Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

21 Aug 2017 22:23:35
Just seen a report that 'suggests' that we have put in a bid for Kovacic. Surely this is lazy journalism, presuming that Macca is correct about Keita or does that suggest yet another twist in our summer plans?
(Presuming we had any)

MDS.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

21 Aug 2017 23:02:13
Like you, I doubt that rumour very much, MDS. Kova is at Real Madrid, the best team on the planet where he has won 7 trophies in the past two seasons (and counting) and who is improving with every game as one player ZZ counts on. What on earth would he be doing here?

21 Aug 2017 23:17:26
No interest at all. Right ed?

{Ed002's Note - You would need to find another Ed to put words in the mouth of.}

22 Aug 2017 00:00:45
i hope so. he is one of my favourite players! but didn't Real just "reported" reject a bid from Juventus.

{Ed002's Note - There was indeed an offer which Juve thought would be successful that was rejected.}

22 Aug 2017 00:11:46
Bingo - he'd be playing more than he does at Madrid. Players have a tendency to want to play more than they are doing. Maybe it sounds familiar (Emre Can)?

22 Aug 2017 01:06:53
Well if Kovacic's lack of playing time persists this season as well, then we can sign him next season as replacement for Coutinho who will create a fuss later on anyways. Just to p*** Barcelona off, we should offer Real Coutinho and demand cash and Kovacic (if they want Coutinho) . Barcelona will look like utter fools then.

22 Aug 2017 05:42:44
@Ib

If Kovacic do come this window then that flat footed sideways passing midfield would look like world beater! If Keita isn't happening then Kovacic is an ideal replacement! And I ll go mad 😎😎😎😎😎.

22 Aug 2017 08:21:08
We Can't, are you Harry by any chance? Please, say no.

21 Aug 2017 21:47:05
During studges injury issues he has more often than not been at the Anfield to support the lads do you think couts will be there for the next couple of games?

Believable3 Unbelievable6

21 Aug 2017 22:11:30
That's what we all hope for mate! Saw City tonight and Coutinho will destroy their backline on his own!

21 Aug 2017 22:34:17
Personally I think we should lay off Coutinho and see what transpires.
I expect him to stay and to play a major part in a successful season for LFC. People are comparing him to Suarez and then saying they'd welcome Suarez back.
He's nothing like Suarez, he's never embarrassed the club for his own gain.
He'll be back in red winning matches before long. 🏆.

21 Aug 2017 22:35:22
This transfer window was suppose to galvanize us supporters instead we have gone backwards, eds do u think the owners are aware of how pissed off us fans are.

{Ed025's Note - of course they are hailstones, they are trying to get players in but wont be held to ransom mate..

22 Aug 2017 00:16:59
If Coutinho does end up still being with LFC on 1st September then I'm sure it's going to be with the understanding that he's going to toe the line. Otherwise it simply won't work. Not for LFC, having a vital key player sulking and not producing as before. And not for Coutinho, in terms of his career with both LFC and Brazil.

21 Aug 2017 22:58:31
Sound cheers mate for response I jus want too feel the club going in rite direction all it has been is negative press from the clubs own doing from tappin up young players too tappin up vvd which is criminal we are liverpool can't we do things the correct way and make decisions that will help us on the pitch the fans deserve that.

{Ed025's Note - liverpool have specific targets hailstones and will not purchase second best, i applaud them for that stance and i know mistakes have been made over the way they have gone about things but its time to move on now mate..

22 Aug 2017 08:41:32
Exactly ed. Look what happened when we missed targets and bought for the sake of it. Benteke and balotelli anyone?

22 Aug 2017 09:34:21
Salah and Roberston weren't Klopps first choices and they seem to be doing ok. I don't buy this we're not buying because VVD and Kieta aren't available. There is surely more than 2 players in world football that could improve our team that Klopp can work with.

22 Aug 2017 10:18:26
I tend to agree with you @Jayden. But end of the day it's Klopp who decides mate! So far he isn't looking for alternatives!

21 Aug 2017 21:29:39
With no house being bought, one can only assume naby was on Germany's version of " A place in the clouds ".

Believable8 Unbelievable5

21 Aug 2017 22:40:34
I think if couts left then we would go for naby.

21 Aug 2017 22:49:07
We need Naby Keita as well as Coutinho!
Schalke 04 beat Leipzig 2-0 at weekend. Schalke manager said after game. It was like playing against 12 men because of Keita. He's two players in one and absolutely brilliant.
Break the bank for him Liverpool!

21 Aug 2017 22:59:28
We have gone for him 3 times door shut firmly in our face.

21 Aug 2017 23:34:42
we would go for naby? am I crazy or haven't we already gone for him 3 times and failed.

22 Aug 2017 01:16:00
We should try one more time for Naby. Naby, Coutinho and Hando/ Can in a midfield 3 will be boss. Losing faith with Gini again after his last 3 performances. Gone missing in each and every one of them. He is a good utility player to have but Keita has the potential to be world class.

22 Aug 2017 02:43:17
Lepzig have said he's not for sale - and money is not important. It doesn't matter how many times we go in for him, or for how much. Why don't people understand that?

22 Aug 2017 07:59:26
Because they're thick?

22 Aug 2017 08:11:05
Liver-la, did you watch the game?! Are you sure the Schalke manager didn't say it was like we had twelve men with Keita! The first half especially, all he did was pass to Schalke! Lol

Before I get bashed I'm not saying he is a bad player because of one bad performance I'm just stating that he did not perform well in that game!

22 Aug 2017 08:23:01
Jensxn, I don't know, mate. The only other reason I would think is that people are standing on the saying of "Hope springs eternal".

21 Aug 2017 21:06:04
A question for the eds and not related to transfers, do the clubs have agreements between each other to allow managers access to watch games and if so are there any restrictions, i. e. Which games they can attend, cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Managers rarely attend but scouts do. In nearly all cases they request seats from the club itself so it is all pretty open.}

21 Aug 2017 21:11:30
Cheers for the quick reply ed02, just noticing Jose at the game tonight, I guess it is more interesting for him than another room service club sandwich 😀.

21 Aug 2017 21:28:14
Jose spotted at Ethihad, who must be he watching ed02? 🤔.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City.}

21 Aug 2017 23:35:06
Rooney lol.

21 Aug 2017 23:45:27
Rooney.

21 Aug 2017 23:58:33
Key word being "rarely".

22 Aug 2017 05:59:28
Maybe a 90mil bid for Rooney is coming up?

21 Aug 2017 20:29:40
Hi all

Ed002. I hope you don't mind mate but I read all the pages and i've just read this from the Saints page in responce to them asking if VVD could play for them this season -

{Ed002's Note - The fans will destroy him. He has made it clear that he doesn't want to play for the club, he has not made himself available for selection, he has submitted a transfer request and he has made that public. It is nothing at all to do with any other players. Clubs do not like to have disgruntled players at the club and they know it can be disruptive. }

I just wanted your thoughts please on our Coutinho situation as to me it is exactlt the same. I don't see how he can play for us again for all the reasons youve explained above on VVD?

Appreciate your work mate.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - We have been through this, why do you want to rake up the extreme unprofessionalism of Liverpool and Klopp and the damage they have done?}

21 Aug 2017 20:39:03
Owe ok. No I definitely don't want to rake that up again. Im aware of that mate. Was thinking more about Pipco and how the fans, Klopp and the club will forget about his TR and him not wanting to play for us again and put him back in the team.

Dont want to discuss VVD at all ed sorry I wasnt clear. Just trying to weigh up how Couts comes back in, assuming he stays.

21 Aug 2017 20:51:01
Do clubs have to disclose to a player that another club has made an offer?

{Ed002's Note - No but they would easily find out.}

21 Aug 2017 22:19:41
Mighty, Suarez did 5 times worse (bit a player, racially abused a player, took us to a tribunal etc. ) than whatever Cou would ever have done and he was reprimanded, punished, forced to train with the reserves and to apologize publicly. Even he was brought back into the team so of course, there is a way he can reintegrate the group. Klopp knows he need him and he's not stupid. We need him and if you don't think so, just watch the CP game again.

21 Aug 2017 20:05:52
Who was the better manager in your opinion Shankley or Paisley? Would like to hear peoples thoughts.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

21 Aug 2017 20:14:40
Paisley. But come on Shanks is the absolute God of this football club and made it all happen mate.

21 Aug 2017 20:21:24
Shankly was the founding father of modern day LFC.

Bob was the greatest club manager EVER.

21 Aug 2017 20:23:41
Why does it matter
They were both greats
No need to compare and rate one against the other.

21 Aug 2017 20:51:56
Thats like saying which tabit do you prefer to tune in, the left or the right.

21 Aug 2017 22:39:41
Both would sit astride the current bunch of third rate, ego maniac millionaire managers like giants.

If that makes sense.

Paisley was, I believe a reluctant genius.

22 Aug 2017 01:59:57
Couldn't easily choose between them but my vote ould go to Shankly he is like our inston Churchill ith his quips. ithout him the club would not of reached the heights we were able to. Although Paisley was perhaps more successful Shanks laid the foundations with Paisley as his assistant and perhaps in Paisleys case to quote Sir Isaac Newton; "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. "

22 Aug 2017 06:23:41
Paisley inherited an aging side with internal conflict due to Shanks being reluctant to demote his favourite players (one of his few weaknesses) . Paisley bought well, reinvigorated the side, was ruthless when needed and tactically was superior. Shanks was a superior "salesman" (which Liverpool needed in the early 70s) but in most respects, Paisley was a better manager. IMHO He would be one of the best managers the world of football has seen.

22 Aug 2017 13:53:06
In the words of Paisley himself "Shankly built the house, I just furnished it".

22 Aug 2017 16:27:05
Without Shankly there is no Paisley and without Paisley there is no situation to praise Shankly's legacy. I don't think it is possible to put one above the other.

21 Aug 2017 19:43:52
Could be just media but reports of coutinho reps trying to calm the situation in regards to his reasons for not playing just in case he stays.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

21 Aug 2017 21:37:28
If he stays he should sit it out in the stiffs for a few games.

21 Aug 2017 22:06:53
Stick him on the kop for a few matches.

21 Aug 2017 22:26:41
I trust that Klopp will handle the whole thing in-house. If Cou does not go to Barca, he has no one else to blame BUT himself cos based on the disgusting offer they made, they were not even ready to pay for him after he orchestrated the whole thing. Why? Cos he went to them and not the other way around so of course, they expected him to come on the cheap. Well, I hope he and his agents have learnt their lessons.

22 Aug 2017 00:17:11
Ultimately, if he goes he goes, if he stays and knuckles down then that's as much as we can expect. He's been flirting with Barcelona for over a year so it was always likely to be an issue, I do think he should play himself a couple of u23 games to show him that the club can function without him.

22 Aug 2017 08:25:32
Dennis, we can do that but only if he needs it for the fitness part of things, not to teach him a lesson cos really, we cannot function without him and the CP game shows that. I'm sure Klopp will smooth things out internally cos he may be a passionate guy BUT he's mug, Cutting his nose to spite his face is not the way to go here, IMO.

New image uploaded to the
Liverpool Player Sightings page entitled, I think this puts to bed any chance of Van Dijk signing, apparently he was at Wembley watching Chelsea..

Believable3 Unbelievable14

21 Aug 2017 19:32:51
Who is that?

21 Aug 2017 19:48:37
Navy Keith?

21 Aug 2017 20:30:13
Its VVDs Friend, Go down to the next photos.
Gutted, is an undersatement if its true.

21 Aug 2017 20:32:07
'Apparently'. Doesn't exactly put it to bed does it lol.

21 Aug 2017 21:07:42
Ok. Well it was taken this weekend and VVD has been in London all week. He's going to Chelsea. We've ballsed it up good and proper.

21 Aug 2017 22:13:41
2 + 2 = 5
As bad as the fat kid from Bolton!

22 Aug 2017 00:24:57
How is it 2+2=5? Chelsea are in for van Dijk. That's a fact. He was in London all of last week and posted on social media that he was. He wrote "LONDON" with a picture of himself, also a fact. He (and his best mate, who are joined at the hip) attend Spurs v Chelsea. Southampton are now looking at a replacement. They will probably want shot of someone who is disrupting their team and they won't sell to us. That's a little more than 2+2 = 5. In fact that's better than balance of overall probability. If you want to look at people as bad as the fat kid from Bolton, it's the ones still clinging onto the possibility of signing van Dijk and Keita. They're not happening. Our so called committee will go for Ox and probably Gibson, as that's as far as their imagination stretches, mediocrity. They lack the nous to bring in genuine top class talent.

22 Aug 2017 01:46:58
Don't our representatives meet people in London at times? such as in recent history the Barcelona/ Coutinho affair. Not saying he is there to meet them just saying doesn't automatically mean he is going to Chelsea.

22 Aug 2017 01:55:07
If social media posts are the cast iron proof that you need then no wonder twitter is full of transfer rubbish for gullible fools!
I have no doubt Van Dijk was in London last week, was it just for a day or all week? Chelsea are the only reason he could be there right? Just playing devils advocate but don't Liverpool also have offices in London?
I have no doubt his best mate was at the Spurs v Chelsea game, are you sure Van Dijk was there too?
He probably will end up at Chelsea rather than Liverpool as our recruitment is absolutely useless but a couple of social media posts aren't proof of anything.

21 Aug 2017 18:42:03
I hope Liverpool don't send Kent out on loan, he looks good and with the Epl coming up him Flanagan and Ings can get games under there belts, i hope Liverpool don't give free kicks to Sturridge and Milner again, poor takers.

Believable5 Unbelievable6

21 Aug 2017 19:11:57
It was refreshing seeing TAA take them. Accurate, dangerous and such confidence.

21 Aug 2017 19:34:13
Only reason for Kent to go to RBL on loan for me is if it's to do with us signing Kieta this window. Otherwise why weaken our already stretched squad.

21 Aug 2017 19:39:11
Set piece is a skill and TAA has it! We need him now Coutinho might go!

21 Aug 2017 20:02:07
Seriously? Sturridge and Milner take 1 each against Palace, don't score and now should never take one again. TAA score's once and is now the new Sinisa Mihajlovic, let's not build players up too quickly, give him some time to develop.

21 Aug 2017 20:57:46
Not to take anything away from the free kick, no one jumped.

21 Aug 2017 21:09:05
Smog Head Milner has been taking them for two years and never clears his first man, much less set any goals up from a corner. As it is, our best corner taker is a kid barely out of the academy,

21 Aug 2017 22:28:15
Mr Dennis I was talking about free kicks which was the topic of the original post, why are you talking about corners?

21 Aug 2017 22:29:27
Dennis, you have to consider where the free kick was before slating the taker. TAA's was 25 yards out, ample time to get it over the wall and back down with a wider angle to work with. Milner's was right on the edge of the box so no time to get a dip on the ball after going over the wall. Context is always needed, my friend.

22 Aug 2017 00:29:23
Milner hasn't taken and scored a free kick in years, but in general his dead ball ability is very mediocre at best, can you honestly remember the last time that we had a corner that cleared the first man? His penalty taking is good, but that's all. Take Coutinho out of the team and we actually do need someone like TAA who can actually strike a ball properly. By the way, he's been doing that at all levels he's played at, the goal against Hoffenheim was no fluke.

22 Aug 2017 07:01:29
When was the last time Milner scored a freekick? Or delivered a decent corner for that matter? Regardless of his age TAA is the best corner taker we have - possibly the second best freekick taker (after Coutinho) but could become better. Age isn't a factor here let's not pretend like our set pieces have always been amazing, they've been, in general, poor for years.

{Ed025's Note - lets have some perspective here seano, TAA is a young guy trying to make his way in football and is still very green so lets not put too much pressure on the lad, hes not a leighton baines yet mate..

22 Aug 2017 10:37:56
It's not really a testament to how amazing he is though Ed - and I agree we should try and keep his feet on the ground - but rather how poor the rest of the players are when it comes to set piece delivery. TAA is quite clearly a better corner taker than both Milner and Coutinho, certainly Lallana, and aside from that who else do we have? As for freekicks it may be too early to say but he did score one, which is more than Milner seems to do, which already raises his position in the pecking order. It's nothing about blowing smoke up the lads ass - it's that we don't have many good set piece takers in the squad and TAA seems to be pretty good at them. Certainly no Leighton Baines yet but gives it a few years mate!

{Ed025's Note - i love to see the youngsters come through for both teams seano, we used to be the best at it and there are signs that it is coming to pass again mate..

21 Aug 2017 18:24:41
So less than two weeks left in the transfer window it's safe to say that hypothetically if nothing else is done regarding players coming in or out this could go down as one of the worst summer windows I've witnessed. Not only would we have failed to recruit the targets we needed but we would also be left paying the wages to several players who clearly aren't wanted and aren't going to get a look in. Sakho, moreno, markovic should all be gone, some youngsters should probably be out on loan, and the likes of ings, milner, karius, I don't even know what the plans are for them this season.

Even sturridge, towards the end of last season nearly everyone was saying well he should definitely be gone in the summer and a new striker got, he can't be relied on and even if he could I'm sorry but I just don't think he's the same player he used to be whether it's down to injuries of a mental thing I don't know.

Those players should have all been gone either permanent or on loan and we should have strengthened our weaknesses like our rivals have, the Manchester clubs being a prime example. I'm not saying they are perfect now but at least they have worked adequately and I'm sure there's still more to come from them. Really hope there is more for us too and we have a busy end on deadline day even if that's what it takes but I can't say it's going to be what I or a lot of us thought it would be at the beginning of the window.

Several asking prices for our players should have been lowered a long time ago and got rid of and a lb, cb, cm, winger, striker and possibly even a gk and rb should have been gotten in. Sorry if it seems like I'm being the voice of negativity here but if we were all to be honest with ourselves it doesn't look great for our squad at the minute, a squad that struggled last season with depth and freshness now has to do the same again but with added champions league football.

Believable17 Unbelievable12

21 Aug 2017 18:42:58
We've signed players for two of the three positions we needed (LB and Wing) .

21 Aug 2017 18:48:51
Agree with most! We need reinforcements big time! All this crap about buying young for sell on reasons etc it's utter b#%##%x! Utd have no problem signing a player in his late 20's early 30's and proving it's worth a go van Persie won them the league and zlatan more or less gave them everything they got last year! And they are no spring chickens!
Klopp saying the squad is strong enough I'm
Starting to think he is a spoofer we've a net spend of nottin over the last few windows with the selling the club has done! All this nonsense give the kids a go instead of buying it's the same people that turn on them when they fail! We all know we need players if it happens or not before the window cloeses nobody knows! Let's just hope the ones we've chased all summer are signed before the window shuts or it could be a long season.

21 Aug 2017 18:53:41
The famous saying If it's not broken then don't fix it. Last season we won our games by simply out running and scoring the opposition and for a lot of the games were a delight to watch. We struggled with pace when Mane was out so we have brought in Salah. We struggled when teams parked the bus so Solanke could be that option. With them pair and if Coutinho stays then our attack will have improved with more options. Defensively we were broken. We had no bite in midfield and that has not changed in this window, at times our midfield were like a revolving door to opposition players. We now have Roberston and TAA at fullbacks and going forward them pair have improved us, but will they improve the fact that our keeper can pull off a top save 1 minute and then refuse to come off his line or catch a ball straight at him for the next 89 minutes. Has our ability to defend set pieces and crosses improved? Do we have a leader in the back 4 and keeper? We look like we have improved our offence but defensively we have stagnated. Some of these players have been here for numerous seasons. If they haven't improved under Klopp since he has been here then I don't see why this season will be any different. This season looks like nothing has changed defensively, The weaknesses are still there for all to see. For me we have missed a massive opportunity this window to take us to the next level.

21 Aug 2017 19:02:06
We have missed a huge opportunity. We finished 4th last season with near enough the same squad as now, do the club not realise this is going to be a tougher season playing weekend and mid week? Do they not want to push on? Not only is it going to be tougher physically with the added games but also with our rivals strengthening. Chelsea won the league and still strengthened some areas. We finish 4th and seem happy to go into the new season with the same weaknesses we had last year? It just seems strange to me I hope I'm wrong but come the Christmas period I can really see that squad struggling for depth and legs to get us over the line in some games. A title challenge is way off the mark this season unfortunately unless things dramatically change over the next week.

21 Aug 2017 20:38:10
I thought you said the transfer window is open for another 2 weeks? How have we missed the opportunity of the window is still open. Maybe wait til the dust settles before you spend the next 10 days crying.

21 Aug 2017 20:57:25
If I was part of the the team making decisions on transfers I would be waiting until after the Hoffenheim game.

If we are in CL it makes a difference to transfers, who we can attract maybe.

If we are not in CL, maybe this impacts budget?

21 Aug 2017 22:31:26
I would ask people to wait till the TW is over b4 passing judgement but I know many of them won't so why bother?

21 Aug 2017 23:59:50
So the original poster makes the assumption that no more business will be done and then goes on along rant on that basis. Ha ha. Wait til the TW is shut before ranting.

21 Aug 2017 18:13:00
Love to see 1 nil wins! There are plenty of positives to take but let's face it our problem has been putting away teams like palace at anfield. We should be able to bring in the likes of Klavan and Gomez for such games at home to take pressure off others for CL and bigger league games.

It's the midfield I worry about. If coutinho can slot back in great but again we need depth to take into account CL and league games. I don't know why Klopp doesn't revert to 2 in the middle say Hendo/ Can with 3 behind a striker. There is no way we need 3 of hendo, can, Milner and wini in there.

I was impressed with Solanke when he came on I hope he gets plenty of chances in the coming weeks. It would be a huge bonus if he could hit the ground running. As for sturridge I think he will be more effective away from home if he can remain fit. Big if.

Looking forward to Wednesday night already. A win there and 3 pts against Arsenal and it will be a great start to the season, considering all that's gone on and inparticular all the moaning and complaining of fans!

That said 2 -3 additions r will enable us to compete in all the comps.

YNWA.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

21 Aug 2017 18:33:04
It's laughable to read some fans are suddenly worried about midfield. I was told that area was well stocked and we shouldn't be pushing for Keita! If you take out Coutinho the midfield is flat and medicore from a long time. He was keeping it on his own! Strange some people have spotted it YESTERDAY. The last ball playing CM liverpool had was Xabi Alonso!

21 Aug 2017 18:41:51
Not just jumping on the bandwagon from one game. With both lallana and coutinho out it leaves a gaping lack of variation in our midfield play. I've been crying out for another midfielder who can play and commit players as well as a tiop striker (which isn't going to happen) . Alonso was the best in there but Stevie G wasn't half bad either😂😂😂😂 or did u forget about him especially during 2013/ 14 .

21 Aug 2017 18:50:06
Our midfield is fine, but injuries to Lallana and Coutinho, our two most creative players have hindered us. Keita is only completely necessary if Coutinho leaves in my opinion. People need to realise that despite our apparent terrible midfield, we still created a lot of chances against a team that only wanted to defend. I swear some would
only be happy if we cut them to pieces on every attack. Some of the overeaction is criminal.

21 Aug 2017 18:55:12
I agree Gerrard was fantabulous in the holding role shame he never had fresh legs. But he is a once in a lifetime player. The club continued to neglect the central midfield area over the years and filled it with B2B players or in Ed0's version ( hard core running midfielders ) . Most teams plays a 2 men midfield compared to us yet they are more successful. They have different variations in midfiled. We pass it Coutinho! Our only mission in midfield! The only purr who has the vision to pick players and speed it from one area to other. This is not a sudden development mate! The gaps are shown coz you are missing the most crucial player in that place!

21 Aug 2017 18:56:12
Good post redroon. However a defeat on wed and to Arsenal will that mean the fans moaning and complaining are correct.

21 Aug 2017 19:09:18
Ed01, if you are around. A task for you 😄. Why don't you write something about midfield in general ( not just ours ) and different variations and midfield players. I have seen posters struggling to grasp between a Carzola and Nainngolan ( both central midfielders ) yet miles apart from each other. Why does inspite of playing 3CM's we look flat footed in the center! What does we lack or which kind of midfielder we need there, you have plenty to put up together and frame an article. Trust me this would be your best ever! And please include some examples from outside PL and England!

Cheers!

{Ed001's Note - I have added that to my to do list mate.}

21 Aug 2017 19:40:33
I ll be waiting mate! That's my fav area of the pitch!

{Ed001's Note - don't hold your breath. I am miles behind on articles!}

21 Aug 2017 22:37:26
Can't defend, if you think SG was fantabulous in the DM role then you need to go watch him again that season cos none of what you say is true and he offered NOTHING defensively to the CB's n was a big reason we conceded at will that season. Don't blame him tho. I blame the "genius" who put him there and benching a true DM in Lucas.

21 Aug 2017 18:05:53
I have a feeling FSG are waiting for champions league guarantee before making signings. They don't want to spend unless it's guaranteed we have more games.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - FSG don't make the signings.}

21 Aug 2017 18:19:08
Won't we have more games either way? Because if we lose won't we drop to Europa? Meaning we would play thursdays?

21 Aug 2017 18:20:52
As the Eds have previously said, it is not logical to wait for CL qualification.
1. Budget is not a problem, so we are not waiting for CL money. That would be the only reason to wait, like teams from weaker leagues do.
2. We will, no matter what, have to play more games, cause if we don't qualify for CL, we will be playing in the Europa League group stages.

No offence, but sometimes the ignorance of our fans amazes me.
RTP and gather info before you post sth.

21 Aug 2017 18:38:09
So what happens to Salah if we don't qualify? Lol!

21 Aug 2017 18:59:39
I love it how the people who jump on their high horse when the club or players are criticised have no issue with criticising their fellow fan who may have different views to them or maybe slightly less in the know of certain things.

21 Aug 2017 20:41:17
Cos if you don't know what you're talking about Jayden it's probably best not to say anything in my view. ( but what do I know lol)

21 Aug 2017 22:40:59
Why would the club do that, exactly Jay? That is just illogical. We strengthened the left side of our team with Salah and Robbo and did we wait for CL footie to do that? Would you have been saying that had VVD and Keita come off earlier in the summer? Sheesh!

21 Aug 2017 18:03:01
Just a question to any Ed if a player goes on strike does he still get paid or is just fines? I'd hate to think us fans who go the game r still paying for these mercenaries.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - You need to stop using the word "strike". The maximum a player can be fined is two weeks wages. If there is any prolonged period of non-availability then legal action can be taken.}

21 Aug 2017 18:35:00
Nice one👍👍.

22 Aug 2017 10:41:57
You answered a similar query of mine the other day about this and I didn't get chance to thank you Ed so cheers for that.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

21 Aug 2017 17:05:58
I think Gomez should continue to play at right back than central defender.
Judged by the way he play against Palace.
He played well and showed a lot of improvement.

Believable2 Unbelievable11

21 Aug 2017 17:14:01
I'd rather TAA as he gives us a good dead ball taker. Haven't seen a corner like that in ages and his free kick against Hoffenheim was superb, if anything I'd like Gomes alongside Matip.

21 Aug 2017 17:14:53
No. that position should be TAA's.
He lacks the attacking instinct and the ability to whip in a deadly cross.

21 Aug 2017 17:32:44
That position is TAA's to lose, right now. Gomez is very promising and was more than solid vs CP even tho, our FB's were not all that tested. Still, a good showing can only help.

21 Aug 2017 17:37:44
TAA all the way! The last thing he need is to be pegged back! Gomez I suspect will end up either being sold or loaned!

21 Aug 2017 18:14:14
Both are young and need games.
I would give the position to TAA with Gomez rotated in through the season when needed for fitness or if a more defensive minded player will be needed against certain opposition.
With Gomez being deployed as cover for RB and CB he would get plenty of game time through the season.

21 Aug 2017 21:05:52
I don't think the right back slot is TAA's to lose at all, but I think he is the long term solution at right back. When Clyne is fit I fully expect him to play a load more games than TAA there this year, probably next season too. I rate TAA highly but you don't just drop an experienced international defender for a kid who is still learning. He'll be integrated more and more and shielded from some of the fans who are so quick to tear apart the confidence of a kid who is just developing. Gomez, for me, is a centre half but as he lacks top level experience there and has been introduced in full back positions to get some experience. He won't become a full back for me, he'll be a centre half and brought in in cup games etc and perhaps deputising in a few PL games to give our first choice pair a rest as the schedule gets busier.

22 Aug 2017 10:45:55
Disagree completely Gmac I think you play the player most suited to the position, most suited to the team, in the best form. TAA is that player. Clyne was poor for large parts of last season and proved his inability to attack with any sort of cutting edge - and his defending is by no means good enough for him to start ahead of TAA. I would expect TAA to start the majority of games this season (unless he suffers a catastrophic loss of confidence or form) because, quite simply, he is better.

21 Aug 2017 16:59:35
Eds, if Liverpool did pull off the Vvd deal, who do u see as suffering as a result in the cb position? Or do u see anyone leaving as a result.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Not at this point.}

21 Aug 2017 16:54:16
Beginning to think Maccabees has a point. Showing no real interest in anyone except keita and VVD and ox. Think we qualify Wednesday and might see us make a move. But I understand ed02 also and his comments on keita especially. Just think two years ago everything we did was known by anyone weeks ahead.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2017 17:24:51
Really? I think we would of made a move before now if we was going to. Why leave it so late in the last 2 weeks of the season? Couts situation has delayed things imo to a point were we have left everything else on hold to concentrate on keeping a player who doesn't want to be here.

21 Aug 2017 17:27:13
Although we were linked with Harry Maguire as well as Robertson and it's looking like a mistake not getting that deal done.

21 Aug 2017 17:34:44
I don't know what people see in MacGuire, really. He is decent on the ball BUT that is about it. he has no pace and would struggle in a high defensive line hence, not good enough for us.

21 Aug 2017 16:18:21
If we are hoping to get 3 transfers in before the end of the window (I think we need 3 and that seems to be the general consensus) surely we should be seeing some news this week with regards to at least one of the deals?!

A week and a half to go Ed001 are you as worried as the rest of us 😂?

We do need another wide player given the lack of rest Mane is getting currently. He'll be starting against hoffenheim and arsenal so that'll be 5 games in two weeks!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - not worried mate, I have bigger worries than if we buy players or not. Teams are built not bought.}

21 Aug 2017 16:52:48
Some people are so engrossed in football.

There are far more important things than football and Liverpool, such as who will become Brucies replacement and what format the new x factor will take this year.

21 Aug 2017 17:03:21
Personally i would have thought that kent would be the perfect understudy but i have seen reports that he may be sent out on loan again to germany this time. I have mixed feelings about this, he obviously benefitted from playing regularly at barnsley and playing regularly in the bundesliga will definately bring him on again. But he could also do a job for us right now but he would not play regularly. I just don't know how to call this one in afraid.

Either way he def deserves the new contract he has been given as he has clearly applied himself last year and he has improved.

21 Aug 2017 17:56:00
Ed001, love the cool and the calm. Refreshing!

{Ed001's Note - makes a change for me!}

21 Aug 2017 15:16:32
Can anyone suggest the best way of getting hold of match day tickets for home games? I live in the North East and go to the away games up here when Liverpool play (and sit in the home end : ( ) but can't find anywhere to get home tickets.
Is there a season ticket exchange or anything similar for fans to purchase tickets?
Any help appreciated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2017 15:56:17
i joined members club on there web page about £27 a year and got tickets for Wednesdays game would have got palace tickets and arsenal one's to but membership takes 24 hours to come active and by then was both sell outs but I did get tickets for all 3 games but would not let buy them until membership was active.

21 Aug 2017 16:10:10
Brilliant! Thanks Grino.

21 Aug 2017 16:36:02
You wouldn't have been eligible for the Arsenal game Grino as you wouldn't have had 4 games from last year on your membership.

21 Aug 2017 16:43:41
Membership is the best way to get your foot in the door, you shouldn't have a problem getting tickets for the cup games but it's still hard to get tickets for league games, they sell within minutes and you need luck getting past the queues before they all go.

21 Aug 2017 17:41:56
Now Spasmith where in the North East our you? If you manage to get tickets let me know if you could get me one and you want to share spoils on travel etc?

Baz.

21 Aug 2017 17:52:10
Try and make friends with someone in the Supporters Club usually there are quite a few people with an extra ticket or willing to give up their ticket for face and a few pints.

21 Aug 2017 18:01:46
Baz, I'm from Durham area. Go to all away games when up here, but always in the home end. Loads of dodgy looks when we score.

21 Aug 2017 18:01:46

21 Aug 2017 14:33:15
Probably more a question for Ed01 this! Is Klopp still attending the youth games regularly? Is he still showing an interest as he was when he first got the job, or is he more relying on the info others give him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head I don't actually know, if no one here knows I will ask, though I very much doubt he will have had much time to attend this season with the extra games.}

21 Aug 2017 16:08:38
He only went to the first game on like the day he was signed since then he's rarely gone. Which was one of the sticks used to beat the brodge with.

{Ed001's Note - he went to more than that mate. But being unable to get to many is one of the reasons for moving the training ground to the same site as the academy.}

21 Aug 2017 14:15:14
Have watched last 2 un23 games and Matty Virtue looks very good, his runs into the box are bit like lampard and also has really good energy for box to box just thought I'd put it out there.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2017 15:13:44
Are they virtually identical?

21 Aug 2017 14:02:15
So apparantly Barcelona have now ended interest and withdrawn there offer for Pipco. Any thoughts anyone? Pinch of salt?

Believable9 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2017 14:09:14
It all means nothing until the window shuts.

21 Aug 2017 14:10:42
If he plays against Arsenal then all is forgotten and foregiven and we move happily? If not then we have a bigger problem than Barcelona!

21 Aug 2017 14:41:55
He won't play against Arsenal or on Wednesday. So we now have a player that is refusung to play for us and wants to leave but we won't sell him. I really don't see what we are going to do with him moving forward, im not sure Klopp can play someone who is not arsed and wants out?

21 Aug 2017 15:42:03
WE can't DEFEND.

I agree with you totally depends what state his head is in.
truthfully am more worried if MANE gets an injury he been outstanding.

21 Aug 2017 15:53:06
Fact is on 1st September if he's still here he'll have to apologise and crack on or risk playing with U23s. I think I know what he'll do he can't risk that in a World Cup year. Will the fans forgive him though? Probably not at first but as soon as that first free kick flies into the top corner we'll all be singing his name again. Fickle bunch us footy fans ;-)

21 Aug 2017 16:19:27
That's about the size of it Ings n things. I still have this nagging doubt that he'll be here. But if he is, then it's a result, of sorts.

21 Aug 2017 17:23:06
Well, whatever he's going to do, Coutinho needs to make his mind up and get back to being a professional footballer. Aside from all the Liverpool games he's missing (and the havoc he's causing), there's a Brazil qualifier in 10 days time and another in 15 days time. And then another 2 games for Brazil in early October. And, if I'm not mistaken, both he and Firmino have been called up for these games. So he needs to stop the sulk and get back on the training pitch and get himself back into shape. It's life. You win some and you lose some.

21 Aug 2017 17:23:12
REdsteve

That's what happen when your team relies too heavily on one individual. Gerrard, Coutinho and now Mane! I agree if Mane picks up a knock then we would look half of what we are now!

21 Aug 2017 13:58:47
Klopp is my favorite football coach. Hands down I like the guys tactics, training, the exciting football that he plays and the attitude he displays on and off the field. That being said I must very much question him saying that he is happy with his current squad even with no new signings. When coaching professional footballers they should have the proper skills when you arrive you should just need to sharpen and implement your system which should take 3 - 4 months. It could take a year to a year and a half to get grips on your Academy players. Both of which Klopp has had the time to get his hands around. While I believe the academy players maybe able to be adequate substitutes for the senior team I don't think there will be any improvement in quality from the U23's or Academy players.

That means the best we have are in the senior squad and they have shown themselves to be capable bit don't quite have the competency to win anything big much less compete on multiple fronts with possible layoffs and injuries. We need to bring in quality players that can go into the starting 11. If we do not it will be very, very difficult to win any trophies this year. Kloop was well known at Dortmund for finding awesome players on the cheap and he may can do that here he is a good judge of talent. But I must say the current senior team does not have a prolific goal scorer or the depth to take the team to the next level.

Believable2 Unbelievable9

21 Aug 2017 15:37:36
Come on CM, what do you expect Klopp to do? Say "Our squad is a load of xxx" credit him with some man management skills. He wants the squad to go into the season feeling valued and with the manager's confidence. No one does their best if they think it's all a waste of time. When you hear a manager praise his squad after they've just been stuffed (Alladyce was my favourite bullshxtter) it's all part of management skill.

21 Aug 2017 15:40:50
Sorry CM if that came across as criticism, you make a very good argument, I was trying to rationalize his statements.

21 Aug 2017 15:58:17
Klopp knows he needs players which is why he's been going after players but he will never say his current players aren't good enough. Why would he say that there's just nothing to gain from it and everything to lose? You start criticising players in public and before you know it you've got a few in the dressing room getting all sensitive and criticising you and that then spreads like a cancer. Keep everyone on side (like Lovren always does) by praising them up.

21 Aug 2017 12:06:46
Is it possibly with the new anfield road expansion to incorporate hospitality boxes to increase revenue.

Believable5 Unbelievable5

21 Aug 2017 12:28:56
Hmmm corporate boxes, THAT should crank up the atmosphere.

21 Aug 2017 12:38:02
There are so many ways to increase revenue!

21 Aug 2017 13:00:25
Why not give the local fans an opportunity who can't even get tickets!

Why not encourage local young kids at cheap prices to encourage a next generation of true support.

21 Aug 2017 13:35:30
Thumbs up for Davey on that suggestion!

21 Aug 2017 14:07:51
There's not enough young people at the game anymore sadly.
Teenagers have been completely priced out and say what you want but them 15-19 year olds make the most noise (as us parents know)
For as much as the older generation deserve their Kop End ticket, they aren't the ones who make the ground shake anymore.
It's becoming a tourist attraction, there is more mobile phones held above Fans head nowadays than Scarfs during YNWA.

21 Aug 2017 14:45:31
They now do a separate sale for people living in the 'L' postcode, not sure how many a game but that was started last season.

21 Aug 2017 16:29:21
Cobra it's about 1,000 tickets for £9 each, a few of my mates from Ireland who live here now are able to get them.

21 Aug 2017 16:50:12
it’s ridiculous how many of the younger generation i’ve spoke to lately don’t even follow football! Talking to my neighbors a few days ago and none of the kids (teens) cared for it at all 😭🔫.

21 Aug 2017 17:53:58
Educate them Phil :)

21 Aug 2017 11:22:27
Morning all

I went to the game on Saturday and although we got the 3 points its obvious we need a few improvements.

Defence was solid but was not tested at all due to Palace tactics of trying to spoil us for the entire game. Neiter Matip or Klavan got bullied by Benteke when Palace went long and generally we coped easily. Having said that we will be tested by better teams than Palace and need to improve personel in thr CB area. Full backs in Gomez and Robertson (MOTM) looked good and energetic. We have cover in TAA, Clyne also.

Midfield in Hendo Milner and Gini seem to play far to safe with square passes or backward passes to the defence, not one of the midfield 3 looked to drive forward like Phil does and imo this is an area we must get a player ir 2 in before August the 31st, Especially with Lallana out until Xmas and Phil likely moving on. If we fail to improve this area of the field then we will struggle to penetrate better teams. Emre offers a little more going forward than Hendo but he is mainly another one who sits in the centre and does not penetrate enough.

In the forward areas Firmino is wasted out wide when we accomadate Studge into the team, who I must say looks slow and generally not involved at all. Our best line up is what we saw later in the game when Salah came on with Mane on the left.

All in all a good 3 points but we need to improve with a CB and a CM imo, we are aware of who we are/ was after, I hope we have not left it to late in the window with just 2 weeks left.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

21 Aug 2017 11:33:14
I wouldn't mind playing Grujic for one of the CM's and see what he could offer. I agree we might need 2 CM's creative!

21 Aug 2017 11:59:35
Grujic might be an option although it seems Klopp doesn't trust him enough else surely he would be getting more game time. We definitely need 1 or 2 if Pipco is going.

21 Aug 2017 12:04:10
Yeah i know ed001 doesn't like stats all that much but it would be interesting to see how many touches matip and klavan had during the game? I thought the tempo was really slow during the game allowing palace to organise themselves easier and get in a solid shape. Sometimes I wonder why we keep possession for possession stats any maybe learn how to set traps, instead of klavan square ball to matip then to hendo jus to go back to klavan, because if we let the opposition have a bit of security and have the ball we could nick it off em and hit them on a quick counter before the get in there usual solid shape.

21 Aug 2017 12:12:50
TAA has to be the starting right back as we have no one who can hit a decent dead ball. That lad has a wand of a right foot.

21 Aug 2017 12:13:49
Grujic is worth a go. He is creative and has a bit of aggro in him so isn't a shrinking violet.

21 Aug 2017 12:31:57
Neither klavan or Matip got bullied by Benteke? What game was you watching? Matip was constantly being put on his ass by benteke (and we got free kicks for it) 😐.

21 Aug 2017 12:45:15
Red phil I watched the whole game pal from Anny road upper. Yes Matip was wrestled to the ground a few times and won free kicks from it but im talking about actual fairly challenged balls and winning the ball back off Benteke and others. Im not saying it was perfect but him and Klavan was in complete control other than the one chance Benteke had.

21 Aug 2017 13:42:17
Personally like Can there in midfield. A bit erratic but damn he takes on players and drive the ball forward.

21 Aug 2017 13:52:12
If Coutinho does leave and we sign Keita (hopefully) then our best midfield imo would be Can at the base, with Keita and lallana just ahead, leaving Gini and Hendo on bench.

21 Aug 2017 17:53:37
Red_Phil, you are simply wrong. Matip and Klavan smothered Benteke almost completely (tho he had the one chance he should have buried) . They both esp. Klavan, were excellent in the air vs Benteke who tried to bully Klavan and just couldn't. Hence, he started elbowing them in the face. When a striker starts doing that then you know he is being bullied. Matip falling on his arse means nothing. What would you do if a striker kept grappling and shoving you, flailing his arm and everything? Our defence was mlore than solid on Sat and kudos to them.

22 Aug 2017 14:01:55
MRM an BR
What I mean was he did bully them in a sense, because he ran out of options and got piddled off and went crazy on them. I didn’t say they didn’t do well to stop him because they did a fantastic job.
There was a few times I was thinking though Matip should be a bit stronger and try stand his ground.
There is a few teams who are very very physical in a Benteke way with more than just the 1 player doing it and sometimes they get away with it.

21 Aug 2017 10:07:27
Jordy clasie has come out and said he's not for sale at any price.
He also wants an apology from Southampton for dropping him off in Blackpool with a sign round his neck like a hooker.

Hi Ed's, i read that De Boer said Sakho is too expensive, do u think a compromise can be made by Liverpool since he has no future under Klopp?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - We have already been around this loop with Stoke and West Brom. Liverpool are hanging on as long as they can but will need to do something.}

21 Aug 2017 10:19:13
We've been so clear with wanting rid of him, that I do not understand how the club can take the non-negotiation on price stance that they seem to have.

We don't have any leverage here, take £20m, free up the wages and move on.

21 Aug 2017 10:24:02
Perhaps we need to lower the initial fee and bump it up with some performance incentives or sell on percentage. Pointless having him sat around our club drawing a wage when he isn't going to be selected.

21 Aug 2017 10:55:17
He is worth more in todays market.

They have the money but are crying poverty.

21 Aug 2017 10:59:38
30 million can't be a lot for Crystal Palace these days. I think someone's telling porkies.

21 Aug 2017 11:15:38
Lower the fix price and just copy&paste the variable part from Barcelona's offer for Coutinho. ;-)

21 Aug 2017 11:24:23
Palace like any other PL club isnnot short of money. I hope both clubs sit and reach a point. He is worth more than £20 mill. He saved them from relegation!

21 Aug 2017 11:39:30
Well we've only ever spent 30 mill or over 4 times in our transfers. So it's not like it's pocket change.

if where are good move from Southampton get the lad in before selling VVD because they would have doubled the value if they had £60+m in the bank. still think that is what we are doing with coutinho I can see a very busy week after Wednesday nights game. then we will see if Michael Edwards is going to earn his money.

21 Aug 2017 08:14:42
I just don't see it happening. We've said we have dropped all interest and their position is that they won't sell to us. Given the social media activity of his best mate, you might assume that he's nailed on for Chelsea, given that they were at the Spurs v Chelsea match yesterday.

21 Aug 2017 08:53:57
I can see them doing it, as they are able to spend big money and spend it quickly. Arsenal aren't in the races and City have moved on. We aren't even in the hunt for the player given Southampton's stance towards us.

21 Aug 2017 10:11:21
We should just sign the guy from Lazio and cut out the middle man, as we will probably try buying him from saints next summer lolol.

I don't think we will be buying him as he isn't that good.

21 Aug 2017 07:48:09
i don't get the comment Coutinho has done a lot for us. if some one was to pay me £150000 a week I would do more than play football for them. I feel these players forget where they came from and the next time coutinho plays he should look round the ground and think these fans that I say I feel so much for that are paying my wages. about 98% of them won't earn than in about 5 years work. and in brazil with the wages of about £230 a month. as for a south American dreams of playing for Barcelona or real that's bull they a dream of playing in Europe because they know that's where the money is that's why some will go play in the Ukraine or some other league like that none of them won't to play there as kids its all about the money driven by agents.

Believable14 Unbelievable5

21 Aug 2017 08:03:59
Unfortunately Grino the whole game is driven by money. I don't think we'll ever see one club players like Carra or Gerrard again. I know they were handsomely rewarded for staying at the club but it's very rare that neither had their head turned. Gerrard did at one point and could have gone to Chelsea and won the title but he didn't. He stayed.
Loyalty is non existent when money and agents are concerned. They're all vultures but it's a business and like any business if you spend £8 mill on a player and someone offers £113 mill then you've made £105 mill profit over 4/ 5 years on that player. There's no where else that gets you a return like that. Footballers are transient and they come and go. Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

{Ed002's Note - Gerrard went to LAG.}

21 Aug 2017 08:14:19
Loyalty is directly proportional to ( trophies / titles, Money )
We have money but do not have the other two!

21 Aug 2017 09:44:34
Ed002 - Gerrard moving to LA is completely different. John Terry moved to Villa, would you call him loyal to Chelsea? Gerrard left because his game time was being managed and he wanted to play every week. He doesn't have too many questions to answer in my book regarding loyalty.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure what it has got to do with John Terry or with loyalty. The message said that Gerrard was a "one club player" - he wasn't.}

21 Aug 2017 10:09:20
Give a player enough of a financial incentive and watch his 'loyalty' evaporate. Even Le Tissier would probably be earning mega-bucks in China if he was still playing.
There aren't many hometown players playing for their local clubs anymore so why would a Brazilian kid hang around Liverpool when he has the chance of a huge payday, guaranteed trophies and plenty of sunshine and sangria?

21 Aug 2017 10:33:45
Voronins

Coutinho is on a mega salary at Liverpool and I don't see him moving to any money rich clubs in England or overseas. He has not made himself available for any random suitors who will double his wages. And I don't see him earning £300k per week at Barcelona either. You could blame him for anything except MONEY. He is not money driven. For his class and quality he would be paid good at any club including Liverpool. If it was about money he would easily get another pay rise at liverpool. He could move to Chelsea or City for a pay rise!

The Lad wants Barcelona and only Barcelona. Nothing to do with MONEY and Barcelona competes for titles year in year out!

21 Aug 2017 11:27:48
Carra is a farce. ask yourself would you ever see Gerrard donning an everton top for BT money, he'd tell BT to p off. as soon as sky waved the cash at carra he became another football puppet.

21 Aug 2017 12:14:24
Ed002 they call it soccer in America so he went and played another sport!

21 Aug 2017 12:41:49
We can't Defend ( maybe you need to change your name to We can't Read) as I said, payday, trophies, sunshine, sangria.
And of course, Coutinho would love to play for Barcelona for half his current wages if need be because he only wants to play for them and its nothing to do with money, right?

21 Aug 2017 12:57:19
He wouldn't need to take a pay cut at Barca! They would pay him what he deserves for! He is no small fish mate. They see him as the next INIESTA and I have not seen anyone across 10 leagues in Europe who would replace Iniesta.
You could ommit pay day from the list! The rest make sense. The most important is TROPHIES!

He could have all those at Real Madrid as well! Is he moving there?

21 Aug 2017 12:59:44
@Chango

Did Stevie G not release his autobiography in the $un?
Give me an Everton top any day over that and Everton were his boyhood club.

22 Aug 2017 01:33:44
Maldini was a 1 club player And perhaps my fave ever player (Non Liverpool of course) and Buffon is my fave gk they are two very loyal players.

21 Aug 2017 07:12:49
Don't look now MK but Hoedt is off to Southampton! You called it and at 17mil too.

Our transfer target next summer?!

Boring 😴😴😴.

21 Aug 2017 07:25:35
We usually give them a few seasons to settle nice at home before disrupting their lives haha.

21 Aug 2017 08:03:16
Saints must've read my article suggesting him as a VVD alternative 😉 haha.

21 Aug 2017 08:52:01
What a beauty MK!

21 Aug 2017 09:01:08
I can't see that he is anything near a like for like, Hoedt is quite poor in the air and not particularly physically strong, whereas van Dijk is a physically dominant player and one of the best headers of a ball in the premier league? The only thing they have in common is that they're dutch and can pass the ball quite well.

21 Aug 2017 10:32:29
Dennis, if you read my article I basically said exactly the same thing as you mate.

21 Aug 2017 07:11:56
Eds (or reds)

In the light of our apparent enquirer into Seri, can anyone offer an informed opinion on him as never seen him play (or heard of him until this window) .

Is he a bit of a late bloomer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - never seen him play.}

21 Aug 2017 06:52:20
Morning Eds and Reds! Regarding Coutinho's transfer request, has anyone from the club actually said yes Phillipe has had handed a TR in? I haven't seen anything to say they have even acknowledged that a transfer request has been handed in?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

21 Aug 2017 07:30:25
This had been covered every day, on here and in the news for the last 2 weeks.

21 Aug 2017 08:28:30
The club did say he did and it was rightly rejected. As Ed02 would say, "Done to death".

21 Aug 2017 05:51:47
Eds, what's your views on Michael Edwards? DoF who hasn't landed any primary targets, and can't sell surplus players, i. e Sakho, Salah.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say really. What kind of discretionary power does he have at his disposal? Are the sale prices set by him or given to him and he has to find someone to take the players at that price? Does he have the power to scrape up the money or approve the add ons required to complete a deal for an incoming player? For instance, in Keita's case, has he been told this is how much you can offer and that's it? Or does he get told this is the overall budget, you have to allocate it as you see fit? Or perhaps even is he given the power to decide exactly what terms and package is offered with no oversight from the club?

I have a feeling he does not have much in the way of discretionary power, or we would, at the very least, have offloaded a few to clear the wages.}

21 Aug 2017 06:07:29
Ed001 who do you think is calling the shots on this one then? Would this come under Peter Moores remit?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate. No one wants to talk about this stuff as it is above the pay grade of the people I know.}

21 Aug 2017 06:26:25
I think Edwards should be given until the end of the transfer window before any speculation on his performance. We might still get VVD and Keita and sell Sakho and Markovich.

21 Aug 2017 08:05:27
Mr Mike "Net Present Value" Gordon will be setting the parameters of the deals.

21 Aug 2017 08:05:27
Mr Mike "Net Present Value" Gordon will be setting the parameters of the deals.

21 Aug 2017 08:10:04
Really interesting first comment Eds and spot on. Everything you mentioned regarding who has the power I always thought was the owners remit. From what I've read on here from either yourself or ed 02 suggests the owners have nothing to do with tranfers or budgets. I think we all know we have a major flaw at the club when it comes to doing any kind of transfer be it in or out. There's 10 days to go in the window so who knows what is going to happen. Keep up the great work.

21 Aug 2017 05:47:33
We already touched upon this a little somewhere I believe. Worse things have been told and forgiven. However, Klopp being a really passionate and authoritative person, do you see him forgiving Couts and integrating him to the squad? We all know he didn't Sakho. One difference could be that Couts wanted a move, not because he does not buy into Klopp and his long term plan, but majorly due to the pull of Barcelona.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

21 Aug 2017 06:09:35
Why would he not want him sold if he doesn't want to integrate him back into the squad? If he had no intention of doing so he would sell him.

21 Aug 2017 08:01:50
Also look at the dortmund players that he wanted to stay but they moved to bayern instead (lewandowski, hummels, götze) he still cuddled with them when we faced bayern. I think Klopp has a bif heart and ubderstands coutinhos situation.

21 Aug 2017 08:34:09
Klopp is very passionate and all that BUT having read an interview he gave years ago, the guy does not hold any grudges especially regarding his players not wanting to stay. remember, he wanted to bring Gotze here last season which shows you that he understands his players first, on the human level, which is essential to be successful. He understands Cou's situation (even tho Cou orchestrated the whole thing himself) and would integrate him ASAP provided Cou's head is right.

21 Aug 2017 05:25:55
{Ed's Note - We have posted a new player profile about, Jordan Henderson

Believable2 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2017 05:57:18
A great Ed01. Just like you and some in here, I'm a big fan of Henderson.

Just wanna ask some clarification from you Ed01;

"This will improve under Rodgers' training set up especially since I expect to see so many triangles this season" - you meant Klopp's training set up, maybe some error typing, right? I couldn't get much after reading it few times. Maybe it was just because of my English.

{Ed001's Note - that is a mistake in the profiles layout I have asked Ed033 to sort out. Rather than just get rid of old profiles that have been done in the past, we wanted to add them on the end of the new ones, so people can see different perspectives on players through their careers. However there should be a clear break between them and also the author of each one should be credited at the end of his particular bit. My one ended with the paragraph about his running style being natural.

Sorry for the confusion.}

21 Aug 2017 06:05:54
Great read and analysis, got very confused for a moment though was this written under the Rogers rein?

If so his long passing (although we don’t see it much) has been amazing since IMO, when he does launch it up to a player out wide it reminds me of the way Gerrard used to do it for us switching play. it’s a shame he probably isn’t given the freedom to do so anymore : (
Even now he still should be a B2B CM or AM though he is being wasted playing deep.
Also found just the 1 typo 😜
".90%+ short passing completion than an 80% long passing completion (considering ***out*** new game plan) "

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate, hopefully Ed033 will fix it quickly as it is very confusing right now and the author of the previous bit is not credited. Actually nor am I for the bit I did for that matter!}

21 Aug 2017 06:14:03
Aah Ed001 how old is this profile supposed to be as the link above sent me to one dating from 2012.

{Ed001's Note - the first part is new.}

21 Aug 2017 06:26:30
Haizan, if your name is Phil i’ll die xD 3 great Phil minds all thinking alike? xD

Thanks for clearing that up ed1 mate, reading it again I can see where some of the different reviews end and start and it is a little less confusing 😃 hopefully ed033 can sort it asap and put the respective credits in for each section :)

{Ed001's Note - I am really sorry about that, I should have realised sooner on previous profiles I had done but I was only looking at them for errors in the past. It was meant to be more helpful to the reader, having the old ones to look at as well, rather than more confusing!}

21 Aug 2017 06:42:46
Honestly don’t worry about it mate, it’s very early on a Monday morning when nobody's head including my own won’t be awake for another day or so 😂
It was all still a great read and great analysis' anyway.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, but I would at least like the credit for the first part to go to whoever wrote it. I have no idea who it was or I would give them credit here! I never even knew we had a profile there for Hendo. I assumed there wasn't one as one had been requested recently.}

21 Aug 2017 06:54:11
Fair enough yeah hopefully whoever write it sees it and pipes up so they can be credited.

The last one was a good few years ago so it was probably due an update anyway as his game has been changed quite a lot from being thrown forward and also out wide on occasion to now playing quite deep and not seemingly having the freedom he used to have.

{Ed001's Note - Ed033 will have it logged in the database who it came from anyway.

That was the point of keeping the old ones and just adding new ones on top. Then people can see how someone's game has changed over the years.}

21 Aug 2017 07:08:46
130 hits for his name on the search but the only 2 links (both from yourself ed1) this player profile and an article called "Is Jordan Henderson a victim of his own simplicity? "

Maybe it wasn’t posted so nobody knew about it 😓.

{Ed001's Note - oh that's odd. Is that the search on here or on the player profile site?}

21 Aug 2017 07:24:11
Ahh awesome at least it will be in the database then 😆
I searched on here but it only went back to January 2013 and phil_LFC mentioned it being from 2012. But if it’s in the database still then all good.

{Ed001's Note - ah ok, yeah that makes sense.}

21 Aug 2017 07:33:07
Hi Ed do you think given Can and Hendo are quite similar but arguably that Hendo is more agile in the high press, it's worth giving Can a run deeper and Hendo back in the box to box role? Can looks to be developing into a great player but not sure about him further forward.

{Ed001's Note - yes, I prefer Can sitting as he is bigger and stronger but lacks Henderson's pace on the counter.}

21 Aug 2017 10:15:13
It's OK Ed01. Read it again just now, and now I got it.

{Ed001's Note - good, glad it makes sense now mate.}

21 Aug 2017 02:59:54
Hi Ed's,
Playing for Barcelona is a dream for many football players and recently in case of Marco Verratti, he was rumoured to be joining Barcelona this summer, but the Club made him release a statement that he is happy at PSG and now almost all rumours are dead.
Similarly Pablo Dybala is still rumoured to be joining Barcelona, but he has come out and said publicly that he is happy with Juventus.
No doubt both clubs PSG and Juventus are quite big and always play in Champions league, I feel the guarantee to play Champions league every year is one of important reasons behind Coutinho's transfer request.
Another thing I would like to ask you is was there a different way to handle this whole Transfer saga, like the board would have told Coutinho and his reps that they will grant him his wish but provided they receive a prescribed amount and asked him and his agent to not go public about it. Some where I feel the board has not acted wisely in controlling the Player, his rep and even the other Transfer targets.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - another thing? You never asked me anything!}

21 Aug 2017 04:34:13
do you think the club might be waiting until champions league football is assured before adding to the squad bearing in mind it is an adeuate squad to challenge for the league title in a purely domestic season (it wasnt the defense that stopped us winning the league last season it was having no pacy alternative to mane and looking devoid of ideas without the genius of phil)?

And furthermore could possibly have 2 large deals lined in the event we do receive champions league football. for example keita. we didn't goi in with a third bid at 75 m but maybe we know that is rb liepzigs asking price behind the scenes and are seeing what else might unfold in this window re coutinho and the success/ failure of getting into the champions league proper.

{Ed001's Note - no deals are not contingent on one game.}

21 Aug 2017 02:41:20
Ed001 sprry if it has been dealt with but i was wondering why Barcelona haven't gone for keita? because of his price? or because of only one season on top flight as a stand put player?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - because he does not suit their style of play.}

I'm not looking past Hoffenheim, but the worry is now whether Klopp will use Coutinho against Arsenal at Anfield. My guess is that he won't, simply because he hasn't been in training for so long. Wenger has already announced that Sanchez will be playing (let the mind games begin) .

What a start to the season. I can imagine the pressure on Klopp. Not getting the players he wanted (yet), UCL qualification, followed by Lallana out injured, followed by the Coutinho situation being up in the air.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2017 08:46:40
Who cares. Sanchez played both games last season and they still got smashed. We will get CL footie, Cou will stay and we will be ready for Arsenal as big games is what we do best while big games is what Arsenal do worst.

21 Aug 2017 00:55:57

Can any of the Eds confirm if Coutinho had actually gone on strike and is refusing to train and play? A lot of people have talked about this on here in the past 24hrs so was just looking for some clarity. If it's true that he's doing this then I'd honestly just tell Barcelona pay x amount of money up front with x amount in add ons and let him go, don't want players acting like that no matter how good they are. Thank you in advance Eds.

21 Aug 2017 09:41:32
Was only asking because nobody has actually confirmed this.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained that he has not made himself available but training or for games. This is because he wants to leave. It has been explained over and over.}

Could also be a replacement for Jose Fonte? They never managed to get one in January did they.

{Ed001's Note - Jack Stephens was already earmarked as Fonte's replacement, that was why they wanted Fonte to stay one more year to help Stephens get ready. They look to buy the replacements a year or more ahead, so that they have time to bed in. Romeu was brought in to replace Wanyama, but Wanyama was not sold immediately, as a for instance.}
