Quick question for the Eds...

I know it's still early day and there won't be as many signing as last year, but do you know if young english talent (Phillips etc) will take priority over foreign players in the summer? I'm all for developing English players, but surely that's what our youth system is for (with the odd exception, obviously). I'd love to see at least one player with at least a continental reputation. Is De Jong our only prospect at the moment in regards to this?

Eds with 4th spot gone and europe already in the bag surely we could try stirling and suso on the right midfield? I know they are still kids but old red nose fergue bloods his kids from a young age and begore you know it they have 10/15 1st team games under their belt? {Ed001's Note - how many of them really are that young? Usually they are 19 at least, normally they are farmed out on loan for a year or two first. Those that do get early chances will often fail, such as Macheda, because they think they have made it. Patience with them can be a good thing, if it comes too easy it means little.}

Ed001 sorry for the question I'm sure your really busy but its regarding Tello, I see you say we would definatly make a move, but do you know if its quite likely to happen and Barca are prepared to sell? Is he not happy at Barca for some reason or is jusy part of contract negotiations? He'd be perfect for us IMO and I'd love us to get him.

Smithy {Ed001's Note - I have no idea, I just know that he was a player that was recommended to the club when we got the Segura and Borrell over. They suggested a few players from Spain for us to go after and/or keep an eye on, Tello is the only name I can remember from it. I only remember his name because my then girlfriend misread it as jello and she got a lot of stick about it. We tried to get him then and we have tried a few times since.}


The boat may now have sailed, with the player in full view to every european club with money , lfc should have got the player when they had the chance! {Ed001's Note - we tried, he had no intention of leaving the best youth academy to join our one that was rebuilding.}

It never ceases to amaze me when fans refer to the Carling Cup as a Mickey Mouse Cup. To my mind this reference should be made to the European Champions' Cup as this is the one with the big ears! The F.A.Cup is open to all member clubs of the Football Association, the Carling Cup is open to all members of the Football League and the European Champions' Cup is open to all CHAMPIONS of the various European Leagues - oh, I'm sorry - it isn't - you only need to be FOURTH is some cases. Arsene Wenger recently boasted that Arsenal had played fifteen consecutive seasons in the Champions ' League - a great achievement. Liverpool's best effort is nine consecutive seasons - the only difference being that during that run you only qualified if you won the National Championship or European Cup (or in some cases both!). The current format of European Competitions is set on elitism and in my opinion the old system was better much more teams being allowed to have success. If UEFA are going to go in for elitism then there should be a proper European League with the top teams from England,Spain,Italy and Germany with perhaps one or two others thrown in. It is going to come so why not sooner than later.

Will Cavani actually move from Napoli. I know he won't come to Liverpool but he does seem to be happy at Napoli has had his chances to force a move. Also, yet again Eden Hazard has been commenting about more teams this week. Do you think that he is just looking for money cause that's not the type of player Liverpool want and that type of player won't stay in the same place very long.

Just want to give a shout out to Lionel Messi. The man is an absolute genius and has scored another hat trick tonight taking his tally to 54 for the season. Messi is without doubt the best player that has ever lived and it's such a privilege to watch such an extraordinary player. God i wish he was a red!

Messi has won many accolades at Barcelona at personal level and as a team, but he has superb players around him, Maradona won 2 serie a titles and a Uefa cup with a lesser Napoli side, I think Careca played in that team, but that was about it, and the 1986 Argentina team that won the world cup with him had legends like Jose Luis Brown and Jorge Valdano. Exactly, even the Barcelona team he won with wasn't as good as the current Barca side, but then who are.

I still believe Christiano Ronaldo is the better player as he has performed excellently in every league he has played. Say what you want about his arrogance and attitude. Messi doesn't perform without Barcelona's midfield

Luis Garcia has been answering questions from Liverpool fans on twitter, he seems a real top bloke. I'll never forget him writing a letter to the club when he left to thank the fans and the club for all they done for him. Some of his goal were unforgettable too, Chelsea and Juventus ring a bell. He could be very frustrating but capable of moments of brilliance.


He was capable of flashes of brilliance that turned games. Top bloke.

Hey everyone, As a fan in the states(Philadelphia,Pa) its obviously difficult but I pay for extra channels on TV so I can watch EVERY game, I don't understand why KK won't give some youngsters some time on the bench? I'd love to see sterling and suso get some minutes in a game we've got won. ed1 i looked through the archives but dosent realy describe how good matt philips is,? is he a natural winger ? how good is he?tanx {Ed003's Note - He is predominately a winger however in the B'pool team the front 3 interact so he pops up as a striker aswell,he has also played wing back on the odd occasion,he is very pacey has a trick or 4, and his final ball is improving very well and he can also finish but as with all young kids( 21 last week) composure can sometimes be missing but saying that this year this has improved fantastically,I'm absolutely gobsmacked he is not at a prem team considering he played through all the England youth teams,personally I would be asking my chief scout how he has been overlooked but that's just my opinion on that matter }

Ed, just wanted your opinion on Suso and why he hasn't played yet and when he might? Everyone's going on about Sterling, Silva, Coady and Morgan but in my opinion he's better than all of them. Quite frankly I'm excited for when he breaks through because I've watched him an awful lot and he reminds me of a blend of David Silva and Kaka at his peak. Future's bright, WNWA {Ed001's Note - he just isn't ready, when he is, then he will get his chance.}


I have watched Suso on many occasions and I rate him but not as much as Sterling or Silva who I believe, apart from maybe Morgan and Wisdom will be the only ones who actually break into the first team. I just don't think he has a fixed position at the moment which is defo hindering his chances of breaking into the team.

I think you'll find it's Moussa Sissoko of Toulouse, who apparently DC is a major fan of.

He is definitely not a defensive midfield player. He plays in an attacking central midfield role similar to Gerrard which is why Damien Commoli said that he could be the perfect replacement.

I can't help but think Carrol would fit in well at Stoke. Have they ever had interest in him that you know of?

if we are looking/need a winger and a striker then surely we are trying to build a fast paced team. Suarez, Bellamy, Maxi, Downing, Gerrard, Glohnson, Enrique, Kelly and Reina (who releases players well) all fit this style of play. Would there be room for Carrol anymore? {Ed001's Note - none that I know of.}

Nay without wingers a game gets too tight. kuyt is a good right midfeilder who gives the rb good cover. downing is here to stay and is a good player. maxi will go but we will replace him with another wide player more likely. a team must have at least 1 good winger.


Me thinks that playing without wingers is like playing the game of chess without rooks. Not a good idea.

To watch the game.

1. Install the browser Google Chrome.

2. Look in the top right (your right) corner and you will see a spanner.

3. Click on the spanner and select 'tools'.

hows it going fellow reds, watched the liverpool stoke game for the second time and although i was impressed the first time with little jay spearing i was even more impressed after watching the wee man even closer. Gerrard and little jay in my opinion worked really well together thier was always one attacking while one protected the back four, It wasn't always Gerrard attacking little jay had his attacking moments to. I know quite a lot of people dont rate spearing but i think you know what your getting from him a good shift everytime.stevie seems to trust him enough to protect the back four while stevie himself attacks and that is were we need our captain in the other teams half rather than ours and if he needs to come back to help out every now and then thats better than him doing the holding mid for 90 mins.

Jay done good i was a little disappointed with Carrol though he is never in the right position and hangs back to much when we need him in the box he is a decent player but his Positional play is dreadfull

He is a good back up for lucas, when lucas is fit he would be my first choice every time


I also think that the Jay/ Stevie partnership works well, certainly until Lucas gets back to full fitness. I do think that some fans are a little hard on him at times. Of course he is nowhere near the finished article as yet, but he has matured and stuck in there and is a committed member of the squad. Who remembers back to Carra and Stevies younger days? They were both sometimes a liability when young, but were helped and covered for by the experience around them. Now I'm not saying he is another midfield genius like Stevie,but he is loyal and hardworking and loves the club...we need players like that in our team as well as the superstars.

1-1. Sterling scored for us under the first 5 mins, brilliant individual effort! We were the better team I feel in the first half, but Arsenal were by far better in the second half. Brad Jones had a very good game for us, while I thought Coady battled hard against Diaby.

Suso was full of tricks, but I was disappointed with Eccleston, he worked hard, but gave away the ball one too many times as well as caught offside.

Sama and Wisdom had a tough day trying to keep the Arsenal forwards at bay, but I thought they just about did enough.

Thanks for the reply ed. I haven't seen much of Ramirez but I would be wary of players from serie a. I have been hurt before....! I would love to see a winger with genuine pace who can beat his man and plant one on Carroll's head. Downing is not that player though. His crossing has been terrible even when he's played on the left. Sorry this is more of a rant than a question.


His crossing hasn't been bad it is the fact that there are always at least 4 opposing players in the box compared to our 1. Look at Newcastle vs Norwich. There was 3 people in the box when Cisse scored and 1 of them was him and 1 was the goalkeeper! That would never happen at a Liverpool game.

Eds I know people ask you who we're interested in but who do you think will sign in the summer. This is what I think.

Luuk De Jong - partner Suarez, put Carroll on loan to foreign team.

Gaston Ramirez - replace Bellamy when he's injured or not fit, he will be good for the future.

Nathan Redmond - very young and a great buy for the future.

Replie to this rumour with your thoughts on who you think will come to Anfield in the Summer.

would love to see some of these young players come through, sterling, coady, sama, adorjan and suso are the stand outs for me, probably 2-5 of these players will make the professional grade, but think there might be some real talent, i dont mind ngoo either, on his day he reminds me of a fast hesky.

No, because to me that shows a lack of commitment. What about next year if we finish 5th for example? He'll be on his bike and we'll have to be looking for more fresh faces, which can't be good for a squad when they're just beginning to get used to each other.

Hey guys. Quick question to the eds. I've noticed Morgan is playing for the U18s and he played in nextgen. Is he not highly rated? Or has he simply not made the step up to reserve team football? Thanks. WelshBoyDave {Ed001's Note - he is just young and we have Adorjan and Eccleston and Ngoo etc competing for the place. With the loan window shutting soon, a few of the players in the team are there as an opportunity for managers to check them out ie Eccleston.}


I hope they weren't scouting Eccleston in today's game against Arsenal Reserves - he was poor. Sterling looked great but lacked support, Samma looked solid in defencce and it was great to see Brad Jones put in a good performance on his birthday.

eds what is going on with Nathan Eccleston? Definitely not good enough for the first team, though he's old enough to be playing first team football. Yet we seem content to just let him rot in the reserves? {Ed001's Note - I am told that the managers watching them game are there with a view to taking him on loan. Well, that is one of the players they are watching.}


Well, the commentator siad it was rochdale and tranmere's boss, watching the game. YNWA {Ed001's Note - I was told there would be 5 or 6 clubs represented today, maybe there are a few scouts there as well.}

im watching liverpool reserves takke on arsenal reserves and commoli is there and i have some questions and hoped you could answer please

1) do u think commoli is there to check up on any one is particular to see if they are ready this season? (sterling, suso, coasdy)

2) why doesnt morgan get played, he seems a good young talent and correct me if im wrong but i thought he went on a really good performance run, is it to do with his attitude?

3) do sterling, suso, coady and jones have pro contracts so they can play for the firsts?

The reserve staff are the ones who will recommend them to the manager, they write reports after each match and also regular reports on their progress in training.
2. Morgan is just young, he is inconsistent and is not able to play in every match, there are a lot of players there competing for a place, Adorjan and Eccleston are currently ahead of him, that's all.

all these players like marko marin and iker muniain being touted about i don't think will fit into our system. we need out and out wingers not attacking mids or inside forwards. for Suarez and Carroll to work we need a 4-4-2, with wingers to support Carroll and space in front of Gerrard to link up with the two.


When Gerrard doesn't play we are badly in need of an attacking midfielder. If Carroll can't learn to link up play with quick balls into feet a la Suarez, Bellamy and Maxi he's going to be spending a lot of next season on the bench too. He wasn't bought as a one trick pony and to be fair that wasn't how he played at Newcastle.

I've read quite a few posts recently (still) slating Andy Carroll with reagards to his laziness. In my opinion, these posts are either from people who haven't actually watched any recent games or have already decided they don't like/want him at our club. In his last 5 games or so I would say his work rate has been excellent. Off the ball he is hassling defenders alot more, and tracking his man the length of the pitch on numerous occassions. He is back in our box winning headers on every corner and free kick the opposition has. Also, he creates alot more space for Suarez to play in just by his presence alone, as Centre halves tend to double up on him. Suarez does alot of running with the ball, but Carroll does alot more of the dirty work than him, but he does not get praised for it.

I would still like to see more movement in the oppositions penalty area from Carroll as on times he can be a bit static, but as far as his general work rate goes I've been more than happy with him recently. A few more goals off him wouldn't go amiss but the signs of improvement are there for all to see.

In a similar way that Heskey used to do all of the donkey work that allowed Owen to play and be the main scorer.
Andy can and does create the space for those playing around him.
Play Suarez up top on his own and he is marked out of the game.
Play Andy beside him and all of a sudden 2 defenders are having to deal with him leaving Suarez a lot more space and a lot less bodies to deal with.
He is also now wining a lot of headers and is even timing his jumps and getting his positioning sorted so we are now winning free kicks off of all the fouls he receives.
On top of that there have been a number of occasions recently where it has been his decisive defensive clearing header.

I've had a couple of little light hearted digs at him in posts lately, but I don't think the lad is lazy.
His general all-round play has improved loads, he links better with Suarez, but and this is a big but (no pun intended) he doesn't really look like he's gonna net us 15-20 goals a season. Not at the minute anyway. I think he'll stay next season by the way but we are crying out for some pace and danger up front to complement Suarez' skill.

Crap signing of a crap player. His flaws have been well documented so, I don't need to repeat them in this post. Obviously, I don't think he is the right guy to call our primary striker so, we are in DESPERATE need of a proven striker (which by the way does not necessarily mean getting the most expensive striker on the market; contrary to popular belief, you don't always get what you pay for). Just watch how our fortunes change if we get a REAL striker.

Carroll has had one very good game (recently against Everton) while wearing a Liverpool uniform...that's it. He may have shown flashes here and there in other games but, on balance, he just does not pull his weight.

More importantly than what you or I think...and watch for this...the first chance LFC get to unload this guy, they will take it. Regardless of the 'official' line from LFC about Carroll, they will not hesitate to dump him if a reasonable offer comes along.

If Carroll is still our main striker next year, I will be shocked and in my opinion, it will be a black eye (moreso) on the judgment of management.

I posted that his work rate has improved greatly and that anybody who is saying he is lazy is wrong, as his stats would back up. My apologies--didn't mean to be so belligerent in my original post...really need to increase the fibre in my diet so, I'm not so grumpy.

You did preface your comments with an 'in my opinion' as opposed to making an outright declaration--that makes a big difference. I guess I'm railing against those posters who make a definitive statement dismissing anyone who dares to criticize the club or the players (usually with the unimaginative claim that we must be Mancs).

It's simple really: if the club is living up to its potential (which may or may not mean they are winning), they deserve praise; if the club is falling short of what it can do, then, I think CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is fair game.

No problems, If i'm being honest i'm probably one of those fans you described that tends to believe in KK/LFC so much that I sometimes make excuses for players and maybe see things that aren't there (still think his work rate has improved greatly BTW). I think that until AC starts scoring regularly, a player of his ilk and style is always going to split opinions. There are definately aspects of his game that he needs to improve on, but I think/hope he will get there. And as soon as the goals start flowing all will be forgiven by everyone.

I'm pretty sure we don't come on your page every game asking if Carroll or Suarez have scored? I'm also pretty sure we havent branded Nando world class on his form this season or the best in the premier league. You have labelled Suarez both of them, you are borderline delusional. The moral of the story - please don't ask questions over Torres when you have them stats to back it up.

3 more points:

1 - The fact we have qualified for the Champions League every season for the last 10 or so years has funded the bid for Torres, along with our sugar daddys money, you have neither unfortunately.

2 - Juan Mata cost virtually the same as Downing and Henderson - you could never have got him because your a mid table team now - again, so unfortunate.

3 - This is an important stat that i really want you to think about. We were bought in 2003, since then we have become a stalwart World Class team who consistently qualifies for the Champs League and goes far. Before then we spent 6-7 seasons winning trophies and challenging at the top of the table. Thats 16 seasons of the most recent history where we have been a top team and you have been a mid table team. Do you really think world class players are going to look at the history you had when they were not even born over the history we've had since theyve been playing football for the last 16 years? Truthfully? In 19 Premier League seasons you have finished 2nd twice, thats it, seriously im not lying. Its getting on 25 years since you last won a trophy guys, please for your own sake realise its over. Gracefully stand aside for the big boys (United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal) to fight it out for the premier league year after year. Henderson, Adam, Downing are not going to win you the premier league.

Chelsea is yet to win a cup Adam, we are however in the semi's of the FA Cup, the quarters of the CL and in a 3 way fight for 3rd and 4th on the table.

Compare that with Carling Cup, semis of FA Cup and 7th on the league with no chance of CL football (again) next year.

I know some of you are a little biased (cough) but in all honesty which would you prefer?

And by answering Carling Cup victory is still a trophy and is better than nothing does really show how far the apple has fallen from the tree.

Also I don't seem to understand why does Melbourne CFC continously bark about us spending 100 million and still being 7th as we recouped major part of it from sales. And as far as I am aware chelsea also have spent close to 120 million while recouping NADA and I don't see them topping the League

also do you think gaston ramirez and luuk de jong are reasonable targets for the summer. Regarding the RB position do you think we need to buy one to replace johnson ? I think we should make Kelly 1st choice and get an Experienced RB on loan from somewhere as it would not hamper the progress of our youngsters as according to me we have decent back-ups in Flanagan and Mc Laughlin {Ed001's Note - Agger is due back at the beginning of next month. Yes. No, I would rather let Kelly make the spot his own.}


I've been very impressed with Kelly getting into the box the last few games ed. Good to see. We need to start getting the goals, spread about the team too, not just moaning at the strikers. Kelly has looked as likely as anyone (more so than Andy Carroll, lol) to get on the scoresheet lately.

Hi fellow reds,

A good result against Stoke on Sunday, following the win against Everton. Hopefully we can keep going at QPR tomorrow.

It wont be easy, QPR are fighting for survival and from what I remember it was never our favourite ground to visit. I am sure we can get a win there & then against Wigan at the weekend! We need 6 points from these 2 games, even if we are to dream of 5th or 6th place let alone 4th.

I would go with the same team, hopefully with Bellamy on the bench this week. We need all our players at the business end of the season, we have some big games still, Newcastle, Chelsea & Villa wont be easy......

Lets give the boys our support again & sing them home. Lets be their 12th man at Loftus Road, they need us as much as we need them.

Ed001: Sadly 'textspeak' as you call it is the way the majority of younger people speak. This is as a result of people like Rio Ferdinand, Defoe and Rooney talking like 12 years and the overriding use of technology to communicate with. I also share your irritation with this dross and yet can't help feeling sorry for those people who think 'yoofspeak' is acceptable to all and who think whatever Rio says on Twitter is anything more than twaddle! {Ed001's Note - I will often just ignore texts because of text speak, people take the hint eventually and stop being so lazy, because that is all it is.}


I agree with Ed001 and would like to see an across-the-board ban on people posting semi-English text drivel from their phones. A lot of people have trouble with spelling, which is a separate problem and not worth making a fuss about on a football forum, but if you can't string together a sentence in plain English then I'm afraid whatever you have to say is probably not worth reading. I'm sure that many of the people who look at this sight just keep scrolling down when they come across something that is written in some sort of unpunctuated code. You're wasting your own time and ours, and actually damaging the precious tool of communication between people. I wouldn't say no to him competing with Downing on the left, as he has potential - but with Kenny - he's bound to play one of them out of position. Sad but true.

He looks lost at City. He's a winger and needs to play as one - he's not an inside forward. Neither is Downing... someone tell Kenny please.

Ed001 u mention that the players that could make the breakthrough next year are adjoran , toni silva and suso. Out of these 3 players which one would seem the most likely. Also surely sterling and morgan have to be close . I know sterling is small etc etc but he will always be that size but look at how well the likes of lennon and moses do . u dont have to be big to succeed in the epl. Morgan i think has that goalscorer instinct that we are lacking at the minute. i would prefer to see the likes of these players given a chance over going out spending millions this summer. surely a few cameos are on the horizon towards the end of the season

That is why so few players who break through at a very young age will tend to play on late in their career. You have to hold them back or they will do irreparable damage. I mentioned the ones I did purely on the basis that they seem to be the closest to physical maturity, well look it when I watch them play anyway.}


Spearo hasn't really broken through since this season, and he is what? 22/23? And in my opinion he has been little short of fantastic, and still plenty left to learn.
You cannot be impatient with these young players, they will get their features when time tells.

Chelsea is yet to win a cup Adam, we are however in the semi's of the FA Cup, the quarters of the CL and in a 3 way fight for 3rd and 4th on the table.

Compare that with Carling Cup, semis of FA Cup and 7th on the league with no chance of CL football (again) next year.

I know some of you are a little biased (cough) but in all honesty which would you prefer?

And by answering Carling Cup victory is still a trophy and is better than nothing does really show how far the apple has fallen from the tree.

You may have beaten some good teams on the run-in but you the two teams you mentioned were also playing CL group stage matches at the time while trying to win the league, Carling Cup was not high on the agenda. Chelsea failed in the latter but I would prefer to be were we are now in CL than have won the Carling Cup. You all think a trophy is better than not winning anything which is fine, I would be the same if Chelsea had not been so dominate over the past decade.

You now linger in 7th closer in points to the bottom team than the top. It could quite easily be claimed that you wasted a large portion of that 100m.

Well you will have to beat Barca and Madrid you win CL so forget that, you aint going to win the league and i doubt you will beat Spurs as they are a far better team this season than you lot.

It is always good though when opposing fans are totally obsessed with us, it shows we must be doing something right, i never go on the Chelsea side as they mean NOTHING to me. How many more times do we need to beat you this season? It gets more complicated when you buy our players, especially those who have just scored against you. You didn't exactly win anything last year did you and all you have done so far this year is get to levels Spurs did last year. We may not be setting the Premiership alight but I think our prospects are much better than yours. We have a pretty good idea of who our manager will be next year. Thank you for your interest in our club. Yes, we've only won the Carling cup, reached the semis but still 7th in the league. Yes Champions League may be out of our reach, but at least we have a positive to look forward to - re-building takes time and we have a young squad(took Fergie almost 5 years to build a proper Championship winning team), whereas your squad is ageing, and of course you are still without a manager. Even then, he's going to rely again on the old guard again.

Enjoy your time now, but I don't foresee you guys winning anything soon in the coming years, not while your pensioners are still running the club (maybe your owner should appoint Terry as the next manager, since he's already assuming the role in place of RBM). Singred

I guess after the failures of Benayoun, Torres, Meireles and nearly 70 million pounds later I'd be angry too, but you really need to take it up with Roman. Remind him that those buys were only part of the 150 million net spent since the start of last season, in which time you still haven't won anything. You can check my maths, but a team who'd just won the League & Cup double + 150 million is so far equal to 5th. A team who were languishing in 12th added 40 million net spent and are now = 7th & a League Cup. I know where I see improvement, and where I don't...

I will start this by saying, get well soon fabrice and get back on the pitch boy, as quickly as you can.
Secondly, would like.to appreciate all the people who are paying for his health and well being. You may think why I am saying this, but.from what I read and get, in todays world of hatred and violence, it is very assuring to see people hoping paying and even crying to.god for some body elses well being.
I live in india , and football here is not followed as passionately as it if followed in britain. But seeing and reading about the events over there, I have come to realise how football unites you all and how passionate you are about the same .
Make no mistake people here are also very passionate,i myself declined a high paying job once as the interviewer was a manc and was brsgging about the same , but reading more about heow the prople have set aside their differences and are supporting the club ,is.really an eye opener.
The reason for saying this is because, for us here in this part of the world , when some one says, a passionate football supporter from england, usually the picture painted is on who is drunk and not in his senses. Ii understand that this is.not correct but other people don't.
And that is why I say, this show of support and solidarity for a lad of some other club / region is well.the best example of human kindness and emotions. This will go a long way in correcting .that image.
Again want to appreciate all the people there, and praying for the lad to get well soon.

I wouldn't get too excited about the supposed Ozil twitter site (@mesut0ezil), I've admittedly only given it a cursory glance but it seems suspicious to me that his english is very poor in some updates ("liverpool kill all stoke 4-0") but he uses very specific english idioms in others ("Santiago bernabeu to be a pressure cooker against CSKA Moscow").
