How long is Enrique out for?

Eds.do u know when countino will be fit and ready for selection ynwa {Ed002's Note - A couple of weeks.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A couple of weeks I was hoping the next match

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 21:07:53
Massively disappointed with the result yesterday but that just goes to show how far we've come, being disappointed with a point away to Newcastle.

I do think it was clear how much we miss Enrique when he's not playing, he's the most direct wide man we have. I'm certain we would have tested them a lot more with him on the pitch! Is he injured?, I never found out.

Also, love Suarez unselfishness up top, top class assist.
is he 100% fit though. He looks abit slower than last season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah but aagainstten men its okay to be unhappy

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 19:32:12
My fellow reds, before we start to complain about yesterday and the fact that we did not break down a 10 man Newcastle, this time last year this was we would have prob lost. We are now becoming a very difficult team to beat and that, in my opinion, is a step forward. With Couts to come back and an already fearsome front line it bodes very well. Sakho and Kolo look like genius signings by B.R., Skertel is playing well, although personally I would prefer Agger, there is a lot to be positive about. My only worry is the R.B./W.B. position as Johnson does not seem to know where he should be on the pitch sometimes and as such can look clueless and exposed. Sorry for such a long post but it is my cherry and want to make last as long as possible.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree Fred, especially about skrtel, I wouldn't have him in the team he is a liability, at fault for the second goal yesterday

Agree0 Disagree0

Skertel has been playing grate sakho and cissico were as bad

Agree0 Disagree0

Da faaq you talking about terfur8.skrtel is our best defender at the moment what games have you been watching
I could easily blame sakho and cissokho also for being at fault

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel was one of our most reliable players yesterday & has been so far this season? For the second goal, Kolo was back tracking & Skrtel decided to go for it? Nothing wrong with that whatsoever, it's just a shame he didn't win it. Actually think it's ridiculous that you's are calling Skrtel a liability, in the long-term maybe so as he's not exactly suited for the type of system we want to play, but for now he's definately doing a good job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel has played very well, our best defender since his return otherwise he wouldn't have kept his place. Strange how some think he is a liability.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sktrel was one of the best defenders yesterday, that tackle on Remy saved us a certain goal and possibly gained us a point.
The second goal was Sakho and Cissokho's fault as they both fell asleep at the back post and let Dummett ghost in.
I personally don't like this 3-5-2 formation as we haven't kept a clean sheet since we started using it. I know it let's Suarez and Sturridge play together up top but we are so open when we lose the ball its embarasing.
The fact that our ball retention is abismal at the moment doesn't help.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2013 15:52:05
Our ball retention ( or lack of) isn't/shouldn't be down to our formation, perhaps if we were playing a narrow and deep 4-5-1 it would, but certainly not in a 3-5-2.
In this formation, retention is A) Key and B) easier, as you have 2 forward men for the ball to stick, and you keep your control over the midfield.
I can't explain why it's not happened mind. Just on paper it should be easier for the ball to stick with more players to aim at.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2013 22:23:44
We need agger to bring the ball out from the back and step into midfield to draw out the opposition midfield. This will create more space.

The three we are playing at the back at the moment try to bring the ball out but are not as composed or have the vision of Agger.

I think it will make a difference to our control of the game when he comes back into the side.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 18:39:24
coutinho - hope he comes back as brilliantly as many on here suggest . personally I thought he had an OK start to the season but drifted out of games after 60 mins. He was terrific last year but as often happens, teams get wise - they mark him tightly and leave a foot in - in my opinion he needs to show he's got the balls for a tough game. He has the talent, no doubt about that - but can he boss a game for 90 mins. The jury is out on that one.

As for Moses - I think he has done pretty well - he's not spent long with us yet and up until yesterdays game I thought he looked the part . really comfortable on the ball and with some experience, I think he may prove to be a valuable player this year.

Last point - before BR was appointed it seemed that one of the other favourites was Martinez . he's started pretty well - so with hindsight who would you rather have, BR or Martinez.?

For me I'm happy with BR - just wish he'd be a wee bit more honest in front of the camera. to say he was " a bit dissapointed" to only get a point yesterday bugs me. at half time playing against 10 there surely is only one winner - dissapointed. ?. I think that is a massive 2 points lost.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Oct 2013 19:52:37
I'm happy with BR at the moment, I always thought Martinez's teams defended like mugs. That said, you can't really argue with what he's done at Everton so far this season.

As for Moses, I don't think he's done badly, but I would like to see Gerrard play that role ahead of Lucas (actually, I was away over the weekend, what happened to Lucas?) and Hendo against Arsenal for a bit of solidity.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas was not involved in the squad because his partner was in labour.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah think lucas had a baby and I think Rogers is trying to defend to much this year second half of last season it was all out attack we murdered teams murdered them now were counter attacking teams just get the passing high tempo playing style back please

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 21:52:48
Dezy boy.
U have only one choice.
Points or the style of play.

Agree0 Disagree0

I will take style of play first, I could not bare watching a Gerard Houllier style LFC again .

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 18:23:31
Keep on saying it but almost no one listens, we desperately need goalscoring midfielders and wingers. Just look at the Chelsea match with goals coming from Hazard and Oscar. Only Moses has scored from open play but the other goals from Gerrard (PK) which anyone could take which leaves the point that only our forwards are getting goals for us and this will be our downfall if not corrected.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah because we don't score any goals and we get so many clean sheets.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's easier said than done. Who is out there who is attainable? If we make CL, Koke would be an option I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

What you have to remember about Chelsea though is they rely almost entirely on their midfielders to score goals because their strikers don't. Were as both of our strikers are on top form.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said dan

Spurs are the luckiest team, Garth bale turned from flop to world class overnight, now Townsend looks just as good right now. If he continues to play like this I'd say go all out for Lennon in January, he's a top player and has a good end product for a ferrari.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally disagree.

He has no end product, hence he can't get his game for Spurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd hardly call it lucky. Spurs bought Bale at a young age and made him world class. Townsend's come all the way through the youth system. Fortunate one's come good as the others left perhaps, but not luck. Fair play to them, they're developing some talent well at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree about Lennon. He is a poor player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lennon is a speedboat without a driver!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lennon does have product, and he has been out injured!

Agree0 Disagree0

Townsend is a fad like sterling, Barkley, Chamberlain, jones. Townsend is 22 his form will run out and he'll probably never get in the team again. What he is doing at the moment should be what our young wingers are taught but aren't

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling, Barkley, Chamberlain and Jones.
How can you call young players (who could still be playing for the under 21's) a fad!?

Truth be told, England should be picking players on form anyway! Especially the wide positions.

If we had picked form players rather than the same old guard, we wouldn't have had such a reliance on the now 30+ year olds who were shown up so badly against Germany.
RUN BARRY RUN!
Oh, you can't. never mind then.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 17:47:54
Hi eds fellow reds. First post.
Watching spurs. Can't see a single player that would walk into our side, despite all the links.
Except possibly Townsend but there's nothing he can do that Stirling can't on his day. I think we'll beat these. And it's the top 7 six-pointers that win us champions league. Keep the faith redmen! {Ed002's Note - One hopes Rodgers sees what a jerk he made of himself when he said "It will take another few windows to get that quality in the group" when comparing the two sides recently.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think not only are you blind but also very very drluded fella

Agree0 Disagree0

I said something similar a while ago and got called deluded as well. Think spurs have great depth and have a better squad than us. However, the media and fans have massively overrated their signings and starting XI. Before the season started everyone thought they could compete for the title and I don't see it. Their starting XI vs ours are about even I think, they have a much better midfield (it is amazing tbf) but their attack is overrated (soldado, Townsend, ericksen vs sturridge, saurez, coutinho I think ours is much better) and dawson/vertonghan are great but all their full backs aren't good (walker IMO is rubbish). Before the season started I said I thought the media bigged them up saying they could compete for the title and I think Chelsea, City and arsenals teams are much better and we aren't miles off Tottenham at all. They may finish above us (due to depth) but if our squad stays fit and we keep saurez I don't see us being far off possibly finishing ahead of them! Also main point about signings is lamela, he may turn out good but for a £25-30m player he shouldn't he walk into their team? also, today was soldado's first premiership goal in open play. What's sturridge on 8? With no penalties and he cost less than half of soldado! May be wrong but think spurs aren't as amazing as everyone says

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs, under Avb have spent £165 million on new players while Liverpool, under Rodgers have spent just over £90 million. Its hardly the worst suggestion in the world to think Rodgers might need a few more windows to catch up with Spurs quality. Especially as the finished above Liverpool when these 2 managers took over. {Ed002's Note - I thought it was only "net" spend that mattered to the Liverpool fans?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol ed002. That would be tarring us all with the same brush. i'm sure you wouldn't do that tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 17:36:16
Watching spurs, that paulinho is the sort of midfielder we need .break up attack then drives forward .missed a trick there BR .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A brilliant player, but we really were never interested.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 15:11:39
Most of the Liverpool fans are saying we have had a satisfactory start, but there is room for improvement. Compare it to Arsenal, and they think they will win all the cups on offer. Well what is the difference between these 2 teams? 2 flipping points! Just 2! I think it's MOTD fever with Arsenal at the moment, and they will probably do alright, but in comparison, we aren't too far bahind at the moment. We have the rest of the season to slip away, or to mount a serious title challange. If not, the consolation is a Top 4 place. We aren't doing too bad if things are thought of it in that way.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Oct 2013 15:33:25
Spot on. But we could have really upped the pressure. with 3 points yesterday.
2 tough games coming ahead, fingers crossed

Agree0 Disagree0

We have has very similar starts with only meeting one of the big 7, us Man U and them Spurs and both getting a good result.

Of course everyone is going a little over the top espcially since Ozil has started so well for them.

The next couple of weeks is a big test for them Chelsea then us.

Will give both clubs a good idea of where they are really at this year

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the interesting thing about it is that we haven't really clicked into gear yet! Once coutinho is back linking the midfield to the front men, opening them tight defences we will be fine! The key for me is for rodgers to settle on his prefered centre halfs! Once this is achieved and with the addition of a goalscoring midfielder in january we will be flying! It is all positives though at the momet!

On a side note, that lallana/lovren equaliser at old teafford yesterday was great! Up the villa today also

Ian the red

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course every team wants to win all it's games, but in my opinion, Newcastle away is not too bad to drop only 2 points. If it was at home, I would be slightly more disappointed. Most of us at the start were expecting a finish of around 5th, and hopefully 4th. The international break may have taken it's toll on our players, especially in comparison to Newcastle. But that is only an excuse, but everyone will slip up eventually.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi mates
I've been reading your page few times and to be honest I'm really surprised by some comments on here.
You had the best start in years, the Newcastle game was a game you would have lost last year. You're second in the league and playing really nice football.
And you're still bashing your team constantly. I don't really understand why. Is it fear of losing games and falling down the table, a fear of not really being good enough. In my opinion you need proper cover for Coutinho, or someone better in his place. Stop whinging, if I didn't know which place you are I would say you are in 15 or smth., after reading comments on here.
Support your team and take one step at a time. You should be satisfied with a top four finish because it's a huge achievement for Liverpool and Rodgers. There is a lot competition for those four places, just look at Tottenham, City, Man Utd, Everton, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. Champions league is something you can really build on and prevent players from your current squad to leave you so they can experience it with another team.
Have a great season and I hope in two weeks the difference will be 5 points :)

(I don't intend to offend you just a honest opinion)

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh and while I'm here can someone tell me what happened to Ed052 he was on the Arsenal page for a short period of time he seemed a nice and sensible bloke. {Ed002's Note - Clearly that wasn't the case given what happened to those poor, poor tortoises. But we have all moved on and don't do gossip.}

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 18:12:12
Ed002, what happened to the tortoise? Are any of them still alive? {Ed002's Note - As I said, we don't do gossip, but they did all live through the ordeal.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi all you are right in real terms the difference between us is just two points and in terms of success so far that's it.
I think its the way we are playing that earning is such well deserved praise and there's not one honest person who would be disappointed if there team was playing so so well.
We have both beaten one top six side apeice that's true, but the Napoli result and performance does count towards our praise rating at present.
Neither of us knows what's going to happen come may but we both hope for our best season for a while and we should both take all the praise we can get, its been a while coming

Agree0 Disagree0

Aces_up1504; Arsenal play Palace next week & Chelsea play City*

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 14:29:46
If Coutinho is not back next week think we should start Luis Alberto. He looked bright when he came on yesterday and looked quality on the ball, very composed. Think Moses could be a quality player to bring off the bench.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If BR sticks with this 3-4-1-2, then Alberto has to start ahead of Moses.

We could go to a 4-4-2 though with Moses and Henderson supporting Sturridge and Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 15:14:22
The Real AG
You want Hendo to play RW Again?

Agree0 Disagree0

No, he could play the left sided attacking role with Moses right.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 14:07:54
these set piece goals we let in are getting too much and its not just down to the goal keeper, it seems that there's no leadership in the defence, as good as skertal has been he is no leader, carra was the leader for our defence when he played, so BR needs to make someone in defence the leader and the other defenders could take their cue from him

6 points ahead of the mancs does it for me :))

we still have couthino to come back and after a run of games we can get back to the top, at least we came back for the point,

my one worry is that the midfield let players run at them time and time again its happend for the last 2 seasons, if we can stop this we will have better chances of winning games to nil, a signing in january would give us the push we need to come in the top 4 , arsenal only bought ozil and his signing has lifted the team, maybe we could do with the same

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Oct 2013 14:58:00
You wanna Buy Ozil from Arsenal?

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree. With 5 defenders on the pitch, you would think such things can be avoided in most situations.

Agree0 Disagree0

We had the same issues last season, not being able to defend set pieces.I think a fair few of us mentioned it during the summer.
We have bought 4 defenders into the team and lost Carra, but we still seem to struggle with the set piece. With our current formation we have 5 Defenders but still concede sloppy goals from set pieces.
A bit of Work still to be done on the training pitch, me thinks

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, Where did he say in the posted he wanted Liverpool to buy Ozil?

What he saying was a top quality buy like in Jan could give us the boost what Ozil gave to Arsenal.

I have to agree we are lacking a leader at Center half but the goals were are conceding really needs to be looked at properly, it is nothing new and has been a problem since BR took over. {Ed002's Note - Sign in please.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Ed 2 My Bad, Cheers for posting it anyway!

Some people just can't say thank you!
So I will say it for them, Thank you BR .
For pulling my team out of a 4 year slump.
For putting me in a top 4 position.
For giving me my pride back.
For making the team a top talking point amoungst pundits.
For keeping suarez at the team.
But most of all, thank you for giving up your job at swansea and risking it all with us.
We are a mercyless bunch, at the first sign of trouble we throw u on the stake . Thanks for putting up with us.

Yesterday you really showed your shrewedness, Liverpool of late wouldve suffered a serious beating but u guided us to a point, more than we deserved.
Thanks a lot BR, of late I can actually check the league table with no worries.

Every bit is fine execpt this last sentence.

Yesterday you really showed your shrewedness, Liverpool of late wouldve suffered a serious beating but u guided us to a point, more than we deserved.
guided us to a point more than what we deserved?

In 2008-2009, we were known as the comeback kings. 7 times we came from behind to win a match and more to get a draw.
You haven't watched Liverpool from long long time mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really like rodgers, but let's wait till december to know how really serious we are about top4.you can't start praising him after 8games

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll say "thank you" when he wins something.
We have had so many successful managers I'm not going to go around praising a manager who has finished 7th and won nowt.

We have standards you know.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its been 20 years since we won the league and 8 since we won the eufa, 4 since we last participated in eufa . So mind me if i'm a tad happy to be third on the log . Just support the man and be happy, life is too short to live on yesterdays and glories past . Comeback kings or not, we deserved to lose the game yesterday, but we salvaged a draw . If you can't see that, go for an eye test mate.

Ndora.

We deserved to loose yesterday against a 10 men team?.
Whaaaaattt. which team u support. u talking about UTD vs Southampton??

Agree0 Disagree0

We played against ten men for 50 mins. Should of won the game

Agree0 Disagree0

You guys forget that when a team goes to ten men they tend to sit back and play for the point, for most of the second half it was just remy attacking.

Hang on a minute the word! I take it your an arsenal fan? So in that case would that mean that when you lost to villa 3-1 at home you were leading the charge of the wenger out brigade? Short memory's football fans I tell you! I like arsenal, I enjoy watching them play and like the way they conduct themselves behind the scenes but I tell you the gooner brigade are getting a tad ahead of themselves at the minute! I remeber arsenal throwing away a 4-0 lead at st james park not too long ago, have some respect for them!

When is coutinho back is it the next match???
Also January we need a big strong midfielder also like to add we need a creative midfielder to rotate with young coutinho seriously we need a strong squad with quality on the bench

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suso or Luis Alberto fit that role.

Papa G

Agree0 Disagree0

Def need that powerhouse in there who can sit and dfive on if need be . let stevie push on and do his magic, he was brilliant yesterday because d had 10 men so he could push on

Agree0 Disagree0

Suso should have never went on loan or shouldn't have sold shelvey either imagine those to in the squad would be a lot stronger better players then moses in the attacking midfielder position

Agree0 Disagree0

Typical bipolar lfc fans. You say shelvey wasn't good enough now we sell him you still complain.suso is getting regular games in la liga and you still say we should not have loaned him out?
how would he develop when all you want him to be is an impact sub, when he doesn't impress you enough you go back to he needs a loan deal just what is happening to sterling

Agree0 Disagree0

Hang on a minute I always liked shelvey I always disagreed with selling him and while I agree with suso getting games in Spain I also think we should have brang a player who's ready to step in unlike Alberto who Rogers doesn't see fit to start yet with coutinho injured there's nobody to come in just a mistake in my opinion hope it's addressed in January unless Allen or Alberto step up to the plate until our little brazilian is back

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 12:12:29
dose anyone else want Joe Allen to start insted of moses when coutinho is out I think he would be good at that number 10 roll

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah moses is just a typical winger get the ball turn and run to direct to play in the hole Allen just has to work hard or Alberto could get a run any taughts

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Oct 2013 15:02:25
Luis Alberto FFS pls. why are we experimenting when we have a player for this position?

Unlike some reds who are bitching and moaning about how were playing, formation etc etc and saying arsenal this arsenal that ohh how well they're playing, no doubt they're playing well but that's my point they are and we're not and how many points are we behind 2 is it, we haven't had a spell yet where we are playing well but are unlike years past we are picking up wins and some draws and if I'm right, people have been moaning that we need to improve well if unless your blind we have improved, you can see it and lastly remember all sides have them in a season its called ups and downs, we're churning points out while playing not entirely bad let's say indifferent and still in the mix cheers

Still happy with the results so far and the way we are playing but what I find worrying is that we had 13 corners yesterday with some big powerful lads who didn't get near a header. Also how many shots flew miles over the bar yesterday about 5 or 6. disappointing for professional footballers who can't strike a clean shot

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Oct 2013 10:36:48
Anybody else think Rodgers should sit the lads down, and tell them the next player to loose his man at set pieces is getting dropped?
I know its harsh, but it's becoming a joke.
A team with Skrtel, Toure and Sakho shouldn't be conceding at set pieces. We should be totally dominating both boxes.

I don't care if your Steven Gerrard or Glen Johnson, keep loosing your man and your out. We have the strength in depth to drop pretty much anyone for a game or too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Oct 2013 11:45:06
Good point. Playing 3 at the Back, all Experienced Internationals and yet conceding goal at set pieces is a real shame.
But we should have put the game to bed early on, we had 45 mts to score 2-3 goals.
Luis alberto looked really good when came on, calm and composed, yet he doesn't get a game is a bigger question mark

Agree0 Disagree0

Who told you he isn't already warning them bout it.the problem is even if agger comes back into the team things won't really change
For me the problem is still communication

I agree the problem won't change with Agger in defence, but it's not as if we are asking them to do something they are incapable of doing, they just need to F'ing concentrate.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a training ground problem.
I doubt we practise defending set pieces, otherwise the only conclusion is our coaches are clueless.

I think we just do passing drills in training. No defending and no shooting.

I'm a glasgow rangers season ticket holder guys looking for a little information from any Liverpool fan who cares to help me, christian purslow I have on very good authority is going to be our new chief executive and I've been told this would be a terrific appointment for us as he's tremendous at his job, I know he was md at Liverpool so how highly do you guys rate him with the job he did at Liverpool & would it be a good appointment for us?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he could be a good appointment.

A lot of people criticised him because he didn't give Rafa enough Man-Love week in week out. However, he was working under Hicks and Gillett. Purslow, along with Broughton and Ayres managed to manoeuvre H&G out of our club, so for that reason I give them a huge amount of credit.

I think he's a shrewd operator and he will help sort some of the mess at Rangers.
Good luck

Morning everyone.

Lets have some perspective here.

If someone had said we would have been joint 2nd in the league at this stage we would have bitten their hand off!

Yes you could argue we should have won the game, but we didn't! We are NOT going to win every game. At least we didn't lose.

If you can't win. make sure you don't lose. and all that!

Coutinho is a massive miss and it is clear that Moses isn't a number 10. I'm not having a go at Moses (i think he's a good addition, makes us stronger) but he's best played out wide where he can run at people and cut in.

To be a quality number 10 you need lots of things, but most of all VISION! this is what Coutinho has in bucket loads.

Stop with all the doom and gloom and just accept that sometimes we won't be good enough to take all 3 points, but have solace in the fact that most of the time we won't lose!

Cheers

To be a No.10 you must have skill, technical brilliance.
Ozil, Mata, Silva, . they don't possess pace. they need not, but they should be skillful.
