How good is it that suarez mentioned his love for us fans.i will never forget the way we all cheered for him in melbourne when it was painfully obvious that he didn't want to be there.the love from us fans has now been reciprocated ten fold by suarez.

It looks like Cardiff's owner will be in attendance tomorrow. Would be good if we gave some solidarity to Cardiff supporters and more importantly Malky Mackay. Let us remember the two clowns we had a few years back who bullied, lied and nearly bankrupted our club. Would be a touch of class from us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good idea lad

Agree0 Disagree0

How about we just continue supporting our team?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes AG nail on the head. Support our team. End of. Every single point is vital. Of course, off the field they have our support. But during the game is not the time.

been reading for a few years now, only just registered but come guys why have a go at ed02 the ed is only calling it as it, we all know how things can change so quick in football, ed 02 has never said everthing said is set in stone just how it is at the time and plus u have to have good banter or it will be boring

So Luis Saurez is now on a shed load of money, reportedly 200 thousand pounds a week.

Anyone still think FSG are asset stripping?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez is an asset that's value is going up and up! In my opinion the best player in the world! If he does leave Liverpool I reckon he will be the first 100m pound player! Hopefully he won't though.

I hold my hand up and admit I wanted him out in the summer. I thought 50m was a good price. Haha double that now! His attitude has been top class since the window closed. I was sceptical after how Torres conducted himself when he was denied an out.

Even if he does leave to Madrid he will leave as a legend. He has shown class by his conduct recently. Captain even! If he stays for a few years I reckon he could be the diamond Liverpool build there next great team around. Potentially Liverpool's greatest ever player!

Going to my first premier league match at Anfield tomorrow and have come all the way from New Zealand for it, and I can't wait. However I am very anxious as I have never seen a goal live at any of the away games I have been to. I have seen four 0-0's in a row so I feel like a bad omen. Anyway, I hope Anfield is bouncing after the recent good news.
YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nice one GOD, KIAORA.
You should experience a great atmosphere tmrw at Anfield.
I did the same trip in 1989 to watch the mighty reds. (still one of the best experiences of my life)
Sing ya heart out!

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a sneeking suspicion that you will see goals with the form we are in

Agree0 Disagree0

Like u say away games so u will be fine at home mate, u will love it mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Its's time to change all that buddy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Can you please start going to every arsenal, man city and Chelsea home game please?

Agree0 Disagree0

I am also going to my first Anfield match tomorrow mate - rather excited!

He had some "gaseous" issues with his stomach earlier today, but is fine now.

great news luis, just got in from work and read
the statement.
interesting to read that luis praises the Liverpool
fans and the special bond he has with them but
not one mention of praise for BR or FSG,
read into that what you want, but no doubt I'll get
shouted down.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He said that Brendan Rodgers played a key part in him signing a new deal.

He also revealed that manager Brendan Rodgers played an influential role in persuading him to pledge his immediate future to Liverpool.
"He was very important. When you have confidence with the manager you can try your best, " he said.

Don't know what statement you read mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

In his tv interview he said that BR was an important factor in his decision to sign an extension

Agree0 Disagree0

You always find something Wembley. Always seeking attention and looking for a reaction. It is great news that he has signed a new contract. We know he will be here come february and that is a big boost for our chances of a top four finish. If we do achieve a top four finish he may stay longer. Being a Liverpool supporter you should be happy!

Oh hang on, he didn't say that the world wouldn't end tonight. Got me worried now :-

Ive not posted in a while, but can't stand back and allow the numpties to have a go at ed002. let's get this straight. ed002 has always stated what he knows to be fact, consistently and without any nasty overtones. that's his role on this site guys, and he does it unbiasedly sprinkled with his wacky sense of humour. and I for one love his banter. Just because suarez has signed a new contract, doesn't mean everything that went before this date was incorrect?
Everything ed002 has said in the past has been correct, including all the titbits on luis that he has given us.
Personally i'm right behind him, carry on ed and I wish you a sincere and happy xmas!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What do you mean he/his? I always thought 002 was female? I have to confess to having a bit of a crush on ed 002 after all these years, especially because of all the juicy titbits. I feel a bit confused now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Female? Nahh, Ed002 is definitely a dude.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2013 19:35:51
Love the way Liverpool fans think because he signed a new deal it means he staying! All this contract means is that instead of getting 50m your be getting 80m! didn't bale sign a new 4 yr deal in 2012! Tell me again where is he in 2013. Would love your thoughts on this

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is not going in January. so far i'm happy :)

Agree0 Disagree0

And he will be in anfield in 2013

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Pinky. If Liverpool don't qualify for the CL and then do well in it then nothing will have changed. Suarez will still want out. Shocker!

Agree0 Disagree0

It means he will be here until the summer at least, and I am happy with that. Who knows, if we finish top four and invest maybe he will stay longer. I don't think any Liverpool fan is getting carried away thinking he will be here forever, but we are pleased he will be here come february.

Whats up? Is the atmosphere a bit depressing over there on the United page?

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Pinky, go on and have a word with your mate Sydney.
He was the clairvoyant on Suarez' future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Am a Chelsea fan m8. I was just asking the question because a lot of your fans think because of the new contract they think he be staying for many years! I just wanted to point out that bale signed a new deal in 2012 and went not even a year later and the same with isco at malaga he signed a new deal so malaga could get more money for him! With suarez deal something don't sit right 160k now and 200k the start of next year! That just says to me that it's a tempter to stay another year but many teams across Europe would probably double what your offering! I still think he will go regardless how well u do

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough.
But we've been hearing that for 2 years now and he's still here.
We never got a bean for Steve McManaman, just £9m odd for Michael Owen and had Arsenal trying to take the p in Summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your just pointing out something we already know, I can see him leaving if we don't get into the top 4, but I was dreading this coming window with all the nonsense that goes with it.
At least now that shouldn't happen.

Hi Eds,

Google has failed me so far regarding this question-

Are players allowed to be individually sponsored at the higher levels of English football? I know lower league clubs offer individual player sponsorships, but I was wondering if it happens at the highest leagues in other countries (Italy, Germany, Spain etc.)?

Also, are there any examples of players being contracted to receive a percentage of revenue they drive, such as shirt sales?

Thanks for your time

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - both Ronaldo and Messi have the deal you are referring to. Try googling image rights, that is the term used and should provide you with more info. If not let us know and I will help as best as I can. Though this is more Ed002's area of expertise than mine.}

20 Dec 2013 19:25:23
Is there a release clause is suarez new contract

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think they would of been that concerned about a monetary release cause as it only allows players to talk to another team, the club can still choose to not sell.

But I think there will be a clause as to if we don't qualify for CL then he can go without the club standing in his way.

Here is a question for everybody who is Liverpools best under rated player of all time and out of our current squad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Has to be lucas

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO, Craig Johnston, little Aussie magician, great player.
I remember coming to Anfield with Arsenal in the league cup and he scored against us, terrific little player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Heskey and lucas

Agree0 Disagree0

I always thought Sammy Lee was underrated but I suppose historically the player who really gets overlooked ( apart from by us fans) is Terry Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Steve finnan was really under rated

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not old enough to have seen the glory days, but in recent times, Arbeloa was quite underrated, until he left and from the current squad, perhaps Allen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronnie Whelan all day long, great touch hard as nails and did his job without fuss.

Agree0 Disagree0

Terry Mac was the 1st player to win the pfa and fwa player of the yr in 1980.No way underrated

Agree0 Disagree0

I know he wasn't there for long but Gary McAllister!

Integral to our treble that season and a demon over a dead ball! I slated Houllier when he signed him, but was bitterly disappointed when he left!

Great player and apparently a great guy to boot!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2013 04:42:12
Igor biscan definitely lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Sammy Lee and before spurs I would have said Allen but will go for Aspas

Agree0 Disagree0

Jiminy, I didn't mean he was underrated at the time he played, I always think that he gets forgotten when people talk about great players from the past.
That was my point

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2013 18:08:46
Eds what are you hoping to see happen in the January transfer window at Anfield? Would love to hear your take.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - personally I just want some bite for the centre of midfield and a left back. Buy too much in one go and it can unbalance the team. I am hoping the unrest at Cardiff will see Medel on the market and joining us, but I won't hold my breath on that.}

Ed001,
On this happy occasion today, please don't mention the word 'bite' please.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ooops sorry, I blame the BBC......}

Yeah ed001 you are crazy for this Medel fella I haven't seen much of him hope he's shocking when I watch tomorrow haha

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I hope so too, but so far he has been excellent this season.}

Ed001 that is what I said exactly to my mates just yesterday! Do you see it happening? I mean the owner might be looking to recoup some money seeing as they "over-spent". You must keep us up to date with that one.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware there are no moves afoot to recoup funds just yet. Though there has to be a limit to the funding available I am sure.}

Ed001 last one haha, did we have interest in Medel before Cardiff picked him up? If so hopefully that's a good indicator that BR rates him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - unfortunately, no.}

So hopefully he has a grate game and br notices him but we just have a better game and still get the win

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to admit I've joined the Medel fan club, although I don't think its an option for January - perhaps Summer if Cardiff go down. Been impressed with Wanayama but cost and no need for the saints to sell put that as extremely unlikely. Someone suggested Song on a 6 month loan - that seems sensible although I don't know how likely. I think Summer will be the time for a quality CM depending on CL qualification.

Will everyone get off Ed002's back. The guy is only telling us what he know's.
Suarez agent was looking for a new club FOR HIM.
And he told an international team mate he would win the CL this year with RM.
This is all common knowledge now. But not at the time.
We slag the ed's off when the keep things cryptic and we slag them off they say some thing that's factually correct. Just because Suarez has had a change of heart,
Suarez has had a contract put in front of him that means a near on 80% pay rise (if not more)
RM have said they would not bid for him till the summer. So what's he to do. He can earn £4mill more between now and then by signing a new deal. And come the summer if RM come in with a sizable offer he can still leave.
Keep up the good work ed002. I won't stop looking at your posts, I love them Especially the sarcastic ones!!
Have a great xmas eds and fellow reds.

Delighted with the news, that's put to bed speculation for January at least, can anyone tell me how good/what type of player salah is? I've only seen YouTube clips, is he good enough for Liverpool?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think he is good enough to take us a step up. But I do think he is good enough to get in our team. Personally I think we should be looking at better.

Having said that, a lot will disagree with me on here.

Having been a poster who rallied for the sale of Suarez over the Summer due to his antics, I must hold my hands up and say I'm glad I was wrong - he's been exemplary this season so far, and he is benefiting LFC, which is the most important thing.

Onwards and upwards.

Hope all the posters and Eds have a fantastic Christmas, also a shout out to the Arsenal fans who have been visiting the site with some great conversation, you've been a credit to your club! More than what I can say for the United and Tottenham trolls!

Nice post mate - I too was wanting LS out of the club after the bite, but i'm glad to see he's signed a longer contract, if for no reason other than to fend off other suitors.

I hope he stays for as long as possible, or at least we have a good replacement plan that we can afford if we don't.

Happy Xmas Eds and Reds alike,

Dags,
tbh mate I was kinda thinking the same but with the roles reversed lmao. Don't think I could go through another night like may '89 when Arsenal came to Anfield. My Uncle Alan was an Arsenal steward at the time and we both travelled together with my cousin to watch the match. Needless to say the train journey back wasn't much fun for me lol. Like you I am fond of Arsenal, when I couldn't go to Anfield or Liverpool weren't playing in London I often went to highbury to watch matches. My cousin was a utd fan too so we always had plenty of banter on match days. It's refreshing to have someone like yourself come on here for proper banter mate, well done

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol Simonpw,

To be honest, I was going to mention that match, I remember it like it was yesterday and was probably one of the greatest sporting moments in my life, but I did not want to offend/upset anybody on here lol.

I'm waiting to see the reaction of those anti-FSG/Rodgers posters (you know who you are!) who constantly whine that our owners are skint/unwilling to invest/show no ambition - if Suarez's new contract and bumper pay is not a statement of intent, what is?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Singred buddy although I agree with wht your saying and your posts are always possitive I just got to say its only speculation or if he truly wants to leave its a good ploy to say they offered to double his wages when in reality they may know no matter how much he's offered he could still leave then they can use the well we offered him the money but its far to early to say every1 should repent there anti fsg because they allegedly want to offer him it I'm for waitin to see how Iit all plays out

Agree0 Disagree0

Singred I apologise didn't realise it was official been working away but wow great news got to say I'm suprised I thought he wanted out but its one of the better xmas presents iv had lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I keep seeing FSG, excuse my ignorance, but what is it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Fenway Sports Group

Agree0 Disagree0

Dagenham gunner, FSG is the name of the sports investment company that bought LFC from the previous owners of Hicks & Gillett (terrible owners, but that's another post).

Fenway Sports Group. The big cheeses are John W Henry and Tom Werner.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dagenham, FSG stands for Fenway Sports Group. They are the investors who own Liverpool.

Just finished watching some old highlights of Liverpool games. I don't understand how can a world class player like Torres become worse than a sunday league player in a space of just 3-4 years. And that after playing for one of the best teams in the world with such attacking mids operating behind him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it highlights the importance of non-physical attributes like belief, confidence, team unity, and mental toughness.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right. From the best striker on the planet to an absolute donkey. I wonder if Nando is happy,, he obviously went for the money. I know 1 thing, Having all them medals will mean nothing to Torres, seen as he contributed only as a bit part player. Confidence plus injurys has ruined him, he's nothing without his electric pace and I feel sort of sorry for him when he plays because he's that bad

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2013 18:52:07
I can't really prove it, but I really think things would've been different had he stayed here.

He'd already scored 3 goals in 4 games under Kenny, and without Suarez in the team. Suarez came in and more or less handed the rest of the team at least 10 goals (mostly split between Maxi & Kuyt). Torres would've scored handily with Suarez in the team and his confidence and belief would've been at its best.

Agree0 Disagree0

I find it very sad also just how bad he became, he was such a hero. Suarez has not matched Torres best goal tally in a season yet. He got to be so bad even all the come back Torres rumours have ended these days.

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres + Suarez would of been interesting to see, Something Red. I've always thought Torres last knee injury took away two important elements of his game though- speed and touch. His first touch after the surgery was woeful and doesn't seem to have improved much over the years. Not really sure what happened there but it is somewhat sad to see a player with at one point massive potential simply not fulfill it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Allthough he's won trophys at chelsea i'm sure he'll regret leaving Liverpool the way he did for a long time. could have been a real legend because on his day he was up there with the best. hope suarez doesn't do the same

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres was finished when he had that major knee injury and rushed back for Spain in the World Cup. Lost his pace, bravery, and confidence. It became apparent after 6months of that opening season that he would never get back to origin. I remember comparing how Rooney was doing, as he Broke metatarsal that summer, and I remember begging he never got his form back lol. I was wrong.

Well as a Gunner I was disappointed that we didn't buy Louis but I'm certain it was never going to nor will it ever be that I see him in an Arsenal shirt.

It goes without saying he is by a mile the best player in the Premiership. Some of the stuff he is doing now is sublime.

I appreciate that City are favourites and in reality rightly so but I can see us and yourselves giving them a great run for their money. I don't discount Chelsea either to be fair.

Good luck guys and a great signing today, I am seriously jealous.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2013 15:02:46
WHY a there still persons saying A CONTRACT means nothing?? if tht was so suarez would have been gone in the summer.its upto the club if they want to sell no the player unless there is release clauses which are met but then still that is part of the contract which means something! not very hard is it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2013 15:00:07
ED002

why has suarez amd his agent agreed a new contract if his agent is trying to get him a move? 1.hes signed for the money, possible 2.hes had a release clause installed, but if Liverpool have anything about them this will be at least 90m 3.a combination of both.

either way he's now ours until 2018 and if we don't want him to go he won't be going no matter what him an his agent do, has as been proved in the summer, only way I see him going now is like I said there is a release clause of a mega ammount of moneyAND something like we don't get champions league by the end of next season. so if he was tht intent on leaving he should have known better thn to tie his self to us!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Of the clubs approached the only interest is from two and neither are looking to make an offer before the summer. At that point there was no "offer" on the table. Now there is and he has agreed it.}

Well Ed002 you'll certainly be busy for a few hours.

Is this contract extension good for us Ed? Or is the case that Suarez is happy to except more money until someone comes in for him in the summer?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks ed002 have a smashin chistmas you handsome devil

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - And have a peaceful holiday.}

To be fair to Ed002, I don't remember him once saying that Suarez wouldn't sign a new deal. Ed002 gave his/her own opinion on the matter based on what information he or she had obtained.

It's not right to give someone stick for their opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he was that desperate to leave he wouldn't sign it and it'd give him leverage in the summer. Lose that for an extra 50k a week?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2013 14:56:48
I think there will be a clause in the contract that says if we don't reach CL then he can go with the club not standing in his way. Which in a way I think is good news because I think it means the owners will be making money available in Jan to make sure we secure top 4.

All in all a very good positive day for the club, Well played to everyone involved with the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2013 14:56:20
Ed002 can you explain to me, why every single story about Suarez on the bbc, has at the end of it, the mention on his two bans. EVERY Suarez story without fail. What does biting and racism have to do with signing a new contract? Our press is just awful in this country!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The issue surrounds the threat of a lifetime ban that hangs over him regarding remarks made towards another player and a question asked by a BBC journalist of Liverpool that they have declined to answer. I would not worry about it.}

Ed02. No need to make sly remarks to us every time Suarez gets under your skin. It's about the same as us reminding you every time Torres doesn't score. It's going to happen lots, just get used to it. lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There are no sly remarks - I answered the question that was asked. Why have you suddenly started sending in abusive posts?}

Is this what you were on about regarding "2 international players" a while ago? I think back then, I asked if it was to do with Joe Hart and Ibrahimovic(during the England vs Sweden game).

Also, if it's possible, could you explain the details of this threat a little more clearly please? Was it a team mate or was it during a game and what was the nature of these remarks, were the racist, political etc?

If I'm completely off the ball on this post and it's going all the way back to the Evra issue then don't worry about posting it ^_^

Thanks

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure what you mean about the "two international players". The comment was made to a fellow international who spoke with the press about this. The player has used this approach on a number of occasions. The threat is from the FA as part of the original punishment for the incidents with Evra.}

Can I ask what the question asked by the BBC was, Ed002? Not sure what you're referring to there and am curious, although I understand completely if you'd rather not discuss it further.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The unanswered question was regarding what provision has been included in his contract should the player ever be subject to such a ban.}

That is actually a very good question although I can understand the club not wanting to answer it either. Thanks for the follow-up, Ed002, it's much appreciated.

Do you think he will ever get this lifetime ban Ed002?

Credit to FSG and BR for the whole Suarez drama, they stood their ground when others would probably have let him go.

Fair play to :

1)Brendan - for managing the Suarez situation in the summer
2)FSG - for committing a vast amount of money in wages to Suarez. 200k per week, over 10 million a year!
3) FSG again - for sticking to their guns over the summer where most owners would have got rid of Suarez
4) Ayre - for getting the contract wrapped up quickly and with minimal media.

A Merry Red Christmas to you all.

Captain Fantastic II?

After the last 6 days I may be posting from a state of euphoria with respect to LFC but I have a question.
When Steven Gerrard hangs up his boots, can anyone see Brendan making Suarez captain? He captained the side last Sunday and put in a remarkable performance. I think he had a hand in all 5 goals and also the sending off. Also the team looked inspired. I'm sure not all this is attributable to Suarez, but there is another reason for making him captain. Sometimes managers make a fiery player captain because it makes them act more responsibly. I'm thinking Souness, Keane, Cantona. It could be the making of Suarez as a man. Thoughts anyone?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No offense meant towards agger

but suarez should be given the vice captaincy now

hi ed002 just like your thoughts on the suarez deal
with only last week being touted to other clubs is this to safe guard the price is there a release clause in it strange one or when touted the teams weren't intrested I for one would be over the moon if he was genuine about staying long term its just weird what u think cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no doubt that there will be provisions for him to leave under certain circumstances, and not doubt he will be suitably compensated.}

20 Dec 2013 14:03:22

Ed002 where are you me old mukka. Suarez has just signed a contract! Are his representatives still trying to chase other clubs? LOL.

{Ed002's Note - They were late last week, yes.}

Good luck to them now.

Agree0 Disagree0

They can chase all the clubs they want we won't sell unless its silly money now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Correct me if I'm wrong, but agents are always going to be doing that, because a transfer just increases their pocket size. Of course luis suarez's agent is going to be looking for a transfer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, agents are not always doing that.}

Brilliant news about Suarez. But we all know it just means when he wants out we will get more also a very nice pay raise for him. Like all contracts these days they don't mean a lot, but let's look on it as a positive. Now let's get some quality players in who will be first team players & not just squad members.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed002,

Suarez signing his new deal puts the dampners on your theory of his agents touting him around other clubs and quoting that he will lift the European Cup with Real?

Sorry Ed, I think you go that one wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What did I get wrong? It was not a "theory" that his agents were touting him around. And it was Suarez who told another player that he would win the Champions League with Real Madrid this year. You maybe want to go back and read all of it again before attempting another embarrassing post.}

Absolutely delighted with the Suarez contract extension. Would be even more delighted if it really meant anything - is it just to keep his sale price high for if we do end up selling him, or is it just a pay rise for him? I suppose with a player like him there will always be speculation, but for now people can stop saying that he wants out or doesn't want to be here, or his representatives are hawking him around other clubs etc etc etc. It seems that for the time being anyway he is happy at the club and will be here for a while longer anyway. Just goes to show that even the most well informed get things totally wrong every now and again!

Reges really isn't any better than Lucas. He will give us a back up, and perhaps provide competition Lucas hasn't had since the Mascherano days, but he is not a better player. He's not even much younger. I just don't see the point in it unless Rodgers literally just wants competition. Reges looks good, but please consider the fact he plays in a non competitive league. The Portuguese league is like the Scottish league. Its like an attachment to La Liga in the same way the SPL is like an attachment to the Premier league. All the better players hop the border, and its on par with the Spanish Segunda division. Porto are essentially the Celtic of the league, and Benfica are the Rangers (I know they have fallen). The Premier league is on a different level to the Liga Portuguesa. It'd be like us signing Scott Brown from Celtic. I swear people just forget how weak some leagues are because they sound Exotic. Some players do make the step up, but Reges is no better than Lucas. People need to stop thinking the grass is always greener and we should sign Reges just to freshen up the squad. If we are going to sign a holding midfielder, we should sign someone who is an actual upgrade on Lucas such as; L.Bender, S.Bender, Khedeira, Matuidi, Matic. I know, some of them will be expensive. But if we aren't going to sign better than we already have, then a) don't bother or b) accept he is coming in with a point to prove (as competition) and stop putting the players we already have down.

Reges may come and seriously up his game, but as it stands he is currently not going to come and just walk into the starting eleven. Sick of the Lucas hate though with people on here making out Reges will be so much better than what we have right now. It must just be this new social acceptance that you need to replace something that still works just because its not new. I have just finished my contract on a Samsung Galaxy and my girlfriend turned around to me and said "Why aren't you getting a new phone, that one is old now?". I simply replied "yes but it still works and I can just get a new contract for it that will cost me less money in the long run and I still have a phone just as good as everyone elses, regardless of the fact its 'out of date'."

My point is, don't repalce Lucas because you a bored of him, repalce him if there is genuinely a better option. Otherwise, we may as well just give Lucas a new contract/sim card. I have a back up Nokia in case of emergencies, but it knows its place and was not bought with the promise of first team action.

So Dezy, I'm guessing you have some kind of selective reading disability and missed the part where I said some players make the step up?

I'm not saying there are no exceptions, but Reges does not strike me as an exception. Falcao was scoring 50-60 goals a year whilst he was there, and was clearly the best player in the league. Hulk is another example. Looked incredible in that league, and now he is looking pretty average in Russia. If you want to pick out certain parts of my argument, make up opinions and tie them to me, or attempt to extract misquotes, please can you go play on facebook with the rest of your class?

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - His name is Fernando not Reges, it is like calling Ronaldo by the name of Lima. Falcao scored nothing like "50-60" goals whilst in Portugal. Benfica sit 7th and Porto 11th in the European rankings - somewhat better than Liverpool who have dropped to 30th now. There is no need to bitch about others when you post these inaccurate, xenophobic and biased rambles.}

20 Dec 2013 13:22:26
Ahh, Jim. Join Dezys crew. Why not?

I see you too want to misquote me and make assumptions. Where have I said that all of those you mention are bad players? Or did I say "Some players do make the step up". Ed, I think you need an IQ test integrated as part of the Registration process.

I haven't even said Reges will not make the step up ("Reges may come and seriously up his game"). You are simply making up accusations to try and belittle me, and it's quite frankly childish and pathetic. If you are incapable of even reading my arguement before you make an ill advised comment, please just refrain from getting involved in discussions with me again. I should not have to repeat myself when it is written in a black and white 4 inches up your computer screen. I haven't even said don't sign him! I'm just asknig the posters here to stop talking about him as if he will come in and just walk into the starting line up as if Lucas is absolutely awful.

Just to clarify to any more 'whingers', this post is not about Reges being a bad player. It is about the fact that Lucas is not a bad player, and Reges is not guaranteed to even be better than him. I'm just sick of reading posts writing Lucas off and acting as though Reges is the saviour of our season. Its literally just because he would be new and shiny, and you want to see us spending money (the whingers amongst you, that is).

YNWAdam

20 Dec 2013 13:34:13
I think the name is a bit irrelevant Ed. People regularly call Gerrard 'Stevie', or Suarez 'Luis'.

He may not have scored 50 to-60 goals, but he did score a hell of a lot (pardon my exaggeration, I was just frustrated by the fact that Dezy deliberately misquoted me). With regards to there European rankings, Its not that difficult to rank high when you have virtually no competition to qualify for Europe in your domestic league, resulting in a constant cash flow from European football that can be invested into a team. As well as this, due to less strict transfer regualtions they can include players in there squad whom they 'barely own', or who have been cherry picked from the best accademies in South America. I'm not saying they are bad teams, I'm saying they compete in an easy league. that's not Biased, Xenophobic etc. that's quite literally a fact. If we want to bring up Eufa rankings, where does the Portuguese league rank in the top leagues in Europe? I'm not bitching about anybody Ed, I'm simply defending my post against people who are deliberately trying to start an argument over someting I haven't even written. I am allowed to express the opinion that Lucas and Fernando are on a simialr level without being called out for 'biased rambling'. Every body else is allowed to say Fernando is hands down the better player, when its simply not true, neither can it be proved until he fights it out in a tougher league.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Clearly you didn't grasp the part about the name at all. The Portuguese League ranks fifth of the 54 across Europe. England ranks second - thanks of course to Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. Like Italy and France (who rank below) them, they have one less CL place but the same number of EL places. Scotland rank 24th. Your knowledge of "fact" is simply embarrassing.}

Also surprised you didn't mention lisbon, stats are safe babay

Agree0 Disagree0

Ehrm, did you really compare the the Portuguese league to the SPL? And, well in my opinion anyway Fernando better player than Lucas. He's been so good for Porto this season it's ridiculous. This would be such a major coup for us. My Christmas wish of Fernando-Allen-Coutinho looks close!

I did not start the abuse, but I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here and take it. Even you Editors are allowed to dish it back when you get stick from people. If you take away peoples rights to retaliate, you should also take away their rights to drop insults in the first place. Especially when they are insults regarding something I haven't even said? If you can find one quote where I said Falcao, Ronaldo and Larsson are bad players or even that everyone in those leagues are bad players, I'll back down. But I didn't and therefore will not put up with unjust criticism from people whp refuse to read the whole post, or simply don't understand it. No need to 'give me a break'. I'll just take one because I don't need this abuse right now. Besides, I've been advised to "stick to the stats".

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - People were not able to understand the post Adam because it was brimming over with incorrect statements and ridiculous statements about other leagues.}

Adam, nothing against Lucas but do you think he is good enough for a top European team, or even bpl team. Would he get into the Chelsea of man city teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2013 15:12:38
My comparison to the SPL is due to the fact that two teams dominate. It is not competitive and if the Portuguese league ranks 5th that really suprises me They must rank the leagues purely on how its top teams do in European competition, rather than on its overall quality. I'm done for now anyway. I'm not taking this much stick for defending Lucas against trolls. If people had started their counter argument with "Portugal actually ranks 5th in European leagues" we could have had a mature discussion, but instead I immediately received a torrent of abuse. Don't get me wrong, Portugal produces great talent, and it has some excellent players. But Reges is very unlikely to be truly tested when he plays in the best team in the country, against teams working on shoestring budgets. Daveevad1 my opinion doesn't seem to be of any importance, but yes I do. I think Lucas is in the top 10 players in the world at what he does and will stand by that statement through good and bad form. Anyway, Merry Christmas Eds and reds, I'll come back in January when the kids are back at school.

It seems the common thought is that we need a winger, defensive midfielder and maybe an attacking mid/striker.

So I want to know who you guys would like.

Ideal signings: Mata, Medel, Salah

Realistic signings: Fernando, Salah and at a stretch Pastore on loan.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would like to see a midfielder, winger and striker signed but I just don't see it happening.

As great as the Spurs result was that's not what is going to get us top four, its coming through and getting the result in games we should win like Cardiff at home, for a long time now this is were the players take their foot off the gas making an upset inevitable, just like the Hull game. However this season seems different the only away side to take any points at Anfield has been Southampton and they were the best side that day.
A win against Cardiff and its 6 points already were i'm sure some though 6 points from the last 4 games of the month wouldn't be bad.
The more I watch the games this season the more I think back to that penalty save on the first day, is the success of a season hinged on such things?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, it is definitely dependent on such things. Boy, didn't it give me shivers when everyone raced to Mignolet and hugged him as if we won the title. Truly, the feel good factor started from then on, at least for me.

The weekend performance for me was the best I've seen us play since the Rafa title challenge year. I think reds fans need to stand up and take note of how much progress we have made over the past 18 months. Rodgers has not only brought a style of play to our football, he's brought in a winning mentality to the team. At the start of the season we did seem to labour through games (especially in the second half) but we STILL got the result. Now the team has transformed this winning mentality and now are putting teams to the sword i.e Spurs, Norwich, West Brom, Crystal Palace etc. Admittedly, the defence has had is issues this season, I think mainly due to injuries and the fact that Rodgers still doesn't know his best defensive line up. Now with the rise of Flannagan and the return of Kelly (hopefully with a sustained period without injury) it seems that we beginning to create a depth to our defence which is a major factor in my opinion. The even more positive note from the weekend is that the average age of the team on Sunday was only 24!
With all this in mind, I still think Top 4 should still be our realistic goal for the season - (You simply can't rule out Man City, Arsenal are very strong this season, Chelsea joint second without a functioning striker and without really performing, and also the game at Hull where we were non existent) On the other hand, if Rodgers secures some quality arrivals in January (Winger, CAM) who knows what we can achieve? All that is evident is that we have the best player in the world at the moment, a potent attacking force, young success hungry players and one of the best PL goalkeepers all in the current team. We also can't forget about the prolific Danny Sturridge and the re-invigorated Stevie G to return.

This is is my honest opinion on the current state of affairs at the club and I don't think this is an over/under expectant one. I really can't wait for the Xmas period to begin and I'd like to wish all fellow reds a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

P.S My prediction for Saturday 3-0, Suárez (2) and Coutinho.

Walking in a Rodgers Wonderland

Scoring goals more than many
Singin songs of King Kenny
With Philippe pulling strings
And Studge dancing rings
Walking in a Rodgers Wonderland.

Not too long, we'll conspire,
To sing Ring of Fire
In European grounds,
Where we’ll win more crowns
Walking in a Rodgers Wonderland

So enjoy yer Christmas dinner
Tough turkey for Boas Villa
Don’t choke on yer spuds

While we’re walking in a Rodgers Wonderland, walking in Rodgers Wonderland!
