I know that Andy is getting all the plaudits, at the moment (deservedly so). But I think that Martin Skrtel has been fantastic, in recent weeks. I take that back, Skrtel has been fantastic all season. After watching our games and players so far this season, IMO Skrtel has been our player of the season so far.

I was worried at the start of the season, if Jamie wasn't to play what would happen? I was worried that our organization at the back, wouldn't be as efficient, if Jamie wasn't there. Not only is the organization better, but Skrtel and Agger are better. They seem to have an understanding and compliment each other very well, which bodes well for the future. Martin and Agger also make us a more potent threat at corners. They have both chipped in, with a few goals. Which we've been missing, since big Sami left. Noticed yesterday too, when Agger isn't playing, it's Skrtel who is carrying the ball out of defence and doing it well.

Long post I know on one player but I still don't think Skrtel is getting, the recognition he deserves.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ps. Thought Adam and Downing had good games yesterday too.

Agreed. Just need Hendo to crank his game to the next level and we have a seriously good squad .

Totaly agree mate,
Does this mean we can start hearing a bit of "Teenage mutant ninja Skrtel" coming from the stands every now and again....."Hero in a red shirt, Skrtel power!"

PDUK

He is such a professional - have never heard of any discontent, contract issues etc - he just gets on with the job. Hard as nails too. Passion, strength, ability, young and a team player - perfect fit for LFC - I am glad we have him.

LIVERPRES

Totally agree, skirtle my player of the season.

Ozone

Totally agree Blair mate, I think the partnership is developing into one of the best in the league and providing thy stay fit it bodes well for the future.....-TMac

Good post Blair and Skrtel is one of those players, like a few, that just needed games under his belt to show his quality!

Keith

He had a great match on Sunday. So too did Carra actually. What I like about Carra is he talks all the time to the defence. You could hear his high pitched voice shouting away.
Good stuff.

I like Charlie Adam, he has provided 10 assits this season and is instrumental to our midfield.

However on occasion looks like a drunk Gerrard, i.e. running uneasy with the ball at his feet, lashing out with dodgey challenges and the odd hollywood ball that goes way wrong.

Suarez on occasion (and this actually a compliment) also looks like Yossi Benayoun on steriods, the way manipulates the ball at his feet to dart round players. Yossi did it to great effect but with no where near as much aggression / effectiveness.

Suarez is a unique talent and am proud he wears the liver bird on his chest.

Red Owl

Suarez is incredible in tight spaces.

Kaizer

I've always said he's so unpredictale that most of the time, even he doesn't know what he's going to do, some wild touches on poor luis, but he has that amazing awareness and a general knock for knowing what to do next.

Red7.

I loved watching Suarez win the corner which led to the first og against Brighton. It was the sort of direct, dangerous run that Torres used to make, and with a finish at the end worthy of Torres in his prime, only blocked by a superb effort from the defender. I think his rest will have done him good, what a player

Watching a re-run of yesterday's match on LFC TV. Seeing Luis re-action when the 2nd goal goes in does not look like the re-action off an unhappy man, neither does his re-action to AC's goal or even the players re-action to HIS goal. He clearly is happy at the club and with his team mates and they clearly are happy with him and long may it be! -TMac

I noticed that too TMac mate. That's the most i've seen him celebrate a goal, all season. Things are getting back to normal, after a torrid few months.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I think someone has had a word with him and he may have started to think a bit more about what he is doing. After his penalty was saved and went out of play he wound up like he was about to boot it away but stopped and just took it to the corner

I Don't think he has any reason to be unhappy, his club has backed him through a pretty frustrating time and the fans have made him feel as welcome as ever after the initial shock of the whole handshake malarky. He really didn't do a great deal wrong, he's a very hotheaded person and a very passionate person, and i would personally not have it any other way, it makes for a good footballer.

As for the media, well he's smart enough to know that he shouldn't pay attention to the germs in the media and he also seems to have the strength of character to use all the negativity being aimed at him from the ever-scummier media, to further fuel his intent. Just by watching the way he wears his heart on his sleeve, i find it hard to even think that he could be so fickle as to be put off by a few bumps in the road.

I think the general consensus is that, LFC fans, the manager, the coaching staff all want him to stay. We all know what he brings to the team!

He has made some mistakes but everyone of us has done.

I think if the owners or board members undermine the fans, manager etc. that would be a complete travesty and would never be justified in my opinion.

Yes, football is a business and recent events surrounding the said player are not what is expected from the club, but he apologised. HOWEVER, in this business, to be deemed successful, you need to win football matches and with Luis Suarez in our team, we have a player who can solely do that on his own.

LFC_7

Spot on mate. Despite what has occered, Luis Suarez can do a lot for the image and reputation of LFC by playing great football, scoring great goals and proving his detractors wrong. I hope he stays and helps us into the Top 4.

Liverpool have handed a trial to 17 year old Portsmouth defender Sam Magri, he will most likely play vs Everton reserves on Friday night, if he succeeds we can sign him for a small nominal fee.

The match is 2:00 not in the night

I think its on Tuesday noon.

I think that he's pencilled in to play for the Academy on Friday morning - he is only 17 after all.

A subtle change in the tactical play has been evident since Suarez came back. With Carroll playing well up front, Suarez has been dropping deeper, picking up the ball and running with it. He can then take players on or play quick one two's with other players.

The importance of this is that 4-4-2 is outdated in modern football. This was Kenny's problem when he signed both Carroll and Suarez. By playing both up front against any decent team, the midfield was in danger of being outnumbered and overrun.

I believe this is the answer. Suarez has the intelligence to find the space when coming from deeper and will also keep us more compact in midfield. So, he is doing the dual role, as Rooney plays when with Hernandez. Suarez will also see more of the ball and can still time his runs to get into the box and cause danger there, as it will be harder to pick him up than when he is up front on his own.

I believe that Kenny has had this idea in mind but has been unable to get it going due to injuries, poor form by Carroll and Suarez's suspension. Watch us go when all these players, including Gerrard, all click together. The only pity is that Lucas is not there covering the back four, as our attacking players would have even more confidence to pour forward.

redmersey

I didn't read your whole post before replying mate, i'm only responding to the "4-4-2 is outdated in modern football".

I think we all place too much emphasis on formations, with a pass and move type of play the formation is just something put on a piece of paper for the pre-match television coverage.
Managers like Kenny play with a lot more freedom than a team like stoke or even everton and the like, as the movement of players to receive passes will always result in much less emphasis being placed on positional play.
the only constant in a modern football team will be the 2 centre halves(or 3), fullbacks(get forward more to provide width) and the goalkeeper.

I remember watching a friendly a few years back when Canizares was in charge of Spain, they played england with what was listed as a 4-4-2 formation, and they absolutely fingered England. By having versatile wingers they consolidated and controlled the middle of the park by having wingers who could play wide and also contribute to the pass and move in midfield while the fullbacks provided width.
The players that played in the old fashioned 4-4-2 days are outdated, they just happened to be playing a style of football that allow for freedom. Modern football is modern football, regardless of formation. The reason pass and move football is so effective is because it places much less emphasis on positional play, and allows freedom and versatility.

Sorry 'redmersey' that wasn't so much aimed at you as it was just meant as a tactical rant, i have those moments every now and then.

Red7.

Why didn't you read the whole of redmersey's post before embarking on one of those tactical rants that you have 'every now and then'?

redmersey's post wasn't the longest, and if you're going to pick up on something someone has said, it only shows good manners to at least read every thing he/she has to say.

Ultimately you both made salient points, but the strength of what you had to say is severely diminished by your disregard for your fellow Red.

From What i have heard Barcelona are going to bid £7m and liverpool are looking for around £12m for agger and also liverpool are looking to bring in winger pablo piatti for £7 also if agger leaves sebastian coaess my well break into first team he qualitydefender one for the future hope wee keep agger though ....

£12 for Agger? He's in his prime. That's ridiculous.

Does anyone know where these Agger rumours that he's going to be sold are coming from? I can't see it myself (having no inside info what so ever!). He spent 4 or 5 seasons injured with just about everything, and the club stuck by him. He's had a really good run now, no injuries, and he's finally been able to show what a classy defender he is. For my money, he's one of the best ball playing central defenders in the prem, and we would be mad to let him go, even for £12 million. From what I've heard, he's happy at anfield. Any info anyone? Nick.

Agger is worth at least 15m and will not be leaving!

Its bullsh!t dont bite.

KNEE JERK

Was just checking Aggers LFC stats, hard to believe this is his 7th season at the club, and to date 114 appearences (so suppose that is always the worry).

I know it was a load of s**t, but just to clarify, Agger would even go for more than 15m, quite a bit more, as one of the best centre halves on the planet and being the age he is, he'd fetch well over 20m if he stays fit.

Red7.

Hi all
I think this rumour was started by Aggers Manager in Denmark. He was quoted as saying he belives Agger to be good enough to play for Barcelona, insinuating that he is to good for us and should leave!

Phooey

Didn't we pay £15m for Agger? It would take alot more for us to part with him I'd think.

Agger cost us 6 mil when he joined

We paid £6 million for Agger, at the time our most expensive defender ever.

The Agger rumours are coming from foot-bible http://footy-bible.co.uk/barcelona-keen-on-12m-liverpool-defender - not reliable at all!

Summer ins.

E. Lavezzi. Napoli. 20-25 million.
I. Affelay. Barca. 7-12 million.
R. Soldado. Valencia. 15-25 million.
S. Canales. Madrid. 8-14 million.

Total 50-75 million.

Summer outs.

D. Kuyt. 6-10 million.
A. Aqualani. 5-10 million.
M. Rodriguez. 2-4 million.
J. Cole. 5-8 million.

Various other fringe players 5-10 million.

Total 23-42 million

I know the ins total will be far closer to the maximum figure and the out more the less, before that's pointed out.

I would also have us playing 4 3 3 formation but 4 4 2 also.

4 3 3.

Reina.

Enrique. Agger. Skrtle. Johnson.

Canales. Lucas. Gerrard.

Suarez. Soldado. Lavezzi.

subs.
Gulacsi.
Bellamy.
Kelly.
Coates.
Henderson.
Affelay.
Carroll.

4 4 2.

Reina.

Enrique. Agger. Skrtle. Johnson.

Downing. Adam/Lucas. Gerrard/Henderson. Affelay/Canales.

Saurez/Soldado. Lavezzi/Carroll.

Subs.
Gulacsi.
Kelly.
Bellamy.
Coates
Carroll.
Henderson.
Adam.

If you take into account injuries, suspension and form. The squad would be big enough to challenge for a top three position.

Qualifying for the next seasons Champions league could secure us the four players above. Top four is most important to me than either of the cups.
Jonesred

If you can get 5-8 mill for j Cole. I'll start a petition up to make you chief executive!!

In addition if Agger is sold the Vertoghen would be an excellent replacement.

Jonesred.

And Lavezzi for 20 - 25 million...Fantasy Fooball much...

PR!

I don't think we need Soldado, Carroll is finding form and what we'd need is a back up striker. Lavezzi would replace Downing quite well but I think it would be better if we just concentrate on getting top four for the next few seasons till our youth come through instead of buying Young players that will halt their development.

Know I will prob get slated for this, but why are people rating this Michael ngoo (spelling) I just can't see anything good about him. Am I missing something?

I don't rate him either mate. Think he has rare ocassions where he actually does something good but all I see him being is another Ngog.

6'4'' and still growing and has decent pace for his size. seen a good amount of reserve team and youth team games this season and i think he wont make the grade. on the other hand i really like the look of morgan.

Yea I rate Morgan. We do have a couple of good youngsters there, that Silva looks like he can play. Just from wat I've seen, that's not much really, just dont think much of that ngoo.

I cant believe the scant coverage of our victory yesterday. If the Mancs or Spuds had beaten anyone 6 1 then every pundit and ex player on the planet would have been wheeled out to orgasm over whiskey nose or Arry. The media are a joke with a definite agenda.

Most of the creit was taken away by our team with headlines such as brighton score three (in their own net). The ball wouldnt have found the net on 2 of them wthout gerrard or glen.

They're a joke mate and dont even try and hide the fact ! Oh well lets win things and just piss them off :)

I don't care, i watched the match, I know that we won 6-1, if they media don't want to jump on it then that's their prerogative... No sweat off my left 'un!

All the headlines I read said '3 own goals help Liverpool through'. It's beyond a conspiracy theory now - Old Man Murdoch has his agenda. The best we can do is keep on winning .

20 Feb 2012 19:49:10
Just a thought although probably been discussed before the best crosser of a ball we have is stevie g I think it must be practical to put him wide right to give Carroll the service he needs again yesterday when stevie found himself out wide he delivered the best cross of the game for Andy and although stevie doesn't like playing there I feel he must be made aware it will be beneficial to our team if he plays there. Another couple of reasons would be 1 Henderson struggles out wide and looks much better central and 2 if Lucas picks up where he left off he is first name on the team sheet next season just wondering if anyone feels the same could save us a few bob aswell

Kopman

As much as I love to see Stevie marauding through the centre, I think we would be a real treat with him and Bellars on the wings, and Adam, Hendo and Lucas in the middle. I'd love to see it for one game next season.

Meant to write 'threat' but 'treat' kinda works too

Player of the Year candidates:
Martin Skrtel
Luis Suarez
Jose Enrique

It will definitely be one of these 3.

Hi Guys/Gals, not posted in while, but an avid reader(every day).

Just want to suggest we bombard our owners with a simple e-mail, suggesting..or rather DEMANDING, that we keep our Luis Suarez! I can't quite believe that they would consider moving him on? If they overule us, they should;
1. Be very worried about the fan backlash...
2. Retire the No.7 shirt - Luis is the only LFC player in the last 15 years to justify wearing the iconic number.

Very happy to see lots if positive posts, remember how you felt over the weekend and take that positive thinking into the remainder of the season!

I know a lot of you will have your own opinion on how our owners should deal with Luis .. I just wanted to chuck my 2 pence worth into the mixer..

( Ed01 I know you gave your reasons, ie missing chances, La de da .. but surely you can see his unrivalled potential?( bar Messi ) I think the Ajax fans showed us how special Luis is..ps hope your tooth is sorted, had wisdom teeth out - Nightmare!)

Lee YNWA

I dont like the idea of 'bombarding' the owners with team suggestions. Save the emails for when they are really necessary (like when H&G were in power) - it will have a lot more impact.

cozinoz

No, No, No, No, No!

Just a stab in the dark Lee, but are you around the age of 12? If not can you grow up and forget these stupid, petulant and down right childish ideas? It's moronic actions like these that show Hicks to be right with his internet terrorist remarks and are not the actions of the greatest supporters in the world!

SW81

It was more a call to arms tbf...I just don't like the Eds confidence in their belief re the situation.  As the season edges closer, If we start to get feelers that it might happen. Then we would need to challenge it surely?  Or are most fans in Fergies corner?

Ed?

If we secured UCL qualification do you think we would be able to spend big in the summer transfer market if needed?
Would we have the financial clout to go after the best players?

Winning Streak

{Ed002's Note - Qualifying for the Champions League will I am sure make a difference to the money and players available to the club. However "big" remains a subjective term and don't think it will open up the purse to allow just any player to be bought - there will be practical limits.}

20 Feb 2012 17:45:16

Reading some posts and I think some people are getting carried away.

Yesterday was a good result but Brighton aren't exactly the greatest team in the world. There keeper is absolutely shocking.

We've played well in the cups , but in the league we've been shocking at times.
To have one of the lowest scoring records is no were near good enough.

We played well against the manc teams in the cups , and then play s**te against spuds and the mancs.

What also worries me is the talk of saurez going.
What we should be doing is adding world class players to our team , not getting rid of 1 to buy another.

P.s I don't mean to be doom and gloom and just trying to be realistic.

LAVERS

No Room for realism - We rule the world

Are brighton not the Sunny equal of real madrid?

I live near Brighton. Trust me, it's never sunny there.

Adam

I'd prefer optimism to negativity and pessemism wouldn't you? People on this site are far too cranky usually but now it seems most people are lightening up. Don't complain about it... PLEASE!

BthekingB

Love your posts normally, lavers, but save the realism for the 0-0 draws with Norwich - we're on a high at the moment

Lavers... Mate... Really?... Shocking against the spuds?... The only thing missing from the game was a couple of goals for us... We kept them pinned in their own half for almost the entire game! Can you name another side besides City who have done that to them?

I'd prefer optimism to negativity and pessemism wouldn't you?

No I'd prefer to be realistic about the strength of our squad and the opposiition and to repect good players the opposition have even if I don't like them.

That way the manic highs and lows are avoided.

20 Feb 2012 17:19:24
I think we can be really proud of the boys yesterday, everything seemed as though it was coming together nicely, just in time for a cup final and the run in for fourth.

Stevie was back to his marauding best and I think this really inspired the rest of the lads. Downing actually had a go at his man and I know I would rather attack his opposing full back and lose the ball than cut back and delegate the attack to Enrique or Adam. Luis and Andy were on the same wavelength and Luis' movement coming deep to get the ball combined with how frightened the defence were with Andy's aerial ability gave us real dynamism.

Having watched both Arsenal and Chelsea's games over the weekend, I thought they lacked confidence and togetherness respectively, and as John Barnes rightly said yesterday after the game Liverpool look to have something their top four rivals do not, and that is team spirit, and this will stand us in good stead.

RO YNWA

I hope you're right there were many positives from yesterday that feed nicely into the match on Sunday, team spirit being one of the most imprtant. Hopefully, this result can spur the team to further big game success in the prem.

I for one have not ruled Newcastle out of the running and think that it would be risky to do so, presicley for the reasons the great JB mentiones, as far as dark horses go not everything is straight forward black and white!

C'mon for Sunday for Reds all over the world as well as closer to home!!

Suffolk'n Red

What really impressed me looking on from The Kop were the amazing smiles and genuine team spirit when our goals were scored at The Kop end. Every member of the team except Pepe and Carra ran to praise the goalscorers. Pepe patrols his box and his 'Thou Shalt Not Pass' attitude is there even though no-one else is in the same half. Carra couldn't get that far forward in case he got a nose-bleed so we can excuse those two. Great team performance and coming at the right time. The two ditties about Brighton were priceless and very amusing but can't repeat them here.
Midsred

I would agree with you regarding team spirit. Look at Suarez when anyone scores!!

we cant argue with yesterdays performance or result the whole team performance was superb. One man that did stand out was Downing he was unplayable, and was probably my man of the match.

Skrtel is just an absolute mountain and was quality yesterday as well as all season. Some of gerrards passing was class and suarez just showed why he is so important. Carroll is getting better all the time and a well taken goal, maybe just needs to be a bit stronger sometimes but is playing well at the moment.

But a real tough next round but a game we can certainly win.

We keep marching on with kennys army.

Just wanna say a big well done to Liverpool we played some great football and i think Carrol deserved the ESPN man of the match award he had some hard luck and could of scored 4-5 goals, I felt sorry for Suarez as you could tell his confidence was low i think the booing in the 1st half messed with his head a bit, Kenny as always is a star he will line our trophy cabinet with every trophy possible yet again he IS Definately the right man for the job.

I saw some of the Utd supporter posts last night giving LFC abuse as usual and they really are a bitter lot...Pathetic

You gotta love LFC

i think we need a winger who can also occupy the wing such as callejon.
then we need 2 strikers such as:
lavezzi
soldado
higuian
also a playmaker such as christian eriksen. 3 out of 4 players would cost under £60 million

Under "60" Million. Is that all???

Where did u get the 60 million figure from? Higuain 30-35 million
lavezzi 20-25 million
eriksen 30 million.
More like 80 million.
Indian Buzzer {Ed002's Note - The figure Real MAdrid asked for Higuain was 48M euros. A little over £40M.}

Hey ed, dont u think the 40 million+ fee for higuain is a bit over the top? Gr8 player but wudnt pay a penny more than 30 million, coz he isnt like suarez, who is more versatile n has tricks in his armoury. Higuain is more like torres.
Indian Buzzer {Ed019's Note - Yes, but every team will want to get the most possible for their player}

Albeit against Brighton (a good Championship side but a Championship side none the less) we did finally see an assist by Downing aswell as both Carroll & Suarez getting on the score card. With this in mind, if we manage a good performance and bag another few goals to lift the League Cup on Sunday, I really feel it will be the confidence boosting turning point of our season and we WILL make the push to pick up 4th spot in the league. With Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle showing no more real consistancy than us at the moment, we can & WILL stand out to be the ones to come out on top of this four horse race. I have put my money wear my mouth is and I was not too suprised to find that the bookies did not give me great odds on an LFC cup double and 4th place finish ;)

Kenny's re-building process is beginning to take shape - we are where spuds were 3 - 4 years ago where a certain DC was working bringing in young talent, and now they have a squad that can challenge for the title. I'm confident in another 2 years we will be serious contenders.

We beat brighton, don't get carried away. Still 7th in the league.

Not being funny now i know GIOVANNI DOS SANTOS hasnt shone in the premier league for tottenham but on the other hand he hasnt been given a chance. We need a right winger I would take a gamble on him hes QUICK,POWERFUL,SKILLFUL just like are former target xerdan shaquiri.

could you shine some light on this ed(s) i know he was linked to villareal n sevilla but dont know if he went there?

There was a few great moments and none of them were goals. The first great moment was before the second goal when after being man handled every corner Carroll decides enough is enough and basically runs over two defenders. Another one was what I just read in the paper this morning -

"Andre Villas-Boas insists he will not put Fernando Torres before the good of the Chelsea team"

I know many people will be saying forget him he's not our player but I can't, its not that he left its how he left and with Carroll getting better with every game and Torres not even being able to finish one not on the bench it does make me smug.

Next was Carroll, Suarez and Gerrard all started and the entire universe didn't implode on it's self. Also the reaction to the Suarez goal and how he ran straight to Carroll. -McMenemy

Like the way you thing mate , LFC true and true

Muggitzo

I was gutted when Torres left! and did'nt want to see him score at all! did'nt think that would happen! and do feel sorry for him now! just a little bit mind!

Don't feel sorry for him...he's at a bigger club now, winning trophies, cup finals, great team spirit...er........hang on

just picked up my tickets to the Final nxt weekend :)
& looking forward to it... Predictions

Heart 5-0 to Liverpool.

Head - I think Cardiff may do something and come close............ I hope I'm wrong!

The match will be close. Cardiff did not reach the final by fluke. Underestimating them cud prove costly. Plus i hope kenny plays his best team, which shud have coates instead of carra. Agger shud be rested to get fit 100% for the arsenal game.
Indian Buzzer

I think we'll edge it 2-1
Gerrard to score first, then an equaliser (not sure who tbh, so will just go with Kenny Miller, as he's the only one i can really think of) and then a Craig Bellamy goal on around the 70 minute mark.

4-0 liverpool bellamy first goal

Ye it wont be easy - but will be comoirtable after early rally by cardiff -will play the strongest team - just hold then for 20-25 minutes until they run out of steam and then take over - 3-0

Are we going to score four goals in the last ten minutes - that's when (or if) Bellamy will be coming on.

Is everybody ready for our first home game at Anfield South in nearly 2 decades, I think we should just win both cups this season as well as finish fourth. I know it is not winning the league but that wouldn't be bad for a team in transition.
Scouse_Pride

Anfield south!! someones been watching the tv?? you havent been their in a long long time! its been knocked down re-built and new residents are in, you can come along for a nights stay if you want!!

"Not bad for a team transition", if we finish 4th and win both cups ill be elated, considering where we were when Kenny returned only a year or so ago. Winning both cups would mean a lot for restoring the pride of the club and generating that feel good factor around Anfield.

Achieving 4th puts us back on the map again where we belong and would mean we are back amongst the elite of Europe and nothing and I mean nothing makes me even more proud to be a Liverpool fan than those European nights at home in the Champions League. Those Tuesday or Wednesday nights when you see Gerrard leading us out to the Champions League song in the background is something else and for sheer atmosphere in these particular nights we are unrivalled. In addition I would also add that finishing 4th would make our task in attracting Europe's top players a little easier.

If someone asked me, which would you choose out of;

1) winning both cups and missing out on 4th spot.

or

2) Winning one cup and getting 4th spot

I would defiantly chose the latter in securing champions league and one cup. Lets hope none of these are an option and we win both the F.A cup and Carling Cup and get that converted last champions league place.

LFC4LIFE

It would b almost lyk a treble if we wer 2 win the fa carling and get a 4th spot. I wudnt mind tho if we got both cups and came 5th, the only problem wud be that we probably wudnt attract world class players.

Ed/Macca I know the summer is a long way off but still with Suarez potentially sold who do you think we may consider as a replacement. Sure it has to be a high calibre striker but do you have any clue if we have enquired about someone specific. Even if you havent share your opinion on this matter. Thx in advance and YNWA. {Ed002's Note - It is too far away right now to say and much will depend on Champions League qualification.}

Hi Ed's, is it too far away to tell if Suarez will leave? What if the club secures CL qualification? Will that increase the chances of him staying?

LFC_7 {Ed002's Note - This has been addressed at length already.}

Not to take anything away from the brighton match, but they scored more goals than us. Ha!

They didn't score more than us - we scored SIX. Three may have been own goals but they all went into the Brighton net, the first two after good work by Suarez and Johnson and then by Gerrard, the third was a genuine own goal but still thoroughly deserved. What wasn't deserved was the booing of Suarez by the Brighton supporters. There was absolutely no reason for them to do it. They should actually have been delighted to have the opportunity to see their team play at a great ground against great players. It might be a long time before they have another such chance - at least I certainly hope so.
Dutchmal

Have a spliff Dutchmal. relax.

I don't know what a spliff is but I do know what an person is (nameless as well) and that's you. A lot of us try to put some-thing intelligent and constructive on this site and then a buffoon like you come along with nothing to post but ignorance and stupidity. You may not agree with everything we say and that is your right. Put down your side of the story and SIGN it.
Dutchmal

Yeah i didnt get that either, why the hell wer they booing him, he's better than any player they hav ever had and ever will

LOL, a spliff is one of those 'Dutch cigarettes' if you catch my drift!

Don't let the namers get to you Dutchmal mate, they ain't worth the time.

davethebutcher

Hi davethebutcher - you're quite right - they're not worth the time. However, to the one who makes a comment about Germanic - don't ever say that to a DUTCHman - they hate the Germans more than we do! We should actually call him 'Marie Antoinette' - the intelligent among you will know why.

For me we only need four to five players to be definite fourth place minimum next season. Preferably for me they would be .

R. Soldado. Valencia.
E. Lavezzi. Napoli.
I. Affelay. Barca.
S. Canales. Madrid. ( or Marin ).
J. Vertonghen. Ajax. (if we lose Agger, which I hope we don't).

Our attack would certainly have no problem scoring.

Jonesred

What kind of formation would you be playing when you have affelay canales/marin downing suarez gerrard kuyt carroll bellamy all going for 3-4 positions. if you could find a way to keep them all happy and afford to keep them all on there wages as well then you would be a miracle worker

GMN

Firstly I don't expect Kuyt to be there next season.
Downing would be on the left, with Suarez up front (if he's still there come summer).

For me Bellamy has bern brilliant this season, but isn't getting any younger and, his knees arnt getting any better either.
Bellamy would be a squad player next season.

So basically I'm coming from the angle of a strike force of
Carroll.
Soldado.
Suarez.
and Lavezzi (with one on the bench).

Downing left. Depending on formation.
Gerrard and Lucas/Henderson depending on form.
Affelay/Canales right side/wing depending on your formation.
If we were lucky enough to sign the players I listed, then I would prefer us to adopt a 433 formation.
Obviously at times you would also employ a 442 formation when needed.

Vertonghen as I did mention was if Agger left which I wouldn't want to happen.

Vertonghen is a great centre half who is still young. That's why I chose him in the event that Agger was sold.

Jonesred

Wud rather have hummels than vertongen, who is injury prone, IF agger leaves, which is highly unlikely.
Indian Buzzer

Danny Agger is a Red through and through! he wont be goin anywhere!

He's covered imn unsightly black tatoo's there is no red

I'd rather spend the money on keeping Agger than buying his replacement!

Lol thanks for backing me up KB mate. At least that proves im not spewing random rubbish. We've been outsung by most teams this season at anfield as far as i've seen. Please, the next time you go to anfield stand up and scream for our fans to get off their asses and put in a lil effort and blow a vuvuzela or something just to wake them up lol.

Oh one more thing
I love ESPN
Finally found a channel that doesn't take anything away from a great preformance from the reds!
Unlike Sky Sports and their biased comments

Just Because you hear something you don't agree with Doesn't mean it's Biased!!

And just because you read something you dont agree with doesn,t mean you have to make pointless comments typical manc

And just because someone says something you don't agree with doesn't mean their a "MANC" you narrow minded Fool.
You wonder why were not very popular at the moment.

Again another pointless comment you didnt need to make but oh well if it keeps you happy small things and all that

Hi Everyone
Just like to say a well done to our reds for yesturdays efforts!
I think Suarez was sneeky and Carrol was fisty it asked too many different questions of the brighton defence and that is Kenny's plan for the future
I would not go so far as to say downing was great but he did put the effort in and actually tried to beat a fullback a couple of times
The rest were supurb! Good to see a great preformace from Cara too

Positively Red

I thought Downing had a great game, i know people will say it's because it was against Brighton, but we finally saw him playing with confidence. When he's confident he gets onto that extra yard of pace to beat a defender and whip in the ball, great distribution by Adam helped his game too.

Red7.

That 1-2 between suarez and downing was gr8.

20 Feb 2012 11:12:31
Job well done yesterday but we as supporters need to lift our game a bit as very quiet. Getting very excited for Sunday with stevie Suarez and Carroll hopefully playing together again as they looked very promising. Can anyone tell me which pubs around wembley the red army will be filling and any directions to them if possible please!

I wouldnt like to be a defender up against Suarez Bellamy and Gerrard

Then big Andy comes on just when you're all getting tired!

I wudnt want to be a forward against skrtel and agger. Theyre the tatooinators.

Do any of the eds know when we will be playing our league game against everton surely the rumour about us playing it in june is not right.

Scouse pie {Ed002's Note - It has not been rescheduled yet but it will not be in June. The QPR game will also need to be rescheduled and I guess the tail end of March or the latter half of April will be most likely.}

On behalf of all Reds, I just wanted to pass on our thanks to Ed001 for running on at the end there.
My missus was in the Lower Centenary and managed to fire off a picture on her Iphone.
We later looked at the resulting pic and, when magnified 100 x times, you can clearly (well, almost) see the "Liverpool Rumours" tattoo on his youknowwhat !
Great piece of promotion for the owld website ed.
Mind you, when I said to the missus that's our Ed001, she replied "you mean Ed001 inch" !
Lol.
What can you say ?

Yesterday i got called a ''computer clown'' for simply stating a fact. Our home support is dreadful at times. Sorry for not jumping on my jet plane and flying 1000's of miles for making it to the game Derek. The place sounds like Highbury when we play the smaller teams. I think most would agree if they were fortunate enough to make a game they'd be singing their hearts out for 90 minutes nonstop. I know i would. And we watch the game on tv's here, not a pc. Supersport is awesome.
CAPETOWN,SOUTHAFRICAred

I was at the match mate, and it was very quiet from our lot.
The Brighton fans obviously came to have a good time and sang for 70 odd minutes (until they got stuffed). It was so quiet that, at one point, they were singing "Your support is faaacking she*p".
Lol.
It's like Liverpool fans, with all that experience of many top games, venues, etc, can't be apsed much with games like that.
The Real KB

Ps, there was no Liverpool fans booing Luis Suarez !
His name got the biggest cheer as the team was being announced before the game.
The Real KB

Does anyone know what the 12th man is lol

Pps, I wouldn't mind us getting slagged off for not singing much if we were 6-1 up every week. Lol.
The Real KB

The twelfth man is a pub just outside Anfield if thats what your asking

If the 12th man had been there we'd be looking at a rugby score. At least the stadium was full unlike other teams in the cup this season.

Big D

Of course you are entitled to your opinion but dont criticise those of us who do support our team in person,we have some of the best support in the world and have on many occasions produced amazing atmospheres, just like the team we may have our off days. There are too many people who come on here with ill informed comments about support that really wind me up,probably who have never even attended a Liverpool game who always say they would sing their hearts out if they were there but the reality is they probably never will be.
The beating heart of the home and away support is still scousers whether or not they still live in Liverpool or not we will always be there come what may and dont need the sky fans,pc fans or whatever foreign channel fans to criticise from afar,by all means call yourself fans but do not have the cheek to moan about those of us who actually do what you do not do and that is ATTEND AND SUPPORT.
Derek

The 12th man usually refers to the supporters backing their team on the pitch.

There is a Cd out also called the 12th man , with all the song on it, witch some of the songs were recorded made in the pub called the 12th man , i have 1 you should get 1 in JFT shop across the Rd from Anfield

20 Feb 2012 04:37:29
u know, i think luis's 8 match ban have actually helped us. before the 8 match ban, (most of u will disagree) i feel as though we depended on suarez too much, we also had no gerrard that time. he started everything, and finished everything (badly as well).

during the ban, i feel the team sort learn to play with good teamwork. without suarez. and it worked quite well. then when suarez comes in back, it continues. every single player gets involved, and teamwork is incredible. i think the ban has actually helped us. with the form of other team right now, i think top four and 2 cups is a real possibility.

Kaizer

2 cups and 4th is still possible but we have to remember if we don't pull it off that we actually had something to play for. This will soon be forgotten by the usuall suspects.

Big D

Totally agree kaizer, plus he played in the copa america and the ban must of helped him rest.

Why do you guys INSIST on having a scapegoat? Downing played really really well. Put some good balls in. Was always in space, defender never knew what to do and got a very good assist. Lay off the guys and start supporting the team! We won 6 bloody 1

Watched the match in Scallywags, downtown Toronto today with the LFC supporters club and what a match!!
Had a great time with the gang and look forward to plenty more!

Thought Downing was much improved today and looked a real threat. Luis and Andy were worth their goals and Charlie was quietly effective. Good to see Carra get a run out.

Come on the Redmen!

Absolutely faaaaantastic! Carroll was really good ,and yes we had a pr mistake big deal, we and the owners should move on and not sell Suarez, because he creates play breaks defences , simple. He will help pool achieve their goals, yes he made mistakes, but we all deserve second chances especially if this means goals for pool. If he is to be sold well a really darn good replacement is the minimum, champions league football or not.

ED

I fear you are right and Suarez will be moved out in the summer. But surely there must be some concern on the owners part of a fan backlash? Suarez has become a real KOP hero and if he is sold on and then we struggle early stages next year I think the owners would be in for a rough time from the supporters. How will they assure fans that letting him go is in the best interest of the club?

Anfield Tackle {Ed001's Note - because the money would be re-invested.}

After the way kk said to let suarez take penalty,he backs him to the hilt,i think if suarez is sold it wont be because of kenny,i think for next season it would have died down, until we play the scum, jimmybosun,

19 Feb 2012 23:56:18
A question for all the Liverpool fans obsessed with the table at the minute, would you want to swap places with Arsenal?

always a red

I don't understand the question. They have 4 more pts than us, why wouldn't we want to swap places? Confused.

If this includes our cup positions, then no. we're still in both cups n only 4 points below them.

Kaizer

I don't think you're understanding the post guys... he means would you rather be in Arsenal's league position, but be in disarray and really poor form? Or would you rather be in Liverpool's position... below them in the table but coming into some good form, and with a good run in? The question could equally apply to Chelsea. We must be much happier than any of the gooners or the rent boys...

So would we rather be in 4th and playing champions league football, or 7th and carling cup? hmmmmmm
