adebayor on loan if we could get him

If we can get a few of the big earners off the wage bill who aren't good enough, the Cole's and the Downings, then we should get him in on loan. Afterall Spurs could afford him, and he did help them to a 4th place finish last season

MikeyRed92

why dont we go for rhodes? young and can finish well. i guess he wont be very expensive. i want AC to stay as well and hope we get dempsey.
i would also like to see more of sterling. if we cant buy, then lets make do with what we've got. give talent a chance to develop.
Neo

Because he has no experience of playing at this level. Probably good enough for Blackburn, but not for us.

20 Aug 2012 17:49:37
What's the latest with Ramirez, has he signed for Southampton, or are we still in with a shout ? {Ed002's Note - Search engine.}

It's fell through. The problem is his greedy agent who has been pushing him to everyone rather without consulting Bologna. So if we were to approach his club and not his agent I'd think we could get him.

20 Aug 2012 17:46:20
i think we should sell agger , wee all know how good he is when fit but that's my point , we dont get a full season out of him and if the offer is good enough over £20 mill then take it we have kelly and coates , so we could still get a defender plus a striker , for me that's not a bad bit of buisness , 2 players for 1 crocked player , if he played every game season in season out then i would not want him to go , but every time he gets imjured the partnership breaks up and then a new has to be fprmed at the back , and then when he is fit again the partner ship has to be developed all over again ,this has been going on for years , how good was carra and big sammi , reina never realy had a save to make with them in the team

Defensive partnerships never last a full season, most if not all clubs will loose one of their CB for few games , defenders get injured and subs come in for those few games. Good enough subs should blend in/adapt quickly.

Roy

hi Eds, maybe a silly question, but do you think that michael owen could be a option for us in the short term? esp if we are unable to bring a striker.

First of all no... due to his history but second of all he could not operate in the front three system. Lone striker - no; left forward - no; right forward - no.

Michael w**ker owen???? give your head a shake......

After the game on Saturday Rodgers said 'We will have alot of days like this ahead' - this really fills you with loads of confidence.

Would you rather he lied and said it 'was our best performance?' like Hodgeson? What part of a 'building process' don't people understand.

You actually think we will win every single game? He's talking realistically something people can't do on this site

We do not want him to lie but his comments must make his players think they are not good enough , silly comments are not supposed to be the liverpool way.
talk about building a player up i am sorry brendan but you need to step it up and support your players and not say we are going to lose a few like this over the season , more like once we get used to each other we will do well etc who wants to go to a match thinking the manager expects us to get beat. red mick tag

The comment wasnt for the players, it was to reset expectations of the fans. When you start a new project, there are going to be teething problems, it is the reality. If comments like that are enough to shake a players belief then maybe they are not mentally strong enough to be playing elite sport?

SSN are saying Bolton are interested in loaning Jay Spearing, they actually rate him as a "wonderfully talented young player".

I feel this would be an ideal solution.

He isn't going to get much of a look in this season, and if we sold him we'd only get £1m for him. Loaning him out would do him a world of good, experience wise, as he would almost be guaranteed first team football at a competitive level.

He is often naive the way he plays, distribution isn't necessarily bad, it's bad choice. He never chooses the right pass, often has clumsy ball control. Has the passion but not the poise. The experience will iron all that out, refine him a little because I feel he is too rough around the edges. Please Bolton, follow this up!

20 Aug 2012 16:59:02
I don't understand why we don't submit a bid for Dempsey, quality player and hit 23 goals in 46 apps last season.. That's a great ratio and judging by our West Brom day out we need 30 chances a game to score. I know it's a pain Eds (same questions) but anything happening with him as I don't understand why there has been no bid. {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

I agreed with ed002, the same questions get asked over and over again

20 Aug 2012 16:55:26
Bit fed up of the we shud of gone for sahin etc he didnt wana play for us so sod him. I want somebody that will b proud to rep liverpool.
Without champs league gettin top players is very hard. We will beat city and arsenal at home so stop with the negative rubbish.

Now if we dont beat city and arsenal your gunna look like a right mug aren't you?

M-H

No ill just b somebody that supprted and believed in my team.

Not really I'd rather here positivity then your negative bull****

Eds not a rumour but a question, is the lad Assaidi cup tied for thursday match with Hearts {Ed002's Note - Yes. If Heerenveen get knocked out he won't be for the play off rounds.}

I was hoping to see him in action on thursday, oh well

20 Aug 2012 16:47:13
Hi Ed's is there any legs in this rumer that the owners will give rogers money for a striker ? Or isit crap {Ed002's Note - I don't see the rumoured £35M being made available.}

So Ed002 do you think it may be more like between 10 and 20 mil? {Ed002's Note - I would think everything will depend on what happens with Carroll.}

20 Aug 2012 17:30:02
Hi Eds. Just wondering bout our "star player" that BR spoke about. Who ever this would might be, will have to be someone who will bring us lots of goals. Any ideas? LFC Lover {Ed002's Note - I don't think BR mentioned a "star player" did he? He spoke of Borini being "exciting".}

20 Aug 2012 20:53:09
"There is a good chance we will have a major star signing on loan.."
This was a Macca quote. BR never mentioned "star" players, just that we may get a couple of players on loan. Everyone then just joined the dots.

20 Aug 2012 17:29:41
I just can't belive how messed up our club has been in last couple of years.
Obscene amount of money was spent on 4 players that till date have offered nothing.
I just can't belive damage that was done by kenny and commolli together in money terms.

When you see how we are struggling to buy players with top transfer value you realise how valuable funds were waisted.
Can we see barca, madrid, munich, psg, chelsea and likes of city ever wanting downing, hendo, carrol, adam and enrique.
Its gonna be long season.hoping for a miracle.
Red indian

Ps-whenever reds loose I feel someone just punched me in me balls.

So you are going to have sore balls most of the season?

20 Aug 2012 17:29:35
I feel now that BR is a wee bit out of hes depth, after saturdays debacle (which was against one of the leagues poorer relations) I think he probably feels a little deflated now...every player we seem to be linked with seems to end up elsewhere...where do we go from here? its a weaker squad than the one we finished 8th with...please ed's, give us a glimmer of hope...something to grab hold of...anything...just anything!! PLEEEAAAAAAASSSSSEEEEEE!!

I would say alot of Brummies would disagree that West Brom are weak they are arguably the best team in Birmingham and thats no mean feat to be fair.

Kopping a feel

We lost at WBA last season as well! The problems with our team began before BR was appointed, it was always going to take time for him to get us back on a stable footing, give him time.

Best team in birmingham whats going to happen when we play the best team in the country. get a grip, it was wba and they beat us 3-0

20 Aug 2012 17:27:56
Hello Eds,
are we any close to signing Dempsey ?
I feel we need two more players in a finisher (Dempsey) and a CDM or RW depending on what the Gaffer sees as priority.
I really feel for Rodgers he has a tough job on hand moving on Joe cole, Carroll, Adam and Spearing in the last 10 days of the window. Eds do you reckon we can achieve this in the 10 remaining days of the window ?
Hoping For the Best

20 Aug 2012 17:26:24
Don't expect any 30 mil signings. two or three players will be brought in, maybe more depending on who goes.

I think if we're trying to sign a big player (such as Ramirez), we'll wait for other teams to lose interest and then make them a take-it-or-leave-it offer in order to get him, just to be clear this doesn't mean we're buying Ramirez.

A friend has also just told me that the reason the Dempsey-deal is taking so long is because LFC won't match Fulham's asking price. LFC has already raised there intial offer and they're waiting for Fulham to now lower the price. He also said that Tottenham might be in for him.

The reason Sahin didn't come to us is because the AFC-midfield is easier to breack into (with Song leaving, Diaby being injury-prone, Wilshere injured), also AW has apparently personnally called him stating that he needs him.

Walcott might be coming in if LFC make a generous offer, but if not AW will be looking to keep him, already having lost two of his main players of last season.

Belgian Publian 85

Wouldnt be surprised if Spurs sniffing Dempsey, do with everyone we want

20 Aug 2012 17:24:24
I know this is not surprising news, but I have been told by a current player that we have been informed officially that Sahin does not want to play for Liverpool. He also told me that Tello is also officially a no-go.

He did not have any idea as to who the alternative targets may now be, but he said that BR has asked the board to make a real push for a striker, irrespective of Carrol either going or staying, but again did not know any names (sorry I cannot give more, but thought I would pass this on anyway).

20 Aug 2012 17:13:47
Eds, couple of things I wanted to ask you guys.
I've heard Brendan Rodgers wants to sell Doni and Jones, promote Gulacsi and buy Butland.
Also that Adam is very likely to leave this transfer window with Keisuke Honda coming in to replace him, now that the Nuri Sahin deal has fallen through.
After the West Brom game Brendan Rodgers realised Downing and Cole are not Liverpool quality and will try to bring in Theo Walcott.
Carroll has never been in Brendan Rodgers plans because he doesn't feel he fits the system and will look to replace him with Sturridge.

Basically; Doni, Jones, Adam, Downing, Cole and Carroll out.
Butland, Gulacsi, Honda, Walcott, Sturridge in.

Now that would be a smart move!

WikingRedNor

I'm afraid that's a bit of a wing and a prayer, Honda didn't go to lazio because they didnt get champions league but I hope we do get him, I rate him so highly

20 Aug 2012 17:13:31
At the start if the window there was a bit of chat about Rondon from Malaga being a viable option? Is he still an options Eds? or has he moved already because iv'e heard he would be available for somewhere around 12million or so which in my opinion is an absolute steal.

Cheers
Daryll {Ed002's Note - He moved to the Ukraine.}

I thought he went to Russia with rubin Kazan?
Redmanluka {Ed002's Note - You are right, sorry.}

20 Aug 2012 17:13:11
Despite Liverpool's main transfer interests being attacking, our main problem in the match against West Brom was defencively. Agger and Skrtel were both poor.
I know they are both world class defenders, but with all the transfer speculation i believe they are feeling to big for their boots and were complacent.
Last season they had the pressure of keeping carra out the team and therefore were brilliant, however this season they have little compitition with carra being old and slow and coates still inexperienced.
That is why we should look to sign a defender. He doesn't need to be expencive, but experienced and good enough to keep pressure on them.

Do you agree Ed's and do you think Brendan may do this?

Dorset Red {Ed006's Note - I woulf rather look at our attacking options as we all know Agger and Skrtel are class. It was a bad day at the office saturday but if Agger leaves he will need replacing.}

20 Aug 2012 17:03:06
Eds, instead of us asking you how realistic the latest rumour is could you tell us who you think are the likely targets we are looking at? {Ed006's Note - As far as I know just Dempsey... There may be more but im not sure. Adam Johnson would be nice.}

20 Aug 2012 17:21:20
Great news on Skrtel! It fills me with pride when great players like him see the vision and direction of the club and want to be a part of it. Fingers crossed Agger will follow, although I trust you Ed's, so have my doubts.

I posted my 1st post yesterday urging everyone to get behind the owners,BR and every player that wears the red shirt, we are in yet another rebuilding period, with another new manager who has a new plan and wants new players.I also mentioned that man city,Chelsea ,psg. Etc are the exception to the rule with regards monies available.our owners have invested they are not stupid and will want a return on that investment and that will only come through success on and off the pitch ultimately re gaining champions league football. I still believe we are the greatest football team in the world, and bar a few "we want it all and want it now" fans , we have the best fans in the world, patience and showing that fantastic support is going to do more for the team than moaning.

i am very dissapointed with the buisness we are doin are team is no stronger with the three buys in fack i would say we are weaker with letting bellamy kuyt and maxi go just shocking and edd if you think sat was bad with all the negativity then brace your selves cause its only going to get worse rogers cant even understand carrol was are best forward at the end of the year why not play him in the middle of the front three so dissapointed we are a lost club unless they pull something great out of the bag in signings and i dont mean demsey we are fighting mid table

Afternoon eds fellow reds , starting to look a bit poor on the transfer front most of the targets are going else where . {Ed023's Note - Only one confirmed target that I know of who may go elsewhere is Sahin.}

Well sigurdsson went to spurs, didnt he?

20 Aug 2012 17:00:59
I can see AC going on deadline day for peanuts. It seems we want rid that much. Also Joe Cole, surely someone wants him? Even if we supped his wages.

HI EDS, I NO YOUR PROBABLEY SICK OF THIS BUT WHAT IS EXACTLY THE STORY WITH CLINT DEMPSEY. HE SEEMS TO BE KEEPING VERY QUIET ON THIS MATTER, YOU THINK HE KNOWS HE WILL BE A LFC PLAYER SOON? THANKS.LUKE {Ed023's Note - Haven't a clue Luke. It is dragging on as Macca predicted but hopefully he will arrive soon}

20 Aug 2012 16:51:23
eds.. what are the possible targets for a striker, if we can get a decent one without selling carroll that would be good but i also think if we want a world class striker we should consider selling carroll and put a bid on for llorente or higuain your thoughts? {Ed023's Note - Ed002 reckons Lisandro Lopez & Alvaro Negredo - if we were interested we would have a chance}

Negredo? from what i saw of him playing for spain i wouldnt rate him any better than andy carroll!! lopez? different class! steviep62

But at what price would they go for...around £18m?

20 Aug 2012 16:48:41
All over the Everton pages that they will sign J.cole, Charlie Adam and Micheal Owen tomorrow. They truly will be LFC reserves

But lets face it at this moment in time them ˜Reserves' will probably finish above us!

Yeah, somewhat better with Moyes as a manager.

Your a lier mate there's nothing at all on the Everton pages about those players.

Cant see any reason what so ever to visit the everton pages.

Lets get real – we dont have any money to spend so stop saying we are going to buy Ramirez, Llorente, Johnson etc. etc. We need to sell before we buy, even Rodgers said this.

If you actually knew what you was talking about, then you would know, its not that we need to sell before we can buy,its all about getting players off our wage bill, players that will play very little or no part in future squads....

Would we not have been better selling Suarez when we could. Keeping Carroll and adding Dempsey. Then keep Carroll on the pitch with Dempsey as much as possible allowing them to form a partnership with Gerrard playing behind. Scoring goals is our problem and Suarez is not the answer. Good as he maybe he is not clinical enough.

This is unfair on Suarez . He was not bought as a centre forward , he has never played as a centre forward ( until he came here ) , he is a world class maker of chances , for himself and others . He has played 90% of his career on the right of a front three , including all of his time at Ajax .

It is up to LFC to play him in his most effective position .

Sadly for suerez he is playing as our main forward. So he is expected to be the one finishing the chances. BR has decided to go where Kk went and abandon Carroll for the most part even though Carroll has a very positive influence on games he plays in recent times.
Luis Suarez has a negative influence when he squanders chances as it deflates our team and leaves us exposed to having to come from behind which makes it even more deflating when he misses even more chances.
We all know Suarez is capable of great things but if your up top you have to bring home the bacon or your letting the side down. We have had such a long line of forward who never score it's as if it's by design. We will get no where till we get a true marks men in the number 9 shirt. We are looking like we will let Carroll go and that is so sad as its suerez who is missing all the chances.

So Charlie Adam proving difficult to shift he has plenty of admirers but he wants to stay and fight for place.

Dear Fat Charlie,
we don't need you, if you want to do anything good for the club and fans, plz leave us, we need better players than you and other areas to focus that is much important than u.

With All due Respect

Bosco

No need to be nasty

Bosco

How can you say "with all due respect" when you start with "Dear Fat Charlie" that's the ultimate disrespect! At least CA wants to fight for his place in the team that in itself is respectable, whether he is good enough is a different matter but I wish all this slating of our own players would stop....I always thought we had the best fans and supporters in he world but reading a lot of the posts on here I'm not so sure.....we sing our song but don't seem to practice what we preach....You'll Never Walk Alone!

CoolhandLFC JFT96

Dear Liverpool fans

I will not leave the club, as i have signed a contract that LFC are obliged to honour. It is not my fault that the club decided to pay out huge amounts of money for average players, and they should certainly not be hounded out of the highest paid job they will ever have just because of others making mistakes.

P.s Do you honestly think that any top player would want to sign for LFC these days (unless for the money). I am afraid that players of my calibre are the best you can expect now you are a mid table side.

Yours Faithfully
Fat Charlie Adam

Dear bosco
myself and other liverpool players are on a lot more money than fulham ect can afford in wages, therefore large compensation packages would be the order of the day,wee joey would be expecting around 5-6mil alone.this place is a sh*thole with no hot water and dont get me started on the grub,we get the left overs from the bootroom.im dreading the away games as ive just noticed a collection of rusty old bicycles under the cop as i was chasing a dog out that had just pi*sed on pepe,s towells we use for goal posts as that red netting is apparently very expensive, anyway me and a few of the boys would be happy to go if thats what the boss wishes, but that fsg crowd are f**kin brassic, talk about 5 star liverpool, you can see them through the holes in the kit room roof, theres no chance of plastic fantasic (john w henry) coughing up the compensation so we are hear for the forseeable future and hope to put lfc back were they belong, wherever da fu*k that is,so there you have it

Just been on the arsenal rumours page n people saying Walcott has left the club n on his way to us (this site is the best for Liverpool info without doubt

Walcott can't play tacky-wacky football.

Neither can we so perfect match

Maybe the poacher in waiting? Paisley's genius

Hi eds if any of our players play on Thursday are they cup tied in Europe? Also any idea how many games Agger is suspended? Also is Assaidi free to play on Thursday?

Well happy big Skirtel as signed a new contract. Just a boost we needed after Sat.

Thanks
Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - Assaidi is cup tied Thursday and Agger will have a one game ban at the weekend.}

Question - why have we signed a player who is cup tied? {Ed002's Note - He may not be after this round. If Heerenveen are knocked out he will be OK.}

Hopefully if we make it to the europa league proper, would assaidi be able to play?

Why Assaidi is cup tied, if I am not mistaken Heerenveen has not played any round of Europa League, and Assaidi has not played for them in Europa this season.

Heerenveen entered to play off round & will play the play offs along with LFC on Thursday

Bosoc {Ed002's Note - Sorry but he has already played for Heerenveen in the Europa League this season.}

Madrid are apparently happy to loan at Kaka. Kaka wants a move to the Premier League, as it's obviously still got it's draw as second, if not the best league in the world.

If Kaka for whatever reason was lacing up his boots next to Stevie next season in the Liverpool colours, I'd probably wee.

Players we missed out on this season. Last season

Elm 7-8 million. Cabaye 2.5 Million
Krasic 5.8 million. Jelavic 5.5 million
Mirallas 5.8 million. Santon 5 million.
Sahin (loan). Ba free.
Tello (staying).

Still available.

Afellay 7 million.
Llorente 15-20 million.
A. Johnson 10 million.
Ramirez 12 million.

We desperately need to get our fingers out and get a few permanent deals done. Understandable we tries for Sahin, but hes gone now, and I'd prefer is to sign players on a permanent basis.

Here's hoping 1 or 2 sign this week.

Jonesred

Jordan rhodes is a cheap finisher young and one for the future .well worth a punt

Elm-allen is better
krasic- rubbishe
jelavic- hmm
mirallas- borini can be way better
santon- rubbishe
ba- fitness issues

More like:
Elm - not very good. overrated. kd target
Cabaye - wasn't a target
krasic - rubbish
jelavic - overrated, just good compared to what everton have had
santon - poor
ba - don't make excuses, yeah he's brittle but he is class, missed out
sahin - bad loss
tello - overrated. didn't want to come so why bother getting him?
mirallas - not really a target. don't make me laugh, he's better than borini

Liverpool FC - a club that constantly talks how it's going to be different this time, that they're going on their way back up to recapture the glory days which are quickly fading away...

..and they offer so little.

Absolutely hilarious.

A few years ago we actually challenged for the title. Then we fought for a 'top 4' place. Then it was a battle to stay in the 'top 4'. Then it was a matter of getting in europe as we're supposedly a club of that 'standard'. Then it was a matter of just getting anything at all (carling cup, aka mickey mouse cup none of the bigger guns care about). I predicted a midtable finish this season, and look where we are - in relgation! 18th!

Ok, it may only be the first day and not everyone has played yet, but you got to laugh at this sorry state of affairs.

Liverpool are a club continuously in decline. A few years ago we had the likes of Arbeloa, Alonso, Gerrard, Torres...now we're stuck with the likes of Adam, Downing, Henderson and Carroll!

20 Aug 2012 15:59:30
Lads, Andy won't be leaving, guaranteed. And... this is not a rumour but here's a thought... By BR playing 4-3-3, there seems to be gaps that our opponents can exploit... Playing a 4-1-2-1-2 (diamond) would suit BRs style perfectly in terms of passing etc. Great site!

Eds, given we've missed out on Dempsey and Sahin it seems do you know of any players that were backups for them, such as Isco who has been mentioned. Also a striker seems in desperate need do you know if we've been looking at any in particular or heard rumours of interest in any except from Dempsey {Ed002's Note - Much will depend on who is available for a reasonable amount of money and if they are someone the manager wants - he won't (or at least should not) make a knee jerk reaction to brining a player in. Obviously if anyone leaves, the situation may change. I would not give up on Dempsey just yet.}

20 Aug 2012 15:56:59
Liverpool continue to make the same mistake – identifying someone who is successful where no-one gives a stuff, and where there is little attention or pressure, and believing they will be a world-beater.

Hodgson was okay at Fulham and reached the Europa League final, but was never going to deliver at Anfield. Dalglish signed some players who could be awesome one game in five – Carroll, Adam, Downing and Henderson. But none could deliver consistently, week in, week out. Henderson is the odd one out – unlike the others, he doesn't make mistakes – he's just too timid to do anything creative.

Rodgers did fairly well at Swansea, where there was no weight of expectation. It has to be said though, that they pretty much crept under the radar to accumulate thier points last season. At Liverpool, his game plan will be subjected to far greater scrutiny. Already, one game in with Liverpool, he looked to be close to cracking in his post-match interview. I feel sorry for the guy – he has never faced such intense scrutiny or pressure.

The one winner Liverpool have recruited in the last 10 years was Rafa Benitez. He thrived on the pressure of managing Valencia and winning La Liga, ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid - an immense achievement topped by his Champions League success in 2005, and almost again two years later. It was unfortunate that his final season coincided with the Hicks and Gillett financial meltdown and he had to sell to keep the club solvent. In the three seasons since he was fired, £40m has been wasted in terminating unsuitable managers and it's anyone's guess how much more has been frittered away on misfit players. All change but nothing changes.

I think Rafa Benitez was the best manager we've had in the last decade and to tell you the truth i wouldn't like him to have a second stint after he did good the last time, i wouldn't want another manager with another poor second stint like Dalglish. It just bring too much hate to my beloved Liverpool.

Hi Ed's

Looks like Ki is moving on from Celtic. I read we were possibly interested at the start of the summer, do we still hold any interest? Not too sure of his qualities, but would certainly raise our profile further in Asia and probably pay for himself in marketing revenue.

Mark the Selby Red

Just signed with Swansea

Skrtel signs a new contract!

Skrtel told the club's official website: "After last season there was a lot of talk about my future but I have to say that the first priority for me was always to sign a new deal with Liverpool."

Is there any chance of Soldado being brought in? I haven't heard his name mentioned for a while, and I would love, and feel we NEED, someone like this. Also, if Juve get Llorente for 14m quid, I'll be annoyed. Seems like too little.

Ice Popp

I think lewandowski is the answer for around 15-20 million. We will have his wages covered with the sale of spearing and Adam. We have also lowered the wage bill significantly already this summer.

Would love Soldado to come in but I think he signed a new contract last month

Adam johnson will revive liverpool and help us go ahead of spurs n newcastle. BR now is the time 2 strike the iron when its hot. Again which tv channel shows the match against hearts in india. Appreciate your views

Will adam johnson scores 20 goals a season?????

Itv4 for the game.

Well no because he isn't a striker? he is very skilful though, and maybe if you half the number and change the word to assists..

In india its ten sports.

Just to be a bit pedantic, it's actually " strike while the iron is hot" rather than striking a hot iron.......just saying lol

i have been thinking these americans told BR that what happened last season over paying for players cannot happen again.
they asked BR who he would like to keep and he wanted to keep downing and henderson, they gave him a budget of 20mil and know he needs to sell adam and carroll to end up with 40.
he has already spend 25 so he has 15 left, the reason we will sell agger for 20/25mil is for him 2 buy 2 players with that money.
so i expext agger to go and 3 more players to come in.
striker
winger
defender
ending up 8 last season these american owners should have granted BR with a bigger budget,in all there intervieuws they have stated that tey have 100% trust in him,so back him with funds.
its very clear we need a class striker and another defender.
after buying allen we have gerrard lucas henderson shelvey no need to get another 1 unless adam goes.
carra cannot handle the pace anylonger.

Tonight I shall be eating my hat for tea. I posted over a week ago that Sahin was a 'done deal'. At that point all that needed doing was the formal stuff - medical, signature on the contract. Then it quickly fell apart. The same source says that it fell apart primarily because of interference by his agent. The only question that now remains is what is the best method of eating hats? A light saute-ing? Marinaded and then slowly roast? B-B-Q'd? RED LENIN

Pork pie hats are good fella, Iv'e ate loads of them.

Big Bill

Depends on the hat.
A straw boater may be okay in a quick thai stir fry but a heavier felt fedora would probably require a slow stew with some winter veg. Post the final recipe after please?

Hatatouille would be my personal preference but when starving, a ''Bowler'' scouse is hard to beat !! B

I really hope Rodgers and the owners go for a big ambitous signing especially if Carroll leaves.
Yes were not in CL but managed to get SUAREZ for around 22m.
However with the success of Jelavic and other cheap signings i think we should go for G. Hooper/Jordan Rhodes.
You may say WTF ther not good enough but as a backup or cup player they can be very valuable.
Look at Jelavic him Hooper were the SPLs biggest Strikers even though its a poor league Jelavic made it why carnt Hooper who is a proper fox in the box - 44 goals in 64 apps that a great record whatever level your at.
10/11 season had 4th best strike rate in europe just behind Di natale,Ronaldo and Messi

Jordan Rhodes
Steven Fletcher-12 goals, Grant Holt-15 goals, Danny Graham- 12 goals and now Lambert all from lower leagues but are scoring in the PL with poorer clubs.
Rhodes 71 goals in 122 apps.
Over 40 goals last year.
Yes it is League 1 BUT he is ONLY 22 younger than Carroll who i doubt could get 36 league goals in league one.

Both Hooper/Rhodes would be great St options and if we can get for under 8m would be great.

I know many and going to disagree but think about it many of you saying we should of signed Jelavic.
Wer not in a position for World class Strikers signings.

I would be satisfied with

Dempsey, Hooper/Rhodes, walcott/Johnson and someone else??

F5

You hope the owners have big ambitions then you mention Rhodes snd Hooper? We have enough "back up and cup players" We need someone who can stick it in the onion bag for the first team. Not next season, but now. Finding such a quality player wanting to come to Liverpool is another question

It's strange how quickly things can change. We were justifiably sceptic when a young, relatively unproven manager replaced the King, but we were also cautiously optimistic. In Rodgers we had appointed a man who had numerous years of coaching experience, a man who had developed Swansea to the extent they were dubbed 'Swanselona'. His philosophy is impressive, the quick regaining of possession, the defending with the ball, and attacking patiently are all the hallmarks of the style we have witnessed the indisputable best teams in the world, Barcelona and Spain play over the last 5 or so years.

Rodgers then showed another reason why he's the man for the job. His demeanour, the way he communicates, the way he embraces the Liverpool way, yet directs that it needs to evolve. Drawing comparisons to Shankly, the Northern Irish man began to draw plaudits and more support from the Liverpool faithful. Strong displays against Gomel and Leverkusen again strengthen our support of the man. The signings of the young, technical and skillfull Borini and Allen with the promise of a major loan star certainly had us all excited.

But then in the space of a few days, it all changed, the mood in Liverpool became darker. Primarily because of the result against West Brom. The performance was sub standard, but it was never a 3-0. A ridiculous performance from the referee and a wonderful goal from Gera sealed our fate. Although sounding like a cliché, Rome was not built in a day, neither was Barcelona, or the Liverpool of old. We have top quality players, a top quality manager, and although they will not throw ridiculous sums around, we have wonderful owners. Intelligent, supportive owners that saved us from the abyss and have already pummelled in millions.

I have no doubt that under Rodgers, FSG, we will be great again. It may take time but we will succeed, and I will support Liverpool through the bad times along the way.
Remember, the night is darkest before the dawn.

this is not a rumour but if u want to watch premier league football live and liverpool games live in TV quality for free on your laptop then download a program called sopcast(link below for windows)after you have downloaded the program, google bloodzeed channel and click the first link(google it). something will come up click launch and sopcast will automatically come up and will load the channel and wait for the number to increase.I watch it all the time but you have to have a good internet connection and it is 100 x better quality then firstrowsports or any other website enjoy and your welcome.(p.s u could test it out between the game Man Utd vs everton 2nigt if u need proof and next week u could watch liverpool vs man city

Really strange being a liverpool fan spent 6 weeks on here building up to the start of the season feeling good then we got tonked 0 -3............. its so easy to then make knee jerk reactions and comments.

My thoughts..

On the plus Allen looks energetic and sprayed the ball around where you would hope. We had a lot of the ball and made a lot of passes.

The fact the passes meant and came to very little was a problem but you can see this improving .

My main concern with our team is the mentality of the players. Not since Rafa was in charge have i ever looked at our team going a goal behind and thinking we can come back. Unless we steam roll teams early ( and get lucky ) we've got no chance of coming back. Normally when an apposing team fluffs a penalty you would expect to punish them.

I'm not a part time fan, i go to games most weeks and i do genuinely love the club. I don't slate individuals, managers or owners.

The way i see it there have been too many changes in the last 4 years. We have BR and a decent set of players. If we change again we go backwards again. All we need is time, players that will play for the shirt and a top class striker - my opinion is back AC and give him confidence as we aint getting anyone else.

Liverpool - we are where we are, live with it or leave.

Red Jonny 1.

Totally agree mate, whenever we go behind a goal our attititude becomes completely lackadaiscal, even the senior players like Stevie don't look interested. Still your right, this is one game and Rodgers and the players need time.

GLfc

What will be the reaction if it happen's next week and the week after that? You start as you mean to go on!Bad day at the office! It was the start of the season yet when we went a goal down there was no fight or passion just carried on giving the ball away! In Rafa we trust! Not calling for Rafa to come back just how i sign off!

20 Aug 2012 14:47:22
Eds I am seeing a lot of links with midfielders and although there are some quality players I am more interested in getting someone who can score goals. I know we have Borini, but besides Dempsey are we approaching or linked with any forwards? {Ed002's Note - At this time that is where the interest is unless a low key squad member that we are not aware of is to come in.}

20 aug 2012 14:47:13
brendan hope you are reading this, sign michael owen on a free ,on pay as you play deal he would link up with suarez and score loads also get adam johnson hes class , also need another central defender ,isnt our academy producing anything?? also please dont waste any money get the best u can as we have got to be title contenders, not has beens year in and out since 1990

Obvious trolling.

we are years off being a title contending side.
Owen. Wash your mouth out. Don't even go there.
Anyone who pays any remote attention to us, especially pre season, knows we have a promising academy with lots of talent.

Agree if u think the transfer deadline day should be before the start of the new season,so that all the clubs can get the team in place.

I propose the window is narrowed to just 2 weeks in summer, the eds here would lose their minds , but what a mad 2 weeks it would be

Would be alot more exciting

Allow me to try and cheer you all up ,can you remember two years ago when good old arsenal stepped in and snatched Chamakh from right under our noies and look at what flop hes been, he was one of the most sought after strikers in Europe when he joined arsenal , I can rember the big disappointment at the time he signed a five year deal on 60k a week , let's all hope the Sahin deal goes the same way after all we want players who are proud to play for Liverpool and are out to to prove themselves , please Mr Rodgers by all means buy the unknowns and let them prove themselves ,but please give the kids ago ,I don't what suso and sterling play there best football in another teams colours ,after we have been so careful not to play them because they are to young ,IF THERE GOOD ENOUGH THEY ARE OLDER ENOUGH

Let's face it - we have only one point less than at the same stage last season! We only took one point from our next three home opponents when we deserved nine so if we win only one of them we are in profit. The fact is that Manchester United and Manchester City are (by all accounts) going to get maximum points this season. According to the d..... m... the top four places are going to be taken by the above-mentioned clubs and Arsenal and Chelsea. Quite honestly there's no point in having a Premier League - they are in a league of their own. 38 matches will tell (not 1 but 38).

Yeah that's realistic sell half our team to get one player

20 Aug 2012 14:33:33
There are rumours that MANC offering 25 mil for Agger. Why don't they sell him? Agger is injury prone anyway and we have some good defenders in the squad. For that money they could buy a decent finisher/striker

Sorry mate but good strikers want to play for good teams not teams battling for mid-table obscurity wake up

Skrtel, that's it. Carragher gettin/is past it
Coates upcoming can't put everything on him

Coates and Kelly are not too far off Aggers capability, maybe they wouldn't have been caught out on Saturday.

To be honest no !

Don't you wish you had Suarez, Gerrard, Lucas, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Reina, Carroll, Allen, Borini, Enrique, Henderson, Downing, as they'd all walk in to your team. I bet you wish you had the youth prospects of Sterling, Shelvey, Suso, Morgan and Kelly as well. Sure, Jelavic would be nice, but I really don't think you're in any position to be smug when you look at the gulf in quality, success, popularity and wealth between our respective teams.

Anyone else find it ironic that 2 of the best chances that fell to Suarez on Saturday were headers from 5 yards that Carroll would have buried?

I'd love to see a front 3 of...

Suarez Sterling
Carroll

Joe

Didn't think of it like that

Borini-carrol-suarez

The question is - where would he have buried them?
DM2012

Sure Suarez didnt score but would Carrol have found himself in that position. Carrol has very bad positioning.

I cant understand why when playing 4-3-3 Carroll cant start in the middle with Suarez and Borini either side - its worth a punt for a few games until fitness and sharpness is obtained.

Carroll may have got them...but much as i actually rate him..how many headers did he miss for 3/4 of season? Loads!

Hai ed...great site and great post..I want this to be posted.
I have never wished to sack BR..he needs time..but that doesnt mean..we are looking to finish again at no.8..we need to play well and play really well..
We need a striker...no doubt...
Gutted we missed on kevin mirallas..at 6mill he is qulaity..
we need to get rid of some players..
adam, spearing and downing..
caroll situation is bit confused...if BR doesnt want him..sell him..but we need then 2 strikers...
we also need a perfect playmaker..
and a speedy player on the left or right..

Ed..whats the situation with Lenon? can we get him?
also, we are looking at dempsy.
but if caroll does go we might need another one..
are we looking at someone?

need your replyy

Arsenal want Sahin with an option to purchase which is why a deal hasnt been completed yet, sahin was a target before song was leaving so arsenal will be competing for our plan B aswell Victor Wanyama of Celtic. Expect Liverpool and arsenal to cut a deal over these players and possibly cool interest over Walcott, it all depends on what arsenal want....

I suspect with us already spending 28.4m on New players with should have around 10m left to spend which we can a to the hopeful Sales of Carroll 15m to Newcastle,Adam 5m to Stoke and Cole 3m to West ham.that would leave us with 33m to spend.
And Buy Butland 7.5m, we are definitively interested in him as a long term replacement for Reina,Dempsey 10m to add some Goal-scoring class and Struridge i think with Chelsea making an approach to Hernandez it could see him Available.

It just doesn't work like that man but good to see you can use a calculator.

How many players more we are looking at Eds, any idea?
Is Dempsey still target? {Ed002's Note - Dempsey remains a target I am told, but much will depend on departures.}

20 Aug 2012 14:11:34
The only club Andy Carrol will go to is Newcastle but they are not going to pay what we want for him, so
I would love to see Chek Tiote coming the other way, him Lucas and Allen would be a great midfield.

Heard Mancini is after him though, but I think that would be the perfect solution to the question- how do you deal with a problem like Andy Carrol

Borelli

Only if you are prepared to give something in the region of £15m + Carroll. Otherwise you have no chance.

I have friends in Newcastle and there is no way Tiote will be joining us cos he is more than happy in the north-east just like Cabaye and has just signed a new five year contract.

20 Aug 2012 14:03:18
Another reason we need a striker Liverpool had 51 more shots at goal than Manutd last season ,but scored 47 fewer goals ,please read this Fsg and BR and please replace Ian
Ayre has the negotiator of transfers. The guy took this job on after damien comolli was sacked ,maybe he should stick to bringing sponsors to the club and we should bring someone in like David Dein your thoughts please.
Cheers teapot

Did we not already bring in man cities 2 best scouts??

Let ayre negotiate with clubs but use rush fowler etc to convince players to join. Maybe even use gerrard.

Man citydont need scouts they can buy whoever scores the most, plays the bestand costs the most

Apart from no CL football. Something is putting players off coming to us.

After 10 games Rodgers will appear to be out of his depth. Too much reliance on bringing his text-book football theories.

I think agents are telling their clients that going to Liverpool is a loser.

No confidence from FSG, and soon that will also be felt from Rodgers.

The realistic posters get moaned at. Yet they could well be right. Let us wait for the middle of November.

The comments here will be very interesting.

You're going on about waiting until November to see the 'very interesting' comments, but haven't got the minerals to sign your post.

Why is that if you so much conviction about Rodgers' limitations? So you won't be called out if you're wrong?

- Something Red -

If you're so confident in your thoughts why haven't you put your name against this comment? We all know that Saturday was unacceptable but surely they've got to show us what they CAN do against City and assuming we do get a decent performance then BR needs to show he can motivate players todo this on a regular basis. Something that Kenny couldn't do unfortunately

I meant to sign. Too quick on the enter key.
November or 12 games. Whichever the sooner.

Joining up the dots. Suso- tweeted about being unhappy with the reservers (u21's) when sent home from America, given 3 days off starting yesterday with the u21's first game today. He went back to Spain as he confirmed by twitter and obviously he's not in the squad for today's game, it's the transfer window. Join them up how you see fit and tell me im joining them in the wrong order or missing a bit.

Aftab

I think he's in contention for the Hearts game.

Tom.

Nvm no he's not.

Tom.

Maybe he is getting a rest before the Europa League game on Thursday .

TheScarf

Don't talk rubbish. He tweeted that he was back in reserves. Nothing about being unhappy to be back there. He also tweeted that he was looking for a house in Liverpool. Join that to your dots. Also he is not been named today along with sterling and Robinson. Maybe because of a certain European game on Thursday. You sir are as bad as the press

Cudge

He could well have been called up to the squad for the Europa League tie against Hearts, aswell as Sterling and Robinson.

Tom.

He did tweet about him looking for a house I agree but why would we give him the day off on a day we have a game? The difference between raheem and robbo is they are both now with the first team FULL TIME where as suso is with the 21's FULL TIME. He will not be playing against hearts especially not the away leg.

I hope Carroll plays on thursday to show what he can do! Prove to BR he has a place at the club! Does anybody know if the game is on T.V? Much appreciated if answered thank you in advance!
Redmanluka {Ed002's Note - ITV4 was mentioned.}

Its on espn as far i know

It is on itv4

I'd like to know... What's the situation with football on TV in England ?
I mean, can you watch some Premier League or European Cup games on your free national television ?
In France, and in my opinion, it's a shame that you are forced to pay to watch any national game.
The matches from the Ligue 1, Ligue 2, Champions League, Europa League (and obviously all of the foreign championships) are all on paying channels like Canal+ and BeInSport, which only left the (ridiculous) national cups and national team games on free channels. It's (very) frustrating and I was wondering how is organized the football broadcast in England.
Sorry for poor grammar, thanks for your answer.

Its itv4 mate

Thank you! Much appreciated!

Skirtel, Agger, Gerrard and Downing all had bad games.
Our best striker missed some opportunities.
The ref made a couple of bad decisions that impacted the game.
We played the rest of the match with only 10 men.
...........and after all of that, we only lost 3-0.

It's not so bad when you take everything into account.

Just think how exciting it will be when we beat City this weekend!

Keep the faith.

Levans

We will beat both City and Arsenal in the next 2 games and things will be looking up.

Brendan Rogers has been given the green light by the owners to pursue Mexican International Erick Torres from Chivas. He will cost around £6mil and Plays as a centre forward for Chivas, but used in a deeper role for Mexico just behind the main centre forward. He is often compared to Javier Hernandez. Although he has a little bit more grit about him and works hard for his team. Liverpool scouts have been watching him for little over a year, Dalglish considered putting a bid in before he was relieved of his duties. Rogers has been impressed enough to follow up interest.

Dani the Mexi-Can!

Would all you people stop complaining. Yeah we lost to West Brom... big deal it was the first game of the season and we played pretty well until Gera hit a great shot that had perfect technique. Then we were ripped off for 2 penalties and a red card, this caused changes in structure which let WBA get a third goal BUT the big thing to take out of the first game is that until the other team gets a stroke of luck we were playing well and dominating.
We can still make top four.

Owen in N.S.W

We lost badly 3-0, it could have and should have been worse, we got lucky in that respect. The first time West Brom attacked us we fell to bits! Please Please, Please, Wake up!!

We weren't robbed of 2 penalties one was a clear penalty and a definite red card the other shudnt of been a penalty

Yeah it could have been a a lot worse but the game should have been over before albion scored. Suarez missed a pan full... I think its time that morgan , suso adorjan and sterling were given a game we need a bit of hunger amongst the experience we have its crying out for it...

Hi Eds.... Good job u lot r doing

Watched the Man utd v Brighton fa cup final 1983 highlights the other day now i have a big problem with what the comentator said considering how rubbish they think we are now, when they were lifting the cup he says the greatest team in the world r back winning trophys now they hadnt won the league since 1967 and wouldnt win it again till 1993.If anybody listened to the sunday supplement yesterday they love it when we mess up and any chance they get theyre sticking the knife in,can anybody please also tell me wtf mark Lawrenson has dissapeared up purple noses wh--- what a brown noser.I do think we will improve so everybody calm down please it was a bad day give the team a chance to gel.Tommy Irish Red

Don't watch, read or listen to them friend and try to remember lawrenson the player ( used to be a hero of mine but hey ho!) unfortunately him beglin & redknapp just despise us don't give them their oxygen.........paisley's genius

Tommy

I can't believe it has taken you this long to realise the media's love affair with Manchester United.

Even when they were relegated to the then "Second Division" the media afforded them more exposure then they did Derby County who won the title that season (we came second) - 1974-75.

With the invention of the Premiership, Sky and Alex Ferguson's influence, the love affair seemingly increased as Manchester United became the "dominant" force, don't forget Murdoch's "Sky" even tried to buy them, and whilst their takeover bid may of failed, their pro Manchester United stance certainly didn't wane because of it.

Some might call me bitter and yes i'll admit to despising them, but I honestly believe that the media (especially Sky) are a little too blatant and obvious about their affections for all things United.

It seems like liverpool and england players only need time to gel. every other team is just fine.

Ed is it true that we used kackanaklic or what ever his name is, in the deal to bring in konchesky??

Yeah, along with Lauri Dalla Valle.

Another great transfer decision brought to you by Roy Hodgson.

were all complaing we need a playmaker when we have suso and joao texeira in our reserves. Why not use them texeira will be 20 soon and suso 19.

I think Suso, Raheem , Texeria will do better then Downing , Borini

20 Aug 2012 13:34:43
Just got word from a very reliable source, he says that malaga have allowed liverpool to open up transfer talks with Isco.

And what is this very reliable source may I ask?

20 Aug 2012 13:32:26
Just had confirmation Sahin won't be signing, Rodger's was extremely hopeful he could get his man but it's not to be.

We are still hopeful of bringing in Dempsey but are not likely to budge on our price, Fulham more likely to give in nearer the end of the transfer window. We are making a push to sign him this week, but Fulham are playing hard ball.

Adam looks like he is set to stay as we won't be signing Sahin, but if a creative midfielder becomes available and fits our budget then expect some activity.

That's all I have regarding transfers In, my source claiming people inside are really keeping their gobs shut so there could be a few targets we don't even know about, not much news on players leaving but there are a few clubs interested in Jay Spearing so expect some noise over that soon.

Thanks,
Tom.

20 Aug 2012 13:28:56
Hi guys is anyone else worried that we're competing for transfer targets with the likes of sunderland QPR everton... Just shows me where we're gunna finish this year.

What players are you on about?

Yeah below them all

Ha ha competing with Everton for transfers were happy with our squad now and if Moyes brings anyone else in its a bonus.I have no worries about liverpool this season we will finish way above you at least i say 5th you 10th or less by the way how can you even slag Everton in anyway after that whipping you took of west brom .Stef the blue

Its easy. Your trophy cabinet is embarrassing so f off

Cudge

No mate, your football team is embarrassing ,turn on a website tonight and watch the super toffees we will show you how to play football cheers Cudge.Stef the blue.

With the money we have spent in the last couple of seasons we shouldn't even be worried about everton finishing above us. nowhere close.

I turned it on and all it showed was a empty trophy cabinet, care to explain?

Hey Eds

We need a goal scorer!! every fan can see this ....

I just hope that the people who can make it happen can see it too....

Or I'm afraid it's going to be the same old story with Liverpool and the longer we miss out on the champions league the harder it will be for us to get back to not where we belong but where us the fans believe we belong...

The next 11 days or so will be crucial ....

20 Aug 2012 13:27:14
What is so wrong in getting Owen back? Didn't we get Gary Mac at 35 or so? Owen is injury prone, but isn't Stevie and Agger? I think we need someone who knows the back of the net, and we don't have to pay any sign-on fees or things like that. If we can have Joe Cole arpund for 90K, why can't we get Owen on a pay-as-you-play contrtact? Forget about the sentiments. Owen can grab 11-15 goals for any team in the Premiership; I wish we could swallow our pride and bring him back. He still has pals in the team like SG and JC, and as a Chester boy, settling in won't take more than a few seconds! If we were ready to keep Bellers at 33 going 34, why can't we bring in Owen?
NosKee

Owen's pals in the team, SG and JC, are exactly the ones we need to get out if we are to make any progress. So why bring in another 'past his best' player who we will soon need to ease out? His best days were behind him when he left Madrid, so let's just forget about this one.

redmersey

Maybe the fact he sold us out and played for the sick mancs... only a guess though ha

20 Aug 2012 13:21:20
Hello Eds just have a question about Moussa Sissoko is it true his contract is up in 2013 and if it is would LFC consider him?
Cheers Scott {Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely, but not impossible, after all of this time.}

20 Aug 2012 13:19:30
Man united's fifth choice striker (Berbatov) scored only four less EPL goals than our first choice striker (Suarez) last season, in Less than half the games played by Suarez.

Just an interesting stat to prove how badly we need a goal scorer!

Red Lee

Which begs the question, lfc where after a striker and payed a whopping 22m for saurez, can fans explain exactly what lfc got for the 22m coz saurez clearly isnt a goal scorer?

20 Aug 2012 13:18:51
Eds as we all know time is running out in the transfer window numbers wise they would be 3 short of a 25 man squad.
With talk of more players leaving any chance that a few academy lads could be making up the numbers.
If so who would they be? {Ed002's Note - Nobody under 21 needs be included in the 25 man squad.}

20 Aug 2012 13:06:05
Two Shane long dives cost us the game.

Hope Aggers appeal is successful, there was no contact there. Did anyone see Ramis push on Torres? Torres was a man and stayed on his feet though.. As for the Skrtel penalty, well jesus christ! First we outlaw tackling, now we are outlawing passing?!

We will improve, we just needed a poacher to bury our chances before Gera hit the goal of the opening day!

Dowd's performance should be reviewed, Long should be disciplined, and LFC fans should calm down!

I think Shelvey deserves Gerrards spot, and Sterlnig deserves Downings spot. Coates should have been on, not Carragher.

I'm off to watch the Bundesliga where the real men play.. Had enough of diving ruining the EPL.

YNWA! (Adam)

What that Robben "hard man none diving Character!!
Think be for typing!!

Stop talking crap they should have scored 4. We were rubbish that was not acceptable

Agree - Agger should not have been booked let alone sent off.
As for Skrtel, he was in the process/motion of kicking the ball when the player appeared from behind and placed his leg in between Skrtel's standing leg and the ball.
There was contact, but in no way was it a penalty. Not even a free-kick if it was outside the box.

Ref was a joke.

LFC fans should calm down but you want to drop Gerrard for one poor performance?

- Something Red -

Off to watch the Bundesliga! That's where the 'schwalbe' (dive) was invented and perfected. Don't you remember Jurgen Klinsmann who played for Tottenham Hotspur between 1994-1998? Oh sorry,he last played for them 14 years ago - before you were born. If you want to watch REAL men I suggest you watch the Dusk TV Channel where you can watch REAL women as well!
Dutchmal

- something red - In my opinion Gerrard should be dropped after that performance, if you look at last season our dip in form coincided with the return to fitness of Gerrard hes been playing poorly now for 2 seasons, shelvey deserves a chance after the pre season hes had.
Jaydee ynwa.

Phil dowd should be disciplined for his performance, he was totally biased and frankly quite pathetic to be honest, the man is out to make a name.

Absolute nonsense, Jaydee.

Our drop in form coincided with Lucas getting injured. Happened about 3 weeks after Gerrard came back. And the signs (missing loads of chances) were there whilst Gerrard was still on the treatment table and Lucas was fit in any case.

The only player who did more for us as an attacking force last season than Gerrard was Suarez. He's still good enough and I entirely fail how people can think otherwise. Is it because they think they're being trend-setting and edgy by attacking the club captain's peformances and can dismiss people who disagree as sheep?

Shelvey's a decent player, but even at this stage in his career, Gerrard's quite significantly better than him. It would senseless to make that change.

- Something Red -

Dutchmal, im 18 mate. Not a kid, but i was when Jurgen played. Regardless of what one German guy was like nearly 2 decades ago, and the odd Robben, the Bundesliga is probably the most physical league left at the top of Europe.
Something Red, i want to see Gerrard, Downing and Carragher dropped. Not after one bad performance, but after a year of inconsistency. Gerrard is an excellent impact player, but he just cant carry us anymore. Players seem to find it daunting beside him and underperform. He didn't have that problemfor England alongside 10 egos, but that seems to be the case at Liverpool.

Sorry Eds for not being in my late 40's, and also for having an opinion. I'll think before posting next time....

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed002's Note - I wouldn't mind being 18 again. Or in my late forties for that matter.}

It was a penalty, he had to be sent off, he was the last man, wake up.

20 Aug 2012 20:24:47
at Adam, I'd agree about Carra, his legs are gone. He can still contribute usefully for 10-15 games as back up though.

Downing, maybe. I think he's a better player than he showed last season. But with Assaidi around we should be giving him a go in the next couple of weeks to see what he can offer.

Gerrard probably can't carry us and score 20 goals a season in the way he used to, but I do not agree for one second he's playing poorly in his own right. As for players shirking responsibility when he's around, the same players who are relying on Gerrard shirk responsibility anyway when he's not there. They give it to Suarez and expect him to do everything himself instead of Gerrard.

Gerrard is still good enough for the first team, I really don't get how people can look at him and think otherwise. Our team is poorer without him than with him.

I know he's not a young player anymore, but would we really be having this convo if he'd played well against West Brom? Does one match matter that much when we're talking about a player who'll make his 600th club appearance this season?

- Something Red - {Ed001's Note - but he hasn't played well in almost every game he has played in 3 years now! Why are people so blind when it is Gerrard? He WAS great, now he is struggling, something needs to give, he either needs to step up and prove he still has it, or he needs to be let go.}

20 Aug 2012 12:31:44
Ed does our buying of a Striker depend on funds from outgoings? Or as people are posting, has Brendan been given a cash boost to obtain a goalscorer? {Ed002's Note - RTFPs.}

20 Aug 2012 12:31:24
Ed's, it has been mentioned that Joe Cole may be let go to another club (sold or loan).

I find it strange considering that BR has been talking him up in pre-season and there has been all this promo around his video diaries etc...
What's your thoughts on this?

MRP {Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation once this morning.}

Going back to west ham if they dont get jarvis

From what i can gather from Rodgers time in charge so far, if he bigs a player up in a press conference he is on his way out the door.

20 Aug 2012 12:31:20
come on brendan pul la few more crafty signings out of the bag, shrewd astute signings was what i had expected fromhim , haven t really been disappointed yet but will be if he doesn t dig up a proven goalscorer from somehwere

20 Aug 2012 12:51:11
All you guys saying Liverpool can't attract big players because of the lack of champions league football, but did man city have champions league football when they got players like silva and yaya toure?NO! Sure we don't have as much money but we are a huge club with a great history and supposedly the best fans, but with all you moaning and bitching obviously not...sure we had a poor game on Saturday but that's one out of 37 games, there's a long way to go...take arsenal last season, the first few games they were horrific losing 8-2 to man utd and yet they still came 3rd in the league...for a chance of top four we have to get behind BR and the team hopefully we can get 1/2 more signings which will make a difference....YNWA

They had ridiculously large bags of cash and put players on wages that now they can't write off - e.g. Adebayor.

Drigan

Its about wages were willing to give, city gave massive wages to get the top players Tommy Irish Red

No man city had money an lots of it hello!!

You're right you don't need champions league football for big name players but you have to pay for it. City offered wages that Liverpool will not and cannot offer so using city is a bad example. The calibre of player will be affected by CL football or the lack thereof in our case. Liverpool's new owners want to run the club responsibly and believe they have the right man and team in place to find the talent required without the price tag, time will tell if they have and certainly LFC scouting dept. seem to be less successful than anyone in the premier league for the last couple of seasons. Last year's drunken sailor routine has almost certainly set us back as the majority of players brought in are no longer wanted or required at the club and the ones remaining are surely in the last chance saloon Downing et al will have to convince BR of their worth before Christmas or we will be set to take more losses on last summer's purchases. I understand this is very disappointing to us all but when you look to recent events at Rangers, surely you can see that the owners are conducting themselves in the necessary manner. Again this doesn't help whilst we all look green eyed at blue and even the red half of Manc land but that and wishing we were bought by oil billionaires is a futile exercise. I suggest we just accept the fact that we are going to have to earn everything we get and not expect too much too soon.

20 Aug 2012 12:49:45
Can't actually believe I am goingto say this... but what about 'adebayor'?

Spurs deal obviously fell through and City don't want him. Poss 1 year loan deal £100k a week.

Thought Saturday highlighted what we already knew which is Luis is a great player but not a goal scorer - we need a 20 goals a season man to play up top and push Luis out to the right or left (get Downing out of the team!)

I would be happy with Emmanuel Adebayor for £5 Million on a 2 year contract . He is definately capable of scoring Premier League GOALS .

17 Goals and 11 assists in 32 PL games last season .

He would surely help us secure results in the short term . Because , without GOALS the team will simply not win enough games to have a successful season .

Can anyone think of any quality goal scorers that would want to join Lfc? I can only think of Dempsey
Redmanluka

Defoe maybe?

We should sign owen and Torres. Bet no-one else has suggested that one ....

How many quality goalscorers have you asked?

Rondon , bas dost, gameiro, remy, augenbeyang, doumbia, to mention a few

Ed, I have use the search fuction, but didnt find the answer, btw will assaidi be available against herts this thursday? some stated that herveen had played against harts n so he cant be available and some says a cup tied and so on, makes me confused... Do you know anything about this?? {Ed002's Note - Heerenveen are still in the cometition so he is cup tied for the game.}

Gaston Ramires has chosen Southampton over Liverpool. Not surprising as they are on the up and well we are going downwards.
Redus

You sir are a JOKE.

Yeh, he chose Southampton over LFC because they want him and we don't (equally he 'chose' Southampton over AC Milan, Real Madrid and Barca...) Nonsense post.

WE DIDN'T BID FOR HIM so what your saying is he picked every single team for Southampton i cant believe people are still going on about him!

20 Aug 2012 12:44:07
Hi Eds, great site, any interest from LFC in Jozy Altidore? Great player, still young, and knows where the goal is.

20 Aug 2012 12:43:20
Have just heard that Sahin will not be joining us he has decided to develop himself at arsenals london colney basethis seasonin the hope that he will either prove himself worthy of being called a galactio or begin a carear with a team he believes more astute to challange for honors .

20 Aug 2012 12:41:07
Surely now with us missing out on Sahin, we should be trying to bring in Ramirez for 11.8 million. Downings performance again was woeful. I know we have just bout Assiadi, but we lack quality in depth.

We have already missed out on some bargains in

Krasic 5.8 million
Mirallas 5.8 million
Elm 7-8 million
Probably Afellay 7 million

This would have been a combined total of 27 million for 4 players who would of provided us with pace creativity and a goal threat.

Fortunately Ramirez is still available and also would jump at the chance of joining us. So what are we doing we have four huge games coming up and sadly lack any strength still. Come on reds lets start making the squad stronger. Forget loan deals for Sahin and Tello. Let's buy some quality on a permanent basis.

Jonesred

Listen to you talking about "millions" of pounds like you have any f":c/-g idea what your talking about.
Get back on the play station playing with

Only 27 million pounds person

Jesus give him a break he is actually close on all valuations as he has stated the money they have been sold for. Personally I wouldn't say they are world class but certainly would help Lfc in an attacking sense

Thanks to the poster who posted last. Who's the idio whi replied to my post? Going on about a playstation them figures are spot on. I suggest you get your facts right before you start with the old "playstation" quote.

Where's your suggestions for new players which we are crying for.

20 Aug 2012 12:40:20
Guys, when are we going to get better? Is the situation will get better I mean. I am just so disappointed. I know this was only the first match but to get 3 from WB I never expected..I sat in front of the telly with such a hope and I thought we will be the ones scoring 3 with new & good play by LFC. (passing, tiki taka style, finishing). But what we played was really bad. It seemed that players gave up totally. There was no fight , no light at the end of the tunel...Players looked disappointed & you could read the same feelings from their faces as last year.....How on earth are we going to compete with the top clubs if we cannot win over an average club. Just look at Manu, their midfield, forwards are top quality, same as Chelsea. If you look at them playing it is nice to watch how they play.Passes are accurate ,game has a speed, depth and finishing. I try to be optimistic as always but it is so worrying again. All the Liverpool fans would like to see LFC where they belong ,reach top 4,get to CL and become a football club and a real threat for others like we used to...We also seems to be missing out on players we want. Why can't they do more when looking for players, try to make the top deal they want a.s.a.p and not to wait ....Mirallas to Everton, Sahin will go to Arsenal, Sirgudsson to Spurs.....This is happening every year.Somebody is doing something definitely wrong...Next game City and after Arsenal.....

Yeah Ian Ayre is

Ian ayre isnt the problem, the american owners leave him with a limited budget thats why our targets are ending up somewhere else

20 Aug 2012 12:39:48
Hi eds any chance of us signing any of these players?

Abel Hernández
Lazar Markovic
Robert Lewandowski
Jordan Rhodes {Ed002's Note - There has been interest in a couple in the past and I know of no interest in Rhodes, so no it seems very unlikely.}

20 Aug 2012 12:38:17
Why oh why did we pay 15 million for Allen and 10 million+ for Borini. Relagation is a real worry this season. Top 10 would be an achievement.
Redus

Oh will you give over..... Will you be back on in a months time with the same attitude if we pull off huge results against City, Arsenal and United?? Relagation after one result?? Get a bloody grip!

What a bell end.....in my opinion Joe Allen had a cracking debut....Ha Ha relegation...christ one game in...people love getting on the band wagon - so judging by first game result Swansea will be front runners for the League....!

How have you decided this?! because we lost our first game? so did tottenham and arsenal drew man c nearly lost

There mustn't be any decent posts being sent, if the eds have allowed this joke to appear on here.

Joe Allen = gem!

Get a grip! There was a key word in your post "IF" With what you saw on Saturday do you honestly think we'll win those game's? I don't! Am being a realist! Someone posted a few day's ago that there's something seriously wrong at Anfield i am starting to believe that now!

20 Aug 2012 11:44:34
A long shot Eds but any chance we cud get levondowski to join us? I'd of thoUght sum big names wud still wanna sign for us surely.. Cheers YNWA langatang {Ed002's Note - I would say try the search engine but I fear you will get no hits. The answer is noted against a post from Chris in Tamworth.}

20 Aug 2012 11:43:56
Apart from the obvious lack of clinical finishing the other main concern was the set up of the back 4 in the new BR system when we have possession
The FBs head to their touchlines, the CBs are very far apart leaving a gap for the DM to fill. But if there is an erratic pass / player slipping / attacker pressing and we loose position as the defenders are so far part there are so may gaps to exploit and before you know it the opposition will have an opportunity on goal

When the opposition have possession in their own half our defenders line up in the traditional flat back four but if we lose possession in our half (we is not expected in the BR system) we are too slow to react

This will cost us goals this season until we get use this system

Leam Red

Just an observation but I like 3 5 2 as we can play 2 strikers as well as dominate possession in midfield and have width.
We have the players for this system.

20 Aug 2012 11:42:30
No pace no width no goal scorer no midfield general no organiser at the back a cen back right back a right back left back two holding mids who create little in opponents half a left winger on the right and a centre forward on the the left wing well I wonder why we got beat and worst of all a manager with a vision on 433 we haven't got players for that a long long season

20 Aug 2012 11:41:03
Cassano not happy any cha.ce {Ed002's Note - No he has already found a new club.}

20 Aug 2012 11:40:49
It really is sad, I doubt if some of the people calling for the managers head ever seen the Kop apart from on TV - are they the modern fans, that I argued with all the time on the Kop about what it means to support LFC. The ones that still call for Benitez, the ones that constantly booed Lucas - it used to stand for something being a Kopite - to support ALL players when on the pitch. Ever since I started in the boys pen, moving on to being one of 28,000 bodies stood on the Kop - I never heard a Liverpool player booed by their own fans - that is until the more modern era where money is everything, when football stopped being a sport - so so sad people on here constantly calling for the managers head, even after one game in charge.
The fall from grace is alarming - and I don't mean the team, I started watching Liverpool in the second division, when Anfield was described by Shanks as a toilet, the alarming decline is the support from so called fans.
Yes some of our players are not up to the standard of the PL, and yes it would be better if they moved on, but the vitriol from our own fans towards the players and the manager is just not what should still be the Liverpool way.

John B

If they have only seen anfield on TV then how can you argue with them on the kop?

Typical deluded muppet!

So you weren't at the game when the crowd cheered like we'd when Sammy Lee got subbed ?

Ed002, do you think we may try and get other loan signings now we have missed out on sahin and tello on loan? {Ed002's Note - Possibly, it depends who is available.}

20 Aug 2012 11:40:06
Brendan's got the right idea, his vision on transfers is really good for the club. Our list of transfer targets are/were quality additions, but if we look at things from Rodgers point of view he most be so, so frustrated about how this window has been such a struggle...

1 att midfielder -
1st choice: Sigurddson. 2nd choice: Sahin

Missed out on both, both about 90% done before being snapped away by other clubs - absolutely gutted.

1 box-to-box midfielder -
1st choice: Allen. 2nd choice:? (Granero maybe)

Got Allen, but paid more than would have liked.

1 winger (young with potential) -
1st choice: Tello. 2nd choice: Assaidi

Tello not interested, got Assaidi - but Tello would have been preferred, as his potential is endless.

2/3 forwards (with ability to play wide) -
1st choice: Borini, Dempsey, Walcott. 2nd choice: ?, ?

Got Borini, Dempsey a struggle, Walcott very much a long shot. No clear alternatives.

Now if we got all our top targets, that would have been amazing. We would definitely be challenging for top 4, and pushing on from there. But that's life. Sadly if nothing changes from now till end of window, we're looking at 5th/6th being a good result - realistic.

But if we can get all our 1st choice forwards, don't lose key players, and identify another quality midfielder - I think this window will be a success, and can have a right go at 4th. A big ask, but I like the way Brendan is thinking, and he's the right man to lead us into future transfer windows.

RC

Totally agree mate , Brendan is the man for the job - if we can get a goal scorer in I think we'll be in good shape

20 Aug 2012 11:39:45
Eds, do you expect any more arrivals into the club? {Ed002's Note - Yes - read the posts.}

20 Aug 2012 11:39:11
We will not be buying a striker unless Carroll leaves, even then who would we get? Borini was bought to be that "jack in the box, poacher" that we needed but so far doesn't look like he will be, hope I'm wrong. As for LFC being run as a business like lots of people are saying and it will take 3-5 years, that a weak excuse, the gunners as much as i dislike them have been run as a business even built a new stadium and are ALWAYS in the CL. We are plain and simply not good enough.

Tony

If borini is the jack in the box, why is he on the wings.

For borini to be a jack in the box he has to be played in the box

20 Aug 2012 11:38:07
Hi Posters and Eds.

Is it just me or do we not seem to have all the personnel to play a great 4-2-3-1 with Carroll at 1? I know it seems unlikely we would start with this, but reckon it'd be a good move. Any thoughts?

martin jol fulham manager saying that their is no bid for clint dempsey means we haven't tried for him all were crap media talks and indication for us that we should make a move for him

I no he has high wage demands but I really believe Adebayor would put us back in the running for a fourth sport and if we get that then surely his wage is paid for.the man scores goals every where he goes ed how much do you think city would let him leave for and what wages was he demanding of spurs?

Hi Eds
A question rather than a rumour: What happened to the Mexican lad that had the trial with us last year, after so much about his potential etc. Sorry if this has been answered before.
Great site
Tamores in London {Ed002's Note - Bueno - He did not sign.}

Gerrard sounds like a parrott-no need to panic and all the same retoric as last season. Well ok but unlike last season(in Leauge)Put up or shut up! Its getting tiresome

Fan with no respect!

Gerrard needs to worry about his own performance

20 Aug 2012 12:21:12
Ed's , is Liverpool interesting in Hajduk Split's player Ante Vukušić , he can be good signing , just look at Jelavic , Petric and Klasnic , they are real golscorer !!

But would he want to come to Liverpool? Unlikely!

20 Aug 2012 12:20:51
liverpool before the end of the window.

INS: lewandowski 16 million...

affelay loan with the option to buy...

a small chance of nuri sahin...

20 Aug 2012 12:19:35
Ed's, With Jol publically slamming Dempsey due you it is certain that he will leave this window? I know Roma and LFC are interested. Is there any truth to Jol's comments that LFC have Not made a bid for him? or is this part of the game?

Thanks for your work

i believe if given time BR will get it right we just need to be patient, but i am afraid that unless we can get a world class striker ie Hulk then we will lack goals just like last season. i cant see us getting top 4 at all more realistically i think 5th or 6th thoughts welcome please

Adeybyour not an option? Could we not sell Brendans"New Dawn",to him? {Ed052's Note - Wages mate, He's on about Billion quid a minute}

Plus he is no longer good enough. Has the talent but very inconsistent and wouldn't fit the team at all IMO

Cant we at least try(Lackve Champs Leauge duely noted)To poach Other clus targets. Sickve looking daft, losing out

20 Aug 2012 12:27:32
Why has a club of LFC's stature taken so long to a)Recognise we need a Striker(Remember Kenny-"Im happy with group, dont need another striker".)When so obviously did!(Jelovic passed us by)And b)When we did admitt to needing more Firepower, Why the fook aint we got that BEFORE season started=Ridiculous

20 Aug 2012 12:16:37
Got it on good authority that we have enquired about isco after missing out on sahin I think he is a much better alternative personally, views would appreciated

Lovley! thats just what we need another midfielder

Honestly havent seen enough of isco to judge

Whilst I know that us not being in champs league is the biggest obstacle to us signing top class players, does anyone also feel that our manager not being a big name is proving problematic?

No newcastle bagged two strikers in demba ba and cisse last season,i m sure our scouting department have option not every player is a glory oh we must be in the champions league player.

just hoping brendan makes some astute signings in what s left of the window

The biggest obstacle to not signing really good players is money, not CL.

We can't afford big transfer fees, but more importantly we can't afford big wages. You can always sell a "project" to any player if you pay them well enough.

Chelski, City and United are offering much more money than LFC. Even Spurs offer players more cash than we do.

In the case of Sahin, he always preferred Arsenal.

Eds, is there any chance of a goalscorer coming in? also i have heard rodgers has been given a lump sum to sign a striker is there any truth in this ? also have the gunners nicked sahin from us? {Ed002's Note - Read the posts.}

some fickle fans just moan and moan if it was up to them we will have a new manager every time we lose a game remember one thing u fickle fans failure is part or succes you can not expect any success without any failing ups and downs are part of it...

You are moaning about fans moaning.very good

We should not be losing 3-0 to teams like wba and then hear the manger tell fans that we can expect a few results like this , come on we need positive thinking from the man in charge we have enough negative vibes amongst us . oh and i think we need some one who can give us goals and some one who can intercept before the ball gets too close to our defenders who have started to think they are better than they are following all the transfer speculation .ynwa red mick tag

Sorry mate but I disagree with you saying the manager shouldn't be saying we may have a few more results like that. Reality check here please - we finished 8. 8th last season and have so far let more players go than we've replaced. Brendan is managing our expectations , we're a mid table team at present and mid table teams get beaten 3-0 at times . Now please god Brendan can turn this around and we can climb back up the table where the old Liverpool used to be !

Brendan is off to a bad start the worse defeat on the first day of a premiership season and you say he is managing our expectations we know we are not good enough but we are better than what brendan got out of the players on saturday and my expectations do not include a manager who said we may suffer many defeats like th wba one

20 Aug 2012 12:03:59
Lets face it we are not going to attract top class superstars anymore the only hope we have is buying un proven stars and turning them into class players such as alonso suarez, world class players want champions league and untill then we have to manage to get there and its not gonna happen over night so lets stop dreaming or asking any chance of this and that from real or barca it aint gonna happen, its only 1 game into the season and everyone is expecting miracles!

Guys we have only lost one game not the end of the world, its annoying but i am sure we will get over this. The truth is we are nowhere near as good as we were a 4 seasons ago and probably never will be again. We dont have the arab money to invest in us so just calm down and all those supporters that keep complaining week in week out go and support the mancs!!

Thats a new low, telling fans to go suppport the mancs. you should be ashamed of yourself

eds is it true we could not buy affellay because of lack of funds?
surely we couldv stumped up around 7m unless we arr planning fir a biggrr signing

I agree mate a steal at that price and also has bags of pace too.

We've missed out on a few bargains already in
Krasic. 5.8 million
Elm 7-8 million
Mirallas 5.8 million

I'd have took all three of these and a combined fee of less than 20 million for three quality players makes it worse.
Buying these with Afellay included comes to 27 million.

Gutted mate.

Elm is crap.

Spearing will go to Bolton on loan with the option to buy for 3m...

Adam is likely to leave but it depends on whether we can bring in another midfielder - Sahin is a no go now, he has chosen Arsenal...

Dempsey has signed, expect an announcement soon...

We are also after a striker of African descent, have no names at the moment and also a defender.

Dempsey hasn't signed..

20 Aug 2012 11:49:29
Bad start to the season but there were still a few positives. Joe Allen (despite what BBC pundits say) looks like a great prospect. Great touch, pace and desire. Though Borini had a bad game, it was only his first EPL game for LFC and he still showed some good crosses. Saurez looks sharp and hungry. Ok he missed a couple of sitters but it was just one game and he created a lot.

Things that worried me are:
1- Ironically, Gerrard looks like the player who is most misfit in BR's system. Primarily because Gerrard has no patience for holding the ball. Everytime the ball comes to him, he tries to come up with a super quick one touch pass. He was the main culprit in causing us the match against WBA. BR will need a lot of guts to sort him out or bench him if its not working.

2- After the display, if BR is still looking to sell Caroll, it is a scarey sign. We definitely need plan B when things are not working and Caroll is essential for that.

3- Glen Johson cannot play at defence, full stop. Either we play him in the midfield or get rid of him. Not sure why Robinson did not start against WBA.

4- How can we let aquallani go without giving him a chance and give Joe cole chance after chance?

5- What's the point in playing Sterling in pre-season when you are not going to keep him even on the bence. He was easily the best player in pre-season.

Now to rumours. As most of us know now, Sahin will not sign for pool. Dempsey has also changed his mind after seeing the first game. Both Sahin and Demps will end up at Arsenal. LFC will still try to pursuade Tello but he will also not sign as he thinks that LFC will contribute nothing to his development, based on how decent players have gone to the club and deteriorated during the last 3-4 years. The club will have to compromise and go for a couple of teir 2 players like the Moroccan we have just signed. The only Tier A player we can get is Adam Johnson, who is still willing to come but BR does not seem to be a big admirer. This will be a mistake by BR as AJ is a special talent and City are fools to be thinking about letting him go.

After the first five games, we will have 3-4 points on the table and would already be 11-12 points down on the league leaders and 8-9 points away from a CL spot. This will probably make most fans realize that this season will also be a 7-8 position finish at best. It will take BR (or any manager for that matter) 2-3 seasons to make the team decent enough to challenge for CL spots and probably 6-7 years to have a go at the EPL title. I hope the fans and owners give BR enough time to achieve that.

Red With a Crystal Ball

I dont think anyone changes their mind by just watching a game.

Hey people I like most was upset at the weekend but we must no become chelsea by chopping our manager every year he will get it right given time and support by us the BEST FANS IN THE WORLD Y.N.W.A JON96 {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has had more managers than Chelsea in the past 3 or 4 years. If it isn't working out then the manager has to be changed.}

Don't want to be a pain but I believe Chelsea have changed managers 5 times where as we have changed 4 times ;)

Rafa, Roy, Kenny and Brendan.

Big Phil, Hiddink, Ancelotti, AVB and DiMatteo

Ed will probably correct me now though lol

Red Raw {Ed002's Note - In the last three years Chelsea has had three managers - in four the others. Would you rather count owners?}

Don't agree Eds that if its not working out teams should sack the manager (if thats what your suggesting). Its an obvious short term answer but many times i do think if teams had stuck by their manager and given it time they would probably be better off in the long run. If for not other reason than knowing the sysytem, relationships and understanding...and also of course respect, unity and direction that all understand

If AC leaves, Jovetic will be BR top target. Dempsey to join by wednesday night. Spearing to Bolton. Adam to Everton or Stoke. And Lennon or Walcott or AJ. one of the three. Amorebeita is still a possibility. As well as Mbiwa of montpellier. LEROY THE LONG JOHN

Not enough time left in the window for all that

its wrong how liverpool fans start slating gerrard after 1 poor performance, he has carried us for years, won us the fa cup in 2006 with a thunderbolt in the closing minutes, got us into the final of champions league final with another great strike and you slate him saying hes to old for a poor performance against west brom. maybe you forgot how good he was in the ueros? you lot who say this make me sick. and what happened to give rodgers time to change us, nope 1 loss and he becomes terrible. dont wanna bring this up but look at mr purple nose when he took ovr the mancs, relagation zone, nearly sacked but the board believed withtime he can do what he wants and he did. i myself am 18 and look forward to the future of brendan gradually changing lfc it wont happen over night but real fans will be willing to wait like me.

It is refreshing that , at your young age , you can remember when Gerrard could play .

Gerrard spent the entire week saying he could still do the Advanced Midfielder role and then spent the entire afternoon shrugging his shoulders and looking disinterested .

As for your point about the Euros , he played in a different position then .

Thanks Stevie , what a legend , probably one of the greatest servants to the club , and bye-bye .

Look Gerrard has been granted sainthood by Liverpool fans for the super shows over the years, but lets not kid ourselves for every super show there always have been more mediocre non shows, and last Saturday was a very good example of Stevie at his reckless unthinking best which directly contributed to Agger getting sent off. If Adam or Henderson played like Stevie did at the weekend you would be lashing them out of it, so why again should Stevie be exempt then?

Crane

The problem is that he last played well in 2006. get shot of him and carra. both have had their day

I'd love to know what people disagree about? Because all of this is true so if your gonna disagree atleast explain why

If Kenny did not get a chance on here what hope has Gerrard?

Fans need to vent their anger however wrong and they have chosen Gerrard as their whipping boy that's the world we live in

Clearly Gerrard has not become a bad player since the summer however its makes no difference as long as he plays for LFC he should carry us or he's finished

Some of us real fans have been waiting for longer than you ve been alive lad

Look at rodgers away form last year with swansea, scary

O and also thankgod this website wasnt up when bill shankly lost his first game in charge 4-0. and also just read pep guardiola lost his first game in charge of barcelona to numancia.

Its 1 game i cant believe some people, and you may have been waiting for longer then ive been alive but surely that means you should understand more then me that we should get of our players and managers back over 1 game and give him a few seasons to get to how he wants to play. or lets just sack rodgers, get rid of gerrard and be in a worse place then now, and one thing is for sure most people will come on here saying fsg are rubbish why didnt he get a chance blah blah. back your team and show some lfc passion that we are known for, we have won things put yourself in arsenal fans shoes and think ourself lucky.

Hi Eds, Do you think, with the Dempsey saga possibly not coming to fruition and Adam and Cole being told they can leave, a suitable bid of around £20 mil could prize J Moutinho away from Porto? Would be a great addition!?

I know hes a big player and he would command a big fee but from what i have read, he is looking to leave! Cheers Jamie {Ed002's Note - I would not expect Moutinho to move to Liverpool this summer.}

I don't think Gerrard played well on Saturday, but I wouldn't go writing him off.
I'm sure the fact that he only featured for 20 mins in pre-season didn't help. He is still a valuable asset to LFC ( but that doesn't mean if he's not up to scratch, we shouldn't mention it )

20 Aug 2012 11:12:06
Is it true Spurs have made an approach for Andy Carroll, for a fee if around 14.5 mil seems awfully cheap hes a good player he needs more time hell do well

20 Aug 2012 11:26:19
eds you seem to say players coming in now depends on sales,so there s nomoney left to buy the one thing we desperately needed from last season a proven goalscorer,, surely this should have been top priority all along, and please dont say borini, he s young he s got potential but hes too young fo rso much goalscoring responsibilty on his shoulders.

dempsey isnt a regular goalscoring striker either, he had a top season last season but he cant be counted on for 20goals a year

loic remy, giroud(9 million)kevin gameiro, salomon rondon, burakyilmaz were all available and proven goalscorers at the start of the summer and allfor a reasonable price so why have we not targetted a proven scorer fornow. everything seems to being builtfor two to three years time ifyou ask me as thelikesofhendo allen borini hit 23-24 starting to mature into a top team which is great but why not spend 15million orso on a striker for now and the future, none of the above mentioned proven scorers are exactly ancient

i mean its so obvious from last season what the problem was, wecreated loads and loads of chances and didnt takeenough of them, with a decent cf last season we would have finished 3rd. so whyon earth hasnt a proper cf been on the agenda this summer. its a rather large oversight on the part of rodgers considering we have lost goals in the form of kuyt bellamy and maxi to load such responsibilty on borini s young shoulders

iamsure assaidi will chip in with 10 goalsif he gets timeon the field and maybe downing and borini willfillthe deficit o losing the three forementioned

tom1975 {Ed002's Note - This is nothing new - there was never the giant cash pile that was being suggested. Giving random lists of players that the club had no interest in really takes the discussion nowhere.}

So why pay 15 mill for allen

The question then ed is why dont the club have an interest in a proven goalscorer, do they not see it as a priority position to strengthen considering our failures in front of goal last season

tom1975 {Ed002's Note - Boring has arrived and there is interest in Dempsey.}

Ed you seem to have missed the point of my question,

a proven 20 plus goalscorer, dempsey has done it one season, and borini is a youngster who cant be expected toweigh in with that many goals, surely we are looking at alternatives to dempsey who is more a second striker/attacking midfielder than a number 9

boring has arrived funny typo btw ed

tom1975 {Ed002's Note - I can't see this discussion is going anywhere. If you are not happy with the direction the manager wants to take the team then you have to either suck it up or join the growing throng that wants him out.}

20 Aug 2012 11:21:45
Gaston Ramirez, dempsey, Adam Johnson are these all still possibilities

Hi liverpool fans, arsenal fan in peace here. Just wanted to see what you fans think of jonjo Shelvey. I'm curious because we both went to the same high school before he left as he was playing for Charlton at 15. He was very arrogant - probably because he was already playing in the first team for Charlton. Anyway I like to see him do well because I played football with him a few times and just because I know him.

Good luck on your season

Clock end gooner

I think he is as good as Gerard at his age.
If he keeps his feet on the ground he will become a great player

Could be the nearest thing we have to replace gerrard long -term, good passing , can get forward , can take a man on in one to ones, descent skill. great shooting from him outside the box, on the downside hes a bit headstrong and very rash in his tackling, i expect a few red cards in his first full season or two, also get the feeling if he trains hard and looks to improve his game he will be a england international for many years , he has the talent, just hope he works at his game like all the really good players do , good luck for the season mate , hope you do well clock end............lfc

What are your lot doing Selling RVP to the mancs? Your board is nearly as insane as the bunch of loons in charge of Liverpool!

Canny

I think he will be a great player he looked really good in pre season imo loaning him to blackpool last season has done him the world od good the only thing he needs to start doing though is to control some of his tackling its a bit wild at times , good luck also for the season ....steve

He is good enough for charlton but we are liverpool and we need better players than john joe who i hope does goood.

As good as gerrard at his age that is a very over the top opinion for an ordinary player , stevie gee could do everthing play full back , midfield and striker if required we were lucky to have him , its not his fault that we are in the mess we are its the great expectations we have of average players like john joe.red mick tag

If spurs really want Carroll maybe a deal could be done defoe n 15m . Tbh i like AC but its seams his not in br thinking. id give Morgan a run in the middle of Suarez n boroni. Any way hoping we sign a forward n not another mid fielder need a poucher . that's all from me I'll keep the faith n give br time anything better then 8th is progress remember . ynwa

Forget defoe. he is not the answer as we need a top striker. i would go for lewnandowski of dortmund. i understand the club are looking at a young lad at st eitiene. he scored 16 goals last season to and use to play for Ac milan.

cheers jc.

Not up for defoe at all

Aubameyang you mean??

Hi Eds, love the site. Really enjoy reading the news and gossip.

Just saw Stevie G's comments on the official website, not going to post the whole thing, but just some excerpts.

"It's important that the likes of myself and the other experienced players take responsibility for a poor defeat."

Gerrard was keen to criticise his own performance at the weekend, insisting: "I made a mistake which led to (Agger's) sending off. I gave the ball away in the first place and that led to Daniel being put in trouble. I take full responsibility for that."

Good. At least he's aware. At least he's stepping up as a captain to acknowledge his own and others' poor performances. Can we stop slating him on here?

Keith YNWA

He was crap what else could he say, youll see against city whether he is taking responsibilty or not

This is exactly what the team, club and fans need to realise that sometimes the players just don't perform and it doesn't mean the manager is terrible and should be sacked etc.

This is the reason why Gerrard is still a world class player and a model professional, the honesty and realistic approach of a poor performance.

Roll on thursday will be totally different.

Jordan

I know i will get shot down in flames for this but stevie ind carra are spent forces. the time has come to bench them both if they cant deliver decent performances. there is no time for sentimentality

20 Aug 2012 15:07:34
Lol at Gerrard being a spent force. What's that based on? One game?

Cos he was probably our most productive attacking player last season after Suarez, despite rarely playing as an attacking midfielder. No point in benching someone when you don't have a better replacement.

I'm sure 'the Gerrard is finished' crowd will straw man this as people living in the past, and just assuming he's still good because he's Gerrard, but that's not what I'm doing. He played fine last season and will do plenty to justify his continued presence in the team this season.

People were saying Carra was finished for a good 2 seasons before he actually stopped being good enough to be first choice.

- Something Red -

20 Aug 2012 10:50:35
Eds, just wanted to ask for your view on Jordan Rhodes. Last I read was about a week ago when you said we (LFC) have no interest in him. Do you think that has changed?

And would he cut it in the premier league for a team like liverpool? From the player profile I can gather it would be a little gamble, but one worth taking. Especially if I think about LFC's lack of a real finisher (apart from maybe Borini).

Thanks,

JanBorman {Ed002's Note - I don't see why anything would have changed.}

Are you obsessed with this lad.

Why is there no interest in Rhodes? he's scoring goals at an efficient rate and even for his country now...and I don't believe he would be very expensive

20 Aug 2012 10:50:16
Eds do you think if walcott signed, we could play him through the middle with suarez on the left, and borini on the right ? i think these 3 could alternate positions and torture defenders..

And teams would defend deep to counter the threat of us getting behind them: without a tall target man to offer another type of threat I reckon we'll struggle to break teams down.

why do people always say dream on when Cavani is mentioned? he plays for napoli that are in the europa league they're in the same boat as us, why do we need CL to lure him when he doesnt have it already? i dont think we'll get him due to cost but not because were europa league {Ed002's Note - People say it because of cost and interest from elsewhere.}

Was it just me or has everyone forgot how poor Kelly was on Saturday. People seem to be giving out about others yet he was as poor as Gerrard. Passing and defending were both awful. Could he be the new Spearing. A local lad you just cant cut it?

I dont think i have ever read so much trash

Kelly was poor because Agger was taking an early bath, Skrtel was having a nightmare and Johnson was out of position.

Does anyone remember when Gerrard first broke into the first team? Tall, lanky youth that ran around like a headless chicken, gave the ball away and tried huge crossfield passes that mostly were cut out. Good job we didn't get rid of him then. Young players will always have bad games and take a season or 2 of playing regularly to gain consistency and quality. Our problem over the last 10 years is that no 17/18 year olds have been given 30 games a season consistently to learn and improve. It's no good bringing them in at 23 when all they've seen is ressie football and expecting them to step up.
Just my opinion though.

Simon

A young player still adjusting yes let's all get on his case & errode his confidence! Have some people not learned from the Lucas situation lets encourage not condemn eh? Martin Kelly potential future captain........ Paisley's genius

I rate Kelly a lot. But aslo have to say i do not remember Gerrard being pants much at all. Your absolutely right though that young players will try the killer pas and run too often and screw up, and gerrard did also, but mostly he was electric

gareth

Y'see this is what happens when too much is expected of young players. The fans get on them for a couple of bad performances. This is why when people suggest Sterling, Suso, Coates, Kelly etc. should play every week because they're obviously going to be hungrier and therefore better than established internations (seriously, think about how simplistic a view that is), I tell them to have their heads examined. It's a lot of pressure for a young player to have to play every week, especially defenders since their mistakes are punished more.

Insua was eulogised by the fans as an outstanding prospect in 08/09 when he played about a dozen games. He had to play virtually every game the following season and he got panned. They need to be eased in, not chucked in at the deep end and then hammered if they start to flounder.

Kelly will be a Liverpool first team player for 10 years and a good one at that. Spearing never played as well as Kelly usually has when he's been called upon. Lay off him.

Eds - Is Daniel Sturridge a consideration? Doesn't appear in Chelseas plans and would fit into the system which Brendan uses? Any thoughts {Ed002's Note - If Liverpool make an acceptable offer to the club and player then Chelsea would not stand in his way if he wanted to move.}

Daniel sturridge is pants

Really poor player ............

Seems unlikely given the fact Chelsea only have 2 strikers {Ed002's Note - That will change before the end of the window.}

All this crap about him being poor? He isn't poor at all. He hogs the ball and should pass more and LOOK UP! But crap? Stop talking nonsense. When he was with bolton on load (i think it was bolton?) he was awesome and since has scored some great goals.

Honestly, most of you seem say this rubbish then the moment such a player is with us he will be the best thing since cake, until a few bad games when they Deadwood again!

just nonsense talk

People on this site frustrate me, we have to believe in Rodgers for him to be a success, he is the right man, he has proven that he can get the best out of insignificant players like he did at Swansea, we don't essentially need to go out and buy a 35 million striker who's had one good season, I would much prefer a youngster who has been consistently scoring 15+ goals. Also people saying Steven Gerrard is past it need to get there heads checked. We had a very bad day at the office on Saturday and I believe this may be a good thing, it gives a chance for Rodgers to analyse our mistakes and see what he needs to buy. Remember we are liverpool fans, the best fans in the world, we must live up to our status and support our team through thick and thin, and show Brendan Rodgers that he will NEVER walk alone.

I'm sure most of the so called fans slagging off the manager, players and the club in general are not lfc fans at all.
i just don't understad this mentality of the last few years of sack the manager, sell this or that player and just non stop moan moan moan.
Liverpool fans never used to be this way
if you want a seasonal rotation of manager go support chelsea.
and fans of other clubs coming on here just to insult the club, fans etc can just do 1

We really have got to get over thinking that if a player plays for Man u then we shouldnt have them.
Its ridiculous,we want the best players to play for us no matter were they have been before,i want us to win matches/trophies not make some infantile comments about not signing someone because he played for Man u.
If Owen is fit enough and BR thinks he could do a job then bring it on!
If he does not then dont sign him its as simple as that, and thats all it should be based on.

You seem to forget the way in which owen left the club, the united link just adds to it

eire red

I'm utterly pratical about this. If Owen (or Torres, for that matter) came back to the club and played well, we'd forgive him. The thing is, I don't think Owen will play well. I don't think he'll play at all because he'll spend more than half the time injured.

Giving Owen £10k a week plus app and goal bonuses would probably end up being a waste of £10k a week. He was fit for about a third of his time at United.

Then there's the 'oppurtunity cost' of potentially omitting Morgan or somebody like that from a League Cup game or two because we're trying to put some match fitness into Owen before his legs fall off again.

Pointless move, imho.

How much did we pay for Borini? Any more than 1m is a waste of money - again! Chelsea fans warned us not to buy him but Roy Rodgers did. Mid-table manager buying mid-table players

I prefer ted

You've based not buying him on one game? Because he scored a quality goal against Gomel was you still saying it then?

Yes that's the way! Listen to all Chelsea fans because they are all experts! Ever tried thinking for yourself? Try it it's liberating friend! Guess what the media isn't always correct they indulge in a journalistic tactic known as "lying"........ B. Paisley's genius

Guess no one was moaning when he scored against Gomel hmmm...I wonder why we didn't sell Steve, Suarez, and Torres after one performance.

Have u watched his games in italy

Joe Allen £15M oh dear! Another big money buy on a kid that kept giving the ball away and the last 60 mins went AWOL! Brendan what were you thinking! come back Roy all is forgiven!
TrueKop

To sign off with "Kop" must be a lie! Allen was miles better than any other in midfield
John

Which match were you watching.....he was our best player on the day

YNWA

You having a laugh?

S-U-B

TrueKop my arse!!
Allen looked impressive from the off considering all eyes were on him, its intimidating enough playing for a new team but one with expectations such as ours is a different ball game! I thought the kid handled the pressure well.

And to quote "come back Roy all is forgiven" are you on crack?!?!?! forget the result, that team looked a lot more comfortable with the ball and confident in there play than we ever did under Hodgson, this is a new team that needs time to gel! Not persons spouting poultry the first chance they get!

Proud Kop!

TrueKop, shouldnt that be TrueBlue ?
We dont need whingeing supporters go back to your own sit my dear chap
tel 1949

96% pass accuracy..... yeah that's giving the ball away..... person!

The most factually incorrect post of the year (possibly)...check your stats before posting such rubbish you person !

Red Til Dead

What was you watching?.

Mate your r******* he completed 95% of his passes, your not a true supporter

What a tool.

He was probably our best player on saturday and actually outshone both Stevie and Lucas.

You can see the kid is a very good player and technically very good. He's an excellent signing.

Liverpool could sign Messi and some fans would say he was too short and not pretty enough. The negativity is depressing.

Joe allen missed placed one pass in the whole game.... So what you on about

Well thought point there truekop I mean you can tell everything from a player's first 90 mins took Beardsley half a season to settle terry mc dermott, ray Kennedy & Lucas 2 years & personally thought Allen did well for his first game & think he will get better & come back Roy? Should he bring poulsen back as well?........... Paisley's genius

Can I remind people, we got beat by a mid tabled team 3-0 and they missed a pen. It could have been a lot worse. Some people have said he was the pick of the bunch, if that's true then we are looking at a bottom half finish if not worse, this season. Out of our first 4 games WBA was the easiest fixture by far. I think it is other people that need to get real! We are not the team we once were and with Brendan in charge I hate to think were we will end up!!

Another Bitter Blue....

Roy, all is not forgotten.

Change your name on here lad ( or girl )- doubt if you've ever seen the Kop apart from on TV - or are you one of the modern fans that I argued with all the time on the Kop about what it means to support LFC. The ones that still call for Benitez, the ones that constantly booed Lucas.

John B

Are you mental by far the best Liverpool player on the pitch

I really hate to say it, but TrueKop is right!!

I'd like us to give Suso some games playing where stevie does, behind the striker, he is like our version of David Silva or Juan Mata, the sort of player we've needed for a while..

Thank God for QPR and Norwich, otherwise we'd be bottom!! It was a poor performance all round; But Sunday is another day! bring on the City!!

Anyone else struggling with kid explanations? I understand how Saturday happened, but after the last two seasons my nine year old son was so excited last week for the new season - then 'it' happened..

There was so much genuine disappointment behind real tears, and very hard to explain when they are that age.

So anyone with good explanations that have worked for nine year olds et al, please share! Might help the rest of us feel a little better too :-)

Ant_Belfast

Ant_Belfast-- iam a 38 year old man an i feel the same disappointment and dont no how to explane it my self. but tell your son that he will remember the good days an games for the rest of his life and that will bring him so much joy an happyness because supporting liverpool is like being on a roller coaster full of up an downs but the ups will always out way the downs if he dont belive u stick on the dvd of 2005 champions league final an always have hope in your heart .
liverpool till i die

Know what you mean but just tell him it will take a while . wink and make him feel as if your confident about overall outcome of season and after , i think thats what most of us are doing ,

My 8-year-old daughter felt the same way... I simply told that game on Saturday was a lot like life... Sometimes, against all of your expectations, results like that can, and will happen sometimes... and it's how you learn from mistakes, and how you perform in your next game that truly demonstrates your character... Essentially I told her the old cliche: "it's not how many times you get knocked down that matters, it's how many times you get back up."
...that seemed to satisfy her, now I just have to convince myself, because I was, and still am upset about losing!

Hope that helps!

Good morning reds and fantastic Eds,

I'm a long time reader and user of the site but very infrequent poster but I feel obliged to make a few comments about where Liverpool are at at the moment. I would love a bit of feedback from you all! I sat last night after the kids had gone to bed and rewatched the WBA game in full. Having been very frustrated on Saturday afternoon I'm really glad I did as I was able to watch more analytically and impartially than I did on Saturday.
I've read posters using words like disgrace, embarrassment and humiliating to describe the result and while the actual score line was a huge disappointment, the performance was encouraging. It's hard for a team to legislate for Gera's wonder strike and it completely changed the pattern of the game at a time when Liverpool dominated in terms of possession and chances created. Allen and Lucas looked really effective in midfield and while Gerard was quiet by his standards, it was a rare poor performance. In the second half we chased the game and WBA exploited this exceptionally well. The errors by the CBs were born out of anxiety and a desire to step further up the field and impose the game on the opposition. On another day and with a bit of luck, Liverpool would have scored in the first half and then it would have been WBA who were chasing the game and making errors. I agree with some posters that Downing looked very low in confidence and it's obvious that he really needs a couple of goals and a run of good games. As fans we can help him by supporting his efforts rather than moaning and sniping.

FSG have publicly stated that this is a 3-5 year rebuilding process. They are aware that Brendan Rogers needs time and patience and support. We are known throughout the world as the most loyal and knowledgeable fans a club could ask for. Sometimes I wonder when I read comments on here! Get behind you team and your players. Have realistic and reasonable ambitions for the season and settle in for a journey towards success that isn't going to happen overnight.

CD75

Great post mate , we all need to be patient & get behind the team do people not realize if the fans are negative that then rubs of on the players we are nowhere near as bad as some are making out ....Steve

Good post - only thing is there is a 3-5 year rebuilding process which is fine we need to get behind the manager and support him, but how can we rebuild with no money? We have to sell to buy.. In my opinion the owners should be supporting the manager just as much as we should.

YNWA

Fair enough mate, but that game was reflective of last season, we can't score and we fall apart if things don't go our way, it doesn't bode well 'm afraid.

Jan

Bloody hell man.... Downing has been low in confidenc all last season. Gerrard has not been on form since he came back from injury and we have been talking about taking our chances for years now... Yes a new manage has just been installed but apart from our game agaist Bayern we still look like we wont score. We need a prolific striker badly and have wanted one for years. Thats why everyone is moaning. If this was a one of game then its wrong for us to complain but we have been poor for ages. Yes the play has been good under BR but we still lack what everyone can see except for either FSG or BR and that is quality wingers and strikers.
I agree to lay off the sack the manger and board rants but the display was disgravefull as we gave up and players like Stevie never looked like they wanted to make the difference. The only player that did was Carrol when he was on and Suarez all game (just shame about his shooting)

Speedy

Loyal yes, knowledgeable i would disagree with that mate.the writing has been on the wall for years regarding the financial black hole lfc where sliding into but nobody took a blind bit of notice or seemed to care.lfc should have been planning a new 60.000 stadium at least 15yrs ago but the fans would never have worn that (leaving anfield back then no chance) then when things go bad 80% of lfc fans resort to the "bring back so and so" campayne,it worked in the past so surely it will work again.blinded by your past, blinded by your hatred of utd, blinded to the dire defensive football played for years poor players not up to lfc standard, average managers and piss poor owners.and worst of all god help anyone who points out the failings or who critisized players or policy over the years be it fans,ex-players,media ect ect cause they get slaughtered by the YNWA brigade as gutter-press,traitor,bitters supporter ect ect.the lfc fans have built a defensive wall around the club to defend the club against anyone who would voice an opinion, unfortunatly everything inside that wall is a throw back to the past while outside it the world has moved on.the wall in the east was called the iron curtain, yours unfortunatly is called YNWA.no doubt i will be castigated for this post if it is printed for the very reasons i have explained, but the lfc fans that are knowledgeable and who never are allowed to voice their opinion by the YNWA brigade will agree

Negotiations over the revised deal are set to be at an advanced stage, with Agger expected to sign very shortly. The new terms are understood to pay Agger £80,000 per week, a salary the Mirror suggests is commensurate with the £25m transfer fee Liverpool demanded from any interested party. City were joined in their pursuit of Agger by Barcelona, the newspaper adds.

The announcement of the agreed new contract is expected imminently in order to improve the mood around Anfield after the first Premier League match of the Brendan Rodgers era got off to a poor start.

Sell him... the money is too good

20 Aug 2012 10:12:42
Hi Eds, now that Sahin is joining Arsenal (and to be honest I don't blame him: champions league or Europa?), who do you think we'll target as a replacement? If Spearing and Adam hopefully leave we'll defo need 1 midfielder as back-up, especially for Lucas!
Kitch {Ed002's Note - Much will depend, as I have said, on sales unless a loan or free agent can be found.}

20 Aug 2012 10:12:09
Hei eds. I do understand the intress in sahin because he is a great player and would be a great addition. But if we loose out of him, do you think BR would go after another midfielder or shift focus to a forward? Henderson and shelvey seems to me to better cover than cole and Carroll, if he stays. And do you think another signing depending a sale of Carroll? Norwegianred. {Ed002's Note - Much will depend, as I have said, on sales unless a loan or free agent can be found.}

Hey guys i dont know if any of you (maybe eds could confirm or paste my last comment about luis suarez staying) but thos morning we have had another call from our own daniel agger he is a lovely guy! he is asking us to redesign his home as he was getting bored of the decor. whilst he didnt say he was staying it all seems to fall in place in the press about being offeed a contract his ynwa tatteo and his give away comment "getting bored of the decor" looks like another of our best players is here to stay.

Oh love these

`quel chance` Carroll didn`t start and C.Adam didn`t play otherwise it would have been those two the most ,most most `vilain, ugly, not a footballer, crap ect, ect... of the team by most of the poster here or elsewhere. suarez inability, gerrard, lucas bad play would have not come into the microscope.

20 Aug 2012 10:07:46
I might be a little naive but I am getting a bit sick with these comments "we need a striker". It doesn't matter who plays up front for Liverpool there is still a major need for the rest of the team to score goals. I know that Suarez 'missed' 4/5 chances on Saturday but at least he was there to miss them. That is more than you can say for anyone else. Having seen him play for Ajax I believe that the goals will begin to flow for Suarez. When a match is lost the blame is always on Gerrard and Suarez instead of a blanket responsibility. Finally - Carragher said last season that he would know when it was time to quit - it is time to quit, Carragher!
Dutchmal

In my view it is totally unfair to play Suarez as a centre forward up against two giant centre backs , he is a world class talent who did all of his best Ajax work on the right of a front three .

20 Aug 2012 10:03:11
Losing out on Sahin, whats next? A creative midfielder is needed, another striker, and as seen with the lapses in coverage on Saturday, someone who can slot in now in LB when Enrique is knocked (if Robinson is the coverage, then why did he not start on Saturday).

Anyways, without Sahin, whats the options now?

Will everyone calm down on losing out on Sahin or Tello. THey were only going to be loans and they are not yet world class players that would make that much of a difference. Players like Dempsey will be the ones that will make the difference now. Sahin would have been an ok player for half way in the season and you moaners would have moaned how rubbish the loan was after 3 games.
Lets move on from this

20 Aug 2012 10:03:02
Hello Eds

Feel sorry for you to have to read all these negative posts, but I guess some are warranted after that abject display. I think what made it worse was how we gave up and never looked like we could back into it. I just wish some fans would lay off the stupid "sack the manager or FSG" rant as its madness to say this.
I would like to see Brendan grow some balls and drop Gerrard. He is kinda past it now and look to the future. Lucas is also far from match fitness at the moment and we are better off playing fit youngsters that want to fight for a position like Shelvey and Sterling. Adam gets slated every game but he would have made difference with Allen in midfield. I think Rogers thought Stevie and Lucas were fitter than what they were. We have still not addressed a serious issue of playing smaller teams with more respect and not to think we will roll them just by turning up. I think a stick of dynamite is needed up our a*ses is needed against small teams.
One thing I really really really would like to see is for a manager to actually shut up talking about the need to take our chances and getting someone to score our goals and to actually sign someone that will. Dempsey is needed to replace Downing and Suarez needs to play of someone up top not be the main striker because he couldnt score in a brothel. His shooting is atrocious for a striker.

20 Aug 2012 10:03:01
I want a debate about Stevie G and his role in the team. He is England's captain but does not seem to dominate the midfield like he once did. I know it was coincidence that Liverpools form dipped when he came back into the team after injury, when Adam and Lucas were missing. I notice he really chastises his teammates with any error (not a bad thing) he did it to Downing after a bad pass against WBA but SG reciprocated only minutes later with a worst pass. I feel (only a gut feel) that some of the team are bullied into risk free safe play. I also notice he doesn't work as hard as he used to and his long range passing doesn't fit with the short passing strategy. I think and it is only a thought, what if the Manager said, "finish your career as a central defender" . He could pace in himself better, his shouting and yelling at his back four would be a good thing, he has great long range passing, ideal for hitting teams on the break with an incisive pass from 50m and it allows someone like Henderson to strengthen midfield. I think SG influence is a issue that gets over looked.
Thoughts.
Beancounter

I think you make a number of very fair points. I've noticed that the team on the whole tend to play better when he's not in the side. I don't think it's that he plays badly, I think the rest of the team rely on him too much, and I agree with what you say about the team playing safe. He was gonna have a go at Suarez when he hit that long shot against Norwich last season - but that was proof that sometimes taking a risk really pays off. Rooney and Owen when they were 18/19 would take the ball and run past players which often paid off. I love Stevie G, he has given so much to LFC, I would never suggest selling him, but I think it's time to explore what is more beneficial for LFC. He seemed to be the only player who could provide adequate service for Andy last season, but as we know that style of play is behind us now. Good post, it seems to be almost criminal to question the inclusion of Stevie, but as we always say no one is bigger than the club

I agree with your sentiment. I think Gerrard is not suited to the style of play we are trying to implement. It took bentiez a long time to find gerrard's best position and that was in behind a lone striker in a counter attacking team.

Gerrard has lost his physical drive from Midfield that made him the player he is and is more and more taking to berating his team-mates rather than encourageing them. I think he should be played off the bench if we need plan B alongside Carroll.

as for being a defender. Gerrard does not have the discipline to play there. He would be too often sucked into positions that leave the rest of the defence exposed. You could see this when he played in central midfield and needed the back-up of mascherano and Xabi.

Let us remmebr him when he was a valuable memeber of the team and match winner. not the shadow of a player he has become.

Orrin

Gerrards style of play is best in 4-4-2 were he can step out of midfield and support the attacks, and there is a holding midfielder to cover for him. In 4-3-3 he just leaves us too exposed when he moves up the field ......I worry for him under Brenda......either that or I worry for our club if Brenda can't see it ! From what I've seen of us in the 3 competitive games so far, I really don't see why anyone can say don't worry, Rodgers is like a kid with a new toy that he doesn't really know how to operate - which is why he is falling back on his former players (his comfort blanket!)
Rafa played Stevie out wide on the right, not Stevies favourite position, but by God it was his most effective position, underlined by the 20+ goals he scored - it baffles me how managers that succeeded Rafa can't see this! We alsoi had the best defense in the league, you can quote tikkatakka footy at me all you want, but this is all about results and I have seen no reason why our performances will improve on last season or the season before at this time.

Hi eds.. Can I ask if anyone knows, did the callejon rumours have any legs, did we have interest in signing him
If that's a yes are we still and is there a possibility him joining? I heard there was a possibility last week when it came out we signing someone who hadn't been mentioned before, that turned out to be the morrocen not head anything of him since. Thanks eds. very addictive at this time of the year & January thanks for your work time & efforts.
DAVID_K_01 {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any serious interest in Callejon although a number of clubs have apparently enquired as to his availability. I don't see him being made available.}

I don't understand why BR, or Dalglish play our first choice starting 11 against the lower league sides. Last season we battled hard against the top 6 teams, but got so complacent against the other teams. When we played Blackburn last season, when KD used that game to decide who would play in the following FA Cup match they played so hard to prove themselves. He could have Gerrard, Downing and Suarez out and played Suso, Sterling and Pacheco/Morgan, they would have worked their asses off if it meant they'd have a chance at playing more regularly. The preferred starters need an attitude change if we are to actually compete. We are not owed a top 4 finish, we need to earn it.

Happy to see if the rumours are true about Spearing & Adam leaving..

But conflicting reports on Cole, EDs and many saying he has been asked he can leave or is going. But various other trusted sources also telling Cole is going No where.

It would be indeed very bad decision to keep him and can't think of any ways Yonks will fancy the idea of keeping useless an injury prone, old player who is on massive wages.

May be this Cole is trying to persuade BR to keep him so he can enjoy his wage pack, lol see that WESTBROM game he was pretending to be fit, and to be on the pitch to show BR he can play...

I for one would be more happy to see Joe Cole leaving this window before any player currently at the club,

He must go, we cannot afford to keep him with the limited financial resources we have at the moment if BR words are true,..

Whats your info on Cole situation Eds?

And what are others opinion on Cole, Should BR keep him?

Bosco {Ed002's Note - If a club makes an acceptable offer for Joe Cole then Liverpool will not stand in his way. Alternatively, perhaps Liverpool could seek to have him agree to the cancellation of his contract putting aside the money the club still owe him knowing that he would be compensated by a signing on fee elsewhere. EDS.why are we not in for adam johnson right now only 25 years old class act,man city state he can go they dont want him,an i think 8m would snach him downing need's the wake up call,an that boy adam johnson would take his place in a heart beat no problem, well on downings form right now no worrys.come on lfc get the lad in,plus 1 striker is needed finger's crossed it is a top top signing but with no money its going to be hard we need to sell COLE,ADAM,JAY,hope we keep carroll but rodger's want's him gone now that would unlock some fund's or for the wages, hope we can bring in 2 more ed.window bang's shut soon.walking on with hope.jay essex red for life red till dead......

Oh how our faith would be restored if we could only get a goal scorer! We are a match for anyone on our day but it's so frustrating not having a poacher in the team!

Owen we need michael owen he is a pure goal scorer and would score more than all are forwards put together.

Owen is yesterday's man. You go nowhere with yesterdays men except backwards.

Bring him back his on a free, pay as you play would be the way for him, bellamy done us proud why not owen, why not i would be happy if he were to come back home,he know's where the back of the net is you could help are young striker's out in training too,an it would give the fans a lift.jay essex red for life red till dead........

We have already got one joe cole we dont need another

We seem to be struggling in the transfer market. Ed do you believe FSG think that our aquisitions so far are anywhere near enough to bridge the gap? Bellamey was a player who offered a real threat and that has not been replaced.

We struggled for goals last year and still that area has not in any definitive way been addressed.

I can only conclude FSG are not aiming for top 4 this season, but if that is their thinking the financial implications would be massive.

Or are FSG tidying the club up financially to sell?

I just cant see a coherent strategy in their ownership.
Poor PR and poor decisions on personel.

The chaos is growing.

Ian Ayre is starting to physically resemble Rick Parry and he seems equally adept as Rick at not closing down transfer targets.

Concerned {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has signed three players and are looking at a couple more as we know - how is that "struggling"?}

And we spent around 25 mil balancing wage structure doing this as well. We are not struggling just trying to run as a business!
John

Football is not really the realm of smart business. The fact is we may be financially sound in 5 years but that does not mean we will be competitive. We have spent yes but we are not adding the calibre of players to take us into the top 4. A couple more seasons outside of which will only deepen the crisis.

Concerned

eds reds posted earlier , concerning players to come in, deigo, honda, johnson, rameriez, and falcao,i know but i can dream!! i shouldve said dempsey and defoe. now say what you will, age etc etc but what they would give us is the experience and , most importantly , goals!! hit the ground running!! these two with a cheaper midfild dictator experienced, maybe a loan,(ie deigo, attitude etc) and champions league here we come. then the younger lads, kelly, coates, allen, henderson, carroll, etcetc can carry on from there. just wanting the best for our great club godbless96 steviep62

great site guys.read it everyday. i have supported liverpool eversince i could spell football. on saturday we were humiliated.we cant blame BR for that and you cant blame the lack of spending. when the king was there he was given a good some of money and what did he do. spent 35 mil on carrol, +- 20 mil on henderson, +- 20 mil on downing , +- 25 mil on suarez , 6 mil on enrique , adam +- 12 mil and from those only suarez and enrique have shown the worth of their price tags. there was wasted money and now we stuck with those players. my point is look at the spending other clubs have done. for example RVP 24 mil , 16 mil mata , 30 mil aguero , 20 mil ashley young , van der vaart 11 mil ,p. cisse 9 mill, its very dissapointing. i am a die hard liverpool fan and to see the once great liverpool laughted at hurts.
WORRIED LIVERPOOL FAN

Suarez was 22 mill, Adam was 8 mill and how can you see that 38 mill is a good price for Aguero?

20 Aug 2012 09:42:26
Eds - who looks more likely to join - Walcott or Dempsey or neither? Singred {Ed002's Note - I really don't want to second guess "more likey" between two unrelated targets but if pushed Dempsey.}

20 Aug 2012 09:36:05
Hate to say it but I think the Liverpool job is way out of Rodgers depth and could someone please tell me was Borini playing on Saturday. Average manager buying average players - fact.

Get back under your bridge... One game! Days like that happen in football, even to the best of teams. But being the summer holidays I am guessing you are just a clueless child, so I cannot be to harsh.

Chelsea fans i know laughed at me when we spent 10 million on borini they couldnt believe it and i now see why.

And if we had won 3 nil would he have Been the best manager in the world.
John

Borini played really well, he set up a few sitters for Suarez who cocked up on all of them, he was making good runs as well and has a great touch

He's lost ONE game... get over it!!

To WBA kmon! no disrespect bt if u have to compete u cant be losing to teams like WBA again no offence

hims_red

Gerard had a bad game so is he now an average player?

20 Aug 2012 09:26:53
any targets other than dempsey? do u think we will sign a forward and a winger later this month?

Just wondering (and I know ye cant give me a definitive answer) but who do you reckon we are most likely to sign before the transfer windows shuts.

hi eds reds so sahin has chosen aresnal! cl football rears its head again! we really need to find a player who is wiiling to plat for a cl place , in other words help us qualify!! i would rather have that kind of player than one who jumps on the bandwagon!! a quality wide player(johnson, rameriez) midfield dictator(deigo, honda) striker i would go all out , with the momey from sales , any money from owners club etc, asnd go for falcao!! if andy carroll is going, i would like him to stay, but if he goes , then just go for it!! we need someone to fire us to fourth!! speculate to accumelate!! champions league , money, top players, and most of all the trophy!! come on redmen!! godbless96 steviep62

That must be the rangers chairman r even peter ridsdale posted this crap.Tommy Irish Red

With Gerrard, Lucas, Allen guarented a start, then Hendersn and Shelvey (and currnetly Adam) in the squad maybe Sahin felt a first place was by no means guarenteed.
Add to that the draw of been based in London then CL is not the be all and end all.

Rangers chairman , peter risdale? really? deigo-loan,or honda10mill maybe, johnson or rameriez both maybe 12mill. 12 to 22 mill. so only falcao would be very expensive! so nothing like rfc or lufc!! and a number of fans on here saying the same or similar, players etc,. steviep62

20 Aug 2012 09:15:10
Sigurdson
Sahin
Tello
Allen

Is it safe to say that those were Rogers' first choice targets, if so we can see that he has the right intesions. Had football been the only mitivation then we could have been looking at a cracking line up.
Luis is taking alot if responsibility when it comes to creating chances and scoring them aswell. With a goal scoring mid behind him he should score plenty. Get Stevie behind him and pace either side of them

Think you'll find Sigurdsson was an option at the right price - which BR thought he wasn't worth it at price quoted, hence the reason he bought Allen, better option because he's a better player.

John B

How have you come to the conclusion Tello/Sahin were first choice targets?

20 Aug 2012 09:06:34
Can't believe we have still not thought about getting a player who Plays in the hole as I think Gerard gets in the team far too easily and is a real risk to play day in day out as injury is catching him all the time..any news on interest in sessegnon or dembele because I'm sure if we had signed sigurdsson he would have played that position?

Kagawa would have been ideal for this position young hungry and good enough to challenge stevie for a starting berth

We had meireles who was doing pretty well there untilkenny soldhim for charlie adam

Dont you just love this time of the year? Transfers, setbacks, whingeing supporters, optimistic supporters, everyone saying that they are in the know etc etc.

Saw headline saying that Fergie is determined to take back 'their' title, couldnt help but smile. He really thinks that its 'their' title? united may win it again as they have bought well, but their is still fundamental flaws with their teaam. Reliant on too many overage players like Giggs and Scholes is not a healthy position to be in.

Who knows they may win something this season unlike last season when they won zero, nothing, nil, nein, zilch, nowt.

We have reasons to feel optimistic even though realistically, the team is still not quite at its optimum level. I have loved Gerard over the years but maybe, just maybe its time for him to start taking a backseat and let the young guns take over. Weve got Sterling, Suso, Shelvey, Coates, Robinson, kelly, flanno, coady, morgan plus many other great young stars in the making thanks to Rodolfo and his team.

Weve got a brilliant young manager who wants to play the correct liverpool way, we called it pass and move in our day, now they call it tika taka.

I see some wonderful players like Suarez, Borini, Allen, Assaeidi, Lucas, Agger, Skyrtl, Johnson plus a few more coming Im sure.

Yes, its not perfect just at the moment, but the blueprint is there, we have some great players, and all it needs is a little more time and help from the supporters.

Do not underestimate the job that Kenny and Steve Clarke did in steadying our faltering ship, make no bones about it we were in serious trouble when Kenny took over 18 months ago.

What happens over the coming weeks with all the big games we have will help define just how much progress we have really made, but for me personally, if we beat United and Chelski and draw with City and Arsenal, I for one will be happy

ps to miss out on a reserve team player who couldnt get in the first team at Real Madrid gives me absolutely no cause for concern. I would have like Sahin to come as he is a good player, but its his loss if he doesnt come to LFC .....sitting on the bench at Arsenal is hardly fun now is it ?

Tel 1949

Really? If you get 1 point in total from City, United, and Arsenal you should be more than happy.
United will finish 20 points ahead of LFC this season, so they have more right to call it 'their' title.
(p.s i'm not a united fan, but thought i had to comment on this deluded view).

Sorry pal, but NO ONE has the right to call it 'their' title before a ball has been kicked. they have only just won the title by ONE more than Liverpool, and that was the luckiest title they will ever win !
Do Liverpool call it 'our European Cup', despite the fact that we do own it because we won it 5 times ?
United won NOTHING last season and there is no reason why they dont have a similar season in 2012. The team is full of ageing and at best'average' players. they no more deserve to call it 'their' title , any more than the other teams in the prem.

We shall see what we shall see as the season unfolds, but to go into a new campaign expecting to take 'their' title back is, I am afraid the height of arrogance and could just be the start of the decline of any club who thinks this way.

ps next time you respond have the b ottle to put your name against your post

Tel 1949

Tel 1949 must be wearing his rose tinted glasses, sat looking out of his rose tinted windows.

'Reliant on too many overage players like Giggs and Scholes is not a healthy position to be in' - you forgot to mention Rooney, RVP, Kagawa, Welbeck, Hernandez, Vidic, Smalling, Jones, Cleverley plus our youth players.

I'm not going to slate Liverpool as I do think you lot are better than the WBA performance. I just can't decide whether Tel 1949 is the most optimistic poster in the world or simply requires his medication to be 'tweaked'.

RedDevil666

My dear chap, let me remind you that RVP is 29 years old! Vidic is no spring chicken either. To even consider Jones to be worthy of a first team place let alone a real class player actually beggars belief.

My optimism is born out of winning 18 league titles, 5 European cups and countless othe competitions, like the one we won last year.

It happens to all great teams and Im afraid United are now a spent force. Panic buying of a 29 year old who has only had ONE good year in 7 smacks of desperation from old bacon face.

ps the medicine is working fine now, thanks for enquiring...nurse more cocoa ...I want MY cocoa back....

Tel 1949

Have the bottle to put my name on a post? Why?
Man Utd may be on the decline with City the dominant force now, however in the premier league they have won more than they have lost. I was merely saying they have more right to call the premier league title 'their title'.
Not exactly sure why a Liverpool fan is specultaing on Man Utd's decline, as LFC have been in decline for years. They should be more worried about teams around them (Fulham, Swansea, Villa, etc).
If Man Utd were to steadily decline for the next few years, it would still take them about 3 years to reach the level LFC are now.

and just to keep you happy........Col

I agree Tel that Jones is not an automatic first teamer when the entire squad is fit, but lets be honest he'd go straight into Liverpool's first team.

I believe what really smacks of desperation are your comments on this page. I doubt very many Liverpool supporters would agree with your posts.

Now it's looking like the Sahin loan will not happen do you think it will push the owners into buying a player of a similar standard? Could mean a reasonably big money signing? {Ed002's Note - Any large amount of money spent will depend on the income from sales.}

Liverpool played well, dominated teams and created heaps of chances in the first half of last season. That was with Adam at the heart of the team. Lucas brokes play up and Adam spread the ball well.

Lucas got injured and Adam was dropped (in my view unfairly)when gerrard returned. Gerrard then played well on a 1 in 5 ratio. He is immune to criticism as he is Mr Liverpool. Adams first half of the season was vastly superior to gerrard's.

I think Adam has a poor tackle. Similar to scholes and Lucas for his first few seasons with Liverpool. His distribution of the ball at times reminded me of Alonso. He gives the ball away sometimes but no more than Lucas or gerrard.

I think fans jump on a band wagon and then a party line develops.

Liverpools big problem last year was the lack of a decent finisher. As we don't have CL football I don't think we will be able to buy a ready made striker but need to unearth a gem. That is a risky business an makes it more difficult for Liverpool to buy success like united, arsenal, Chelsea or city.

Perhaps if Liverpool fans stick with getting behind their mostly mediocre players they may have a chance of making a jump to becoming top quality. With the current critical clinate, that I see from the stands in my season ticket seat, liverpools 12 th man seems to have been lost.

Beulah {Ed002's Note -

Adam is to slow for the modern Premier League game, and for someone on 45K a week he should be able to put a better challenge in. He is now where near a alonso. Alonso was clever, adam just loves a long cross ball thats speculative!

When you sign average players you get rubbish results. To blame the ref is the cowards way out i would rather have 2 world class players then 5 average ones. Rodgers looks out of his depth this is a results business i reckon even Avram Grant would have got the team to play better then he did.
You could count the ammount of times Borini touched the ball on one hand. West brom should have scored 4 but long missed the pen. I wanted Van Gaal but we got a manager who had one good season.

I wanted van gaal also

tom1975

Even though the ref was a shocker at WBA, we cheer when things go for us and complain when they dont just like any other group of supporters, its not new its just sheer frustration after the feel good factor and high expectation we had before the game, if we had won the game, nobody would care about the penalties or the sending off.

I also would like 2 more world class players buts lets be honest here, how are ayre and rogers supposed to convince them to come to anfield at this time, firstly we have already stated we dont have much money to spend and that we are working on a tight budget, this isnt likely to instill them with confidence to asume that we will be challenging at the top of the table anytime soon.

Secondly looking at the way alot of our fans treat some of our new signings i.e hendo, adam and now assiadi they might just feel its a thankless task, they get slated before they arrive, they get slated if they dont have a great day every day, how many of you would perform at your best when you realise your not wanted, your not welcome, your a dissapointment to your peers and colleagues and all of this before you even arrive for your first day at work! Disgraceful behaviour imo

LFC has underachieved in the past 3 seasons, the stars of today arnt interested in what we achieved when most of them were running around in nappies playing with lego some 20 years ago, ayre and rogers have to sell LFC to these "star" players on the vision of what we want to become in the future, but we all know that players will look at what we have actually done in the past few seasons and base thier opinions and the success of thier future careers on that, can we honestly say that we will be thier best bet? that we will be challenging for the league? that we expect to progress to quarter/semi finals in most competitions? well we cant, i dont like it either but i accept that for the time being this is a reality we will just have to live with.

Carra needs a coaching role for his service to the club but i dont think hes up to it anymore, Stevie should be limited to 45 mins per game so he can give it a 100% without having to save his energy for a whole game, but to make this his last season, blood the youngsters coming through for the other 45 mins, they wont get epl experience if they dont play in the epl !

just my thoughts,
Syrio

I ask again. Do you know if it's true that there's a clause in Carroll's sale to us, that we have to pay Newcastle 25% of the next sale, our the profit from it? {Ed002's Note - There will not be a profit from the sale of Carroll.}

Heh imagine having a 25% sell on clause (not profit) means you scousers could send them a KFC big bucket to cover it

Anybody who thinks Joe Allen had a poor game on the weekend needs to grow a brain. If you have any clue about what makes a good footballer, let alone a good midfielder, you'd see he had a wonderful game. It's not FIFA, you can't play a through-ball every time you touch it, it's not realistic to score every time you get the ball. Otherwise with 45 minute halves, instead of the 4-minute FIFA12 halves, scorelines would be like rugby scores.

Grow a brain, then you'll get a clue!

Red7.

Agreed Allen best on the pitch by miles for us, except pepe.

But cazorla played a through ball everytime he got it! This is why we have fallen behind.. What good is it jus passing sideways? Goals win matches. None of our players even try from long range. Also i hate it when fans dont want to sign someone because of their attitude. We areng in a position to be fussy about quality players . Other teams dont care and they arr successful. Look at man city and balotelli.

20 Aug 2012 08:30:16
I think it's vital we get Dempsey in, he's one of those players that you just know will score regularly especially against lesser teams which bizarrely we seem to struggle with. If we lose sahin it will be a shame but not a huge loss we have plenty in that position we need to find another forward and another winger in my opinion. I hope for a real push for players before Thursday.

20 Aug 2012 08:30:11
I agree as last post - let's chill a bit.

However, just a point - everybody saying we need a goalscorer, I seem to remember Kenny spent 35m on getting one, although injured when bought, and now 18 months on, he still, in all honesty he hasn't really been given a chance ( a good run of games ) to get his confidence back.
I would like all you stats men out there to tell me how many games consecutively has Carroll started, and also how many times has he actually played 90 minutes?
Everybody's favourite manager ( most definitely not mine ) bought a world class striker, and never gave him a consistent run of games ( you may be able to guess who - he was Spanish ), whilst at the same time giving a certain Mr Peter Crouch a run of about 16 ( or more ) starts before he actually scored a goal.
BR is supposedly a great coach, and has said Carroll can be in his plans, well give him a run of games, strikers thrive on confidence, and you don't get confidence being given 10 minutes here and there and being expected to be a saviour when you do get on.
You can bet your life - sell him to another PL side and it will come back and haunt us.
I know it was only one game, but ask John Terry what was his hardest opponent was last year and he'll almost certainly say Andy Carroll at Anfield.

Sit tight AC, I bet there are a few PL managers just sitting and waiting to pick you up for a bargain price at end of window, if you do leave it will be an admission by BR that he isn't as good a coach as we thought, or even he thought he was.

John B

John B, if he does leave it simply means that he doesnt fit the system that BR is trying to impliment.

BrisbaneLFC

Completely agree with this.

I shook my head in disbelief when I saw Carroll about to come on with about 8 minutes to go on Saturday. 3-0 down, down to 10 men and he gets 8 minutes to try and do something. What's the point?

Either Rodgers needs to give him a decent chance, which inevitably means a run of games, or just be honest and say he isn't in his plans and he can leave.

I've been quite vocal in my support for Andy Carroll, and really do believe he'll do well given the chance.
If we were in the Champions League then we might be looking to sell Carroll and buy someone like Cavani, but without the lure, and finances of elite European competition, who are we going to sign that's immediately better than Carroll?

Name me one proven goal scoring centre forward that's available, affordable (fee AND wages) and that actually WANTS to play for Liverpool?

There aren't many around.
We've got a young, determined England no.9 who has stated his desire to stay and fight for his place at Liverpool.

But he needs more than 8 minute cameos.

Joe

20 Aug 2012 08:27:19
Eds, with the Dempsey deal looking less likely and Carroll still odds on to leave, who do you think we are looking at for a forward slot? I assume we still have one out and out striker to bring in? {Ed002's Note - Much will depend on sales.}

20 Aug 2012 08:28:41
Falcao, pato, damiao, cavani or higuain badly needed at lfc any possible? {Ed002's Note - No.}

20 Aug 2012 08:03:25
I have to express my frustration with Steven Gerrard! Lucas should be on the bench and Gerrard needs to drop back into a DM role. What's the point of having Allen, Lucas and a struggling to create any chances Gerrard in the same team? We need more creative players on the field Steven Gerrard plays that holding role so well, time for a reality check. Stevie G can't cut it anymore and the sooner we realise that the better, let's hope we realise that before we lose our first 5 games of the season.

ed dont u think we were physically battered by west brom. Is it not a reason to be worried?

Sanjit. {Ed002's Note - I am not worried.}

Why would ed002 be worried he supports Chelsea. {Ed002's Note - It is one game, nobody should be worried. It is simply mass over-reaction.}

Wat game were u watching sanjit, we dominated till agger got sent off.

Mulumbu and Lukaku were too strong for us...We were physically weaker as compared to WBA...

Red PG

I never said anything about our dominance but physically i think we did struggle. as long as we controlled the game their physical superiority wasnt realised . there's a difference . Anyways it was not a rant but something i think we may miss this season against some teams .

I posted this a couple of weeks ago. Adam Johnson will be going to Sunderland, my source remains the same, an ex-player of Sunderland and Newcastle!
Also, why aren't we learning from what Man united have done for years now, buying proven goal scorers!
We are crying out for a goal scorer, Cavani is still available at the right price. Supporters will say I'm in dream land, but this is the type of player we need to be successfull. Dig deep FSG!

i dont like how rodgers blamed the refs when his team doesnt score a single goal. and if he said expect more losses like that then he doesnt deserve to manage at a top club.

SO you are saying that the ref performance was very good?

He is being realistic you would have to be a knob to think you can rebuild a team and not lose games. He is right we will lose a lot more as we are on a learning curve and new players coming in and thru . YNWA means just that so get behind him ,the team and the owners and together we will walk heads held high again .

Funny how liverpool always have bad refs even though although soft one was a sending off the other was a penalty

You need to remove those rose tinted specs chap

players which will be signing
Dempsey
And they try and get another winger in before deadline day not sure it will be to be honest hope its another good suprise like the assaidi deal
I been told by a ex lfc player that liverpool are working hard on a mega.deal on transfer deadline day Its going to be a suprise like when luis suarez joined, i thought to my self cavani or pato because cavani suarez could give him a good chat and tell him to join us and pato swap for carrol
But he said its most likely to be ramirez

I personally don't think we are getting Adam Johnson, Rodgers is smart enough to know he can get excellent deals done in other countries and not to waste all his money on an overrated english man. Rodgers knows what he is doing. I am sure the english media would have been all over it by now if we were trying to get a deal done for Johnson and I bet you right now, Rodgers is looking for a good deal on a striker, winger and defensive mid to replace Sahin. Transfer windows ending, Rodgers has said he wants his deal sooner rather than laster, So I would expect quite a few deals involving leaving and coming to the club before the man city game arrives. Rodgers does not look that smart at the moment, and his silly comment that we should expect more big defeats well thats just shocking , shanks would have said a 3-0 defeat was a travesty of justice . red mick tag

ED 001 .. This goes out to you... I highly respect your intellect when it comes to liverpool and the mistakes that are going on at the moment in the club, such as play power..

In you opinion, what needs to be done in order to start competing for the top 4? New players to be bought? Which position? And should Gerrard be dropped?

thanks!

M.T {Ed001's Note - I think it is time Gerrard was dropped, he has not played well in far too long, if the great Sir Bob was still in charge, I guarantee he would have sold him by now. With his high wages, it might be time we considered selling him, though I know I will get some people saying you can't sell him just because of who he is. Personally I think he needs to sit on the bench for a bit and Suso needs to be given the chance to get some experience. No good saying he doesn't have it so we can't put him in, put him in and let him learn while playing. When he hits a bad patch, as all kids do, we can put Gerrard back in, or give Shelvey a run there, or even put Suarez there behind a main striker. For me the only real definite buy we need is Dempsey or another goal scorer. Dempsey makes the most sense for me, his age is right for one, he is not going to block Morgan etc from having a future. He scores goals, he is strong, good in the air, can play a number of positions and is a very good player. Other than that, I don't think there is much we need to do bar have patience. The players need to learn the new system, they need to settle in and get to know each other's games. The only real need is to replace any outgoings and use kids to cover injuries. There is no point having a youth academy if they products are not going to be given a chance!}

Agreed with Ed- the kids need some game time. Hoping to see some of them on Thursday at least.

Can't say I disagree completely with the idea of maybe selling SG either, but I don't think we would get many buyers honestly.

90% agree with Ed001. Except Id take the highest offer for Gerrard we can get in this window. Everything else makes sense, have Shelvey, Suso or Henderson in that position. ( As long as the highest offer exceeds £15m :)

Ed01 couldnt agree more when it comes to gerrard saga, he needs to be rested and the club has to be go on, i totally agree wid u on dempsey, we should get a go wid him. the game has to be on performance not history basis. ynwa

redh0t

Best reply i have ever seen from u Ed001, But my only fear is that is really Dempsey such a good player you are making about. I think a lot of clubs would be showing interest and I mean top clubs right now if he is that good. I think another important thing our management needs to consider is players with pace. I used to remember how good we used to play in counter attacks under Rafa with Torres and etc. But right now we are just dog rubbish regarding that. We just waste those opportunities when team pushes to score or equalize when its 1-0 down, If we have people with pace we could just kill the whole game off in one counter attack when small teams do chasing a game.

AJ

Ed001 that is the best break down of the situation Liverpool are in I have ever read. I agree about Dempsey too, if he was on the pitch against West Brom the other day I can guarantee we would have been better. In addition to everything you said about him ed001, he is a leader. When we went down to 10 men he would have got even more stuck in, he would have got in the faces of the opposition, he would have revved our players up and lifted the whole team. For me he is the best possible signing we could make right now. I say pay the 10mil if thats what they want and get him in, we need him.

KiwiRed

What is it with everyone saying, 'oh sterling, Suso, Morgan etc futures will be hindered when they are good enough they'll play, I still don't think theyre ready. We. Red to start thinking in the present for a change and stop relying on the future or it will never come. In the present Dempsey ain't good enough.

Steven should be rested but never sold!!

Great post ed , i agree with what you are saying , apart from selling gerrard , i would use him from the bench , as an impact player ...........andy.

Absolute rubbish... Gerrard was Englands best player in the Euro with a team of average players. This team and probably next year should be built around him. Would Scholes and Giggs have been left out at the same stage of Career absolutely not. Gerrard isnt allowed off days cos he ha-s ruled for years with nothing below an 8 out 10! ridiculous comment for me although I do respect Ed001 on other matters - football hey all about opinions!

Agger going to sign new contract at Lfc.

Sahin looks arsenal bound.

Adam Johnson to Lfc

xabi alonso could be back at anfield but Madrid look to loan out kaka to UTD so they might keep alonso as backup. {Ed001's Note - Alonso is first choice.}

20 Aug 2012 01:41:09
chance Adam could stay now that we have lost out on Sahin, but expect Spearing if an offer of 4m+ comes in.

They both shuld go.

Still waiting for this "exciting signing". Any news or knowledge of who it might be?
Great site love the rumours

Yeh, he's here. It's Joe Allen. Although we conceded 3 goals. Allen was excellent considering his time at the club.

We should all get behind the manager. It's a big job, he needs to be here to see it through and he's not out to make a quick Buck. Rodgers isn't like that. He's not the man everyone wanTed; Rodgers is the man we have, though; so let's support him.
I know he's working hard to raise funds for new players- trying to offload Carroll to West Ham or Newcastle. Rodgers and Hammers/Tyne will be looking to get the deal done before the deadline.
I don't why people doubt the manager.
Forget Sahin. Some say Rodgers FedErrors to the press about us wanting to sign him.
Rodgers of course he (De Courcey, groan) wants to succeed and Rodgers Black start, will soon be forgotten.

Pleeaassseee LFC and Fenway pull off a quick secret coup for two forwards of renouned top quality and cheer us all up

20 Aug 2012 01:06:47
why don't we get kaka in on loan

he is wiser than Sahin so would not be swain by CL football he just wants to be play. this is seen as he has been ok with the idea of going to Milan on season loan provided that he does not loose any earnings.

i know we won't agree to paying 200k pw for him but that does not mean we can't pay Real £4m to bring him in on loan and get them to pay a good size of his wages.

im sure they wouldn't mind getting the bulk of his wage off and using the money we gave for him to come to pay the rest meaning that they don't pay his wages at all. {Ed001's Note - because his legs have gone possibly?}

Were did his legs go?

Because he's over 5ft 6"

As per usual and as is normal there is much discussion upon here re what players can/must buy to become competitive and how much that would cost to do. Consensus and common sense would suggest that at present the players we have currently will struggle to lift us to the levels we all wish the club to be. What concerns me though is the idea that it is a quick fix and it can only be done with big cheques being written to gain the players that are "deemed Liverpool quality". As a club we seem to have lost the ability to sign the players needed before they demand large fees. What has happened to our scouting system. We are being regularly upstaged by teams now who are made of players who cost peanuts compared to the outlay we have made on signatures. Newcastle, swansea, fulham and now WBA are filled with names that were picked up for nominal fees and are now sought after names. Sinclair, tiote, cabaye, ba, cisse and dembele are examples that spring to mind. James Butland was playing for Cheltenham Town till recently and now looks to be commanding a fee of 8 million odd. Why do we not spot these guys? Keegan, clemence, neal and souness were all acquired in that sort of manner when we were in our pomp? Then it was a case of topping up the squad with one big name or so to add the touch of class required to win the big games. It is what united basically have been doing for a while now other than the odd year when they have been usurped and need to lift their game. I know they got lucky with a crop of young players all at once in the 90s that saved them a fortune and that is perhaps how we might need to push on by giving sterling and co a chance. ? Still I can't help comparing our scouting system to Newcastle's and blushing a little. Rafa had it going i guess but surely our ability to spot quality early and not wasting huge amounts on mediocrity is essential now more than ever.
Adu {Ed001's Note - be no point in that, the likes of Keegan, Clemence etc took years to settle in and play to their best. Can you imagine our fans now giving players years? The abuse that got handed out to Lucas, and still is handed out to Adam, Henderson, Downing, Carroll etc says otherwise. Can you imagine the abuse Rush would have taken if he had gone 3 years before scoring a goal for the modern Liverpool? He would have been hounded out of the club after a couple of seasons!}

I think winning titles every year provided quite a big distraction from the form of those players, dont you? Rigjt now we are rubbish and not even in CL so how can we give players 3 years? They nerd to deliver noe

A question 2 any1 who can answer. i live roughly 4hrs from anfield and have never seen a prem match there. only cup matches there and prem away games closer to home.
i have the opportunity 2 take me boys (who out of a family of gooners, i couldnt be more proud they chose daddys team) to a prem match at anfield but my wife is very worried of violance after the game and might force me 2 leave them behind. can any1 asure me and the wife that things are better now?
thanks, jim

You will not have any trouble at or by Anfield after the games, those days are gone I can assure you

Hi Jim,

I went to the Liverpool v United match at Anfield in March 2011.

It was an early kick off to avoid trouble and the United fans were asked to stay behind for 10-15 minutes at the end of the match so the home fans left first.

It was fine and at no time did I ever feel threatened. I am a Liverpool fan though so I can't speak for how the United fans felt but the atmosphere was more "fun banter" than "cracking skulls".

Hope this helps.

Better now ?

I go with my 3 lads to many games and have never met or seen any violence. Those days have long since gone (thankfully). Its a great atmosphere! They'll be hooked the minute they arrive in the city. Reassure your wife and have a great day (and three points!)
Scousehouse Mum

You will have no problems at all jim.

Stop reading the mail and get out abit.

Been going to anfield for nigh on 20 years friend never had any trouble. Paisley's genius

Hi all I just thought its time for me to hold up my hands and apologise for the west brom result. It was, in hindsight, entirely my fault and I am sorry.

I have now removed Suarez, Gerrard and Agger from my fantasy football team and will not select any lfc players for the duration of the season. I had thought the curse had gone but apparently not. Sincere apologies

given that the sahin deal is now dead in the water...and he off to arsenal...(confirmed shortly)

what options are now available to us...?

and are we gonna take a punt on adam johnsen..now that city are prepared to let him go ?

beglins brother

Surely it is time that the owners stepped up to the plate. Why would a player like Sahin choose Liverpool over Arsenal after the WBA debacle. We no ECL football to offer. Extra incentives obviously have to be offered to attract anybody of note at the moment. The owners cannot let this season meander along like lat season and end up being another disaster. All supporters need to push - stop pussy footing around and vent what you are really thinking or you guys will also be part of the problem. You have the attention of thousands of supporters so start using your influence to good effect.

19 Aug 2012 22:17:09
eds, please, is there any news on a pure goal scorer coming? it is a GLARING weakness. I'm not ready to throw myself off of a building yet, but if they don't get someone who can flat out put the ball in to the back of the net, it could be another frustrating season. Thanks for the info and love the site.

19 Aug 2012 20:54:05
What's been bugging me is the lack of striking ability... i really hope we sign another forward, and with Dempsey looking out of the frame, I hope BR has somebody else up his sleeve. Ed's, if you know anything, please enlighten me! I hate being left in the dark! Hopefully there's something going on under wraps, just like the deal for Assaidi.. I would personally love to see someone who can finish like Gamiero, M. Suarez, or Maybe Van Wolfswinkel? I think maybe Gignac would be a great signing, and would be relatively cheap. Great word Ed's! still loving the site, as always! People please feel free to comment and discuss....

AJ

I have decided this evening I would be happy with Emmanuel Adebayor for £5 Million on a 2 year contract . He is definately capable of scoring GOALS for a fair price .

This would help us secure results in the short term . Because , without GOALS the team will simply not win enough games to enjoy a successful season .

TheScarf

Schurrle or Muller please...

Would love to see one more established striker/winger (maybe Martin Harnik or Loic Remy) and then a younger up and comer like Kevin Volland.

We lost..kevin mirallas...
29 goals in 48 appearence....
its quality in any league..
andy caroll will not hit this number after 100 matches..
mirallas was bought by everton for mere 6 mill....

Sebastian leto got 15goals in greece last season and mirallas was topscorer with 20

19 Aug 2012 20:15:12
hey eds
i think we really need a new cam. what happend to the position where sigurdsson was gonna play..we didnt buy him, so surely he is looking to get a new cam..

do u know if we are looking into a new cam? gerrad was shocking yesterday..thanks..good work..

lucas

The only new cam around Anfield is PepeCAM

Assaid Borini Suarez
Allen Suso Lucas

Time to give it a go.

Hi.Eds. Im someone who is normally fully behind what we are doinean to respond to one game. But could we be looking at 0-3 points in 5 games. And if soy, what do you think would happen?

Villa, Higuain, Huntelaar,

We must sign someone of this calibre. Or any other striker thats decent and could be available. (ed 2, apart from dempsey, is there another CF we are realistically linked with? )

We really need one, so suarez and borini can play either side of this cf. Also need a decent back up to the wide guys, i cant see borini playing every game in a row. And well everyone knows my thoughts on Downing.

Guys if you could choose a CF (being realistic!) who would you go for? there the only 3 i can think of who id want.

Benny baller

We should have signed Hunterlaar 5 years ago.

Theses 3 is definetley the type of players we need, but i would even take adeboyer or even owen we just need a goal scorer!!!!

Huntelar...
practically possible...15 mill..he will come through...
villa too old...and higuain wont leave madrid...
i was hoping to get mirallas or matiaz suarez as CF..
damm we lost in both

19 Aug 2012 23:21:58
What is the chance of getting Sahin?

37.36% chance

Exactly....!! i got the same answer

19 Aug 2012 23:21:08
Clint Dempsey and Adam Johnson are two serious targets. Tello and Walcott are a no go. Sahin has unfortunately gone for the Gunners. No out and out striker target, unfortunately. I don't think FSG would fork out the money it takes to sign a star these days anyway, Kenny's dealings must have scared the sh*t out of them. Personally would love Lewandowski but can we even attract these players anymore? Llorente looks like he will go to Juve. We don't pay the high fees or high wages that are required which is ultimately the correct thing to do to ensure the club's stability.

I would really love to see Joe Cole, Jay Spearing and Charlie Adam leave the club. I like Carroll but he will leave if something can be arranged which is likely a deadline deal with Newcastle.

Top 6 this season.
The Gooch.

F##K IT !! I hope Brendan Rodgers brings in Emanuel Adebayor = Athleticism , Pace , Experience and GOALS !! (+ a high wage$) .

I honestly would not mind him coming. Better than not bringing in anyone and finishing midtable again.

Plus excellent greedniness towards money and beautiful attitude...left arsenal for money to city..dumped by city and left to amdrid..dumped by madrid and left to spurs..
now sitting in bench with city to get the remaining money...

Ask yourself this, are you a Liverpool fan? Then why is it we loose 1 game and already BR's head is being called for. Pressure is on him, we are a club covered in history and he alone has got to attempt to reinstall some of that. Last season the King installed belief because we beat some of the big guns this season BR will bring in FOOTBALL! Give him time and we will score and begin to break teams down, these players need time to gel. Big Andy is a role model in himself because he is about the only high priced striker who hasn't winged about his bench position. Against City we will be more stronger because Rodgers will act on his failures and let's give credit to WBA they pressured us and deserved the win. Firs game of the season and LFC fans do there usual cry over spilt milk. Support your team and manager and success will provail.

Without pain there is NO gain

why on earth have we not bought another striker its starting to really piss me off now . that is all i want a top drawer striker.

gee man

B patient so more. its not that easy

Search function?

It was easy mate...
2 strikers....we missed...mirallas..and ramirez...
both should have been here in a 23 mill deal..if we could sell caroll for 15 mil and add another 8 with him

Borini? Is he not a proven striker... but the someone has to pass it to him first

Why are people worried about sahin not a goal scorer not a winger that's what we need

19 Aug 2012 23:06:48
Funny what a 3-0 defeat can do! Before the west brom game, reds all around the world where quietly confident in the new brendan era! We must forget that game, it was a bad day! That's all it was, gera scored a screamer just before half-time, up into that, we were looking strong, and west brom looked like they were tiring, and if luis had his goal scoring boots on, well we would of been saying the league is there to be won, but let's all be realistic , BR has only been in the job a few months, and there's 37 games and a 111 points to be had, the 1st game is always a bit dodgy, refs always start off giving plenty of red cards and penalties! Until it settle's down a bit! I'll be happy as long as we win at home most weeks, we will be in the hunt for a champions league place as this seasons prem will be tough, and we will see all teams beaten each other, that's including city, united, chelsea, spurs, gunners, newcastle and eveton, I mention these teams, as I think including us will be the top 8, not sure what order, but come on people, some saying about br getting sacked, (get real). Start supporting like we use to, win, lose or draw, as long as the players are giving 100%, well we will lose some, because no team will win every game, and every game is worth 3 points no more no less, so let's move on to hearts and then hopelly are 1st 3 points against city, and I honestly think we will win at least 13 games at home this season the minimal that is, we will be there come may, BELIEVE! Y....N....W....A!

We were not confident we were hoping things would be good and we still have hope in our hearts but confidence is some thing else .red mick tag

As much as I love Suarez im afraid he is not the answer as our main striker as his conversion chances to goals is just not good enough.
Suarez would be far more effective supporting a more prolific striker as he trickery would create space and chances for others. I know I am stating the obvious but he seemed to lead the line yesterday and although he created a few chances himself from nothing when we did carve gilt edge chances they were squandered with poor finishing. If Carrol is not the answer (I think we all expect a transfer deadline move to Newcastle) and Borini is too inexperienced then unless we get another striker we will spend the next 4 months talking about how well we played but didnt win.

I love this site, always check out the latest gossip and always look forward to Ed 002 and Macca info.
However, I dont know if i am too long in the tooth (as I can remember the glory days of KK and Rushie) but some of the comments on this site over the past year or two have disgusted me.

People seem to think that as we are Liverpool football club we have the divine right to be the best club in the world and seem to think the owners should spend obscene amounts of money for the best players in the world (by the way just watching Barcelona and one Lionel Messi Just scored a great goal - class, maybe we should put a bid in for 200mil, its only money!). Chelsea have spent nigh on 80 mil on 3 players united just paid 20 odd mill on a 29 year old and Man City just spend for fun, so realistically can we compete and should we expect to compete?

There are countless teams in the football league who haven't got money to spend and they have loyal club loving supporters who travel to away days in all weather and support their team without question knowing that they will never compete with the so called big boys.
A lesson to all the so called Liverpool supporters on this site is to take a lead from the likes of Portsmouth, Rangers and Leeds fans who follow their team through thick and thin. As Brendon Rodgers is saying we are not in a position to demand and expect that we will beat all opposition, we have to earn it and its going to take a long time before we get to any where near where we were before.

Maybe the people who shouted to get rid of Rafa, Kenny may understand what a tough job they had and understand the work and money needed to get us to the top again.

As I mentioned months back supporters are there to "support" and not to pick the team! Maybe if we went back to the way we were in the days of the 70s and 80s where Shanks said we were the best supporters in the world, we could give the team the extra they need to compete with the very best!
We have to take stock right now, the question is, is Brendon the right person to lead us? I believe who ever the manager is we should give him time and most of all the support he needs, time will tell whether he will succeed, in the mean time we must remember who we are and whos footsteps we follow, we are LIVERPOOL we owe it to all the great supporters that followed before to support the team, no matter what and give Brendan Rodgers our total support, have faith and YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE.

Evered

Well said my friend, well said and nicely put. Finally a little sense in a post

Bored of all the manic depressives on here.
Here's a question to change the subject.

Why do team team doctors sit on the bench all game with rubber gloves on?
Has anybody ever worn rubber gloves for 90mins? It makes your hands all wrinkly.
It takes 5 seconds to put on a pair of gloves. Surely it's better to just put on a fresh pair if needed than to sit there on manky seats with pie stains, making your gloves dirty.

Discuss...

MIKEY

That's an interesting point. This one time i wore rubber gloves for an hour and my hands were sweating so badly that I had to wash them. True story.

Sahin going to Arsenal. Too bad, but entirely predictable. They play excellent football and score goals, even if underachieving yearly. I hope we can land Demspey, as he atleast knows how to score a goal. But realistically, we have sold Kuyt, Bellamy, Maxi, and alienated Carroll and Henderson, while signing Borini, Allen and a winger nobody has ever heard of. It will take probably 2 months to get the best out of Lucas again, and the same time to get the team playing BR's style. This season is a stepping stone, nothing more. I really hope we can do some damage in Europa league.

I actually expect it to take 6 - 12 months before Lucas is back to his best! Sad but true Im afraid!

Despite some poor finishing, I was actually amazed at how well Ars new players combined... Makes u wonder.

Carzola is a wonderful buy. He will be fantastic for them. Suarez could be that for us if he was less selfish.
